Who's that really?
All right, let's get after it.
Dr. Roto with us every Thursday in this slot to get you ready for your week four of the fantasy football world.
Good doctor, we need some help.
We need a prescription for some players now that Pittsburgh and Tennessee has been postponed.
How are worried about tight ends.
We are worried about clearly running backs when it comes to the Titans.
I don't think we're worried about quarterbacks, but how are you solving these issues with some of these players
are available to the teams this week?
You know, it's crazy because I think we got through three weeks and we thought we were going to get away Scott-free, but this is what we were projecting all season could happen.
So, I mean, let's just hope it only stays to this one game and, you know, we'll pray for the best.
But, you know, look, Rothesberger is going to be out.
You're not going to use him or Juju or James Connor or even D.A. Johnson, Derek Henry, John Hsu-Smith.
So you're going to have to adapt.
This is why leagues can't just have one day of waivers.
There has to be more.
Now, look, the good news is I think they're going to try to fit this game.
within the fantasy schedule, but if this continues to happen, I know the NFL has planned for like
a week 18 where they're going to push all these games, and that's going to hurt fantasy football
managers because, you know, we're going to lose one game from our players.
That's true.
Let's get to the slate of games.
We'll start this week with the Broncos and the Jets as a Thursday night game.
And again, I don't know what the NFL pays itself to put these crappy games on, but there's
just Thursday night football sucks.
Broncos going with another quarterback.
Will that make any difference this week against a very porous Jets defense?
I mean, I wish it was Mark Rippin instead of Brett Rippin.
But I think what we're looking at is Velvet Borden is a must start at running back.
I think no offense is a start at tight end.
And if you want to risk it, how about Jerry Judy?
I think the reason is the thing Rippin and Jack Triscoll is that Rippin gets rid of the ball more quickly.
And look, Greg Williams, say what you will, the Jets defense has been better than you've looked.
It just has been so bad offensively.
But it's going to throw in different bucks.
So it's close.
James and Crowder is expected back.
That should only help Sam Darnold, but this is an ugly game, and I'm sorry that we'd have to watch it.
Tom Brady's best week, I think, as a Buccaneer took place when they went to Denver to play.
Can they do that again this week against the Chargers at home?
Yeah, no, I don't think so, and here's why.
So Chris God was out with a hamstring injury.
Johnson Wolfebler.
He's another receiver.
Billers injured.
So I look at Chargers are pretty good run.
So basically, Mike has a lot of injury.
is also basically Mike Evans is healthy, but Casey Hayward's going to cover him.
I think you may see some Gromtowski.
I think you may see some Roger Howard, maybe some Ronald Jones this week, because
Leonard Fornett is injured.
Look, this is just not a great week to start your books.
I think maybe if we get 240 and a touchdown, we'll be happy.
Saints, I think, have been at the one-fifth poll this season.
Very disappointing, I'd be honest with you.
One and two, Breeze looks like he's not in the arm, strength.
And again, I don't know if that's just an easy story line or whatever the case may,
and obviously Thomas not playing hurts,
but are we starting to fade some of these Saints' skill position players
who think they get fat and happy against the Lions this week?
Yeah, I think they get fat and happy,
and I think Michael Thomas being out is the whole offense.
I mean, Morris, terrific, but your offense goes with Michael Thomas.
So, you're going to Smith.
These aren't the ones and two.
They're threes.
So you need Thomas out there.
So the last thing is very well as he gets the parmills.
I don't know that for a lightning strike twice.
I do like T.J. Hawkinson,
He's probably the best match with an cut end on the board.
Like him on Kennedy God,
we're going to try to get Dr. Erdo bet up on us,
establish on a better line.
I've got to get him his own, like, landline or something.
He's got so much good information,
but unfortunately the cell service sometimes blotches it,
so he will try to reestablish with the good doctor
coming up in a couple of seconds.
Still coming up before the end of the show today.
We have non-flora stories.
I'm going to Brooklyn, New York, for my non-in-frolet story.
Yeah.
I'm undetermined.
That means you've got so many good options that you just don't know what to go with.
I'm glad you recognize that, Matthew.
I got that going on.
We got also the Rotten 5 of 220.
The kids are asking, will the Texans be in the Rotten 5 this week?
I believe there are only six 0 and three teams in the NFL.
The Texans are one of them.
Will they be in the Rotten 5?
You'll find out of 220 this afternoon.
All right, good doctor is back.
Let's get back to that Saints Lions.
What are you thinking about this week with the New Orleans players?
Yeah, you're going to play Camar, you're going to play Thomas,
and you're going to feel good about it.
I think you play Drew Brees this week.
So, as I said, you play Galdane, you play Hockinson.
All right, so what is Ghaladay?
Is he 100% coming in this week?
I don't know if he's 100%.
He's probably about 85, but look, he's a big, strong, fast receiver,
and he's a bad matchup for the Saints.
Marshall, Alamore's good.
He's not great.
And look, Stafford has to throw the ball to somebody.
And when the Lions are winning, they're going to give the ball to Adrian Peterson all day.
That's what they want to do.
When they're losing, they have to throw the ball, and the holidays are number one target.
Browns and Cowboys, this feels like anybody that plays is going to score
because these two teams have been playing games in 30 so far this season.
Yeah, so this game comes down to game flow,
and I think that fantasy football managers have to understand what game flow means.
So if the Browns are winning, they're going to hand the football off to Nick Chub,
they're going to hand it to Cream Hunt, and they're going to suffocate that clock as much as they can.
If the Browns are losing, look for Beckham and Jarvis Landers to have been.
days. So I do like all four of those guys. They're in play. For Dallas, you're playing
Dak. Zique never has two bad games in a row. You know he's going to want to play well.
I like Amari Cooper this week. I like Dalton Schultz this week. Who's been very good at
tight end. I think this could either be very high scoring or if the Browns take a lead,
they could shut this ball down a little bit. All right. We've got a quarterback change in Chicago.
I was thinking about this yesterday. Not that anybody had Trubisky and their fantasy thing.
If they did, they were just foolish.
But how many teams with a 2-0 record changed their quarterback out in week three?
It happened, and now they're going to probably do it again.
How does it impact Chicago look against the Colts this week?
You know, in 10 quarters of play, Mitch Trubisky actually had one good quarter,
the fourth quarter against the Lions, you know, and so that was it.
So here's what was happening.
Against the Falcons, Trubisky was missing his receivers by a lot.
I mean, he wasn't getting anybody any looks.
They had to bring full of them.
So a lot of people are going to look at the Colts defense, and they're going to say,
wow, this defense is really good.
They've played some bad teams.
I mean, they played the Jets.
They played the Vikings who don't throw the ball.
When they play the Jacksonville Jaguars, Minchews threw for over 350 yards against them.
I think Poles has a good week.
I like Miller.
I like Allen Robinson.
All right.
Anything fluky about the three and O start for the bills?
You can say no if you want to, but anything fluky at all?
I don't think so.
I think Josh Allen has been terrific.
And I think that Stefan Diggs,
I mean, now you ask yourself, why would the Vikings ever get rid of him?
I will say this.
They play two very bad teams, right?
And the Jets and the Dolphins, they played a good team with the Rams.
They were winning.
Then they almost lost this game.
So, you know, the bills are good.
I think they win this week as well.
All right.
We know when the Chiefs take the field, they're going to score a boatload of points.
What do you envision the Patriots doing?
First of all, I was down 40 going into Monday night's game, and I won.
Thank you, Pat Mahomes, for being who you are.
So needless to say, I'm expecting a high-scoring,
Contest, and more importantly, what will the Patriots do players do?
Because we know the Chiefs are going to run around the field and score a bunch of points for us.
Yeah, and I don't know if you saw Patrick O'Holmes' mother was on Twitter saying his name is Patrick.
I was like, okay, you know, she's very adamant about that.
What I'll tell you this is this game is going to go one of two ways.
If the Chiefs are winning, watch Clyde Edward Tiller, who I think has a big game this week
because the Patriots don't stop running backs out of the backfield.
They will stop Travis Kelsey for sure.
I think this is going to come down to whether Tyree killer, Sammy Watkins,
can make plays. When Cam Newton is ahead, he's a different quarterback. He's way more confident.
When he's behind, he becomes backfoot Cam. I think the only way the Patriots win this game is that
they slow it down and they run the ball and Cam really uses the clock. I don't see that happening
here. I think the Chiefs went. All right, Sunday night, you get the Eagles against the Niners.
What do we learn about the Niners after two straight weeks in New York, especially last week
with all their injuries? Yeah, I think we learned that Kyle Shanahan may be one of the best play callers
in this game. I mean, he is very talented. So he takes Nick Mullins and he takes, you know,
Jeff Wilson and he takes Brandon Ayuk and they beat the Giants by a ton on the road. So the Eagles have a lot
of issues. Firstly, Carson Wentz doesn't look great. Secondly, every receiver seems to be heard. They're
going to go with Greg Ward and John Hightower. And then lastly, they're a funnel defense. So I think
George Kittles expected back, watch a guy named Trent Taylor be a slot receiver who's going to do well
for the Niners this week.
And I think the Eagles, it comes down to, can they establish the running game with Miles Sanders
and Went has to play better.
All right, we'll go to the Monday night game.
We'll get to the Texans and the Vikings, and we'll start taking your phone calls.
You've got a question for Dr. Roto.
Two ways to get it on this show in the next segment.
713-212-5-790.
7-13-212-5-790 or on Twitter at SportsMT.
More with Roto next.
This is the Matt Thomas show on Sports Talk 790.
Good doctors with us.
So we'll start taking phone calls
at a matter of seconds here
on a Thursday edition of the Matt Thomas Show.
Thank you very much for listening.
Roda, let's get to the Monday night game.
I don't know if there's going to be a coaching change
of this one.
It would seem like it would be the perfect sense.
I mean, to go 0 and 4 to open over a quarter.
The Packers have been a huge surprise, I think, at 3 and 0.
Again, records don't count when it comes to fantasy numbers.
So can the Falcons do some things against that defense of Green Bay on Monday night?
Look, the Falcons could be two in one right now.
I mean, they've lost the last two games, and they were winning going into the fourth quarter.
So it's just defensive lapses there.
But here's the good news.
Julio Jones practice, Russell Gage practice, Ridley has been outstanding.
So they're going to have all their weapons against the Packers.
Devante Adams is expected back this week.
So look, the Packers are terrific.
And this kid, Alan Lazard, if people don't know who he is and if he's available in your league,
he is clearly the number two option there for Green Bay, and Aaron Rogers loves him.
So I think this should be a wide open, high-scoring game, and one that should be very fun to watch.
I picked up a Lazard last week.
Can I play him and Adams together and be okay figuring out that if a ball is going to be thrown by Aaron Rogers,
it's going to be to one of those two guys?
I mean, that you could.
It's not preferable, but it's possible, especially with five weeks coming up.
Lizard is great.
And you know what you probably would do if you'd had that trade for Aaron Rogers and then go all into the Packers?
so basically you get all the points.
And then get some cheese as part of the deal, obviously,
because it'll be loaded up with Green Bay players.
All right, let's get to it.
How often does a 175-yard run or 175 yards
are receiving equate to zero wins?
That's exactly what happened in Minnesota last week against Tennessee.
Texans are staring at 0-and-3,
non-existent running game.
More importantly, for those fans of the Vikings and Texans,
who plays and who sits this week?
I think I really love this game for fantasy purposes this week.
I know that sounds shocking, but I'm telling you, I like the Sean Watson this week.
I like David Johnson this week.
I love Fuller.
I love Brandon Cooks.
I like Randall Cobb.
I'm all in on the Texans this week.
For the Vikings, I'm in surprisingly on Kirk Cousins, Cook for sure, Dillon and Justin Jefferson.
I think these teams have weak secondaries.
I think that both of them have had sketchy one defenses.
I think this is a game that both teams need to win desperately, desperately.
So the one thing, I think that the Texans are in a tough.
great spot here. So if they just put a little
pressure on Kirk Cousins, it should make
a big difference. So I think
this game could easily be like if
be over under this one, then my best book should be over
55. Wow. All right. Let's get right to the
phone calls. Get your question in for Rodah. He'll
answer as fast as possible. Kvon
in Montrose on
7-90. Hello, Kavon.
How's it going, man? Good.
All right, I have a two-part question.
For my flex, should I
play Parker, Boyd, or
Lazars? And
I just picked up Rex Burkhead.
Should I expect anything, I guess, this week or coming forward after this week.
Thank you.
Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Burkhead this week.
Damien Harris is coming back off the IR.
James White is due back after the horrible tragic thing with his family.
So I think Burkhead was a one-week wonder.
I like Tyler Boyd this week.
I mean, Jacksonville can't cover Slack guys.
I'd like Parker as well.
I think you can't go wrong with either of them, and they're both startable under any format.
All right.
Let's go to Mission Ben and say hi to Brian.
I'm 7-90. Hi, Brian.
Hey, guys, how's it going?
Good.
Cool.
So I was wondering, should I start Marvin Jones, T.Y. Hilton, or Justin Jefferson, and also,
should I be confident in playing Julian Edelman this week?
I'm not confident with Edelman.
I think the chiefs have done a pretty good job of the slot receiver.
That said, I'm not benching him, right?
I mean, Julian Edelman, he's the best receiver.
It could be a high-scoring game, so you have to kind of ride with him.
I think I'm riding with T.Y. Hilton this week, I think they're going to be playing from behind a little
bit, and he is clearly the number one receiver there. Michael Pittman is hurt. Paris Campbell's hurt.
Jack Doyle's not 100 percent. So I think they're going to be relying on Hilton more than ever.
All right. We go next to line three. And Garrett and Cyprus for Roto. Go ahead, Garrett.
Hey, Dr. Roto. Matt, and always good to see you. And thanks for your excellent advice.
Just for her quick question on a running back, would you start or flex David Montgomery or Miles Gaskin?
I like both of them this week.
I do.
I think that the Colts, you know, Colts have a good run defense, but the Bears with
Tariqo and out, they have to be all in on Montgomery.
So is he not, he's not only going to get the rushes.
He's going to get some catches out of the backfield.
So this is the best spot he's ever been in.
I like Miles Gaskin, but he's not going to score a ton of touchdowns.
So I think I'm going to go Montgomery, but they're both pretty good players this week.
All right.
We go next to Justin and Tomball for the good doctor.
Hi, Justin.
Hey, how's it going?
question about quarterbacks. I need to use either Aaron Rogers or do I go with Josh Allen.
Yeah, I'm using Aaron Rogers. I mean, the Falcons are a terrible secondary right now.
Terrible. So I think I'm using, I'm using him. Josh Allen's good. He's great. He's been great thus
far. I just think this week, the Raiders may be a bad matcher because they like to run the football and he may see fewer possessions.
So I think I would, I will lean away from Allen there, but it's hard to do that because he's been great.
All right, Justin, thank you. Let's stay in Tom Ball and go to Mark on 7-90. Go ahead, Mark.
That's a flex question of Emmanuel Sanders or Devonthe Parker this week.
Yeah, I'm not playing Sanders. I have not been impressed at all with Michael Thomas back.
He's going to get a ton of the targets and then Kamar is there. I like Devonte Parker this week. I would use him.
All right, I got an email in. Montgomery, the Miller, is either Anthony or Scotty, Edmonds and Tate.
Which one of those five would you start in a PPR Flex?
Montgomery? Say that?
Yeah, David Montgomery.
You're like two or three guys.
Yeah, David Montgomery, Anthony Miller, Scotty Miller,
Chase Edmonds, Golden Tate.
Yeah, I like Montgomery and I like Tate.
The Rams have been very bad against slot receivers.
So if there's any giant that should have a good game,
it would be him.
But I think I go with Montgomery because you're guaranteed
the touches every, you know, all game long.
Gio and Humble for Dr. Roto on 790.
Go ahead, Gio.
Everyone.
So I got a trade question.
I got a 12 team need, and I got a trade request.
They want the Patriots, Melvin Gordon, and C.D. Lamb, and he's willing to give me the Saints, DeFes, Julio Jones, and DeAndre Swift.
Should I take it or not?
I heard the defense DeAndre Swift, and who's the third guy?
The Saints, Julio Jones, and DeAndre Swift.
Yeah, I'm not taking Julio Jones, dude.
He's been injured this year, so I know he's great, but I'm not touching that one.
Sorry.
All right.
That's what we need.
We need the harsh realities from our good doctor.
Let's go to Colton in West Columbia.
Hi, Colton.
Hey, how are you doing?
Good.
Dr. Rutter, I have a question.
Desaunt Walker, I have about 17 points,
and Matt Ryan's projected to have about 21.6.
They're both facing week differences in the second day.
Who would you rather start?
Desaun Watson or Matt Ryan.
Thank you.
Yeah.
Look, it's a fair question.
Matt Ryan is very hard.
It is. But I like Watson. I told you guys earlier on the segment. I love Watson this week.
But, I mean, I don't think I'm going to play Watson over Ryan. And here's the reason why. I think
David Johnson could sneak in a touchdown. Right. If that happens, then you're seeing less production
from Watson, whereas I don't think Todd Gurley's running anything on the Packers defense.
So it's a close one, but I'll go with Ryan.
Has Deshaun been a slight disappointment or as expected fantasy-wise?
I mean, come on. Look at what he's got here. He's got an eye.
offensive line that doesn't really, you know, stop anybody. They've had, they've played Baltimore
in Pittsburgh and Kansas City the first three weeks. So, I mean, look, this has been expected thus
far. Now, if he can't get it going in the next few games, then we need to worry. But the first
three weeks, I mean, sad but true, this is, this is what should have been happening.
All right, ladies and gentlemen, this time we wrap up our visit with Dr. Roto with a recommendation
from him on a guy or guys that's going to absolutely destroy it for you in your fantasy league.
It's Dr. Roto's lock of the week.
Yeah, there was no more disappointing team than the Baltimore Ravens last week.
But I don't think that's going to happen this week.
I think Marquise Brown finally makes a big play, and I think Mark Andrews finds the end zone.
So get your Ravens in the lineup and use them, you know, liberally.
All right, those are Dr. Roto's locks of the week.
Good doctor.
Where can find you between now and Sunday?
Yeah, you can find me at sI.com.
And then please check it.
out our Fantasy Plus product. It's terrific. And you can find me at Twitter at DRROTO.
Good, Dr. Great stuff, as always. My friend, we'll do this again next week.
You got it, my friend. You got it. That's Dr. Roto here on Sports Talk 790s. We wrap up the
1 o'clock hour of the show. Powerpack 2 o'clock frame, which will include Ross's Rotten 5 at
220, 239 Florida stories. And believe it or not, what is the topic today? Is it what I think
it is?
We'll see.
Right now it's on a rat. I mean, a certain
major league pitcher. It could
be changing the next hour. Stay with us.
An hour left to go on a Thursday edition
of the Matt Thomas show on Sports Talk 790.
