This is Matt and Ross in the morning.
Six o'clock at H-Town.
Good morning.
And welcome to a Monday edition.
It's Matt and Ross in the morning on Sports Talk 790.
Days Rossville Real.
We mix the highlights of the two local teams.
Yes.
Losing their Sunday games.
One of them in back-to-back Sundays completing a sweep.
Or completing getting swept?
Getting swept.
Sure, why not?
Who, Lord.
Getting broomed out of St. Pete and broomed out of Diken.
With huge crowds, too.
I mean, big crowd.
I was there on Sunday.
Wait, that was yesterday.
Feels like two days ago at this point.
Yeah.
I work Saturday because the Clinton walks or don't.
That's okay.
And not it's not really, but it's, you know, it is.
It is what it is.
Yeah.
And well,
not a good couple of weekends for,
oh, the Astros are fine against 500 teams, guy.
No, they're not.
They're not fine against anybody.
Let me ask you this.
Well, seven of the last nine.
How does O and two Texans guy feel after last year's O' and three Texans guy?
You're feeling like it could be worse, I guess.
You're also feeling like, uh, at least these are two of the toughest matchups,
but you got them both at home.
So it would have been nice to get a split.
Yep.
down two home games, but now
you're down 0 and 2.
In an 02 hole. On the road against the
Colts, say it with me. I'm sure
everyone's going to be saying it. Nobody's saying it.
Not a soul. Oh, you're a liar.
Not a soul. It's a must win
game against the Colts this
week. Nobody's saying that.
Jonathan said must win
against the Bengals last week. Did you really say that,
Jonathan? It was, and look how bad
the season's going to be. It's going to be
fine. It beat the Colts,
the beat the Cowboys,
hosts the go on the Titans,
winning the next three.
I'm not going to guarantee that at all.
No, you shouldn't.
Nor should I, nor will I.
But by the way,
may I,
I'm going to already claim a gut-feeling victory.
Oh, here we go.
I got to do it.
Go ahead.
I told you the running game
was not going to be squat.
Now, look,
Montgomery had a good first week,
but that was a lot of his work
was done as a receiver.
That ground game was atrocious yesterday.
Well, Dexter Lawrence in the middle,
is not going to be in the middle
of every defense.
That is true.
That is good.
Yeah.
But it was atrocious.
A combined 14 carries for 18 yards for Woody Marks and David Montgomery.
Nothing doing for anyone.
And I will say this.
And most of my tweets get very few mentions or reads or likes.
They're more like Matt.
What are you talking about?
Stop nerding out about a variety of things.
But I really mean this.
And I won't even say this for it to tell the truth this morning.
I'd have a bad body language, too, if I was given this offensive line.
And I mean, oh wow, look at you, 1,000 likes.
Yeah.
If I was given this, the running back situation, minus Joe Mixen, obviously, who's out with a gunshot wound,
to his foot, allegedly.
According to you.
And Jonathan backs me up on that.
And you and the internet rumors.
I know.
We're in a small collective group, but we're with each other.
I mean, it's too early to do same old, same all, but why not?
I'm not going to necessarily go there.
I will say same old Texans in a couple of ways.
Yeah, the offensive line got wrecked.
Also, I mean, Dex-Lorence was just having a field day all day long.
I mean, come on.
Yeah, you're missing Ed Ingram.
Wyatt Teller's not very good.
The running game was not much of anything.
And then D'Amico Ryan just continues to be remarkably conservative.
kicking that 58-yard field goal.
Was it a fourth and one, right?
It was under one, basically.
Oh my gosh.
And I mean, I know that it's Mr. Automatic, but 50, and maybe we're just becoming accustomed to Ross 58-yarders being chip shots.
They're still not chip shots.
You're down at that point.
I believe it was 14 to 3, right?
I have to go back and look at the exact score.
You're down in the game.
If you're up and you want to be conservative, D'Amico Ryan's, and say, we're going to rest on our defense, I get it.
And also, if he had a ran for one yard and they didn't get it.
it. We would have said, how are you, how are you
this dumb? Why are you running?
You're getting crushed in the interior and you're
trying to run for fourth and one. You should be
kicking the field goal. I wouldn't have said that, but some
people would have, so you're damned if you do, damned if you don't.
But you cannot, you cannot
kick the field goal there.
That was just,
I don't want to say unbelievable because it's DiMiko
Ryan's. It was an Uber
conservatives compared to normally his conservative.
Yes. That's what I thought. And then you missed the field goal. It's exactly
what, I mean, you have to point out, it's like
a buck guy never, never remembers that
sometimes the bunts are unsuccessful and they pop out the bun or you can bun on two strikes and then you're out.
People who are conservative about take the three points, take the three points.
Well, the three points aren't always there.
Sometimes you miss.
And yeah, at that point, it's 10 to 3, okay, so not 14 to 3.
You're still down a touchdown and it's fourth and one.
No, I mean, I think the rationale is very simple for D'Amico.
I have one of the best kickers in the game.
He hits 55-yarders like their chip shots normally.
this one was on target
it would have gone through
if it was a 53 yard field goal
but it wasn't
but you know what
sometimes you get the wedge out
and you're a little short
on the little pop shots
what happened last year
they were doing the
the tush push with Cade Stover
like do something
I don't know
who false to get the Fostermore row push in there
well you know a part of it also
is that there was no trust in running game
yeah
and so do you quarterback scramble a stroud
I mean do you try a little slip screen
yeah sneak it
I'll get Davis Mills's long neck in there
and sneak it
he's live with that long
neck for all of his life. You don't have to keep bringing it up.
Exactly. He can get over the line.
Oh, you're saying he put his head in front of the end. Yeah. That's terrible.
Write that down 1130 for Friday.
Why? Don't. Poor Davis. No, poor Davis. No, he's making like three million a year. He's not
poor. He's fine. Do you want three million not playing a long neck or do you want to be who you are today?
What do you mean? What? You got options. Rossville or Real. Okay. Regular size neck.
Okay. Or Davis Mills, three million dollars a year with a long neck. I mean,
Davis Mills probably doing better than I am. But I don't know. But I don't know.
I'm happy in my own life, so I'm going to choose my life.
Okay, that's the right call.
Okay.
I thought Chase...
The morning drive of Matt Thomas and Houston, Texas.
Living a good life.
Yep.
I thought Chase Brown was good yesterday.
I thought Jamar Chase was...
It was okay.
Exquisite.
That first touchdown.
I mean, look, that's another thing.
You're getting all-world touchdown scored on you at the beginning of the game, too.
That's what Jamar Chase does.
Yeah, that's what he does.
And by the way, I keep waiting for Joe Burroughs back to fall apart here.
And I'm going to go to him to Grimmis.
He got hit a bunch yesterday.
Yeah.
He got crunch.
DeMille Hunter. The defense was good. Yeah, it was.
The defense did their part. Yeah. Yeah, you're right. They did not.
The offense, I should say.
Yep. I should say putting points on the board. If you don't look at the score,
the Texans crushed the Bengals. 375 yards to 267,
22 first downs to 12. So if you're looking for silver lines, you can go with that,
but they went over four on fourth downs and you had a miss field goal.
So that's the story of the game.
And again, never is a good time for C.J. Stroud to throw the ball 55 times in a football game.
Yeah, he looked mostly good.
He didn't cost you the game.
But again, this is the C.J. Straub problem sometimes.
Even when he didn't cost you the game, he didn't go win you the game.
Well, when one part of your offense is Rossi non-existent.
Right.
You could not trust the running game at all.
know whether that's the fact that two guys don't have enough juice or the offensive.
I mean, I think frankly, and again, I don't look at all 22.
I don't have a football mine.
I think I've got another thing going on.
But it felt like to me the offensive line just can't do the job.
The offensive line, yet again, Nikki, see?
Nikki, you listening right now?
Because I know you're awake.
Why don't you get to off and stop going after the Dollar General for offensive linemen?
This is ridiculous.
Again, Ross.
this is happening.
It's O line, O line, O line.
That's all we talk about here.
Well, he tries to address it.
Yeah, he just whiffs.
And I like the moves that he made.
Braden Smith and Wyatt Taylor and Keelan Rutledge.
Rutledge is fine.
There are two guys who are.
Browns.
They just are.
Rutledge is getting mixed up with people.
It's all good.
Oh, 15-yard penalty.
He was the second guy in on that.
Mm-mm-mm.
All right.
Six o'clock maniacs.
So, Cassari, if you're listening, call us right now and apologize to the city of Houston.
He's not going to apologize to the city, Houston.
You're like our old producer, David, asking Lance McCullough, Jr. to apologize.
David, artist, if you listen, that was an O'DU.
713-212-5-7-90.
7-13-212-5-7-90.
More sad stuff in Houston.
We haven't mentioned.
Or Houston Sports.
Go ahead.
What is it?
You know.
Friday night?
Friday.
That was pretty heartbreaking.
Yeah.
Well, we didn't tackle very well.
That's a reality of it.
I mean, it was a beautiful drive.
Great drive that came literally.
That was a, that was the, he less than a yard short, right?
Oh, yeah.
I mean, really close.
I thought he was in there.
The officials did not agree with you.
I was for the kukes.
Cookees.
No, I mean, I thought he was in live.
After the replay, no.
Yeah, he was done.
He was fine.
I'm sorry.
All right, we're going to watch a little Monday night football tonight.
Rams and Giants.
Let's get some chips.
Yeah.
You don't not be mad at Ross and Kai Kroger on the morning much longer.
Jesus.
What the hell was that?
On the botch snap?
And then he says, I'm just going to throw it out of bounds?
Forgot about the botch snap too.
Oh, my God.
Oh, man.
I won't talk to Frank Rowls.
Let's kiss and disgusting Frank Rowe.
Shut up.
Water carriers.
Just Lord.
Game sucked yesterday.
CJ 55 times.
Kai Kroger throwing up.
out of bounds. I mean,
even Harland and Green are like,
huh? What the hell was that?
You do practice Ross, botch snaps.
Unfortunately, it's part of life.
Yeah, it, I mean, it feels like it's pretty rare.
It's rare, but you have to practice it.
You got a botch snap.
You had a miss field goal.
You can't get four downs.
And it was third and one before
D'emico Ryan's
so cowardlyly decided to, yeah,
I just made it up board.
It's fine.
Look, I do that all the time.
Before he did that, it was a third and one,
and Woody Marks literally could not even get the one yard.
So that made it fourth and a little bit shorter of a one.
Yep.
But still, you just can't kick that field goal down 10 to 3 in the second half.
You got to go for something there.
And again, 58 yards, I know we feel pretty good about Kimey Fairbairn,
but it's also not 100%.
I'll be honest, if it's 50 yards, I'll do it.
No, no.
No, no, you got to go first.
You're down 10 to 3.
You need 7.
But the thing of it is, if you're relying on the defense at 10 3.
If you're relying on them to score, you a touchdown?
I don't know.
58 was too much, was a little much, especially in the situation.
If it's 50, I mean, it'd have been three points.
It would have been.
It was for the situation.
I get it because, again, they were short.
They didn't get the fourth and one.
They didn't get the third in one.
So you're not getting crushed in the middle.
Run a sneak.
something. Yeah, I mean, why not
Turn around? I mean, Dalton
Schultz was man, awesome
yesterday. Yeah, he was. I mean, it was also a lot
of check down Charlie stuff too in the second
half. Why not try some of that? I mean, I don't know.
It's just, you just didn't have,
you had no Nico Collins.
Again, you had no run game, so
I get it, but in C.J. Stryl was pretty good,
all things considered.
It was 350 yards, but also was 55
attempts, like you're saying. So,
Noel's got some speed to him.
Hutchinson, I don't want, I'm
done. The end around with Noel was nice.
Hutchinson, I mean, he's just a guy.
Just a guy.
He's perfect. He's a perfect WR4.
You know what he is?
He's playing when you're beating the Colts 27 to 3.
I mean, you had passes that just barely missed him in the end zone.
You had a couple others in the end zone you could have had some drops on third downs.
It just was a bad, overall, it was a bad football game.
The offense just is not matching up with the defense.
Will Anderson could smell the breath of Joe Burrell most of the day.
Daniel Hunter got in there as well.
Defense was better. I'm not going to say the offense was bad.
This was just, you ended up with a bunch of drives where you miss a field goal,
you fumble a snap on a field goal, and then, yeah, a couple of fourth downs.
Yeah.
It could have been better.
Obviously, you look at the six points and you're like, wow, they were terrible.
They almost had 400 yards.
They're moving the ball some.
They just could not put a stamp on any of the drives.
Yeah.
Got to finish.
Got to finish.
Well, they didn't.
And now they're O in two.
And they're going to win Indianapolis this week, so nothing to worry about.
I'm a little worried.
I love the Colts can put up some points.
I didn't see every bit of the game.
last time because we have to sleep.
Yeah. But that thing went down
to the last second.
Harrison Butler wins it again for the
Cults, for the Chiefs.
So Buffalo...
Ham Oms looking pretty good. Ross, you got
Kansas City scoring a boatload of points.
You've got Buffalo scoring a whole lot of points.
You've got Baltimore.
Off to a good start.
Yeah, well, they just lost
to the... They lost yesterday.
Baltimore.
But yeah, the Bengals beat you.
The bills beat you. And then the Chiefs are
looking pretty good.
Raiders, there's only four two and O teams in the AFC.
So that's good. The other one is the Raiders. And I don't think we're on a Raider watch quite yet.
Chargers are O and 2. That's good.
And you go there?
I don't know how Charger Jonathan's feeling about the Chargers.
It's funny. He's been awfully quiet in the first 24 minutes of the show.
I think they're 0 and they had the bills this week.
Yeah, it's a wrap.
And by the way, that game's in Buffalo too.
They're horrible.
They lost to the Cardinals and the Raiders.
What's going on? I thought Mike McDaniel, boy genius.
I wanted him here in Houston.
Who was the leader of that? Me?
I'll raise my hand in defeat.
I'll take the L on that one.
Yeah.
It's okay. It's just two games.
No, no, that's right. This is what we do as sports fans and as host.
The Owen 2 mark is the one that usually resonates more in the NFL circles.
Although, again, here in Houston, we did the exact same thing a year ago.
and we said this team was toast after 0 and 3
and they wound up being a really good football
team that ended up in the normal spot
which was eliminated in the second round of the playoffs.
There is a metric called success rate, Matt.
I don't know how familiar you are with that.
What level of college would that have been?
For example, Matt, if you're on first and 10,
you get a seven-yard run, that's a successful run.
Yes.
So I don't know the exact definition of success rate.
I will just tell you on Texans rushes,
they had a 16.7%
rush rate, success rate.
meaning they failed to run the ball successfully almost 84% of the time.
I don't know anything to tell you a whole lot about metrics,
but if you're failing 84% of the time, it's not good.
And how do you fix that?
Well, I'm legitimately asking.
It was better week one.
Montgomery was effective in week one.
You take that every single week.
Now, I'm not asking, now, look, I don't think the Colts are pretty good on the interior, too.
I think the rushing game is going to be as atrocious as it was yesterday.
But I don't hold hope that it's going to be all of a sudden.
One running back can get you 1,000 yards.
One's going to get you 750, especially for a team.
Ross, what do we hear over and over again about what this team does every July?
They want to be a run-based offense.
D'Amico Ryan wants to run the damn ball.
He does.
Ball control, not flashy.
Let me tell you something.
If you think D'Amico Ryan slept last line after having his quarterback to throw the ball 55 times, you are mistaken.
He's not down.
that. He's down with 58-yard field
goals from Kimey Fairbairn and winning like
12 to 9. That's what he likes.
And most times, when the wedge
comes up from 100 yards,
Kami sticks it within
three feet of the pin. He was short, though.
That's the weird thing. Once I saw it down in the middle,
I was like, oh, this is good.
And then it was short.
That was definitely
certainly unfair-Bern-like.
It's almost like a
Major League better losing bat speed and not
being able to hit warning trek fly balls
is that created a home runs.
Just on that out there.
Speaking of baseball.
We'll address some of that during the sounds at 630.
That's coming up next year.
That was by anything can happen with the Astros crowd.
Anything can happen, including B out of the playoffs.
Seattle's awaiting this, and they're done, and the A's are awaiting it.
Okay.
Well, the Rangers, you see who the Rangers have, the Mets and the Twins.
All right.
Sounds at 630 are next, and we're not just going to play crying forever and ever.
Oh, it would be a terrible sound.
It was just a weeping.
Yeah, I'll cry.
All right.
713, 212-5-790.
7-13-212-5-790.
If you're your 6 o'clock mania, come on in and say hello to us.
Well, that sounds very inviting.
Well, it all sounds exciting.
That sounds like a threat.
That sounds stupid.
And now, Matt and Ross bring you sounds at 630.
Here we go. Ross, we'll start with you. Refresh on the Texans mind here at 633.
All right. Well, Texans start in an 0-2 hole. They've been down to a lot of slow starts with D'emiko Ryan's as head coach.
D'emico Ryan's asked, do you ever look at past seasons when you started slow for some lessons, try to learn from past slow starts, D'Amico?
Nothing. We got to go to work. We got to go play good football. That's bottom line.
Like, it's nothing to look back on of what happened in the past. Like, this team right now,
2026 Texans have to dig deep, look down, all of us look down, look deep within ourselves,
and see how can we find a way to play better football? You win when you play good football.
Right now we haven't played good football as a team collectively the first two weeks of the season.
If we want to win, we play better, we coach it better.
we'll find ourselves in a winning position.
No lessons to be learned.
If you want to win,
play good football.
I love it.
He keeps it nice and simple.
No need to read between the,
what do they call it?
Read between the lines?
Yeah.
Yeah.
He's straightforward.
There you don't panic.
Nick Casario may be panicking a little bit.
I don't think he's panicking.
You're right.
He does not yet.
What was the last time
that Nick Casario panicked about anything?
You know we're doing a,
what's that?
They panicked about anything?
in life.
Not revolving around like a family injury or something.
He was ordering clothes and they were out of stock on his favorite sweater vest.
Like, how about this?
When there's a barbecue glaze on top of his grilled chicken.
Oh, he's like that.
I can't eat this, but I'm hungry.
Too much too gross.
Yeah, I got you.
You were going to say something about it.
Oh, okay.
Let's pretend we're doing a, um, we need to do this every week, actually.
I just came up with this.
We need to pretend we're doing the C.J. Stroud and David Mulligeta scorecard.
Okay, talk
What do you think?
Week one was a boge
Oh, we're doing golf scores
Yeah
Huh
What do you think week two is a par
Week one bogey
Week two is a par
And we're at plus one
Which means you can birdie three
And get even
Absolutely
Yeah
And maybe he'll have an eagle
You know it's funny
He can go on the road
And get an eagle
I am going to bring back
Stroud coin
I never had Stroud coin
But we're going to do
Stroud coin on Twitter this year
Okay
And I want to do this
I want to do the Stroud scorecard every week.
So write those down.
Okay.
So right now they're plus one through two.
Yeah.
Not great.
Right.
But it's not the worst start ever.
And you're still in the tournament.
Yeah, absolutely.
Because if you triple bogeyed one, then you'd be in massive trouble.
Yeah.
You finished the season last year with two triple bogeys.
And you're out of the tournament.
Well, you put a goose egg on the score.
You never want to put a snowbird on the on there.
Which I've done.
That's why I quit playing golf.
You know what?
I'm starting this on.
on Twitter. I'm putting this right now.
CJ Stroud through two.
He's at a plus one.
By the way, Nick Cayley Corn is out.
It's been, I've labeled it as junk bond status.
How's crypto doing, by the way? I haven't asked you that long time.
Bitcoin rallied a little bit. It's over 80K this past weekend.
You know okay then?
Mm-hmm. Okay.
It went, it was at 60K a while, a long time.
I go crashed at 30, and that's when you told me it was done.
Then it went out to 120, and then it crashed back down to 60, and now it's at 80.
Okay.
volatile. Yeah, it's really
valid. I did bump my 401k, I'll just let you know.
What does that mean? Your contributions? Yeah. That's good.
Our company less is a new 10% now, yeah.
Oh, you can do up to 25%.
Mm-mm. Yeah, you can't.
Not 25. They're not going to match.
No, but I mean, yeah, they're matching to 10, so I'm all unfit.
What? Yeah. I think, yeah.
That's not accurate. I don't think you put 25% of your salary in a 401k.
Yes, you can. I'm going to get the email.
Oh, and when I get it right? Oh, do they limit it? Yeah. Okay.
Did they change the match?
Yeah, it's an up.
Oh, you know, it's probably higher for me because you make more money.
Hmm.
They're like, we don't care about 25% of five bucks.
Oh, that's horrible.
Yeah, that is horrible.
Send me that email.
You've guilted me now.
I was not on that email.
Sorry, Ross.
I afford that one to me.
All right, moving on.
So when Andre Johnson was a Texan, and even post-onre Johnson player, we obviously saw
that last week with CJ.
When he speaks,
people listen.
Well, guess who spoke yesterday
in the Astros Clubhouse
after getting swept
by the Atlanta Braves?
My sound at 630 is
Jordan Alvarez
talking about,
well, needless to say,
a little meeting
that was held
after yesterday's ballgame.
You know,
we had a team meeting
about that.
We had a conversation
about that.
You know,
basically for us,
it was three straps in the face,
you know,
that they gave us
right in front of our fans,
especially.
And just to just tomorrow
to, you know, take it as a reset day and rest.
And then, you know, there's only, the only thing left is to go out there and win the six
games that we had left.
We've spoken at the meeting.
What was your, what was your message today?
No, that's us.
It's personal.
It's personal.
Just you reading anybody else?
Anything?
Krored into the Krojao.
No, I don't have to give details about the team.
That stays inside the clubhouse.
I don't want to give details about the team meeting.
So you will not know.
we're all good now team meeting the troops are rallied let's go here's my issues with team meetings
uh-huh this is like the second one at least they've had this year you're staring at
bryce matthews taylor tremel hey come on now christian walker cam smith hey cam smith is long like a nice
oh for 26 spell like like
Jonathan, I'm all going to bring you a little track career in there because it was very successful.
Listen to me.
If your guys aren't good and can't run the speeds, you can scream at them all you want to.
But if they're eating cheeseburgers and fries while they're talking to you, it's not going to happen.
Trust me.
Oh, that's a good analogy.
I know that.
Yeah, you ever had like the most rousing and wonderful speech ever?
And you're like, man, I'm ready to run through a brick wall.
And then you'll just go get destroyed.
It would be like us here.
That's right.
It'd be like us saying, look, we're all overworked.
worked here at 790.
Uh-huh.
Clayton and Wex, sir.
We need you to pick up some 10th innings and on-deck shows.
Can you please step up for us and they're listening to something else?
Wex is already thinking about walking out with wax and AC's thinking about playing his next video game.
It just doesn't happen.
Oh for 26.
Cam Smith is on.
I mean, it's that bad.
And you have been bullish on him and I backed up your bullishness?
Yeah, but now you're full of bullish.
Yeah, it's full of bullish right now.
Well, right before that, though, he was a hit three hundred.
home runs in three games.
OPS is 662.
Ooh.
Mm-hmm.
Not good.
Yep.
What do you think he said?
Well, Yordon's still going to...
What can Yorndon say?
Honestly, let's play a quick game, but what did Yoron say?
You think he chokeslammed Nick Allen?
I mean, how do you fix this?
This is who they've been.
And why speak about it six games left?
I mean, you don't know what it were.
The question was acid answers.
So I'm okay with that
Because this is the last road trip
I mean and they got bitch slapped by the Braves
Do you think?
How does Jordan Alvarez say
Brian King
Continue to keep throwing the 86-mile-hour pus
And it's being launched
Hey, Brian King had not given up a run
For four straight outings
We talked about last week
He was rounding in a form
I got a turn
Does Ronald Lacunae get his jersey retired
At Deakin Park?
No, he doesn't get his jersey retired
He doesn't play here long enough
Good God
A.J. Blueball
with a bad weekend, too, by the way.
You know what? He's in that same spot
as a lot of these middle relievers. He's throwing
too much. He's out of gas.
He's out of gas.
Tatsu you might got you two shout out innings.
What does an in-count, by the way?
It's got to be around 77-ish.
I'd have to go look.
Which means, does he, let me tell you.
75 and 2-thirds.
Oh, he's not getting 80. There's no chance.
There's no chances to get into that point.
No.
All right, 6-4.
They pulled the parachute on him big time.
Well, I mean, again, I'd like to say
That's the Astros being cheap,
but they already paid him 18 million for being completely a huge disaster.
So, you know, in this case, I don't blame them.
You know what?
I just don't get it.
I get it.
I mean, he's been pretty good in relief for the most part.
Yeah, but what the hell is he?
He's in nine, three games.
We need relievers.
I'm sorry, okay.
Well, let's get more Brian King then.
Oh, here we go.
Let's get more Miguel Uiola.
Oh, by the way, it looks like Ocurt's unavailable until the playoffs.
Yeah.
It was what happened
on September 15th
He's all good
The 21st
Apparently the doctor
On that was also the one
I was handling
Kyle Tucker's bruise
Oh come on
We had the woman
called last week
And she apologized to her doctors
I know
For misdiagnosing her
All right
On the phone's next
643 is our time
It's Matt and Ross
The morning we have out
Is this Roger from
Harlingen
Or is he just down there
Or is this really from Houston
We just don't know
This is Harlington
Harlington?
Harlington is it's Harlington
Is it in Arlington
with an H?
That's, no, stop me.
He's from, he's in Holland.
All right.
Go to break.
643.
I'm still in your line, Jonathan.
I'm sorry.
713, 212579.
713212-579.
All right, listen to me.
Okay.
Did you have success this weekend?
Making predictions on college and pro football.
You've got a, no, pretty good.
Sorry about that.
Sorry for your loss.
A really interesting New York versus L.A.
matchup tonight on Monday night football, and you can trade on that.
We have to consist, we play our brand of the ball for four quarters.
And when something happens, again, like, how do you respond?
And we have to keep responding the right way and not looking down, not wavering.
Oh, man, like, feeling sorry for I feels like, no, like, man, get back up.
We've trained all all season for this.
We know what to expect.
We've been put in these situations.
Let's go get this double and let's finish the game the right way.
I ain't worried about you, Will Anderson.
We're about doing the side of the ball.
You're doing just fine.
You were ferocious.
She's a beast.
So good.
Yeah.
Defense is going to be fine.
Defense was pretty good.
Yeah, Jamar Chase is going to be better than anything.
I mean, Jamar Chase is a better receiver than the Texan secondary is.
Higgins made a crazy sideline catch as well.
Like, the other guys get paid too, as they say.
Which I like you can say that in college football now, too.
Speaking of that.
You lose to Ohio State or Texas.
Yeah, the other guys get paid to.
Yeah, they do.
Aggies, come on in, say hello to us.
Hey!
Y'all were awesome.
We'll be reading some Aggie football tweets letter this morning from the police department.
Couldn't have happened to a nice fan base.
By the way, how is the UK not ranked after that game?
We've got to talk about that later.
By the way, didn't we have Gordian here, Jonathan?
We were like a week or two ago, and I was like, I don't know about Mike Elko.
And he's like, Mike Elko is great coach, great coach.
Is he?
Aggie fans already turned it on that.
I remember that conversation.
Yeah.
Speaking of goal,
we're going on and talk to some Louisiana State football now, baby.
We haven't got to the college football weekend that was.
Yeah.
Cougars came up just short.
It is what it is.
Longhorn's offense sputtered against UTSA.
Archmanning was very vanilla in his postgame press availability.
And how was Sark on the postgame conversation?
You know, the silent reporter for that game is a personal friend of mine,
Austin Ivan.
didn't see it. I'm sure he
He's texting. Yeah, I should text. I'll say how
to go. Yeah, what's up?
By the way, Aggie? Did you, there's any AI videos
if you're getting slapped? Or are we good? Oh, I should
text for that. Okay.
Calamon's terrible.
That offense for the Aggies, I mean,
my, now look, Kentucky was really
good. There was no doubt
Kentucky was one of that football game. Macelle Reed.
Yeah. Yep. Yep. Not good. Not good
at all.
Mm, Marcel.
Mm-mm.
Callum Mon, Marcel, Reed, all of them.
They've had a good for.
Connor Wegman.
Connor, ooh.
Boy, you can't have him back, by the way.
It was a good drive.
That was a great drive.
Just keep a little bit short.
It wasn't.
You can bring Ryan Tannahill back if you want.
You have Johnny Mansell.
You've had a few.
Johnny Mansell's probably got some eligibility back.
Oh, are you kidding me?
He's one to start of this whole mess.
Yeah.
Sondon of those little mini footballs.
Yeah.
That was NIL, right?
That was legitimately NIL.
It was his name and image and likeness.
He should have had a right to that money.
Yeah.
He's doing fine.
And he did.
He's fine.
Which, by the way, yeah, again, he's...
Now, they gave Reggie Bush's highest have been back, but wasn't Reggie Bush?
Like, hey, guys, what about this guy?
He's literally on documentaries.
Like, yeah, I was taking all this cash.
Yeah, that's good.
Let's go to Roger in Harlington.
Where is Harlington?
Where is he in Harlingen?
How are you doing, guys?
Harlingen.
Yeah, Jonathan, say you're sorry for that.
Come on now.
I can't put this in here.
It was on the system already.
It's over here by South Padre Island, the tip of...
We know where it is.
We know where it is.
It's just somebody just...
Go on, Roger.
Okay.
Okay, buddy.
Love your show in the morning to begin with.
It's been a long time that I haven't called, y'all.
I got a question for you guys.
When does the mediocrisy, the mediocre player play from the Texans stop?
You know, when is it enough for...
Nick Tassario to say, hey, you know what?
We have to start benching guys.
We have to start sitting guys.
You know, that guy tell her yesterday, oh, my gosh.
Well, he's a backup.
Yes.
But that offensive line is doomed.
I mean, you can just tell.
I mean, and, you know, the way they're playing, you know, their body language, you know,
when do you put to stop to, I guess, Stroud's mediocre games, you know, the fumble?
Yesterday was not his fault.
He was put in an un-
untenable.
I always hear that term.
Oh, no, it was untenable.
Yeah, it's a Chandler word.
There's no way a Texan's offense is going to require any quarterback,
much less CJ to throw the ball 55 times.
There was a non-existent running game,
and when you were getting less than a yard of carry,
you had to just basically throw the football
and trust that receivers downfield could make some plays.
Noel did that.
Obviously, you saw Dalton Schulz,
that yesterday. They moved.
Stroud made some plays with his feet too.
He was a best runner. He led you in rushing.
Yeah, he was best running back yesterday.
And I get you, I get you guys.
But, you know, did you see Montgomery
he didn't come in
realistically for a lot of plays? You know, they
started putting marks. I don't know if that was the game
plan. But this goes back to
coaching. What's
the offensive court named Nick?
Nick Cayley? Nick Cayley. Yes,
yes. Do you think, do you think
that he will survive by
the end of the year, I mean, with those plays, I mean, you can't just dump and run, you know, dump and run.
That's all they're doing.
There was a lot of plays that I saw out there.
They're not exploiting their speed from either left or right on those receivers.
I know we lost Nico Collins.
But gosh, that's, I mean, you're playing, I hate to say this, but we're starting to
New England ball again.
And we don't have that chemistry.
We don't have that team enough to play New England ball.
Yeah, they don't thank you for the phone call, Roger.
We get into a break.
They don't have enough talent on the offensive side.
Offensive line just isn't much better.
I'm going to say the running back game was a one-off because, again, Montgomery was very effective in week one.
They put up points in week one, Ross.
That wasn't the question.
It was, again, like week one.
It was Montgomery the first couple of drives, and then it was a mix.
So they're trying to start and establish the run with Montgomery, and it's just not working.
No, no.
And the receiving Corey, when you have no Higgins and no Nico Collins,
and I don't even count tank Dell
it's just not going to happen
which I will get by the way
Hey
Let's see he's looking good
You want to surrender by the way
No they're talking about that on the broadcast
Yeah
interviewing him he's feeling good
He's like whoa whoa whoa
Building his strength up
The national media thinks he's in the
Yeah
It's time for you to surrender
Oh sir
It's just for a hash brown
That's not a bad loss
Take the L
Yeah it was it was like
Foster Moreau season
Like, I mean, I guess.
They're not, they're just, there's any team that loses their top two receivers,
one for the season, and one for a week or two weeks, whatever the case.
I mean, you take T. Higgins and, uh, uh, uh, Jemar Chase off the bingles.
What do you got?
And it was a bad day for the offensive line.
I mean, you just had holdings, you had just Dexter.
Dexter Lawrence.
I mean, he was just shredding them like they weren't even there.
And why is Reed Blankenship ever on Jamar Chase?
I mean, like, ever.
depends on, I don't know the coverages?
I don't like the coverages, though.
Okay. I like that at all.
Well, he scored that nasty touchdown on Derek Stingley.
This is Matt and Ross in the morning.
Deep to right, back on it is Hickland at the wall.
See you later.
Opposite field home run for Yiner.
Jonathan?
You can only make this announcement, whether you agree or disagree.
For us as white people, we don't.
love this song because we can dance
of this one. That's fair.
Who can't dance this 21st of September?
That's what I'm saying. Can dance?
Can dance? Or can't attempt to dance? No, well,
yes. That's why it's an all-time
classic. Seven-year-old Matt
walking Soul Train with the Earthwind and
fire on. Oh my God, why was that buggy.
That's how I became the mascot of May Creek High
School is because it's songs like this. That's where you bought that
purple suit with tassels.
Did you have a disco ball growing up?
At the roller rink, yeah, of course.
Mm-hmm.
So let me tell you how the roller rink went.
You went to the roller rink.
You went and skated with your girl.
Okay.
And then you, like, got to first base.
All right.
Me, I was a little portly,
so I'd eat chili cheese fritos.
Frito pie, as a kid would call it,
large iceys and would skate by myself and fall down.
Could you go backwards?
No chance.
No.
Did I have rollerblades back then?
I can't roll up.
No, no, no, no, no, no roller blades.
It was just a skate.
Later.
Roller blades came later after that.
And then they went out of Vogue
Because people were snapping their ankles
Yeah, not really safe
No
Skates are okay
The blades are not so much
Lades are easier to skate in
I know but they can also snap ankles
A lot faster too Ross
And Jonathan come on now
You can't get a lot of ankle exercise in these days
Earth went and fire
God bless them
By the way they still tour
But none of them are the original members
So it's so
Billet's gone
I don't think he's been with that group for a while
He's his cousin Daryl's
How can you tour if there's none of the original
Correct. That's how they just do it.
That's how they do it.
Then you're just a cover band.
It's like Leonard Skinner's tours and there's not in a single original member of them left.
I don't know.
That's fake?
Everybody's in their 80s.
It's like my wife gave me many years ago, bought me tickets to see the Little River Band.
They had some hits.
They're not a single original member Little River Band out there.
What?
I know.
Even some crappy band like the Little River Band?
Hey, shut your mother.
Doesn't have the original band?
Oh, is it?
We're their top three hits.
Cool change.
Never heard of it.
Let me...
I'll...
See, you can't even name three Little Riverbats.
They can't be that good.
Reminiscing?
Okay, I've no reminiscing.
Yeah.
Back off.
I'm not backing off the Little River Band.
And Sticks, by the way.
We go see Sticks every year because my son loves Sticks.
He loves Sticks?
Yeah.
He's the one?
He's a Stix-a-Holic.
The lead guy from Sticks isn't even there.
Who's the lead guy from Stix?
I think it's the name is Joe Ambrombie.
I don't know.
Come Sail away guy.
he sailed away
they don't even sing lady
they haven't sang lady in 30 years
why not I mean it's such a good goat
stinks something it's kind of hard to sing
all right tough notes
shout out September 20
we're gonna play that song at least one more time
it's such a good song
I always play it every hour
and it's perfect for the day right
yeah oh I'm sorry well let's talk about the cougars
and the Astros and the Texans
come on Aggie
come out of the Aggies
whoo whoo
whoop
whoops
oops
poor Aggies
They've been through a lot.
He's getting their hopes up.
By the way, can we talk about Kyle Field?
Can we just back off on some of the Kyle Field?
It's the toughest place to play.
Kyle Field, man, the atmosphere, Aggie Field.
People go in there and kick their ass all the time.
What's a harder place to win in?
Houston Stadium or Kyle Field.
Neither?
Mm-hmm.
What an intimidating environment here tonight, Kyle Field.
Anyways, final score.
Aggies lose 31 to 21.
Yikes.
No, we're not renegey police tweet yet.
Although we could.
Probably more entertaining than the game itself was.
Think about how bad they'd lose if they didn't have that environment.
That's good for them.
Yeah.
Update on my middle son Peyton, who takes every loss.
Oh, gosh.
Is he okay?
Okay would be the term.
He needs to just disconnect.
Yes, he's trying.
Good.
His older brother, who was with him on the trip, said that 1 to 10.
Normally when Peyton the Aggies lose, he's at a minus 7 in terms of his mentality.
He was actually at a one or two this past week.
So it's a little small improvements.
Good.
I mean, I've been there.
I mean, I was irrationally too into Texas basketball for 20 years.
Yeah, I got to give it up.
Jonathan, one time Ross and I went to Vegas and he broke a table over Texas football loss, the hotel, $700.
I literally...
U.T. basketball?
It was football.
We've been through this.
It was a game against, first of all, they're in the Big 12s.
That's how long ago this was.
I just did this.
I slammed my hand down in frustration, and then, and now the story has...
And the table split in half.
Now the story has grown.
It wasn't even table number one.
It was like a nightstand.
You put a nightstand.
You know, that's a lot more strength.
I didn't break anything.
This match is blowing the story up.
What else?
From like 20 years ago.
What else having the lobby down there, by the way?
What lobby?
At that hotel we were at.
Nothing.
I thought you got propositioned.
Why are you to...
Propositions?
Yeah, I don't know what you're talking about.
Okay.
He doesn't know what he's talking about.
That's fine.
Maybe I'm making that up.
Okay, fine.
I'll tell the story.
It's also not that interesting.
I didn't really get proposition.
The woman just asked...
So I was sitting there playing video poker
drinking some drinks because that's what you do in Vegas.
And then, yeah, this...
How do I describe her?
Plump stripper.
Okay.
Was like, let me teach you.
you how to play. I'm like, I'm good.
And then she was like, oh, hold this and then play with that.
And then I was like, I'm good. And then she was like,
can you give me $20?
I was like, what? She's like, for helping you, for teaching you.
I was like, you didn't teach me anything.
No. She's like, oh, do you want to come next door?
I'm like, no, I don't. I'm not trying to get robbed in the middle of the alleyway
with you in Vegas. And you want to keep one of your kidneys.
Yeah.
That's a great story.
She was, I want to say a mean word, but I don't want to say it.
Go ahead.
She's pretty busted.
Go explain.
I'm leaving it at that.
But I have to go to Urban Dictionary to figure what that means.
Just like the Astros busted.
Oh.
All right.
Oh, that didn't hit.
Go ahead and finish that off there.
What?
There it is.
All right, so I'm going to throw this out right now.
Go ahead.
What are you more depressed about?
The Texans or the Astros?
It's got to be the Astros.
It's not even close.
Mm-hmm.
About to find out.
There's 70.
and 79.
Camp Smith is on 0 for 26.
They actually got good starts
from their starting pitching all weekend.
And A.J. Blueball and Brian King
are blowing up.
Let me ask you.
They went 0 for 3 with their bases loaded.
Let me give you this scenario.
If you've been in this malaise all year for the Astros
because you've kind of checked out,
you and I've talked about this before,
you were kind of hoping the Texans could come rescue you.
Matt Thomas is telling me they're going to run on American League.
Go win the AL.
What I say?
Yeah, you told me they're winning.
the AOS by two games? How is that looking?
Two. You'll find out Monday. You'll find out on the video after the show we do today.
Oh, yeah.
Anything can happen. Let's go and win the pennant.
They can't even get in the playoffs.
How far are they from the two seed?
Yeah, let's go do two seed talk.
Let me go figure this out.
Go ahead.
Are they in the wild card chase?
No.
You don't know that.
There are three games out of the wild car.
We're six left.
Maybe they're not in the wild card chase.
I know they're not.
Thank you, by the way, to Toronto for beating the Rangers yesterday.
Just a game back.
Gosh.
Game back, French.
You know what? Shut your bum ass up.
This team sucks right now.
They can get better.
Okay.
We've been saying this all year, right?
Oh, win some games.
They can turn the corner.
Well, let's go.
You got sorry-ass Seattle for two games and sorry-ass Sacramento.
And I don't want to hear about, oh, those A's.
They've lost six in a row.
They're 29 and 46 in Sacramento.
The A's.
Go kick their ass and go win.
Yes.
He just did it.
You just did it.
You fired us up.
Okay.
I was Debbie Danner.
Now I feel great.
The Astros are going to win the West.
Oh, God.
I hope you're right.
You know what?
I'm going to get something to eat right now.
Bye.
We have a lot going on between now and 10 o'clock this morning.
It is Matt and Ross in the morning.
Steve Spark's going to join us from Seattle.
I actually texted Steve.
I said, you want to go a little bit later?
It's, you know, two hours earlier in Seattle.
They left after the game yesterday.
You know, I'm planning golf today.
So let's go to it normal time.
Yeah, it's off day.
We've got to figure out what Steve Sparks is like at 6 a.m. Pacific time.
What about to find out?
Maybe he can give the boys a speech.
What would he say?
I don't know. Maybe he'd rip a phone book in half.
No, he would do actually, frankly, the opposite of that.
He tried the phone book and half thing and didn't work out.
Yeah, that's true.
To tell the truth this morning at 8.30, we will read text saying and police tweets at 8.50 this morning.
Oh, great.
Missing you at 9.
30 and believe it or not today at 950.
A shout out to our friend Alex Bringman.
Friendly fire, needless to say, foul ball.
The guy was in front of him.
I don't know who he hits in front of him with the Chicago Cubs.
Hit him in the eye.
The picture of him.
Him going down first of all is terrible.
And then the photo of him having a massive, massive bruise over one of his eyes.
And he is hoping to avoid any sort of long-term surgery that would preclude him
from being a part of the playoffs because they're going.
the playoffs.
And he's been,
I mean,
he's been hot hitting
for like a month plus.
Yep.
So shout out to him.
He's always been a friend
of ours and just a good
human being and good dude,
loves his Astros and
having a much better second half of the year.
And by the way,
he'll be part of,
I guess the final missing you?
This is the last one?
I thought you were doing Texans once.
Oh, we are.
But I'm talking about the last baseball.
Baseball one.
Centric one, yeah.
Why not?
We can do it in the playoffs.
Breggman's getting homers
in the playoffs.
Maricio Dubon.
Maricio Dubon.
Maracio Dubon's going to the playoffs.
By the way, we'll be...
Kyle Tucker's going to the playoffs.
We're welcoming a new football member.
Are the Astros going to the playoffs?
We'll be welcoming a new member of the Missing You Football family coming up today on the show.
Tommy Townsend?
No.
What is he doing, by the way?
He's punting for the Titans.
And Kai Kroger is going to be looking for work?
If you're Kai Kroger, first of all, that sounds like a broskey name from a fraternity, right, at SMU.
Kai Kroger?
Yeah.
Sounds kind of made up.
Yeah, do you think Mrs. Croker, when she delivered the baby, said, you know, Kai is a perfect name.
I guess so, why not?
I mean, clearly, she were the husband.
How does he, how does he handle that bad snap?
Kai?
Does he, again, I think you practice these types of things.
Is it sure for Kyle?
No, it's K-A-I.
It's like Cobra Kai.
Exactly.
Huh.
He wasn't punting particularly well yesterday, and then that drop snap, which is going to happen.
But life happens like that.
It was a rough day for the old special teams.
It was a rough day for everyone.
Mm-hmm.
What a rough day for Daniel Hunter and Will Anderson.
Yeah, they did their jobs.
Defense was good.
Offense was good until it wasn't.
It was good until it was fourth down.
Good enough.
All right, look, the only caller we have online is Terry in Ohio.
He typically brings a show down.
Hey.
I said typically.
Maybe we'll talk about the big Browns win.
I don't think so.
I don't think.
So we need.
Maybe we want to talk about Deshawn Watson.
We need Houston people.
I know y'all are mad, right?
Y'all are mad your squads O and two.
I know you're mad the Astros got swept out of town by the Atlanta Braves.
It's two straight weekend sweeps against two elite teams.
I know you're mad that Brian King throws pus and that A.J. Blue Ball is, he's running out of gas.
By way, even Hunter Brown yesterday, Ross, striking out 10.
I looked at the pitch count.
He was at 94 in the fifth inning.
What the hell?
Yeah, 98 pitches and five innings.
He was just, I mean, working around base runners and then striking everyone out.
That's a good way to run up the strike count, or it's the pitch count, I should say.
You simply cannot say, hey, Hunter, we need you do you a favor.
We need you to get faster outs.
It's, I don't always call it a problem because, I mean, still, you go five innings and you don't give up a run.
That's good.
That's a quality start light.
but we need quality starts.
Yeah, I mean, but everything we've talked about this year in this last month.
By the way, the asteros have lost, well, drop 10 or 14, I think is what it is?
Is that 10 of 14?
I know it's 7 of last 9.
Something crazy.
I know it's for sure 7 of last 9.
It's not going along in games.
It's 4 through 9 in the batting order not doing their job.
I mean, everything, this is a remarkably consistent baseball team.
I mean, Yiner Diaz has been hitting hot this month.
O'O'O'Ary who gives up the slam on Saturday night.
That wasn't funny either.
Esoc Paredes was 0 for 3 yesterday with a walk, but he's had a good September.
Yeah. Yeah.
But, I mean, it's a Walker, Smith, Allen, and Bryce Matthews fresh back up.
I mean, he got a hit, but it's just a wasteland at the end of the lineup.
And Cam Smith continues to occasionally give us hope, and then he just does this.
0 for 26?
I know that Christian Walker had two hits on Saturday.
How did he do yesterday?
I believe it was O for.
Let me go look.
Yeah, O for three with a walk.
Man.
OPS is at 701.
When he was at like 900 to start the season.
Two months of it, by the way.
Yeah.
His numbers after June 1st,
it's like he's a 38-year-old guy
just holding on to get an occasional AB.
Yeah, I mean, you want to go on 903 for April, then 743.
Oh, God, 674, 694, I'm just going month by month.
595 in August, 417 in September.
Is that real?
Oh, my God.
I don't want to see that on a graph.
So this has been basically, yeah.
This is basically what, help me out here, eight years of utility at first base?
No, Yulee was good
Okay, so
Yuley won a batting title
So five years of futility
The Abrae U and Walker
Right?
I mean, you
As an organization
You as a baseball franchise
You cannot win
If you don't have slug at first base
I mean, I'm going to tell you
I liked both of the signings when they happened
I liked
Jeff Bagwell agrees
I like the Abraeu signing for two years
Not three
Because nobody else giving them three
Right
Christian Walker, I frankly liked, although when the deal was done, the very first thing we did was we went to Goldsea the last couple months where we were in Arizona and numbers that started to just slip a little bit.
It's the catching lightning and a bottle philosophy at first base in the last two acquisitions and they have been complete disasters.
Which is just funny because the philosophy of I don't want to pay players in decline. That's why I won't sign these long term deals.
but then you've been paying first basement
and decline in the last five years or whatever.
I mean, if you really want to think about it, look, you can,
Cam Smith, it is what it is, you had to make a trade,
you had to grab the best it was got.
Pardis has done his job, but if you don't have slug at first base,
you're toast.
You cannot have an OPS at that position in the last five years.
Give it, give it take a while, 600 maybe, in five years at that position.
Probably if the average over that, it's probably a slightly.
I mean, at least Walker's got.
25 bombs. That's it.
But if Lamont Wade is getting meaningful at bats at first base in September
in a penitiation, you're in trouble.
Lamont Wade Jr.
All right. So, if you are on to, call the show.
Are you more depressed about the Astros?
Are you more depressed about the Texans? Let us know at 713-213-212-5-790.
7-1-2-5-790.
It's Matt and Ross in the morning.
733.
Matt and Ross in the morning.
Sparks is going to join us from Seattle in 25 minutes.
To tell the truth this morning,
I'll have three truths boys and one lie.
Three truce, one lie.
Okay.
Okay.
Wonderful.
And this is the second straight Monday we've come together as a family here
and celebrated nothing.
Are you much of a...
Long...
How was a file in that game?
30 to 6.
How much did you watch?
All of it?
I watched maybe six minutes of it.
I was sleeping.
Yeah, by the way, UTSA is like, yeah, we'll take your check and we're done playing you.
We don't play anymore.
They want to win.
I watch a good amount of LSU Ole Miss.
By the way, I watch a good amount of Alabama, Florida State.
Trinidad Chamblis, is that his name?
Yes.
That's a damn good quarterback.
He was good?
He's going to be a very good NFL player.
The Alabama quarterback, what's his name, Keelan.
Keelan Russell.
He had a really good game.
I couldn't.
They had a long-ass reinde-lay on that.
Multiple raindollack.
Yeah.
Yeah.
A lot of lightning delays all weekend long.
In the NFL,
the hell's going on.
The hell's going on.
In Cleveland, Tampa Bay last night.
By the way,
Deshaun Watson
bounced back game for the Browns.
Yes, he did.
And,
uh,
Jane Daniels,
um,
ooh,
the elbow,
not looking good.
Fractured elbow,
or not a dislocated elbow,
which he's had before.
Yeah.
Did you see it?
I saw it in real time.
No.
I just saw him being carted off.
The elbow went in a direction
and it's not supposed to go in.
again? Second time.
Now, if that happens once, is it more likely
to happen again? That I don't know.
He was trying to plan himself.
Don't look at it. It's not great.
Okay, I won't. I'll take your word
for it. And then Chicago has
in need of a new quarterback, at least for the first...
Oh, okay. I thought you're going to say Chicago's in need of a new
basest. No,
that's... Well, Peter Staterer is long retired, but yes, no.
Caleb Williams with a
hamstring injury. It looked like knee.
They said hammy. Yeah.
But even hammies are six to eight weeks, probably right?
Depends on how bad it is.
What grade we're talking about.
And he's a guy who uses his legs a lot.
If you're Chicago, my gosh.
You put up 59 points.
You're like riding high.
Right.
And then would they score six this week?
Or three?
I don't even know what it was.
Yeah, it was something very nut.
Well, the game was terrible weather in Chicago, by the way.
Yeah.
Can you imagine?
Oh, yeah, three.
Sorry.
Could you imagine only scoring six points in an NFL game?
No.
touchdowns, that would be horrible, right?
That would be not fun to watch.
You're talking about Atlanta Falcon fan, aren't you?
Oh, maybe I'm talking about Houston, Texas fans.
34 to 3 in Atlanta yesterday.
That was bad. Bryce Young,
three touchdowns.
I loaded up on Atlanta players for my draft.
Oh, how's you going this week?
I got my ass kicked.
But I used the wrong quarterback.
It is what it is.
Life happens.
It's going to be fine.
Let's go to the phones.
7-13-212, 5-7-9.
Robert with his son, Madden Ross in the morning.
Robert, good morning to you.
Good morning, Madden Ross, but I wouldn't exactly call it a good weekend.
So let's start off with the Astros.
So Astros have been mid to quote the Gen Z generation since 2020.
Like their trades have been mad.
Their play has been average.
Data Brown, I'm sorry.
He's on the hot seat.
Like, I haven't really had that many stellar pieces.
and our pitching, especially our bullpen, and our bats, are exhausted and or cold.
So at this point, spare us the cardiac events of getting into the playoffs
and then getting either swept or not making it out of the wild card round or the first round.
And I don't want to say rebuild because I know people don't like that word,
but we might have to start considering trading and,
getting some more pieces either called up or shuffling deck or what have you.
As far as the Texans, which I think is the greatest disappointment thus far in the Domeko-Ryan's era.
So I think the vast majority of Houston Texan fans were extremely optimistic going into this season.
And then, of course, we had the drop of the City Connect jerseys, just the nice,
little finger up to the Adams family.
Like, hey, look, we can, we can, we can do Houston Blue and really, really call back on just some
sick looking jerseys and everything like that.
The defense was supposed to be Super Bowl caliber.
And I think, to be honest with you yesterday, it was the defense that was the biggest
letdown.
Not really the offense.
Huh?
Are you watching the same game I'm watching?
They scored six points.
I mean, CJ's footwork actually was pretty decent yesterday.
His body language was a lot better yesterday.
But the defense was a horrible letdown alongside with the offense.
I'm not giving an excuse and saying that the offense wasn't the reason why we lost.
We clearly lost because we couldn't match the points that the Bengals were putting up.
But the defense, the optimism of going into this season with the Super Bowl caliber defense and just seeing just, whether it's bad luck, these fantastic catches, these near interceptions that just fall out of our hands or bounce off of our fingers.
Well, unfortunately, football is a game of inches.
And it either bounces your way or you don't.
But, yeah, no.
It's definitely bitter, bitter taste for both the Astros, Astros and the Texans.
But, hey, college ball was fun.
The LSU game is great.
And all the other slates of games were fun.
So I guess we'll see.
But thanks, guys.
Really enjoy the program.
Thank you.
Hang up and listen.
Appreciate it, Robert.
Dana Brown's seat is not hot.
There's no more seat.
He's done.
Yeah, he's out of his seat.
I think he's not about Joe Spott.
Okay.
Joe spot a seat is
He's scorching
He's scorching
He's scorching
I like Joe
Yeah I mean we like Joe but he's out
I mean he's out
There's no way
I got I mean look
People are crushing him
For going to Brian King
And like some people wanted Hunter Brown to go
Keep continue to go out there
He's at 98 pitches
I mean he just wasn't going to go out there
Brian King had been good
You got to get some out somehow
I mean what
Eniel de Los Santos got sent back down
No he's on the injured list
I'm sorry yeah
Injured list or whatever
I don't you know
who you're going to go in those type of
innings anyways.
I knew that I got to get out.
How about a starter go six innings?
It's not.
Nobody went six innings all weekend.
It was your three guys.
You went with Lambert, Wesniewski,
and Hunter Brown.
That's supposed to be,
that's your three,
that's your playoff rotation.
None of them went to six innings.
And we've been talking about this since June 1st.
I feel like we could be playing on a record,
a recording for the last two months.
Wednesday back in the,
the lineup going to step up. When's the rotation
going to be more consistent? A bullpen
is gas. You got to give
Okrit some time off. Well, unfortunately you did because
of the hamstring. It gets some clutch hitting.
Like, we've just, it's the same
old song. They're just a pile
of mid.
Anthony on 790. Good morning, Anthony.
Hey, good morning, guys.
Hey, I wanted to call and
cash in on my gut feeling. I
picked Ole Miss to
beat LSU.
It was kind of a full
circle moment there for Lane Kiffin.
Last year,
you know,
Lane Kiffin ended up benching his
starting quarterback and
starting and replacing him with
Trinidad Chamblis.
And, you know, here we are
a year later.
That's a bit to just build on what you said,
Matt, that is a, that man is an
outstanding football
player. I mean,
I don't know if you guys watched that whole game,
but when he rolled out to the left and
had three LSU defenders
pretty much in his face and he kind of
just flicked it out to his safety valve about eight yards away.
You could just kind of see the energy sucked out of Lane Kiffin.
But he's an outstanding football player, man.
And he, you know, we talk a lot about like Dante Moore and guys like that.
But I don't know if it's because of who he plays for that he doesn't get the recognition that he deserves.
But he's probably going to win the husband.
He's the favorite right now.
And he is going to be an outstanding NFL talent.
Yeah, thank you for the phone call.
I'll just say this, and I don't spend a lot of time watching college football because this is my cougars.
But I watched that LSU game in Ole Miss almost from the after I was working Astros.
He's a smart guy.
He's got good touch.
He makes great decisions.
Help me out here.
And any other superlives I'm missing out on this guy, I think he's fantastic.
I just do it.
He is the Heisman favorite right now.
Yeah.
I just think he, you know what?
Because dual threat usually.
means, well, there's something deficient. Either he's
not a great, very accurate thrower, or he can't
throw the deep ball, or he can't throw an intermediate
pass, or his decision-making.
He looks the part, dude. He just does.
Yeah. And I know that a lot of people
are running into the Arch Manning should be the first
quarterback taken. Who would you
take first?
I'm not going to say I'm been watching a bunch
of Chambliss tape. Nor have I,
but I mean, I'm looking at one game.
I'll just tell you my feelings on Arch.
I mean, I like Arch. I think he's good, but I think
He has some deficiencies for sure with the decision making,
where he tries to drive the ball down the field far too much,
and then he often doesn't have a good touch on his passes
in the short to intermediate routes.
And see, all the things you just said are things that I think
turned to Chambliss has going for him.
And all those things that I just said are problems I've had with Arch
since his freshman year.
They just haven't.
He's developed, he's gotten better.
He's improved some things, but...
I was impressed.
I love the...
You know, yesterday on Saturday for me,
watching LSU O'Miss and watching Friday's
a Houston Texas Tech game in Lubbock.
By the way, game presentation for Texas Tech
a freaking plus.
Yeah?
Ross, they had 60,000 people at Jones or whatever they call it stadium,
or Galaxy Stadium.
You know, in Texas Tech, there aren't a lot of people
that live, like, alums, have to drive to Lubbock.
A long way, probably.
Well, yeah, I mean, name of...
middle of nowhere. Yeah, I mean, Abilene is the next coast
city. Who the hell lives in Abilene? Or Amarillo? But my point is that
if you're an alum that goes to Texas Tech games
and you live in Dallas-Fort Worth, you live in, say, Austin, you have to, it's a
five-hour drive or a four-hour drive. Friday nights,
even Joe McGuire, the coach of Red Raiders, was like, I'm just a little nervous
about our crowd. I could not find an empty seat. They jammed the people in
and they get, first of all, they got a victory over a very good Cougar team.
Number two, it was loud from the jump. There wasn't an
empty seat and their game presentation was awesome.
If you want to go be a part of a college football experience,
I'm saying it. Lubbock, Texas is where it's at.
And it looked like that way in Oxford too.
Oxford apparently was very, very loud, as you would imagine.
Yeah.
Especially the way the game was going.
By the way, if you watch Game Day, you heard F.
Laine, F. Kiffin about 500 times.
And by the way, another barefoot kicker knocking one back for a
Millie during the game day thing.
I love that part of the show.
I don't really watch Game Day.
All right.
745, Terry in Ohio's been waiting for 52 minutes.
Will we get to him?
Will he be there when we get to him?
Or are we going to talk to other people in Houston, Texas,
who are disgusted by the Texans performance and the Astros performance.
745 at Sports Talk 790.
Sadly, we've been here before, but, you know, I think, you know,
we just have to hold each other accountable.
You know, we have to get better.
You know, there's a lot of things that, you know,
that we need to be doing better if we're going to win.
So I think we'll have some conversations this week about that
and, you know, get some things fixed.
All right.
One of the things would be throw the ball less than 55 times.
That's what C.J's did yesterday.
353 yards.
He was sacked four times, by the way.
Yes.
16.7% success rate running the football.
That's not.
Houston, Texans football, that can't happen.
Leading ground gainer for the Texans yesterday, C.J. Stroud, three carries 29 yards.
That is an average of nine yards of carry. Nice.
Jalen Knoll, one carry for 13 yards in the end-around.
David Montgomery, six carries for 10 yards.
That's 1.5-2 per carry.
Woody Marks, even easier to figure out.
Eight carries, eight yards.
your running backs yesterday gave you 18 yards on 14 carries.
So is that what he's talking about going in the working on fixing things this week?
I guess.
Dalton Schultz got 14 targets.
Yeah, it was, some of it was, I mean, the tight ends were open.
Some of it was like check down stuff, especially towards the end of the game.
It was, to me, the story was just you just got no push the interior of the line.
the guys had in talking about the running backs had no room to work with dexter lawrence was just wreaking
havoc on you all game long and they just had no answer for him and yeah as you said they've combined
14 carries montgomery marks for 18 yards zavier hutchson was targeted nine times at three
catches something called jared wayne had seven targets with two catches jared wayne preseason
superstar says who oh the cousin disgustment and jerry wain is something special y'all got to
Watch him out. Look at my website.
He had a third down drop.
I want to say there was at least another.
He might even have two third down drops.
I can't remember.
The receiving room was garbage to begin the season.
It just was.
Well, you're supposed to have,
Nico Collins is gone.
That's not garbage.
No.
I wouldn't say that.
You have Nico Collins,
who's a top 10 wide receiver in football.
Jaden Higgins was supposed to make the next leap.
And then it was like Dalton Schultz is a pass catcher.
He's not a receiver.
Right.
I'm talking about the wide receiving room.
Higgins and.
And obviously Higgins and Nico make it a good often.
You got neither of.
So when you take one, two, away from an average room to begin with, it's garbage.
Yeah, most times when people go down to their three, four, five guys, yeah, they're not going to be good.
Most people don't have five great wide receivers on their roster.
Cash on Booty.
Three catches, 37 yards.
Yeah, you made a trade for Kayshan Booty.
You tried to shore it for that.
At least you went from one catch to three.
That's something.
You're trying to integrate him.
him into the offense.
Then it was the Dalton
Schultz show.
But I mean, the Hutchinson's, the
Wains have been around. No, I'm
encouraged about again, he only had one catch.
It was a good one, but he had one.
Yeah, he can do explosive plays. They ran it
and around for him. I would like to see, you know, some
screens or something like that to get him a little bit in space.
That's what Cedias talking about. My guess
would be maybe a more concerted effort to get
Noel a bigger part of the offense.
You were just getting wrecked on the interior and you just had no
and you don't have running backs
who are like speedy who can, you
You even want to run outside.
Before we get to Steve Sparks, Terry, what do you got this morning?
Hey, what the hell is going on with the Texans?
They're losing baseball, football games, I should say.
Anyway, how about the Astros?
They suck.
Oh.
And I think they win two of the last six games.
Ooh.
All right, Terry.
And I called, they get swept by the Braves.
Oh, you did?
He did.
did. Okay, well, there you go. Terry, congratulations. You won a big award.
I mail it to me.
Okay. On that note, Steve Sparks
joins us next. See, I made him wait 55 minutes, and it felt like
that maybe I should have waited a little longer. No, that was pretty good.
We appreciate him. We really got to get to a break.
This is Matt and Ross in the morning.
8.02 on 7.90, Matt and Ross in the morning. We go
to Seattle, Washington.
where our friend Steve Sparks is going to broadcast not hopeful.
That's how do I say this.
Hopefully not the last six games of the regular season,
maybe a playoff run.
Sparky, it's, oh man, really, really rough weekend for the local nine.
And sometimes you want to get on a plane and get to the next city
and just have a couple of pops and just think about something else.
But when it's a four and a half hour flight,
it's hard to not think about what just happened at Dyken over the weekend.
Yeah, you're right.
I mean, but I think they got it out of their system.
You know, we've all heard that Yordon, who I don't believe has ever done this, you know,
set the guys down and voiced his concerns and opinions.
And I think that's an awesome thing that happens.
So I'm not sure, you know, what it's going to mean for the guys,
and it's going to help guys swing the bats.
Who knows, man.
It's been a while that the offense has been this cold now.
But there's precedent.
and it was two or three years ago, three years ago, 2003.
They went on their last road trip of six games in second place,
and they went five and one and won the division.
So there's a lot of guys on the team that remember that,
and hopefully they can replicate something like that.
And just to score some runs, I mean, it's going to mean a lot,
and they've got to do it early and start to build some momentum early in this series.
We'll get tomorrow on the offense for a second,
but I do want to go to the starting pitching
and look, the one, two, three combination,
whatever it may be was out this weekend.
And this has been a season long issue, Steve,
not going deep in games.
Have we spent too much time,
whether it's in the sport or observers like we are?
When that pitch count gets a 90,
do we start to flip out?
I mean, are we going to see a night where you go to Hunter
or you go to Lambert and say,
man, if you give me one more inning,
I know the pitch count can get to 105, 106, 107,
or are we still because so many arms are so fragile in the number of innings that Lambert is thrown
and that Hunter's coming back from his injury earlier in the year that when that 90 number hits,
we start to wig out a little bit and get that bullpen warmed up immediately.
No, I'm with you.
I'd love to see these guys get pushed a little bit more.
And I know a couple of the guys are getting into the situations where they're pushing their innings limit.
But, I mean, they're 30 years old now.
Lambert's been in Japan, and he's built it up.
and I would love to see guys pitchkeeper into the ball games.
And how do you do that?
There's just so many foul balls, Matt, that I just trying to think,
why don't they get guys out within three pitches very often anymore?
You know, is there stuff too good,
or are they pitch into the corners too much early on,
that they can't get a two-seamer down the middle of the plate,
get somebody to roll one over to the shortstop,
and you've got one pitch, one out, you know,
you just never see that anymore.
So these pitchcats get big, you know, and then all of a sudden you get a guy on the other team that has a 10 pitch of bat,
then you're looking at a guy that's not going to go six innings again.
And I think that's problematic to think that your bullpen is going to stay solid all season long because you're relying on four different relievers.
And, you know, odds say that one of them is not going to have it that day.
You know, and that's typically what happens is you can't rely on four every night.
that hopefully just rely on two on some of these nights where a guy goes seven and then you lose
two relievers, but that just doesn't happen hardly at all anymore.
And I know these guys are a little bit, you know, aware of that, even the starting pitchers,
and they're thinking of ways that they can get deeper into these ballgames.
And I'm not sure anybody has the right answer.
I say, and I've talked about this a lot with you a couple times, early in the counts,
I would love to see the catcher just right down the middle and just let their show.
stuff play, you know, and you're trying to get ahead of the camp, but maybe sometimes you get a lot
earlier routes.
Can you just take us through also, you know, we've, the starting pitchers obviously haven't
been going deep in games.
That means there's been a lot of a bullpen usage.
What is it like for these pitchers down the stretch?
I mean, trying to give it all they have, but it just seems like, you know, A.J. Blueball,
of course, giving some of the weekend and some of the other guys just kind of kind of running
out of gas.
Yeah, I mean, what you're thinking about every day, Ross, is it, you know, your arms heavy, your arms hurting.
You go out to the outfield before batting practice just to test it so you can tell the coaches, yeah, I can pitch tonight, you know, but you barely throw.
And you're thinking about it until that phone rings and they point at you.
Then your adrenaline gets you through it, you know, and you get up and you say, all right, this is better than I thought, just because of adrenaline.
And it gets you through that game.
But you do that night after night the last six weeks of the season,
and it builds, and it builds, and it builds,
and it's really hard, you know,
especially when you've gone through stretches where you've pitched,
you know, probably five out of eight or nine days,
and you've gotten up another one or two times in the middle of that, too.
So all that adds up, you know,
and De Astra certainly have missed Oakhra the last couple of weeks.
It's starting to rear its ugly head.
He was having such a great season.
But these guys right now, I'm telling you,
or going to the outfield before batting practice every day,
lobbying a few just to let them know,
thumbs up or thumbs down, whether or not they can go that night.
Steve Sparks with us here on Sports Talk 790.
Down the stretch we come, Team 77 and 79.
How do you assess the job Joe Spot has done this year?
I think he's done a good job.
I think the players play hard for him.
I think they're respecting, and I think the coaching staff is put in countless hours.
And, you know, we'll talk about certainly.
It's easy to talk about their shortcomings, you know,
and they're loud and apparent every time that the team goes to a stretch like they did against the Braves.
But it's not like guys aren't making adjustments, putting their heads together,
trying to figure out the best combinations to face, you know,
that certain nights pitcher and things like that.
And I think that's all you can ask for is you run the bullpen well.
You get guys to play hard and you maximize whatever you have on your roster to go out there and compete every day.
So six games left in the season, and they're just one game out.
And I think he's done a nice job keeping everybody together.
So let's get back to the Yordan conversation.
And I brought that the comparison, Sparky, too, when Andre Johnson used to speak for the Texans,
You don't speak a lot, but when you do, you do listen.
They're all wonderful human beings.
You work with them.
I've talked to them.
They're good guys.
But we've got some gentlemen that have had prolonged slumps that have been remarkably consistent at being inconsistent.
My question is, forgetting about the a a asteros and life in general, and you've been in clubhouses all your life as a player and as a broadcaster.
He can yell all he wants to.
He can throw a gatorie bottle if he needs to.
But if you've got guys that are slumping that have guys that have been on.
three months of three home runs in five days and then going one for 27.
I don't know if a late September meeting is going to mean a whole lot.
So let me ask you this as being a part of this.
What do some of those guys that have been underachievers?
Think about a guy like Jordan Alvarez with a week left to go in the season saying the things that he said yesterday.
I can't imagine anybody in that locker room having more respect than him.
You know, everybody reveres his talent.
and his demeanor so much.
And the fact that he doesn't say things very often, I think, means a lot.
You know, just like Andre Josson or Johnson, when they do say something, I mean, it holds a lot of weight.
Here's the thing, though, the last week of the season, are you really going to see any adjustments?
Is something going to click for a couple of these guys offensively where all of a sudden they've got a little thing that they can key on to get them.
going again. I don't know. I don't know if guys are afraid to make adjustments right now,
move in the box, or just try something different. I don't know if it's too late in the season
for guys to try that. I think I would. I think like if things keep going in the same direction,
I try something. You know, Hunter's changed his breaking ball shape. His last couple of starts,
he struck out 20 in his last 10 minutes. It's costing some pitches, maybe, because there's
so much swing and miss that he's not getting six or seven innings like he'd like to,
but swing and miss is very evident, and he's made an adjustment late in the season.
That's the thing for me is I've always wondered, like, if a guy's hitting, why he doesn't just
move in the box a little bit more.
I remember guys used to do that so often.
Get on top of the plate.
Just give yourself a little different perspective, and maybe you'll find your barrel more
consistently.
I don't know if that's, I don't know how hard that,
is for a position player.
But at some point, in my mind, I would say, what do I have to lose?
Last question for us let you run.
The Astros have had their troubles against Mariners this year.
It's not been fun going to West Sacramento in the last couple of years.
So give the audience a little optimism about two locales that have not treated the Astros
very politely the last couple of years, overcoming this one game deficit.
And then when you and I visit next Monday, we're talking about a playoff roster and
decisions to be made come wildcard time.
Yeah, I don't know about
predictions about whether or not they can turn
things around. You know, I think it's going to start
with Pena, you know,
and him continued
to have consistent with bats to get things
going for the Astros, and I know a lot of
times, you know, the Astros
having scored a ton of the first inning,
but when he gets it going for the Astros, it just
seems like there's a different energy for the team
and things start to snowball
a little bit. We're also
to have two of his five hits, his last
couple of games. I understand close to
340, I think, in the month of
September, it's starting to see it, get a little
bit more lengthy. You take to the
first inning, but I know it's not going to be
easy if Logan Gilbert is one of the
American least best.
I think if the Astros can
really jumpstart
this last road trip with a good first inning
tomorrow night, I think that will go a long way.
If it doesn't just find
maybe these, they start as
Christian hobbyers, but better, I don't know,
whatever you have to do.
I think when you play teams that are out of contention,
I think that's pretty much high contention now.
I think he'll give up at some point kind of early.
It's kind of human nature at this time of year.
You start thinking about your off season,
and I think they can put them away early
if they get off to a decent start.
Well, David, that, friend.
Really enjoy the experience.
As always, have a good time on your off date today,
and we'll talk again one way or the other next Monday, my friend.
And good luck this week with you and Robert.
Looking forward to the broadcast, as always.
you got it thanks for having me you got it
Steve sparks with us every Monday 8 o'clock hopefully for the foreseeable Mondays
at least one more appearance
you sad and gloomy next Monday
let me take something if we're going through this again
next Monday with back-to-back double losses for the local teams
with a lockout coming in baseball
ugh
disaster
anything else I can tell you that could depress a hell out of you right now at 813
I'm good right now all right now all right I just wanted to bring that out

Ross and Jonathan bottom of the hour
We have to tell the truth
Did Jonathan make up any ground last week?
He did both.
We both won.
Yeah.
I made ground for myself.
Yeah.
You feel better about yourself.
You know what?
You're the Cam Smither to tell the truth.
I got some more pep in my step, you know?
It's like, yeah, the Astros won, but the Rangers one too.
Cam Smith, Jonathan's, Alan.
the cop on the to tell the truth.
He's not the Cam Smith to tell the truth.
That's rude.
All right. John and Ray will get to you, 713, 212-579.
To tell the truth is at the bottom of the hour.
We got missing you coming up at 930.
What is Ross today's edition of Believe or not at 950?
Oh.
All right.
That's what we call a preview right there, friends.
713.
Atlanta Braves.
Brooms?
They won the Merit National League East.
All things about brooms?
Did you see who was in the locker room getting interviews after the game?
Dan Matthews?
Our former producer Connor McGovern.
Oh, yeah.
He was doing, as they call it, stringing.
Yeah.
Pop and champagne or cold beer.
He reached out.
He wanted me to come hang out, but I didn't go.
Were you at the game yesterday?
I was as a fan.
Oh, you said I'm out.
Okay.
I'll get home.
I get it.
That's fair.
7-13.
I went home and watch the Texans game and wanted to claw my eyes out.
then thanks to Randy McAvoy for having me on Sports Sunday
NBC Local 2
How to go?
I don't know, I slept, but it seemed like it went well when we interviewed
Were you dressed appropriately?
What do you mean?
Made you look good?
Yeah, I was wearing a clown outfit for the Astros.
Charlie, then write that down.
He needs to apologize the Astros.
You know what, I'm a little grumpy, sorry, I was up late.
Damn.
I'm sorry.
They're not clowns, they're just underperforming.
Or maybe they're performing.
77 and 79.
It's not clownish.
They lost 7 and 9.
a 14 down the stretch.
Just pay, all who we're asking for is
500 ball.
John.
John?
Hey, yes, hello.
Good morning, guys.
You're chuckling back there.
I like when you chuckle.
That makes me feel better.
Yeah, I like your back and forth.
So that's good.
Hey, I wanted to chime in a little bit
on how these pitchers
are babyed today.
You know, I saw the best
event or performance any Houston
athlete ever did.
I was at the game in 1979.
It was September 22nd when J.R. Richard pitched nine innings against the Reds.
He was dueling Tom Seaver, and yet I'll never forget that game.
It's always in the back of my mind.
And when he came out the 11th inning to pitch, and Seaver was relieved then.
But I mean, the way the Astrodome erupted was unbelievable.
And I think he struck out the side, if I remember right.
and so I don't know
it's just I don't know what it is nowadays
I don't know if the
I remember back in the day
I mean pitchers would run a lot
I remember I went to the Baltimore's game
Orioles game one time and you saw
Dave McNally and Jim Palmer
Mike Quay are running in the outfield because I was
born and raised in Minnesota at the time
and you just don't see that anymore
I just don't know if it's the legs
or what but
I just don't get it why these pitchers can't
go deeper.
Okay.
And it was just...
John, I love you like a second cousin, but we're going to talk about a couple of things here.
Let's go to your second point first.
So you saw somebody in the 1970s running.
Do you really in your heart of hearts, don't give me a long explanation, nice short one here,
do you really believe that today's athlete in 2026 does not keep themselves physically in condition?
I suspect it.
Yeah.
Really? With all of the tubs that used to pitch in the baseball back in the 70s and 80s, you're really? How many tubbies do you see?
The tubs? Are you kidding me? Yeah, maybe Rick Russell, Terry Forster? I can go. Oh, Danny McLean. Yeah, okay. So there's, Matt won John zero.
All right. Number two, you referenced a game of J.R. Richard in 1979.
It is 2026.
Don't you think everything in life evolves?
How many times?
How many pitchers have you seen pitch 11 innings in a baseball game since 1979?
I don't know of anybody.
There you go.
It just doesn't happen anymore.
It doesn't mean that today's athletes aren't as strong or physically fit.
In fact, the sport has advanced.
The sport is more advanced in 2026.
was the 1979. It just is.
I don't buy that, but okay.
I think payfall's too traditional, and I just think
that there's some things that are
missing. I just don't get it how
I don't know. Anyway, that's
just my view. All right, thank you, John, for the phone
call. I mean, because they are
physically more fit and pushing their bodies harder, that's why
they are trying to put governors on them, because they're pushing
their bodies too far. They're pushing to limits.
Gaylord Perry.
I mean, do I, you know what go on? I mean,
They weren't the most physically fit pitchers out there.
I can just bring you from 2002.
This is some baseball data.
Average fastball velocity was 89 in 2002.
And that was it, I mean it was in 79.
I'm sorry, in 2002, it was 89 miles per hour.
So what was it in 1979?
Probably slower than that.
Average fastball velocity.
Last year, it was 94 miles an hour.
So it's uptick 5 miles an hour in 20 years.
I know this is going to hurt some people's feelings.
And I know, Joe, I love you like again, second kind of.
Yes.
everything in life evolves.
Technology, finance, athletics, your workplace, everything evolves.
Now, some things are better than in the past they were.
Because you remember you have great vivid memories of yesteryear.
But the reality is if Bob Gibson is pitching in, here's a Russian idea.
Here we go.
If Bob Gibson's a starting pitcher in 2006, he ain't going 11 innings.
because guess what, Bob Gibson was making $75,000 a year in 1968.
He's making $27 to $35 million a year,
and they're going to treat these guys with kid gloves
because they're huge investments.
They were not investments.
Right.
They're paying them $30 million a year.
You're going to try to protect your investment.
Yeah.
Because, again, the sport has evolved.
Doesn't mean it's always better, but just saying it's evolved.
And by the way, I watch baseball in 79, and I've watched it in 26.
Okay.
I like 2026 better.
To be brutally honest with you.
I didn't watch in 79
But I liked it better when Tony Usabio was playing
That's because you're weirdo
Ray on 790 good morning Ray
Hey good morning guys how you doing
Good great
Man long time caller
I love your show
But I just want to make two quick comments
And I want to get you guys
Take on it
First real quick on the Astros
It's just as simple as
Aspiler just needs to stop pitching
Brian King
And that's just
You just can't afford to pitch him right now.
It's just, and that's just that on that.
As far as the Texans go, I'm looking, Marvin Harrison, Jr.
He's basically nonexistent in Arizona.
He had zero targets yesterday, zero catches.
I'm thinking maybe, and I know Nick Ossario probably won't,
but why don't you kick the cans on Marvin Harrison, Jr.?
He has a pass with C.J. Stroud.
He's had some of his most prolific receiving games at Ohio State with C.J.
Sprout, his quarterback, take a look at that.
And the reason I say that is because as much as I like Nico Collins,
you at some point, the injuries, and I know it could happen to anyone,
but you might need to start kind of looking at someone else because I just,
I'm over to injuries with Nico, Nico Collins.
It's just, it's just injury after injury,
and it's four to five games every year that you can almost bank on him,
sitting out with some sort of injury.
And it's just, and I'm over it.
But no, I'll listen to what you guys
have to say on and I'll hang up and listen. Have a great
Monday. Thank you very much. Appreciate the nice words.
I think they've already attempted
to go catch lightning in a bottle, and I hate to use a term.
I apologize. Kisham, booty,
Kishan was the pick.
Yeah, I mean, you had to go ahead
and trade for somebody. Unfortunately, Jaden Higgins
went down. Now Nico Collins has heard again.
So, yeah, you're down to your three, four, five
guys, and well, three, four, five guys on the roster
are not very good. Yeah, they're guys.
They're just guys. Xavier Hutchins, he can make some plays.
He can make some big plays, but he can also miss some big plays.
I mean, it's just who he is.
Jalen K.L. Work in progress.
Kisham Booty, still getting integrated.
And, I mean, last year, we're all happy with the trade.
He had like under 600 yards and like six touchdowns for the Patriots.
So it's not like he's a number one, number one.
Yeah.
No, I think he's done.
If he's going to go move some things, he's going to go try to find some offensive line help if it struggles.
I think the receiving category of the room, especially when Nico comes back,
will be significantly better.
And real quick on the bullpen, because everyone's crushing Joe Espada for going to Brian King.
Hater, Brayu, off the board.
Uyola hadn't pitched for two days.
You could have gone with him.
My's long relief.
Santos's not even on the team.
Logan Van Wives pitched 33 pitches on Saturday,
and Blue Ball had been used for two straight days Friday and Saturday.
So it was either King or Uyola.
So, I mean, pick your poison.
Can you bring sense to the table.
It makes me sad.
I know.
All right.
To tell the truth is up next.
Ebenezer and Jesse do not go anywhere.
We'll get to you guys when we're done with it to tell the truth.
So don't be hanging up,
I'm going to go do other things.
Come on, hang with us.
We're the most call-friendly show in Houston.
We always have been.
We like you.
Well, we like everybody, most everybody.
But the great thing about me is,
I do know how to tell the truth.
Ross and Jonathan, I have four takes here.
I believe three of them.
I'm only lying about one.
Okay.
All right.
So, one lie.
It's up to you.
guys to figure out which one of the four
I'm lying about.
All right, Matthew.
Number one.
If the offense continues
to struggle,
Nick Cayley will not
survive the season. He will be
a mid-season firing.
That's number one.
Okay.
Number two.
Yes,
the chiefs were at home
for the first two games. Yes, they were in
national television.
Chiefs Hater number one,
it's not going to like this.
Pat Mahomes is all the way back.
I am all in on what I saw yesterday
and what I saw in the first week of the season.
Tear and everything.
That guy's back.
Yeah.
Number three.
Looks pretty good.
I will admit to you, ladies and gentlemen,
I am a flip-flopper.
The Astros ain't one in the West.
I don't care what Yorna Aver is.
said the boys after the game.
It is what it is.
It's Taylor Tremel.
It's Lamont Wade.
It's Kim Smith.
It's Christian Walker.
I can go on and on and on.
They ain't going to the West and winning it.
Okay.
All right.
And number four, despite the O.N. 2 start,
I'm sticking with the Texans record,
as I said before the start of the season,
at 10 wins and seven losses.
So my four takes again are,
one, if the offense continues a struggle,
Nick Cayley does not survive the season.
will be fired before the season is over with.
Number two, I am sold that Patrick Mahomes is all the way back.
Number three, I'm officially a flip-flop or the Astros will not win the West.
And number four, I'm sicking for the Texans at 10 and 7.
Gentlemen, there are three truths and one lie.
Which one of them I'm not telling you the truth.
All right, Jonathan.
I know we collaborate on these.
Let's get this up the way.
He definitely believes Mahomes is back.
I know.
I mean, yeah, my homes looks good.
He looks good.
And I'm going to be realistic.
I know.
I'm sorry.
Justin Herbert, not so much.
Come on. I've always wanted him, but I didn't get him this year.
Go Chargers, go 0-N-2.
Against the Raiders in the Cardinals.
Yikes. At home. Yikes. 0-7.
Fisely on the Texans watch.
On the road to Buffalo, too.
Arch Manning, your new quarterback in Los Angeles.
Anyway, moving on.
We'll see.
I think it would be wise to you can't go off your season prediction
just two games in, even though they're 0.2.
Bingles and Bill's losses are not the craziest thing ever.
The schedule does soften up.
Firing mid-season?
I think Matt still thinks the Astro's going to win the West.
If there's one thing I know about Matt, he digs into his opinions no matter how bad.
So I'm going to go three.
You think he believes Nick Hale got fired mid-season?
No, it's one true.
Wait, one he doesn't believe.
Oh, wait, I'm behind.
Wait, three truce.
Wait, one lie.
Yeah, he says they're not winning the one.
he thinks they're winning the West. I'm going three.
After this weekend? All they have to do is tie the
Rangers.
Yordon made a bunch of noise.
You know.
All right. I'm going to go.
I don't think he believes
Nick Caleb would get fired mid-season.
Not mid-season.
So you think I'm lying
about Nick Cayley? Yes.
Raj, you think I'm lying about? I don't think the Astros win the West.
Yes. Final answers, boys?
Sure, why not? Yeah, why not?
Look, number one, I'm soul.
Pat Mahomes is back.
I don't know.
It looks great.
He looks fantastic.
I should have drafted him in my fantasy team.
Number two, I'm not stunned.
The Texans are Owen, too.
They took on two quality AFC playoff
opponents.
You would like to have split,
especially with your home.
You're now two games down in the home column.
But I think the Texans can win 10 and 7.
You've still got a lot of Colts.
You've got a lot of...
You've got a brown still.
You've got two with Tennessee.
You can get 10 wins.
So I believe that.
Jonathan.
This is the
week for you to catch up a little bit?
Yes, I am down five weeks.
Yeah, yeah.
You can now make it six weeks.
That's okay.
All right.
I do believe Nick Cayley is a goner if the offense continues a strangle.
No, that's, I mean, that's, I wouldn't believe.
That was so easy to me.
This was an easy one.
Texan Tater number one.
Of course you want Nick Caley.
I don't hate the text, and I'm a realist.
I don't cut this ghost like everybody else does.
Gee, we go to my YouTube page and I'm a failed radio person.
I was thinking to a.
hard into details.
Do you think Matt's backing off the Astros?
It's only one game.
It's one freaking game.
Okay.
How are they doing?
How many of their last 14 of they won?
As you said, a tie gives them the division.
Right.
Yeah, no.
That's what I picked as well on Sports Sunday on NBC at 1139 last night or whatever.
I was late, by the way.
I said, I think they tie and win.
That's what I'm going to go with.
Charlton, you have to stop playing this game.
I'm sorry.
You're just not good at it.
Hey, well, last week.
Yeah, but he did too.
You're not making any grass.
You're down down six weeks.
The 80s don't stop playing the season just because they lose.
They win some games.
You're the Seattle Mariners who to tell the truth.
I'll take that better than angels.
Better than the angels.
That's good.
All right, that's to tell the truth.
Let's get a call in before we get back to,
we got Aggie football tweets to get to.
Oh, really?
Ebeneasel.
Aboniesel.
Evan Neeser's called before.
Hi, Ebenezer.
Yeah.
I don't know why everybody's
upset about the Texans. I mean, they're trying hard
and they're having fun. Isn't that what sports
is all about? Exactly. And they're making millions, so they're doing
fine. Yeah, I don't know what
everybody's so upset about. This is what sports is
all about, trying hard and having fun. Yes.
It's not about winning and losing.
Not really. Okay.
Go home
and take your paycheck.
Yep. Okay, thank you.
Thank you. Ebenezer
come. Wow. He waited a long time. He brought
the fire. Yeah. What a call.
I can build a show off of that call.
Unbelievable stuff.
I'm going to disagree.
If I'm playing a sport, I'm going to win.
I think he was being sarcastic.
You're wrong.
Just like you have to tell the truth.
Jesse on 790.
Hi, Jesse.
Jesse's girl?
Can you hear me?
Yes.
Oh, sorry.
Good morning.
What's up?
So, before I ask my question,
I have to say that I actually think the Astros are done.
Unfortunately, they never went in Seattle.
anymore.
And so that's too off the magic number.
And the Rangers are in good balls.
So unfortunately, I think they're done.
But my question is, do you think the injuries to the pitcher is specific of the Astros?
I don't know how the injuries are around the league.
But I think the pitch clock has anything to do with that.
And I'll hang up to listen.
No, not anymore.
This is two years into this thing.
They've got accustomed to it.
Actually, it's been longer than that, two years, right?
It's a few years.
Well, I'm going to give you an answer that we're not supposed to give you as a radio hosts.
Please.
I don't know.
We don't have enough data.
I don't know.
We'd have to go in an alternate universe where there is no pitch clock and then compare
the injuries in the universe that we have where there is a pitch clock.
I think in year one, there were probably some people that were having mentioned.
I mean, Ryan Presley admitted as much as I just, I wasn't myself.
I could see tempo and rhythm being a bigger issue than the injuries.
But today's pitchers, I mean, you, we've brought this up before, Ross.
Minor League pitchers have been working with the pitch clock even longer before
got to the major league. So those of the up-and-comers have been acclimated to this.
Well, I'll give it to this way. If I'm a lawyer for the Players Association, I have concerns.
If I'm a lawyer for Major League Baseball, I think it's all good.
Yeah.
You can look at the data however you want.
Injuries are way up. How much of that is emphasis on spin and emphasis on velocity?
How much of that is pitch clock?
I don't know.
To me, the early days of guys being worn out by it,
I think they're being better trained,
they're used to it now.
There's been a larger sample size.
It could be some factor, but I don't think it's a major factor.
All right.
Boy, the folks in Aggie land did not have a good Saturday, Ross, did they?
That's a shame.
I think I beat bad by Kentucky.
How were the police?
Were they busy?
Their fan base is usually so nice and reasonable.
We'll find out next.
It's really sad.
TAMU Police.
That's straight ahead.
844 on 790.
All right.
I felt bad for Jonathan Ross
that he's now
six weeks behind on to tell the truth.
So we're going to give him a little bit of shine here.
We are?
We're going to let him interpret the tweets this week.
Okay.
Don't give me a pity interpretation.
It's okay.
Sorry.
That's the best you're going to get.
All right.
Two hours to kickoff.
This is at T.
AMU police,
Ags,
let's hashtag BTHO Kentucky.
Stay hydrated,
stay aware,
and report anything suspicious.
Nice and cut and dry.
BTHO Kentucky.
All right.
I'll read what happened.
Jonathan,
you give us a quick five second.
What do you think really happened?
MIP times two.
Uh-oh.
Two females holding drinks at the bar of the tailgate,
saw officer and put drinks down and walked away.
Citations issued hashtag BTHO Kentucky.
Hey,
cop right here. Let's just head out. He's never going to know.
What's he leave right now? Idiots.
Yeah. Perfect.
Next.
MIP times two.
Two male subjects attempted to hide drinks when they saw officer.
Citations issued hashtag BTHO Kentucky.
They were just too far gone.
I don't get that. Why hiding the drinks behind your back?
Hey, Austin, bro. As our caller said, who's it? Was Aggie Doug or somebody?
Red Solo Cup. Let's go.
No, for real.
That's Austin and Brody getting.
caught, by the way. Austin and Brody?
There's no aggy girl called Austin,
is there? Oh, there's plenty of them.
Next, Jonathan, MIP.
Female subject saw officer
dropped her truly and attempted to hide in crowd.
Hiding in the crowd. Citation's
issued.
How do you hide the crowd? I guess you could hide the crowd.
Are these tweets sponsored
now? Why is truly
getting run here? Hashtag BTHO
Kentucky. Why would she drop her drink? Actually, I don't know what's going to hire.
All right.
Next, MIP.
Female subjects saw officer and threw her white claw in the trash.
Citation issued, hashtag BTHO, Kentucky.
I think these are sponsored now.
Charlie, why are today's young and throwing all their drinks away?
Getting clawed up.
I don't even know.
Next.
Didn't you pass it to somebody just say, hey, my drink real quick?
Exactly.
Next, MIP.
Female subject saw officer and attempted to walk away.
When officer stopped her, she dropped her smear-off lemonade.
Citation issued.
Smirnoff Lemonade.
What is this?
2001?
Today's you,
John.
Then what are they drinking?
No, we actually,
Sprint off is,
you know, it's very popular,
you know,
very cheap, you know.
Very acidic, though.
Smeard off ice head of time.
Yeah, it gets you bloated,
you know,
it gets you bloated.
It's still is time.
All right.
Here's a boring one.
M. IP,
female subject,
saw officer and handed her drink
to a friend,
citation issued,
hashtag BTHO Kentucky.
Nothing fun there.
Next.
In Toxxist.
Subject.
Subject had difficulty
maintaining balance.
EMS contacted.
Released a sober friend.
Hashtag BTHO Kentucky.
That's an awkward situation there.
That's embarrassing.
Yeah.
What do you do as a sober friend?
Do you like have like they just push it?
Like what does it happen?
Not only you can't keep your balance,
but your friend who wants to go watch the game has to watch you now.
What if I'm not,
I'm not even your friend though?
Like, what if we're just roommates?
We're like, okay, cool.
I went to the game with you.
But I'm not trying to leave the game.
Well, it says release a sober friend.
friend and we don't know how good of a friend they are.
Ross, if you were a Texas
game and your friend
was getting the balanced test,
which is not a, it's a five or ten minute
process there. Okay. And you're missing
a key fourth quarter. You'd be bad if this friend,
would you know? I wouldn't be there. You're leaving your friend.
Ghost them, exactly.
You're across the stadium at this point.
Next. Vaping.
Officer responded
to a subject who would not stop vaping.
Ejected. Hashtag B. T.H.O. Kentucky.
refusing to stop vaping?
I thought this is America.
This doesn't even sound like a student.
It's like a bear cat or something.
Why was a bear cat at the game?
You know, it's hour away, Huntsville.
That's true.
That's a quick trip.
Intoxicated subject behind section 338,
officer responded to a report of intoxicated subject
passed out in locker bathroom stall.
Locked bathroom stall.
Oh, excuse me, locked bathroom stall.
That's bad.
Not only is she drunk, passed out.
Or he.
Or he.
But then you got to just kick the door down, I guess.
I don't know.
Somebody's got to crawl under there?
Release to sober friend ejected hashtag BTHO Kentucky.
I'm confused.
Is a sober friend ejected too?
That's what I'm saying.
Let me tell you.
I want to meet these sober friends because they're really great friends.
Now, the game is on a hand at this point, so maybe they want to leave anyway.
Yeah, getting your ass kicked by Kentucky.
You got to get, lock yourself in the back.
bathroom. Next, intoxicated
subject, released a sober friend, ejected
hashtag BTHO Kentucky.
Mm-hmm, wait, wait, wait, wait. Next,
intoxicated subject. Intoxicated
friends were trying to help her,
but were unsuccessful.
She had only quote, two drinks.
She only had two drinks. Released to EMS,
hashtag BTHO, Kentucky. That's a lie.
Two gallon size drinks, maybe.
That's a lie. Next.
Four shots on that, too.
Intoxicated subject in section 230.
Subject would stumble and lean against the wall,
released a sober friend,
ejected hashtag BTHO Kentucky.
Now, was that the wall that's got all the conference championships on it?
That's a good long wall.
All the extra national championships too?
Yep.
And our last one,
subject jumping over wall from 339 to 338.
His ticket was in section 350.
So now is he jumping from wall to wall.
He's 12 sections off.
Well, he must have got lost.
ejected hashtag B-T-H-O Kentucky
He wasn't even intoxicated
Dang
Why are we jumping wall to wall?
What's the issue?
I'm trying to get to your friend's section
You just can't
I guess you're at 350?
I don't know
But he's way off
He is absolutely way off
And that my friends
Was this week
Now this week
They're at LSU
So we really
Now
No tweets next week
Gordie
Does Gordie have LH
LSU police tweets.
LSU police?
They don't even have police there, do they?
They don't care what's going on there.
Yeah, they do, but they're drinking too.
Yeah, as long as there's no gunfire, they're fine.
Yeah, that'd be fine.
Baton Rouge?
Intoxicated.
That's like, if you don't go into Tiger Stadium drunk, you get arrested.
I believe they hate you a beer when you walk in.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's like, you know, when it's hot, they hydrate you?
Yeah, they don't have hydration stations.
They got hurricane stations.
Yeah, I said it first.
I couldn't get hurricane on my mouth fast.
I hate you
beat me to it
all right
they're going to the hurricane
station now
they got a six of them
around the stadium
glug glug glug
that and cane sauce
that's all they consume there
really yeah
glug glug glug glug glug glugggg
glug you don't hear glugggg
on major market radio shows very often
today you did
this is matt and ross in the morning
three one 12 of 14
but today
It's Zach Taylor
He is on a couple of great touchdown receptions.
Are you down, Houston?
I think you are.
I'll tell you once more, Ross.
Don't bring me down.
Don't bring this show down.
I bring the show down sometimes.
You can elevate it most of the time.
All right.
I have not asked you to do this.
This is right out the top.
Here at 9 o'clock hour.
It's men and Ross in the morning.
Hey.
Good morning to you.
Come on in and join us.
713-212-5-790.
Water's warm.
I get, yeah.
You want cold water?
I don't want bath water.
Cool refreshing would be what I want to go with.
That's with the 90 degree temperatures.
You're like to draw a warm bath?
By yourself or with someone else?
I mean, how much room do you have?
You got a big bathtub?
I bet you do have a nice big bath, palatial bathtub.
It's a jacuzzi cup.
Jakuzy, yeah.
I don't need to hear that.
Why?
It's got, it's got...
No, I don't need to know that.
I don't need to know that.
I mean, well...
If you want to tell us how big your tub is,
713, 212, 570.
Tub Talk 790.
Mm-hmm.
All right.
What's all with that?
A nice, a warm, relaxing bath.
My crystal ball, go ahead.
You ready?
Yes.
One week from today.
Okay.
Are we discussing a Texans win?
Yes or no?
Yes.
I feel so too.
Maybe not, but whatever.
Crystal ball.
One week from today.
Okay.
Are we sizing up Astros?
Oh, God.
V, either the White Sox or the Guardian.
ask me today. I mean, I think
my head
says they
tie the Rangers.
So that's your answer.
But my gut, my gut right
now, which fluctuates
depending on your diet.
I got a fluctuating gut.
It's not good vibes.
How could I have good vibes right now?
They got the day off and they just got swept by the
Braves. It went 0 for 3
with the bases loaded.
You're not even well as much.
in scoring position.
Starting pitching still is, it's the same old Astros basically from this year.
You could literally take what you just said and we could play this back four months ago.
And fast forward to four months today.
Yeah.
Well, the bullpen taxed angle is probably more recent.
But still, bullpen is taxed.
Starters aren't going deep in games.
Back into the lineup is bad.
Camp Smith is struggling.
Can't figure out anything in outfield.
Yesterday there's a substitute for a non-hitting outfield or you had a non-hitting Nick Allen who went over.
for four.
Because you went with Altuve, you're in D.H.
The general manager, whomever it will be,
and Jim Crane, obviously, who will make the ultimate decision is,
you can't start buying arbitration years out of Cam Smith.
You just can't.
I mean, it depends on how much you believe in him
and how much of a good deal you can get.
I think you can do it and get a good deal on him because he's a gold glove
right fielder.
You start with that.
I think you can wait one more year.
He was a finalist last year.
But what if you wait one more year and he hits 30 bombs and he really blossoms
next year?
Then you're kicking yourself.
Yeah, you can take your chances.
It's up to them.
They're the ones that get to see him.
He's got a work ethic.
He's got a good head on his shoulders.
He's extremely athletic.
You stood next to him.
He's a creative player athletically and physically.
And he got thrown into the hot grease immediately.
He had 20 plate appearances above A ball.
We will get to a long term about the future of the Astros when the season is all said and done.
I've got a lot of takes I'm going to hold on to on that because we're going to be some time.
We're going to have a long off season.
Long off season.
There's a deep playoff run.
Some are selling it.
Is that happening?
Well, Yordon Alvarez believes there's a team that can make a deep playoff run because he, this is through
the interpreter.
Yordon does not speak enough English to go to a microphone.
He knows enough, but not enough to have a conversation.
Here's the interpreter talking to the media about what Yordon did yesterday.
You know, we had a team meeting about that.
We had a conversation about that.
You know, basically for us, it was three straps in the face, you know, that they gave.
us right in front of our fans especially and just use tomorrow to you know take it as a
reset day and rest and then you know there's only the only thing left is to go out there and
win the six games that we had left we spoke to me what was your what was your message today
no that's us something personal it's personal just you read anybody else say anything
I don't get into the gruhobe.
No, I don't get to tell you about that's a case inside the clubhouse.
I don't want to give details about the team meeting.
All right, so he didn't give us any details.
Yeah.
I think he rattled some cages, pointed some fingers.
By the way, Yorna can do that if you punch Cam Smith in the stomach.
Yeah.
He, uh, yeah, he suplexed Brian King.
He went to Carlos Pena, or Carlos German Pinyon said,
man, I thought you were hitting sliders again.
Did he go?
Did he go chair by chair?
Oh, I would with this station.
Yeah?
Yeah.
Here?
Absolutely.
Oh, really?
You go chair by chair?
Yeah.
So you see yourself as the Yoron Alvarez of this lineup?
I mean, true words never spoken.
All right, MVP.
But because I am like Yoron, I will not tell you what I would say.
Oh, keep it personal.
I got you.
Yes.
I got you.
Hmm.
All right.
me ask you this. When does Will Anderson need to do a yarn on Alvarez?
Never.
Okay. I think you're right, but I just was just throwing it out there for conjecture.
It's all good.
You're like kick Lamont Wade Jr. in the shin.
She chewing everyone out.
Said something to Joe. Was Joe in there or not? Was it team only meeting?
No, it got to be team only. Players only, I'm sorry.
You know, if you have a players only meeting, the manager's like, he's already, he's our
showered and shaved. He's a long gone.
Jeremy Payne did his players only thing, and they won a few games after that, right?
So all we're asking for is one week of awesomeness.
I guess this is going to fire the guys up.
Let's go.
Whatever it takes.
713-212-5-7-90.
So Will Anderson's going to do this this week if they lose the cults, right?
Do you think he chewed Tatsu E. Maya via his interpreter?
No, they're done with him.
Do you think they're interpreters?
We're both just like...
No.
With each other, screaming.
I'm segue-wing.
I'm out of this.
We're not guessing what Yoran said.
Just like I would not...
What is so now?
Just like, again, if what I've chewed...
got our 790 staff multiple times.
Absolutely. Will I tell you what happened?
No. God, yeah. We've all been screamed at by Matt Thomas.
That's true, actually.
You're not a part of the family unless you've been screamed at by me at least once.
All right. So the Texans lose 20 to 6 yesterday.
Greg Raj in front of the show had a stat yesterday that was hard to fathom.
Yet it happened, Ross.
That's not what I want to hear. Go ahead.
The stat is the following.
Where did I?
I don't know.
You're the one that brought it up.
I had it ready and it was gone.
That's okay. Follow SportsMT.
Yeah.
Follow on Instagram too.
You should.
I just told them to.
I took a video of the great time in Texas Tech that we had.
Oh, man.
That's great.
I love going to Lubbock.
Here it is.
The Texans yesterday became the ninth team since the NFL-AFL merger
to throw 55 or more passes and score six or fewer points.
That's, wow.
It's impressive.
Because you would think 55 passes meant you were in a back and forth game
or even if you were trailing by a big number you'd score.
Yeah, you get like one garbage time touchdown, which we were hoping for.
But no, there's just a bunch of fourth down L's the Texans were taking.
How about the time that Stroud late fourth quarter when the Bengals went with eight members of the secondary
and had three down linemen and still sacked CJ Stroud?
Not a good performance from the offensive line.
Very discouraging.
We never looked at the way.
I know.
the same thought rankings.
Write that down for Wednesday.
All right.
Well, I can look at last weeks, I guess.
Look at last week.
How do they do after that first week against the Buffalo Bills?
We're supposed to judge the offensive line.
I'm going to write that down for stuff to do on Wednesday.
Yeah, write it down.
Yeah.
Wednesday offensive line check.
Good God.
I mean, you are the offensive line expert in the marketplace.
I don't think so.
I think you are.
Yeah.
We're killing time here, aren't we?
Oh.
Go ahead.
Tell us.
Tell the truth.
31st.
Oh my gosh.
Out of how many?
That would be 32 NFL teams.
They were number 31.
So, come on, Keelan.
I'm going to have you, hold on to this.
Nick Casero has tried year after year after year to fix this offensive line.
Here is the, you ready for this comp?
Go ahead.
Nick Casario trying to improve the offensive line is,
the comp did Dana Brown trying to improve the Astros minor league system?
Argue with me or not. We'll discuss that next.
I broached the question with Sports RV. He will get the first answer. I will respond as well.
Is the comp of Dana Brown trying to fix a minor league system the exact comp, better comp, worse comp, than Nick Casero trying to fix the offensive line?
I thought you were going to go with Dana Brown off-season pitching moves.
That feels better.
So I would say the comp is okay, but not great.
Sorry, Matt.
But it's also apples to oranges when you're building a farm system
and when you're building an offensive line to borrow the baseball term,
the major league level.
Kenyon Green? Yeah, he's more like a Ryan Weiss.
See, who did you sign from another team?
Wyatt Teller?
See, your Tatsuya Imi?
So let me ask you this.
And I don't know the answer to this because I don't want to know the answer to this.
If I know the answer to this, which means I don't have any friends.
Would Ed Ingram's appearance in yesterday's game greatly improve the Texans' offensive line?
I think it would.
Greatly, I don't know.
Rightly is a strong term.
I would say no.
I tell her he had a bad camp and then he got benched.
And by way, they're spending decent money on him too.
Yeah.
That's a whiff.
I mean, you whiffed on Cam Robinson last year that you signed.
Arionte Ursary? Is anybody
confusing him with a franchise left tackle?
Oh, I kept calling him Arionte
Tunsel for the longest time.
Why?
I just saw the left tackle.
Oh, I thought it was maybe like
he had nine false starts or something.
No, well, there were false starts out there, don't worry.
Trent Brown took care about that.
Full start.
I mean, you got Trent Brown,
I mean, I like Trent Brown, but he's 33 years old.
They're just guys.
Just a guy.
And he was good, but.
Got a 15-yard penalty yesterday.
Now he was the second guy in.
Nobody's confusing any of these guys with any.
Nobody's sniffing an all pro or pro bowl.
Anything.
So I'm going to play the role of David Mulligan of the agent for one C.J. Stroud.
Okay.
You expect my quarterback to put up big numbers and not have interceptions and pressures
when you're throwing this mid-line up out there for me?
How about you give me an offensive line and we'll talk?
Offensive line or run game and pass catchers.
I mean, it's kind of what we've been talking about.
What's the help C.J. Shroud would need, right?
Would be a run game, would be an offensive line, would be a pass catcher, would be a good play caller.
Does he have any of that?
No.
And I'm not even counting by yesterday.
I'm talking about overall the course of the year.
This is not just a one look week of an off week among stars.
This is the roster construction.
Again, I mean, Nick Cayley, he doesn't have a lot of those things to work with that we're talking about as well.
I mean, it starts with the offensive line.
Again, we're thinking about this from our perspective
because we only care about the Texans.
Are 31 other teams
wrestling, grappling with trying to construct an offensive line?
I think so. I mean, we had Dan Hort on last week, and he talked about that.
The Bengals say they say they haven't addressed the offensive line.
It's just the moves they made haven't worked.
Because I tell you what, Joe Burrell's had a hard time staying upright.
Only, you know, only one left tackle gets named all pro.
And there's 32 teams.
So it's tough.
I mean, Arionte Erisor, he's good for who he is
out of all the left tackles on the whole planet.
But out of the left tackles in the NFL,
man.
All right.
So on Wednesday, when PFF goes out,
they're going to individual grade these guys too, correct?
The individual grades should already be out.
I can go try to find those if you'd like.
If you want to really get upset.
Because in theory, Ross, help me out with this.
How is Keelan Rutley?
grading out. Remember, that's what Nick Kassarro said before. The start of the season was the best
offensive line. He was getting torched all game this past week. I mean, and also, Dexter Lawrence is just
a madman. Yeah, sometimes other guys, another saw the field. Other guys get paid too, as they say.
As they say, yeah, that's right. Is Indianapolis?
You know what win? Oh, don't even say it. A needing victory.
Last week was already must, everybody's going to be calling it a must win anyways. It was a must
win against Jacksonville week three. Will there be a member of the media? This last week was a must win.
the fake media of the Texans credential
because they just
credential anybody.
I guarantee people
will be calling it a must win.
Two and a half point favorites.
Less than a field goal.
Colts moved last night.
From what I watched, they moved the ball.
They were moving the ball.
Daniel Jones looked like he's healthy.
Jonathan Taylor, how many big games
has he had against the Texans?
Feels like a lot.
He's not in T.Y. Hilton territory, but he's
getting close. Yeah, he's getting close.
So, yeah.
You should be worried.
A little bit.
Did you find the individual grade?
Oh, I'm sorry.
Do you want me to do that?
If you can.
Yeah, okay.
No pressure.
That's fine.
Let me go.
9.30, we got missing you coming up.
9.50 we got believe it or not.
Which I'm assuming is Earth, Wind and Fire, are we going with that?
Oh, we're doing.
No, I was going to do the Braves.
Oh, that's fine.
Earth winning fire?
I could do that, too.
It's up to you.
We've only promoted the, believe it or not, since six.
We've done it every day for 16 years.
Yeah, well, you didn't give me a topic.
I'll have to give you topics?
You've never, I can.
I'll give you topic every day.
Oh, no.
but usually reject them.
Well, I want a good topic.
Oh, my God.
Please.
Keeler Rutledge got a 39 pass block grade and a 38 run block grade.
And I'm assuming by the one you say, oh, my God, it's not great.
Dave Montgomery got a good run.
Your best run block grade was David Montgomery.
Blake Fisher got a 79 pass block grade in two snaps.
So you're building off of that.
Woody Marks, these are your top pass block grades.
David Montgomery, Woody Marks, Marlon Klein.
Arionta Erisory was your best offensive lineman in terms of past grade with a 63.
What's a high number?
I'll get like 75 would be good.
70 would be good.
About above average.
75 would be above average.
80 or 90 would be just so insane.
But we can't ask for that right now.
We're not asking for her in though.
Let's talk to Joe on 7 out of at 926.
Hi, Joe.
Hey, how's going, fellas?
I was just calling, I'm being a Debbie Downer today.
And I hope the Astros don't make the playoffs because there's going to be some team out there that's going to be like, oh, we advance to the playoffs by beating the Houston Astros.
And I don't even want our name out there.
I'd rather us not even make it.
And the Texans is the same way.
I'd rather us just go ahead and lose out because CJ Stroud won 60.
greedy C.J. Straude, by the way,
won $60 million a year for that performance.
No thank you.
I can go out there and do the exact same thing he did, which was nothing.
Joe, how old are you?
I'm 54 years old.
You're saying that if you had 54 years old could give the same amount of effort that
CJ Stroud did.
Yeah.
No, Joe, your arm's falling off after 55 throws, Joe.
There's no doubt in my mind.
Joe, you're in a rehab facility after last night's game.
But I could do zero points.
You're ripping a rotator cuff by throw 20.
Joe, you have sold yourself after the first snap.
I'll hang up and listen.
Thank you, Joe.
And we do appreciate you calling in, Joe, but that's loser mentality.
I don't even want them to make the playoffs.
I hate that.
In the history of my sports radio career.
Yes.
Anytime
somebody tells me this
I'd rather us lose
so then statement comes into play
I don't want to say I totally disregard it
but I totally disregard
You totally riskered
I mean it's saying I'd rather us not even get in the playoffs
No I'm not saying that
That's that's ridiculous now I don't think they're good
I don't think they're going to go very far
But I'd we'd rather have playoff baseball than not
I always always always
always want playoffs in my sports.
If you got a chip, you got a chance, as the kids would say.
Peter Lambert's ready to carve up the competition.
This week.
Cam Smith is ready.
Cam Smith, Peter Lambert's going to own West Sacramento.
In fact, I'm so confident with it.
I'm going to make sure that I get to Calci in time for that.
Okay.
For baseball.
For college football.
Let me look at the Yale West odds.
Oh, are you looking?
I'm going to look at Houston against Georgia Southern and feel very confident about
going to
Oh,
Staysboro.
Jeez.
I'm staying in Savannah.
It's a tough roadie.
I'm,
of course,
going to Savannah,
Ross.
Texas trading at 56%,
Houston trading at 40%.
Of course,
it's Arlington.
Good value.
This is our weekly Monday check-in
on what's happening
with ex-Huston athletes.
Ross, we welcome a new member
of the missing your family.
We go to the national.
National Football League and we'll go to him last.
But first, let's go to our mainstays.
First of a shout out to our friend Alex Bregman
who suffered a nasty,
flukeish injury while on the batters
on the on deck circle.
Friendly fire, foul ball
bounced into his eye.
That's bad luck right there. I mean, the black
and blue would be an understatement how that eye is.
He is hoping that he gets it fixed, but
time for the postseason, but
initial looks like that's
a pretty bad injury.
Five for 24,
this past week.
A home run
for
based on balls,
by the way.
Season numbers,
Alex Spregman,
26 home runs,
89 RBIs,
and an OPS of 804.
Ross, I ask you,
are you missing Alex Breggman?
Yes, I am.
Great comment,
good dude,
great family,
and slugging like a motor.
The last two months,
especially for the Chicago Cubs.
Can't believe his OPS is over 800.
8.04.
That is elite
in Major League Base.
ball. Framber Valdez this weekend. Five innings, Ross. Three runs. Three hits. Four walks.
Nine strikeouts took the loss. He is now 10 and 11 for the Tigers this year. In the area of 4.08.
I ask you, Ross, are you missing from Bravolde? I'll say yeah.
I miss him a lot. A little bit. But he's a five-inning guy too. What's going on all these five- inning guys?
I don't know.
Where's Nolan Ryan?
Wait, did Bob Gibson?
I used to watch Bob Gibson throw 150 pitches
with his right arm and then he turned to his left and threw for 100.
He used to throw 250 pitches in...
Carl Hubble wouldn't stand for any of this.
Ty Cobb didn't hate it this.
Sy Young didn't agree with this.
He got 500 wins.
Babe Ruth said no thank you to this.
Babe Ruth was playing in 2026.
He pitch every day.
that's enough
Kyle Tucker
Go ahead
9 for 20 this past week
Oh wow
Three home runs
Wow
That was the only one game right
Five RBIs
He's up to 17 home runs
70 ribbyes
And an OPS of 727
I ask you are you missing
Kyle Tucker
What's Kim Smith
Ofer streak
Don't look
I'm just asking for
No, look.
I still say I'm not missing him.
I'm not missing him.
I'm not missing them, but
OPS over 700 would be nice.
It's at 727 for time.
Hey, Jose L. Tuves Ops plus is back over
league average. He's at 101.
There you go. See, small victories.
Let's go.
Maricio Dubon.
Go ahead.
Last week.
12 for 27.
Damn.
He's playing every day.
No home runs.
A ribby.
11 home runs, 70 RBI.
So basically he's on the RBI track.
He's with Tucker.
His OPS is at 712 after being in the high sixes for a couple weeks.
I miss him.
Good week for Maricio Dubon.
We miss him.
He admitted that he talks to Jordan Alvarez almost every single day.
That's beautiful.
Isn't that nice?
I guess.
Came into Dyken Park and took Yarnier's lunch money and his girlfriend.
He didn't take anybody's girlfriend.
You don't know that.
It's too nice.
He is too nice.
for that. He swore's like a muddied. I like
him for that.
And now, Ross, would like to welcome to the missing
your family here at 938.
Washington
Commanders, wide receiver,
Stefan Diggs. Oh.
Hold on. Hold on. Go ahead.
I mean, he is a former Houston athlete. Yes, he is.
Two games
for the commanders. By the way,
their uniforms are like identical to the Redskins.
I want to keep calling the Redskins, but they're not the Redskins.
Nine catchings.
in two games.
Okay.
102 yards and three touchdowns.
Who was the Texans W.R. 1 this weekend?
Xavier Hutchison?
Dalton Schultz.
I will say I'm missing him.
Is Sean Moody?
Although you were digs hater number one.
That's true.
It's a locker room cancer.
Yeah, I was right.
It's not a locker room cancer.
Yeah, he was.
He's fine.
He's hanging out of boats with Cardi B.
Two teams ago.
Been on five teams in like the last six years.
Yeah, because he's at the end of his career.
Let me tell you, as an insider, I've been right about C.J.
Garner Johnson.
I was right about Stefan Diggs and I was right about Joe Mixing.
Boom, boom, boom.
Where were you right about Joe Mixing?
What were you right about Joe Mixing?
Jonathan, tell him.
Jonathan, by the way, get off your phone.
Where's the report?
When I hear Joe Mixon, I better hear Gunfire right away, Jonathan.
Let's go now.
Come on now.
Why gunfire?
Would you write?
Because he shot himself in the photo.
Allegedly.
On the internet rumors.
You don't know that.
It's not been reported anywhere.
On the internet, it was.
And when the internet says something, it must be true.
Okay.
It's too loud.
It scares me.
That's why I don't be playing them, man.
I know.
PTSD.
Yeah, exactly.
You know I grew up at Greenspoint.
You and Hannah.
Yeah.
By the way, Hannah ain't
put up with this much longer.
She needs financing for a stadium.
She ain't will be put up with O and 2.
I think they're going to have,
you say Houston's going to tell them to shut their bum ass up.
Shut.
To make it clear.
Yeah,
I got you.
That was nice that you clarified just in case.
I said it quickly.
I know.
I know.
It happens to me too.
It is.
I thought you're going to go,
how did Tommy Townsend do this weekend?
Oh,
you know what?
I'll make him on the next week's list.
I can go look at him.
Why am I looking up Tommy Townsend game logs?
Because Kai Kroger is going to be looking for a work here soon.
Kai Kroger.
Oh, yeah, seven, but only three, only four punts.
On average of?
50.8 for Tommy Towns over the Titans.
He was a free agent acquisition, correct?
It's pretty good, yeah.
How's Kai Kroger?
Go look up the Kroger's number.
Do you want to?
Want to press the audience?
He's 0 for 1 as a quarterback.
He's been punting a lot.
Five punts, 41 per average.
41?
Yeah, well, you were trying to deepen the field.
a little bit. Was he trying to cough in corner a bunch of those bad boys? Yeah, sure why not?
Week one, he was 52.
He's fine. 40% endowed inside the opponent's 20-yard. Well, there you go. So, Kai Kroger,
even though you can't throw football or hold onto the football on a simple exchange,
you're doing a great job. Yeah, this is as a boom-a-law. He's putting a soft touch on it.
Yeah, it's not good. It's fine.
The Texans have not, just, don't ever put priorities on punters. I guess how many teams do, but
It feels like we got a new one every single year for some sort.
I'm okay.
Don't attack that microphone that way.
What did the microphone do to you?
Rossi, we're going to play, believe it or not.
You ready for that?
Yes.
All right.
We've got to play.
So ready.
I have not looked at the prizes yet.
Do you think the prizes this week are good or bad or embarrassing?
I think they're going to be incredible.
Let's take a look here.
If you call 713-212-5-790, you can play, believe it or not, and the prizes this week will include the following.
All this isn't bad.
Four pack of tickets with pit party passes to Monster Jam October 17th at Reliance Stadium.
We also have five pair of tickets to see the stray cats on November the 12th at Smart Financial Center and a $100 TCR ranch wear gift certificate.
So, you know what we're going to do?
One correct answer.
Get you a win today.
So we're giving away pit party passes to Monster Jam.
The stray cats.
Do I know a stray cat song?
I was walking on a hot tin roof.
Hmm.
Have I let you down, folks, that I don't know who a stray cat?
I bet I know one.
I just added to hear it.
We're coming back with September.
Meow's the time?
I'm sorry.
September, Earth, One, and Fire to get the show finished off on a right note after
Ross touched by Cinergenics.
Good God, that was awful.
All right.
Jonathan, help me out here.
As the whitest guy you know, it's me.
I believe that I can dance to any earth, wind, and fire song, and I can dance to a Stevie Wonder, upbeat song as a white person get away with it.
Yes or no?
Yes.
Name some other bands I can get away with.
Of course, Jackson Five.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
Like the boogie song, what's that one?
Bring it on the boogie?
No, bringing on the boogie.
Blaming the boogie, that's right.
Yeah, I can do that one.
What else if you do?
Poison, the song, Poison, you can probably dance to that.
Okay.
You're fine with that.
I want you to come up with songs that as me as a white person can dance to
that you would not be embarrassed for.
Okay, no, I can do that.
I could do that.
I would say the entire 70s disco run I could probably dance to.
Yes, that feel about fair?
Yeah, because I feel like y'all are all.
on some stuff and you know under the disco ball
and stuff. Could I do do the hustle
as a white person in 2026?
Hustle. Do the hustle you heard that song?
Look that up tomorrow.
Hustle? You'll recognize it. You'll recognize it.
It's just the only words in the whole song are do the hustle.
You can do the MC Hammer song? He might not recognize it.
Can I, can I dance to MC Hammer? Yes, get your puffy pants on.
Yeah, you can do MC Hammer.
Vanilla Ice? Yes or no?
Well, yes, you.
What?
By the way, I'd like to use the qualifier attempt to dance.
Oh, no, I think I can do it.
I think I can flat out do it.
Can you dance, man?
Or you got two left feet?
Two left feet.
But I did dance back when I was in high school.
That's when you're a mascot.
You got to build a dance.
No.
Does mascot dance.
A ballroom?
No.
What was the mascot dance?
The ram dance.
What's the ram dance?
You put those horns in and let's go.
Ross looks so disappointed.
I know he is.
Five minutes left to go on the show.
