This is Matt and Ross in the morning.
Six o'clock in H-town.
What?
Yeah.
Six o'clock in the morning?
Good morning.
It's Matt and Ross in the morning on Sports Talk 790.
Thank you, young lady.
What the hell is this?
We don't have a game from last night.
Oh, okay.
Got to wake people up.
With some AI auto tune.
That wasn't bad, actually.
I mean, the lyrics were a little lacking.
but other than that it was fine.
I guess we're not going to submit that one for the Grammys is what you're saying.
Yeah, I'm saying that 24 hours ago we were yelling at the top of our lungs swearing because we weren't on the air,
but everything was just fine.
Oh, none of us was, yes.
For sure.
But, way, shout out to me for not going to bother Jonathan during that very tumultuous time.
I think you were bothering them a little bit.
No, we actually were a good team.
We all knew we needed to leave each other alone.
Oh, absolutely.
Absolutely.
I did scream one swear word really loud.
Okay.
And I had to do it because it was...
This morning.
I was just screaming at the Rick Ronald's drive-thru,
but that's a different story for probably tomorrow
around a little...
Wait, I was going to say 11-30.
Not 11-30.
You can do it 11-30, but Dan probably will not be pleased with that.
I can just walk in.
That's true.
It's Matt and Rossi in the morning on Sports Talk 7-90.
I hope you guys slept well.
We had no game last night to get to.
I actually watch a little bit of the Little League World Series.
I'm kind...
How'd that go?
I don't know.
I didn't stay up for the whole thing.
Who won?
again, I don't know.
The team of children.
Yes.
And the very portly umpire.
I mean,
major league umpires have done a really good job of staying fit.
Little league,
they don't worry about it so much.
Yeah, they're not worried about it.
There's a lot of chili fries at Little League.
I mean, it's not their fault.
Now, granted, I don't think they get paid.
They get their expenses paid.
For real?
Yeah, but they don't get paid to call the games.
I don't think so.
Oh, you know what?
You take what you can get, Little League.
Cut them a check.
I don't disagree.
What's all this money they're getting off ESPN and they're advertising.
I don't disagree.
I don't disagree at all.
That's not right.
But, yeah, they're a heavier set.
They're going to go there and they're going to get, yeah, first of all, they're crushing their knees.
That guy, yeah, those guys are kind of big.
I'm worried about the, I hope they get nice knee braces.
Those are going to cost you.
Yep.
Medical expenses.
Yep.
And food expenses.
Yep.
They should get a little cash.
Oh, I'm sure the party trays and the umpires working locker room is just spectacular.
Yeah, it's probably nice at the Little League World Series, but at these little regionals and stuff like that.
Oh, no.
Like when Oklahoma is staging these fake tournaments with a bunch of teams that aren't.
eligible? That's right. It's actually part of the reason why I've kind of, because look, two of my three boys competed in Little League, I mean, I have two, I think I've got two boys.
Two of my three children competed in a little league baseball. And, you know, it's just, it's an odd group. Little League sports in general is an odd group.
Yeah, it's weird. And I'm parents, I experience it in baseball and then I experience it in volleyball. The people are hanging around and don't have kids.
Who's doing that?
It's funny, many years ago.
That's me when I show up with a cooler of beer.
Ross is like, can I come to some of Carly's volleyball events?
And I'm like, yeah, I mean, there's a good recruiting out there.
Uh-huh.
But you wanted to bring a 12-pack with you, and I said, that's a sixer.
Yeah.
Well, the thing is now the traveling teams, and I'm sure they do this in baseball,
and know there's basketball, is that you go to the hotel and you camp out in the lobby,
and you get S-Faced drunk for about four or five hours and let your kids run around.
Yeah, I noticed that when I was visiting in Kansas City earlier this year.
There was a volleyball tournament in town.
Oh, yeah. That hotel bar was packed.
Melf, extraordinaire.
Am I wrong?
You can say Melf on the radio, can't you?
Jonathan ruling on that?
Melf, okay?
What is that stand for, Matt?
Moms, I'd like to...
Oh.
God, I see it?
Yeah, that came to a screezy mom.
A reminder is 603, okay?
He's got to get his notebook out in the first five minutes.
I know. I shouldn't have done that.
Moms, you'd like to what?
Further.
Say hello to?
I don't know.
Whatever.
Let's get to sports.
Yes.
On the radio program today, we will have the sounds at 630.
That's the same we're going to have every day.
We were going to have it yesterday, but we had all hell break loose here.
So we will have that.
It's going to be just audio around the world.
Mine comes from the Houston Texans, and it doesn't involve the acquisition,
but it just involves Demico wasn't pleased yesterday.
So we'll have it for you at the sounds at 630.
Ross will have something for you as well.
We have gut feelings today at 830.
The season debut of Ross's NFL Rewind.
there's going to be some things on a rewind that we're going to have to talk about ahead of time, including
prostitutes, trailer parks, and an NFL owner.
Which one of those things do is not fit?
All of them fit.
All of them fit perfectly.
For those of you that don't know, Jay York is the owner of San Francisco Four DeN-in-enders, and he was arrested for soliciting a prostitute in a, in a, I don't know if it was exactly at the trailer park, but that's where he was detained.
Now, I believe that's where, yeah, we have a friend of ours that we will not discuss his name.
Okay.
That has said on multiple occasions.
And he's, I guess, I would describe him as a libertarian.
Okay.
Said that what two adults want to do in terms of transactions.
Why is the law getting involved in this?
Basically saying that if a woman wants to sell her body for sex for an amount, as long as there's nothing in terms of,
assault or trafficking or anything legal.
That's what two consenting adults can do and leave them alone.
Yeah.
And it's legal in many places.
Right.
Got out in Nevada, but outside Vegas, right, or something like that?
Yeah, but it's, I mean, it's way outside of Vegas.
I told you I went there one time.
Yeah, that's true.
Scared to death.
Yeah.
John, you don't know this.
That's where you got robbed a gunpoint, right?
I went to a whorehouse when I was 21.
And we drove all the way out there.
We got a menu and we found out how much expensive.
expensive they were and I was so scared that as soon as I walked in I turned right back
around.
I was so scared.
We went two hours.
Walked.
Okay.
Stop out of there.
Stop there recording.
It's not going to work.
People know.
Everybody knows.
You were out of there in five minutes.
Maybe two.
And I did not cuddle or anything.
No, cuddling.
Nothing at all.
Yeah, that costs extra, right?
All right.
Point being is this.
Yeah, it is legal in some parts of very few parts of very few parts of our country.
and certainly around the world it is openly endorsed.
I don't want to Google that on a work computer,
so I'm just going to leave that alone.
Yeah, but you have to go, it's not,
and people think it's in Clark County,
which is Las Vegas, that's not actually true.
You have to go way outside of,
they have gone in the middle of nowhere in Nevada to make that happen.
So it is, I mean, I've seen the show on HBO.
I did too. I love that show.
Cat House?
Yeah.
But it was, it was repetitive.
It was like the cash.
Yeah, you saw one episode, you saw them all.
Yeah, like the cab show where they were,
Oh, taxicap confessions?
Yeah, that same thing.
You watch one episode you've seen them all.
All right.
So we'll move to Jed York, certainly during the course of the radio program today.
Let's get to, we got some Texans news to get to including a tray, which, by the way, Jonathan, I hit a gut feeling on it, by the way.
You did?
You did.
You did.
You did.
What did you say?
Texans got them some booty.
You said Kashon booty was going to be Houston.
There's no way.
I don't want to admit it, but he did.
How did he nail that?
You know why?
Because this guy in the morning.
One half of Matt, Ross in morning, is an NFL Texans insider.
All right, it's too bad.
You can believe all you want.
This is crazy.
This happened when I was gone?
Yes, sir.
No, I was in Mount Rainier at that time.
Yes, sir.
I told you all booty was coming here.
Kisham Booty was coming here.
Wow.
And I'm going to tell you something right now.
What the hell are the Patriots thinking?
I think it's stupid on their part.
And genius for the Texans.
We'll get to that on the show.
All right.
So yesterday was a very odd day when it came to what happened.
So let's put everything in perspective here.
Steve Sparks is on our show from 8 to 815.
As soon as that conversation is over with,
literally before the bottom of the hour, I want to say,
the release comes out that Dana Brown has been relieved of his duties.
Yes.
Shortly after that, 823 a.m.
We got the release.
Interesting on the timing.
Okay.
You're saying Steve Sparks, let him go?
No, I'm saying that it was just interesting on the timing.
That's all we'll say.
After that, later in the morning, Bob Nightingale does the story,
and he basically buries the second part of the major headline.
And the second part of that major headline was that Joe Espada is also not coming back,
according to quote-unquote a high-ranked Astros official,
and that he was given the option to stay,
the rest of the season and finish out his tenure as a manager of the Astros or to, you know,
see a later alligator kind of thing and that he chose to stay.
Well, that created another round of firestorm.
The Astros were quickly to say that's not true.
And then Bob Knightingale shortly after that, well, I didn't say shortly,
it had been a couple hours, had to come out and say,
there's an update of the story of his own story that said that there has been no decision made
about the future of Joe spotted that up.
be made at the end of the season.
Which begs the question.
Where did Bob Nightingale get this from?
That is correct. Now,
Bob, here's the problem with Bob.
Bob misses on a lot of stuff.
They call him Boob Nightingale for a reason.
Yes, they do.
He gets stuff wrong all the time.
And he hits on some things.
But like, for instance, when we hear Shams,
that's the NBA, he bats basically a thousand, right?
Yes.
When we have
Schefter
Or Rapaport
They're about
990
990 whatever
Yeah
When Jeff Passens
He's 990
Yeah
Nightingale's about 750
And that's 25%
Sometimes
Maybe even lower
Yeah
And that's the thing
Normally I would say
Well it sounds like a reporter
knew this
And he wasn't supposed to say
It's corrected it
But when is Bob Nightingale
He's a wildcard
This could have come out of nowhere
This could be
There could be
Misinterpretation
wrong, misheard.
What's going, what's wrong with him?
He's got, I mean this in the nicest way possible.
It's like he's got a brain defect.
Like he's got, he's got something wrong.
I've told you this before.
I've met him and talked to him at least 10 times in my life.
He used to live in Minnesota and moved to Arizona and then got the national game from there.
I've had nothing but pleasant experiences with him.
A really decent person.
He's terrible on the radio.
He will never be on our show.
That's a show.
It's just not good.
And also, by the way, he's not going to be good because I don't always believe him.
So you don't, you know, a little radio 101, you don't put on people that you don't believe to be credible all the time.
Yes.
You kind of stay away from that because it makes you look bad if they're giving you wrong information.
Point being is this.
He doesn't bat a thousand.
He makes typographical errors all the time.
He gets things wrong.
He has to retract probably what, at least two out of the first.
every 10 stories that he has.
Now, he may come back and say,
I told y'all I was right
because, I mean, I think
obviously the handwriting is on the wall that Joe,
the Jim Crane is not happy, that Joe's spot is going to
be lost on the end of the season.
Yeah, the reporting wasn't surprising.
Him saying that wasn't super,
it was kind of a surprise, but not too much.
Not too much, not too much.
But the timing of it about Joe having the option
is interesting.
So, Joe is having to refute this.
Jim Crane didn't fly up to New York,
because of this, but Jim Crane knew that he needed to talk to some media, so he will be in New York today.
He also said there was a press, Bob Knight and he said there's a press conference.
There's no press conference.
They're going to, he's going to meet with some media that are there in kind of an informal setting,
but there's going to be no microphone dais and all that kind of thing where people are going to ask.
Okay.
But he is speaking.
But he is going to speak.
So we'll give him a half credit on that one.
So the reality is this, when I saw the story, first of all, I was like, you sure you're right on this?
The Astros were very quick to say that it was inaccurate.
But the big point of view of this is Ross,
is barring that the Astros make a significant deep run in the playoffs,
I think we're looking for a new manager in 2027.
I think either way.
Yeah.
No matter what.
I don't even...
Literally a World Series run.
Maybe he's back.
And again, I will say at that point, if I'm Joe Spot, I'm like, screw you.
I'm going to go, I'm going to hit the open market, maybe.
Yeah.
All right, let's get to the fall.
We got Felipe early on.
Woo!
No, we used to call the 10 o'clock.
Is he still up from last night?
He might be.
We had 10 o'clockers.
Do we have 6 o'clockers?
Ooh, 6 o'clock maniacs?
You're a maniac if you're in a 6 o'clock.
Let me say, you're a 6 o'clock maniac.
If you're listening to this show right now, shout out to all of you.
713, 212, 7.0.
By the way, real quick, my drive is a lot faster than it is.
Obviously, normally it's an hour and 10 when I were coming in before.
Mine's the same.
It's, shut up.
It's 40 minutes now.
But y'all are terrible drivers at 5 o'clock in a lot.
Bad, bad, bad.
Oh, my.
Do you guys flashing red lights means stop, people?
My freeway drive, Jonathan, really quickly is half the cars are going 40 and half the cars are going 90.
There's no mid-range at all.
It was a shock coming back from Washington State where people go like five over.
I was like, oh, I forgot them back.
I'm driving home from Hobby because I parked my car at the local parking lot.
And I'm like, oh, I forgot him back in the NASCAR race.
There's like a ram 15.
coming at me in 98 miles an hour.
And I'm like, oh, I'm back in the NASCAR race.
I forgot.
It was an adjustment period.
By the way, the worst drivers in America, I always move this around.
It's kind of a moving arrow.
Providence, Rhode Island.
Really?
Oh, my God.
I've heard that.
I've actually heard that.
Oh, my God.
Before you.
It was terrible when I was up there moving carly, and my wife and I talk daily, obviously.
And she's like, God, I almost gotten five more accidents today.
People cannot drive worth crap.
Washington State, quite pleasant.
I feel like maybe, you know, I mean, weed is legal up there.
Well, maybe it's a little more smooth.
Yeah, exactly.
A little like some of a jesus.
Cruise control.
So here's the predicament, Ross, that the Astros Clubhouse now has.
If there is any validity to Bob Knight and Gil's report,
which the Astros basically poo-poohed almost immediately,
forcing Bob to not retract but kind of update.
It should be a retraction.
I mean, you've a report something and it's wrong.
Shouldn't you be issuing a retraction?
What's going on?
There's no standards and practices today?
Not involving the X platform, no.
Okay.
But it was on his USA Today article.
Oh, that's true.
I mean, I don't subscribe to that or read it.
So, yeah, but you're right.
I don't know if that part was.
I know his tweet retracted or updated.
I don't know if it was his story.
I read the story initially and it had that in there and I was like, oh my gosh.
And then Chandler, Rome, put out an article saying none of that was true.
According to all of his sources.
Yeah.
So here's something.
the bigger picture of this. If there's any validity
to it, look, these are
26 men that are in a clubhouse
that are not running
through what Bob Nightgill is reading, but guess
who is? They're buddies, and
their agents. So
everybody in that clubhouse
may or may not believe
the story that Joe Espada has already been told he's
not coming back, and that it was
his decision to stick around. Well, that's true or not.
Again, who the hell is? I mean, he probably had to have a team
meeting about it. Well, not yesterday.
they were off, so they were all doing their thing.
But it's going to make Joe's job
even much more
difficult. Unless
Jim Crane goes in that
clubhouse shuts the door and says,
listen, guys, what Bob Nightingale
said, or he may say
what media reports is complete fooey,
Joe's your manager, and we're going to get
going. Anything short of that,
those guys got to be thinking, I don't want to play
play hard for this guy. He's not my manager.
We could go the other way. Well, let's win one
for the Gipper.
send Joe on his way out with some wins.
Rally the troops.
You know, Taylor Tremel, I might feel that way.
Maybe might.
I don't think the guys are going to, it's not going to affect their on-field performance too much more.
I don't think Christian Walker is going to be in the box.
Like, Joe's out, man, I don't know.
Oh, I struck out.
No, no, no.
For instance, if we had somebody here at the office, we knew our sales manager was leaving.
Uh-huh.
We're not going to come here and do a lesser job of a show.
Of course not.
But we're also going to know that when we see that guy, we're like, hey, man, it's
What do you have a little awkward?
It's going to be awkward.
We're not going to ask about the future.
Because we know our future is and we know his is not part of it.
Maybe like Hunter Brown when he comes to pull him, he's going to kick him in the shin.
Something like that.
Like if Hunter Brown gets pulled in the sixth inning and it's like, no, I'm staying out here.
Joe's like, no, you're going to.
It's like, man, I'm here next year.
You're not.
Bye.
Get your ass back in the club.
Maybe nobody's here next year.
That's true.
My point is this.
It didn't do Joe any favors if he had anybody who's wobling.
Here's a brutal honesty.
Not every clubhouse loves its manager.
Not every coach in a 53-man NFL locker room loves.
Not every in a 15-man NBA locker room.
Nobody loves a coach universally.
There's going to be somebody that's going to be complaining about the way he,
somebody was called out, playing time.
Am I being traded?
Why don't you give me a contract?
Nobody is completely happy with anything.
You like to have as much kumbaya as possible.
Yeah.
But it's just not, it's just impossible.
So the question is,
and we'll never really know the answer because we're not going to go ask 26 players,
how you don't feel about your manager today now that we heard that he might be gone at the end of the year?
They're not going to say anything about it, but it's, it didn't do Joe any favors.
No, it didn't.
It was, I don't even know.
That's why I was kind of surprised that it had come out, that that got released,
and then it was Bob Nightingale, and now it's been retracted.
Now I don't know what to think.
Like I said, anybody else ought to have been like, oh, he wasn't supposed to say this,
and then he had to retract it.
Bob Nightingale, stuff comes out of left field that is like not based in fact at all.
And the funny part of it is
is that Bob will get some really big stories.
Yes.
And I mean, to be honest,
Bob's put some stuff out that it's come from the Astros side.
Do I believe Bob Nightingale has Jim Crane's phone number?
Absolutely.
Do I absolutely for 100% truth know that Dusty Baker and Bob Nightingale are friends?
Yes.
So anything that came out of the Astros when Dusty was running around,
you were to believe that.
And that's what some reporters have relationships with some managers and general managers and owners and some don't.
So what the relationship is between Bob Nightingell and Jim Crane, I don't know.
I just know that Dusty Baker and Bob Knight and Gay were bros back in the day.
He's a wild card at the end of the day.
The end result of what he reported is probably going to be right is that Joe Espott is not going to be back here.
All right.
Let's go to Felipe on 790 at 626.
Felipe, good morning to you.
Good morning, guys.
Actually, no, I'm not up from last night, but I do make the time in at this time.
So I listen to y'all on the way to work
And then I'm listening out throughout the day
All day
Thank you.
Appreciate you, Felipe.
But, uh,
Mr. Thomas, I want to say
congratulations on the hit
because I thought you were turning C now
whenever you said the Texans
wanted to get more going to get foodie.
I'm a Patriots fan.
I really didn't like the trade,
but I have to see it as like a Kyle Tucker trade as well.
It's his final year.
Yes, he is.
Hey, he can go to the Texas.
We won't wait.
We got to get what we get for him
because he didn't want to sign with us.
But here's the problem with that is that, first of all,
you did have too many receivers.
I get that.
but why would you help out a team that you're directly going against for potential
AFC championship?
I'm stunned by that.
I'm not even worried about the trade or the value.
I'm worried about you.
Why would you even help the Texans out?
Correct.
I agree.
But to me,
the way I saw it was,
hey,
I mean,
Texans really don't have a great quarterback that is elite,
you know?
I think that's where they're lacking.
But if CJ,
like Monk told me,
this is his year to get his contract.
He's got all the receivers.
He's got all the tools to make the plays and get far into the season and into
the playoffs.
it's up to him to make it happen.
It's up to him to get paid.
You have everything there, all the resources,
but if you're not performing,
that's when the team knows,
hey, it's time to let you go and go another route
with a different quarterback.
So I think that's what they're trying to do
get as much, like, targets.
That's the Texan side, the Patriots.
I really don't know.
I'm surprised.
I'm so shocked.
I didn't see it coming,
but you got me,
you're Mr. D'Amis,
you know, you're Mr. Texas.
You got it right on that one.
Thank you.
I have a great day.
Thank you.
It's terrible.
Well, I mean,
Apparently, I'm not like that I'm combing through the Patriots depth chart,
but they needed some safety depth.
So they got the player Jalen Reed.
The market wasn't as hot as they were hoping for Kishon Booty.
They were asking for like third, fourth round pick.
Yep.
And nobody was doing that.
So they wanted to unload them.
They got some safety depth and a seventh round pick.
I mean, they've already made, they're already deeper on the receiving court.
They had an extra spot.
Boutje was in the last year of his contract.
So, I mean, not only are you getting somebody to fit the bill for 2026,
but you're also got a guy that's looking to get his pay.
check because he wasn't a first round pick
so he doesn't have a fifth year option he's got his
is the last year of his contract yeah you got
a j brown romeo dabs to mario douglas
i mean they they've got some options there hunter
henry's not the worst pass catching
tight end ever so
they had some flexibility there yeah
all right let's get to the sounds at 630
stun up Vegas uh david
david david david tried to call yesterday
and we yeah it's what it is understand him
and step and spring branch let's get some astrosar we got in
like you six o'clock maniacs
mani guys are awesome yeah
you're the best. 713212-5-790.
7-13-212-5-7-90.
The sounds at 6.30.
What's going on that you missed from last night, perhaps?
And now, Matt and Ross bring you sounds at 630.
And we will go to Texans' practice yesterday,
where D'Amico Ryan's was not pleased.
Right, for us, the way we practice is not good enough.
Today wasn't good enough from the standpoint.
of how we moved to football, it wasn't good enough.
And I challenge our guys to make sure we pick it up and operate that way.
So we got a lot to improve upon.
We're not there yet.
Still got a lot of work to do.
And for me, I think it's a culmination of guys coming off on the off days.
You're trying to get back into the swing of things.
And it starts with us as coaches.
Our coaches got to have the guys ready to play.
They've got to have the guys ready to practice, got to bring great energy so we don't waste days.
And so we got a lot, again, to improve.
Bronlott to make up after today.
To me, Rossi, that's
this is dog days at training camp.
Oh, okay.
We're trying to figure out what music to play
underneath the sounds of 630. We'll figure it out.
We'll figure it. Work in progress. Yeah, oh yeah.
We're just a work in progress. We're like
in the kitchen. We're all a work in progress. Oh, my God.
We've been working in progress for a long time.
Back to my point. He was just grumpy because
the guys are like, I'm sick of being out here in this heat.
Yeah, it's hot. It's hot. Yeah. We got one more.
pre-season game. We're not playing in it.
We're going to get our bodies right.
Everybody's tearing their ACLs.
Dylan Horton tore his Achilles. He's done for the year.
That's not good.
Yeah.
By the team is living for Charlotte today. They'll practice tomorrow with them.
And then Friday, they'll play the Panthers close of the preseason.
So realistically, there is one more going against somebody type practice.
Then they have the game.
And then they won't go into weak mode, but a little more normalcy is that the training camp comes to close.
So I don't read anything into what he said yesterday,
except guys just were having a crappy practice
is going to happen. Demico Ryan's
going to call his guys out. I like that.
But he
overly defends it. This
was not planted but this was
definitely, I think I know what
I want to say to get the guys wrong. He's going to do it
in general for sure. He's not going to call
anybody out by name. He's going to get called
out. He's going to ask a question about C.J.
turning the ball over four times. He's going to be better.
Yeah, and we know that. He's got that
memorized. He's not going to say
this guy. This guy sucks.
It's going to cost us the game, which he did.
All right, what you got for the sound of 630?
I'm going to go with a Dan Laning, Oregon head coach.
Now, there's been a lot of stories.
We haven't talked much about Dayquan Wright, the tight end,
who is going from the NFL to LSU,
which I'm sure Chris Gordy is fully on board with.
By the way, we have an update on that from last night, as a matter of fact.
Okay, great.
I mean, we talked about even before I left for vacation,
Cole Hudson, the offensive lineman, who was in Cowboys Camp,
and now he's back with the Texas Longhorns.
This is happening all over the place
and guys are getting yo-yoed in and out of fifth year of eligibility.
Here's Oregon coach Dan Lannning on NFL players back in college football.
Yeah, I mean, I think there's a lot of negatives that are involved around this.
One, once you go to the NFL, to me, you're in the NFL, you don't get the opportunity to come back.
Two, most of us have built our rosters and you have a limited roster limit now.
So if you invited somebody back to your team, that means you're kicking somebody else off your team, right, to match your roster.
I don't think that's fair to the players that worked all summer, all spring.
and put themselves in position to be ready to work for a team,
you know, to have somebody come back.
But ultimately, you know, it used to be once you had an agent
or once you went and did the combine or once you went to many,
I mean, all those things qualified as you are no longer an amateur,
you're a professional now once you declare for the draft.
So to let any of those players come back, you know, fair or unfair to them.
It's unfair to the sport.
And I think it's unfair to the players that are on current teams, you know,
for those guys to be coming back.
This isn't going to last.
They're going to shut this down.
How?
How?
I don't know.
Because the NCAA, he's getting destroyed in court.
The NCAA says nothing.
So yesterday, as I was telling you in part two of this, the SEC put out this big long statement,
which we'll read eventually.
And to paraphrase, we don't endorse this.
They didn't say LSU, sorry.
They just said, we as a conference don't endorse this.
Yeah.
So I immediately texted somebody that I know and trust in college football.
I said, does this mean that that kid from LSU is going to be able to play?
He goes, yeah, they, just because the SEC says,
we don't believe in, it doesn't mean they're not going to allow it.
Yeah. So that's where we are. The SEC
admonishing
their schools for thinking about it,
but yet not putting any stranglehold on
saying, once you declare for the pros
and go to the combine and get drafted, that you
are not allowed to go back to college.
Yeah, I'm all for guys having eligibility.
I love the transfer portal because if you
can transfer from school to school, a coaches can
transfer from school to school, I got no problem with this,
but going into NFL camp
and getting signed by a team and then
coming back to college is a little much.
And I thought Lemming said a smart thing, too, about the fact that you got to kick a kid out.
Yeah.
Could you imagine?
Well, I mean, Lane Kiffin has got no coooth at all, so he's fine.
He'd have zero issue with kicking somebody out.
But there's going to be some kids that have worked their ass off for months and months and months.
And they're on the outside looking in because some transfer that was in the Vikings training camp is not longer on the team.
Yeah.
Well, did you see it was the there was the defensive tackle who was calling Lane Kiffin out and saying he's showing us.
who he really is and now he just came back to
LSU. He followed
Lane Kiffin.
I know we're happy to have a real coach here at Ole
Miss now.
See you later. Following Lane Kiffin
LSU. Cut the check.
Cut the check. Who is this blonde
by the way? Oh my God.
Jonathan, don't look at me.
I swear to you, I was like, oh my God
this Matt's going to see this woman and
it's going to be a problem. It's going to be a problem. It's 640.
It's Matt and Ross in the morning. It's quick pitch on
MLB Network. Remember the rule
about quick pitch. You ain't a nine. You ain't quick pitch
or anything.
What?
They notoriously hire
attractive women at MLB Network
for the show QuickPitch.
You have to be, Jonathan. You have to be
at least... Let's just say if you're a Little League umpire.
You're not going to make it on the show. You have to be at least an
8. You can't wear mom jeans on the
quick pitch set.
Something's wrong with your brain.
I think we... No, it's not. I'm just a general
normal human beings. Look, I mean, I got
a lot of problems with Matt, but he's not lying.
That was the sound of the 630, so there you go.
Yeah, it's a mess.
It is, I mean, look, I again, no, quick pitch.
College football.
Quick pitch is perfection.
College football.
Look, again, portal I can get with paying.
I get with NIL I'm getting used to.
You cannot go to training camp and then go back to college.
I'm sorry.
That's just ridiculous.
Absolutely ridiculous.
Could you imagine, Ross?
if you and I went back in a time warp
back to say 19, like when I first got in the business
started doing, I was a producer behind the same,
but let's go back to when I was first on the year full time,
like 1995-96.
Yeah.
And I brought you with me,
we were doing a radio show back in 96.
Could you imagine all the things we've talked about
just in the last couple of years?
If I'd have said in 2006, this is going to happen.
You're like, no chance.
You cannot pay the players.
They are getting a scholarship,
and that's fine, no amount of payment.
a great degree at a wonderful university.
That was you.
That was Dylan Gwynn.
That wasn't me.
By the way, why, I was in Yorkshire as I was doing this as well.
Yes.
All right.
Let's try the second time the charm here.
David in Vegas.
Good morning to you, my friend.
Good morning or whatever time of night this is.
How's the phone working today?
Beautiful.
Wonderful.
Well, first of all, thanks for taking my call yesterday and making me the first caller in a new time
format for which I can.
congratulated you on that new time format.
And I don't know how often I'm going to be around for how much of your show because
my sleep patterns are sort of irregular.
That's why I'm joining you now.
But, you know, I just don't know how it's going to go.
But I'm happy for you guys and I'll listen as much as I can.
Well, thank you.
Anyway, what I need from you guys is I need to restore my faith, find a new reason for my faith
in the Astros.
As you may recall, it was about two months ago, I called
up and told you they were buried
down in the standings of both
the wild card and the division at the time
but I said that they were going to make the playoffs
that was my gutfreyla that I put
a wager on it out here in Vegas actually
got better than three to one odds on it
and so I've been riding that and sure enough
you know they crawled their way up to first
place and that wager wasn't looking so bad there
for a while anyway but my
reason for believing
in the Astros at the time I called in I said look
they got three
rock solid starting pitchers
That was Sutter and, you know, and P. Lambert, and I think the third one was Eric Getty.
Actually, had a good month there for a while.
It didn't last very long.
Anyway, so the three good starting pitchers philosophy didn't hold up very well.
But nonetheless, they started winning games, got themselves up in the first place.
So they did it mostly because they hit better than we thought, you know?
What were the fourth best hitting team in the American League?
I got to get to a break.
Let's finish it up.
Okay.
But that's it.
That's not working, obviously.
the hitting thing.
And then I decided the real key was the relief pitching, the middle relief.
That was just rock solid.
And then Saturday and Sunday came along.
Yeah.
I'm sorry you lost your bit.
Thank you, David, for the call.
I appreciate it, my friend.
Thank you.
Yeah, poor David.
He got into Arrogati mania.
Yeah, well.
And then Hunter Brown is coming back.
Remember all that good stuff?
And then they shipped him off to Canada.
And then Mike Burles was going to settle down.
Oh, by way, Jose O'Kee got blitz last night.
Okay, good.
I don't say, oh, good.
But you know what I mean.
By the way, the White Sox didn't care about him.
It was the third inning.
He was pitch count was at 80.
It was one of those.
He had to wear that one, huh?
He was like, keep throwing the sweeper because if you throw anything else,
you're going to want to breaking your arm in half again.
Poor guy.
That's how bad my night was.
I watch Rangers White Sox.
It's wrong with me.
And who's in first place now?
Ooh.
That's true.
second place Astros against the Yankees.
We'll have the on deck show at 5 o'clock here on Sports Talks.
The Rangers are 500 and you're behind them.
That is accurate.
After a...
What is this?
121 games?
Wait, 131 games?
We're down the home stretch, my friend.
Good God.
713-212-5-790.
If you're a sixth clap maniac, want to come in and say hello to us, we'd appreciate that.
7-1-3-212-5-7-90.
We've got gut feelings out of this morning.
Ross's NFL rewind, believe it or not, is back on a Tuesday.
Breaking News got us yesterday.
And what the hell are the Astor is going to do the rest of the way with Jeffrey Allen Bagwell as a senior advisor?
Oh, God.
It could be the GM according to Bob Nightingale.
That's another thing we're going to get to.
Boob.
Boob's not doing well.
Another thing that Boob got wrong.
Boob Nightingale, you're speaking up.
Yeah, Boob Nightingale.
Let me make sure I'm very clear when I tell you this.
Okay.
No chance.
No way.
No how.
Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, is Jeff Bagwell going to be the general manager of the Houston Astros?
You promise?
Promise.
Okay.
Bob Nightingale's source?
Jeff Bagwell.
So, let me tell you what he does like.
And this is just kicking the tires a couple places and deductive thinking because Ross, we've been around this organization a lot of
life. Jeff loves
to be the
hey Jeff,
can you kick the tires
on this?
And Jeff,
do you want,
what are your thoughts
on this?
And Jeff,
what do you think about this?
And what would you do
in this situation?
He gets to be
the de facto general manager
without having the tag.
And he doesn't have to put the hours.
Look,
Jeff Bagwell has no interest
in putting a suit on,
working eight to five,
scouting,
assembling a draft boards,
building draft boards,
managing money.
He's going to maybe have a salary
Capologist.
Who,
Jeff Bagwell is your capologist?
He and he and Craig are senior advisors to Jim Gray.
But Craig goes to the ball yard, sits around the batting cage and says, hey, what's going on?
Yeah.
He gets in, gets out.
Yes.
Jeff gets to hang around because Jim ask him to.
And I'm going to assume that Jim pays Jeff very, very well for doing such a thing.
a nice little consultant fee.
Yeah.
So he ain't going to change who he is.
Why would he want?
Are you kidding me?
Jeff Bagwell wouldn't want none of that smoke.
He's getting enough smoke as it is being the senior advisor.
He ain't want the smoke of being a general manager.
So Boob got that wrong too.
He still got that in the story.
That it's possible they could turn to Bagwell if he shows strong interest in the job.
That would take basically, I don't know, the sun no longer shining.
Okay.
there will be a 5.0 earthquake in Houston
before Jeff Bagel will get to the general manager's job.
I hope you're right.
There is,
I shouldn't say never a chance,
but how can I tell you there's no chance
without being like a 0.1% chance?
I guess I could say that way.
Virtually no chance.
Virtually no chance.
It would be a Fred G. Sanford heart attack moment.
Snowball in hell.
Correct.
Now snowballs can make it.
Good.
I say bring back a whole pack of nerds.
a whole pack of them.
Well, the reality is this.
With spreadsheets.
The reality is that's all you may be able to get
because I don't know if the Astros' reputation
is taking a little bit of a blender over this.
It's an attractive job.
You have an owner who medals.
You got Jeff Bagwell in everyone's ear.
You can't go over the tax.
You have him having to get involved in all these trades.
Who knows how involved Jim Crane was in the Dikin job
in the EMI and Dikin deal.
We don't know.
so somebody will take the job there's only one of 30 so you you you will find somebody you will find a bunch of candidates of varying levels of quality and dorkness and dorkness and again i say maximum dork
and i'll tell you that dork is hired we are going to open walk him with open arms i do wish him was the very best let's go yeah we need a good general manager that's all there is to it Steve is on 7 o'e Steve good morning
Steve, you're on.
Oh, hey guys, sorry.
I'm walking here.
Yeah, what about, give me a second here.
So the other team, hold off, I'm here.
Yeah, okay.
You're here, old ten.
Hold on.
Give me a second.
Yeah.
Give me a second.
Yeah, sure, why not?
Okay.
The only teams that have ever made the playoffs,
having a losing record in the division,
would be 81 Royals,
when a strike season
and then in 2020
with the Brewers
and the Astros of the COVID-60
game seasons. I think...
Yeah, the 2010 Seahawks also at 7 and 9,
Steve.
There you can. I'm talking about baseball.
Oh.
So I think the Astros can make it.
I think they could still
literally lose with a loser.
I mean, yeah, that is possible, yes.
Yeah.
But I think
we keep a spotter.
Maybe that's how it goes.
I think
he gets the hook too, but I think
out of the way, whether he does or not,
I think we do miraculously
make the playoffs. It's just a prediction,
kind of like your Vegas guy called.
Maybe it makes the bad here. I think we make the playoffs
with a losing record now.
Even if that happened,
a spot it needs to go
anyway, because I think we'd probably lose in the first round
of the playoffs. Though I'd hope
we wouldn't, and maybe even
make the second round. But I just, I think
we put a lot of games
in the season, obviously, when we got about
30 left.
You know, I think
in a way the aster's
have earned it, I think they're
actually going to make it happen.
As you related to Badwell
real quick, I mean, what about him being the coach?
Okay, we're going to
end this here. We love you, Steve.
Thank you very much. But that call was all
over the place.
That's hitting the flask early.
Let me tell you, thank you.
But, man,
you were like an amazing,
you didn't know which direction to go.
Yeah. People driving around Houston this morning.
of y'all y'all we're like steve turn left don't turn right wait a second turn left turn right
back took back go behind hit reverse he's carpooling with his friend jim beam believe me he was in a waymo
with jack daniels oh i miss my waymo rides no screw that suck it waymo i don't get out of here i don't
going in circles i don't have to go through the heights anymore because the traffic's not bad in the
morning so they got rid of wamos no i when i was going we were doing the 10 o'clock show i would get
I got you. You got to change here. You can actually stay on the highways now.
Correct, I can. Yeah. You used to call you backdoor Thomas.
No one's called me that ever. In my 54 years of life, there has never been anyone who said, hey, there's back door. I'm sorry, back streets. I just, I misspoke. It's Matt, it's Ross. It's going to be the Matt Thomas show with Ross eventually here. And then we're going to downgrade you completely out of it shortly.
713-212-5-790.
Astros open up in second place and the Texans, I think, get a steal.
That starts the second hour.
Matt and Ross in the morning on 790.
This is Matt and Ross in the morning.
703 in H-town.
Good morning.
Hour 2, Matt and Ross in the morning.
This is Sports Talk 790.
Sunshine.
Shout out to my yard
Who has not seen rain
Over two weeks
That's a shame
There's a massive drought everywhere, right?
It's terrible, except in the northeast
Where they've had just
An amazing amount of storms
Yeah, it's either too much or too little
We're getting more and more extreme, it seems like, the weather
Now, I'm just telling you as an experience
And Ross and I'm not talked about this
Music to me in the morning has to kind of get you ready for the day
Yes
So we're always going to be playing some fun music
Energy? Okay.
Yeah.
Including the greatest rock band of all time.
I always say the greatest pop band of all time, certainly.
All right.
What about here comes the sun?
I thought maybe you'd go with that.
We will eventually.
A little darling.
Yeah, we will.
Here comes to some.
Maybe it's a jam.
It's actually better.
This is not bad either.
Turn this up a little bit.
Here we go.
What time is?
Has the sun risen?
I'm still learning how to navigate my apartment in the dark.
What time is this morning?
I'm like, what the hell?
I've got to turn these lights on and I've got to turn them off on the way out.
Too much.
It's fine.
Happy to be here.
Happy to be here.
Oh, my gosh.
This is our second hour.
No technical blemishes at this point.
Knock on whatever this is.
I actually got my McDonald's steak bagel.
Yes.
They actually answered.
No, I'm coming after McDonald's tomorrow.
8.30.
By the way, we have Kashan booty now wearing Texans gear.
Yes.
I'm going to ask you again, Jonathan.
Do you want to surrender to that hash brown?
I'm looking at this fantasy football.
People are still picking Tankdale.
They have some hope.
I don't have some hope.
It's the whole season, man.
I think he might start the season on IR.
There's what, 17 games?
You can get activated off IR.
You can get activated, yeah.
But he's feeling like a PUP.
PUP you really don't want.
That's going to be six games.
I think he can miss fewer these days.
Yeah, Jonathan and I have a wager about the number of catches
that Tank Dell will have this season.
And I have the under 10.
Nine and a half, yeah.
So if it hits 10, Jonathan wins.
And we started it with a unsweetened tea versus a hash brown.
Yes.
And now we've opted.
We've opted to a full breakfast meal.
And I've had like six people, including Wex, will leave in the over.
So I'm confident.
You know what?
If Texans Wex is on the case, I'm going with Wex.
Texan Wex is going to probably lean towards the other way.
No, he's at practice.
Yeah, but I'm an insider.
He's at practice, bussy the down tape.
Who told you that Kisham booty?
or Bouté.
He named Cajon Booty by name.
Yeah, absolutely I did.
I know.
That's such a big feather in the cat.
I am the insider.
No, you're not.
Yes, I am.
Show me the report where Joe Mixon shot himself in the foot.
We got that coming up too.
Don't worry.
705.
Sports Talk, 7.08's Matt and Ross in a morning.
It's terrible.
Six o'clock maniacs. Thank you for listening.
Yes.
You're seven o'clockers. You guys are just regular people.
No, we appreciate y'all too.
No, I'm saying, but we're just regular.
Oh, okay.
Just call them regular.
Premium plus or something.
Listeners plus.
Premium plus at seven?
And if you're 9 o'clock, you're premium plus.
9 o'clock, you're lazy a.m.
Hey, what do you mean?
Come on.
That's what I was getting up.
I miss it.
My point precisely.
Hey.
All right, let's get to the news of the day.
Astros wake up in second place, starting a series with the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.
Ethan Petco is going to throw it today.
I mean...
How are you feeling?
No, not good.
What do you mean?
Fireball.
and Astros prospect. Ethan Pecco.
His second Major League start is going to be in one of the shrines of baseball.
He's ready to carve him up, baby. He ain't scared.
Yankees minus 140.
Well, Warren's not having that great a year.
What's an Astros wager on that?
Plus 131.
Okay, so that means if you spend 100, you want 131 back.
Yeah.
And we'll tell you more about that on CalShire.
Oh, that's true.
Those are the sportsbook odds.
I'm going to tell you, you can bid better odds on CalShion.
Yeah, we'll have that for you.
All right, coming up.
That's it.
Also, a really bizarre day when it came to the Astros and the reporting, about 825 yesterday morning during this show,
suck-at-a-te-team, that we had word that Dana Brown was out.
Okay.
And then a report from Boob Nightingale shortly after that.
God, I hate calling him Boob because he's just a nice guy.
Yeah, he's like your boy and you keep calling him Boob.
We haven't been boys in a long time.
God, it's got to been.
I don't think I've talked to Bob in over 10 years.
Okay.
We're not bros.
We don't have Facebook friends.
We don't follow each other on Instagram.
You don't?
Nope.
But he's so inaccurate for being a national baseball reporter who's got phone numbers and contacts.
He makes mistakes.
Makes too many.
Give me the analogy.
I can't do it.
What do you mean the analogy?
Is it the beautiful girlfriend you had that just keeps cheating on you once in a while?
I think you're never going to do it again?
I guess we can go with that.
Jonathan, now, G-meter?
A to F? B plus?
C-minus.
Yeah, you know,
cheating is a pretty egregious offense,
but I guess you, I mean, that hurts your credibility.
Yes.
And Bob is hurting his credibility.
Bob hurts his credibility.
So he had...
But he's just flat out wrong on stuff.
It's like he just lies.
Now, is he right in the Astros when damage control,
or were the Astros so adamant about it
that they forced him to go?
go to his Twitter account and say
Update Joe Espada's future
has not been determined. He's your friend
that's telling the story later of like the
confrontation gone in the bar and then he's like
yeah and then it got in his face and then he
backed down man and you're like that
that's not what happened at all.
He's an embellisher. Yes. He's like
he's just making stuff up.
And Jim Crane's like, that's not what I
told Bob Nightingale at all.
Do you understand? You understand
that the two most important women in my
life are master embellishers?
Okay.
My mother and my wife.
Hmm.
They say you marry your mom.
I'm just saying, every time they tell a story, they add stuff to it that doesn't, that's not true.
Now, not necessarily not true, but exaggerate.
Did you see what that cashier did?
It's like, yeah, she just took your card and, no, did you see that?
No, I didn't notice it.
Is that what you're talking about?
Man, we, the traffic is so bad.
We were on I-10 for 50 minutes.
It was more like 25.
Yeah, okay.
I got you.
To add to the story.
I'm down the street and they're like 10 minutes away.
That's being real.
Point being, I think Bob's a terrible embellisher.
Now, the question is, did somebody in the Astros office speak out of turn?
This is the thing, though.
It's not even necessarily about embellishing.
It's like either this happened or it didn't.
He's saying, the yesterday is flat out inaccurate.
That's right.
He's saying Joe Espada was approached by the organization to either,
stay the rest of the season and be gone or just be gone now and he chose to stay like that either
happened or it didn't there's not a whole lot of gray area there all right so let's let's stop right there
how does that how does that happen let's put everybody everybody treats their job differently
ross if our bosses may this never happen but if brian ericsson or chris cordy came in and
said ross um you have a contract and yes when it runs out in December we're not
resigning you. Say later.
That's my point.
I'm still getting paid? Why in the, of course you were
your contract. Oh, hell yeah, I'll see you later.
Why in the world would you stay?
To maybe. Because these, I know Joe Espada
would. Professional. Absolutely. I
believed that from
Joe Espada, just knowing the character he is
that he is, how much he loves
those players, how much he lives and breathes
for Jose Altovae and everyone else
in that clubhouse and
all those guys. I 100
would believe that Joe Espotted would be given the option and then choose to stay because that's the kind of guy he is.
And frankly, if he gets the team to win the division and he is going to still look for a major league managerial role somewhere else,
he can put that on his resume that I did help the Astros.
I was the manager of record for a full 162.
But more times than not, if someone says we're not keeping you through the end of the year, you are, yeah, you're out the door.
you're like, you know what, pay me goodbye.
Maybe that's what Dana did do.
Maybe Dana was presented the same situation.
Perhaps.
And he's like, I'm going to wine country.
So not only did you have that,
where Joe had to basically had to refute that
and the Astros had to refute that,
but then you had in the story
that Bob thinks that Jeff Bagwell's a serious canon
for the general manager's job.
I don't believe it under any circumstance, that's accurate.
I don't believe.
Now, it's the interesting going back
and hearing the way he phrased it.
He basically said if Jeff Bagwell's interested, which we don't think he is.
Could there be maybe a world where Jeff Bagwell pushes for the job?
And Jim Crane's like, okay?
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't think so.
But Jeff Bagwell's hung around the organization longer than we thought.
Jeff Bagwell loves being a senior advisor.
I don't think it's necessarily Jeff telling me that.
I think that's by his actions.
Jeff Baguel made a lot of money in his life.
He's talked about it.
Because Craig Bisho, he does commercials and plays golf.
He was doing interviews recently talking about his battle with alcohol.
addiction, which thankfully he's gotten through and he's been sober and how Jim Crane has helped him
through that. And with this job with the Astros, it's given him some purpose. And for that,
excellent. Yes. That doesn't necessarily mean you to me, I mean, it feels like, and again,
if Jim, if Jim wants to tell us otherwise, I feel like that he's a right-hand man to him. Yeah.
And that, the right-hand man is the track record is not good. It's not. I understand Jim wants to be more
hands on because things got out of control
with Luno and the cheating scandal and
I mean there was the Brandon Tom and stuff
there was other reports
the code breaker thing with Jeff Luno
and Jim Crane's like that ain't happening ever
again so I understand that
but man you gotta hire
people you can trust as well
can't be meddling
every little thing
that's why maybe this job isn't
nearly as sexy for the next general manager
where there's reports like he's instructing
you can't you can't trade anybody off the major league
roster, stuff like that.
I guess the end of the question, to be fair, is how many other owners would do that?
You can't tie your general manager's hands behind his back.
Dana Brown didn't have a whole lot of authority, it felt like, outside of the draft.
To wrap us up here, the only player to me that had significant trade value to get better,
you weren't, you could move Walker, you could.
You could, you could, let me wait at first base.
You could put on here.
You could, but I mean, not kidding.
So right there, that doesn't help, right?
Blue ball
Would be Blueball
So we're talking about
Protecting A.J. Blue Ball
AJ Blue Ball. Untouchable.
He's got to feel good about himself.
He's been a pretty good season.
Yeah.
I mean, used a lot. I mean, a lot.
I'd love me some Blue Ball. Go with the high socks.
714. It's Matt and Ross in the morning.
It's 713-212-5-7-90.
7-1-3-212-5-7-90.
We'll go to the phones next.
Plus, the Texans made a significant move.
Ross said they got them some booty.
And it's going to be great.
I knew you were going to do that.
You know, I got that from.
You.
Me?
Yeah, I saw your tweet.
I don't know what you're talking about.
Yeah, you knew.
That's why you shouldn't follow at Sports RV.
715 on 790.
10 minutes.
Texans.
I'll tell you what.
I have a feeling.
We have gut feelings at 8.30, but I got a really gut feeling on this early that this is going to be a sneaky top.
five acquisition for Nick Casero as his general manager of the team.
I love this move.
You're on board with Nick Casario and the Texans?
Yeah.
I'm shocked.
No, it's not shocking.
Because you called it.
Right, Johnny, he's showing some bias or something like that.
By the way, sources close to the show.
Don't give up my sources.
Don't do that.
Why are you giving out sources?
Wow.
All right.
Why are you giving on sources?
I'm not giving on sources.
Yeah, you were about to say something.
I'm saying sources, my sources, close to the show.
All right.
Well, if that guy wants to come on and announce himself, he can.
No.
Fraud.
No.
You're such a fraud.
What being is this, you know what?
There are two few people in this town that will tell it the way it is when it comes to Texans.
Okay.
Everybody's...
Ooh, I almost did it.
I'm trying to not do that.
Don't do it.
I didn't do it.
Excuse me?
Don't say C&D.
All right.
When things go wrong, we have to point them out.
But when things go right, you have to do it too.
Because if you hate on everything, then you're Adam Clinton.
Well, yeah.
So I'm not...
Yeah.
on everything, Texas.
Your Texan's hater number one.
What did I just say?
What did I just say?
You said they made a good move.
Not great.
I think it's a potentially a great move.
Okay, good.
I am, if I'm a Texan fan this morning,
I am thrilled that you should be.
Kishan Booty, who was crushing you in the playoffs.
Yeah, it's going to touchdown, I think, too.
Yeah.
Let's go the phones.
Mark and Sharps Town at 722.
Good morning, Mark.
What's up, Matt and Ross?
Yeah.
Y'all make me laugh in the morning.
sometimes when I'm trying to wake up.
Sometimes.
We're not doing our job then.
But, okay, so my question is,
if Joe is spotted,
if he gets let go from the end of the season,
do you think Jim Crane's going to,
or if we hire a GM first, obviously, you know,
do you think they're going to look at,
like, Brandon Hyde, Rob Thompson,
or somebody that will, like, run,
run the team because I know they're like in their 60s and one of them 50s, something like that.
They're veterans and they know like how to run the team property because my favorite suggestion, you know,
is Brandon Hyde because I know he's, I think in his 50s, you know, I feel like he can run the team good.
I think that was a big mistake the Orioles did though by letting him go because, I mean, like,
How could you let go of a guy that's, like, more, like, hyped up?
But anyways, like what you said yesterday on the GM shirt, search, you know,
I'd be glad to have AJ Hinch back as the GM, you know.
You know, I'm just saying, you know, like, I hope he comes back or some point, but I doubt it.
But, I mean, yeah.
Yeah, we get you, Mark.
Thank you, Mark.
Appreciate it.
Um, Hyde is an interesting name.
Had a couple good season with the Orioles.
I'm just looking out.
Now, I didn't know this.
He had some experience in baseball offs with the Tampa Bay Rays, which I like.
Maybe he's got some kind of analytics background, which I'm all, I'm going to just go ahead and say it.
Like any kind of manager or general manager, whoever, I'm all in analytics.
It's 2026, folks.
So I like using the numbers.
You have them in front of you.
You should be using them.
So I don't know how analytically minded he is.
obviously fired earlier last year by the Orioles when they were disappointing and then things
didn't turn around for the Orioles from there.
But he was, he was their manager when they won 100 games.
And then Thompson, of course, the manager of the Phillies when they went to the World Series in 2022.
Yeah.
I have absolutely zero opinion.
Okay.
I mean, the reality is this.
Oh, it's a catch for that.
I got to stop saying that so much.
Here's the thing with that one.
Hey!
Any good leader when you let go away somebody below.
you or that person leaves has a right
desk drawer that has a group
of resumes or names of lists.
Jim Cranes got that list.
Anybody in any part
of his business, he's got that list of people
that he would go to.
So since we're not privy to that list and we don't
have a keep of list because we're not hiring managers,
I have no idea. It could be
old school. It could be the hottest
hitting coach in sports. It could be a
minor league coach who's killing it.
I don't think you'll go to the
college route.
But for me, even speculate, first of all, Joe Spotted still the manager of the team.
To be respectful to him, I'm not going to.
I would imagine Omar Lopez would be considered.
I don't know how much he would, but he's got a relationship with the players.
And obviously, Jose Altuve won the WBC as the manager there and just has a lot of experience and knowledge of the organization.
Outside of that, I mean, yeah, I don't even know who all the hot candidates would necessarily be.
Not that I want to give you an answer.
I just, A, I don't have a list and B, I got to have to, you know, it's going to be up to the
manager, it's going to be up to Jim and to Jeff, frankly.
I mean, and the general manager, if that hired, boy,
yeah, I, this is hard because, I mean, I like Joe and I don't want Joe to lose his job,
but man, the, the Nightingale story yesterday just didn't do him any favors.
It just didn't.
And even if it's not true, those guys, guys mean the guys in the clubhouse.
They're not going to, like, not play hard for him.
But, again, if you have a lame duck as your leader, you're going to take things with a
grain of assault.
That's just human nature.
Yeah.
Oh, and another thing, by the way, with.
the managerial search,
you might be okay for a little while.
You probably want to get a guy in place, I guess.
Might not be a pressing matter.
Well, I'll say this.
Do you think that in the general,
we can know this for the general manager search.
Do you think it will be,
I think it will be absolutely very important
to get this hired done very quickly.
Yeah, apparently it's staggering around.
Yeah, especially because you don't want any
Raphael-Montaro and Jose Abraeu-type deals getting done.
By the way, if they go to a lockout,
obviously you can have no communication with anybody on your 40-man roster.
If you have guys in a minor league system, they can play baseball.
There will be a minor league season next year.
It's guys in a 40-man that cannot be a part of anything.
And on top of that, there's no business, there's no free agency, there's no, you can hire
managers, I can hire general managers because that's happening on that side of the fence,
the baseball operation side.
But everything in terms of free agency trades,
That all gets to a grinding halt until we've got ourselves a new CBA.
I saw a tweet yesterday, and I wish I would have saved it to give credit.
Somebody had said, at least they're talking every day.
We're in years past Ross, they aren't talking.
And they were so mad at each other.
They were just running to their various news websites to put out these terrible, mean statements about how the other side's not playing fair.
That's what I said.
I've been hopeful, is that at least they've been negotiating, at least starting now, rather than drawing their lines in the sand.
Still, I think they're pretty far apart
on where they want to meet in the middle, but...
I'm encouraged they're talking, but
I'm still not helpful. I think
we're in for some sort of...
I think people around baseball are
preparing for it, too. You still want to do the
60... What were we going to do? 61 and a half games,
or 59 and a half games?
I think it's got to be...
60 game season means
I win. Sixty-one means you win. So
60-half? Okay, we're going to bet.
A tunky?
Let's do breakfast. This is.
we're in breakfast
We're in breakfast mode.
Breakfast?
Okay, we're in breakfast mode for sure.
We're in breakfast mode.
We can go get 10 o'clock.
No,
I don't want to make it that big.
Eggs Bennett.
Absolutely.
I don't know if I'm ready to wager that much.
Oh, come on.
I get you a breakfast.
I get you one breakfast taco.
We got a half an hour to get there.
All right.
Breakfast tacos.
We got, no, what do you mean half an hour?
Oh, we go next door?
Okay, that's fine.
Breakfast tacos?
No, no, we're not going here.
These are nasty.
Oh, well.
They're,
they went their courteous service of the day.
neighborhood deli 728
Jonathan's like man I eat that breakfast every day what do you talk about
it's good to me yeah see
Anderson coming off the edge May steps into it takes a shot down field
and caught for the touchdown Kayshaun Booty
wow
pretty amazing job great throw outstanding catch
by Kishon Booty that's some of the things that we've seen from him
throughout this season and what has been a play
breakout year.
Oh, Mark
Vander, we're going to be doing a lot of that.
Rock and roll, Kisham Boone.
Got a feeling hit.
735, Matt and Ross, in the morning.
Don't shake your head.
7.1.
I got sources. I got sources.
Don't be mad. You don't get those damn sources.
713-212-5-790.
Okay, so let's
think about this. You made a
trade with the Patriots yesterday.
You gave him a seventh round pick
and you gave him one of your
many extra members on the defense
who wasn't going to play this year, right?
You got rid of a J-E-G-G-Lan.
The depth safety.
So, let me ask you this.
Why did the Patriots do this?
They need safety debt, and there was no market for
Kishon Booty.
So
Kisham Booty
who was a third receiver for them
is now firmly entrenched.
By the way, for those of you that are Xavier Hutchison
Truthers, I think this basically with the two receivers.
There are Hutchinson truthers?
Stop.
Jonathan's a Xavier Hutchinson truther?
As in what?
He's like, he's a legit number two?
He was like, nobody, we don't ever bring him to any other.
Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa.
He got him in the Pro Bowl, Jonathan?
No, no, no, no.
You got a gold jacket for Xavier Hutchinson?
He's trying to slant in my name because it's bet.
Look, all I was saying is I'm staying strong with the bag.
He can't get it.
I think Tandale's going to have a shot to get at least 10 catches.
It's a whole season.
Okay.
What he was saying you're Xavier Hutchinson guy.
I mean, Xavier Hutchinson is a perfect fourth receiver.
He can block a little bit.
He can get open a little bit.
He can play the X.
He can play the Y.
But you were looking for a big receiver and you got one because Xavier, I don't think
was, or Xavier or whatever, is not the guy that they think can do the job.
No, well, Xavier Hutchinson's in last year.
12 yards of catch, 428 yards, three touchdowns.
Booty last year.
551 yards, six touchdowns.
touchdown 16.7 to catch.
So, yeah, a slight upgrade.
Sterling Shepard,
Zay Jones are here.
Those are just guys, right?
Hey, I like Zay Jones.
If he could stay healthy.
Okay.
But this Kishon booty is going to be...
Ooh, Zay Jones is 31 now?
Never mind.
I'm out on Zay Jones.
So you're saying a 31-year-old
receivers cannot stay healthy.
Yeah, I thought he was a little bit younger,
but I was wrong.
You call him 30 old?
31 and for receivers, yes.
I'm sorry.
That's like 160 and dog.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
If you're a morning show host, it's young.
Sprite.
Oh, okay.
It's different.
Different.
Different.
NFL, you're slow and you need like a wheelchair to go on the field.
Exactly.
Again, if I'm Patriot fan and I'm really dig deep in the weeds of being a Patriot fan,
I'm not thrilled about sending a team that was searching for a number two receiver to potentially
have a number two receiver.
Yeah, okay.
Well, he's Kashon Booty, though.
I mean, it's not like he's some unstoppable force.
I don't think you should be that worried about it.
Nice pickup.
Okay.
Last year, 33 catches in 14 games, a year before, 43 catches in 15 games.
He's never had a 600-yard season.
I mean, it's Kayshawn Booty.
It's not an earth-shattering move.
I'm higher on Booty than you are.
Yes.
Okay.
That's fair.
I just love...
Yeah, you love Booty.
Yeah, I think he's, as you just heard, the highlight there, has made some plays.
you can run him in option plays, you can ender rounds.
And oh, by the way, it's his contract year.
And so guys tend to rise the occasion of wanting to get paid.
The good news is why he was unhappy New England because he saw what, AJ was, AJ Brown's there now and other folks are there.
I mean, there's AJ Brown, Romeo Dobbs.
I mean, yeah, Mario Douglas.
There's a, there's a log jam.
And he was, now, part of that also makes you think, to your point, if he's a log jam, he's getting pushed down that list.
Yeah, because he's not good.
enough. I mean, they didn't
trade for an all pro.
I still think it's a sneaky great pick.
I like it. First of all, yes.
If Nick, if you're listening, shout out
to you, my friend. I like the pickup, but it's
not some steel of the century in Kashan Bouty
is going to the Pro Bowl. I don't think.
If he is, it's great. Then even better.
So, and you know how much
Nick loves draft capital. Yeah.
Give us a seventh round. My God.
Who cares? Yeah.
Take flyers on guys.
Seventh round picks, I mean, don't even make the team
half the time.
It's a future mystery irrelevant or something on that squad.
Yeah, exactly.
Okay, so Texans are going to head to Charlotte today.
And we'll take on the Panthers on Wednesday.
CJ Stroud versus Bryce Young.
In practice?
Nope.
Yeah, I'll say practice only.
On the back fields in somewhere beautiful Charlotte, North Carolina.
As far as the game is concerned, man, you know what?
You feel bad for NFL people that have to pay the preseason game.
first of all, any of them.
But especially the third one.
That's everyone now.
At least you got one drive of C.J. Stroud
in game two in the starting
offensive line, but that was it.
It went and got a touchdown.
Woody Mark's got a touchdown and they were out of there.
Is that the greatest injustice
in pricing for sporting events?
Probably.
Because if you go to spring training games,
the ticket prices are dramatically dry.
Yeah, you go to minor league.
you bet best seed in the house for like 30 bucks.
NBA preseason games,
they dynamic price NBA games typically.
Oh, very dynamic.
So I'm sure.
Oh, Lakers in town, guess what?
You better get a loan.
It won't be the Lakers this year.
Maybe the Sixers, the one appearance.
But point being is that I don't know how the Rockets charge,
but I'm going to assume that a Rockets,
they have won preseason home game against Oklahoma City.
It's going to not cause you the same as, say,
even a lousy game like Washington.
Yeah, better not.
So, but you could charge full price for NFL preseason.
And it's terrible.
It's, I'm embarrassed for the NFL.
I'm embarrassed for the season ticket holder who spends thousands and thousands of dollars
that have to pay full price for that crap.
And that's why the best thing would be for them to go to two preseason games,
go to an 18 game schedule like they want to do all the way through,
and end this mess.
No, we don't need 18.
17's enough.
17's already too many.
Week 17 starting quarterback's like, dude, you never even heard of.
Week 18, and I still think, and this is just, this is a, this is an OG gut feeling.
Okay.
Two by weeks or off weeks.
And I'm going to.
And I'm also going to say that maybe if you go to 18 weeks and it's really a point of contention of guys getting hurt, maybe you can only play a maximum of 17 games a year.
That would make at least a little bit more sense.
Where you'd potentially have to put people out,
which means you'd have to put some additional value in all of your backups,
which would include a quarterback.
And then the question would be, actually, you know what it is?
Now that more I think about it, it's an interesting puzzle piece.
When do you use your backup?
You certainly don't want to do it in December when you're trying to gain a playoff spot
or trying to secure a playoff seating.
No.
Do you burn it?
Like, for instance, let's take a look at the Texan schedule.
would you, you would send Davis Mills out there against Cleveland, would you not?
That'd be the chalk pick.
Exactly.
I think it sounds cool in theory, but I think once you go down and you look at, like, remember, like, when we're in week 18, we're not like, this is awesome.
Watching Trey Lance and Mitchell Trabisky battle it out.
But see, if I have to burn a game off for CJ, I'm doing it against a game earlier in the year because I might need CJ in week 18, if it matters anything.
Mm-hmm.
So, look, it's a matter of time.
Do you really believe that, like, you are steadfast in.
I think they should have stayed at 16.
There's a 24-game, 24-team team CFP coming.
I'm telling you, we're going to get 18 games.
I'm not steadfast.
Really?
No.
I'm not steadfast at anything.
You said there would never, ever, ever be more than 20.
That's me.
And to tell the truth, and literally the next week they proposed 24.
So I don't know.
I'm steadfast on that one.
They call him Mr. Steadfast on that.
24 it is.
That's fine.
It's never going to happen.
No, I'm more flexible.
on that. I don't want 18 games.
I don't want 2014
playoff, but yeah, what's going to happen?
They need more money. They're getting
all these checks from Netflix and
Amazon Prime and Peacock and everybody.
They want better matches. Yeah, you get another week
of top matchups. So, of course,
they're going to want to do that. You know what you
could do, too? You really want, you really want to
go gonzo. You could sell
a week 18
and then chart and then
spend, have one network by it, play every game.
You know, I remember,
It was a member of Peacock had a baseball game earlier this year where every game was on Peacock.
Week 18 passing leaders.
Riley Leonard's up there.
Mitchell Trubisky.
Tyler Shuck.
Jacoby Brissette.
Tanner McKee.
But there were also teams that were trying to grab playoffs, Bosch.
You forget about them, too.
So don't forget them.
All right.
We got to get to Jed York.
Queen Ewers.
Hey, that's Trey Lance, Josh Johnson.
Ooh.
Yeah, Week 18 is a thriller.
You watched it.
I mean, for my fantasy leagues, I didn't watch Red Zone.
You didn't watch any week 18.
No, you didn't watch Red Zone.
Fantasy football was over with.
Oh, yeah, you're right.
Fantasy football was over with.
All right.
On my DFS mat lineups.
If you've not heard of Jed York, you're about to hear him next.
We have a poll question up on our Instagram account.
Yeah, go to our Instagram, Sports Talk 790.
We'll discuss why we're doing it.
Follow me at Sports RV.
It's on my story, too.
I'd appreciate that.
I'm 15 away from 1700.
Really?
At Sports RV.
Good for you.
Yeah, our video yesterday is doing very well.
Yeah.
It's got like 500 likes, 17,000 views.
And by the way, I do know that AJ Hinch is under contract.
Okay, I was just throwing a name out there.
I don't know, Matt.
You know that?
I'm angry.
You're happy with you.
No, they're not.
People are very angry with you on social media.
And me too.
We're just throwing opinions out.
Can we try to read folk?
Never mind.
I'm going to do it later.
I got some Nymrods out there arguing me about it.
Oh, what a simplistic viewpoint of bringing E.
Yeah, some guy called me a moron.
and I was about to call him a name.
Then I went to his profile
and he's out there calling everybody name.
So he's clearly just not happy with his life.
So I just left it on.
Yeah, I hope you're going to car accident.
Yeah.
I didn't say that.
I did.
Hi, my name is Ross.
Matt said he hopes you get in a car accident.
I mean, I want you to survive,
but if he broke your leg, it's no big deal.
A single car.
Single car accident with a broken leg.
Maybe a spring shoulder.
What's wrong with you?
Be nice to me and we'll be super nice back to you.
But if you're mean to me...
I'll be nice to you.
You'd be mean to me.
You're going to...
You're going to catch them.
You're going to catch it.
Catch these hands.
Oh, God.
Look at these hands.
These hands.
By the way, why am I getting Elmo suggested reels when I go click on Facebook?
I have a new friend, by the way, on the Instagram world.
Oh, God. Is it Kermit?
No, it's this woman who gets in her car and screams.
Uh-huh.
Let me guess she's...
Would you like to know who it is?
At least a C-cup.
No, she's...
I would not say.
she's overly attracted, but she's very, very funny.
I knew this was going to happen.
Shout out to Save Me Style Now.
She's on Instagram.
She's very funny.
All right.
Jed York chatter.
Our buddy Ryan and Montgomery hangs out.
We will get to you in mere moments.
Niners owner Jed York pleaded
no contest to a pair of misdemeanor charges on Monday
after being arrested in Ohio on suspicion of engaging in prostitution.
According to court records,
obtained by ESPN. York allegedly responded to an undercover ad on an unknown prostitution website
and, quote, arranged to have sexual activity with the female in exchange for $140.
York is arrested upon arriving at the meeting location with a cell phone used to arrange the meeting,
according to the records.
He arrives Sunday night 935 at the Wheat Hill mobile home community.
East Palestine.
Wheat Hill?
Weed Hill.
The Wheat Hill Hookers.
Is that going to be your fantasy team name?
East Palestine Police assisted the Mahoney Valley Human Trafficking Task Force.
Oh, dear.
Oh, they got a task force involved?
They got a task force on his ass.
Authorities initially charged York with a misdemeanor counts of engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools.
The former charge was amended to misdemeanor disorderly conduct as part of a plea agreement resolving the case according to court records.
The NFL sent a statement that the league is, quote, aware of the matter which will be reviewed under the personal conduct policy.
Robert Kraft says this is no big deal.
Robert Kraft says, welcome to the club.
Chad, you're 140 bucks in the trailer home.
So our Instagram poll question of the day is, how did he pay for it?
My belief is when you're a billionaire, you only carry hundies with $100 bills with you.
You have 20s?
No 20s.
Yeah, but what if you got to, like, you know, tip the doorman or the valet or whatever?
You probably got 20s on you.
My vote is too hard to ask him for change.
Now, Jonathan can be the tiebreaker or maybe he, now there's a number of ways.
Okay, he could have had two huntskies and he asked for 60.
I think he showed up with 102ndies and rather than like 350s and asking for change.
I think that was the only change he had on him.
So he had 200s?
Yeah, he was like here.
So he didn't stop at the ATM?
No, no, no.
Okay.
All right, so you're on that side.
He went to the trailer park.
He's not stopping before an ATM.
He's not thinking straight.
It took him.
Apparently, it was like 40-minute drive.
Exactly.
He's not thinking straight.
He's going right to the trailer park.
He could have stopped at the Valero ATM for five minutes.
No.
And got some Twinkies.
Then he would have thought about his actions.
I've asked you this before.
He was so mega horny.
He couldn't stop at the ATM for five minutes.
He might have been on those rhino pills.
That's where he got him.
At the gas station.
He stopped at the Valero.
ATM, he got some 20s,
he got some blue rhino pills,
and then he's red and rock.
They call it a horny weed, too?
Oh, yeah, it seems like you know a lot
about those, Matt.
Okay.
Are you endorsing them now?
No, no, I'm not endorsing them under any circumstances.
I mean, I would, but I wouldn't use it myself.
I don't need them.
Well, I've asked you this before.
Do billionaires carry ATM cards?
I will say yes.
But I don't know.
Do Cal, Hannah?
No, Hannah carries cows.
Cal doesn't have any cards on him.
You know why?
Cal, Cal, you lose your wallet again?
I told you, Cal,
fell out of his wallet,
his pocket of the Ferris wheel.
Where was he in a Ferris wheel?
He was on the Texas Cyclone.
He's always losing his wallet.
He left it on the counter at the ice cream stand.
Like, he's always losing his wallet.
There's no doubt of my mind.
So he's not a good wallet keeper.
No.
And I think Hannah said put the wall in your front pocket.
He wanted to have a chain, but Hannah's like, no, sir, I will not be seen with you having a wallet on your chain.
Hmm.
You could see that happening.
I don't think for, I don't know if any Fortitas got an ATM card.
I just want a chain.
It looks cool.
No, Cal.
I'll keep your wallet.
I'm going to ask Jim Crane next time.
I'll ask Tillman.
I don't see Tillman.
He's in Italy, but I'll ask you have an ATM card?
No, there's no way Tillman does.
Well, Jim, Jim's a billionaire too.
Tellman's,
Tim,
Tellman's,
everything's taking care for him
in Italy.
He,
he's like literally an ambassador.
But I'm talking about
when he gets back here.
He's not like Jed York.
I would say,
he has a wallet on him, right?
Yeah,
I,
no,
I'm saying that
billionaires carry cash.
Okay.
But somebody gives them the cash.
They're not,
I can't,
have you ever seen
Cal McNair in an ATM machine?
I've seen him at a grill.
That doesn't count.
Okay.
You can't get cash out of the grill.
No,
he just goes to the drive-thru.
I told you,
Hannah handles the finance.
Okay
Jed York
Two $100
Was prepared to spend $200
I think he had $2.20
You got to tip the door man
You got to tip your driver
You got $20.
He's got $20s on him
Not that I know this again
Okay
This is very careful
Not that I know about this
But prostitutes at $140
Seems kind of low
Right Jonathan
I
Why do he
Why do you go straight to Jonathan?
Wow
What he asking me for?
Is a girl listening to the morning shift?
I hope not.
Hey, babe, I don't do none of this.
This is not.
I would, I mean, you would figure a billionaire owner would get the high-priced escort,
a pretty woman style, right?
That's what I'm saying.
He's not thinking.
He just went straight to, it's just...
I'm just going to tell you from my...
He's rocked up in life.
Trailer part.
The millionaires that I've hung out with, listen to me very carefully.
Okay.
The millionaires that I've hung out with in my life.
Uh-huh.
If they want special lady to come by, they go to the hotel.
They're not going to a mobile home park.
This feels like to me that Jed's got some other issues besides trying to hide it.
What do you mean?
Because if you want to make sure that you're not a part of a sting and that you do need a little loving.
Okay.
And you obviously money is no issue.
You pay $3,000 for the highest of highest class.
Maybe he couldn't get that out in the ATM.
See, he only had 140 on him.
He's not going to the ATM.
He doesn't have the card.
What's his daily limit?
I'll ask,
honestly,
is there any of you out there
that no millionaires?
I'm trying to think,
do,
does,
I think baseball players
and professional athletes
have ATM cards.
Yeah,
well,
they have,
okay,
maybe.
But like,
I'm saying he had it on him.
He had two 20s.
Because at 140s seems like a really,
you gotta break hundreds
everywhere and every now and then.
Yeah,
York has clearly assaulted
with an individual
because he's at the trailer part.
So he broke it at a convenience store before.
going to the trailer park a salt of the earth individual
is not heading to the to the trailer
part I'm sorry
I mean like a high flutin billionaire type
he's a regular dude
he's not a regular dude he's a billionaire
he wanted some action he owns the stadium
yeah but didn't he inherit it
yeah they always do most of them do
he gets a contest it I'm worried about him
yeah he should
again Jonathan my advice to you
the East Palestine mobile home if you need
some extra loving send to the hotel
pay the higher
pay the higher surcharge and get some penicillin.
Yes.
And the runoff pills, I guess, whatever I'm saying.
And hopefully.
That's why you had 220s. They broke his hundred at the Valero station.
And hopefully you've got both your kidneys when you're all sudden done.
Yeah.
Come in and carve them.
All right.
Hour three of a Matt and Ross in the morning.
Wow.
Flying by.
We're doing all right.
We got gut feelings coming up in a half an hour where I'm going to hit on the
Kasham Bouté.
I'm going to out you.
You cannot.
Why not?
Because you're a fraud.
No, you don't out sources.
You're a fraud. I'm not outing sources.
I'm outing your fraudulence.
No, that was a source.
Terrible.
713-212-5-790.
7-13-212.
Stop outing me.
7-1-3-212.
5-7-90.
It is Matt and Ross in the morning here on Sports Talk 790.
This is Matt and Ross in the morning.
And you wake up this morning with the Houston Astros in second place.
in the American League West.
That's a segue way, my friends.
Oh, dear.
Rangers last night beat the White Sox
by a score of 11 to 2
means the Astros open up a series
with Ethan Petcoe going today
for the Astros in New York
against the Yankees. It's a six
game road trip
in New York, three with the Yanks,
three with the Mets.
And then we turn the corner
and September comes around
where that month of September
is going to be frisky. We get the White Sox
who are in first place in America League Century.
Tampa Bay, who's at the best ruck in the American League.
You have Philadelphia's in a playoff spot.
Now, you do have Sucky, Kansas City as part of the mix as well, but you also have
that last week of the season with two games in Seattle against the Mariners and four
with the A's who just beat you as part of a three and six homestam.
That's on the agenda today, as we'll get to the third hour of the show, it's Madden Ross.
K. Sean Booty is a Houston Texan after being traded yesterday from New England to
Houston. Texans on a plane today to go to Charlotte to visit with the Panthers for an open
practice tomorrow. They'll have a game Friday. Deshaal Watson, by the way, we would not bring this up
yet today. Apologize for his, well, tone-deaf comments after his performance on Saturday in
their preseason game for the Browns. We'll have that audio for you at the NFL Rewind.
That'll be coming up at 9.30 this morning. The SEC yesterday admonishing those schools in the
SEC for trying to take players from who are released from NFL teams and giving them yet another
year of eligibility. Yeah. The one school that's doing it is LSU and the SEC admonishing,
but not telling LSU you can't have it. Like, hey, we can't really do this, guys. We don't like it,
but we're also not going to stop you and do anything to discourage it. So go ahead and do what you
want. Yeah. And we brought this up a little bit in the last segment. Jed York, the owner of the San Francisco
49ers, arrested for a solicitation.
of prostitution.
He was the Palestine police or assisting something called the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Tax Force.
Okay.
Now, what I've not determined is whether or not this was sex trafficking in this area or this was just a one-off of a, just looking for a prostitute.
So that I'm trying to get to the big thing.
I mean, if it was the task force, I guess it's been happening around the area or they were concerned about it.
My guess is task force want to get rid of prostitution altogether.
Yeah, $140.
First of I get, what a random number, 140?
That's what I'm saying.
Do you start at two?
You get down to 140?
Is that 140 without the tip?
Do you just get to this?
She's like, all right, 175.
It's like, uh, 150.
Are they really negotiating that late in a mobile home part?
140 is a random number.
It is a random number.
This is why I think he had 220s on him.
You don't get to 140 without an accident.
I still submit he had 220s on him.
I think he was just trying to catch a break.
Catch a break.
Looking for change.
How much, how much haggling was there to be done?
I think he won 150.
He was like 100, and then she's like 140.
And he's like, all right, I got a couple 20s.
It's fine.
I mean, do you tip in this situation?
How does this work?
We'll see 140 with a $60 tip makes $200.
It's a keep the change.
Why would you tip?
713, 212.5.
The price is the price, right?
Is this price line?
I'm asking.
I don't know.
I'm asking.
You didn't go to hotels.
Do you get extra for if she goes above and beyond?
Okay.
You know what?
We're trying to keep this.
We got kids in the car right now.
Okay.
Oh, I'm asking questions that need to be answered, okay?
I don't have to be answered.
Sorry, kids, this is real life.
You know what?
You know the kids in a car right now asking why Dana Brown got let go?
Okay.
Well, this isn't a children's program.
That's right.
All right.
You will put it on Disney radio.
Yeah.
So there's our headlines today, by the way.
Thank you.
And we'll have DeShon's apology.
Okay, I'm sorry.
More breakdown of Dana Brown getting let go.
You know, you're, I just think you're doing, you really believe he's carrying 220.
I'm asking the relevant, hard-hitting questions, Matt.
You are.
Nobody in Cleveland's doing that right now.
No, they aren't.
What a mess for Ohio.
Jed York from Youngstown, by the way.
What do you think Niners radio is doing today?
How do you bring that up?
He's from Youngstown, went to Notre Dame, and of course his dad was owner of the 49ers,
and now he's chairman and CEO of the 49ers.
So basically.
Nepo baby, basically.
Yeah.
It's only 46.
Divorcing a divorce his wife earlier this year.
Hmm.
There you go.
He's lonely.
Just go to the hotel.
Well, now he's only got to pay a $150 fine and so order to contact.
So he played down.
All right.
In a serious note, they're moving on other things.
What does the NFL do?
What can they do?
They're going to take draft picks?
I mean, find them, I guess.
No, you can't take insurance.
Yeah.
That's what I'm saying.
What power do they have?
What happened to Robert Kraft for him in the Orchids of Asia Spa?
Anything?
I don't even remember.
I don't remember it making anything.
I mean, you can't, you can't, why would you penalize the team?
You could penalize, now you could say he can't go to games, you could do that.
Yeah, you censure him, I guess, and maybe some kind of fine.
I don't even know.
It is, you know.
Again, I hope this is a one-off of this, did not involve trafficking, because that's a very serious thing.
I hope it was just transaction gone bad and.
transaction gone by that okay right yeah i'm trying to i'm looking at the robert craft story and i'm trying to figure
out you can't force them to sell the team none of that big of an offense oh charges were dropped
against robert craft because i guess they got a legal video or something they said it was so a
technicality okay let's go the phones uh stunner opens up the eight o'clock hour with madden ross in the
morning hi stunner what's up man y'all got to get up we got to get up we got to
got to get up this early to talk to y'all yes sir hey first of all number one it's your fault
man that old boy got caught i'm blamed that on you they got to blame it on you man why's that
is that because normally you waking up the strippers and if you don't want to the stripper
he wouldn't even he wouldn't he wouldn't he wouldn't even he would say hey there's a fake phone call
because they wouldn't ask no phone.
Well, guess what we're doing on Fridays
or we're telling them a good night.
How about that, son, I for that?
Hey, Matt, one other thing.
Yes, sir.
140 is for two, not for one,
because that's a trailer park.
You can get them cheap.
You're not going to spend no $140 on no trailer park
when you can't even get in there?
Oh, no, sir.
No.
What do you mean you can't get in there?
No animal code.
No trailer for.
Thank you for that insight in Stunner.
Sounds like Stunner comes from experience.
He sounds like he's speaking from a lot of experience.
So he said 140s for two.
Two different people?
Or two times?
God.
No, that's just a break.
Stunner is the one that said it.
You know what, I want to go to break.
Good.
If there is any sounder that makes me.
sound really white.
That's it right there.
What up, what up?
That's my favorite one.
I figured you'd like that on the transfer.
Sounds like you're just busted in the door.
What up, what up?
Matt Thomas in the house.
All right.
So as our friend Adam Wexler reported, not reported, but just...
What do you do?
Our Texans insider, Adam Wexler?
No, I'm the one that had Kay Shan booty here.
Not him.
Sorry, Wax.
Yesterday, the Astros woke up in first place in the
American League West, at least tied for it.
Now they're a half game behind because the Rangers
lost or beat the White Sox
and if you look at the
wild card, the Astros are on the
outside looking in for the walled card.
Oh, really? The team with the below 500
records on the outside looking in.
The Yankees is the number one wild card. The Red
Sox are the number two wild card. The Cleveland
Guardians have a half game lead
on the Astros. The American League is
an abomination. My gosh.
The Cleveland Guardians at 66
and 66 are the third wild
card. That's embarrassing. The Astros are 65 and 66. The half game out.
All can be changed tonight. If Ethan Peckgo goes six strong.
We have gut feelings coming up in 10 minutes and I'm kind of begrudging this one.
Why? Because I have a forecast for the Astros series and I'm not looking forward to announcing.
Okay. I like that. I'm looking forward to it. So if you have any sports predictions you'd like to make in the next 10 minutes standby for that, we will take your calls on that. It's gut feelings every Tuesday morning.
at 830 on Sports Talk 790.
Let's go to the phones and talk to Mack in Pearland at 821.
You're out with Matt and Ross in the morning.
Hello, Mac.
Good morning, y'all.
Have you ever had the pleasure or displeasure of being in Youngstown, Ohio?
I have never been to Youngstown, Ohio, my life.
Tell me all about it.
It's kind of a nasty place.
It's the kind of a place where if you drive into a convenience store to get gas,
You better have a card or small change because nobody's going to break 100 in that part of the world.
So that answers some of your questions.
What if you buy a big stack of rhino pills?
They still won't make change for it, so it had to be a pretty big stack.
Probably, you know, more than selling.
Yeah, I think he was ready to roll.
So basically you're saying there's very little petty cash in Youngstead, Ohio.
Okay.
All right.
Thanks for the update on that.
is correct. So 140 in Youngstown
is like 500 bucks elsewhere.
I think
that's a fair statement, yes.
Which is maybe why he's doing
it for the value.
You know billionaires like to find a good value.
Go ahead.
We need to switch because I'm twisted and I'm afraid of
what I'll say. But
what?
Have you noticed that the last two general
managers have been
rookies, not experienced, right?
I'd never been general
managers before, that's correct.
So what experienced, intelligent general manager is going to want to come here knowing that
he won't be able to run his own house?
That's a fair question.
It is.
Thank you, Mack, for the phone call.
What is the pool going to be of candidates?
Because right now, whether it's fair or not, and this is media-driven, unless you got
bros around major league baseball that are calling each other.
The media driven is the last two general managers,
one left after winning a World Series,
and one, despite the fact that the American League is a hot mess,
left his team in first place.
Now, logically thinking, this is not a first place team.
We know that.
We've talked about this all season long.
It has not performed like a first place team.
And most notably, it really was awful this past week.
Yeah, they're not a good baseball team.
They're mid.
The farm system's okay.
But there's nothing remarkable that Dana did that you could say,
no.
This is a guy that needed to have another year on the job.
What was the big master stroke move?
His whole tenure.
You mentioned the Cucci thing.
Maybe Peter Lambert's signing, I guess.
He's going to win the Kyle Tucker trade.
He is.
I still think Cam Smith, you're right.
Esoc Pradesh has been good value.
I still think Cam Smith long term has got some potential yet to be unlocked.
Hayden Wazanesky can be a three-four starter for you as well.
And Kyle Tucker's been an abomination.
Yeah, it was mid at best in Chicago and has been a disaster in Los Angeles.
But if you're really going to win the Kyle Tucker trade,
which you've already won because you weren't going to spend that kind of crazy thing.
You do need Cam to come through here.
I will still submit I believe in Cam Smith long term.
Terrible homestine.
God, the entire Alphiel was horrible this homestown.
Oh, Chandler Oms on it, it'll be nice.
network. Good for him. Dyes his hair.
Chandler? I think so. He's not even 30, is he? Okay. I'm saying gray early. I'm asking.
He's got to be around 30. Okay. Good for him. So,
yeah, Dana Brown just didn't do enough to win the job, which is what I said, despite people
misreading my tweet yesterday, making me angry. That's okay. That's okay, too. It was a tough job. It was a
tough ask. You have to buy it deadlines and build the farm system and you're
got to stay under the tax and you got to contend at the major league level with an aging
roster. And oh, by the way, we're not resigning any of our guys. They're going to walk. They're all
going to walk. The Bregmans and the who had the Kyle
Tucker's you got to trade away and those types of guys. Framber Valdez,
all these all-star level players, you're going to have to walk and you're going to have
retool and stay under the tax. So it's been tough.
and you know you're paying Jose Al Tuva
30 something million dollars and he hasn't been a good player
not that he's bogging down your entire roster but there are these
little things that add up the most interesting thing I saw yesterday
on the X streets because people have opinions about everything is that
you know is the Dodgers financial troubles that have just popped up
going to force Andrew Friedman maybe to leave there?
I did see that I saw the Andrew Friedman thing there so I mean
Andrew Friedman has Houston ties so let me take this if Andrew Friedman
called Jim Crane
and Andrew Friedman said
you have to give me
complete control
Jim would do it
yeah
but that's a very small pool of people
that Jim Crane would step aside for
other than that
if you're a first time general manager
you're going to hear from Jim Crane
you're going to have Jeff Bagwell on your side
I think you're going to limit yourself from
the top top guys I don't even know who
who's around and who would be available
I saw the same thing about Andrew Friedman.
I guess he has like an out clause if the Dodgers get sold or something like that.
But I mean, this is a lot of work here.
Could David Stearns get fired by Steve Cohen in New York?
Because the Mets have been a disaster.
Jim Crane likes David Stearns.
I just think if you're going after a top three person.
First of all that, why would that top three person want to leave where they are now?
Secondly, you're going to have to give total control.
That means clearinghouse and whoever, maybe Andrew Freeman or anybody else,
would have to create the depth chart or the roster or the pie chart to his specification.
And Jeff Bagwell is going to have to stay down on the Diamond Club.
No coming up to the meeting rooms, Jeff.
So think about this.
If you are bringing a pool of candidates in,
and that candidate is a director of scouting or director of analytics or assistant general manager for something else,
and Jeff Bagwell is part of the conversation,
Oh, yeah, Jeff, you're one of the greatest players of all time.
You're a Hall of Fame.
I love to have you aboard.
And maybe Jim Crane says, look, if you come work for me,
Jim's, I mean, Jeff's going to be calling on you.
He's going to say, hey, what's going on and want to be involved in things?
I just don't like that.
I don't think people are pleased his punch either, but Jim's the boss.
Jim is the boss.
It's his team.
He gets to run it how he wants.
Yeah, to say that no one's going to want this job is ridiculous.
I'm not saying you are.
I'm saying that you're just not going to have the broad.
spectrum of candidates to go to because
the word is on the Astros is that
Jim is very heavily involved
and Jeff
if that Jim Jeff is the guy
that's the conduit between whoever's
going to be the general manager and the ownership of this
team. I think that's fair
I just
I just don't like the amount of control
and again I'll say I get it. Things got
out of control and it was an embarrassment and a
black eye on the organization and a black eye
in Jim Crane. What happened in 2017
with the whole
the cheating scandal plus Jeff Luno wasn't thought of
around baseball circles as the nicest best person.
Is there any part of it you says fool me one shame on you,
fool me twice shame on me?
No, so I get it.
Jim Crane's like I'm never going to be off hand.
This hands off again in my organization.
But I think it's best for the team going forward.
Is him not holding hands with whatever general manager he's going to hire?
You also have to know that people are smarter than you
and hire them and trust them.
I don't know
I think Jim is
is going to be set in his ways
unless it's some candidate
that has this amazing track record
of perennial playoff appearances
World Series victories
and yeah but they're
like that's going to be available
in a great minor league system on top of that
no the pool of candidates will be
now the question will be
do you since you went after two
as the previous caller said do you go after
two guys go after another guy who's never had experience
before or do you find somebody that's already been
general manager at least some point in his life.
I don't remember whose article I was reading.
People out of the Guardian's
organization are highly
thought of. Dodgers, of course, as well.
Is there somebody internally in the Astros organization?
You plucked from the Braves. You've plucked from
the Tampa Bay Rays. I don't know if you'd go back to
either of those wells, but those are
very highly thought of organizations as well, of course.
Because if Jeff is in the room
and Jeff is helping determine the job,
you're going to kiss Jeff's ass.
I would do that if I was looking for the job.
Send Jeff on holiday.
That's not going to happen. Put him in Cabo for the week.
Jeff's been a part of this organization as a player and as a consultant for a long period of time.
I love Jeff. Best Astro in my opinion, 449 home runs, 948 OPS, gold glove MVP.
But he just listened to him talking about baseball. He's too old school for me.
Too old school. It's 2026.
Back in the baseball card. We don't just read back of the baseball cards to make moves.
I'm sorry because we kept hearing that with Jose Abraeu and giving what happened.
Back of Christian Walker's baseball card is pretty good.
Some guys decline.
Okay. Okay. Back at Ted Williams'
baseball card's pretty good. I'm not putting
them out there right now.
All right. If you got a gut feelings, by the way, Gary, Joe,
and Matt do not go anywhere. We will get to the three of you
and the rest of you.
Listen up, girls and boys.
They've been so appealing.
This is their gut feeling
on the Matt Thomas show.
Let's get right to it. How did we do last week,
Jonathan 835 on Sports Talk 790.
I remember a certain
Texans insider telling you
that
K-Shund Booty
Why are you talking like an auctioneer all
of a sudden? Number two, number two, number two.
Oh, we got to getcham-Buddy.
For general round pick a soul
to the Houston Texans.
Okay, somebody.
John, how we do?
Oh, you want me to read it?
I normally read it, I mean.
Go ahead.
Oh, yeah, no, it's Rossus.
Five and one Astros versus the Angels.
Nope.
Is that the score?
Are you saying they were five and one
against the Angels and the A's?
Yep.
What did they do?
Two and four.
Oh, that was close.
That was not close at all.
That's a loss.
That's a loss.
CJ Stroud throws a TD versus the Raiders.
Did not happen.
Elle.
That me too?
God, I just suck you weak.
CJ Stroud's next dog is Cade McDonald.
That might be a win on that one.
And he never calls Reed Blankenship a dog.
What are these predictions?
Look, I wrote him down what they told me to.
He said, not to write him down.
Hey, I was by myself last.
Oh, okay. Jonathan Allen says the Astros will win a six straight.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Well, maybe later. Maybe you met next week?
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, let's go with that. Six straight in New York.
Gordy, so Gordy was in on Tuesday.
Yes, he was.
Four and two Astros versus the Angels. They went two and four.
Christian, have your quality start. That's a loss.
U.T. will lose to Ohio State. We'll see.
I believe, is it UT minus one and a half or something like that?
Your tickets yet?
No, I don't have tickets.
You're going to go?
I might.
My brother has season tickets.
He's taking my dad.
Ooh.
Do you hear that rolling me of the eyes live on live radio?
That gets first priority.
As he should, they know how I feel.
Want to go to the game, of course.
Definitely going to the, well, we'll see.
Certain Astros streams should be going to the OU game.
I have my ticket to the OU game.
Will I be able to go?
We'll have to figure that out.
Let's see.
and that's all I have for you guys.
I don't see anything about Kashan Bouti on there.
We did it on there.
It just didn't write it down.
No, honestly, it's not on here.
It's not on here.
So, S&L.
Thank you.
I am the Texans Insider.
You're welcome, Houston.
All right, here we go.
Let's go Texans Insider.
What do you got now?
Two and four on the Astros trip to New York.
Two and four in New York?
I'll say three and three.
I hope you're right.
There are 500 mid-team.
500 feels about right.
Okay.
I mean, go ahead and this is a mere formality, but Joe Spott had not returned.
Yeah, I mean, I know that, again, Bob Nightingale did him no favors yesterday.
And Bob Nightingale's going to say he's right adventure because, I mean, look, I don't think Jim Crane's been happy for a long time.
I think he just, I think the teapot kettle just blew up, right?
You lose the A's 2 out of three after blowing a 6-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0.
You just, I don't think Jim was just going to sit back and go, oh, golly, golly, gocks.
It's the American League West.
new GM is going to be more of an eye test guy than an analytics guy.
Of course, there's a blend.
Even Dana Brown was like, oh, yeah, I love the analytics, but we know.
Can I give you a really generic field answer?
The next Astrogeneral Manager is someone we've never heard of before.
Probably.
So write that down.
Okay.
So not Brad Osmus or A.J. Hinch?
No.
And by the way, I was bringing up A.J. Hinch because that's who I want.
I wasn't saying I was predicting it or that's why I want, but y'all took it the wrong direction, and that's fine, because you're mean and ugly to.
me.
Bagwell will not be GM.
We want to go ahead and lay that one.
I can lay that one in there.
That's nice and easy.
John,
what you get this week?
Not be.
You know,
you should stop predicting Astro Series
because you never get them right.
You know, I'm staying away from serious.
No, it's been like six weeks.
You should do it.
But you're new.
You're due.
No, no.
See, this is why I walk away from the table and I go and I leave blackjack and I
go to poker.
Okay.
Yes, okay.
Pekko.
Ethan Peko.
Tonight.
Oh, God.
Pecco Park.
Let's go.
Quality start?
Quality starts.
Hold on.
I'm going to save that.
If he throws like six innings
and one-run ball
and putting Pecco Park.
Let me tell you,
if he gets a quality start,
tomorrow's show is called
Jonathan in the morning.
GM's out.
Because he and I,
Ross and I will not be showing up.
GM's out.
Oh,
okay.
You already know your manager?
Ethan Peckos?
You already know your manager's out of the door?
Yeah, all right.
How can I say this season?
I'm that guy.
This is to start looking to turn around.
I am Ethan Pecco.
Bell before me, New York Yankees.
You wouldn't be doing that in the mirror before you had a big start?
I like that.
I feel like you got it.
Quality start.
I'm on board with it.
Sure.
Why not?
Why the hell not?
Please.
Dalton Schultz finish his second in receiving yards on the Texans.
Great one.
Did it last year, right?
I don't remember.
I'm going to go way out of a limb.
Okay.
Kishon Booty has as many touchdowns, if not
more than Nico Collins.
Huh.
Okay.
Man, you are all in on booty.
More like all in on C. Day Stroud getting into the ball.
Ooh, I like that too.
See? Booty has as many if not more.
That's a gut.
That's gut.
I mean, you're going to need Collins to get hurt.
I mean, he has an issue of hamstring injuries and whatnot.
You're going to need injuries and you're going to need booty to be flying high.
You want booty to fly high?
as compared to keeping down low.
Okay.
Jonathan, anything else from you?
We got a lot of folks that want to say hi to us.
No, let's have this folks say.
I'm really confident mind.
Oh, my gosh.
Look at you guys.
It was our second show in the morning.
We got full boards.
I love you, people.
I just want to say, I love y'all.
It makes you want to get up at 4.40 in the morning and go to one.
Absolutely.
Well, more like 505.
So, Brank.
It takes me like six minutes to get here.
That's fine.
Ryan and Montgomery.
You're on with Matt and Ross in the morning.
First, I want to apologize for calling y'all.
I just keep getting caught up with work.
I appreciate you all taking my call.
First off, you're talking about Jeff Bagwell earlier.
He just needs to drink his beer and sit behind home plate.
Hey, he's sober now.
Come on, be nice.
He needs to drink as non-alcoholic beer.
There you go.
He's behind home plate.
And then the whole Nightingale thing, man, I think, part of me thinks that actually happened.
And then somebody came back with like, do you can't say that?
And then they reconded it.
I think regardless, I don't know if Joe's spot, I don't think he's coming back next year.
And then lastly, real fast, these y'all's opinion, not opinion, I just want to grab about one thing.
I love everything about my new office, but there's no good reason for the lights to be on a timer.
Nobody saves that much money, and I don't want to do that in the dark.
That's just all.
We live in a world where you don't have to do that.
So if your lights on a timer, just take it off.
Just turn the light on and off when you go in there.
And that's my two cents, and I'll talk to you guys later.
Thank you very much, Ryan.
Brian, give you a little precursor what we'll do on the show tomorrow.
Tomorrow at 8.30 is ain't nobody got time for that and shut your ball mess up.
By the way, we were supposed to have, obviously, Dana Brown, tomorrow at 930.
That's not going to happen.
What are we going to get?
Jeff Bagwell.
Nobody this week will have somebody in the following week.
Really?
Whatever that will be.
Oh, really?
Oh, is that a good feeling.
No, no, that's what we were talking to.
Okay.
Yeah.
No.
I don't know who's going to be.
Jeff Bagwell is the greatest.
I love Jeff Bagwell.
He should be the GM.
Jeff, no, don't even speak to it.
Jeff doesn't want it. He doesn't want it.
He wants to be involved, but he didn't want the job.
Get him on.
You know what? Here comes an analogy. It's going to suck.
Oh, boy.
He's like 0 for 4 so far in the mornings.
No, I don't believe it to be the case.
He doesn't want to be the head chef, but he wants to go and taste the food before it goes out.
Boom. Boom!
Yes!
That doesn't make...
Who does that?
I know.
Good chefs taste their food before they serve people.
Yeah, but you just said he's not a head chef.
Yeah.
He just busts in the kitchen, it eats food and leaves?
No, he wants to taste it before it goes out.
It's an F. This is an F.
Is that a Karen?
Yeah, exactly.
No.
Sorry.
Oh, for five.
No.
You're having a Kamsmith kind of week.
No, no, no.
Leave Kams Smith alone.
I'm sorry, you're having a Taylor Tremel kind of week.
No, Cam Smith.
In Taylor-T had the same success.
They both get the same success.
same sentence. We need to get to these callers.
Go to a short time out. Oh my gosh.
All you guys on hold, we love you. We'll get you. We'll get you.
We're not talking. We're just going to let you all talk. We'll stop blabbering.
Yes. You know, we're going to talk about Big City Wings.
On the phones, gut feelings continue. If you don't have any gut feelings, you're on our whole line.
That's okay. We're getting to you. We've got plenty of time. We're taking a lot of calls between now and 930.
NFL Rewan at 930. Ross would have today's edition of believe it or not at 950.
Anybody famous to die?
I can find somebody.
What?
Let's go to...
GM history. Astro's GMs.
Astro GM history. Matt.
What's in your gut this week?
Matt? Thanks for calling Matt and Ross in the morning.
Yes, of course.
I got a gut feeling.
I'm not happy about this one, but this is something I have in my gut.
I got a gut feeling at the end of the season.
It will be announced that Yordon Albrez is having a hand procedure
because he's playing through an injury, hence the offensive blackout.
I hope I'm wrong, but that's what I got.
I hope you're wrong, too.
Yeah, people have.
have been saying they're noticing him shaking his hand.
I mean, he's still hitting, even though the home runs have slowed down,
he still had a ton of hard hit contact.
So, I mean, he's been out there.
And I just need, how many more games?
I think your next 10 days, probably, right?
I think he's, uh, I think he's at 129.
Oh, yeah.
That'll be a loss.
It's okay.
What do you win on that, by the way?
I got to go look it up.
I think it's, we're doing a plate lunch.
We're doing the drive-through plate lunch.
Like, uh,
Bubayan bros.
Like, a rock of a rana, the two fajitas, the,
the tortillas, the beans, and rice?
No, I thought we were doing Hawaiian B-B-Cue.
Oh, okay, that sounds good.
Yeah, 129. One more game.
If he's in the lineup tonight,
and he gets one swing of the bat,
you win?
I win. You said he'll never play
130 games ever again in his career.
And I'll be wrong.
Great radio host, admit when they're wrong.
Yes. And embellish when they're right.
I know.
Geo, what's in your God at 852?
So this is Matt and Ross in the morning, huh?
Yes, sir.
every day.
Six o'clock until 10, Lord William.
I like it.
I like it, man.
All right.
First time I'm calling me,
you know,
my juices don't get flowing until 10 a.m.
But that's a different issue for a different time,
as Matt would say.
But I got a good feeling, man.
I think the Texicans are going to improve from last season.
I think they're going to go 13 and 4.
I think, and I'm right.
Jonathan, what was his bed on a tank?
He thinks 9.5 under for catches.
For the year.
I'm riding with Jonathan on that, man.
I think Tech is going to have at least 13 catches, man.
There we go.
All season long.
All season 13 catches.
You should get nine and a half tunnel screens.
Let's go, baby.
Tank Dell.
Thank you, Gio.
I'm Team Dell.
I love Tank.
It's not 100%.
It may never be.
He might not be.
I mean, he's at least practicing kind of.
I don't know if he's going to.
They're treating him.
I mean, this is now a year and a half of treating him with kid gloves.
I mean, they should.
His knee exploded.
But that doesn't guarantee that he...
His knee does not know when the September calendar comes around.
No, it doesn't.
I don't expect him to start the season on the active roster, personally.
It's okay, man, I'm just saying you're in the minority.
Nine and a half, he can get one, he can get one game.
He can do that.
You know how many screens he's going to get?
Yeah.
Just think about it.
They're going to start calling him Screen Dell.
What, for the Saskatchewan Roughriders?
Oh
Yeah, the gamblers are gone
R-I-P
We haven't heard from Gambler Jim
That's a gut-feeling hit for me on that
I told you they're going to be gone
Well, we hadn't heard from
You can't just make up gut feelings
No
It's not in here
Let me look it up
Charleston, I've talked about
If it's not, no
No, no no
You can't just make up wins
I don't know
Because it sounds like he has said that before
But I don't know
Did you say on this segment though?
Yeah, I know
That's saying yeah
No, you can't just
You can't just call hits
For everything you say
Texans insider
Rockets insider
Terrible
Yeah I don't see the K-Chon booty thing here
Either
Jonathan I see 5 in 1 Astros
How'd that go?
Not well
As Dana Brown
It didn't go well at all
Joe is on 790 with Matt and Ross
in the morning
Good morning Joe
Hey I was throwing in
Because I was wondering
Booty
scored six touchdowns last year
and Higgins scored six touchdowns last year
but Booty did it with less receptions
and
do you think that Higgins could make it back
to the playoffs if we make it that far
come back from his injuries and I ain't up to listen to think.
That would be January. We're in August
so we're talking five months from an ACL?
Probably not.
Yeah, I would say no.
And what kind of what kind of ability is he going to have when the first time he touched the ball in a live game?
Yeah.
I would say it's a liver, you know, die kind of game.
Very unlikely.
Yeah, I don't think, no.
When they say you're done, you're done.
Like, I mean, I love Carlos Correa trying to come back.
If he comes back at all, he's gravy.
But it's no way that's Carlos Correa 100%.
Yeah, we heard from Fred Van Vleets could make it back in a playoff run.
That never material.
She's trying.
And sports medicine is better than it was 10 years ago.
Absolutely.
But everybody has limitations.
I mean, Jason Tatum did come back really fast from his Achilles injury.
It was like eight, nine months.
It was one of the fastest returns.
But no.
I wouldn't.
I wouldn't anticipate either of those guys.
Matt and Katie, good morning.
Good morning.
Good morning.
My first question is, Matt and Ross, do you guys say, good night?
Shippers in the morning at 6 a.m.
Friday's at 8. We will.
All right.
And my input on the
Houston Astros, well, I'm looking at the
standings here. We're only six
games back of being a lotto
pick. So I'm thinking
we should just, I mean,
we're six games behind the New York
Mets so we can just kind of
lose just enough
to get into the lotto pick. That's what I'll do.
And that's my gut feeling. We'll be
a lotto pick next year's draft.
Wow.
Oh, I guess they do have a lottery now.
Yeah, they do.
Thank you for the phone call.
I can go look at the percentages.
We haven't had to do that in Houston.
Let me tell you something.
If this team goes from being in first place by two games in the American League West in late August to being a lotto pick, that is going to be an epic collapse and y'all and you are going to lose your damn minds.
Yeah, the top four have, well, the top three, the worst.
three will have 19% chance at the number one pick.
I'm just looking at it right now.
Right now, if the Astros missed the playoffs,
they'd have a 0.7% chance at the number one pick.
And then a 7% chance of the top six.
You know what? I don't even want to think about that.
I want the Astros to make the playoffs.
Well, they're not good.
They're not a good baseball team.
I don't want them to make the playoffs.
I mean, they can, but it doesn't matter.
They're not going anywhere in the playoffs.
They're not winning the American League.
They're not catching flighting in a bottle with Tatsuyi Mai and Christian
Javier. They're just not.
Mike Burrell's killing it down
in Chibor. I'm sure he is.
Joe Lopofito's got one more running
him right.
They can win the West.
Yeah. So it's been up and down. They won 12 out of two.
I mean 12 out of 14. Went 12 and 2.
I'm sorry. Ross, I'm sorry. Last time I checked
when the Astros don't make the playoffs, nobody cares about
baseball. I like baseball. Okay. I love baseball.
I love the Astros. Born and raised, Houston, Texas. Astros
fan for life. But I also am going to be realistic.
It's not a good team. They're not making a run in the AL
playoffs. All right, we check top of the hour headlines. Jeff and Gary will get to you. NFL
rewind at 930. Believe it or not today at 950, all things about general manager history for the
Astros. It is Matt, it is Ross, and we are in the morning on Sports Talk 790.
This is Matt and Ross in the morning.
9.04 on Sports Talk 790. Let's get to the headlines of the morning. The Astros open up a series
tonight against the Yankees. Ethan Petco is going to throw for the local nine.
On deck at 5 o'clock, 605 will be the first pitch.
Astros find themselves one-half game behind the Texas Rangers in the America League West
because the Rangers absolutely annihilated their White Sox last night on the south side of Chicago, 11 to 2.
The Astros will have a media availability.
Jim Crane is with the team in New York and he will speak to those members of the media up there covering that.
So I'm sure we'll get a little fall out of that.
And maybe hopefully some audio to play on tomorrow show.
I don't know if that's going to happen.
but at least he's going to be meeting with the print media that has made the trip up there to cover.
McTaggart and Rome are both there.
You hear them on our radio stations and I'm sure they'll give us updates throughout the course of the week.
The Texas made a trade yesterday.
Kisham Booty is now a member of the Houston Texans receiving corps.
Jed York, the owner of the San Francisco 49ers, was arrested for a solicitation of a prostitute in Youngstown, Ohio.
Deshawn Watson apologizes for him being a you know what.
You'll hear that coming up in 25 minutes.
The SEC announced yesterday through a written that they don't not want players that go to the NFL to come back and play one more year.
They're not enforcing it.
They're just saying they don't want to.
But within the last few minutes, the Big Ten has said we will not allow you to go to the NFL and come back and play for a big 10 school.
So the Big Ten has put their foot down.
Big Ten is like enough is enough.
Interesting.
That's within the last 25 minutes.
SEC is like, man, whatever.
The SEC's got no values.
Yeah.
Gordy, I'm calling you out directly.
Your conference has no values.
I'm curious on how Gordy, because we know he's going to be on LSU's side on this.
Correct.
Well, if he's allowed to play, you got to let him play.
I mean, what are you going to do?
I don't know what the rules.
Yeah, we're just following the rules are.
And then his voice gets really high pitch at the end.
Yeah, yeah.
You know, God's going to tell what's going on in the UCLA.
And he's going to call me a dumb ass.
Ooh, that was just one time.
Okay.
By the way, shout out to...
He's got to defend his school.
Tim gut feeling Dartmouth Big Green when the Ivy League Football Conference.
Oh, okay. You know what?
I like the big green this year.
I think Yale's got a good squad.
Should look out for the Bulldogs.
But I like that.
Are they the Bulldogs?
I don't know.
Are they?
Aren't they?
No, they're the Big Green.
We just said it.
No, I said Yale.
Oh, Yale?
What is it?
Aren't they the Bulldogs?
That's a great, believe it or not.
We can do it tomorrow.
Ivy is the Crimps.
I mean, Harvard's the Crimson?
Just Crimson.
Just crimson.
Not the tide.
That's right.
Rhode Island are the Rams.
They play in the Rams Stadium?
No, at conference.
Oh, Atlantic 10.
Thank you very much.
Go Rams.
Go Rams.
My daughter.
I thought you were inviting me for a trip and then you didn't.
Because this year hasn't that worked out well.
Next year we're going.
I'm only going to see your plate in person twice.
Oh, okay.
You're going to Hawaii too?
London too.
No, London.
That one's actually happening.
You're going to, we're going to Rhode Island next year.
Okay, I'll hold my breath.
By the way, I'm going to send a tweet directly.
I started following the Rhode Island of the Providence.
I lose my companion pass in February, so I'm not going to pay for your flight.
We can go up there in January, but there's no game for her before.
It's going to be snowy.
It's too cool.
I'm good.
All right.
713, 212.1, 7190.
7190.
It's Ross.
It's Matt.
We are in the morning.
Second place again, man.
There's not a good baseball team.
You know what I did yesterday?
What did you do?
And I probably, I aired.
So I like to go to the ballpark once a homestand, just to make scene and see the players,
manager, whatever the case.
Front office, folks.
I didn't mean to say.
to Joe Espada now that you have breathing room, but it just came out.
Ooh, did he correct you?
Well, he said two games, breathing room, huh?
Mm.
And he's right.
And then everyone chuckled at you, and you're like, damn it.
No.
Nobody chuckled.
Okay.
That happens.
That's Aquamia laugh.
No, I mean, I've been there.
I've asked a question where you get pushed back and everybody's like,
ha, ha, ha, look at that guy.
No, no, I've been there.
I ask good questions.
I just used the wrong term.
Yeah, I didn't say you didn't ask good questions.
Because two is, breathing room is not two games.
It's my error.
It was my mistake.
What is two games?
Nothing.
Too close to...
Small lead?
Minuscule?
Yeah, minuscule.
Breathing room, I think, is four games?
Yeah, four.
We were both landed on.
I was almost going to say three and a half.
Four, it's fine.
Four is five.
Yeah.
A little breathing room.
So as soon as I said that, they lost.
They lost two or three of the angels and two or three of the A's.
So you know what?
If you don't throw me under the bus, do it.
know if the Angels and the A's just too damn good.
Oh my God.
What is that?
1984 does just say that to you?
51 wins and 52.
You don't want to know the two teams with the second and third fewest wins in baseball?
That would be the A's and the Angels.
Rockies are the worst with 50 wins.
Do you know it's not coincidental about Dana because of that?
I really believe.
I believe you too.
If they went five to one, Dana's keeping his job.
No, I'm not saying Dana would have kept his job out for this year.
I think.
But he had to be super pissed like the rest of us were.
I think Jim, yeah, I think this is a message from Jim Crane.
Dana Brown wasn't going to be back anyways.
And the string was going to play itself out.
But I think this was a message to the fans like, hey, I'm Jim Crane.
I know this is not okay.
This was a horrible homestan.
Something needs to be shaken up.
This was going to happen anyways.
So I don't want to call it performative necessarily,
but I think it was a message being sent from Jim Crane.
not only to the fan base, but maybe to the players as well.
Like, hey, we know this is not acceptable.
So the last question for you on the phones.
What do the 26 guys in that clubhouse feel that their general manager got fired?
Do they go, oh, golly, G. Shucks, or this guy was over his head,
or there's going to be some people in that room.
They're going to say, we needed some, we needed a boost, and you didn't give it to us.
But there's also people in that room that Christian Walker got it a great deal from.
Taylor Tremel's major.
Mr. Walker is a big Dana-Brown fan.
Taylor-Tramel's career extended.
He traded Wade Jr.
He traded for Cam Smith.
Yes, he did.
He went and got Lamont Wade Jr.
Okay.
Mike Burroughs.
Hey, Tatu you my his thumbs up on Dana Brown.
I think Mike Burroughs is like, damn, dude, I didn't mean to get you fired.
But he's been, he pulled that trade off.
Sorry, Burroughs.
I don't know where Ryan Wyss is these days.
Is he still in Sugar Land?
I think so.
That's good.
By the way, they re-signed Nelson Vasilazquez and put them on the major league roster.
Rayn-Nell de Gauter got optioned, right?
I don't get that.
That wasn't Daneer.
That was somebody else, obviously.
Yeah.
It's just somebody to platoon with Tremel.
Tramel can hit right, he's, not lefties, and then Velasquez is the flip.
So you just need a platoon guy.
You know what I need?
I need the outfitters that can hit.
This homestands sucked.
It's not.
All of you sucked.
They're just not a good, yeah.
Oh, by the way, how do you think Dalton Vars are?
is feeling. Carrying the trade
deadline flag.
Was he hitting 169?
That's after having a couple
of decent games in the last series
against the A's.
There was some idiot who got feeling he would have
OPS plus of 100 as an
Astro. I don't remember that at all. He's close.
He's at 50.
There's still time. He's halfway there.
Jeff on
790, you're on with Matt and Ross in the morning.
Hello, Jeff.
Good morning. Both of you guys.
appreciate your sense of humor.
We certainly have needed it this year with the Astros.
Thank you, Jeff.
I wasn't overly impressed with Dana Brown's tenure,
but I don't know if he had much to work with since they say that the Astros organization had been slated,
you know,
at the bottom of the professional baseball levels as far as what their farm system had
and what was there to work with.
So they've been putting out, you know,
half of a roster that's minor league for most of this year.
And that sure made a spot of job pretty tough.
Considering without Yoran, they'd be probably like, you know, 30 and 100 now.
I called back a couple months ago and said that the only way the Astros could probably get to the playoffs this year is if Hunter Brown came back as Hunter Brown was last year.
and Jeremy Pena
came back healthy and played out
the rest of the season. I said if those two
things didn't happen, I didn't see much
good happening for the Astros this year
based on everybody else. Despite
Yordon's supreme
heroics, he can't carry a team
and other teams now can pitch
around them.
Looking back,
though, you know, I always say at least the Astros
didn't give Tucker a new contract, seeing
what he's done, and Framber
is there rolling along with his great
500 record with Detroit. He hasn't distinguished himself either. One thing I'd like to ask you guys,
has the major leagues ever considered a rule that if a division leader doesn't finish with an
over 500 record, that they can bypass that division completely and put in another wild card
entry? Because that might happen in the ALS this year. And you guys have a great day. I enjoy
hearing both of you. Thank you very much. I appreciate it. I don't think that role.
be instituted. No.
Doesn't happen very often. I wouldn't be,
I wouldn't mind with, I mean
we've talked, we've kind of argued about this before
Matt,
where if your team
where you seed,
you don't have to be a division champion to
be in the top three seats.
For example, the Yankees could be the two seed.
Yes. Are you suggesting... I'm okay with that.
Regardless of division.
Right. Yeah. Just because you wins,
just because, oh, I'm sorry, you could you beat
up on the Mariners, Angels, and A's, and well, the Astros and Rangers aren't good?
All of a sudden, you get to be a top three seed?
Nah, I think they should not do that.
But I get why they do, and I think they should do that with the NFL.
They still get a home game, right?
If you're a division winner, I believe, or did they get rid of that?
No, they think they still do it.
Divisions in basketball, they got rid of that.
So I would be okay with a rule where, yeah, you get in as a 500 team and all of a sudden
you're a three seed.
That's kind of ridiculous.
but you had to play a wild card either way.
So the top two seeds, the way that they do it now,
I'm okay with that as well.
But I wouldn't anticipate ever there being a rule
where the division winner didn't get in the playoffs at all.
Yeah.
No, the NBA doesn't do it.
They does it because they don't care.
And I think ultimately when this expansion comes into the NBA,
they're going to go just to a new scheduling formula.
I think they're going to...
Not for sure.
I think they're going to get rid of...
Divisionless?
That's okay.
Just a gut.
By the way, the Texans just released their rival reunion.
uniforms? Oh, okay. We'll discuss them next. It's hard to do this without being a TV show, but we'll try to do it. NFL rewind. Bottom of the hour as well. 713, 212, 5, 78. I have an initial gut feeling, not an initial reaction to the new uniforms. Okay. These are the ones that they wear against the Colts in the rivalry weekend.
The Texans moments ago released their rivalry uniforms. They're going to use them again.
the cults.
Okay.
Now, you know I have said this many, many, many, many times.
Mm-hmm.
I love white-on-white uniforms.
Those are my absolute favorites.
Okay.
Yeah, that's why we call you Liberty White Matt.
You know what?
I can accept that, and I will accept it.
Okay.
White pants, white jerseys with the lettering and the color.
I like the Bengals white on whites are incredible.
Those are my favorites.
My all-time favorite are the Buccaneers,
creamsicles, white pants, white top, and orange.
Okay.
The old school oilers white on white.
Okay.
Anything white-on-white is my favorite.
Okay.
So the rivalry uniform is out, and I will say, at first blush, I like it.
It is a white-on-white.
It will be used for rivalry weekend.
It has, how would you describe it?
You're better than this than I am when to come to this.
It's a nod to the Houston.
blue tile street signs,
which I love.
I love those, I don't know why.
It just means old school Houston to me.
Back in back in my day, Jonathan,
we would see,
does that even register for Jonathan at all?
The old school Houston, like blue tile street signs in the city?
You know it, Matt.
I do, but I could see this generation doesn't recognize it.
So if you just go look at it,
just Google like Houston blue tiles.
It's basically white with the blue tiles on it,
the old school street signs, which I loved.
So it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
So I like it.
Yeah, I'm going to say flat on I like it.
But the problem is, and there's a big problem,
they're ripping off the Titans uniforms.
They are, I mean, I don't think it's an accident.
Because, well, the Titans, they're not necessarily ripping off the Titans.
The Titans are ripping off the Oilers and the Texans are making an homage to the Oilers.
So they're going to the same source to get to the same.
end.
So I don't know that one's ripping off the other.
It's clear not an accident that they're going with oilers colors as well.
The blue tile.
It is a, now it may not be technically Columbia blue,
but it's as close to Columbia blues you can get without being sued by Amy Kronk-strunk.
Yeah, because they go with the tile thing.
Like that's going to hold up in court.
Like, hey, we're not doing oilers stuff.
We're doing blue tiles.
Look at blue tiles.
What do you got to say about that?
Amy Adams,
drunk.
Hate you.
Yeah.
So anything to be.
anything to piss her off makes me happy?
These are pretty strong.
I like them.
So I like them a lot.
I'm just afraid that Titan fan's going to be.
There you are.
Who cares?
Shut your bum ass up, Titan fan.
Go worry about getting any kind of history going on it.
The team's been there since what, 1997 or whatever.
And they haven't done Jack.
You went to one Super Bowl.
The team was huffing off the fumes of Oilers players.
Steve McNair,
Eddie George Oiler
Got that right
I like how you think
And you haven't done Jack since
Yeah Amy
By the way Amy knows about this
And guess what happened when they showed up in Oilers uniforms
You got your ass kicked
Twice by Case Keenham and the boys
Or Davis Mills or whoever the hell
Two years are one of those uniforms
Yeah two ass kickings
So Amy's seen these before
Because everybody's going to have to tell me
She wasn't waiting for
She wasn't staring in front of her computer
to check out the release.
She's ready to get the cease and desist
locked and loaded. But this is H-Town.
And yeah, absolutely, it's 100%
of homage to the Oilers as well.
So I'm on board with all this.
Screw him.
I'm really curious to see
what Tennessee Titan fans
saying about this. What would I go to find out?
Titansonline.net?
Yeah, something like that.
Okay. So, yeah, Strunk Town.
It really, there is just,
again, the font is
different. The tiles are there.
Yeah.
Obviously the helmet is H, but everything else is pretty much.
It's pretty clearly oilers.
Yeah.
Which is, you know, I still want to let go of the oiler stuff.
I've talked about that because, I mean, they didn't even do anything in this town
and you've got the Texans here since 2002.
It's time to let go.
But this is an homage, especially with the street tiles.
It's cool.
Can I just say I'm stunned that they got away with it?
Yeah, it had to be cleared by Nike and whomever.
Well, there's no way the NFL didn't see the.
ahead of time and said, hey, Tennessee, how do you feel about this?
because they do own colors, which is ridiculous in itself, but they do own them.
Well, Hannah McNair said, shut your bum ass up.
We're doing our Houston homage.
And that's what they're doing.
So, yeah, these are cool.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Honestly, I like this little tile logo they have, too, with the Texanism.
Yeah, and their Twitter account has changed to that.
Yeah.
So, yeah, I'm okay.
I like everything.
I like it.
I'm just,
if you sell something that's old school,
Houston Ties,
like, I'll buy it.
I got like shirt and glassy.
I want everything.
I want everything old school.
Yeah.
But you know what?
The reality is everything.
People like old school.
Of course.
We love nostalgia.
Things were better back in the day.
Sometimes they're better than we remember.
Like,
there are people that like the ketchup,
the pajamas that rockets were.
Oh, those are horrific.
Those are horrible.
I don't want this back.
I'm sorry.
That nostalgia doesn't work for me.
Yeah.
Not interesting.
People, I mean,
who were of that age,
If you were growing up in the mid-190.
You'd have to be what...
I mean, I'm 41 and I'm more ketchup and mustard.
So probably people in their 30s.
Late 30s, yeah.
Anything else that we don't like that's retro?
I like the Astros ketchup.
I mean, I'm sorry.
The Astros rebrand was great,
and then I love the Rockets ones too.
I wasn't a huge fan of the silver and blue star 90s uniforms.
The red brick was okay.
I didn't like the red brick.
River goes mid. Star is okay.
Star is okay. I love the rainbow
shoulder stripes. Yes.
Early 90s, that's my jam.
Yep.
And the white, yeah, they were
white tops, white pants with the
orange on the sharp shoulders.
Sharp looking. All right.
Let's get in a quick call before we get to NFL
Rewind. Scott is with us on 790. You're with
Matt and Ross in the morning. Hello, Scott.
Matt Ross. Good morning, fellas. Congratulations on
the new time slot.
This is slightly not as convenient.
for me is listening to y'all in the afternoons, but I'm a follower, so I'm going to make it work
and do my best to call in when I can. But yeah, these new uniforms, you know, I think they look good.
My only thing with all the new uniforms across all sports, I feel like teams just, you know,
they make them just to obviously sell more jerseys. And, you know, there's a reason,
even though I hate all three of these teams, like the Yankees, the Lakers, and the Cowboys are iconic,
and that's because they don't change anything. And, you know, with these and, like, with the
Astros City Connect or the Rockets,
dunk's or not,
like my only issue with them,
they all look cool.
I don't disagree,
but if I'm going to wear them,
let's say I'm going to get on an airplane
and I'm going to go to visit my sister who lives in Denver.
I like to wear Houston's sports stuff,
and I want someone in Denver to know that's what I'm wearing.
If I wear that Astro City Connect hat,
nobody would have any idea what the heck that is
unless you're like a huge sports fan, basically.
That, A, I mean,
it's going to take years before people recognize that
as like an Astros hat.
It looks really similar to like other A.
I think there's a brand that looks really similar to that A.
Yes.
I mean,
that's a similar concept to with the Dunstscher Not,
with the Rockets,
even though I think it's cool.
How would people know that sort of just looks like it could be a space shirt of some kind?
And the Texans,
the same thing with that H.
I don't really like the H at all.
But yeah,
they look cool.
It's just I think all these teams dilute the brand of what you're trying to get done
when you do stuff like that.
But congrats on the show,
fellas. I'll keep listening. Thank you, Scott, very much. The reality is this. You have to reinvent
yourself to make more money. That's it. Unless you have like all-time, iconic heritage.
I mean, everybody's doing it, but yeah, you want to make some money. You want to show some more jerseys.
You can reinvent it. Major League Baseball allows you to have five jerseys. Isn't that incredible?
And every team's got them, except the Yankees. The Yankees were the pinstripes at home, New York on the road, and that's it.
Dodgers even have a bunch of uniforms.
Yeah, they're the Yankees.
You're not.
Nope.
Yankees, two uniforms, everybody else, five.
NFL uniforms changing constant.
Uh-huh.
Make them cheaper.
Make them faster.
Make them, like, wither away.
And rip faster.
So you can sell more.
Sell.
Sell.
Sell.
More.
Sell.
Sell, sell, sell.
Available at Houston, Texans.
com.
Cal McNair.com.
Sure, yeah.
The jersey's probably a nice affordable
on $190 or something.
You know,
if the Texans,
why don't you,
why don't you send us some shirts?
Collared, please.
You want a large shirt?
You want extra large or double X?
Double X?
You want extra large, right?
No, you know what?
I'm down to a large.
Shut your bum ass up.
You may are wearing large as now?
Yeah.
We didn't start out that way.
We're going to medium.
We're going to be deathly ill.
Oh, well, yeah.
I'm a little worried about that tape wearing.
You're ravaging you.
Grown men can not wear mediums.
Why not?
Because it's just not...
Grown men can wear medium?
No, you can't.
I'm a grown man.
Jonathan wears medium?
See?
Yeah, but you're a little better large.
What?
What does that even mean?
You wear mediums, Jonathan?
And sometimes largest, yeah.
Oh, what are you more comfortable in?
Both?
What's wrong?
Why?
You're so weird.
What?
Why are you worried about the size of another man's shirt?
Because I medium is just...
Are you bad?
What does...
that even mean?
I mean,
NFL Rewind is up next.
Maybe a full 100% man, I don't know,
something like that, I don't know.
Oh, yeah, because you're the arbiter of what a man and what a man isn't.
Large makes you man.
Okay.
I'm going to wear a medium with a scarf.
You may have lost weight, but you can't fit a medium.
I can't fit a medium.
No, I'm not going to fit a medium.
No, nobody wants to fit a medium.
932 on Sports Talk 7.
Let's check out what's happening around the NFL.
We'll do that after I tell you about a lot.
affordable treat service.
Sorry, John.
I didn't mean to
medium
assault you there. It's okay.
I look good. It don't matter. That's true.
Medium shaming. I was medium shaming you.
Every Tuesday around 9.30
on Sports Talk 790 with
Matt and Ross in the morning.
We will go around the NFL.
Now, normally we'll have a chance to recap
everything, plus even a little anecdotal
thing about the Monday night game, plus maybe even
some C.
Demico Ryan's sound, but since we are all wonky because of the schedule,
we're just going to take a look at what's happening around the National Football League,
and we call it Ross's NFL Rewind.
Yes, Matthew, we will start things in Cleveland.
We played the audio, I believe, yesterday.
Deshawn Watson was talking about the fans, booing him when he tore his Achilles,
and he just sounded very angry and upset.
Well, of course, I'm sure, after talk with his agents and probably the Cleveland
Brown's PR department.
Looky here.
Deshawn Watson would like to issue an apology.
Everyone ready?
First off, I want to address the comments from Saturday after the game.
You know, I think just, you know, human nature, just myself being very emotional.
Putting a lot of time these last two years to, you know, get back and, you know, spend time in this facility, in the city.
meeting a lot of different people in the community.
You know, I thought I was going to get, you know, a little different response.
But, you know, I think, you know, my emotions got the best of me.
And, you know, I wasn't in, my comments wasn't attending to go at any of the fans around in the city.
Because there's been a lot of great fans that have been supporting me.
And I know the frustration.
Oh, this is such a BS.
You know, a lot of investment in coming, you know, to get me back in the,
in 22 and things haven't been going the right direction that we thought it was.
You know, a lot of injuries, a lot of time off,
and not putting the best football in my foot forward.
Again, just, you know, I understand the frustration.
I understand everything that kind of goes into that.
You know, and moving forward, I just want to focus on football.
There you go.
He went on for like another minute and a half.
Seriously, that was worse than his original statement.
I would just like to focus on football.
I'm so disingenuous.
The emotions got the best thing.
me. I love you guys. Cleveland number one.
Oh, by the way, they named me starter.
Oh, by the way, the only reason
of the day is I make $240 million.
It's like almost a
$90 million cap hit if they let him go.
Biggest cap hit in NFL
history is Tuatua, Tuatunga
below is like $55 million for Miami to let him
go. I thought Deshaun was stupid by saying
what he said, but at least he meant it. That
was nothing but lies yesterday.
But you know what? Average athletes lie.
Just like radio hosts.
Ah, well, some radio.
hosts more than others. Well, Matthew, of course, we were talking earlier about the Jed York
arrest as he was apparently soliciting a prostitute at a trailer park. Well, the manager of the
Wheat Hill mobile home community has weighed in. Stop it. Yes. Do we have audio of this?
No, we don't have audio of it, but we do have a message from him. He's like, all right, folks,
we just want to let you all know there's not prostitution going around in here.
According to the chief police of East Palestine, they have also clarified that the news, that it was actually where he got pulled over.
That's not where he was going to solicit the prostitute.
So there is no trafficking in that area.
Correct.
According to the property manager, this news of this arrest in our quiet community is just as shocking to us as the rest of you.
We support law enforcement in their efforts.
We have no other knowledge of the situation.
They said it's a clean,
a clean, quiet, and affordable place to call home.
Not the type of place that Jerry Springer would ever find people on his show.
He really said that.
Yes.
You didn't add that to it?
They said that on their website, yes.
Jerry Springer has been on in five years.
More than that, probably, right?
I mean, the repeats are still showing.
By the way, we're going to do it.
We have our poll question on him.
That's where Jed York got pulled over.
That's not where he was soliciting a prostitute is what they're saying.
Yeah.
All right.
So I'm looking at our Facebook reels.
or it's on Instagram as well
How did Jed York pay the options are
102-20s?
I said two-one-hundreds
and change. He was asking for change.
I'm voting for myself.
Okay.
How are you doing on those votes?
I can't. I guess I can't vote.
Oh, it's 53 and 47 is what I see.
Okay. That works.
Yeah, I got 53% of people on my side.
But when your vote comes in and it looks like it might go to 50-50.
Okay.
If you want to go vote, we argued on the Instagram reel.
It's also on the Facebook.
story as well. Follow us on Instagram
at SportsRV. I just want to start uploading a more.
It's like us chatting between a break.
Yeah. As we've
always said, our show is significantly better off here
than it is on air. It's on my story as well.
Now I'm 14 away from 1700
at SportsRV on Instagram
if you'd like to follow me. At SportsMT.
False promises and lies.
False promises? You said the Astros were going to sweep the angels
and the A's or go five and one and then they went
three and six. Stand by. Would you like the Astros
or win a game in New York? Follow me on
Instagram at SportsMT.
A single game?
NFL ReWRewan.
That's all you're promoting?
Back to focus.
Horrible.
Well, unfortunately, more studies about CTE are coming out for the NFL.
A story now with the New York Times in a companion article saying that there was an uptick in concussions last year with the moving of what you got all upset about, Matt, with the kickoff rule.
as they had them now where they're not kicking off as much outside of out of bounds with touchbacks
because it moved to the 35 so there have been more kickoffs.
That means there's also been an uptick in concussions and also another study where they looked at NFL players
who passed between 2016 and 2021 at least 25% had CTE according to the new study.
It's dumb. I can't get used to it. I'm sorry. It just seems ridiculous.
Oh, so you want more brain injuries?
I don't want more, but it's NFL.
What are you going to do?
Okay.
You can protect them as much.
You know what?
Jalen Petrie needs to wear that big thing around his head all the time.
Also quoted in this ESPN story is Texans linebacker Aziz Al-Shahir recently asked about CTE.
Quote, the reality of the games that it's aggressive is violent.
We're out here running at each other.
These are the best athletes in the world playing on one field.
You're going full speed running into each other.
That's the type of stuff that can happen.
Same thing NASCAR says.
We get vicious potential injuries are a part of the sport.
Yeah, but you can still, you take safety measures.
Yeah, big helmets.
Big helmets?
FOMY helmets.
Oh, you're telling you, like Jalen Petrie.
Yeah.
Okay.
Like great gazoo.
That's a great gazoo.
All right, there you go.
One quick, not necessarily an NFL note, but Big Ten, not going to allow players to
return from the NFL, according to ESPN's Pete Thammel.
SEC came out and made a statement saying they're not for it, but they're not going to do anything
to bar it.
Basically, Big Ten is saying, no, you are an NFL player.
You are not coming back to play in our league.
Funny, the SEC puts out this grandiose statement and then says, well, we're not going to adhere to this.
We just don't want you to do it.
Big Ten's like, we're not taking you back.
Lane Kiffin defending LSU's moves.
Of course, I'm probably sure this is be spouted by Chris Gordy.
Either they're going to play for you or they're going to play for someone else around the country.
Basically, why not us?
No, because the Big Ten just said no.
Lane Kiffin.
Talk to Lane Kiffin.
No, if he doesn't talk to Gordon, I'd talk to me.
Okay.
And that's Ross's NFL ReW.
There you go.
Ready to play, believe it or not?
Categority.
What?
Yeah.
Antigotal things about Astros general managers of the past, right?
945.
It's our first ever, believe it or not, in Matt and Ross in the morning.
And we'll do that right after, oh, what are we playing for?
Let me look.
Maybe we got better prizes in the morning.
I don't know.
Let's take a look here.
What are the big?
Big old prizes on Matt and Ross in the morning.
We are playing for tickets to see Jack Johnson live at the Surr Film Music Tour, August 28th at the Woodlands Pavilion.

That new song in the morning.

Sorry, he lost.
My bad.
That's fine.
Hey, Seuss on 790,
Hey, Sus, you're ready to play, believe it or not?

Yeah, I'm ready.
Jerry Hunsaker's first draft pick is general manager of the Astros
was Scott Ellerton. Believe it or not?
Believe it?
No, Mark Johnson. Duh.
So tomorrow, one answer wins your prize.
Good job, Ross.
Ross. Was that a full skunk, or did somebody get any of them right?
Somebody got one right.
Yeah, one, yeah.
All right.
