What's happening? Good morning.
And welcome.
Welcome to a Friday edition of the Matt Topman Show and Ross.
This is Sports Talk 790.
Wow.
Anything goes Friday on the show.
Because the Texans let us down, that's the reason why it's anything goes Friday.
They didn't let us down.
Oh, absolutely.
Good value.
Oh, no.
Nikki C., the draft warrior.
He's wheeling.
All he's got to know is, just he can't sit still.
No.
Yeah, your gut feeling that he would pick at 25.
L.
Your gut feeling isn't going to go up.
No, I said up or down.
down. I said not in 25.
I don't know about that.
We got to check the tape. We'll check the tape, pal. I got it written down right here, but my
Wi-Fi doesn't work. We got to have Wi-Fi by now.
Mine doesn't work. I don't know. I just restarted my computer and I got no Wi-Fi.
Oh, I have no Internet. Wow. What are we doing?
We're going on two days of no internet. I'm going to check. I'm going to do the
guest at the camera. I thought we had it fixed.
Oh, I thought so, too.
We have to get that wired connection going, Maddie.
We really don't have internet.
Just, okay, that's fine.
The show must go on.
Yeah, we can raw dog it. It's fine.
Not raw dog.
No internet on the show. Let's go.
I don't think you can say raw dog in 2025.
I think everyone says that for everything.
Haven't you heard people talk about raw dog in a flight?
I think it's an age thing, man.
I think, yeah, yeah.
People talk about raw dog in the flight.
Have you ever heard that?
I have not.
Tell me.
No phone, no iPad, no music, no book.
Really?
Six hour flight.
They call it raw dog in the flight.
I will be, what is the opposite of a raw dog?
I'll be, huh.
prophylacted. I'll be heavy-dogging it on the flight to San Francisco.
Heavy-dog it. Okay.
Cooked? Oh, you're cooked.
No, I'll heavy-dog it.
I would like to see you get off on a flight and be off your phone for three hours.
No, the phone isn't the issue. I put the headphones on.
The music goes on my phone, and I will tilt the chair back and I will go to sleep.
Carpenter's greatest hits.
I mean, there could be a couple of those on there.
That's fine.
I mean, look, I don't want a hard rocket. I'm trying to sleep.
Yeah.
We're going to San Francisco today. It's a three-and-hour flight.
I don't need ACDC in the background.
A little BG's greatest hits.
Oh, for sure.
How deep is your love?
Absolutely.
Gets the people going.
Matter of fact, I'll let you all create,
if you want me to create my music list,
I'll tell you what I'll play today as a matter of fact.
Okay.
I want how deep is your love on there?
Done.
Superstar, Carpenters.
Yes.
There's some Michael McDonald on there for sure.
How about,
what is that,
What is that soft earthwind and fire one?
Reasons?
Not on there.
You don't like reasons?
No.
Now, I can give you, how about give you some simply red?
Would you like some simply red?
No.
Holding back the years?
Reeling in the years?
Steely Dan?
No, I would go Hey 19 if I was going to go with Steely Dan.
Hey, 19.
I like it.
Peg's a good one too.
Peg is a jam.
Yeah.
Steely Dan, underrated.
What's up?
Fighting.
No.
It's kind of a running joke on the plane.
Rick, you don't lose that number?
I will eat something before the first.
flight leaves and I will tilt the chair back
and I'm usually with asleep within 30 minutes. That's good.
Yeah.
I thought you used to be not able to sleep on planes without somebody else.
Cents of Rockets. No, since the rockets have been able to sleep.
That's good. You're flying nice.
That's kind of a skill, honestly.
It is.
It is a skill.
Now, commercial, not so much.
I go right to bed.
On the Charter Life, I can go night and night pretty quick.
Put on a little chopon and that puts me to sleep.
Okay, yeah. So there'll be no hard rock and roll in the flight.
Okay.
I mean, I might get a little Huey Lewis and news going if I have to.
Huh.
I don't think that's necessarily technically rock and roll.
Oh, what is it?
A new wave?
No, no.
Hughie Lewis?
No, come on.
All right.
So do our phones work or no?
Do we even know what's going on here?
No, I heard people call the show.
So far the phones were, I guess.
Okay, well, at least the phones are working.
But we have no internet.
Uh-huh.
So it's worth broad dog in the show.
So it's basically 1990.
Yeah.
Yeah, I'll get my newspaper out in a second here.
I'll go, you know, I'm going to go check the sports sticker.
Where's going to read box scores from yesterday?
What I first did, this is, I don't mean to embarrass myself, but I'm going to do anyway, because that's what the show is all about.
In 1991, I did a Sunday night show on KSEV filled in from 10 to midnight.
It was the first time I'd ever done a show in my life.
Do you have any tapes of this?
You know what?
I might.
I was so nervous.
Now granted, this was Sunday night at 10 o'clock at night.
I mean, no one's listening.
But it was my first on-air experience doing a talk show that I went to the sports ticket.
was this daisy, what are they, Daisy wheel,
machine that would just roll out the,
the kind of printer is that.
The dot, the dot matrix?
And it would just pour, it would run through all the games and recaps.
And I would just take every recap and I'd highlight the most important part.
And I just read two hours of, well, the Bengals today lost to the Colts and ran through that.
I mean, it was just, I was like, what am I doing?
It's thrilling stuff.
It wasn't thrilling.
I was horrendous.
Oh.
Thank God I've improved in the last 30.
slightly. I mean, a little bit. I mean, I wouldn't consider myself a maestro at the mic, but you know, we're trying.
You're doing great, Matt. We're trying. You're the voice of Houston sports and you're on a fast track to the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.
I might get there. You've got my vote. I was a finalist for the Houston Media Alliance Award winning. It didn't win, but that's fine. Who won? Michael Barry?
No, he didn't win either. Oh, wow.
We didn't, the only person that won in our building, I think, was Gordy. No, Gordy won, and we had some salespeople win.
Okay, but I may have people that we've read for people.
Yeah, Leslie. We love Leslie. She does a great job. One of our sales reps.
Yeah, so I was a finalist, but did not win. I'm sorry. But congratulations to Gordy for winning a program director of the year.
Yeah. Yeah. He's got my vote.
Well, it's because you probably helped him win the vote. I mean, I voted for him.
Oh, I forgot. Oh, I forgot. He's still won.
Yeah, he still won. Yeah, you're out of town. He needed my vote anyway. All right. It is an anything goes Friday here on the radio program.
713-212-5-790 is how you reach a show if you're a show if you're
want to get in today. That's 713.
212.570. So how did
you consume the draft last night?
First of all, you have two. You had two. Yeah, actually multiple
options. I went with the ABC
option. Nick Saban,
Desmond Howard, Kirk Herbstrein,
and Reese Davis. Significantly better.
Mike Goldberg drives me
absolutely bonkers.
Greenberg. Whatever. Greenberg, Goldberg.
He is so smug on the
air. He was on the ESPN one?
the ESPN.
So I only had access to the ABC one because my cable box is down.
I'm sorry to hear that.
Yeah, they didn't call.
We got something to say for McSfinity next week.
Oh, really?
Oh, yeah.
Hmm.
It was jerks.
Okay.
On a hold for over two hours.
So Sabin to me was very intriguing.
Obviously, much of the conversation was about Shador Sanders not being drafted in the first round.
Called it.
He did.
That was his gut feeling.
Did you, when did you do that?
It was before you got, it was the week.
before you were there.
I changed my gut feeling last week.
You convinced me.
Okay, well, congratulations to you.
Appreciate your bravado at this point.
I like it.
Ashton Jinty on the fast track to his first
thousand-yard season.
Dude, he's 5'8.
Are you sure he's going to do this?
Matt, where was he drafted?
Top 10.
Okay.
Case close.
Now, first of all, barring injury.
He sounds like he's a great kid.
I want to say he went to high school in Texas,
but grew up somewhere else. I think he's a military kid.
Did you notice they did a lot of more nice stories this year?
I think they heard the criticism of everybody like,
God, will you stop talking about everybody's father dying and grandmother
and this guy's in the hospital?
Most of the people's kids, most of these kids have really ill parents.
Some of them, I mean, no.
There's probably at least five.
There are good stories to be found too.
Right.
So I think they were a little nicer this year like,
oh, yeah, this guy likes to go bowling.
We're like, oh, cool.
There's that one guy that's a big bowler, right?
But bulls like a 190.
Yeah.
I was actually, and this is not to be creepy, but it's going to come across that way.
Here we go.
I was doing the evaluation of the moms and the girlfriends.
Why?
Because just wanted to see what the clientele was like.
Why?
Because I'm a warm-blooded male.
Okay.
Oh, please.
So who had the hottest girlfriend?
I don't really know.
They were all very nice.
You said you were doing evaluations?
They were all about the same.
You're doing measurements.
You got them at the combine?
Tell me, when Luca Dodgers got traded, we as American,
and warm-blooded men were like, man,
Luke's mom's hot. We were doing it. We were just were.
You mean when he got drafted? You mean when he got drafted? Yeah, yeah.
Yeah. Andre Iguidola, I think, tweeted
about it. He said, mom's decent.
And if he can do it, why can't we?
That'll conclude today's conversation of what moms and girlfriends look like.
So you got no breakdown of the draft prospects,
but just the prospects, mothers and girlfriends.
It feels like some more entertaining.
Okay.
I mean, we can go to a deep breakdown.
We'll have you make a big board.
Why don't you give us a breakdown of all 32?
I don't have it in front of me.
Oh, well, we can get it eventually.
It played out mostly how we thought we would.
The Giants moving up for Jackson Dart.
People thought it might be Shadur Sanders, but it was Dart.
It was Dart, yeah.
And the Texans didn't make a draft pick.
Yep.
How was a draft party last night?
Did anybody go?
What draft party?
The Texans had some sort of drive party.
Yeah, I mean, I don't know if I may went,
but I know that Cal and Hannah were taking pictures with people.
That was intriguing.
That's good.
Why wouldn't they?
What's wrong with you?
with that. They're amongst the people.
Yeah, absolutely.
They had a really bad image and the image
has improved significantly. They shook hands,
they kissed babies, they took pictures and said, hey,
we need you to help us finance the stadium in Fort Bend County.
Under the steady handed guidance of Hannah.
Oh, for 100%. That's all Hannah.
I was like, can I go in the draft room? And she's like, no, no, no.
They don't want you in there.
Yeah. I'll have to finish my call of duty
campaign. Do I have to do this tonight, Hannah?
Do you think they pull the video games out of his office?
Yeah.
made like a draft room 2.0.
This is a big storming mission.
We have to rescue the president.
It's like, all right, Cal, can you do that later?
It's like, you have to go out and meet your constituents because you're going to be asking for $2 billion in renovations.
And we need to get as many positive vibes as possible out there.
Yeah, but I just got an AK-47.
I think I'm going to win the mission.
Do you think, do you think, DeLisious Barbecue catered the war room last night?
They might have.
That's pretty funny.
We could, we could.
But what does Casario want?
He's not eating brisket.
Yeah, I think actually Dale told us that.
He was kept on changing his plate and changing his order.
We should check him with Dale Brinth and see what's going on, how delicious.
We haven't talked to Delicious Park in a while.
Hopefully he's doing all right.
He's at Main Street.
He never gets his cross streets right.
Yeah, I don't know.
He said by the CBB.
Yeah.
There's about 50 of those on Main Street.
That is true.
All right.
Anything Goes Friday at 713-212-5.
790. 713212-5-790. If you want to follow us on Twitter, you may do that as well at SportsMT and at SportsRV.
We have some apologies to make this week, Ross, and we'll do that at 1130 today. If you have something you want to apologize for, something you've said, something you've done, time for you to say you're sorry.
We've got the Rockets leaving for Golden State tonight, or today, as a matter of fact, we've got the Astros starting a weekend series with the Kansas City Royals.
and the Texans trade out of number 25.
More on that next.
1016, Sports Talk 790.
It is 1021.
It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
I know anything goes Friday.
713-212-5-790.
7-1-3-212-5-7-90.
Look, I don't care.
Did you really care have an opinion one way that the Texas moved out of 25?
I think there's way too many of positive.
I think there's way too many apologists saying that it was a great move by Casario,
and there's way too many people that are saying, what are you doing?
You need an offensive line help.
I trust Casario.
I trust the guys in his warm room.
You can't have a hot, fiery take opinion about whether or not they should have taken somebody at 25 or not.
Somebody probably does.
But, yeah, we don't know.
We have to see what happens.
And we're not even going to know for years down the road.
They picked up good value.
They moved back.
They clearly like their options.
They have five picks in the top 100.
And top 100
And top 100 picks can be impactful.
So it comes down, it doesn't matter.
You can be mad about it and say,
oh, they need this guy and that guy.
You don't know whoever you wanted is going to be an absolute,
no doubt about it, can't miss pick.
You're talking about pick number 25.
And by the way, it's the same group people that pretend they're experts in the NCAA
March Madness Brackett tournament that are all of a sudden these draft analysts.
Yeah.
I take off my expert college basketball hat and I put on my expert draft hat.
Let's go.
So what we do on the show.
these goofy, meaty people, brilliant move by Gasserio, didn't get the guy that he wanted.
Well, you don't know.
I mean, he's only telling you what he wants to tell you.
Yeah.
He also said, like we, to zero surprise yesterday, that they, he was on the phone with essentially
every NFL team about moving up, moving down, staying right where it was.
I mean, typically the due diligence that general managers go through.
And I'll tell you, a good one.
Now, the draft obviously is very inexact science and they're going to be hits and there's
going to be misses.
A good way to get more hits is to get more picks.
And that's what Nick Casario did.
So I'm on board with it.
Of course, he has to do something with the picks.
He can have five top hundred picks.
He can go for five on them.
And I also think that, you know, there's no fourth or fifth round selections.
They're probably going to, I bet they move that one of those thirds to get into the fourth round.
I think so, too.
We've seen that as well.
Repackage and gain more assets, not necessarily just to have them.
Right.
But to use them to move back up.
there's somebody you really like. Yeah. So I
thought the
anger
slash apologist on
both sides were way over the top.
Because again,
if there's anything we really don't know
about, you know what sometimes I get to admit things,
we don't know about the draft process.
You're talking about thousands
of players. You're talking about a
team of about 20 people in a room
that have been scouting,
evaluating. You have one guy
with a cell phone and Nick Cicero,
that's hearing things.
And, you know, he says the guy that they might have taken a 25 is still available.
That could be complete bunk or that could be the absolute truth.
I mean, this is what the NFL draft is all about is a bunch of head games and people
lying to either overvalue or undervalue a particular player or talking about, hey,
I'm hearing rumors that are trying to move up.
Well, we heard that two days ago.
We believe it to be accurate, but it doesn't necessarily mean just because I'm hearing
something, means they're going to do it.
And then clearly, they did just the opposite.
Yeah. So I'm happy with where they are. We'll see what happens and we'll get the list of the names of the players and I'll look them up. And I imagine it's not going to be, it's not going to take five punters. So I'm going to be on board with whatever happens and we'll see how it goes.
Yeah. I just think if you invest heavily an offensive line, I think that generally speaking, the fan base will be pleased with that. And frankly, the Texans as an organization should be. Because again, I don't think the cast of characters they have brought in necessarily are the ones that you're thinking about are cornerstones to the future offensive line in the next three or four years.
I think if the board would have broken a different way that they may have picked at 25.
I think that the rumors were true that they were really wanting Kelvin Banks, but he went ninth.
I think that maybe they were looking at Matthew Golden and Emeka Buka, and both of those were off the board, so they moved down.
Yeah.
I'm calling Calvin Banks.
Again, I'm only looking at what ESPN showed me yesterday.
That's a grown man right there.
Yeah, he started.
He surrendered to three sacks while he was at University of Texas.
he was already a he was already talked about as a first round pick as a true freshman yeah
is very good 315 pounds what is he 6 6 is that what i saw the measurable yeah yeah it's a dow you
know the best part of watching those highlights is not necessarily in in past protection is watching
how fast they get down the field to help their running backs with that last little block and i saw a couple
Kelvin banks uh highlights in that he can do he's mobile matt well yeah mobile agile hostile well it's not
about just girth anymore. It's about feet. It's about quickness. It's about hand placement.
What? Wow. Offensive line guru. Break it down, baby. Yeah, that's what I'm doing. I'm doing. I'm
not a failed radio host that's doing YouTube. I've got a successful radio career. That's what I do.
I'm being practical here. You're doing great, Matt. I'm not trying to oversell something or
undersell something. But I thought last night, first of all, you couldn't have, and this is weird
because Green Bay was such a big deal made out of it.
It didn't have a Green Bay feel to it.
It had a big convention area feel to it.
You could have been anywhere.
You could have been anywhere.
There was a lot of Packers fans.
I thought it was just a little different yesterday.
Maybe because the weather wasn't great.
Temperatures were in the 40s during this thing.
But when it was in Detroit, was it a couple of years ago or last year, I felt the vibe of Detroit.
I didn't feel the vibe of Green Bay Wisconsin.
Are there night fights in the parking lot or something?
No.
I mean, there might have been some dark deals in the back.
But, you know, no.
I can say that because I'm from there, so don't get mad at me.
But yeah, it just, it felt like that was just happened to be like Lambo had a few people in it, but it was not really lit up.
And it was nighttime.
So this whole thing of selling it to different cities, while those individual cities think that's cool, for me, it didn't do much for me.
No, I mean, I don't care.
It's away for them to make money.
Or did those people pay tickets to get in?
Oh, I'm sure.
What about some of those people were like a mile away from the age.
That they did have 100,000 people there last night.
And the city of Green Bay only has a population of 100,000.
So it's one of those worried situations
You've booked them hotels up
You know, as I was thinking about this
When I was living in Minneapolis
I was like, why don't I build a hotel in Green Bay?
I mean, like a real like a five-star.
You should, Matt.
Well, the problem is, is that you'd have it full
for nine days a year.
Or 18 games in 18 days a year.
But does anybody go to Green Bay in like March?
No.
And want to go spend, I mean, there's a reason why
there's not a five-star hotel in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Is it because you just...
There's not?
No.
In matter of fact, when they,
opposing teams play in Green Bay.
They don't even stay in Green Bay the night before.
They stay in a city called Appleton.
It's got a really nice five-star property.
Got a resort kind of thing.
But yeah, I was like,
man, we've got to build ourselves a hotel in Green Bay.
Charge $275 a night.
And I'm thinking, all right, well,
probably in April,
I got to charge like $40 a night.
Yeah, you're going to have to pivot to hourly.
Put their massagers in the beds and whatnot.
Jekuzi rooms.
And give them, like, the free extra channels
that you didn't ask for.
so you put condoms in the
Turndown service
Oh, turn down
Instead of chocolates
That's right
No, yeah
No warm towel
But a warm condom instead
Warm
Well, I guess it could be room temperature
So about the Shurdor
Sanders
When do we come back?
When do we come back?
10-29
Your full scouting tape
On Shador Sanders coming up
It has been obviously
You know what it is Ross
It's the number one topic in sports
Because he's the most
Reignable draft league
I mean no disrespect to Cam Ward
But
Shreder Sanders
was the storyline on yesterday's draft. We'll get to that coming up in a minute. 1029.
It is the Matt Thomas Show, Ross. 713-212-5-7-90.
It goes Friday here on the Matt Thomas Show with Ross. Our time is at 1033. We're very happy to have our internet back.
So thanks to the great folks at the IT department of the parent company, that is IHeartMedia.
Rossi, explain the essence to the audience of an anything goes Friday, please.
Yes, Matthew, anything you want to get to? Phone lines wide, open and available. Day drunks, welcome even more than usual.
at 713.
212.5-790.
7-13-212-5-7-90.
If you want to talk about the weekend series
coming up against the Kansas City Royals,
the Rockets have game number three.
Is it a must-win game?
I say yes.
Must-win game Saturday for the Houston Rockets
taking on the Golden State Warriors.
The reason why you say that,
and I'm thankful that you are doing this,
is that Jimmy Butler is questionable for the game.
on Saturday night.
Yeah, that's a must-win game now.
Well, I mean, put it this way.
A must-win.
If you lose a game in Jimmy Butler is not out there,
that is a devastating setback.
Yeah, it's got to be a must-win game.
Then if they lose that one, game four will be a must-win game,
and then when they win that one, game five will be a must-win win,
and then you don't want to...
You need a game four must-win because you don't want to fall down three-one of the series.
And then if you do, then you are in literal must-win games.
So, yeah, a lot of must-win games coming up.
We can talk about that.
It's 7-1-3.
212 5790.
Who do you think the Texans
will draft at 34?
Matt will give us his full breakdown.
You can as well at 713.
212.
Well, I'm going to acquiesce to Gordia on that.
He'll be coming in in a few minutes.
He's got his list because, you know,
he's probably got a litter of SEC prospects.
Yeah, but it's all raging Cajuns and, yeah,
LSU guys on his board.
I mean, I don't know why he's got a bunch of U.L.
Monroe for players at the top of his list.
Uh-huh.
Yeah.
Billy Tebradoe.
His guy, he's looking good at Cinnah now, baby.
Oh, let me tell you right now.
You're doing Monroe, Louisiana Radio right now.
You are on Cloud 9.
Look all the SEC player taken in the first round.
Yes.
Yeah, look at this.
It's, well, frankly, it's mostly SEC and Big Ten, if you look at it.
Except for Ashen Genty, who went to Boise State.
Yeah, the Boise State Broncos.
Yeah.
Ooh, here we go.
And analysis for every 2025 first round pick.
Let's see how the Texans did.
They didn't make one, Matt.
This is USA Today.
This is our buddy Nate Davis.
Oh, that's our dog.
That's our content creator right there.
No, you know, you don't get a grade because you just know, yeah.
Yeah, why would you get a grade, Matt?
Well, because somebody's going to be complaining about the fact that the team should have made a pick in the first round.
Yeah, when they traded back, I was hoping that one of Josh Connerley or Josh Simmons would follow the tackles from Oregon and Ohio State, respectively.
Both of them did get snapped up.
Connerley at 29th and then Simmons at 32nd.
which I believe the chiefs traded back up to take that.
Or they swapped.
Oh, no, they swapped.
Never mind.
So let me give you the, real quick, the low-hanging fruit of last night.
Okay.
And that was the only one thing I cared about except for what the Texas were going to do at 25.
It was, you know, Shador Sanders is a lightning ride.
There was a report earlier this week from an assistant coach who didn't want to announce his name,
said this kid is a terrible interview, his terrible vibe, blazes of people and others, very unimpressive.
And, oh, by the way, he's just not that good.
and he's probably going to, well, not probably, he'll probably be, he will be selected in today's second round.
But there was so much of the story in line about is this guy being overhyped, is this guy also being attached to his dad who probably will cause some issues?
I mean, I understand, Ross, that Chador obviously appreciates the fact that his father was one of the greatest players of all time and was given up and given an opportunity to play football throughout his life.
And he made the most of it.
He had two very good seasons at Colorado.
good enough to be retired. I mean,
the Jersey retirement is an absolute atrocity.
No, it's ridiculous. Okay.
But with that being said,
you kind of made your bet you got to line it.
Dion is attached to Chador.
Whether Chador wants it or not.
And if I'm Chador,
I kind of do what the ball did
boys did with Dad.
Said, take us a few steps back.
But I don't think that's
in Dion's DNA.
Yeah, I guess it'll, I mean,
He's going to get drafted somewhere and then he's going to be in camp.
And then I would imagine Deion's going to back off.
I think he knows enough to probably do that.
But this is more of a media talking point to me than just from people I'm reading from reports from Albert Breer from others is that the NFL didn't see him as a first round pick.
So this is not a slide.
This is not, his stock isn't falling.
This isn't surprising.
It's where he's supposed to be.
In NFL circles, nobody had him as a first round pig.
but because of who his father is,
because of all the immediate attention that he's gotten,
that some people maybe had him up higher on his boards
than the NFL does.
This happens every year to a certain extent, right?
Like Will Levis slid.
You've had other guys who slid down drafts.
I mean, we can go all the way back to like Aaron Rogers and stuff like that.
There have been guys who slid just this year.
It happens to be his dad is one of the biggest stories in college football
in the last couple of years,
and they just made the ways with the Jersey retirement stuff.
But you also, by the way,
have one of the
OG draft Nicks, Mel Kiper, who loves him.
Yeah, but
Say what you all about
whether or not you buy into Mel Kiper's credibility
at this point in his life.
But if Mel Kiper speaks,
he has such a platform
that people are going to say
something's not right. He does, but
I mean, McShay's gone from there.
Yeah, I'd rather, I trusted McShay
more when he was there. Same thing
with, I mean, NFL.com's
Schmant Shmerline,
Dane Bruegler from the athletic.
There are 10 guys that I trust before
Mel Kiper. That's just...
Yeah. But none of them
have the platform that Mel Kiper does.
No, they don't. But
yeah.
When you have Mel Kiper on television
from multiple hours going, this is a tragic
mistake. The team is really going...
These teams are going to be regretting
the move by moving in a second round.
Like I said, I didn't watch him.
But I kept looking at the Twitter going, I mean,
this is, Kiper's like, I can't believe he's not.
He's not available.
But to your point,
most evaluation is second round quarterback.
Yeah.
Didn't Shane Hallam say that when we had him on yesterday?
Yeah.
You are,
you are,
why would you overdraft a guy
as an important position as a quarterback,
who by the way,
is bringing luggage and baggage with him?
He just is.
And I'm sorry for Shador and Dion don't believe that,
but it's 100% the truth.
And Rossi,
these NFL teams don't have time
for meddling fathers.
They just don't.
And you know who doesn't have time
for these meddling fathers?
these coaches that are trying to keep their jobs.
Because the rumors of Deon going to the NFL are never going to go away until
Deon officially goes to the NFL.
Yeah, that's going to happen wherever he gets drafted.
Let's go to Anthony.
Anthony. Anthony, good morning. Thanks for waiting.
Hey, good morning, guys.
Hey, so my, was that was, I'm sorry, my brains or my thoughts are escaping me.
Was that Mel Kuiper that was breaking down the draft last night?
He was on ESPN, yes.
Man, look, it was, it was exhausting.
listening to him on the on the on the shadur sanders front but my thoughts are that if teams had
jackson dart and should doer sanders close in their evaluations if i'm a if i'm an nfl
executive i'm going with jackson dart simply because i don't want to deal with dion
sanders i i mean i appreciate deion's the greatest corner of all time there's no question but
I just don't want that drama in my locker room.
I mean, would you guys agree?
100%.
And I don't mean to dumb it down, Anthony, and simplify it.
But the reality is, in a locker room of 53 players and a fan base and a general manager and a scouting department,
you as a head coach, have so many responsibilities.
The last thing you need is have to answer questions on a weekly basis about what Dion said about his son.
And Dion will not be quiet about Chador.
You know he's going to, he wasn't quiet about it when he played.
and he's certainly not going to be quiet about if he doesn't play right away.
And one other thing.
So in 2023, when the Texas drafted C.J. Stroud and Will Anderson,
people still had us penciled in his last place in the AFC South, which may be rightfully so.
But I think a team last night had a very similar draft, and that was the New York Giants.
and I think, and I could be totally wrong,
but I think that the Giants will compete for a playoff spot next year.
I think Abdul Carter is going to be defensive rookie of the year.
I think Jackson Darts going to be a good NFL quarterback,
and I think the Giants won the first round of the draft by a mile last night.
Well, they addressed certainly two very key positions,
and I don't know enough about what they have besides those two players.
It'd be hard for me to fathom that two rookies could turn them into a playoff team,
especially with a rookie quarterback.
Now, remember, Russell Wilson is there now.
So Jackson,
darn, doesn't have to worry about trying to win a job right away.
And James Winston there, too.
Right?
That I don't know.
Yeah.
Well, but James Winston knows his role at this point.
What do you mean?
He's out there to sign it.
Yeah, he's going to throw 15 touchdowns and throw 15 interceptions.
And probably one game.
Yeah, that is true.
That is true.
Let's get a quick timeout.
We'll talk to,
Dustin and the James. We'll get to you guys in a couple of minutes.
We have I'm sorry as I get to 1130, Ross.
You have to apologize for some things you've said this week?
No, why?
You've been really perfect this week?
I've been 100% perfect.
I've got many apologies to me.
You should.
713-212-5-790.
7-1-3-2-1-790 with...
1049 on Sports Talk 790.
I think I wanted Will Campbell with my Texas lineman.
He's bawled on that stage.
First of all, he's mean.
Got a good chin beard going for himself.
Mm-hmm.
He's all emotional.
Of course, is interviewed with
Locked on SEC's Chris Gordy at some point.
Oh, yeah.
Gordy had all the top flight guys.
Mm-hmm.
As he should.
Kelvin Bates.
Oh, we got to get his microphone on first.
Huh.
He said something's wrong with the board.
It's not working.
All right.
How about that one?
Nope.
Nope.
Nope.
Now I hear it, yeah.
Now, see it.
What is going on?
What?
Now talk.
There you go.
You're on.
Check.
Yeah.
All right.
Yeah.
you had all the stars on.
Yeah, that's the fun part of us to interview these guys and see where they end up going.
And a lot of guys we've had throughout the years on the SEC pot have ended up Houston Texans.
So Eric Stingley and Christian Harris.
Funny, we don't get those guys.
Will Anderson?
We don't, we haven't got those guys on the show.
Because you wouldn't care.
If I said, Matt, I can get you Alabama lineback.
No, no, no, no.
You didn't listen to me.
We haven't gotten them on since they've been Houston, Texas.
Well, and I don't get them either when they were Houston, Texas.
Well, it's getting Will Anderson on the show. Come on.
What for?
He's an impactful defensive player for the Texans.
Let's go.
I got him at the Super Bowl, the trip that I paid out of pocket to go to.
I don't know how to respond to that.
I was, I was a little, look, it was a little wet fart, right?
Like, just a little like, this sucks.
How about you just go ahead?
How a wet blanket?
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry, Gore.
There are people that are doing YouTube channels that think it was a genius move by the
Cassario.
It's the second straight year.
You don't pick a lot.
in the first round. I don't know, man. I get the whole, you want to get more draft
picks and all that, but it just feels like we're in the prime of CJ Straub. This will not
last a long time. Let's get him the best players we can surround him with. Let's go.
This one's the Super Bowl window will not be open forever, Call and Hannah. It's never been open.
It's open. It's open. It's, it ain't open. This team was a, a better second half away from
beating Kansas City and going to their first AFC championship game. Well, Baltimore was a
better second half of beating Kansas City.
No, they wouldn't have won the Super Bowl.
What was the halftime score?
With the Chiefs?
It was close.
And they come out first drive
to the second half and score, right?
The Mix and touchdown?
They could have beaten the Chiefs,
but I don't think they go on the road
and beat the bills, too, even though they had beaten the bills.
But even if that happens, they probably get smashed
by the Eagles, so.
I mean, they weren't good enough.
They weren't good enough.
Yeah, they're in a good spot.
I'm with you.
The Super Bowl and window is open, Matt.
So let's be true.
I can't get the, I can't get the AMC
championship window to open.
Okay.
Well, they made the playoffs.
They made it to the division around back-to-back years.
I think they have a shot.
Yeah.
So do the Cincinnati Bengals.
They got a shot.
They do.
They got Joe Burrow.
You got C.J. Stroud.
L.A. Chargers is tough.
L.A. Chargers are going to spot.
It's Josh Allen.
It's a tough conference.
It's a tough conference.
And they're in the mix.
They've won their division back-to-back years and made the divisional round back-to-back
years.
And I know you hate the Texans, but the Super Bowl windows open.
I just think that there's just way too much fawning over them.
Who's fawning?
Let's move on.
I just think you need to add, like, add some premier talent.
The trade back one year, fine.
Trade back the second year in a row?
Like, add some premier talent.
Look, they hit on Kamari Lasser.
Camarry Lassar, some people had a first round grade on.
They got them in the second last year.
Okay, no harm, no foul.
That's great.
They're going to have the second pick of the draft tonight.
Again, the thought process is you're going to get somebody that had a first round grade,
but you get them in the second.
But it's got to be an impact player.
It's got to be a starter.
Yeah, well, that's what they're going to go for.
That's what they're trying.
That's what Nick Casario is trying to do.
They have a lot of needs.
My board?
I don't know.
I don't have a board.
I mean, I have ESP.
I have Mike, I have, what's his name?
Mel Kiper's board up.
You think Mel Kiper is getting side money from Dion to say, hey.
Shador Sanders is top of my board.
Me and Mel Kiper have Shador Sanders at the top of our board.
That was the case yesterday, too.
I mean, I don't like any.
I would have liked to see.
When he traded out, you had both Josh Simmons and Josh Connerly on the board, and both of them got taken.
So I was hoping one of those two would fall to 34 when they traded out.
So that was the rumor was the Texans were really like Donovan Jackson from Ohio State's local kid, I think, Episcopal.
That was going to be their guy.
And the Vikings literally one pick before them took him.
And so they went, well, that was our guy.
Let's trade back.
And that does happen in sports all the time.
Yeah.
And I mean, he wasn't their whole.
guy. They loved Kelvin Banks, but when he went
9th, they're like, we're not getting him.
I think they liked Matthew Gold.
So, I mean, there were guys they liked, but
when it got to them, they're like, okay, 25,
who's the next best player on our board?
Was, you know, was Donovan,
what's his face?
Donovan, what's his face?
Donovan Jackson.
So when he's off the board, they're like, I guess their next
best graded player, they're like, you know, we can get that
guy 34. Let's wait.
So now, why are you all upset then?
Because it just, it just, I don't like
The concept of, you have first-round picks.
You use them.
Trading back just feels like you're trying to be the smartest guy in the room.
And I'm looking at CJ Stroud.
Nick Casero absolutely believes he's the smartest guy in the room.
I'm looking at CJ Stroud.
You just got rid of his whole offensive line.
Like, let's get some talent here.
How about, you know what I'm going to do, guys?
I'm going to sit and wait and see what they do.
Now, if they don't go all the line at 34, then you're going to have to open up a criminal investigation.
But no, I mean.
The problem is.
Here's the thing.
Is there a significant difference between 25 and 34 at a tackle position?
My guess is not significantly.
Aaron Wilson said earlier they liked this kid from Minnesota.
Ursery, that they think that this, if they were on the clock right now, that would be the pick.
Okay.
Arionte Ursary.
Yeah, he's good.
From my film breakdown.
A little stiff.
You looked at him on YouTube for 30 seconds.
A little stiff in his sets, Matt, I think.
But it got good hands.
Started 38 games.
in college at left tackle.
Well, that sounds like a guy that could step in right away, right?
Yep.
Played against Big Ten competition, so the competition's good.
Unless the thought process was signing a bunch of these dudes on the one-year deals,
was that, you know, the Cam Robertson and those guys like,
okay, they're going to start to start until this guy's ready.
And then we'll work them in.
Yeah, people like Ozzie Tripilo, who is the Boston college guy.
I think his dad played in the NFL too.
Got a mean streak.
But he's 6-8.
6-8 might be a little tall.
I do like...
Vindy edge guys might be able to get around them.
I like the center, Jared Wilson, from Georgia,
but I think they feel good about Patterson and, you know...
I think Jared Patterson's your starting center.
I think Drew Scruggs is what, your right guard?
Mm-hmm.
And then everything else is kind of up in the air.
I mean, Titus Howard, you put him at right tackle,
or you put him in left guard?
Probably right tackle.
because well but Blake Fisher you just drafted last year.
Yeah.
Okay, well then I guess you put him in guard.
Blake Fisher, Blake Fisher got better.
Blake Fisher, he went from completely trash and getting beat on every snap to solid.
Yeah, and that's how I feel about the Ursula guy.
Like he's going to go through, he could be your left tackle, but he's going to go through growing picks.
So Cam Robinson maybe starts the your left tackle.
But yeah.
But anyway, that's, if they take, if that's the pick at 34 today, you feel good.
All right.
All right.
So all this, all this anger and, in, uh, angst you have will be gone.
in approximately eight hours from now.
It's not anger. It's just like, I just want to take,
you have a first-run pick, use it.
Yeah, but you want something to chew on,
but he's doing what's best for the long-term of the team.
So I understand.
I'm not going to crush him for trying to get more picks.
There's no possible way I can crush it.
And getting more value.
I can crush them. You know what we can crush them on?
This is what we're supposed to do.
You crush him for previous drafts.
And the offensive line remains a mess three years into the mix here.
So they have the second pick tonight,
then they will have the 26th pick at the back end.
to the second round.
And then they have multiple third rounders too.
And they're going to dump one of those third rounders.
Yeah, they could, so they have, in the third round, they have picked 15, pick 25, and
pick 25, and pick 35.
I can put 35 and 25 together and move up.
I can put 15 and 25 and move up to the back end of the second.
You could do a multiple different things to move up.
You got Kaelan Bullock in the third round last year, and he was good.
He was an impact starter all season long.
Oh, well, Kiseria has drafted pretty well.
It feels like offensive line.
It's just been...
Yeah.
The Kenyon Green was a miss.
It was a horrible miss.
Chair Patterson,
Juice Grugsman,
Blake Fisher,
we'll see.
You have CJ Gardner Johnson,
but you have nobody...
Yeah.
But that was more of like a salad dumping.
Going to CJ for a second.
Is there any issue with CJ Garner Johnson
just finishing off being a huge part of a Philadelphia Eagle team
and they said,
we don't need you anymore?
They can't afford everybody.
They just, yeah, it's just salary.
That's a Kyle Tucker situation.
Okay.
Love the player.
There's your cross reference.
Okay, I got you.
All right.
So let's do this.
So let's, I don't know we have any audience left because I think a lot of these guys are over people's heads.
We got draft calls.
We're doing good.
No, we don't.
Well, I don't count James.
Let's do this.
Let's remind folks with what you guys.
You're doing something tonight, correct?
Yeah, we're at Carbock Brewing.
Yes, we are.
I'm there.
You're going to?
Yeah.
They paying you?
Yeah.
Okay, good.
$5.
drafts. That's what I'm
paying. I'll buy you a couple of words. Come
you. I got to do the post game. I'm not getting
licked up before we're doing the post game.
Astros watch party over at
Carbock brewing, the official watch party.
$5 Crawford Box. We've got
the shooting stars are going to be there.
Orbit's going to be there. The championship trophies
are going to be there. So I think
you can get a picture, photo op with them.
Michael Bourne is going to be in the house.
Nimitz High School Legend.
Yeah. So it's going to be a lot of fun. Come on out and
see us. I'll be doing the Astros on
Dick show at 530. Out there, Carbuck, should be
good weather, should be a lot of fun.
You'll have Brian McTaggart on the show. Yeah.
All right, so. Come on out. It's going to be a big, and he won't
be out there. Is he in Kansas City? I wonder if he's
staying home this weekend. He's probably Kansas City.
I mean, you come on out. No, I'll be in San Francisco.
But I'll listen online.
On the I'm at 130.
Okay.
Big Saturday, man. We've got draft.
We got Astros. We got rockets.
A fun weekend.
1105 on Sports Talk 790.
It is hour number two of four. We take this program. You'll 2 o'clock today.
On anything that goes Friday at 713, 212, 1-2-5-790. 7-19.
7-1-3-212-5-7-90. Astros opened up a series this weekend against Kansas City.
The Royals are under 500. The Astros are a half game out of first place in the America League West because Texas lost yesterday. Seattle did win.
So Seattle is now in the top spot in the West. Rockets are practicing right now as we speak.
heading off to San Francisco later on this afternoon to take on the Warriors in game three
that series and Jimmy Butler again very much still up in the air as to whether or not he will play.
The MRI was negative, but I think Sham said questionable to play.
I mean, again, his tweet is a deep glute contusion or something like that?
Which we've all had that before.
I have not.
Well, he's going to try to give it a go.
I mean, there's no if-hands or butts about it.
He's going to try to go because they know that they don't have a really consistent second score if it's not for him.
I'll give you the exact words from Ashem's Sharania.
Please do.
Golden State's Jimmy Butler has been diagnosed with a deep glute muscle contusion and his status for game three against the Houston Rockets is in serious jeopardy.
League sources tell ESPN.
This is best case because MRI showed Butler avoided any fracture or structural damage.
Well, serious jeopardy sounds like he's not going to go.
Yeah. That's why I got feeling he's going to miss one game. We'll see.
And, of course, that game is a must-win game.
I mean, no, it's not. It's not. You can lose the game as to win the series.
That's what you want me to say, so I'll say it.
No, it's a must-win game.
Series is over if you lose it. No, I didn't say that.
Series would be, I'll tell you what, it would be a major boost for them if they can win a game without him.
Because they didn't look like the same basketball team overnight when they didn't have him.
We got to declare a moratorium on must-win game discourse.
Okay, how much? I'm done.
Yeah, I'm 11.08.
We're calling a truce.
We're like the Bloods and Crips calling a truce.
We're like the Hatfields and McCoys.
Yes.
Bloods and Crips.
The Capulets and the Montagueues.
Yeah, we're like the,
oh, the Ewing's and the Barnes.
I don't get that one.
Okay. Patrick Ewing?
No, 713, 212.12.
719.790.
7.719.
It's anything goes Friday.
NFL.
Again, it's, to be brutally honest,
you don't have a Houston Texan player.
I'm not going to get into a deep dive on Carolina's pick.
You're talking about Cam Ward.
Is he the least-hyped number one overall pick?
Nobody's really talked about it.
For like a quarterback.
Haven't there been some offensive linemen
have kind of gotten the same sort of?
Yeah, I'm talking about, okay,
a least-hyped number one overall quarterback.
Yeah, because there are some people that, like,
the man was just in our studio before.
He says he's going to be one of the biggest one-dash-one bust ever.
Rossi, when you're 1-1, you're supposed to be generational.
Which I don't know if you, that's not fair.
You can't be generational every single year.
You can't have a generational player every year, can you?
Sometimes you can miss.
All right, I'm just going to get a list of some of the last quarterbacks to go 1-1.
Bryce Young last year, or two years ago, sorry.
Trevor Lawrence, before that, huge hype.
Joe Burrow, massive hype.
Kyler Murray, pretty big hype.
Yeah.
Baker Mayfield, Jared Gough.
Maybe good, Jared Gough wasn't super hype.
Golf wasn't that much of hype.
Okay, so we'll go back to golf.
Okay, so that's going back 10 years.
Before that, it was James Winston, Andrew Luck, Cam Newton.
Sam Bradford.
That was a huge hype.
It's all a big one.
I think Sam Bradford, wasn't he the last quarterback to get the super big money early?
Yeah, I think they were like, if we gave him $50 million guaranteed and we have to
absolutely change the way we conduct our business.
In a hard cap league, who, that's tough.
Now, Travis Hunter going to Jacksonville was very intriguing at number two.
Yeah, that's cool.
And they said they're going to play them on both sides of the ball.
I don't know how many snaps, but that'll be interesting.
If you had him, wouldn't you do the exact same thing?
Unless you believe that one side of the ball is that college competition is nothing we're going to replicate what he'll see in the NFL.
This is not Tuesday, so I have time on this.
I bet you he's just on one side of the ball within three years.
Exclusively.
Right.
I think they're going to run with it.
I think they're going to try it.
I think they're going to see it's a jack of all trade.
master of none situation and then they're just going to have to make a choice.
That's what I think.
Or he's just going to be the most incredible athletic specimen of all time.
It's one or the other, which he may be.
I mean, he's special.
Travis Hunter is special.
Can I, I'm not going to go all the way to your direction.
I'm going to say he is going to play some of both for the next three years.
But I think he's not going to play all of both.
He's not going to play 75% of the snaps on both sides.
No, no, no.
But I think it's going to, I think you're, I think you're a,
to wind up seeing him in selective defensive positions.
I think from an offensive threat,
you can put him out there every single down and be fine.
From a defensive side to go cover receivers
over and over and over again
after running a bunch of pass routes the previous drive?
No. But I will say this.
I think I'm going to go with, he will have a longer
two-way career than you perhaps think he does at this point.
I think it'll be limited.
I think if he does it, even after three years,
it's like special packages.
He comes in as a wide receiver and he's running screens
and a couple of deep balls here.
in there. So that's what, I think you're closer to me than you think. I don't think he, yeah,
I don't think he's not going to be anywhere close to a full-time player. I don't know how long
they're going to try it. I don't know exactly what they're going to do. And seriously, if I'm
him, I'm mad that all the Shador Sanders stuff is overplaying what I did. I'm the one that won the
Heisman trophy. I'm the one that was a two-bay player. I'm the one that got Colorado back
to relevancy more so than Shador Sanders did. He went over two, he went number two overall. He does
have a lot of hype, but I understand you. You're probably right. He's probably overshadowed
right now. And he's supposed to be a unicorn.
So if he does it, I want him to.
I love, I mean, you know, Matt, we
love sports here. And one of the
reasons I love sports is because crazy stuff
you've never seen before. We love that
Shio Otani can pitch and hit, which hasn't
happened in a while. It's crazy. I, you know what?
I love it. I think it's like it's crazy. I love
when pitchers can throw with both arms.
Oh, ambidextrous.
Yes. That's, uh, there's not
any in the major things right now. Right now.
But I mean, I, I, I do like
physical, not abnormalities.
Audities.
Oddities.
Like Victor Caratini, switch hitter.
I'll be honest with you.
You're talking about Dion Sanders.
I love the fact that Deon Sanders
played two sports at the same time.
I grew up watching Bo Jackson play two sports.
Now, clearly at one point you have to separate yourself.
One of those hip got completely fractured out of the socket.
But Dion was able to do it for multiple years.
Yeah, that's cool.
So I want him to do it.
I just don't know, I mean, unless he is just really built that different.
Yeah.
Literally built different.
And the reality is the chance of him being successful both ways for a large part of his career is probably limited.
Because the NFL is, I mean, the talent jump from even the high end college to where he is now is significant.
What if he played both and got all pro on both sides of the ball?
That would be awesome. You'd have to give him NFL MVP.
You would have to.
It'd be the last non-quarterback to win. It was what, Adrian Peterson?
Yeah. It's typically either for running backs or for quarterbacks.
But if he can come in in the next three years, and let's say he grabs five and, let's say he grabs five,
interceptions and catches 10 touchdowns?
Tell me that's not MVP worthy.
Because you're getting two
spots with the price of one.
Wow. That'll be really interesting.
Well, I hope he doesn't do all that because he's in Jacksonville.
The division certainly got a lot more intriguing, did it not?
Well, you could argue.
You could argue.
Oh, you want to argue about something?
You could argue. That was a great night.
If you think that Cam Ward is going to be a bust
and Jaguars gave up a second first-round pick,
they gave up an extra first round pick to move up three spots.
They just absolutely must love him.
They love Travis Hunter.
So if Travis Hunter is an impact player,
but mostly only on one side of the ball,
and Cam Ward is a bust,
and the Jags lost a first round pick,
that could have been a very good night for the Texans.
And again, the Colts are probably going to have to go get another quarterback
if Anthony Richardson fails again this year.
So you're saying the supremacy in the AFC South remains in Houston, Texas.
Camps, baby, let's go.
And remember, they make the Super Bowl, guess what?
What?
Battle Red Matt.
Really?
Yeah.
I forgot about that.
It's got to be a Super Bowl, though.
We welcome you with, I thought it was Liberty White, Matt.
You could call me that regardless of I'm a Texan fan or not, which is not fair.
I'm trying to get my legs.
How do I get my legs done?
I need to...
Get in the sun, Matt.
You don't go outdoors.
But that takes weeks.
Can I just go get a spray tan where that'd be painfully obvious?
Then that's going to go away.
Yeah, I want you get a spray tan and some lip filler, Matt.
Matt, doing the lip filler stuff.
That's gross.

1119, Sports Talk 790.
we're going to apologize to people in about 10 minutes.
I like to,
I like through the allergens of the city of Houston
to apologize to me.
Seriously, this, I don't, I never had,
when I was a kid, I never had allergies.
And now it's just killing me.
Am I going to be better off in San Francisco
that I'm going to be here?
I don't know.
Maybe.
I'm asking this.
Do you bring in your jacket?
Yeah, I got sweatshirts and stuff.
It's cold over there, right?
Oh, yeah.
It's like in the 50s.
Hmm.
By the way,
Thank you all to the national media.
Two guys in particular.
Tim Legler, who does some ESPN games.
Shout out legs.
And Justin Termini, I don't know if you guys know who he is.
He does a show on it in the NBA radio with Eddie Johnson in the afternoon.
I wouldn't listen to it.
Eddie Johnson, Rockettator?
Yeah.
Former Rocket, ironically.
I know.
It still hates the Rockets.
Yeah, still hates the Rockets.
He's basically saying, shame on Golden State.
Shame on Steve Kerr for Blacket for Black.
the fans for saying F you, Draymond.
He says,
all of a sudden we're not worried about
Drayman's kids after watching
Draymons and the way he acts on the basketball court?
How do Draymond's kids feel about the fact that you can put in,
if you put Draymond Green compilation into YouTube?
Yeah.
It's not dunks.
Nope.
It's not three-pointers.
Not rebounds.
It's nut shots and people getting raked in the face
and getting their elbows dislocated.
And then what Legler said yesterday was
anybody that has any IQ that watch the YMEN Thompson collision
that was not a man trying to intentionally hurt Jimmy Butler.
No.
We even had a rocket called her yesterday that was trying to sell it that way.
I was like, man, what are you watching?
Yeah, he said he put both his elbows above his head, and that's like, I don't know what play you're watching.
No, he was watching something different.
It's the AI version, I guess.
I don't know.
So shout out to those guys for having the rockets back and for that man of the fans back.
And like I said, I'm not a super big fan of F you, whatever, but it's Traymond.
We could do without it, but yeah, you know, make special exceptions for everything.
in life, Matt. And we can make a special
exception for Draymond Green.
If anybody that deserves it, it's going to do it.
If anybody has earned it in the, probably in the history
of sports, but the history of the NBA.
Now, are you up there? Are you doing post-game tomorrow
night? I am. I'm doing pre-end post-game.
I'm so pumped. I'm glad to be back
on the Rockets' playoff coverage.
Bless you.
Thank you.
I think the whistles are going to be super tight tomorrow.
I think you can see a lot of that. I think it's going to be super
tight the rest of the series. I'll tell you this. Okay.
So the Warriors fans have been complaining a lot
about, you know, that a men
Thompson player. And then contact with Curry too.
Contact with Curry is, that's real.
I mean, it's real. They've been kind of
really physical with him.
I don't know if that's going to play
in game number three.
Just saying?
In Golden State?
In Golden State?
I think the Rockets did get a favorable whistle
overall, the first two games, just my
opinion. And I think it could swing
the other way. Wow.
Golden State only two and a half with all, probably because of
Jimmy Butler out.
Yeah, my guess is that, yeah, I think Jimmy Butler's worth
a point in a half, honestly. Yeah.
In the Vegas world. Let's go to
the phones, talk to some people. Remember, if you want to
apologize for something you've done to this week,
we'll do that in about 10 minutes. James
is with us on 7-98. James, what do you have?
Yeah, the draft
last night, at the beginning of the draft,
it seemed like they said that Jacksonville
and Houston had made a trade.
And, of course, Jacksonville made the trade,
and they got Travis Hunter.
But then they never really said what
Houston did. And I'm thinking maybe
at that time they'd already made their trade
and they weren't going to have a 25 pick anyhow.
Is that true?
No. They made a separate trade, but it was
before the draft and it involved mid-round
selections. It was nothing to do with Jacksonville.
Okay.
As far as the draft,
I wish they had traded up and, you know I wish he had
traded up and gotten Matthew
Golden, but that didn't happen.
But I think it's very important that they
realize that they need a better receiver.
I think they do because
Donald would not have been as good if he didn't have Jefferson
and Burrow wouldn't be as good as he didn't have that you receive as he has
and to think that we got a receiving court
that's going to make him a better quarterback. That's not true.
That's all I guess.
Thank you, James.
Yeah.
C.J. Stroud struggle when Nico Collins and Diggs was having issues
and Tankdale going down.
But, I mean, yeah, you're going to struggle when it's Xavier Hutchinson
and John Mechie and Dalton Schultz.
This is John Macch's last year as it takes.
I don't think he makes a roster.
We've seen the numbers from even Joe Burrow, who's a great quarterback.
When T. Higgins goes down or Jemar Chase goes down, like his numbers go down.
Breaking news.
When you have guys who can't get open every single play, like the best receivers on the planet,
you're going to struggle more as a quarterback.
Now, if the Texans would have kept and moved up to get golden, it would have been very flashy.
Yes.
But would that have been the right decision to make with that first round selection?
And that's the thing.
I think for the most part, Nick Kasson.
Serio's not concerned about splash.
Now, that did happen with
taking Stroud and Anderson, two and three
a couple years ago. I'm with you.
We're on the same page. You know where I'm going with this.
We think his hand was forced a little bit there. He was
100% forced to go get a quarterback.
I think Cal and Hannah went to him and
said, you do what you want, but you're
taking a quarterback in the first round. We need
first one, you need one. And number
two, we need some positive buzz. That was a time
with the relationship between the organization
the city was probably at an all-time low. Yeah,
I think outside of that, when his hand was
forced, he's Casario bot. I can get more value trading down. I will trade down. I will draft
practical players. He's just, he's Casario bot. That's who he is. That's right. So you input,
improved team and it spits out. Let's get a bunch of more picks and take a bunch of players. There is
nothing emotional about Nick Casero in any facet of his life. And I'm saying we don't know him,
but we have enough of a sample size of the way he conducts himself, the way he dresses, the way he
speaks to the media.
I don't think there is a gregarious side to Nick Asario.
No.
And if he's, that's who he is, I don't, nobody really cares.
You don't need a yuckster to be a good general manager.
You need a somebody that's going to build your franchise.
In a way, building a team, you kind of want somebody with a little bit of a cold-hearted side.
Especially in a hard cap league like this.
We're like, you know what?
You've got to make tough decisions.
You just got to go with it.
Yeah.
Let's go to John on 790.
John, thanks for waiting.
Good morning.
Good morning, good morning.
Hey, man, you know one thing that really, like, really, really frustrates me with these Go-to-State Warriors fans?
They're crying, talking about Amon Thompson forced his way through a boxout that Jay Mon Grin was doing.
When, in back of my head, I'm thinking, oh, you all that stupid?
Like, ain't you supposed to fight for a rebound?
Like, you're supposed to push yourself through that.
You're supposed to try to get a rebound.
And that's one thing they just don't comprehend.
Yeah, I think this happens a lot, too, John.
and it's that fans, they do isolated screenshots.
Just watch the video.
Watch the video and especially watch it in full time.
First of all, his eyes are up the whole time
and he gets pushed by Draymond Green and tripped by Stephen Adams.
So, I mean, it's one of those things where you put it in front of one fan base
and they see one thing and put it in front of another fan base and see it happens all the time,
especially, but the view of what Golden State is seeing right now
is being attacked by people nationally.
And that makes me very happy.
Get him legs.
Yes.
But the other thing is, I've seen his eyes looking up at the bar and rebound.
He did not see Jimmy Butler coming from his left side.
He came in out of nowhere.
Yeah, quite frankly, it was reckless by Jimmy Butler.
There's three people right there, and he comes flying in like that.
It was reckless.
Look.
A man, he deserved to get hurt.
A man's got a little bit of reputation.
But just because your reputation doesn't mean every single play that you're involving
a scrape like that means it's your fault.
And you're responsible for.
he was playing basketball
that was those
those were all basketball moves
they didn't review it for a flagrant
they knew exactly what it was
it was just a wrong place wrong time
and you're right
Jimmy Belder doesn't go fly in the air
to go attack for the offensive remand
it's a mood conversation
and not I'm not blaming him
him I don't want to blame him
I mean look he's plays hard
that's how he is he's a dog
look at John Morant last night
but we didn't even get to that yet
oh my God
one of my very good friends
is the voice of the Memphis Grizzlies
and I don't know if you guys know this or not,
but Memphis last night was up 26
to the Oklahoma City Thunder
and I believe we're outscored by the Thunder
in the second half, 6331.
Yeah.
It's pretty bad.
Didn't cover the 90s.
Lost by five.
After being down by 20,
up by 26 and lost by five.
I mean, my, my goodness.
I think that the Thunder are winning at all.
I didn't hear you.
I think that the under winning at all.
I don't think I still didn't hear you.
I'm sorry.
That's fine.
1128, Sports Talk, 790.
We take this program until 2 o'clock this afternoon.
713-212-5-790.
7-1-3-212-5-7-90.
12-0-2 in H-Town.
Good.
And welcome to a Friday.
edition hour number three of the Matt Thomas
Show with Ross. This
is Sports Talk 790.
Black man's game. Will you tell me?
I don't know. I'm not 56 and black.
Yeah, he just sent her a link
to the article that said he's about to get a hundred million dollar
deal and that was that. Yeah.
Can I spot you, baby?
And so he met her at a gym and it turned out
she was on Onlyfans? Yeah. Something like that, yeah.
I figured he would have met her from
Only fans, I guess.
You've been on Only fans lately?
Never.
Ross and I were going to share an account.
We couldn't figure out.
That's not accurate.
We couldn't figure out a way to use the debit card without our names attached to it.
You're one of one, Matt.
Interesting human being.
All right, 1206.
The strippers are awake?
I guess.
Cooner that 19 year old?
She's not a stripper, I guess.
No, she's just only fans.
That's different.
Sex worker.
Apparently she wants a big,
black baby and she wants you to wear a kind of in certain situations see how do you even
holler to get that conversation how do you even end up in that conversation oh of course it's hey
I love you let's be together I want to give you a now you wouldn't say do I have to walk out again
I mean I don't think I don't think my wife or said babe I can't wait for you to give me a big white
baby okay let's get into the news and dude you want to was that what we're doing it's anything
goes Friday and we're going to give you the main headlines
day right now on the news at noon.
And with that, we go to the Jerome Gray of sports journalism.
We speak of one and only Ross Villarreal.
Oh, yes, Matthew, we go to the news at noon right now.
You had the NFL draft yesterday.
A couple of noteworthy stories.
Cam Ward going number one overall to the Tennessee Titans.
How about Travis Hunter being taken by the Jacksonville Jaguars?
they trade from 5 to 2.
They give up a lot of draft capital,
including next year's first round pick for Travis Hunter.
As we mentioned, Matt,
while I do believe Travis Hunter will be a big-time impact player
at the NFL level,
if Kim Ward is a bus,
which some people seem to think he will be,
and the Jaguars are hurt long term
by all the draft capital they'd given up,
could have been a good night for the Houston Texans
who did not pick at number 20.
as they traded back.
And there were a lot of angst in the community of Texans fans saying they should have kept the pick,
should have moved up because there were rumors they were going to.
Problem was they weren't rumors, Ross, they were true.
They did call.
They did check on going up and down.
And Casario went down.
So for the 25th pick, the Houston Texans received pick number 34.
So moving from 25 to 34, they also got pick number 99.
and then a mid-third rounder next year.
So to move down nine places,
they got pretty good value, Matthew, in my estimation.
Again, I'm not judging him doing this.
You know what we're going to do?
We're going to judge him based off the selections he makes
and how they impact this team in two years.
Chris Cordy's very upset.
He wanted him to make a pick.
He wanted some fat to chew on today.
You're really very critical of Casario's run as a general manager of this team.
I don't know why he did that, but it's deep to sound.
I understand.
So I was interested to see if the 10th,
Texans would end up with Josh Connerly or Josh Simmons.
Those, the two tackles that were on the board when the Texans traded back.
Both of them were selected in the back end of the first round.
Right now, the top tackles on the board.
Arionte Ursary from Minnesota, Ozzie Tripilo from Boston College,
Charles Grant, William and Mary, who Shane Hallam mentioned as a sleeper yesterday with us.
And Anthony Belton, NC State.
And then Cameron Williams, the right tackle for the.
Texas Longhorns. Those are your top five
tackles left on the board. How you feel about Cameron Williams?
I like Cam Williams, but he committed
a lot of, he committed a lot
of penalties. We'll say he could
fill in the Laramie Tunso roll. He would fill
in for Laramie Tunsell quite nicely.
Probably not as big and
strong as Calvin Banks, but
he would be a developmental
tackle. He's very strong,
very big, he's got some technical
things to clean up, but
if you're looking for someone who looks the part
that you can develop into
a starting tackle, Cameron Williams can do that.
If you're a Texan fan right now, if you're C.J. Stroud, are you looking for
linemen to develop? Are you looking for someone that should be in the starting
five week one of the season? Well, you're in the second round. So, I mean,
you're going to be in the third round where you're talking about where Cameron Williams
is going to go. So, yeah, you can develop guys. Because right now,
your tackles are Cameron, I mean, your tackles are Cam Robinson and Titus Howard.
Or Blake Fisher. So, yeah. So you have a year to
kind of trial and error.
Because I don't think you've got here, Robinson here long term.
No, he's on a one-year deal.
And Titus Howard is on a longer-term deal.
Yeah, but you might have him at guard with Blake Fisher is maybe a long-term option.
And then, yeah, you just get players and then see what happens.
Okay, let's go.
You got to keep CJ upright.
That should be the T-shirt.
Keep CJ upright.
Yes.
All right.
Elsewhere in the news, Matt, you do have the weekend set, the Astros in Kansas City.
it will be Hayden Wesniewski against Seth Lugo, starting things off.
641st pitch here on Sports Talk 790.
Chris Gordy will have the Astros on deck show from Carbock Brewing.
There is an Astros watch party.
There will be orbit.
There will be the shooting stars.
There will be the championship trophies.
Nimitz slash Houston Astros legend.
Michael Bourne will be out there.
And I will be out there doing the post game as well.
You're going to be on the location to the post game show?
Yeah, why not?
That's putting you out in front of the people.
Yeah.
I am a man of the people, man.
I don't just go to my fancy hotels
and then shack up
and not be out there
mingling amongst the people. I'm a mingler.
They call me Captain Mingle.
And they call you something else. I think it's Dingle.
Barry. Say you're sorry.
I'm sorry. Thank you. That was
really rude. Right down on your list.
We'll save it for next week.
But yes, we'll be out at Carbock Brewing.
Tonight.
$5 pint specials.
Orbit. Shooting stars.
Trophies?
Michael Bourne.
Would you like to see Astro games start at 640?
I love it.
But I understand why it's not practical for that.
Yeah, I was going to say downtown.
Like, I think the rockets are a little nervous about next Wednesday.
They should be.
630 start.
Which is really 640, yeah.
You know what?
I got a terrible, terrible take for you.
You ready?
Yes.
Maybe downtowns are not where it's supposed to be.
I think it's downtown Houston.
Downtown Indianapolis is nice.
Downtown, I don't know.
L.A.
maybe not. Downtown Chicago
gets people down there.
Actually, the United Center is
not in downtown Chicago.
Whatever. He just gets a red line, go wherever.
They've got good transportation. Do you think we're going to
see in the next 25 years?
Not every city, but a lot of cities
go outside of the suburbs
because they're worried
about people.
Like the downtown vibe of Houston just hasn't
gotten any better. No, it hasn't.
Isn't Coorsfield kind of downtown Denver?
It is downtown Denver.
I would say most...
I think it's city dependent.
I think you're probably right.
And Houston, downtown,
while there's been some of whatever revival
in the last 20 years,
I'd think it's plateauing.
But like American Airlines Center in Dallas,
well, the Mavericks playing the stars.
It's an uptown,
people go in and they go out.
They don't stick around downtown in that area.
I think we're going to see a trend
with sports ownership.
They want people to come to a particular area of town and state,
like the Atlanta Braves up in the district area,
is what they call it.
I think it's what they call it.
That's where the bars or restaurants are,
people get there two hours of four and they just say two hours after.
You drive home drunk from Katie or wherever?
It's not a good idea.
I think it's 15 miles from downtown.
Where Atlanta's ballpark is.
Okay.
Well, what about in Houston, though?
It'd have to be further.
Or spread out over here.
Oh, that's great question.
See, I think we keep comparing these other cities.
It's like Houston's kind of its own animal in many ways.
Yeah, I mean, I don't think you can get fit within 50 miles.
You still be in Harris County.
I mean, I don't think who's a more passionate sports city, Atlanta or Houston?
college Atlanta
Pro month's same
I'm going Atlanta
They get 50 people for their MLS team
Yeah but they're bored
I know you're making soccer jokes
But be serious
There's 50,000 people going to their MLS games
Falcons fan
Who has a more dedicated fan base
Falcons or Texans?
I see I mean
It's a different town
Yeah you're probably right
Probably right
So what is our American cop then
Do we have another city that's like us
Giant, spread out, not extremely passionate for sports.
Phoenix?
Okay.
Hot.
Dry.
I don't know.
Where are the arenas and the stadiums all in Phoenix?
Well, the football teams in Glendale way far away.
The arena is in downtown, and so is the baseball stadium.
But Phoenix has a better downtown than we do.
Hell, everybody's got a better downtown than we do.
It's sad.
Very spread out.
And that's the news, it new?
Thank you, Matt.
No, thank you.
you did most of the heavy lifting.
That's true.
All right.
713, 212.12.
713.
212.
5790.
9-4 stories coming up
a little over an hour
from now.
I'm going to bug out
about 1 o'clock.
So I want you to
talk to Ross
between 1 and 2.
Okay.
Should be Chris Gordy.
And please don't make
any attempts
to take jabs at me
while I'm gone
because I'll be listening.
I won't do that.
If you're going to do it,
do it after 1.30.
I try to make it a point
not to bring you up
when you're out. All right, me. But sometimes, you know,
Clinton or Gorty
or me. It depends. It's basically
Yeah, if somebody brings up a BG's song, then
it's low-hanging fruit, though. Just try to
do the show. Yeah. You want me to keep a track of the list of the songs I listen to
today? No. All right, I was going to do it for you.
Okay, sure, why not? I thought you said you're going to be listening
here. No, I'm going to be, I'll probably put the, I'll put the headphones on
and I will fall asleep. Okay.
I'll be falling asleep to how deep is your love?
Hmm, it's a great jam.
Beechies, by the way,
Mm, spectacular.
What's the beegees?
Okay, we don't need you to comment.
If you don't know what things are, go look them up on Google.
I don't know what to look up.
You don't know what the BGs are?
Very famous 1970s.
You've heard some BGs.
You've heard staying alive.
You've heard, um, maybe not how deep is your love?
How deep is your love?
Night fever?
That's crazy.
Night fever you've definitely heard.
I've heard that, yeah.
Jive talking.
Look at me.
He's like, he's like going into an area.
he's never been before. He's like he's like in a library.
You're educating him. You know staying alive, right?
Yeah, I didn't know they saw these songs.
Okay, here. Here, play this. I just put it in there.
Yeah, this gets people going, Matt.
Let me tell you something.
Young Love in 1977.
Love this song.
Ramp it up for us, Matt.
This is when you did couples dance.
This, my friends are the one only, the beeches.
I think I just want to hit post for like two hours.
You can't clip that.
Her name is Post?
No.
The song post.
The songpost.
Stop.
Yeah, crank this up.
Turn this up.
This is better than draft talk.
Yeah.
I want you to go.
How are you like it is Jonathan?
You taking your girl out tonight, Jonathan?
What's your girl's name again?
Ivana.
Ivana?
Yvana.
to listen to me very carefully.
John's going to put this song on tonight,
and he has one mission, one mission only,
to give you a backrope.
You don't, no, I wouldn't do that.
You're not giving your girl a back rub?
I'll be stuck for 30 minutes doing that.
Oh, you're giving up 30 minutes of your life
to give your girl a back rub.
You do it, Matt? If you do it, then I do it.
You want me to give your girl a backrope for 30 minutes?
We haven't met yet. I mean, I would do it, but it's...
You're going to start cramping up.
Not cramping up.
The hand cramping.
I can't go 30 minutes.
No, you can't.
You're right.
30, last time in 30 minutes?
Are we still talking about backcrubs?
Yeah.
How deep is your love, Ross?
I want to go download 10 BG songs.
I want you to come back and Monday we're going to play a bunch of them.
These guys are amazing, actually.
I'm not going to lie.
Thank you very much.
I don't know why I'm having to defend the BG's to you.
You don't have to defend them.
He just didn't know them.
Yeah, he's discovering, Matt.
It's not defense.
Nobody's being attacked.
So once a week.
We're going to give you a new artist.
I mean, an old artist.
Okay, yeah, it's true.
With like three quarters of the members dead.
Well, in this case, it's two-thirds.
Actually, three-quarter, the three-of-the-four brothers are dead.
But Andy was never part of the band, so.
Oh, okay.
Andy could play can sing things too.
Oh, really?
What's he up to?
He's in the dirt.
Oh, which one's alive?
I'm sorry.
Barry's the only one's alive.
Okay.
Morris and...
Barry was the main one, though, right?
Barry's the main one. He's the falsetto one, yeah.
Okay. He also was quite a duet singer back in the day with Barbara Streisand.
Really? Yeah. I had that song on my phone too.
Barry Gibb and Barbara Streisand. That's a match made in Matt Thomas Heaven.
Oh my God. The song called Guilty?
Fantastic.
All right, back to sports.
Gosh, you're always trying to get me off on the other game.
You know what? It's any of that goes Friday. I do want to apologize.
People want to talk about the Astros Royal Series? Come on now.
Okay. I'm sorry.
Hayden Wisnowski back on the hell,
when's Hunter Brown pitching against him?
Remember last time the Hunter Brown was in Kansas City?
He got sheltered.
He got his revenge.
He pitches on Sunday as well.
He had a really good game against him last year as a revenge game.
In Houston, though, right?
Yeah.
He'll be back 1-10 Sunday.
Okay.
Versus the Royals.
6-10, this is a 6-40, then a 6-10 than a 1-10 this weekend.
Okay.
6-40, 6-10.
No, 6-40, 6-10, 1-10.
Mm-hmm.
Okay.
Wesneski, Valdez, Brown.
That sounds like a, that sounds like a,
series, Victor to me, pal.
It's also something like a law firm.
Wisniewski, Valdez and Brown?
Yeah, good.
Thank you for calling with Saski, Valdez and Brown.
Now you have to direct your call?
Yes.
I'm being bullied by my co-host.
You need legal assistance.
I do.
I actually.
All right.
Suing you for harassment.
Let's go to a hit line number two because I can't hit it.
Let's talk to Brian and Pearland at 1227.
Brian, thanks for waiting and good afternoon.
Good afternoon, guys.
Matt, safe travels to the city of Angels and hope that.
I'm not going to L.A. I'm going to San Francisco.
Well, wherever.
That's the city of devils.
No, no joke.
Anyway, no, I
was looking at the list that Wessler put out.
Yeah, I mean, trading down to 34,
I don't think that was a bad idea.
I honestly think they were maybe prepared to take
Matthew Golden, and then when
Green Bay took him,
just since you probably won't have tank
Dells for 90% of this year, if he does
return at all.
and I think once Green Bay took them
I think they're like, okay, let's just see if we can get
out of this spot and go from there.
But one other thing, guys,
you may not be aware of this weekend.
A&M tries to get the revenge
against their former baseball coach.
Judas is scary.
I meant, sorry, Jim Slossnagle.
By the way, the defending D of the year, by the way.
Exactly.
And well earned, by the way.
But A&M, winning.
into Tennessee a couple weeks ago
knocked off the number one team
swept South Carolina a couple weeks ago
with nine runs in the ninth inning
with two grand slams
and then went into Arkansas last week
and knocked off the number two teams
so it should be a great series
even though ANM isn't ranked Texas
number one there's so much to play
for so those three games are all on TV
so I will be going back and forth
between the draft and that over the next couple of days
because they will all be televised
and yeah, it should be interesting.
I'm hearing about a thousand A&M fans and bought tickets or so.
Roughly, that's the number for the dumbest baseball field in America that has all turf,
including in the sliding bases.
And basically buy off the NCAA to host Super Regionals back in the day.
Oh, my God.
Uh-huh.
A bunch of whiners.
But, yeah, should be a good series.
And, yeah, enjoy the show, guys.
Matt said travels.
Thank you, Brian.
And bring it back.
Thank you for our friends.
appreciate it. By the way, the other
member of the Bee Gees has passed is Robin.
Robin and Morris were twins.
Okay. Andy was the youngest
of the four brothers. He also died, but he had a
solo career. Yeah. And he was the one
with the web feet. He was also
dated Victoria Principal back in the day.
Okay. And that was
quite a quest.
You know what I'm saying.
A conquest.
Are you vested into A&M, Texas
baseball? I'll keep an eye on it.
normally around like
regionals and super regional is real honest look
I mean well my son is I don't invest highly
into my middle one is all in
college baseball but he is uh he's got his
pitch pork out right now for the former
is he going to Austin no but he's going to root from
college station yeah SEC network
and then for Friday and then ESPN 2
for the for the Saturday Sunday games
you know what that's it's as good as it gets I mean
the Astros will be playing you got the draft
kind of you can put the background I mean
I look for someone that doesn't have a dog in a fight
I love anything A&M versus Texas.
I just do.
Yeah, and as I mentioned,
Longhorn's ace, Jared Spencer,
out for the rest of the season.
He's going to have shoulder surgery on Monday.
Lots of praise to him.
Unfortunately.
For the number one team in the country
and also the team with the most college world series appearances of all time.
Congratulations.
Yeah, Jim Schlossnagle upgraded programs,
and now he's doing great and thriving with the Longhorns.
And he was a bull-faced liar and an a hole.
And then he's great.
He was a little bit rude to a student reporter.
No, no, no, no, no, no.
It wasn't a little bit rude.
It was a little bit rude.
No.
It's not like he called out his entire family or something.
He was the D of the Year and he'll always be the D.
That's an overreaction.
No, it will not be.
And treating a college reporter poorly doesn't make you D of the year.
But he basically said, I can't believe you asked me that question.
And then he took the job the next day.
And he met Del Conte at a cemetery.
Yeah, Kim Mulkey gets mad at reporters, too.
She's a D.
She's a D. She's a D. She's a female D.
Mike Shusefsky was bullying
student reporters back
in the day. Nick Sabin, too.
You know a long place you don't get bullied
as a student reporter at University of Houston?
Thank you very much. Because, well, the journalism
department's lacking. We treat people politely
there. It was a low volume of
output. I don't know. Jim Nance
would disagree with you.
Matt Thomas.
Go ahead. Tom Jeryl.
Robert Flores.
Robert. Whatever.
Kevin Ashenfelder.
Rothel on some respect
You can follow sports,
empty and you can talk
Joseph Duarte was complaining
about something with the journalism
We were all complaining about it
Yeah
It's my like other schools
Like Syracuse
In Arizona State,
other schools
They involve their alumni
Involving any of their kids involved
U of H's has
knows where I've been for 20 years
And they've never reached out
I'm sorry man
How does that make you feel?
It feels like they were being
Or act like a C-minus
A communication school
That's what has to make me
What's the name of the school?
A valentie school
Jack Valenti was a part
of Academy Awards
Hey,
Jackie Valente.
No, you're not Jackie Valentine.
Just plain Jack.
That's what I call him.
He's friends, but you're not a friend with him.
He's dead, too.
Oh.
Yeah, so shame on you, Volanty School of Education.
What are they going to call it the Nantz School?
They should call it the Thomas School of Education.
For who?
Me.
Justin Thomas or somebody?
No, long-term success in Houston.
Nance, what, National.
I kept it here.
I kept it local.
That's not good enough to get a whole school named after you, man.
What's the matter with you over there?
What's the amount of you over there?
What's going to cost you more.
that. Get the school named after you? You need
at least a milly. I was going to say, I could do 30 G's. I can't do
a milly. We're going to save up.
Maybe I'll get like a laboratory with an audio studio, the Matt Thomas audio studio.
Yeah, we could get that.
All right, work on it. 1233. This is a Matt Thomas show with Ross. 713-212-5-790.
How do I expend my wife? I need $30,000 to University of Houston.
You know what? Screw them. They know where I am. I'll give them free help. I'll teach a class
for free. You will? Sure.
You're going to want money.
I know you.
You're probably right.
Let's, uh, I can't do anything for any more.
My time's too valuable.
Let's, uh, talk about big city wings.
All right.
Retaliation sometimes happens in life, sports, Harvey.
I have a simple question for you.
If we, the really sweet, lovable people of Houston, Texas said FU Dremont,
who's getting the FU treatment in San Francisco this weekend?
Let me give you the nominees.
Okay.
Dylan.
Two favorites.
Dylan.
Yes. A man?
Yes, those are the two.
E-May.
I think probably a men because these ridiculous idiots in this fan base
think that he intentionally hurt Jimmy Butler.
So I think if I had to choose, normally it would be Dylan Brooks' heavy favorite,
but I'm going to go with Amin Thompson.
Are the Golden State Warriors fan base for a team that has enjoyed as much success,
as stupid as I think they are?
I mean, look, I don't, please, when I tell you this,
this is not meant for the masses.
but we still have some really dumb Astro fans.
And I don't want to say we've got a lot of them,
but we do have some.
Rockets fans?
No.
Texans fans are just, what do you call it,
when you,
don't live in reality.
Delusional?
Illusional.
Rocket fans, I'm just looking to get some more Rocket fans.
I need that fan base to get back up.
Have you seen Rockets Twitter?
Well, but they think they're,
They think that Alpi's done no wrong and the challenge to be traded tomorrow.
And Cam Whitmore is an all-star in the May King.
Right. Right.
But I mean, I think we have to be fair and balance here.
Golden State fan, four is they've won four titles,
are completely 100% delusional.
They see a different game than everybody else in the other 29 NBA City see.
And they especially think that Steph Curry doesn't get calls.
And they especially think that Draymond Green.
is being targeted.
It could not be further from the truth.
And thankfully, the Tim Langlars of the world
and some other folks over the last 24 hours
called them out on it.
Good. Because they are delusional.
Delusional.
Delusional is the word of the day.
Delugional is the word of the day.
713-212-5-790.
7-1-3-212-5-790.
James and Alvin on the Matt Thomas show.
Ross. James, thanks for waiting and good afternoon.
Oh, good afternoon, Matt.
Thank you for accepting my call.
You gentlemen putting on a good show today.
I have a trade proposal.
I'm playing GM for the Astros.
I'm from a Valdez, Josh Hader, to the Boston Red Sox for two prospects,
Marcelo Myers and Roman Anthony.
And do the Boston Red Sox take a bite on that?
You're trading Josh Hader away?
Yeah, he only picked him.
12 innings, he's making $95 million.
I don't think the pay justify the
the quality, the quantity of performance that he's putting out there.
I mean, that's a lot to pay for a closer,
and he may pitch, and he may not pitch, depending on the way the game come out.
He's seven for seven and save opportunities, and you've won, what, 12, 13 games?
He's basically saved half of your games and he's got an ERA under one.
That's really why I'm asking would Boston take a bite on that?
No.
Why not?
Because first of all, the Astros don't need to be making any moves.
They think they're going to win the division.
They're not going to trade Verme Valdez unless the season is over with.
And Josh Hader is having a remarkably successful season and they feel at this point that's money well spent.
And you said Roman Anthony and who?
Marcello Myers.
He's blocked.
He's blocked down there in Boston.
He's a second basement shortstop.
But he's blocked down in Boston.
Up there in Boston.
Yeah, that's not happening.
Yeah, Roman Anthony is the second best prospect in baseball.
No, I'm sorry.
This is not happening.
Marcelo Meyer is number 11 right now with...
The Red Sox wouldn't do the deal.
The Red Sox wouldn't even do this.
They would laugh in your face, James, and hang up on you.
I guess the Astros would probably do this deal.
You go, what you say, Matt?
You're going to hang up on it?
No, I said the Red Sox would hang up on you.
James, Ross thinks you're the worst caller in the history of the world.
That's not true, James.
But the Red Sox would hang up on you.
The Red Sox would be like, no thanks.
Well, I remember just a thought.
I would think financially that would be right up the Astros Alley.
they have two legitimate bona fide prospects that, you know, they can have for the next five years.
You're not, you're not given that you're not, you got two 12 top 12 prospects.
You're not giving the Red Sox enough.
You're giving them.
Ah, ha.
I didn't you said Framber two.
Oh, well, damn.
Oh, no.
You didn't hear my question.
Yeah, you said Fromber and Hater?
Yes.
No, Frumber's a rental.
going to walk anyway.
So why would the Red Sox want to give up a top 12 prospect for that guy is going to walk in the end of the year?
They want to win.
Don't the Astros want to win?
Don't they want to win?
Well, they don't put a lot of money on the table.
It's just like they feel like they got a better hand than Astros.
The cards are in Boston favor to go to the World Series.
You don't think so?
No, James, James.
James, we thank you very much.
We love when you call.
We appreciate you, James.
Your call's a little goofy at times, but we still love you.
Make sure we don't hide that fact.
We do enjoy your visits on the show.
That's not going to happen.
The Red Sox, first of all, don't want to give up top tens prospects for anything.
Secondly, they don't need a high-level dollar closer and a pitcher who's going to be a rental in two months.
That will conclude a prosperous trade conversation today on the show.
Thank you for the call.
Thank you.
We love you, James.
We're going to go to California next.
Southern California. By the way, I'm going to give you the definitive
old school
San Francisco song.
I want to say
not during Woodstock but around
that time of the movie, you know Jenny the whore.
You don't got to call her that.
Okay, the slut.
Okay, see, again, that's worse.
Well, I don't know which is worse.
It's the truth. The Warriors
play this song as the guys warm up, but it's an
up-tempo version of it. Okay. It's a
remix. So I'm trying, I was going to have Jonathan trying to find the remix. We didn't have time for it. But there is an uptempo version of this song.
I'm sticking with my left my heart in San Francisco. I don't think you're wrong. I'm just telling you that's the song. I hear it every time I go to Golden State. Okay. So. All right. So they're going to say, F you Amen or Amen.
Yeah. They're going to go amen, aren't they? They don't even know who a man Thompson is. I don't know. Dylan works too. Dylan. E. May. It all fits.
What if I say tween?
What do you mean, twin?
F you twin.
They're not going to say that, Matt.
Well, according to everybody's twin at some point.
Yes, that is true.
We always talk about this.
We don't have a definitive Houston song, right?
We have Houston by Larry Gatlin, right?
But that song is so old.
This one's too, but.
Yeah, I would say, still tipping by Mike Jones and Slim Thug and Paul Wall.
That's our official Houston song.
The definitive Houston song.
Okay.
If you want to go a little more at school,
You might go want to be a baller.
Shot caller.
Mm-hmm.
Okay.
How about Jonathan?
Oh, I was going to say Forrest Gump.
You know, you sound like shmown and shmano.
You throw trivia out of them.
I was going to say that.
Well, they'd say it then.
I wasn't going to eat in the mic.
Yeah.
But I appreciate it.
There's at least one of us doing that.
Oh, my God.
Call me out like that on Friday.
Let's go from Northern California.
You guys are terrible.
You see the abuse I take on this show?
You know what?
I'm sorry.
You're not.
I'll give you a hug.
That was an hour ago.
I'm sorry, man.
I just want to say you're mega talented and funny, and I love working with you.
And modest.
Yes.
All right.
Let's go to Manuel on 7 on Emanuel.
Good afternoon.
Hey, guys.
You guys are awesome.
I just love your banter back and forth.
The Braves are in Cobb County.
That's where the Braves are.
It's a suburb of Atlanta, like Northwest.
But I know anything goes Friday.
So I wanted to call in, and I'm sorry.
a part, but I was busy at work.
So I want to say real quick, I am sorry to Draymond Green's kids for telling his father, telling their father how we feel about them.
From the bottom of our heart, using explicitives that I'm pretty sure they have heard worse at their own home.
Correct.
So really then, I'm sorry, not sorry.
Go Rockets.
And I can't wait to taste the salty tears of a warrior fans.
You guys have a good weekend.
sorry. I'm sorry.
Good. Is that a brand new, sorry?
Keep going, Jonathan. We'll get you trained
eventually here. By the way, a friend of the show
Hans listening to us in Denver on the Iheart radio
app says, it was during the
scene when Jenny gets back on the bus from D.C.
and shows Forrest the P-Sign.
Yeah, I just couldn't remember.
I mean, I've seen that movie a billion times. Love them.
One of my all-time faves.
Yeah, I would say one of the great uses of
intertwining music of the age
within the narrative of the film as well. And John
Leach, who's listening to us on Columbus City, we have so many
people listen to us outside of Houston. It makes me so
happy. It's great. Maybe we should
more Houston listeners. We need some more Houston listeners. Can you
tell some people about Houston? Tell
five of your friends, your closest friends.
So listen to the Matt Thomas show
with Ross. Oh, we get the remix.
He just sent me the remix of Sound San Francisco.
Let's play before I get out of here. Oh, man.
All right, I'm going to send this really quick to
stop. Shut up. It's not anything goes far.
You won't break down the Texan draft. You won't
cuss and discuss a Texan draft. They didn't
draft anybody. We can't cuss and discuss it then.
I'm going to share this to
Let's see copy
I'm going to send us to Jonathan
Here comes the remix
And we're going to grade this remix
All right I'm going to send you one second
Ross talk for 10 seconds
So I can send this here
Make sure you follow Matt
At SportsMT on Twitter
And you can also follow me
On my Instagram
I'm trying to build up my Instagram
At Sports RV
I did see one of your reels
today I was very happy with you on that
I'm trying
Taking a bunch of videos
During I'm going to be honest guys
Sales staff wants us to have
As many followers as possible
I don't really like using Instagram, but I'm trying to use it.
So if you want to follow Sports RV to do me a favor, I'd appreciate it.
That's not really an endorsement there.
I'd really.
All right.
So here comes the next.
I'm sorry, great content.
This is hilarious.
Turn it up.
This is good.
Let's get you going, Matt.
Matt's swinging his hips and I don't know how to react.
I'm very uncomfortable in here, folks.
All of a sudden, I'm about to start dry heaving.
Paris.
Is this real?
I hope you.
I just want to just sent you, right?
Yeah.
Baghdad.
Baghdad.
Here's a global D-Js.
This is not what I anticipated.
What does this pick up?
Me too.
How many is it got?
Sixteen million.
Look at that.
16 million views.
Oh, here we go.
There it is.
Turn it up.
Oh, the original's better than this crap.
I have to get the version from the Warriors.
This is not what I was anticipating.
This isn't it?
No.
Because this sounds like this kid's not like he's 11 years old singing.
No, it's the same Mario.
It's just it's all you altered.
No, no, no.
I got to get you the version.
I got to get you the version.
Okay.
I don't trust your ears.
It's a jam.
It really is.
All right.
Hey, please call Ross.
And if you think you've got nothing else to provide in your life,
If you want to make fun of me, that's fine.
And remember, we'll have to talk about you.
I'll be listening.
No, Chris Cordial come in here.
We'll get some actual draft breakdown coming up.
You know, he can probably bring more material on the show that I brought you today.
Well, there's no doubt of that.
I'll talk to you on Rockets Radio tomorrow and Monday from San Francisco.
I will talk to flowers in my hair.
All right.
I will, well, I'm not going to San Francisco, but I'll be doing pre-imposed for you, Matt.
All right, and I'll be calling you and listening.
Will you?
No.

Hour number four of the Matt Thomas show.
with Ross without Matt Thomas.
He ducks out early.
He will be traveling with the Houston Rockets.
Games number three and four coming up as they will be taking on the Golden State Warriors
with or without Jimmy Butler.
That remains to be seen.
So Matt is out and Chris Gordy is gracious enough to hang out.
We do have, by the way, I don't know if I warned you on this, Gordy.
Non-Florida stories coming up at 1.30.
So you want to have just a non-1.
Florida story ready. Ross, I'm just ready
that in five hours we're going to hear.
The Houston Texans are now on the clock.
And they have traded back yet again.
Nick Casario, picking up some more marginal draft
capital for moving back.
I was just talking to Cole Thompson out there. He was
reminding me, the Texans, they have
two seconds and three-thirds,
but no fourth and no fifth.
Yes. So, I'm kind of like
being in that spot. But what
does that scream? Oh, you know what? We'll trade back.
We'll trade back? No.
back? No, that screams you can take five good
players and guys who can be impact players
and possibly starters in the top
100. Remember, he came from New England
where it's all about stockpiling? Yes.
So he's going to go, oh, you'll give me next year's second
or next year's third and fourth? Let's do it.
Yeah, but he's also traded up before.
We've seen that before. Didn't he trade up
for Kenyon Green? By the way,
and of course traded up for the Will
Andrews slash
C.J. Shroud, whichever order you want to put that in
as far as a trade up. So we've seen that
before if there's somebody that they really like, and I think he's
done in the third and fourth as well that traded up for some guys.
So to me, it's kind of interesting that, yeah, you are going to try to stock pile value,
but I think it is Nick Casario bot.
I am a robot.
Robot says we pick up more value, more players, more picks.
And so.
Yeah, I mean, Ross, we could do any number of things.
You know, we could trade up if there's a guy really like.
We could stay put.
If there's a guy really like, we could trade down.
I mean, there's plenty of options.
Yeah.
The thing in the NFL draft, which we want to do is when I'm a lot of.
make sure that you're flexible as possible.
Okay? And the end goal is always
to improve the team. Now, if we feel like trading
up is going to improve the team, feel like staying where we
are, or maybe even trading back. It's going to improve
the team. That becomes the goal when
it comes to team building and the draft.
It's all about the player, the value. If you're
the player, then the player is valuable.
Look, I'm going to tell you, our board's probably
a lot smaller than a lot of other team's boards.
And so if we see somebody we like
and we see an opportunity, we're going to jump
at it. We've had a lot of conversations.
You should have done Casario Automobile.
Yeah, we should have.
Yeah, our board's small this year.
We actually only have five guys on our big boards.
Yeah.
You think he's like that?
He's like breaking up with his girlfriend.
Look, we did a lot of valuating,
and we really appreciate the time that you put in.
But I think for best to everyone,
as far as value of my time moving forward,
we're just going to have to go in separate directions.
Yeah, I don't think he has feelings or emotions.
I think he's just, hey, I'm divorcing you.
Okay, that's your decision.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah, that's fine.
It's Cassario Bot.
That's who he is.
So, yeah, like, at the end of the day,
as you were talking about earlier
when you're on the show, it's not exciting that he traded
back, but I'm okay with it. You got a lot of
the top 100 picks. Go out there and get some guys.
You can get contributors in the
second and third rounds.
It's not like they were at the top of the first round anyways.
I imagine there were some guys.
Who did you mention Aaron Wilson? They said they had
on their radar that they didn't, they got
drafted before him.
The Ohio State kid.
It was the guard from Ohio
State whose name is escaping me right now.
But yeah. So.
Don, don't.
Donovan something.
Donovan something or other.
Donovan Jackson.
What a strong name that is.
Donovan Jackson was scooped up.
I thought maybe if Emeka Buka
or Matthew Golden
had slipped down to them, they would possibly get into that mix.
The guys that they thought might be around.
Kelvin Banks, they really liked.
What, ninth?
The Saints said we really, really like him too.
Tyler Booker from Alabama, they liked.
Went 12th to the Cowboys.
That was way higher than people were projecting.
Gray Zabel, the guard from North Dakota State, they, you know, supposedly liked.
He went 18th to the Seahawks.
Yeah, Mecca O'Bucah went 19th.
A few weeks ago, there were Mocksonated to Beka O'Booka in the second round.
Yeah, same thing for Matthew Gold.
Matthew Gold.
I felt like it went up and down as the...
I guess what?
Is he going to be the heir apparent to Mike Evans there in Tampa?
I don't...
Maybe more of a slot guy, so probably not in that way, but maybe more of a Chris Godwin's
heir apparent.
The other move I didn't like Amari and Hampton going 22 overall.
Look, he was fine at North Carolina.
He was one of the better running backs production-wise.
I just never saw him and went first round running back right there.
Like, that just feels extreme to me.
And they just signed Nasi Harris' offseason.
Yeah, but Nizhi Harris is Nogh, but he's like, okay, so you're going to take this guy in the first round?
Yeah, pretty interesting.
He better be Bejan Robinson.
And Gentie going, well, he should, Gentie needs to be Bejohn Robinson.
and he was six.
Where did Bijong go
like fifth or fourth or somewhere?
Yeah, it was top ten as well.
So clearly a little bit of value.
And people talked about this as being a really good running back draft.
So that's shown so far.
Trayvian Henderson, the top of the guy.
They have nobody to compliment Joe Mixing.
Yeah.
Honestly, what if they, yeah, what if that happened?
What if they ended up taking Trayvion on Harrison 34th?
I like the other one.
I like Quinn John Jenkins, me personally.
but if you're looking for
the guy I know they love
and Aaron Wilson confirmed this again this morning
Jaden Blue from Texas
Yes
It could be later in the draft
Yeah he'll be probably a third or fourth
But they don't have a fourth
So maybe one of their thirds
But he's a guy that
They need a guy who can catch the ball
Out of the backfield
Yeah I like Jaden Blue
But speed
I think he does have speed
But he's not very strong
Not necessarily a great blocker
But you're talking about a third round guy
I mean a third
Yeah you're not going to have a complete
back taking in the draft at that point.
All these Texas guys going off the board, quite the
contradiction to the Tom Herman years.
Yeah.
Yes, it's a different era right now and the team has made the playoffs
back-to-back years and I think there are three first-round picks
ties a record for them from like 1980 or something like that.
They didn't go like multiple years without a first-round pick?
Yeah, we don't have to talk about that.
I think they went one year without like a draft pick at all.
Jeez.
It was the Charlie Strong Tom Herman years quite lean.
Things are a little bit different under Coach Sark.
Charlie Strong wasn't stuck in the cover of the talent.
Well, it was most of the criminals that Mac Brown led on the team.
And then Charlie Strong had kick him all off the squad.
And then Tom Herman was bringing in big recruits but going,
all right, I need to check your urine color.
He's like, why are Charlie Strong's there?
Like, why are we getting RICO charges on the whole squad right now?
We got to clean this up, Mac.
Mac, well, I forgot.
I thought they were all brilliant, fine young men.
I wasn't paying attention at all.
What I love about that is everybody had Charlie's back at the moment.
Like, yeah, yeah, Charlie.
And then when you don't win football games,
fans jump off very quickly.
It's the same thing with the Tennessee thing right now.
Everybody's like, yeah, Josh Hypole, get rid of Nico.
He sucks ass.
And then when they go six and six, they're going to be like, man,
Heipal's on the hot spot.
He sucks.
A bit of a different era.
Yeah, well,
anyways.
Sometimes you deal with the-
Why you got to bring up the dark times?
Sometimes you deal with the players' red flags.
No, this will be addressed to see what happens tonight
because, you know, with the Texans having the second pick tonight,
it goes Browns, Texans, Titans,
Browns.
So the Browns have two of the first four picks.
Surely they're going to,
take Chador Sanders with one of those, right?
They don't have a quarterback.
I wonder how much more Shadur Sanders is going to slide.
That'll be definitely one of the...
What's Deshaun doing? Is he out this year?
I think he ripped his Achilles.
Isn't he out for the year?
Sean who?
Deshawn Watson.
Yeah.
Didn't he hear himself?
They're paying him a fortune that you can't get out.
Remember fully guaranteed?
Yeah, well, they restructured his deal.
I don't know exactly what they did, but they had to do some restructuring and they did.
I don't know what he's getting paid now.
I don't know what it is as far as the full guarantees
or just a lot of that was turned into bonus or whatever.
It's a crap ton of money he got, though.
Yeah, he's doing quite well for himself.
He's going to end up being one of the worst contracts in NFL history, if not number one.
What a fall.
Like, that's a Netflix or ESPN 30 for 30.
Yeah.
Deshawn Watson comes here.
He gets everybody excited.
He's the face of the franchise, great quarterback.
And then it all fizzles out with some massages and Jack Easterby.
So he did.
He did.
he retore his right Achilles.
How do you re-tear an Achilles?
I thought once it's torn, it's torn.
That's what I thought to.
Well, no, he had one repaired, and the new one got...
I thought it used to be, wouldn't Kobe like he busts his Achilles?
I know you get an ACL from a cadaver.
Do they do that with the Achilles tendon as well?
I don't know.
Or they just bolt it up?
I have no idea.
I don't know what they do with an Achilles tendon repair, but whatever the new one was, it got torn.
All I know is an athlete, you don't come back from a second.
That thing is not multiple times, especially for somebody like,
now, you know, it's not like he was a running quarterback like Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson,
but a lot of the plays that were made by Deshawn Watson, his legs were hugely helpful.
It's not like he was just sitting back in the pocket and picking people apart all game long.
Yeah, the Brown's depth chart right now is Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Deshawn Watson.
Watson's out.
So I'm sorry.
If you're a Browns fan,
you can not go to next year
with Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett.
Get my guy Shador,
Showtime Sanders in there
and let's ride.
Dog pound.
Okay.
We'll see what happens.
We've got a quick basketball nugget for you
the way out.
Go ahead.
U of H.
Who did they lost in the championship
back in the 80s, right?
To, yes, NC State.
Yes.
Jim Valvano and the boys?
Terence Arsenao.
Enter the transfer portal.
Terence Arsinoe has announced
he will transfer to NC State.
And they just got, who they got,
Wade, yeah.
Well, Wade's through.
Well, Wagesoneman's going, it's legal now, baby.
He's putting some work in there, yeah.
And I believe Arsenae is from Louisiana, right?
So there was probably ties there with what Wade being in Louisiana.
Perhaps.
NLSU.
Arsenal, yeah, it works ties in with a Tens Arsano now, baby.
Come on up to North Carolina.
Like it.
Okay.
Thank you.
They might make the tournament next year, but U of H.
might be right back in the final four again.
Well, we're focused.
We're locked in on the Rockets here, Gordy.
That's what we're doing.
We're talking about NBA playoffs and the Rockets and action tomorrow.
And that's what I'm talking about with you.
We've got to get a quick break here.
No updates, for the most part, at least that I've seen, on Jimmy Butler's status for Saturday.
Rockets and Warriors game number three, 730 Saturday on ABC.
a 630
Rockets launch pad on our sister station news radio
740 KTRH. This time of year
you're looking for Astros, you're looking for rockets
740 or 790.
Odds are very great that they
will be at least on
one of those. So Jimmy Butler
if he does miss time, it will obviously
be an opportunity for the rockets
to capitalize and get
a victory on the road. But I was
kind of talking about this, or we were
talking about this with Matt earlier. I think it could be
a different whistle for the rockets.
in Golden State for game number three.
You were able to, honestly,
Steph Curry was getting mugged and clutched and grabbed
and rockets were getting physical
and a lot of things were let go and it is playoff basketball,
but it wouldn't shock me at all if it's a different whistle
coming in San Francisco in game three.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, Warriors are getting all the calls this next game.
I just feel that way.
What did you make of the,
because I've had people outsiders text me
that they think,
They think Almond Thompson is a dirty player and they thought that was dirty.
No, they're idiots.
They're undercut Jimmy Butler.
Well, they're not paying attention.
They're Golden State Warriors.
Tim Legler was calling them out on Twitter yesterday.
You had some other people calling them out.
If you look at that play and you have a brain in your head,
and especially in the under the basket angle,
Amman Thompson was pushed, number one, pushed by Draymond Green.
Number two, tripped a little bit on Stephen Adams.
And number three, his eyes are up the whole time.
and Jimmy Butler comes in there flying
like a bat out of hell
and it was kind of a little bit overzealous from Jimmy Butler
and unfortunately, Amin Thompson trips in that moment
and undercuts him, so it was not on purpose.
Here's what Tim Legler had to say about that.
I think.
Paging Tim Legler.
No, I thought we had it.
What did you see going on there?
Oh, okay.
Is this Steve Kerr or who is this?
Is this Steve Kerr? Who is this?
in a dirty player because of that.
Yeah, I mean, it's obvious it wasn't intentional.
You look at all the bodies in between
and him getting bumped and tripped in.
Oh, okay.
I'm sorry.
You know, fall in somebody face first on purpose.
You saw some things happen last night
in the Memphis game and things are intentional
of guys are playing hard and get tripped up
something like that so we don't even talk about it
or stock in it.
But I can see that's pretty clear.
It's not an intentional thing.
It's obviously not.
dirty player. There's a difference between
aggressive physical and play. All right, you can cut this. This is
kind of hard. This is a little too hard to understand.
That's, I think I just saw this post. I was 30
minutes ago. E. May was asked about the narrative.
I had a miscommunication with Jonathan.
I mentioned Tim Legler, and I thought
we were going to go to that. But anyways, either way.
Well, I was asking him to search for two,
the Dylan Brooks just spoke a few minutes
ago, and he was asked about
Aman Thompson being a dirty player. Do we want to hear that?
Sure, why not?
All right, here's Dylan Brooks.
No, I think
the dirty players, Draymond, giving a little push as regular basketball players do.
Jimmy's fine in the air for a rebound and that stuff happens.
You know, a man's not a dirty player.
He has no anything to do with being a dirty player.
And, you know, we're not worried about that.
We're on the next game and we hope Jimmy can get better.
Now on to the next game, hope Jimmy can get better.
Yeah, he mentioned it.
pushes him into there.
Yeah.
So I mean...
Dylan was also asked about the bleep you,
Dremont chance.
He said, I liked it.
It was good.
I liked it too, Dylan.
It was good.
But no, look,
it's not a dirty play.
Tim Legger talked about it.
Other people are talking about it.
If you have a brain in your head
and you take off your home relasses
and you watch what happened there,
Amin Thompson does not
launch himself in a Jimmy Butler,
and he's not even looking at him.
He's looking at the basketball.
I had a buddy.
He's like,
he went hot.
His shoulders, he didn't lower his shoulders, he kept them high to intentionally.
I was like, do you know how split second that happens?
Yeah, that's another thing.
It's not like he sees it and then just jumps and dives into his legs.
This is a thing too.
And then this happens when we're talking about like roughing the passers or defensive penalties or targeting or whatever.
When you slow it down.
When you go frame by frame and you're Zapruder filming this like the JFK assassination, you're like, look, he had 30 seconds to make a decision.
No, play it in real speed.
He has no time to react.
to what Jimmy Butler is doing.
When you slow it down, you go, oh, see, he knew he was in the air,
and he said, let me go under him, and I'm going to upend him.
Yeah, for three frames.
Yeah, it's like running at 32 frames per second or something.
So really, it was like 0.1 seconds.
Also, that happens a lot in the NBA.
A guy gets upended, and 9-10 times the guy just gets up and walks off.
Jimmy Butler just happened to land right on the spot of his pelvis.
Yeah, it was deeply bruised.
It was an unfortunate play.
It was, I mean, look, I mean, Thompson does have a bit.
of a reputation for, you know, chucking
Tyler Hero around and throwing
elbows of guys and stuff like that.
I thought he was faking it at first because that's what's
been, I mean, unfortunately that's what the
NBA's come to now. Like Draymond the other
night when he fell, he was like, ah!
And it's like, get up.
LeBron James rolls around for six
seconds, yeah. It's just so. It happens.
You got to sell it. I get it, but my
God, like this, we need to send
we need to send a referees to acting
school to check when a guy's
acting and when he's not. Well, that's the thing, too.
make a game changing call because the guy flops or sells hard contact.
Right.
And they get those calls.
And then people are like, oh, well, why aren't they finding them for flopping?
Well, they didn't see the flop.
They are buying into what the players are selling.
Right.
That's how all of this, that's how the problem starts.
So it's going to be chippy, man.
It's going to be really chippy.
We knew it was going to be like this.
We knew it was going to be a physical series.
The rockets aren't going to back down.
My only worry was that Dremel would actually injure somebody before there was some kind of
fracas or whatever.
before anybody could come in and correct him and body slam him down.
So that's still my only worry,
especially if the Rockets start winning this series.
And Dremont, he's just got a screw loose.
He's unpredictable.
You never know what he's going to do.
So so far he's been kind of chucking people around and pushing and shoving.
Nothing major has happened.
And thankfully, nobody's got poked in the eye yet.
Well, you see, too, there was a video making around to the internet
where it's a reverse angle and you see Dremont.
And he, like, the guys like, see,
There's no push.
There's no push because that was the whole thing in the moment.
He throws his hip into him.
Dramon is boxing out, yes, and then backs up, like, pushes all of his force from his backside into him.
He goes to.
So, yes, there's no shove with arms.
No, he's trying to boxing.
But he's pushing him with his body.
He's pushing him in boxing.
Yeah, exactly.
So, I mean.
But again, idiots on the internet are like, there's no shove.
There's no shove.
And then some moron.
Did you see the one that made the rounds of, it was EMAped up coming out of commercial?
where he says like they're not calling anything
so keep playing hard.
This idiot Warriors fan put the caption,
see he's saying this about Steph Curry,
keep hitting him, keep hurting him.
And like, oh my God, like,
are you a man, if you watch the clip,
you clearly tell he's talking about the refs
are not making calls on them.
Right.
Keep playing through it.
Don't worry about trying to argue for the files.
Like, just trying to hurt Curry.
Like, get out of here.
Yeah, Warriors fans are idiots.
Oh, my God.
I forgot.
Oh, yeah, because it's all casuals, right?
they came out of the woodworks because there's a dynasty.
They were Kobe fans and then Kobe, yeah, retired basically or got towards the end and they're like,
oh, now we're all warriors fans.
What pissed me off.
We're seeing the other, in games one and two, Houstonian kids wearing the Warriors jerseys.
Like, I get, you're a fan of the player, but when you live in Houston, like, I'm sorry.
Get on, you're a Rockets fan.
You can cheer for Steph Curry in your own time, but like, it's a playoff series.
Oh, my God.
I just saw
All right, we got to talk about this
when we come back.
Tennessee Titans.
Warren Moon.
Are you serious?
Hey, it's called a radio tease.
You ruined it.
Come on, Gordy.
This is programmer 101 here.
They don't know what it's about.
All right, we'll talk about that when we come back.
Dan Warren Moon signed with the Titans.
We've also got non-Florida stories
coming up next here on the Matt Thomas show
with Ross without Matt Thomas.
We find interesting stories
that occur outside.
the state of Florida
and share them with the people.
It's time for non-
It is that time of the week
where we do some non-flora stories.
Quick payoff on the tease, though,
from last segment.
The Tennessee Titans
have surprised
Cam Ward as he was introduced
to Titans media in Nashville
with an appearance from
Tennessee Titans legend
Warren Moon
Chris Cordy.
Yes.
Hugging Cam Ward,
awarding him in number one jersey.
Yeah, who could forget
all the great moments
Warren Mood had
as Tennessee Titans' quarterback
and they labeled the tweet
passing the torch.
I mean, come on.
Passing the torch.
As Aron, Adam Lexler said,
Torch comes all the way from Houston.
Ward will pass moon on the all-time list in games played as a Titan
when he gets to one as he jocks onto the field this fall for the first time.
I get it.
Our buddy Sean Jones used to come in here all the time and say we were a team,
we were players without a team because the franchise moved
and we were Oilers and we supported them and Houston didn't have a team.
So our dedication went to the oils.
The history went with the Oilers.
but I get that
but it's also stupid
to keep acknowledging it like it's their own
like it's stupid
yeah I mean wearing the uniforms or whatever
I get it at throwbacks
but having Warren Moon show up
I say this that is bizarre
New Orleans woke up
when New Orleans was trying to
when they got the Hornets
when they moved from Charlotte to New Orleans
it was like two years in
and they were trying to do stuff
they're like honoring legendary Hornet
they're like this is stupid
this guy never pulled
This guy played in Charlotte.
He never played in New Orleans.
So they even wised up to it.
Like, let's give the history back to Charlotte.
And the Charlotte Bobcats became the Charlotte Hornets again.
And the New Orleans became the Pelicans and they created their own history.
That's what you need to do here.
Like stop celebrating Oilers like they played in National Tennessee.
Yeah, why don't they bring back in a legend, an actual Titans quarterback legend like Billy Volick?
He was pretty good for a while.
Marcus Marriota.
I mean, is Tannihil their best quarterback in history?
Who has the big?
their best
Vince Young went to
a couple of pro bowls
as injury replacement.
Steve McNair, of course,
but, you know, he's dead.
Is Tannahill even in the,
where is he now?
I don't know where Ryan Tannahill is.
Quit football?
It looks like he's out of football.
I'm wishing him the best.
But yeah, ridiculous.
Sorry, it anyways.
He's a pretty good receiver.
None of Florida stories.
I, for one, love Florida stories,
but Matt Thomas hates them
because he thinks they're low-hanging fruit.
So we do non-Florida stories
on Fridays.
I will go ahead and start things off,
where unfortunately, anger has erupted inside St. Peter's Basilica, of course, in the Vatican City with the passing of Pope Francis.
Mourners are permitted to approach the casket and to grieve and pray,
but many people have expressed anger with the things that have been handled with the passing of the Pope.
They're upset.
Everyone's taking selfies.
some people even using selfie sticks to capture the moment of grieving for the Pope.
What's wrong with people?
So people are showing up to the Vatican City and St. Peter's Basilica.
And while grieving for the Pope taking selfies and officials in Vatican City
and people and mourners and commentators from around the world are very upset
that everyone is just taking this opportunity to get a selfie with the people.
the dead pope.
I just, that's one of those things you tell people, you know how I was there when the Pope
when the Pope died.
You want to see my selfie?
You know what nobody's ever going to go prove it.
Hey, well, let me see the selfie of you and the dead Pope.
The line of mourners stretching for at least eight hours.
Pilgrims traveling from around the world to grieve phones a dominant present.
It's in the crowd.
Many holding them aloft to get pictures of the Pope, even with their selfie.
sticks.
And that's my non-flora story.
That's your non-floor story.
You want me to go next?
Yeah, I sure.
Why don't you?
You go.
All right.
Well, you know the old...
Oh, you said him?
You know, you Gordy.
I'm sorry.
Oh, okay.
Well, you know the old story?
The boogie man's under my bed?
Yes.
Well, it became a real thing.
I saw this.
For one Kansas family this week,
a child's complaint led to a man's arrest.
A babysitter told authorities
she was getting the kids ready for bed
when one of the child
children complained about a monster
under their bed. Her
efforts to reassure them otherwise
did not quite go as planned. When the victim
attempted to show the child, there's
nothing under your bed, Sally.
She came face to face with a male suspect
who was hiding under the bed. Oh my God.
An altercation ensued
with the babysitter on one child
was knocked over in the struggle.
The suspect is a 27-year-old man
who once lived at the residence.
but was under a protection from abuse order that required him to stay away from the property.
That'll make you check under your bed every night.
Go ahead and put a check on there.
That's beyond disturbing.
There might be a man laying under your bed.
Good God.
That little girl is traumatized for life.
Yeah, I'm traumatized hearing that.
Man, you can be scared for the rest of your life.
I'll believe anything that kid says for the rest of her life.
Suspect fled the scene before deputies arrived.
He was spotted in the area after a short foot pursuit.
He was taken in a custody.
charged with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, child endangerment, so on and so forth.
Jesus.
Everybody's okay, though?
Yeah, this is another similar story in D.C. years ago, a hospital valet was sentenced to more than three years in prison for stalking a hospital employee.
He allegedly made copies of her keys, snuck a video camera into her dresser, and hid under her bed for two nights before being discovered.
cheese.
Check the closet.
Yeah, you should.
All right, what do you got, Jonathan?
All right, I got a story out of New Hampshire.
The woman Khalid Tedford arrested at 23 on February 21st for urinating on a variety of grocery products in a monadook, Monouk Food Co-op.
They discovered that her odd hobbies goes back at least four years.
NBC News reported that Tedford.
Tentadetard, Tadetford,
produce and other items to tune of
$1,500 for the groceries and cleanup.
Then police found online videos
dating back to 2021
depicting Tedford in multiple
locations, relieving herself on
produce, surfaces,
and other objects. She was
charged with felony criminal mission.
Oh, my God. And released on her own
recognition. So she would be
able to pill in the public
until April 7th when she's next
due for court. That's why, when you're picking
up fruit ross, you don't just look at it, you smell it too. I don't smell. Well, you got to
actually, it's good to smell pineapples. You could smell pineapple juice. That means it's a good
juicy one. Oh, okay. What does it smells like urine? Then yeah, probably put that one back,
or at least wash it off. All right. Thank you. Appreciate it. You know what? I got one more
real quick that I saw that was kind of funny. M-A-S-N. That is the TV network that carries the
Baltimore Orioles. They do what a lot of teams are doing, and I want to
honestly wish they would do here in Houston.
They are adding a subscription
that does not require cable or satellite
and no blackouts for
8999.
Sounds good. Get you all your Baltimore
Orioles baseball you can handle.
One quick problem is people were signing up
and they were getting charged
$8,99.
They forgot to put
the decimal point in there.
Some
people saying, thankfully my bank did not
allow this charge. Other people saying they did get charged $8,999.
Obviously, M-A-S-N, as they're calling it M-A-S-N Plus, is working in the folks to resolve this issue.
But multiple people charge almost $9,000 rather than $90 to watch Baltimore Orioles baseball.
Who do you think I got fired?
Somebody had to get fired.
It's literally, you cannot do that.
No decimal point?
Well, the bigger question, how many bank accounts went overdrawn?
Yeah.
I mean, that's true.
Is everybody in here got $9,000?
I do not have $9,000 in my checking account.
I will be honest.
All right.
Huh.
There you go.
And that's some non-Flority stories here, folks, on Sports Talk 790.
We're going to take a quick break here on the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Matt is out.
He is traveling with the Houston Rockets.
They will be in action tomorrow against the,
against the Kansas City Royals.
Also in action. I'm sorry.
The rockets are in action
tomorrow against the Warriors.
Astro is in action this weekend
against the Kansas City Royals.
Chris Gordy, what's going on at Carbock
brewing this evening, by the way?
We're having an official Astros watch party
tonight. 5.30. I'll get you started
with the on-deck show. I think they're saying
615-ish.
They'll kick off the official festivity.
640 will be the first pitch.
But come on out. Bring the family.
It'll have shooting stars, orbit,
championship trophies. Michael Bourne will be in
the house, official Astros Watch
Party over at Carbock Brewing. Out in the
beer garden. I got to say the beer garden because
a lot of people will park on the other
side and come through the restaurant and go, where's the party?
It's outside. Outside at
the beer garden. The beautiful beer garden
at Carbock Brewing. That will be tonight.
And you'll hear the pre-and-post game
here on Sports Talk 790 out at Carbock Brewing.
All right, quick break here on the Matt Thomas
show with Ross. Final segment is coming up.
You can get in if you like. A few minutes left at 713-1-2-125.
790.
147 in the PM here on
Sports Talk 790. Final segment of the Matt
Thomas show with Ross.
Appreciate
all of you hanging out.
Here on Sports
Talk 790, Matt Thomas is
out. He will be back on Monday.
Rockets in action on Saturday
and Monday in San
Francisco games 2 and 3. Will
Jimmy Butler be a part of
one or both
or none of those games? Just a
gut feeling, I would say, maybe he misses
one game, but he might try to gut through it.
Jimmy Butler is as tough as nail.
So if he plays tomorrow and isn't
at 100% still, that'll be
pretty interesting. So we'll see what happens
there. But as of
now, he's listed as a game time
decision, at least that's the last that I saw,
or a game day decision they're calling it right now
for Jimmy Butler. We'll keep an eye on those
injury reports as we go along.
Mentioned in the last segment,
Warren Moon, so
Cam Ward, the number one overall pick, quarterback hopefully of the future for the Tennessee Titans.
He's being introduced to the media there in Nashville.
And Warren Moon comes out and gifts him a number one jersey.
It's like Warren Moon never threw a pass for the Tennessee Titans.
I imagine, I guess there's some sort of appearance fee or something like this.
but this obsession with Houston, it's bizarre.
Like I said, wearing the uniforms, okay, you're the franchise,
those are the throwback uniforms, whatever.
I can kind of get that even though it's lame.
But trotting out Warren Moon to Nashville, Tennessee?
Well, he wore number one.
So he's passing the torch.
But he wore number one in Houston.
He didn't throw a single pass for the Tennessee Titans.
For the Oilers organization, he wore number one,
and he will pass on number one to the new number one.
for the Oilers slash Titans organization
with all of their rich history involved.
Yeah, they may have played in another little city
called Houston or something, but it's the organization,
the pride, the tradition, the history.
I mean, this is just a farce.
I mean, how do Tennessee Titans fans?
If you're in Nashville, Tennessee.
That was one of them wearing a Oilers jersey last night.
And you're a Titans fan.
He's a Titans fan.
Yeah, those are throwback Titans.
Like, I at least get that, but I guess.
But it's like, even then,
you're like, it's stolen.
That's what it is.
Did you see Sam Phelan?
What he tweeted?
Sam Phelan, you told me.
Go ahead.
He works for A to Z sports there in Nashville, said,
Warren Moon just indicated to me that the Oilers uniforms may never return for the Titans.
That factored into his decision to allow Cam Ward to wear number one.
Because I guess it was understood.
No one can wear number one, but Warren Moon.
Moon said the Titans will have new uniforms coming out soon,
and there will be no reason to bring back Oilers uniforms.
right there. They're telling you they're going to basically put them in the, you know, in the archives and just turn the page. If they do that, Cal and Hanna need to be on the phone with Roger Goodell and go, we want them.
No, we can just leave it, dude. It was, all it was was decades of losing and disappointment and bad football. We can move on.
Forge your own legacy. They are, but you can still have that. It's, it is, the color and the logo is tied to Houston. Yeah. It is from the state.
oil derrick's in the state of Houston.
Yeah, I understand.
I understand.
You're the Houston Texans now, though.
We can try to tap into that.
And one of the reasons that you tap into that history is because you have none of your own.
Get C.J. Stroud.
Get to Miko Ryans.
Get to a Super Bowl.
Win some football games.
And you don't have to worry about, I mean, what are all your biggest best oilers memories?
Getting trashed.
Maybe the big comeback against the bills.
It's not even the history.
Having a 9,000-year-old Joe Montana coming into town with 9,000-year-old Marcus
Allen and running all over you?
The logo looks cool.
You know how much merch they would sell if they got the rights back to it?
You know what?
Money.
You could sell me that's a reason.
But other than that.
It looks cool.
They would want to wear it.
Houstonians would love to wear the oil.
Earl Campbell and the oilers falling short and getting
their ass kicked by the Steelers every year and never making it into a Super Bowl.
Cool.
That's what we're resting on, folks.
That's what we're clinging on.
You're clinging to it.
They've been clinging to it.
Tennessee's been clinging to it.
He's been clinging to it to it. You know why? Because to stick it to Houston, because that's what the Adams family wants to do. Because it makes us mad here in Houston. If we stop caring, if the Texans had won two Super Bowls by now, nobody would be talking about the Houston Oilers. We talk about it because the Texans have been so crappy and they haven't done anything on their own. I think if they're going to give it up, though, you might as well bring it back to Houston. Like I said, I get it as a marketing, money-making measure. But other than that, I love the Oilers, and I grew up an Oilers fan. I'm with everybody.
with that. Those uniforms look really
beautiful. It would just be an alternate. Those uniforms look great.
Once a year you wear them. But we got
to move on. We've moved on.
No, we haven't. You're talking about it right now.
Because it's available. Part of your history
is available. If they're going to
completely turn the page, you give it up and never wear them again,
okay, fine. Give them back to the rightful owner.
Be like New Orleans
going, sorry, Charlie, you can't have Hornets
back. Like, no, it belongs there.
The franchise most associated with losing.
I mean, that's
what it was. Wow. And they were our losing.
and I get all that.
The first 10 years of the Texans history was losing.
Exactly.
At least the Oilers got to the playoffs.
If they had a one, they'd have a bigger fan base,
and we wouldn't be talking about this oiler stuff at all.
Couldn't you say for the Titans though?
They had a pretty quick success there in Tennessee.
They should have turned the pass.
They should have, but they didn't because of the Adams family.
Did it do.
All right.
Thank you.
Let's get the real quick, Biscuit.
Go ahead.
Hey, man, I was down in Tennessee this year for the last game of season.
when they broke out all that oil and stuff.
And I'm telling you, I was talking to the fans,
they're not happy with that.
That's an Adams thing.
The fan, the Tennessee people, they was not happy.
They didn't, and they was, throughout the whole game,
they were announcing all their trivia, you know,
who was the oil that did this name?
Man, I'm telling you, those Tennessee fans,
they were not happy with it.
It's a Bud Adams, whatever the daughter's name,
they pushing that.
The Tennessee people, they wanted to be Tennessee stuff.
They don't want to have nothing to do with those Houston stuff.
It's crazy, man.
I'm telling you, they are not happy with it.
Well, whatever.
I think it's time for everybody to move on.
And yeah, again, I will say, if it's a marketing thing,
Cal McNair and Hannah, whoever would be smart to try to pick up on this stuff
because people love it.
They want to go back to it.
But me personally, I'm done.
I'm right.
And it happened a couple years ago when they broke them out and Case Keenham and the Texans beat them.
It's like, you know what?
Those uniforms look really strong.
sweet, but it's time to move on. It's time to win here in Houston with Texans gear, and I still don't even care for the name. Logo's okay, but you have to kind of forge your own legacy and build your own fan base in that way and make people nostalgic about Houston Texans football by winning some football games.
We are, but I'm just saying if they could get the oilers brand back, I'd buy one. I wouldn't. I will stand tall. I got oil or stuff that I won't even wear. I refuse to wear it anymore. I've got
Earl Campbell jersey, I got Warne Moon jerseys, I got Oilers, caps, and in shirts.
I'm not wearing them anymore.
Well, Warren Moon belongs to the Titans.
Oh, yeah.
See, exactly.
It's so ridiculous.
It's absurd.
It's stupid.
What are they doing up there?
It almost feels like, it's almost as stupid to me as like when the NCAA vacates wins.
They go, you didn't win that championship.
Like, bull, BS, I got the ticket stub to prove it.
Well, we vacated it from history.
No, you didn't.
Some of those wins are gone.
We own it.
We took them away.
No, we remember.
It happened.
It belonged there.
Take the banner down, Louisville, with Rick Patino.
Right.
And they win a championship and they had to take that down.
You know what they still called him on the tournament broadcast?
NCAA championship winner.
Yeah.
Rick Patino.
It's,
this is, to me, even worse, because there's just zero history.
You're buying borrowed history from somewhere else.
You're bringing players who never played for your team from the last city,
gone, yeah.
Or he's a legend.
Yeah, just absolutely absurd.
And, well, with that, that will do it for
the Matt Thomas show with Ross. Gordy, thanks for hanging out.
Yeah, thanks, very. Appreciate it. We'll see you at Carbock Brewing, 530 Astros on deck,
and you will have orbit, shooting stars, Astros, trophies, and stuff like that.
Thanks to Matt Thomas for hanging out for the first three hours of his show, but not the last hour of his show.
Thanks to Jonathan Allen for producing. My name is Ross v. Real. I'll talk to you after the Astros game on the 10th inning show.
Also talk to you tomorrow, but right now, I mean, you just don't go anywhere. You got one at him.
You got another at him. They call themselves the 18th.
They're coming up next year on Sports Talk 790.
Don't go anywhere.
