Lunch timers. This is the Matt Thomas show.
1202 in H-Town. What's happening in lunchtimes? Good afternoon to you and welcome to a Monday edition of the Matt Thomas show.
Here on Sports Talk 790, of course with Ross. We can't ever forget him.
Thank you.
Went to the barber today, got myself a shave before tonight's game and nice listener came by and said, hey, I love you and Ross together.
I'm like, he said, I like you better by yourself, but Ross is fine.
in addition to the squad.
So, no, you didn't say that.
I couldn't even sell that very hard.
Hope you guys are in a fan.
It's a nice try.
No, that's right.
It wasn't even a good effort.
That's okay.
We got a busy show for you today.
Yes, we do.
We have, of course, your home for election coverage right here.
No, please.
I don't want to hear.
I don't even want to hear that word.
What is that?
Why am I getting 45 texts a day?
I didn't even get that four years ago.
I know.
I'm getting most of them from my mom.
My mom.
I don't know how I got all these texts for my mother.
Why is she texting?
Is she want you to vote?
It's from politicians to my mother to my phone.
Oh, I see.
And then 15 times a week I got people calling me about my dad's house asking if I want to sell.
I'm like, that's not me.
Can I tell you something?
I put a new feature on my phone, not new, but something I put in about a couple months ago
that if my caller ID does not recognize the person, it goes to voicemail immediately.
Now, sometimes it does hurt you because you have strange callers trying to call.
You know, legitimate.
Because in the media business, I feel like you're going to get more strange people.
But more times than not, those people will leave a voice message and say, hey, this is John from Jones Construction or something.
I'm going to call you back on something or my doctor's office.
But the rest of time, it's mostly spam, and I don't have to hear any of it.
It makes me feel good.
What if Justin Verland is trying to call you to say, I want to go on the show and then you send it straight to voicemail, man?
Would Ben Berliner call my phone 25 times?
Absolutely.
But not Justin.
Hey, man.
Hey, bro.
Can I get back on your radio?
station. I was hoping to try to get back on. I know I know that my brother doesn't come on and has never
come on your show once, but, you know, I'd love to come on your show and talk to baseball.
You can get you on my flipping bats pod. Yeah, bro. Everybody's got pods.
98% of the time, if you don't have a pod, either too lazy to do radio or not talented enough.
Hey, come on. I'm just telling you the truth. We've got to build up a career somehow, Matt.
Yeah, how's it going? I'm trying. No, you're doing fine. You're on a real radio station.
You are as legit meaty as it gets, although you don't dress like, but that's different
issue for a different time.
I'm not going, I'm not going to the game today.
That's right.
What if I did in this?
I'm wearing my H-town blue shirt.
I like it.
I like it.
Is our Rockets Insider, Conover, going on the game tonight?
I don't know.
All right.
I'll go on Wednesday.
I'm not going to do on Wednesday.
I'm not going to see the New York Knickabockers?
No, I'm going to, I do actually.
I mean, it's appealing, but I'm going to stay home so I can watch Monday night football and the
Rockets and the Rockets and then do Rockets and then do Rockets at 630.
Yes, it will be a nightcap 6 to 630, then we'll switch into launchpad mode,
and then coming up after that, it's Rockets Radio Network.
I would essentially suggest all of you just start listening at 745.
And Matt Thomas on the call coming up at 745.
Well, what a Saturday night we have.
You don't know this because you don't listen to the pregame shows,
not that you would because you're busy with the arena.
Every show, I say Matt Thomas is going to do a great job on the call coming up at 745 or whenever the game is.
You want to hug right now.
Is that what you want?
I'm just letting you know.
I think it's nice to say that.
I do listen to the post game show that are night.
Oh, you were the one.
Well, I mean, I got one caller.
I didn't notice you had one.
It was a good game.
Troy and Humble, I love you.
Yeah, and Troy's a regular.
That's good.
That's great.
Yeah, I would assume that when you down 31, it's going to probably lose a little bit of a audience.
That was almost history.
That was fun.
That was the most fun six-point loss I've ever seen in my life.
Yeah, I was thinking about how fast I can get out of it.
the arena as soon as the game was over with like do i have to say goodbye i was thinking about that like
how fast in my post game show going to be if they lose by 40 yeah warriors yeah it was
it was exactly 24 minutes as you're possibly going to find and then it was really awesome for 24
then the post game or so the overtime was not very good as the rockets ran out steam
and uh it was interesting that the guys that were out there didn't involve well one guy was out there
that was the second highest paid guy
and then the highest paid guy
wasn't really out there at all.
So,
I tell you,
Emi doesn't look at the paychecks.
He does not.
He does not.
He's performing.
And yes,
Alper and Shingoon is who Matt's talking about.
He hasn't been in the closing lineup
against the Mavericks either.
Yeah, he is averaging,
I want to say,
minuscule fourth quarter points this year.
Not because he can't make shots
in the fourth quarter,
just a lot of times lately he's not been out there.
And did you hear after the game,
Emi Adoka,
talking about him playing himself into shape.
there was a comment about that.
And see, to me, he looked a little leaner coming into the season.
I don't think he would have gained all of a sudden 10 pounds on the last couple days.
He was leaner because he wouldn't hit in the weights.
That's true.
That's true.
All right.
Next are in tonight.
We'll have it for you here on 7.
Our coverage will begin really right about now.
6 o'clock.
Oh, okay.
Now, yeah, you're right.
Yeah, and then 6 o'clock will be for the launch, or the nightcap, which would be probably just regurgated topics of the previous.
And we're really fritz twice, actually.
Yeah, Willie's going to join us.
And Willie, Willie,
was not supposed to join us today.
Why is he on a Monday?
Because when you beat the number 17 team in the country, you should have a little bit of
get your flowers.
Oh, okay.
It's a great win.
We can give them the flowers.
Mm-hmm.
What a strange night for college football in our town.
So, U.H is playing Kansas State at the exact same time that Navy Rice is supposed to be playing.
Yes.
Our game was delayed just shy of an hour.
I think we kicked off at 3.32, something like that.
We're supposed to start kick off at 240.
Okay.
The Navy Rice game was having the same weather issues, too,
but they were getting delayed and delayed and delayed and delayed.
They'd play for a while and they'd delayed again.
They would play for a while and got delayed again.
I think they finished their game at 10 o'clock at night.
I'm not kidding you.
Now, Rice did pull off a huge upset beating over a top 20 team in Navy.
Good for them.
But damn, I didn't realize the weather would be so crazy for two facilities
that were about seven miles apart.
And it didn't come with a cold front.
now it's still hot.
Yeah.
That's the worst part.
Sticky is the kids.
It's not good.
Yeah, it's not good.
We're in November.
It's still in the mid-80s.
You know, I'm never going to complain about it.
You're not?
I am.
I'm getting a little cold snap.
We're going to go to Detroit this weekend.
Oh, okay.
Well, you'll be on the road.
But I want some crispy air.
Do you?
Crisp air.
Excuse me.
You want some crispy air.
Yeah, it sounds delicious.
Yeah, deep fried.
That sounds a little weird.
All right.
713-212-5-79.
If you want to join us today on the radio program,
713212-12-5.
790.
I think Ross and I, we did not speak to each other yesterday because we try to block each other's
phones on Sunday.
We're talking up during the week.
But I'm assuming that you do what I did and you watched several hours of Red Zone.
I think I put it on at 1230 and I don't think I turned it off until got to be about 615.
And they told me I had to turn it off because there's only one game left.
I sat on the couch for Red Zone at 1159.
I did not move from the couch.
Well, I made a sandwich about 2.30.
And that was it.
I did not move from the couch till about 6.45 until what was the last one.
It was Seahawks and Rams.
When there's only one game left, they have to let you go and you have to go turn on your regular Foxx.
To the conclusion of Seahawks, Rams, which went into overtime.
It was great.
And again, I don't have a dog in the fight because I don't have an NFL team.
But when you really don't have a dog in a fight, when you're not watching a local team,
you can just sit there and just, first of all, stare at your fantasy team for hours on end.
Yes, all five of them I was checking.
Yeah.
Secondly, you don't have many emotions with any of them.
You just hope for good games.
Yeah, you could sit there and watch Sequan Barclay go out there to pull off two spin moves and a backwards hurdle.
And a high hurdle.
I've never seen that.
Edwin Moses was jealous of that move.
That's how good that was.
It was insane.
It was a balletic.
Yeah.
I mean, there was a couple of games in the NFL yesterday where you had tight ends and running backs,
jumping over people. That said, you know what?
As compared to trying to go head to head, leap over them.
And exactly what they did.
It was fun.
So we will get into anything NFL related if you'd like to on the radio on the show.
713-213-2-5-7.
And Willie Fritz is going to join us at 1.30 today.
D'Amico's going to speak to the media today at 2 o'clock.
So we'll let you hear that.
And see what he had to say about how the boys spent not the off weekend,
but they had played their game, obviously, Thursday.
Lions coming in to Sunday's game, Sunday night's game, by the way,
as a five-point favorite inside NRG Stadium.
Wow.
I watched, as you did, when you have the three-clock games,
there are less games to flip around to.
Scott Hansen has to filibuster more.
Well, actually, you know, it doesn't talk as much.
They just go from game to game.
So you can go to the bathroom.
There's fewer games when they all go to commercial and stuff.
Yeah, yeah, he's got to talk.
Detroit
it's going to
I don't want to say this
because it's still a long way to go
but
got a feeling
you can save it for tomorrow
no go ahead
I mean
initial reaction
initial reaction is Detroit's going
to not only win the NFC
but win it rather comfortably
there is another team offensively
and they're not even
counting Sam Darnel
and the Vikings who yesterday
were atrocious for the first half
against the Colts
Colts kind of a defense
though
if Detroit ever ran into a defense
that really could cabash
their offense, they'd be in trouble. But Detroit, even on a slick, bad weather day, golf and the running
backs, the receivers, the tie. I mean, they're just the, they're the best team in the NFL there right now,
at least on the NFC side. I would agree. And I would say the toughest defense as they could run
into are most of them are on the AFC side. Like the Broncos, Chargers, Steelers, Chiefs
have a great defense. Yep. Yep. Like most of those teams are, you're not going to run into on that side.
I don't even know who has the best defense in the NFC. Maybe the 9th.
But hell, I was watching Jacksonville Philadelphia yesterday,
and the Jaguars were, Philadelphia, made some boneheaded mistakes,
and they were allowed to get back in the game there.
Yeah, they tried to give that game away.
I wasn't overlay in Presley of Minnesota at all yesterday.
You have Justin Jefferson, and you can't put up a single point in the first half.
Well, he had like 100 yards of the first half.
He's literally unstoppable, and yet they didn't cross the end zone.
It's crazy on that.
So, Detroit, it's going to be a problem on Sunday.
Yes.
They get James and Williams back too, I believe, from his two-game suspension.
Yep.
And then you've got to Dallas after that.
Now, what Dallas team you're getting, is it going to be Cooper Rush and quarterback,
or is it going to be Dak Prescott who left the game yesterday for Dallas against Atlanta with a hamstring injury?
So we'll see exactly how serious that is.
We'll get that further up then and that tomorrow during the NFL rewind with Ross, which will be at $130.
Yes, of course.
So we'll have that.
What else?
College football this weekend.
Aggies?
What happened?
Probably trying to count the days of the SEC championship game.
I thought we were put...
They were only two premature.
They were booking their flights to Atlanta.
What happened?
And everything okay?
They may have to...
They may be going to Atlanta, but they can be changing planes.
We'll be staying there.
Okay.
Well, that's true.
They're still alive, right?
Oh, yeah.
I've got to be.
I mean, when you have 16 teams, you feel like you get...
Oh, my God.
It's a mess.
The tiebreakers are going to get to get...
Like how many, I mean, if you're a conference, like the Big 12 or the SEC or the Big Ten for the matter,
and you don't have these divisions, you've got to have massive amounts of tiebreakers.
That's what they do.
We talked about them.
I'd have to bring them back up.
Of course, we know Chris Gordy knows every one of them, but it gets weird.
It gets real weird down the tiebreaker.
Like, I would assume the fifth or six tiebreaker is probably something so ridiculous.
You never would have even thought of it until you came up until you read it.
Yeah, it's something, yeah.
The last draw is random draw of tied teams.
That's tiebreaker F.
Your rando draw, huh?
Okay.
Tiebreaker E is cap relative total scoring margin versus all conference opponents among the tied teams.
What did you just say?
Exactly.
Yikes.
All right.
Texans fans, have you been licking your wounds off of the, you know, I wasn't on with you Friday because I was up in college station at the ring ceremony.
How'd that go, by the way?
It was fun.
It was really quick.
easy. A&M, shout out to you.
Very organized, really easy maneuver.
This was school sponsored?
Oh, yeah. The dunking? No, no, no, no.
The dunking is not. Getting the
getting the ring is.
Okay. And by the way, so we bought painting a pitcher.
If those, I mean, Aggies to know what in it. We got him a good size pitcher.
And he drank sweet tea because he's not, he doesn't like, he doesn't like, he doesn't
go to diabetic shock after that? He doesn't like alcohol.
But we were talking about the ring dunk, and I had never seen it in first hand my life,
because I have no Aggies and my family, except obviously my son now.
And apparently you're supposed to drink in a one gulp.
Yes, chug the beer.
And they time it.
And they time it.
And then the most common thing that happens as soon as it, after it's done,
after you grab your ring out of your beer, is you vomit.
You throw up.
The vomit factor is about 85, 90%,
because you're not supposed to drink that much beer in that short of period time.
Correct.
So he, but he finished off that team.
Now, he did take unsweet team.
We put a bunch of splen in it.
I go, son, I'm not having you put.
cane sugar in this team and having you knock that whole thing back you're being in a coma but we had a
good time and uh you did you know that you put the ring on and then on one side and then when
you graduate you flip it to the other side yes correct i didn't see these things i didn't know yeah
they're they're really into their rings well i let me tell you something for for and i love
university houston as you know we don't have any traditions we just don't i'm sorry we don't
And so if you think I'm going to criticize schools or traditions, you're going to have them coming.
The ring one's fine.
They got some weird ones, though.
Now, I did tell him, I said in and his brother was with us yesterday.
I did say this yelliter bit is ridiculous.
It always will be.
They're stupid.
They're dumb.
And it makes no sense.
And he didn't want to hear any of that either.
Okay.
But that's right.
But you're right.
Everything else about A&M, I completely embrace, except that.
What about burying the dead dogs near the stadium?
I'm okay with that too.
I really am.

on Sports Talk 790.
Hi, 1222 Sports Talk 790.
Happy opening day of college basketball.
There's like 900,000 games on today.
A bunch of them starting like right now.
That's great.
So if anybody's looking for a UT Dallas, UT Arlington score,
I'd be happy to pass that along to the audience here.
Cougar basketball starts tonight against.
U.N. Dallas.
Oh, excuse me, NT Dallas.
Cougar basketball starts tonight against.
Jackson State.
It's fine.
A little cupcake to start the season.
Yeah. I'll tell you who's got a tough schedule is A&M.
They open up at UCF, Big 12, and they've got, I mean, probably at least five top 40 teams in their non-conference.
Oh, okay.
How's Texas is a non-conference basketball going to do?
Tonight they open up their season playing at...
Well, I don't know if it's at because you never know.
Oh, it's in Las Vegas, actually.
Where is it?
It's in Las Vegas. Ohio State.
That's not bad.
Yeah.
You think Craig Ways at the casino or do you think he is studied...
One little Mickey Mouse programs playing Jackson State.
One's stepping up the big boys, baby.
We're going to be top five.
Shut your bum ass up.
And then Texas plays Houston Christian.
Okay, that's going to be a 40-point game.
Chicago State.
50-point game.
Mississippi Valley State.
50.
And then Syracuse.
Okay.
It's a good balance.
You can't have one juggernaut for the other.
They also play NC State and Yukon in the non-conference.
Oh, good for y'all.
Good for you.
L's, L's and L's and more L's.
Stop.
Just landed a four-star recruit last week, so whatever.
I'm ready.
I'm ready to be hurt again by Texas basketball.
I mean, it's can't wait.
It's always there for you.
Yeah, seriously.
It's that yearly bitter pill you have to swallow.
Texas and Ohio State, 9 o'clock on T&T tonight.
And it's going to be on one of our stations, right?
Can't be here?
No, it's got to be in the fam somewhere.
Somewhere, because we don't start until 745 tonight, so it can't be here.
Cougars play at 7.
Can't be on Cape.
Maybe it's on the...
It's sunny. Dana Tyson, I believe, on the call.
I believe it's on 93-7 to beat.
Hard-body Kiadi on the call.
Hard-body Kiadi.
That's funny.
713-212-5-790.
7-13-21-2-5-7-90.
Congratulations, a little baseball here early on.
And we're going to mix in all the different sports,
but Alex Brebman grabbing himself a gold glove yesterday.
Yes, go ahead.
And then I see a story today out of SI that says the following.
And I'm going to go ahead and show you, give you the headline.
I'll let you go from there.
Houston Astros' top prospect, not seen as an answer for a third-place replacement.
Hmm. That'd be Zach DeZenzo?
Nope. Bryce Matthews.
Oh, Bryce Matthews.
They're saying he needs at least they being any, but the scouts that have been talking to this dude at S.I.
Says he needs at least a half season of hitting and probably a full season of fielding before he was to inherit the spot.
Hmm.
Hmm.
I guess tomorrow starts free agency, right?
I think so.
True free agency.
And as you mentioned pre-show, which I didn't know,
So Iiohenio Suarez.
15 million dollar deal, yep.
Going to stay.
Diamondbacks have opted into his deal.
Yeah.
So he's not available.
Right.
He was top two on the market with along aside Yon Moncada.
Yeah.
Oh, man.
And then you're getting into like Paul de Young and Gior Schella territory.
I wish we were on Space City right now because people could see your nose.
You're just like scrunching it up in the worst possible way.
Sign Bregman, please.
I mean, you could try to talk it into existence if you want to.
I'll take the hell of the Altuve approach.
He's like, there's no doubt in my mind.
They're going to sign Alex Breggman.
There really is any sign?
Is that a little doubt?
There's no, there's a little doubt.
Nope, no, he's signing here.
No, they're going to spend.
Let's all take the Altuvei approach.
There's no doubt in my mind.
They're going to sign Alex Breggman.
Well, let's not to cross over to politics here, but if you were asked the Democratic nominee,
she thinks she's winning tomorrow.
I think she's got some doubt.
If you ask a Republican candidate, he thinks he's winning tomorrow.
I think they probably both have doubts.
Yeah, but publicly, they, privately, I'm sure they do.
Privately, yeah.
I'm talking about hell's out too bad.
Yeah, I mean, that was my analogy and it worked.
I got it.
Okay.
It worked.
It worked.
You're doing great.
Okay.
We're trying.
713, 21, 2.12.
719.
7.13.
2.1, 2.1, 7.19.
So how did everybody spend their weekend?
Did you immerse yourself with college football?
Yes.
Did you partake in the NFL stuff?
Did you say, you know what, no Texans are playing?
I'm good?
I'm sure some people did.
I'm always curious.
And we used to, now, David Barron used to write for The Chronicle,
and he would give us the ratings on,
they don't have a TV radio reporter anymore,
so we don't know how the ratings are.
But I'm curious how the indie Minnesota game looked yesterday,
Detroit Green Bay, if it resonated in Houston.
Oh, I'm sure it was Gangbusters ratings, Matt,
for Colts Vikings in Houston.
Yeah, you're probably right.
Which, by the way, the Colts benching Anthony Richardson and then scoring, what, six offensive points?
Yes.
So I guess it could have been worse with Anthony Richardson.
At least he wouldn't turn the ball over a bunch, Joe Flacco.
Although he was the last one off the field at halftime, make sure he was high-fiving his teammates going to the locker room.
Yeah.
That's good.
Team player, team guy.
Yeah.
And not a good quarterback.
Not a good quarterback.
I mentioned us on Twitter yesterday.
The Texans are going to win multiple AFC South championships in the game.
the upcoming future.
Because the quarterbacks in this conference
in this division are absolutely horrendous.
Yes.
There's really no other way to say it.
713-212-5-790.
7-1-3-212-5-7-90.

Welcome back to the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Ross v. Real with you. Matt Thomas, of course, as well.
The man of the hour, Willie Fritz coming up in an hour.
Yeah.
To tell the truth at 120?
Okay.
I love to tell the truth because I love it when you get mad at me and you get mad at Connor and it becomes an uncomfortable time of conversation.
Well, general, your shakes are bad.
Now, you hit the, was that on to tell the truth or was that?
I can't even remember what it was when you said Dodgers in five and I was like that was ridiculous.
I think it was a good feeling, I think is one of us.
I can't remember.
Nothing better than having a coworker who have worked with for a long period of time and I'll name and will not name this.
person. Okay. She came out to me, I was
going to the bathroom here during the break and she's like, man, you
sound great inside the arena. I'm like,
I haven't done that in four years,
but thanks.
She didn't know what to say after that.
She goes, well, you look good at least.
That's good. That's actually a great
recovery by her. She had to, she came
up with that lie really quick.
Yeah.
I'm sorry. That's fine.
I mean, you know,
checks are clear.
You're doing great, Matt.
You're doing a good job on the call now
The reality is
If they can win some more
I'll be on the highlights more
And people will actually recognize me more for doing it
You make more
Uprorious and energetic calls
As if the team is winning and being in close games
Yeah
But you know
Still people trying to segue into the
Matt not doing PA anymore
And doing the full-time radio
And this is my fourth year of doing full-time radio
But that's not the here there
Yeah
We'll talk with some people
You're doing great
Let's talk to a Max in Pearland on 790 and 1236. Max, good afternoon.
Gentlemen, hello.
Minnesota was cut above Indianapolis last night.
Their defense didn't give flacco time to get much going.
And Sam Darnold, bless us heart, made some nice plays and one particularly ugly interception.
So, all right.
The basketball game Saturday night, the Rockets.
Yes.
I forgot they were on because I was so.
enjoying South Carolina's rally in the second half.
I saw some trolling yesterday about some people not playing too much,
and the coach should be fired because he wasn't letting Green do this and that and the other.
And what happened?
Well, it wasn't green.
It was, well, he didn't play a whole lot.
I mean, he still was in the 30s.
But Alper and Shengu did not play very much in the second half of the game on Saturday night.
and Alpi has got some
truthers out there on the Twitter streets
that think he can do no wrong
and they were not pleased with the fact
that he was not out there during the key moments
of the fourth quarter
and in the overtime session.
So he was enjoying, shall we say, a learning experience?
Well, that's, I mean,
the reality is, and this has been EMA's ammo
since he's gotten here, is that if I got guys
that are giving me the full effort, 100%,
they're helping me with a comeback.
remember they were down 31 to eventually take the lead by one point in the game.
I'm going to ride with those guys.
And so he doesn't look at contracts.
He doesn't look at how famous a particular player is or how big his fan base is.
He's going with the guys that help him he thinks win games.
And he thought the Tari Easton combination and Jabari Smith being out there a lot of minutes
and a little bit of Aaron Holiday late down the stretch was what helped the Rockets.
Are you okay?
I'd like to see us get better.
Hey, did Smith play any center or was Davis?
out for the
comeback.
What Davis?
Stephen?
Stephen Davis.
I got his name.
Steven Adams.
Stephen was not active.
Stephen, he was inactive for the game.
And he's questionable for tonight.
He's still recovering from his injuries.
He's going to be questionable the whole season.
Yeah, I'm questionable the entire season too.
Thanks, Max, for the phone call.
We appreciate you listening.
713-212-5-790.
7-1-3-212.
2570. I got a tweet in Ross,
and I thought we'd just go ahead and ask you
directly. Okay, I responded, but go ahead.
Oh, did you? Okay. The question was,
Hey, SportsM-TM, looking through UT's basketball
scheduled to find the U of H game. Nothing.
Maybe UT just didn't have a scheduling availability.
Maybe it was a money issue, looking for
plausible reasons here. And
your response was?
Only playing teams with championship
winning history, like Yukon, Syracuse,
NC State, Ohio State. So,
unfortunately, UH didn't make the cut.
And then Scott comes in
says, ah yes, perennial title contender, Arkansas Pine Bluff.
There's no room in the schedule for U of H.
and 4. Are y'all playing Arkansas Pine Bluff, seriously?
Yeah.
Jesus.
Okay, don't make me, you want me to go, you're starting,
your team is starting their season with Jackson State.
We're playing Auburn this weekend at the 2K under,
championship down at the TOTA Center.
I just mentioned, Texas is playing, yeah, it's a mix.
Everybody does a mix.
What's the problem?
Mr. Jackson State over here, don't make me run through the list.
I'm pulling it up.
Oh, Louisiana.
out of raging Cajuns after that.
Hofstra?
Very academically inclined.
Okay. Then Alabama and Notre Dame.
And Butler's not good anymore, but that's fine.
Stop. Troy, Toledo, and Texas A&M, Corpus Christi.
You can go beat up on the Islanders?
That's not right.
Leave those good folks in Corpus Christi alone.
It's bad enough they have to live in Corpus Christi.
You know, I've only been to Corpus Christi.
one time of my life. It's actually nice. I'm 52 and I've been there one time. And I know this is
going to sound crazy to a lot of you here, Estonians. You can see your feet in the water there.
Oh my God. What is wrong with you? But why have... I'm just saying, the water is actually
clear. Why haven't we gone to Corpus Christi more often? I love Corpus Christi. I think it's great.
They have a little downtown strip. I can't remember what it's called. But their campus looks
beautiful. They have a nice arena. There's Mustang Island is over there. Puerto Ranzas. It's a nice area.
And again, you can actually see...
But Port A is not really Corpus Christi, though, is it?
No, it's in the area, though, right?
But you can actually see your feet in the water.
And you can go see the Salina statue.
I mean, you can go...
Yeah, but that lasts about a minute.
You can go to a Hooks game.
I want to go to Hooks.
Outdoor baseball in the summertime, I think.
Is the original Waterberg?
I don't think it's still up.
But is it?
I'm not sure.
But that...
If you're trying to sell the original Nutter Ruger,
that's not a selling point in money here, don't they?
Not on our station.
That's fine.
But in the company.
Let's talk to Roger, northwest side of 1241.
Hi, Roger.
Good afternoon, Matt.
Nice discussion about the Houston sports seat,
but I just want to do one thing in particular
and talk about these rockets.
I just don't see how Utokas philosophies working with, you know,
I know you want to put the guys that give the most effort in money time,
and that's cool and everything.
But how can explain Fred Van Feet's usage with all these games
with this horrible shooting percentage?
I just don't see it.
I just don't...
First of all, that kind of usage percentage is not going to last the season
will be injured or something or something will give out.
There's no way.
First of all, you did draft.
You did grab Breed Shepherd.
Not the third round.
He's drafted as a third pick of the draft overall.
You're going to have to use the guy,
and you're going to have to give him some minutes.
So I'm not seeing where that philosophy's, you know,
working out as whether he's just, like, don't want to plan.
He's not giving it.
tractors. I ask you
because you're the guy with the ear to the street.
Yeah, yeah. That's a
great conversation. Thank you, Roger, for the phone.
It sounds like you get a little thunder shower on the background.
You're calling us in the shower, which is. Is it raining?
It's been, often on the last place.
You know, I,
Reed Shepard and a man
Thompson,
and a man was out there a bunch. He just had to play the
combo gar. I mean, he was in there because Jeline Green was
struggling. I mean, you can't put,
the argument is, yeah, does Reed
Shepherd ultimately, could he be good enough to be the
running the point for this basketball team, yeah, but he's in game number six of his NBA career.
And right now he just looks like he's just going, not through the motions, but just watching and looking and going,
oh my God, this game is big.
That's the feel I get too.
It's like he's kind of watching the games more than participating in early on.
He needs to be more aggressive.
There's no doubt.
I think the game's moving a little fast for him.
If you remember, I'm in Thompson, went to the G League for a little bit, but when he started.
Did I barry Smith Jr. do it too?
I know Jalen Green started immediately.
No, Cam Whitmore did. I know for that.
Cam, yeah, Cam Whitmore.
So, I mean, they didn't give Reed Shepard.
They put him right into the fire and put him in the rotation.
And he got 15 plus minutes the first couple of games.
But then Coach Udoka said, you know what?
I'm not seeing the impact I want to see.
So he's throttled his minutes a bit.
Yeah.
And it's not like Shepard has been great out there and then Yumae Doka's holding him back.
Right.
You do want to give him some experience and some seasoning.
But Coach Udoch is trying to win games.
But I do believe there was a thought of Reed could come in here,
maybe not in the first 10 games, but by mid-season whatever,
and be a rotation guy.
And I think that the plan is we end the number three pick in the draft
and a guy that was brought in to be a pure shooter
to have a guy like that if you come off the bench.
I'm presuming off the bench because Fred's going to start,
but to be that kind of instant score perimeter guy
that unnights where maybe Fred can't shoot.
And to his own acknowledgement,
has not shot the ball well at all at any point this season.
And he's going to get better.
And yeah, if we're talking about game 41 midway of the season and Reed Shepherd still playing three, five minutes a night, then yeah, he's riding on the bench.
He needs to be in the G league or something.
Yeah.
Early on, games moving fast for him.
Clearly a little deer in headlights to me.
And he'll get better.
Yeah, I think right now the game is just moving and it breakneck speed.
713-212-5-790.
7-1-3-212.
We'll hear from Willie Fritz at 130 to tell the truth, 120.
And D'Amico today at 2 o'clock.
with the press conference. Believe it or not today, rest in peace to the greatest
music producer in the history of music. Quincy Jones
passing away at the age of 91. 1244, Sports Talk 790.
The Matt Thomas Show.
Back to it. On Sports Talk 790.
Home of the Stroes.
That's one.
That's two.
And I think that's probably about right.
All right, go ahead. What do you got? Unless we were doing this on the ticket.
At Adam Schifter, Cowboys quarterback,
Dak Prescott is expected to miss, quote, several weeks,
end quote, with a hamstring injury per source.
He is seeking a second opinion to confirm treatment options.
Whoa.
That means Cooper Rush, C.J. Stroud, Monday Night Football.
Bump, bum, bum.
I don't they're going to sell that one.
They're going to put it on ESPN Plus.
I have to watch the Manningcast on that one.
Oh, come on, Cooper.
You know there's a Rockets game at night, too.
Oh, there is?
So, yeah, you're going to be overseas anyway.
What are you worried about?
By then, I don't...
Yeah, you're right.
No, no, that's the 11th.
I won't be gone yet.
Oh, yeah, you're right.
No, you're going to be gone.
I'm thinking...
This Thursday night's bit is throwing me off.
How do I know your schedule better than you knew your own schedule?
That's what I'm concerned about.
I'm going to miss my flight.
Yeah, I will be.
I won't be. I won't be catching that one.
God, you cannot miss your flight.
I won't.
But I'm saying you really can't miss your flight.
Oh, I know.
And hopefully you don't get any bad weather.
Why are you looking like that?
And what is wrong?
You're an awful human being.
What is wrong with you?
I'm already going to be on a 16-hour flight.
You'll be fine.
Okay.
Yeah, we have to have it.
We're going to do a segment before you leave because you're here all this week and all next week, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
We're going to have to do, how does Ross kill 16 hours?
Oh, it's easy.
I'll sleep for half of it and read a book and watch a movie.
Done.
Are you sure you can sleep for half of it?
Yeah.
Man Captain Plus, baby.
I got room.
Oh, look at you, big spender.
Good for you.
I'm happy you're spending a serious cash like that.
I got a hookup.
Yeah.
Somebody I know got status.
What's that right?
Yeah, it ain't me.
You can fly with me, but I'm not going with you.
Yeah, I know.
I'll let you be my status, bitch, if you want to.
Someday I would love to.
7-1-3-212.
5-790. Maybe he called
that I'll be your status, bitch, sometimes. Yeah, that feels like
a clip. Let's talk to Frank in the north side
on 790. Hi, Frank.
Hey, how's it going on now?
Good. Say, my thing
with the Rockets, if
we don't get the five of the
six seat, I'm ready to get
rid of the coach.
Because
he had the same, that's why he got rid of
him in Boston. He couldn't pick
the lineup. He always
kept juggling the lineup, taking
the wrong people out at the wrong time
and that's the issue we have in here
that's not why he got let go
in Boston. That's not
the reason. Hold on hold a hold on
Frank. Frank, he was the coach for the Celtics
for one season and they won the Eastern Conference
Championship. But that
team was already put together when he got
that job. Okay, but that's
not the reason why he got let go though. That's a big
too accurate. And we got kids
list. I know.
But anyway, but anyway, is why are we giving Fred Van Fleet this pass?
I mean, you know, he ain't shooting in a slump.
What did I just say in the previous segment?
I said he's shooting terribly.
We should be starting Amir Thompson in his fight.
We got to do him like we did Sam Cassell and Kennethville,
one and four or you know how
Rudy did them
that's what I'm looking at him because
every time we get a good team
they always posting them up
and his defense he can't guard nobody
at 6 3 or 6 4 he
he he don't guard his defense
ain't worth the crap
so we got to put somebody in there
and there's no way in the word
you're going to tell me Amir Thompson
it's a man time
not a mirror, but that's not the hearing of there.
So it's fine.
Then we drafted him as a point guard.
The Rockins drafted him as anything.
He can do a bunch of different things card.
He's played the four, the three, the two, and the one so far as a Houston rocket.
He's kind of playing point cards for the way on the game Saturday.
And he's been playing more point than anything else, for sure.
That's what I'm saying.
Well, and then we're going to have a, if we don't make a trade, that's going to push
read back.
Because if we bring in Amir to the starting lineup,
Van Fleet, he got to play, he got to give his minutes according to his contract.
He got to play so many minutes.
No, that's not true.
What are you talking about?
There's no minutes.
Frank, I love you.
You're just making stuff up.
First of all, you said the whole firing thing in Boston is one thing.
And then you keep calling him Amir Thompson, which is I can get past it the first or second time.
But the third time is, you know, a little bit.
And then there's no minutes required.
NBA players do not sign contracts that I must play 28 minutes a night.
I mean, I know it sounds cool and everything, but that's just not true.
Could you imagine sitting next to Frank on a 16-hour flight?
Ooh.
We can make that.
Frank, would you like to go overseas with Ross?
Thank you.
My goodness.
I mean, I love Frank.
Me, me make it a bunch stuff up.
I appreciate you, Frank.
Frank's at the barbershop with us just talking to the sport.
You're like, what are you talking up?
We're going to have to bring it a live.
fact checker for this.
Imagine if we had to buzz Frank every time he said something
factually wrong.
Wouldn't want that at all.
We should do that on the show.
Challenge flag.
I need that fact check.
Hey, Connor, I'll tell you this.
I get a lot of people still send me email saying,
hey, what happened to Lou Rawls?
Again, you have free
and clear guidance to run Lou Rawls
whenever you want to.
I thought about it, but you guys kind of had the back and forth going.
No, no, no.
Lou always saves.
the day. Never feel like you can
pull the plug on... And especially when
we're getting close to break. Yeah, we're going to
break now. 1256.
Connor keeps us on the clock. 713
212.790.
713-212-5-790.
The Tell the Truth is coming up in 20 minutes.
Wonderful. I've got...
I'm not going to tell you what it is because I don't want to give it away.
It's a variety of local issues
to discuss on
believe in or on the Tell the Truth.
Willie Fritz at 130 joins us here on
790. 1256 with a message here for the good folks at big city wings.
Big on wings, big on sports, big on Monday night football tonight, big on watching rockets.
And what you can do is you can get one dollar chicken tenders at any of the 13 big city wing locations.
34 ounce big brew tonight.
450 domestic.
5.50 in the big brew premium from 3 o'clock until 11.
You're not going to go wrong with eating cheap and drinking cheap at big city wings with 13 Houston area locations.
They've got wall-to-wall TVs, a great place to go and hang out with your friends.
And most importantly, it's a great place to watch sports.
You're going to watch sports, eat your $1 chicken tenders, get yourself some appetizers.
And the fried Orioles for dessert are, I would say clearly the number one dessert in Houston, Texas.
Big on wings, big on specials, $450 and $5.50 big brews and $1 chicken tenders at Big City Wings and Big City Wings and Big City.
Wings.com.
Launch timers.
This is the Matt Thomas show.
Lots of headlines to get to here
on the second hour of the Matt Thomas show.
Dennis Allen, the Saints coach, has been fired.
Zero surprise on that.
You start the year 2 and 0
with two very impressive wins,
and then you get your ass kick seven straight weeks.
Was that why Gordy had a little extra pep in his step today?
Yeah.
I think he wanted somebody named Robeshoe
or Arsino
or Tibidot or Tibido
to coach the team.
Speaking of
Timbado,
Tom Thibbido will be in town
Knicks and Rockets
tonight inside Toto Center
will have the broadcast
for you beginning
with the launch pad
at 630,
then a tip time at 745.
Every NBA game tonight
is staggered by 15 minutes.
Wow.
And they're saying,
do this because we want
everybody to know
that we're not going to be around
tomorrow so you can go vote.
Huh.
I thought it was,
I thought it was to get like
like a red zone feel on league pass or something.
They should do that every night.
It wouldn't be a terrible thing, but I think people would complain.
I don't think people are overly excited about tonight being 745.
It's a school night.
I know you're not happy about it.
You're tired already.
I'm taking a little nap after.
Get you some coffee after.
Nah, I'll take a nap.
Napping a coffee, you'll be good to go.
Napa.
It's perfect.
Okay, what else we got going on?
The Raiders fired a bunch of offensive assistants.
Yes.
What's the point?
I mean, my God.
Yeah, I can't believe you guys couldn't turn Gardner Minshu.
into an offensive force along with Jacoby Myers and Trey Tucker.
Like, come on.
And Alexander Madison, who's been washed for like five years.
Also, Dak Prescott out in significant time with a hamstring injury,
which means he will definitely miss the game against the Texans a week from Monday.
A lot of primetime games.
You don't want to celebrate injury, but for the Texans, that's good.
By the way, I meant to ask you about this.
Speaking of celebrating injury, you did the show on Friday when I was up in College Station.
How was the audience feeling about Kenyon Green missing the year with a shoulder injury?
We didn't really take any calls on that.
And again, you don't want to celebrate your injury.
But the Texans should be better on the field without him.
You would think.
Unless Kendrick Green and Jared Patterson, when he gets back out of concussion protocol,
just couldn't win the job in practice because they weren't good enough.
The reality is, I think in sports, I'm not going to say it's okay,
but it's understandable.
Does that make sense?
I agree with you.
I agree with that statement.
That's a good way of framing it.
Because I can't believe any serious Texan fan, except like Darlane, who doesn't care
with the results, when she heard that Kenyon Green was hurt.
She said, who is Kenyon Green?
First of all, she said, who is that?
What does he do?
And number three, he's like, well, he's one of ours, so we're obviously, he feels terrible
for him.
The reality is, in the game against the Jets, and I was calling Rockets,
I was kind of peeking in on that.
He was getting his lunch eating by Quinn and Williams.
He was absolutely horrific.
Quinnon Williams was taking his lunch money and hanging upside down by his feet every snap.
That's what you missed.
Yeah.
Every time I would go check on it during a break or during halftime, it was a straw being pressured and or sacked.
Yes.
And it was everybody.
But Kenyon Green has been the worst offender.
And unfortunately, he's become, he's taking some of the heat.
I'm sir, Shaq Mason and Titus Howard are like, yeah, Kenyon Green.
Yeah, don't talk about us.
Talk about Kitty Green.
Because they've been getting up pressure.
Juice drugs, like, man, get out of here, man.
I'm doing my job.
No, you're not.
Exactly.
So he is bearing the brunt of what has been in totally bad offensive line in terms of giving up pressure.
Yeah.
So, needless to say, I was curious what the reaction of the said audience was.
I know Twitter was basically, sorry that you're hurt, but you sucked.
Yeah, and that's the thing, too.
These anonymous accounts on Twitter are like, yeah, they're celebrating.
You wouldn't say that in public, but that's why Twitter is a housecape.
Nobody wants anyone to get hurt.
I wasn't happy Kenyon Green
ripped his shoulder out and has to have surgery.
Nobody wants to go through that.
But the reality is, it's not a loss.
The reality is he's
rated as the worst guard
in football so the Texans can't get worse.
Yeah.
The worst is, whoever his replacement is
will also be the worst guard in football.
That's basically it.
Yeah. What else are going on? Oh, by the way,
my son went to the Dynamo soccer game
last night where they ended their season.
And normally I can give two craps about that.
But the reality is this.
I said, you know, what happened last night?
Their two best players got red-carded.
Hector Herrera and who else?
I don't know who the other guy is.
I honestly wasn't even watching.
Hector Herrera got red-carded.
He spat on the umpire or the referee.
That is, who was Sandy Elamar?
Which Al-A-Mar did that?
Roberto Al-A-Mpar.
Was it Roberto Al-A-Lammer?
I think so.
Yeah.
Spit on an empire?
And he was apologetic for it and all that sort of things.
And the reason why I saw it was because Daniel Lerner,
who's a reporter for The Chronicle, was covering the game last night.
And she said the Dynamo, and her tweet declined to make Hector Herrera available after the game.
And Chandler-Rome said?
I didn't say what he said.
Oh, you didn't see Chandler-Rob's response?
No.
I'll pull it up.
You can guess what his is.
Clom behavior from an organization that should be happy it's getting any coverage.
I want you to read that again. Read that again.
Chandler's the best.
Clown behavior from an organization that should be happy it's getting any coverage.
Let me go look at his responses.
Chandler, I love Chandler for being.
Chandler is always Chandler.
I get what you're saying, and that's annoying the Dynamo did that,
but don't minimize and act like the Houston Dynamo are completely forgotten about.
Noah, yes, they are.
Chandler then says,
they should act like they're relevant and facilitate good coverage for reporters following their own,
their team.
He's absolutely right.
Protecting players when they spit on an official?
Come on, man.
Then Alberto with a bunch of numbers says,
if it's a bother for you to cover Houston sports teams,
then maybe you don't deserve to have a career covering Houston sports.
Do your blanking job and stop bitching on a professional clown reporter.
Ooh, did Chandler respond to that?
And Chandler did not yet.
He probably just blocked him and moved on.
He's not bitching about covering the teams.
He's bitching about the media relations department should make
their players available if there was a huge
incident as him spitting on an
official. And the final game of the season
and you're the star player, right?
I'm assuming. You should be made available
to the media.
Even if you don't mean it. Say you're sorry, don't
mean it. Move on.
Instead,
for the, and apparently the crowd of the
I watched the video highlights. There was a great crowd of the game.
I don't know what the exact number was, but it looked like
the stands were pretty full. They fit 20K
in there. Yeah.
So, there goes that.
That's the dynamo conversation for the year.
But, you know, they've got a niche audience.
My son being one of them.
He's big into it.
He's ridiculously big into it, but way more than he should be, but that's a different issue for a different time.
You know, I mean, it's a first round playoff game and you're going to go spit on a guy.
I mean, give me, I mean, how immature can you be?
But that's soccer.
That's soccer for you.
Soccer canones violence.
Soccer condones hitting guys and nads all the time.
Faking injuries and rolling over.
Faking injuries and rolling over does happen.
But flopping happens in basketball.
Not to the level of soccer, though.
Flopping happens in the NFL as well.
It does.
The NBA is really, I think, number two.
Yeah.
The NBA can flop like a moda.
And I say it every now.
I mean, I'm seeing it myself.
So I'm not saying that the sport that I cover doesn't do it as well.
But also, you and I, what do we think when somebody flops in the NBA?
We don't like it.
And when you're watching soccer, also, fans don't like when players flop either.
I would assume yet.
Those that are not like watching go, what are you doing here?
Wow, that was a fantastic flop.
We soccer fans hate flopping too.
We know it's a bad part of the game.
Yeah.
713212-570.
7-1-3-212-5-790.
If you want to jump in in our conversation,
we're going to have to tell the truth coming up in a few minutes.
And again, normally would not have Coach Willie on this week because they're off this week.
But when you beat Kansas State, that's, I mean, look.
Huge.
Can I just, I'm going to be, I'm going to peel the curtain a little bit.
Did you storm the field?
No.
Oh, you were in.
I was the Rockets.
Well, it wasn't a storming.
It was more like a get-together.
It was like a bunch of brohugs.
Yeah, it wasn't.
You can't storm when the stadium's half empty.
Well, it was what?
It would have been full of food.
How many sellouts this year?
Close to them.
But great win.
Fantastic.
Point being is this.
We were expected to win three games this year.
We were expected to finish, what, 15th out of 16 teams in the Big 12?
I said over.
Willie Fritz is a good football coach.
I said it.
Smash higher.
So, look, if you.
are, if you have a lot of money, please send some to the U of H collectives, we can buy some players.
I mean, I'm going to be brutally honest with you.
Recruiting is important, but buying players is more important.
I'm getting my pocket mirror for you.
Why is that noise?
My.
What is that?
I have been able to determine that my voice is worth several hundred thousand dollars a year.
Okay.
To the University of Houston.
You're bringing in the donations.
I like that.
Yeah. Chaos in the Big 12, right?
had Kansas State losing and Iowa State losing to Texas Tech.
Yeah.
Who's winning the league?
I read on Twitter versus Colorado.
Colorado could do it.
Colorado's got a really easy schedule the rest of the way.
Uh-oh.
That'd be cool.
Look, the whole clown show over there in Colorado is it can get bad, but it's entertainment.
But the question is, can he really coach?
Or does he surround himself with outstanding lieutenants?
which again, that's a good CEO does that,
puts himself around good people.
But I don't know,
is he a guy that literally gets
into the room, shuts the door,
turns the film on and go, let's go,
let's break this bad boy down.
I can't answer that question.
Nor can I. Let's talk to Brian
before we play the Tell the Truth. Brian,
you're on 790. Good afternoon.
Hey, good afternoon, guys.
Matt, real quick on the ring donkey,
what's normally the best practice for this.
Now that I'm advocating this, but normally when you get your picture, you're supposed to let it sit a little bit, let some of the carbonation out.
Yes, it's going to be a little bit flatter, but you can get to the bottom of it a little bit faster.
That's the ultimate way to do it.
That's the way I did it back many, many moons ago when I got my ring.
And it's generally after you've recruited 90 hours of credit.
So generally your end of your junior going into your senior year is when you do it.
So congrats to him on getting that.
It is a big deal.
But then wanted to get you all's thoughts on,
not of the fact that the Diamondbacks have picked up the option on Suarez,
you know, Ross, you talked about him possibly coming here,
maybe as a one or two-year option.
Do we think that increases the likelihood that they maybe have to expand their means
and go outside their comfort zone to resign Bregman with no other great options there?
Or do you all think maybe they try and piecemeal it together with,
Somebody like a montana for a year while they see what they have in Bryce Matthews and supplement in other places with like Whitcomb or Desenzo.
I'm going to say that whatever contingency plans they had, while Ayuhneal Suarez was part of it, I don't think he was their plan A.
So I don't know, without knowing that, I don't know that they're going to say, you know, well, Suarez is gone.
We got to lock up Bregman.
I just don't think it's going to happen that way.
If you believe, in which I believe, the Astros are not going to re-sign Brab.
Which I don't believe they are either.
I don't think they were thinking, Eugenio Suarez was the great option B.
I think they were thinking about this.
They were looking at their farm system.
They were looking at all options.
They were looking at other different free agents.
And they were not just narrowing it in a one player.
So I don't think to answer your question, Brian, the Suarez pickup by Arizona impacts the Astros' decision.
Maybe a tinge.
But it also does take Bregman off the list as a contender to retain the services of Alex Berk.
Correct. Correct.
So maybe there could be.
Because I always thought maybe Arizona was going to come in and try to spend some big money.
That was actually gut feeling missed by you, I think.
I think it was.
Because, again, he lives, he has a home, I think in the Arizona era in the office.
I'll put your name on that.
I'll check the archives.
I don't think I put my name on that.
I'm not sure.
We'll check the archives.
You probably make it up.
No, I won't.
713-212-5-790.
7-13-212-1-5.
790. Come on in, join us here today on a Monday edition of the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
713212-579. We'll play to Tell the Truth next, and we will talk with Willie Fritz coming up in about 15 minutes here on Sports Talk 790.
Matt Thomas returns on Sports Talk 790.
I do know how to tell the truth. I have four sports takes. Rossi, I only believe one of them.
It's up to you and Connor to figure out which one of the four I am telling the truth.
Are you ready?
Number one.
I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really believe that Nick Casero is going to make a trade by tomorrow's three o'clock deadline.
Not because he wants to, it's because Hannah's going to tell him to.
You just can't stand Pat with your number two receiver gone for the year.
here. You can't stand pat with your horrendously built offensive line in which you built yourself.
You've got to go, and I hate to say this, overspend of the deadline, give up some draft picks.
It's going to hurt. You've got to find somebody out of contention that's going to try to help this team improve its offensive line.
So Nick Casarrow in my mind, we'll make a trade by the three o'clock deadline tomorrow.
There's too much on the line here. Wow. Okay. Okay. Now, you're doing.
wing three you don't believe?
Correct. Okay.
This is tough.
Number two.
There was an Astros, there was a player.
The Astros were on the chase
for last year and off season
that was very close to signing with the Astros,
but ultimately to sign to go elsewhere.
Do you know what I'm speaking of?
No.
Blake Snell.
Oh, okay.
Blank Snell
got out of his contract,
opted out with this San Francisco Giants.
He is once again a free agent.
I think he wants to come play for the Astros.
I think he knows that Garcia may not be ready for the start of the season.
He does?
Blake's breaking it down?
I think he knows that Verlander money is available now.
Okay.
I think he knows that McCuller's isn't coming back,
or Kiti will never come back.
And I think at the end of the day,
Blake Snell is going to want to come play for the Houston Astros.
Whether or not it happens,
I think the Astros should severely kick the tires.
I'm bringing Blake Snell here.
Hey, come on a similar two or three-year deal
to come pitch for the Astros.
High dollar, low length of contract
because that's what we know that Jim Crane likes to do.
So the Astros, I think, should make a move for Blake Snell.
Number three.
the third base openings around baseball are not nearly as plentifuls we thought they were going to be.
I think when we hear a offer made by the Astros is going to be somewhere in the 5-150 range.
I believe the Astros are ready to offer him five years and $150 million.
Whether he takes it or not is likely very doubtful.
Like the money is good.
The years might not be good, but I think the Astros stay consistent and say the Astros will offer at least five years
and $150 million.
To Alex Breggman?
Alex Breggman.
Who do you think I was talking to?
I zoned out.
Okay.
I was trying to find a college basketball game to put on.
All right.
And number four,
the Dennis Allen-led Saints are no more.
Ooh.
Okay.
You know they should go get,
let's just stop wasting our touch.
As a head coach.
Uh-oh.
Go ahead.
Dion Sanders.
Oh, okay.
Dion is going to not want to follow any more rules.
The one thing you don't have to do in the NFL is follow any rules.
Don't have to worry about making sure kids go to class.
He can obviously coach.
He can obviously be a CEO.
And he can bring in good coordinators and good position coaches
and have a general manager do his heavy lifting
when it comes to paying the players and whatnot.
Because being Dion just isn't good enough.
It's Dion with cash at Colorado.
You can have the best of both worlds.
You can coach in the South.
You can coach against a team that you've played for before.
You get in the NFL, zero pressure with that.
If the Saints were smart, they would go kick the tires on Dion Sanders
and this whole charade of him being a college coach
when he is best served to be a man leading an NFL team.
And by the way, it would be a big, splashy hire
and something the Saints have not done since getting rid of Sean Payton.
So in my takes, here they are.
Number one, Casero is going to have to make a trade.
With his hand forced by Hannah McNair.
Correct.
Okay.
Number two, Astros should make a move for Blake Snell.
Number three, the Astros will offer at least five years and 150 to keep Alex pregnant as an astro.
And number four, if the Saints were smart, they would go get Dion Sanders to coach the Saints next year as a splashy hire for a team that needs some splash.
Which one of those four am I telling the truth?
McGovern?
Ross.
You want to give my thoughts?
You want to give your thoughts?
I'll give my thoughts if you'd like
I'll go first because I don't know what to think
I'd say two and four are out
I think
he knows that they're not playing for
they're not paying blakes now
and Dionne Sanders is not going in the NFL
I agree with that
I don't think Matt
holds Dion Sanders's coaching
acumen in high esteem
so I don't think that he would
hold that opinion
now
I would be I was ready to toss out number one
the second it came out
of Matt's mouth until he mentioned Hannah making the push for the move.
Yeah.
Now is that going to happen?
I don't know.
But remember, we have to get into the warped mind of Matt Thomas.
So does Matt Thomas believe that is one thing rather than will it happen, which, of course, we know on this segment he makes a lot of bad takes that don't come to pass.
That's another thing.
Those are great points.
And then three.
Hey, hey, let's give me nice.
I'm nice to you mostly.
And then three, I mean, three is reasonable, but I don't understand like they're going to make him an offer before he hits the market.
Are you saying before the...
I'm saying when we hear an offer.
When we hear that when somebody comes out, we're going to hear it's going to be $5.150.
When Chandler-Rom says sources close to the MLB sources say the Astros offered $5.150.
That's where I think they're going to be a.
Okay.
That's my take.
I mean, that's reason.
I think one and three are both reasonable.
That's where I have it.
Hurry up.
We've got to get to coach.
Okay.
Sorry.
You want to pick one.
I'll pick the other.
Yeah, yeah.
I'll go one.
You go three.
Okay, sure, let's go.
Let's do it.
One of us will be right.
All right.
Dionne Sanders has no coaching acumen.
You're right about that.
That was an easy one.
Yes, that was easy.
Number two.
I tried to keep a straight side.
The Astros are not going after Blake's now.
I'm sorry.
I would agree.
It's just way too much money for a guy that averaged five innings to start last year
and didn't even pitch the first two months of the year.
So no thank you.
My answer is this.
The Texans think they're really, really close.
They're going to have,
They cannot spend the next half of the season with this makeshift offensive line.
Hannah would make fun of at Neiman Marcus and at any of the stores she goes to.
She's going to go into Nick's office and say, I don't care what it takes.
You've got to go make a trade.
Okay.
And I put that on my Twitter account last week, too, so you used to call.
It was a little precursor for you there.
I saw you tweet that.
Yeah.
So that's what I believe.
Okay.
Not that I don't believe Brighman's going to offer, but it will, I think we're going to be very disappointed.
Just like we were with Carlos Curry got disappointed.
I think $5.150 is probably reasonable.
I hope so.
And I guess we'll see if you're right.
If the Texas make a trade, your take will be right.
Correct.
Ross, I'm not even a Texan fan.
They have to do it for your fandoms.
They have to do something.
They can't let this crap on the offensive line stay out there like that.
They just can't.
Right?
Tell me, they can't do it.
We'll see.
They have a little bit more leeway with Kenyon Green being out.
As in, I don't know, whoever was believing in Kenyon Green,
let's just say if it was Demico or if it was Casario,
that person, their battle is lost.
They do have to do something.
Yeah, that's my point.
All right, thank you.
That's this week's edition of The Truth.
Up next, Willie Fritz is our head coach of the University of Houston Cougars.
Big one against Kansas State.
And he'll join us after I tell you about Uptown Appliance Repair.
I want you to not worry about the various refrigerator or ice box or, excuse me,
wine cellar that is not working.

That's 281-758-9978.
The website is Uptown Appliance Repair.com.
Uptown Appliance Repair.com.
133.
133 on Sports Talk 7-9.
Let's spend a couple minutes now.
Normally we would give Coach Fritz the week off
and talk to him next week before the game against the Arizona Wildcats.
But when you beat the number 17 team in the country,
you've got to come on the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Coach, congratulations.
What an awesome Saturday it was at TDCU Stadium.
Yeah, it was.
Thank you very much for having me on, Matt.
It was really happy with the kids.
They just did a super job.
And, you know, there's some tough sled in there in the third quarter.
And we got out two scores.
And he just kept chipping away at it.
Played great in the fourth quarter.
I scored him.
14 to zero and won the time of possession as well and just really finish the ball game strong
for a big win at home. It's great to have the student body rush the field. There's just a
great memory for all of us. You mentioned time of possession for a team that is as balanced as
K state is offensively. I guess the best thing you can do, and that's your defense is doing
its job, is keeping guys off the field and letting you guys, you know, not trying to go for the big play
over and over again, but just get the five, six yards every single down,
keep the drive alive, and keep that Walcat offense off the field yourselves.
Yeah, they were averaging, I believe, 22 yards of game rushing.
We held them to 82 yards.
They had a, you know, their tailback is one of the leading rushers in the nation,
and defense played great.
You know, one of the things that happened this year is we had 63 new guys on the team,
and we had to figure out our strengths and weaknesses.
It's first time I've been through the Big 12, obviously,
and, you know, we've got a good defense, you know.
We've got to ride them and do a good job of playing penalty-free
and turnover free on offense, which we did for the most part.
And that allows us to, you know, stay in position to, you know, be able to win the game at the end.
I thought we had some big plays in the kicking game, making them go to the long field.
We do a stack called Hidden Yards.
You know, that's where our starting field position is for our offense.
you know, their starting field position for their offense.
We had 156 hidden yards.
So we were going shorter fields.
They were going longer fields.
And over four quarters, that really helps you out.
The game started about an hour later, which wasn't great, but it could have been a lot worse.
We've all been through longer delays than that.
How did you keep the guys amped up knowing that you weren't going to start on time on Saturday?
You know, we did a good job of that.
You know, obviously I've been in a few of these before.
You got to keep coaching them during that time period.
Get off your feet.
You know, every time there's a lightning strike,
it's another half hour before you can go out.
So we had a pretty good idea of when we're going to be able to come out.
You know, our guys, our redshirt guys, young guys,
that don't play a whole lot that are kind of going through a redshirt ear.
They really did a super job of keeping the energy and the juice,
especially when we're walking out the tunnel for the game after the hour to late.
and they did a great job at halftime as well.
Everybody's got a job to do, and those guys did their job to perfection,
keeping our guys hyped up.
Willie Fritz with us here on Sports Talk 790.
It's very rare that a quarterback has a perfect completion to a temp percentage.
Zeon was 11 of 11, and that's kind of what you needed him to do,
just take the intermediate pass, not trying to too dangerous.
It feels like his decision-making was never bad to begin with,
but it feels like it's getting better every single week for you.
well it is he's uh you know feeling more comfortable in the offense um you know we got to do a great job
protecting him getting open as well uh you know not not having minus play that's that's they're hard
to overcome and and uh we've done a good job of not putting us in those positions very often uh but
He was very accurate, and we need to do a good job of trying to improve our passing game.
That's going to be big force as well, coming down the stretch here.
How are you law on the guys to get some time off?
This is kind of strange, a second off week in one season.
I don't know how the schedule worked out that way, but he's going to give some guys a chance to maybe catch up on some classes,
maybe in the workouts.
What is the plan for the next handful of days?
Well, we lifted and met and put this game to bed this morning.
We're off tomorrow.
I'm encouraging all the guys to make sure they go out and vote.
And then we're going to practice on Wednesday and Thursday,
and then give them all Friday, Saturday,
and then come back on Sunday because we have a Friday game against Arizona
a week from this Friday.
So a little bit different schedule, but it's good for us right now.
It comes at a good time.
You know, you get this part of the season, everybody's beat up a little bit.
This will give the guys an opportunity to heal up
and get ready for the stretch.
That's run.
For I let you run.
Kansas State and Utah were considered two of the leading candidates to play in a Big 12 championship game.
And I think your program by itself did a job in maybe ruining those dreams for both of those schools.
And I know it's been a transition.
And these are a lot of these kids are not yours that you brought in originally and still trying to work through the kinks of building this program.
But to have these games mean so much of those other teams for you to surprise them, for these kids not to give up after some difficult times this year.
You've got to be really pleased every time you walk in the locker room
and want to work with these guys because they do want to get better.
They're not giving up on the season.
Well, you're exactly right.
All of them are my guys now.
And we've had so many problems and issues with going through adversity early in the year.
You know, it's been a lesson, I think, for all of us, you know,
just about, you know, fighting through adversity and keep going.
and being positive about things and not looking backwards,
whether you had success or maybe you didn't have success.
And just going forward, and the guys have done a good job of that.
And I'm just very, very proud of the effort that everybody in the programs,
you know, put forth so far this season.
Well, as an alum, thank you for your hard work, your kids' hard work.
It's so much fun seeing you play and the way you've bounced back last couple of weeks.
Get some time off of yourself if you can.
I know there's a grandchild that would love to see you a little bit in the next couple days.
Spend some time with him, and we will talk to you next week before that game against Arizona.
Thank you, Matt. I appreciate it.
All right. Thanks very much. Willie Fritz joining us here on the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
We appreciate him stopping by on this Monday as the Cougars beat Kansas State for a second straight win against a very, very good opponent.
And hopefully get out to see them play one more time.
Better will be the last home game of the year.
Two road games left to go at Arizona and an app.
by BYU. So there is
a small chance.
I'm not trying to put the cart before they have the horse.
They're four and five.
They'd have to go two and one to get to six and six,
which would make them bowl eligible.
And for a team that had,
I don't know, no recruits until
63 new players come in and get to a ball game in that first
year for Willie Fritz. I don't want to say it would be
a miracle, but it would be pretty damn close.
I would think it would speak to good coaching.
Willie Fritz is a good coach.
And I want him to stick around.
I just, I'm tired of the revolving door, my man.
I've got to be brutally honest with you.
I don't think he's.
How old is he?
He's going to be fine.
Yeah, he'd be fine.
And we're paying him a lot.
I mean, they're doing quite well.
That's good.
Big 12 money's not bad.
Yeah.
All right.
So, all right.
So we're going to focus this week on Texas, who they plan this week.
That would be the Florida Gators.
Hmm.
You're going to help that Florida coach get to the exit pretty quick here?
I'm not going to do anything.
I'm going to watch a game.
I'm thinking about going to the game.
In Austin, huh?
What times this game start?
It's 11 a.m.
I mean, I'm off at 3 on Friday.
Why all getting downgraded 11 a.m.?
Why don't you play it 2,30 like the big boys do?
It's Florida.
Are you all the big game kickoff?
It's not Big Noon, I don't believe.
Did you see what happened this weekend with Big Noon?
People were upset with Penn State, Ohio State, a big noon?
So the TV network's determined the times.
Yes.
So it's not anything to do with what Penn State did.
There's a draft, right?
And I think Fox gets...
They all rotate.
But some get networks get top priority over others.
And so the Big Noon, it was Fox's turn to pick the game.
And they said they want to put Ohio State Penn State on it noon Eastern time.
And that means they put their pregame show.
Well, Game Day went there.
And then Pat McAfee was making fun of the fact that he knew that a lot of Penn State fans did not want the game at 12 o'clock Eastern time.
And so he kind of made fun of Big Noon.
And they were screaming F bombs at Big Noon, the Fox pregame show.
And he goes, we got people in our area.
where's y'all's people at.
So it is weird how game day and Big Noon pre-game that?
That Fox would be able to go to a Fox game and have ESPN do their pregame show from there.
Because ESPN does no more Big Ten stuff.
They're done.
I didn't know that.
Yeah.
If you want to watch a Big Ten game, it's either on Fox or it's on CBS.
Yeah, but it's cool.
It's cool that Game Day goes to the big game, no matter if they have the game or not.
Yeah.
Was that the big game, though?
It was.
Every time I watch a Penn State game, I get utterly bored.
It was two top five teams.
Yeah, but James Franklin never beats top five teams.
Not usually.
Not usually.
I don't think he'd ever have done it.
I think it's one.
I think he's like one in ten or something?
Or is he Ointenton?
So Penn State loses again to Ohio State.
And James Franklin, I don't know if you said, this is, there's a video of this out there
on the streets.
He walks towards his locker room and some fan is just given him the business.
Oh, yeah?
About the lack of scoring that Penn State had late in the game.
And they had three trips.
inside the 10-yard line and got three points out of the three total trips.
This guy's probably 22, 23.
It doesn't look like a college student to me, but didn't look like he's, you know, 46 years old either.
And he is mouthing off at Franklin.
So James Franklin turns around and hears him and parts walking towards him.
Love it.
So this is James, so James Franklin is saying, what's your name?
Who are you? What are you doing?
Mm-hmm.
This 22-year-old, 23-year-old punk, did you see what he did?
No.
He just turned around and left.
He was protected by, he was in the stands.
Franklin couldn't come over the wall.
Yeah.
And the guy turned around.
I mean, he totally lost.
I love that.
You could smack talk coach when you have police security around you.
You can get away with it.
He did this the opposite.
I love that.
Did you see the guy that was yelling at Jason Kelsey and got his phone smashed?
I heard of.
I didn't see it, though.
There was a kid walking behind Jason Kelsey.
and screaming, your brother is a...
Yeah, a slur.
A slur for dating Taylor Swift.
Jason Kelsey turns around, grabs his phone, and grog spikes it into the ground,
smashing the phone, then he picks the phone up and walks away.
Jason Kelsey does.
That was awesome.
Now, that's equally awesome.
I would have loved for the guys for Franklin and the kids, or whoever the adult was,
to just have a good old-fashioned knockdown.
He just turned around and took off.
These kids are too used to.
They're hiding behind their screens.
They're talking trash.
And what happens in the world?
Sometimes you're going to get confronted.
And a lot of these kids ain't ready for that.
And the best thing you can do is if you're going to confront, finish it off.
Don't leave.
You got to talk about it.
You got to be about it.
That's how it used to work in the world before these internets and these social medias, Matthew.
You got that right.

The Matt Thomas show continues on Sports Talk 790 where Rockets and Astros play and real Texans talk.
151 on Sports Talk 790.
Domingo Ryan's is going to speak to the media coming up in a few minutes.
What do you think he's going to say?
We're actively answering phone calls.
We're dialing up making some phone calls.
We're going to try to figure out what's going on.
We're always looking for ways to improve the team, whether that would be internally and externally.
And that's more of a question for Nick.
And I do have questions for Nick, and we talk all the time, and the line of communication is open as far as how we can improve the team.
And all options are on the table.
So let me ask you this.
We do this all the time when we talk about the Astros trade deadline.
We don't normally do it with the Texans of the NFL because the NFL trade deadline has largely been anticlimactic.
If the Texans don't make a move for alignment, and the difference is we don't know line men per se that are available.
Like in baseball, we have an idea of
Detroit's got a second basement
they're willing to move. Or we have a
outfielder with the Angels.
Or there's a pitcher available for the
Phillies. So we can identify.
It's hard for the average person to identify
oh,
the Panthers right guards available. You know what I mean?
It's harder. We can't, we don't
look into it that way.
I've heard the name Andrews Pete from the Raiders.
Okay. Who was a former pro-bowler
and he's on the Raiders.
When people call our show,
and we talk about the Astros,
especially around the trade downland.
We've given them,
not the mandate,
but the heavy suggestion
to Dana Brown
and to,
what's his name,
James Click,
you've got to do something.
You can't,
we're not going to be able
to get over the hump.
The Astros cannot get over the hump.
This is exactly how I feel about the Texans.
I just don't know the frame of reference
of players that are being discussed.
If the Texans don't make something done
by 3 o'clock,
Tomorrow, Ross, that's a huge red flag to say that either they're not all in or the price was too rich, but I can't imagine price.
They're ready to roll with their guys, baby.
Jared Patterson season.
That can't be there.
Yeah, no.
No, Jared Patterson for two weeks, not for life.
Okay.
To me, that feels like that there is, uh, that what we see and what they see are two different things.
And at least in the Astros case the last couple of years, what we saw needing a starting pitcher,
needing an extra bat, needing an extra bullpen arm, the Astros have not acquiesced and said,
okay, well, the media says it, no, but I'm saying that we're getting the same glimpse that they are.
What are the Texans, if they don't make a move seeing that we're seeing right now?
If they don't make a move, they're happy with Jared Patterson or Kendrick Green,
they're saying they can't be any worse than Kenning Green, or maybe even better.
Maybe the team improves internally that way.
and we can communicate with our guys and our problems are internal.
They're not going to get addressed externally.
I think the Texans' relationship with its fans is an all-time high right now.
Not that you should do anything for the fans, but it is a component of life.
No, no, I do.
I mean, it's not a big part, but it's a small component.
I don't think Nick Casario is thinking about the fans at all.
So tell me again what, if he doesn't make a move,
what he's really putting in
trust? We don't know. What is
the market? What is it costing?
What are the cap implications?
We're not seeing anybody right now in the NFL.
All the trades have happened so far in the NFL.
There has not been one that has been mind-blowing in terms of what you've had to give up.
Right.
It just hasn't been.
But it also, I mean, we have to go through every single team's cap space and their future cap space and all that type of stuff.
It's easy in baseball.
Trade them and pay them.
But in football, you have cap implications for everything you do.
Yeah, and look, I can't imagine anybody is cash flush right now.
Normally you don't know.
You do keep some money in reserve for guys that you want to sign middle of a season.
So I'm sure that has done that too, yeah.
But if you're talking about giving up a future fourth or a fifth for somebody that can come in here and step in right away and start on your offensive line that you think could seriously be better than anybody that's here, you've got to make that move.
You're going to get your quarterback killed.
and not literally, but figuratively.
He's already getting killed.
And like I said, maybe they're saying
Kenyon Green is gone
and we're going to get better that way.
But to say that it was only Kenyon Green's fault
for why the Texans struggled on the line.
I think it's overly simplistic too.
But you were talking about making a trade
and that would be Kenyon Green's spot.
You're probably not going to trade somebody
to start in Juice Krug spot.
You're certainly not trading somebody
to start in Shaq Mason's spot
with what you're paying him.
But aren't you bringing in somebody here
to maybe force some competition
and maybe somebody's having a bad day.
You're being somebody to plug and play.
You'd be bringing somebody in to start along that offensive line.
And the easiest place to plug right now is your left guard,
who was the worst in football and then is now out for the season.
I'm just, I think if you watch the game against the Jets
and you watch this offensive line this year,
to say it's only Kenyon Green's fault is being overly too simplistic.
I would agree, but they're not going to,
I don't think they're going to trade for a center or trade for a right guard.
so it's going to be left guard
is where they're going to trade.
All right.
Let's hear what D'emiko has to say about this coming up in a couple of minutes.

Believe it or not today, Quincy Jones,
91 years. What a life.
The greatest music producer
in the world.
A titan of the industry.
I don't know very many music producers.
Dr. Dre?
Clive Davis.
I'm going to be a tap out after that.
What is the guy, Phil Spector?
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
calling that one. Was Barry Gordy
doing a lot of producing? I mean, Isaac Hayes
did a lot. I'm so proudy. Thank you for being deeper than I'm on this.
Rudy Van Gelder
did a lot of great jazz production.
George Martin was the long time producer for the Beatles.
Oh, yeah, that's true.
Yeah. And that's going to take care of that day.
So ultimately, that's what we've got.
We have, man,
I mean literally generational
I want to say
producer
now this will be for believe it or not
I want to say he has the record
for a solo
like one person winning Grammys
most Gramies
he's got like 23 Grammys or something
You're going to be looking that up
I know so believe it or not today
all things about
the passing of one of the greats
well maybe the greatest right
I'm gonna go yeah
I'll go with greatest
okay
713212-2-5
790, 7122-1-790.
We'll be talking with you
over the next hour or so after we
hear from Domeco. We also have a
farewell to a former astro.
We can say he's a
former astro, and we'll have that coming up
in about 15 or so
minutes from now. Okay, I lied. Beyonce has the record.
She's got 32. Quincy Jones, third
with 28 Grammy wins.
So who is Quincy Jones most
associated with? Michael Jackson
probably in the popular sphere. Solo.
Not Jackson as a group.
is a solo artist?
Yeah, Michael Jackson, he did off the wall and thriller.
Two of the greatest albums of all time.
He did arrangements with Ray Charles.
They met as teenagers.
That'll be a question, by the way.
And he arranged a lot of the Frank Sinatra stuff.
And he arranged maybe the most difficult song ever performed by a collection of people.
Oh, we are the world.
We are the world.
Yes.
You know what?
I got a tribute question for you.
Believe it or not, I will put We Are the World on my phone and listen to it once a month, at least.
I'll say believe it.
You should believe it.
Okay.
But yeah, when you
when you are
part of the careers
and success of Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra,
and Michael Jackson,
I mean,
you're pretty much the goal.
Pretty, pretty good.
Pretty good.
Yeah.
All right.
I believe,
did he get a presidential?
Let's go to Domeco right now.
What are some common threads you're seeing
with the line and treasures
you guys try to get this score?
Yeah, for our team right now,
we all have to play better.
Every position,
we all have to play better.
It's not one position.
Everybody has to play better
for us to win games.
Going forward,
is everybody playing better.
Do you just make any changes to the offense block?
I will look at that
as we continue to go throughout the week.
That is right now, again,
everybody has to play better.
What's available to you
that maybe you haven't tried to help the past block
and get more on track?
Yeah, it's not just,
to know everybody's focus is just on the past blocking and of course we've had some bad reps in the past blocking but it's it's everybody working together it's an entire offense working together right it's never just one thing right and i know it's easy to point the finger at one thing it's never just one thing it's all 11 guys working together being in sync
How much do you think?
You know, CJ, utilizing his checkdown just a little bit more,
it could help mitigate and alleviate some of that pressure.
Yeah, when I talk about everybody playing better, it's everybody.
It's the quarterbacks, the tight ends, it's the receivers,
our entire offense, right?
Our entire defense, our special teams unit, that's where I'm at.
We can hone in on different spots and all those.
It doesn't matter.
Each position, no matter what it is, from top to the bottom.
we all play better, we'll be in position to win games.
There you go to the other line.
Obviously the past block isn't getting a lot of attention,
but the run block he's been pretty good with Joe.
Can you put that in perspective what he's been able to
straight together as he last several weeks?
Joe's been dynamic for us.
I think every time he touches the ball,
he's going to gain some type of positive yardage.
And that goes to, right, all that credit goes to how the guys are blocking up front.
They do a great job of blocking it in the run game.
We had a lot of, a lot of lanes available in the run game.
and Joe runs the ball with that, you know, relentless mindset, physical running guys over, you know, playing the game the right way.
He brings a passion.
He brings the edge to the game that everybody can feed off of.
During your time as overseeing the defense, it seems like whether there's injuries, whether it's putting guys in the right place, they seem to step up and you put them in the best place to succeed.
Do you have the confidence on offense that when it comes to these protection things, the staff can do the same thing?
Yeah, for all of us, it's just coaches, right?
It's all of our job to put our guys in position, right, to be successful, right?
And it's our player's job to go out and execute and play to the best of their ability.
And when their opportunity comes, are you making those one-on-one plays?
Because that's what the game ultimately always comes down to, no matter how you slice it up.
And the league, like, are your players making the plays they need to win games?
That's what it always comes down to.
We talked a lot about culture here, Houston, and the Swarmatality,
since the pride that's been brought back here to Houston.
The team that's coming in with Detroit,
what did you kind of see you've been in the past few years with their culture
and how revitalized Detroit is with their team?
As saying Detroit, the past couple years,
I think you see the culture, you see the energy that Coach Campbell has brought to that team.
You see the mindset, the toughness, physicality, right?
Their style of play, it shows up on tape, you know, every week.
So and they got really good players as well across the board.
They're able to add a lot of good players, a lot of good young players that are exhibiting, right, that mindset and that culture.
And it's a really good team coming in here this week and we're very excited about the match of.
You have a little bit of them.
Nico Collins and whether he'll be a quick question.
Yeah, we'll continue to evaluate Nico throughout the week, see where he, see where he is.
Okay.
D'Amico, can you, it's a two-part question.
So the offensive line has been doing a better job for a better job.
of blocking.
Are you surprised
that there's some challenges?
I know it's different
with past blocking.
Is it something that you think
you guys collectively
is a fix
that you guys can handle
for your best?
Our guys up front,
like you said,
they've done a good job of blocking.
They've asked a lot of good pass reps too.
I think everybody highlights the bad reps.
Of course, that's where the focus goes.
You know, on the bad reps,
we've had really good
pass rush
snaps and you know where are we with the timing with the progression of the routes and all those
are we open you know in the timing of the place all of those things matters when we do have good
protection and all of that is a factor as well coach you talked about you talked about second
half adjustments and on the offensive side of the ball what are you seeing as far as maybe some of
I don't want to say the play calling and some of the inefficiencies that they're having in the second half as far as scoring.
And for us, we've done a great job of moving the ball to get, you know, across midfield.
And I'm, you know, very encouraged with that progress of us moving the football because we can't move it.
When we need to, it's just when we've gotten across midfield, we hadn't been able to, you know, get points.
And those red zone opportunities, they come up very slim, you know, in games.
And when we are there, of course, we want to capitalize and be better.
We haven't been really good in the red zone and on third down, right?
We're used to sustain those drives and score points.
So that's been a focus.
We understand that.
And we understand we have to make some adjustments and put our guys in a better position to score points.
It looks like you guys left, not left, but put Stingley in a lot of one-on-one situations.
And he obviously was able to drive into the situation.
What kind of give you guys a confidence to leave him one-on-one against Defonse?
Gary and Mike Williams and would have kind of allowed him to be able to hold it home against those
pretty good receivers.
Yeah, Stingley is a good player.
A good young player.
He competes.
He challenges receivers down the field when the ball is up.
He doesn't find himself in a position where he's panicking, right?
He's calm at the catch point, allowing him to, you know, kind of go up and defend those passes.
And he's confident in himself.
And that's what allows you to be a good player.
Anybody you want to make plays in his league, you got to be confident.
and you have to have that belief in yourself, right, that you can make those plays and you thrive on those one-on-one match-up opportunities,
and Stingley has done a good job with those.
Do you have to take on Will Anderson, Jr., how to see him?
Yeah, we're still evaluating Will, see how he progresses throughout the week.
About whether you go off, you need to make a move at the trade deadline, and you express confidence in the guys that you have right now.
Even last game, as well as the injuries that you all have sustained.
Is your opinion the same one?
Yeah, my opinion is always the same on that.
I mean, with Nick and the staff, we're always looking to make our team as good as we could possibly be, right?
Do we have a heightened sense of just making a move just to make, no.
We're always looking to add to our team, add to our depth.
That's something we do constantly throughout the year.
So there isn't just a mad rush now at the trade deadline for us to change our approach
and how we go about managing our roster management.
management doesn't change. We're always looking to upgrade.
A couple more.
Kenyon going down, just what you make of your options with Kendrick and Jared both being utilized at that level.
Yeah, we'll see who steps up at the offensive line position.
We'll see who steps up, see how we go out there and get the job done.
Coach, you've always expressed it.
It's not easy to win in this league.
It's a week-to-week you're playing against other professionals, other basketball players.
going up against the checks coming here, they were two and six.
They had lost their last five.
Is this kind of like a wake-up call maybe for some of your players,
or is just something that you all were, you know,
say you've got to make sure that you stay focused?
Yeah, for us, I feel like our guys are focused going into the game.
And just because the record says one thing,
I don't know, everybody falls into the mode.
And just because a team's record is one thing that you're going to go in
and automatically beat a team.
that's not how the league works.
You have to earn the right to win.
And to earn the right to win, you have to work the right way throughout the week,
and you have to make plays in the game to win, right?
Jets are a really good team, top 10 defensive unit.
They got playmakers, Aaron Rogers, Adams, Garrett.
It's not like they don't have playmakers on their team,
and they were just going to lay down because we showed up.
There's never the case.
So you go out and you earn the right to win,
by making the plays you're supposed to make, no matter what the record is,
it doesn't matter who you play, what the record says,
how well are you playing on game day?
All right, thank you.
Okay, two things that, not troubled me,
but of concern, we'll discuss when come back.
See if you picked up on the exact same two things that I picked up on.
Ooh, okay.
713-212-5-790, 7-1-2-1-2-5-7-9.

This is the Matt Thomas show.
Matt Thomas on Sports Talk 790.
All right, our Astros tribute to a man that has gone and left us,
not like literally left the world, but just left the team.
We'll be coming up at 2.30.
We'll just do it that way.
Because I wanted to go over a couple things.
The two observations I had from the availability,
and I appreciate D'Amico doing it,
basically just there were a lot of poignant questions asked about the offensive line.
and what needs to be improved.
And honestly,
D'Amico went to
Masters,
get his at Masters in Coach Speak,
and decided to deflect it to the entire team.
And I'm going to go ahead and give you the quote.
Oh,
in response to potential changes on the offensive line,
he says everyone can play better.
He was speaking in generality.
Yes.
He's, yeah.
He's always Mr. Coach speak.
It shouldn't be shocking.
What do you think he says?
Yeah, Kenyon Green sucks.
I fist pump when he ripped his shoulder off.
What has come down to in today's world is he's going to tear him some ass from inside the locker room.
Outside, he's going to be as vanilla and as uninteresting and his lack of transparency as possible.
And that's not just him.
That's 90% of coaches in all sports.
I think that's how it should be.
You take care of the business in-house.
Yeah.
All right.
And then when I asked about Nico Collins,
quote, will continue to evaluate Nico throughout the week and see where he is.
That, that to me is more like, that ain't a guarantee he's playing Sunday against Detroit.
Did they open up his practice window?
That's all it was said.
Okay.
Because when you're on IR, they don't they have to open up a 21 day practice window or something like that?
I can't, I don't know the logistics of that.
My point is that that in selling to me, he's enjoyed the time off, not enjoyed it, but he's gotten the most out of it.
He's ready to go, raring to get after it.
Look forward to seeing him on Sunday.
Now, that could obviously change.
The practice reports will be out Wednesday, Thursday, Friday this week.
And maybe he's just being cautious.
Maybe he's being a little bit coy
because you don't want to give out a lot of information about the opposing team
so they can get ready to scout him.
But if he's practicing, it will signify that he's at least trending in the right direction.
I got terrible news for you.
And this is not Texas Hater.
This is Texas Realist.
What we saw have seen the last three,
three weeks from the Texans.
If they bring that lineup Sunday to NRG,
Darlene can wear all the bling she wants.
Her team's going to get her ass kick by 14 points.
Because here's the thing.
Joe Mixon Rossi is going to get his yards.
Joe Mixon gets his yards against everybody.
Yes.
But is being at home going to be able to protect CJ?
Will he make some throws that he doesn't only make on the road?
Probably because he says magical things at home.
He does magical things everywhere.
He does, but he's great.
But he's especially good at home.
The protection has really failed worse on the road in louder environments.
But I'm concerned about getting into a knockdown, dragout 35, 34 type of game.
And I don't think the Texans have enough in their arsenal, especially if Nico doesn't play.
I mean, did we even hear Xavier Hutchinson's name on Thursday night?
Do we even hear John Metchy's name on Thursday night?
John Metchy got a couple targets.
He was open, actually.
And well, C.J. Stroud missed him.
Yeah.
He made poor throws.
Xavier Hutchinson, did he end up with a catch?
I don't think he did either.
He had a couple targets.
But it was a lot of Tank Dell.
Well, we figured.
More Dalton Schultz, more Tank Dell.
And hopefully you get Nico Collins back.
You know, these eyes of mine, they're NFL testing.
I want you to look at the feet placement this Sunday.
Okay.
I want you to see, if you can see he's getting,
if he's staying stirring the pocket and be able to make his throws,
or is he skittish because the pass rush is coming?
Again, we've said this before.
Pass rush for an NFL quarterback is nothing new.
And to think that he's going to have a clean pocket for four quarters is absurd.
It's what you do in staying in that pocket for as long as you can and being able to make the accurate throw.
If you're throwing off your back foot, if you're jumping into a pass, if you're throwing to the side because you're being rushed, that's where the mistakes happen.
Because from an accuracy standpoint, C.J. Stride is one of the five most accurate quarterbacks in the NFL when given the time.
Yeah, but he's been missing some throws.
Let's see.
Three targets for Xavier Hutchins.
Zero catches.
Only people to record a catch.
Tank Dell, six catches.
Robert Woods, two, Dalton Schultz, three.
Yeah.
You're not beating the lines with that kind of production.
You just aren't.
Nope.
Don't you think it's going to be first of 35 wins?
Does that mean, not to overly simplify it?
I would, no.
I would say if they're shooting out with the lines,
things are going very poorly.
If they are allowing 35 points of the lines,
they're going to lose to buy two touchdowns, as you said.
So you're hoping for a Jared Gough,
three interception day. Deflected pass,
sack, fumble.
You're just going to have to
somewhat, you're just going to have to
somewhat, you're just going to have to limit
the damage and force a turnover or two.
And the Texans have been good at forcing
turnovers at home. And the Texans
do have a quality win at home
over Buffalo. The Buffalo Bills, who
also just lost it home to the
Miami Doe. No, no, they won. They got
the last second fuel goal, yeah, yeah.
Dolphins should have went for two at the end of that game, by the way.
By the way, I was, you were watching the exact same
him and I was. Tuoh was running in the middle of the field
for the first out and he dove. I'm like, what are you
doing? What are you doing? Please get up.
Here, Kevin Harlan. Oh, there he goes.
I love Kevin Arland.
He's like, oh no, he's running. Get down! Like the whole country.
Get down toa! Get down. And I'm not even a Tua fan. I don't want a man
dying on the field. I don't like to watch football that way.
It's just me.
Chris Lavee, by the way, speaking of somebody, like,
he's, how many concussions has he had this year?
Yeah, it's at least a second. He got stretched out.
like a couple times this year.
It's not good.
Worryed about Crystal Lave and his
concussions.
He's got a rule of thumb for you.
You know, if you have a son,
baseball or basketball is much safer.
Yep.
Our golf's fine too.
Golf, yeah.
You can get hit in the head with a golf ball,
but it's rarer.
It feels like rugby may be a little bit safer
than the NFL these days.
Maybe.
For head injuries.
I'm serious.
Let's go to the phone,
713,
212, 570.
My phone, my screen is completely frozen.
That's fine.
I got you.
Let's talk to Jimmy on 7-90.
Hi, Jimmy.
Hey, guys.
Good to hear y'all on the radio today.
I just kind of had a quick comment about the World Series.
I thought y'all might think was funny.
The day or two after the World Series, I turned on New York Sports Radio on my iHeart app.
And some people are calling in, complaining about Judge, complaining about Ben, whatever.
Probably about the third caller that I happen to hear calls in,
complain about Garrett Cole, which that's fair, not hustling that first base play.
But he immediately, and I thought this was hilarious, he said, and honestly, he's like,
we can blame that on the Astros because he goes, when he was in Houston, they developed,
he went off on how, you know, Houston ruined Garrett Cole and it's his fault, it's Astro's fault.
And I just love everything about the fact that the Yankees went further than us this year,
and they didn't get to beat us along the way. And we're still apparently in their
heads.
And I just found that, first off, just completely insane.
But, and to be fair, the radio host quickly cut him off.
He's like, he's like, tear cold, never even one with the Astros.
So, but I just thought that was funny.
Um, Ross, my question, well, both, for both of y'all, but, uh, use an analogy from
the office, can y'all explain to me like I'm five years old?
just like the 30 second version
the kickoff rolls in the NFL
you got it Matt go ahead
no Jimmy I will do it for you but it will not take 30 seconds
you have to kick the ball in the landing area
between the zero and the 20
and the defense can't pursue
until the ball is touched
and if it goes into the touchback it goes to the 30
Not until it's kicked, until it's touched.
Until the, yeah.
Well, would you?
Oh, until it's caught.
Yes, you cannot leave.
See, I'm glad you're here for a minute.
Until it's caught.
Yeah.
And if it goes into a touch bag, it goes to the 30.
And if it doesn't go into the landing zone?
40.
40.
The landing zone, this is, I'm going to do this an airport voice.
I like this.
Can we get an airport sign effect here?
Because I'll do it.
Okay, sure.
I don't need an airplane.
I need airport.
I don't know.
All right, here we're going.
All right, I'll start because we're running a short of time.
The landing zone is designated as the area between the receiving team's goal line and the 20-yard line.
Any kick that hits or is caught inside the landing zone must be returned,
with the only exception being a ball that hits in the landing zone,
but goes into the end zone.
There are three possible outcomes for the kick-offs that are not returned,
starting at the 20-yard line, the 30-yard line,
and the 40-yard line.
If a kick hits in the landing zone and then goes into the end zone,
it will be considered a live ball and must be returned or down by the return team.
The resulting touchback will give the ball the return team in its own 20-yard line.
If a kick goes out of bounds out of the back of the end zone or lands in the end zone,
stays in bounds in the end zone and is downed,
it will be considered a touchback but will be brought out to the 30-yard line.
If a kick lands short of the landing zone,
it'll be treated the same as a kickoff out of bounds
and the return team will get the ball
at its own 40-yard line.
For our rivals, please enter the red zone.
For departures, please drop
your passengers off in the blue zone.
Thank you.
Thank you.
It was a little bit, it was late, but it was fine.
You hear that?
That was my audition to be the voice
of Intercontinental or Hobby Airport.
Hell, for that matter, I'd take Tulsa.
I'll take any airport.
Okay, Matt.
If anybody out there knows anybody in the airport business,
I want to be the voice of your airport.
I told you when I was in Seattle.
I heard the guy who calls the Mariners was doing that.
Piss me off.
Yeah, I'm not happy about that at all.
We say goodbye to an astro.
Legend.
That's a strong term.
Okay.
That was the next stop down from legend.
Participator?
Whatever is lower than a participator.
He's lower than that?
Yeah.
Kind of feels like it.
That's rude.
It's the truth, though.

Hey, it's Robert Ford from the Astros broadcast team.
See, hello.
Catch every Astros game on Sports Talk 790 and the I-Hard radio app.
Home of your Astros.
Left-handed hitter, waggles that bat, and this one hit well to right field.
Again, Burleson, he's going back, and he'll watch that one go.
Back to back home runs.
That one over the bullpen in right center.
field and Trey Cabbage gets his first home run of the season and the Astros now down three to two
first home run as a Houston Astro Trey Cabbage and he's got power he's got power to burn
107 off the bat here's the 3-2 to a dough and that's hit in the air down the right field line long run for
cabbage and sliding makes the catch in foul territory
of a play by Cabbage sliding right at the chalk line.
As a matter of fact, he smudged a bunch of chalk on the warning track
on the foul side of the line.
While making that play, one away.
It's on the way.
And Cabbage lined it up the middle and into center for our base hit.
Around third coming home is Myers.
Lo Perfito around third as that ball goes all the way to the wall.
Lo Perfito scores.
Trey Cabbage, a two-run double.
His second two-bagger of the day.
And the Astros lead is 10 to 5.
A five run, top of the 11th.
The 1-0.
And Rodriguez hits it pretty well.
The right sends back Cabbage at the wall.
He leaves, and he caught it.
Trey Cabbage took a home run away from Julio Rodriguez.
Two away.
It started with getting back there quickly, and that's what Cabbage did.
Right against the wall, jump straight up.
and timed it perfectly.
I don't know what's more impressive.
The Trink Cabbage had highlights or we found them.
I don't know what we pay you, Connor, but it's not enough.
Control F. Cabbage is fine.
Oh, he's downgrading your...
Am I wrong? Am I wrong?
Oh, my God.
He's not wrong.
Both you guys can both be true.
Oh, my God.
But also a great effort, Con.
great effort.
I was going to give you your flowers and he just took him and threw him in the trash.
Let's focus on what the task at hand here.
Trey!
One of my worst takes of last baseball season.
I got feeling. It's fine.
I had Trey Cabbage hitting seven home runs.
And I didn't think I was going to combine the minor league and the major league numbers together.
But I don't even think I hit that number, did I?
I was wrong, too.
I had him at zero.
He hit one.
that's true
all right so cabbage is now
a Pittsburgh pirate
his claim the Astros had some
40 man issues to begin with
yeah they had to get a lot of guys
all cleared off because of
everybody they had so many people
on the 60 day aisle that they had to clear off
that feels rude but true
it's true
the Astros did acquire somebody today
and begin the trade
yes Taylor Trammel
from the New York Yankees
acquired via trade
6-2-220 that's like receivers weight
in heights. What's he doing playing
the outfield for the New York Yankees or at least
a little bit? He played
five games. He had two plate
appearances this year.
Hashtag defense replacement.
Hashtag
27-year-old prospect.
Yeah, five
games for the Yankees.
He played five games for the Dodgers
earlier in the year. So he played a total of
10 games.
In four years, his
major league career, he's played
126 games.
Do you want his career average?
Sure, why not?
167.
Okay.
Career OPS 633.
So he's got a little pop.
No.
For a guy bad unless it's up 200, yeah.
Yeah, you're right.
15 home runs.
OPS plus of 79, of course,
league average being 100.
Um,
I mean,
not going to spike season ticket sales.
Yeah.
We're hoping for the best.
Maybe the Astros can turn him around.
At 27.
27 and he has played a total of...
126 games.
I mean, he's got...
It's literally a cup of coffee.
Maybe a second cup.
Room to grow and improve for Taylor Tremel.
I don't know what the Astros give up in return, but it can't be much.
But here's my question is...
And look, behind the scenes of a Major League organization is...
something that I'll never be a part of, but
how does he become
available and how does someone go,
are you really offering us, Taylor Trammell?
We'll take him. What do you
want? I mean,
I can't imagine Taylor Trammell being on
anybody's radar. Now, watch him be a 30
steal a guy next year for the Astros. I mean, I'm all
for that. I'm just saying that it's really weird
for a guy that has had
just literally a cup of coffee in Major
League all of a sudden is now becoming a part of a
trade. I'm sure it's a
very minor trade and
cash considerations maybe.
I like Trey Cabbage. They're hoping
to strike lightning in a bottle. It didn't happen with
Trey Cabbage. And my guess is unless he has a
spectacular spring training next year for the
Storos, he'll open up the years a member of the Space Cowboys.
By the way, Matthew, our friend
Tim Britton of the Athletic
has put out projections
for the biggest free agents
in baseball. His projections
of contracts.
Do you want to start with Juan Soto?
I'll put you guess.
Okay, I'll just do you.
Let's do it. Let's do like three or four.
Juan Soto is going to be 11.3.50.
13 years?
Okay, I was off by two.
$611 million.
Yeah, okay.
That's going to narrow it down to like one team.
Corbyn Burns.
I'll give you the years.
Seven years.
280.
28, 217.
Okay.
See, I'm not good at this.
Alex Bregman.
I'm not giving you the years.
No.
Now, again, we have a no bet if it's six.
I win if it's five or less.
You get it at seven or more.
I'm going to go six to 13.
7-189.
So he'd be making less per year than he is right now, basically?
So that's one person's opinion that doesn't have him as a $30 million year player.
27 million a year for seven years.
Do you think, Bregman, again, this is only one person to possibly answer this question?
Let's put this in your category, Ross.
Okay.
I'm going to offer you 5-150 or 7-189.
7-189.
You want this the greater sum?
Yes.
Okay.
I mean, what kind of deal is Alex Brake?
If he hits the free agency at 35, 36 years old,
is he going to be able to get a two-year, a $40 million deal?
No.
I want to give you a stat, and I was doing this in my researching for tonight's Rockets game.
Okay.
And I don't think the matured of the audience would care about this, but it just shows you that it's strange what drives people.
So Jalen Brunson re-signed with the New York Knicks in the off season, okay?
Yeah, he took a discount, correct?
I couldn't believe how big the discount was.
He took a huge discount.
You ready for this?
Yes.
So Jalen Brunson could have re-signed.
Now, again, this is off my stat service.
I don't know if this is 100% correct, but they usually don't make mistakes.
Could have signed a five-year deal worth 269.
Yes.
Instead, he takes a four-year deal at 165.
Or 156.
Mine says 165.
Oh, really?
Okay.
But I'll trust you.
I mean, I'm on my job Google too.
That's $100 million less.
Yes.
I have never heard of a player turning down a hundred million dollars.
That's, you know, that is so astronomical.
That's now that Brunson rule is taking serious cash.
less than what your value is.
So some guys do do it.
It happens, but it's very rare.
By the way, one more thing,
and I don't mean to segue from baseball
because we were honoring trade cabbage,
a listener of ours sent us a tweet
that basically said,
if things go south in Milwaukee,
and that Janus asked for a trade,
according to one website,
which again, they're just creating odds
just to create them,
yes, that Janus Dentagumpo,
would have a list of five teams on his list
that would be the favorites to try to trade for him
and the fourth most pipeter bet on the board
would be your beloved Houston Rockets.
Hmm. Just throwing that out there.
Milwaukee, by the way,
the worst record in the Eastern Conference right now
at 1 and 5.
Very small sample size. It's a long way to go.
Long way to go. Long way to go. How do you have Dame Lillard
and Janice and Brooke Lopez and I mean is everybody not
is everybody playing on that team I don't know what it is they're in last place in the
Eastern Conference you know who's in second of last place go ahead
the Philadelphia 76ers
they're both behind the pistons yeah
by the way you used to join in B'd fought with a reporter in Philadelphia
oh yeah you know what I've I meant to send you that story on our sheet but I
forgot um that was well you got 12 seconds go ahead
that report when I my first
reaction was, oh my gosh, what is wrong with Joel Embed?
But then it turned out that guy in an article invoked
his dead brother to call Joel Embed
lazy. Uh-uh. Yeah.
Yeah, okay. You know what? Get your ass kicked.
He should have gotten his... He's lucky he only got shoved.
Yeah. You should get your ass beat.
All right. Let's play, believe it or not, next.
713-212-790.
7-1-3-1-2-5-790.
We are playing for spectacular prizes.

Category today is all things about the legendary producer Quincy Jones.
I'll read your statement about Quincy.
Statements completely notarily accurate.
You'll say this.
Believe it.
Statements erroneous full of bunk and made up.
You'll say this.
Two believer knots in a row on.
Quincy Jones wins your prize.
What are you playing for today?
Connor?
We got a four pack of tickets with pit passes to Mazur Jam on Sunday, February,
second at NRG.
stadium. A pair of tickets to Masters
Firm Battleground 2K24, college basketball
this Saturday, November 9th, at the
Toyota Center featuring the University of Houston Cougars,
taking on the Auburn Tigers, and Rice Ows going
head to head with Florida State, and some $790
t-shirts. I like Rice to win by 23
in that game. That sounds about right. Let's talk to
Brian on 790. Brian, you're ready to play, believe it
or not? Yes, sir.
Quincy Jones was a music
prodigy as a child. At age 10,
he played the trumpet on the popular
national radio show, The Lucky Strike
Program. Believe it or not.
Not.
Nope, that's correct.
Statement number two for the win.
Quincy Jones is 28 total
Grammy Award wins of the most all-time
for a single individual.
Believe it or not.
Not.
That's right.
Beyonce had 32.
Congratulations.
Let us continue and talk to David on 790.
David, what was your favorite part of today's radio show?
All of it.
In addition to his work producing albums,
Quincy Jones also wrote a number of TV
themes including Samford and Son
and the Bill Cosby Show. Believe it
or not? Believe it.
That is correct. Statement
number two for the win. Quincy Jones allowed
Mike Myers to use his song
Sol Bossa Nova as the Austin
Power theme in exchange for a short
cameo in the film. Believe it
or not? Believe it.
No, Ross made that up.
That was a nice try, though.
Good questions, but.
Andrew on 790, you're ready to play, believe it or not?
Believe it.
Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson met while working on the 1978 film The Whiz. Jackson asked for suggestions for his next record producer and Jones offered his services. Believe it or not.
Believe it. That's right. Statement number two for the win. Quincy Jones was once quoted as saying about the Beatles. They were the worst musicians in the world and that Paul McCartney was the worst bass player ever heard. Believe it or not.
Believe it. Yeah, I mean, it was the dumbest thing he'd ever send in his life that he did say.
say it. Sam on
790. What was your fair part of today's radio
show?
The interview with
U of H football coach. Quincy Jones
was once, sorry I read that one.
Quincy Jones first met Ray Charles
when he was 14 and Charles was 16
and the two became great friends
and frequent music collaborators.
Believe it or not?
Believe it. That's right.
Believe it. Statement number two for the win. Quincy Jones
planned to attend a dinner party at Sharon Tate's
house on the night of the Manson murders
only to forget at the last minute.
Believe it or not.
That is actually true.
That is freaking.
Really, really weird.
And by the way, you should be sorry
that you put that Beatles question and that was terrible.
Well, he was used to working with jazz musicians
who are the best in the world.
Okay, get out of here.
It's a relative.
He didn't play with the greatest drummer
of the greatest guitar players of all time.
