Nick Tutro is in Los Angeles.
He is the biggest Yankee fan we know.
He's a friend of the Matt Thomas show.
Nick, you got a couple of minutes.
Thank you for joining us.
And most importantly, thank you, Nick, for accepting the Astros apology today.
Are they personally apologizing to me or is it you, Matt?
Nikki, they're apologizing to the Yankee fans.
They made mistakes.
They broke the rules.
So I know that you're speaking on behalf of Yankee Nation by saying,
yes, we accept it.
and we can't wait for an exciting 2020 season.
Am I reading that right?
Well, I can't talk for all Yankee fans.
I do represent a certain spirit when Yankee fans.
But I would like to see the Astros as a team.
This is what I would like to see.
I'd like to see them come out, hold one press conference,
and say they're sorry.
And that's not too much to ask for, you know,
and then let's move on and let the ship fall.
It's sad that this happened.
but listen, I believe in forgiveness, second chance.
Good.
Let's face the facts, you know.
It's not a good look, man.
It's not a good look.
I really, you know, I didn't like the Astros, but I respected them.
And then you find out all this stuff.
So it's, you know, unfortunate, but they've got to get in front of it.
Don't you agree?
That's what I'm calling you today.
When you get back from the set, you're on a set of a show right now, right?
Yeah, but I mean, I mean, I haven't seen the Houston Astros, the team.
They did.
Go to Sports Center today.
When you get back to your hotel.
Oh, okay.
Here's what they said.
Hi, I'm George Springer.
I'm reaching out to Nick Totoro, the big Yankee fan who swore us on his Twitter account all the time.
I'm sorry.
They did it deliver perfectly for you, for you.
Did they say that to me on Twitter?
Well, sort of.
Not at all.
I may be lying a little bit.
Oh, come on.
Now you're stretching it.
You know, Correa and those guys, Bredgeman, I know them a little bit.
I respect them.
Okay.
I love it just here.
It doesn't have to mean me personally.
They should just apologize and say, listen, we did wrong.
You know, it's just like Pete Rose.
He had a bad situation.
He never apologized right away.
And that's why, you know, things happen to Pete and they banned them for life.
All right, well, two things.
Sometimes you've got.
I know.
Listen, I'm excited that they're doing that.
I think it's a good step.
But, you know, forgive, but don't forget, okay?
All I'm saying, yeah, I know.
All I'm saying is, do the Yankee fans owe the Astros an apology for sending Carlos
Beltrone and Brian McCann here,
who basically learned how to cheat
with the Yankees, yes or no?
No, no, no, no. Don't put that on
the Yankees. Carlos Belchon is not
even a Yankees. He played for the Yankees.
All right? He played for
the Yankees. He's a hired gun, my friend.
He's not even a true Yankee.
We don't claim Carlos Beltron.
We don't claim him. So don't put
him, and Brian McCann, he's a nice guy,
whatever. He signed free agent
and another mercenary.
Don't make those guys true Yankees.
I won't do it.
All right.
Last question.
I try to call a bunch of New York bars, and I wanted to apologize to them, and they wouldn't
take my phone call.
They tell my producer, Nick, we don't accept your apology and F off.
Is that what everybody's telling everybody in New York right now is to tell all Houston sports
radio shows?
I say a lot of New York fans, a lot of Yankee fans are angry, and I think they're still going
to be angry because they feel like they were cheated.
And any time you would cheat it, that may be a championship.
Yeah.
There's going to be hard feelings.
And I get it, man.
I get it.
I'm trying to have an open mind, but, you know, everybody's got their own point of view about this.
And I'm going to just say, hey, if they get in front of it, it'll make it a little better.
You can't change it.
It is what it is.
But, you know, we got to move on.
That's life.
But I'm glad to hear that they're taking a step at least apologizing.
Well, I want you to go home, get to the hotel tonight, look on a sports center,
and then tweet out what are your thoughts are on that.
When are we going to see you on TV next?
Pretty son.
I got something nice in the works.
So, you know, you'll hear about it.
All right, Nick.
You'll hear about it soon later.
I'm excited about the season.
Good.
Let's put this behind it.
Good.
I like to hear that.
All right.
Hey, safe travels back.
Go to Sports Center tonight.
Let us know what you think about it tomorrow, okay?
Okay, Matt.
Glad I could help.
Take care.
All right.
Nick the Turrell, the megastar, the biggest Yankee fan we know.
And a celebrity and a good friend of the Matt Thomas show here on Sports Talk 790.
I'd call in a little update on that.
