Starting point is 00:00:59 You've been a bad, bad dog. feel like if more people knew me i would be huge the mark is just oversaturated with a lot of girls like you the pick-me girl is not like the other girls she's effortlessly beautiful after waking up at 4 a m to put her face together effortlessly marries her best friend's boyfriend just for but get a wedding and effortlessly affords a beautiful home how does she get everything she wants I have nothing. Nothing is a coincidence. It's all marketing.
Starting point is 00:01:35 I have that. Don't I have that? As your marketing bestie, who graduated top 1% UCLY business economics with a background in marketing, we're going to study how exactly did euphoria's Cassie Howard get everything she wants through three marketing manipulations. The most self-centered idiotic person I have ever fucking made. But the ultimate price to pay for. abusing them. Is everything okay? Of course.
Starting point is 00:02:06 It's my wedding day. I'm supposed to be the best of my life. And how this perfectly ties into the downfall of euphoria for overusing the same type of pick me marketing. That turned an iconic show into a 45% rotten embarrassment. Really had girls gagging and dogs licking shit off of a girl's butt in the first episode just to get a reaction out of the first episode just to get a reaction out of the of the internet. Quote, grubby, desperate, and absolutely not worth the weight. Is this the last season? I think so. Because Brandy is not about sloppy your name on a poster. It's how your future college,
Starting point is 00:02:46 future boss, future boyfriend sees you. So that makes you a what? A prostitute. And yes, you have one. Just working with Zendaya and Sydney and Jacob. Sydney! I'm creating the series to study pop culture brands from a marketing perspective and thought my notes might be helpful to you. And what could have helped Cassie's social media growth instead of barking like a dog is working smarter. Having a taste? What do you mean taste? As you know, I grew 300,000 followers on Instagram by just doing one thing.
Starting point is 00:03:23 Clipping my long-form videos so they become more discoverable on Instagram. At first, by wasting 40 minutes to an hour to manually edit each, we're talking about hundreds of videos. But then I discovered Opus clip. That effortlessly helps me find the most shareable moments, the ones that get millions of views on TikTok, and turn my 12-minute video into a week of content. That auto-publishes for me, basically a full-time assistant creative director
Starting point is 00:03:48 for the price of a Chipotle ball. However, you get to try Opus for free with a link in the description and can now clip anything, anywhere anytime, simply on your phone with Opus Mobile. Don't forget me when you're famous, think me later. Starting point is 00:04:13 expand your mind. As the infamous Sam Levinson describes Cassie in an expensive way, quote, you don't see a girl that beautiful to be that desperate. And I think it's that combination of her desperation and need for validation that makes the character so brilliant. Is it brilliant? were one of the inevitable downfalls of euphoria. What the hell? Euphoria season three has a lot of issues. It scares me that like that is the level that we have to take content to, like, keep people's attention. Sam Levinson seems to think that the most degrading and depraved thing woman can do is engage in sex work.
Starting point is 00:04:51 Perversion for shock value. Let's go back to Cassie 1.0. Might not be the most likable character, but someone you felt empathy for. She was just a girl who wanted to be loved, hot, sweet, agreeable, but used over and over by men in her life. I'm pregnant. What? A tragic childhood being sexualized and an addict dad who abandoned her. Quote, Cassie fell in love with every guy she ever dated.
Starting point is 00:05:17 Whether they were smart or stupid or sweet or cruel, it didn't matter. She didn't like to be alone. Fleeting male tension defied herself worth. And she began forgetting that she has talents and value outside of just her. her body. But unlike her sister who grew up under the same roof, Cassie made a choice to always and forever be picked at all cost. Hey Cass. How long have you been fucking Nate Jacobs? You're f***. Nate? Are you kidding me? No, I don't even know why she would say that. You dumb. Cassie 2.0. The way Cassie 2.0. The way Cassie
Starting point is 00:06:02 as it markets herself to receive validation, is to a large extent similar to how the show Euphoria is trying to gather as many eyeballs as possible. Regardless of the cost, they really wreak desperation while trying to mask it as true love or art. Ew, yuck! So, what are the techniques?
Starting point is 00:06:25 And are they flopping? I don't think it's any coincidence that I felt like after I watched the first episode. Marketing Manipulation 1. The Body Billboard. Don't underestimate me. Cassie's brand is built almost entirely on her physical appearance. Her curves, her femininity, her hotness.
Starting point is 00:06:44 She uses her body to get attention, keep attention, monetize attention. As she begins in season 3 and only fans to pay for a 50K wedding floor arrangement. You want to sell your body for floral arrangements? I will if I have to. Staples Preferred Business Membership, built for busy business owners, because you've got bigger things to think about. With Staples Preferred, get free delivery, no minimums.
Starting point is 00:07:15 Staples Preferred unlocks up to 3% back, plus 10% savings on print and exclusive wireless offers. One less thing on your plate. Actually, a lot less. Visit staples.ca.ca. That was easy. Are you one of those media strategy people Clicking through slides
Starting point is 00:07:33 scrolling spreadsheets? Yes? Good. This is for you. Because on Spotify there's an audience that's different. Locked in. Loyal. Invested. They're called fans. Fans don't just listen to music.
Starting point is 00:07:46 They feel seen by it like it belongs to them. So when your brand shows up on Spotify, that's who you're talking to. And you're right next to artists like me, Lizzo. So, are you ready to talk to fans? Spotify Advertising. You're among fans. Absolutely not.
Starting point is 00:08:05 No. It gave a really big problem. Does it work? Sure, but even with only two episodes of season 3 out, we know that this is her only card left. Imagine still stalking your ex-best friend who you stole your fiancé from, then begging her to get some professional help to launch your OF career because you know you have no taste or have a brain cell,
Starting point is 00:08:30 then invite her to your wedding just to see your future husband look at her in the way you'll never look at you. despite your glamorous supreme hotness. Hashtag winning. My Maddie? No, my Maddie. Cassie doesn't realize that her only asset, her hotness is perishable and so replaceable.
Starting point is 00:08:49 But look at how Euphoria was also marketed. Sydney Sweeney's body became the most viral marketing asset of the show. The Cassie Gifts, the shirtless scenes, the bathroom make out, these circulated online constantly and function as free advertising. Sydney Sweeney even told the Independent that there were scenes where Cassie, quote, was supposed to be shirtless and I would tell Sam, I don't really think that's necessary here. The over-sexualization of the show for the sake of over-sexualizing seems to do numbers. The question is, how soon will everyone get tired of it?
Starting point is 00:09:21 How did you take that show seriously? It's just bad. The show is completely different. Like the way Nate is tired of Cassie. What the f*** is wrong with you? Okay. Just like Cassie, Euphoria is becoming less and less likable. because of marketing manipulation too. Constant rebranding. Is she rebranding or is she just lost? It just feels a little desperate.
Starting point is 00:09:45 It feels like you're trying way too hard instead of just being. Being what? Yourself? Who am I? Cassie's appearance, makeup, and wardrobe always dramatically adapts to whoever she is currently attached to,
Starting point is 00:10:00 whether Maddie, Nate McKay, or a random boyfriend. She wakes up every day at 4 a.m. to do a full beauty routine so Nate might notice her. Such a hard worker. But ignored each time until she dresses exactly like Maddie. Or like a clown auditioning for Oklahoma. Why the fuck would you audition for Oklahoma? I'm not.
Starting point is 00:10:20 Then why the f***es you look like you're auditioning for Oklahoma? If you're not auditioning for Oklahoma, then why do you look like that? Yes! I even love to give me that look, Maddie, because I didn't have your boyfriend. You two were broken up for three weeks and three days before we even had sex. to betray you. Plus, you guys are terrible for each other and you know I'm right and you guys can all judge me if you want, but I do not care. I have never, ever been happier. There's nothing wrong with rebranding, but Cassie's rebrands are of a different nature. She's constantly rebranding in hopes of winning the validation of whoever she is trying to please.
Starting point is 00:10:57 Meaning she has no core identity and that makes her disposable. Because she's just an empty show of pure marketing. There's nothing inside but desperation. In similar fashion, euphoria has not stopped rebranding since season one. Like this person said, season one high school drama, season two, a play, season three, breaking bad, with an only fan subplot. Quote, this trailer feels like either I miss a season or is a whole new show. Quote, I appreciate this because I have no intention to ever watch the actual show. Quote, Zendaya just casually carrying this year. While Zendaya made one post about it and was done. She's probably distancing herself from all the negative branding association with the show too.
Starting point is 00:11:45 Just like Cassie, Euphoria's identity keeps shifting because the real thing underneath is insufficient. The show shapeshifts to stay relevant. Throw in a little GTA, a little gun, balloon swallowing, a lot of disgusting, disturbing scenes. Anything to keep the people watching. But perhaps the most icky, pick-me tactic is. Marketing Manipulation 3. Performative vulnerability. Unlike Nate, whose power depends on physical intimidation and manipulation, Cassie's desperation to be picked
Starting point is 00:12:18 leads her to exploit the trust people had in her, turning intimacy into a weapon, friendship into a tactical advantage. When Cassie cries breaks down or spirals publicly, the audience and other characters read it as weakness, just how she wants you to. Her pain becomes the thing that makes people stay. Pay attention, feel responsible for her. Visible suffering got her what she wanted and helps her perform innocence.
Starting point is 00:12:46 As the performer, of course stealing Nate from her best friend Maddie is not enough. She craves a bigger stage, not just for the money, but for more visibility, more attention, more validation. Euphoria as a show does the same thing. Marketing itself on raw, honest depictions of trauma, performing, vulnerability while fetishizing pain and abuse, spilling neon lights, and adding glitter tears. Cassie performs her pain for Nate to be picked. The show performs provocative trauma to be picked. Cassie doesn't love anyone. She's not even capable of loving herself. She performs love.
Starting point is 00:13:23 The grand gestures, the declarations, a total self-erasure for the sake of a relationship, willing to sell her body just so she can buy the biggest floor arrangements to perform a quote non-getto wedding to perform love. Anything she does is for the sake of eyeballs. And euphoria turned into the same. It's all about being provocative for the sake of being provocative, just to be picked. But are they picked? What is the inevitable?
Starting point is 00:13:53 Branding downfall of Pick Me Marketing. Simple. If you haven't guessed, by the way, how just the first episode is making people puke. Eventually even the hate watching will stop. Attention can trick you into thinking you're winning. But without respect, you're disposable. Sustainable brands give something to their audience. Value, identity, meaning a feeling.
Starting point is 00:14:20 Failing brands extract from their audience. Attention, money, emotional labor. Cassie and Euphoria are both fakers and takers. Starting with Cassie, every version of her is dependent on something. else. McKay's girlfriend, Maddie's best friend, Nate's secret, Nate's fiance, she cannot exist as her own person. Even with OnlyFans, where it seems like she's becoming the breadwinner, she still needs Maddie to direct her. You want my professional opinion? Yes, fuck, finally, I mean, this is why I'm here. She is slowly selling off
Starting point is 00:14:53 every asset she has, lowering her value for the desperation of attention and validation. Similarly with euphoria, what used to be a real-time cultural mood board. Now with the GTA guns and fetish provocativeness is really doing almost anything for a view. Like Cassie, for the sake of attention, euphoria is forgetting what it was to begin with. Picme marketing works until people realize you're asking to be chosen instead of being impossible to ignore. Like Warren Buffett says, quote, it takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. And what is a brand but a reputation? But who knows? Comment below if you think Cassie or Euphoria are on a rise or downfall.
