Today are coming to you from San Francisco, California, where tonight the rockets are going to take on the Golden State Warriors. And you may need to do some prep on your Golden State Warriors because there's going to be some stars that are missing in tonight's game.

They're talking about the families. We're talking about the kids, the patients themselves. it is unbelievable the stress that would obviously come into play if you had a child of yours that was suffering from a life-threatening cancer or whatever the case may be, to be able to go to a hospital and a research facility and have everything taken care of. I mean, literally everything is taken care of. So that's why it's very important for us, and our radio station and our radio cluster here in Houston,

to get behind St. Jude's because it is as awesome of an organization as you think it is. It's got a huge history going back to Danny Thomas many decades ago, and the work continues to be just amazing. So please, and we'll give you that number a couple times, so that's the course of the show, to hopefully you guys can contribute. Now to the sports headlines the day, sports RV, I did make a gut feeling on Tuesday.

You were still gone. I didn't think Al-Zis Al-Shahir's suspension was going to be reduced. I know a lot of people wanted it to. I know a lot of pundits, frankly, around the country were looking to see. it being reduced and yesterday they met the appellate board got together and they said Al Ziz you're going to

miss three games. Surprise, not surprised your thoughts? I would say not really surprised. My prediction was it was going to be reduced by one game but the fact that they upheld it we talked about the very strongly worded from yeah the message from John

was it Runyon? What's his thing? First one? John Runyon. John Runyon. J-O-N by the way, not J-O-H. Oh okay that is very confusing. John Runyon and how strongly worded his message was and how it did feel like an example was being made. He has been a repeat offender. He has been fine before.

So I would say, I thought it might get to, I thought it was going to get reduced by one game, but not really surprised that it wasn't. Yeah. And then Al-Shaier went to his Twitter account, and I guess he went, he kind of embraced the villain card.

I guess, embraced the villain card. I guess so. said if you want a villain, I'm ready to be a villain. I was like, wait, I thought you already were a villain. Tom Brady thinks you're a villain. Roshan Johnson, who you punched in the face, thinks you're a villain. And Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars already think you're a villain. Yeah, I think every Jacksonville fan thinks you are.

Not that there's very many of those, but yeah, again, and then you have people attacking the appellate process of how a ex-Titons player who may have had a couple of dirty shots back in the day when he was playing, and he's a member of the Tennessee Titans radio crew, and this is a guy within the own division. I mean, it felt like yesterday when the decision came down, Rossi, that it was just one conspiracy after the other. It was, this doesn't make sense.

This is wrong. The NFL is not perfect. Frankly, a lot of things the NFL doesn't make any sense. But I feel like if they would have put up, if they had to put the Pope up, Ross, and said, you know, I want you to listen to this. Well, he's Catholic. He can't possibly get this right.

The Pope is truck sticking people? I don't know, but I'm just saying that anybody would have been brought up in front of this. Like, who's the nicest person in the world besides the Pope? Me. They had to put up Ross. They said, you know, Ross. Mr. Rogers. Let's go with Mr. Rogers. He's dead.

He's dead. I don't like he'd be able. Well, okay. We'll see. He's even nicer now. He's not going to hurt anybody. He has true. Like, let's say, let's think about this. Who is the nicest most, uh, commoning most forgiving person in America?

Or in the world, for that matter. We get the Pope. I'm, I just put it in Google. and the first answer was Keanu Reeves. So let's go with Keanu Reeves. Keanu Reeves? I wouldn't have put that on my bingo board, but sure. He made the movie with Sandra Bullock when he was on a bus.

It had to go like a certain miles and hour the whole time. And then they were on a boat and speed two. It's speed, but on a boat instead of a bus. It's speed too. Okay, so Keanu Reeves makes this decision and says, I'll share you're going to miss your three games. Oh, no, you can't have him do it. His speed too sucked.

nearly as good as the first one. That guy's a fraud. Can we just have an honest discussion about this, Matt? Please. People are being homers. If C.J. Stroud got trucked in the exact same way, everybody would be all up in arms about the linebacker that did it,

and he wouldn't be defended nearly as much. Trevor Lawrence started to slide, maybe a little bit late, but Aziz al-Shaheer, he put out his forearm, and it was a conscious decision, in my mind, a conscious decision to try to knock him and hit him as hard as possible, and it's not an accident what happened. It was not an accident. So you're telling me that there

are members of the Houston media that are blind homers to this situation? Correct. Stunned. And frankly, that those blind homers are just wanting to make sure they get their pie at the end of the year from the Texans. And then we can, we can agree that three games seem to a touch heavy-handed. I agree with that. I mean, but the fact of the matter is it was a bad, dirty hit, and it's something that the NFL is trying to eliminate from the league, so there absolutely was going to be a suspension. And here's the thing that's going to be another unpopular.

Was he made to be a main example of? Yep. Yes. That's exactly what the NFL said. We don't want to see this happen. And now, to say it's never going to happen again will be ridiculous, but we don't want to see it happen. And if it has happened again,

we now have a fresh precedence in front of us that says you do this you're going to get a very heavy suspension especially if you have a track record now again what i think has really caused perhaps the most uproar is the fact that john runyon statement a couple of days ago i mean let's let's call let's be honest of it he tore apart the personality the integrity the sportsmanship of al-zis al-sharee and that's why niki see was so pissed off a couple of days ago He went right at him. He said, this is a bad dude, and we're going to let you know that your actions, as a play happened and what happened after the play, plus your history,

we're going to put all that together. We're going to wrap it up like a Christmas gift. We're going to give you a nice gift of a three-game suspension. Yeah. I mean, it was definitely a bit sanctimonious from John Runyon, but I mean... Oh, there's sanctimonious behavior on everybody's side. I mean, everybody at this... And look, this was a very, very...

controversial event that took place. Everybody has an opinion on it, and including the great listeners of this radio show. And if you say this is too harsh of a penalty, I mean, what's for us to say? I mean, you and I don't know what goes into this kind of stuff. Again, if you and I were on this quote-unquote appellate board or you and I were the ones that were making the penalties, I would have said, you know, he got injected from the game and a one game suspension would have felt like the appropriate punishment. I agree.

if they'll thought otherwise so i mean there's only so much that we can do and almost so much we can discuss about it but i just think it's interesting that there are people attacking who the appellate group was who listened to it john runyon and then showing videos of what i mean uh you know i i guess what this is shown to all of us is that everybody has a history and that you bring up anybody to look at this if they had brought up i mean who who would have been the next appropriate person to come in. I mean, is there a perfect NFL player? Is there somebody that just never did anything wrong,

that never got a 15-yard penalty, that never hit a quarterback late, that never formed a player? I mean, I guess there's plenty of them that have done that, but those guys don't want to do what this job is. Being a vice-principle, Ross, is not fun. Who wants to do this? It takes a special person to do this.

And I think especially in defense, you're talking about linebackers and when defenders in general, you got to have a bit of an edge about you to make it to the NFL. I think it's kind of baked into me. Yeah, yeah. 713-212-5-790. I would say if you took a poll that the majority of Houston sports fans probably said this is ridiculous and that he's being made an example.

Well, guess what? That's exactly what's happened. And now the Texans are going to have to play the next three games against two playoff teams for sure. And, I don't know. But it's not a great stretch to be playing what is going to be three games at about 11 days, I think, when the dust settles on this, and then have to do it without a guy that has come in and been pretty good for your football team this year. Should be fresh and ready to go for the playoffs.

Let me ask you this, and we'll talk about this coming back. Is this going to galvanize the team? Losing your best lineback or no? I'd rather have them on the field. Is this the latest round of adversity? We talked about this while you were gone. Okay. because I despise adversity.

Well, nobody likes adversity, Matt. But Rossi, everybody has it. Literally everybody in the world has it. Some people deal with it better than others. I have adversity every day between 10 and 2. Some adversity. And I overcome it. Yeah.

I wanted to fall asleep around 5 p.m. yesterday, but I had to make myself stay up. when's the last time you said I need to go to bed at 5 p.m. Never? I was gonna say. You poor kid. I was dragging, so I had a, yeah, I was just, I don't know, doing anything possible to try and stay up.

Yeah, it's funny because I took a nap yesterday here at the hotel right up for the show, and I was like, I'm taking a nap at 115. It's like, this is pretty good, but then I thought to myself, I've been up since 6.45 in the morning. I'm damn tired, so. But the fight must move on. We are very happy to be with you every day

It's something. I think we've all lost track. It's not fun. It's not great. Andrew Wiggins is questionable with right angle, ankle impingement. Right ankle impingement. Okay.

Rockets will not have Tarees, and tonight, he's the concussion protocol. Fred Van Bleet is questionable with a right knee contusion. Okay. And no word yet on any sort of fine for on IMA Adoka after what he said the other day. Yeah, he was on this show yesterday and said he was waiting to hear pretty soon. Yeah. Now, could the NBA let them get away with it? I don't think so.

I wouldn't think so. You drop an F-bomb and glasses in the same sentence. You're kind of asking for it, aren't you? I don't feel like that's one you let slide as a league. Like, for instance, did you ever have friends of yours that, like, I have a pretty decent silver tongue. You do as well. But there are some people that are, you know, that don't want to get in fights, that don't want to insult you, that you feel like, you know, what, if you get into a barb and start arguing

with somebody, you're going to win because you've got more of a silver tongue than the other person does. I don't think I want to get into a verbal or physical confrontation with the E. Medoca. No, I don't think so. Not me personally. I'm going to go ahead and sit that one out. Because didn't he call

LeBron a soft-ass B? I believe so he did. He just called the second-grade as player in the history of the NBA of soft as B. I mean, that's something special, right? Yeah. Well. I mean, he didn't call some, you know, 13th player in a roster, some scrub of something. He called the, I mean, the all-time winning score in the history of the NBA.

Yes. Also, the most missed shots in the history of the NBA. By the way, they got their ass kick yesterday. Most turnovers in the history of the NBA. But a great player. A fantastic player. Who, they got crushed last night by the Miami Heat. I mean, destroyed.

How's Coach Reddick feeling about that? I don't think he's feeling great. Let me check the old scoreboard here. This is the NBA tote board that last night saw the Miami Heat beat them 134 to 93. 12 and 10 now, the Los Angeles Lakers. What happened? They're off to that hot start, and everybody's talking about how great JJ Redick was. Yep, yep.

But it wants, it's one of those situations now that basically everybody in the world of sports media is like, no matter who coaches the Lakers, it's just, it's LeBron and he runs things. And I don't know if it's necessarily fair for him to do that. Because if you're an alpha dog, you're going to always get that characteristic. But are we saying that LeBron and the people around him are totally unculturable? Is that the trend? Because Eric Spolster was able to coach LeBron James, right? I don't know.

Lou was able to coach LeBron James. I just think they're just not very good as a team. Yeah. I mean, look, I have been critical of certain things that LeBron has done in his life, but I don't think he should be wearing this. I think this is a first-year coach who is learning. the tricks of the trade and it's a lot easier to be a television analyst and talk about how

things are happening as compared to trying to to motivate and draw up plays and try to get a team of a few stars and a few fringe players to play hard every single night. It's just difficult. Yeah, LeBron had 29 points, eight assists, five rebounds in that game. 12, 18

from the field. So not only was the efficient, but he was scoring, but he was efficiently scoring. Yes. He had 29 of their 93 points. I mean, my God. What do you want him to do he's 40 years old sir i mean for all the crazy stuff he says off mike uh he still must watch especially in person mm-hmm because he can still at his age take over a game can you do as much he did 10 years ago of course not but he still but he still can he gives you one to two

wild moments per game he just does even at 40 years old yeah impressive unprecedented yeah All right. More on the Al-Ziz Al-Shay-Ear suspension. We have a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars that said a few things within the last couple days. You talked about how much he loves and supports his ease? I don't believe that would be at the case. That'd be a 100% lie. But you can sell it that way if you want it to. We'll see. We'll hear it. And we'll come back. We've got, I just don't get it at 1130. And mine is a once of year. I just don't get it every time I go to a particular city. And so I'll do that? Do you have an international? flavor if I just don't get it from your trip?

Hmm. We got an hour to think about it. Things ran pretty smoothly over there. It was more of like, I just don't get why we can't have good public transit here in America. Maybe it's a diamond against the United States. How they have it. They're right together and we don't. I guess you can't build underground in Texas or in Houston because of the soil or something like that.

But the subway systems are getting around in those cities so much easier than getting around here. So he had a few comments about Domeko Ryan's after Domeco came to the defense of Al-Zz al-Shayr just a couple of days ago.

Yeah, I mean, that's my brother. You know, I kind of regret. I want to the big things I regret about it is getting ejected, you know, from the game. You know, to be there, you know, for my teammates and stuff like that. But, you know, as far as the whole thing, when, you know, that's my brother. You know, I do the same thing for all 70 guys or however that makeup, you know. Jags organization. So, you know, grand scheme of things,

no, you can't get ejected from the game. That's just something you can't do. And I'm probably going to have a heft to find coming full of that way, you know. D'Amika Ryan, he felt like you guys overreacted. Is that how you think any team would have reacted at their quarterback? I don't even want to talk about that guy. I don't even want to talk about that guy. Interesting.

Hmm. I brought up a question to you a few minutes ago. Did this suspension and the upheld of the suspension, upholding, I guess, upholding you? Mm-hmm. Did that gallant... Is that going to potentially galvanize the Texans' locker room? No.

You think it's net loss of a key defensive player? Yeah. I mean, they've played without them before. They're going to be fine, but... Right, right. I think a lot of times we talk about how this is going to motivate people and all that type of stuff. Like, I think as a practical matter on the field, I don't think it's going to matter much. And, I mean, and also, they have a buy week as well.

Um, yeah, the funniest thing was somebody who was it, Cicero City is going to be gone for a month. I'm like, yeah, again, I don't think he's going to be running to make, to every fast food between the house and the facility for them. I mean, I think he can't be able to handle himself. So you can't be around the facilities when you're suspended at all? I guess not. That's what it sounds like. I mean, he wasn't going to be there this week anyway because it was, you know, that's the off week. So nobody was going to be around anyway.

Mm-hmm. But, yeah, I guess he can't be anywhere near it, huh? It kind of makes sense. If you're suspended, you're suspended. I mean, I know you can't practice clearly, but we can't play, but I didn't know that you could. Like, it's there like a detector says, hey, we're watching over to make sure he doesn't show up to the weight room or doesn't go eat with his buddies? I don't know. What I'm reading just now says they are allowed to practice with teammates.

Then why was there such a big deal made out of him being gone for a month? I guess just the playing time, but that doesn't make any sense. I don't know. Well, obviously, we'll figure it out next week when they start practicing again. Yeah, we'll figure it out. 713-212-5-790 7-1-3-21-2-5-70 we're going to have gorty come in in 1120 today the Chris Gordy the Chris Gordy I mean I know he's busy with God knows how many meetings I've never heard of before with people I've never heard of but he's a busy man yeah I think I think he's I think he's just booking appointments for Memphis radio and Jacksonville well he's got to do that too and then he's he's on Columbia's South Carolina sports leader kind of thing but he's going to join us at 1120 because I don't know how much you spent yesterday looking at Twitter about people are losing their mind over the CFP, this college football playoff, and how you've got all these conference commissioners defending their conference.

Brett Yormark is like, we're the freaking Big 12. We do not deserve a, we deserve to absolutely 100% have a buy in the second round. We're the freaking big 12. And I'm sure the ACC is saying the exact same thing. We're the ACC. This is how do you know how to, BYU, B.SW for the only loss of the year. We've run through run shot, rough shot through all of this.

And if we lose to Clemson, we still deserve to be in the playoff. I mean, everybody is Rossi grandstanding to the umpteenth degree to defend their schools and defend their conferences. It's just going to come across like Sunday you're not going to want to watch anything related to college football because you're going to have so many fan bases. So, like, we got screwed. How are we not in this thing? How did the three-loss team get in? How did our one-lost team not get in?

It's a mess. And I feel like even if you open the tournament up to 60 teams, team 61, 62, and 63 would still be mad that it didn't get in the playoff. Yeah. But, I mean, this is, I said this the whole time, is that even when I thought I was going to go to eight or maybe 12, is that you should not do anything by conference champion. It should just be the top four teams get a buy.

And that's that. It shouldn't be. by because some years you are going to have, particularly the ACC and the Big 12, be weaker than the other two conferences, and they might not be worthy. You might have three or maybe even sometimes four lost teams, depending, come out of those conferences. And then get an automatic buy, I think that's ridiculous. Well, the thing that's making people so upset is that you have teams that are not playing in conference championship games that feel like they've got a better chance to make the playoff because they're not playing with a chance of potentially lose it.

and that has happened before with other teams in the past where you've been actually penalized by playing in your championship game. It's also happened before where there's, let's say, a team that is like 12 and 0 or 11 and 1 is in the conference championship game, and they get upset by a team with three or four losses, then all of a sudden that team gets a buy, and they have all those losses. I mean, I think it's just not fair. Yeah, I don't know what the right answer is. I just know there's going to be a lot of grumpy people whenever that announcement comes up on Sunday

because somebody is going to feel like they got screwed. So even though we expanded from 4 to 12, the angst and upset college football fan, and again, the general college football fan who doesn't have a dog in the fight. Like, for instance, if you're a fan of, I mean, sadly, Houston, I don't care who shows up where. Just give me a good tournament. That's what my philosophy is. Yeah, we run into some basketball, right? It's 68 teams. And then you have coaches coming out talking about how they got robbed and they deserve to be in.

And it's like, okay, if you're the 69th best team, relax, okay? You didn't really deserve to be in. I guess the biggest argument is that Alabama looks like they could be in with three losses. Yeah, I get that. People are losing their mind over that. It's a bad law. 24 to 3 to Oklahoma. Why are we forgetting this?

Yeah. What's their best win? And I think, and I think part of the argument is, too, is that people are saying, what is the college football committee? What's their criteria? you what they're telling us they're going to do one thing but then their votes say another thing and that's why well you know we'll get gordon this is the thing i brought up last week when you were gone when gordon when gorty gets gone it's so fun to listen to he'll be like nice and calm

and then something will come up and then he will raise his voice it's like we don't even need to turn the pot of the volume on gorgie's voice goes up like tenfold it's generally something about alabama then right it's generally something about well he got texas fans got mad at him Uh-oh. What do you say about them? Because he was talking about how Texas his schedule was really soft. Really soft. They beat seven teams in the SEC. Well, but they were the, apparently they were the seven easiest team.

their conference schedule. So I can't, what you have to do is if you have a super soft schedule, like Indiana is a great example of this, Rossi. They had Michigan on their schedule this year at home, but Michigan turned out to be a 500 football team. They didn't expect that going in. They had one opportunity to prove they were worthy of being an elite team nationally, and they went to Ohio State and got their ass kicked.

So that's the only thing that I think when you get the schedule conversation is, If you have a bunch of cupcakes on your schedule, you can't control that. But if you have one good one and you don't show up for that game, that to me shows you that maybe you aren't among the elite and maybe you shouldn't be considered. Because Indiana has all these wins against all these secondary teams, which is fine because, again, they didn't create their schedule. They created their non-conference, obviously,

but they didn't create their conference schedule. And the one chance they had to show who they were, they went to Ohio State and blink the bed. For me, that to me is more of an indictment against Indiana because you had one chance to prove how good you were and you weren't able to do it. That's when it comes to me when arguing about schedule. If you have a good one on your schedule.

And by the way, if you're in the Big Ten, if you're in the SEC, you have to have at least one or two quality opponents. The conferences are too good. You can't literally say that every game that you play in a particular conference, that team sucked every week. It's just not possible. Ask LSU how easy it is to go into Kyle Field and win. Oh, they didn't.

And I think that a lot of teams that were left out, and I am saying, I don't know what you guys know about U.S. defense and, and how many points they give up. But Florida, Florida State's defense is just as bad as theirs. And I don't think that I would like to go into a game watching them play Alabama or whoever they're going to play and end up losing something like 60 to 10 or something. Because when you've got a defense that bad, there's no reason you should be in the playoffs. And then I think at the end it's going to be Oregon and Texas. And the winner of that one will be the champ.

second comment I want to make was about the game on Sunday between the Texans and the Jaguars. If it would have been a running back or a wide receiver that got hit like that, do you think that the punishment would have been as bad? And that's all I'd like to say. So basically what he is saying, Ross, is if that was, let's say that a quarter, a receiver was running, over the middle of the field and he got speared with a forearm and he didn't know it was coming I guess is the question um just a different situation because Trevor Lawrence was giving himself up he was sliding but but if you're but if you're a helpless receiver don't know it's coming

they also treat those very severely too yes but I think they do punish crimes against quarterbacks more you can't hit him high you can't hit them low you I mean if you get them hard a lot of times clean, hard hits on the quarterback get called for Roughen the Passer. Yeah, the reality is this, Ross, and this is our audience as well. The quarterback is the most important player on the football field. It's the most expensive player in the football field. It frankly determines your franchise's future. The NFL has made it a point, and this is no crazy observation,

to make sure they're protected more than any other player in the football field. Yeah. Because there's more invested in those guys. It's not an accident. They drive the product. If you have two good quarterbacks in the field in an NFL game, it's going to be a lot more pleasing to the eye. It's going to get more ratings.

It's going to get more points. It's just going to be a better product. Yep. Yep. So as far as I'm concerned, I think you have to absolutely make sure that they are protected under every circumstance. And that's the reason why they're going to get the benefit of that out more than anybody else. And so let's say that, let's say it was.

Nico Collins that got hit like that against a member of the secondary. There probably would have been an injection. I don't, I'll say this. I guess it also depends on Ross who did the hitting. Because clearly by what John Runyon said and was verified yesterday by the appellate board is that history and previous activities did play a factor in the Alsharearier's three-game suspension. As it should have. I think it should have.

And I think that's why it was three games. You literally punched somebody in the face earlier in this season. Yeah. So what may ask is that why didn't they suspend him at that point for that? I mean, do you basically let guys get away with things for a while and then all of a sudden say enough's enough? Is that how it works? I don't know. So what did he get suspended?

What did he get fined for earlier? The punch. He got fined for the punch against Chicago. But not suspended. But not suspended. I mean, I'm not trying to justify it, because, again, I'm not surprised of the upheld of the suspension. But in his defense, if you are really mad at me for my actions, you're finding me one week, and then a bunch of weeks later, you're saying, well, I'm adding this to the other.

I mean, it's like you're, you know, they don't call me Mr. Analogy for a reason. It's like a lump sum, like a balloon payment at the end? Yeah. Are they accruing penalties and saying, once you get to a certain level, then we're going to ding you a, open the floodgates. He was also fine for a late hit out of bounds of Tony Pollard in week 12. So, yeah, this has been adding up.

You punch somebody, you're fine for a late hit, and then you do this to Trevor Lawrence, get ejected, start a fight, and as the statement said, continue to fight two different times, you're going to get suspended for three games. Yeah. Yeah. So I'm just, again,

to try to figure out how these big organizations, these big governing boards, penalize their people, that's beyond our pay grade. Zizelcher is not the victim here. He's not. Trevor Lawrence is. Well, his Twitter accounts as he is. Yeah, I know that.

Well, now he's the villain. And by the way, Alzis, you probably shouldn't have done it. I just, running the social media to make a point, I don't think more times than that Ross doesn't work out. I don't think there's a level of sympathy that just came over this. This is my villain arc. You were flagged. You were fine for a late hit on Tony Pollard, fine for punching a guy. and now find suspended and ejected for a forearm shiver to the dome of Trevor Lawrence.

It's knocked him out for the season. He's not the victim here. He's not. Well, social media says that, well, social media, the ultimate Texans, Kool-A drinkers are saying that. Well, he's doing what we thought he was going to do. I was a little more surprise that Nick Casario came out as heavy-handed as he was,

dropping BS bombs as well on John Runyon. But the fact of the matter is, there is some history there with Aziz al-Shayor. It continued to happen, and they want to make a statement, and they want to make an example of him. They want to stop this type of activity, so it shouldn't be surprising to anyone that the suspension was completely upheld. and again Aziz O'Shea is not the victim here

And how many times it was replay? How many times it was a thousand times? Which didn't help the cause. But that's what the NFL is. Everything is magnified because it's the most popular sport. You can't get away with anything. Yeah. And I will also say it also looked bad because the way that Trevor Lawrence's head went into the turf

and then he went into the, you know, the limp hand, like fencing response is what they call it, like clearly a brain injury there. If he had gotten right up from it, then didn't, it also wouldn't have been as much of a talking point. So, but the fact of the matter is that doesn't change what Aziz Al Jeyer did. God, and she goes, what happened? I think they just killed Trevor Lawrence. I think he's dead. And so she came over there and looked at it, and she's like, is he not moving? No, he hadn't moved, but everybody's just beating each other's ass. But that was a dirty hit, but to bring up all the old stuff, not to, I'm sorry to disagree with you, Ross, but it should be, if they didn't like him punching that dude in the face or they didn't like him making that other hit, they should have punished him adequately then. Not, okay, let's wait for the next one. Let's wait for the next one. He was fine. He was fine for both of us. Maybe they suspend him a game for one of those.

I don't know, but bringing it all up and piling it on to them into one suspension, whether the league did that or not, it was a media-driven thing. I don't know. It should be one incident, one punishment, not, oh, we're going to stack up all this other stuff. It's not like previous offenders and DWIs. I don't know. Maybe I'm the lone ranger here, but it was a dirty hit. He did deserve a suspension.

Let's do this. Let's go to Ryan's philosophy on this. Then if he would have been suspended for the punch, right? Against Chicago. Yes. Would that have changed the suspension time length yesterday? No. I don't know.

I don't think so. I don't think you would do that because if you get a slap on the wrist for one game, if you do something again, wouldn't you get a larger suspension the next time? I think this is I think frankly you look at it I think Rossi they're lucky he's lucky he didn't get suspended for the punch I absolutely

and I would also say that I think in here one or two games suspension was warranted but you can't cry foul over three games when he's been there's just been accruing this pattern of behavior has continued to happen and the NFL has said enough and you add in that they're making example

and you add in that it was against a quarterback that's just I mean is it fair I would say not completely, but that's also just how it goes. You can't cry victim when you're the one pounding Trevor Lawrence's skull into the ground. Yeah, I know. There's going to, I mean, there's going to be the, was he made an example of? The answer is yes. We can objectively say that.

But I'm telling you, if it would have been C.J. Stroud or anybody else, you'd have been, you know what? Somebody needs to be made an example of. This sort of behavior in the NFL, the way that the hit was applied, has to be stopped. And if somebody has to be the poster child for it, pray and hope it's not one of your favorite players. In this particular case, it was. I mean, honestly, I don't mean to go back to the 2017 Astros, but there were a lot of people that were allegedly cheating. Astros were the ones that got caught. They made examples of.

It happens in all life. In everything. You have people that get in trouble at work all the time and you have to give them suspended or they have to lose accounts. I mean, that's maybe not fair in the world of punishment, but don't you sometimes put out harsh punishments to make sure that the rest of your colleagues and the rest of the world knows that this type of behavior is not going to be accepted? Now, if this happens again, let's say Pat Mahomes gets hit by somebody and it's a similar type situation and there's a similar history and the guy only gets a one game suspension or doesn't get it, then I would definitely say, all right. Maybe there was an agenda against Al Zizasarer. But Rossi, we can't possibly think the NFL office is like, ooh, we got the goods on Aliz. We're waiting for one more little thing for him to do.

And then we're going to really knock him out. We're really going to punish him hard. They all got time for that. No, I don't think so. But I think whoever is putting out these punishes like, this guy again, we got to do something about this. Yeah, the money situation wasn't good enough. And so you think about this, maybe he was, maybe the text. Jackson's caught a break by him just getting fine as compared to the other things.

You can say that, that it all balances out, that maybe he should have been suspended a game for the punch, and then now that's the extra game on here, and it all evens out. Yeah. I mean, I'm not trying to justify it. I'm not. I'm just saying that if you're thinking about this and you're all like, well, wait a minute, they're using all the other things? Well, frankly, if they're using all the other things to spend them now, maybe it saved him from getting suspended earlier this year.

And what are you thinking about what's going to happen this weekend? How I guess the easy question for you is who is going to be really super pissed off this weekend?

I think Miami fans, I think SMU fans. I think if SMU loses, they are out. And so, you know, this is on Clemson who, you know, Clemson's been pretty steady most of the year. They lost the Georgia in the opener. They had a hiccup along the way. But, you know, should have beaten South Carolina last week. They didn't.

But I think this committee's defiance for or insistence that Alabama belongs in, I think is absolutely ridiculous. But, and look, I'm an SEC guy. You know, I'm through and through. I'm cool with the SEC getting four teams in, but I don't think Bama deserves to be in. I mean, they're getting the respect factor. The brand is getting the love just simply because of what they've done over the years. But nobody wants to acknowledge, Nick Sabin's not the coach there anymore. This isn't the Bama teams of years past.

And I'm sorry, but two weeks ago, I just watched them get their ass beat up in Norman, 24 to 3, couldn't find the end zone. It took their third loss. And yet we're still to believe this is one of the 12 best teams of the country. I beg to differ. Okay, so let's go in that room for a second. Tell me on the resume, what makes Alabama a three-loss team in this conversation to begin with. Ch-ching, ch-ching, ch-ch-ching. It's money.

That's all this is. This is to put a brand in that's going to get eyeballs. That's going to create viewership and ratings. No offense, SMU. Ain't nobody watching the ponies. It's BAM. It's Bama. It's the brand.

SMU this will be the biggest game they've had I mean, look, Indiana had one chance to prove to the America. They were good, and they got beat badly by Ohio State who then lost the following week to Michigan. And yet they're still going to get in the playoff. Why is that? Tell me why Indiana gets in over SMU. Because this committee doesn't value strength of schedule. They just value wins.

They don't care that you beat Florida International and Charlotte. They just look at you got Ws. But that's not the case against Alabama, though. I mean, with Alabama. Right, they're getting the love just because of the brand. But he asks why he's Indiana because they're 11 and 1. Okay, Mr. College football, this cannot happen. Alabama, if you're telling me if Alabama has three losses, of which, how many of them are really, like the Oklahoma loss is super bad, right?

The Georgia win is their best win. Okay. And then they beat Missouri when they were ranked and they beat LSU when they were ranked. Their losses were at Vandy, at Tennessee, and at Oklahoma. So, I mean, two of the three losses aren't terrible. Well, Vandy and Oklahoma both finished six and six. So, in my opinion, those are both bad losses. It's funny because Ward Manuel the other night, he was comparing Bam at LSU.

He goes, well, that was three and one against teams in the top 25 currently. And I said, yeah, but what's their record against six and six teams? Oh, and two. Like, why are we not bringing that up? They just ignore that. So Alabama's going to get in once. So if SMU wins, is there any scenario of the teams in front of Alabama, that Alabama with three losses doesn't get in.

Here's the problem where they positioned them. They positioned them at 11. This is what's so stupid about. South Carolina that's won six in a row is nine and three. They just beat number 12 Clemson on the road, and they moved up one spot. Bama turned the ball over four times against a bad Auburn team, beat them 2814, and moved up two spots.

Bama got rewarded for beating a bad Auburn team, so they're 11th. And so you can't move Bama down. I mean, they don't play a game this week. Like, they can't move out of the top 12. In other words, nobody behind them can jump them. Miami doesn't play a game. They can't jump them.

So here's what you need to do. Why don't we tell these conferences not to play these conference championship games, and they're going to like, well, that sounds great and everything, but we're getting paid millions of dollars by these TV networks to play these games. And by the way, we're going to fill up Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte because SMU and Clemson are going to play, and all the Clemson fans are going to come down and root for my team, and we're going to make more money.

So it's frankly, Ross and Gordy, it's a little bit of hypocrisy. These conference championship games are the Antichrist. Well, you're gaining the revenue from it, and you're gaining the TV ratings, and you're getting the money from the networks for it. Well, Lane Kiffon. Which way are you going to have it? Lane Kiffin was on to something. I mean, he made the case a few weeks ago.

Why would we want to play for a conference championship, play another game where I risk injury and all this? I'd rather take the buy week, host a playoff game the next week, and that's what Tennessee is going through right now. Tennessee is like Josh Heaple just wrapped up signing day. they're going through a little bit of practice, they get a little weak to rest, get healthy, like, it's actually a little bit of a benefit. All right, Matt. Time for the news at noon, where we take a look at some of the hot news items of the day. Of course, we've been spending a lot of time talking about the three-game suspension for Aziz Al-Shayr upheld by the NFL and Ramon Foster, the Arborator, picked by both sides or approved by both sides, by the way. So he is going to serve the three-game suspension. Aziz Al-Shayar going to miss that time after knocking Trevor Lawrence out of the game over the weekend. And also, we do have the comments of Jaguars rookie Jerry and Jones. Here's what he had to say about that ejection and an interesting comment about Demico Ryans.

Yeah, I mean, that's my brother. You know, I kind of regret. I want the big things I regret about it was getting ejected, you know, from the game. You know, to be there, you know, for my teammates and stuff like that. But, you know, as far as the whole thing, when, you know, that's my brother. I do the same thing for all 70 guys or however that make up, you know, jazz organizations.

So, you know, grand scheme of things, you know, you can't get ejected from the game. That's just something you can't do. And I'm probably going to have a help to find coming forward. Damico Ryan's, he felt like you guys overreacted. It's not how you think any team would have reacted their quarterbacking it like that?

I don't even want to talk about that guy. I don't even want to talk about that guy, Matt. I cannot. I mean, in the history of Domeico, Ryan's, Could you imagine this? Do you think D'Amico Ryans has five enemies in his entire life? Well, he's got at least one in Jerry and Jones. I have like five enemies in the last hour.

He's had maybe five in his life, but Jerry and Jones is one of them. Gosh, that was, I don't even want to talk about that guy. But, D'Mico Ryan's is just taking up for his guy. Did you hear any comments from D'Amico Ryans that really made you think he was out of line or anything like that? No, I know. Actually, I did. was not happy with the way he basically said that Jacksonville overreacted. Oh, that's true.

I do have a problem. It wasn't an overreaction, but. I didn't like that he was trying to place more of the blame on Trevor Lawrence on Monday than he did on Sunday after the hit. That wasn't very important. I don't, honestly, and I think D'Amico is an excellent football coach, and the Texas made the right decision 100%. And I'm very happy with the future of this organization. But I think he was wrong. I think he was, I think he took two missteps in this situation.

Elsewhere in the news, your thoughts on the Texas Longhorns, according to 24-7 sports, also on three sports, the number one recruiting class in all of the land in Austin, Texas. I got a question for you. First of all, congratulations. Second, do you think that we should publicly know how much money was spent on each NIL class? Well, it's funny you say that because On 3 is kind of the new kid in town with recruiting websites and stuff like that,

but they put the average NIL spending on each recruit and next to their scores. Yeah. Do you want to know the average for the Longhorns NILs all 24 signings? All right, this is every position, right? This is from everywhere from linemen to wide receivers to quarterbacks, right? And are they guessing, or they have firm knowledge? I don't know how firm their knowledge is, quite frankly. That might be more question for Schmish Morty, the resident college football expert here.

I think these are estimates. I'll say $250,000. $215,000. Look at you. Okay, I wouldn't that. For Texas. Alabama, they have the average recruit at $280,000. Same thing about for Michigan.

you got to step up your NIL game, Matt, because they have the University of Houston Cougars at the number 43 class, average NIL per sinee, $45,000, Matt. $45,000, huh? Come on now. You got those rookie numbers in this racket. Let me tell you, when this stuff comes out, that's going to affect future recruiting classes, doesn't that?

I would say so. And by the way, you need to get those numbers up, and there seems to be a pretty direct correlation between highest recruiting classes and highest average NIL scores, or money. Then let me be real with you then. If Texas makes 100 times more money than U of H does, which is probably the truth, how the hell are we ever going to compete with them? We're not.

When did they ever? But I mean, at least when you didn't have N.I.M. money, you could say you could come here, you can be in Houston. Yeah, but then the recruits are getting people. paid by Texas and whoever else under the table. Let's be real, Matt. The Cougars have never won a football championship ever. That's so we don't cheat.

We didn't believe in cheating. Well, then you were trying. I don't know. This NIL, what it did basically is it gave the Super 100 athletes a lot of extra cash. And then it kind of just took care of some guys middle of the road. I mean, mid-major guy guys? I mean, right? Yeah, at least they're getting 41K instead of nothing.

But it's always been a part of college sports. I started, when I went on my long flights, I brought a book with me. It's a book about Jim Thorpe, you know, playing college football. This is in 1907 and like 1908, the players were being played, paid under the table. 1908, the players were being paid. So, wait a minute, you went on this long-ass flight. Yes. And you read a book about Jim Thorpe?

I mean, who else is not necessarily... But Boise State getting into the playoffs is not going to help their NIL. Indiana, SMU. You've got some teams that are maybe wouldn't normally be in the picture that are now with the expanded playoffs. All right. No, and of course, the number one team is Oregon Phil Knight. It's the Oregon Phil Knights.

Who, by the way, said just a couple days ago, I've got blank checks. Whatever it takes, fill it out. Right. And then you got the Oregon. the Oracle CEO's wife saying, I'm a Michigan fan, blank check Michigan. Get, take LSU recruits away by overspending. No salary cap, no pay scale.

Who wants those jobs, by the way, because it felt like a lot of the criticism from our, from Texans fans have been like, why is John Runyon making this decision? Why is the analysts on the sideline for the Titans, the arbitrate, the guy that looks at the appeals process? These are not fun jobs. I wouldn't think so.

No, I think these players, these coaches, these general managers want players that have played the game, right? I think so, yeah. Because they can say in the heat of the battle, you were there, you know exactly what happened.

I get why people are because people are homers and they want to defend Azizal Shere and he's our guy and all that stuff. I mean, you can cry a little bit foul on an extra game or two, but look at the play.

Look at the history. Look what happened. Completely understandable, the punishment that has been meted out by the NFL. So let's take this to the next step. I do believe the competition committee is going to look at plays like this. And there's this notion of it. I think Tom Brady has brought this up. I think a lot of other defensive players who brought this up, certainly D'Amico Rions did, about the slide.

and it's it's the attempt of the quarterback to get that one extra yard and look you and i have never taken a snap before so we don't even know what it would entail but do you want to guess ross how do you how do you know when to take the appropriate slide how do you know when to give yourself up and i don't have an answer for that so for me to try to even guess what the answer would be would be would be foolish on my part i do think eventually there needs to be a punishment because like pat mahomes is is a repeat offender of the fake slide. He acts like he's going out of bounds, then he cuts up field. Josh Allen has done it a bunch as well,

and sometimes guys do try to take advantage of that. It was it famously in college at Pitt. Kenny Pickett did it, the fake slide. Like, you can't do that. That should be illegal. There should be some sort of penalty against that because it's just affording too much to the offensive side of the ball.

But at the same time, there was no fake slide from Trevor Lawrence. He got down maybe a touch late, but it's not like he was trying to do anything outside of the rules of engagement in football. Yeah, I don't know. And maybe it's because there was no juke or he wasn't trying to fake slide and then take off for five more yards. No, no. I don't know. I mean, the number one thing that I'm hearing is that maybe, I mean, how do you prevent,

if you were to say quarterbacks don't do this to our defensive players, it's not fair because they're the ones running full speed, then what is the quarterback supposed to do? Does somebody have the definitive answer to this? Yeah, get him a little white flag and he can throw it on the ground and he's down. I don't think so. How about he taps his helmet? Because if you're in the middle of the field, you can't go to the sideline.

I mean, you're, you're, you're, it's easier to send than done. And if you're running a full momentum, you can't just like stop and take a knee. It's just, it's just tough. It's this, we keep talking about legislating the, making less violent, sport that is inherently violent. Yeah. I really, and look, you have to understand folks, the NFL is thinking about this all the time. Now, whether they're doing anything about it and thinking about are two different things.

But they have to protect the quarterback. They have to protect the quarterback at every single level because it's the most valuable position. There's more money being spent on that one position than anything else in professional football. and honestly, look at the number of backups that are playing Rossi right now. I know James Winston's got a little bit of a resurgence, but James Winston still do who James Winston is. He throws three touchdowns, he throws three interceptions.

Do you want Mac Jones playing 15 weeks to season? No. No, you don't. Do you want Garner, menschew getting significant playing time? No. You're paying for your stars, and they're going to be protected unlike anybody else. And even though Trevor Lawrence has been, I think, to me largely disappointing,

he's still a guy that is considered the most important part of that Jacksonville Jaguars franchise. If the Jaguars are to be good in the next couple of years, they need Trevor Lawrence on the field. Mac Jones is never going to get them there. Just like in the Texans case, if C.J. Strada was to go down for any length of time, the Texan season is over. Because

Money Mills is not money. Yeah, it's totally understandable. It's unfair in ways, how they protect the quarterback, how you can't hit them, and all that type of stuff. But the NFL at the end of the day is about making money. And by making money, you put a good product on the field. You get a lot of points. And by that, you need quarterbacks. So what if he dove? What if he instead of slid?

Doe forward? Yeah. And then, and so then, again, I'm far from a football exes and nose. So Al-Shahir gets to Trevor, and Trevor dives. Then you're talking about forearm to head. So you're not really avoiding what you're trying to do here. You're thinking the slide prevents the legs going down so the player can go after the legs as compared to the shoulder pads and above, right? Yes. Because I'm trying to empathize with the defensive player. The easiest argument is what is he's supposed to do? He's supposed to pull up there or not lower the boom on him.

And I do believe, Ross, if we took games, we walked. Watch slides. We are seeing more players pulling up. Are we not? We are seeing it. That's a thing. Like, I think we are analyzing.

We're looking at this one tree and being like, oh, man, you know, as far as against the forest is the tree. Theology I'm making it. You're looking at this one tree and we're like, man, he, you know, what is he supposed to do? But we see this 100 times every week and players do pull up. They do have the capacity to win a player slides. They don't just do what Aziz al-Shahir does. their quarterback slide a hundred times a weekend. And what Aziz Al-Shahir did is out of the ordinary.

The University of zero consequences. Zero consequences for what? Throwing bottles on the field. Oh. I didn't condone that activity. Did you think I said it was, did I say it was awesome for them to throw bottles on the field? No, but you support Texas

and I just, I don't support everything that they do. I don't support the fans and the student section, yeah, throw it. It was embarrassing. It was a terrible look for the program and for the students and apparently come out that they're not going to be punished at all, which is kind of surprising me. That's crazy to me. That's absolute

insanity that they are unable to identify any of the perpetrators. Come on, man. Anyway, I'm just trying to bust your chops a little bit, but like, as far as this Trevor Lawrence thing goes, as soon as I saw it happen, like the second I saw it happen, my brain went, there needs to be a halo rule. That's the only way

that you can, like, solve this entire problem. It has to be a halo rule. I'm thinking the best way to do it is five yards after the line of scrimmage, same as you would do a legal contact with a receiver. After a quarterback is five yards beyond the line of scrimmage, if a defender gets close to them within like a one yard, two yard halo, the play is over. Quarterback gives himself up. Nobody needs to touch each other, nothing, just end the play. Otherwise, you're going to have this. Because I don't think that Aziz really did anything that bad. I don't think that the leading with the, what was he supposed to do? Was he supposed to be like a centaur and go in with his chest?

I mean, once you're one-year- One-year-quest, Steve, let me ask you a question just for a second. Alex, excuse me. How many football, do you watch a lot of football? I mean, during the season, yeah. I mean, I'm not going out of my way to. Yeah, no. But I mean, when you watch a football game, are we seeing slide like this all the time in the NFL? The answer is, of course, we are. We're seeing this on a very regular basis. quarterbacks are taking the opportunity to give themselves up. How many times are we seeing these types of vicious hits? We're not seeing them very often, to be brutally honest.

That's the thing. The outlier is the quarterback that decides he wants to get an extra yard or two. All of the other quarterbacks that we don't have this problem with, all of the other incidents of the slides that don't have this issue, the quarterback has given himself up. The defender has time to acknowledge, okay, this play is about to be over because he's sliding, and I can see it. and my brain is processing it.

Trevor got what he deserved, dude. If you're trying to get that last yard, what? Yes, 100%. He didn't know. You're not watching the same thing the rest of us are watching. You are in the minority on this.

The NFL who does this for a living is saying you're completely wrong. Completely. I disagree. I disagree. Look, whenever you're running the ball and you see the defender coming. Where do you see the logic in what you're saying is what the majority of people are seeing.

I think that Trevor waited too long to slide. If you don't want to get hit, slide sooner. You've got to protect yourself. It's just like you put yourself in that situation and bad things happen, right? You're one of those kids with a broccoli hair and you go to those car takeovers where they take over the middle of the intersection

and start drifting and you get hit by a car. You brought that on yourself, dude. You put yourself in a bad situation and bad things are going to happen. you wait until the very end to slide, you're going to get hit. If you don't want to get hits, hit the ground faster. Stop trying to get that last yard. I can't believe that Trevor Lawrence is saying,

you know what, what can I do to get the one extra yard, that every other quarterback is not thinking the exact same thing? Isn't every quarterback trying to get every yard humanly possible then to start the slide because he feels like this is the spot to do it? Are you telling me that Trevor Lawrence has a different philosophy about the slide than other quarterbacks who slide on a weekly basis and don't get hit like that are going through? Is that?

Well, then he executed it poorly. I don't know. I don't know what to tell you. I don't know what to tell you. Is the National Football League who watches this stuff over and over again completely disagrees with what your sentiment is? It does not see the same thing you're seeing. Well, yeah, they have an investment to protect.

They're definitely more interested in the financial side of it than the competitive side of it. The fact of the player's safety side of it. I mean, again, I'm watching, you're telling me that every single game that doesn't have this problem is because the quarterbacks no one to start to slide earlier. You're telling me that Trevor was the outlier on this? I don't believe it to be accurate. But that's just me. I mean, it's just, it's a fact.

No, it's not a fact. No, no, no, no. It's not a fact. The fact is the National Football League looked at this probably five, hundred times and said the way that Al Shaiar went after him with the forearm, with the slide in play, was illegal and forced an ejection and a subsequent suspension. That's the fact. Well, there's not a whole lot to argue on that point.

I mean, it is what it is. Al Shoyer hit him. Al Shire led with the elbow or the forearm or whatever. But at the same time, if you watch this thing in slow motion, Trevor starts his slide after Al Shai Yars kind of already convinced. committed to hit him. And at the same time, if you're going down and I'm going forward to to make a tackle or to make a hit, what am I, how, how was Al Shiree you're supposed to hit him? His options were leave with the helmet. So answer my question, why are other, why are other players

in the National Football League able to do this? And Al Shire couldn't do it. Because they get down faster, bro. But that's, it's that way. Wait, you're, you're paying with, you're telling me that every single quarterback except Trevor Lawrence goes down, probably the right time every single time. I don't believe it to be accurate. I can't believe that Trevor Lawrence all of a sudden said, I'm going to be rogue about this, and I'm going to try to circumvent the system and use it for my advantage.

Yeah, because Trevor Lawrence is well known for making great decisions on the field, right? Now you're just generalizing. I mean, come on. I mean, you're not. Matt, he made a bad choice. He made a bad choice in that moment. As he said he made a bad choice.

He took his forearm and wanted to hurt him in the head. That's the bad choice. That's the bad choice. Absolutely. Al Shah, you're definitely, if he could go back, he probably wouldn't do it the same way. But I would hope not. Trevor,

yeah. Trevor waited until the very last second to get down. I don't believe that. I don't think anybody sees it that way. I think, I think, and thank you for the phone call, good debate. I think diehard Texans fans are seeing it that way. I think nobody else is seeing it that way. You say, well, I loosen to Mark Schiller.

They're her time. Look, that's what I'm saying. It needs to be reviewed. But what is indisputable is that this is happening, these types of plays are happening week in and week out in the NFL. And we're not running into these situations. Unless you're telling me, unless you're telling me every single time that quarterbacks are on the NFL are sliding at the appropriate time

and that Trevor Lawrence is wrong. If you're guaranteeing me that, then I will change my stance. but if we sat there and took a stopwatch and watched 30 other games, are you telling me that Trevor Lawrence took liberties that other NFL quarterbacks don't do? If you're telling me that, then, okay, it's Trevor Lawrence's fault. I just can't see that. I just, I don't see where you're putting the onus on Trevor Lawrence to go, well, take it as you are earlier.

It's your fault. I just, I can't find blame in Trevor Lawrence. I can't. Just like I wouldn't find blame of C.J. Stroud. I mean, if other fans, well, you know, because C.J. Stroud likes to run. It's not a favorite part of his game, but he'll do it if necessary. If you all really think that Trevor Lawrence is the guilty party in this, I'm just seeing it differently than you are. And thankfully, I got the NFL side on this one.

I got an appellate board on my side on this one, and I got the NFL review committee on it. And I've got other games where this doesn't happen. This is not happening on a weekly basis. This is not happening every single week. Is it happening before? It will happen again, yes. But there are way too many other games that you can watch on a Sunday where a quarterback slides,

and maybe some are trying to get the extra, maybe they're not. But we're still seeing the defensive players' ability to avoid such collisions. Ross, do you want anything else? There's a large part of me that says you're asking a defensive player to go full throttle to go make a stop on a player and then all of a sudden he has to figure out a way to give himself up to make sure he avoids it. I mean, it seems like it would not be the easiest thing in the world to just turn it off and on like we were talking about a minute ago.

But the reality is, Ross, the quarterback is the most important player in the football field and the NFL is going to do everything in its power to protect them. Yeah, the way that you make the NFL as a defender or a linebacker is you have a lot of instinct. You fly around the field and there is a certain defensive edge. A lot of players have, at least like Aziz al-Shahir, one of the nicest, you hear, all the beat writers talk about one of the nicest human beings on the planet. But when he steps in between those lines, he has an edge about him and he needs to have that edge. That's how you get to this success. That's how you get to this level. And it is very difficult to turn off.

And I do sympathize with Aziz al-Shahir. And I understand what people are saying about, you know, certain quarterbacks like Pat Mahomes and Josh Allen, who we've brought up and others, who kind of fake slide. And I do think that there needs to be something, the league needs to address that and do something about it. But at the end of the day, Trevor Lawrence didn't fake slide. Could he have? Maybe. But until we have some evidence that he's going to do that all the time, if you see him pulling up, you have to do the same. and rather than doing that, Aziz al-Shahir, in my opinion, he accomplished what he was trying to do.

He was trying to knock Trevor Lawrence out of that game. Because again, let's do this. If you're going to put the onus on the quarterback, is the official supposed to say, ladies and gentlemen, that hit was legal. In my opinion, Trevor Lawrence tried to take an extra yard. I don't see how that could possibly happen. I don't see how you could regulate that in the middle of a,

football game. When was he supposed to slide? Too late of a slide. Offense number seven. Ten yard penalty. I mean, I don't know. Yeah, a few years ago, the NCAA with that fake slide that Kenny Pickett did, which was more egregious than what we've seen as well,

they said once you start to go down like that, the play is dead. The play needs to be blown dead. And they need to do the same thing in the NFL. I would agree. Charles, on 7 out of 8.151. I grew up in an era where you had players like Jack Tatum and those guys who literally tried to decapitate a man when they hit him. And that was kind of what I saw. I mean, did Trevor Lawrence slide late? Absolutely. Would it have been tough to stop and not hit him at the point where he did? Absolutely. but if he hadn't been loading up, getting ready to decapitate him, it wouldn't have been a personal foul, in my opinion.

It seems like every time the Lions

play, they get another two or three guys injured on the defensive side, and the Packers have their injuries as well. So, look, here's what people may think of. You think of the Lions as a poor, as a good run defense, which they are, a bad pass defense, which

is true, and they play a lot of man coverage. Christian Watson, going to score tonight. It's going to find a 50-yard bomb. Don't Havian Wicks is going to play well tonight. I don't love Jane Reed. He might be the receiver I don't like because he thrives again, zone coverage, which the lions don't tend

to play. So keep an eye on love, keep an eye on Christian Watson, keep an eye on Wix. On the other side, Amal Raus, St. Brown, this is his game. He's going to be fantastic tonight. And of course, we love the Lions running game. And if you have Jared Gough, you start Jared Gough. All right, that game is

indoors Detroit. We saw the weather situation last week between San Francisco and Buffalo, and we're going to start focusing on that. Look, we're always looking at weather forecast. But tell me about how last week turned out for both of those teams. It didn't feel like it impacted Buffaloes when it came to fantasy. Is that correct?

No, not at all. I mean, look, Josh Allen did something. It was pretty amazing, right? He caught a pass. He threw passes. He ran. He did everything. And so did James Cook.

They had traction. It was like they knew the right cleats to wear. Sometimes when teams don't play in this type of weather, they have to change their cleats at halftime. You do that. You're down by 20 points at halftime. The game is over. So the bills are really a great regular season team. We know that.

It's in the playoffs where they tend to fail. Maybe that changes this year. I hope it does for their sake. I'd like to see Josh Allen go far. I mean, right now, San Francisco, I'm going to give you a guy. If Isaac Garendo is available, you have to pick him up ASAP. First of all, we know McCaffrey is out. Jordan Mason is going to be placed in the IR any minute now.

Garendo's their starter, and he's going to get 25 touches. He ends up bad, bad Chicago run defense. Speaking of bad, the Jets are horrific. Aaron Rogers is worried about maybe, not a minute publicly, but privately about his future. Is there any possibility he wants to build the resume the last couple weeks of the season to make him, whether he's a jet next year or somewhere else that he's got it left? And does that mean, because we've got some biweeks, last week of biweeks this week. Any thought of sneaky Jets numbers spiking this week?

I like what you're thinking. I like where you're going with that. I think Aaron Rogers may play one more season. I don't think he's playing in New York for one more season, but I do think he's playing for one more season. I don't know where he ends up, but you may be right. This is a time to pad the stats, maybe get another, I don't know, seven, eight touchdowns the rest of the way,

which means he could get two this week. I think the dolphins are a better team, but I think the dolphins are, there was rumors that after the game, after they got shallacked against Green Bay, that they're doubting Mike McDaniel. So this is a big referendum game. What's going on with Miami?

What's going on with the Jets? Could be a little messy. I tend to stay away from messy games for fantasy. But Jono Smith is fantastic. Devana Chan is fantastic. I'm going to fade Waddle. I'll play Tyree Kill. On the other side, give me all the Garrett Wilson I can find.

And of course, Breeze Hall. I know Kirk Cousins wants to go back to Minnesota and prove that they should have spent the money on him, whether that was ever going to happen or not. tell me what it's like for quarterbacks and revenge games going to the place they were last season and what do you expect between Atlanta and the Vikings? You know I love a revenge narrative. I just don't know if it fits here. Cousins is not mobile and the Vikings are going to blitz them.

And if there's anybody that knows Kirk Cousins is Brian Flores. And I think the problem is Kirk Cousins is a master against man coverage. Vikings throw a lot of blitzing and they have a lot of zone coverage. It's just not a great fit for him. I would think, I'm going to say this. I'm going to give you a bold statement. If they lose this week, Michael Pennix may be the starter next week. Whoa.

Yeah, it's possible. Look, Kirk Cousins' last three games, zero touchdown, six interceptions. You don't make the playoffs that way. And the Falcons see themselves as a playoff team. I think most people see them as a playoff team. You're bringing cousins. You bring him Matt Judon, and your team is, you know, mid. It's a 500 team.

Michael Pennix, got mobility, and he's got a laser beam for an arm. So maybe you give him a shot. your takeaways from Cleveland to playing that game Monday night in Denver. James Winston, big yards, big touchdowns, also through some picks. In terms of teams that are under 500, not going to the playoffs, but could be sneaky acquisitions. We want to load up on Cleveland players, or is that Pittsburgh defense so stout that they're going to have a tough time putting up yards against them? I think there should be a ride at Universal called the James Winston Experience, right? It just takes you up, it takes you down, takes your left, takes your right, kind of makes you crazy.

because the dude'll throw for 350 yards, he'll throw for three touchdowns, and he'll throw for three interceptions, two of which are pick sixes. But there's something about him. Guys love him. They play hard for him. He's not afraid to throw it,

as a lot of quarterbacks are. I think James is playing for a starting job somewhere. And it may just very well be back in Cleveland. Deshaun Watson's never right again. So, look, if there's any guy on this slate who can throw for 350 yards this week, his name is James Winston. I think he got to give him a,

shot. I know Pittsburgh's got a good defense, but I don't know if it even matters. I think James doesn't stop throwing regardless. All right. I think there are better games than you think they are. Seattle against Arizona, the winner of that game could be the NFC West champion. The Bills and Rams, bills want to get a buy, and the Rams are clinging on to their

playoff hopes. But I can give you some love in the other games. Sequin Barclay, want to be the MVP? Put up 180 yards and two touchdowns on the Panthers. Buccaneers, you want to make the playoffs, you better win at home. And Brock Bowers may be one of the first. the greatest tight ends we've seen. I mean, what a rookie season for this, dude. I can watch him all day. And the Jaguars Titans, look, it's the Calvin Ridley revenge narrative game. And look, the Jaguar

stink. But Will Levis has actually been better. And Tony Pollard has been sensational. Between Pollard and Ridley, there's elements of something going on in Tennessee. They just need more stability, better defense. But, I mean, that game could surprise me higher scoring than people think. Sunday afternoon, the Bears are at San Francisco. The Niners have to be the most underperforming team right now in the NFC. I know Purdy has been in and out, but they look like, they look listless against the bills. Again, the weather didn't help the cause. They've got to basically play perfect football the rest of the way, I think, to win that division.

So does that mean we should stack heavy against the Bears, against the Bears, or do we want to stay away from their defense? Well, look, I'm more interested in watching the Bears this week than I am the 49. because the bears are playing a little better, got rid of their coach, right? Mattieberfluss, who basically lost them that game on Thanksgiving. You know, this new coach is saying all the right things, and I think they're going to come out and play for him. And if they do, San Francisco's right for the picking. Everybody's injured on San Francisco.

It's hard to watch them right now. So look, am I interested in Caleb Williams? I am. Am I interested in DeAndre Swift? Yes. Am I interested in DJ Moore? Absolutely. So I think there are bears you can play in fantasy.

On the other side, I mentioned Isaac Arendo, you play him. George Kittle, you play him. Debo Samuel, you play him. And Juan Jennings has been really good. I don't like the matchup for him stylistically in terms of they play a zone coverage that he doesn't thrive in, but he's been really good thus far this year and it's hard to bench him at this point. All right, Dallas has got a couple wins under their belt. They still can't do anything at home.

Bengals have underperformed big time as well. How does, I mean, I always look at the numbers for the board. Bengals, and they're putting up huge numbers, but they're not scoring victories, but for fantasy football purposes, we don't care about that. So do we remain bullish on all the Bengal players going to Dallas this week? I think we remain bullish on this game in its entirety. So first of all, Zach Taylor could get whacked. And is his fall entirely?

I don't know, but the defense is bad. I mean, even Jamar Chase said that the offense feels like it has to score every time they have the ball if they want to win. So you're starting Joe Barrow. You're starting Jamar Chase. you're starting T. Higgins, you're starting Chase Brown, who's been a revelation this year. On the other side,

would you be shocked if I told you Dallas has an outside chance of making the playoffs? I mean, they got three games, Cincinnati, Carolina, and Tampa. If they win these next three games, yeah. Then they have Philadelphia and Washington in the last two games.

If they go one and one, they might actually make the playoffs. Cooper Rush has been good. I think you play him. Rico Dowdell has been great. I think you play him. And C.D. Lamb and play. And then Jake Ferguson is coming back this week. I expect him to play.

Cincinnati has been horrific against tight ends. And Jake Ferguson could be a sneaky start too. So I think if you want to talk about explosive games, if you have any players left on Monday night, you could win your week this week. All right. These are two teams that like to hold the ball, a lot of time of possession. I don't see this being a boom Herbert week, but, man, Baker Mayfield, in a game that the Buccaneers have to win

against the Raiders, a West Coast team coming in to play. play the early spot. I love Baker. I love, I love Irving. You know, the problem with Tyrone Tracy is as much as I think he's been a good player, all of a sudden, Devon Singletary was starting last week. He was way too involved for my liking. So, Bucky and Baker. Yeah, I picked up Devin Singletary, and he did nothing for me. I appreciate it anyway. John and Conroe on 7-90. Hi, John. Hey, how's it going, guys? Good.

But, you know, look, I'm not going to gripe here, but I will. Do you ever see some of the shots that some of these other quarterbacks take and they don't get calls? I mean, James Winston was crushed on a play on Monday night. right, nothing. If that happened to Patrick Mahomes, I mean, forget about it. There's 17 penalties

being called on that. So I don't want to complain like that, but the Chiefs get every call. And look, Mahomes does. It's third and ten, and he doesn't throw what he's running for 14 yards. differential, minus 9.3 point differential, both second worst in the league. The Titans are terrible. They do get the Jaguars this week, but right now, the fourth worst team in the NFL. It's like deja vu. It's a lot twice in a row, shooting ourselves in the foot. Yeah, I know. You don't want to do that well. All right, Jacksonville Jaguars got down big.

They did rally against the Texans, but at the end of the day, the squad has lost five games in a row. They've only won twice on the year. Add into that, Trevor Lawrence, now out for the year, although Mac Jones looked pretty solid. Trevor Lawrence has been bad, so maybe things will get better for them. But looking like another high draft pick, they do have. a soft schedule coming up. Two games against the Titans, match up against the Jets,

Raiders, and Colt, but no point in trying to win any of those games. They should be playing for the highest possible draft big because they are terrible. They are the third worst team in the NFL.

Bad news, though? Well, team only has two wins on the year. No quarterback of the future. They're also a league worst minus 18 in turnover margins. Statistics do show that turnover luck can flip from year to year, so they have that in their favor,

but right now they are terrible. Only two wins, and they are the second worst team in the NFL. Yeah, radas suck. All right, let's keep it moving. Things continue to sink lower and lower and lower for the New York Giants. They've now lost seven games in a row. They've gone from Daniel Jones to Tommy DeVito, the Drew Locke, and it doesn't matter.
