Starting point is 00:00:00 is the Matt Thomas show with Ross. And welcome to a Thursday edition of the Matt Thomas show with Ross. This is Sports Talk 790. But if I touch you like this, and if you kiss me like that, it was so long ago, but it's wrong. It's a stream first base out of the road as it deals, and this is clobbered deep to left field, and that is into the Crawford boxes and gone.
Starting point is 00:00:36 Smith goes deep for the eighth time this season. And the Astros double their advantage to nothing. I'm Smith for the first time in like three months. And you're... It's all back. And so is Mr. Texas and Ross. Are you keeping with this Mr. Texas bit? I'm not.
Starting point is 00:01:56 America is. He's been doing it last four days. Now this is a... Okay, hi, it's good to be back. Thank you for playing this song. Turn it up. The greatest hitter in Astros history by OPS Plus is back, and you play a Celine Dian power ballad. I mean, this is kind of a jam.
Starting point is 00:02:15 I'll give you that. See, I told you. It's all coming back, H-town. So you go with a soft singing Canadian. Correct. People are jamming this right now. They're like, this was not on the bingo card, but it hits. Now, you've heard this song before, right, Jonathan?
Starting point is 00:02:41 Of course. All right. I check every day when we play a song We've ever heard this song Oh, okay I'm new to the show You know it's so fitting that you played this on SFA Game Day because
Starting point is 00:02:51 Saline Beyond got run by the dude from SFA and Illinois. Will Jennings Just, you know, it's crazy, that's a coincidence. Uh-oh, is this? Smacks already talking? You're starting early. I'm going to be nice and calm
Starting point is 00:03:10 because the beat down you're about to get in about nine hours. Oh, it's going to be relentless. It's going to be cruel but fair. I have it at 4510 tonight. 4510? Yeah. All right. Is the line still holding at 21,
Starting point is 00:03:26 22 and a half? Yeah. Okay. Hmm. You didn't even ask me for tickets. Are you going the game tonight? Do you not want to go? You give me the tickets. Well, we can get you tickets. It's basically, there's not going to be anybody. It's going to be half empty.
Starting point is 00:03:44 I mean, you can get tickets. Well, you can get tickets to 7.13 go-goos. Matt can probably sneak you in. 7-13-goos. They're literally. were giving away free tickets. Somebody sent somebody forward me in an email. They were giving away free tickets to students or
Starting point is 00:03:55 something like that. 7-13. He's not a student, so he's got to call 7-13. Go Coogs or go to UHcougars.com. You'd probably get him for about six bucks on the secondary market. Low-key, right? No, no, no, go right. You got to spend it right at the University of Houston. They need you. I mean, it's a very small stadium with only 40,000 anyways and then it's about half empty every
Starting point is 00:04:11 week. So you should be fine. You can get a section for yourself, I'm sure. Not getting a section. No, no, no. It's, it's going to be full? It's going to be Oh, what's the attendance going to be, Matt? I'm going to put it around 39-8. Okay, 39-8. All right, we'll check.
Starting point is 00:04:25 Yeah, we can check. Now, just know this. Oh, go ahead. Is the weather bad? If the apocalypse hits. Oh, okay, here we go. And somehow that school, by the way, we did SFA, believe it or not, yesterday. Do you know the average SAT score is 1070?
Starting point is 00:04:40 Out of 1600? I'd have been a lot lower, actually. I thought it would have been about 550. Yeah, I mean, it's kind of, it's basically open enrollment. Yeah, it's fine. We were all surprised yesterday. He was like, damn. That must have been from the old system when it was like $2,400.
Starting point is 00:04:54 He's like, I could have gotten to the honors college with that. All right. You are back after Galvanning throughout the state. Now, how many miles do you put on the car altogether? It's funny you say that. I calculated yesterday, and I can't remember. I think it was like 1,300 miles on the car in a week. And how far west did you?
Starting point is 00:05:16 Did you go to Mexico? I went all the way into Mexico. I went from Austin to Carlsbad, New Mexico. then I went to Guadalupe Mountains National Park, which is like in Pecos, Texas or something like that. And then I went to Fort Davis, Texas, and the McDonald Observatory, which is incredible, you need to go.
Starting point is 00:05:33 And then I went to Big Bend National Park and then back through San Antonio to Houston. I went all throughout Texas. It's not bad. I've done those things as well. No, you're Mr. Have you been to Big Bend National Park? Yes, I've flown over it many times. Okay, so no, you haven't been.
Starting point is 00:05:48 Have you been at Guadalupe Peak, the highest peak in Texas? Yeah, I've flown over it. Over it many times. No, you haven't. Have you been, I went to a state park. Have you been to any? Have you been to literally any state park in Texas? Have you been to Paris?
Starting point is 00:05:57 Have you been to any? Yes, I've been through Paris. No, no, no, no, no. Paris, Texas. Okay. I've stayed in Paris, Texas. Oh, okay. Have you stayed in any state park?
Starting point is 00:06:06 The Rariat. Okay. That's a no. Look, I don't, let me, the reality is I only stay in Rariats, Milton's, Bits, Carl Rortons, or Bortons. I figured you'd go to one of the national parks if you're Mr. Texas. No, Mr. Texas drives those areas, stops and eats at cornering cafes. Or at least one state park. I do shake hands, kiss babies. You haven't been to the
Starting point is 00:06:26 Capitol building in Austin, correct? I have been to the Capitol, yes. You said you had last week. You're a liar now. That seems like I don't remember. I think I'm pretty bad. All right. The Local 9 do get a win. How much, you know, you were obviously in town yesterday to watch the game because you were tweeting and texting and whatnot. But you do, did you check out, check out in life? Or did you try to look at the phone once in a while? I only checked after games were over. I checked the score. I didn't want to invest the games. Because I wanted to, when I go on these trips, I want to unplug. I want to make sure I'm not invested.
Starting point is 00:06:57 I'm not like, I'm trying to stay off my phone. I'm in nature. These trips are purposefully, because you know this, Matt, these jobs that we have, we have to plug into every game, every injury, every other game. What are the Mariners doing? What is all this? And it's just 24 hours.
Starting point is 00:07:13 And so I try to really get away when I get away. And so I only, I saw the scores of the games. I did check when I saw the, them scoring a bunch of runs and then I tried to stay off my Twitter but sometimes you just click it reflexively. I get it. I saw your tweet about the hitting coaches so then I fired off that tweet. That was an O'DU by the way. Thank you. I appreciate
Starting point is 00:07:33 that. They did a great job willing them to win. They're doing a great job with this Yordon guy, the hitting coaches. I thought they did a fantastic job having him hit a home run. So yeah, I would say I only watched the scores and then I watched the extended highlights of two games ago and then I watched last night. So I'm a little behind. I didn't know Bryce. What happened with Bryce Matthews?
Starting point is 00:07:52 He came up and came down. He came and went when I was gone. Yeah. Because Taylor Tremel went to the wall and center field and got hurt. Oh. They brought him up and so he's down now after the... Oh, with the Frommber game. Right.
Starting point is 00:08:06 That was when I left. You did see. You saw terrible Fromber before he left and you saw great Frumber yesterday. I saw his full-on meltdown. I had been defending him for weeks saying, people overblowed. He doesn't really melt down anymore. And then he had a full-blown meltdown.
Starting point is 00:08:19 He was awesome. but man, and maybe I'm spending too much time looking at him, but he looks pissed off all the time. Hmm. Okay. He's getting locked in. Now maybe that's the greatness that makes him one of the best pitchers in the game. Look, I don't remember Justin Vernaner cracking smiles. Yeah, Verlainter was pissed off. Hunter Brown gets pissed off up there. My guess is no and Ryan wasn't cackling during his games.
Starting point is 00:08:45 When he's not walking six people in an inning, Spencer Arigetti gets a little pissy out there. Already way too soon. Way too soon. I'm sorry. All right. The radio show today, we are a little bit of a shorter show today. Now, back in the day, this would be a full show because we were only a three-hour show. But since we're adding more time to our show and not getting compensated for it, we're a shorter show.
Starting point is 00:09:05 Oh, my God. So you haven't changed. No. And our video camera's frozen, I think. Yeah, that hasn't changed. That's been an issue. It was literally working the first five minutes of the show. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:09:21 Yeah, that's the look of disgust I'm seeing of you as the Cougars scored their fifth touchdown in the second quarter. Get him tickets to the game. I need to see tickets. I need to see photos of this. I need the full experience for him at the U of H.S.F.SFA game. If he wants tickets, I'll get him for him. Okay. But those of you that do need tickets, 713 go Cougs.
Starting point is 00:09:43 Okay. And UHcookers.com slash tickets. I believe they have a section for a you can buy bulk pricing, I believe. It's 20 tickets for $10. That was bad. Don't ask when you want to go see. When they're at 9 and 0 in the year and you want to go to a game, don't ask. Don't ask.
Starting point is 00:09:59 Nine and what? Oh. I actually don't mind going to Cougars games. There's a lot of good Cougars fans. There's bad Cougar fans like you, but there's actual good ones who really care about the programs. All right. 713-212-5-790. The rudeness has already kicked in.
Starting point is 00:10:14 I thought your time away would make you a different person. I noticed that, too. I would like to apologize. I'm sorry. I know sorry is there tomorrow, but I've been gone for a week, so I'm getting my end from last week. You know what that was rude. You've got to have something on your trip that you just didn't get during the trip, right? Think about that.
Starting point is 00:10:26 There's a lot of things I just didn't get. Really? Oh, my gosh. Huh. Mm-hmm. Okay. Let me think of him and write him down. Right and right. He's going to forget.
Starting point is 00:10:35 Normally Brian McTaggart at 11 o'clock, but we're going to push him into on deck because we have on deck show today at 12 o'clock with a 110 first pitch. We'll talk to him. We have, I just don't get it at 1130. Ross, I gave a homework assignment too. He's going to give us a practice squad breakdown of the Texans' play. players that are on the practice squad looking forward to that. Mr. Texas, the reason we brought this a couple of days ago is because not only my Mr. Texas, but I'm also the Texans and said, I'm also the Texans and said,
Starting point is 00:11:01 when others said don't worry about it. Can you explain that? Yeah, I said I wasn't worried, but that was like two months out. What come out that everybody's, I didn't see the piece of news that came out that everybody's worried about. He is on the non-injury list, minimum of four weeks. Okay. The week five game is against Baltimore.
Starting point is 00:11:20 They're off the week six and then they get back in action on the week seven. And then yesterday they had a press conference where they basically said, we're not going to tell you what's wrong with him and don't ask. They held a press conference to say we're not. They held it for him. It was a general, here's our roster kind of thing. Yeah. It seems like D'Amico's getting very combative.
Starting point is 00:11:39 So people have been very mixed about it. Okay. About, hey, the Astros tried to tell you something and you got mad at them because they tried to tell you something, but it wasn't the truth. then you have Casario and Domingo saying, we're not going to tell you, stop asking. It's the worst of the best interest of us and the players leave us alone. And I had a deep conversation about this with somebody
Starting point is 00:12:02 because we were talking about this in the show yesterday very quickly. There were some people that are both sides of it. Hey, when he shows up, we'll be ready. We don't need to know. And then there's other people that said, look, we invest in the team. The injury report is a huge part of it. forgetting about the gambling or forgetting about the fantasy football aspect, which clearly it's a huge part of it. It just is. It's a big part. It's a big part of it. But injury reports
Starting point is 00:12:24 have always been a part of the NFL. Now, the NFL does injury reports during the regular season. So you have to report those things during the week, but that's only on a 53-man roster situation. They don't have to say word one about Joe Mixing until he's on that 53-man roster. So it was a little bit of it. I just thought it was, and the conversation that I have of my buddy said, Domingo's just picking a fight. Doesn't need to pick. He got into it yesterday by saying, well, we don't ask you about your health situation. Well, nobody cares about sports reporters. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:53 You know, well, there wasn't really a lot of reporters. It was more like fanboys, but that's a different issue for different times. It was you just, people's health when it comes to a team that you love, you care about. Not looking for a complete MRI report, not looking for his x-rays. We put on the social media circles. But what's going on? And they just didn't discuss how he got hurt, when he's been out, and when he's coming back. And they know it?
Starting point is 00:13:16 They're just not going to tell you. So it was just a interesting conversation how people felt on both sides of the fans. Yeah, I'd like to discuss that if we could. We sure were not. 713-213-5-790. 7-1-3-2-1-2-790. I just don't get at 1130. Astros on deck at 12 noon.
Starting point is 00:13:30 Astros do win. And Ross is going to put me in my place because the over-under number was already hit yesterday. We'll discuss that next here on 790. Two home runs for the local nine yesterday. One from Cam that had not happened a long time. Well, he has been in a massive, massive slum. don't look up how many parks it was all running well it's funny because I was watching the TV at the call time and
Starting point is 00:13:54 Todd Cal is like oh there's a majestic drive it's like they landed in the second row well at least it wasn't like a refragwell I was going to say that for 1130 we love you Jeff by far the all-time war leader in Astros history and the second greatest Astro of them all But by far, the all-time war leader in Astros history. Not postseason war history, no.
Starting point is 00:14:22 Not postseason war, no. No, no, no. Okay. So, yeah, he, Jeff's depth perception's not fantastic. Are you doing this to me? I didn't do it. I didn't make you say that, but it's true. There was a couple times.
Starting point is 00:14:39 And look, Jeff Bagwell's not a broadcaster. Jeff Bagwell is an all-time great, all baseball hall of famer. and he's a fan of the Astros and a part of the organization. So he got a couple of times for fly balls that weren't really close to going out. He got excited. Like fans tend to do sometimes in the stands. Yeah, he's basically Astro's Twitter. Ooh, no, Astro's Twitter is not a fan of Jeff Bagwell.
Starting point is 00:15:06 No, I'm just going to, I was, damn it, okay, I'm going to do it now. I'll maybe repeat this 11-3. Yeah, it's fine. It's a different audience, Matt. I think for a change of pace, he's just fine. I agree. I'll tell you this, he knows things. Yes. I don't remember the reliever, the,
Starting point is 00:15:20 the, reliever for the Rockies who gave up the home run to Alvarez. Two run blast. He was talking about, he threw a change-up. And he said, that's a trouble spot for this Colorado pitcher because Yoron did not swing at the change-up, meaning he knew it was coming. So he says, if he throws it again, he's going to be prepared for it. Because he already saw it once and didn't swing. he was prepared for it the second time.
Starting point is 00:15:47 It was a change-up and he hit it to straightaway center field, you know, 400 and something feet. Exactly. He just, he gives me nuances. He absolutely knows baseball. He is a fanboy. I mean, that's who Jeff is. I mean, I couldn't hear about how everybody was great and everybody, da-da-da-da-da.
Starting point is 00:16:06 He's an astro for life. He's an astro for life. And I brought this up to Gordy the other day. Yeah, I hadn't been Gordy because you were gone. And this is because of his general manager-s duties when he had them. Consulting duties aren't so great. I don't know of an athlete who is as on the field cherished, but post-career is more hated than Jeff Bagua.
Starting point is 00:16:33 Because, as I said, I don't think Calerupkin Jr. ever has to worry about getting booed in Baltimore ever again. And they ever got booed to begin with. I don't think, and we'll just go over great, I don't think John Smolz has to go to Atlanta and ever get booed. I don't think, we just, Ken Griffey can go to Cincinnati or Seattle,
Starting point is 00:16:53 and they're beloved. John Elway was kind of botching things in Denver for a little while, right? The key is this. If you're one of the all-time greats, just don't stay with that team. Just walk away. Yeah, called a career. Remember for what you were.
Starting point is 00:17:07 But I'm with you. There are things he talks about exactly. When he talks about approach and getting it inside people, pitch. He was talking about Correa, waiting for a curveball, and then he got one and you just missed it. All those things that you're talking about. I think it's great. Now, of course, when I say he's not a broadcaster,
Starting point is 00:17:22 I mean, he doesn't, for example, Matt Thomas is a great broadcaster about talking and explaining things and articulating thoughts and knowing when to talk and using your strong voice and inflection and all that type of stuff. He's just not polished. But the analysis
Starting point is 00:17:38 he gives is good. Couldn't disagree with you. But again, I think for 162, you would drive you all insane. And I also believe if he was to do 162 games, he'd have to get some media training. Just like Jeff Plum. And Jeff Blum put the reps in. Jeff Blum is now a broadcaster as much as he's an ex-player. He knows the intricacies of it.
Starting point is 00:18:00 Jeff, in Jeff's life, and I was in his to his face, Jeff was an interim batting coach for the Astros during the lean years. I don't know if you all guys remember that or not. I don't remember that. Yeah, it was about two months. Okay. And he was really good at it. But being good for two months.
Starting point is 00:18:17 Oh, Bagwell. I'm sorry, I was going to Blum. No, no, no, just Jeff Bagwell. Yeah, Bagwell, I remember that. Jeff Bagwell, for two months was a really good batting coach. But it's a 12-month job or at least an eight-month job. He didn't want that. So he went in there, gave his advice, and he moved on.
Starting point is 00:18:32 You have to be trained to be a good hitting coach. Just because you did it doesn't necessarily mean you can coach it particularly well. Same thing about being a general manager. I think you have to cut your team. in the front office about scouting, about a player development, about a deal of negotiations, about trades. I mean, guys don't become general managers after a 14-year playing career. And if they usually do, they're usually failures. Michael Jordan is one of the greatest, well, he used in my mind, the greatest basketball player of all time, one of the worst executives in NBA history, because he
Starting point is 00:19:01 didn't have that training. He may have been a coach on the floor, but he wasn't dealing with drafts. He wasn't dealing with Fradency. He wasn't dealing with a salary cap. He botched just about everything he did. But he had so much money that he could get away with it and he stole Michael Jordan. Jeff Bag would be the same situation. Jeff would have to get some training to say, all right, don't murmur, don't yell, don't be so willing to go, oh, and pop fly. Like there was one last night that I mean, might have gotten 200 feet. The Cam Smith one? Yeah, it was like, oh, Cam.
Starting point is 00:19:31 I looked it up. It was 268. Okay, so I'm off a little bit. But I mean, yeah, that's pretty light to be getting. 268. It's not a home run unless you're in Little League. But maybe the debt perception in that booth Because when Cal's like,
Starting point is 00:19:44 there's a drive for Camp Smith. Oh my God. Second roll of Crawford boxes. Okay. I mean, it was still a home run. That was 270 feet. Sheesh. It is what it is.
Starting point is 00:19:57 All right. So the Astros did win. They have a game and a half lead because the Mariners did win yesterday. And the Mariners, I believe, are off today, if I'm not mistaken. They've been playing well, right? One five of the last six. Yeah. Granted again, it was against Sacramento and San Diego, but it is what, I mean, San Diego is good.
Starting point is 00:20:16 You can lose to bad teams. Ask you, San Astros. Oh, Lord, don't bring that up again. That's not good. And then this weekend, the Mariners will be, oh, at Cleveland. Okay. Let's go Guardians. Let's go Guardians.
Starting point is 00:20:33 You're home for Guardians baseball. 1027, if you guys want to join us, 713, 212, 5790, 713, 212. 713-212-5-7-90. We're with you today until 11, well, actually until noon. Then we've Astros on deck at 12 o'clock. First pitch will be at 110. Listen all the way. I mean, if you want to stop taking a break at 2 o'clock, that's fine,
Starting point is 00:20:53 but we want you to at least listen to 2 o'clock. Yes. Absolutely. Ross really wants you to listen to this 2 o'clock. 1032, Matt and Ross with you here on the Thursday. Boy, Ross picks those days. He's in on a short day. You'll have to work Friday
Starting point is 00:21:08 And then you're off Monday You think this wasn't planned I learned from the great No no no no no you I'm actually proud of you Charlie Polello Yeah I was gonna say not me It's Charlie I get days off
Starting point is 00:21:22 That's I must take days off And then he would Every short show day he would work So Wednesday was last Wednesday when I left It was like a one hour show I know I know So yesterday our boss Brian and Eric
Starting point is 00:21:35 It's like I'm taking Thursday, Friday. And he says, I'm going to get a long weekend because I'm a long weekend plus the Monday off. And I said, well, I am working Labor Day. I'm the only one on the staff is working on Labor Day. And I said, you know, I get 25 days off per year as part of my contract. And I said, I'm going to leave four or five alone. And I said, after working Labor Day, I'm going to work the, I'm going to take the 25. So you should.
Starting point is 00:21:57 I'm going to. Good. And I'm going to try to do a couple of Rossies, not do a damn thing. Yes, I need you to relax. Like, I'm going to be taking some time in September. I'm going to the NBA broadcast. meetings. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:22:07 Well, hopefully. Yeah, but how long of the meetings aren't eight hours a day, are they? No, they're actually, it's very nice. Okay, good. They feed you very well. Do they house you? Uh, the rockets do, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:17 It's in Jersey City. That's the strange part. Jersey City. We don't even go into New York. We go into Jersey City. Uh-huh. Because apparently it's cheaper there. And they take you on a smash-and-grab tour, I believe.
Starting point is 00:22:26 Well, they do feed us. There's a night activity with the bar is flowing, and that's always good. That's good, too, yeah. I'm just saying. And we're hanging out with my new MBA brethren, Mike Torrico. is doing games again. I don't think we ever going to talk about this. There are some that are saying the NBA is oversaturated.
Starting point is 00:22:45 Explain. In what way? You can watch NBA games in the season on a national basis, depending if you have all the services. You can watch NBA basketball seven days a week. Okay. Now, you and me are NBA box. So it's hard for us to be able to say this is not good.
Starting point is 00:23:00 I mean, they're doing Wednesday night football on Christmas the last. a couple years now too, so I mean, but football is king. Yeah, NBA is like, we're going to put five games on Christmas Day, and the NFL's like, I don't care what you put on. You can bring on Michael Jordan, Karim Diljabar, we're still going to beat you with some rando NFL game. I guess that's
Starting point is 00:23:19 interesting. Do they like, was it better back in the old days when it was just Sunday night or when it was just Monday night football or Sunday night football? But now it's Thursday night. No, I think NFL, no matter what you put on and it's right. And that's the one thing that will be the most crazy thing about sports is that like,
Starting point is 00:23:35 For instance, this is a bad example because we have opening night because people are maybe just Thursday night college football. But a random Thursday night college football game, but let's just go with a couple of decent teams. Let's go with Cal versus Utah. Okay. Thursday night college football. Unless you're a Cal or Utah fan or you've got some sort of betting implications on it, you're not going to put it on. Be a little taste on the old. Thursday, if you put on a little taste on.
Starting point is 00:24:03 Thursday, if you put on the Jaguars versus the Dolphins, I mean, it may not be a huge grabber, but it's going to have 25 times the ratings of that college football game. I wonder how much fantasy football really helps. To me, it's more fantasy football than it's gambling. Because what I do believe is I believe the general sports audience thinks that everybody bets on sports. And I think it's still a very, very small group. Did you get Dr. Rodo on last week? Yes. Okay.
Starting point is 00:24:34 Is he coming on this week? No, next Friday. What the hell, man? All right. He gave me some such good advice for a fantasy draft. Oh, my gosh. Good. Good.
Starting point is 00:24:45 You would be happy that I'm there. Yeah, I'm just happy. I want you to win, Matt. I'm back to back to back champ. I can't win every single year. I've won four of the last six. So, I mean, somebody else's got to win. As long as they're not Clinton.
Starting point is 00:24:58 I don't care who it is. You know, I only let you guys have the crown for a year. We don't have a belt or anything, do we? No, we used to have, we had that big trophy that's in the green room. The 500-pound gorilla? Guerrilla. Yeah, I thought it was for our radio station. That's how we were good.
Starting point is 00:25:15 I know, but then it was gifted to us. Oh, that was nice. I think I want a belt. Okay, well, you buy it. You want to buy it out of the funds? Because I ain't doing that. We can get everybody to chip in like $10. How much of they cost?
Starting point is 00:25:25 I've never bought a belt before my life. You have it? Mm-mm. Well, you know who you should ask. Clay. He's probably got about six or seven of them bad boys. I mean, thank God for Jerome with a spinner. Did you want the 24-carat gold-plated?
Starting point is 00:25:37 Because that's going to cost extra. It's going to take six to eight weeks to get customized. He knows everything about it, I'm sure. Thank God, Teresa pays the bills in that house. Somebody's got to be responsible with their money. I mean, that little playroom he's got, I mean, big screen TV, video games, 49 belts and 30 different uniforms.
Starting point is 00:25:53 Well, don't forget that he's got like a bunch of $500 jackets and it's 97 degrees every day in Texas, Houston, Texas. You wore this atrocious Texan shirt the other day. I was like, what are you doing? It's terrible. You are the fashion police up here, Matt, officially. Look what I'm wearing today.
Starting point is 00:26:09 I got my U.H gear on. Now, Jonathan can't see it because we don't have the equipment to work. No, I think you can see us now. Yeah, we see him now. Yeah, it's working now, actually. All right. Yeah. Let's talk to James on the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Starting point is 00:26:21 James, good morning. Yeah, Matt. It's not quite fall yet, but still it is football season. And now these hicks from the sticks are going to break out their Rand McNally Roadmap, get in their station wagon with their sister wives, drive down to TDECU Stadium, and try to build their foundation. But they'll sharpen their axe.
Starting point is 00:26:41 They'll try to build their foundation, but there's only one problem. Whose house? Who's house? I'm out. Wow. Wow, it was 10 out of 10 smack from the Cougar side. No, just a random...
Starting point is 00:26:53 Just imagine. I'm rooting for the work. Jonathan. I'm rooting for you. I'm rooting for you. Jonathan, it's not going to happen, but I'm rooting for you. You know what?
Starting point is 00:27:02 I'm rooting for you. I might be the only one. I'm still here. There's a few. There's a few lumberjack. You know what I'm going to do right now. I'm going to call out at this exact moment. What's the bet?
Starting point is 00:27:11 No, there's no bet. I thought you guys were making a bet. Somebody's going to have to sing the fight song or, you know, something fun. I'll go, I'll even take a class there. I mean, it can't be hard to get in. What class are you going to take? I don't know. Oh, by the way, my question.
Starting point is 00:27:28 English 101 would be helpful. One of the things I'm believing out yesterday was you can get a degree in cybersecurity at SFA. I believe it. That's a believe it, yes. That sounds, yeah, it's 2025. Yeah, but I don't know if, I didn't realize that cybersecurity was a degree. It is.
Starting point is 00:27:43 Those are great jobs. That's a great degree. Actually, that's a feather in the cap. SFA, I say. No, there is no bad because I don't want to take it from him. You want some job security? You're always going to need cybersecurity. Well, I would think it was an IT where it's at.
Starting point is 00:27:54 Well, although the companies are people reducing IT departments. I mean, I wouldn't want to bring up one around here or anything. We had two guys and they lit them. both off. And we had nothing but IT nightmares ever since, but that's a different issue. We have to ship everything to Cincinnati somehow. And San Antonio. Yeah, it's fine. And then you get on the, you get on the teams call, they don't have the answer for you. But it's great.
Starting point is 00:28:12 That's fine. All right, where are we going with this? I don't know. We were supposed to talk about your gut feeling. Do you guys do gut feelings on Tuesday? I remembered I didn't give you guys the document. Yeah, he wrote it down. Okay, he had Okay, he wrote it down. Yeah. All right, oh, what I was saying, if you're an SFA fan, this is an open
Starting point is 00:28:30 invitation to call. Axum Jacks. Let's go. Let's go, Jacks fans. Let me tell you this, Jonathan. I don't believe there's even an SFA fan listening to this show. Not a single person is an SFA fan listening to the show. 713-212-5-7-9. We're going to go for the next hour and 20 minutes without a single SFA person calling the show. First of all, you don't know any of the players. Second of all, you have not been to a game since you were probably a sophomore in college drinking bruskees with Brody. And you are, you're not going to be at the game tonight. You don't care about your school. You were forced to go to SFA because other schools wouldn't let you in. And you got out there as fast as possible. And you end up being with a couple of girls that gave you STDs. Wow.
Starting point is 00:29:22 Well, that probably did happen. He calls him big and blonde over there at SFA. Big and blonde is that they called? Yeah, big country girls is what he said. You'll climb the mountains or what? And rolls. Hills and rolls. You got some rolling hills up there in neck of nowhere?
Starting point is 00:29:38 I mean, they're not like Green Bay big, but they're probably bigger. That's a little bit of hills. Yeah. You know what? I got to turn my mic off. The girl I went to my sophomore year in high school homecoming dance. She is an SFA grad. She got her teaching degree there.
Starting point is 00:29:55 We had some attractive people from my high school went to SFA. And by the way, another believe it or not yesterday was, do you know that 63% of the SFA enrollment are female? I mean Do you need Another reason to go? So put it this way If you're 18 or 19 And looking to experience
Starting point is 00:30:11 That love for the first time You're gonna chop some wood And you can't get the You can't get your wood in Nacadoches I mean my God You must be a loser Hmm All right so is Dale
Starting point is 00:30:23 Is Dale really a SFA fan or is you Pretending to be one? You said Lover Jack Why do we got to pretend? Yeah there's a lot of pretending over there Let me tell you some There's more SFA people To pretend they went to the University of Texas
Starting point is 00:30:33 You know that's to be the case, right, or A&M. It's happening. I have seen a couple A&M shirts. I knew it. Dale on 790. Good morning. What's up, man? Man, how you doing? Oh, I'm good. Man, I'm actually a graduate, man. I'm a baseball, Letterman. I played football at SFA for a semester.
Starting point is 00:30:52 And I ended up doing some coaching after that. So I am a lumberjack fan, though, man. All right. And you're proud that you went to SFA. Oh, yeah. Well, they paid from school, so why not be proud? You could. And how were the ladies when you were? were there. Are they big in, big and country like Jonathan was saying? There's a few, you know, East Texas is a little different place. Explain.
Starting point is 00:31:17 You say, explain? Yes. Yeah, just different type of people, man. You know how people say East Texas is, man. You probably relate to everybody else and know everybody else that you're not related to. So it's a little different world. Okay. I think it was a pretty politically correct answer for you, my friend.
Starting point is 00:31:34 Dale, are you going to, are you going to the game then? right? No, I'm not going to be able to make to the game tonight. I'm probably going to go to a high school game tonight. So you're choosing a Randall high school game over your beloved institution, your alma mater? No, but I coached for a long time, though, so I, you know, it's the first year and I'm not coach it, so I'm going to go watch a game, probably, fine for peace. Oh, which game are you going to? What's high school game? I hadn't decided yet. Wait, wait a minute. She's just going to get in the car. It won't be a big of a North Shore. You're not, you're not, you see, you're going to, you're going to, you're going to choose.
Starting point is 00:32:07 a game that you've not chosen yet over the school that you went to that gave you a scholarship. This is typical Jacks, right? For the night, I will. All right. Next time, I'll make the next one, though. That's what I'm hearing.
Starting point is 00:32:21 Thanks for the phone call, Dale. Good to appreciate you dial them in. There you go. That's an SFA Jack fan. The biggest Jacks fan we can find is not even going to the game. They're like, I'm going to go some high school game. Not sure which one yet.
Starting point is 00:32:37 I mean, how much worse could the next call be? Jonathan. I mean, seriously, you've got to be flabbergasted after that. He's like, I'm not going to the game tonight. I'm going to go to a high school game. I just haven't decided which one I'm going to go to. So he would rather go to see Brookshire Royal play LaGrange over watching your beloved Jacks get their ass kicked by five touchdowns. It's not good.
Starting point is 00:33:05 All that has to happen is a miracle and I wake up and I'm just talking. can mess the whole show and mess out here. I really hope that happens. Now it was 30-0 first quarter I'm just gonna turn it off.
Starting point is 00:33:18 Yeah. Oh, I thought you were gonna go to the game. I thought you were the big Jax fan. You've been talking trash for months. Why don't you go to the game? I want to hear this. Months.
Starting point is 00:33:26 Okay, you know, if I, don't stop. You're not going. Your girl's not let you go tonight. There's no chance. She wants you to watch
Starting point is 00:33:33 a lifetime movie with her, and she'll be just fine watching that. That's why it's going to be like 75 SFA fans the game today. Maybe 100 at tops. Be 39,700 U of H fans. 39. 100. All right, we're going to check the attendance, Matthew. Yes, we are.
Starting point is 00:33:49 It's going to be 1,775. Oh, that's enough. I think 397 is how many available I see on the market. Stop. 7-1-3, 2-1-2-5. Are they closing the top for this? No. They're opening up a third deck. Is it called is it T and TD-E-CU for
Starting point is 00:34:05 T-N-N-N-N? It's T for totally completed. Totally full. Oh, it's completed? That's pretty small. 40,000. We're going to add 46, 47. I think we're doing construction right now as we speak.
Starting point is 00:34:19 713-212-5-790. Matt and Ross. Sports Talk 790. Hey, Matt. And I can't believe you're here. I can't either. No, it was funny because I was looking for the postcard. I went to my mailbox every day.
Starting point is 00:34:38 Oh, wait a minute. You really did me. You didn't fill it out though. Hold on, I'm right. Right. Yeah, don't give it to me until after the show. I want you to think about what you want to say. Is there even a stamp on there?
Starting point is 00:34:48 I wasn't sure. Does the address go here? And then I write the message here. I didn't know what happened. That's right. Okay. See, I didn't know how to do it. I didn't know where to address it to, I guess here?
Starting point is 00:34:56 I'm trying to think the last time I did a postcard, maybe I was in college. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, that's got to be it. You know what? This is a big fail on my part because all these national parks have post offices. So I'm sorry. You know what I'm going to do for you next year?
Starting point is 00:35:12 We've got a couple of long NBA road trips. I'm going to send you a postcard from the road a couple of times. Why not? I just don't believe you. I will. I swear to God I will. All right. I just don't get it coming up at 1130.
Starting point is 00:35:23 Astros on deck is at 12 o'clock. First pitch today is at 1.10 with co-staff ace. Jason Alexander in a mound. He's been great. Looking forward to talking about it. I did to tell the truth the other day. And what my truth was... Hold on. Give them all three.
Starting point is 00:35:39 Give me all four. Do you have them? Yeah, I'll look up. Let me get this got a phone call in. No, no, no, no. Because, honestly. Did we talk about Yordon's home run and you getting wrong about your gut now? Go ahead, knock it out. Well, that's fine.
Starting point is 00:35:48 I mean, you said he wasn't going to hit a home run all year, and then it's August 28th, and he hit one yesterday. To be fair, though. Yes. You have almost, I had no faith. You have little faith. You only said two home runs. I thought he'd be back, you know, mid-September. But I didn't think he was going to be out all season.
Starting point is 00:36:03 I said six. He did say six. So he's, well, we'll see who gets closer. A great baseball mind over there Yeah, I know So how many games are left? 30? Oh, 29?
Starting point is 00:36:18 I think somewhere in that range. We're less than 35 and 10 years. He's not hit 6, I don't think it. But if he is. I'm going to end up closest. You're already done. I actually know if it's if it doesn't hit it again, you and I are, are you in? If he, if we, the news comes out later today, he's got hand pain and he's out.
Starting point is 00:36:36 And by the way, under the Price's Right rules, you'd have gone over. I would have won because I would have I picked the under. Okay. Just saying. Well, you can't bid zero at prices right, so you would have been kicked off the show. I should have said 0.5. Bob Barker were that kicked you in the nuts and sent you off the show. Remember that time you and I went to win golfing with our buddy
Starting point is 00:36:54 and Bob was with us? Yes. And he punched him multiple times? Oh my God, it was terrible. Yeah. They were paired together and one guy was playing really poorly. Yeah. Jonathan, and our friend would insist on wearing hockey jerseys when he played golf. you wore like a collared shirt or something.
Starting point is 00:37:14 All right. That's tried. We got him in a day on one. We got him on misery. We were talking about Joe Mixing. He was held captive and his ankles got crushed. And he's like, oh, that sounds familiar. And he says, Gordy's like, what a misery that would be?
Starting point is 00:37:31 And he goes, man, I got to figure out the name of that movie is. Yeah, it wouldn't be a misery miserable situation. I've seen that movie in class. In class? What kind of class you're going to? It was in high school that she had put it on. Oh, okay. Would you go to high school again?
Starting point is 00:37:44 I went to William B. Travis, my junior. Is that open enrollment as well? William B. Trieds at the top line forward in school. Yeah, I don't think so. I'm just saying. I think all high schools open enrollment? Yeah, that's true. I think it's called forced enrollment.
Starting point is 00:37:58 Roger on 7.90. Good morning. Good morning. I believe the price is something like flush is wrong bitch, but anyway. That's fine. Anyway, so I'm, don't get me wrong here what I'm about to say. I really love the result last night. I love the Fromba had his head on straight.
Starting point is 00:38:15 I love the fact that Yoran got his first safe of a home run. Oh, here we go. No, no, no, no. It was everything good. I just didn't like the vibe. I guess it was there. Maybe the, you know, the fans were not into it or just something going on. There's no fire on this team, man.
Starting point is 00:38:34 Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, Roger. What do you mean? What do you, what do you, when you say fire on this team, so what do you want? Or another one. Do you want them doing flip-flops? Or what do you want them doing? Handstands or what?
Starting point is 00:38:45 We're playing the bad news bears. They should be kicking the never-living snot out of the scene. Yeah, they take you to the seventh. They need to score another run. I'm just saying. They're better than that, aren't they? Aren't they?
Starting point is 00:38:58 They lost them the night before. Baseball is hard. Any win you can get, you take. Are you being serious right now, Roger? I just think they, I just think they play the last level of competition too many times. I just think that they won by four runs. They won by four runs, but then they got their butt kick the night before
Starting point is 00:39:20 because they just seemed like they just were the Astros. Y'all, lay down, but it didn't happen. Yes, baseball is hard. But, I mean, that team is not talented. They have a 340 run differential. I know. They're historically bad. They've won 38 games this year.
Starting point is 00:39:40 They're not winless. Wow. Wow. Yeah. They won 38 games. Listen to what you just said. It won't 38 games. Yes. So they have, they haven't gone winless.
Starting point is 00:39:51 Oh, my God. What I'm saying, Ross, is they should be better. They should be better. I don't know. I'm pretty happy with 4-0. I mean, it is. I mean, did you want them to win 17 to nothing? Is that what you're looking for?
Starting point is 00:40:04 I mean, that made you feel? This is ridiculous, Roger. You're being ridiculous. They split a series. They split a series with the Dodgers. recently. They won three out of four against the Diamondbacks recently. They won a series against the Cardinals recently.
Starting point is 00:40:18 The Cardinals? What about the Dodgers? They split four with the Dodgers. Okay, that's great. We should sweep them. That's all I'm saying. Well, you should shut your bum ass up on. You're making me want to go back on vacation. This is ridiculous. No, I don't know. This is horrible.
Starting point is 00:40:33 Roger, my God. Yeah, my God. I need my voice. That is one of the dumbest things. Oh, my. God, they only won 4-0. That's what we're going with? Are you serious? You paid off the money line.
Starting point is 00:40:51 You paid off the run line. We're all good, brother. Four runs is good. You win a game by four runs? It wasn't a squeaker. Well, here's what I think he's going with this. Is that the game was 1-0-0-0. It was 1-0 to the 7th.
Starting point is 00:41:07 Smith hits the home run, makes it 2-0. And then Jordon hits the home run and make it 4-0. Okay. I guess is what he wants is he wanted 9 to 2. Well, Chase Dolander has been very good away from Coors Field. He is under four. It's really strange. He had the reverse numbers.
Starting point is 00:41:24 He is awful, awful at home and very respectable in the road. Well, that makes sense when you're in Colorado. Yeah, but I mean, he's ERA's 11 in Colorado. Yeah. So he's been very good away from Colorado. Yeah, he's a normal human being. He pitches well there and he sucks. at home. I think his ERA was under four
Starting point is 00:41:44 away from Colorado. So he's been a good picture. And it's lower now. Yeah. It's lower now after last night. They won the game, guys. What are we doing? They're in first place. We're stacking wins. We are mad after a 4-0-0 win? Can we hear ourselves talk out loud? You
Starting point is 00:42:02 had that thought and then you said it on a radio show? And we thank you for listening. We do thank you for listening, Roger. We appreciate you, but that was a ridiculous take. I like 4-0-0. Nothing. 1058, Sports Talk 7-A. This is the Matt Thomas show
Starting point is 00:42:19 with Ross. For Sports Talk 790, we are in our sports talk mode until the bottom of the hour. Then at 1130 we're going to do, I just don't get it. Very curious about your I just don't get it. Because you spent, you said, what, 1,300 miles in the streets and freeways
Starting point is 00:42:40 and highways of Texas? Yes. You know, I'm going to start calling you. What? Mr. I-10. You don't get the whole statement. You get I-10. I went I-10-87-117, and I can't remember a bunch of others.
Starting point is 00:42:53 Ranch Road 505. I was all over the place, Maddie. I was all over Texas. Yeah, I know. It's good. Which, you know. I'll be going to Dallas in San Antonio. I've already been to Austin so far this year.
Starting point is 00:43:02 Love Galveston. You know, I'm the lone star state. Mm-hmm. Oh, you just sent me the postcard. I got you. You got it now. It says, you're a horrible candidate for Mr. Texas. eternally yours yes
Starting point is 00:43:19 you didn't even put a stamp on it I know I'm sorry I bought it though I intended to mail it but I just didn't make time your hand running is terrible too I know what hell is this I didn't write like a fourth grader this looks like an SFA stu I was trying to write it quick if I had taken my time
Starting point is 00:43:37 it would have been better but yes it does look like a fourth grader wrote it it's like an SFA oh he got some backwards ours By the way, Jonathan, a postcard is a small car with a picture on it. No, he's saying that because you're young. That's exactly right.
Starting point is 00:44:01 When's the last time you sent a postcard, Jonathan? Never in my life, actually. That's a nice one, though. Look at those caves. Carlsbad Caverns. You can see what they look like on my Instagram at Sports RV. You know what?
Starting point is 00:44:13 I'm trying to put more stuff on there. I got a few Instagram followers off of me talking about how bad yours was and how there was all sorts of rodents on yours. Are you serious? Yeah. Rodents. Not snakes and... Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:24 Snakes. I also, I will go ahead and say it on air. I ran into a black bear. I'll be posting that soon. Were you scared? I was a little scared for a few seconds. How big was he? I think it was an adolescent.
Starting point is 00:44:35 I don't know how to say how big he was. How big is this, Matt? Don't ask me how big your thing is there. Yeah. What do you say? It's pretty big, right? Ain't that big. I've seen bigger.
Starting point is 00:44:46 I mean, I've seen bigger, but it's not bad. It's fair. This show was on television. going to be so much better. It was an adolescent bear on the trail that I was coming up. So are adolescents naive to things? I mean, there's never been a, I didn't know this so afterwards,
Starting point is 00:45:02 which I would have been much, much more calm. There's never been a bear attack in Big Bend in history. Because black bears are more docile. Brown bears and grizzlies, that's what you have to worry about. But it's black bear country, and it was walking up the trail. I had, I yelled at it, I was like, hey,
Starting point is 00:45:18 so to get its attention. Oh, you did say something to him? Yes. because I needed him, but he was just looking for food. He was sniffing around in the middle of the trail. It's called the window trail. If you look it up on Big Bend, you go two miles down and then you go two miles back up. I'm all the way back up. And the sun was in my eyes, so I had my hat low, so he kind of snuck up on me.
Starting point is 00:45:37 Well, I guess I snuck up on him. And so he didn't see me. And so I clapped so he could see me. And they tell you to pick up rock and throw rocks towards the bear and it'll run away. So I was throwing, I picked up some rocks, and I started throwing it at, throwing them at the bear and he was running away, but he was running up the trail. So I have to keep walking.
Starting point is 00:45:58 Any sounds? Did he make any sounds? No, he didn't make any noises. And then so I, he finally knew where I was. And he was just walking up the trail as I was walking up the trail, maybe 30 yards ahead of me. And then eventually I threw a couple more rocks when he stopped
Starting point is 00:46:11 and then he got off the trail. Last question about your little nature trail walk. What did you eat? When I was camping? Yeah. I went to, I bought like sandwich stuff and I had trail. mix. I have, um, I had some calacchies that I had bought from a calachi shop,
Starting point is 00:46:27 Kruskas in Ellinger, Texas, I believe. Great calachies. And what else that I eat? That's about it. Sandwich stuff, calacies, mount on trail mix. No, uh, eggs Benedict. Oh, and I have, um, these, uh, kind of freeze dried meals. You can boil water and you pour. I had, uh, chicken and dumplings and I had a pad tie. How are the, how are the, how are the freeze dreds? The freeze dries are solid. I did commercials when I lived in Utah for the freeze dried. Yeah. I did basically that type of stuff.
Starting point is 00:46:58 You just boil like a cup of water. I have a little stove. You boil a cup of water. You pour it in there. Make sure the lid's on the stove and don't put boiling water in your hand like I did. Sorry about that. And then you just wait like 10 minutes and then it's good to eat. All right.
Starting point is 00:47:11 We have a small bit of breaking news. Is it a breaking news? That's one. That's it. Okay. ESPN is shaking up their broadcast team for the, The NBA. Doris Burke is out.
Starting point is 00:47:26 Has been demoted to the number two team. Dorisberg will be off the number one team. Richard Jefferson stays. Oh, that's, okay. Mike Breen stays, and the add-on is Tim Legler. I like legs. I like legs a lot. I don't hate Doris Burke.
Starting point is 00:47:45 The only problem with Doris Burke is when, like, they're going to, what do they call it, Matt? When you're going off to a break and you throw a little like... Segway? Yeah, okay. Well, like, you know, who does a great job? Bill Raftery, like onions or with a twist or whatever. So she tries to do that kind of stuff, and it's very forced and not very good. I think it's because they tell them to do that.
Starting point is 00:48:03 Yes, exactly. Right, right. So it's not good at that. But her basketball analysis, I think is good. Yeah, I have... How do I do this delicate? And Richard Jefferson's basketball analysis is horrible. I'm not a big rich...
Starting point is 00:48:16 I actually like Doris. I would rather see... But I like Doris Berg more than Richard Jefferson. I agree with that. But I don't think either is. like unbelievable. I don't think, I don't think Doris Burke is like
Starting point is 00:48:26 incredible. She's good. But yeah. So they're shaking things up. The crew got, I wouldn't say universal crush, but it was very few. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:35 And again, it's all about what's, how good the series is. I like legs. JJ Redick was great. And then he, now he's coaching the Lakers. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:42 All right. So there's a very little bit of minor news on that. So, uh, yeah, Doris Burke is out. And Tim Legler's in.
Starting point is 00:48:49 Tim Legler's very, very good. All right. 1110 here on the Matt, Thomas show with Ross 713212-5790. So real quick, so Joe Mixen yesterday or two days ago we found out was not going to be available for the first part of the season, first four weeks. And Nick Casario was very, we know what's going on, we're not going to tell you. And because it's important to us in the building, it's important to Joe.
Starting point is 00:49:18 And that's all it's important to, whether we tell you or not, because their feeling is, is that. that if you give out information and then it doesn't come into pass or things change, then the organization gets ripped for not being honest. And D'Amico basically, when he was his turn on the podium yesterday, doubled down on that and said, hey, you know, I'm a player. The player wants privacy. We respect that. We want our own privacy.
Starting point is 00:49:41 When he comes back, he comes back. And I think I would probably say 55 to 60% of the fans probably said, that's fine. We can live with that. And there was 40% that said, wait a minute. You know, we're not asking for an MRI, but he is a key part of your team. And if we're supposed to root for your team, we want to know as much information as possible. So, again, the end thought I had about it yesterday because I took a lot of phone calls in both directions on it was, I just think, Damiko, just, I think you're asking for trouble when you say, we're not going to tell you, and we'll tell you when we want to tell you. Because they're obviously trying to hide something, whether it's, there was an injury that took place that they didn't know about and found out late, whether it.
Starting point is 00:50:22 whether there was an injury that happened, they don't want to tell us what happened, because it's embarrassing or something, or it's one of those situations that they know the answer. He's not going to play this year, but they don't want to make them a mistake and say, well, we didn't address the issue in getting him back and ready to go
Starting point is 00:50:37 when we needed more running backs and besides just signing Nick Chup. So I don't know, I don't know where you stand on this. Is it wrong to say I don't really have a strong opinion? I kind of get both sides. Like, what is it that we owe you that this human being is hurt to give you the prognosis and the weeks and all that type of stuff. So I do get that perspective, but the fact of the matter is, is when you're a professional
Starting point is 00:51:01 athlete, those types of things generally do come out. And it's not anything hyper-personal. It's not like you're talking about the intricacies of looking at the diagnosis and charts and all that type of stuff. I said, he's got a foot injury. He'll be back in six weeks. That's not like a huge invasion of privacy to me. That's my point, is that if you just say Joe's going to be gone for a while,
Starting point is 00:51:21 He suffered the injury this way. We feel bad. We look forward to getting him back. I just, what you do is when you don't get from information, you give those that do get paid to find the information, more ammunition to go find it. Yeah. Because Schefter's pissed.
Starting point is 00:51:35 Shefter's like, they're not telling us. And I don't. Oh, really? Yeah. He made a tweet about it a couple days ago. It's like the load of secrecy, and I'm paraphrasing here, is something that's surprising to me
Starting point is 00:51:47 why they're not being more transparent about Joe Mixing's situation. It is bizarre. and it's rare. I don't know what the heck's going on over there. More breaking news this time from the Astros next. Yes, and a gut feeling hit for you. Yes, 1113 on Sports Talk 790. More breaking news in the world of sports.
Starting point is 00:52:10 This time on a local perspective. I'm going to give this another one. Ooh. Yeah, I think it's two. But now three. Okay. Go ahead, Maddie. Yeah, Joe Espada a few minutes ago said that's...
Starting point is 00:52:29 Now, this is kind of tempered if you want to... I think it's kind of tempered. Mm-hmm. Lance McCuller's Jr. will work out of the bullpen in the short term, but could be available to start this finale against the Angels on Monday. Hmm. So he's going to be in a long relief role.
Starting point is 00:52:51 And if they don't need him in said long relief roll, he will start. That's what it seems like. Yes, because again, the Astros do not have an off day until I want to say a week from Monday. So that's, well, the rest is homestand, and that's quite a bit of games. Actually, that's the rest of the homestand and then the road trip to, I believe, Texas. Okay, wow. So, yeah, they don't have an off day for a while. It's a stretch of like 10 or 11th and straight games.
Starting point is 00:53:18 So that's a gut feeling hit on my part, probably a little later than that. I thought it was going to be. He's got to throw out of the bullpen first. That's true. Well, I'm still giving myself credit. I would give yourself credit to. Thank you. I talked about, and I was,
Starting point is 00:53:33 I mean, I will state my reasoning that I didn't think he'd come out of the bullpen is because he walks too many guys and he puts too many people on base. Now, if it's a long, if it's a mop-up type of situation, that makes sense. This is to me as close to a we don't need you anymore type maneuver. If he were not under contract for almost $18 million, Next year, I agree. I think he'd be gone. There's no way he's taking his swell. There's no way that he understands a situation.
Starting point is 00:54:05 No, he understands. No, no, I don't think so. You don't think he thinks he thinks he's that close and he's been great? He said that and you weren't here. Okay. He's setting his last start against Baltimore. He's like, man, if that sinker just drops, I'm this close. Oh, well.
Starting point is 00:54:20 It's funny that you would interpret that way because I would do the same thing, but I heard say something completely different Jeez. Okay, well, he's got a face reality then.
Starting point is 00:54:28 I don't think Lance... I will say I didn't see his last time out. Yeah. Was it, I mean, how bad was it?
Starting point is 00:54:32 Five walks. That's not good. No. Did he throw 12 innings? No. No. No, that one thing about the Baltimore series
Starting point is 00:54:44 and though they hit the ball well, they did not pitch well. Javier and McCullors both did not go very long in the country. Four innings pitched, three earned runs, five walks.
Starting point is 00:54:52 87 pitches. Okay. No. here's the problem Lance and it's to your point actually Lance doesn't get it you know that I just don't get it
Starting point is 00:55:04 what we're doing here in 10 minutes Lance doesn't get it I think he had deep down he has to understand okay maybe at its core he should in front of a bunch of reporters he I could believe him saying he's close deep down in his heart does he believe I hope deep down in his heart he believes it
Starting point is 00:55:19 well I'm saying deep down in his heart does he believe he is being done wrong by the Astros I don't think that I'm not willing to say that Yeah I'm I'm If I again I don't know Lance very well at all
Starting point is 00:55:34 I'm Here's my This is a terrible guess But I don't think I'm that far off I've worked my ass off for two plus years To get back to where I need to be a starting pitcher I just had a blister Which I can't control
Starting point is 00:55:51 I'm doing everything I can I have this sinker of mine that as long as it drops, I'll be good. I'm just, I'm on the brink. It reminds me, frankly, of a guy in your sales department, Ross, that hasn't hit his number in a long time. And he's the one that goes in and says, man, it's like a car salesman. You have to sell 11 cars. You've sold four. Man, I had five deals.
Starting point is 00:56:18 You blame everyone else. Well, you can blame other people. You can say that I was just this. close, something happened. He's to me, he's the sales guy Rossi that hasn't hit his number, but has a list of reasons why he's on the precipice,
Starting point is 00:56:33 on the cusp of hitting that number. You could be right. Because, for example, last year, when Ryan Presti was all butt hurt that they signed Josh Hader and it's like, brother, you are not Josh Hater. So a lot of these, one of the reasons athletes get to the heights that they do is because
Starting point is 00:56:49 of a high level of self-confidence and a belief in themselves, even with their backs. against the wall. And especially with a guy like Ryan Presley, who is known to be sensitive, Lance McCullough, Jr., known to be sensitive. Yes. I could buy what you're selling. So that's my take on that, is that I don't think he likes this.
Starting point is 00:57:09 I don't think he understands it. And he's also probably going, we need starting pitching. But the problem, the problem is the problem is the reason why the team is struggling starting pitching is because you can't go deep in the games. Well, maybe we need to have like a nice sit down with Lance. Just tell him what's going on. Labor Day weekend's coming up. We got plans.
Starting point is 00:57:29 Okay. You want to do it. Hey, Lance, your ERA is almost seven. You're walking like five guys every time you get out there. The team is in the thick of an American League West race. Your field independent pitching numbers are bad. Basically, any number that you look at is bad. And he's basically, in my mind, he's probably also thinking,
Starting point is 00:57:49 are you kidding me? Cast off Jason Alexander is getting an opportunity to prove himself more than I am? Wait a minute. I'm the one that. look where this team was eight or nine years ago when I was healthy and ready to go. Are we role playing this now? Look, Lance, we appreciate everything that you've done
Starting point is 00:58:02 and all the speeches you provided and breaking off 24 curveballs. H-Town for life or die in the age. We're going to bury you in the H. And I don't know if that means Houston at this point. But quite frankly, you'd be off the team if you weren't making $18 million next year. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:21 Yeah. And that's a hard conversation. I'm sure it was for Probably Joe Espada and or Dana Brown. No, that's... And, you know, look, Joe is so pro player. I mean, most managers are. Being my way or the highway in 2025 ain't going to work in Major League Baseball,
Starting point is 00:58:44 for that matter, any part of coaching. Yeah, he believes in his guys. So I'm sure they tried to soft pedal as best they could, but you know what? Numbers don't lie sports, RV. They just don't. And he's also probably probably, And I'm thinking if we're trying to role play
Starting point is 00:59:02 Lance here, he's like, wait a minute, I've made one start. You're not giving me one more opportunity. Now, again, this is where I think the soft pedal comes into play. He might be available Monday. Okay? Yeah. So it's trying to tempering the demotion a little bit. I think ideally, ideally the Astros would get up 10-0 or down 10-0 against somebody.
Starting point is 00:59:25 And then you could throw Lance McCuller Jr. in a clean inning, and he can give you two, three-inings of work. to work things out, to work out the kinks. You cannot now, first inning is not high leverage, but you can lose games in the first inning. And Lance McCullors Jr. has lost several games for the Astros in the first couple innings, and they can't afford to do that right now. I'm sorry, Lance.
Starting point is 00:59:44 And I love you. And I got one more thing for you, Ross. Let's say he goes and does this for two weeks and kicks ass. Two things can come into play. One, he can get back in the starting rotation. And number two, he can solidify his playoff spot. Yeah, and if he's a disaster, well, guess what? Oh, got another blister.
Starting point is 01:00:00 We'll see you next year. Yeah. Because I guarantee you right now, if you were constructing a 26-man wildcard roster for the first round of which best of three, he ain't on it. No. And there's a chance he wouldn't be on the divisional series roster. No. So if I'm Lance, I take, and again, this is hard to do. It's like a demotion.
Starting point is 01:00:21 Yeah, it is. You can either take the demotion and prove the naysayers wrong. Or you can go, it's like a guy that goes to AAA. We've talked to hundreds of athletes that have gotten demoted to go back to AAA. They can go down there and pout or then go and fix their swing or fix their approach and come back better than ever. It happens. Or you can get traded to the Cubs and get DFAed. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:45 Or you can be DFA and accept an assignment with the Baltimore Orioles, says Sean Dubin. Oh. Oh, I forgot that happened while I was gone. Poor guy. It was good for two months. Then he gets shelled like three straight times in the DFA. How many times the Taylor Scott
Starting point is 01:01:01 been with the teams had you been gone? Well, I think there's three. Bryce Matthews has been up and down. I missed a lot. You did. I'm going to catch up. All right.
Starting point is 01:01:08 713-212-5-790. If you want to join our conversation, 7-1-3-212-5-7-90. Now, for the next half hour, if there are things in your life, you just don't get. 7-13-21-2-5-7-9. It could be about sports.
Starting point is 01:01:26 It could be about life. The three of us are three of different. generations, three of different education levels. One is class. What is brilliance? One is sophistication. And then you have Jonathan and Ross. Wasn't there a... Not too long ago?
Starting point is 01:01:41 Excuse me? Wasn't there... Isn't there always gun violence going on on the campus? Oh, wow. He's going to the gun violence card. Guys, Nacadocious is very safe. You can get your education without worrying about the pop-pops outside. I just don't get you.
Starting point is 01:02:02 713-212. 5.7.90. Come in with your Just Don't Gets next on 790. Do you have something in your life that you just don't get? No need to worry. No need to fret. We will discuss the topics to see if we comprehend. The things that may confuse our friends. It's time to say, I just don't get it. All right. Here we go. 713-212-5-7-90.
Starting point is 01:02:37 What don't you get in your life? I am of the oldest of the group. I'm the most mature. Actually, Jonathan might be the most mature. All right, I'm the most immature. I don't know. I think it's pretty close between us. One of the reasons we get along.
Starting point is 01:02:59 I know. We don't take life too seriously. No. All right. What don't you get? 713, 212 579. We got James on the line. We'll get to him.
Starting point is 01:03:08 If the rest of you, come on in. 713, 2125.790. What don't you get? You have been on the trip. Did you write down the things you don't get? Yeah, I got a couple things. Please. First of all, I was out in beautiful nature.
Starting point is 01:03:20 I was at some national parks. I went to a state park. And just about everywhere I went, I saw a bunch of litter everywhere. And I ended up picking up a good amount here and there, especially when I was at my campsite, which had, they tell you, they tell you that because bears are in the area. They say, don't leave any food stuff.
Starting point is 01:03:40 There's a greasy paper bag at the campsite. There's orange peels all over the place, used wipes that I had to pick up. And if you're in nature and you're in a national park, I figure there's some part of you that appreciates nature and would want to take care of it. I don't get these people who are going out here and throwing their trash everywhere when you're supposed to be caring for and curating and appreciating nature in these national and state parks. I just don't get it. Oh, we don't have a sounder, do we? I thought we hit a sounder. No, I don't think we ever had it.
Starting point is 01:04:21 No, it's my fault. What do you want? You want a sag around like Scooby going, huh? That's actually not a bad idea. Scooby. Rott row. Rott roll.
Starting point is 01:04:30 I don't get it. Weird. Talk like Scooby Day. You're going to lose your voice. I can't. I got to do a U of H free game show tonight. Come on now. All right.
Starting point is 01:04:38 Forget that. There you go. I don't get it. It's very upsetting. I think people, I will say, unfortunately, I get it. I think people have any opportunity to drop trash. You're going to do it, whether it's in a movie theater, whether it's a ballpark, whether it is
Starting point is 01:04:51 at your office. Have you seen our carpets in our prep room? Yeah, you're disgusting. Yeah, you've been dropping stuff all over there, place over there. Well, that doesn't seem fair, but that's fine. Okay. I'm going to say, unfortunately, the average human being, at least in our country, that we live in a love,
Starting point is 01:05:07 we're slabs. So I'm going to say, Rossi, unfortunately, I'm sorry to say, I totally get it. You people make me sick. I know. I know. I know. All right, what else you got? Me? You want to go one more? Yeah. All right.
Starting point is 01:05:19 So I'm in the Chesos Basin Campground at Fort, it's not Fort Bend, Big Ben. It's one of the darkest skies in the entire country. And it's during the new moon. So people come there for stargazing. You could see the, look at some of the pictures I put on my Instagram at SportsRV. On my Instagram at SportsRV, you could see some of the, you could literally see the Milky Way galaxy. Then in the middle of the night, some jackass. is got like one of those mega-powered
Starting point is 01:05:47 spotlights, and he's pointing it up in the sky. Now, I don't, people don't know this, but it takes your eyes like 10 minutes to adjust to the total dark, uh, total dark, at least. Mm-hmm. And this Yehu is out there, just like putting his spotlight all over the place and in the sky and on the mountains and all this type of stuff,
Starting point is 01:06:11 pissing me off. And I really was thinking about going and saying, say something to do him, but then he stopped finally. And I just don't get that either. We're all out here trying to walk a look at the stars. Not you be a buffoon with your giant spot. Oh, look, I shine the spotlight on the mountain. That's cool. No, you're an idiot.
Starting point is 01:06:28 And I hate you. And I just don't get you. This would have been better, frankly, if you'd have gone on an Instagram live on this or get a reels, because people run. I'm going to stop. Oh, here we go. Okay. So I'm going to tell you, I just don't get it because I've never been in that situation.
Starting point is 01:06:43 So I can't speak to it. All right, mine. Go. Number one, I told you this earlier today. The Jeff Bag will hate on broadcasts. I just don't get it. I think he's fine. Again, I don't need 160 games of it.
Starting point is 01:06:56 Yeah? But 15 a year's not going to kill me. I'm with you. I don't mind it, but I do get why people don't like it. People are used. Matt, you could be literally, there are people on this, on air on this station who think Mike Brin does a bad job. Like, people just do that.
Starting point is 01:07:12 Bagg! People, like, really. really good broadcasters and good I think for whatever reason people love to hate on color guys color guys
Starting point is 01:07:21 color guys color commentators color commentators Matthew I was a little nervous about that oh Lord and women like Doris Burke
Starting point is 01:07:33 yeah I don't mind Doris Burke or Tony Romo I think does a great job and people hate on him Tom Brady at least got better who else
Starting point is 01:07:42 by the time Brady's broadcasting rules are a lot more relaxed He can criticize officials now and he can also go into the production meetings. What changed? The NFL changed it. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 01:07:51 Because, you know, he's got a, he's really involved in the Raiders. I mean, probably more than any broadcaster should be. I think the NFL's... So isn't an unfair advantage being banned? I believe it's an unfair advantage. I think the NFL is going to tell him at some point, fish your cut bait on your broadcasting career. Oh, I got another quick one.
Starting point is 01:08:06 Oh, okay, I got one after that. I don't get why you call yourself Mr. Texas. I do. You're an immigrant, number one. We're all immigrants. Number two I don't get what the basis is for you to say this This is you think Galvison's cool
Starting point is 01:08:23 And you've been to Lubbock a few times And now you're Mr. Texas It doesn't make any sense to me I've been in Brennan Austin San Antonio Driven through some cities Corpus Christi What does that mean?
Starting point is 01:08:33 I love them all You've never been to the Capitol building I've been in the national parks You don't like enchiladas You don't like tamales You barely tolerate brisket You're hooked No sweet tea. Don't forget that.
Starting point is 01:08:45 Oh, no sweet tea. I mean, the list goes on and on. You get why I'm Mr. Texas, don't you? I put a poll on my Twitter at SportsRV. Who is a worst Mr. Texas candidate? Matt Thomas or General Santa Ana. And right now you were losing 65 to 35. Well, shout out of 35%.
Starting point is 01:09:01 I guess. All right, mine quickly. I just don't get why people go to their phones or go to their cars, sit in the car, and shoot videos. Oh. Oh, yeah. Okay, I'll give you something.
Starting point is 01:09:16 Like they just sit and they got their seatbelt on and they're like in the middle of their car and they're talking about their day. Which is really not very safe at all. But I mean, I'm going to do one the next seven to sit 10 days. Okay. And it's going to be so hilarious. Is it? Yeah. Don't over settle Matt.
Starting point is 01:09:32 Because I'm going to get in the car and go, here I am in my car. That's it. Oh, that's hilarious. That people are going to love that. That's a real knee slapper. I'm asking you a question. Why do people feel like? they have to go in their cars and do videos.
Starting point is 01:09:47 Help me. Walk me through this, please. It's 2025 and people film everything. You can't do it in your apartment? You can't do it at your house? I don't know because I think it's, you don't have to deal with the back. What was that? Unless you watching videos on your phone. I don't get why you're watching. You can't put your phone down for five seconds.
Starting point is 01:10:03 I like a lot. Take your phone away, like you're 14. I'm, yeah, I'm on your side. You've never done that. No, I haven't. You do those creepy videos with graphics behind you. A green screen, pal. All right.
Starting point is 01:10:20 That's called Chroma Key. I'm doing another one. You know, I'm doing one today. On what? Review of Interstellar Barbecue. One of the, they got a Michelin star. I believe they were top 10 in the last,
Starting point is 01:10:33 I think they were number six in the last top 50. And how many, how long do you have to wait in the line? I got there at 1003.3. I was eating by about 1115. I know you're going to get mad of me Go ahead
Starting point is 01:10:47 Waiting in line for an hour for barbecue I just don't get it Okay let's say you're going to a restaurant And it's a 20 minute wait And you sit down, you get your drinks You have to order your food, right? And how long does that take? 15, 20 minutes?
Starting point is 01:11:01 I don't take 15. So by the time you get to the restaurant By the time you're sitting down and your food hits the table, it could be an hour and 15, right? Easily. Yes or no? It's a possibility.
Starting point is 01:11:11 Okay. All right, ain't that bad. But usually it's going to be a... Quit your whining. It's going to usually be steak, baked potatoes, salad. Oh, my God. This beef, rib that I ate. Beef rib, I ain't waiting one hour and 12 minutes for beef rib.
Starting point is 01:11:27 Like I said, this is handcrafted smoke for 12 hours. Handcrafted my ass. Michelin Star! You're not, you are not Mr. Texas. If you are not waiting an hour for Michelin Star, Texas Barbecue. You are the worst candidate in history. You can see the tray on my Instagram at SportsRV. I'll be dropping a review video later today.
Starting point is 01:11:46 Jonathan, what don't you get? Oh, I'll kill me, man. I got one for you. I don't get why you think your team's got a chance in hell of winning tonight. Oh! Oh! You know, I... Are you going to the game?
Starting point is 01:12:00 Don't be a fraud. Are you going to the game? I'm going to the game. I'm not talking to you, Maddie. I could. No, you're not. Your girl wants you to watch some show on a lifetime. You're good.
Starting point is 01:12:10 You're going to get playing. I don't get, going back to Rogers' call, because this happens often while I'm screening callers, is that they just think because the team sucks or they have bad expectations for the team that they're not still pro ball players. Like these guys aren't AAA, double A, you know, like these guys are just the same level with the horrible chemistry and horrible managing team. So I don't understand why that keeps happening with all these older people, I would say older. Yeah. Yeah. Get them. It's not, I don't know. It drugs me in a wrong way when I have to hear that.
Starting point is 01:12:45 Hmm. When they win for nothing and somebody says that's not good enough. But like, and you know. I mean, that's ridiculous. It happens not just Roger, but it happens on all these other callers that you're like, oh, like, why is this? This is Nat. I'm like, you guys don't understand how sore one these ballplayers are after even just one game. So all the recovery, all the mental they have to do.
Starting point is 01:13:03 Yes. The IVs that have put in when they go into the hotel rooms, all that stuff. Like, there's so much more to the sport and going. back to back at a quality start, then just, oh, go hit ball, go long. So if I tell people that Yardon and Alvarez is not playing today, you don't think people should wig out about that. It should be, it should be like, okay, good. You got a home run? All right, we know it's good. He's the same time. He just came back from injury. He played for two games. One of them in the
Starting point is 01:13:27 field, correct? Yeah, and left field. May it started a good on. And they're giving them a day off. It seems very, very normal. I get that. All right. I will tell Jonathan why that people do this. Number one, they're spoiled fan bases. And number two, I think a lot of people don't watch a lot of baseball outside of just the Astros. They tunnel in on the Astros. Other teams have
Starting point is 01:13:51 runners in scoring position issues. Other teams lose to bad teams. As I mentioned to Roger, they split a four-game set with the Dodgers. I'm sure Dodgers radio was all upset about that. Like, it happens. Talk about the Rockies splitting the series with the Dodgers. Anyways. All right,

Starting point is 01:14:47 why the Michelin Man is white wow that's yeah tires are black hmm so that's just start a war thank you sir the Michelman is white hmm
Starting point is 01:15:04 oh okay you have an answer yes go ahead the tire that the rubber tires are naturally gray and white. It was not until 1912 that carbon chemicals were mixed into the white tires, which turned them black. You learn something new every day. Let me tell you something.
Starting point is 01:15:24 There are other shows in this marketplace that are going to give you a deep Texan roster breakdown. This show is going to tell you the origin of the Michelin Tire guy. That's what separates us from the rest of the people in this market. Yes. Shout out to Mank Creek High School. shout out to all of you playing your first high school football games busy night on the old high school Slate yeah says our lumberjack fan from earlier to show one rando lumberjack guy who says i'll go to any game in town but the school that i went to
Starting point is 01:15:53 mm-mm-mm-mm-mm-mm-matt and spring branch matt what don't you get hey matt and ross i was just going to be a passive listener today i was just going to listen to the people of Houston calling, but when Ross, when he talked about the national parks, you triggered me. The worst thing that happened in national parks was COVID because more people had to get outside and they started discovering national parks.
Starting point is 01:16:20 The more people would get, the more trashy people. So it's bad news. And apropos to your spotlight, bro, I don't get speaker guy at the beach. I'm there listening to the nice wave and relax. I'm not here to listen to your bro country or your regatoll and whatever the hell you got going on. So
Starting point is 01:16:36 I don't get speaker guy at the beach. Thanks. Thank you. Yeah, I'm with you. There's also speak. Now, I've also done it in my day. People do speakers on the trail. First of all, that's a bad idea if you,
Starting point is 01:16:48 well, no, it's actually not a bad idea if you want to scare bears away. But yeah, you're supposed to enjoy nature sounds. I'm with you. I do speaker at the, I've done that before. I mean, you want to just jam out and put some music on. Can't you have earbuds on or no? Yeah, you can do earbuds. But I think, you know, people get together with a group of people and they put some music on and go to the beach.
Starting point is 01:17:05 I mean, I get it. But I also get if you want to just be there to be in, enjoying the beach sound, the relaxing beach sounds or the relaxing sounds of nature. I'm going to go with I get music on the beach. Definitely don't. In the park? No. In the on the beach, yes. At my campsite, I put on some music a little of like some low music some of the time. Some of the time I was just listening and I didn't do it all one way.
Starting point is 01:17:26 And sometimes I was putting on like some relaxing music low so I could hear the nature as well. Like my wife said, we're going to Hawaii next year. She says, you're not bringing your phone to the beach. Yes. Or the iPad or any of that stuff. I said, okay. I'm fine. You know what I'm going to do
Starting point is 01:17:39 The plan is for us to go To Hawaii next July I'm going to try to attempt To not tweet for an entire week Yes That sounds great I think I'm gonna do it I'm gonna enjoy it
Starting point is 01:17:51 I'm not gonna say it's gonna change your life It won't hurt it It's good It's for the better Don't even look No delete the app I don't think I can do that Delete the app for a week
Starting point is 01:18:01 You really think I can do that for a whole week How long are you going to be going? I don't know We've even thought about it It's so expensive The Nogo Hawaii. Go to Cancun. It's Carly's high school graduation trip.
Starting point is 01:18:12 Oh, well, she can go to Cancun. I don't want her going to Cancun. A little dangerous down there. Cancun's fine. What do you mean? First of all, I know you, you're going to book a nice, all-inclusive resort. You're not going to leave the resort. You're in zero danger.
Starting point is 01:18:26 Are you sure? Okay, it's okay. I can't say zero, but you're in 99.999% danger-free. Okay. Slick Rick on 790 Slick. What don't you get? Hey, what's that? happening guys i just
Starting point is 01:18:39 sounds like our fans i'm an astro fan can you hear why i don't understand oh jesus that's our that's our phone slick rig try to call back on a different line can you call slick head tell slick to call back i don't get why we continue to openly rip our phone service and it never gets fixed
Starting point is 01:18:58 it's because it's internet base and internet can go out sometimes i mean they told us internet base it was going to be better who did who said that i want to know who this person is the IT people. Everything's going to be streamlined, guys, and it's going to be on the cloud, and it's just going to be, it's going to make your life so much easier.
Starting point is 01:19:12 It's not. It's made my life more aggravating. John in Lake City, John, what don't you get? How do you all? I just graduated last year at a high school, so I'm fairly new to adulting. Something I don't understand is how there can be two gas stations
Starting point is 01:19:27 right next to each other, and one's like $3, the other is $2.50. John, where'd you go to high school? Clear Spring High School. And are you in, How old you working right now? I'm going to firefighting school in this upcoming spring. Oh, nice.
Starting point is 01:19:42 Oh, that's outstanding. I got a good friend of mine. It's a firefighter. You guys, you're going to have a tough life, but a rewarding life, my friend. Good luck to you on that. Thank you very much. Yeah, thank you. I don't get it either.
Starting point is 01:19:52 I see gas stations across street all the time, not spite gas stations, just general gas stations that are 20 to 25 cent discrepancy. I don't get it. I don't understand either. I guess somebody can explain that to me. Well, it could be a mandate by the, by the people don't. No, I've seen the same prices across from each other. Yeah, but I mean, what if, what if Shell says or REL says, whatever their company?
Starting point is 01:20:16 There's REL says we're going to charge more money. Oh, it's company wide. Like, I have a very, I can see that, I guess. I have a very good friend of mine whose wife determines gas station cost for gas stations in the southeast, the Atlanta metro area and all throughout the southeast. She determines it. Nobody else does. Okay. So maybe somebody had an off day. You never know these things.
Starting point is 01:20:35 Stephen and Pearland Stephen what don't you get? Hey, I don't get why I went to Home Depot the other day and a snickered bar costs $3.48. Yeah, compared to when I was growing up, it was 50 cents out of good industry. Why are you going to Home Depot to get your candy? Why don't you go to like to 7-Eleven?
Starting point is 01:21:00 Well, you know, I was just over there and I was like, hey, why not pick up a stickers bar? And I looked at it. Yeah, I don't think he. He went to Home Depot for a Snickers bar, Matt. I think you're making a massive mistake, Stephen, going to a Home Depot. I'm sure he happened to be at Home Depot. He doesn't go.
Starting point is 01:21:14 Man, I want a Snicker bar. You know what I'm going to go? It's time to head to Home Depot. Yeah, it doesn't work that way. My name is Roy Roth, a lot of the videos that you're posting. Oh, thank you, Stephen. I wouldn't either. They're not any good.
Starting point is 01:21:27 They're a waste of time. He won't give you that kind of good material. At Sports RV on Instagram. Speaking of that. Do you know there's a new Snickers bar, Stephen? I saw this on an ad called Snickers High Protein. Oh, okay. Yeah, people are into the protein now.
Starting point is 01:21:42 20 grams of protein. That's a lot. Four grams of sugar. My guess, it tastes like crap. What about fiber? 20 grams in a Snickers bar, that is a lot. It's probably not great, but, you know, if you need a protein load, Matt, which I know you do. Yeah, just cast a little skinny.
Starting point is 01:22:05 Shut up, Tom. I can hear him sniff. That's our engineer. Hey, Tom, our phone line sucks. Did you know that, Tom? Cameras been working. Our internet sucks. Our camera sucks.
Starting point is 01:22:18 Our phone lines sucks, Tom. You're doing a great job, Tom. Tom. Caves. Look at my calves. I didn't say it. These calves got a lot of work out about 430 yesterday morning, if you know what I'm saying. Nobody needs to know that.
Starting point is 01:22:33 I just told you. What are you doing? Chad and Cats. What don't you get? You're in calf lifts? Man, you know. Chad? Oh, that's the same line.
Starting point is 01:22:44 Carson, man, brown with Micah... Here's line three before you. Hear that, Tom! It's not his fault. It's easy to blame him. Sorry, Chad. We would have gotten to you, but we have internet phone lines. Astros on deck.
Starting point is 01:22:58 You ready? Not really. I'm not going to provide much analysis, but I'm going to try. You can sit with me. You can see each other in a few days. I'm going to BS. Just sit with me. Straight BS analysis.
Starting point is 01:23:09 I've only watched one game in the last week. I will not throw it. anything at you that will throw you off. Thank you. Oh, I don't know. Oh, God, it'd be fun to do that. Brian McTarrett's going to join us as part of it, 15 minutes here on Sports Talk 790.
