Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, friends, and welcome back to the Liz Moody podcast. Today, we are going to talk about the tiny habits that I have noticed that all the healthiest, happiest, most successful people that I have been exposed to all tend to do. I have spent years observing people, which sounds creepy, but also it is my job. I am a journalist. It is what I do. And also interviewing all of these people, which is definitely my job. And I'm always scanning, like looking out for these patterns, for these little things that
Starting point is 00:00:28 make these people's lives and the results that they get stand out. So those are going to be what I'm going to share with you here today. The first one is reading. The absolute most successful, happiest people that I know, I'll spend a ton of time reading. And I have a few hypotheses for why this is. One is what you're doing reading instead of. So instead of scrolling on social media, which is decreasing your attention span and making you really stressed and anxious about the most negative version of every single thing going on all over the world, you are sitting with a book. So the advantages of reading are about the time and the unwanted habits that it replaces. Reading increases our attention spans. It puts us into almost this meditative flow state.
Starting point is 00:01:13 You're basically training your mind to focus on the words on the page and then you get distracted and then you come back to this point of focus over and over again. I always say if you don't want to meditate or if that's really hard for you, reading gets you a lot of the way there. So do that. I honestly, like, I congratulate myself every time I read. And I'm like, you meditated. Like, that's amazing good for you. So feel free to do that as well. Reading also decreases our stress levels. Studies show that reading for just six minutes decreases our stress levels by 68%. And if your stress levels are lower one, you're just going to be happier because having higher stress levels makes you more unhappy.
Starting point is 00:01:54 Why don't have the urge right now to say, and happy people just don't shoot their husbands, do they? And two, you're actually going to be able to activate the part of your brain that goes offline when you are stressed, which is the part of your brain that's responsible for strategies and creative solutions and problem solving. So you will feel less stressed in the moment,
Starting point is 00:02:14 but also your brain will be equipped to come up with solutions to your problems and longer-term plans so you will be more successful and less stressed in the future. And then three, reading just helps us learn. This can either be like really straightforward. Like if you want to do basically anything or learn basically anything, there is probably a book about it.
Starting point is 00:02:37 You can learn about the history of world religions. You can learn about the science of happiness. You could learn about crocheting. And then also I think less straightforwardly, and I don't think that we talk about this enough. You can even learn from reading fiction. You learn about what other people's lives are like. You learn about other people's emotions and their reactions.
Starting point is 00:02:58 Fiction lets you get inside other people's heads in a way that nothing else does. Movies come close, but they're still not the same thing because you don't have that interiority. You can really be inside a fictional character's head in a way that you cannot be with your partner or with your parent or with your kid. And that can be so, so helpful for seeing the world through other people's eyes. Whether you are negotiating a business deal or asking somebody out on a date or just making conversation with somebody, having had that experience, that sense of empathy that you gain from reading fiction, it is so, so valuable. I want to give a few very concrete tips for reading more because I think a lot of people are like, yeah, you should be reading. and then they don't give any tips for how, especially when the pull of our phones is so strong, and then we don't read and we feel ashamed or like something is wrong with us.
Starting point is 00:03:57 One thing that I've noticed that a lot of successful people do, a lot of really happy people do, is they have a book with them all of the time. They never leave their house without a book. And this makes sense, right? Because we want to make the habits that we want to have as easy as possible. So always having a book with you makes the habit of reading, way easier. And this can be a physical book. It can be your Kindle. It can be the Kindle app on your phone, although that's a little bit trickier because then you're like tempted to do the other things on your
Starting point is 00:04:27 phone. So I'd recommend that only as like a last resort type of thing. But basically just make sure that you can easily access a book at any given moment. The second thing is, and this one is especially important, I think if you're just getting back into reading, do not sabotage yourself by reading books that are too hard or too boring. If I am in a reading rut, that's when I'll go for like an easy romance. Like I remember for my most recent reading rut, I read Nora Goes Off script, which is just like an easy, delightful, fun, simple book. If I had tried to jump into a harder book, I would have just postponed reading longer. So give yourself permission to read fun light books. And then after you finish those books when you are out of your reading rut, you might crave something with a little
Starting point is 00:05:17 bit more depth or you might not. All reading is good reading. Also, I feel so passionately about this, give yourself permission to quit a book. We guilt ourselves so much over this. If you are hating a book, you will always choose to do something else instead of reading it and you will never get the benefits of reading. Just quit the book. Try another book. There are so many, books out there. You know when you're reading a good book and you're like, you don't want to finish it, because you're like, I'm never going to find another great book like this again. There are millions of books in the world. I always have to comfort myself with this. There's so many options out there. There are way too many options to not read because you're reading a really boring book that
Starting point is 00:06:00 makes you not want to read. And then my last tip is just to read faster. I got this tip from Jim quick when I interviewed him on the podcast. We talked about optimizing our brain health to increase our focus and intelligence. It's a really good episode. I can link it in the show notes. But the tip is basically, if you are bored, go faster. Here's the analogy that he used. Picture driving down a road in your neighborhood. You're familiar with it. You're going slow, so your mind will most likely wander. But then, picture driving on a racetrack. You're speeding along. You're taking these fast turns. And you're not making a grocery list in your head or replaying that fight with a friend. No, you're paying attention to every single second because you're going fast, so every single second counts.
Starting point is 00:06:47 This is the same with our brains and our attention spans. Often, our minds wander because our brains are bored, and we've unfortunately trained our brains to be bored far easier because of social media and clickbait news articles, which isn't great. Our brain's tolerance for boredom is at an all-all-all-time low. But one antidote to this, one thing that can help our brain. ease into long-form content is to alleviate that boredom by just going a little bit faster. I listen to a lot of podcasts at 1.3 or 1.5 speed, not because I'm like dying to take in all this information, but because it helps hold my attention span. Would it be better if my attention span weren't broken in the first place? Yes, but I am working with what I've got.
Starting point is 00:07:34 In the same way, I'll sort of skim a book or read quite quickly, especially in the beginning when I'm trying to get into it. It helps my brain focus. And then when I get into that book, when it kind of tips for me is what I like to say, which is the point when a book goes from being work to read to something that you actually crave picking up, that you are like, no, no, don't bother me. I'm reading right now. When that happens, I'll settle into more of a natural reading speed.
Starting point is 00:08:00 So I'll skim at the beginning. And then when I have that tipping point, that's when I'll slow down and I'll read more normal paste. But my big takeaway here, and I tell this to people all of the time, and it always helps them so much when they try it, is that it is okay to speed up to get into long form content. You are just working with the natural state of your brain. Actually, I have one final bonus tip. Find ways to keep yourself accountable. So join a book club or start one with even one other person. My mother-in-law is in a book club with just my sister-in-law. It's just the two of them. And they read a a book every single month and they discuss it. Commit to a book a month and then post your review on
Starting point is 00:08:43 Instagram. I know somebody who does that. I also love seeing her reviews. It makes me want to read more. Just find ways to hold yourself accountable so you stick to the habit of reading more. I will share my top 10 all-time book recommendations on my substack. That's going to be at Liz Moody.substack.com. So go subscribe there. And I'll make it a mix of like nonfiction and then easy fiction, that getting out of a reading rut fiction. And my very favorite genre, which I like to call readable literary fiction, it's like books that are really well written, but they have plot, so they make you want to turn the pages. Because some of the popular stuff right now is just so horribly written that I cannot do it. It's like if these people had one adult conversation,
Starting point is 00:09:29 this entire book would not need to exist. And then there's the literary thing. And then there's the literary fiction where the writing is gorgeous and you're just like, oh my gosh, this is stunning, but I am so bored that I am falling asleep. And it's like, I need both. I need readable literary fiction. So I will share all of those book recommendations over on my substack. Okay, next up, the healthiest, happiest, most successful people that I know have routines. And I mean routines for everything, from eating well to working out, to social connection. For example, I know people who make a big dinner. every Sunday night and it's an open doors policy and their friends and their family members always know that they can stop by.
Starting point is 00:10:11 Or a really great one is to go to the farmer's market every Saturday and then you can meal prep with your hall. I just saw Chelsea Fagan, who's the woman behind the financial diet and she writes fiction too. And I think she has a hosting book coming out in the fall. Can I just say as a side note, this is like a real digression side note. I love this era of work life where we can be all of these different things. You can write fiction and nonfiction, which is actually what I am doing right now. I'm working on one fiction book and on one nonfiction book.
Starting point is 00:10:45 And I am so excited about both. We can be accountants and we can have a needlepoint Etsy shop. I think that shift happened so quickly that we forget to notice how absolutely extraordinary it is because it means that, one, we're not defined by our work as much because we have all of these different facets of our work and our lives. And two, we don't have to feel limited. It's not like choose this career path and then you can only do this career until the day that you die. It's really, really freeing. And I just feel like we don't talk enough about how cool that is. Like, we can be all these things because we are all of these things. Anyway, Chelsea shared a TikTok about how every summer her and
Starting point is 00:11:29 husband rent a house somewhere, and then they host friends and family members there all month long. And I think this is a really great routine to break down because it highlights why routines are so important and helpful in a lot of non-obvious ways that might not be immediately apparent. First of all, routines are great because they force us to figure out our values. Chelsea values quality time with family and friends. She values exploration and adventure. So she's figured that out about herself and then she's. created a routine that lets her use her resources to add those benefits to her life. Routines also help us clarify what we actually want, what's enough, and what life is actually
Starting point is 00:12:10 about. I say this all the time, but until you know how much money you actually need to live the life that you want, you will never think that you have enough money. One of the most valuable things that you can do is sit down and price out your ideal life. Figuring out these routines can be hugely helpful for that. This is what success looks like for you uniquely. Maybe it is going to this gym or being able to shop for these groceries to meal prep or renting a house with all of your friends for a month every single summer. But knowing what it is means you will know when you've gotten it and you will know how much
Starting point is 00:12:49 money you need to be able to keep it. And then the last benefit, and this is the most obvious one, this is the one that people talk about all of the time, is that routines eliminate decision fatigue. And we make so many decisions in our life that anywhere that we can eliminate decisions and replace them with routines that represent our values, that is a huge, huge win. I've researched what it means to create a well-lived life for years, what it means to create a life that we will be excited to look back on in our 80s. And I've realized that a key, key part of that is creating a mix of novelty and routine. And what I love about Chelsea's summer house rental is that it creates both. This is their routine and they do it every single summer.
Starting point is 00:13:31 And it creates this container for novelty as people are coming in and out as they're doing different things as they have this different mix going on in the house and adventures. They're getting to have all of these experiences together. My challenge to you is to think about what some of your key values are. What are the things that will make you look back on your life and say, I feel complete, whether it's adventure, feeling strong and powerful, or being surrounded by art and beauty or spirituality or time with your family. Your values are your own. And then make an investment in those values. Create a plan for one routine that helps take the decision fatigue out of living
Starting point is 00:14:12 into those values. It can be a daily routine, a weekly routine, a yearly one. But value-driven routines is something that all of the happiest, healthiest, most successful people do. And I highly, highly recommend it. I can also do a pod in the future breaking down all of my daily, weekly, and yearly routines for inspiration. So let me know in an Apple podcast review or a Spotify comment or just DM me if you're interested in that. When it comes to wellness, you're going to get the best results by focusing on the big needle movers. A lot of us spend a lot of time trying to optimize that last 1%, which creates a ton of stress and it actually doesn't help our help that much. At the top of the needle mover list? Sleep. And one of the best ways to optimize your sleep is to optimize your
Starting point is 00:14:59 mattress, which is why I love avocado green mattress so much. First of all, this mattress is so comfortable. I have the one with the pillow top, which is medium firm, and it's just a dream. I miss it when I travel. It's better than even the fanciest hotel beds. Having a mattress that supports your joints and your body and feels good is going to help you get more sleep and better quality sleep. But then, on top of that, avocado mattresses are made with certified organic cotton, wool, and latex, and they are made safe and green guard gold certified. They're also Okotech certified, which is the gold standard. I look for it in any mattresses, sheets, or towels that I buy, which means the materials have been rigorously tested for harmful substances.
Starting point is 00:15:40 You can actually look for the Okotech standard 100 label right on the product, and I love this part. It includes a traceable certificate number and the name of the testing lab so you know exactly what you're getting. There are no toxic chemicals. There's no harmful off-gassing. It does not smell like it's going to kill you when you unbox it. This is what I mean. I'm not going to swap out all of my clothing, which is that top 1% of optimization. But by making sure that my mattress and my bedding are as good for me as possible, I literally reduce my exposure during a third of my life, which is a huge needle mover for a one-time swap. I will also note, and this is a me thing, but I sleep super hot and avocado's materials are really breathable and it makes me sweat the least of any mattress that
Starting point is 00:16:23 I have slept on. And avocado is a certified B-corp and a 1% for the planet member because caring for yourself and caring for the planet do not have to be separate things. You can get up to 20% off organic mattresses and more by shopping Avocados Presidents Day Sale right now at Avocadogreenmatress.com. That is avocadogreenmatress.com no code needed. The number one rule of is to make the things that you want easier and the things that you don't want harder. Yet so many of us want to eat healthier, but so few of us actually take the steps to make eating healthier easier. That's where Marley Spoon comes in.
Starting point is 00:17:02 What I love about this company and what's different than all of the other companies out there that are doing like stuff in the same arena is that you can customize your choices based on the effort that you want to put in. So if you want them to send you ingredients, so you can make your own 20-minute meal and like get into your chef energy, they'll send it to you. It'll all be in perfect portions so you'll eliminate waste. Great, that's sorted. But they also have meals that you can just heat up.
Starting point is 00:17:26 They have ready-made breakfast, which is always such a tough time of day to get a healthy meal in. They have grab-and-go snacks. Everything is made from farm-fresh produce with high-quality proteins and you can select by dietary preferences, including Mediterranean diet, which is the top diet that doctors on this podcast recommend. Also, things like gluten-free, dairy-free, low sodium, anything that you need. The food is so good and it's so gourmet feeling like you feel like you're at a nice restaurant.
Starting point is 00:17:52 We're talking like chicken Milanese with a crunchy cucumber arugula salad or everything bagel salmon with truffle chive potatoes. My favorite recent meal was the creamy lemon chicken tray bake. I had one of those moments where I looked at my plate and I was like, wait, I made this. And so quickly, like so easily. It's just so little effort for so much reward. Marley Spoon just makes eating well feel easy instead of stressful. And honestly, that is everything. This new year, fast track your way to eating well with Marley Spoon.
Starting point is 00:18:21 Head to Marley Spoon.com slash offer slash Liz Moody for up to 25 free meals. That is right, up to 25 free meals with Marley Spoon. That is Marley Spoon.com slash offer slash Liz Moody. So remember to get the offer slash Liz Moody for up to 25 free meals. I'm genuinely confused how Masterclass gets literally the absolute top people in every single field to teach every single one of their classes. I use it when I want to learn things directly, like the cooking class from Thomas Keller has all of the wisdom that you would normally have to go to culinary school for. But also, I'm being honest, this is like a use case I don't hear a lot of people
Starting point is 00:19:03 talking about. I'll just watch it for entertainment when I want to do something that's far more interesting than scrolling. Christina Aguilera taught me to sing. Shan Boudrum's Art of Mastering Confidence and Sex Appeal class is 10 out of 10. There's menopause classes with leading doctors. There's script writing with Mindy Kaylee. Literally, you name it, they're on Masterclass, and it is such a good way to get off your phone, but have something that's like not quite as long or hard to get into as a TV show or a movie, and that it just keeps you entertained and interested. And you are learning. There are over 200 classes from the world's best, all for just $10 a month when billed annually. And you get unlimited access to every class on the platform so you can learn at your own pace
Starting point is 00:19:45 whenever you want on your phone, your computer, or even in audio mode, like a podcast. If you're looking to stop scrolling and start consuming entertaining content that makes you feel excited and helps you learn, Masterclass is it. And the best part, every membership comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee so you can start learning risk-free. Right now, our listeners get an additional 15% off any annual membership at Masterclass.com slash Liz Moody. That's 15% off at Masterclass.com slash Liz Moody, Masterclass.com slash Liz Moody. Next up, this is the single most effective and important thing that we can all do for our mental health. It consistently performs better than any other treatment for depression and anxiety, including therapy and medication, which is not to discount those because they can also be very impactful. But this performs better and it is movement.
Starting point is 00:20:39 The most successful people that I know are the most active, period. There are a lot of reasons for this. Being active gives you more energy. it helps you sleep better, which are both key factors in being happier and feeling your best to accomplish your dreams. It also makes your brain work better so you can have more creative ideas and you can come up with better solutions to your problems. Nothing is a complete antidote to all of our health problems, but study shows that movement moves the needle in pretty much every single thing that you can think of from dementia to metabolic issues to cancer. And also,
Starting point is 00:21:15 I want you to notice that I am saying movement. I am not saying movement. I am not saying, working out. I think working out is really important, particularly strength training, which I think there's enough research on at this point for all of us to be prioritizing as much as possible. I personally alternate between going to the gym and then I'll use EVLO, which I highly, highly recommend if you want a home strength training workout that you can just push play on and not think about and follow along. It's from my former podcast guest, Dr. Shannon Ritchie, and I am just wildly, like every time I do it, I'm more impressed with it. They share so much science in every single routine and intentionality is just my love language for things.
Starting point is 00:21:55 I'm always texting her. Like, I cannot believe the care that you put into this and the thought behind all of this. I think you can use my code. It's Liz Moody if you want to try that for free because they are a podcast partner. But yes, strength training is important. Some type of cardio also important. And what I'm talking about here, movement from the research that I've seen and from the examples that I've seen in my real life is far more important than specific workouts. I'm talking about walking meetings. Billionaire business owners like Mark Zuckerberg and Richard Branson famously try to do walking meetings as much as possible.
Starting point is 00:22:30 I've taken this on in my own life, even if it's a phone meeting. I'm always trying to do a walking meeting. I have noticed, hands down in my own life, all of the most successful people that I know basically spend their entire day just looking for opportunities to move. instead of like want to meet up for a drink or want to meet up for dinner. It's like, do you want to go for a hike? They are doing steps goals. They are hot girl walking.
Starting point is 00:22:54 A big trend that I've seen with CEOs recently is they ask their teams to schedule 50 minute or 20 minute meeting. So instead of 60 minute or 30 minute meeting so that they can do a 10 minute walk before their next meeting, which is definitely something that is worth asking your company about or if you're in a position where you can implement this, play around with implementing this. There's really interesting research that I wrote about in my book that basically shows that our work expands or compresses into the time that we allow for it. So if you have 20 minutes to accomplish a 30-minute meeting, you will most likely just work
Starting point is 00:23:30 more efficiently and get what you need to get done in that 20-minute window. So, you know, feel free to send this episode to your boss and be like, hey, friend, let's make our meeting shorter. But yeah, the whole idea is that any amount of time for your movement counts. Ten minutes walking, counts, a few squats, counts. Sneak it in all day long and space it out as much as possible throughout your day. I've talked about my steps challenge with my sister, ad nauseam at this point. But the reason that I love it so much is that it puts me in the frame of mind of like,
Starting point is 00:24:06 oh, I have this little sliver of time. I will sneak in some steps because I got to get them somewhere so I can. can hit my goal and not let her down slash have her yell at me so that I'm circling around my house at 1130 trying to hit my steps goals. You know, I'm thinking at 10 in the morning, okay, I've got a little bit of time here. I'm going to get some steps in. I'm thinking after lunch, oh, I've got a little bit of time here. I'll get some steps in. So that's why I really like having a steps challenge with somebody else because it encourages you to get that movement in all day long. Okay. Next step. The healthiest, happiest, most successful people that I know are always running
Starting point is 00:24:42 tiny experiments. There isn't a gap between idea and execution, and I mean this both in their personal and their professional lives. They are not thinking, I wonder if I would feel less anxious if I meditated. They are already downloading a meditation app. They are trying a five-minute session, and they are committing to doing it again the next day to see if it makes a difference. They plunge in as quickly as possible and then they make adjustments along the way as needed. If they have an idea for a company, they are trying to get it off the ground. If they have an idea for a book, they are writing it. This is such a key to success.
Starting point is 00:25:23 The most valuable knowledge is not learned. It is forged. True success comes from the wisdom that you gain by doing something and using that experience to refine that thing to perfection. Writing an absolute shit book gives you the experience that you need to make the edits to make it a better book. Starting to meal prep gives you the experience that you need to become a better meal prepper. You cannot become an expert by doing something in your head. So whether it's a health habit or a dream that you have, try it. Take a big step toward it. If it works, if it hits amazing. If it doesn't, even more amazing, because that is going to
Starting point is 00:26:09 give you such valuable information to take your next step with and you will have no regrets or what ifs. I actually just went through this because I've been wanting to write another book and I was banging my head against the wall trying to come up with the perfect idea that would be the most helpful for all of you. And then I just started working on an idea that I had that I didn't know if it was good enough. I didn't quite think that it worked. And in the process of doing research for that proposal, I had an idea for another book that felt a little bit better. And if you're wondering if that's the book that I am working on now, it is not. Because I started working on that proposal and I was turning over some critiques that some friends and mentors had shared with me. And I was
Starting point is 00:26:53 twain with how to make it better. And that solidified into a different idea, which is the idea that I'm working on now, and it is an idea that I am so excited by, that I'm so lit up by. And maybe this is the book that I will end up selling and writing, and maybe it's not. But I'm making progress by doing. The ideas are coming from the action. Anything that you can do to shrink the gap between idea and execution is going to give you a huge leg up in terms of happiness and health and success. And usually that gap comes from not wanting to do.
Starting point is 00:27:29 to do things imperfectly, not wanting to fail. And I just want you to tell yourself, I tell myself this all of the time, everyone does stuff imperfectly. Everyone fails. That is the single best way to get the information that you need to take the next step, which gets you that much closer to your end goal. The very last thing that I want to touch on is that the healthiest, happiest people I know are either really good planners or they have paid somebody else to be. Healthy habits live and die by planning ahead. This was such a lesson that I learned on my weight loss journey, which I shared all about on two podcasts actually a few months ago.
Starting point is 00:28:12 I can link them both in the show notes. But if I did not plan to have healthy foods around, I would get hungry and then I would make worse choices. If I had to boil down the secret to my healthy weight loss into one word, it would be planning. And yes, really rich, successful people do pay somebody often to manage their calendars or their meal prep or any of that stuff. And obviously, that's a huge, huge privilege and most of us cannot do that. But it's also just a sign. This is what we can take from this information. It's a sign that it is really, really important, that it is worth prioritizing planning because people are
Starting point is 00:28:50 giving people a whole ass annual salary just to plan for them. And there are lots of ways. And there are lots of ways that are accessible to most of us that we can prioritize planning a little bit more in our lives. Can you look at your calendar on Sunday and plan in things that match your values and your goals, whether it's your workouts or your meditations or your walks with your friends or your date nights with your partner? Put them on the calendar. I love to meal prep a few easy, healthy meals that I just keep frozen in individual serving. So if I'm ever hungry and I do not know what to eat, I know those are in my freezer ready for me. I usually just make the sweet potato, ground beef, green onion bowl that I shared on my substack a little bit ago. But just knowing that they're there helps my anxiety so
Starting point is 00:29:35 much. And it just, it makes me feel so much better. And then I never get to this hangary state. It's always, always there for me to eat if I need it. Time is our absolute most precious resource. And it's often the thing that we are fighting against when we're trying to live our healthiest, happiest life. We go into a week with the best of intentions and then it just slips through our fingers. There are diversions. There are catastrophes. We get tired. As much as you possibly can, combat this, take back your time by planning ahead before all of the obstacles
Starting point is 00:30:12 come into place before you get too exhausted to think about it. Plan your values. It makes a big, big difference. Okay, let's recap. These are the five tiny habits that I see come up again and again in the healthiest, happiest, most successful people that I know. One, they read because it's good for your brain, because it trains your attention, it lowers your stress, it expands your empathy, it replaces mindless scrolling with something far, far more nourishing, far better for your mind, for your brain, for all of that. They have routines that align with their values and give structure to their lives while still leaving room for joy and novelty and spontaneity. Three, they physically move their bodies constantly, not just at the gym, but all day long
Starting point is 00:31:04 because they know that their bodies and their brains work better when they do. Four, they run tiny experiments. They shrink the gap between curiosity and action. They learn from experiences instead of trying. trying to learn everything in their head and halting themselves before they take the action that will change their life. And then five, they make plans, not really rigid ones, but just ones that align with their values, ones that put their values into their calendar because they know their time is their
Starting point is 00:31:35 most valuable resource and they want to spend it well. None of these are crazy. None of them require a ton of time or a ton of money or a complete personality or life overhaul, but they do add up. They compound. And I really, really, really believe that if you just start integrating even one of them, you will feel a huge difference. So that is my challenge to you. Just pick one thing that I shared in this episode. Try it out for a little bit and just see the results. It's a tiny experiment. It's a tiny experiment to just pick one of these things. Learn as you go, refine as you go, and see the results. If you like this episode, please take just a quick second right now

Every single thing that I just listed has been linked to chemicals and household cleaners. One study found that regular use of cleaning sprays was associated with a lung function
Starting point is 00:35:08 decline comparable to smoking 10 to 20 cigarettes per day. Synthetic fragrances are a well-documented migraine trigger and a number of studies have linked ingredients in common household cleaners to fertility issues, thyroid dysfunction, mood changes, and more because of their impact on our endocrine systems. Luckily, you can just make one simple swap and you can eliminate all of those risk factors that you get from common household cleaners. Branch Basics makes cleaning products that are plant and mineral based, completely fragrance-free, and made safe certified, meaning they are screened against thousands of known and suspected
Starting point is 00:35:43 harmful chemicals. And best of all, you literally use one product. but you mix it with different amounts of water to make your kitchen spray, your bathroom cleaner, your laundry detergent, your produce wash, your glass cleaner, literally everything. It does not smell. It does not give me headaches. It does not give me rashes or itchiness from clothes because you are. Remember, we're using this for laundry. We're using this for literally everything. And it works so well. Everything gets so clean. And I know that I'm protecting myself from all those long-term issues too. And I'm protecting my kittens who are much tinier than me. So anything
Starting point is 00:36:18 they're exposed to has a much greater impact on their little tiny systems. And they're running around on their little paws and then they're licking them. So I'm protecting them too. Branch basics is now available at Target.com, Amazon and branchbasics.com. So it's easier than ever to make the switch. I very rarely get genuinely excited about skincare, but this is one of the most innovative products
Starting point is 00:37:01 that I have come across in years and I am so obsessed with it. I've been telling all of my friends to get it, so now I need to tell you guys. Here's some science first. Your skin isn't just getting older. It's being actively broken down by something called senescent cells. These are cells that have stopped functioning but refuse to die. They sit there, releasing inflammatory signals, breaking down your collagen, degrading your skin barrier, and accelerating every visible sign of aging. Scientists call them zombie cells and as they accumulate, they are one of the primary drivers of how old your skin looks and feels. The team at one skin, a group of female longevity researchers and PhDs, spent five years testing over 900 peptides to figure out how
Starting point is 00:37:44 to help reduce the accumulation of senescent cells. And they finally landed on it. OSO1, the first peptide scientifically studied to reduce skin's biological age at the molecular level. OSO1 goes in and it clears out the senescent cells so it helps skin function like healthier, younger looking skin. It is not masking the signs of aging. It's not targeting one thing.
Starting point is 00:38:07 It is actually rolling the clock back at a cellular level. I've been using the face moisturizer for almost six months now, and I love it so much. It feels amazing. It goes on really smoothly. It's not tacky at all. And I actually see a difference, which I just feel like is never the case with skincare. You want to always like see a real difference and you're kind of like, do, do I? Do I? And this I genuinely do. Because it's clearing the senescent cells, it doesn't just target one thing. So my skin looks firmer. It looks glowier. The texture feels dramatically smoother. And I feel like you can see that too. I also love the body moisturizer. It dries down really quickly, which is always a pet peeve of mine with moisturizers. I hate that like sticky feeling when you go to put your clothes on. This does not do
Starting point is 00:38:50 that. But it does moisturize really, really well. And then again, I'm reducing my skin's biological age. I am not making it just look younger. I am making it actually younger. OneSkin has four peer-reviewed clinical studies and over 10,000 five-star reviews. The data backs everything up.
