Starting point is 00:00:01 Lunch timers. This is the Matt Thomas show. 10-02 and H-Town. Good morning. And welcome to a Friday edition of the Matt Thomas show with Ross. This is Sports Talk 790. You sure doesn't have any flab at all? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:00:20 I haven't seen the man's shirtless? It's good. Picks? You haven't seen his picks? Where's pecks? We don't call him Irvin. His name is Magic Johnson. Well, in the 80s, it was magic.
Starting point is 00:00:31 Until. And nobody ever says anything. I'll let it slide. He's just looking for a clean, germ-free studio for a few hours. Well, guess what? Poor Wexler. There's been sucking on that microphone forever. I've been wiping it down every day.
Starting point is 00:00:43 Ball sack sports? Are you sure? I mean, come on. Where's your head? No, I'm not touching that. He was looking for length. He didn't get the length, but he got the girth. How old is he again?
Starting point is 00:00:53 29? 28. 28? Yeah, he's still in that range. He still can get it. What a terrible use of context there. Just terrible Because I got news for you
Starting point is 00:01:10 In the 30s you can get it In the 40s you can get it In the 50s you can get it It takes a little more work But you still get it I don't normally do this On this beginning of this segment Can I hear that one one more time
Starting point is 00:01:23 How old is it again? 29? 28 28 Yeah he's still in that range He still can get it That's so good I think you're a
Starting point is 00:01:38 talking about contracts. We were talking about... We were talking about... I think we were talking about Kyle Tucker, yeah, yeah. And of course, you figure out some common way to make it
Starting point is 00:01:47 something that should be... I know it's Connor. Speaking of it... I think I looked at him when you said that. Yeah. You brought up a statement today before the show started that is 100% true.
Starting point is 00:02:01 By the way, good morning. It is a Matt Thomas show Ross. Hey, it's in anything goes Friday. It's anything goes Friday. We must preface. And we will expect... a lot of the show today, but right now, we're out of the get-go. One of us last night went to the rodeo cook-off, and one of us did not.
Starting point is 00:02:17 Yeah. I'm not a huge rodeo cook-off person because if I'm going to have some beverages and enjoy myself, I want to have sports on and stuff. I'm not a big stand-around, just drink guy. Okay. Well, you got to dance, Matt. You drink, you eat, you dance. You do a lot of walking.
Starting point is 00:02:34 A lot of walking. Yeah, you look, I mean, you look okay, all things considered. I didn't throw up, so I'm feeling all right. I would say 45% hungover, so not that bad. Okay, well, you know what? I usually wake up thinking about what percentage you are hungover and 45 feels like a low number for you today. So that's really good. But you did bring up a statement that absolutely is 100% true.
Starting point is 00:02:55 Go ahead. People compare Houston to other cities for a lot of things. Whether it be the food, whether it be the arts, the social scene, the downtown vibe. traffic, food choices, a variety of things. One of the things we do very, very well in Houston is if you're a very attractive female, you tend to come out to the rodeo cookoff. Yes. Because my friends that are Instagram friends, Facebook friends, your reports from last night,
Starting point is 00:03:33 apparently the hottest of the hottest women last night were at the rodeo cookoff. and it feels like that's the situation. With very few exceptions, yes. I don't know why or how. I mean, I guess it's the exclusivity of the event. And you have to know somebody who has a tent and you have to, and you go down there and you get in your full cowgirl, cowboy wear. It's the most Instagramable night of the year in Houston.
Starting point is 00:03:58 Yes. And it's all the beautiful people in Houston come out. And you're just sitting there going, wow. Whoa. Like I have a lot of friends that are between. seven and at nine. You know when you're at... And they all got bumped the tens.
Starting point is 00:04:11 When you know when you're at Traborski's in a bar and like a really hot girl walks by and you kind of make eye contact and you give like the... Mm-hmm. You do that about 450 times minimum an hour at the cookoff. So you had a hard time walking yesterday. I wouldn't say that. No, I didn't have my trapper keeper covering me while I was walking, Matt, like in eighth grade. You did that too, huh?
Starting point is 00:04:40 Mine was a bigger spiral. Oh, okay. I thought you had a pocket Bible. So, congratulations to you, the beautiful people of Houston. And I'm sure that women are talking with their girlfriends today about this exact same thing. Like, oh, do you see those hot guys last night? Maybe not. Were there good-looking guys hanging out last night?
Starting point is 00:04:59 Usually the nines are with like some random dumpy-looking guy who probably makes a lot of money and oil and gas. We don't stereotype here on the show, but we just did. Am I wrong? So again, 7.5s, 8, 8, and a half, 9s, all were tens last night. They were all there. Go to your Instagram account and you'll see the evidence. And go to your Facebooks too. It's good.
Starting point is 00:05:22 So I'm glad you're a good time. It was a good time. Thanks to Sam from Big City Winks for having me out. We love Sam. Sam's good people. All right. On the radio program today, we have a brand new feature at 1130. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:36 possibly. It's like a pilot episode. We're going to try it. Yeah, pilot episodes. Now, it has been done elsewhere in the marketplace many, many, many, many years ago. Okay. And I got clearance from this person earlier today. I said, hey, has the, what do you call it?
Starting point is 00:05:54 Statute limitations? He goes, well exceeded that. Or the trademark expired? Right, whatever, yeah. So we're going to do something. And I wanted to find a hashtag that nobody else had had. So the hashtag is sorry Friday. Not my first choice, but there are other ones I would have gone with are all over the place.
Starting point is 00:06:16 And so I define stuff because what I'm going to do is we're going to read these on the air during the course of the segment. Plus people are going to call in as well. And we'll have our own. Okay. If there's something that you would like to apologize for this week. Like a bad take you had? Bad take. Maybe you cut somebody off on the road.
Starting point is 00:06:32 Maybe you swore at your kids. Something this week. Maybe you took rude snipes at your coach. host. Yeah, I feel it to be completely accurate, is I get those all the time. If you want to call us today at 1130, you may do that. You can also send us a tweet and use the hashtag Sorry Friday. Okay. I got one. Oh, I've got 10. And it's from last night. Really? Save it. Save it for 1130. So that'll be coming up today. At noon, during the news at noon, you'll be giving us the headlines the day. And then we'll be waking
Starting point is 00:07:06 the strippers up. And then at 12.05 the Astros play the Cardinals, I want to say. I never know who they're playing. Maybe that's bad on me. Hey, come on, Matt. It doesn't really matter who they're playing. Does it? Yeah, it's huge. Huge matchup against the Cardinals today.
Starting point is 00:07:24 Okay. Here's the bit. So the Astros are going to use Jose Altube in left field today for the first time. In spring training. We have don't do a lot of live listens-ins, but we're going to do one today. That'd be good, because especially with Hunter Brown to throw it.
Starting point is 00:07:42 Yeah, Hunter Brown is definitely pitching today. So we will catch the top halves of innings to see how Jose Altupe is going to do. Apparently, Jose is going to play five innings in left field today. Really? Yes. I'm surprised at your reaction of that. Sorry. It's exciting.
Starting point is 00:08:04 I didn't mean to go goofy on you, Matt. You did. You sound like a little cartoon character there for a second. I was excited. All right. So we're going to jump in and hear how, I mean, it could be three ground balls and second base, and it'll be moot. Hunter Brown, two strikeouts and a ground out. But there could be a play in left field. First inning. You heard it here first.
Starting point is 00:08:24 And we'll check in it. Okay. So we'll check in on that. Eme Adoka, we believe we'll be with us at 1 o'clock today. He was having some phone issues yesterday. So we will be talking with him at 1 o'clock. We have non-Floristories at 130, and then, of course, hell, yeah, or not today, at 150. So a very busy program today, and remember, on every Friday, like it's been this way for a better part of, I don't know, 14 plus years, it is Rossi.
Starting point is 00:08:49 On anything goes Friday. Explain to the audience, the essence of an anything goes Friday. 713-212-5-790 is the phone number. Longest leash in the biz gets even longer. You've heard our midday drunk callers here. you can talk about anything you'd like. Of course, we do have the Rockets in action tomorrow against the Sacramento Kings
Starting point is 00:09:10 in the thick of a Western Conference battle. We also have the Astros, Jose Altuve, and left field. If you want to talk cookoff, if you hooked up with that special someone in a porta potty last night, Matt Thomas wants to hear about it at 713-212-5-7-9.
Starting point is 00:09:26 Now, are there any, before we wrap things up here in this segment, are there any, you went last night, have any do's and don'ts you like to give to the audience about if they go tonight or this weekend? Dues and don't. I would say do be prepared to walk a lot, especially go to the Uber drop off. I literally, my Apple Watch was like, are you working out?
Starting point is 00:09:44 I was like, yeah, I'm working out. Sure, why not? It was like a mile. It was a mile to the tent from where I was. That's a pretty first walk. I think it's cheap. It used to be cheaper. I don't know anymore.
Starting point is 00:09:55 This is bad because I have my media credential, so I get in for free. But I think it was cheaper to buy the tickets online. If you buy the tickets to get in, or at least maybe you had to pre-purchase. So I don't really have any tips. Just know famous people that can get you into tents. And pace yourself drinking, I would say do that. Because there's sometimes some people that get a little too rowdy and they don't pace themselves. And never, ever, ever, ever drive home.
Starting point is 00:10:22 I don't think I got anything special. That sounds great. I mean, that's all. I try to come up with something, but my brain's not working. No, no, no, no. That sounds very relevant, good advice. We're still rebooting, Matt. What time did you wake up this morning?
Starting point is 00:10:34 Don't even, don't even answer that question. By the way, I picked up Connor today. I picked up Connor this morning. We, traffic on 610. Ciceman. 610 sucks. You picked him up? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:46 He asked me to. So I did. That's wonderful. So you having car issues? Getting worked on a little bit. Nothing crazy. Oh, okay. That is the cutest thing I've ever heard.
Starting point is 00:10:56 He's getting some of those spikes on his wheels. He's getting some neon lights installed under his truck. Yes. Yes. Getting it lifted. Yeah. He's getting lifted. getting a nut sack and some neon lights
Starting point is 00:11:06 on his truck. You've seen trucks with those. With nutsacks? You haven't? I'm sure I have. I just don't know if I've ever heard him characterize that way. I'm sure that's what they're called. Ball sacks? No, it's either way, it's fine. It's fine. All right. 713,
Starting point is 00:11:24 21, 2, 1.5. Anything goes Friday. It is anything goes Friday. And we got, I'm sorry. Sorry's coming up at Friday. So sorry Friday. So if there's something you want to apologize for, you'll call us or you'll send us a tweet with the hashtag sorry Friday so we can actually get you know if you want to apologize and we're going to try to put some production value behind this I sent Connor some famous people saying sorry oh wow this is amazing so this is a pilot episode I'm intrigued it's a test yes it might be really so we're looking for a Friday 1130 segments so this might be it we'll find out today on anything goes Friday 713212 575 I want us to daily forecast or maybe weekly forecast how Jose Al Tuva is going to do in left field. We'll do our next round of that coming up next.
Starting point is 00:12:12 1015 on Sports Talk 790. Yeah, well, I have to talk to you basketball fans out there. You basketball fans are like to put a little extra action on the game just like I do. Are you ready to win some real money? You have to check out pick six from Draft Kings if you haven't done it already. When it comes to basketball payouts, Draft Kings pick six, dunks on its rivals. including prize picks. You just select two or more players,
Starting point is 00:12:37 choose if they're going to have more or less of a stat, points, rebounds, three-pointers, and more. It's fun, makes the game more interesting. You can put a little money down. Pick six is available legal here in Texas. You don't have to settle for smaller payouts from other players, a place is. You switch to Pick Six and you cash in on your basketball knowledge.

That's my code, 987 new customers. You play five bucks. You get 50 bucks in pick six credits. Better payouts, bigger wins. It's only with Draft Kings.

Starting point is 00:13:33 days. Limited time offer, see terms at pick6.draftkings.com slash promos. This is the Matt Thomas show with Ross on Sports Talk 790. It isn't anything goes Friday. Our time is 1020. Good morning. Jose L. Tuve and left field. Five innings apparently and we'll sneak in. Now, we're not going to try to talk during this because I think it's rude to talk over play by play. But if there's something we need to kind of reestablish and stuff, but I'm not going to say, oh, that was funny. said or something like i'm just want to just oh i'm gonna talk over it the whole time okay then um it'll just be you doing that okay no i'm never making it's it monish it'll be you and not me that's fine like i
Starting point is 00:14:26 wouldn't want you talking over me if i was calling a game like i can't believe matt said i would love the opportunity like a mystery science theater three thousand on me uh yeah no i don't mean like that adam clinton talked over you he's gonna get you i'm just kidding he's going to love you he's going to get you he's going to get you 713 212 5 he has to be nice to to me. I was co-hosting with them today for two hours. Are you really? Yeah. You're doing six hours of radio today? Half. Yeah. And the lack of sleep that you had
Starting point is 00:15:00 and the amount of alcohol that you had last night? I'm stupid. Yeah, I wouldn't call you bright. I'm okay. I wouldn't either. If somebody said, hey, I need you do six hours. I would have taken the night before to really rest up and just chill at the house. Like I did. I mean, I was chilling. You certainly were. I saw your pictures. And by way, you ran into some dufus.
Starting point is 00:15:21 who told you I don't want to care but... I love 98% of you. 2% of you are gutter trash. You really are. I ran into our good friend listener, CEO for show.
Starting point is 00:15:35 He was very nice. CEOs and 98%. He's good people. Yeah, thanks for pointing out my gray hair. I appreciate it. It's not getting... I mean, you're not going to be fully gray.
Starting point is 00:15:44 Now you're eventually going to be fully gray. It is. It lets you die. You're going to die? Never, ever, ever. Are you sure? Ever. Like, I look at Walt Frazier on the Rockets
Starting point is 00:15:52 and the Knicks every year, and I stare at that damn beard. I'm like, man, that thing is jet black. It's like Ryan Day's beard. Hmm. That's a good one. Is that the darkest beard out there in America today? Or like Mike Shoshowski's hair.
Starting point is 00:16:03 Yes. Like this guy's 83. His hair is jet black still. Do you think that Tim Duncan used to die in his hair when he was playing? No. Are you talking about Carlos Boozer? No, I'm talking about Tim Duncan. I always feel like there was like a just for men just dripping down his head.
Starting point is 00:16:18 No. I think LeBron does. You know what I think? I think LeBron needs to let the hair. line go completely and go completely great. People will appreciate a 40-year-old running around the way that he does. Whatever happened to the good old half-row? Because Clyde Drexler used to run around with the half-row and other guys in the NBA back in the 70s. That's the thing you'd bring it back. It's more impressive when you're throwing down dunks and racking up triple doubles and the all-time
Starting point is 00:16:48 leading score when you have gray hair and half your hair is gone. Didn't break some of a gray beard towards the end? Yeah, I guess so. I don't think to me, gray is not as bad as it was, say, 30 years ago. I think there was a lot of people that were very self-conscious back in the day that said they need to color their hair. I think gray is dignified.
Starting point is 00:17:09 In fact, my reality on this is, and the same thing with people that try to get hair transplants, we're going to make fun of you more for you getting a hair transplant than we are going to, and you graying and dyeing your hair, then if you just let it go. If you're bald or you've got patches and you need to take care of it, do it. Just get it done with. But, I mean, the Ryan Day
Starting point is 00:17:27 beard is, it was terrible. Not granted, he's got a national championship. He's telling you to suck it. But point being is that, if he had gray and his beard, we would have and I said word one about it. But because he uses that deep dye, a jet black on it makes him feel younger. I mean, he is dealing with 19, 20-year-olds. He doesn't want to get called unc. Nick, oh, Nick Sabin colors is here. I was going to say, that's a bad. Well, who doesn't? Yeah, that's true. Maybe in college sports, you have to dye your hair. I guess you do.
Starting point is 00:17:55 Who's the grayest college football coach? Mac Brown? Well, he's gone now. But Mac couldn't control it. I mean, he was in his 70s. I mean... No, he can control it? I guess you could control it.
Starting point is 00:18:07 Who's the great... Hey, the Sabin's in his 70s? Your hair ain't chestnut brown. Belichick don't care about his hair anymore. He's got a 25-year-old piece. I think he does care. Yeah. He's trying to stay young for him.
Starting point is 00:18:16 Who is? He'd probably get his eyebrows done and stuff, trying to stay young for her. Whatever he's doing. it's 100% working. Yeah. She'd been good at the rodeo cookoff last night. Probably. Yeah, it's so funny you brought that up today that the cookoff is nothing but nines and tens.
Starting point is 00:18:35 I think it's, I think there's nothing like it certainly in the city. It's probably in the world. Like, for instance, what's the white linen day in the Heights? Oh, okay. That can run a little. I heard you could pick up chicks over there on that night. That, um, that's where me and my girl met. Oh, that's the same.
Starting point is 00:18:53 segue. But that can be Connor and my son works that every year because he works a bar in the Heights area. That can run a little bit of a mixed bag if you will. I don't know. Have you ever been to the White Lennon Knights in the Heights? So what you're talking about? I'm going off of what Cameron said.
Starting point is 00:19:08 Oh, okay. And what Connor D. said. He ran into his tent while he was there. So good for him. Good for him. But you can run into a few fours and fives. You didn't run in fours and fives of the rodeo cook on the first night apparently. They're there. Oh, they were there? They were there. They were there. And I had to get through them to get to me when I finally got to.
Starting point is 00:19:24 He stepped on their faces. That's rude. Connor had to say at the White Lennonite, it's not me. It's not you. It's me. Multiple times. Because when he was on the dance floor, there were girls weren't trying to dance with him. I know. That's what I heard.
Starting point is 00:19:39 That's where Connor cuts rugs and heights bars like you would not believe. I do believe it, though. All right. Let's go to, can you go to the line one for us here? Stunna in Umbal. 1026. I don't anything goes Friday.
Starting point is 00:19:52 Stunna, good morning. to you. What's up, Matthew? And Ross, how y'all doing this morning? Excellent. Well, man, I'm still trying to get over this shit and goon. I mean, this guy got more turnovers than shit. What's going on with this guy, man?
Starting point is 00:20:10 Come on, man. Come on, Matt. I mean, I can hear your voice in the game. I know you want to go there and there to the bakey. Please hold on to the bone. Well, if you heard, did you hear my voice? day when he turned the ball over against who was it?
Starting point is 00:20:26 He had eight turnovers recently in a game. He was Milwaukee. Yeah. I mean, maybe throwing the ball up underneath the limb to the flip. I don't know that. I know you to clean up, man, man. I know you're a cleanup man. Hey, when he turned that turn, had the ball over
Starting point is 00:20:44 12 seconds left and turned it over against Milwaukee, I think that was bad. Wex and I wanted to leave the building. It was that bad. But he's having a much better offensive season. he's almost every single day giving you double doubles or close to it. Defense is getting there. Passing sometimes has been an issue, but he's not the only one.
Starting point is 00:21:04 Jalen Green's got high turnover count too. I mean, the only rocket that, frankly, who handles the ball as much as they do and doesn't turn the ball over that much is probably Fred Van Vlead. His assist to turnover ratio has just been magnificent ever since he's been in Houston Rocket. Yeah, that's shouldn't do this. I mean, hey, Scola held the ball better than he did. But Shingoon was, I mean, he didn't get the ball down low. Hey, just turn around and shoot it.
Starting point is 00:21:31 I don't know what this guy thinking. Does anybody just say, hey, look, man, because, hey, you know why you don't know the phone didn't work because he was too busy beating it off the wall because he had to have an old question. That's why his phone didn't work. Maybe he got a new one today. Well, we're going to hear E-Man his new cell phone today at 1 o'clock,
Starting point is 00:21:50 so I'll ask him directly. How about that? there you go I got one other thing Matt yes sir ride sharing hey be careful
Starting point is 00:21:57 on the ride sharing thing man because I had a buddy I rode to work with hey he got a nice big old truck I was like oh man
Starting point is 00:22:05 this is a nice truck after after work we got off he had a BW bug and I'm like hey
Starting point is 00:22:12 what up to the big truck oh my daughter got it and I had to drive her car so we're in the middle of the traffic had a BW bug with eyelashes
Starting point is 00:22:21 on and a freaking flower in the middle just going back and forth and people are looking at it. I was like, wow. I said, man, this is embarrassing. Trust me. Hey, Stana, thank you for the phone call.
Starting point is 00:22:35 I have news for you. Ross and I have gone down the streets of Houston and my daughter's VW bug, Beetle, convertible. And nobody looked at us weird. Yeah, I didn't have any issue. In fact, I think people actually... That'd be so self-conscious, Stunner.
Starting point is 00:22:50 I think people actually thought it was kind of cool. Yeah. Two very heterosexual guys in a bug, top down, enjoying the warm weather that was Houston, Texas. Cool wind in our face. It is the night. My body's weak. What? We were riding like the wind.
Starting point is 00:23:12 Oh, okay. And I think we went to go get Mexican food from not mistaken. Yes, we did. Yeah. So, yeah. So I'm going to tell you something. If you and your bro want to get into a beetle convertible. Convertible top.
Starting point is 00:23:24 Embrace it. Mm-hmm. You may get people hawking at you, giving you a thumbs up. Hey, that's a good-looking ride. That didn't happen. Nobody cares. It might have happened. Nobody's paying attention to what car you're in.
Starting point is 00:23:34 Not really. Not really at all. Unless you're one of those little small ones that like... I'm sure like in a Lamborghini. What's a little one that's the... I mean, it's like a box. The smart car back in the... Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:45 Yeah. There's a few for sure. Okay. It's really weird. But it's all out there. It seems completely unsafe, but... Yeah, I mean, it's... you get an accident, you can RIP yourself.
Starting point is 00:23:55 RIP yourself in the middle of the accident. RIP me. That's right. 1030, sports talk 790. It is the Matt Thomas show, Sports Talk 790. 713-212-5-790. 7-1-3-212-5-7-90. By the way, we've got tickets to go see U of Age versus Kansas.
Starting point is 00:24:12 I want to give away today. We should do that, and we'll do that at 10.50. You get Cincinnati coming in Saturday, Kansas for a big Monday, Ross, Mark Cougar program continues to shine. In a dark world of college basketball, there's one bright shining light, and it's over there on Calhoun and Cullen Boulevard,
Starting point is 00:24:35 the University of Houston. I got emotional over this. 1031, Sports Talk 790. 1035 on Sports Talk 790. It is the Matt Thomas show, 713, 212, 579. Hunter Brown is going to make his first start of the spring, and we will carry the portions of that. I don't really care how they do batting-wise.
Starting point is 00:25:06 I don't care about the score. Like the Astros lost yesterday, 5-0-0. I was able to sleep okay, but we'll be curious to kind of go to a little live listen in, see how Tube A is doing out there, because I know Robert and Steve will be talking a lot about that. There's no television in the game, so if you want to catch what is happening,
Starting point is 00:25:20 we'll jump in and let you listen to that a couple of times. See it on the radio. That's exactly right. 713-212-5-790. 7-1-2-1-2-5-1-2-5-5. 7-9-0. Rockets off again today. We'll have you made talking up at 1 o'clock
Starting point is 00:25:37 last night. Minnesota lost to the Lakers, so the Lakers gain a half game on the Rockets. They're in the four spot. The Rockets are in the 5, but it's just by percentage points because they have the same number of games between win-loss ratio. Let's see what else happened. Phoenix lost again last night to New Orleans.
Starting point is 00:25:53 That's a shame. Denver did lose to Milwaukee, so the Rockets gained a half game on the Nuggets in the race for the third spot in the Western Conference. That was a good. And Rockets and King Saturday before heading off to a week long road trip. So that's kind of your rocket report for the day. Let's see what else is going on. There's some Stefan Diggs news. Have you been paying attention to this stuff with his extracurricular activity? Now, I kind of saw it. Paying attention, I wouldn't say. I haven't. I wouldn't either
Starting point is 00:26:24 because the reality is celebrities can get into issues. in relationships. And sometimes they're the fault of the athlete. He's been with Cardi B, I thought, right? Yes. And I believe, somebody's trying to call you? Is that a news update for you coming in?
Starting point is 00:26:45 Something like that? Oh, yeah, I think it was, it's from a news website. Okay. So let me just read this and then we'll go from that you guys editorialize after it. Stefan Diggs has filed a six-count lawsuit, and he did so Wednesday. He is following a lawsuit against someone called named Mia Jones,
Starting point is 00:27:08 but her TV reality name is Moulan Hernandez. And Brianna Brieback is the other one. Mulan Hernandez? M-U-L-A-N, well, I'm assuming. Like the movie? So there's two. Disney's Mulan? He's suing two women.
Starting point is 00:27:25 Okay. Moulon Hernandez and Brieback. Okay. This lawsuit alleges that Stefan Diggs was punched in the charge. chest by Jones, that's Moulon Hernandez, threatened with a deadly weapon. Okay. And is a victim of, quote, a tale of abuse to extort millions of dollars.
Starting point is 00:27:45 Diggs now hopes to seek damages for, quote, defendant misconduct and the destruction of his property. There were threats coming from Jones that he had to pay her money or she was going to go public and ruin his career. This is what Diggs attorney. Public with what? We're kind of at a point where the threat. have to stop. That's why the decision was made to go ahead and file. At some point it just has to end. Diggs
Starting point is 00:28:08 according to his attorney had a quote casual relationship with Jones in the months before the lawsuit and the first alleged incident on June 7th of last year, in which Jones and Mack, the two women, allegedly destroyed Diggs property and quote, refused to leave his apartment.
Starting point is 00:28:25 Jones went to a Houston hospital early that morning for, quote, nauseing and vomiting after a long night of partying and was discharged with an an hour after denying suffering, quote, physical abuse of any kind. So when a woman comes in, looks like she's been beat to hell, the first thing I think is, have you been physically abused or anything? And they were determined that that was not the case.
Starting point is 00:28:46 Okay, so that's what they're trying to go public with, saying that he abused them. Could have been. Or her. Jones then made a second medical visit a week later, claiming she was, quote, punch in the back of the head with a close fist. Diggs and his representatives deny such claim. My understanding, this is again the attorney for Diggs, is that Jones and Mack went to the hospital together making complaints. She was treated and released the same day.
Starting point is 00:29:14 She didn't see Diggs that day. The lawsuit alleged that Diggs was punched. Diggs was the one that was punched in the chest by Jones in the morning of June 7th, and that several punches were unsuccessfully lodged at his head. It also claims that Jones destroyed Diggs' wristwatch and his PC gaming system. He's a PC gamer? Is he out there playing League of Legends? documents claim both Jones and Mac
Starting point is 00:29:38 attempted to extort money from Diggs in the months after the June 7th encounter. Diggs' suit claims the receiver suffered quote severe emotional distress in relation to the extortion and trespassing related charges. Huh. If all this is true,
Starting point is 00:30:00 we obviously feel sorry for Sifon Diggs because there are a lot of women out there and I don't mean to be sexist, but I'm going to want to sounding sexist. There are a lot of women that are going to go extort money from professional athletes because they don't want the scandal A and B, they know they're financially, they can take care of them with hush money.
Starting point is 00:30:18 Moulon Hernandez has put something on Instagram about this. She has a million followers on Instagram, by the way. I believe she's a basketball wife, if I'm not mistaken. Oh, okay. But her name's not even Moulon Hernandez? Mm-mm. This is weird.
Starting point is 00:30:32 When you go to reality shows, the first thing you do is really change your name. You change your name to an Asian Disney character? Yeah. All right. So what did she have to say about all this? On June 7th, I was assaulted. from behind by Stefan Diggs at our residence, an incident that resulted in a concussion.
Starting point is 00:30:47 This is not all grammatically correct. Months later, when the mediation, his legal team requested did not pan out in his favor, I was struck with this fabricated story publicly. This is an attempt to try to get ahead of the truth that is to come. I will not be intimidated nor silenced. Having to relive this moment is very traumatic for me, especially in my time of healing. Domestic violence is something I do not wish on anyone. And everything that is done in the dark will come to the light.
Starting point is 00:31:13 So this is a classic example of he said versus she said. He's getting out in front of it by suing her. She's getting out ahead of it by saying, bring it out, bring it. I'm going to go to my Instagram account and tell the whole world what you did to me. And then there is she posts a, I guess a discharge report from an emergency center. It basically says diagnosis, minor closed, head injury, concussion, no loss of consciousness. And then it's prescribed medication and the instructions to apply ice.
Starting point is 00:31:55 So we don't know who's telling the truth and who's lying. But don't you got to be just, if you're Stefan Diggs in this particular case, you just got to be really super careful with the company you keep, right? I don't think he is. And that's maybe what he's being guilty of is he's just got to be, he has to learn that running with a certain clientele of people could cause some issues down the road.
Starting point is 00:32:26 Including Moulon Hernandez. And her friend. There's two people involved in this. Again, not for us to judge on who's guilty and who's innocent because obviously right now we've just given you both sides of the story on this. Is she from Houston or something? One of her pictures is with her with a rocket's uniform on. She plays?
Starting point is 00:32:45 Have I called her a game before? No, I think this is Photoshop? Is this real? But Stefan is not doing himself any favors here. Ooh, she had people in the comments. Oh, this is not good. Saying? Talking, this is how she traps men.
Starting point is 00:33:07 When's the last time you touched a basketball, lame, liar? She's being attacked, and she may very well be telling the truth. That's unfortunate. Right. It's really bad. Well, bottom of mind is this. she went to IG to say these things. He followed a lawsuit.
Starting point is 00:33:20 Somebody's lying. Well, I think she says she's going to have, I guess there's going to be legal stuff on her side. Right. That would be my guess. You have to obviously defend yourself if you've got Stefan Dix filing a suit against you. She says this is clearly an attempt to try to get ahead of the truth that is to come.
Starting point is 00:33:39 Uh-huh. Yeah. Yeah. Just Ross, I don't give you some advice because I've given you a lot of sage advice over the career. Just be careful the company. That's all I'm very careful. All right. 713-212-5-7-90.
Starting point is 00:33:53 Look, it is nothing new about his future, nothing new about his performance, but it has been an interesting time that this has come out in the last couple days when the Texans are trying to figure out what they want to do if they do want to bring him back on some sort of short-term deal. That should make a big difference, but you also don't want to have Stefan Diggs and his off-the-field problems. I mean, if you're the Texans Ross, you have to vet this out. You've got to hire your own investigators on this.
Starting point is 00:34:21 Because as much as you might like Stefan Diggs, you can't take his word exclusively. You just can't. Or you just might as say we're out of the Stefan Diggs business altogether. Because, I mean, is he really worth vetting with all this and the injury and the fact that it's on the other side of 30 years old? He's older and maybe he was wanting more money than you wanted in the first place. And maybe this takes him off your list. It could. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:34:43 I don't know if it does or doesn't. And maybe you're more trouble about it. the fact that it's a PCer, right? Is that what your issues are with him? A PC gamer? No. I just didn't know that about him. Those PC gaming setups can be expensive. Thousands of dollars. His is over 100,000 bucks. What? Yeah. He must have the like the 400 screen. Where did you see that? On the streets. You're making it up. Okay. 1045 on Sports Talk 790. It is the Matt Thomas show with Ross. 713-212-5-7-90. It's how you reach our program today. Gold-plated mouse or something.

ShellfcU.org for the Shell Federal Credit Union. You can get a couple skip a pays a year. So in 30 minutes, we'll be giving away a pair of tickets for U of H versus Kansas. We'll do it at 1120 today and 1220. So two pairs of two tickets to be given away for the Cougars versus the Jayhawks, which I believe is Monday night on ESPN. I love the fact, when I was a kid, Big Monday was so awesome.
Starting point is 00:36:30 And now that my squad's on it every Monday, it's even better. Pruddy you, Matt. Who are they playing? You said, Kansas. Oh, that is a big one. Very pedestrian Kansas team this year, 19-9. Come on, Bill Self. You know what it is?
Starting point is 00:36:45 Get it together. What is it? NIL, baby. What? NIL. Just pay. Let's not get around anymore. I'm so glossed over the,
Starting point is 00:36:54 we've got to have ethics anymore. I'm ethical free when it comes to college athletics. Just get the money. They've won one recently, right? In the last three, four years? Yeah, it's been a one. But yeah, they've won before. But, I mean, not that NIL's,
Starting point is 00:37:06 I mean, NIL has gone up 300% since then. It feels like. 2022 champions. Yeah. It's pretty good. Is Auburn paying all this money? They got a lot older players, too, whoever? Probably.
Starting point is 00:37:20 If there's anybody I'm not worried about in terms of not being on the fine cash? It's him. I mean, you have these, I mean, Bruce Pearl and all his sanctions. Melvin Mampson, I don't want to get in trouble. Oh, one little small thing. I'm just saying, it's a fact. I don't want people on Facebook whining, crying, and I can't believe. No, they're wanting crying because you're just a terrible person.
Starting point is 00:37:47 That's different. cry about it on Facebook. It was unprofessional of you. I was just, you know, I was just joking around. Why so serious? But Bruce Pearl, I mean, Chris Beard literally got fired for an incident where he allegedly choked out his wife. Now he's just that old mess and who knows he might end up with a better job in the next couple of years. He is the number one candidate for the job in Indiana.
Starting point is 00:38:16 I've been to Oxford, Mississippi before, and I've been to Bloomington. I'd say in Oxford. Just saying Yeah, but It's a program Cashay, it's definitely Indiana For sure Mm-hmm
Starting point is 00:38:30 But would you see And I don't have it got it Really underneath the radar That Northwestern Women's Basketball team Had to forfeit two games Why they didn't have enough players or what? That's actually been
Starting point is 00:38:43 That would be the logical guess Okay They were supposed to play USC and UCLA And basketball during the wildfires and they cancel the games because they couldn't get out there. And the Big Ten said, well, it's too late in the season we can't reschedule them,
Starting point is 00:38:58 so you're going to lose those games. Yeah. Wow. That is kind of a wow, isn't it? They must be really bad as it is. They're like out of the tournament running? I don't know. I don't know anything about them at all.
Starting point is 00:39:15 But I just thought that was just crazy. That the Big Ten would basically say, yeah, Northwestern Women's Basketball assigned to forfeits after not playing UCLA and USC because of the wildfires. Wow. I'm trying to think if there's anything more to it. It was the only game on either UCLA's or USC
Starting point is 00:39:38 schedule that were impacted by the wildfires. I don't know if the Northwestern said we're not going to go out there. We don't want to or we can't go out there or whatever the case may be. Per conference rules, forfeitures will be assessed in Northwestern as a result. The wildcast will be credited with two losses. Huh. Wow.
Starting point is 00:39:58 I guess it was the basketball team's decision not to travel during that time. They're like, we're good. I don't even know if Northwestern's basketball's women's basketball is any good. I'm going to guess they're not. Otherwise, they would have played. Although if I'm a North Western and I'm going to have a chance to get out of the cold and go to California for a week. Yeah, they're 2 and 15 in conference pool.
Starting point is 00:40:14 Ah, so they were like, no, I'm going to go there and get our ass kick, but that's a long way to go. Yeah, I spent some money, you got to get out there. Think about this. It saved them. It saved them thousands of dollars if you think about it. Yeah. Oh, my. What? They had like a 12-game losing streak in the middle of this season.
Starting point is 00:40:33 These girls are terrible. They're probably really smart. Yeah, they're like, go to a trip to California during the worst wildfires or stay at home and go to class. Well, education is important. Actually, two of these losses are listed as forfeits, never mind. But they're terrible, and USC and UCLA are really good. So they want to get their ass beat.
Starting point is 00:40:51 Yeah. USC, it looks like, is top five in the country. I don't they have that girl that's really good. I can't remember her name. and then, yeah, they're ranked teams. Why would you say no to that? I mean, I guess they're probably saying, we don't believe you that you didn't want to go out there
Starting point is 00:41:07 with a forest fires. You just didn't want to go out there because you don't want to get your butt speed. UCLA's number two in the country, USC's number four. Yeah. Okay, you know what? I don't know. We're good. We're good.
Starting point is 00:41:17 Kenneth, in Orange at 1056 on 790. Kenneth, good morning to you. Come on. I just wanted to comment about this situation, legal situation. We would digs. You know, I really believe that was a very brilliant move he made. You know, and a lot of us don't remember, or old enough, remember when this happened to Michael Irvin.
Starting point is 00:41:37 He handled him and alignment, and they handled this similarly. They got out ahead of this, and then that woman was exposed. But this, but, you know, this is going, we don't want to hear these stories forever. But this is something, man, and they really need to do with these younger players when they come into the league. is teaching them, man, you can't go to places you used to go, do the things you used to do, because every little old touch, bump, or now can interpret it to a lawsuit.
Starting point is 00:42:08 Your words are lawsuit, you know, and, you know, a lot of them is overtaken with all this money and fame, man. But, you know, if it was my son or something, I would tell him, look, man, get you somebody you love, you like, stick with them, and stay out those streets, man, because we're never going to hear the end of that. man because it don't take nothing to sue anybody and you know they say you can sue you can you can indict a ham sandwich you can sue a ham sandwich man you know uh i took a mile an college of
Starting point is 00:42:41 law business law and i went to dive into some stuff and what i learned about the law i see things much different now man and uh i just had to comment on that man is that you know it could go two ways They put their shelf in these positions, even though you can, you ain't done nothing wrong. But Joe the butt crack, a problem is not getting sued. He ain't got no money. You got the money, baby.
Starting point is 00:43:06 You're going to get two. Be careful around the women and where you go, and they really need to drill these rookies on that and have some kind of way, man, to help these guys, man, understand it, man. You're walking baseball, man. I just had to say that. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:43:25 All right, Kenna, thank you. The one thing I learned about athletes is they like to hang out with fellow celebrities. Certainly ones that are IG models with Brazilian butt lifts and a million followers. Yeah, I mean, you can say it'd be nice for you to go back and get your college sweetheart or a girl that you grew up with in the elementary school. But most guys there are guys who are with their sweethearts. There are some. But there's also a fair number of people that enjoy being associated with famous women.
Starting point is 00:43:56 Yeah. And I don't even know. What was the caller's name? You can't make a... Kenneth. Kenneth, you weren't there. We don't know. Kenneth has already made the judgment that Mulan Hernandez is just out for money on this.
Starting point is 00:44:08 We don't know. The fact is, if you pick a side, you're fooling yourself. We have zero information about this, except with the he said and then 10 minutes later, what she said. Somebody's not telling the truth. And so it's not enough for us to decide what it is. It's up for the court of law to do that, or investigators. but if you're going to ask athletes to not hang out with other beautiful, famous people, you're nuts. I mean, the number of celebrity, go tell Travis Kelsey, you know, Taylor, probably hang out with your girl that you went to high school with.
Starting point is 00:44:43 How does Cardi B feel about all this? Wasn't Cardi B pregnant when Stefan and her were expressing their love towards each other? I don't have full confirmation of that, but it feels somewhat accurate. Just throwing it out there Look, I'm not here to kink shame anybody Whatever you're into Stefan Diggs, good for you By the way, I'm very proud of us
Starting point is 00:45:07 So far this week we've not brought up The Ole Miss student this week on the show Oh, that's been, there's been denied, that's been denied now We know people who know We know people Who know those people Who can get six degrees separation between One degree.
Starting point is 00:45:24 That and the girl at Ole Miss. Uh-huh. So I'm proud of us for not bringing that up this week. You're doing great, Matt. Because it sounds like it definitely a lifetime movie for sure. All right. 11 o'clock. Let's get the second hour started. I'm sorry. In 30 minutes.
Starting point is 00:45:38 You should be. Will this work out well or will this be a train record of a segment? We'll find out. We'll find out. I'm sorry coming up in 30 here on 790. Launch timers. This is the Matt Thomas show. 11.05.
Starting point is 00:45:53 It is the Matt Thomas show with Ross. We start hour number two. On an anything goes Friday, 713, 212-5-790 is how you reach a show today. 7-13-212-5-7-90. If you've got anything you want to get off your chance, whether it be sports or played it related, life-related, we are here for you as we take this program in today until 2 p.m. Coming up in one half hour, it is a pilot edition of I'm sorry where you get to apologize for anything that you've done this week. I want to say sorry to someone out there. We're going to try this in 25 minutes.
Starting point is 00:46:26 We'll see how it goes. Coming up, we get the news at noon, and then shortly after that, we will check in a couple of times throughout the noon hour, especially on the Astros in their spring training game as Jose Altovae will make his debut, at least spring training-wise, in left field.
Starting point is 00:46:41 Looking forward to hearing some of that and see how he does on that. Also, we've got E. Medoca coming up at 1 o'clock this afternoon, non-Fortostores at 1.30, and then we've got, of course, hell yeah, or not at 150. Plus, in about 15 minutes, your chance to win the Cougars tickets versus the Kansas Jayhawks Monday on a big Monday game. If you want to go to the game, we'll get a pair of tickets to give away in about 15 minutes
Starting point is 00:47:03 from now and then some more tickets coming up at 1220. 713-212-5-790. 7-1-3-212-5-7-90. All right. So in this week's edition of how Jose is going to do in left field, two weeks ago, actually a week ago yesterday, we were coming back from spring. training. We saw the pep in the step of Jose Altuve. He was happy go lucky. He's happy to be a major leaguer. It's clearly his clubhouse. Now, it doesn't speak a ton, but when he does, his, his
Starting point is 00:47:38 leadership is what he does on the field and his availability to do whatever is asked of him. We came back, this is going to be great. Not going to miss a beat. Second base defense was not great to begin with. So putting him out in left field, you're going to improve yourself at second base. would think. And while left field might be a disaster, it's the easiest of the three outfield positions. And it's also a minute made park or Diken Park, not a lot of ground to cover. And all the way, Jake Myers is in center field and he'll cover a lot of the ground that maybe Jose can't get to. Yeah, I would say if you're going to switch somewhere, left field is not that it's easy, but the easiest. Yeah. So that was a week ago. Feeling great. Yeah. Feeling alive. Feeling energized.
Starting point is 00:48:24 Monday and Tuesday this week, I still feel bullish on the situation. But to me, and I brought this up originally when we first talked about this, it wasn't about the pop flies. He's caught plenty of pop flies in his life.
Starting point is 00:48:38 That's not foreign territory to him. It's what he's going to do once the ball lands. And will runners, on a single to the left field, try to score from second base because they don't respect the arm. What is left in the Jose Altuvae arm with all the number of years he has played professional baseball.
Starting point is 00:48:57 Is it going to be average? Is it going to be, for instance, Jordan Alvarez doesn't carry a lot of, I would not, would say, a amazing left fielder. He's adequate, but what makes him a guy that you don't necessarily fret about him being out there is because his arm is really good. He can throw some people out at home plate. Jake Myers, minus arm, great ability to catch everything.
Starting point is 00:49:22 Chas McCormick, minus arm, but flexible, can play all three outfield positions. Can we have a little dose of real talk here, Maddie? All right. So that's what I'm coming to you for, because last week you were on Cloud 9. Jose Altuva is in the twilight of his career. He's going to be 35. This is, we're going to talk about this in 10 years. Remember Jose was at the end of his career, and they kind of tried to move him to left just to get a little bit of extra juice and lengthen his career.
Starting point is 00:49:56 This is what it is. You're telling me the same conversations that a young sportscaster named Matt Thomas had back in the day about Craig Bizio. Correct. Are the same types of conversations and older Matt Thomas will be having about Jose Al-Tu. Correct. Let's just be real here. There has been, or at least there was, real decline of the plate last year. Maybe he can have a bounce back season.
Starting point is 00:50:17 Hopefully he can get his OPS back over 800. But there has been some slippage. He's 35 years old. You're just looking at him. Look, we're not asking for gold gloves and stuff. Just don't hurt the team as much as he was at second base. And then get some pop out of the bat and we're going to be in a good spot. And it's also, again, not like he's going to be out there 150 games.
Starting point is 00:50:44 It's going to be some. He's going to be moving around. I would guess, how about this, gut feeling. Next year, he's going to play whatever number of games he does and left this year. And next year, it'll be more. This is a transition. He's in a transition period. He's transitioning to the twilight of his career.
Starting point is 00:51:00 Now, you have given me numerous metrics about Jose Al-Tube. Yeah. And maybe I'm blocking this out of my head. Okay. But I've never felt embarrassed about Jose Al-Tuvier playing second base. He doesn't fumble the position. He does, he misses plays every now and then. You're like, what was that?
Starting point is 00:51:22 I think. But it's not. Now, if you want to, you want to, you want to Shay, Whitcomb out there. If you are going to argue with me about the range, that's inarguable. I can't possibly argue that because his range was never a spectacular to begin with. Now, he covered a lot of ground for his size and stature, but it was never great to begin with. I'm just going, maybe because I'm just too close to the situation, when I would watch Jose Altouba at second base,
Starting point is 00:51:49 there was never a thought of my mind going, please don't hit it to him, please don't hit it to him. There have been other players over the years. He had the yips for a while, if you remember that. But that was different. That was a short-term problem. He's got that back now. Uh-huh. So I don't want to necessarily, like, if you were to diagnose and run down the entire Jose Al-Tube career, to me, the biggest blemish of his career is his D-minus to almost F base running skills.
Starting point is 00:52:15 Okay. I would not put the ball through his legs guy as a characteristic of Jose Al-Tuvius' working left in second base. No, he's not a bumbling fool out there That's what I'm saying I don't want us to While we're talking about the metrics not being good And the range being Dwindling
Starting point is 00:52:34 I don't think he embarrassed the team Does Dubon At 100% probably carry more Government more ground Can he make a few more plays Yeah can he save some runs I could go with all that That's another thing too
Starting point is 00:52:47 Yeah you have great replacements for him In Dubon and if Brendan Rogers makes the team Yeah You add all that up We're putting him in left Let's go let's get him moving folks he's 35 years old we gotta be real
Starting point is 00:53:01 can be real about this can i ask maybe his base running be better this year why because that that drives me nuts that does drive me nuts why would he do that he's why would he do that in his 15th season all of a sudden that improves maybe he's a step slower and he's like you know what i won't take that extra
Starting point is 00:53:16 any feet that i thought i mean look most of his almost all of the mistakes that hosei al tuve makes it's because he's being aggressive which does worry me about a left field Well, let's say he goes to the wall and left field. The wall against the third base line. No, down the third base line. He's not going to be robbing many home runs.
Starting point is 00:53:37 I've watched probably a thousand games in Minutank Park in my life, but I've never seen a home run be taken away up the top of the wall. Well, maybe you could Spider-Man scale up there. He's nimble. Will he have enough time to climb up those numbers? If it's a, hopefully, depends on the launch angle, Matt. No, you told me those launch angles are everything.
Starting point is 00:53:55 I didn't tell you that. They ain't screaming me, he's ain't leaving the ball yard. Well, on the left, they can. So there's definitely no chance he can climb the wall then at that point. All I'm saying is, I ain't scared about this. I had minimal expectations of the left field, even when Joseon Tuve's name was not brought up. And I don't have many, I don't have a lot of expectation right now. You shouldn't.
Starting point is 00:54:20 And that's fine. We'll see what happens. Later today on Sports Talk 790. You'll hear what happens. Oh, yeah, too. So if you want to hear how Jose does and is opening a bat, inning defensively, we'll have it for you here on Sports Talk 790. 713-212-5-790 is how you reach the show. 7-1-3-2-1-2-5-7-9.
Starting point is 00:54:41 I want to give away a pair of tickets to see the Cougars take on Kansas. We'll do that next here on the program. 1114 on Sports Talk 790. It's an anything goes Friday at 7-13-212-5-790. The Matt Thomas Show with Ross continues on Sports Talk 790. All right. Time for us to give away a pair of tickets to see the Cougars take on the Kansas Jayhawks. And the question this hour involves Coach Calvin Sampson. Calvin has been at a variety of Division I institutions over his collegiate career.
Starting point is 00:55:23 My question for you this hour, first person is 713-212-5-790. We'll get this right. We'll win the tickets. What was Coach Sampson's first stop as a division? one head basketball coach. Do you know? 713-212-5-790. 7-1-3-212-5-7-9. Speaking college athletics.
Starting point is 00:55:47 And this is going to go under the radar for a lot of folks, but it's going to once again go to just how insane college money and revenue is. There is a marketing group out there called Playfly. And it is a group that handles all of the, marketing involving athletics on campus facilities. Kyle Field, Reed Arena, Bluebell Park, the tennis courts, anything involving athletics. If you see a sign for a dealership, a beverage, a beer, a lumber company, that sausage place they always talk about, you have to spend the money. If you want to be a part of that, you want to be in a game program, you want to be in the radio broadcast, you have to go to a third market.
Starting point is 00:56:34 you have to go to a third party marketing group. You don't call A&M and say, hey, I want to be on the radio. You have to call Playfly. I have a stupid question. Why? Because A&M. They don't want the headaches?
Starting point is 00:56:46 Correct. Okay. The two biggest companies that do this, one is called Leerfield. And I'm sure if you listen to any of your college broadcast, you'll always hear this is Texas football. Learfield sports, Aggie football. That's right.
Starting point is 00:56:57 You used to be Aggie football Learfield. University Houston, who I work for, it's University of Houston as a Leerfield property. Texas. Texas is a Learfield. I would say 90% of the colleges in the country are Learfield properties. Okay. So what you do is you call Learfield and you say, hi, I'm Villarreal moving. I want to spend money. I want to put a sign up at Derrickay Royal. Okay. I thought Learfield was just radio. I had no idea. Radio is actually at the end of the day a very small component of it. I had no clue.
Starting point is 00:57:26 So if you want to sign it for Villarreal moving, moving. Okay. At D. K.R. You're not calling University of Texas. Why not going to have a moving company, Matt? maybe it's a good sign maybe you should get a moving company so what these companies do is they will do sometimes they will do hey we will give you this amount of money okay and then we will sell it and any money we get back after that it's our profit like we'll hand texas 30 million dollars a year and we're going to make 35 million so we're going to our learfield's going to make a 5 million dollars some universities most of them will do a revenue share where Learfield will go in and sell,
Starting point is 00:58:04 and Learfield will take 60% of whatever they sell and then give the university 40%. I mean, every school is negotiated. Like, for instance, a marketing deal with University of Texas is going to be significantly different than a marketing deal would be with Akron. It just seems like to me these schools would do their own, make their own marketing department and keep all the money.
Starting point is 00:58:23 It's a lot of work. Plus, when you work with Learfield or you work with Playfly, I'm not trying to get too businessy on you here, but if you're going to go make a pitch for Coca-Cola, if you're at Learfield, I can say, I can give you 10 schools for this amount of money as compared to if Texas went to Coca-Cola by itself. You're probably going to get a bigger share of the dollars
Starting point is 00:58:44 when you're with other schools. Interesting. Okay. So A&M. It's like when they pitch Michael Berry, they throw us in. I was like, throw in. Well, they used to do it that way.
Starting point is 00:58:54 Now they don't even include us anymore, but that's a different issue for a different time. So my point is this. So this Playfly group is in a competitor to Learfield, and A&M has been a Learfield property for a long time. Playfly is going to give and just signed the contract with A&M for 15 years to handle every bit of signage, every bit of their magazines, every bit of anything corporate attached to the athletic department,
Starting point is 00:59:26 they're going to give A&M in the next 15 years $515 million. A&M is going to get a check from Playfly for $34 million a year. And it's up to Playfly to not only make that 34 back, but then some obviously to cut their own profits.
Starting point is 00:59:51 Wow. That is the largest deal in the marketing rights world, multi-mead called multimedia marketing in the history of college board. and Texanem has it. Treve Alberts, you're doing just fine. Playfly, get to work.
Starting point is 01:00:15 Playfly? I'm looking at this deal. College Station, Texas. Knowing what I know about this, Playfly is going to go out of business. And I'm not trying to joke about it. I'm being honest about this. I mean, you're going to have to get every nook and cranny of Kyle Field sold.
Starting point is 01:00:37 The field. The field. You're probably, I got... Jersey sponsors. I'm going to be brutally honest with you. You're probably going to have to get a name change to the stadium. Like a sponsorship. Correct. Kyle Field. Like they do whatever field at Arrowhead Stadium. Correct.
Starting point is 01:00:53 So you're going to have to do whatever stadium at Carl Field. Correct. Yeah, probably. And Reed Arena too. I mean, I don't know if there was a bylaw with the Reed family that said you can't put a corporate name on it or whatever. because we're giving you this donation. But you can't. I don't care how awesome A&M is.
Starting point is 01:01:12 You can't give them $34 million and expect to make that back without something of a large deal to put out, like a naming rights of something. Now, is this part of a bigger thing? Is Playfly making a play on Lear Field? Well, they clearly took away Lear Field. they will not be Aggie sports Learfield anymore. So Learfield lost the Aggie business.
Starting point is 01:01:38 So they're going to be hurt by that. There's no offense or butts about that because when you go to try to sell, let's just say, Ford, okay? And I can give you 10 schools in the state of Texas. I can give you Baylor. I can give you U of H. I can give you TCU. I can give you North Texas. I can give you an A&M.
Starting point is 01:01:53 They're like, oh, that sounds great. Dealing is nearly a sexy when you can't give M&M. So Learfield's hurt by this. But even Learfield, who's got all these schools in the country, that are spending this money on these multimedia marketing rights, you can't make $34 million a year. Who is the company? There used to be two major ones in Leerfield.
Starting point is 01:02:14 IMG. They merged. They merged. Yeah. So, I mean, I don't know how, but we do a winner, by the way, for our tickets with the Cougars in Kansas, Connor. It would a winner of a name? Yes. It's in your email.
Starting point is 01:02:28 Okay. By the way, the answer to the question is, first place at Calvin Sample, and coach was Washington State. Okay? Wow. There you go. So there's, you're always starting to figure out ways to pay for stuff.
Starting point is 01:02:42 You got Playfly playing them $34 million a year. That doesn't include a ticket sold. Now, they'll give, they'll give some tickets to give their clients, but that's, that's nothing for them. Mm-hmm. Interesting.
Starting point is 01:02:58 Because obviously, Texas A.M. is not the biggest brand in college sports, but they got the biggest deal. That's pretty cool. Good for them. 30. It's a lot of money. And Treb Alberts, 80 of the year, right? He's doing okay for himself.
Starting point is 01:03:14 Because where do you put A&M, and maybe this is difficult territory for you? I shouldn't even forget what I am. I'm going to say. What? Where is A&M in the national landscape? I don't know. Well, let's think about it. Michigan, this is talking about all athletic programs, not just football, but football obviously leans a lot of it. the name brand, no doubt about it,
Starting point is 01:03:36 national college brands. Ohio State, Texas, Alabama. So, B.C. says their third. Most valuable college athletic program, for whatever reason. They have Ohio State 1, Texas 2, A&M 3. I'm stunned by that. That A&M's brand is not as big as Michigan's. Yeah, but I mean, this is in terms of dollars in revenue.
Starting point is 01:04:04 But I'm okay, forget about the dollars. Just think about it from a, if you said who are the thoroughbreds. If you went to Times Square in New York and said name a college. Name a college program. Yeah. Now a lot of it obviously is based off of football. Because Alabama basketball is good now, but it wasn't good 10 years ago. Right.
Starting point is 01:04:25 Notre Dame, frankly, to me, has a bigger national cachet than A&M does. I would say, you might put Notre Dame one. I mean, you tell me that USC, if their football relevant, isn't in a situation. where they're not have a national brand like that? Probably. At least on the West Coast. I'll just give you these, this is from December of last year. College athletic valuations.
Starting point is 01:04:48 So that just means from basically revenues. Ohio State, Texas, A&M, Michigan, Bama, Notre Dame, Georgia, Nebraska, Tennessee, Oklahoma. That's the top ten. I would even venture to say, well, maybe not. Does Oklahoma bigger national brand than A&M? I don't think so. Not recently. Okay.
Starting point is 01:05:12 I would say as far as storied history, absolutely. What do they have? Seven national championships on football? Yeah, I mean, basketball's been a perennial sweet 16 team. Little lean there, kind of. I mean, even though Duke basketball runs that, I mean, Duke football doesn't really necessarily move the needle. So maybe North Carolina's got a bigger national brand than Duke does?
Starting point is 01:05:35 Probably. Florida. How about, who carries more national cachet, Florida State or A&M? Honestly, when you think about everything. You would say Florida State, but they also took their coach, Jimbo. Yeah. Well, so that was like a huge, what was it, $75 million, 10-year contract, whatever was this time. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:05:51 It seems like to me that's a, if you're going to work for Playfly, you're a 22-year-old trying to sell A&M sports, your quota just went up. Man, these 500. Spin and spin and spin. It's crazy. They have unlimited money up there in College Station. Unlimited amount of money. College sports is unlimited with finances. All right.
Starting point is 01:06:13 We're going to try something now. Ross, will this work or not? This is our pilot edition of I'm sorry. Yes, it will work. If you want to call us right now at 713-212-5-790 and apologize for something you might have done or said this week, 7-13-212-5-7-90. We'll see how this goes.
Starting point is 01:06:32 If you want to send us a tweet about something that happened this week with you and you want to tell people you're sorry through Twitter, hashtag it's sorry Friday so we can find it. Okay. Hashtag is sorry Friday. Okay. Sorry Friday. What about Friday, sorry?
Starting point is 01:06:46 That's not the one I'm looking for. Okay. 713-212-5-790. Or it's it Friday, sorry. Sorry Friday. Friday, sorry? Whatever sounds better to you. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:06:57 I'll forget about it. All right, here we go. 7-13-212-5-7-90. We'll say some sorry to some people next. 7-13-212-5-7-90. Brand-new segment on the show. Ross, it's our main voyage. In a Friday edition, we've called, I'm sorry.
Starting point is 01:07:20 I'm sorry. So sorry. All right. By the way, people are asking about Montana Tech. That was his first job, but that was on his first Division I job. Yeah, Matt said Division I. Yeah. And we're going to, you know what?
Starting point is 01:07:47 I just found out we're going to have another pair of tickets to give away. So we're going to away two pair of tickets now. How about that at 1220? And then he went from Montana Tech To Washington State to Oklahoma To Indiana to God's Country University of Houston Well he went from Indiana to Well he got a
Starting point is 01:08:03 Five-year show cause So he couldn't be in college for five years But And he came back to Houston Do we need to go back to Facebook again with you? What did I just say that was inaccurate? It's funny, well you never bring up any problems Of anybody in coaches of Texas
Starting point is 01:08:20 You were talking about his coaching history Yeah, I did I didn't rather bring that up I literally talked about Chris Beard allegedly choking on his wife two segments ago. I consider more rough sex, but I don't hear nor there. Oh, my God. Well, I'm staying away from that one. Ross, I want you to say you're sorry to all the University of Houston fans.
Starting point is 01:08:37 Why? Because when we go the Final Four, they're going to be coming after you. Say, I'm sorry. You better make it. Yeah, you got that right. You better make it. All right. Here's how it works.
Starting point is 01:08:46 You're going to call 713212-5-790. If you want to apologize for anything that you've done this week, Ross, you got one from last hour. You said it happened last night. You know what, Matt? I was walking in the tent area, the cookoff last night. And there was somebody he said, Ross. And I turned around.
Starting point is 01:09:05 I was like, who is this? And it was somebody who I guess recognized me and knew who I was. I started chatting with a guy and we started talking about sports radio. And he said to me, now clearly he didn't know what he was talking about. He's not a good fan of sports radio. It didn't feel like he was very smart. And then he was like, hey, can you tell Matt stop talking so monotone? And I was like, what does that even mean?
Starting point is 01:09:25 That Thomas is not monotone at all. So I thought it'd be funny to take a video of him saying that. Yeah. And then sent it to you. But I didn't give you any context. Correct. And also, man, I was half drunk in my defense. I understand. But you know what?
Starting point is 01:09:40 As my head hit the pill, I was like, you know what? That was mean. I should have said at least this guy is an idiot or didn't know what he's talking about. I thought it was funny because this guy didn't know what he was talking about. But I didn't properly communicate that. So I like to say, I'm sorry to you, Matt. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry for sending that.
Starting point is 01:09:56 My turn. I was on North Park Drive two days ago. That's one of the two thoroughfares out of the Kingwood area and at 59. And there was this dufus riding a bike going on my side of the road in the opposite direction. And I was not pleased with the fact that he was cramping the driving the lifestyle of those of us on the road because you've got to make sure you don't hit them. So I extended my right hand out and gave him a middle finger. Wow. So to that bike rider on North Park going the wrong direction,
Starting point is 01:10:34 I don't know if he's got a car or not. It doesn't really matter. And I think he probably should have done a better job of riding his bike during a non-congested part of King of North Park Drive. I want to say that guy I get a middle finger too. I'm sorry. Sorry. That's good, Matt.
Starting point is 01:10:50 I'm glad you could apologize. There's a lot of apologies I've got to make over the... You can make some more. Or are you going to save, you're going to ration them. Dose them out properly. I would like to say, I'm sorry to those people on 610 where I was screaming at their names today for driving like idiots. Connor was with me to see the frustration in my voice. And when I'm yelling at people.
Starting point is 01:11:17 Wait, Connor was watching you road rage today? I was road raging, and I want to apologize to Connor for seeing my road range on 610 before we went to 45. I need more on that. How bad was the road rage one to 10? Connor. No, it was very mild. It was very mild. I mean, it was frustrating, but there wasn't any curse or anything like that. Dang.
Starting point is 01:11:36 Just a lot of this sucks. And we're trying to get to work, trying to talk about the radio show, trying to talk about this weekend. And all I could do was bitch about parking, or driving. So I want to say to you, Connor McGovern, I'm sorry. Oh, sorry. This is great.
Starting point is 01:11:52 7-1-3-21-2-5-7-9. Connor, you want to apologize for anything this week? sure yeah so i'm sorry to the young man at old miss that had this rumor started about his girlfriend cheating on him with his dad the boyfriend went to my high school he was a couple years younger than me and then so whether the rumor is true or not uh my friends and i have talked about it a lot so i've not done my part in dispelling the rumors or not encouraging us to talk about it and you know i'm sorry that uh the damage is done whether it's true or not so that's unfortunate and i'm sorry
Starting point is 01:12:25 Oh, sorry. Okay. It can be cathartic, honestly. I even talked to Matt about it this morning. Yeah, you did. All right, so let's see we got any sorry fraudies here on the Twitterverse. I'll give one more real quick. Please.
Starting point is 01:12:45 Adam Clinton asked me to co-host with him for two hours today, so that means I'm going to be on air for six hours, and I still went out to rodeo cookoff and probably drank more than I should. Adam Clinton, when I have no energy and nothing to provide for two hours on your program today, I'm sorry. Sorry, please forgive me. Seth on Twitter says, I'm sorry I never told my friend I was the one
Starting point is 01:13:07 that blue chunks in his bathroom during his 21st birthday party. Hashtag sorry Friday. Oh, sorry. That's pretty great. To my friend Todd, speaking of that, he graduated from college at the University of North Texas and he got us a limousine to go celebrate his graduation. And the only rule was in the
Starting point is 01:13:28 limousine was to not throw up in the limousine because they were going to charge us several hundred dollars in cleaning fees. Oh. My buddy Ed blew chunks first. I blew chunks second. Because you smelled it. Because I smelled it. Yeah, so that's not your fault. It was a double chunk throwing and for I will respond to my buddy Todd. That's great. And on behalf of Ed and myself, I say, I'm sorry back in we were in our early 20s blowing chunks in your limousine. Wow. You need to be the $300 cleaning fee. That's pretty funny Ross, I'm sorry for making you eat the filet of fish yesterday. It was obviously torturesome for you. It wasn't torturesome?
Starting point is 01:14:11 You know what? I'm sorry I didn't like it more. You talked it up so much. I was like, man, maybe I'm really missing something with this flail fish. It is delicious. And then, no, it just tastes like a big fish dick. What were you expecting? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:14:28 The way you sell it. this wonderful, flaky, buttery, delicious fish filet. Correct. And it's not any of those things. All the above, yes. No. Delicious? No. Buttery?
Starting point is 01:14:37 Flavorful. No. The sauce is delicious. Say you're sorry. No, I did say I'm sorry, but it's greasy and it's not that good. I'm sorry? I'm sorry. McDonald's doesn't make a superior fish product.
Starting point is 01:14:50 And I'm sorry that you, I'm sorry to your arteries that you continue to eat it. I'm going to get my artery check today, so maybe that was my last fish filet. 713-212-5-7-90 Trevor The floor is yours All right So it technically didn't happen this week It happened last week when y'all are in Florida
Starting point is 01:15:14 I have to say sorry to Ross He was out watching Lance And he made a joke that he threw a pitch And he touched his elbow And it was just an itch It was just an itch But I thought it would be funny to go troll The Goobers on the Twitterverse
Starting point is 01:15:28 And I made the mistake of tagging the Astros Not in thinking properly that it could blow back on you. So it's been weighing heavy on my heart, Ross. I'm sorry! Thank you, Trevor. I appreciate you. I understand where you were coming from,
Starting point is 01:15:43 but yeah, I just didn't want to I didn't want to hear anything from the Astros PR department on that. That's the last thing we would have needed. What are y'all talking about? Yeah, I know. So I appreciate you for apologizing, Trevor, and I give you my full-hearted forgiveness.
Starting point is 01:15:59 I'm sorry to the on the the honey farms convenience store at uh Wesley Houston Parkway is that a rhyme Kingwood no it's I just couldn't think of a rhyme Kingwood drive and I asked I went up yesterday I said what are your lotteries what's your lottery game today she goes I don't know they rotate lottery games yeah like Texas two stuff one day what's the one tonight yeah she goes I don't know I said I said don't you think that's part of your job responsibility She goes, You said that to her? I did.
Starting point is 01:16:30 Yeah, you should be sorry. So to that employee? I'm sorry. God. What a... Jeez. I'm thinking if you work at the convenience store, you should know what honor game is.
Starting point is 01:16:44 She should have told you to shut your bum ass up and say Google it. You think, so as I'm saying, I don't think I'm wrong, but sometimes saying sorry is easier than not saying anything at all. Yeah. I guess she should know? Don't you think? What I mean you guess you should know?
Starting point is 01:16:59 If a couple, customer wants to know what's in your store and you are a sales associate and I just ask what's the lottery for tonight? And she goes, I don't know. Maybe she's new. No. She had her elbows on the glass. I said, hi, how are you? And she didn't say a word back to me.
Starting point is 01:17:17 I think that's a weird question to ask them. You were just going to play whatever it was that night? Yeah, which I did. Look, and I got her. How to go? I'm about to find out. Texas two steps right here. I thought Mega Millions was tonight.
Starting point is 01:17:28 No, this is, I got these yesterday. Oh, did you win? I'm about to find out. And if I win... I can't go to the website. It's blocked on my... If I win... For gambling.
Starting point is 01:17:36 I'm leaving the show in about 10 minutes. All right. Let's go. Let's play some. Hashtag, sorry Friday. If you want to apologize for something you've dead this week... I do.
Starting point is 01:17:45 You got more? No, I'm just kidding. I'm good right now. Last call. I apologize for me about to fall asleep. You know what I'm sorry for you making the stupid decision to go to rodeo cook off on Thursday.
Starting point is 01:17:56 You have a six-hour radio show today. What were you thinking? Say sorry to Houston. I took it easy. I'm giving my best efforts. I'm on as much caffeine as possible. Oh, sorry. I'm going to get some more tea.
Starting point is 01:18:12 I'll see you later. 713-212-5-790. We keep in the segment and we're getting rid of it. I like it. I can't do one more. I think it's kind of cleansing, don't you think? 7-1-3-212-5-7-90. If you want to say sorry, give us a phone call.
Starting point is 01:18:28 Give us a phone call. 7-1-3-2-1-2-5-790. or hashtag it Sorry Friday, and you can tell us what you're sorry about. It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross here on Sports Talk 790. More Matt Thomas show with Ross. Now on Sports Talk 790. Rock Textro 21.
Starting point is 01:19:05 I'm sorry that I have no idea what type of fish that is inside the filet of fish sandwich. Hashtag sorry Friday. That is Paddock, as we learned yesterday on the show. Pollock. Paddock or Pollock, same difference. I swear, first of all, you and Dan tried to correct me and say it was Haddock. I was correct that it was Pollock. I believe this is what they call a delicious whitefish.
Starting point is 01:19:29 It was not delicious. At Ben Dubos, I'm sorry in advance to every umpire I'm going to personally slander this year. Hashtag sorry Friday. That's pretty good. Now, what was, uh, what was Connor's verdict on the filial fish? He liked it. Loved it. Once I get in war today.
Starting point is 01:19:46 I don't know about that. I gave it like a six. It's better than I expected, but I think there's other things on the menu. I enjoy more. Literally anything else on that menu. I'm going to tell you this. If I've ever slandered any of you on your food opinions,
Starting point is 01:19:59 I want to say I'm sorry because I think it's really rude people to do that. I'm not sorry. I didn't mean that. I'd rather eat the spent coffee grounds from McDonald's. Okay, I'm just kidding. That's not true. I don't want to criticize you about your music choices. Ha!
Starting point is 01:20:15 Your food choices? your fashion sense? All you do is criticize. You're always, they're the first one to say not to judge and then you're the first one judging, Matt. I'm sorry for saying the phrase sooner rather than later
Starting point is 01:20:28 because I hate that phrase. Why? I'm so sorry. Because it's just stupid. Okay. I'm going to try to say it at least five more times a show. Don't do it. Don't do it. It'll be embarrassing to you. I won't be embarrassed. I'll be embarrassed for you. I'll be saying it, Matt.
Starting point is 01:20:47 Don't do it. No, but. heard you. Jimmy and Tom Ball. What can we do for you today? I need to apologize to the guy who is driving a brand new. It looked like maybe a 24-2-4-Til F-250. He, I parked it, Romwart and Tom Ball to go in and get something.
Starting point is 01:21:13 I was parking in the middle, the back of a parking lot. I don't have to find a spot. Anyway, four to five spots, either side of me, completely empty. go in, get what I need, come back out. He had parked probably six inches away from my truck, and there's still multiple spots to either side of us. So anyway, not malicious, completely unintentional. I go around to one side of the truck to buckle in the four-year-old.
Starting point is 01:21:39 The six-year-old goes to open her door. The wind catches it, flams it into his truck, puts a little dent, and didn't feel the need to leave a note or anything. Kind of felt like it was his fault, but I'm still sorry it happened. Sorry. I'm sorry that Jimmy's story took so long to tell the audience. 790, we're sorry. And he...
Starting point is 01:21:59 I don't doubt, but I'm hungry. He left a dent in somebody's car and didn't do anything about it. But it's Tomball, though. What are you going to do about Tompull? What does that mean? I need to get my dash cam installed. You people are out there driving crazy. Absolutely crazy.
Starting point is 01:22:15 So he said, I'm not going to leave a note for the dent because I've got two children. Yeah. He's basically saying, I got to get the kids in the car and I have time to leave notes. I left, I hit somebody's car once and I left a note and they never called me. I kind of scraped their bumper. That was nice of you. I used to leave sticky notes back in the day when people parked like jackasses.
Starting point is 01:22:38 And I would take the sticky note and I'd say you parked like a jackass and I put it on the windshield. But I don't do it anymore because there are video cameras in most places and I want people chasing me down. Say, did you leave a sticky note on somebody's car? Yes, it was me. I was guilty. I'm sorry. I'm better about it now. I just passively aggressive talking about it on Twitter on my radio show.
Starting point is 01:22:56 At SportsMT. And I'm sorry for that. Oh, sorry. It doesn't seem like you're that sorry. Not really not. JP, your last up. My friend, the floor is yours. I just had to say after watching that Four Nations face off last week,
Starting point is 01:23:13 this is probably the most Canadian segment I've ever heard, and I'll hang up and after that. I'm sorry? I'm sorry? What? I don't get it. He was, I think he's, because, Canada 1, he's saying the I'm sorry.
Starting point is 01:23:28 His segment is very Canadian. He doesn't like it. He doesn't like the segment? I guess not. I'm sorry. We're not saying sorry. At A underscore Matthews, I'm sorry for what U of H is about to do to Cincinnati tomorrow. Oh.
Starting point is 01:23:41 Oh, sorry. What's the line on that one? Probably 34 and a half. At Trade Bregman, I'm sorry to Christian Walker for jumping the gun and calling him Jose Al-2. Jose Ibrayu 2.0 after 100 plate appearances if he struggles. Ooh. Sorry. Damn
Starting point is 01:23:59 1156 All right So let's grade it out guys We've got a minute here before the news at noon We got Jose Altoube playing defense in about 10 minutes Are we keeping this thing Are we cashing or trashing it? I like it
Starting point is 01:24:13 Are we instable? I don't think it's terrible I like it It's a lighthearted second We have four hours to kill every day At least one more week All right Let's get one more week
Starting point is 01:24:24 So let's have a big meeting after show today and let's figure out ways to improve it. I think the sorry Friday... I think I just going to end up apologizing to you every week. You know what? It's maybe just more for me. For you to clench yourself after all the horrific things you have said
Starting point is 01:24:38 over me Monday through Thursday. We're going to try it again next week. I'm sorry, Matt. Sorry for the four... I sorry I couldn't get the Four Nations reference. I'm sorry. I had no clue what that guy was talking about. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:24:49 I'm sorry that Jimmy and Tomball didn't teach his kids better behavior by leaving a note for the dent. The example you said is to hit somebody drive off. Man, I would I do the same thing? Probably. And that is I'm sorry for the week.
Starting point is 01:25:04 The news at noon and Al-Tube and left. Oh, we gotta wait the strippers out. Now, sorry about that. We'll do that in about two and a half minutes here on Sports Talk 790. Launch timers. This is the Matt Thomas show. 1202 in H-Town. Of the Matt Thomas Show and Ross, this is Sports Talk 790.
Starting point is 01:25:53 You sure he doesn't have any flab at all? I don't know. I haven't seen the man's shirtless? It's good. Picks? You haven't seen his Picks? Where's pecks? We don't call him Irvin.
Starting point is 01:26:03 The dude's name is Magic Johnson. Well, in the 80s it was magic until... And nobody ever says anything. You should all let it slide. I'm just looking for a clean, germ-free studio for a few hours. Well, guess what? Poor Wexler, but it's been sucking on that microphone forever. I've been wiping it down every day.
Starting point is 01:26:19 Ballsack Sports? Are you sure? I mean, come on! Where's your head? No, I'm not touching that. He was looking for length. He didn't get the length, but he got the girth. How old is he again?
Starting point is 01:26:28 29? 28. 28? Yeah, he's still in that range. He still can get it. 12.5 is we, the strippers are awake. Ross is not going to make it for four hours. I want you all to listen to the last two hours of the 18 today because it's going to be the worst two hours of the week.
Starting point is 01:26:49 My good friend Lipton is helping me out. What's up? Just listen, four to six. Let me do it. It's going to be a train. I'm going to take it now. Are you really? Should I be this disheveled on TV?
Starting point is 01:27:06 Are we on? No, we're not on TV today, right? Yeah, you are. Yeah. At least the last two hours are going to be on TV. Why don't you go get a haircut and get a clean shave? Maybe dye that bad boy up a little bit? I'm not dying my hair. Put a suit up on.
Starting point is 01:27:17 I could get a haircut. All right. Because over the weekend I was wearing a beanie, and I was like, you know what? Maybe that's the time to cut my hair. All right. How are we doing on the Astros game? Are they underway? Let's see how Jose is doing out there in left field.
Starting point is 01:27:28 started throwing that two seamer in kept guys honest and started getting a lot of more swinging miss broken bats all of those things brown with the one one brown ball left side to his left third baseman parades has it slinks it across in time and there's one away
Starting point is 01:27:50 75 degrees clear skies sunny skies very nice very little humidity 75 degrees that's Steve spark and Robert Ford of course your voices of the Astros who got to play parades yeah third base Okay.
Starting point is 01:28:02 So the reason we're jumping in on this a little bit is because we want to hear how Al-Tubi does in left field. If he does anything. Yes. So far is so good for Hunter Brown. Back to the game. Center fielder. Myer, she'd slightly the other way. Pitch on the way.
Starting point is 01:28:18 That's high. And it's ball one. For Hunter, he can get that fastball up to it. Around 97, 98. That's where he'll top out. But he's one of those pitchers who can maintain that velocity for a lot. for a long time. He could pitch deep in the games.
Starting point is 01:28:35 The 1-0. Fastball, and that's a little bit high, 2-0. He's got a bulldog demeanor. It goes right after him. Pitch great in the playoffs against the Tigers as well. The 2-0. That sails high, three balls at no strikes. Yeah, game two of the Wild Card series last year.
Starting point is 01:28:57 Brown gave up a run over 5-and-two-thirds innings. a no decision. Astros would lose that game, be eliminated from the postseason. Here's the three-o to Donovan. And that is at the letters for a strike. It was Brown's first post-season start in that wildcard game last year. Now, wild-card series. He had pitched previously in the post-season, but all out of the bullpen, and it pitched pretty well for the Astros out of the pin.
Starting point is 01:29:26 Game in Seattle. That's right in 2022. Here's the 3-1. And that zips inside for ball four. So Donovan draws the one-out wall. And we're jumping in on this because we want to hear Jose does something in left field. So far he's been chilling. We're watching the video feed of it.
Starting point is 01:29:51 He is playing rather shallow in left-field, but it is to a left-handed hitter. He's doing great. I think he just scratched himself? Not hurt. And that is a strike on the outside corner, a fastball at 96. Diaz fake like he was going to throw behind Donovan at first base. A little different looking in the left field and seeing Altuve out there. First time he's ever made a start there.
Starting point is 01:30:21 All his starts as a big leger have been at second. Oh, one, that is, off the outside corner. And it's a ball on the strike now to Walker. Joe Espada wanted Al-Tube to get plenty of reps on the back fields before he put him into a game, which is why it took a week's worth of spring training games before we saw Altoube. 1-1.
Starting point is 01:30:44 That is high. Two balls end a strike to Walker. Joe Espato was talking about this today. You can do as much work as you want on the back fields, but it's just really hard to simulate certain sort of game situations that you're going to encounter in the outfield. 2-1. Grounded off the front leg of Walker,
Starting point is 01:31:05 like Joe brought up a broken band. that loop hit into the left field. You know, you can't simulate that. You can hit as many fungos as you want. You can't replicate that. One thing you could do a little bit better here in spring training as far as broken bat hits is here. The bat shatter sometimes or break off of a pitch. In a Major League Stadium, you typically can't.
Starting point is 01:31:31 That's a good point. With the bigger crowds. Walker, ready for a two-two, down of him at first. score one out top of the first. The pitch is strike three call. Frozen with a fastball at 98. Here's the issue, Ross. Jose's getting no work out there. He's bored. He's chewing on his
Starting point is 01:31:49 nails. Isn't this kind of demonstrating our point? Much to do about nothing? Don't you want to get him some, want you want to hear him? Robert make the Altube to the wall goes up. Leaps, makes the grab. What a great spring training snag for one. Left filter
Starting point is 01:32:07 Jose Altuve. I mean, how many plays in an individual game is Jose L. Tuvick have to make in nine innings. So far it's zero through two thirds. Back to West Palm. Long set by Brown. Now the kick on the pitch and the miss is high with a breaking ball, ball one. Got a little better I thought Hunter Brown did as the year went on last year. At first base by holding the ball a little longer from time to time, letting that pitch clock run down to one second.
Starting point is 01:32:37 The one oh. Oh, high. Yeah, Brown got really good at using that pitch clock to his advantage as a year went on. Works on the first base side of the rubber. Two out of Burleson. And that's hit a mile high and foul. Out of play off to the right, two and one. Cardinals camp. Of course, one of the big stories is that Nolan Aronado was still in camp and whether he's going to open the season with them. and the criminals have been trying to trade him. 2-1. Breaking ball drops in for a strike a curve. And part of the reason that the Cardinals want to move Aeronado
Starting point is 01:33:27 is because they have a logjam of young players who can play on the infield that they want to get more time and Berluson is among them. Play first base and the outfield. 2-2, swing and a foul off the side of Burleson. 2-2 still. Of course, there was a report earlier in the off-season about the Astros having a trade for Aronado,
Starting point is 01:33:55 but Aronado choosing not to waive his no trade clause. So staying with St. Louis. Not in there today. Ground will step off. You know, talking to people with the Cardinals, seems like Aronado's been about as professional as you would hope, given everything swirling around him. 2-2, ground ball hit up the middle,
Starting point is 01:34:23 and that's going to get through for a base hit in the start. center field for Berlinson. On his way to third goes Donovan, and the Cardinals have runners at the corners with two out. Snuck it up the middle. Second Baseman Rogers was playing. Man, spring training games can be kind of sleepy, can they? I mean, we carry a fair number of them,
Starting point is 01:34:39 but they're not the most dynamic form of entertainment. It's just baseball, Matt. You miss the roar of the crowd a little bit. You can hear the guy. You can hear the guy. That same guy gets more mic. It sounds like a game in Oakland. Oh, Sacramento now.
Starting point is 01:34:54 I want the crowd will be saying in Sacramento. Sacramento might be better, I would think. I would think they'd fill up $13,000 a game, wouldn't you think? If you're Sacramento. What else is there in Sacramento? It's not a bad town. Okay, what are the major attractions?
Starting point is 01:35:06 The zoo. Yeah. Back to the game. If he loses this batter Herrera here, we might see somebody up in the bull pit. Still waiting for Eltonuade to do something here. That's a strike on the outside corner. And in spring training games,
Starting point is 01:35:23 you can have a pitcher come back the next inning. So let's say the Astros brought in someone to get the final out of this inning in relief for Brown. They could bring back Brown for the second inning if they so chose. Something you can only do in an exhibition
Starting point is 01:35:39 baseball. Herrera uses his timeout. It's Matt Ross here on 7-90, by the way. Home plate umpire Lance Barksdale asking Carrera if he's ready. C.B. Buckner, Ryan Atiton, and Tom Hanahan. The umpires on the bases. 1-1.
Starting point is 01:36:01 That sails down in a way with a fastball, two balls in a strike. Berlisler was going to go at first base. Brendan Donovan, the runner at third. 2-1. And that's a little high. Three balls in a strike. Looks like Browns...
Starting point is 01:36:24 It's out of way high. We're trying to sell this, aren't we? This is great. It's baseball, Maddie? I like doing that. We should do this every day, I think. Like a mystery science theater, 3,000? Like a mystery,000?
Starting point is 01:36:34 Robert and Steve do a good job, good storytellers, good describers of the game. 3-1 to Herrera. And that misses low ball, force. Sheesh. He's his second walk here. Come on, Hunter. Hunter, you get the bases are loaded here.
Starting point is 01:36:47 What's going on? Come on. All right, let's take a break. We can play the end of the half-ending, right? No, they're going to make a pitching change. Wait, they are? Have you not been listening? No.
Starting point is 01:37:00 Oh, maybe there's just a pitching coach. Yeah, it's a mountain visit, as they call it, Matt. All right. The reason we're doing this today is because in case I want to hear how Jose he does in his first. opportunity to play left field. Hopefully he didn't butcher anything. And so far he's got his hands
Starting point is 01:37:14 folded across his chest. Yes. He's picking his fingernails chewing on a little bit as he's normally done throughout his entire major league career. Uh-huh. The news at noon will be coming up in a few minutes a little later. Well, the news at 1220.
Starting point is 01:37:27 Okay. We have E. May Doca at 1 o'clock today. Wonderful. We have non-forrestories at 1.30. Oh, wow. And believe it or not? And 150, hell yeah or not. What is the category is?
Starting point is 01:37:37 Wait, are they warming somebody up? Where's it just a mound visit? This is Mount Visiting. We're not doing Ole Miss women today on a hellier or not. It's not happening. What about Old Miss Dads? St. Thomas Dads? I'm a St. Thomas Dad.
Starting point is 01:37:55 Move on Hernandez. Luke on, Hernandez. Back to the game. As a two-way player? Yeah. He was a great pitcher. The 1-0. That is at the knees for a strike.
Starting point is 01:38:11 I mean, he has the look of a big burly first basement D.H type. Yeah, he was. Great pitcher. A pitcher actually drafted by the Astros late out of high school, then went to TCU, only pitched his freshman year. A lot of dealing with some injuries. 1-1. Hit sharply up the middle on one hop right at the second basement, Rogers,
Starting point is 01:38:30 who is the right of the bag, and he throws out Baker to retire the side. So the Cardinals low-line. All right, there is. Good job, Rogers. That sounded hard hit. and more importantly, Jose Al-Tube, one inning in the books as a left fielder for the Astro Spring Training. By my ear, that was 103.5 off the bat.
Starting point is 01:38:47 All right. Up next, the news at 1222, Sports Talk 790. Back to Matt Thomas and Ross Villarreal. On Sports Talk 790. All right, let's give away another set of tickets for University of Houston versus the Kansas Jayhawks. Wow, what a game. And that'll be Monday night at 8 o'clock at Fortita Center. part of Big Monday.
Starting point is 01:39:25 Let's go Cougars. The University of Houston made the final four in 2021. We got our ass kicked by Baylor, and I understand that. It was in Indianapolis. It was a great trip. It was still during the COVID time, but so at a good time. Well, you have to beat somebody to get to the final four, right? Uh-huh.
Starting point is 01:39:43 Who did the Cougars beat in 2021 in the Elite 8 game to win the final, to go to the final four? It was Hofstra. It was not Hofstra. But as funny as you say that, they did play Hofstra. in the tournament. They did? Yes. I kind of just pulled that name out of a hat. I would say out of your ass, but that's a different
Starting point is 01:40:01 issue for a different time. So, who did the Cougars beat in the Elite 8 to win the South to represent that part of the final four in 2021? You remember who it was? If you do,
Starting point is 01:40:17 713-212-5-790. Those of you on home want to talk some sports, we'll do that, by the way. By the way, we're doing live listen-ins. We're not carrying the game in full because it's spring training and it will be on tape delay that was programming's decision not ours yeah we did not make the decision not to put the game on so we're here to talk to you guys but if something relevant happens with hose and left field we want to let you hear it so for connie who gets mad for us for talking during it we were not talking over the broadcast we were talking in between it so connie with all due respect have a lovely day yeah i'm so proud of you
Starting point is 01:40:50 wow i want to give you a hug that was a great moment matt but that would say Time for the news at noon. It is. Oh, I, yeah, I'll go to the news and noon, please. Yeah. I gave a question to, and Connor to know the answer. I was like, I forgot to tell you the answer.
Starting point is 01:41:07 Sorry about that, Connor. Sorry, I got choked up about it. Yes, Matt, at the, on the news at noon, we will lead with the Houston Astros. As you just heard it, no plays in left field for Jose Altuve in that first inning. So much ado about nothing at this moment talking about him playing out there, but the Astros are in action.
Starting point is 01:41:31 Jose Altuve is supposed to get five innings of work in left field. So far, so good. I have nothing to add. He did nothing but just chew his fingernails. You think he was great? It was fine. What did you see from him out there, Matt? Aggressiveness, energy, a willingness to do anything to help us team. Okay. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 01:41:52 And we'll move along with the news at noon as we'll talk about the Houston Rock. They're in action tomorrow against the Sacramento Kings. People are calling this a must-win game tomorrow, Matt, at the Toyota Center. It is not a late-night start, or is it? No, 7 o'clock. Yeah, regular 7 o'clock start for the Houston Rockets. Every game down the stretch is a must-win. The Western Conference standings are convoluted hot mess right now.
Starting point is 01:42:18 I get it, and you don't want to lose any ground any of the teams that are in front of you, or behind you for that matter. Rockets have won five of the last seven, Matt. prediction gut feeling does fred van vleet return to the lineup no saving for okloma city next monday night moving along matt with some more news reportedly texas a and m has agreed to a huge multimedia deal with play five sports five years i'm excuse me 15 years 515 million dollars have a billy. $34 million annually, the biggest deal in
Starting point is 01:43:03 college athletics. NIL money attached to that to help play fly take care of some of that issues. A&M just continues to get cash flush, good for them. And if I'm an Aggie fan, I'm certainly very fired up about that an outside marketing company wants to spend all the money in our school,
Starting point is 01:43:23 he's got to start translating in some wins. Football-wise. No disrespect. to the baseball team that won to the championship last year. No disrespect to A&M who's going to be in the tournament this year for basketball. But this bad boy was predicated on winning football games, like 10 of them, 11 of them, and winning an SEC championship eventually. Seems like they have to win a national championship to kind of make these dollars roll in and make it worth it for our good friends at Play 5.
Starting point is 01:43:48 All right, Matt, moving along with the news at noon, Stefan Diggs is suing Mulan Hernandez for alleged extortion. According to Moulon Hernandez, there was an incident a few months ago where she was concussed by the former Houston Texan, possibly future Houston Texan as well. Diggs says that Moulon Hernandez showed up at his residence at 6 a.m. after she was out partying. This is in the midst of a casual relationship for several months. According to TMZ, she was asked to leave, but decided to ignore Diggs' request, went on to destroy his property, including a gaming PC, tossed his phone in the toilet, and broke a $130,000 watch.
Starting point is 01:44:34 Oh, you know what? His PlayStation was worth $150. It was the watch. It was worth $150,000. $130,000. Yeah. I misread the story. Hernandez, according to claims by Diggs,
Starting point is 01:44:46 punched him in the chest several times, told him he won't be playing this year. So a lawsuit filed by Diggs. Moulon Hernandez has made a statement on via Instagram. basically saying the truth is going to come to light, and this is Diggs trying to get ahead of a story because she's going to have some legal filings on her side. Has athletes gone ahead and hired legal representation to get ahead of a story?
Starting point is 01:45:09 Yes. Has there been a case of she said went wrong? Yes. Has there been a case where he said went wrong? Yeah. I mean, I have absolutely zero opinion about this. It just sounds like it's going to be. It's pretty messy.
Starting point is 01:45:21 Yeah. You weren't there. I weren't there. We can't pick a side in this because we just don't know, unfortunately. Yep. But she claims it is a fabric. complicated story and the truth will come to late. She also said via Instagram,
Starting point is 01:45:32 I will not be intimidated nor silenced. And that's your news and new. Thank you very much. By the way, late word, Isak Peretti is just gone deep for the local nine. Home run to left field. One nothing. Astros. Home run to Cardinals.
Starting point is 01:45:47 Isak Paratus, that's what we want to hear all year long. Christian Walker, too, for that matter. He's been mashing. Let me tell you something. You want to talk about great value this year? How about getting Crawford box tickets on a regular for the Astros? You might want to bring a catcher's mask and a couple gloves. You might want to bring like a basket, put all the baseballs in here, bring it home with you.
Starting point is 01:46:07 So there you have it. That's the news. Thank you very much. We have our winners for our cougar tickets. A lot of people call in and Conner's looking at the names. The question was who the Cougars beat to go to the final four in 2021, the Elite A championship? The answer was, Conno way of winner, I'm assuming as I can say the name. Yes, it's in your email, but I'll say it.
Starting point is 01:46:29 That's Mark in League City and then Andreas and Houston. All right, very good. Oregon State Beavers, they won. Are they beat the Beaves? Yeah. And did beat Hofstra in the mix, too. So when you just flippantly said Hofstra, you were somewhat close. No, they didn't.
Starting point is 01:46:46 I see Cleveland State Rutgers, Syracuse, Oregon State. Oh, is that when they went to the final four and they didn't beat a single-digit? No, no, no, no, no. You know what? Let me back back. They played Hofstra in the non-conference. Oh. November 9th, they beat Hofstra at 8375 in a game that I did.
Starting point is 01:47:06 Oh, so they scheduled Hofstra. That makes more sense. Yeah, that was when they didn't beat a, they beat a bunch of double-digit seeds, and then the second they played a team that wasn't a double-digit seed, they lost, correct? All I know is that we played the teams in front of us and we beat them all. I just ask you. What other people do and how to get the brackets their own deal? I'm not saying anything.
Starting point is 01:47:30 I'm just laying out facts. double-digit seeds and single-digit seed time to take your L. Cougars. Connie, are you listening right now, Connie? Go attack Ross. I think the coup- I'm telling you, get to New Orleans
Starting point is 01:47:50 so I can put my futures back. I'll be there on Wednesday. I think they're winning it all. I'll say. Or Auburn. I think it's Auburn or U of H is going to win it all. You're probably right. All right.
Starting point is 01:48:00 They're going to the bottom of the second, so the Astros have already played defense in the second thing, so we missed that. I'm looking to play by play. Second inning for the Cardinals. Let's see. Ground out to first, ground out to first, ground out to shortstop. How is Jose going to learn anything if you can't get a ball to the left field?
Starting point is 01:48:25 More when we come back. 1232. Sports Talk 790. 7.13-212-5-79 if you want to jump in. 7-1-3-212-5-7-90. Lunch timers. It's the Matt Thomas show with Ross. on Sports Talk 790.
Starting point is 01:48:44 2020, 2,2, and that's hammered. Deep to left field and sends back a Perniac, and he will just watch that one go. Into the Astros bullpen for Isok Paredes, his first home run of the spring, and it's 1-0-0 Astros. Oh, get used to that. That's his pull.
Starting point is 01:49:02 Power from Esauk Paredes. Three words for you, Ross. Alex Bregman, who? Yeah! I like that. Isak for life. Or at least for one year. We'll see.
Starting point is 01:49:21 He's under team control for a while. If there's anything that helps him is he's under team control. He has to, I mean, he's going to give you much more value at an arbitration salary than what Alex Breggman would at $30 million. And you have to make up for that elsewhere, which they're trying to do with Christian Walker and others. By the way, Big Mike says since the game isn't on, can we get to see you later from Sports RV? Go ahead and hold on. I want you to, Connor, really play the call. Okay.
Starting point is 01:49:47 And then you follow up when you think you should say, see you later. All right. Here it is. 2023, 2, 2, and that's hammered. Deep to left field and sends back Coperniac, and he will just watch that one go. See later. For Esauk Paredes, his first home run of the spring,
Starting point is 01:50:03 and it's 1-0-0-0-0. Perfect. I'll get used to that. We will. That's his pull. Power from Essoc Paredes. Watch that one go. That's the other.
Starting point is 01:50:12 Do you think, I wonder if Robert's a signature. see you later till the regular season. No, he knows if he will watch that one go to. But yeah, you don't want to go full on see you later for a spring training game against the Cardinals, do you? Not midweek, or this is Friday. Like, I don't use nothing but I'll
Starting point is 01:50:28 on during the preseason. You don't? No, you keep it in the back pocket? I didn't know that. Yeah. I mean, I always listen to every minute of the preseason broadcast. And for that, I thank you. Hmm. Well, I think you do a great job on the call, Matt. Yeah, we're trying. But yeah, you have, I don't think you want to bring out the A list. I don't, like, If it's a West Coast game against, I don't know, Sacramento,
Starting point is 01:50:47 I'm not even my e-material out. Mike Breen's calling preseason Knicks games. Bang! That's true. He's not doing that. But yeah, I think broadcasters, you got to pick and choose your spots. Okay. Like, if you want to use your, you have your great lines,
Starting point is 01:51:05 you want to save them for the big games out of a huge audience. You know, and the West Coast game against, I don't know. Portland wouldn't necessarily be the one I want to put out my E-list material. still want to call the game effectively, but you want to make big theatrics, unless the game itself. Like the Rocket Spurs Internight, there was no theatrics to it. It was just a good old-fashioned ass kicking for two hours and 25 minutes. Was I calling a funeral?
Starting point is 01:51:29 Well, it was, you know what it was? It was calling a Sunday stroll is what it was. And they strolled through the Spurs, thankfully. Yeah, yeah. I was honestly a little worried. Well, the rockets had been, jazz. Yeah, the Rockets didn't have been playing well on back-to-backs. 1239.
Starting point is 01:51:43 It's an anything goes fronty here on the Matt Thomas show. We've got EMA Doke at 1 o'clock. Non-Flority Stories at 130. And hell, yeah, or not today at 150. Can't wait. And then you get two more hours of you later today. Woo! I'm going to take a nap.
Starting point is 01:51:59 I'm going to, you don't need your nap couch. No, I'm leaving after the show right after. You should take a nap in there. It's good. I will. I'm at least going to rest my eyes. I don't know if I'll fall asleep. Resting your eyes usually means you're going to fall asleep.
Starting point is 01:52:11 I'm going to try. It's good. And then I'm going to have probably a Red Bull right before. I need to give Adam Clinton my best. And I'm going to race home to watch you on television, see how you look. Oh, God, I've got to fix my hair or something. Oh, my God. I'm in sweatpants and a stained hoodie.
Starting point is 01:52:28 We can't take you out in public anywhere, can't we? You really can't. Okay. There is an NFL rumor out today. Okay. Look, people are picking up on people not want good wood from me on the, on the, when Sparks says good one. When does he say that?
Starting point is 01:52:49 He does. I know. Just kidding. Okay. Debo Samuel. Former, not former. He's a current San Francisco 49er.
Starting point is 01:52:58 D'Meek O'Ryan's a former defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 40s. Yes. Now who's putting this out? Jordan Shultz. Starbucks boy? We just call him Starbucks boy. I call him Starbucks Biotch. Rarroggs Biatch.
Starting point is 01:53:11 The heir to the Starbucks fortune? He's a lucky Murn Club member. Well, we all are, Matt. Not, not, well, some are more than others. Some are luckier than others. But we should all be thanking our fathers and mothers. For putting us on Earth, of course. But again, I'll stand by my statement.
Starting point is 01:53:32 The sheer odds that you're here, Matt. It's billions and billions. Okay. But go ahead. He's in the, why, he's in the elite lucky club, is what you're saying. Go look at Debo's numbers, if you can do. that. I don't think.
Starting point is 01:53:47 He's been hurt. I don't think they're nearly as sexy as they were, say, three or four years ago and he was one of the top three receivers in the week. He is 29 years old, and we're kind of seeing, like, people giving up on receivers around that age. It's almost like running back, so certain extent. Depending. I mean, that's why Jerry Rice is the greatest football player of all time.
Starting point is 01:54:04 But anyways, he has not had a thousand-yard receiving season since 2021. That's kind of alarming. He played 15 games last year? And caught how many passes? 51 for 670 and three touchdowns. I thought he was hurt all year.
Starting point is 01:54:25 I mean, that's... Because I knew his production is way down. Let me ask you this. And I don't throw draft picks around very much, but could you get him for a sixth? I don't think. Let's see what is. What's the course of the money matters on this. And the Texans are they are close to the cap.
Starting point is 01:54:45 Now, they have workarounds. They can make some restructurings, I think. But where's his contract on the reference page? I hate this. You talk about. Debo, to me, the Debo four or five years ago, scary triple threat. Runner, good receiver, decent blocker for a guy his size. But I look at the Niners the last couple of years,
Starting point is 01:55:09 and I don't think prolific moving the ball down the field offense with a deep downfield threat. Mm-hmm. Yeah, three-year $72 million contract that this upcoming year will be the last year of. So he'd be coming here looking to get a new contract, which guys tend to like to play for an opportunity for an additional contract. I don't think, I mean, he couldn't come here and say, yeah, I'll come to the Texans, but you've got to guarantee me something after that. I don't know. We'll have to see. Trust me, intriguing, but let's not give up the farm for this guy. I would agree.
Starting point is 01:55:49 I mean, for not having breaking down a bunch of Niners tape, but just from game, I don't remember him, like, being open a lot, having a lot of breakout games. Yeah. I mean, it's been George Kittle, Brandon Ayyuk. I don't, and we got 12 seconds left here. I don't think you want to make a deal just because you know somebody. It's about the performance. Yeah, he's a name, but he has not been, like I said,
Starting point is 01:56:10 he hadn't had a thousand-yard season receiving since 21. So at first blush, Ross, not having a deep dive on this, I'd probably go, you know, low round pick. But if you're the Niners, don't you want to at least see what else is out there to see if you can get at least something more than, say, a fifth or sixth? All right, more on this is the afternoon progresses. We've got E-Madeo-Oka in 15 minutes here on Sports Talk, 790. 7-1-3-2-9-0-7-1-3-2-1-2-790.

Starting point is 01:58:07 Listen to Matt Thomas Anywhere with our free IHeartRadio app. Number one for music, radio, and podcasts all in one. You know, like Matt Thomas. Sports Nut, Cheeseball, and Hotel Snob. All in one. Jose Altova has played three outfield innings, Rossi, and he has not had a ball come his way. In fact, the Cardinals with only one ball that had left the infield.
Starting point is 01:58:39 You heard the base hit up the middle in the first inning. He's just standing out there doing not a damn thing at this point. Astros have won nothing over the Cardinals. That's great. So he hadn't hurt the team. You know what? He could drop everything tonight. It wouldn't hurt the team.
Starting point is 01:58:52 He's in spring training. This is where you can. He's learning. You know what? Maybe we do. We want him to have eight balls played in the field. Maybe this is actually bad. We want him getting work out there and getting an experience.
Starting point is 01:59:04 And it's not happening. Dang, you're right, Matt. Let's get Jose L. Tuvei a couple of line drives. You know what he should do. He should pull a Jake Myers on him and call Jake Myers off on a pop flight of center field. Man, I need to show him what kind of speed I have out of him. Calling off a center fielder? And I'm just like, do you know who I am?
Starting point is 01:59:24 I cover more territory than anybody else in baseball. We do have some breaking news in the NFL. Is it worth a sounder? I would say one. Two? One. Los Angeles Rams and Matthew Stafford have agreed to a restructured contract that keeps him in Los Angeles. The team has announced.
Starting point is 01:59:50 Now, wait just a minute. You mean the whole Schultz-Rapaport fight was over? nothing after all. Does this mean Rappaport was right and there was no meeting? Or does this mean the meeting was fruitless and Jordan Schultz is right? Boy, did you see? He and Rappaport continued to tow that. Now honestly, Traport was.
Starting point is 02:00:10 He doubled down. Was shading Morden Maltz big time. By talking about how great ronkin donuts coffee is. Yeah. Man, he was speaking against his family name. Dang. Jordan's like, I don't care. I'm worth $5 billion.
Starting point is 02:00:28 Just to call him Jordan Starbucks. Jordan Starbucks apparently reported that there was a meeting. Ian Rob Port says that they both have homes in Montana. So maybe it is more realistic than I initially thought that they would just be a chance meeting. That they both summer in Montana. I had some ski resort and they have homes up there. Well, put it this way. Montana is on a very heavily populated state.
Starting point is 02:00:49 If you have high end, if you're of incredible wealth, you're probably going to the same spots. I mean, it wouldn't be, for instance, if you were going, if you were going, if you were going to San Antonio and you wanted to stay up at, what's that high-end property up there? Oh, I'm drawing a blank on it. There's a luxurious property. The Elamode dome? No, a resort. Whatever.
Starting point is 02:01:14 If you lived in a certain area and there was a resort that you knew that celebrities went to and athletes went to, it would be crazy to have them show up at the same place. La Cantera? That's it. That's it. That's the first one that popped up. Sponsored. Yeah, La Cantera.
Starting point is 02:01:27 I'm sorry. La Manana. So if you said I'm going to San Antonio. where you're going to say? I would say that most of the fluent people would stay at Lock and Terror. I'd be at the Hampton Inn. It's nice. I got good breakfast. I had, I said the Hampton in the last night as a matter of fact. Where were you? The light rockets game. I spent the night in the city. Okay. By the way, they charge me $29 for parking. Parkings is ridiculous. And I want to know if it was my fault that I didn't see that on the website or they just kind of sneak that way in on
Starting point is 02:02:04 you. It's ridiculous. The parking you have to pay for hotels in New Orleans. If you want to be on the seawall, most places make you pay as well these days. Right. This parking stuff is ridiculous. $29 plus tax. So it was about $31. You have, think about this.
Starting point is 02:02:20 I could have Ubered to and from my office, left my car here for less or not. If you want to place your car on this piece of pavement, you have to pay us money. Yes. Dang. They're going to what they're calling. They're calling it the cost of real estate. Yeah. It's another way to get us, Matt.
Starting point is 02:02:35 I'm sick of it. I'm sick of it too. We'll see a few challenges in this Marlins and A's game. Any thought initially on ABS at this point? It's a step in the right direction. I would like it full. I'm sure the umpires union disagrees. A lot of the pitchers especially disagree.
Starting point is 02:02:54 A lot of the pitchers disagree. And batters. It isn't crazy that you would think that after all the years of talk about ABS, that there would not be more widespread approval. I'm not saying that it's not, people aren't. benefiting from it. You know, man, I'm just years ahead my time.
Starting point is 02:03:11 I'm like Albert Einstein in the theory of relativity. You know, it's blowing people's mind what I'm saying, but in the end, I'll be right. I got news for you. What? We're never getting full-time ABS. I would disagree with that.
Starting point is 02:03:26 You would disagree or would not? I would. I wouldn't say ever, never. I think this is a step in the right direction. I think it's a compromise, and I think eventually we will get it. Now it might be 10 years. It might be 20 years.
Starting point is 02:03:39 I wouldn't say never. So let's do this. Let's put a little range game on it. Okay. I will say not within the next 10 years. Okay. I will say within the next 14 and a half years. I will take the over on that.
Starting point is 02:03:49 I'll say 15, yeah. I'll talk to you in 15 years. Well, you will. We'll be doing year 30 together. Yeah. I'll come visit you in Huntsville. Why am I going to be in Huntsville? I don't know.
Starting point is 02:04:01 You got a home up there. Oh, you're saying I'm going to retire in the greater Huntsville area. I'm not saying you're in the penal system, Matt. You could have said Corpus Christi. you don't seem like a, you don't like the beach. I like the winds. Okay, maybe I'll see you in Malveston. The sea breeze.
Starting point is 02:04:17 I love Galveston. I know you do. Love Lubbock. Yeah, methheads agree. Special place for you, South of Galveston. The Gulf of America? Perfect. All right.
Starting point is 02:04:33 An hour left to go on this show. It has been, so let's recap how it's done. I haven't crashed yet. You're welcome. This show's been crashing since 10 a.m. There's that cough back again. God's getting you back. It's called karma.
Starting point is 02:04:52 All right. 713212-5-790. 7-1-3-1-2-5-7-90. Busy last hour, we're going to talk to Emaidoka, we believe, in about four minutes. Also, we've got non-floor stories at 130 and hellier and out at 150. Final hour. Matt Thomas shows raw. Straight ahead, this is Sports Talk 790.
Starting point is 02:05:12 Lunch timers. This is the Matt. Thomas show. 101 on Sports Talk 790. We have a lot of things moving here in the final hour of the show today, which will feature an update on what's happening with the Astros again. One-0-0-0. They are in play against the St. Lecois Cardinals and now make it 2-0 in the game as Jimmy Paredes.
Starting point is 02:05:33 Jimmy. I'm going to do that a bunch of this year. Isak Paredes with an RBI single to left field. So he's got two hits today. Both are pulled hits and the Astros have a 2-0 advantage. Brian Bray is pitching now. Raphael Montero pitched earlier today. Hunter Brown started in the Astros of a 2-0-0 lead in the top of the fourth, runners in first and second,
Starting point is 02:05:55 and Joseo Tube still is out there in left field. Something happens with him. We'll be happy to let you know. But right now, let's focus a little bit on what's happening with the local basketball team. Tonight, they're off tomorrow to be back in action against the Sacramento Kings. Looking forward to that. And then a three-game road trip, which will take the rockets to Oklahoma City, take them to Indiana and then New Orleans
Starting point is 02:06:16 and joining us right now for a weekly visit and we say hello to EMA Adoka here on 790 coach Matt Ross, how are you this afternoon? Good, how are you guys doing? No complaints. I just saw a word from Chronicle Beat reporter, Danielle Lerner, that Fred Van Vleet has been cleared for tomorrow's game. That's got to be good for both you and him and the team as a whole.
Starting point is 02:06:37 Yeah, everybody's happy, obviously, to have him back. You know, he's worked hard to be paid. through some of the stiffness and things of that nature and knowing how competitive Fred is. It's good to see him smiling, be ready to get back out there. But guys have done a great job without him. We had our ups and downs, of course, but I think it'll be good for us going forward
Starting point is 02:06:58 with some of the experiences that the guys got. I have to ask you, because it's the obligatory injury question. Is there going to be any sort of minutes restriction on him? How do you feel about him playing back-to-backs in the next couple weeks if that's a case? No, that's why we held him out a little bit longer. to have to avoid certain things. And even he didn't want to come back for a game
Starting point is 02:07:15 and have to miss another game or beyond restrictions. Knowing Fred, that's the thing he does not want to do. We won't jump back and put him in 3840, of course, but no restrictions, anything we need for them we can get. All right. The win against San Antonio was nice. It was an easy one for you.
Starting point is 02:07:32 Those back-to-backs have not been that way. And you and I talked about it before the game about that message being out there, getting off to a fast start. And look, San Antonio, no victor is out. there and Deerrant's kind of just still getting his feet wet but just from a self-evaluation that had to be much more rewarding for you to see your guys go out there and not make it a game as compared to maybe some of those games against some of those other teams and those back-to-backs
Starting point is 02:07:56 naming like Utah last week yeah that was the message that regardless of who's in or out for teams we've struggled at times against teams with some roster line of rotation things going on And so that was a message. It was good to have carryover from Milwaukee. I felt we came out with the right intention in that game as well, with our physicality and playing the way we're capable. And so it was good to do that. I mean, regardless, they still have Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes
Starting point is 02:08:23 and some veterans out there and, you know, Vesel and Castle and Sohan. So you're still playing against a quality opponent. It was good to come out with the right mindset from the start, especially on the second night of back-to-back after a tough Milwaukee game. You know, San Antonio played as well. So we understood the task at hand and wanted to do better than we did against Utah for sure. What is that messaging to the team as far as all the games down the stretch here being very important in the West standings and wanting to keep maybe things light and loose, but also wanting to stress the importance of these? And how much are your scoreboard watching?
Starting point is 02:08:59 Yeah, our message is we put ourselves in a good position. Let's not give it away now. We've had some poor losses, no doubt. Also had some stole some wins as well. you know, don't give away all the, all the work we put in. And so, yeah, the last 24 or so games is going to be some of the hardest basketball guys have to play, meaningful basketball that some of our young guys haven't gone through and take advantage of this opportunity. Like I said, we had a really good start, had a little bit of a falloff with the Alperin injury, and, and obviously Fred being out in Tari and Jabari being out for that stretch of time. So once we're back hold, it's kind of get back to what we did well early in the season.
Starting point is 02:09:36 We know we can do that. We've seen it improved it to ourselves. take advantage the opportunity that's in front of us. Rocket Tech coach, Emi Udoka was here on Sports Talk 790. Just in my eyes, coach, it feels like especially recently,
Starting point is 02:09:49 it's been a tough whistle for Jalen Green. What do you think about the whistle he gets and what are your conversations with him about trying to get to the free throw line and use that as a way to score efficiently? Yeah, for him, it's, honestly, my message to him and everybody is you're going to have to play through some things
Starting point is 02:10:07 until you get the respect of the league. or the officials, it just is what it is. And so some more popular guys might get these calls. We're not going to get that right now. It doesn't stop us from being in attack mode or making the right read when the help comes. But, yeah, it's a little frustrating at times, I'm sure for him, you know, you got to cut on your lip and you didn't get a foul call or whatever and they have to stop the play for blood. And so just continue to be in attack mode. Move on to the next play and understand that you'll get there eventually.
Starting point is 02:10:38 and he's done that in the past where he shot a lot of 3,000 games, and just don't let it be a deterrent, continue to play through, put it behind you, and move on to the next play. So he gets a cut on his lip. You go to the official and say, do you see my man out there? I mean, they can't come back to you and go,
Starting point is 02:10:54 well, that must have been just incidental contact. I can't imagine anything happening out there? I mean, can they just say, coach, I'm sorry, I'll try to get you back next time or what, or something like that? No, the usual are I missed it or it wasn't my call. I wasn't my call. Are you kidding me? I lose my, you know what, over that.
Starting point is 02:11:11 They said that back to me. It wasn't my call. They're all your calls. Different angles or different things. They're looking at different things. So they have a hard job, no doubt about it. But my retort to that is I'm at the opposite end of the court and I can see it. Somebody has to see it from down there.
Starting point is 02:11:26 So like I said, we just try to play through it. And one day when we approve our record and kind of build our names up, we'll get those calls as well. All right. Jabbar, you've used a little bit off the bench. and a little bit in this lineup, depending on back-to-backs and whatnot. How is he adapted to being the first guy off the bench? I mean, all he does is just defend four, you get rebounds at the occasional mid-range and three. And it looks like to me he doesn't seem much ill to it.
Starting point is 02:11:52 I mean, what are your thoughts about what do you have seen from him as a reserve as compared to a starter? I mean, he's professional. He's got high character. And so, you know, everything is a little bit fluid right now because guys are still in the lineup. And obviously, Friday coming back changes. at some, but he's just gone about his business the way he always does. He grinds. He works hard and is trying to improve. And big picture thing that the whole team knows, him included, is that guys, the best guys that are playing the best at that time are going to finish the game.
Starting point is 02:12:23 So not as important who starts. He gives crazy versatility off the bench the way I'm in did in any situation with any lineup. But yeah, continue to do what you do. Build yourself back up after missing those 22 games and understanding you play the right way you'll be in at the end when it counts. Tari's energy is awesome too, especially as he plays and doesn't play those back-to-backs. Is he trying to convince you to get that back-to-back in or does doctors say don't even bother asking a coach about it? Well, we're just trying to be smart. I mean, his minutes have increased. Obviously, he's not on living or anything and the way he impacts the game is so big for us that you just want to be smart.
Starting point is 02:13:02 You know, three more back-to-backs and you don't want to lose something toward the end of the series. and trying to play him in a back-to-back and being in a tough situation as far as the soreness or anything like that. So he's in a good place when he plays and gets the day of rest and we're going to keep it consistent with that right now. Last night, I could have gone to the barbecue cookoff
Starting point is 02:13:19 and said I wanted to watch him being a basketball last night. Are you scoreboard watching it all? I think I've asked you like one time this year, but I'm going to ask you since we're about to hit March here. Can you start doing that or are you still focused on obviously what's ahead of you? And that's obviously the most important thing. yeah i mean you you obviously around this time and the standing is being so close you know a lot of teams
Starting point is 02:13:40 are game apart two games apart um you need to um obviously know what's going on around you but at the same time take care of your own business and not have to worry and need help from somebody else and so for us it's getting back to playing the way we were like i said being whole again will help for sure but um you got to handle your own business and not just hope for help and and hope somebody else loses because you gave one away. And so you take care of business and let the chips fall where they may. And my biggest message to everybody has been being healthy and playing good basketball at that point in the season in April is more important than standing. So I've been on several teams that have done great as a seventh seed or lost as a number two seed.
Starting point is 02:14:19 And so playing the right way is more important. Obviously, we put ourselves in a good position to make moves and have home court advantage to us take advantage of that and not give it away at the end. five points for him in Thompson in the last game. Can you just talk about the evolution of his offensive game? He was making a couple of Hakeem post moves with his footwork. I was impressed with that.
Starting point is 02:14:44 What has that been like for you guys as he's been playing more teams know to kind of back off of his jump shot but still try to get him to score efficiently? Yeah, I think he's continuing to grow as a player. On the ball, off ball, the things he did last year. He kind of has everything in his memory bank. where he can be a screener and roller and obviously handle and do the things he does natural as well. So for him is to continue to grow, understand how teams are guarding him with different positions, different matchups for him.
Starting point is 02:15:14 And once he kind of sees those things, he goes through it. And he's obviously got it, like I said, in his memory bank, and he can use those to an advantage. So for him, it's figuring out, you know, being a point guard when Fred's not in there, understanding that he has to get other guys shots. And because he can get to the pain and his kickouts were great against San Antonio. the other night. So, yeah, he just continues to evolve and become that threat. It's much harder to stop a guy
Starting point is 02:15:38 when you want to give him that space, but he keeps taking it up and eating that space up in these athletic enough to be at the rim or fine guys. And so take the shots you want to take now what they want you to take and be an attack mode at all times. Full roster, it feels like tomorrow. It'll be a great sign. Thank you for the visitors. Always coach and we'll see you tomorrow. Get ready for the Kings
Starting point is 02:15:54 and Rockets at TOTA Center. Thank you. You got it. You may doke with us here on the radio program. of Stories coming up in about 19 minutes. Matt Thomas, Ross Villariel. It's the Matt Thomas Show with Ross on Sports Talk 790. Let's go check in on the after's work, Rick.
Starting point is 02:17:48 Fifth inning, Jose Al-2-Base still on left field. Good routine. What he needed to do today's leading up to a game and how much rest he needed. He said he's felt as good as he, ever had. First stage. First pitch of Jordan Walker at the knees for a strike. Walker has struck out twice today. Enjoy the premium experience at Dyken Park with group and sweet tickets.
Starting point is 02:18:11 Go to Astros.com slash groups or Astros.com slash sweets. The O-1. And that's grounded foul off to the left over by the Houston dugout. And it's nothing in two. So much of being successful in baseball is coming up with a routine that works for you, is it? talking about Taylor Scott and now time called by Walker
Starting point is 02:18:39 you can start talking about which comes first the results are your confidence and I think a lot of players realize after a while that you can gain a lot of confidence just from your preparation 0.2 that is low 1 and 2 Scott works from the third base side of the rubber
Starting point is 02:19:11 rudder goes the pitch swing and a miss and that's a strikeout of Walker to end the inning. Walker strikes out for the third time today. And Taylor Scott works around a two out hit to put up a zero. And after four and a half... All right, that's it. I think...
Starting point is 02:19:27 I think Jose Al-Tube's done. I mean, it's five innings. How many plays that he made? I think the answer is zero. I'm going to look to the old play-by-play. Where the PXP is, the kids call it. Yeah, I don't think there's anything in anything closest direction.
Starting point is 02:19:43 Dang. By the way, there is a number that I Are you holding on to your hats here for a second? No. I'm about to give you some bad news. Okay. And we tried to have a February meeting of this group, and so far the late February results aren't great. Okay. Jake Myers ate at bats this year in the spring.
Starting point is 02:20:10 Oh, that's fine. Spring's not everything? No, it's nothing. Very small sample size? Very, very small. He was crushing it in spring training last year. Five strike hits. That's okay. That's good. He's saving all his hits for the season.
Starting point is 02:20:26 Great job, Jake. We appreciate you. Yeah, grinding out to first, grounded out to shortstop, ground out to first. This is a whole hill of nothing. Not a single play to left in five innings. Maybe. We're going to be okay. So you're saying nothing's going to... Wait a minute, there's plenty of right-handed hitters in Major League Baseball that are going to pull the bait. They're going to pull it to left field.
Starting point is 02:20:49 They're going to pull it to Issoc Paredes, Matt. They're going to pull it to the vacuum cleaner, Jeremy Pena. It is interesting that Esac Paredes has two hits today, and they were both to the left field. One was out of the yard, and one was a base hit to the left field. It's just a spring training. You know, we got nobody to send us one single one. You didn't ask for it, really. Not in earnest.
Starting point is 02:21:09 You could have floated it. I floated, but didn't get a real good vibe from it. We're running out of games. We're down like 20 games left. We've got a lot of voice talents up here. Yeah, we cut some the other day and I haven't heard one yet. 122 on Sports Talk 790. 713-212-5-790 if you want to get in non-Florida stories coming up at eight minutes.
Starting point is 02:21:32 And then we've got, what is today's edition of Hellier or not? No idea. Port St. Lucie? They're not important to St. Louis. They were yesterday. You're really going to do all things Port St. Lucy, Florida? I don't know. all things out rodeo barbecue cookoff women there are hot believe it women there are super hot hell yeah believe
Starting point is 02:21:53 it i mean the tightest genes you'll ever see in your life so let's go back to what we're talking about the opening the show today you believe the best collection of what we have in our city was found the best of houston was found at that in the cookoff absolutely unbelievable stuff you think i'm wrong no i don't think you're wrong i i saw the evidence on the on the Facebook. I'm talking about the conglomeration of talent in one place in Houston, Texas. Over the white linen. Yes.
Starting point is 02:22:27 Over a Astros playoff game. Yes. I would agree with you. Again, the Astros World Series game? Rockets of Western finals? This is a lot of talent there, too. It's funny. I'm not a lie to you.
Starting point is 02:22:45 So why do the, why do the attractive people, of Houston come out and play when it's big events. Can they just show themselves all 12 months the year? I would say mostly the attractive women end up with rich men. Yeah. And these women that go to these, the cook-off things, they only wear these little hoochy outfits during the... They're not necessarily hoochy out.
Starting point is 02:23:04 Well, some of them had some very short shorts on. The short shorts have gotten shorter, by the way. Have they not? I'm not crazy on that. I mean, it's insane. It is... We have common friends. We're out there yesterday, and they were having a great time.
Starting point is 02:23:22 I believe the term is ass meat. There was some of that on full display. Well, there was some of it that would be like fatty brisket, and they would be like lean Chateau-Briand. The lean or the moist? Mike and Sherland on the Matt Thomas show with Ross. Mike, good afternoon. Thank you for holding what's on your mind today.
Starting point is 02:23:48 All right, two quick ones. Are you going to do the rodeo this year? No. Me neither. And then what about the asteros? What do you, what's your take on it? Normally, I'm in the classroom, so I don't get to hear your take. So I'm all yours.
Starting point is 02:24:01 What are you going to happen? Are you not in class right now? No, we've got a work day. Oh, are the kids off of school? Right. Wait, you have an in-service on a Friday? That's terrible. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:24:15 And they fill a full of all sorts of BS while they're at it. Yeah, what do you teach? Chemistry. Damn, you're smart. most of the time explain to Matt the Krebs cycle no don't explain it to me that's biology
Starting point is 02:24:31 oh see he got you what's a covalent bond I'm not taking it I teach it you know what Mike don't explain anything to you get your ass in the classroom Ross whatever I haven't taken chemistry
Starting point is 02:24:48 20 years highest science I ever took I took a year that was remedial correct at the community college? I took biology one, biology two, and then I took a year of half astronomy and half Earth science of, not Earth science, um, when you, oceanography.
Starting point is 02:25:08 And then you cheated your way through astronomy. In college, I did. I had a terrible astronomy teacher in high school, too. I hated that bitch. Whoa, geez. Gosh, she was mean. Mm-mm-mm. It sounds like, I don't even know Mike, Mike sounds like a great guy that I want him.
Starting point is 02:25:26 I want him to be my chemistry teacher. Because he's like, he's like, it's Friday. It's a beautiful day outside. Why don't want to be in-service? I don't want any part of that. All right, so his answer. He does question. Okay.
Starting point is 02:25:42 88, 74. They're going to hit. 88 and 74? Yep. They're going to hit. They're going to hit. They're going to hit. Then they should win more than 88 games.
Starting point is 02:25:53 I think they're going to hit enough. I think there's going to be a little regression in the starting rotation. Somebody is not going to be nearly as good as they were last year. Whether that's, I mean, whether that's Arogati is back to what he was, where he was good at one half and not so good to the other. I'm buying the arugetti stock. Hunter Brown, a little bit of regression. Murnell Blanco.
Starting point is 02:26:13 Somebody's got to be better, too. And I think it's going to be a nail biter. I'm worried about 7-8-9. I'm worried a little bit about starting rotation. I'm not worried about the bullpen. Okay. Not worried about defense. Altube thing to.
Starting point is 02:26:28 me is going to be, I think, largely overblown. Okay. 88 wins. And a mad dashed in the final week before the American League West. Vegas total is 86 and a half.
Starting point is 02:26:42 Yeah. And there's a plus one and a half because I'm a homer. So, yeah, 88. Fangraphs projecting 84 wins. 84 will not get them in the playoffs. Baseball prospectus has them at 88. Okay.
Starting point is 02:26:59 But they also have Texas at 90. So they must be very bullish on the American League wise as a whole. Not if nobody's winning more than 90 games. It can't be that bullish. No, no, no, no, no. And then I think Zips had the Astros at, that's another projection. I know, Matt. We'll have AOs out of our A, you know what, this year.
Starting point is 02:27:24 I think they have the Astros at 84 as well. Or no, they have 90? I would say this. If you're a betting man and you see an Astro number at 9. 90 I would take the under. 86 and a half, I believe, is the number. Okay, so I would say a slight lean towards the above over, but I wouldn't be like putting a large amount of money on it.
Starting point is 02:27:45 Okay, in a nutshell, for my man, Mike, who's teaching classes, ain't scared about L2 being left, it is what it is. Wouldn't like you losing a gold glove at second. I looked at the Krebs cycle, by the way. It's biochemistry, so I'm taking half credit because there's acids in there or something. If you would have told me what the Krebs cycle was, there's no chance in the world I would have known what it is. You know what you had to do real quick?
Starting point is 02:28:11 We could do, is this a chemistry term or not? You can do that for believe it or not, hell yeah or not. Okay. Like if you said Krebs cycle, I would have thought, I wouldn't have an answer for you. I don't remember what it was. I just remember that term from high school. That's because you actually took high school much more serious than I did. That's not true, actually.
Starting point is 02:28:30 Only my senior year. You got into Texas, though. That's the old. So I was not top 10% of my class until senior year. And then I had basically perfect grades in my senior year. Because look where you went. I mean, a 2.7 gets you in the top 10% of class in Nimitz. That's not accurate.
Starting point is 02:28:46 Oh, my God. A lot of smart people there. Alden is the Galveston of high schools. Oh, whatever. Made Creek is where dreams go to die. I don't want to hear it. I love my dream. No, you didn't.
Starting point is 02:28:59 You're not hosting the prices right. But I'm on the Hall of Honor. That's great, Matt. I'm proud of you. I know. I mean, it's pretty lean, obviously. Pretty slim pickings. That is true.
Starting point is 02:29:14 All right. Non-Florida Stories is up next. Quick update. Al Tuvae is still in left field. In the sixth? He hadn't touched the ball. All right, so let's do this. Let's check in with him when we come back,
Starting point is 02:29:26 and then we'll go to non-flora stories. So that's the next segment, the Matt Thomas Show, Ross at 1.30 on 790. Lunch timers. Lunch timers. Lunchtime. It's the Matt Thomas show with Ross on Sports Talk 790. We find interesting stories that occur outside the state of Florida
Starting point is 02:29:47 and share them with the people of Houston. It's time for non- All right, I'm helping out Ross here. I'm going to do it on a live or dead, hellier or not today. So I'm going to have to go first because I've got to start working on this a little bit. Yeah, go ahead. So I'm going to go first and, well, you guys will take it from there. This is a weekly event we do on the radio program that you give you interesting stories about what's happening in the world outside of the state of Florida.
Starting point is 02:31:01 Last week we were in Florida so we could do Florida stories, but we don't do it now. There's a gentleman by the name of Nath Wilde, W-Y-L-D. He has an Instagram account, let you figure out where it is later. I'm good. He is a foreburn carpenter from the continent known as Australia. He has found a new racket of making cash on his Instagram accounts. Explain. He makes fart videos.
Starting point is 02:31:38 He explained to a Metro Nath newspaper that even eats foods that he knows will make him bloated to ensure he's able to perform. I specialize in making fart videos, explains in the article. In fact, I make about 3,000 AUD a month from them alone. Australian dollars? Yeah, Nath started working out as a topless waiter. He soon began getting more. A topless waiter. He's built.
Starting point is 02:32:07 This is a male? Yeah, he's built. They got Thunderford down under restaurants down there? Yeah, look at him. Let me show you picture. I'm good. I mean, there's no body found in that bad boy. He's got abs that just won't quit.
Starting point is 02:32:21 Is that what you're saying? thing? Oh my God. He says he soon began eating more and more popular on his social media page. It was not long before Nath moved on to OnlyFans deciding to, quote, give it a shot. Wow. At the start, it was very tame, just photos of me semi-naked and short videos of me posing, just a little bit raunchier than what you could post on Instagram.
Starting point is 02:32:47 Soon enough, I was making enough to leave my carpentry job. My God. Not having to work eight hours a day and commute was a huge bonus. Now I have the freedom to work from home. I'm reading, I was blown away, no pun intended by the demand that I've been making them ever since. So he was asked how exactly it works. Nath explained that requests vary with some followers wanting to see his facial expressions. In terms of angles, people have specific things they want to see, like close-ups versus full view.
Starting point is 02:33:18 Or maybe just since staying clothed the whole time. Some people want me to spread my cheeks, while others are the opposite. it. Some want to see my facial expressions, other just want to see me from far away. During the shoot, there's a routine. I start bloated, kind of part of the process, and go through the video until I feel lighter by the end. It's almost like clockwork now. A big meal is needed to be bloated and gassy, and after that comes naturally. So if you're thinking about a stay-at-home job, which we'll all, you know, my commute's 37 miles each way every day. Beans are cheap and full of fiber
Starting point is 02:33:55 and protein. So the question I would ask the two of you is, would you pay money to watch me pass gas? No, I wouldn't pay money to watch you pass gas, Matt. And that, my friends, as I check out for the rest of the Senate. There's no way he's making a living on this. There's no way. Nath reveals he earns over 200,000 AUD a year through his content
Starting point is 02:34:19 with his fart videos apparently making up about 20% of his profits. I'm calling BS on that on his BMs. I mean, I don't know. I mean, if he lifts his leg one day, one direction lifts in the other, if he squats, I mean, there's a variety of different ways
Starting point is 02:34:36 you could shake things up. That would be $200,000 Australian dollars is $125,000 American dollars. I don't know what the cost of living is over there in Melbourne or whatever. Mm-hmm. And that was my non-floor story. Thank you, Matt.
Starting point is 02:34:53 Connor, you can go next. We won't meet you. I'll go. We'll go to Bogota, Colombia. Oh, Bogota. Yes, where police apprehended a 40-year-old man attempting to smuggle several bags of cocaine concealed beneath a toupee. Police said the suspect... Cocaine in Colombia?
Starting point is 02:35:15 Oh, yeah, shocker, but the... This is unbelievable. Yeah, I know. It was hidden under the toupee. It's a lot of cocaine. Police said the suspect was detained at an airport on Monday, as the man prepared to board a flight to Amsterdam. A scanner revealed the hidden cargo.
Starting point is 02:35:30 220 grams of cocaine packed in small bags, strategically placed under what authorities described as a narco wig. Police estimate the street value of the drugs at approximately 10,000 euros. So, cocaine under a wig in Colombia. They're wild over there. Thank you, Connor McGovern. I will go next. and I will tell you that alarms have been raised
Starting point is 02:35:57 over the legitimacy of an event that officials say, quote, is an event that does not exist. Now, we talked about this earlier, I think, in the week. Was it you talking about this, Connor McGovern? Fire Fest, too. Oh, yeah. Is apparently back as that criminal that ran the first one, whatever his name was, is out of jail
Starting point is 02:36:21 what is this guy's name again? Billy McFarland Officials in Mexico Despite a lot of press for Fire Fest 2 As tickets went on sale this week Are saying There is no such event It's supposed to take place on Isla Mujeres by the way
Starting point is 02:36:41 Which is near Cancun We were just talking about that We were talking about that I don't advise you to go to Fire Fest 2 But I do advise you to negotiate on your golf cart quote from Edgar Gaska of the tourism directorate of the Isla Mujarez we had no knowledge of this event nor contact with any person or any company about it this is an event that does not exist
Starting point is 02:37:07 of course Billy McFarlane has basically been a scammer his entire life he told the today show quote fire two is real my dream is finally becoming a reality Fire Fest selling tickets between $1,400 and $1.1 million with vague promises of luxury yachts, soon to be confirmed headline acts, and priceless experiences that could include diving with whale sharks, mixology sessions, and survivalist challenges. McFarlane said that people who bought the tickets knew they were, quote, taking the risks, apparently spending the festival's notoriety as a selling point. So FireFest 2, while Billy McFarlane says it's on,
Starting point is 02:37:58 the people of East La Mujeda say we ain't even heard of this guy. Sketchy. You ready to lay down $1.1 million for a price-lux experience at FireFest 2? Did you mention that he has not announced who the celebrities are yet? I did. Thanks for listening. Well, I'm busy working on this. Stop covering your ass here. You're not covering my ass. Time for a break. We're all good.
Starting point is 02:38:18 He served four years in prison. Wow. Yeah, yet to be announced acts. Who's playing? We have no idea. You know what? At this point, if you buy tickets to Fire Fest too, you're an idiot and you deserve to lose your money. I feel bad for these people who get scammed.
Starting point is 02:38:35 Like, I mean, these scammers who go after people, like your grandma who has dementia and stuff like that, that's horrible. But if you are a walking, breathing, lucid human being and you're giving money to this idiot, you're an idiot. And you deserve to lose your cash. And that's my non-Florida story. Al-Tuvae is now done in left field. And El-Tuvae has now done in left field. He made zero plays in six innings. And everything is okay.
Starting point is 02:39:03 And it's spry still. Wants to play a pickup game with his friends down the street. He's going to play his own double-header. You're here at the Florida Complex is what they're calling it. All right, we're going to take a quick break here on the Matt Thomas show with Ross. When we come back, it's an alive or dead edition of Believe it or not, don't go anywhere. Matt Thomas' life goals.
Starting point is 02:39:26 Watch, cheer, win, repeat. Oh, you thought I was talking about sports? Hell no. Matt has serious prices, right dreams. How he has time for sports in between reruns. Just boggles the mind. Five minutes left to go in the week. What should we do? We should play
Starting point is 02:39:53 America's fastest-growing sports radio game show Monday through Thursday. We call it, believe it or not, but on Fridays, we call it a hell yeah or not. And here's how it works. You call 713-212-5-790. 7-13-212-5-7-90. Today's edition of a hellier or not is alive or dead.
Starting point is 02:40:13 I will read you a name. I'll get Ross's opinion on it. And then you've got to decide what the person is alive. Even if he is or she is, you'll say this. Hell yeah! If the person is dead, you'll say this. Not. Two, believe it or not, on hell, yeah, or nots, on Dead or Alive,
Starting point is 02:40:27 win your prize. What are we playing for today, Connor? A pair of tickets to see Simple Minds live on their Alive and Kicking Tour. 2025, a special guest, soft sell in modern English on May 31st at the Willens Pavilion and some 790 t-shirts. Paul, you're ready to play Hell yeah or not? Hell yeah. All right, Paul, stand by. Ross.
Starting point is 02:40:47 Mr. T. alive or dead? Mr. T's alive. Paul, what do you say? Absolutely alive. He's 72. Nice. Marve Levy, the former coach of the Buffalo Bills. Oh my God, he held on for a long time, Paul, but I think he died recently. No, I think he's still alive. Is he still kicking? Paul, what do you say, alive or dead? Go ahead, Paul. He died last year at 99.
Starting point is 02:41:15 Yes. Sorry. Suck it, Paul. Roger on 790. ready to play, believe it or not. Believe it. Rockets, former backup center, longtime Atlanta Hawk, Ross, Kevin Willis. I think he's alive,
Starting point is 02:41:33 Roger, but I'm not 100% sure. He's alive. Hell yeah. 62. And kicking. Dan Aykroyd from SNL. Dan Aykroyd's alive. I think he was tweeting recently, Roger.
Starting point is 02:41:46 Yes, he's alive. 17 years old, congratulations. You're fine. Four for four. Perfect, by the way. These are getting easier for you. Mike, it's hard to come up with the good ones. Mike, on 790, you're ready to play, hell yeah or not?
Starting point is 02:42:01 Hell yeah. Former Hawks owner, former Braves owner, former television network owner, Ted Turner. I have no clue, Mike. I'm going to lean towards he's a lot, but I don't know. Hell yeah. Hell yeah. Yeah, he's 86. Johnny Bench, former Hall of Fame catcher of Cincinnati Reds.
Starting point is 02:42:24 good one, Mike. I don't really know. I think he, I think he's alive, but I don't really know. He did? Hell yeah. Hell yeah. He's alive. He's 77. Oh my God. That was a pure guess. Pure guess.
Starting point is 02:42:40 You're six for six. Yeah, but those couple of those, that one was a 100% guess. Scott on 790, ready to play Hell yeah or not. Hell yeah. Mary Tyler Moore. Ross, do you think? I think she's alive, Scott?
Starting point is 02:42:56 Barry Tyler Moore. I don't know, bro I think Mary Channelmore's alive She died in 2017 At the age of baby I'm sorry Scott, I didn't know You know what, you're still six for seven That's a great percentage
Starting point is 02:43:09 Thank you Let's go to Geo in Atasca City Geo on 790 Ready to play hell yeah or not Hell yeah We lost Gene Hackman this year Who was Lex Luthor in Superman
Starting point is 02:43:21 He's dead, Gio That's right Margo Kidder who was Lois Lane Who? Margo Kidder She was Lois Lane those movies. Hell yeah, or not, alive? I don't know who that is, Gio,
Starting point is 02:43:31 so, I mean, I'm going to say she's dead. I don't even know who she is, though, really. I'm going to say she's dead too, Ralph. Yeah, she died in 2018, the age of 69. I mean, it sounds vaguely familiar. Meatloaf. Meatloaf died recently. We did a believe
Starting point is 02:43:47 or not on it, Gio. Dead. Died in 2022 at the age of 74. All right. One more. Three winners today. Seven out of eight or what did I get? Nine and ten. Oh, we're going to ten.
Starting point is 02:44:04 Yeah. Greg, you're ready to play but a hell yeah or not. Hell yeah. William Shatner. Bill Shatner's alive. Hell yeah. Hell yeah.
Starting point is 02:44:17 And he's kicking at 93 years old. You know, we sometimes have to retire bits on the show. We're going to have to retire this one. Why? It's just becoming more and more difficult. It is hard. To continue to come up with names,
Starting point is 02:44:33 famous names, some people that I've heard of. Yeah, yeah. I'm surprised about the Marion Tyler Mormon because I think we played the song like five times. I couldn't remember. Yeah. Shlameel, Shlamazel? No, that's Penny Marshall.
Starting point is 02:44:46 Oh. Two on the opposite end of the spectrum. I mean, they're both comedic actors, but. Oh. What was the show when they said Shalemil? There was LeVos and Sheryl. Yeah, same thing. All right.
Starting point is 02:44:58 Is either one of them alive? Who? Laverne or Shirley. I think they're both dead. Shirley recently died. Cindy Williams. May she rest. I hope so.
