Starting point is 00:00:00 This is Matt and Ross in the morning. Six o'clock in H-town. Good morning. It's Matt and Ross in the morning on Sports Talk 790. Barshow makes the call and the catch, and that is the ball game. The Houston Astros take game one in the Bronx on their six-game New York City road trip as they defeat the Yankees tonight, 9 to 7. there was a small part of me
Starting point is 00:00:51 that was hoping that the Astros would win 9 to 5. Because this song is not necessarily match. The highlights are being in New York or beating the Yankees again, but it's kind of bringing me down. RIP Dolly, holy smokes. May she rest.
Starting point is 00:01:11 Now, I've never met her. You never met her? I've never seen her in concert. No. But obviously, anybody, even does not even consider themselves, huge country fans would know exactly what Dolly Parton has done throughout your entire life as an actress, as a singer, as a songwriter. You know, I was talking about this to my son because I saw it's left in the house these days. Ross, we're losing nice people. I would say yes.
Starting point is 00:01:35 Universally beloved people. The list is shorter and shorter and shorter and shorter and Dolly Parton was on the list. Universally beloved. Like you and I, we are loved by many, but hated by also quite a few. Hated by plenty. Oh, sure. Absolutely. that's okay. If you hate Dolly Parton, you've got an old soul. Yeah. If you're a dumbass on
Starting point is 00:01:54 Instagram, who doesn't realize we talked about the Houston tiles in the video, we talked about the Houston tiles in, and you're saying we don't know anything about Houston history, you hate us. I had to actually edit that comment that I put. Oh, okay. I just called him stupid, but I was really, was way worse. I just went with the straightforward. You missed this in the 60. It was a 60 second video. And you said we didn't mention something. We mentioned twice. But anyways, yeah. So Dolly Parton, universally beloved. I mean, people have been kind of going through the list recently as like Betty White and a few others, Mr. Rogers, whatever. But yeah, we're losing those types of figures because of how divided everything is in this day and age.
Starting point is 00:02:34 And Dolly Parton, one of the last ones. So it's funny, Chad GPT and Google and whatever, in AI. I said, why would you hate Dolly Parton? Really? on I think it was chat GPT and they said really it's hard to do it because she didn't have political ties and she may have had them but you never knew them somebody screen I saw a screenshot it was somebody putting Donald Trump
Starting point is 00:03:00 honoring her and then the democratic socialist party of America honoring her too and it's like this is the last time this is going to happen yeah that's exactly right she didn't she didn't tell you about her political beliefs she didn't tell you about her religious beliefs she loved conservatives she loved uber liberals she loved everybody and everybody in fact loved her back. Eminem posted some, a letter she said,
Starting point is 00:03:22 like, sorry I couldn't have met you at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I feel connected to you and I wish we could have met. Marshall Mathers, the rapper. What a sweetheart. Yeah. So, I mean, I think you'll join me in this. I'm sad. I am.
Starting point is 00:03:38 I'm way more sad than I thought it would be. I don't know why. Because here's the thing, and we will get to sports obviously. Of course. show of everything here. Oh, that's Ross and I met. Hi. Ross and morning.
Starting point is 00:03:49 It's hard to find nice people anymore. Nice celebrities, too. That don't have political connections that don't get crucified for what they say or believe. She just said, you know what? I love everybody. I want everybody to love me. Yes. And, you know, she was charitable.
Starting point is 00:04:10 She was obviously a very successful businesswoman, but she didn't make it a point where she was going to try rake over her fans. She was, I mean, it was announced by her, I guess, what was a grand nephew, I guess? Like, she got all her family involved in her businesses. He was like the head of security. She brought the family in, made everybody rich. She just
Starting point is 00:04:29 did, it seems like, from what we can tell, did everything the right way. And that is very, very rare in this day and age. It is. So the question now is begged, unfortunately, who's the nicest person left in America? Because I think she was it. So Betty White's dead. Dead. Mr. Rogers? Dead.
Starting point is 00:04:45 Oh, I was going to say Bob Barker, but he had some shadow. He had some skeletons. I was talking to this, I think, with my wife. No, who was I talking? You know, who's more beloved? Betty White, I mean, Donnie partner the Pope. And the Pope's beloved, obviously, by the world. But there's folks that don't believe in.
Starting point is 00:05:03 There's some anti-Catholics, for sure. There's some anti-Catholics out there. There's right. You can't be anti-Dolly Parton. All right, I just asked Google. They say Tom Hanks? He has political affiliations. I don't know if that's necessarily right.
Starting point is 00:05:16 Okay. But, I mean, that's a good. I talk to AI. I don't know. Yeah, that's good. Ciano Reeves? I don't even know if I have. People love Keanu Reeves.
Starting point is 00:05:23 I have no emotions towards Cano Reeves. I love Criano Reeves. What do you mean? The Matrix? John Wick, we're all good. You know what, that's right. Keanu Reeves, you're now the most beloved American. Morgan Freeman?
Starting point is 00:05:34 Oh, this is a good one. Dick Van Dyke. Dick Van Dyke's a hundie. Who hates Dick Van Dyke? Yeah, you can't hate it. And Denzel Washington. I just found out who it is. You're on Alvarez.
Starting point is 00:05:46 With a triple. He's filled up by everybody. Yeah, everybody's complaining about his lack of home runs. He's still scalding balls like 111 miles an hour every time he goes up. The OPS is at 1056 after a three-for-five day yesterday. And he hit 130 games played on the 2026 season, folks. And that'll be the subject of our post-show video today. Hawaiian barbecue in my belly.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Some people said it would never be done again. Yep, but he's all good. I'm going to go one for two on the show. on these show bets. I'm going to win the Tankdale bet comfortably. Yeah, we'll see. I feel really good. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:23 I feel. You still owe for low for low-profito bet, too. So, I owe you. But for those who don't know in our 10-to-two-show. We make a lot of bets. Yeah, we're going to continue to do that. Yeah. That's what you do with your bros.
Starting point is 00:06:33 Yeah. Okay. So I owe you low-profito, which is, I believe, a bag of chips. It's an appetizer. Okay. So let me do this. Let me get you dessert when we go get the Hawaiian barbecue. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:44 I'll go with the dole soft-served. Quite delicious. By the way, I had us over pee yesterday? Yes? That's crack. Yeah, some peas are good. It's just sweet bread and honey. I know, but my God.
Starting point is 00:06:55 It's like bread and butter. This is good. I don't know why. We just love it. And they brought us caramel sauce soon. I'm like, I can't have all that. I mean, the honey was plenty. But if you were a burrow on your head?
Starting point is 00:07:05 Was it for your birthday? No, it was just bro's hanging out. Oh, okay. Put us a burrow on my head. We've done top desserts, right? on Fantasy 5? Honestly, yes, yes, we did. I'm sure we have.
Starting point is 00:07:20 We took like cheesecake and whatever. I can't remember who won. I mean, dang, that's good. We got to do our, we got to break in fantasy 5 in the mornings at one point. I know we will, we will. Not this Friday, because you're out and I might be out too. Let me explain. Friday and Monday, I'm out, and we had this plan a long time ago because my daughter
Starting point is 00:07:37 is making her college volleyball debut this Friday. Are they beating up on some sloppy? Whose road I am playing? Oh, I'm right. I can tell. I'm just, that's no, it's not bad. That's how you start the season off, Matt. Nobody starts the season off against, well, I mean, I guess some teams do like Ohio State or whatever, but Texas has Texas State. And if you're trying to warm up in your Rhode Island volleyball.
Starting point is 00:08:02 Okay. Is it a school? Can I name the mascot of the school? Yes or no. I'm going to say no. All right. Let me tell you. They are playing.
Starting point is 00:08:13 Yeah, you can because I think we've brought this up before. Okay. It is a low D1. The Hilltoppers. No, I'll give you the hint. The hint of the team that she's playing are the Saints. Loyola. No.
Starting point is 00:08:27 Oh, St. Louis? Nope. I can't remember. Sienna. Sienna, okay. Then the next day they're playing, I'm sure this is riveting for those of you in Houston. Holy Cross.
Starting point is 00:08:40 The Crusaders. Oh, wow. The Crusaders. That's violent. And then we're playing Central Connecticut State, who was the tournament hose. So it's a three days. It's three games and three days. Okay.
Starting point is 00:08:49 So that was the perfect term. I'm only going to be able to see her twice. So this weekend in a few more weeks, I'm going to see her again. And that's it. I'm going to time, I'm going to hang out with you? It's about the Rockets. That's fair. Okay.
Starting point is 00:08:58 And the Cougars. Yeah, okay. All right. Six 11 is our time. We're going to get more into the Astros. I do want to get into some of the, and we're going to paraphrase because, unfortunately, there was no audio. I saw some audio on Space City of Jim Crane speaking.
Starting point is 00:09:10 I'm going to go look on their various social platforms and see if they record it and play it and play it. But Jim Crane spoke yesterday. A lot of the things he said, Rossi made sense. I do believe there's a little bit of fibbing involved in one of the things he said. And I'll tell you what that is. That's a radio tease right there, friends. All right.
Starting point is 00:09:29 And we've got The Sounds at 630. We're going to honor Donnie with a game show segment at 630 that I'm not hosting or was a part of. Hmm. That's what you got to listen to the sound of 630. All right. Nick Totoro was not pleased with a performance by his beloved Yankees. against the Astros yesterday. We're going to try to clean it up by 630,
Starting point is 00:09:50 but we have a Mickey Mouse ballpark that is, by the way. People talk about the Crawford boxes? I mean, my goodness. Yeah. Most ballparks are gimmicky. Yeah. Especially Yankee Stadium. Well, the left porch is a joke, the right porch is a joke. Right. I mean, everything else is fine.
Starting point is 00:10:05 Center fields normal. Other than that is great. 713-212.5.7.9. We call them the 6 o'clock, we'll call them the maniacs, right? 6 o'clock maniacs. If you're a 6 o'clock maniac, come on you and join us here this morning. By the way, our friend Cole just texted me, the nicest person remaining in America?
Starting point is 00:10:22 Ribba McIntyre. Who hates Rubin McIntyre? That's not bad. That's a good one. I mean, I would take it over Keanu Reeves. Hmm? Okay. Over Keanu?
Starting point is 00:10:32 Yeah, I think so. I don't know. I think Keanu would beat her up. Oh, Harrison Ford? Is he the nicest person left? Harrison Ford? Yeah, I don't know. He seems, uh...
Starting point is 00:10:40 Hmm. Okay. You know, we could do a poll question of this. should we who's the nice we're gonna think of the four definitive canadest people ever well some people were making the nicest ever mount rushmore and it was dolly and it was mr rogers for sure and i think i can't remember the other two i mean captain kangaroo but that was that's what way back in the day robin williams oh robin williams is a good one he was very beloved and then he himself oh that hurts too that's my funniest community all the time really for me because of his uh
Starting point is 00:11:16 his ad-lib skills. He just could do whatever he wanted to do. It was extremely quick-witted, which Dolly Parton was as well. Yes. I got in like, you know, it was all popping up on my 4U tab, all these old interviews of her and stuff. She's hilarious. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:30 And she knew she had ample bosoms and... Well, duh. I was, people were like, do we ever attracted her? I was never attracted to her. Dolly? Yeah. Dolly never did it for me. She just died, Matt.
Starting point is 00:11:43 Well, I mean, we could still have a rational conversation about it. No. I mean, when Raquel Welch died, she did it for me. A little too fake. Oh, you think shares are fake? You think those are natural? Absolutely. When were women having plastic surgery in 1970?
Starting point is 00:12:00 Oh, I don't know. Oh, you know what? I'm going to find out they are when we come back. Oh, my God. All right, one of the things that chip crates. The body's not cold. She's such a nice person. She's looking from above going, this is fine.
Starting point is 00:12:12 Well, she knows. She talked about it. Okay, 614. It's Matt and Ross in the morning here on Sports Talk 7.001. All right. I found out something wrong about Dolly. Well, actually, I was wrong about Dolly about something. We did a little Google AI or chat GBT check about her breast, which is odd for me to say, but it is what it is.
Starting point is 00:12:31 Her first augmentation goes back to 1967. There you go. I was right. Yeah, you were right. I wasn't saying you were wrong. I just couldn't believe it. Hmm. You couldn't?
Starting point is 00:12:43 I call me naive. Proportionally. A little off. Yeah, but some people are just born them wet that way. She clearly wasn't. And apparently there was rumors about her breast being insured over the years as well. Oh, really? I've not done a deep.
Starting point is 00:12:57 Like my Sotheby's and stuff? I don't know. Like, I should really insure my voice. I guess you could. Especially, hopefully I won't get you sick. Yeah, I'm trying to stay like a couple of feet further away from you. I got a little cold coming on. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:13:11 And I have a... I better not hit first. right there. And part of the charm of working the morning with you is we have a chance to go right to the dock and a box at 10 o'clock, which I want you to do. We'll see. I'm fighting it off all right. Okay.
Starting point is 00:13:21 I feel okay. You look like hell, though. Thank you. All right. So let's do this. We mentioned the Astros win yesterday, 9 to 7. Oh, by the way, they're back in first place because the White Sox beat the Rangers. Let's go white socks.
Starting point is 00:13:36 Futility is just awesome. You would think the Rangers watching the Astros have the worst homestine possible. Well, not possible, but obviously a disappointing homestand. And you would say, okay, we're going to go on a run here. We're going to win 7 to 10. Now, look, the White Sox are good. They're the number two seed in the Miracle League playoffs. So it's not like the Rangers were going to be heavy favorites or favorites at all to go up there and win again.
Starting point is 00:13:57 But the White Sox aren't scaring anybody. Well, see, AOS. It's a pile of mid and to worse. Yeah. You're 66 and 66, and you're in first place. And it's kind of embarrassing. But you take what you can get. Did you see the troops rallying behind Joe Espott?
Starting point is 00:14:12 coming back multiple times in a single game. Yeah, I want to say that there was... How many times they come back from a deficit? Three, I think? Yeah. Yeah, because they were down three-one. Eventually came back to lead, and the Yankees came back to lead, and the Astros came back, and then the Yankees came back,
Starting point is 00:14:29 and then the Astros put together that triple. I don't think triple for Jordan Alvarez is on my bingo card. Was it on yours? No, I don't think so. But he got galloping when he got to third. He was on the move. It wasn't even close. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:42 strange because once he getting that third furlong he gets moving yeah when they heard down the stretch they come he was going yes same thing uh yeah cam smith had a triple as well yep uh yeah cam cam cam cam yanke's not known for the great defense
Starting point is 00:14:57 they're known for the great relief pitching i mean they were terrible yesterday uh huh Ethan peco is Ethan peco four and a third five runs all earned couple home runs and four wall
Starting point is 00:15:12 If you're really, you know, look, the Astros offense has been so mid for so long this year, obviously with the exception of the great Alvarez and whatnot. But you're winning games having to use four relievers per night. You had to get Josh Hader to give you a four-out save. Yes. Which you can't do that very often. I mean, I would assume he's one of the underrated storylines, by the way. When we say, how are the Astros doing this? Because it's not like they're great, but Yorda and Alvarez is number one.
Starting point is 00:15:40 I mean, Josh Hater might be there like number two. Maybe Jeremy Payne you'd put up there, of course. But Hater's been a huge part of it. I mean, 0.81 ERA, four outs and 10 pitches last night. Yeah. I mean, he'd be in theory available to go, but I would highly doubt he would go today. But look, let me tell you, Josh, you know what Josh Hader's thinking? Let's win this damn thing.
Starting point is 00:15:59 Yeah. I'll do whatever we got to do. If we're going to go 82 and 80 win the division, so be it. You have to have the why not us mentality. Now, I think I've got a number of reasons of why not you guys, mostly started pitching. and the back end of the lineup, but they have to have the why not us mentality, which I'm sure Josh Hader does.
Starting point is 00:16:16 Yeah. Can I just tell you I'm done with Taylor Tremel, wonderful human being? Nice, nice kid. He was everyday Tremel when I went to vacation. Yeah, that was right. When they were on the West Coast, he was great. He hasn't had done squat since then.
Starting point is 00:16:30 He said one hit since you left on vacation. He's just a guy. Yeah. He's just a platoon guy. Can't hit Lefties to save his life. And that's why people were wondering why Cam Smith wasn't in the last. lineup as well. He will be tonight.
Starting point is 00:16:42 I can feel that. Yeah. Lamont Wade 0 for 3. Christian Walker, 0 for 5, the two strikeouts. Got another year on that Christian Walker deal. What a hot start he had to this season. He's been terrible. Oh, after about May 15th, you're like, okay, this is the Christian Walker that was worth the money. The Astros are going to pay, and we can live with him for another year now. Yeah, you add the numbers up. 740 OPS 23 homers.
Starting point is 00:17:06 It's not terrible, but it's just been, it's just been horrible since the start of the season. He's had a few super, I mean, the home run that helped them beat, was it the Mariners, I think on Friday and that homestand started out with a late inning jack. That was awesome. But other than that, he's just been again, this is why they're 500. Three to four major superstars. Three to four okay guys
Starting point is 00:17:35 and about of the 26 man roster, 12 guys that would be probably not playing every day on a major league level or at the minor league level at this point. Yeah, you're you're 3, 4, 5. It doesn't sound terrible on paper. Altuve Varsha Walker,
Starting point is 00:17:52 but they just haven't been good all season long. O'Kert looked human yesterday. Brayu is starting to... I feel bad for O'Kert. We're just trotting them out there every day. Dude's going to give him some runs every now and then. Well, he was the Brian of Brayu of a couple.
Starting point is 00:18:03 Remember a couple years ago we were worried about Brian and Brayu's arm falling off? Yeah. He's that guy this year. Speaking of a Brayu, who got the win last night. Doesn't deserve it, but he got it. But then Hater came in and just was just filthy.
Starting point is 00:18:14 He's filthy, man. He's awesome. They're just a 500 team. They're just 500 team. All right, we owe you a little bit of what Jim Crane had to say. We'll get that for you in about to 20 minutes. We have the sound at 630 coming up here next. But they're in first place.
Starting point is 00:18:29 Again. And by the way, Joe Spada is the manager for the rest of the season. Jim Crane confirmed. Jim Crane confirmed that. I mean, Bob Nightingale didn't dispute that, really. He just said that his future is not determined, which is what Bob Nightgale said. Well, the rub was that Bob Nightingale said he was told he was not coming back and that it was his choice whether to finish out the year. Again, if I'm in that situation, I'd have said deuses.
Starting point is 00:18:58 Yeah, but Joe Spada, he loves his guys. He's a players manager through and I think he loves being a managing manager. Absolutely. He wants to, because again, if you win the division, as crap is he's a guy. it may be, you're still a division winning manager. And you're going to the playoffs, which you never know what's going to happen. The Sounds at 630 are next here on the Matt and Ross in the morning show 713-2-5-790. Well, that sounds very inviting.
Starting point is 00:19:22 Well, it all sounds exciting. That sounds like a threat. That sounds stupid. And now Matt and Ross bring you sounds at 630. 632 is the 730. sounds at 6.30 every day at this time or give a bit take. We will find interesting things in the world. Normally
Starting point is 00:19:58 while we're sleeping, because the game was over last night, I went right to bed. I did the exact same thing. Final out caught into the glove. Boom. No post game. Love you, Kevin Ashenfelter. Love you 10th inning. I usually generally when I watch the games on TV, I still till Joe Spada speaks, but I didn't
Starting point is 00:20:14 make it. So whatever Joe said, I'm wishing them the best, but I turned off the TV. We did find somebody that had some postgame commentary on the game. Did we now? Sports Harvey? Yes, did. So a friend of the show, I think we'll call him that. You've gotten him tickets to games and stuff like that. He's called in a couple of times. And Yankee
Starting point is 00:20:30 superfan, Nick Totoro, not so happy with his local 9. Doesn't matter. Whenever they play the Astros, even a 500 Astro team, even a B. B.Astro team, still finds a way to stick it to the Yankees. I don't know what it is about that
Starting point is 00:20:50 team. They just seem to have, they just Own our souls. I don't know what it is. We've never really have gotten the demons of that and these aren't even the great astros or the cheating astros.
Starting point is 00:21:06 This is a mediocre astro team and we still lose. He had to end with that part. Oh, Nick Titoro. He lives with the ups and downs of all 162. You got to give him credit. You know, it's funny because he could never do a radio show
Starting point is 00:21:25 because he, I don't think he can clean it up. When he's mad, it's just like saying and the. It's just, he just can't control him. The profanity pours out of him. Yes, it does. And it makes me happen. Didn't it warm you up inside? When he's all mad about the Astros beating up on the Yankees,
Starting point is 00:21:42 it just feels like the good old days. Well, it's like he's like the good Astros beat us. Yeah. The cheating Astros. And now we get the mediocre Astros. They are the mediocre Astros. They just are. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:53 I mean, how in the hell did the Astros score? nine runs yesterday. I mean, Yanir Diaz, who was in single digits of home runs, hits two yesterday. Yeah. He put like 40 points up on his OPS in one game. He's up over 7. He's, like, closing in on what Christian Walker is for the season.
Starting point is 00:22:10 What Christian Walker is 740, he's 712. So we've got a way to go. You are the sat geek of the two of us. Does that make OPS not seem so sincere? No, I don't think so. Okay. I just want to make sure. I just think you can get hot for, I mean, a couple of weeks and stuff like that. Also, it's a smaller sample size. He's only played 71 games this year.
Starting point is 00:22:25 But I'll say this. I mean, Breggman had one awesome week and his OPS with the Cubs just skyrocketed. Yeah, but it was an insane week. I mean, he was how, he hit like three home runs in one game at one point, right? Yeah. So yeah, it all adds up. But also, Janard Diaz has only played 71 games this year. So your feels, so you can gain, it's very, just imagine we're in like June or something like that. It's easy to gain 40 points on, on an OPS.
Starting point is 00:22:49 And by the way, he doesn't have a big sample signs. Shout out to those of you that are Christian Vasquez truthers. The Astros won a game with Yan Yard. Diaz behind the dish. Yes. Yes. The Christian Vasquez Truthers are. That's every backup catcher. You're right. Because Gianna Diaz had truthers when
Starting point is 00:23:05 Maldi was playing. Don't get me started on the Astero Clipper. Tony Usabio. Woo! All right. The sounds at 630 continue with homage to our friend Dolly Part, may she rest in peace. She was a category a few years ago. Can we answer these? I haven't seen them. It's a minute long
Starting point is 00:23:21 in there. It's a question. It was edited down. But the Jeopardy, the Jeopardy IG account put this together. So just listen and see if you can get Alex, God rest his soul as well. He'll read the question, see if you can get the answer right away. Here comes a little Jeopardy for in tribute of Dolly Parton.
Starting point is 00:23:39 Pardon. Hello, Dolly Parton for 400. Dolly, who played this singer's godmother on Hannah Montana, is her godmother in real life. Scarlett. Who's Miley Cyrus? Correct. Dolly Parton 800. Dolly wrote this song, later a hit for Whitney Houston,
Starting point is 00:23:54 about her former singing. partner Porter Wagner. Scarlett. What is, I will always love you? You are right again. Dolly Parton, 1200. With Pentatonic, Dolly recorded an a cappella version of this song in which she begs, please don't take my man. Scarlett. What is Jolene? Jolene. Dolly Parton 600? This city that's home to Dollywood hosts an annual parade in Dolly's honor. Scarlett. What is Pigeon Forge? Tennessee, yeah. Dolly Parton 2000. In 2016,
Starting point is 00:24:23 Dolly created my people fund and hosted a telethon to help her fellow Tennesseans affected by these. Scarlett. What are fires? Fires is right. I guess the fact that you're from Tennessee helped a lot with that category. Who the hell knows that Dollywood is in Pigeon Forge. I would not have gotten that one. And I didn't get the fires even.
Starting point is 00:24:44 I thought it was floods. I mean, yeah, you go with some sort of a natural disaster. Exactly. Well, yeah, there we go. Okay, so... Rest in peace. Dolly Parton. Here are some candidates for...
Starting point is 00:24:58 I'm just going to write all those down. I mean, it had to help. It's a believer in a day. I didn't know she was Miley Cyrus's godmother. But they said Hanamantana, obviously, that's how I guessed it. That's how we know it. I did see this. By way, you know Jonathan, I love me some Miley Cyrus.
Starting point is 00:25:12 I mean, love her. A little bit too much. That's probably accurate. Go ahead. She's a good performance. She's a good scene. Her covers of Like Her Prayer and 50 Ways is some of the best covers I've ever heard of anybody
Starting point is 00:25:25 singing a song before. Okay. Okay, but that was the reason why I brought up. Dolly had no children. Correct. So I believe Dolly is going to Will Miley her publishing rights of her songs. I think. I saw that. Good money.
Starting point is 00:25:40 Oh, that's not good money. That's incredible money. Especially, you know, I mean, I'm just going to say, I mean, once you die, there's a big pop in your... Oh, are you kidding? Just dreams. Yeah. Only song of Dolly's among her hits. I'm not a huge fan of the song Jolene.
Starting point is 00:25:55 It's fine. It's not. What? A 9 to 5 is a jam. Jolene's fine. I like it. Audience, I'm so sorry. We've already discussed this before.
Starting point is 00:26:02 I like Jolene, but it's not going to call it. I have never put, I don't know if I've spun Jolene once on my Spotify. Okay, we'll get spun on Iheart radio here. Oh, yeah, you're bringing us back with Jolene. Okay. My favor is real quick. Love 9 to 5. I will always love you.
Starting point is 00:26:17 Her version. I mean, obviously, Whitney's is better, but it's still, dollies is awesome, too. islands in the stream maybe that was that's one of the great we did do we did duets uh i won that one and um uh here you come again is an absolute jam i don't know that one here you you do here you come again yeah what's that about uh about missing somebody and bringing them back i guess oh okay what did you think of me about i figured exactly what you said well you play here you come again coming back on the break well we'll get you want to get you want to get you
Starting point is 00:26:51 Joelina. I know. We'll get Jolene. I promise. Oh, okay. No worry. I'm going to get my spin. Yeah. Get Jolie. You'll let you have Jolene in the 7 o'clock. I'm more audience there anyway. 6 o'clock maniacs. You want to hear you come again and we're going to help you out. 713-212-5-790. 7-1-3-2-1-7-90. Again, the Astros win. We've got Jim Crane's comments. I want to get back. Do that in the next segment of the show.
Starting point is 00:27:14 Also, real quick, we've talked the last couple of days about the SEC coming out and writing that little note a couple days ago. We don't want pro players in our league. They didn't do anything about it. We can't do anything about it. Then the Big Ten said, not only do we not want you in there, we're not going to let you in. The ACC has acquiesced and said, okay, you're out. ACC and Big 12 are supposed to in the next 24 hours or so say the exact same thing.
Starting point is 00:27:38 Cody Campbell's not going to be happy. Lane Kevin's not particularly happy. No, he's not. Lane Kevin is basically saying, I need to do this because these kids deserve an opportunity, quote, unquote. We have his comments. And we'll play them. this morning. Okay. And, um, yeah, I mean, I feel bad for the five and five kids, and we'll explain what that is. Yes. This past year's kids really got screwed because of the
Starting point is 00:28:03 timing of the announcement. I actually see the other side of this one because of that. Correct. The timing was, and we will get to that. But it's funny because my daughter, now Division one athlete is a five and five. Oh, okay. So now you're all on board. No, I don't have an opinion. Okay. I really don't have an opinion. But if those I don't know, five and five means you now get to play college sports if you want to for five years. Yeah. Now most pro- Is Jonathan going back? You got some eligibility?
Starting point is 00:28:27 How's the hamstrings feeling? Hey, my knees are like 50. Have you checked your 40 time lately? I haven't even sprinted. What was your fastest? Nobody does sprinters don't do 40 times? What are they? They thumbed their nose at 40 times, right? Jonathan? Yeah, we don't do it. Yeah. Yeah, like that's for losers. So what was your fastest hundred time? 10-6? Okay, we didn't, let's do this. The next month or so. Let's take
Starting point is 00:28:49 you out there do a video and see where you are. All right. Give me like a week talking. A week. He's going to pull something. Leave him alone. He just said his knees are 50. All right.
Starting point is 00:28:58 You know, we'll take your time. You can come back and do it whenever you want. We're going to talk to Paige and the rest of you. It's 713-212-5-790. 7-13-212-5-790. Jim Crane will paraphrase some things he said as it's Matt and Ross in the morning here on Sports Talk 790. To get myself together, you walks right in the door, just like you've done before. And rap my heart round your little finger.
Starting point is 00:29:44 Uh-oh, he's biting his left, Jonathan. I love this song. He's so bad at it too, man. Mm-hmm. I mean, it doesn't shock me that you love this song. This is one of her biggest hits. It's uplifting. The Astros played this for their game last night.
Starting point is 00:30:06 I don't know that's pretty sad. She's helpless to love someone that she doesn't want to love. Well, you don't want to love the American League Wars. Well, how's this uplifting? I'm uplifted by it. Are you? Yeah. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:30:18 I feel better now. A woman getting emotionally abused that's uplifting you? This is a song. All right, I'm going to put it. I think I've decided I'm going to put a tweet out. I'm not going to do a poll question. I want to see what people think, who is the nicest person left alive right now. It's hit number three in 1977.
Starting point is 00:30:39 Is that country charts or is that on the pop charts? Why would I give you the country charts? Pop charts. I don't know. Just saying. There you go. Yeah, I'm sorry. And you're going to play Jolene at what, 720 or so.
Starting point is 00:30:52 It's okay. It's not great. They only hit number 60. So if you're going by the pop charts. But although it was a number one country hit, though. But it's for the people. It was a number one country hit. I got you.
Starting point is 00:31:04 Let's hear you come again. All right. 649. It's Matt and Ross in the morning on Sports Talks. And we have a shut your bum ass up. I didn't nobody got time of that. We were supposed to have Dana Brown today at 930, but that's not going. We can't get him on?
Starting point is 00:31:14 Let's call him. He's probably a new phone who is. Let's see if we can pick up. I don't think so. Well, we're moving on the morning show. We're supposed to get the big general manager interview on every week and then this happens. We could actually plead ignorance. No, no.
Starting point is 00:31:29 See? You want to do that. You want to call him? Well, it's going to call ignorance on that. Hey, are you ready for your hit? What do you mean? I think he's picking up. Okay, so there were a bunch of questions.
Starting point is 00:31:39 Maybe he'll drop a disc track on him on Jim Crane. Here's Jim. What led the decision to part with Dana Brown and why he was Monday the day? He says there's no good time for any of that when you let someone go. I think just out of respect for Dana, we thought it would be time to give him a little space and regroup. There's my little fib. If they go five and one like they were supposed to on this homestand, Dana Brown's still the general manager of this team.
Starting point is 00:32:03 This was, and I do respect Jim a lot. I think Jim was not telling the truth. I agree because, I mean, he was also asked directly somewhere in that transcript was the bad week and the reason. He said, no, this was something that's been in the works before. I believe he said that. So I saw that and I was like, I don't know if I believe that. You shouldn't believe it. I don't think I believe that either.
Starting point is 00:32:25 I'm with you. I just don't. Time table on finding a replacement for Dana will take our time. We've got a little more time, i.e. lockout. Yeah, we'll see you in 2029. It'll probably stretch into who knows. There's not a lot you can do right now. Everyone is playing, but we'll look at it at the end of the season.
Starting point is 00:32:40 We've got plenty of time to do that. Yeah. What's the biggest reason you think the last two years haven't gone the way they usually have in Houston? Good question. You guys are watching the box scores just like I am. We're watching more than the box scores. Yeah, we're watching the games. They're not very good.
Starting point is 00:32:59 Still have a chance to win the division, get the team on track. There are a lot of injuries in the pitching. we got off to a slow start, this hurt us. I think you can all look at that. We're not where we want to be, but we have a good chance to win the division. Okay, he's got, his glasses still remains half full as it should be, because again, first place is first place. Was there any consideration of making a move on Dana either before the draft or before
Starting point is 00:33:19 the trade deadline? It's not really, I think once all of that was done, we just took a hard look at it. Yeah, the heavy lifting was done. If you were going to really do this, you could have waited at the end of the year. all he's doing is just picking up Vasquez and God knows who bringing up Ethan Pecco. I mean and I guess what Jim is saying is
Starting point is 00:33:41 I can have my assistant GM to do that. Yeah and I guess they are and Jeff Bagwell getting involved in that I guess. Is Jeff Bagwell a candidate to become the full-time GM? Answer. We don't have any candidates at this point. We haven't even started looking. That's not a no!
Starting point is 00:33:59 That is not a no! Stay with me. Jeff's in the same role he's always been. He's a senior advisor and he works with the assistant general managers and myself an assist when necessary. That is not a no. That's a little alarming.
Starting point is 00:34:18 I'm going to stand by what I said. No chance. No way. No how. Okay. I hope you're right. Now. Yes. Could Jeff Bagwell's bestie be involved in this? Who, Brad Ausmiss? Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:34:33 I don't know much about Brad Austin's baseball philosophies. No, he's a longtime major league player, long-time manager, been a bench coach. He's always discussed over the years. He's a darkness guy, right? Yeah, smart guy. Yeah. Okay. I guess I wanted an Ivy League nerd. All right.
Starting point is 00:34:52 Last question. Your last three general manager hires have never been ahead of baseball operations before. Would you look for someone more experience in that area, and how do you view experience as you vet candidates. First sentence. Experience is valuable, but not necessary. We've had a pretty good run with the guys we've had one way or the other. All that is measured.
Starting point is 00:35:16 Experience is business. Experience is baseball always helps. You've got a lot of that with your manager and your coaches and your GMs. I think that's a bundle type talent that you're talking about. A lot of times we've had a lot of injuries or I think we'd be in a better space. Everyone has injuries. You just can't count on everything all the time. We will work hard to.
Starting point is 00:35:33 get back on the run and this year is still alive. We are very focused on trying to win the division. Okay. This, I don't even know what to make of all of this. I do. I think it's wide open. I don't, I don't take any more of Jeff Bagwell's more of consideration. I will say this. Jeff Bagwell was in New York yesterday. Jeff Bagwell, it was mentioned in this quote. Jeff Bagwell's beloved. Brian Alasman says their next GM. what it feels like? No, but he'll be interviewed. I just want a whole
Starting point is 00:36:16 gang of analytics nerds from whomever. Well, Brad's a nerd in some respects. No, he's not. He's a baseball guy. I mean, he went to Dartmouth, but I don't know his baseball and philosophies and how analytics driven he is, but I'm going to imagine there's a lot of old school in him. I cannot give you an answer to that. Me either.
Starting point is 00:36:33 But I'm just guessing. Just because, I mean, he played in the 90s. He's good friends with Jeff Bagwell. Jeff Bagwell clearly is still going to have a lot of say in this organization. as Jim Crane just said, even getting asked directly if Jeff Bagwell was a candidate, and you didn't give a yes, but he didn't give a no. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:36:57 Which doesn't necessarily mean. I guess what I will say is I wasn't looking for him to say Jeff's not a candidate. So if you were looking for that, you're not getting the answer you want. Just because he gives the non-answer doesn't mean that Jeff is a strong candidate. I agree with that. I don't believe there will be a philosophical change in how they spend their money.
Starting point is 00:37:21 Because frankly, more teams are doing it like the Astros are doing it than they're doing it other than sending out these eight or nine year deals. He does mention that. He mentions that there are a lot of teams doing better than them. They're not spending money. I think if anything, Jim Crane's not opposed to dial it down a little bit
Starting point is 00:37:38 with the money spending. Yeah. And you know what? And I'm okay with that, Ross, if your minor link system is a place where you can go to get your folks to play. The Astros have not been able to use a minor... I mean, Bryce Matthews, called up. Hadn't done much. Who else in the Minal Lake system? Joey Loporffito, brought up, hasn't done much.
Starting point is 00:37:57 Mike Rose. Ethan Pecco. Ethan Pecco. So far, two appearances? Two sub-perform. Two doesn't deserve to be a long-standing member of the rotation guy. Yeah. I'm just kind of look at a lot of stuff does come off the books next year, but you do have arbitration as well.
Starting point is 00:38:15 And you don't know what you're going to have to spend because if there is a floor coming up. Now, the Astros have never been a team that's been cheap, at least under the Jim Crane administration. So I'm not worried about a floor being hit. But, yeah, I don't think the spending habits, again, especially. Jim Crane's now 72 years old. He's been doing this for a long time. Typically, when you get older, you don't go, well, no, let's go on a big spending spree.
Starting point is 00:38:38 You try to save as much money as you can. Yeah. Next year, they go from $203 million in commitments this year to $142 next year, but you still have some big arbitration guys. like Jeremy Pena, Esock Paredes, and Hunter Brown and some others. And you didn't have some conversations about whether those guys are going to be locked up. Yeah. And what do they want to be locked up? 6.57, we are Matt and Ross in the morning here on Sports Talk 790.
Starting point is 00:39:02 We would like you. Thank you 6 o'clock maniacs for being with us. Transition over to 7 o'clockers. Appreciate y'all. 713-212-5-790. 7-1-3-2-5-790. Yes, the Astros 1. We say it rest in peace to Dali Parton.
Starting point is 00:39:17 we have college news, not necessarily a plenty, but more turbulence. But it's funny, Ross, as I think about this, it might be turbulence in college sports right now, but we're not going to care about it on Saturday because we have college football. No. We let everything get all mad and frustrated at how the system is, and then Saturday there's 85,000 people. And we're all watching. I think that's got to be the major American sport that's most like that, right? This system is broken.
Starting point is 00:39:46 this is broken this we can't how can we do this we can't do everything is going to hell oh we're tuned in don't care and i want to you know what i'm going to say this i'm going to say this for a seven o'clock hour i don't even know if the average fan is pissed off about the way college sports is run this is matt and ross in the morning believe it matt ross in the morning man should jump or mess up matt ross in the morning Ain't never got time for that. Matt Roles in the morning. Believe it. Sports are seven minutes in the morning.
Starting point is 00:40:29 Javier and Laredo coming through. Shout out Javier. If any of you all have any singing acumen, I mean, at least as good as me. You are a 14-time letter winner. I'm a major letter winner. Yes, in high school back of the day. These are choir a legend, Jonathan.
Starting point is 00:40:47 I don't know if you knew that in the state of Texas. They're going to retire my tonsils at Main Creek eventually. Yeah, I believe they named the state choir competition after him. They did. That's right. They did. Yeah, they did. So if you ever want to sing us some jingles, we'll take them.
Starting point is 00:40:58 That's a full-throat Thomas competition, I believe. I don't think they call it. No, they support him to the award. No, it's full-throat. Okay. It is Matt and Ross in the morning. Thanks a good to Javier for singing that. We will have jingles.
Starting point is 00:41:09 We'd like to have these little sounds. We had AI come through for us. Yes, we did. Yeah. So if you are a singer and want to strum something together, If you just wanted to sing the vocals, we'll put some music behind it. Send it to us an email. Sure, why not?
Starting point is 00:41:23 M.T. at Sports790.com. So it's a mat. Yeah, and we'll figure it out from there. Or John them. We'll do a gong show on and see if it's good enough or not to close. Oh, that's rude. That's not. That means it's going to hit.
Starting point is 00:41:34 We'll try. People take the time out to contribute to the show. You send us any song, like it says, Matt and Ross in the morning, you're getting on. She won't play it again. You won't play it again, you'll know. That's true. Either a rush it or flush it. All right, your beloved Astros are back in first place in their rightful spot sports RV because they defeated... Rightful spot.
Starting point is 00:41:56 Yeah. There's 500, Matt. Yeah. There's nothing rightful about being a 500 ball team in first place. I look at the standings and there's only one team at top of the America League West, just a single team. And it's a whole pile of mid and you're the mid and 66 and 66. You're the best of the mid. They're not a good baseball team.
Starting point is 00:42:16 Nice win last night. Nice win. Jose Al-Tube's Ops. now to 709. We're getting there. Getting to where? I mean, I'll take 725. I would like league average, because he's below league average in the field.
Starting point is 00:42:30 How about Dalton Varsho two hits and two runs yesterday? Yeah. Yon-A-Alvarez a triple yesterday. Mm-hmm. Two home runs from Yarnier Diaz. OPS at South 7-12. Let's go. He's heating up. We'll go with that.
Starting point is 00:42:44 OPS last year, 771. This year, 708 for Jose Altovae. So you want to explain why a team like the Astros is so horrific at home against so bad of an Angels and an Ace team. Yet they go on the road to the second best record in the American League with the probably a top three American League bullpen. I mean, you beat up guys yesterday, Cruz, Dillo Santos, Hendrick. Those guys all have earnings of three and less. Or they did going into game yesterday. And you beat up the Yankees in their venue with a huge.
Starting point is 00:43:19 crowd. It's baseball. Bad teams can be good teams. That's exactly right. And mediocre teams can be good teams too. Yeah. That's why people keep asking, are you giving up on the season? What's your verdict? What's going to happen? I think it's going to go down the last handful of days. Although I did put it on gut feelings. Astros win the American League West by two games. Yeah. So it goes by the last weekend or something, but not further than that. And that's why people are losing their minds over the local baseball team is because you're supposed to feel really good about yourself. You just beat the Mariners 2 out of three.
Starting point is 00:43:54 You beat the Angels 2 out of 3. You swept the A's. When did this happen? I'm saying in your mind. Oh, it's like what? In my own special dreams. I think you're hallucinating at 708 in the morning. That's definitely could be happening too.
Starting point is 00:44:06 I didn't know the shrooms were hitting. And then you go up to New York and, of course, you crap back because the Yankees are a good day's baseball team. They score seven runs and they don't. You're 66 and 66, you just fired a general manager. I'm not feeling great. I'm just not. Ethan Pagro just went out there. It wasn't it been since August 10th or whatever since they've had somebody go six innings?
Starting point is 00:44:27 Yeah. I'm not feeling great. They could sweep this series. Unless you get, I mean, who's pitching a Lambert and then Wesnowski or something like that? I'd have to go look again for the matchups. We should give something away. Wesnski tomorrow. Unless you get seven innings of a shutout ball from both of them,
Starting point is 00:44:45 going to feel super confident. We should give something away the next time the a master is send a pitcher to go six and a third. Next time you get a quality start or are you getting out in the seventh? Yeah. It's got to be, that's six. Even if they've given up like nine runs. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:57 How about the next quality start? That's six giving up three or less. Yeah. What do you want to do? I don't know. You're always trying to make things to abstain from or you can't get your head shaven until you get a quality start. No, that's not going to happen.
Starting point is 00:45:09 I'm seeing my wife tomorrow night. It's not going to do. Oh, really? Oh, yeah. She likes your head shaving? Correct. It's been three weeks. How about to give a $50 gift card out to Big City Wings.
Starting point is 00:45:26 Okay. The next time we get a quality start. To who? Well, how do you enter? How do you enter? You know, when it happens, we'll do something special that day on the show. Okay. So, yeah, we will give away a $50 gift card to Big City Wings the next time the asterisk
Starting point is 00:45:41 start. What if it happens tonight? Then we'll give it away tomorrow show. Okay. Love that. Peter Lambeau, Quality Start. Okay. How about this?
Starting point is 00:45:49 Let's see how a great prognosticator you are. Of the pitchers, who's going to do it? Lambert. He's the favorite, right? Even though he's been shaky. He's been shaky for about four or five weeks now. Yeah. Well, I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:46:03 Go ahead. I guess Hunter Brown's the only other candidate. I would have to go, and my pecking order... Lambert's last quality start with July 22nd. I would go Hunter Brown won. Lambert 2 was Neske 3 and then no chance of anybody else. This is the team you're convincing yourself to win the American League. Did you just hear that?
Starting point is 00:46:22 Buy two games. Oh. Oh. I'm rooting for them. I know. But we got a 132 game sample. They're not a good baseball team. They're just mid.
Starting point is 00:46:35 Even they've been healthy lately and they're just mid. And by the way, what Ross just said, we did not record you saying that two months ago. Okay. That was live here on August of 26. We keep waiting for him to wake up and I'm done. I'm done convincing myself. Oh, yeah, Wesny. You're running a form.
Starting point is 00:46:51 we're going to get Ronel Blanco and Hunter Brown's going to finally turn it around and oh here comes Cam Smith. Yinerdi has a little bit here and there but it's just been too much. It's too much up and down. And it adds up and down adds up to mediocre. It adds up to zero. Do you think Mariner Talk is talking like this today? I think so.
Starting point is 00:47:09 Yes. You think Softie's talking about it. It's probably cracking talk right now. You're getting ready for cracking preseason. Oh, no. They're the world champion Seattle Seahawks. I was joking. How about this? We have two other teams in our division that the after.
Starting point is 00:47:21 are competing with and the other two cities don't care about their baseball team. The Seahawks are trying to defend their Super Bowl championship. Cowboys are locked in on the Cowboys are locked in. The Cowboys could be one in 16 last year and it'd be locked in over the Rangers. That's true. Now look, the Texans might ultimately be in that situation too.
Starting point is 00:47:39 But at this point they're not because we're trying to get past to the Texans. By the way, I went on a radio show in New England. They do a like, you did? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:51 in Providence? In the Portland, Maine. Portland, Maine? Yeah, these guys had me on every year. Okay. It was the lobster roll with like J.T. and David? J.T. and David? It's interesting. What do you call it the lobster roll? The midday lobster roll? It was afternoon drive.
Starting point is 00:48:09 I don't go on a midday's anymore. My bad. I'm only a drive time performer now. It was the clam bake. That's actually a better name. Walking to the clam bake. Not just that we stereotype on this show. No. No.
Starting point is 00:48:23 Imagine Portland Maine trying to stereotype down here in Texas. We've got nothing to stereotype here. They'd probably be going, shoo-wee. You're the first person's done in the morning. I want you to get in your rig. Let's get into some re-blank and chip talk. Jonathan, I'm sorry. K. Sean Booty going to move this team.
Starting point is 00:48:45 You know what? It's my fault. You started it. You know what? I'm putting money in the job. Yeah, you should. It's your fault. That's my bad.
Starting point is 00:48:52 I was pretty good for two and a half days. I was impressed. You even stopped yourself a couple times. I did, I did. All right, so what's the show called? Portland, Maine. It was called the Chowda Talk. What market number is that?
Starting point is 00:49:04 Chowda talk. I don't know. These guys... Hey, Matt Thomas. They've been called me for like a decade. Oh, okay. And I think it's... And they call their fans of Chowderheads?
Starting point is 00:49:14 I think the show... Do we have to come in like a kitchy nickname for our fans? Well, we have the maniacs is six. It's six-clock maniacs, yeah. We have not figured out what you seven o'clockers are calling yourself yet. But I think the show is in... in Portland's a low market that the guy that's host the show
Starting point is 00:49:28 also produces the runs the board because he called me and said I'm put you on hold, hang on a second. It is what it is. Dang. I mean, we'll eventually get there. And you heard him put his broom down. He was checking transmitter
Starting point is 00:49:42 signing readings. This is so inside baseball. It's a rough business. Yeah. 714. So I'm going to I'm going to ask you to guess what 90% of our conversation was
Starting point is 00:49:56 about on the John Chowder talk in Portland, yesterday. Oh, no. Don't tell me you were accustomed and discussing Jalen Reed. You don't know that. You get one guess and one guess only. It is Matt and Ross in the morning at 713-212-5-790. 7-13-212-5-7-90. 7-21. It is Matt and Ross in the morning. We got shut your ballmass up at 8.30. For those of you that are new to the morning show. First of all, good morning to you. Second, we are very happy to be here every morning, six
Starting point is 00:50:30 o'clock until 10. And once a week on Wednesdays primarily. Now it's every Wednesday because we don't have anything day games interfere with any of this. We're going to ask you to call the show and tell people to shut their bumasses up. Can't wait. And anybody got a lot for that. Yeah, you travel. Do you usually
Starting point is 00:50:46 have travel stories? I'm coming after you, Rice Line. Ooh. I got screwed by Rice Line. Ooh, Rice Line got you? Yeah. Mouth Best. We sent my bag to Denver. I got you all too. 8.30. Just an hour from now. All right, a couple of things to pass along.
Starting point is 00:51:04 We were asking, I have a Twitter question up today. Let me phrase it properly here. Who is the nicest? I said, now that Dolly is no longer with us, who is the nicest American, and I put that we all know, still a lot of you. You put your mom on there. I'm sure she's lovely.
Starting point is 00:51:19 Yeah, my mom wins. Actually, I know your mom. You're right. She's on the short list for sure. You know how sweet she is? She's been calling me at 5 a.m. every day this week. to make sure I'm getting up. She's like, oh, just making sure you're getting up, sweetie. She's the best. All right.
Starting point is 00:51:33 Absolute best. On the list so far, Morgan Freeman, John Granato, and Mike Trout. John Granato? Yeah. Okay. I mean, I met him like twice. He's been super nice. I've known John for a long time.
Starting point is 00:51:48 He's fine. I don't know if he's the nicest person I know. Okay. Apparently, our friend ATX Hobel girl says that Reba McIntyre has a persona of being the nicest person, but she has screwed over record labels and producers and people like that. Oh, really? Music industry. I don't know that.
Starting point is 00:52:04 Okay. I could see that. I could see Reba being duplicitous. Like Ellen DeGeneres? Like when she was supposed to be like the nicest one and people hate her. Well, how about this? Rosie O'Donnell, when she did her TV show like 30 years ago, I mean, it was the Rosie O'Donnell show.
Starting point is 00:52:19 She was happy go lucky, fun. Yeah. And then she got political and then half America despises her. The ATX Hobo Girl thing about the record company. was talking about Dolly Parton, I think. She stuck it to the record companies. Oh, okay. I thought it was Reba she was talking about.
Starting point is 00:52:32 Yeah, she stood up for her, like, royalties and stuff like that in terms of Dolly Parton, I believe. And, like, Elvis wanted to sing, I will always love you. And he wanted basically songwriter credit. And she's like, no. Because she wrote it. Yeah. Yeah, I'm not going to let you. But there's a captain.
Starting point is 00:52:48 What the hell is that guy's name? Captain, whatever. Oh, Tom Parker. Yeah, Tom Parker. Basically, to her, like, Elvis is going to do your song. And when he does songs, they become his songs. And she's like, shut up on my head. She's like, shut your bum ass up.
Starting point is 00:52:58 Well, she said, shut your bum ass up. The country tone. Yeah. Shut your bum ass up, please. 9 to 5. By the way, you didn't play Jolene, by the way. Oh, at some point. No, he had it ready to go.
Starting point is 00:53:08 But then you were complaining you wanted that deep cut. What was it? That's not a deep cut. Number three is on a deep cut. You know what? I'm sorry. I said that on purpose to make you upset. It worked.
Starting point is 00:53:20 I want to apologize. I'll write that down for my Friday. Sorry. Yes. Deep cut. Deep cut. By the way, every Thursday on the show, today's Wednesday, every Thursday I will be handling, believe it or not. Really?
Starting point is 00:53:34 Yeah, because, oh, I love this. Starting in two weeks, you'll be doing the Rotten Five, and that takes a lot of work. We put some money behind it. Okay. I will be handling, believe, so I'll start tomorrow. People have been clamoring for the Rotten Five to stay. Yeah, the Rotten Five stays, and I'll be doing Dead or Alive tomorrow. Really?
Starting point is 00:53:47 The first Thursday edition of the Believe or Not, Matt Thomas style. Okay, so I was on, what is the name of the show? I was on, the lobster roll, the midday lunch. I thought it was a clam bake. I was on Clambake. in Portland radio. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:53:59 This is being serious. Ron. I'm sorry. And his first mate? All right. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:54:05 See, when you get sick, you get loopy. I'm on all kinds of different meds. I'm all this. I'm on for like 12 or 13 minutes. I'm thinking, why does Portland Maine care about the Texas? But they're doing a 32 tour. And if you're Portland, Maine, you're looking to kill time. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:19 We're on for three or four hours. I don't know how long a show. Okay. But I was on for 12 or 13. You don't know what the name is, who hosts it, or when it's on. Or the car. Or the call letters. They just call me once a year.
Starting point is 00:54:29 Other than that. I know that there's a 207 area code. I think they had to call me one year because you were busy. I think I pushed it to you. Yeah. So they asked me everything like you would ask. About the Texans. What do you think was the number one question asked five or six times?
Starting point is 00:54:47 Is C.J. Stroud a franchise quarterback. Bingo. That's the big story, National. There is. And it made me think when I got off the phone with him yesterday, there is nothing holding the Texans back from going to the Super Bowl. Like, I, if the defense has a subpar year, Ross, in my mind, not that I'm this football acumen guy, in my mind, the only reason why the Texans defense is not as good as it was last year is simply because of depth and injuries.
Starting point is 00:55:21 Yeah. Catastrophic season-ending injuries is going to. stop. You heard that you were gone last week, but the Raiders came in the town. They got their ass kicked in the practice. They're like, we don't need this. This is not doing us any good. The Raiders got their ass kicks? Yeah. Okay. In the practice. I guarantee you, Bryce Young's won't want no part of Will Anderson coming in him chasing after him. Now, you can't touch the quarterbacks, but you get my drift on this. Uh-huh. Unless, because they're all in their prime, they all work their ass off. Will Anderson,
Starting point is 00:55:50 hell, even Domingo says, I got to have him turn it down a little bit because he's so intense during practice. It's great. It's what you love to hear. The Texans offense can't get better because they're facing a top defense every single day in practice. You got arguably two top five edges in the entire sport. You have a better linebacking corner than you had a year ago or at least in theory, you do. You have a deeper secondary. You've got two, you've got three really good cornerbacks. Offensive lines should be improved. Dave Montgomery's here.
Starting point is 00:56:18 Woody Marks is running with a little juice. Yep. I told you how it would be 6040. And I was like, well, at first I was resistant to that. But when I kind of thought about how he was hurt every single week, he looks like he looks healthier this year. Yeah. I'll just put it that way. So that's what everybody is saying.
Starting point is 00:56:38 That whether you're in Portland, Oregon or Portland, Maine, if you're an NFL fan, the Texans storyline is written. Just be better on offense. Just don't screw it up. because injuries are a storyline with every NFL team. Every NFL team, if you're going to win games and be successful, you have to stay healthy. That goes without saying no matter if you're good or bad.
Starting point is 00:57:00 That's an obvious one. But it was like, I was like, yeah, you know, the Texas defense doesn't give up a whole lot of yards, and they've gotten better, and they got reblankenship, and Daniel Hunter is still here, and they've gotten, you know, Aziz Shahiris Bing and Tommy Toggiye. They're like, yeah, man, that's great. But CJ Stroud really sucked last year. I said, yeah, he sucked last year.
Starting point is 00:57:20 Mm-hmm. And you went 12 and 5. You went 12 and 5. And if you've ever, ever dreamt of the Texans playing on Super Sunday, there's one-man responsible for it. And CJ. C.J. Stroud, just don't throw the ball away seven times in two games. Just be an average offensive line.
Starting point is 00:57:42 Just be fine. Yeah. That's what you're asking for. You didn't get much of a running game last year, honestly. No, you got nothing. So if David Montgomery gives you 20% of more, what you got. got last year, that means you got a much, much better running game. You're laying out why I'm bullish on the Texans.
Starting point is 00:57:55 Battle Red Ross is ready to go. AFC South champs. And then we'll see from there. I do think now Jaden Higgins going down does matter. Does Kishong Booty just step in right away immediately or is he just another guy? I mean, it's up to me. I mean, he had what, like five, between like 550-yard-ish yards, five, six touchdowns last year. That's good.
Starting point is 00:58:15 But you're going to need Enoch Collins to be out there and be healthy. Dalton Shultz is going to have to continue to be who he is. Tank Dell, of course, we'll see. I know you guys got a bet. Either way, it's a we'll see. We don't know. The reason y'all have a bet is because nobody can predict what's going to happen. Right. And he hasn't done much. No. That's the reason why the bed's in play. I really don't expect him to be available week one.
Starting point is 00:58:36 All right. 713-212-5-790. It's Matt and Ross in the morning on Sports Talk 790. So the national narrative is said. There's nobody worried about David. Montgomery. There's somebody really worried about who the number two receiver is. There's nobody really worried about the defense. Your team, if you think that C.J. Stroud is carrying the way of the world on his shoulders. I mean, every NFL team has that. That goes on the thing.
Starting point is 00:59:01 But it especially feels strong here in Houston. Because as great as this defense is, and it's going to be again, you don't go to the Super Bowl unless C.J. is better today and better in January than he was in last January. easiest way to do that is help him out with a run game and an offensive line. And Nick Casario tried to address that. We'll see how well he did. And if you can go 6535 on your runs past splits, D'emico would love that.
Starting point is 00:59:31 D'emico would love to run on first down. He wants to get up 3-0 with a Kearney Fairbair and kicking a 60-yarder and then just hold on for Deer Life and win the game. 713-212-5-790. Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolese, don't take my man. Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, because you care. Jolene, I don't think I like Jolene. Poor Dolly is asking for her to stay away from her man.
Starting point is 01:00:13 She's like, I don't give it, damn. Jolene's got to be pretty hot, right? She can just do it if she wants? I don't know. Chinnam, this is not what I would have thought in your would have been in your Dali wheelhouse. What? Do you hear this guitar in here, too? This riffs?
Starting point is 01:00:27 Come on, dude. That's good. Yeah, I like this better than that other clap trap you were playing. What was that? You come again? Oh, yeah. He's got passionate emotion. It was okay.
Starting point is 01:00:39 Yeah, exactly. She put a soul on this one. Jolene must have been running amuck. You're a slut. What was that? Do you think Jolene was a horror? She got a song written about her, though. All she's doing is pleading to stay away from her man.
Starting point is 01:01:00 I know. Poor Dolly. Can't... Jolene's... Hmm. All right, man. Go back to the heat. Get out of the kitchen. We're going back to sports. She can't stand Joeene's heat. I know. All right. So, let's... A question is now that Dolly's no longer with us. Who is the Nice America? We all know is still alive.
Starting point is 01:01:14 Morgan Freeman? That's not bad. Shaquille O'Neill? I don't like Shaquille. Cano Reeves? See? People love Keanu. Let's take a look. Yeah, I don't think... I think Burr-Hav anointe is listening to you.
Starting point is 01:01:30 Paul Rudd has to be up there. Paul Rudd? People love Paul Rudd, absolutely. But, I mean, liking them in, like... I think Paul Rudd is universally loved. I guess, yeah, I guess. Mike Trout. Mike Trout.
Starting point is 01:01:45 I don't know if Angels fans like him. Artie Morano's probably not the biggest fan. I've been paying all this. You get hurt all the time. All right. If you'd like to be a part of the show today, 713212-5-790, 7-7-1-3-212. 5-7-90.
Starting point is 01:02:02 So as part of Jim Crane visiting in New York, by the way, what does that like? Jim and Jeff went up there. Who else is up there in New York? No, what are you? Oh, no. Who else is up there in New York? Former Astros catcher.
Starting point is 01:02:19 Bench coach. Very handsome. Dartmouth grad. Joe Torrey? No. Good friends. Oh, no. With El Hefe Bagwell? Oh, no. You're not trying to put two and two together, are you?
Starting point is 01:02:33 I'm just saying. I'm not saying, I'm just saying. You know what I'm saying? Sadly, I do. Okay. So is it going to be Brad Osmus? Because I don't think that Jeff doesn't much traveling. Doesn't seem like it.
Starting point is 01:02:51 Maybe I mean New York's a good trip. You're going to be there for six days. Yeah, it's a good one. It's not going to be cheap. It's not going to be cheap either. I'm going to not allow you to exercise the Oh, Jeff and Brad just ran into each other Okay
Starting point is 01:03:07 I'm gonna choose it Jeff Bagwell being Kansas City, I don't know I'm gonna be naive to that a little bit here What if the trip just happened to me? Okay, I'm not saying, just saying, reading the tea leaves So what it sounded like happened yesterday Was that Jim Crane went to go talk to Joe, door shut Then Jeff went in there
Starting point is 01:03:24 Is that how you're reading it to? Jeff went to talk to Joe too I think so is what if I read Chandler's article I wasn't in the car I went in the room okay I didn't have a I didn't have a voice recording it for me by the way Chandler Rome's recent article did talk about how Brad Ausmus was second choice
Starting point is 01:03:42 after Dana Brown and do you think Chandler was mentioning that on accident no okay but are you besmirching Brad because of the Jeff Bagwell relationship? Maybe maybe I need to give Brad
Starting point is 01:04:00 Osmus a fair shot. He's got no front office experience that I know of, right? Yes, a little bit. With the Tigers or something? I was going to say the pod rates I want to say. Oh, is the pods? I think you may be right.
Starting point is 01:04:13 Somebody out West, I want to say. Okay. But, yeah, most of his work has been as a manager or as a bench coach. He was with the A's as a coach. Benj's been with the Yankees for a while. Yeah, he's been with the Yankees as their bench coach since 2024,
Starting point is 01:04:34 a special assistant to Angels general manager, Billy Epler. Okay, I knew it was a West Coast team. And then he was named the manager. Replacing Mike Schott, Asosha. Yeah, not successful as a manager. He was dismissed after one year of the manager. In Angels or to Tigers, for that matter. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 01:04:53 So he was briefly the special assistant to GM, Billy Epler. Which kind of bucks to train because a lot of catchers are very good managers. A.J. Hinch. Mike Sosha. Oh, you're right. Padres Field Executive in 2011 and 2013. So he's, I mean, he's put the work in. He's put in some work. Okay. Whatever. Just go win.
Starting point is 01:05:12 Well, here's the reality. There's probably going to be 10 or 15 names that we're going to hear. We have no idea what they are. They could be analytics nerds. They could be scouting directors. They could be assistant GMs. Did we know who Dana Brown was before he got the job? No.
Starting point is 01:05:28 No. So the reason why Brad Auspice's name is going to trick. is because of A, the relationship between him and Jeff, and B, that he's a former Astro and a longtime Major League Baseball player and manager. I mean, we knew who Alex Anthopoulos was and he was one of his top lieutenants, so that seemed good. Yeah. And he ran good drafts, apparently. We'll see what the drafts recently.
Starting point is 01:05:47 The last couple drafts could be good for the Astros and Dana Brown. We'll see. Yeah. Like I said, whenever the announcement is made, there's nobody, I mean, I told you all on Monday or when it happened that I would like A.J. Hinch to do it. And that was a pipe dream. And I get that. I understand that.
Starting point is 01:06:04 But that was just me just spouting. Yeah. And maybe, I mean, look, we know Joe Espott is in all likelihood going to be out. So Brad Osmus could also be a candidate for the manager, John. He could be, for sure. I mean, he's been on the bench with the Yankees the last couple of years. So he's obviously putting a uniform on. He's managed with Detroit, managed with the Angels as well.
Starting point is 01:06:19 Yeah. So to Joe, what do you think those conversations are like? Don't listen. I mean, don't listen to the rumors. You know what we've talked about before. Joe's been under a lot of duress since he became manager. So at least this is kind of old hat for him. There's been a lot of people calling for his job, but that's every manager.
Starting point is 01:06:40 He's dealt with a lot of pressure, a lot of injuries, a lot of losing records. Because if the boom Nightgale story was wrong, apparently, if it was, that's a quick phone call. How does he just completely make that up, though? Does Biden Nightingale completely invent that, or was there some truth to it that he shouldn't have ran with? You can misunderstand something. but if you're a good reporter, you want to double check everything. This is why we can't trust Bob Nightingale. He doesn't have a reporter.
Starting point is 01:07:06 He does make stuff up. Yeah. This seems completely off base. And he had Chandler Rome and others, like, just flat out refuting that report. Now, I will say this, Ken Rosenthal on his podcast refuted as well, but he also referred to Chandler. So it could be a little bit of, I got my guys back and, you know. Yeah, those are athletic guys and broken stories together. Yeah, for sure.
Starting point is 01:07:29 That's going to happen. I mean, if you came to me and said, I got a story I want to break, I'm going to back you up. Thank you, Matt. I appreciate it. Not that would ever happen, but I'm saying if it ever did, I would back you up. I'm not working sources. That sounds exhausting. It's not worth it.
Starting point is 01:07:42 Yeah. Because if you get it right, then it's like, oh, you got somebody inside giving you information. If you get it wrong, then you're a tool. Mm-hmm. So lose-lose is what you're saying. I'm saying that if you're a young man, once again, a media, or a woman for that matter, first of all, A, don't do it. And B, don't do it as a reporter.
Starting point is 01:07:59 What is the safest job in media? Behind the scenes? Oh, you want to be in media? Yeah. Play-by-play you could find somewhere. No, there's how many jobs are there? There's not many. What do you mean?
Starting point is 01:08:14 There's like 110, 130 college jobs. Okay, there's like more than that, actually. There's like 300. And you've got women's teams. You got about 1,000 jobs available. Yeah, see? But I'm not going anywhere anymore. There's probably a thousand people in class for broadcasting just in this city.
Starting point is 01:08:28 That's true. Yeah, we are the Harvard of Southeast Texas when it comes at broadcasting. I'll talk about Sam Houston State Bearcats. 713-212-5-790. It's Matt and Ross in the morning here on Sports Talk, 7-90. If you'd like to join us, we'd love to have you. 7-1-3-212-5-7-90. Coming up at 8.30, less than 45 minutes from now,
Starting point is 01:08:47 you will be calling in with shut your bum-asses up. And ain't nobody got time for that for the week. We have at 9.50 today, believe it or not, all things about Dolly Parton. And I think all of us kind of felt the same exact way about how we heard it. We were profoundly sad. More than we should have been.
Starting point is 01:09:04 More sad than I expected. Yeah. 7.45. we're Madden Ross in the morning. 750 on Sports Talk 790. We've got the college landscape is continuing to shift with eligibility. And we'll discuss more of that coming up in the top of the 8 o'clock hour. Plus, you're going to hear the Astros working 9 to 5 in New York City.
Starting point is 01:09:24 Right? I mean, it was a night game. Yeah, but they were thinking about the game. They were mentally preparing for the big matchup. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Yeah, they woke up the morning, had some eggs and set up, what we're going to do to beat up this Yankee catching staff? They got a cup of ambition in 1-9-7.
Starting point is 01:09:43 That was a stretch, but it wasn't a terrible stretch. You didn't hurt yourself on that one, so I'll accept that. Okay. 7-13-212-5-7-90 is how you reach our radio show today. If you went on getting in and say hello, 7-13-212-5-7-90. We have shut your bow-ball ass up at 830, and again, all things about Dolly Parton coming up today at 9-7-7-7.
Starting point is 01:10:01 930 with a 950 with the labor or not. My phone screen is not working, so I'll let you hit line number one and say hello to Ryan. Ryan, you're with Matt and Ross in the morning. Good morning to you. Morning, gentlemen. Okay. Brad Ausmus. Yes. No. GM, I want, like you're talking about, I want a nerd. I want super nerdy. And I don't think Brad Osmas is that nerdy. Does you have experience? Sure. but also for the man like just the right man standpoint i haven't been a fan of brad osmases ever since that jake meriznick play at home when he lost his mind all right so nah i'd rather have mark derosa than brad osmiss and if you want to go super nerdy i'll take roe flow as gm and mark derosa's manager i'd be fine with that over brad osmiss and that's just my two sins i'll let you go guys thanks ryan thank you ryan it's not fair to judge brad osmus I mean, here's the only evidence we have.
Starting point is 01:11:00 This is God's honest truth. Not a great manager. The record says what you are. That's the only evidence we have. I don't know if he was a good analyzer with the A's or the Angels or the Padres or wherever else he was. I'm interested in him being a general manager because, yeah, he was a field executive, whatever that means, with the Padres. And then he was an assistant to a general manager with the Angels. And he's been bench coached last three years.
Starting point is 01:11:26 If he was this piping hot GM prospect, it feels like he'd still be working in front office somewhere. But the only person I can answer the question is, Brad. He could say, look, do I want to be in the dugout? I don't want to be in a clubhouse or want to be the rigors of a seven-month job, which it is. Or do you want to be a shirt and tie in the scouting room? So maybe the more I think about this, the more he's more in the dugout, like you're saying. Which there's going to likely be a managerial opening as well. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:11:54 Yeah, 72 and 90 in one year with the Angels. And then overall 314 and 332 with the Tigers. So about a 500 pitcher of Detroit. Or a player, I should say. Yeah, manager. So it fits in perfect. 66 and 66. Let's go, baby.
Starting point is 01:12:12 The perfect fit. Mediocre. We're not going to have this again next year, I don't think. Look, I am still of the opinion that for the most part, the manager just has to be somebody everyone likes. And if everyone likes you and you fill up the line, Fill out the lineup card as best you can with the matchup numbers that you're going to have and provided to you. Go to the bullpen and pockets of matchups that you, which Brad Auspice I'm sure is more than capable of.
Starting point is 01:12:38 It's not that big of a deal to me. It is the least cumbersome of a job among the three major sports jobs. Because you have so many different guys. You have offensive coordinators, defensive coordinators, guys who are setting the infields and outfields and matchups and going and running the numbers and expected this and that and all the pockets of the lineup and versus every. every potential matchup in the bullpen. It's all done for you, pre-game. Well, yeah, I would like for you to go find Brad Mills. I firmly believe that Jeff Leno had a serious role,
Starting point is 01:13:08 if not the entire role, of organizing the everyday lineup. It's true. Oh, not Brad Mills. Bo Porter? Bo Porter, yeah, I was thinking about who it was playing Family Feud. Bo Porter played Family Feud? During spring training, yeah. They would play Family Feud like during the week,
Starting point is 01:13:28 before workouts. fun. I did it once. It was fun. Okay. But it doesn't necessarily gravitate, lead yourself towards a team of building a championship culture. It was poor guy. You know, well, he was fine. Good guy, by the way. Yeah. With a Rick ankle out there and stuff. Yeah, you want to bitch about how much non-fund this year is? Go get you some 2013 asterer lineups. Yeah, I will again go to the card. Who's the best baseball tactician manager-wise in baseball? We don't even know. No.
Starting point is 01:14:00 Dave Roberts wins the World Series every year. Why? Well, Dodgers has got a lot of good players. Well, here's the thing. It's more gut feel. Basketball is not much of a gut-feel sport. Football is, hey, can I take advantage of this team's defense? Or should I try something special?
Starting point is 01:14:15 Or should I, on third and one, should I go for a debunk? That's a gut-feel kind of thing. In baseball, it's, do I let this guy stay out there one more time? Do I... Yeah, but you still have numbers. What's his Velo's looking like? His spin rates are down. His whatever.
Starting point is 01:14:29 like you you don't have to go on gut feeling anymore. Yeah. If you, the mind of a manager in baseball doesn't churn through every pitch. When you're a football coach, you are thinking about plays ahead. You are thinking about what's ahead of you. You're looking at the clock.
Starting point is 01:14:44 You're trying to figure out timeouts. Now, you're not knowing as much situational substitutions because you have your position coach that are doing that. And you also, as you mentioned, have coordinators that are handling each side of the ball. But you are still, if you're the chairman of the board, if you're the head coach, you are intimately involved in every single aspect of every single play,
Starting point is 01:15:02 even as an administrator you are. And in basketball, you're drawn up plays. You just, I guess you could play a pickup game, but the NBA is too refined. High-end college basketball is too refined to not have plays drawn up. To not say, okay, we got four seconds left to go on the show. Don't say that to the post-game callers. The Rockets don't run any plays.
Starting point is 01:15:22 Are you not? Are you watching the same thing I am? Well, that's because everybody thinks they can do it better, including us. We think we can do better than anybody else, doesn't. You know, like a high elbow action with Shingoon and Durant. That's a play. You know that?
Starting point is 01:15:38 Geniuses. Sorry. Well, that is a thing that we as sports fans, it's funny. We will never say, man, I can go out there and hit the ball as hard better than Cam Smith can. Nobody ever calls and says that. No. We call and say, man, if I was managing this team, I'd be bunting more and moving the runners over. and I would tell him to hit it to the left side.
Starting point is 01:15:58 Oh, Bunt guy. Love you, Bunk guy. I mean, that's the thing is that we, if we've played one game of anything, we think we can then coach it. Yeah, I mean, perfect example to me. A.J. Hitch, managing genius here in Houston, winning World Series.
Starting point is 01:16:15 Well, how about, how's it going to Detroit? Yeah. He doesn't have Springer and Correa and Altovae in their primes. Of course, people are so mad he didn't put in Garrett Cole in 2019, on two days rest, by the last. the way. Will Harris. Well, who had been nails all postseason. Yeah. But could have been the
Starting point is 01:16:34 Stephen Okard of being used too much. Okay. Just starting out there. It's the World Series. You go to your best guy, relievers. It's called adrenaline, too. Rather than in a guy off two days' rest who's coming in an unclean inning. For Pete's sake. Now I'm going to put on my Scott Boris
Starting point is 01:16:50 hat. When is Gary goes? Is he tonight or tomorrow? Tomorrow. Is Gary called a mobile calling on the show tomorrow? He could. we'll see how he's feeling okay he might not be feeling so hot maybe a nap after the show hey get a good napping because we're trying we're gonna get garrickone mobile on we gotta do it all right we'll see what we can do all right all right p to dolly we miss her terribly because she was just up and around a few weeks ago just doing her thing and apparently
Starting point is 01:17:16 it's a brief cancer stint that got her at the very last but she's had some medical issues the last couple of years but may she rest and we will honor her on today's edition of believe it or not at 950 we honor her with the a asteros going 9 to 5 in New York, 758. It's Matt and Ross in the morning on Sports Talk 790. This is Matt and Ross in the morning. Yoron looping over to third base with an RBI triple. The Astros late at 7 to 6.
Starting point is 01:17:52 Yordaunt's third hit of the night. It is Matt and Ross in the morning. R-I-P. Dolly Parton. Mace your rest. This is a jam. Yeah, Ward. I don't think this is her most famous song, but it is up there. What is it? I will always love you because
Starting point is 01:18:28 especially the Whitney Houston. Islands in the stream. I don't know. Here you come again. It's got to be up there. Stop. You know what? There's no way you try to put that in there. It's not me. It's America. It's not as big as 9 to 5. I'd never even heard the song. Or Jolene. I'm with Jonathan on that. I think maybe Jolene would probably greatest. How about this? Let's Google this.
Starting point is 01:18:53 Again, this is a sports show. We're going to hear to talk to you at 713-212. But sometimes we have fights on the show. Sorry, we do. Most famous Dolly Parton songs. Here we go. Let's see. Let's see.
Starting point is 01:19:07 I will always love you. Jolene 9 to 5. Code of Menly Colors. I don't know that song. Here's the top streamed on Spotify. Okay. Jolene? Oops, sorry.
Starting point is 01:19:19 Turned us off. Matt's phone, by the way. Sorry, that's my phone. Go ahead. Jolene. Yeah. That's interesting. Islands in the stream. Yep. 9 to 5. Yeah. Tyrant. Is that a song with Beyonce or something?
Starting point is 01:19:35 I will always love you. And then here you come again, live version. It's number six. Okay. So there you go. There was Jesus seven, and then here you come again to guess the regular version. And then I will always love you who's on here like three times for some reason. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:19:53 Different versions. So you go, it was number six on here. On Spotify. And it was number one. I'm not trying to sigh. I'm not trying to sigh. It's not my song. It's not my song. But it's okay. Yeah, that's, apparently. It's your musical opinion. Yeah. That's okay. It's okay. We don't music shame here. Are you kidding me? We daily music shame on this show. I have music shame. I know you do. 713-212-5.7. Good morning.
Starting point is 01:20:20 Good morning. It is Matt and Ross in the morning. Your Astros are in first place in the American League West. By the way, the Texans on the practice field today in Charlotte, North Carolina. Woo! Getting after it, maybe. Will Anderson, DeNooner, coming after Bryce Young. Blow that whistle, baby.
Starting point is 01:20:33 You got to blow that quick. Are you kidding me? You'll be all over them. It is funny that the Las Vegas... Jet York on up. Never mind. Oh, by the way, did you notice that the poor folks at that mobile home park, they're doubling down. Just want to make sure you know.
Starting point is 01:20:49 Yes. did not facilitate this transaction. He just happened to get pulled over in our neighborhood. That's what they're going with. Do you believe it? I guess. Why not? I don't know if the Youngstown mobile home scene does have a lot of prostitution. I don't know. It probably doesn't have a, yeah, I don't have really some East Palestine.
Starting point is 01:21:07 That's true. That's true. All right. So the Astros win. The Rangers lose. The Mariners won. So the Astros are in first place by one half game. Game number two of the series. We'll have it right here on 7-90, beginning with the On-Dick show at 5 o'clock. First pitch, We'll be at 6 o'clock, and the asteros are in New York for an entire week. All right. I ask you this about a half an hour ago, I'll ask it again.
Starting point is 01:21:28 Okay. What do you think, honestly, no BS in here. What do you think the conversation was between the two people? Joe Espada and Jim Crane, and what do you think a conversation was between Jim Crane and Joe Espada and Jeff Bagwell? I don't. Okay, it feels like the Jeff Bagel one's easier. Just like an add-a-boy, go-get. them do what you can.
Starting point is 01:21:51 We've got your back. That kind of stuff. The Jim Crane one is harder for me to figure out because I can't get a handle on how much of this Bob Nightingale story is their truth. Bob Nightingale took it out of his story. Chandler, Roman, others have reported that that story was not true. But also, does that just mean Bob Nightingale completely out of nowhere, out of the blue, invented in his head that there was a conversation.
Starting point is 01:22:19 between Jim Crane and Joe Spada, and Joe was going to get let go and said, I'll still play the season out. So let me give you both sides of the Bob Knight and Guilt. Number one, Bob has made mistakes. Yes. That's irrefutable. That is a huge mistake.
Starting point is 01:22:35 He makes mistakes on the regular, whether typographical or things like contracts or who signs with whom. I mean, he makes, he doesn't misspell a word or forget to put the word done. He makes pretty good ones. Exactly. this is not running with the story saying,
Starting point is 01:22:51 oh, I heard from a source that, you know, whatever, this was a done deal, and then it wasn't a done deal. When you say, this was there's a, exactly, there's a conversation. When you say, Jim, that Joe Espada was told he's done after the year, that it was his choice to manage the rest of the year or leave, that's a, that's a declarative statement. That's an opinion. That's multiple steps of a scenario.
Starting point is 01:23:11 You have to have the scenario that conversation happened. Then you had to have that Joe Espada chose to stay, and then that you have to have that Jim Crane let him stay, And then you run and you type that up and you check with whatever sources you have and then you run with that story. That's a lot of steps to get to something completely 100% made up. That's hard for me to wrap my head around. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 01:23:31 So that's number one. Number two, so if you are on the nightingale side and think, okay, he's going to be ultimately right, it's not far-fetched to think that Joe Espada was at some point told that he's done and that he can. It's not completely far-fetched. I wouldn't do it. If somebody said, Matt, we're letting you go, but you can finish out your rest of year or not, and we're still going to pay it either way. I'd be like, later.
Starting point is 01:24:01 Yeah, it has to be a scenario where Nightingale either made it up or there's truth to it and he was not supposed to run with it. And again, here's another one I always tell you about Ross. People lie. So whoever was talking to Bob Nightingale lied to him. Or Bob Ninigel got him. right and the asteros are like, we did not want this out. Right. So we're going to make sure we do everything we can to lie to everybody to say that this is not true.
Starting point is 01:24:28 This never happened. And to double down on that, Jim jumps on the plane, runs in New York, says it face to face. Right. To make sure there is no if-ends or buts that on a superficial stance on this, the optics say, why would Jim Crane want to have this conversation face-to-face? Oh, by the way, it looks like Jim is talking. talking to his manager as compared to doing on a phone call or text. That's why I can't get my handle on what actually happened.
Starting point is 01:24:54 Because if it is, if it is this was completely made up, then Jim will say, I'm sorry. You know, Bob Nightingale completely made this up. I can't believe. Because Joe knows. If Joe had that conversation, he knows, right? I mean, if it actually happened and it was reported and it was truth and it just should not have been, Joe was in the room. Joe knows the conversation.
Starting point is 01:25:10 Joe could tell us the truth. Right. Joe either knows that conversation happened or he didn't because he was part of it or he wasn't, or it was completely made up. So that's between he and Jim Crane. that's what I can't really think to and I'm going to assume that the reporters that cover the team
Starting point is 01:25:23 who have Joe's number can say is this true? Or I don't even know if he was asked about it but I didn't see anything that said you know is the story true and I guess if he was asked about it they would have said no Joe would have said this is not true I'm in the manager
Starting point is 01:25:38 the rest of the year. I didn't see the post game comments because or the pregame of them from that that's what the story is true so I didn't see that either so with Jim Crane whatever conversation he has with Joe they know what happened between them, whether it did or whether it didn't.
Starting point is 01:25:50 And he's either Jim, so Jim Crane's either saying, sorry this got out, wasn't supposed to, you know, you have my deepest apologies. This was, I didn't mean to besmirch your name or make you look bad or anything like that. But go out there and give him your best. Because, as I said to you a couple days ago, if this indeed is accurate,
Starting point is 01:26:08 that's a clubhouse that, again, wants to win. But they ain't going to do it for rallying for Joe. They know Joe's a long gone guy. He's a, he's, uh, on the following. of his contract. He's a lame duck candidate. They're not going to, they're not going to publicly go out and say, we're going to win this thing for you, Joe, because if they know the decisions already been made, it's a moot conversation. Yeah, the writing had been on the wall to start the season, and now you're 66 and 66. I mean, it's went from like a scribble to its giant
Starting point is 01:26:35 block letters. These guys are gone. I will just say in wrapping this up here, if there's anybody in sports media that I don't trust 100%, it's Bob Nightingale. I agree. Who could misunderstand, who could misconstrude, also get flat out and get it wrong. Honestly, if it's super wrong, which I don't know if we'll ever know the true answer to it, like if he just bungled this from the start, you should lose your job over things like that.
Starting point is 01:27:02 That's what reporters do. If you get stories wrong and you have to retract things constantly, which Bob has to do, you should lose your job. And I don't want to lose her job, but the job of being a reporter is getting it right. I don't need Bob Nightingale's opinion. If Bob Nightingale is a national baseball writer for USA Today, he should get stories right that's all i'm asking he's got 600 000 followers you know he's going back
Starting point is 01:27:24 on the mute list i unmuted him recently but he's back he's back to muted sorry out of the circle of trust bob and as i've said really good dude nice person not great on the radio thus i don't have him on the show he's kind of um how do i put this um monotone okay so you need a little energy when you have guests on the show people are better writers and they are talkers yeah yeah he didn't go to to radio school, he went to journalism school. But you can goof that. And if I was the Astros, which they kind of already done, but I would be like,
Starting point is 01:27:58 man, Bob, if you got this wrong, we're not going to you with anything. Because you're going to goof this up. The question is, do they really goof it up? Or do the Astros try to damage control this? And I guess we never got any kind of word on personal issue that Joe Spott had been going through, missing Sundays? I hope everything, I mean, I hope everything's okay.
Starting point is 01:28:16 Yeah. It's been a weird, weird year. Yeah. But personal stuff happens all the time. Joe's great. If he wants to keep it to himself, which I fully expect, I don't. If you don't ask me, Ben, do you know? No, I don't care. No, I'm not asking.
Starting point is 01:28:28 Yeah, I'm not asking for that. I'm just asking if anyone came out, yeah. 814. It's Matt and Ross in the morning. We got shut your bum ass up coming up in about 15 minutes here. Yes. Some people to shut the bum asses up, don't we? Yes, I do.
Starting point is 01:28:39 If you got somebody that you're really mad at, let's hear it from you, 713. An airline and a travel website. Both y'all. I think I'm done with travel websites, by the way. They had their uses about 10 years ago. Oh, the deals are terrible now. They're not even deals. I literally saved like $4 and I'm like, I'm never doing this again.
Starting point is 01:28:55 Yeah. 713-212-5-790. Matt and Ross. We're in the morning. We thank you for being a part of Sports Talk 7-9. I put a question out on Twitter this morning. And it was now that Dolly's no longer with us. Who is the nice person alive?
Starting point is 01:29:16 And we're presuming that Dolly's a nice When we've said a few times so far on the show Who is the nicest American that we all know still alive? Mm-hmm Here are the candidates. Reba McIntyre. Steven Silas? He was super nice.
Starting point is 01:29:32 He was nice. Sean Chaconne, not particularly nice. Oh, my God. Who put Sean Chacon in there? Death by Sexy. That's how he rolls. Oh, my God. John Granato.
Starting point is 01:29:45 Denzel Washington. That's a good one. Willie Nelson. Willie Nelson. Universally loved. Shaquille O'Neill, Keanu Reeves, Gary Senise, Michael.
Starting point is 01:29:59 Gary Senes? Gary Sanis. That's random. That's what I'm thinking. Keanu Reeves is random. Lieutenant Dan? No, Keanu Reeves is actually universally loved and been talked about a lot recently. What, has he done something really nice?
Starting point is 01:30:12 Yeah. Maybe she's a good person. Yeah. Michael Phelps. J.J. Watt. Mike Trout. J.J. Watt. Don't there people hate J.J. Watt?
Starting point is 01:30:23 Paul Rudd? Paul Rudd's a good one. Francisco Mendoza. What? Yeah, it said Per Ross. Apparently, you brought that up. I did not bring up Francisco Mendoza. Morgan Freeman or, and then also one vote for SpongeBob Squarepants.
Starting point is 01:30:41 As truly the nicest people. Who's Francisco Mendoza? I don't know. Maybe you were confusing him with the Mendoza, maybe? know. What? I don't know. Somebody said on Twitter.
Starting point is 01:30:51 I don't believe it. Are you reading it correctly? Yeah. It says Per Ross. Okay. Now Fernando Mendoza? No, it says Francisco Mendoza. Okay.
Starting point is 01:30:59 That's from Houston Hawkeye. All right. Fernando Mendoza is nice. Seems like a really nice guy. He's going to be good as well, whenever he starts playing eventually, he's going to get his ass kicked. Yeah. Apparently his prayer circle for Ashen Gentie worked.
Starting point is 01:31:11 Oh, yeah. Some not getting a thousand yards. But we'll see. He was only 25 off last year. I know. But he's got a bum ankle, which means he'll slow him down. We'll see. See? Okay.
Starting point is 01:31:20 Very young. So some college news to get to before we get to shut your bum ass up and ain't nobody got time for that. So going back a few days, SEC announced they put out a statement on their Twitter account, which again is the gospel. We do not think this is a good idea for college athletes to come back and be in college once they've been on a pro camp. Now there's a five-for-five rule that is in play that starts this year. but a federal judge said athletes from last year could take part of this five for five as well. Yes.
Starting point is 01:31:56 Now, the five for five rule did not kick in until this summer. If it would have kicked in, say, in September or August, you'd have had a lot of guys that would have said, yeah, I'll come back for one more year, and I will not go test my draft waters, and I will be a professional athlete when it's my turn. But if I get to go play a fifth year, then I can go do this. but because they didn't announce this until June,
Starting point is 01:32:19 a lot of guys like the kid at LSU or the Ole Miss tied in. Yeah, Desquan Wright decided to go to the pros because he didn't know he was going to have this fifth year. He didn't have an option, yeah. But since they didn't announce until after he left, he kind of got screwed.
Starting point is 01:32:31 Well, one of the athletes went after him and said, hey, we got screwed because of the timing of this. Thus, can you give us this extra year? So they said, yeah, so you've had a handful of athletes in all different sports, like softball, WMBA, college football, that are leaving their pro teams after being released and trying to reenter college. And the SEC is like, uh-uh, this ain't going to happen.
Starting point is 01:32:53 We're not going to enforce it, but we're just telling you how we feel. Then a day later, they say, all right, now the Big Ten conference is not allowing the athletes in. We stand firm with our brethren in the SEC. Oh, yeah, Big Ten. Yeah, it wasn't like they had a moral awakening. They're like, oh, Big Ten's doing this. I guess we've got to do it too. So now apparently within the next day or so, the AC. and the Big 12 are going to jump in on this as well and say, once you are a pro, if you're in a training camp or anything pro to you, you're done.
Starting point is 01:33:23 You cannot come back and get a fifth year. Okay. So that's where we are. Two conferences are definitely in. Two more about to happen. And obviously the trickle down, the max, the Mount West, the Sunbelt will do the exact same thing. But the big rub is, is that you've got these kids that are doing it now because the federal judge allowed them to. They have eligibility.
Starting point is 01:33:47 Well, but they really don't because these conferences are saying they don't. So there is an issue with these kids of the class of 2025, or 2026, because they got screwed because this changeover did not happen until December. I can do like a one-year grandfathering event? What's Dayquan-R-Ramp? It wasn't a grandfather. I don't know. That's what I'm saying. Can he get grandfathered?
Starting point is 01:34:07 That's a great question. I mean, why not? If you are Dayquan-right and you didn't have any. Because I do get the other side of this. I totally get, okay, you go pro, that's that. But he wouldn't have gone pro if he had the option. Which he did not. His class now has but didn't have it at the time that he was declaring himself to be a professional player.
Starting point is 01:34:27 So honestly, I mean, it was a big mess and it feels like the SEC got a little bit of egg on their face. But kind of hearing the details that he didn't want to go pro anyways. Or he wouldn't have tried to go pro if he had other options to examine. Right. To exhaust. So now in theory, that doesn't mean it's going to happen a lot, but your favorite college players, regardless of sport, will now be able to play five years. If you're healthy and the team that you're playing for or colleges,
Starting point is 01:34:59 you can move around, you get five years as compared to the member back in the day. You get four. Now you get five. It's good. You get five years. Now, if one of those years are hurt, that's one of your five. If two of your five years are hurt What if you tear your ACL twice? That's not fair. You should get one injury exemption.
Starting point is 01:35:16 Someone is going to sue them for that. And it's going to be... They're going to get sued all over the place. And it's going to be up to whether or not they hold on to this. CAA is getting beat up and down the docket. So this goes back again to the central point. First of all, NCAA just doesn't time things properly. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:35:30 Number two, they're setting themselves for future litigation. And they may win, but they don't normally win. Every time you fight the NCAA, the NCAA loses. Pretty much. So that, I just gave you a long, convoluted, goofy ass offseason for college athletics. And when Saturday comes, we're not going to care about any of it. That is correct. We're going to be locked in.
Starting point is 01:35:53 But the reason why they did this is because they don't want kids getting two and three medical red shirts and COVID and five and five. Because you've got kids that have been to these campuses seven or eight years. COVID year people are going to be aging out soon. That's right. So now it is, and I'll give the NCAA credit on this, it's now simple. If you're an athlete starting this year, which my daughter is one of them, she's a freshman, she can play for Ron Allen or any other college she wants to eventually go play five years. That's all she gets.
Starting point is 01:36:30 You don't get a six-men-a-red shirt. You don't get a COVID. I don't think COVID will happen again, but you get my drift on this. It's five to play five. So you're not going to see teams You know Kids playing seven or eight years because they were able to circumvent the system Until somebody suits them
Starting point is 01:36:47 So I don't know if that's going to happen or not But at least right now it is cut and dry And the word is it's going to be very hard or impossible To get medical red shirts off of the speed Until they lose this lawsuit But what about coaches registering players? Where is that? There's no more there's really no more redshirting
Starting point is 01:37:03 This is essentially eliminating redshirting So redshirt's gone That's yeah you don't need it That can't, that's going to, they're going to lose. There's no way you can't. It seems like, yeah, if you didn't play. If you didn't do any of these hours because you're already contracted to, like two a days, your daughter's doing two of a days, you have to be contracted hours as an incidentally athlete.
Starting point is 01:37:22 You got to put it in 20 or 40 hours in, and you're telling me I can't play, and I lose that whole eligibility, and I went to practice. You didn't play once, and then you practice and pour your hours in there. You didn't practice once, and that goes a year, yes, a year gone. They're going to assume. As I understand it. Okay. Because that if you're on a roster and you are practicing, you're not,
Starting point is 01:37:42 when you are an athlete, you are not guaranteed playing time. No. So they're not, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Feels like this is going to get over. Red shirts are going, are for the most part going away. I get on.
Starting point is 01:37:56 Well, for now. We'll see. We'll see. But I'll say this. It does make it easier to figure out what you've got, when it kind of, the rainwater is because you can now effectively roster build. Or you don't know what you've got left. You definitely know that.
Starting point is 01:38:10 And I'll use my daughter's example. Carly Thomas is a freshman. She can now play through 26, 27, 28, 29, and 30. They know that Carly Thomas, the athlete, whether it's at Rhode Island, hopefully the whole time. But if she does move, she's got until 2030 season to compete. So there it is. So that's just, that's today's edition of convoluted college talk. It'll change in a few months, probably.
Starting point is 01:38:34 Who knows? Everything's been changing. Let me get to this next segment so I can get my time. Oh. That makes sense. He said he's coming back. He's loosened his knees up. He's ready.
Starting point is 01:38:44 Dude, I'm never going back. It's not worth going back. Why do you want to eat good food all the time? I got my degree. Hey, Nacidosis is amazing. That's a big toss down. 713-212-5-7-90 if you'd like to join us on this show. By the way, this is our first edition of Shut Your Ball Mass up,
Starting point is 01:39:02 and anybody got time for that in the morning. So if you're new to the show, first of all, welcome. Second, I'm Matt to my right. It's Ross. Jonathan's our producer. and if you are mad at somebody like for instance somebody cut you off on the freeway
Starting point is 01:39:15 tell them to shut their bumasses up if you have a co-worker who comes in and tells you what their casserole was like and how they made it and you're trying to get some work done tell me nobody got time to hear about your casserole if you besmirch dolly parton shut your bomb ass up
Starting point is 01:39:28 I don't think anybody's going to do that it's impossible she's the nicest person ever yeah ain't nobody getting time ain't nobody got time for that hey nobody got time for that yep I did double check Jonathan, under the new 5-5-5 rule, traditional red-shirting, medical red-shirting,
Starting point is 01:39:54 are you limited under this new 5-4-5. Shit your bum-ass up, man. Tell me how you really feel. Now, I'll say this. My daughter is going to play her first match on Friday. She's a freshman. So at this point, as long as she stays healthy, she's going to get an extra year playing college. Now, they have to pay for it.
Starting point is 01:40:12 I ain't going to pay for it, but five years gives her additional year to play. and for non-rev sports and for non-sports that move on to pros, it's a good thing. Now, if you're an NFL player, you're probably done after three anyway, like you normally would. Or in college and the NBA, you're done after one. But if you're a golfer, if you're a track and feel like you were, Jonathan, you get five years to do this now. Do scholarship athletes get full medical, like everything taken care of if there's some kind of injury? The school takes care of all the medical. If you get hurt under the team, you can't, you know.
Starting point is 01:40:42 The best thing for her. What if you get like a motorcycle accident in the summer or something? No. You love this. She's texting me. She goes, Dad, they clean my clothes. And I get to practice and they're always, everything's done for me. I'm like, yeah, you're playing.
Starting point is 01:40:53 I mean, that's what they do. It's not going to hit her really into those first couple of games. I know, I know. She's spoiled. Good for her. All right. Shut your ball ass up. Ain't nobody got time for that.
Starting point is 01:41:02 713, 212, 5, 790. Ross has got a couple of stories. He wants a good office. I do. Let's go. Yeah, so I was in Seattle on Saturday. I guess it was Friday at that point. and I had a reservation at,
Starting point is 01:41:17 supposed to be one of the best cocktail bars in Seattle was at 5.30. I was checking into the hotel at 3.30. Booked it on Priceline. Yeah, I'm naming you Priceline. Go there. They're like, we don't have any record of you booking anything. And so they had to call Priceline. Then I had to call Priceline.
Starting point is 01:41:36 They gave me the wrong confirmation number. Then I called them again and got another confirmation number that it was for somebody else. And now I've been calling them since Monday trying to get taken. They still charge me. The hotel never got the reservation. They never had any record of me staying there. And they still have charged me for the hotel room. And it has not come off.
Starting point is 01:41:57 Price line, ain't nobody got time for you. Ain't nobody got time for that. I'm not using them anymore. Because you don't even get any good deals off of those anymore. You used to be able to find good deals and you could save like 30, 40, 50 bucks, depending on whatever. Now it's like a handful of dollars, if anything. Sorry, Jonathan. Everything's gone downhill. You can't even get a good deal on
Starting point is 01:42:15 price line anymore. And they're screwing me and I've called them like 10 times. One of the guys, I was on hold for 27 minutes and then they hung up on me. No callback at all. You suck, Price Line. Anybody got time for you. About 20 years ago, Jonathan, I used rice rind to get a hotel in San Antonio.
Starting point is 01:42:36 I got it for like $48 and the normal rack rate was about $215. So I walked in there. I'm like, this is a man. Kim and I were young married and had no money. Like, yeah, when we're here at this really nice San Antonio Hotel, I said, can we get a high floor we'd like to be able to see? He goes, oh, no, sir, you're a price line. Ground floor
Starting point is 01:42:52 by the side where people were parking their cars. It's nice and convenient. But $48, hey. Yeah. I'll take that wrong now. Shut your bum ass up. No, I want on that floor. You can't be on the bad ass up, man.
Starting point is 01:43:05 When you priced lined? Hey, didn't have to give me the $48 rate. I could have paid more. But shut your bum ass up anyway. shit so bum ass up man and eat it too they said ain't nobody get time for you all right what's your second problem i didn't even get a i didn't even get a room oh then i land and so on the way back i went south i went to seattle direct on the way there yeah southwest i'm gonna say it they screwed up then on the way back i connected through dallas very easy connection super simple well first of all first leg delayed second leg delayed
Starting point is 01:43:36 and then my bag i go to you know they have the little thing like check where you're you're you're bag is. Yes. It says it's in Denver. Yeah, sure. It was on the way there. Why is my... No, I was going to Dallas, then to Houston. Why is my bag in Denver? Southwest. Ain't nobody got time for that. Ain't nobody got time for that.
Starting point is 01:43:54 So how long it'll take you before you get your bag? It was available the next morning. I still haven't picked it up. Wait, wait, they're not going to drop it off at your house? They could have, but I said I'll pick it up because it was a $200, I get a $200 travel voucher. So they are taking care. Oh, wait a minute. I would let them lose my bag for
Starting point is 01:44:10 $200. How hell, yeah. I'm going to pay to park when I go pick it up, though. $200 voucher. That's golden. No, I appreciate them, but I still would rather just have my bag. So you can't use, you can't get mad at dark breast? I am mad at them. No, you can't for $200? My bag was in Denver. Hey, I got an idea. I'm going
Starting point is 01:44:26 on Schmiding tomorrow to Providence. Lose my bag. Good luck. Put into Minneapolis. Yeah, okay. You're going to be out of the cold with no clothes. It's like 75 there. It's going to be great. Okay. It'll be fine. I would be very happy. What about at night time? I'll be at home.
Starting point is 01:44:41 Yeah. In the room. You're leaving tomorrow? Tomorrow afternoon, yeah. But I'll be here with you hanging out. That's great. 713-213-212-5-7-90. Jonathan, what's the matter with you?
Starting point is 01:44:53 You know what? I was going to hit this NCAA, but I'm going to... You're going to think about it a little bit. Yeah, I'm going to cool off on them. Yeah. They're taking a lot of hits. But, you know, my lady, Yvonne is a teacher. You know, she's an eighth-grade English teacher.
Starting point is 01:45:06 Eighth grade. Oh, they're frisky in the eighth grade. man parents y'all listening right now get them when your kid comes home and has homework watch them do homework there is no reason kids are using chat gbt
Starting point is 01:45:21 and don't they don't understand basic sentences and coming to the teacher's like no i can use chat gbt to do my homework it's okay what dude ain't nobody got time for that you're gonna realize your kid's gonna be 25 they don't know how to do a basic algebra and they can't get no job this is bad man like this is a horrible ordeal like just check their homework check what they're doing see like actually be involved yes i believe any work doing they're not doing any work i have zero

Starting point is 01:46:26 and get the okay but go ahead no you go ahead i'm done i'm done miss corny shout out to you anybody went to main creek uh junior high you know what i'm talking about shit your bum ass up man i you know what i got the only issues I have this week is that some of y'all at 5 o'clock don't know what the hell you're doing when you're driving. I don't know than that, but that's any time in Houston. Oh, yeah, that's true. Like I said that, I think on Monday. Like, I got back from Washington State.
Starting point is 01:46:49 Everybody's going about five over. It's chill. It's a freaking NASCAR race when I landed back in Houston. I will say on 59 headed into the city, people are either going 40 or 80. There's no in between. Let's be consistent. A ram truck going like 108.
Starting point is 01:47:04 And Providence, I'm headed your way tomorrow. Let's get that driving improved there. By the way, Washington, big on the roundabouts. I'm team roundabouts. I mean, it's okay. I go to the one on Washington Avenue just to get in there. Really? I'm on the roundabout just for like a half an hour.
Starting point is 01:47:18 You're in the waymos. Yeah, exactly. Shit your bum ass up, man. Brian on 7.90, what's the matter with you, Brian? Oh, man, what's not this morning? So I get a hold of the R&L trucking, right? I'm a bearing salesman and motor salesman for a company. It's supposed to be heading out to Galveston today.
Starting point is 01:47:37 I get the call this morning Well, it won't be in for another week I said, shut your bum ass out We ain't got no time For a week to turn into three to four days Shit your bum ass up, man Then she tells her out and emails me We've lost the shipment
Starting point is 01:47:57 No one's got time for that, Matt My salary depends on that Hey Brian, we got you, I don't know what you do But whatever it is, if it affects your money, We feel for you. Shut your bum ass up. He's selling bearings and motors.
Starting point is 01:48:10 Shut your bum ass up, man. That a good job? I don't sound like I guess. He's hanging out with us. You ain't getting paid, though. Well, they need to shut their bum ass up, get that order right. All right. Shut your bum ass up, man.
Starting point is 01:48:21 Back on the phone. Shut your bum ass up. Ain't nobody got time for that. 844 sports talk. 713-212-5-790. All right, I got to put Gary and Spring on the phone here. Gary, let me tell you something. I don't mind your takes,
Starting point is 01:48:39 but I don't want you ever singing Bruno Mars again. Can we get past that now? Is that okay? Yeah, I guess so. I was going to close with that. No, it's not. I'll grant you your wish. How about just one time?
Starting point is 01:48:53 And then next time you call, you can use your Bruno Mars material on us. All right, I heard that. Hey, listen, I like to switch here. You guys early and on the, you know, you'll switch places and everything seems to be seems to whoever made that decision seemed to make a made a good choice it's all real good i had no idea that dan he's a talker man he can he can carry that four hours by himself he knows he's pretty intelligent he knows a lot
Starting point is 01:49:20 so i think the switch is working pretty good you guys sound great out thank you nice you to say thank you gary thanks gary you and i are bessies again what else you got listen i want to to all the people out there that are saying jose i too they washed up slow, lost the tips, can't hit, can't throw, can't field, can't do all of that. And for all the people that say that they think this guy should be the new GM of the Astros, that guy, this guy, and everything, everybody out there you don't know what the hell you're talking about. Let the club does this 24-7, 365 days a year, let them do their thing and make the decision
Starting point is 01:50:00 for the club and just watch the club and enjoy them. So instead of giving your opinions on this, not knowing what the hell you're talking about, just shut your bum ass up, man. Shut your bum ass up, man. He tried to sneak it in, didn't he? He tried to sneak in there. You turn to hang up on him? He tried to bring him arsoning.
Starting point is 01:50:20 He told him to shut his bomb ass up. I didn't do that. By the way, the person that's complaining about Jose Al-Tuva is a man in my right. He hates Jose Al-Tuva. Yeah, you do. What? You do people heard it. I do not hate Jose Al-Tuva.
Starting point is 01:50:30 You heard it. I'm realistic. Is he not declined, does? He has a 99 OPS plus and he's a negative in the field. Other than that, he's going great. But he's my guy. I know. I love Ousel Tubei.
Starting point is 01:50:40 But he's in decline. I was like I said, he's like my older brother, but I'm actually 18 years older than he is. Yeah, so I mean. I'm his older brother. You're old enough to be his father. That is not true. You just said 18. I wasn't having sex at 18, Ross.
Starting point is 01:50:54 Clearly, if you'd ever see me back then. What? Dang. I thought you were getting action with that mascot hat on. I'm sorry for the rough upbringing. I thought I was my choice. I thought you were going with May Creek ramming on people.
Starting point is 01:51:07 I was May Creek ramming people. You had the rammed Shat show my ass up, man. So you think I had relations with the mascot head on? You didn't? And we're going to Hall of Fame, Matt. My mother's listening. So is mine probably.
Starting point is 01:51:26 Sorry, Mom. Sorry, Mom. Point two war for Jose Al-Tube in 106 games. Sounds pretty good. Sounds a replacement level. It's not negative. I'm sorry. I love Jose Al-Tube.
Starting point is 01:51:35 build the statue yesterday. But he's not being good this year. OPS is comfortably above 700. Of 708? Is that comfortable to you? In my mind, it's very comfortable. That's a comfortable breathing room over 700? Hey!
Starting point is 01:51:48 I said it was two games. Darrell on 790. Darrell, what's the matter with you? Well, this happened with us a little bit ago. So got a friend of mine who wants to get me my ACDC ticket to me. So I got to download the Ticketmaster app, which I don't have on my new phone.
Starting point is 01:52:04 Okay. I downloaded the app. No big deal, because I've had Ticketmaster account for a while, downloaded the app, got into my account, was able to change my password, no problem, because I didn't know my old password. Then I realized I had my old phone number on there. So I went in there to go try to update my phone number.
Starting point is 01:52:21 It wants to send a code to my old phone number. Oh. Oh. At all. So I call Ticketmaster and she said, okay, I'll verify your account. I give her all the information she asked for. She even sends a code to my email that I backed her.
Starting point is 01:52:37 She said, okay, you've verified your account. Now, I'm going to send you another link. You need to go on that link. You need to send a photo ID in your driver's license in. Oh, hell no. I'm like, lady, are you out of your mind, ticket master? I ain't got no time for that. I have nobody got time for me.
Starting point is 01:52:55 Man, Darrell, from the bottom of my heart, I feel sorry for you. That's terrible. Damn. Rick and Raster, first of all, your fees suck. Number two, you suck. So shut your bum ass up. Shut your bum ass up, man. Terrible.
Starting point is 01:53:08 Rickett Raster. Ricket Raster. Terrible. C on 790C, what's the matter with you? Okay, so whenever people call in, I understand. There's bad takes. Some of them are horrible texts. Some of them, the texts shouldn't even be said in public.
Starting point is 01:53:27 But when calling into a radio station, just say, thanks for your call. Thanks for listening. don't tell people, please don't call back. Dan Matthews, set your bum ass up, and I ain't nobody got time for that. Shut your bum ass up, man. You know what? One of my favorite parts of this segment is collateral damage from other hosts.
Starting point is 01:53:45 See, catching them strays out there. When somebody comes after one of the Adams or somebody or Dan, I guarantee you, Dan is listening right now. I love when I get called out too, or you especially. Me, me, you need to say me especially. I'm sorry, you just said, I don't mind getting called out, period. Yeah. I'm still holding a grudge from you saying. I need to get mold by a mountain line.
Starting point is 01:54:04 Yeah, but you weren't. Yeah, luckily, I didn't come across one either. Last one belongs to Mark on 790. Mark, what's the matter with you? Hey, man. Before I get started, my wife's listening. Happy anniversary, Tony. Now, my suggestion is to you, Matt and Ross,
Starting point is 01:54:25 when Dolly partner is singing, shut your bum ass up. Shut your bum ass up, man. I'll accept that. Matter of fact, we have not played islands in the stream yet. Go to your music app. You want to hear Dolly Parton. Shut your bum ass up.
Starting point is 01:54:38 All right. We normally let it run. It's not like I've been talking over her whole song. No, we wouldn't do that. But we have to get back to talking. Y'all just not respecting her enough. Oh, right. Shut your bum ass up.
Starting point is 01:54:47 I get Mark. And Matt, yeah, you know what Chit Joe bum ass up for saying that other crappy song was better than Jolene. Shut your bum ass up, man. Jolene's mid. Sorry. It just is. Oh, it's more iconic.
Starting point is 01:54:57 No one knows that song from Dali Parton. They know Joe's. never heard that song in my life before today. Here you come again. You've never heard that song. No, because I don't listen to the bridge. All right. I love the bridge. I know you do. I love the blend. And I would listen to Ronnie 99.1. As Jonathan pointed out, she's pouring her so loud on Jolene.
Starting point is 01:55:15 She is begging and pleading. Jolene, you're a whore. Stay away from Dolly's husband. By the way. Giveaway on, believe it or not. She wrote Jolene and I will always love you on the same night. How about that for a night of songwriting? Can I give you another thing?
Starting point is 01:55:30 Okay. Well, I'm not going to use it. Okay, I was just going to say. Oh, go ahead. Well, I'll put it in there. On the song 9 to 5, we hear that, dun, ticadun, ducadun, she used her nails while she was filming the movie to think of the chorus, the lyrics for the, not the lyrics, the rhythm, the melody for the song.
Starting point is 01:55:46 Okay. Because she said it sounded like a typewriter, and they wouldn't let her bring her guitar on set to start thinking about the song. Can I hear the song? Yeah. Are we going to do it? We already did it. We'll play coming back here.
Starting point is 01:55:57 But listen to the. And it's her nails. It's a typewriter, but it's her nails. Is that true or is that some false information? No, I just saw it. I mean, you get dup by a lot of false information. No, I saw her say it myself. I'm just making sure.
Starting point is 01:56:10 Just, let's shut your bum ass out. I love me some dolly part. I would not do Dolly wrong. 713-212-5-790. 7-13-212-5-7-90. This is Matt and Ross in the morning. Matt Ross in the morning. Matt Rose in the morning.
Starting point is 01:56:33 Shout out of your boy, mess up. That's a good time for that. Matt Ross in the morning. Believe it. Sports song, 7 and 8 in the morning. Shout out Javier. That's good stuff. That's good stuff.
Starting point is 01:56:53 All right. Hey, listen, again, if you have any music ability, actually, it doesn't even matter if you do. Sing us. We can just make fun of you? Is that what you want? Yes. Okay. Sing us a little 15 or 20.
Starting point is 01:57:05 seconds, Matt and Ross in the morning. If you mentioned our station, it would be great too, but Matt and Ross in the morning is the main part of it. We're looking for jingles. Yeah, just jingles. You could be like, ba-b-b-ba-b-b-b-b-bong. Matt and Ross in the morning. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:57:19 That'd be good. Go ahead and clip that. Thank you. All right. That's what, too. I would like to hear that on Friday. We're going on the Friday open at 6 a.m. A little early.
Starting point is 01:57:32 And, eight, don't worry. And, by the way, I'll be recording a special introduction for the Friday 8 o'clock. Oh, you will? Yeah. Oh, because you're going to say good night. Evening. No, good night. We're going to retire for the evening strips. We've got to put them to bed. I'm probably going to bed about six.
Starting point is 01:57:47 I don't know if they're staying up to eight. They're really hitting the co-card. Coca-Cola is what I meant. So 2 o'clock, they're done with their shift. Got to count them under the 2.30. Got to shower. Uh-huh. That's still three.
Starting point is 01:58:01 Right. Got to go to breakfast, three to four. Uh-huh. four to five they're going to get on their phone You got to drive home to Clear Lake So six And take you another hour I see the problem is I don't want to wake in my
Starting point is 01:58:12 I don't want to put in bed at six Because most people aren't going to hear it Yeah You got to drive home to your one bedroom apartment In Lamarck takes a while Oh Lamarck great pull Nothing wrong with you Lamar We love you but you know who you are
Starting point is 01:58:23 Baytown knows who you are Cleland knows who you are River Oaks they know who you are Stop off at the meth dealer That's going to take you at least 25 Got to pick up Okay we're done Let's just look at this.
Starting point is 01:58:36 I got to pick up some simulac. Okay. What? 906, sports talk 7.9.8 men and Ross in the morning. I think of some of the day quills starting to kick your ass a little bit. I'm actually feeling good. Last hour. That's not great.
Starting point is 01:58:51 Getting energized. That's not good for the audience. I will be napping at 10. Yes, I'm fighting off a cold. Yeah. All right. It's Astros game two of the series tonight against the Yankees, up one nothing. Oh, by the way, Jonathan, do me a favor.
Starting point is 01:59:03 Let's hear what Nick Totero had to say about his beloved Yankees losing yesterday to yet American League West champion Houston Astros eventually? Doesn't matter. Whenever they play the Astros, even a 500 Astro team,
Starting point is 01:59:19 even a B-Bri-A-Stro team, still finds a way to stick it to the Yankees. I don't know what it is about that team. They just seem to have they just own our souls. I don't know what it is. We've never really
Starting point is 01:59:35 have gotten the demons of that and these aren't even the great Astros or the cheating Astros. This is a mediocre Astro team and we still lose. The best part of the whole thing was the very last swear way to go. I imagine that was an F-bomb, I imagine.
Starting point is 01:59:55 It's a leader in the clubhouse. I'm going to, yeah, I heard it. I heard it real. Okay, I didn't hear it unbeaped. So, Dick's got a point. The Astros have the Yankees number. Yes, they do. Is there some, there is an answer to this,
Starting point is 02:00:12 but I want to see what you guys think about this. It's 713-212-5-7-90. If we're the Astro, if we're the Yankees daddy, who are Houston Sports Team's daddies? It's been the Warriors for the Rockets for a while. That to me was the number one, no doubt about it, got to answer it, answer. The Warriors.
Starting point is 02:00:37 Go with the Braves in the 90s over the Astros. but eventually they won they won the series and kind of ended the Braves run you know it's funny the Chris Burke game 5 was that up against the Braves right yep yep so when the Rockets made the playoffs the first time with EMA
Starting point is 02:00:51 we were sitting around I think we were dinner and I think coach walked by and we were talking about the playoffs and we were just like anybody about a golden state and he's like what are you talking about I'm like you don't know because he doesn't know when you're a Houston sports fan
Starting point is 02:01:06 a Rockets fan you you have you have yeah you have you have chills. You can't sleep at night. You are nauseated all the time. Steph Curry and Clay Thompson 3 is in your nightmares. And Draymond Green
Starting point is 02:01:19 jamming his fingers, two knuckles deep into the eyes of James Hardin. You got Caban Moody doing things. Yeah, you got everybody. You got Rainy and Livingston. Zaza-Pachulia. All of them. Nothing good. Yes. Okay.
Starting point is 02:01:34 Andrew Boggit. Terrible. Yeah, all those guys. All right. And Steve Kerr, as you would say, Matt. I would say Steve Kerr as a coach, yeah. All right, so the Warriors are the Astro. They're the daddy for the Rockets.
Starting point is 02:01:49 Mm-hmm. I don't think so anymore, but it was... The Ravens have kind of been the Texans daddy lately. Patriots? Over, yeah, in the Gary Kubiak era. But when you think about that, it's every year during this last 10-year run. I mean, how many times are the Yankees... Now, they've won series against the Astroids.
Starting point is 02:02:09 I'm not saying they haven't done than that, but how many times that the Yankees been able just to have a good, wow, that was good kicking that Astroass. They haven't done it enough. Certainly in playoffs, they haven't done it. Nothing will beat, we want Houston, and then getting swept in 2022.
Starting point is 02:02:22 That was one of the best all-time series ever. Yep. Okay, so it's the Warriors. For the Astros, probably the Braves. 90s. Because, I mean, the Nationals got you, Atlanta got you.
Starting point is 02:02:40 in the World Series, the Rangers got to the ALCS, the Red So you've had success against all those other teams. That's not like it's not like it's your... Yeah. So it feels like to me it's probably the brave, but that's going back 30 years. So that's good. They haven't had that problem before. Yeah. Well, everybody was their daddy around 2012, 2011.
Starting point is 02:02:56 Texans can't ever beat Baltimore. Yeah, they beat them last year, but Lamar was hurt. That was an embarrassing game for the race. Oh, yeah, they ran through. They had like 10 injuries or something like that. Yeah. They're like four healthy starters. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:03:12 The Colts, I would say, probably, is the next closest to that. Colts were the Texans daddy for a while. It was like a decade plus before they even won in Indianapolis, right? I'm about to ask you a painful question. Whose daddy is the University of Texas? Is there somebody that just bothers you so much? No. Okay, it's good to have. Come on now.
Starting point is 02:03:33 They have the all-time series against OU. They won three of the last four. They destroy the all-time series against the Aggies. They lost Ohio State in 07 and last year, but they beat Ohio State in 2005. I'm sorry, 06. No, it was 07. I was going to say University of Texas football
Starting point is 02:03:52 has beaten us the last few times, but that hasn't been a lot of that. We beat them in basketball, so that's not a lot of that either. We beat Kansas and hoops. Texas had our number of... The final four is your programs, Daddy. Okay, really?
Starting point is 02:04:07 Were you asked? Am I talking about... I'm not going to have an event. Events can be daddy. Yeah, when the final four patch comes on, that's when it's like the clock strikes midnight. I'm going to get you suspended again. Me again.
Starting point is 02:04:21 It felt good the last time. Terrible. Should be embarrassed. By the way, 11 o'clock for that game. I don't want to hear it Cougar fans how it's too hot. I don't want to hear it. Go see your team. Were they playing?
Starting point is 02:04:37 Oregon State. The Beavers. It's going to be hot against the beavers. Correct. Okay. 11 a.m. ESPN. We're going to act like a big boy program.
Starting point is 02:04:45 We're going to fill the place up. I mean, it's either you do it or you don't. I don't want to hear any more excuses. Tickets are reasonable. Nice stadium. Good coach, good team. You'll be in there by 10, 11, you're out by 2.15. You're picked in the top five of the Big 12, right?
Starting point is 02:04:59 Yeah. It's usually it's either, I think it's either third or fourth. Are they ranked? Yeah, top 25 ranked. Top 25 ranked. Top 25,000. Come on. Yeah, come on.
Starting point is 02:05:09 You're graduating 40,000 people a year. You can't get one class to show up. 7-13-go-cougs. You hear me, 7-1-3-go-cougs. 9-21. Sports Talk 7-90. Man, oh, man. I'm looking for you.
Starting point is 02:05:44 There are people that are in politics. There are people that are in religion. There are regular people. Everybody's got there. This is terrible news. Because, again, either she hid it very well, but she was out doing videos and stuff like four or five weeks ago. I thought there was some talk of her being sick.
Starting point is 02:06:04 There has been, yes. She's been battling, I think, kidney stones and some other things going on. But she's always doing these videos. They're like, hey, I'm trying to get back out there. I was trying to do too much. There was some sort of Dollywood event that she wanted to be at, but she could not attend because she wasn't feeling well. But, yeah, man, oh, man, oh, man.
Starting point is 02:06:21 Now Kenny Rogers and her up there together at the same time. Kenny Rogers did? You didn't know that? that? That's a shame. How? You are really... Why are you staring at me? You are really bad at alive or dead.
Starting point is 02:06:34 We do this tomorrow. People should not take your advice at all. Yeah, tomorrow. I'm gonna... Okay. Ken Rogers are dead, 2020. I knew that. Why are you winking at me? I'm not winking. All right.
Starting point is 02:06:45 By the way, as you mentioned, that song written by the Bee Gees. Yeah. You know who it was written for? Is it for another entertaining group, I'm assuming? Diana Ross. And? Just Diana Ross. Oh, for her.
Starting point is 02:06:58 saying my wife has a duet, yeah. Wow, okay. Real quick, before I go back to the phones, my question today was, now that Dolly is no longer with us, who is the nicest American that is still alive? By way, a lot of you are putting in
Starting point is 02:07:12 Cianna Reeves. Apparently, Keanu Reeves is Canadian. So what? Didn't I say the nicest American? Oh, you did say the nicest American? Yeah, I didn't know that. Yeah. So was Alex Trebek?
Starting point is 02:07:24 He's not on the list. Oh. And he's also dead. Sean Chacon, no, Stephen Silas, Willie Nelson, several Willie Nelson votes. Henry Winkler, that's a great call. That's not bad. But I do believe I have the answer.
Starting point is 02:07:40 Carol Burnett. Who doesn't love Carol Burnett? She's alive? She's alive. Good for her. Yeah. Looks good, too. Okay.
Starting point is 02:07:49 Denzo Washington. I like that. George Strait. Let's see here. Dick Van Dyke is getting some run. Clint Eastwood, Henry Eastwood. Tony Dungey is getting one, Al Green. What about Tony Danza?
Starting point is 02:08:04 Friend of the show. Friend of the show did not appear. He didn't make his appearance, but he's still a friend of the show. Okay, yeah, you did specify American. Adam Sandler, that's a good one. Who didn't love them some Adam Sandler? Yeah, I mean, again, here's the key to being loved by America. Have no political affiliation.
Starting point is 02:08:23 Don't talk about your politics. Don't talk about your religion. Dolly talks a little politics. See, I don't Again, I never knew her for that And she might have But she was, I think she was asked Several times in one story
Starting point is 02:08:34 About who she voted for She said she did not tell anybody, so Well, I can throw you another one, but Please Another, believe it or not question You're going to give away two in one segment? Well, wait Yeah, I'll leave it, I'll leave it
Starting point is 02:08:47 Don't do it. Okay, only a lot of one Keanu Rees has 18 likes, Nothing else on your On your replies has more than three How's how two of it getting a run? Oh, four. Jose Al-Tube is not universally loved.
Starting point is 02:08:59 Come on now. He's universally hated. Me? Yeah. I like his username. SFA has never lost to Duke in basketball. He's so right. I like that.
Starting point is 02:09:07 That is a good one. Oh, Zubei is university love. Stephen Silas is pretty funny. Can I tell you that when SFA... You nominated me. I didn't see that. It's somewhere on there. I saw...
Starting point is 02:09:15 When SFA beat Duke, that was amazing. Now, again, my family is full of Duke fans, so they all lost their mind. But I love when little schools... And it was a regular season game. It was a game. at Cameron Indore, right? Am I right about that? Yeah.
Starting point is 02:09:29 It was at Cameron Indoor. SFA took the check and left with a win. Good for SFA. And they've translated that into zero NCAA wins. Actually, that's not true. You guys won some tournament games, right? The last 10, 15 years? No, the women's team always goes to the tournament, but that's, you know. Have I ever done a game at that arena? Yes or no? No. I have.
Starting point is 02:09:53 Really? Yeah. Yeah, it's okay. Okay? They made the first thing. round of 32 in 83, 2014, and 2016. Yeah, so it's been within the last 15 years. They have never made the Sweet 16. Oh, the round of 32 and 83 was in Division 2.
Starting point is 02:10:10 That doesn't count. Oh, it doesn't count. But, 90, what would you say that the last one was? 14 and 16. Yeah, nothing wrong with winning a tournament game. Oh, 16 has an asterisk. It was vacated by the NCAA. Were y'all doing an SFB and wins vacated?
Starting point is 02:10:21 I don't want you to bring this up. I'm not. Oh, you bury the headline. I see how you are. Why was it vacated? What happened? What the hell are the lumberjacks doing? Go jacks, man.
Starting point is 02:10:32 Go ask some jacks, man. Danny on 790. Good morning to you. Hey, what's going on, fellas? Hi. Hey, love the, uh, look the dolly, I'm going to start off.
Starting point is 02:10:44 Hey, so we're talking about Astros, I've got to say a little bit of a different one more. I love that we're getting to daddy, right? You know,
Starting point is 02:10:56 22 in all. regular season I had a rough at a rough go I challenge you to take a look to when our
Starting point is 02:11:05 wind on the great show at home I know we swept with in 22 and that was amazing
Starting point is 02:11:11 but postseason evenings for them but I say that regular season gosh when you know
Starting point is 02:11:19 yesterday was amazing is it raining is it hopefully you sound like you're in a rainstorm
Starting point is 02:11:26 I wish it was raining hold on with that oh hold on sure why not follow a sports RV yes go ahead on Instagram yes yeah I was saying hey 2022 on man it's been tough it's been tough here regular season games we own Yankees postseason right
Starting point is 02:11:45 That's what's important that's what matters Danny Yeah it kind of does Yeah so we'll still be Yankees daddy right And so their Yankees have just been known to be regular season champs and that's all they're going to be right we're going back to 2009 built a new stadium still looking for that W they are so let's get deep handed it to them and uh you know if that uh gentleman sweep against the Dodgers they let them have one yeah thank you very much danny for the phone call
Starting point is 02:12:13 i don't see any rain tomorrow's supposed to rain i'm sick of pain for one-on-one today heat advisory till seven i haven't not have you seen rain since you've been back no do you see rain you left? I don't think so. No. Didn't rain where you were gone. I didn't rain in Washington. Nice. It's like 72 in the day, 45 at night. Oh, perfect. 45's too cold. Oh my God.
Starting point is 02:12:37 You lived in Minneapolis. I know, as I'm saying. You get a little light jacket on? Feels good. Stare or watch the stars. No, 58 is nice with a light jacket. Forty-five is not light. Nice. No, it's not. I literally, okay. Well, that's you, I guess, because you've got anemia or something. I do. I don't want it cold. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:12:53 I mean, I had a literally. I was wearing khaki shorts and a light jacket at night and that was fine. Okay. Alstroes Sitts, Rockets Daddy, Warriors, Texans Daddy, Patriots and Ravens. We read on that. Currently Astros Daddy? The Mariners?
Starting point is 02:13:11 That's true. This year. And been good. I guess this year. Hadn been good. Yeah, but they beat him in 22. Sweft them. Yordaun loves him. Robby Ray. Yoron loves him. Robbie Ray action.
Starting point is 02:13:24 Yeah, that's true. Jeremy Payne in 18 innings. We don't mind. 18 innings of baseball. Luis Garcia, five innings a shutout ball. It was a while ago. 2026, not so good.
Starting point is 02:13:33 That's why you cannot lose to the... Team still waiting to get it together. Hey, first place. They're on the cusses. First place. They're top on a pile of mid. By the way, the person thinks you're the nice person is crispy chickens.
Starting point is 02:13:47 Thank you, crispy chickens. No thank you, crispy chickens. You're wrong. I know this man. I am very nice. I'm extremely nice. You're fine. 713, 2.1.3.2. 1-2-5-790 7-13-21-2-5-7-90. Astros going for a series win tonight.
Starting point is 02:14:05 And hold on to first place in American League West. Texans are on the practice field in Charlotte. We'll do a little Texan sweet update coming up in just a couple seconds. They're in Charlotte right now as we speak. The newest Texan is there in uniform working out today with his new bros. The man who's going to tie or maybe surpass Nico Collins and touchdowns. year. Now also he played for LSU, so is it a Cajon Bouté?
Starting point is 02:14:31 I've heard both. Baby? Let me ask him. Ion Eagle was saying booty. You true Cajons. Is it booty or booty? I figure whatever Ion Eagle's saying is correct. I don't figure whatever Chris Gordy says is correct. Yeah. You got booty streaking down the field. If Gordy calls in with the official answer
Starting point is 02:14:52 would be good, but he just want to call him because he knows he's going to get Lane Kippin. He wants to defend Lane Kiffin. Yeah, it's what everything is. So funny. Gordy, how you feeling? How's a family? Everybody's going good. You don't think if it's being Miller misunderstood. What? I didn't ask about that. I don't know if you know this or not, because the movie was terrible. But Dolly Parton was in a movie in 1992.
Starting point is 02:15:27 I went to look it up just to double-check the name of it, where she was a talk show host. It was called Straight Talk. Okay. And it had a song to it. And I don't know if you can find it, Jonathan, but see if you can find Straight Talk sung by Dolly Parton. It was, she, apparently, I guess she did this quite a bit. She wrote songs for the movie she was in. She wrote 9 to 5.
Starting point is 02:15:48 Oh, we're going to play 9 to 5, and you wanted to hear the typewriter. Oh, I didn't put that in the, believe it or not, I just forgot. I put the other one you mentioned. That's okay. But yeah, she was in a romantic comedy, straight talk, and I believe her her romantic comedy co-star was James
Starting point is 02:16:04 Woods. Really? straight up straight up yeah didn't make the top fort I'm assuming it was about a movie who leaves her small town life to move to Chicago
Starting point is 02:16:37 where she accidentally becomes a successful radio talk show host so basically it's a Ross Philadelphia Real story that's pretty much it right on cute I'm actually gonna sue them for the rights are you really okay
Starting point is 02:16:47 I love the movie came out when oh seven let's see reception mixed reviews It's the rotten tomatoes It opened it Four and a half million dollars It went on to make $21 million overall
Starting point is 02:17:02 Yeah, I don't even know rotten tomatoes on that But Wikipedia 5.8 on IMDB It's not good That's not good at 42% fresh by critics 58% fresh by fans How do you feel about that?
Starting point is 02:17:16 58% It might be worth a watch on a weekend While you're napping It's on the movies Like casino There's too many movies. Casino. Yeah, that's a good napping movie. Why? Because it's three hours long?
Starting point is 02:17:27 Yes. Oh, Gordon's calling in. He must have heard what you were talking about him. He knows you bad signal. Can he respond to my text? Are you texting? About Friday, yeah. Oh, let's talk to, uh, Warrior. He did. He gave me a thumbs up.
Starting point is 02:17:40 Warrior, you're on 790 with Matt and Ross in the morning. What do you got, Warrior? You know, sports sucks. 790 in Houston and out coast to coast like milk and toast on the entire heart radio app. Anyway, and look, don't DFA me like you did last time, and I had to be on the next show. But, the Warrior, first of all, congratulations to Texans. You never have to worry about February. And my goal is after this call to be bigger in Houston than offset was.
Starting point is 02:18:06 But I'm excited about the way the Astros are playing. The Warrior is, too. And if you look at what they've done, to include Jose Al-Tube, look at Brayhu, look at Al-Tube, and see what they've done since July the 1st. I mean, he can't go back and hit, you know, 500 so that he can get his average over 300 for the year. But I think that the move of moving Dana Brown, and then the rumors of my good friend, Gene Watson, taking that post as me looking forward to not only the end of this year, but neither as well. And if I could change one thing or two things, one would be the trade for Nick Allen.
Starting point is 02:18:46 The second one is I still don't understand why you tell. trade a middle to top of the rotation picture are what I would call a Saturday night picture in Ergeti. Now go Astros. It's nice to be a fan and I'm going to enjoy my time out here in Nacadocious and maybe I'll even go to some SFA games. Anyway, the Warrior thanks to you. Thank you for having a good morning show. It makes me get up early. Now I can watch the grass grow for the rest of the day. The Warrior thanks to you and I appreciate you, not DFA in me. Thank you,
Starting point is 02:19:23 Thank you, Warrior. Thank you for using yourself in third person multiple times. He's been promoted up to AAA. Yeah, you know, he's Arizona Fall League. I mean, that's rude. No, I mean, you're still going to play. People like you. Okay. You don't go to Arizona Fall League just to play. They want to see something come out
Starting point is 02:19:39 out of you there. Oh, okay. Yeah. Sure, why not? All right, so I forgot why we called Gordy. Anyway, we're calling it. I don't know. We were talking about LSU and Lane Kiffin. Lane Kiffin number one. Booty. Oh, Kisham Bouté. It's Kisham Boutte now, man.
Starting point is 02:19:52 Keshaw Boutte or Kisham Bouti. Let's go live to Charlotte, North Carolina for Texans practice update with Gordy. Gordy, how is Charlotte this morning? It's hot. How hot is it? It's not quite as hot as Houston, but it's hot. All right. So is it Bouté or Bouti?
Starting point is 02:20:13 It is booty. Kishon is. is confirmed that multiple times. His family says Kay Sean Booty. But if you're going south of New Orleans to Homa Booty, spelled the same. It is Booty. But there has never, ever been a Booty.
Starting point is 02:20:30 Bill Belich made that up. Okay. So it's all Booty all the time with you. Yeah, Booty with no emphasis on either the boo or the T there. But if you're going to Homa Bootee, put the emphasis on the T. Okay. All right. More importantly, what are you going to do for tight-in now that you're not going to be able to keep the kid around after all?
Starting point is 02:20:53 We have the best tight end in the country and trade has green. So that was just, it was a move for depth, Matt. You know, adding depth is all Hank Kiffin was trying to do. Well, he was being a humanitarian. He wanted to make sure that a young man who went to the NFL for a short cup of coffee had a place to land to get himself as quality education. He thought to himself, you know what? Oxford's fine, but you can get a better education. in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Starting point is 02:21:18 Well, if the NCAA wasn't a bunch of corrupt idiots that just, you know, decided, you know, could have made this ruling back in February, these poor kids that played four years of college football, and then suddenly in June they go, hey, everybody gets five years now. And then the guys went, what about the guys who just graduated that? No, no, no, they're screwed. But moving forward, everyone gets five. I mean, that's kind of the gist of this. Well, it was the judge that allowed these kids from the previous class to get in.
Starting point is 02:21:45 So if there was no judge ruling, then it would have been a moot conversation to begin with. You know this. Right. And so what's happening right now is you're getting kids like U of H just had a kid from Arizona State, Ghost. It's his name. He is a guy that did not go to the NFL because I guess he wasn't good enough. So he gets a fifth year, so he gets to come play at U of H. But the guys that went to the draft process, even if they only went undrafted and only ended up with a training camp, they're screwed.
Starting point is 02:22:11 They can't go back. Yep. It's not great. I'll admit. It's not great. This turned out poor terribly. I don't mind the five and five, but yeah, there was going to be some collateral damage and anybody that was a part of this past draft class because of the ruling and because of the late nature of the five for five,
Starting point is 02:22:29 I mean, it is what it is. But I do find out like the fact that the SEC basically was shamed into doing what the Big Ten said they were going to do, and that was not a lot of professional ethics to come back. So shame on your conference for not stepping up and doing the right thing originally. Well, that's what I said. They should have done this a year ago. Like, Greg Sankey has been, I mean, he's been getting his ass kicked on the field. He's been getting his ass kicked off the field with every decision. The Big Ten has been a step ahead of the SEC with everything the last two years.
Starting point is 02:23:00 So, yeah, I mean, it's common sense. Now, I do like he included the G League in there, too, because there's that whole guy, the Charles Betty Akko stuff. You can remember him where he came back from the G League. So now it's like, if you played in any semi-pro or pro league, even if it was just a couple, of coffee, you cannot go back to college. And they include the WNBA in there. You can't even go to the WNBA training camp and come back to college. Or for that matter, professional softball that is also that was put into play as well. The softballers can't do it either.
Starting point is 02:23:29 Nobody that signs anything professionally can come back. They didn't, they did not put softball or baseball in there. So if Paul Steens puts to come back to LSU next year, he can do it. Oh my God. That's terrible. All right. Anything else you got to add for us besides the booty update? No, just, you know, call me whatever you need a booty call. That'll be on the Friday Open. Thank you very much, Gordy. That's what Mike Vrable said, I think. Nick Casario. Yeah, who's answering that call?
Starting point is 02:24:04 By the way, he shamed Greg Sanky. That's not going to do him while at the SEC Media Days next year. Greg Sanky's not listening. You don't know that. You know that. Could be. Hey, let's play, believe it or not, you want to? Okay.
Starting point is 02:24:15 All things about Dolly Parton. Sure, why not. Have we played all the Dolly Parton hits, by the way? I think so. didn't play, I will always love you. That's kind of depressing. Not a way to win in the show of the day. So is Jolene. We can do 9 to 5.5 more. I don't know. She's probably got some other hits. All right, really quick. What's going on in Texanville today?
Starting point is 02:24:41 Allie Gay, defensive end, carded off the field. Also, Brayden Smith, offensive lineman, the Texans picked up in free agency who had not had a good camp because he was down on the depth chart also being taken off on a cart. Oh dear. Also great dry block by Texans rookie Keelan Rutledge, shoving Panthers Defender far off ball to the second level.
Starting point is 02:25:09 Keelan Lerlich is going to be a dog. You're going to be a dog. Big dog. I'm excited about the big dog. Has he gotten in a fight with anyone yet? Nico Collins with his first catch of the day for offense versus Panthers. You love it.
Starting point is 02:25:24 and Kashan Booty doing individual portion now working on the side with a Texans trainer. There is your Texans update today brought to you by Cal McNear. Why Cal? He's sponsoring his segment of the show. He did? He doesn't know it yet, but we're saying him an invoice. We got five minutes left to go on the show. What should we do?
Starting point is 02:25:46 What should we do? We should play America's fastest. growing sports radio game show we simply call it B, leave it or not, and here's how it works. You call 713-212-2-7-19.
