Launch timers, this is the Matt Thomas show.
10-02 and H-town.
Good morning, everyone, and welcome to a Monday edition of a Matt Thomas show with Ross.
This is Sports Talk 790.
You know, we kept it between us.
We had to.
We had to keep it tight.
J. Kidd didn't know about it.
But J.Kid and I are aligned, and we talk about archetypes,
and we talk about the culture that we want to create.
So I know the type of players that that,
that he likes without actually talking to him,
hey, would you like?
So I know that.
And J.K. coached them when they won a championship.
So I think when you're aligned with your coach like that,
I know the type of players that he likes.
This deal materialized in the shadows.
This came out of nowhere.
This is maybe the most stunning trade.
Definitely that I've been a part of in recent NBA history.
As far as it was never clearly out there.
The Los Angeles Lakers made a statement.
We're moving forward.
We appreciate what you've done.
But this is no longer your franchise.
This is Luca Donchik's franchise.
Now, you can go out there and do what you want for the next year or so.
But this is no longer yours.
No one has ever said that in the 22 years that LeBron James has been in the NBA, Shannon.
No one.
I've been a master of my whole entire life since I've been a baby.
This is the worst moment in the history of my life.
This is ridiculous.
This is crazy, man.
We went to the NBA finals.
Why are we trading the best?
player, the franchise player.
How are we trading the franchise player?
He went to the NBA finals.
He's supposed to have a statue.
Hell we go.
He's supposed to have a statue.
Dirk got a statue right there.
Supposed to be Luca right there.
We don't have a statue for Luca.
The entire sports world,
Sports RV, is in a
state of shock.
I think that's fair to say.
Fair to say.
Good morning, everybody.
We are not at Radio Row at the Super Bowl sports RV.
I'm sorry to tell you that.
I'm disappointed.
I can hear your voice.
Are you almost choked up over the whole situation?
Yeah, I am.
I'm still dealing with this coffee, which will not go away.
It's been fantastic.
All right.
I'm sorry about that.
Yeah, we will have some Super Bowl guests related throughout the course of the week.
So don't know about that.
And Gordy's going to be there Wednesdays.
So it's going to be able to just feed you one A-list guest after the other.
Can I hope that.
Yeah.
All right.
Good morning.
is the Matt Thomas Joe Ross.
I am in New York City with the Rockets and the New York Knicks tonight.
We'll have it for you right here on 790.
Ross is back in Houston, and you guys are back there as well,
and thank you all of you for taking part of your Monday to be with us here on the radio program.
Ross, and look, we are by no means a vibrant non-Rockets NBA City.
I don't know if an intriguing matchup like Oklahoma City and Denver
would necessarily move the needle for our audience.
So when we talk about this trade today, and we will obviously get into a lot of it,
for those that are the NBA gurus, or people that follow it,
but also for just the casual sports fan that listens to our show.
I don't know if we need to put a cop on it, but I don't think it would hurt.
This to me is, and I've been doing this a long time.
I don't know.
Now, I wasn't in sports when Herschel Walker trade happened from Dallas and Minnesota.
Okay, so I don't, that obviously was a unbelievable stop, the earth-stop spinning kind of a move in the NFL.
Can you help me with a couple of more that have shook the earth like this one did on Saturday night?
Matt, your thoughts on Babe Ruth being sold to the Yankees in 1919.
Okay, not in the business.
What was your reaction when that happened?
I didn't have a reaction.
I was not around at this point, although some would think I was.
I was not.
I mean, the only thing that popped in my head was
Kareem getting traded to the Lakers,
but also I wasn't in
1975.
I was still watching Tom and Jerry
and enjoying that experience in suburban Detroit
at the age of three.
This is one of the biggest moves in sports history.
It just is.
It absolutely, and that's what I want to talk to you guys about today.
You have been a part of some
incredible things.
You saw the greatest basketball player of all time play,
and Michael Jordan, many of you have.
You've seen the second greatest.
You've seen the home run king be dethroned.
You've seen multi-dynasties in many sports.
You've seen the greatest of the greats play.
Wayne Gretzky and Tiger Woods.
I mean, you in this generation that we're living in right now,
you may have seen one of the three biggest trades in the history of sports.
And I'm just throwing the number three out, Ross, because I can't, I'm, there's got to be two that are going to be comps of this at some point.
But this is nuts.
And the thing about trades are, you can't obviously grade them out for three to four years.
No, we can grade this one.
Okay, I'm good.
What am I kidding?
Look, and by the way, any time that we say Doewey on the show today, we need to get Jalen Rose's ding out, because if there's any time that you and I like using that work,
It's when describing Luca Donge.
Oh, come on.
You're going to call the guy Doey right now.
What are you going to call him?
I mean, he's basically fat now.
Special, spectacular, great playmaker, one of the all-time great scores, and a finals
participant.
Apparently, a 270 pounds right now, too.
No, that's not true, is it?
Just throwing it out there.
Just throwing it out there.
Point being is this, you don't see an All-Star for an All-Star Ross we've seen traded
before.
A
starter,
a
main go-to threat,
sure.
But when
Luca's healthy,
and look,
he's not healthy
right this moment,
but he'll be healthy
eventually.
He's a top,
what,
three player in the league?
Yokic,
SGA,
Luca?
Yeah,
depends on what you want
to put Janus in there.
Yonis, I mean, okay,
so top five.
Healthy and B.
He's top five-ish.
We can
stop right there.
You don't, who by the way, if
you would have kept him
was going to sign a deal
that was going to put him in the Supermax, and for those
who don't know, and I had to look what Supermaxes are.
Looks Max contracts are dollar amounts that
every team can pay their own.
But if you've been with an NBA team for seven
years, and you haven't been
traded, and you make
first or second team, or third
team all NBA in the previous two years, you are
eligible for a Supermax.
But that's the only team that can pay the Super Max is the original team you were with,
basically trying to keep players to stay with the team they were drafted.
So Luca was going to make, what?
How much was it?
Yeah, it was like $350 million, whatever it was.
Whatever it was.
Some godly amount.
Something godly amount.
Not only does he not get that from Dallas,
he can't get that from the Los Angeles Lakers because he's not longer super eligible
max.
He was eligible for five years, $345 million.
So basically, Dow's could control him, pay him any amount of money, literally the most money you can ever pay on potential NBA player.
If there is a top of the list, he'd be there.
And the Mavericks just told Luca Donchich, your doughy butt ain't worth it.
Yeah, but even if they were going to say that he was not worth the money, how do they only talk to the Lakers?
how does he not talk to his head coach about who he wants back?
And then that quote that we played at the beginning,
oh, I know what kind of players he wants.
It's fine.
We've got a good relationship.
Something is rotten in Denmark.
Something stinks with this.
Something ain't right.
I don't know what it is.
I don't think it's, you know, the Adam Silver rigging the league for the Lakers like some people are saying or whatever.
But something ain't right.
You don't start a bidding war for one of the great young players in the NBA?
He was a 5 years old, by the way.
Yep.
Yep.
And I want to know, did LeBron really not know?
And if he really didn't know,
then how much do the Lakers really care about LeBron?
We'll get to that.
Matt, Dave McMinneman says he didn't know.
How do you not tell the de facto general manager of the Lakers what you're doing?
I'm just kidding.
Dave McMinnon has been obviously in bed with the Lakers and LeBron,
and so he would be.
it's not a giant leap to say he was told by LeBron's camp to say hey go ahead and report that LeBron didn't know about this
we'll get to more of this again this is to us at least to Ross tonight bigger than the sport
it's taking one of the three biggest transactions in the history of that league
but so long Ross has been 77 years in the NBA is everything like that celebrated 75 so let's add a couple more
77 years of NBA basketball this might be the biggest trade in the history of the
history of the NBA.
And we're alive for it.
Rossi Chip Kelly's in the NFL.
He is?
Yep. He's on Kirby?
Me with the readers.
Oh.
Sorry.
That's fine.
A lot of candidates still will run through the list on that today.
Rockets against the Knicks tonight will have no,
we'll have definitely one starter out,
perhaps two for tonight's game with the hated New York Knicks.
And we have something that I
I watched for three minutes on the hotel TV when I got to the hotel yesterday here in New York, Rossi, that I was embarrassed for everybody involved in it.
Hmm.
Wow, that's what you call it, professional tease, folks.
That's a professional radio tease.

This is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross on Sports Talk 790.
1019, Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
We're here in New York.
I actually mean in New York.
Ross back in Houston.
Rockets and Knicks.
Tonight will have it free with the launch pad at 530, the network pregame at 6 and
tip time shortly past 630 from the world's most overrated sports arena.
713-212.
579 if you want to get in
713-212-5-7-0.
All right, a couple other things.
We'll get some more
these phone calls in.
One, I do believe that LeBron was in a mix in this.
I think that's a patent lie.
Remember, the average person lies four times a day.
That also includes megastars, sports teams,
general managers, owners, coaches, all that.
They lie. I think LeBron.
LeBron had to know.
100% had to know.
Agree or disagree in sports, RV.
Yeah, I imagine he was alerted.
Maybe he wasn't involved with the,
the negotiations or anything like that.
But at least before the trigger
was pulled, he was alerted.
Yes. Number two,
Nico, what was his name?
Nico Harrison, is that the general manager?
I think it's Nico Collins.
It's not Nico Collins.
It's Nico Abramowitz,
and he apparently is a former Nike executive.
Yes.
That has a relationship with Rob Polinka,
who's a former sports agent.
Neither one of them have ever been a general manager before
until the jobs they just inherited now.
It's been on the job for a few years.
You know what Nico Harrison was famous for before this?
The Kobe shoe?
The Steph Curry shoe.
Oh, Seth Curry.
No, he botched the 2013 presentation to Steph Curry.
He called him Seth and then accidentally played the presentation used for Kevin Durant.
No.
Okay.
So that's another thing.
I understand secrecy.
actually I respect secrecy when it keeps being tight-lipped on things.
Do you think maybe Nico was afraid that he started calling other teams
kicking the tires on Luca that the word would get out
and that eventually you'd hear about Luca Donchich rumors
that would probably affect Luca Donchers?
I don't know how you take a top five player in the NBA.
In the not even really the super prime of his career, he's 25 years old.
He's got 10 years at least in the NBA left.
As long as well, taste of his doughy body when he's been health has been an issue.
Number one, very clearly the man's organization was upset.
And they got to a boiling point.
Clearly, they tried to talk to him.
We've heard reports over the years of them like, hey, stop messing with all the refs.
Like, this is enough.
Clearly, for years and years and years, they've been trying to get him to get into shape.
He plays himself into shape.
He doesn't say into shape.
If we're kind of, we can't sell this as Luca Donchitz is this perfect angel dynamic.
playmaker, no doubt about it.
Bitch about the officials every single time.
He's got issues.
Luca Donchish is not perfect, and the Mavs clearly
hit a boiling point. But even given
that, getting back Anthony
Glassman Davis
and a first rounder doesn't make any
sense. Not going to any other
teams, doesn't make any sense.
Don't forget Max Christie.
I really
try not to be conspiracy theory and
use the word collusion, but this just stinks
from the high evidence.
So a big storyline yesterday around the NBA or the World Sports World is that the Lakers always figure out a way to get stars.
Somehow, some way, they get stars.
Yes.
Mark Gassall being the last example of, or is a Powell Gassau.
Which one was the – Powell was the – Paul was the Laker.
Yeah.
Paul Gassol from Memphis.
Shack from the Orlando Magic.
Kobe gets drafted in middle first round on the trade with Charlotte.
But they go get James Worthy in this, you know, and who they had somebody else.
They drafted James Worthy, right, or no?
Yeah, they drafted James Worthy.
Was it him and Byron Scott both in the same draft?
They got, didn't he go like number one James Worthy?
No.
Or it was very.
No, Magic went one.
Let me look it up.
James, I want to say, was mid to late first round from that mistake.
James Worthy first overall pick, 1982.
Just like I said, the very first overall selection.
Yeah, how do the Lakers who did?
It was some kind of crazy, there were some crazy circumstances around that, too, I think.
Yeah.
I mean, 80, they won the championship.
It was like a trade or something.
81, they lost the Rockets in the playoffs.
But, I mean, they were like beginning of showtime, and they were getting showier.
Here it is.
The Lakers traded for the Cavaliers' first round pick in 1979 in exchange for Don Ford.
Hmm.
Hmm.
Yeah.
And then, and Nico Harris, so whatever his name is, he, he, he, uh, he, uh, he, uh, he, uh,
up there with Jason Kidd, and Jason Kidd is just like, what?
What are you doing?
I can't believe.
Nico Harrison.
Nico Harrison, yeah.
I mean, they put J.K.K.
Up there to look like, I mean, I think J.K.K.D. didn't know a word about it.
I really believe it.
You look like there was a deer in headlights up there on that press conference yesterday.
You're doing me what?
You're making me trade.
What?
Now, let me ask you this one.
Well, I say before we go to the phones.
Could Dallas be really good this year?
and get that and have the true rim protective they were looking for.
I mean, they already have Daniel Gaffer.
I mean, they got some guys underneath, but AD wakes up with a double-double.
Problem is he goes into coma for a while a lot of times.
Yeah.
And he's going with the defense wins championships thing.
Like, okay, AD gets a lot of blocks and he's good defensively,
but he can get beat up and muscled around by bigger centers.
Yeah, I mean, again, an injured toenail, he's out for two weeks.
Oh, man.
this just does not all add up. It just doesn't.
I'll throw this out in the audience. Do you all believe in conspiracies?
It was there some intent to get the Lakers?
Are they the chiefs of the NBA?
Is everybody want the Lakers to win?
Does everybody in the NBA want the Lakers to win?
I'm going to put it this way. It's one or the other.
It is absolutely institutional, like, malpractice and dysfunction from the Mavericks,
or there's collusion. It's one of the other.
It's either one of the dumbest.
trades in the history of the sport or it's collusion. It's got to be one or the other.
Because otherwise it makes no sense.
I'm going to tell you right now, it's just the dumbest trade ever because we have seen sports
teams make dumb trades. We know what in these parts not too long ago.
Let's talk to Tony and Angleton at 1026. Tony, good morning.
Wow, guys, it's trades like this that makes this sports radio is interesting because
there's going to be a lot of discussion. I'm going to let people behind me do all that.
I'm not going to talk about the conspiracy or anything.
I just want to know about how the rockets are going to benefit for this
because it looks like to me that the Mavericks are going to tank, man.
They're going to tank.
And aren't we tied to them with some kind of draft considerations or something with the Mavericks?
The lower they, the lower the worse they do, the better we, our position gets out of my ship.
I would have to just, I have to look at the draft situation.
I disagree.
I don't like the Mavericks are trying to do.
tank. I mean...
No, no, I'm not saying they're going to tank, man.
I'm just saying they gave up almost 90...
I think they gave up 90 points in the first half last night.
Yeah. Yeah. And it might just
been some of the shock, the shock value of it all.
Absolutely.
That they just say, like, are you kidding me? Really?
You trade your tape, trading this guy. But I think
a lot of you were saying something about his weight.
And I was noticing the same thing, man.
He has put on some weight.
And I think it has a lot to do with
him, with with Luca. I think that
I think they'd had enough.
And he's perfect for L.A.
He'll be, I think he'll do fine there.
But as it pertains to the Rockets, man, listen, I'm excited about this team.
Matt, you're there with him every day.
Yeah.
And I, if they may, he's not going to, you know,
he's going to kick the tires on any opportunities the Rockets have to get better.
Rethel Stone, but I'm excited about this team,
and they're a couple pieces away from being really, really good.
So I'm just kind of looking at it from a rocker's perspective,
but I'm going to listen to the whole show because it's going to be dominated.
Thank you.
Normally we're already getting ready for baseball season, but this is exciting, man.
Oh, no.
Thank you, Tony, for the phone call and nice words.
We'll have baseball cover for you, too.
We will not have former Green Bay Packer linemen of the 1970s on the show today, Ross,
unavailable to us because we're not at Radio Row.
That's unfortunate.
It would have been good stuff.
Okay.
Yeah, we'll address it.
Again, I'm not worried about draft picks, honestly.
I am as anti-NBA draft as it gets because after about the top five,
first of all, this year's NBA draft.
I mean, can you name the first pick?
Cooper Flagg.
No, that's next year, Rossi.
Not this year.
Oh, this past year?
Zachary Orescia.
Who did not play against the Hawks.
I was so disappointed.
I had Rich Chachier ready to go on my play-by-play.
I'm sorry.
And then it was Alex Sar.
I know the top three after that. Don't ask me anything.
Stefan Castle,
and Antonio, probably going to be...
He was fourth, yes.
Yeah, he was four. He's good, too.
All right, 1029, Sports Talk, 790.
It is the Matt Thomas show of Ross.
We'll address more on this, and we've got some other things to get to, including Ross.
Three minutes of television viewing.
I'll never, ever get back.
Oh, and we have an all-pro trade request in the NFL.
Ooh, is it juicy?
Mildly.
mildly juicy. I said, is it all
pro player? That's true.

The
Sports Talk 790. 713-212-5-790 if you want to chime in on the conversation. 7-1-3-212-5-7-90. Ross, there are Phoenix pick swaps, Brooklyn pick swaps. I'm not worried about the draft because honestly the Rockets are winning lots of games. You're not having to rely on draft because, frankly, the NBA draft does not deliver like it did say, I don't know, even 10 years ago.
Yeah, it's very confusing anyways.
I mean, you've got to keep track of all these picks,
he's got to be capologists.
It's ridiculous.
Yeah, it's the hardest number to talk about.
The only reason I brought up the Supermax today
because people will bring up the fact that Luke is losing $100 million in the deal.
Now, he'll get it, but he will not begin what they call,
the kids call a Supermax.
Stay dedicated to your team.
Don't get traded and make an all first, second or third NBA team,
and you can make the most money on God's given earth,
that one NBA player can make.
I was going to say, well, it's not like he's going to starve,
but then that just seems like it's a joke about his weight,
and that's just not fair to him.
Yeah, we're, um, so he's, how tall is he?
6.11?
He's 6.7.
Oh, Lucas?
6.7. 270. That's hefty.
Ding.
That's beyond doughy, if you really wear if he's...
Oh, really? Looks like he's actually... He's listed at 6.6.230.
So that's a lie.
Can you lose a quick four?
I mean, did he gain a quick 40 while he has been hurt?
I mean, the listed weight, well, how accurate.
I know they changed it to where they were going to do accurate heights and weights in the NBA.
Is that still going on?
Yeah, I think so.
I don't think anybody's been lying.
Okay.
Every time I look at PJ Tucker, he's losing a half an inch.
Hmm.
All right.
I don't think I meant to say that, but you know what I meant by.
No, I don't.
Yeah, you do.
Yeah, you do.
I have no clue.
713-212-5-7-9 if you want to chime in on the conversation.
7-1-3-21-2-5-7-90.
So real quick, we got some other things to get.
Oh, by the way, let's pay off on your all-pro trade request.
Miles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns,
according to our good friend Adam Schaefter, has requested a trade.
Doesn't everybody request a trade eventually out of Cleveland?
Yes.
You actually really, I don't know how long this is,
often this has happened, Matt. He released a trade request via statement.
As a kid, dreaming of the NFL, all I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl,
and that goal fuels me today more than ever. My love for the Northeast Ohio and the incredible
fan base of the Browns made this one of the toughest decisions of my life.
Not really. These past eight years have shaped me in a man I am today.
I love calling the city of my home. I desire to win and compete on the biggest stage won't
allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton. It always
been to compete and win a Super Bowl. With that in mind, I have requested to be traded for
Cleveland Browns.
Has this happened before?
Releasing a statement to request to trade?
I just love sports in 2025.
So you're telling me he didn't even call the bros and say something?
Normally it leaks out.
Miles Garrett, like, yeah, I want out.
Here's a statement with my signature on it and my life story.
Yeah, the best trade requests are the ones that do not have to hear from Adam Schaefter.
Like, when JJ Watt wanted something to say, he just went to his Twitter account.
I have mad respect for that.
Yeah.
Okay, so he's unhappy in Cleveland.
Call me stunned.
What is his age?
What's the wear and tear?
Has he been healthy?
He's had some, I mean, look, he's had some injury issues, but that's...
He's an edge player in the NFL.
He's one of the most athletic physical freaks on the planet.
He is 29.
Six-time Pro Bowl or four-time All-Priol.
So there's some, there's some trend on the time.
23 defensive player of the year.
14 sacks.
Since his rookie year, he has never had under 10 sacks in a year.
Mm.
Four time AP first.
So we can just and disgust that the Texas trade form.
First time all, first time all pro.
I mean, sorry.
Four time first team all pro.
God, he's really good, huh?
For the last five years, the other year he made second team.
How many games he to play this year?
17.
Oh, he's going to get more.
gets to go where he wants.
You know, it's funny.
We've always spent all this time defending.
Well, you know, life for an NFL player is a little more difficult because you don't have a
guaranteed contract.
Have we ever really worried about a guy's future if they were good, about whether they were,
I mean, all they do is ask for, just like in the NBA, they ask to get out of these deals.
You know what this world is, Rossi?
What is this world?
Soft.
Soft.
We have guys getting, we have college kids leaving year after year after year, playing.
playing for four different schools in four years.
We got players who sign contracts,
who then get unhappy because of the coach,
and then it's the coach fired,
and then he has to request for a trade.
We got Miles Garrett going on probably IG, TikTok,
bumble.
You're absolutely right, Matt.
I want you to go up to Miles Garrett and tell him right in his face.
Miles Garrett, you're soft.
You know, Miles Garrett, why don't you stick it out?
Stick it out like your man, Laramie Tonsle does.
A man's a warrior.
He's been with his team through good times.
and some bad times.
Miles Gary, you're the cornerstone piece of that Cleveland Brown's defense.
You can't be asking for a trade.
It won't give good value back.
He wants to go win a Super Bowl.
He's a winner.
So, the rest of the other 1,500 players in the NFL.
Man, this is terrible.
All we want to do is the first sign of us being will be going.
It's not the first sign, man.
It's the Cleveland Browns.
That's true.
You don't want to forget what I'm saying.
It's Cleveland.
You suck.
You're going to say it.
I think you get a free pass if you want out of the Cleveland Browns.
you've done, you have done everything humanly
possible to help that team win, and
your team continues to have poor choices
as a coach and general manager.
You have put in your fair time.
It's time to go on.
Seriously. They're sticking with Deshawn
Watson. He's like his time
get out of here. Yeah.
That seems fair. All right,
real quick. So I get to
the hotel yesterday, probably
about 4 o'clock
New York time yesterday. Okay.
and you know the first thing i do is besides you know unpack my clothes and stuff what i out is to see
what's on the tv channel selections i have like some some places have like all the different sports
channels some have a couple some have a few but i was just flipping around and damn it the damn
pro bowl came on for a minute oh good did you watch it three minutes what was on the flag football
portion okay how was that it was stupid what was stupid about it everything
You're telling me, Ross, stay with me on this.
Okay.
You have battled for 17 hard weeks to gain the respect of coaches
and your fellow players and media.
And you have been named to a Pro Bowl.
That is so great.
And what is the reward?
You get to jump on a plane, go to Orlando,
and play flag football with plays being called by Eli Manning.
That sounds like a fun weekend.
That sounds absolutely ridiculous.
Why?
It's a good time.
time.
That'd be like Ross, Matt and Ross, you guys have done a great job on this radio show.
You've taken the station to levels they've never received them before.
And we want to give you a gift.
What's a gift?
We want to give you a box of cracker jacks.
So you can snack out.
This is the worst analogy you've ever made.
In between breaks.
How about this, Rossi?
We want to send you and Ross on a trip.
You guys have worked so hard.
And so much for this radio station.
We want to give you a gift that is representative of your hard work at the radio station.
We're going to send you to Port Arthur for three days.
Ooh, nice.
We see the Janus Joplin Museum.
That'll take care of 15 minutes at that trip.
We can go to the Babe Saharis Museum.
No, that's in Beaumont.
This is a trip to Boathe.
Oh, it's a hop and a skip.
It's the golden triangle.
I'm serious.
And then they said, coming up next, tug of war.
I'm like, oh, hell no.
They got to stop doing that tug-of-war.
somebody's going to get hurt i i didn't watch it didn't see it but i'm like once again i'm going to ask
all of you my friends my family that listen to this radio show even people that hate me say no to the
pro bowl here was a problem ross there were like 50 000 people in orlando watching this thing
oh wow good for them bowl bowl sucks what do you want them to do the game was bad because
nobody wanted to play it then make the game then reconfigure the game then but don't do don't make it like
field day and when we're in the fifth grade
in elementary school. They're having a fun time. They're filming it.
If you don't like it, you don't have to watch. I didn't watch it.
You did watch it. Three minutes.
And Ross,
I don't have infinite minutes left in my life.
I lost three of them right there.
You could have lost just one. You were gripped.
You know, you probably really loved it and you just turned it off
because you wanted to stand on your principles.
Is that what it is? Is that what you think it was?
Yeah, I think you were actually really entertained.
You don't even know me. That's a lie.
You have seriously no idea what you're talking about.
All right, it is 1043 in the Matt Thomas show at Ross.
713-212-5-790.
7-13-212-5-790.
We'll go to check-in in Los Angeles in about 17 minutes to get the perspective of an NBA beatwriter
and a guy that follows the Lakers very tightly.
It's a Matt Thomas show of Ross as you listen to Sports Talk 790.
And you listen, as I tell you, it's end of February.
How you been doing on the New Year's resolutions?

Returned.
On Sports Talk 790.
Congratulations to Kendrick LeVarro for yet another Grammy last night.
Four, Maddie.
Four of them.
Oh, he won more than Barryman.
Who is that woman who dressed?
Hold on.
Before we get to the other.
Oh, God.
I know where you're going with this.
Who is that woman?
Kanye West's wife
Okay, and she knows that we got to see everything, right?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure she knows that, Matt.
How does she not know?
You think she accidentally walked out like that?
I'm just saying, I'm just asking for a friend.
It's called high fashion, Matt.
She's a model.
Yeah, that was high fashion, all right.
How many women in America have worn that exact dress?
Zero?
Perfect.
And it's a statement, Matt.
She shouldn't have made a statement
It's a fashion statement
Were they able to stick around or they get kicked out?
I don't know honestly
I believe they were escorted out
Oh okay
Now that makes sense
So we will be celebrating all things
Kendrick Lamar
Not only this week
As he won more Grammys
But he will be the halftime act
Where America will university love him
Oh excuse me
He won five Grammys
And won one Grammy Awards
Barry Manil
Still sticking with one
I never said that he was a bigger Grammy winner.
You always want to put that in there.
I'm just going to say,
America is going to tell you how awesome Kendrick Lamar was on Sunday at halftime.
I don't care.
Yeah, so I'm saying I don't care,
but what a bunch of Grammy voters say,
if you're going to give me a one set of songs to listen to the rest of my life,
I'm choosing Barryman a little.
I know you are, Matt.
But maybe I'll be so enthrall with halftime on Sunday
that I'll want to download a bunch of his songs.
I doubt it.
That's okay.
They said, you're not the target audience.
You don't know that.
He wants everybody.
He's inclusionary.
I don't think you're in his target audience at all.
He wants everybody. He wants all of us.
No, Matt.
He says you're not like us.
Oh, so I can't be.
So he's telling me I'm not invited to listen to his music.
No, I think you are, Matt.
Okay, very good.
All right, it is 1052.
We're going to talk to Mark Medina of Sports Central L.A. and Fox Sports
Radio coming up at the top of the hour.
And look, you know, there isn't a whole lot going
on this week, at least leading up to
the Super Bowl. And once we get closer
to it, by the way, we'll be having a couple of guests mixed
in throughout the course of week, especially later
in the week. But
this
is once again why I think I said this
about once or twice here. I have a feeling
that the NBA offseason or
trade deadline, you put those two
little windows of time in, maybe
are more exciting than some of the games are, frankly.
Because
everybody in their mother, now granted,
I was at the, I was at a party
after the Rockets game on Saturday night.
Everybody was flipping out.
Everybody was like, are you sure Shams has not had his account hacked?
I was in disbelief, yeah.
Yeah. Disbelief.
And I really can't.
Like, look, when DeAndre got traded, we were clearly stunned, as we've put the audio of that several times.
But it didn't have the stop what you're doing that this trade had, that this trade had.
where people in Houston were obviously like what is going on,
people in Arizona are going on, what's going on?
And basically the rest of the NFL is like,
what's two of the dumbest franchises in sports that are making dumb moves?
Is this a case where Nico Harrison's just like,
I don't know what I'm doing?
So I might as well deal with the devil and hang out with a friend
who I was friends with before and let him go to L.A.
And, I mean, why would you want that guy interrupting your future as a franchise
you play him three to four times a year.
I mean, if you're going to do that,
ship Luke to Washington or something.
Ship him to Charlotte where you don't have to have him directly in your face.
He's going to be on TV, Ross, 12 times a year for the next
seven or eight years of his NBA career.
Probably more when you factor in playoffs.
You know what I mean?
I mean, this is going to be, no wonder Dallas fan was losing their mind.
They put burial plots out there in front of the arena.
They're going on.
There was apparently some insensitive things said about Nico that was put on some
paint
we don't need to be destroying
property over this.
It's just a trade, but
I didn't realize Dallas fans
had such
I'll say piss and vinegar
for the Mavericks.
Well, the Mavericks won a couple of years back.
Oh, that's great.
When does Cowboy training game start?
Yeah, I'm still in disbelief.
I thought I'm with you,
I thought Shams got hacked.
Even when he responded to himself
saying this is real, it's like, no, this is not real.
Yeah, somebody's still been out.
Somebody really has the account in lock.
Yeah.
And then other
NBA pro reporters
started confirming it
and that's when I was like
okay I guess it's real
it's the name called
Stephen A at his house
I was just on
ESPN's broadcast
of the Lakers and the Knicks
and I could have been home
and join a fine
Why am I doing this?
I should stop
This is absolutely unconscionable
by Nico Harrison
in the Dallas Madvix
Yeah
so basically they were like
And again
we'll have to find some other opinions
on this and it may not be
as simple as this
but maybe it's like, man, we're tired of you, we're tired of telling you to get in shape.
We're tired of you having soft tissue injuries.
Yes.
We're tired of you having, and we're not going to put $350 million in your piggy bank
for a guy who's going to miss 25 games a year because it can't keep himself in shape.
Analogy time.
Is this you or somebody else?
Anology time for me, Matt.
Okay, now, as someone who is the official analogy expert, I'm a very tough critic on this.
So go ahead.
The Mavericks were dating a 9.5.
And everybody's like, man, I can't believe you pulled her.
That is great.
But it's just been, she's been acting crazy, possessive, and just, I mean, flirting with a bunch of guys on Instagram.
He's like, you know what?
This headache ain't worth it.
You break up with her.
And all your boys are like, what are you doing?
You need to marry that girl.
And it's like, you just don't understand.
So on the outside, it looks like a perfect situation.
But on the inside, there's a lot more turmoil than we thought.
Not bad.
can I add one caveat?
Yes.
To this relationship you're speaking of, the nine and a half?
This nine and a half wants you to buy her an expensive apartment.
She wants a supermax apartment.
Yeah.
She wants a lot.
A supermax loft.
Yeah, she wants a loft.
She wants a full butler service.
She wants an upgraded car.
Now, remember, you could still be with her.
Yeah.
You get all the benefits of being with a nine and a half.
Yes.
But she's looking for upgrades.
But you're growing for hate and she wants more.
Yeah.
You're growing hate for her.
and she wants more.
Have you been concerned about her weight at all at this one?
Well, I don't think of her she's a nine and a half, no.
That's different.
That's true.
Okay.
There you have it.
Those, that's the analogies you will get from this radio show and no other in the
marketplace.
Matter of fact, I want you, we have Mark Medina joining us here.
I want you to go with this, see if he likes our analogy.
Okay.
It should go over a well.
Let's start the second hour of the Matt Thomas show in just a matter of moments with
Ross.
713.
212.
5, 790.

Lunch timers.
This is the Matt Thomas show.
Our next guest has been a long-time NBA reporter based out of Southern California.
You can hear him definitely on the weekends here on Sports Talk 7-90.
It's part of the Fox Sports Radio Network.
And he joins us.
It's Mark Medina.
I believe it for the second time in the history of this radio show.
Mark, it's Matt, here in New York City.
Thanks for joining me today.
we've been trying to find the parallels to this, an analogy.
And Ross is my co-host, and he's not going to be a part of this interview.
But Ross, I want you to jump on the headset real quick if he's there.
Are you there?
Hello.
I want you to give Mark the analogy you just gave to our audience.
And then, Mark, I want you to grade the analogy based of what we saw in her.
Go ahead.
All right, Mark.
So the Mavericks are this friend of ours that's dating like a 9-and-a-half, and she's smoking hot.
And you're like, oh, my God, he's so lucky.
But deep within that relationship, there seems to be some discord.
There's some issues that we don't even know about.
So on the outside, it looks like a perfect scenario.
But perhaps on the inside, there were some strife that we didn't know about, and that's thus the breakup.
Yeah, it doesn't make any sense because unless Luca Dachich said that he wants out, he wants to be traded, he's not going to sign an extension.
This doesn't make any sense.
and the Mavericks and, you know, Lucaside have maintained that that hasn't been the case.
So I think your analogy is spot on that, you know, there might be some insecurity that, oh, this person is going to break up with me months down the line.
So I'm going to get ahead of the curve, even though I want to keep that person, but I just don't want to get my heartbroken.
That seems to be the analogy here.
But the thing that is really confusing on top of that is that Dallas could have gotten a better deal.
I mean, they got Anthony Davis.
he's a great player.
They got Max Christie.
He's an emerging young player.
They got a first-round pick.
But, you know, you only have to look at the Rudy Goldberg trade to see how many, how much you can get in a deal as far as draft picks and other assets go.
Now, it seems like from Dallas's end, they didn't want to prolong this and affect the locker room.
And, you know, sometimes when things get out in the open, that can derail a deal.
But we're talking about a generational town.
I mean, the Lakers basically got a coup here.
Mark, do you think part of the reason why the conversation was just to the Lakers is because
that word travels fast and lips will flap all around the world of sports and they start
spreading the rumor out that he wanted to keep this as quiet as possible.
He said, if I'm going to do that, I've got to just kind of basically have a conversation
with one team.
Yeah, it seems like that was part of the calculus.
I thought it was notable that Nico Harrison in his press conference the other day was
creating Rob Polinka for keeping this secret.
if they had some informal conversations a few weeks ago,
and it was very comforting to him that word didn't get out.
So, yes, when you look at certain deals like this,
or several years ago when the Lakers got Pal-Gissal in 2008,
no one knew about this.
I think at the same time, though, we're in a different era
where things get out quickly,
there's a lot more people on staff or social media,
that any expectation that nothing is,
is out in the open is fairly unrealistic, but I think given the context of they're talking about
a generational star, if it's out, who knows how it affects the locker room and how Luca feels,
and if a deal doesn't work out, you know, is it almost like the toothpaste is out of the
tube? But again, I go back to what the Dallas Mavericks got in return. Anthony Davis is a great
player. He's a defensive player of the year candidate. They are a playoff team. But you
could have gotten even more out of this.
So I'm just really surprised that this is what they wound up green upon.
I don't know.
Did you watch the press conference yesterday with Harrison and with Jason Kidd?
I felt first of all disappointed with Jason Kidd because I think he was a deer in headlines on this.
And in Harrison's case, I just felt like he needed to backtrack in almost every single statement he said
because people are probably in that room going, this sounds good, but you're full of crap.
I thought it was notable when Nico said right next to Jason, hey, he didn't know about it, but he's on board.
And what Jason's supposed to say?
I mean, he said he's on board, too.
No one knew about this.
It's just one of those things that, again, unless Luca gave directives, I won out.
You may as well get something of value out of me.
I don't get this trade at all.
I mean, the Dallas Mavericks made the NBA finals last season.
And in fairness, I did talk to some executives before the season started for, you know, season preview-type work.
And some of them remarked to me that they felt like Dallas was a one-hit wonder as far as getting back to the finals.
But didn't really have anything to do with Luca and any shortcomings he has.
It was just more of the roster that there was a lot of credit being given that Kyrie,
Kyrie Irving's shown that he can co-exist
with Luca. He's a better leader
that did get some roster depth.
You know, they drafted Derek lively
the second. They're PJ Washington, great win
player that just got Clay Thompson.
But is it quite enough
to compete in this very competitive
Western Conference landscape?
And when you're looking at this trade here,
again, Anthony Davis is a
great player. He's going to coexist well
with Kyrie Irving. But I don't think it
really does anything as far as changing their
playoff fortunes. It doesn't
worsen it significantly in the short term.
There's still a team that will be a tough playoff out,
but I don't think that this catapults them in the Western Conference landscape.
And I think the bigger thing is long term.
There's a lot of questions.
All their core players, Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Clay Thompson,
they're getting older in age here.
And where you contrast that with the Lakers,
I think there's short-term questions about,
even though Luca Dachich is a generational talent,
how's the fit going to be with LeBron, James, and Luca,
even though there's a lot of respect for each other,
just half a season's worth of games
is that enough to really get the chemistry going?
What are they going to do with the center position?
And what are they going to do with their defense?
I don't have any good defenders.
But in the long term, the Lakers set themselves up
to have that next generational superstar
for whatever LeBron James decides to retire.
And that's obviously going to be soon
because he's 40 years old.
He still has a player option next year,
but he's obviously said,
he is toward the end of his career than the beginning of it.
So, yeah, there's a lot to unpack and the contrast between what this means for the Lakers and the Mavericks couldn't be any clear.
Mark Medina's with it's Mark G underscore Medina M-E-D-I-N-A.
Wethers here from Athlon Sports, CBS-L-A Spectrum, and of course you're hearing weekends on Fox Sports Radio right here on sports talks of any.
Are you really buying that LeBron didn't know anything about this before it went down?
I do. I do buy it.
actually. Look, I'm not going to be naive to say that LeBron James doesn't have influence
on the Lakers. They obviously drafted Brawny James. They know how LeBron
feels about things. But I think the context that we have to be aware of is that the Lakers
dynamical LeBron James changed after the Russell Westbrook trade. Now, there's a lot of different
versions depending on when you listen to the Lakers side of things or LeBron side of things
as far as to what extent his voice actually carried weight with this Russell Westbrook trade.
You know, the Lakers would say, you know, LeBron really push for it at the 11th hour,
even though they're about to get buddy healed.
LeBron's people will say, yeah, he was in support of Russ,
but it was in the larger context of the Lakers asking him, as well as other deals.
So with that context being said since then, because that deal hasn't worked out,
there's been a healthy distance where the Lakers really haven't factored in his input
when it's specifically with trade deadline moves and free agency moves.
And LeBron has been detached from that process because I think from his own self-interest,
he doesn't want to get signed blame if a deal goes bad and then says, yeah, well, this is what LeBron
wanted.
So I think we have to keep in mind that outside of them drafting Bronte James, and I know that
that has sparked a lot of reaction anyway.
The Lakers haven't done anything that has reflected what LeBron's wanted from personnel standpoint.
I think with Brunney specifically, that calculus is a little bit different,
where from the Lakers then, they didn't feel like they really gave up a lot because it's a second-round pick.
Most second-round picks don't really pan out well that much.
He hasn't really played much in the actual NBA.
It's mostly been G-League games.
So, yeah, I do believe to your original question that he didn't know about it.
Yeah, I just feel like he knows everything.
And so that doesn't really make a difference at the point.
The deal was still made.
But I think I'm just naturally hesitant to believe that Rich Paul and LeBron did not have some sort of intel beforehand.
Let me get to the Dallas side before we wrap things up with you.
Tell me exactly what we know about Mark Cuban's current role with the team.
I know he sold the majority interest of the franchise.
I know that their new ownership in the Dallas organization has casino ties.
They have never hidden the fact they want to get casino gambling in Texas to build, I think, perhaps a future palis involving the Mavericks and a gambling casino, mono, mono.
If there's conspiracy theories out there in Twitter, which I don't believe in, but you know what, for the sake of this crazy story,
is the Dallas Mavericks long-term future in jeopardy
if casino gambling does not come to Texas?
That is a very fluid thing.
It's very hard to really answer that question
because there's so many moving parts
as it pertains to any moves,
relocation or just having new business ventures.
But I think to the original point that you're making about Mark Cuban,
I think that this illustrates very clearly.
He doesn't run things at all
and pertaining to the basketball side.
Now, he might still have some role on the business side,
but if it were up to Mark Cuban,
they wouldn't be trading Luca Dodgers.
I mean, he's already been on record
in a very strong statement saying
if he had to choose between, you know,
staying with his wife or trading Luca,
he would get his divorce papers ready.
A little strong, but that's what Mark Cuban is known
to say. I think the bottom line is
whether it was Luca or Dirk
or any kind of generational
talent. Mark Cuban was very
a strong believer
that you hold on to those
legendary players
and don't make any exceptions
whatsoever.
Because there is the rumor that
and again these are just rumors that if
something falls apart in Dallas and the
casino and the new ownership group doesn't get a
casino that they would be willing to move the team to
Las Vegas. I'm just curious because
You know Las Vegas is going to get an NBA franchise either through expansion or a franchise moving.
It's just a matter of time.
Yeah, and I think the one thing, again, these are moving parts,
but I would be surprised just as an educated guess that there is a relocation.
The NBA could have the power to exert things,
and the NBA doesn't want relocation to happen.
They want expansion to happen.
They also want to make sure that, you know,
know, mid and small markets aren't a good position too.
And so, you know, the MBA, now that there's not a commissioner that's having to be an acting owner with a franchise,
they're not going to dig into personnel moves and say yes or nay on a deal.
But they're, I think, going to be very active in making sure that all their different markets are well represented.
And they feel like Dallas is a really strong market because of the history.
So, again, a lot of fluidity.
No one knows exactly how this will play out from the business end,
but I'll be on record and say, and I'd be surprised that it would be any relocation.
It would be expansion.
I got 30 seconds, and you've been awesome, Mark, as you normally are.
I listen on the weekends.
How long is Nico Harrison's leash in Dallas right this second?
I think his leash is fine right the second,
but this decision is obviously his legacy.
see. So we're going to see very clearly how well this plays out. And again, I think the intriguing
part about this is in the short term, I think they're going to be fine. They're a team that
has been up and down all season for different reasons. They're still going to be a player in the
playoffs. But I think even prior to this trade, they're sealing with second round at best. I think
where, you know, the chickens come home to roost, so to speak, is how things will look like, you
the next two seasons with all this.
Mark, thank you very much for the time.
We really appreciate it.
Looking forward to hear more of you on the weekends on Fox here on this radio station.
And thanks for joining us here this morning.
Thanks so much.
Great chalk and hoops with you guys.
Yeah, for sure.
Thanks very much.
Mark Medina joining us from 3,000 miles away from me in Los Angeles,
where he has been all over this Lakers trade with the Dallas Mavericks.
All right.
Bottom of the hour, we have to tell the truth.
Rossi, I have four sports takes.
you only believe one of them.
Oh dear.
Let's say it again.
Matt has four sports takes.
Matt has four sports takes.
He only believes one of them.
He only believes one of them.
There you go.
You did it.
I'm kind of proud of you.
That's coming up at the bottom of the hour.
It is the Matt Thomas show with Raw.
713-212-5-790.
7-13-212-5-7-90.
Are we doing Alex Breggman update?
Do we have anything new?
I don't think so.
Well, you know what?
It's a good idea to play the sounder at least
to give off the feeling we do have an update,
so maybe we'll find one for you
between now and the end of the program at 2 o'clock.
713-212-5-790.
I want to tell you about Scott Callahan and Associates,
board certified in personal injury trial law
by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
You're saying, Matt, why is that important?
Well, frankly, because less than 10% of Texas lawyers
are board certified.
25 years experience taking care of those that are suffering from personal injuries.
And he's also been voted a Texas Super Lawyer by the Thompson Reuters Group every year since 2011.
Only the top 5% of Texas attorneys are selected each year.
And if you've got anything going on where you feel like you've not been treated fairly after serious injuries or wrongful death,
car accidents, 18 winter wrecks, work injuries, construction, oil field, or in some cases, unfortunately, wrongful death,
calling Scott Callahan and Associates
were the best thing you can do.

The Matt Thomas show with Ross
continues on Sports Talk 790.
Broadcasting from the New York Studios, Rossi 66 WFAN.
You know the Islanders won yesterday?
Yeah, it was a great game, Maddie.
The Rangers beat the Knights.
That was good at the garden.
And then the damn devil's lost.
Unbelievable.
Seaton Halls drop 14 in a row.
And all everybody wants to talk about is Luca Donchich.
He can't hold Bernard King's jock.
He can't hold Sequin Bakley's jock.
Speaking of Sequin, he was a giant.
You heard the game's here on 66 WF.
Perhaps our weakest character flaw is the ability to impersonate obnoxious.
No, we've got weaker ones.
New York sports personalities.
We've got much weaker ones.
Those guys are making sick times what I'm making.
They have to live here.
I mean, it's fine.
That's true.
They cost the living like six times as much.
Oh, it's crazy.
And the weather's kind of, it was sleeting last time we went at the dinner.
Can we play how much were Matt's pancakes?
No, because I think, we went to a steakhouse last night.
There was, would have been the same in Houston, too, since I, yeah.
Mount Macs?
I went and got me a steak egg and cheese bagel at the McDonald's down the street from my hotel on 66.
Steak egg and cheese bagel 999.
Ash, brown, large coffee, two, spank.
blend is one cream a it's like ten dollars and twenty cents which is probably about nine at the
house at the home okay it's not that bad it's not bad yeah one thing nice about going to new york
is no matter where you are you're going to find a duncan donut somewhere close a mcdonald's somewhere
close or like a side deli it's got a slice there's not a famous heritage new york uh donut place
i'm sure there is but i like to go within 400 feet of my hotel so we're good yeah you don't hop on
the train go see the city no we're very we're very we're very well we're very well we're very well you're
Work very close to Madison Square Garden.
We're within walking distance.
Oh, that's great.
Yeah.
Now, tomorrow we're not in walking distance.
We'll take the Brooklyn Bridge over to play the Nets.
Those damn pesky Nets who beat the Rockets on Saturday.
But a bad Saturday for me.
Cougars the previous Saturday beat Cleveland in Cleveland.
The Rockets did.
Cougars beat Kansas in Lawrence.
This Saturday, Rockets lose the Nets.
And my Cougars lose the Texas Tech where apparently we're fighting all over the building.
and it didn't involve my son, thank God.
Wait a minute.
They lost?
Yes, and overtime.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
Hmm, so one more left.
Aren't you glad I talked to you out of only one conference loss?
I'm still going to take the loss on that.
You know that, right?
We'll see what happens.
Still taking it.
A lot of basketball left.
A lot of basketball left.
20 conferences.
So that people were fighting at the Fertita Center?
Yes.
Really?
Yep.
Gosh, what's wrong with you?
You Cougars and your Red Raiders?
A bunch of rabble rousers.
Seriously, I would say if the two schools in a big 12,
they're going to throw hands pretty quick,
it's going to be us and the Red Raiders.
Baylor, too nice.
BYU, too nice.
Colorado, they're on medicinals.
Arizona, Arizona State, all they want to do is party.
They don't want to fight.
We can fight.
That's disappointing.
You'd expect better.
Well, not from the Red Raiders.
At least from the Cougars.
They're bored.
They live in Lubbock.
It's not a lot to do.
By the way, Cameron proudly wore his Texas Tech Pat Mahomes jersey to the game.
Okay.
And was accosted by many people.
That's funny.
Verbly abused.
Why is he wearing a football jersey to a basketball game?
Because big fellows don't usually wear basketball jersey.
You don't want...
Only Broskies wear basketball jerseys out.
Why is he wearing like a Darwin Ham vintage?
Because I don't think you know who Darwin Ham is.
Who's the greatest Texas Tech basketball player of all time?
There was a guy named Lance Hughes, who was like a white chocolate thunder.
Hmm.
Andre Emmett, that's who I was trying to go.
Is it Andre Emmett?
No, it's a guy in the league for the last handful of years.
He's out of the league now, but he was pretty good.
Gerius Jackson?
No, he was on that Final Four Texas Tech team.
First round pick, if you said his name, I would be able to tell you, but it's not.
Andre Emmett's their all-time leading score.
I mean, I'm sure he could be.
He was good back in the day.
Yeah.
Darwin Ham would be on that short list for sure.
Who is the Texas Tech Final Four team that was, I'm Googling it right now.
I can look it up, I guess.
It's not great.
I got it.
It's not great radio.
It's fine.
But he was the first round picking the NBA, and he just could never last.
He was not very good.
That's a shame.
I'll bring it.
I'll bring it up.
I'll find it.
You keep talking.
Hey, we have to tell the truth coming up next where I'm going to, I have four sports takes,
three of which I don't believe.
One, I do.
It'll be up to Ross and Connor to figure out.
which one sports tech, I do believe.
We have the news coming up.
Jared Culver?
That's it, Jared Culver.
Yeah, first round, sadly.
But it made good money, I'm sure.
You'd think Texas Tech would have one guy who made it in the league?
God, how many, I don't even know how many Texas Tech NBA players there are.
Poor guys.
Yeah, it's fine.
Cougars are plentiful around the NBA.
Thankfully.
Final four appearance this year, and now,
plenty of NBA players.
Their all-time leader for rebounds in a season, Paul Nolan.
Didn't we used to have him on Fridays at 230?
1951, yeah.
That Paul Nolan on the recorded line?
Maybe.
So he went from being a Texas Tech rate rebounder to giving out plus and minuses on the game
between Boston College and Arkansas.
Yes.
All right.
Well, good.
He moved his career along beautifully.
713-212-5-790.
713-212-1-2-579.
Dero Ross, believe it or not today, Luca Dachich, right?
I might have to sprinkle in some AD.
We're running along questions.
By the way, has anybody checked on Lucas' mom during this whole situation?
I'm sure she's doing great.
She's probably not happy.
He's not getting the Supermax.
Ooh.
He's only $100 million less worth than he was, say, 36 hours ago.
Mm-hmm.
When you, by the way, you all should strike.
to begin in a profession where you have something called a supermax salary.
Now, there's only one person I heard to get supermax, and that's Michael Berry.
Yes.
Rod Ryan gets the max.
What about Ryan Sechrest?
Ryan Sechrest, Supermax.
He gets the infinite max.
The breakfast club, unbelievable max.
Yes, true.
I'm on league minimum, but that's all right.
Ross.
I'm happy to be in the league.
Ross, minimum.
A two-way contract.
Matt, median.
So, there you go.
By the way, late news on New York this morning, the Blue Man Group ends their New York residency.
Maybe the unfunniest live performance you'd find in America.
I never saw it.
I didn't either, and I don't need to see it.
There's a bunch of strange dudes wearing blue paint on their head.
And you're supposed to laugh.
It's not good.
By the way, I think we can't have a, when we come back, a Bregman update.
Okay, we've got to do it to tell the truth first.
1150.
Can't wait.
Now you believe one of these?
Only one, Ross.
It's up next here on Sports Talk 790 with a word right now for Berkeley Eye Center.
I know you want to believe that there's a place in town that will give you clear vision without glasses and contacts.
We can certainly believe it because it's going to be found at Berkeley Eye Center.
Right now, you can get 0% financing until 2027 and save over $1,200 by using your flex spending
flex medical or health savings account at work.
So if you want to get LASIC and you want to have it
because you think it's not in your budget,
well guess what?
It is now,
certainly with the folks and the technology
and the staff that you'll find at Berkeley Eye Center.
713-526-I's to schedule your free consultation
so they can prove to you how affordable the vision you deserve really is.
It's LASIC from Berkeley Eye Center.
7-13-5-26 eyes.
If for a LASIC budget you're going to love,
it's 7-13-5-26 E-W.
Yes.
The gentleman of Houston, Texas is that I do know how to tell the truth.
And I'm about to tell you the truth on one of my four sports takes coming up here in the next couple of minutes.
It is Sports Talk 790, the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
I'm coming to you today from New York City.
We're Rockets and Knicks tonight.
We'll have it for you beginning at a 630 tip time from MSG.
Rockets take on Brooklyn tomorrow off Wednesday, play Minneapolis Thursday in the Wolves.
Saturday in Dallas at Ross.
It will be the first home game for the Mavericks since the Luca trade.
Are people even going to show up?
I think I'm going to have to leave early to avoid the protests outside the American Airlines Center.
When does Anthony Davis make his debut?
I know he's out with an abdominal stream, man, which I know shocks you.
Imagine that. Stunner on that bad boy.
All right, guys, I have four takes.
You are only to believe one of them.
Three or lies.
One, I'm telling the truth.
Look, we saw the Aaron Fox get moved yesterday as well from,
the Sacramento Kings to the San Antonio Spurs.
We have seen the Luca trade.
I really believe these two trades have woken up the NBA big time by this Thursday's deadline.
Ross, Connor, we're going to see another top 20 player traded by Thursday's deadline.
I don't know who it's going to be, but it's going to be a, not a mind-blowing like Donchich,
but it'll be something impactful like the Deerrin Fox.
something's going to happen.
Do you consider Jimmy Butler in the top 20?
I was just going to ask that.
Yeah, let's put Jimmy Butler in there.
Okay.
Number two,
I really do believe the fatigue for the Chiefs' Eagles game is real.
People are coming out of it.
People are having Taylor fatigue, Kelsey fatigue.
It's not a matchup we were looking forward to seeing.
We were looking forward to seeing Buffalo or Detroit or Baltimore
more play.
Guys, when it's all said and done, this will not be a top 10 rated Super Bowl.
There may be a lot of television sets, but the ratings are different.
At the end of the day, this will not be a top 10 rated Super Bowl.
Okay?
Number three.
I don't want you guys to worry about how the Lakers or the Mavericks are going to do
in the postseason this year.
Because guess what?
Neither one of them is advancing past the first round.
neither one of them will be in a Western Conference semifinal series.
And fourth, even if Alex Breggman does sign somewhere else,
y'all better be ready.
Jose Al-Tube is going to play a lot of let field.
Even if Alex Bruegman does not sign with the Astros.
I think Al-Tube's transition is beginning.
It will be in full thrust if Bruegman gets here.
it'll be subtle but expect Jose Altubi to get some serious left field playing time in 2020
what's serious 50 games 100 games 50 games okay okay so my four takes another top 20 player will be
traded by thursday's deadline fatigue is set in for the eagles and the chiefs this will not be a top 10
rated super bowl Dallas and lakers are both out of the first round of the playoffs they will not be
the semifinals of the West.
And even if Breggman moves along to somewhere else,
the transition is going to happen this year.
I believe Jose Al-Tube is going to play at least 50 games in left field for the action.
Not that I want him to, not that I need him to, I think the transition is underway.
Which one of the four?
Am I telling the truth?
Matt only believes one of these, correct, Connor?
Yeah, we're finding the one he's telling the truth about the one he believes.
Now, I think last week he literally said on air that he thinks it's going to be a top five-rated Super Bowl.
but he keeps talking about how he doesn't he's not interested in this he's not interested right so he could actually believe that even if we might disagree but he's also not a swiftie
but is he I think his daughter's a swiftie I don't know about him my daughter's a swiftly
it's cost you a lot of money hasn't it man yeah I'm gonna throw out number two though because I don't like even if he if he thinks people are fatigued it's still gonna be I think he still thinks it's gonna be a top 10 I agree with you
I'm tempted to throw out number four
because Dana Brown did say
Jose Altuves kind of playing left field
is contingent upon an addition
so
I'm saying it could still add somebody
true. I mean they could be true or it could not be true
it depends on how the offseason is going to play out
so
I'm throwing out number three
I mean Lakers or Mavs can certainly make the second round
dismissing both of them
Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis
probably enough to get in a second round you would think
or the Lakers and what they have.
If they're healthy.
Yeah.
And the Lakers definitely could.
What, they're number five in the West right now?
Yes.
I think I've done a good job, but you guys are really debating this.
I like this.
This makes me happy.
I think I'm going to go number one.
Well, the problem is you just have to get in the, like,
you got to get in the mind of a crazy.
Get in my head.
These aren't, this is my take.
Yeah.
It's hard getting in the mind of a person with bad takes, you know?
No, my takes are very well respected.
Oh, my God.
We've dismissed these all the time and you believe them.
I'm going to go number one, though.
I think there might be another trade on the horizon.
I don't know if it's Jimmy Butler.
And I can't think of anything on the top of my head.
Yeah, they very well could be a big trade.
They very well could be Al Tuvei playing a lot of left field.
It's just contingent upon them making another move.
I'll go one with you.
All right.
I do believe there is some fatigue for the Chiefs and the Eagles, but come on.
It's the Super Bowl.
It's Taylor Swift.
It's a recognizable team.
It's a huge media market in Philadelphia.
Everybody's going to be watching it.
It's absolutely going to make the top 10.
Now, that was an easy one to throw out.
I wouldn't be surprised if both teams were out of the playoffs in the first round,
but I can't predict that.
That would not be a take I would fall on.
The Lakers, if Luka gets back and they can behave and he and LeBron can work together,
they're going to be dynamic right out of the jump.
And look, Dallas does have another defensive threat that can help them win,
and Kyrie Irving has been playing well.
Yeah, I couldn't bounce both them out easily.
At the end of the day, I really believe that Jose Al-Tube is on his way to left field.
And I can't believe I'm saying this, boys.
This is, again, just an opinion not based on fact.
But I don't think you throw this out to Jose Al-Tubei to say you're going to left field or thinking about it and then say, never mind.
I think this has been something that's been in the works for the Astros,
and they're going to try to figure out a way to get him to play some steady left field.
So towards the latter half of his major league career, it will not be at second base.
It will be in left field.
And that's the one I believe.
So you believe he's getting 50 plus?
Yeah, he could give 50 plus games this year.
Yeah, that's what I believe.
How can you say a top 20 players not getting traded then the rest of this deadline?
I mean, I was just feeling.
In my, like Zion Williamson, I don't think is moving.
I don't think Jimmy Butler's moving.
I think now that Jimmy Butler just yesterday said he's not going.
going to Golden State. I mean, he's basically
telegraphing where he wants to go.
And if Bradley Bill does not want to veto
a trade to go out leaving Phoenix,
it ain't happening. You can't
have those two ridiculous contracts
on the one team with Duran
and with Booker. So, I don't think a top
20 player is going. I think everything
else is going to be just little stuff here
and there.
Okay.
You seem upset.
I mean, I believe four was true. I almost went with four,
but yeah. That's right. Yeah. There's going to be a, I think
there's going to be a trade. And I think Altuva is
going to left. But we're talking about top...
I know. You just got to decide for these bad takes. It's hard.
They're great takes. Horrible.
Amazing takes. All right.
We'll see by Thursday if anybody gets traded.
Then it'll be... You know what it'll be? It'll be a take
that I was wrong about. Yeah, I know.
We got a list of them.
Eh, not many.
Not fun. Not many.
All right. Bregman Update. Up next.
Our time is...
Oh, we got a little time on this segment here.
1240. That was to tell the truth.
you guys and appreciate that.
Obviously, Ross did not,
and that's fine. We can live past.
No, I should just want my instinct
and stuck with four. You're such a sore loser.
Okay.
Don't tell that to Ross either. He'll get mad of that too.
No, I'm not mad.
Next time, Connor, sit under your breath.
I'm just kidding, Ross.
No, that's fine.
By the way, Conner's no longer a lot to go to Rockets games.
He sat in some decent seats on Saturday,
and then Rockets got their ass beat by the Nets.
He took your seats?
The first time we beat the Lakers.
Oh, okay.
You're always welcome then.
He's one in one.
Dang, Connor got Laker seats?
Mm-hmm.
That's great.
Much of your sugar into a former co-worker of ours.
By the way, somebody sent me an email.
That's a listener in Phoenix.
He's like, hey, can you, do you know if there's any discounted tickets for the Rockets and the Suns?
I'm like, I know what you're asking for.
There's subtle ways to ask somebody to help with some freebies and then there's just a direct way.
Maybe he was just asking for a promo code, Matt.
How do I get a promo code for visiting Phoenix Sun's tickets?
promo code M.T.
In Phoenix, and they're going to work?
Maybe.
They don't know you over there?
No, they don't.
Now, Walking Rick Casino knows me very well.
Walking Rick Massino?
Mm-hmm.
They got your cash, don't they?
They do.
Every single time.
And yet I go back every single time.
Hmm.
It's like two casinos I cannot win for.
In Cleveland, I can't win, and in Phoenix I can't win.
But yet I still go.
Yes, you do.
Oh, well.
Just money, Ross.
That's it.
Yeah.
Thinking about retirement, vacation home.
I don't know how you go.
How many casinos, how many times you go to a casino in a given year?
In the league?
Probably a half dozen.
No, I mean, in your life in a year.
Hmm.
Well, Vegas once twice a year.
like Charles three times a year
that's five and MBA is probably
less than 15
still feels like a lot
this may be time to stage it
your wife talking to my mother or my wife
on this your wife and your kids
have a stage intervention yet
I have the play money
the play money hasn't gone away so
thanks for pocket watching me now I'm not pocket watching you
I'm just asking questions
I'm giving you Angela I don't want to give out publicly
thank you much appreciated Ross
Thank you, Matt.
And Breggman Update is up next.
Thank God.
Let's segue out of this.
713-212-570.
Ross has found some Breggman news.
When we find news, we break it to you with an Alex Breggman update.
Right now, I want to tell you about affordable tree service.

That means you want to get those trees looking there very best.
You want them to grow when the weather starts to warm up in a couple of months.
and if you need, not you need, you absolutely deserve,

just evaluated for overall health,
you're going to call Martin Spoon-Wore.

and that means those trees are ready to go for the springtime.

you need to call Martin Spoonmore at Affordable Tree Service.
713-699-2663.
7-1-3-699-2663 affordable tree service.
More Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
Now on Sports Talk 790.
1148.
We have the news at noon coming up.
12 minutes from now.
And right now, we have to give you something ahead of time because it's a bit.
We've got to play the bit sometimes here on the radio program.
We bring you on Alex Breggman Update.
Bregman Update on Matt and Ross's show.
The bit's never going away, much to the chagrin of some.
All right, Rossi, we'll be able to find as we were looking for an Alex Breggman update.
Yes, Matthew.
Well, there is a first nugget with this brink.
Bregman Update is a move made by the Detroit Tigers.
And of course, that ties in because, well, the Detroit Tigers is one of the suitors for Alex Bregman.
Right-handed Jack Flaherty and the Detroit Tigers on agreement in a two-year $35 million contract.
It does include an opt-out after the first season.
I mean, this is essentially a one-year deal.
I don't even know how this happens.
Flaherty getting $25 million in the first year after which he can opt out.
guaranteed salary in
2026 is 10 million
can get as high as 20 million if he starts 15
games this season.
So Flaherty back with the Tigers
and we've already
heard some other reports that
the Tigers have maybe been priced out
of the Alex Breggman sweepstakes.
So we'll see what happens there. And then also
Matt, our friend David Schoenfeld.
Who?
David Schoenfeld.
Of?
ESPN. I don't know. Go ahead.
Has written a full breakdown of Alex
Breggman's free agency.
And he's listed a number of teams and suitors and who the best fits would be.
He lists as Alex Breggman's concerns that he turns 31 in March.
Yep.
Breggman's offensive game hasn't been great as good as it was in earlier years.
And there has been a general decline in his athleticism.
Ooh.
Let me tell you, if Alex Breggman was to see that, he'd say, what's this guy's name, Dave
what?
Dave Schoenfeld.
He'd say, Dave Schoenfeld,
why don't you shut your bum ass up.
He's got to have heard his nut.
He's been in ESP in a while.
Breaking down baseball stuff.
So, I mean, that feels like that's range.
It's not as good as it used to be.
That comes down to that.
Athletes isn't as a.e. meaning range.
As best fits, he lists the Astros,
the Blue Jays,
the Tigers, the Red Sox.
Okay.
And then the Cubs.
And then one other National League team,
the Los Angeles Dodgers.
If Bragg signs with the Dodgers, we're just going to just not talk baseball for six months.
You liar.
That's true.
But really, that would mean every significant, well, except the Juan Soto deal,
everything that was sexy about this baseball for agency involved the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Are we prepared for that?
Are we prepared for them to still be a team that's going to try to win 115 games this year?
What is going on with L.A.?
Why does L.A. get to have all this fun?
I don't know.
They just got one of the top five players in the NBA,
as long as he's not very doy,
which he's doy at this point.
Apparently, of 270 is where the indications are.
They get showy Otani,
who's going to pitch now this year, apparently.
Yes.
Beyond hitting.
And they've gotten every significant free agent,
especially in the international flavor,
we've seen in quite some time.
They won the World Series.
They're going to have the best rotation of baseball.
Their stadium is awesome.
Now, the people that go there are not awesome.
They want to hit you and hurt you.
Damn, Ross.
Maybe we should have been an L.A. fan.
If we get to pick and choose our Rams or Chargers, depending on who's hot that year?
Dodgers potential rotation.
Blake Snell?
Nope.
Shohei Otani.
Not interested?
Oh, what?
Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Love him.
Tyler Gloss.
now.
Rookie Sasaki.
Tony Gonsolin.
Justin May is...
What are these people?
What do you mean? They're real good pitchers.
They have a nine-man rotation. That's not very good.
Yeah, they're all very good, actually.
Astro's struggling to put five out in the field and five in a week.
Yeah.
Oh, damn.
By the way, wind totals I'm seeing on the Astros anywhere between 86 and 89.
Haven't seen a 90 yet.
It feels about right.
I know, but are we used to that?
What's the Fangraphs projection, Matt?
I know you've looked at that.
What is it called again?
Fangraphs?
Oh, Fangraphs.
Yeah, I love Fangraphs.
I was looking at the plane
the whole ride to New York yesterday.
You were.
You know.
Let's see the old projected standings.
Because here's the thing, Ross.
Remember how hard it was for us last year
to run and doing the shows?
How the team slow, slow, slow.
And Dana Brown kept saying,
we're going to turn this thing around.
We're going to get going on this.
And they eventually did.
if you go 87 and 75, that means that gives Astrofan 75 chances to call our radio show
and complain and bitch about what's going on and how Joe's Spot is a terrible manager, Dana
Brown's a terrible general manager, and Lance McCuller's can't stay healthy.
Fangress has 88 wins, and that would be good enough for first in the West.
There you go.
So yet another Western title.
Although there's an error because they only have them playing 161 games.
Maybe one gets suspended.
Well, didn't they only play 161 last year, right?
Remember?
Remember that last game in Cleveland?
They had like a nine-hour reindolin.
I was falling asleep between them.
Okay.
You know what?
That must have been messing with their algorithm because they have the Guardians and the Astros
only playing 161 games.
You know what?
That's my metrics.
I knew that.
Wait a minute.
Now, this is the 24 season.
Never mind.
I'm looking at the wrong thing.
That's what it says that.
I just ruined.
I just wasted two minutes of your finite time.
You were all worried about.
Yeah.
that in the Pro Bowl this week.
Life I'm not getting back.
I'm sorry.
Okay.
So, yeah, are you all ready for 88 wins?
1874 is good.
It's well about 500.
But it's not 90.
Sure is how long 100.
This is going to test some people's...
Rossi, it's going to, frankly,
it's going to test the baseball IQ of people in this town.
Oh, stop.
Failed this test a year after year.
Hey, don't say that to the people
that are listening to the show.
wrong come on now we have a segment called astros overreactions
we're going to do aos on the first day of the season i think we might be
oh my god i haven't forgotten let me look at the astros opening day is against oh you know
is it against it i don't want to say what is i don't make sure i get it right here they're playing
late march opening day is against the the new york metropolitan yeah oh so we can see the
newest star i want to you know is that got me the spain game don't you think
think? I think the second one is or something like that?
You want Soto?
No, I can't remember. No, I can't. Don't quote me on that.
I won't quote you. All right, let's do the news at noon. That's coming up in just a couple of
moments here on the radio program. We also want to get your take on this NBA trade.
And again, if you're not a super big NBA fan, it's okay. I get it. You don't have to go
through the minutia of the Max Christie acquisition or how the second round pixel
will affect the Utah Jazz. We just had something happen in sports that just never happens.
We had a top five player still with tremendous amount of prime playing time left in his career.
Traded just because the Mavericks were tired of him.
Wasn't it because he called a coach out.
It wasn't because he was trying to be out because of injury.
He's like faking injury.
He's got a legit injury.
Maybe that's part of the problem.
But the Mavericks just said, we have a chance to give him super.
Max Money, which nobody else in sports except the current free agents get on their own team,
and we're punting on it.
We don't think he's worth Supermax money.
It's quite incredible.
The news at noon starts in just three minutes here on Sports Talk 790.
Lunchtimeers, this is the Matt Thomas Show.
It is 1202 at H-J.
What's happening in Lunchtime?
Good afternoon to you and welcome to the third hour of the Matt Thomas show on Sports Talk 790 with Ross.
We are with you today until 2 p.m. 713-212-5-790.
713-212-579.
We present to you as we do each and every day during this time.
The main headlines, the world of sports and maybe some things off the beaten path.
We present to you the news at noon.
All right, Matt, we do have to start off with the top news of the day.
It has shaken the sports world to its core.
The Dallas Mavericks are done with Luca Donchich, as he gets.
shipped off to the LALakers. Lakers sending out Anthony Davis and a first round pick.
You also had the Utah Jazz mixed up in this trade as well.
So it ends up being a three-team trade, but the bottom line is the biggest piece is Anthony Davis going to Dallas.
And then you have Luca Donchich becoming an L.A. Laker ahead of his Supermax extension.
Nico Harrison, GM of the Dallas Mavericks, says he didn't talk.
to Jason Kidd about it?
You know, we kept it between us.
We had to. We had to keep it tight.
Jay Kidd didn't know about it.
But J.Kid and I are aligned, and we talk about archetypes,
and we talk about the culture that we want to create.
So I know the type of players that he likes without actually talking to him.
Hey, would you like?
You know, so I know that.
And J.K. coached them when they won a championship.
So I think when you're aligned with your coach like that,
I know the type of players that he likes.
I didn't have to talk to him.
I didn't have. Believe him or not, Matt says.
I will say, I mean, I believe he didn't talk to him, but it's because I didn't have to talk to Jason Kidd about the players he likes because I already knew.
That's ridiculous.
No, I mean, I have a terrible analogy.
Here we go.
I know Matt loves a McRib.
I know he values a McRib.
He wants to McRib every single day, but I got him for liver and onions and said for dinner.
Well, how about you're at a restaurant and your wife goes to the McRibb?
bathroom and you order for her.
You'd probably want to check still.
You know what she likes or what she wants, but maybe she's not in the mood for that
like.
Yeah.
Maybe she already had something recently.
You would definitely check.
But Ross, you traded a filet mignon.
Now, there is some fat on that filet.
Actually, let's go with a marbled ribby as compared to a better example of that.
That's a, you've got a marbled ribby.
It's fatty.
It is.
But if you cut some other way that fat, still tastes good.
Real good.
Hmm.
You traded that fatty marbled rib eye for...
Surlyne.
It's fine.
Certainly.
It's not like it was bad like a McRib.
Hey, McRib is America's Sandwich.
No, it is not.
It is.
If it was so good in America's sandwich,
it would be on the menu the whole year.
You know what?
It's a sandwich that's a year.
Thus, it's America's.
I don't bring it up.
You just brought it up.
This show separates the Southmothers from any reasons.
Yes, McRib talk more than anyone else.
continue on.
Okay, let's continue on with, oh, by the way, Matt,
trade grades have come out on ESPN for that trade.
The Lakers got an A-minus.
Can you guess what the Mavericks got in the trade?
I'm going to go F?
F is correct.
Thank you.
Let's keep it with the NBA, because there also was,
I mean, we'd be talking about this big trade,
if it weren't for the Luca trade.
San Antonio Spurs get De Aaron Fox and Jordan McLaughlin.
Kings get Zach Levine and Citi Sisoco,
Bulls getting Zach.
Collins, Trey Jones, Kevin Heter,
at a first round pick.
Bottom line, though,
biggest impact here,
Zach Levine to the Kings,
but De Aaron Fox,
they're going with the classic wing
and big man combo.
Deeran Fox and Wemby paired up, Matt.
And don't forget Chris Paul's
got something left in the tank,
not much,
and the Kings have one really good
rookie, his name is Stefan Castle.
They didn't have to give him up in that trade,
which I thought any trade to Sacramento
was going to involve Stefan Castle.
Yeah, they didn't have to.
Nope.
I got news for you.
The Spurs got significantly better today.
And even if they don't make a deep run this year because they're so far back,
and they're not super far back, but they're back.
Deerrin Fox?
Working with Greg Popovich, if he remains the coach there,
you have to, hmm, that's maybe the discipline he was looking for.
I don't know, but that's going to be a ridiculously bad combination for Rocket fans.
have to go see that port out of the year. Dearen Fox has been an all-star this season. He's averaging
25 points per game, shooting 47% from the field, just 32% from three, but still very dynamic
getting to the basket, one of the top scores in the league, and a one-time all-star.
Okay. I mean, he wanted Ross, he wanted San Antonio, he didn't hide it, and usually when you
don't hide it, it eventually happens. All right, Matt, let's keep it going with some more news of
the day. I mean, just moving and shaking all over the place. Defensive in Miles Garrett coming off
a 14 sacks season. He is 29 years old. He signed a rookie extension in 2020. There's only a little bit
of time left on that. He has requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns. He actually released a
statement. I won't read it all, but here's part of it. While I love calling this city my home,
of course talking about Cleveland, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stage won't allow me to
be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton. It has always been to compete
for and win a Super Bowl. With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns.
And he'll get his requests acknowledged because the Browns were probably not going to be a
playoff team next year. And what can Miles Garrett bring you back in return? At least one first
round pick, yes? I say at least once. Adam Schaefter was putting it out earlier. The
The cop to this is probably the
Kaleel Mack trade. Now,
Calil Mac was 27 at the time that
he was traded from the Raiders to the Chicago
Bears. Yeah. But it
was two first round picks, a third
and a sixth, and
a second and a fifth.
Also, I want to say Kaleel was on his
rookie deal at that point, though. I'd have to go back and look.
Okay. But the contract's
a little bit of a different situation
with Miles Garrett being older.
Yeah. Still, I've got
step in right away, healthy, productive,
wakes up with double-digit sacks.
He will be a missing piece to anybody that wants to win on Super Bowl.
And imagine trying to sell Brown's tickets.
Ooh, Lordy.
Come see that quarterback with a dash name in his name in the back of his name.
Dorian Thompson, Robinson?
There you go.
All right, Matt.
Also, last night was the Grammy Awards as we go off the beaten trap.
Yes, we should.
Yes, a recap.
Beyonce with a big night.
She won the country album of the year.
Good for her.
She also won album of the year overall.
Your thoughts, Matt, on her latest album?
It's strong.
It's powerful.
But it has a little bit of delicacy and sincerity at its core in some of the second-tier songs.
And, of course, you love the cover of Blackbird.
You know I do.
By the way, great tribute to Quincy Jones last night as part of the Grammy.
Oh, there was.
I didn't check.
Did you watch some of the Grammys?
Very little bit of it.
I watched the Grammy celebration.
Hmm.
Of Quincy.
Yeah, I'm looking that up.
Oh, they had Herbie Hancock on there?
That's great.
Yep.
Stevie Wonder.
And apparently Babyface was being interviewed by the Associated Press.
Did you see this on video?
No, what happened?
Babyface is being interviewed on the red carpet stage,
right carpet.
and a reporter for the Associated Press saw a bigger celebrity behind him
and she started calling him out wanting to talk to him and basically pushing baby faces.
Oh, wow.
Yeah.
Associated Press has since apologized to Babyface.
They should have apologized to Babyface for that.
Babyface is a legend.
Yeah, he's the Kendrick Lamar of his generation.
Well, it's up for debate.
I'm glad you brought him up, though, Matt.
Five Grammy Awards won for Kendrick Lamar.
He is now up to 2.
22 in his career.
Pretty good for a 37-year-old.
Not bad for 37-year-old.
And he will get his just reward
by getting universally beloved
at the Super Bowl coming up on this Sunday.
No, I don't think he'll be universally beloved.
Not everybody loves rap music.
There'll be a majority of people that will love that.
I mean, he's not.
No, probably not.
But that's okay.
By the way, all-time Grammy Award winners
number one all-time, Beyonce with 35.
Okay.
Quincy Jones, third place with 28.
and somebody called Sir Giorg Salty is second.
How many Sir Gorg's Sionke song, so I have him?
I'm...
Well, he's a orchestra and operatic conductor.
Which means I could very easily have his songs on my phone.
As far as artists...
Well, you know who you know who Chick-Core is, right, Matt?
You know, former voice of the Los Angeles Lakers?
No.
Allison Krauss.
Okay.
Vladimir Horowitz.
Stevie Wonder has 25.
J.Z with 25.
Kanye West with 24, Matt.
Maybe the competition has been easy the last 20 years or so.
They've added a bunch of awards.
I always bring up the 22 for Kendrick Clubar.
Like a lot of those are, there's best rap song and then best rap performance.
Oh, that's the same thing.
That's a scam.
And then there's Best Music Video, of course, which Barry Manilow has never won Best Music Video.
That's like having Best Cooked Hamburger and Best Tasting Hamburger.
He also won Song of the Year and Record of the Year, Matt.
Yeah, you know what this is?
then their stats are fraudulent then no they're not if bar in the year had all those options he'd be in the 30s comfortably oh please how he those are being in the 50s he's still only won 1 billy joe be in the 60s
ellen joe be in the 80s in the 80s apparently record of the year oh real quick man record of the year honors the producers engineers the whole team song of the year's more about the song and the song writers so what is the record of the year record of the year was not like us by kendrick lamar and the song of the year was not like us by kendrick lamar and the song of the year
year was? Not like us by Kendrick Lamar.
Yeah, my point exactly.
Guys double-dipping for one prize.
That's ridiculous. That's a great song. It deserved all the awards.
Yeah. Can't wait to hear it on Super Bowl Sunday.
To universal acceptance.
We can't get enough from Kendrick Lamar. He's going to
be the quaint. He'll be better. You know what? I got a hot take for you,
Ross. No, okay. Tomorrow will be better than the game. How about that?
Ooh. No, I think it's going to be a really good game.
I do, too. Actually, I do. All right, that's the news and new. We'll start talking to the
people of Houston next. We want to hear from you,
folks, 713212-5-790.
I have a simple question for y'all.
Do you all understand how big of a deal this was in the NBA on Saturday?
I don't, maybe we're not selling it hard enough or we're overselling it,
but I think I'm, I think Rossi were properly selling how big this deal was.
I think so too.
You are moving a top five player in the prime of his career.
You're, you are, you are Kobe Beef for Sirloin.
Kobe beef's got some flab on it, but it's still delicious.
1214.
Matt Thomas Show at Ross continues.
713212-5-790, 7-1-3-212-5-790.

Remember, 40% off the cabins, 20% off the RV sites.
through this month at Two Creeks Crossing Resort.
Back to Matt Thomas and Ross Villarreal.
On Sports Talk 790.
1220, Sports Talk 790.
Matt Thomas with Ross with you on Sports Talk 790.
We are your home of the Rockets, home of the Astros,
home of good things, all things Houston sports,
including the Texans.
Their offensive coordinator list is quite lengthy.
We'll go through that coming up in a few minutes.
Remember last hour, Ross, we did the,
to tell the truth, I thought that another top 20 player will be traded.
I still believe that, but there is a story out within the last hour that the Phoenix
Sons are still taking now phone calls for Kevin Durant.
Interesting.
He would be in that top 20s, I'd be a loss on my part if I'm going on.
Yeah, I know.
We'll see what happens.
They are eighth in the west right now.
They are a game at two and a half out of the sixth spot.
Do you see Kevin Durant and Gary Payton going out?
added after over the weekend yes yes
it's Gary Payton senior by the way not Gary Payton
yes who's in the association yeah they were John
excuse me
Kevin Durant saying at my age
you heard eighth man on the bench
which is rude I'm gonna tell you this
and unfortunately I don't get to sit
court side anymore on the NBA except just in a couple of spots
there's also a there's kind of a blessing this guy
so that Ross because if I let if I got to hear all the
trash talking that I
here that at least see as guys are making baskets down the court, I wouldn't be able to call
a game.
There are some salty tongues out there in the NBA with guys just blabbering at each other back
and talking trash and well, the rockets get mixed up with it with every team as well.
So you'd be seeing a lot of it.
Yeah, it's almost like the rockets are kind of inviting it.
It's good.
And the best I love is when a guy makes a shot and then he takes off in the other direction,
he makes a shot, and he's going to just, like Dylan does that all the time.
He was doing that against Memphis.
right against the Grizzlies.
So, yeah.
Rockets, by the way, with the loss,
the last two losses have dropped
to the third spot in the west.
They are a half game behind Memphis for the two.
They have a two and a half game
over Denver for the four spot.
You stay in the top four.
That's my goal of the rest of this year.
I like you.
First round, home court advantage.
Right here on Sports Talk, 790.
Yes.
Let's go to Biscuit on 790 at 1222.
Biscuit, what's the good word?
Cougar Matt, Cougar Matt.
A first fight, if I get to my NBA take, man.
I had some buddies over there at Fatita Center of the night, man.
And, yeah, man, the Texas Tech people, I guess when they're trying to honor Cheney,
and they were being rude.
And I don't know what was up at that, man, but it was, you know,
a buddy told me that it was, it was being real obnoxious when they were trying to.
During the Cheney thing?
That's terrible.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So, you know, I don't know if they were booing or making noise or whatever, you know.
but that's part of what the issue was of the night.
And I'm with the coach.
You know, we can't expect him to win every game, Matt, you know.
But I tell you, I will say this, Matt.
We can't keep going to Robertson last minute of the game, man, if he can't hit free throws.
I think he's lost at least two to four games this year because of him missing free throws.
And I don't know what they can do about it, man.
But if your key guy can't hit free throws, I mean, I'm just going to file him.
gets open, you know, look for the layer
or whatever. Well, that's college basketball
sadly. The amount of number
of people that even are 80%
free throw shooters that crumble in the last two minutes
of games, it's, as long as
you're within 10 with three minutes left to go
in a college basketball game and you can foul like that,
you've got a chance because
there's very few clutch free throw shooters anymore
in college groups. I mean, we're talking
beyond clutch. What is he shooting?
I mean, Robert's shooting about 50%
from free thought. I mean, it's
not great. Let me say this.
though, man, and Ross, you can look it up.
This is nowhere near
the worst trade in NBA. It's not
even the worst trade that the Lakers have benefited
from. Ross, look up
what the 76th's
traded Wilk Chamber to the Lakers for.
You know what? Even better than that,
look up to see what Milwaukee
traded Jabbar to the Lakers
for. At least
Anthony Davis is an all-star.
Now, I'm not saying that I would
have made the trade or whatever, but let's
pump the brakes on worst trade in history.
Anthony Davis is at least an all-star, a defensive first team or second teamer.
He is at least than, you know, these guys, you just brought up one of them,
we got a trade with Jay's Worthy for, what do you say, Don Ford?
Come on, man.
That was, it wasn't a one-for-one trade for them.
It was a trade that was made like three years before.
It was a trade for a draft.
And you can look them up before you come on, Airbiscuit.
I'm not your look-up boy.
Yeah, we don't do look-up boys on the show.
I'm just saying to verify it.
We're verified boys.
You ain't got to take my word.
It's been some worst trades.
Biscuit, biscuit, biscuit.
It's been some worst.
Let me tell you, this is going to be an all-timer.
An all-
No, Matt, no.
Oh, please.
Unless Lucas can win five championships with the Lakers, like Corrine did,
it took Milwaukee 40 years to get back to the finals.
You just traded a guy that, by the way, him and Kyrie were the 99% of the reason
why you went to the Western Finals last year.
the NBA finals last year.
You traded a guy who is a multiple NBA first or second team player.
He's 25 years old and wakes up flabby and still scores 30 points a game with his eyes closed.
Guess what, Matt?
The bucks had already won a championship with Jabbar.
And guess how many MVP's yet won before they traded him?
Luke ain't won an MVP.
I'm just telling you.
Look up to history, man.
I'm just telling you it's a bad trade, but it's not the worst in history.
It's going to be a lost.
You could cream ask for that trade, too.
No, nobody asks for this.
No, no matter what it happens.
Get something more foreign.
That's the point, Rob.
That's not our fault.
It's as bad as it is.
I'll look up the 1975 trade.
No, I won't.
No, I don't do that.
We look at Ross, you are our verify guy, not our lookup guy.
Whatever.
All right.
Yeah, that's, this is.
And look, I'm not the biggest.
I mean, I like Luke a lot, but there are flaws.
And clearly Ross, the Mavericks, they didn't like him for some major reason.
A lot of it is probably because they're worried about conditioning and soft tissue injuries being
part of his future for a long time.
And they don't want to spend, you know, super max.
$7 million a year on a guy who's going to miss 20 games with a soft tissue issues.
Yeah, I can wrap my head around them kind of wanting to ship off Luca if the relationship had gotten that bad.
But it's to not start a bidding war, to not consult your coach, and to only talk to one team.
I can't wrap my head around that.
And you know good as well, Rossi.
He would have taken the Supermax deal.
Yes, he would have.
Because you would not be able to get that money from any other team.
And he had shown no signs of discontent in Dallas.
Now, he's probably mad they're always making fun of his weight.
But, I mean, here's the bigger question, guys.
Is he going to, is Luke are going to wake up and go, you know what,
Maybe I need to get down to that playing level of weight that I need to be at.
Maybe I need to take better care of myself.
This could be a wake-up call for him, hopefully.
Because here's the thing I brought up last hour, Ross.
If he does any of that, or he just comes back as he is in plays,
you're going to be able to shove it down the Maverick's throat multiple times per year
when you play them mono-o-mano and in the standings.
At least if you send him off east, you'd be mad and disappointed,
but you're not going to see.
you're going to see the Lakers on TV enough as it is.
They're adding games for more Luca.
Oklahoma City is like, man, hold my beard.
We're number one West.
Don't care.
Luca on Lakers, TV, ESPN, TNT, Max, Bravo, Hallmark Channel, HGTV.
There are TV networks that don't even care of the NBA Ross
that want to have Luca on their broadcast.
It's going to be insane.
So if you were tired of watching the Lakers,
and tired of launching LeBron? Too bad.
You're getting more of them.
1228. It is the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
713-212-5-790.
7-1-3-212-5-7-90.
This trade is going to haunt one of these teams.
And perhaps two.
7-13-212-5-7-90.

Matt Thomas, Ross Villariel.
It's the Matt Thomas show with Ross on Sports Talk 790.
All right, so am I to tell the truth, Ross, I have a top 20 player not being moved by Thursday's deadline.
Do you disagree with that?
Or you have no opinion at this point?
I would
If I had to lean yes
I thought the one in four were true
I think Altuva is going to play a lot of
left field as well
But it's about what you think Matt
But are we ready for that by the way
This gonna happen yeah we're ready for I'm ready for it whatever
Who cares
Maybe we should help him
The first time he drops a foul ball
Fly ball the way errors get made and left by everyone right
Everybody
But it's gonna get a little bit more magnified
When it's a little Jose LTV out there
Unfortunately
Well, here's what we're going to be looking for, in all honesty,
is the first time that somebody tries to throw on them,
going from third to home.
Especially at Meade Park,
where the porch out there is pretty short.
Yeah, so it'll be fine.
Okay.
Yeah.
If not for the Breggman trade, something else,
whether it's guys coming up in the system that are infielders again.
I mean, whatever.
I don't think Jimmy Paredes is a long-term...
I mean, Jimmy.
Isak.
Isak Paredes.
Why, who's Jimmy Paredes?
Jimmy Paredes.
used to play for the Astros in the dark days, didn't he?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Let's skip that.
Eso, and I'm going to call him Jimmy ten more time, I promise you on that.
ESAC Paredes is not long for third base for this team.
That's like when you would say, Cappinger instead of Kessinger.
Yeah, I don't worry about that anymore.
Yeah, Jimmy Paredes and Astro from 2011 to 2014.
Ooh, I've got a lot of Jimmy Paredes games then, post games at least.
OPS is an Astro?
585.
It's not good, is it?
Not great.
It's no Matt Dominguez OPS.
No.
Remember that time they offered him a contract and he said, no, I'm going to bet on myself?
He lost.
Jay, in spring at 1234 on the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Jay, good afternoon to you.
Hey, how y'all doing, fellas?
Good.
So I just got a text.
I mean, I don't know how, again, Ross, I apologize.
I didn't verify myself.
Oh, apparently.
Apparently, Kyle Reed, a request of the train.
I'm not seeing that from anywhere.
Where did you see that, Jay?
Who texted you?
My brother, he's in tune with these, I like to call them Third World Country Sports Edition things.
Oh, I know where he saw it.
He saw it on a parody account.
Probably so.
Fake news.
Tell them to block that account.
Yeah, it's easier to block it.
I've actually made fun of them over the years for these Third World Country accounts.
He'd be sending us texts about getting us out of sighty about stuff and they don't end up being true.
but if it is true
Matt and Ross
I mean I know
Kyrie
leads a bad taste
and a lot of people
of mouth over the years
but he's been
a pretty good
profession over the years
and I like to still
think he clutch
and I think he still
got a good
three, four years
of Kyrie is a minimum
so would you kick the ties
of you to Rockets
seeing how
I would say
we implode down the stretch
but we do need
that viable
of scoring threat
clutch player
and, you know, in the clutch situation.
So I just hear your thoughts on that and see what you would be willing to give up if he was available if you were interested.
Thank you, Jay, for the phone call.
Kyrie has been, he's not turned his image around because I don't think he's been, the image has been out there much since being a Maverick.
But he's been really good there.
He's been a good leader.
He plays.
He scores.
He got along with Luca, got along with G.
kid
he's he's been able to
resurrect he was not one of it was a bad
NBA career but it was just kind of a
underwhelming your really bizarre
NBA player career
yes it's a bit of a bit toxic
in NBA circles
yeah but he's been great there
great in Dallas he's not leaving
no I think he knows
that him bouncing around from team to team
to team is not in his best interest especially at this
point in his NBA career
shooting 41% from three
this year.
39 and a half percent for his
career. Just saying.
That's pretty darn elite.
You're telling me you want the Rockets to go grab a 39%
I didn't say that. I mean, well, yeah, actually,
I am telling you. I think you are saying. I am, but I don't know if that guy is
Kyrie Irving. I don't think he's 32.
A lot of money on the book. Oh, God. I'm sure he's making a ton of money.
I can go down and find that. All those guys are making up seen cash.
Actually, 41 million this year. He's got a player option for next year,
43 million.
You can't carry him with Jaylon.
No, I think the Mavs, look,
Nico Harrison, there ain't no way.
There's no way.
Oh, excuse me.
He just read a top five playing the NBA.
There's always going to be a way.
That's true.
Gosh, I would be shocked.
I'll put it that way.
Because he's selling that, oh,
Anthony Davis is the championship piece for us.
Does anybody buy that?
Now, he'll be ask you this.
And I brought this up before with Mark Medina.
Could this be a short-term,
hey this Dallas team's going to be a little peskier than we thought
now they do so you put you put Davis at the four you have Gaffert at the five
Kyrie P.J. Washington
Derek LaVle.
Oh, Clay Thompson.
Yeah, there are days hurt.
Oh.
He's out for the year or what?
I don't know.
But I know he's not available right now.
Ooh, okay.
Right ankle stress fracture will be evaluated in four weeks.
That sounds like around playoff time, basically, give or take.
I mean, I just gave you six really excellent basketball players.
Hell, PJ Washington, Gafford alone helped the Mavericks beyond the fact that Luca was great last year.
Get to the Western Finals.
Yeah, anybody thinking that they're selling pieces off,
whether they're delusion or a lot, they did this because they think for the here and now,
this gets them closer to winning the West again than further back.
Okay.
That might be delusion.
Well, in many respects, it's delusional.
It is delusional.
Because, again, Luca got you the Western Finals last year.
You don't go to the Western Finals if Luca Dodgers isn't waking up throwing 30 against an opposing team.
Maybe that last draw was when, remember he went to celebrate and they went to go grab, he was grabbing a beer and they pulled it away for him.
Said, you're not drinking that.
Yeah.
Clearly, yeah.
As we said, there is something going on.
and stuff that we probably don't even know about.
We've heard about the weight stuff.
We've heard about the referee stuff.
And euros can be...
How do I put this?
I don't know where you're going.
I'm intrigued.
A little full of themselves.
Well, like Americans can't...
I was going to say, American NBA players are full of themselves.
I do what I said.
Every NBA player can be full of themselves.
I don't care where he's from.
I just want to make sure his mom's okay.
All right.
she's doing great i'm sure i would always talk about people's parents i'm surprised you don't follow her
ig what is it i don't know lucca mom lucca oh yeah mom no it's not there's no oh yeah in there
are you sure you don't know i'm not sure i don't know what her account is
lucca oh yeah mom i don't think it's it that wouldn't be a bad name though
better than oh yeah it's compared to oh no mom mm-hmm oh my goodness
man what a trade so all we need now is bregman to get us a place to go and then we're ready to go
you know what you and i are going to spring training a couple of weeks very excited yes we are
so uh go on will bregman be signed by then i think i got feelings two weeks two weeks ago so i got
till tomorrow i mean would it be crazy if i said it's done by next by next monday it's done
no crazy to say that no don't you don't you if you're bregman wanted to i mean how much longer can
you possibly wait unless you just have the ultimate patience of
in life, like, yeah, the first two weeks of spring training is
overrated to begin with.
It feels like it's got to happen soon.
I feel like I've been saying that for two months now.
It feels like we got to, you know, him.
Scott Boris knows what he's doing, apparently.
Maybe I stopped by his office on the way over to the arena tonight,
check out and see how things are going.
You should.
Scott Boris.
I'm assuming he lives here.
Doesn't all the big power brokers live in New York?
Probably.
He's probably got a million-dollar homes in a lot of places, Matt.
That's probably true.
All right, let's talk to Vince in Midtown at 1241 on the Matt Thomas show.
Ross.
Vince, good afternoon.
Thank you for holding.
What's on your mind?
Hey, yeah, on this trade.
So I'm trying to figure out, Lakers are a big losers in this, in my opinion.
I'll tell you why.
They just traded away their best defender, their rim protector.
And they're picking up one of the worst defenders of all time in losing.
And then offensively for the Lakers, you have two ball-dominant guys who like to massage the ball.
They're both great passers, but who are they going to pass it to each other?
I mean, so it's kind of like, I just don't see how the chemistry would work.
Defensively, they're going to suffer greatly.
And I think the Mavs got stronger with this trade.
Okay, Vince, I would really, frankly see it the other direction.
I would have to say that Vince, with all due respect, you're in the minority, like the big-time minority, unless you are maybe related to Nico Harrison.
Yeah, there are going to be issues.
The questions that he raised are valid, but that doesn't mean that the tips the scales to the Dallas Mavericks winning this trade.
Correct.
And ultimately, you know what?
If there's only one basketball for Luca and LeBron, guess who's getting it?
Luca.
And it's also not even about this year.
It's about the Lakers are set up for the next decade.
plus with a franchise player.
That's to me the big, I'm not even thinking about on the,
oh, what's going to happen?
I don't think either of these teams are going to win the championship.
But you build around Luca now for the next 10 years.
Yeah.
This is huge for the Lakers long term.
Yeah.
It's, I'm a stod.
In 10 years, AD is going to be out of the league, if not faster, because of all the injuries.
Well, yeah, I mean, he's out of the league halftime anyway.
He played 76 games last year, Matt.
That is fair, but go to the previous five years before that.
It probably averaged around 50 or so.
Yeah, and one of them was this short in year because of the pandemic.
Yeah, but there's only a few.
They still played like 74, 75 games, right?
Look, when he plays Ross, he's good.
He's 20 and 10.
And a rim protector.
Former, has he won?
No, he hasn't won a defensive player of the year?
Interesting.
No, he's finished second, third, ninth, fourth.
never won a defensive player of the year, but he's been a top 10 type of guy.
Yeah.
All right.
713, 212-5-790.
7-1-3-212-5-7-90.
Let's give you the latest list of all the different Texans' O-C candidates.
One of them is not a candidate that we thought was going to be a candidate.
We'll tell you about that in a minute.
1244.
Matt Thomas-Eau-Rossum here in New York City at 7-13-212-5-790.
713-21-2-5-7-90 back to Ross in Houston.
Yeah, check your calendars.
It's February 3rd.
Did you just jump scare?
You're like, oh, my gosh, my New Year's resolutions.
I've been trying to lose weight.
I've been wanting to get more fit.
I've just wanted to get stronger, better,
and I just haven't had the motivation, haven't made it to the gym.
Maybe your testosterone levels are low.
How do you find out you get them checked with the health providers at Cinergenics,

That's s Y N-E-R-GenX-Health.com.
CentrogenicsHealth.com.
This is Ricky Williams.
I may have worn a wedding dress on a magazine cover,
but it still looks better than any outfit Matt can put together.
Let your wife dress you, man.
Texas Fy!
Texas Fy!
Back to Matt Thomas on Sports Talk 790.
66 WFAN.
It's a Matt and the Mad Dog.
Dad, what's up, dog?
Nothing.
Dog.
What's your name again?
Mike.
Oh, you're Mike.
I'm Mike.
I'm the mad dog.
Dog.
You don't watch the Seacquan Berkeley Eagle team.
Playing the Super Bowl Sunday?
I still can't believe the Giants got rid of Sequin Barkley.
The Giants.
Well, at least we got the Mets and Juan Soto is going to be eating the Yankees lunch.
Juan Soto couldn't hold Daryl's Jack.
He's overrated.
We'll be at Vinny's Pizza on 47,
doing a live show from there.
Two slice a can of Coke, $11, boom.
All he does is draw walks.
You can't walk yourself home.
Just call Anthony Towns.
Is he really that busy?
Is he really in New York, Nick?
I know his dad coaches in New Jersey,
but is he one of ours, really?
He can't hold Anthony Mason's Jack.
He thinks he's like Patrick Hewing or something.
He's only one of Patrick Ewing.
He's only one.
What a Patrick Ewing?
That's enough, Matt.
All right, you sure.
They have really fun liners, though.
We don't have, like, singing guy liners.
No, that's cost money.
Maybe we should get our audience to send some...
Why don't we get you singing some liners?
You're the five-time state choir champion or whatever.
Oh, more than that, actually.
Wow.
Sports talk, 790 on the dial.
On the eye, heart radio app.
Oh, yeah.
Perfect.
Yeah, we need that.
We did that.
Clipped immediately.
But wouldn't you like the big band?
All right, so if y'all can sing, do some, send some liners to us, well, and if they're decent, we'll play them.
I want to get you in a, we need to get you in a barbershop quartet.
I think you'd kill it.
Have four guys singing the 790?
I know.
Yeah.
Sports talk 790, 90, 90.
Oh, yeah.
All right.
That effectively killed two minutes of a radio program.
Thank you.
as we had left. We'll get you in the Barbershop Quartet Hall of Fame.
Totally my fault on that. Let's go to Corey on 7-90 and 1252.
Corey, good afternoon to you.
Hey, guys. How y'all doing today?
Good. Thank you for calling.
Awesome, man. I love the show. Glad y'all can get me on.
Yeah, I just had a quick question regarding the Astros in case Alex Brueman does decide to come back and we do obtain him again.
I know we've had talks of Altova moving to the Owlfield.
But why not Jeremy Pena?
Has anyone mentioned that for a chance?
He's very young.
He's athletic.
Really fast as well.
I think he'd be a great addition to either left field or center field.
Move Bregman back to his position at shortstop that he played at LSU, you know, in college days.
I'll hang up and listen.
Thanks, guys.
Yeah.
If Bregman is coming back, he's coming back to the third baseman.
appearing in his story.
Yeah.
He's your gold glove there.
If it ain't broke, you don't...
He's not in LSU anymore.
I've seen this a lot.
It's just not happening.
And I think...
Was it Dana Brown or somebody in the Astros even mentioned?
Like, if Bregman came back, it would be as a third basement.
Yeah.
I think the reason why
the second base shortstop big game into play,
honestly, from...
Scott Boris Ross was to try to get the people interested in them.
You could get...
Yeah, Brighman back at...
Hmm.
No, you'd put Paredes at second.
It's still not, I still don't think it's happening.
But when Polanco re-signed with Seattle, did it make you think maybe there's a little bit of a better chance?
Yes, it did.
And then the reports from Chandler-Rome and others that the Astros have turned their attention to Alex Bregman.
Hmm.
I don't know.
Ken, I think I've asked you these questions seven times in the last 10 days.
Is there a certain part of him that says,
I kind of said my farewells.
If I come back here, it's almost like it was my default,
and I couldn't find anything better.
Like somebody quits a job, and then two weeks later, like, you know what?
That was a mistake.
I'm trying to come back.
You don't want to come back with your tail between your legs?
But the difference is it's 6-156.
That's what he was making.
He made 25 last year, right?
Somewhere in that range.
Yes.
I mean, it's Rossi, it's not chop liver.
He's not coming back at 60 cents in the dollar.
Well, sometimes you go out there and you look at the market and you find out maybe it's not so great.
Analogy, I'm going to make another analogy, Matt.
You know what?
We are having an analogy off today.
Is it like a, you know, a guy gets divorced and he thinks he's just going to be around and slaying everything that moves and then he goes to the bars and then nothing?
He's like, huh.
You know, you're in your 20s and you're at the bar.
isn't doing great and now you're in your 30s and you're like you know what this isn't as easy as I thought
it was going to be maybe I should have kept my happy home maybe I got I got one on the relationship front
okay you told your girl it's time to see or seeing other people and you start going back on those
dating streets and it's not nearly as good as you thought it was going to be and now you call
her back and say hey girl I'm here for you mistakes for made yeah basically what I said
and the astros of the girl they're like yeah come on back I mean I'm not going to
to lose weight for you.
I'm going to be right at the weight I am.
I'm going to still let you have your boys out once or twice a month,
and you're going to hang out with my parents once or twice a month.
But you still get all the benefits of being with me.
Come on home.
Back to third base.
Come on back to 6-156.
He made $30 million, by the way, last year.
Okay, so he would drop to $26.
$30.5 million is the last two years.
so they're not prepared to get
they're not so do you think it's
you think he wants $31 million of your time
six would be what one
six
one 86
I think he would sign for that
I just don't think anybody's offering that
no no clearly at this point
it's no one's offering that
all right we have one hour left to go
Ross how are you feeling you're surviving on this
okay I just I just had this bad call for like a week plus
it's ridiculous
some maybe some medicinal tea could help
you. I'm taking, I'm drinking tea. I'm doing, I'm on like five different medications.
Nothing's working. Okay. Y'all, wouldn't you get a go from my, fund you account?
No, I'm fine. I mean, co-pay's not great on my insurance, but that's fine.
By the way, nice work by the insurance plans. The first six months, we're going to screw you until
you're basically broke, and then we'll pay for stuff towards the end.
I got no further comment. That's my health. American health system's great. It's perfect. No
comment. Yeah, we love it. We love it.
I love it.
You can do nothing wrong.
All right.
If you miss our conversation with Mark Medina, he is the NBA beatwriter.
You hear him on Fox Sports Radio here in the weekends on 790.
It's all things about the Lakers, all things about the NBA.
We'll talk with him.
We had a conversation with him earlier today.
It was a good one, and we'll replace him for you next.
1258.
It is Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
Sports Talk 790.
Lunch timers.
This is the Matt Thomas show.
103 on Sports Talk 790.
Ross, really quick before we get to this conversation we had with Mark Medina earlier,
I don't think I've ever said I'm jealous for Dallas radio host,
but I'm jealous for Dallas radio host.
You get the Luca trade and Brian Schottenheimer as the Cowboys coach in one calendar week.
You're doing pretty good for yourself.
Yeah, it's a little bit easier.
But we've had our good times here, Matt.
We had David Cully.
We had the Astros.
We had Lovie Smith.
Super Bowl, I mean, World Series Championships?
Yeah.
Trade James Hardin Talk for like five years.
Is Matt Schaub and elite quarterback?
We had that for a long time.
Those were good times.
Vince Young versus Reggie Bush, and then they went and got Mario Williams.
Mario Williams?
That was before my time, but yeah, I'd love to have that.
What else is there?
We've had that were a good old staples, at least from a Houston sports scene.
Matt Chobbilly quarterback, three first player pick,
Dwight Howard Update kind of started at all.
We were on the edge of our seats on that one.
That was true.
Kind of got the whole update thing started.
All right.
Mark Medina covers the Lakers on the West Coast.
He's also an IHeart's NBA analyst.
You can hear on weekends here on these airwaves,
and Mark and I had a chance to visit earlier today.
He covers the Lakers, covers the NBA,
and I asked him about how everybody
meaning L.A., in particular
Dallas, and Utah, for that matter,
kept things secret. So when we
all found out together,
we all did together, and we were all
massively shocked.
Yeah, it seems like that was part of the calculus.
I thought it was notable that
Nico Harrison and his press conference the other day
was crying Rob Polinka
for keeping this secret. They had
some informal conversations
a few weeks ago, and it was very comforting
to him that word didn't get out.
So yes, when you
look at certain deals
like this or
several years ago when the Lakers got
Powell-Gissau in 2008
no one knew about this
I think at the same
time though we're in a different era
where things get out quickly
there's a lot more people on staff
or social media
that any expectation that nothing is out in the
open is fairly unrealistic
but I think given the context of
they're talking about a generational
star if it's out who knows how
it affects the locker room and how Luca feels.
And if a deal doesn't work out, you know, is it almost like the toothpaste is out of the tube?
But again, I go back to what the Dallas Mavericks got in return.
Anthony Davis is a great player.
He's a defensive player of the year candidate.
They are a playoff team.
But you could have gotten even more out of this.
So I'm just really surprised that this is what they wound up green upon.
I don't know.
did you watch the press conference yesterday with Harrison and with Jason Kidd?
I felt, first of a disappointed with Jason Kidd because I think he was a deer in headlines on this.
And in Harrison's case, I just felt like he needed to backtrack in almost every single statement he said
because people are probably in that room going, this sounds good, but you're full of crap.
I thought it was notable when Nico said right next to Jason, hey, he didn't know about it, but he's on board.
and what Jason's supposed to say.
I mean, he said he's on board, too.
No one knew about this.
It's just one of those things that, again, unless Luca gave directives, I won out.
You may as well get something of value out of me.
I don't get this trade at all.
I mean, the Dallas Mavericks made the NBA finals last season.
And in fairness, I did talk to some executives before the season started for, you know, season preview type work.
And some of them remarked to me that they felt like Dallas was a one-hit wonder as far as getting back to the finals.
But didn't really have anything to do with Luca and any shortcomings he has.
It was just more of the roster that there was a lot of credit being given that Kyrie Irving shown that he can co-exist with Luca.
He's a better leader.
They did get some roster depth.
You know, they drafted Derek lively the second.
They're PJ Washington great win player that just got Clay Thompson.
but is it quite enough to compete in this very competitive Western Conference landscape?
And when you're looking at this trade here, again, Anthony Davis is a great player.
He's going to coexist well with Kyrie Irving, but I don't think it really does anything as far as changing their playoff fortunes.
It doesn't worsen it significantly in the short term.
There's still a team that will be a tough playoff out, but I don't think that this catapults them in the Western Conference landscape.
David, I think the bigger thing is long-term.
There's a lot of questions.
All their core players, Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Clay Thompson,
they're getting older and age here.
And where you contrast that with the Lakers,
I think there's short-term questions about,
even though Luca Dodgich is a generational talent,
how's the fit going to be with LeBron, James, and Luca,
even though there's a lot of respect for each other,
just half a season's worth of games,
is that enough to really get the chemistry going?
What are they going to do with the center position?
and what are they going to do with their defense?
I don't have any good defenders.
But in the long term, the Lakers set themselves up to have that next-generational superstar
for whatever LeBron James decides to retire.
And that's obviously going to be soon because he's 40 years old.
He still has a player option next year.
But he's obviously said he's toward the end of his career than the beginning of it.
So, yeah, there's a lot to unpack and the contrast between what this means for the Lakers
and the Mavericks couldn't be any clear.
Mark Medina's with it's Mark G underscore Medina M-E-D-I-N-A.
Whether's here from Athlon Sports, CBS-L-A spectrum, and of course you're hearing weekends on Fox Sports Radio right here on sports talks of any.
Are you really buying that LeBron didn't know anything about this before it went down?
I do. I do buy it, actually.
Look, I'm not going to be naive to say that LeBron James doesn't have influence on the Lakers.
They obviously drafted Brawny James.
They know how LeBron feels about things.
the context that we have to be aware of
is that the Lakers
dynamical LeBron James
changed after the Russell
Westbrook trade. Now, there's a lot of different
versions depending on when you listen to the
Lakers side of things or
LeBron's side of things as far as to
what extent. His
voice actually carried weight with this
Russell Westbrook trade. You know, the Lakers
would say, you know,
LeBron really pushed for it at the 11th
hour, even though they're about to get buddy healed.
LeBron's people will say, yeah,
He was in support of Russ, but it was in the larger context of the Lakers asking him, as well as other deals.
So with that context being said since then, because that deal hasn't worked out, there's been a healthy distance where the Lakers really haven't factored in his input when it's specifically with trade deadline moves and free agency moves.
And LeBron has been detached from that process because I think from his own self-interest,
he doesn't want to get signed blame if a deal goes bad and then says, yeah, well, this is what LeBron
wanted.
So I think we have to keep in mind that outside of them drafting Brony James, and I know that that
has sparked a lot of reaction anyway, the Lakers haven't done anything that has reflected what
LeBron's wanted from personnel standpoint.
I think with Brunney specifically, that calculus is a little bit different where from the
Lakers then, they didn't feel like they really gave up a lot because it's a second round pick.
You know, most second round picks don't really pan out well that much.
He hasn't really played much in the actual NBA.
It's mostly been G-League games.
So, yeah, I do believe to your original question that he didn't know about it.
Yeah, I just feel like he knows everything.
And so that doesn't really make a difference at the point.
The deal was still made.
But I think I'm just naturally hesitant to believe that Rich Paul and LeBron did not
have some sort of intel beforehand.
Let me get to the Dallas side before we wrap things up with you.
Tell me exactly what we know about Mark Cuban's current role with the team.
I know we sold the majority interests of the franchise.
I know that their new ownership in the Dallas organization has casino ties.
They have never hidden the fact they want to get casino gambling in Texas to build,
I think perhaps a future palis involving the Mavericks and a gambling casino, mono, mono.
if there's conspiracy theories out there in Twitter, which I don't believe in, but you know what, for the sake of this crazy story,
is the Dallas Mavericks long-term future in jeopardy if casino gambling does not come to Texas?
That is a very fluid thing.
It's very hard to really answer that question because there's so many moving parts as it pertains to any moves, you know, relocation or just how.
having new business ventures.
But I think to the original point that you're making about Mark Cuban,
I think that this illustrates very clearly he doesn't run things at all
and pertaining to the basketball side.
Now, he might still have some role on the business side,
but if it were up to Mark Cuban, they wouldn't be trading Luca Dantra.
I mean, he's already been on record in a very strong statement saying
if he had to choose between, you know, staying with his wife or trading Lucas.
he would get his divorce papers ready.
A little strong, but that's what Mark Cuban is known to say.
I think the bottom line is whether it was Luca or Dirk or any kind of generational talent.
Mark Cuban was very, you know, a strong believer that you hold on to those legendary players
and don't make any exceptions whatsoever.
All right, that again needs Mark Medina out from Los Angeles, Fox Sports Radio, NBA analysts.
He also works on Sportsnet Central LA.
Ross, I did check Mark Cuban's Twitter account.
He has not tweeted or responded anything in two days.
Interesting.
Is Silence Golden or is he just really busy and doesn't have time to run to his social platforms?
He probably doesn't know what to say.
He's not the majority owner anymore, correct?
Correct.
Yeah, there's a woman that is running a casino that the plans are for her when she bought the team
was to ultimately
gel her NBA franchise
with a large casino in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area.
Interesting.
I mean, part of it,
I don't know a whole lot behind the story,
but a lot of it is that she's a casino operator
and that she must know something that maybe Texas is closer
than we think it is to getting casino gambling.
Well, if she's bought off enough politicians.
That's how it works in this country.
Did you say that loud sports, RV?
Am I wrong?
Well, maybe she is.
I don't know.
But part of the conspiracy theory,
and again, it's just a conspiracy,
is that maybe the Mavericks are tanking that it would be better served
if they were to go somewhere else.
I don't know what their least situation is at American Airlines Center.
I can't imagine the Mavericks leaving Dallas under any reason.
That's too big of a medium market.
Too good.
Just too much.
Too much money there, too much.
And if you're going to put Vegas game of a franchise,
you're going to give them expansion team, let them start from scratch.
The Las Vegas 21s.
Never, ever, ever going to happen.
It hurts my feelings.
I'm sorry, Matt.
Well, you know, the reason why I thought they wouldn't be called the 21s
because you wouldn't want to have the number issue,
but the 76ers don't write the word 76ers on their jersey.
They write Sixers.
That's true.
And the Denver Nuggets have a uniform that has 5280 across their chest.
Yes.
So maybe the number bit is a little.
It is ridiculous.
All right, there you have it.
Thank you, Matt.
All right, so if you want to comment anything that Mark Medina had to say,
you are more than welcome to do so.
713-212-5-7-9.
I still owe you the latest list of candidates for the Texans' offensive coordinator position.
And why did not Chip Kelly even kick the tires on Houston?
Just for us to have a little conjecture on next.
116.
It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.

Matt Thomas, Ross Villarreal.
It's the Matt Thomas show
with Ross on Sports Talk 790.
We've got a big feature, Ross, in the show
which will debut tomorrow will be for this week only.
And it's
guest you won't hear
from Radio Row on the Matt Thomas
Joe Ross.
Oh, my gosh.
You're not excited?
I can't wait.
Okay.
This list is unbelievable.
I think I'll believe it.
Of the guess you won't hear on the Matt Thomas Show of Ross.
Gerard Johnson.
Jeff Nixon.
Nixon is the Syracuse offensive coordinator and running backs coach.
Girard is obviously the Texans QB coach.
Thad Lewis, Buccaneers quarterback coach.
Nick Cayley, Rams, tight-in, and passing game coordinator.
Bill Laser.
Laser.
Laser, senior offensive assistant.
He's not getting it.
No chance.
Guy's like 80.
Grant Udinski, Vikings Assistant Offensive Coordinator and Quarterback Coach.
Hmm.
Hmm.
Brian Johnson.
Buccaneers assist, excuse me, Commander's Assistant.
assistant head coach.
He was the O.C. for the Eagles in 2023.
And the latest is Adam
Stenevich,
Packer's offensive coordinator.
He's their offensive coordinator?
That's what it says on this.
They got rid of him?
Huh?
Okay.
I mean, he doesn't call, I guess,
Matt LaFleckles plays there.
Yeah, I mean, it's, you know, like if,
there must be an assistant head coach
title above the guy above him.
Mm-hmm.
Or he just doesn't call plays.
I mean, it's what it is.
It's like how, uh, how Matt
Burke is a defensive coordinator, but nobody believes him.
Yeah. I mean, I'll say this. It's a good list.
I don't think anyone's going, my God, what are these guys doing here?
They're wasting the Texans' time.
The list did not involve Chip Kelly, who, you know, college is fun and everything.
But this NIL thing and having to go on the road and recruit of these 19-year-old kids,
I'm 60-something years old. I'm old and cranky.
Just give me some players to let me coach.
Well, in this...
Pay me an ungodly amounts of money to be the offensive coordinator.
Yeah, ungodly amounts.
Did you see how much he's getting, according to Chris Gordy?
Is Smith-Morkeying the story?
No, I guess he got it from somewhere else, but he's the only place I saw it.
Tell him.
$6 million a year for Chip Kelly.
The highest paid OC, I think it was Todd Munkin with the Ravens making $3 million.
I wonder he left.
But you don't know.
If you live in Vegas, it costs the living, right?
More expensive?
I don't think the cost of living is low as long as you stay out of the casinos.
Yeah, maybe he can't do that.
Yeah, Albert Brewer is saying $6 million a year.
That is insane.
That is absolutely insane.
Double the next highest paid coordinator on the whole league.
And oh, by the way, every other coordinator in the NFL is like, you get it, Chip.
Thanks for setting the bar for us.
That's crazy.
The issue is, I'm trying to look at what Domeko Ryan's makes.
It says he was signed in the head coach in 2023, six-year deal worth $28 million.
So no wonder, Chip Kelly wasn't in the mix.
You were not going to pay your OC more than your head coach.
God, Ross, $6 million for one half of the ball, and all you got to do is make sure that half is good.
If your team loses 37 to 34, you don't care.
You put up 34.
as you mentioned, this is great for Chip Kelly.
Fewer headaches and more money.
Yeah. And no worrying about
NIL recruiting. Good for him.
It's like, you know, when coaches would leave
the professional ranks to go to the college ranks
because they're like, I don't want to mess with the money
and the free agency and people getting mad
or free agency.
Ross, college doesn't offer that like you used to.
Remember you used to? You just have to just have to make the kids,
make sure they go to school.
Yeah. You're able to re-recruit them every year.
year and find new, find new cash for him.
Yeah, you're dealing with free agents and they're, I mean, more emotionally volatile as, you know,
naturally 20-year-old, more than a 30-year-old grown man who has all their finances said.
It's going to be different.
So let me ask you this.
What is the number one advantage for being a college coach over at NFL?
I'll give you two.
One.
Oh, okay.
Lesser games, comparable money.
I guess, but it's...
So your stress level is not nearly the...
much because you're not having to worry about extra games.
I think it was 15, was it 15 games? Coach Sark had to coach this year.
Yeah, but only one person is doing, or two people are doing it, three.
Okay, so that's not much of an argument.
But the number two is you still get to run it more than other.
I don't know, do you get to run?
But before talking about coaches who are going to have their pick of NFL or college,
it's going to be those coaches playing 13, 14, 15 games a year.
Yeah.
Nobody's looking for the guy that's not making his conference chance.
chip game and not even putting
on the NFL
spheres.
So what is the biggest advantage of being a
college coach over pro coach?
You still get to be this
GMO? Does I mean this chief operating officer
more so do you want NFL?
If you're into that,
I guess you are you
are you more celebrated?
Let's go to college.
You have to win. You have to graduate your kids.
You got to make sure they don't get into drugs
and alcohol and guns.
speeding and any number of things.
It's being.
Where the NFL handles that
for you if you're an NFL coach.
You don't do this one on that.
No.
Just pass them off the NFL.
You have NIL to worry about.
You have the transfer portal to get to.
I mean, tell me the significant advantages of being a college coach.
I don't see them.
Not like they used to be.
I mean, maybe you're more of the,
is Nick Sabin more celebrated in the state of Alabama?
He's like a god there.
You become more of a god and more of a mythic figure or a legendary.
But that's about it.
But your leash is a lot shorter in college than it used to be.
You're making $6, $7 million years a head coach.
If you don't win games in two years, you're done.
Ryan Day, if there wasn't an expanded playoff this year, he might have been fired.
Yeah, that's crazy.
It's absolutely crazy.
For losing two games.
So, you know, mama's out there.
Teach your kids to be NFL coaches because the college game ain't as cool as it used to be.
It just not.
Still cool.
Yes, Ohio State played 16 games.
That's an NFL slate.
But it's funny that Ryan Day didn't show any stress at all
because his beard was still...
Jet Black. Jet Black. Good for him.
713-212-5-790.
If you want to come in and say hello to us, we'd love to have you on this Monday.
7-13-212-5-7-90.
When this program returns, Ross,
guest you will not hear on the Matt Thomas show this week
with Ross. Now, if there's any of them that I bring up to you that we should, you think we should
book, you can like hit the buzzer and state your case why this person should be on.
Just throwing it out there. 713-212-5-790. You won't need to hit a buzzer to reach Scott
Calhanna and Associates. You'll just need a phone or a computer to get to their website.

Lunch-timers.
It's the Matt Thomas show with Ross on Sports Talk 790.
I think I made Bill Laser
a little older than he was.
And that guy said he was in his 80s.
Ross, he's 52.
Thanks to David for...
Well, I knew he wasn't in his 80s.
I figured you were...
I think the guys got my drift on this.
All right.
But you know what?
People want to fact check
and David's got their fact checking me.
I'm good with that?
Well, I knew you were joking, Matt.
Okay.
I just wanted...
Just in case those of you didn't think I was joking.
Yeah, it's sarcasm is lost
in a lot of people.
It's okay.
It's okay.
Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you
something we'll do on our daily bank
us all this week.
You know, we need a big voice guy to say,
matter of fact, Ross, why don't you handle that part of the production of this?
Guest you will not hear on the Matt Thomas show with Ross this week.
Give it a try.
Guess you will not hear on the Matt Thomas show this week.
It's not bad.
Did you record that for Connor?
No.
Okay.
Let's let the music here.
These are people that have been offered to us from Radio Row.
This is like an in-memorium?
Well, I talk about fun.
This is a lullaby.
Yeah, a lullaby, a little soothing stuff here.
Okay.
Make you sleepy.
Yeah, this is exactly what we want to do to the people listening to the show.
We were offered Lonnie Paxton, Ross.
Lonnie Paxton, who is that?
What do you mean?
Who is that?
You know who Lonnie Paxon is?
I do not.
He is a former Patriots Long Snapper who was a part of three Super Bowl champion teams with Tom Brady in 0204 and 05.
Wow.
What's he going to talk about?
Well, we're not giving a sponsor plug.
I can tell you that.
Okay.
Guest, we will not hear on the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Guest we will not here on the Matt Tommy show with Ross.
All right.
Next up, NFL veteran Chris Hetherington.
Hetherington.
Chris Hetherington?
Yes.
Okay.
I don't know what he did.
In fact, on this email we were sent,
we don't know what teams he played for.
I got it for you.
Colts, Panthers, Rams,
Raiders, and 49ers.
Graduate of Yale.
Smart guy.
Went undrafted in 1996.
Hmm.
What was his last year?
Of what?
Oh, the NFL? 06.
The end of his life.
No, he's still moving.
I was going to say.
Last year,
if his, uh,
dentist school?
I don't know.
All right.
So Chris.
There's a fullback.
Damn.
Next on guess you will not hear.
We were offered
Adrian Smith.
Adrian is a
five-time member of the U.S. women's
national flag football team.
Oh, as a woman.
Yeah.
She is a two-time.
gold medalist and tackle football?
Gold medalist?
Go ahead, gold. It's not the Olympic Games?
I'm reading the release, Ross.
The release, don't lie.
And she's a two-time
I'm into the gold medalist and tackle football.
She's a six-time national champion
with the Boston Renegades.
Six-time national champion?
Yes.
Wow. That would be a great conversation.
Well, guess what?
What is it not doing, Ross?
It's a guess that will not be
on the Matt Thomas.
show. There you go.
Doug,
excuse me, Dave
De Roche, Des Roche,
Rozier, D-E-S,
R-O-C-H-E-R-S.
Dave D-R-S-E-R-S.
And DeRose-E. DeRose.
DeRose, I would get him on Louisiana Radio.
Nafia. K-H-H-H, hey, let's get him on the show.
He's a former offensive line for the Seattle Seahawks.
Oh, wow, good for him.
Dave is available to talk about, quote, NFL player safety.
Next, breaking down keys of the big game with two of the best O-lines meeting in New Orleans.
Having a former O-line break down the keys of the game ought to be a real blast.
And number three, the importance of giving back the many ways that Dave is involved in the community.
Wow, great for Dave.
Sounds like it would be a great interview.
Dave D. Roche.
David D. Roche now.
Yeah.
All right.
Let's see what else is not available to us.
Another guest, I mean, seriously, why are we not in New Orleans for these people?
And these all sound like great interviews to me.
Doc Blevins.
Doc, now you're making names up.
Doc Blevins.
Doc Blevins.
Had the fastest six shooter in Dodge, Kansas.
Real name is Anthony.
They call him Doc.
says former NFL coach and current analyst, Doc Blevins, available.
What did Doc do?
I don't really know.
I'm looking through the 7,000 emails that were sent to this one account.
But Doc Blevins, unavailable to us today.
I'm trying to think what Doc he did here.
Let's see.
Oh, here we go.
He was a coach for the Cardinals in 2013 to 2017.
He coached special teams.
He was a giant special teams coach from 2018 to 2022.
He also worked with defensive backs and linebackers.
Oh, wow.
What's you doing these days?
I can't tell you because that would be part of the sponsor plug.
Oh, okay.
Looks like he's a defensive assistant with the Birmingham Ham Stallions this past year.
Oh, nice.
UFL champion.
Congratulations.
Let's go, Doc.
Next.
Spice Adams.
All right, now you're really making names.
He's a former NFL player.
with both the four-niners and the Bears.
He's a television host.
He's a comedian.
Wow.
And an all-around fan favorite.
He'll be available on Radio Row this week to talk about all things football.
Game Day snacking.
And top draft tips for the big game.
Oh, wow.
Spice Adams is the ultimate triple threat, Ross.
Explain. He can see.
He's a skater?
He's a former NFL defensive tackle turned command.
Comedic superstar.
Comedic superstar.
Wow.
Television host and social media sensation.
That's a quadruple threat.
They said triple threat named four things.
He also apparently has infectious humor.
Engaging personality.
I want to get Spice Adams on.
And deep knowledge of the game.
Apparently he was on ballers.
He's one of the hosts of the great American baking show and the great British bakeoff.
Thus the reason why he's called Spice.
Hmm. This guy sounds way more interesting to listen to you.
I was going to say, wait a minute.
Why isn't Spice hosting a show this week, and I can take a week off?
He should, actually.
We couldn't afford them.
All right.
I'm trying to think if I can find one more.
You do want to hear from Spice Adams this week.
All right.
Boy, there's all these nice, these are really nice, wonderful charity things that we're just not going to care about.
Um, man, charity, charity.
Sports handicapped.
If we want a handicap around Ross, we could have 20 hours of handicapping talk.
That's great.
Oh, and stats and insights department from Pro Football Network could be on?
Oh, man, we're missing that.
Damn.
Spice Adams.
All right.
I think that's it for this week, today's guest we're not going to have on the show.
Thank you, Matt.
Meanwhile, if you listen to Kay Todder Sports Radio,
they had Emmett Smith on today.
They had Joe Montana on today.
And they had Cal Ripkin Jr. on today from New Orleans.
And that is today's edition of,
guess you will not hear on the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
This week will only get better with people we don't have out.
Now, we are going to maybe have a current member of the Eagles team with us
in the next 24 to 40 hours.
I cannot jinx that.
Don't jinx it.
But I've been working hard like a mutter on this.
I'm going to guess you haven't lifted a finger.
I did.
I did a lot of due diligence on Saturday to try to make this happen.
Okay.
I mean, how many other shows in Houston are going to get you an active member of the Philadelphia of Eagles or Kansas Chiefs on their show?
Zero.
I don't know that.
I don't listen to the other shows.
Except for here at Sports Talk 790.
What's a great lineup that we have?
You listen to 18?
All the time.
What's your favorite part of their show?
the bit stealing segment
which is when
uh
430
Wednesday's at 430
I knew that
so we will once again
tomorrow at this time
more guests you'll not hear from the Super Bowl
Gordy by the way gets the assistant that because he's the one that sent
me all these emails of these players
yeah I knew it was him
so I can't take credit it's all a Chris Gordy production
Gordon's going to be with you Wednesday from New Orleans.
He's actually going to get some good people on.
I don't want to jinx that either.
The guests he'll have on will be better than you and Cordy combined.
We'll see.
Now, it'll be up to you as a good journalist to get the best out of these people.
Yeah, again, we'll see.
Believe it or not, today is Anthony Davis and Lugudanches.
Is that correct?
That is correct.
All right.
That's up next.
Here it is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.

Yo, what's up? This you boy, bumbeat, the Trillo, OG with the whitest man in America.
Matt Thomas.
You are now tuned in in Sports Talk 790, man.
And your March, sit, ready to go.
Ross, imagine if you're the Dallas Mavericks.
You had Luca for all those years.
You could have had Jalen Brunson with him.
Instead, you decided not to pay him, and he said, I'm out of here going to New York where he became an All-Star.
Hmm.
Most reaction from Dallas fans today were, yeah, what position of the Cowboys drafting in the first round?
Yeah, certainly.
I mean, there's at least second place in that town.
It's not like they're the Rangers.
Hmm.
But it's like, I've not listened to Dallas Sports Radio for a long time because I don't like listen to other city sports.
I don't relate to them.
There's one of the teams I care about, but my guess is that in a four-hour day, they're probably talking 80% Cowboys, right?
I mean, Brian Schontheimer's their coach.
Maybe you move on from that, though?
To what?
Oh, let's see, Anthony Davis.
Impact for the...
The draft?
Spring training with the Rangers.
Nah.
The fact that all their games are going to be over the internet
and about 15 games are going to be on TV, that's it.
Cowboys pick 12th.
Oh, that's a good meaty spot for sports radio.
Oh, the 12th spot?
Yeah.
I don't know how the Stars.
I'm going to look at the Stars record right now.
They're one of the best teams in the NFL?
Oh, here we got our hockey correspondent.
Oh, look you there.
Good for Hank.
Good for Connor.
All right, Rockets and Knicks tonight, and then tomorrow, Rockets and Nets, Wednesday.
You're all right back there?
That was Adam Clinton.
Oh, was it?
Sorry.
Look at the sound effects being added in the show.
Bless me.
Bless you.
Are you still sick, or do you get sick off of Ross?
No, that was, this studio hasn't been dusted since we moved in.
Hey, do you ever think about all of the things we breathed in at the other?
other buildings since they didn't never dust that studio either.
Yeah, I've got a civil action going in with them right now.
Nice.
You got the mesothelioma?
Let me get in on that.
I can't spell mesothelioma.
Go quickly.
M-E-S-O-Ding.
I'm just kidding.
I wanted to mess with you.
Five minutes left to go on the show.
What should we do?
Let's play America's Fast as Growing Sports Radio Game.
Shall we simply call it believe it or not?
And here's how it works.
You'll call 713-212-5-790.
7-1-3-21-2-5-7-90.
Today's edition of Believe it or not, it's about either Luca Donchich or Anthony Davis.
A reason statement about one of those two gentlemen.
