is the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
One in the AM here on Sports Talk 790.
Hello and welcome in to a Wednesday edition of the Matt Thomas show with Ross without Matt Thomas.
That's whacked down the right field line slicing.
A long run over there and that ball is gone.
Just over the wall, Johnson giving chase but had no play over the out of town scoreboard.
And Christian Walker with his fourth.
rear home run off Kyle Freeland in his third home run of the year to give the Astros a one-nothing
league.
Thought about the three with a right-hand dribble to the right elbow gets turned back by Mark Williams.
Hansen Durant, right side three coming up for him is on the way and in, and it's now a six-point
game as Durant knacks down his first three ball in the game.
4640 Phoenix.
Thompson to mid-court.
Booker in front of him.
Durant hands it back to him in.
Straight away, Katie, going to launch.
On the way, three-corner, that rattles home.
Don't make Kevin Durant angry.
You don't like him when he gets angry.
48-43.
It's a five-point game down.
Baseline left, catch, shoot.
Holiday three, front-iron, miss.
Offensive rebound, jam.
A man, Thompson.
And their rocket's a minute into the fourth quarter.
Lead, 85, 84.
Since it tell it delivers.
Ground ball softly hit up the middle.
Ranging to his left, Tovar.
Shortstop has it, throws to first, and that is the ball game.
The Colorado Rockies, when they're third in a row,
defeating the Houston Astros tonight,
five to one, Astros lose their third consecutive game.
94.
For the seventh consecutive game,
perhaps the most impressive of them all,
here in Phoenix, it's a...
Phoenix 105.
Four in the a.m. now here on Sports Talk 790 all night long.
We're going to have a party.
You had the Astros in Colorado with the late 740 start.
And how many pots of coffee did Matt Thomas had to put on to start the Rockets game?
I don't know.
I have never seen anything like that in my life.
A 10 p.m. start.
I've seen them and I've seen it on the schedule and I knew it was coming.
And we've had 9.30 starts and I'm like, that's fine.
Whatever.
But dude, that game was also, it took forever that Rockets versus Feud.
Phoenix Sun's game. And well, the Astros game didn't take forever. They weren't exactly playing all night long, but it was mountain time and then late night West Coast time for your Houston Astros and your Houston Rockets. Ashtros lose 5 to 1 to the Rockies. Rockies beat Rock. Oh, here we go. Rockettes beat the Phoenix Suns 119 to 105. All night action here on Sports Talk 790 and on our sister station, News Radio 740 KTRH.
And we're here to talk about that and much more here on the Matt Thomas show with Ross here on Sports Talk 790.
Phone lines open and available.
Let me just set the table a little bit for you.
Coming up at 1130, we have ain't nobody got time for that slash shut Joe bum ass up.
At 11 o'clock, we will also have Brian Bogussevich.
Astros will be back in action trying to salvage a game against the Colorado Rockies.
That's a sentence I didn't want to say out loud, but we can get to that in a second.
to 10 first pitch here on Sports Talk 790.
We will go into Astros on deck mode coming up at 1 o'clock.
And then in the meantime, you guys can get in as well.
You can follow me on Instagram.
I would appreciate it at SportsRV.
You can also follow and interact on the Twitterverse at SportsRV as well.
Phone lines are open and widely available for you at 713-212-5-790.
7-13-212-5-790.
We'll have Chris Gordy into the fold in the meantime as well.
And Jonathan Allen is here hanging out.
Jonathan, how much of that Rockets late night game?
Did you stay up for that?
Are you much of a late night guy in the first place?
Are you like, are you have a...
I'm more of a morning bird.
You know what I mean?
Oh, you're a morning bird.
Yeah, yeah, but I'm going to be honest.
I got 30 minutes into the game.
Saw that they were going to win and just turned it off went to be it.
You saw they were going to win.
No, you didn't see.
Now you're not.
Now you're just telling porky pies, which rhymes with lies.
That's a cockney rhyme.
I don't know why we're doing.
In my heart, deep of hearts.
It was a 24-0-0 run by the Sons in the beginning of the game.
I had no, I had no doubt.
You had no?
That's a nice save, Jonathan.
We'll let you, we'll let that one slide.
No doubt.
They were down 16 in the first quarter.
It was 24 to nothing.
And I was like, okay, maybe I'll be able to turn this bad boy off at halftime.
But then the Rockets were able to come back in the second quarter.
And Dylan Brooks and Kevin Durant were going at it.
Did you see the highlight at least?
Kevin Durant dropped Dylan Brooks.
He just completely fell on the ground.
Except for like, normally highlights are like when somebody gets a drop,
they go ahead and like slam it home.
With Kevin Durant, it's the pull-up middy.
That's just what he does.
Didn't he also tell Brooks,
my worst season is your best?
Yeah, people do the bad lip reading,
so I don't want to necessarily run with that,
but it looks like that's what was said.
I think that was cold.
Yeah, he, well, he's also right.
I mean, Dylan Brooks,
Dylan Brooks is a nice player,
and Kevin Durant had some comments post game,
which we can get to later as well,
about Dylan Brooks.
He doesn't fire me up.
I'm Kevin Durant.
Basically is what he said.
But yeah, it looked like a moment with the lip reading,
which is often wrong,
and players always dispute what people are lip reading
because a lot of times it does turn out to be wrong
or completely off base.
But it looked like Kevin Durant basically told Dylan Brooks at one point,
my worst season is better than your best season,
and he's not wrong on that.
So Kevin Durant with a pretty,
decent evening, but Amin Thompson was
flying all over the place.
He had 22 points, 11 rebounds,
and eight assists. I mean, you had
Reed Shepherd knocking down the occasional shot.
Aaron Holiday
stepping up in the rotation as well.
As we've been seeing more
from him, some productive minutes from
Tari Isan, and it was a big win.
Look, the Phoenix Suns aren't
world beaters or anything like that, but they're playing
team. You're on the road. It's supposed
to be a close game. You get your 50th win
of the season, so that was nice to see.
from the Houston Rockets last night.
If you made any time to stay up for that one,
I mean, you got to be on a different kind of work schedule.
I was able to stay up for it because, well,
I only have to be here at work,
well, a little bit before 10 to prep the show some,
but be here at 10 o'clock.
I was able to watch the entire game on NBC and Peacock.
And by the way, I don't even know who that play-by-play
what guy was, but he wasn't very good,
and I wasn't that impressed with Derek Fisher.
But I digress.
Important win for the Rockets in the meantime.
They are now the five seed with the Los Angeles Lakers, the four.
And they're tied with the Lakers after the Lakers lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
So we could still see a situation where the rockets end up with the four seed and home court advantage in the first round.
Because the Lakers have Golden State and they have Phoenix who are still jockeying for position there in the plan.
So we could see a scenario where the Rockets have home court.
I don't think they're going to catch the Denver Nuggets.
Not only are they a game behind them in the standings.
They also have the Nuggets have the tiebreaker.
Nuggets do play the Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs in their last two games,
but both of those teams might have locked up their seed.
So I don't know how much they're going to be playing their starters in those games.
So that's what we're received.
But as it stands right now, Rockets the five seed.
Minnesota Timberwell is going to be pretty much locked up into that six spot.
and we'll see what happens in the first round.
At this point, it just feels like the goal is to get to the second round
and then probably lose to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Try your best to give them a good series and then go from there.
Maybe you'll shock them.
Honestly, it's probably going to take some kind of injury or something like that.
And then you can go and face the spurs or the Nuggets or whoever in the Western Conference finals.
But right now, five spot for the Rockets.
50 win season.
That's a success.
You got no games out of Fred Van Vleet.
Stephen Adams has basically missed
half the entire season. You've had some underperformances
from some guys throughout the year as well.
But they're humming in all cylinders right now.
Seven games in a row,
your Houston Rockets have won.
On the Astros side, unfortunately,
bats quiet yesterday.
You heard the shortage of highlights to play
for the Astros coming into this one.
You got the Christian Walker,
I mean, barely poked a home run
over the right field fence
in the second.
inning and that was it
offensively for the Astros.
They weren't hardly even getting anybody on
base. I mean, Kyle Freeland was just very
good. He's basically about the
best pitcher in Rocky's history.
Six and a third innings, he only gave up one run,
struck out five,
did at one point hit Yordon Alvarez in the
back, but other than that, it was
a pretty clean outing from him and the
Astros only got three hits
in Colorado
against the Colorado Rockies
pitching staff. Three hits.
not ideal.
That's why you don't have a whole lot of runners in scoring position,
so you can't get mad about them leaving guys on base,
they didn't even get a guys on base.
Christian Walker home run.
Esoc Paratus had a hit,
and Cam Smith, I believe it was a single for both of them.
And that was that.
Offensively, not a lot to speak up for the Astros.
They're now six and six on the season.
We'll talk to Brian Bogus-evick about it coming up at 11 o'clock here on Sports Talk 790.
All right, laying out the show for you here on Sports Talk 790.
the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
We have Chris Gordy joining.
He's going to hang out for a little bit with me.
I believe up until noon.
We got the news at noon with Jonathan Allen.
The news at noon with Jonathan Allen.
He's nodding his head, so we're good.
Then we have Brian Bogosevic coming up at 11 o'clock
and squeezed in between that 1130 is going to be ain't no.
Nobody got time for that slash.
Shut your bum ass up.
And we'll go into Astros on deck mode at 1 o'clock.
So we got a busy show for you on Sports Talk 790.
you want to get in. You can. 713.
212.790 is the phone number.
713, 212.5.790.
1018 a.m. here on Sports Talk 790.
I have gotten word.
Apparently, Matt Thomas is up and moving about.
I mean, that's got to be the latest.
I guess not with the flight hours.
The flight from Phoenix isn't that long.
But we'll hear from Matt coming up in a few minutes.
He said he's going to call us at 1030.
So to agenda set for you, you have 1130.
The ain't nobody got time for that slash shut Joe bum ass up.
Heritage segment of the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
And you also have at 11 o'clock.
Brian Bogussev going to bring us some Houston Astros talk.
And then Matt Thomas going to join us in the next segment.
713-212-5790 is the phone number if you want to get in.
713-212-5-790.
So it wasn't a horrible start.
from Mike Burroughs last night, five and a third
innings, eight hits given up, but he worked
around that. Three strikeouts,
just one walk. He did give up the
three earned runs, and
it just was, to me,
a situation where we're just going to put it more
on the offense, and this is how it goes.
And this is what I want to preach to everyone.
It's like we've been doing this segment
for, I don't know, several
years where we have to do calm down
H-town, and somehow
we still continue to fall into the trap.
and myself to an extent as well,
but it's just a calm down h town
whenever there's some poor games that are happening.
Right now, the Astros have lost four out of the last five,
and it doesn't feel great,
especially when you consider the competition,
when you lose two out of three to the Oakland A's,
or sorry, Sacramento A's in Sacramento,
and then you lose the first two games of the,
the Colorado Rockies suck, okay?
They're just terrible.
They're not going to be any good.
They're going to be one of the worst teams in baseball.
There's just no way to sugarcoat that.
I get it.
but we also just have to slow down and pump the brakes.
It feels like for whatever reason, because of the day-to-day nature of baseball,
we become prisoner of the moment more of that one than any other.
There of course, absolutely, reasons for legitimate concerns,
but I'm not ready to just throw away the season.
Let's see what happens today.
I'm also going to be honest, okay.
Christian Javier, fly ball pitcher.
He's had control issues so far in his first conference.
couple of starts this season, and he's on the hill for the Astros 210 first pitch here on
Sports Talk 790. There are legitimate reasons to be concerned about the Rocket. Astros,
here we go. This is what happens when the Astros and the Rockets are playing at the same time,
and you're playing the Rockies with the Astros getting swept with Christian Javier on the mound
facing off against Michael Lorenzen. So he'd been horrible too for the Colorado Rockies.
So we'll see what happens. Oddsmakers have the Astros, a slight face.
favorites. Minus 156. Those you're not familiar with betting vernacular, that means you got to lay
$156 to win 100. So about 3 to 2, a little bit over 60% they're feeling like the Houston
Astros have the chance to win in Coors Field today. But it doesn't feel good. It doesn't make
it fun when you're 6 and 6. And you start up the season, it's been all right, two and two against the
Angels, the first couple of games, everybody had their hair on fire, then they rallied, then they
swept the Red Sox, and that felt good. Although the Red Sox are,
are looking like they just might not be a very good team.
They've only won three games all season so far.
And then Sacramento happened, but at least you had the bats.
But last night, there was just nothing.
And you have now a couple of games in a row.
You haven't gotten a hit from Yordon Alvarez.
That's 0 for 4 on Monday.
And then yesterday, even though he did get hit by a pitch, he was 0 for 3.
So 0.4 7 in his last couple games, that's okay.
He's not going to OPS for 1400 the entire season.
He's not coming for Teddy ball game and he's going to hit 400.
But it doesn't make it any easier to swallow.
Stephen O'Kirk came in and gave up a run and Kai Wei Tang did as well.
And then our old friend Christian Roa is back on the roster.
And I believe as we go week-to-week Christian rankings, I believe he has passed Christian Javier.
But Javier's got an opportunity to make a move today.
With the 2 o'clock start, Christian Javier, come on, baby.
You can do it.
713-212-5-790 is the phone number you want to get in
7-1-3-21-2-5-7-90 of course the rockets get the big win last night as well
and I wonder like where are we at on the rockets
is it just and they're going to be out in the first round and wake me up
when the playoffs happen and don't even wake me up when that happens because I don't
feel like they're championship contenders or are you enjoying the seven game
win street I'm feeling pretty good about it this is best
as is as high as I've been on them in a very long time
probably since the start of the season where early on they were in the two seat.
I know they're just in the five seed, but they've won seven games in a row.
A lot of the problems and the issues that we were having with watching this team,
I'm feeling a lot better about.
They were turning the ball over a bunch, and they did a little bit too much last night.
I think it was, let's see.
Was it 14 to 17 turnovers?
17 turnovers.
I think it was 14 in the game of that, but they've had some games where they have not been turning the
ball over as much.
And then the offense looks a lot more fluid.
And I think a big key to it is Alper and Shingoon, who did not have a great night against
the Phoenix Suns, but he's been looking a lot better.
He's been contributing.
He's looked a lot more fluid of his movement.
He's been moving around better.
The energy has looked a lot better, especially since he had those couple of games off,
where he missed with the back spasms.
And Amin Thompson has been incredible as well.
They don't win that game last night without Amin Thompson.
He was just all over the place.
six offensive rebounds for Amin Thompson,
seven offensive rebounds for Alper and Shungoon.
The second chance points were there,
and you look at the shooting percentages,
they're not exactly where you wanted them to be,
but they're playing with energy.
They're playing well.
Reed Shepard's playing well.
Gime Adoka's mixing in more guys off the bench right now.
You're seeing a smattering of Jayhontate.
You've got 21 minutes of Aaron Holiday.
Joshua Kogi getting in the mix,
because you're going to need to find something.
If you're going to win a seven-game playoff,
series. Heaven forbid, it's going to be against the Denver Nuggets, which I don't think is going to
happen right now. It's going to be the Lakers without probably Luca Donchich, Austin Reeves,
probably without him as well, as they're in a complete free fall. This is the exact spot you want
to be in, taking on the Los Angeles Lakers who have now lost three games in a row. So you want to
take care of business against them. That would be, I mean, I don't even want to say it out loud if you
don't get past the Lakers in the first round, a massive disappointment. But I'm just like
what I'm seeing out of this team to where everyone can play up to their potential.
And this is what we were looking for.
This is what we were talking about.
When we get frustrated and we're watching them lose to, I don't know, the New Orleans
Pelicans and struggle against the Chicago Bulls.
And I don't even want to talk about the all-time overtime collapse against the Minnesota
Timberwolves where they get up 13-0 in overtime.
And then they give that all up.
And everybody's all, oh, the vibes are bad.
I'm not talking about you, Jonathan, even though you did kind of say that.
but I'm talking about like Bill Simmons, national people.
The vibes are bad.
They hate each other.
This team is imploding and they're never going to win another game.
Well, vibes are a lot better when you win games.
And body language is a lot better when you win games.
And we talked about that with I made a doka.
I asked him the question last week.
Like, hey, a lot of people talking about vibes.
What's the deal?
And he said the exact same thing.
Everybody, nobody says the body language is bad when a team's won seven in a row.
And Kevin Durant's like beating his chest and high-fiving him in Thompson
and Alper and Shingoon.
Because yeah, it would be weird if they were doing all that type of stuff when they were losing.
The vibes aren't good when you give up 13 nothing leads in overtime.
Vibes aren't good for anybody.
Body language is not going to be good for anyone.
Because the flip side is, if they're all cheering and laughing, that's when people get upset.
Look at the fans who are like, oh, did you see last night?
They were down 20 and they were joking on the sideline.
They were on the bench laughing.
Can you believe this?
I was beside myself to watch the unprofessionalism of those human beings laughing when they're losing.
Or like, oh, did you see he went to the club?
They lost and he went to the club.
Yeah.
Gotta go blow some steam.
Got to go party.
Got to go have a good time.
Got to get your thoughts off the terrible losses that are happening.
So to me, it's a lose-lose situation a lot of times.
Like guys are going to get criticized bad body language when they lose or if they have good body language when they're losing, they don't care.
And of course, you know what helps body language?
You know it cures everything.
You know it helps the vibes.
Winning seven games in a row, playing a lot better, the offense playing a lot better.
And a men Thompson being great.
Tari Isson improving.
Alper and Shingoon knocking down shots.
Kevin Durant doing his thing.
And Jabari Smith, Jr., quietly, has been a big part of this resurgence for the Houston
Rockets as well.
20 points for the Rockets last night.
5 of 13 from 3.
Not great.
But he's been scoring 20 points, basically every other game.
for like about a month.
And that's been nice to see from Jabari.
Because the rockets are going to need all hands on deck.
If you're going to go up against now, the Lakers will see they're still going to have to play well because the Lakers are still a pretty good team.
They have some pieces.
It's not like they're going to be world beaters and rockets are going to be clear favorites in that series.
But if you're going to go up against and try to slay the dragon that is the Oklahoma City Thunder,
you're going to need all hands on deck.
You're going to need like a random game where Reed Shepard scores 30 or 35.
You're going to need Jabari Smith Jr. to be knocking down his threes.
Tari Isson as well.
And then, oh, by the way, you're going to need your All-Stars to show up as well.
And your guys that are supposed to carry the squad.
And that's what fell for the Rockets last year,
where Jalen Green was a no-show for six out of seven of the games in the seven-game series.
And you decided to move on to Kevin Durant.
So you just basically can't get no-shows from anybody when it comes to the playoffs.
But the potential that we have seen,
they are playing up to it now with this seven-game win streak.
It has been fun to watch.
It's a lot of people like, this is the least fun rocket season I can remember.
Well, it's a lot more fun right now.
They've won 50 games.
We're freaking spoiled.
And how's Fire Udoka guy doing?
I want to hear from Fire EMA Udoca guy right now.
713-212-5-7-90.
Worst Coast in Hitchery, no offense, won't play Reed Shepard,
doesn't know his head from his ass.
That's what I want to hear from.
All right, quick break here on the match.
Thomas show with Ross without Matt
Thomas, but in the next segment
with Matt Thomas here on Sports Talk 790.
Brian Bogusavik coming up
at 11 o'clock.
Talk some Astros baseball.
Chris Gory
has made it in.
Hey, Cory. How's it going? You know how else
has they made it in? All right, I guess we're going to get the
lowdown from
one Matthew L. Thomas
as, well, it is the Matt Thomas show
without Matt Thomas, but now
at this time with Matt Thomas. It's very
confusing, Matt. I'll be back
with you tomorrow, bright eye and bushy tail.
Not right now. You sound sleepy.
You sound like your tail is not bushy at all.
Clip that for tomorrow,
for Friday. So
yeah, we have an early flight this morning.
So needless to say,
I listen to your open. By the way, excellent
music choice. Will I don't rich. You cannot go wrong
with that. And when you
said about the coffee,
I thought I got to call Ross.
It's almost like
we know each other without even really texting or calling
each other. Remember, Ross is a terrible
texture, but I
probably had
yesterday my
all-time coffee consumption.
I might have eight cups of coffee yesterday.
Because one, the show, we did the show
yesterday, and it was 8 o'clock in the morning out here
in Phoenix, that's till noon.
Then you go, get some coffee because you just
finished the show and you're trying to stay up a little bit, work a little
bit, take a nap, and then
I think I had four cups of coffee during the game,
three before the game and one at a half time.
I'm seriously.
that's why I couldn't sleep for crap last night.
So that's why I'm up early.
Plus, we had an early flight.
And then just a bizarre old game.
So it's been a bizarre trip to Phoenix.
Very rewarding, obviously.
But I'm ready to get back in the central time zone and ready to get back in the studio with you tomorrow on Friday.
How do the players adapt to it?
Like, my whole body clock, that game tipped at 10.15 central.
Like, I just don't.
How do their bodies adjust?
They're not real humans, guys.
I mean, Gorda, I can't tell you any other way, but that.
They play this intense basketball game running at full speed for 48 minutes.
Then they'll go out and have a beverage or something to eat after,
and then they'll get up the next morning and do it all over again.
The naps are incredibly important to NBA players.
That peanut butter and jelly, I've told you guys before,
those are the two keys to NBA success.
Cappuccino machine is also good as well,
but you're right.
It's hard to fathom what they do.
And it felt like the Rockets were sleepwalking for the first quarter.
I don't think I've ever in my life called a game where one team scored 24 consecutive points.
I was like, I almost, I told my boss of the Rockets, Gretchen Shear, who may be listening.
I said, I almost got a beer at halftime because like this thing is going to be over.
But the Rockets chipped away and it wound up being a really dominating second half performance.
And I'll give you one for this, boys.
I don't know if you guys will talk about this at all.
I could give you an argument
that was maybe a man Thompson's
best game ever as a Houston rocket
Oh yeah
He was all over the place
It was awesome
He I think it's hard to appreciate
Without watching all the time
Like the little things that he'll do
Like he will on
Matt of course you know you see it
But like on an alleyup
He will catch and flip and hang in the air
And then still finish
Or the rebounds that he makes and takes
The way that he is is so athletic
and he has great bodyling
and then like he's the dexterity of his feet,
legs, everything. He's insane.
If he can develop a three-point shot down the road,
he will be a complete player.
Absolutely.
Yeah, also if Aaron Judge could stop swinging and missing,
he'd be a much more complete hitter.
Gordia, I don't think it's going to happen.
But if he could get to 30%,
I mean, he's at 22, 23.
I would take that.
It happened to Anthony Davis.
Anthony Davis couldn't shoot a three to save his life early in his career.
Okay.
I thought we just enjoyed what you just experienced.
I think his basketball IQ is high.
He's going to turn the ball over,
and, you know, for being a taller point girl, it's going to happen.
But I thought his handles last night were really good.
And frankly, an unsung hero last night's game with Aaron Holiday.
I don't think Reed Shepherd had it last night.
I think defensively he was getting beat up a little bit.
And I think EMA just had to say,
look, I've got to find somebody that can distribute
and play a little defense and be gritty and attack the basketball when necessary.
and I don't know if Aaron Holiday is going to do that on the regular come postseason,
but you need a seventh score, especially if that sixth score, is not going to do much.
And Tari, who by way played great last night.
You got good Tari last night.
Yeah, you got really good Tari, really good a man.
Kevin really struggled early on, but he came through and hit a bunch of big buckets.
Alpy was able to attack the, you know, he actually had a lot of success.
Mark Williams is a pretty physical center for them,
and he was able to push him around a little bit and get in some foul trouble.
And that is another thing.
Rockets were in foul trouble.
whole night and we're able to kind of stay off and I haven't worried about getting
too many fouls.
So I thought a very fun game last night.
What did you think of the vitriol with Dylan Brooks and that's what I was going to bring up.
How far away were you, Matt, where did they have you seated?
Too far.
Okay.
So you couldn't really kind of get too much of a feel for it?
No, but I just was like, I actually was teasing our security guy.
I said, you're going to get your steps in because, you know, if you guys notice,
every time there's any scourish, security people run to the floor as fast as possible
to separate it.
and it looks like more of a melee than it really is.
I thought the very first minute of the game with a men and was it, was it, oh, it was
Jaylon Green.
Jaylin was tugging on a men's jersey in the back corner.
I don't know if TV saw it or not, but he was literally holding him on the baseline on the other
end of the floor, but it was four and four the other direction.
I'm like, what are you doing, Janela?
That's your guy.
And so.
Before tip off, before tip off, Dylan Brooks was elbowing him in Thompson as the referee was
throwing the ball up.
I'm just going to tell you this right now.
I know DB gets in people's skin.
I love him.
You know, once he was our guy, I kind of got to know him a little bit and know how he operates.
He doesn't have the three-point shot that he had a year ago and kind of regress back to what he was as Memphis.
But for Moxie, this team needs it from Phoenix to gain confidence.
He's not going to be a big-time score for them anymore.
I know I think his numbers are good this year, but not what is never going to be, I think, the rest of his career.
But I just like what he brings as a component.
and at the end of the night,
everybody's hugging, high-fiving,
the buzzer goes off,
they're back to being bros.
I felt bad for Dylan at one point.
I was like, oh, I like him still.
I felt bad for him,
because he was taking some bad shots,
and it was helping the rocket,
so that was good.
But I kind of feel like, man, I feel bad.
I like him.
But how about this, boys?
The Jalen Green Truthers,
why did you get rid of him?
Jalen last night was Jalen the Rocket.
I mean, he just was.
He was very athletic.
He's whirling dervish,
He just moves but couldn't finish.
D3s that were clanking off the backboard.
It was not pretty for him.
He looks the part.
Everything he does, except for the ball falling into the hoop.
He just looks like a hooper.
It's crazy.
The way he moves, the way he dribbles, the stepbacks, the explosiveness.
Everything looks the part except for the ball going in the net.
Well, somebody posted his game log from last playoffs,
and it's like that's the epitome.
Was it game two with the 38?
and then the rest of the run, 8, 12, 13.
Yeah.
I'm still really, I'm going to be honest.
I'm still rooting for him.
Yeah, I am too.
He's, first of all, a really good guy.
Really, really good guy.
The reality is this.
He's going to be a high volume guy in his entire career.
And I don't know if you can build championships around guys that are going to do volume.
And that's exactly what he is.
And so is Devin Booker, for that matter.
I mean, neither one of them are efficient at all.
So if you've got two guys shooting 46 shots a game to get to 52.
points. I don't know if that's a recipe for
long-term success. Okay, Matthew.
We're going to let you go back to sleep.
No, we're leaving in 50 minutes.
Oh, you're in Phoenix still.
Oh, yeah. All right.
Cool. Well, we're going to let you sleep
on the plane.
I would like to do that. Tomorrow
10 to 2, sports stocks.
Do not go anywhere. Ross are going to entertain
a hell out of you between now and 2 o'clock
and Gordy will bring up some LSU baseball highlights
at some point. Oh, we just got SEC Media
Media Day schedule released, Matt.
Yeah, we're going through every day.
Are we going this year?
Can I finally come with you?
Who's we?
Me and you.
Let's go.
Sure.
Just give me your credit card number.
Where is it this year?
Hoover.
Tampa.
Oh, Tampa's nice.
That's a haul.
You're not driving that one, are you?
Let me tell you.
Locked on SEC, you better be picking up the tab on that one, Gordy.
How about this Thursday is the throwaway day?
That's like everybody packs up and gets out.
LSU and Texas on the last day.
this year. Oh, actually, I need
one more thing before we get you out, Matt. Your
thoughts on Diana Rossini and Mike Rable.
Are they or aren't they?
They are 100%
are they? Absolutely.
100.
Okay. Trust me.
100.
Okay, thank you. That's it.
Goodbye.
You know what? We'll talk about that.
I don't know how much we're going to talk about that, actually.
I don't want to get in too much of trouble.
It's all speculation, folks.
All right, we got Brian Buck's coming up at 11 o'clock.
If you have not heard, they were photos of Diana Rossini and Mike Vrable,
holding and interlocking hands and hanging out next to each other at a pool,
at a resort in Arizona.
So who knows what's going on there.
Anywho, now people are pulling up all these scoops that Diana Rossini has had
when Mike Vrable was with the Titans and with the Patriots.
But I digress.
All right, quick break here on the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
That was Matt Thomas.
Ryan Bogus Evans is coming up at 11 o'clock.
Phone lines are open for you at 713212-5-790.
7-13-212-5-790.
Then coming up, of course, at 1130.
It's 8. Nobody got time for that slash shut your bum ass up here on the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Breaking news here on the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
That's one.
It definitely should go at least two.
Do you see the news, Jonathan?
No, I was waiting for you.
I think it's a three.
Let's go three, folks.
Three.
Even though it is expected, especially on one front, actually was expected on both fronts.
But let's go ahead and give you the news.
Start spreading the news.
The Texans have exercised the 2027 fifth year options on the contracts of quarterback C.J.
Stroud and all pro-defensive end will.
Anderson, according to Field Yates.
Stroud now due $26 million in 2027.
Will Anderson is due $21.5 million in 2025.
Both of players, of course, also extension eligible.
So you can still work on an extension with Will Anderson and C.J. Strout.
I would definitely expect something to try to get done with Will Anderson as soon as possible,
depending on how things are moving and shaking.
But C.J. Stroud picked up for his fifth year option, as we all anticipated.
I know everybody's upset about the last two playoff games and he wasn't good.
And okay, it's probably an understatement of the year to say he wasn't good in the playoffs.
But you're going to give him another year.
You're going to give him this year and then another year after that.
And then I would imagine something will come to pass at the end of this year.
If he has another good season where he will.
wasn't great, but he was good.
You're probably going to end up seeing him for the long term here in Houston.
So I don't know how this is going to shake out.
I don't know how everybody's feeling about the potential CJ Stroud franchise quarterback
for the Houston Texans.
It's funny to say out loud because I do believe this.
You can win with C.J. Stroud as your quarterback.
You just need a great team around him.
And while they had one of the best defenses or the best defense in Texans history around him,
last year, and he threw those ball games away.
Or tried to throw the ball game away in Pittsburgh,
and he threw the ball game away literally against the New England Patriots
to where they could have very well going to the Super Bowl,
even though I still think they would have gotten destroyed by the Seattle Seahawks.
I know a lot of people got all mad at me when I was like,
yeah, they'll get waxed by the Seahawks like they did in that game.
It was a one-score game, dude.
Why don't you look at the final score?
Why don't you watch the game?
Okay, they scored a touchdown on like a Sam Darnold fumble or something like that.
Other than that, the Texans got destroyed by the Seattle Seahawks,
and that would have happened in the Super Bowl.
So maybe we can take some solace in that.
But the offensive line was bad.
There was no run game to speak of.
And Nico Collins was hurt in that game against the Patriots as well.
So he certainly had a lot of things working against him.
If you had a great run game, if you had, I mean, you have basically a Sam Darnold situation,
you could have win.
But what we're kind of finding out the way that I feel is that C.J. Stroud is
not a quarterback that is going to overcome that.
And most quarterbacks cannot.
Pat Mahomes, if you had only been watching the last couple of years, nobody would know that
he's in conversation for one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
He has looked pedestrian for a couple of years because you paid him a lot of money
and the situation has not been ideal.
So that begs the question, if you do have to pay C.J. Stroud a bunch of money and it
hampers you from building a team around him, is he ever going to be able to thrive in this
situation. I don't know. Sam Donald was able to thrive. He was making like 30-something million
a year. Baker-Mayfield winning with Tampa Bay. A lot of these reclamation projects that we're
talking about when they go somewhere else, they're in a better situation because the cap situation is
better because they're not making as much money. So it's easier to build around them. So it's
going to be baked in if you're keeping C.J. Stroud here long term that he is going to be making
55, whatever, close to $60 million. If you do it,
intend to keep him long term and that is going to hamper you from building a long term, a very
good team around him. You're going to have to hit a lot of draft picks. So I don't know.
It's interesting, but not surprising both options picked up with Will Anderson and C.J. Stroud,
Mr. Gordy. Yeah, I think the conversations need to continue about potentially working out long-term
deals. And again, I think the Will Anderson Jr. one is the no-brainer. I mean, make him
make him the highest paid young
edge rusher and let's move on.
I think the Micah Parsons deal
really, really
tilted the market.
I don't think he's going to get a Micah Parsons deal.
I think the speculation is more of like
an Aden Hutchinson deal what he got with the Lions.
Yeah.
So somewhere around this, yeah,
I would do it. I pay him whatever he wants.
Will Anderson's incredible.
Do you hold off on the Stroud extension?
Is that the easiest prospect hit
like in the last 10 years?
Everyone's like, Will Anderson's just
Basically since he walked on the campus at Alabama.
Yeah.
No, he just,
now I will say,
I mean,
there's been guys,
like the guy who followed after him,
Dallas Turner,
he's been okay.
You know,
he's been fine,
but like I thought Dallas Turner was in the same realm as Will Anderson.
But yeah,
I mean,
Will Anderson was all everything.
I mean,
just a walking sack there at Alabama
and did it against SEC competition.
You just knew it was likely to translate to this level.
Yeah.
And he's gotten better.
Like when you talked with him,
you're like, oh, this kid's hungry.
He's like, he wants to be the best.
He's humble.
Yes.
Like, he's everything you want.
Absolutely.
A whole package.
Very smart called DKR, the toughest environment he ever faced.
So he's very smart, very smart.
Family man, too.
Loves his family.
His parents are always around him.
Absolutely.
Love Will Anderson.
Lock him up for as long as possible.
The CJ Stroud one is just, it becomes interesting to me about what's going to happen.
And of course, a lot of it hinges on the,
this year. It felt like...
Well, but that's what the fifth year option gives you.
Yeah. You now have them through 2027.
And so you have this year and next year, really,
to figure it out. I would imagine
it's going to be more this year because
I don't know how much of that is guaranteed
on the fifth year option. Is it fully guaranteed?
I think it might be. It is
yeah, Stroud is due
$25.9 million in 2027.
Okay.
But you have the decision
to potentially... I mean, what if, what if you get
a season like you... This last year, he was
better in terms of a lot of
like the QBR, the
assist to turnover ratio,
touchdown to turnover ratio
like yards per attempt.
A lot of it bounced back, but
none of it got close to what it was
his first season. You know what I'll tell you
though, if you get in the second or third round of this
year's draft and there's a Garrett
Nussmeyer or somebody you really like is a
developmental, take them.
I mean, why not? You can't, you, you know.
Yeah, if you feel like there's somebody you can
try and, I'm not, I'm not
I wouldn't be opposed to that.
Because the reality is,
what's his face?
Davis Mills is not going to be here much longer.
Like, he's been a nice backup,
but, like,
he ain't going to sit on this roster
another three years
sitting as the backup to CJ Stroud.
Like, he's going to want to go
try to compete for a starting job elsewhere.
And then Graham Mertz,
six-round pick from last year,
I think,
I think that's a camp body.
How's Graham Mertz doing these days?
Well, you'll see him in the preseason,
but, I mean, he's just a camp body.
I don't think he's your development.
then will cube you the future potentially.
Yeah. All right. We'll have time to talk about this later on.
We do have to take a quick top of the hour break,
and then we will be getting to our good friend, Brian Bogus Hevick, talking all the.
You know what? Brian Bogusavik break down the fifth year option for C.J.
Stroud coming up. Okay, maybe he's going to talk some baseball.
All right. We'll get to that coming up later on the show.
We also have Ain't Nobody got time for that slash shut Joe bum ass up to get to as well.
This is the Matt Thomas show.
with Ross.
Hour number two of the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Again, without Matt Thomas,
traveling with the Houston Rockets.
He will be getting in the air shortly as they are coming back from a late,
late night game in Phoenix.
Chris Gordy is here hanging out.
And right now we had Brian Bogusevich hanging out on Monday.
And we're going to double dip and we're going to have him on a regular spot here on
Wednesday at 11 o'clock.
Brian, I hope you don't mind us using you twice in one week.
and also we brought up your numbers in Colorado at Coors Field.
They could have used you last night in the lineup.
Yeah, it's the weirdest thing, isn't it?
You got a team that's tearing the cover off the ball thinking,
all right, now we're going to Colorado.
It's going to get even better, and then they put up one last night.
Yeah, can't explain it.
Yeah, only three hits last night.
What did you see overall from the bats as they had the 5 to 1 loss?
You know, it was the first time really all season that they looked,
I guess over aggressive.
Now a lot of that had to do with the Rocky
starter, Kyle Freeland. He was
pretty locked in. He didn't make any mistakes.
Everything was on the edge. It kind of forced them to have
to go after pitchers pitches.
But if you just look at the pitch
count, 107 pitches it took
for the Rockies pitchers to get through nine innings.
There's a lot of quickouts, a lot of pitchers
pitches early in the count
that they went after. So it was
really the first time where we saw
the patience kind of waver a little bit.
It's crazy, Brian.
the numbers and I mean they're their top five in almost every offensive statistical category which is
great that's what we you know this team was missing last year but to be second to last in baseball
in ERA in team ERA of 574 how much of that do you chalk up to playing games in Sacramento and
Colorado and how much of this is just the bullpen not being great so far and some of your starting
rotation not being locked down yet yeah I don't
think it has to do with the elements. I think it has to do with the performance and the
execution. I mean, if you look at the games in Colorado and even going back to Sacramento, it's
mistake pitches that are getting hit, you know, pitches that are supposed to be down in a way
that get yanked up and in. That was a home run that was given up last night. You've got the
walk number is just at a level that's completely unsustainable. So you're confident that it'll
that it'll level out eventually because a lot of these guys have track records.
of throwing strikes at a better rate.
But no, it's definitely been a performance thing, and it's not just, all right,
let's get out of Colorado and everything will be all right,
because it was an issue before they even went out on the road.
Brian Bogusevich with us here on Sports Talk 790.
Just the three starts in.
What did you see from Mike Burroughs last night that you liked and that he can improve on?
Well, I like the fact that the stuff, the off-speed stuff, definitely
plays when it's executed. Everything that he threw, all the curveball slider changeup mix that he used
and he used a lot of them. When he got it down, he got out. He got ground balls. He got swings
and misses. It definitely plays. It's just not quite as sharp as it was in spring training.
There were still too many that hung up in the zone. There were still too many that kind of got
pulled out of the zone and got it behind and counts. So, you know, I like the stuff overall.
I think he's working through some mechanical things that is affecting the pitch quality and the location quality.
But, you know, it's definitely a guy who's got all of the necessary weapons.
It's just kind of tightening it up a little bit at this point.
You mentioned on Monday about pitching in a course field and how – can you explain that again about how it affects spin and stuff like that?
And then if you're a pitcher, no matter who you are on the Astro side and you're not going to be at home at Coors Field,
what do you take from your outings at that ballpark?
Well, what you don't take is thinking that your breaking ball,
there's something wrong with it, and you have to fix it up
because the balls don't spin the same way, right?
Putting spin on a baseball creates friction against the air,
which causes the ball to move.
And when you're trying to throw a breaking ball,
that's what causes a curve ball to drop
is the friction of the spin of the baseball against the air.
Well, when you're playing in thinner air,
there's less friction, and the ball doesn't break as much.
It's one of the reasons why you see off-speed pitches hang up in the zone.
It's one of the reasons why sinkers don't sink as much as they normally do.
But, you know, everybody's playing in the same element, so you've got to figure it out.
But, no, I don't think you take anything from all my fliders not breaking as big as it was.
When I last pitched at home, I've got to fix something.
Those aren't the adjustments that you make based off of an outing in Colorado.
us. What did you make in the news with Hunter Brown? And I mean, look, it's early in the season,
but, you know, I've had people saying, what can you do here? I mean, what can you do other than you
got to ride with who you got and you just kind of got to deal with it, right?
Yeah, no, I mean, there's no, hey, let's go, let's go out on the market and find a top five
style young finisher that that's not going to be available. So, you know, this is why you build
pitching debts in your organization is because you're going to need it. You're going to
have to replace guys, guys get hurt. The problem is when it's the top guy, you can't actually
replace him, right? All you can do is fill his spot in the rotation and hope to kind of fill
the void other ways. You know, first, that starts with everybody in the rotation in the bullpen
pitching a little bit better. That would go a long way. But, you know, it's really going to fall
a lot on the offense right now when you're trying to, trying to get guys who, you know, you've got
a starter in Imi who's still getting used to Major League Baseball.
You've got some young guys trying to fill in a role.
So the offense is going to have to carry it for a while,
and they've done that for the most part.
But it's going to be a collective effort of everybody kind of turning it up a little bit
to try to cover for Hunter, which is an impossible task.
It always seems like since Joe Spot has been the manager,
he's gotten like the kitchen sink thrown at him with underperformances or injuries last
and stuff like that.
I mean, if you could, Brian, like put yourself in his shoes.
Like, how are you feeling about this pitching staff to where Hunter Brown is down,
a lot of under performances with the starting rotation?
And you got Javier going today in altitude as well.
I guess you just kind of have to hope and pray that especially the starters can hold it down.
Yeah, it's frustrating to say the least.
I mean, you know, it seems like you're always dealing with something.
You probably sitting there thinking, gosh, I wish I could just get through a couple of weeks of not having to deal with something.
But if you look around the league, everybody deals with this stuff.
There's plenty of pitchers who've gotten hurt already to start the year.
There's plenty of position players who are off to really slow starts that they're trying to fight through.
So nobody's going to feel sorry for you.
But, you know, you just try to keep the message consistent of we have to play all around baseball.
You know, it can't just be all offense and trying to cover for, you know, a month stretch of just outscoring.
people. You've got to start playing better in all phases and playing more consistently
well-rounded baseball to at least, you know, give yourself a chance every day.
What's been great to see, you know, obviously we talk about a lot of the offense has been
clicking so far. And, you know, Yorda and Alvarez named the American League player
the week for last week. But to me, I mean, it's just been so impressive to see Christian
Walker look like the guy that they originally tried to sign from Arizona.
whoever that guy was last year.
I don't know who that was,
but how much of you enjoyed seeing this version of Christian Walker,
the guy that they thought they were getting, you know, when they signed him?
It's been great.
And to be honest, this version is even if it was this version that they thought they were signing,
he'd got a heck of a lot more money than he did,
because this is incredible, the hot streak that he's been on.
He just looks comfortable, you know, from a hitting standpoint,
he looks comfortable with his mechanics.
He's getting to the ball a little bit easier.
It doesn't look like he's trying to form.
force backspeed or force getting to velocity and overswinging a little bit.
And he just looks comfortable in his role in the offense, comfortable being in his surroundings.
And we talked about this on our show the other day a little bit.
At no point last year was the offense ever doing anything like they're doing right now,
where there's so many guys swinging it well where you have, you know, Yordan just out of his mind.
You have El Tuvay going and just kind of a one through nine, everybody really putting together good at back.
And as much pressure as there is on a guy, you sign a free agent contract and you're on a new team,
there's also pressure on a guy when, hey, you're one of a handful of guys that we can, you know,
we think can produce and help us win on any given day.
So that pressure is off too, and it's just more about having a quality at that and being one of many in a lineup
instead of having to be the guy.
So it just looks like he just looks a lot more settled this year.
And sticking with the hitting, Cam Smith also had one of the hits and that huge bomb on Monday.
What was it? Like 462 feet. Just your overall thoughts on how much of this is a change in approach or just what you're seeing from Cam Smith at the plate?
He's getting his bat through the zone more efficiently than he did last year.
I think it has to do. In spring training, started to notice a little bit of a difference in his setup.
his load. He's starting a little bit earlier and getting back a little bit further before he
comes forward. And it's allowing him to get his bat into the zone a little bit more efficiently,
which is allowing it to get out in front a little bit more, a little more quickly. Some of the
swings that he's taken this year, he didn't take at any point last year, even when he was swinging
really well in spring training, even when he was on hot streaks at various points, the ease at which
he's getting to velocity, hitting the ball out front. He's taking, you know, A plus swings on
97, 98 mile an hour fastballs at the top of the zone, whereas last year, he was often kind of just
fighting for his life to try to get a piece and fight off high velocity. So he's put himself
in better positions physically to get off his best swing. And when he does that, you know,
similar to what we saw from Jeremy Payne over the course of a couple of seasons, the more
consistently he puts himself in good positions, there's no limit on his potential physically.
He's so big. He's so strong. He's got such a good swing.
It's just about being in position to consistently get that swing off.
And right now, he's doing it almost every at that.
All right, there you go.
Brian Bogussevick with us here on Sports Talk 790.
Brian, appreciate time.
And let's go ahead and salvage a win in Colorado today.
Yeah, not something that we thought we would be talking about is trying to steal one in Colorado.
Yeah, I know.
You know what?
Actually, one more before we get you out.
Just Javier.
What do you need to see from him today?
Strikes. Just strike. That is, I mean, there are, there are many things that we need to see from him, but number one being in the strike zone more. It's just been too many free pets. He's got more walks than any pitch right now. That's not doable.
All right. Thanks a lot. Brian Bogusevic. We will talk to you next week. Appreciate time both Monday and today.
All right. See you up. All right. There you go. Brian Bogusevic here on Sports Talk 790. You want to react to anything he had to say about the Astros. You can do it. 713.
2125790 is the phone number.
713, 2125, 790.
We get the news at noon coming up at noon,
and then also at 1130.
Ain't nobody got time for that slash,
shut your bum ass up.
That is coming up here on the Matt Thomas show with Ross here on Sports Talk 790.
All right, I think we need breaking news sounder again.
I would say this is significant.
Let's give it another one. Why not?
You're going to be stocked at the news at noon, Jonathan.
Go ahead, Mr. Gordy.
I think this was already kind of out there.
Okay, I hadn't heard it before.
Matt, because they started putting in new seating.
I saw that.
At Toyota Center.
Yeah, those old red seats were nasty.
They're actually kind of comfy because you're sinking to us.
All right.
They're not like, I was we went to a game a few weeks ago, and I was like, you know what?
Yeah.
I do feel like I'm sunken into this chair, but it's kind of comfy.
I don't always sink into someone's ass groove from 2004.
No, I don't like it.
Get some new seats out there.
You know what sucks, though?
And it's something so small, but it's inconvenient.
Is no cup holders on those old seats.
Apparently the new ones will have cup holders.
No, I thought they did have cup holders.
No, they did.
The section I sat in, I had to put my beer on the floor.
Oh, it depends on where you were.
Were you in the 400s?
No, we were in the, like, behind the rim.
But I had to put my beer on the floor on the ground.
No, they definitely had them in the club seating, because I've been stealing.
Okay.
Well, anyway, the New York.
seats are, have a couple holders.
Anyway, this is from Matt Young, Houston Chronicle.
Toyota Center, Home TV, Houston
Rockets will be getting $180 million upgrade
and no cost to Houston taxpayers.
Mayor John Whitmire said Wednesday.
The Houston County, Houston Sports Authority is expected to make
an announcement official this afternoon,
but Mayor Whitmire said
$95 million of the renovations
will come from the state with Rockets owner
Tillman for Tito,
footing the rest of the bill.
So there you go.
All right. Thank you, Tillman.
Big time renovations.
A bit of a need of renovation.
Yeah.
It's not like it's an old, but it's a little, some of it's a little outdated.
They redid the screen recently.
The screen looks amazing.
They do a lot of stuff with the in-game experience, as they call it.
We had Gretchen Cher on, well, we've had her a couple times, but preseason at Media Day talking about that.
And I guess I'm just too much of a pragmatist because I'm like, hey, what do you need all these bells and whistles for?
Whatever.
Like, who cares about the screen?
Who cares about this and that?
But when you go there and there's like the lights are better and the screen is better, it does certainly add to the experience.
So I don't know what the hell I'm talking about because I'm just like one of those basic people that just needs like a milk crate to sit on in the living room and watch the TV.
I just I'm not that big on amenities and stuff like that.
That's just perhaps a fault of mine.
This says Toyota Center is in need of more than $635 million in maintenance over the next 20 years.
How much?
$635 million.
over the next 20 years.
Okay.
That's according to an independent study commission last summer
by the Harris County Sports Houston Sports Authority.
Some of that maintenance is ongoing, including replacing all 17,000 seats,
which is being done section by section throughout the current NBA season,
and it's expected to be completed by this summer.
Other renovations in recent years include a $30 million overhaul
that upgraded the club area, new dining facilities,
a new roof, LED boards, and a huge scoreboard over mid-court.
Now, it doesn't say it in here,
but I will add that shoots out smoke like a rocket.
Yeah, they finally get that working last year.
It took them a long time.
That's cool.
They were testing it.
Toyota Center will be a hub of activity in the coming years, along with the rockets.
The WMBA's Houston Comets will return in 2027.
The arena will also host the 28 Republican National Convention, as well as its busy concerts.
Is that true?
There's also the possibility for Tita eventually will land an NHL team.
They're hosting the RNC.
I thought they tried to do those at bigger stadiums.
or something like that. Am I wrong?
Am I? That's why they're putting upgrades in for
Toyota Center. We only hold 18K
at the Toyota Center. Trump spoke
there on his first campaign trail.
And it'll be, I guess,
J.D. Vance, he's the chalk pick?
I have no idea. Okay.
Let's let things play out.
But yeah, that's
so that's kind of cool. Like I said,
we did see that they were upgrading the seats
and all that, but yeah,
look, you got to keep up with the Joneses, right?
I mean, everybody's got constantly upgrading new facilities and all that stuff.
But, I mean, I think I've only been to a handful of NBA arenas.
I think Toyota is pretty good.
Like, even the uppers are not bad seats.
You can see the whole court.
I agree.
I mean, I think it's pretty good.
Yeah, get that bad boy updated.
And, I mean, they loved host concerts and stuff there, too.
So it's going to help all of it.
Are we getting like a hockey team or anything like that as well?
I don't know.
All right, 713-212-5-790 is the phone number if you'd like to get.
get in 713-212-5-790 talking with Brian Bogusevic about the Astros in the last segment.
How are we feeling?
Christian Javier on the Hill, 210 first pitch.
We're going to go into on-deck mode coming up at 1 o'clock.
We'll have the news at noon coming up at noon.
And we have ain't nobody got time for that slash shut your bum ass up coming up in the next segment.
So that's good this year.
The Rockets are getting some things refurbished and redone.
Like I said, I don't know.
It's like a personal flaw of mine.
I'm just basic.
I show up here every day, Jonathan,
in my sweatpants.
I'm just a simple man.
And I don't like a lot of frills.
I don't need a whole lot of extra amenities and stuff like that.
So I would be the worst operator of multiple things.
I'd be the worst operator of a restaurant
because I would just get like these basic fold-up chairs.
And then I would be the worst owner of like an arena or something like that.
I know.
Play-out chairs for a restaurant?
Yeah, just fold-
Just sit down.
It's all right.
We don't need all this fancy stuff because I would
I'd be like, all this stuff is how much?
Yeah, just give me the fault.
You know what?
They can stand.
It's fine.
Just get some wooden benches like a barbecue joint.
What's wrong with that?
I guess the job done.
Oh, solid oak is going to be how much?
Oh, forget it.
All right, anyways, Astros in action today.
Bats were quiet yesterday.
Five to one, they lost to the Colorado Rockies.
You got the home run from Christian Walker.
And then you just got a couple of other hits.
and then it was just a whole lot of bubkus.
And Kyle Freeland, look, we got to get Kyle Freeland as props.
All right.
I know he's not necessarily a household name basically anywhere,
but he's been really good, considering how long he's been in Colorado.
And the fact that, okay, his ERAs have been inflated over the years as well,
he still can go up there and pitch a little bit.
And he's actually been one of the best pitchers in their history.
We had the believe it or not a couple of days ago.
And it was like, who was it, Jorge Delarosa?
We had never even heard of who was like the all time pitching,
war leader in Colorado.
So you got shut down, unfortunately, by Kyle Freeland.
You're going to try to bounce back today.
But I've still been encouraged overall.
It's just about the pitching.
And as we were talking about with Brian Bogussevich in the last segment, like imagine
you're Joe Espada.
And the first year you had everybody just underperforming.
They got off to that horrible start.
And then, of course, you have these fans who think they know everything and their God's
gift to baseball, basketball, and football.
Somehow, depending on whatever season it is,
they're absolute 100% no doubt
about experts and everything.
It's incredible.
Fire Joe Spada. You don't know what he's doing.
And then they turn the season around.
And then they make the playoffs.
And unfortunately, they lost
to,
oh, was that in, yeah, the Rangers.
Was that his first year? No, or was that,
that was Dusty Baker's last year.
Joe Spada was the next year.
But anyhow, then this last year,
all injuries. And now you're, you come into this season.
You think it's going to be the pitching that is your strength.
And I thought it was too.
Mike Burles was incredible in spring training.
Unfortunately, that hasn't borne out in the regular season as of yet.
Tatuya, I'm feeling pretty good about it.
He was better in his second start.
And he is going to start Friday now that the Astros have announced, if you have not heard.
Emi is starting Friday against the Mariners.
And then it'll be Lance McCullors Jr. on Saturday.
Sunday and Monday are to be announced.
Spencer Arrogati is going to be involved in there somewhere.
He lasts through for the Space Cowboys on the third.
And so he would actually be on regular rest today.
But I don't know exactly when he's going to get into the fold or if he's going to pitch now.
And then maybe Sunday or Monday.
But Spencer Arrogati is going to be one of those guys.
He's going to be one of the first ones off the line.
And then we'll see what happens with the rest of the Astros rotation.
But I was feeling pretty good about the starting rotation.
I even said it was going to be one of those things
that's kind of an underreported
and maybe question mark
that is going to turn out to be a strength
for the Astros. It hasn't
happened yet. It's early in the season
and now Hunter Brown is down
for who knows how long.
Apparently it's going to be several weeks
before he's even re-evaluated
if you did not hear the
follow-up from Joe Espada
as we had him on yesterday
he did not want to reveal what was happening
with Hunter Brown and as we
basically gut feeling, it wasn't going to be good news.
If Joe's coming on this show and he's going to talk about Hunter Brown and he says we're going to say something later,
normally that means it's not great news.
So reevaluated in a couple of weeks, the strain is muscular in nature and no damage to any ligaments.
That is supposed to be positive news for the Houston Astros.
So reevaluated in a couple of weeks means to me it'll be a couple more weeks after.
after that. Then he's got a rehab. And then we basically know what happens with pitching injuries
here in Houston better than just about anybody else. He's going to be throwing catch.
Then he's going to be throwing off of a flat ground. Then he's going to be throwing off a mound.
Then it's going to be live BPs or simulated games or whatever. And then it's probably going to
be maybe a little bit of rehab because he's going to have to build back up and then he'll be back.
That's going to take time.
It's not what you want to hear.
especially when it was Hunter Brown
is basically like
Gladys Knights and the Pips
and the Pips can sing
the Pips are good
but
everybody else has to step up now
because Hunter Brown was your 1A
no doubt about it
ace and with him missing
and now the way that this roster is constructed
where you don't have a 1B
like Framber Valdez
everybody else is going to have to step up
an aggregate
and we'll just
We'll see how it goes.
It was okay yesterday.
If you got anything going offensively,
you only gave up five runs in Colorado.
That's not crazy.
Three earned runs from Mike Burroughs.
It's not insane.
But the whole rest of the starting pitching staff
is going to have to step up,
including today, Christian Javier,
we need you, buddy.
We need you to be El Reptile.
Throw strikes, as Brian Bogus Hevick said.
Control has been an issue for him
in the first couple of starts.
Stuff actually hasn't been horrible, but you're putting guys on base.
And oh, by the way, you're a fly ball pitcher in Sacramento.
And now in Coors Field, it's going to be a little bit tougher for you.
We'll see how it goes.
All right, 713, 212-790 is the phone number if you want to get in.
It is the best segment of the week.
7-13-212-5-7-90.
Ain't nobody getting time.
Ain't nobody getting time for that.
Hey, nobody getting time for that.
Ain't nobody got time for me.
Time for that.
All right, let's go.
713, 212, 5-790.
7-1-3-212-5-7-90.
There's something you've got to get off your chest.
Somebody's been bothering you at work.
Something's not living up to expectations in your life or in general.
You say, ain't nobody got time for that.
ain't nobody got time for that
or you want to tell someone to shut their bum ass up
shut your bum ass up man
you can do that 713
212-5-790
7-1-3-212
5-7-90
all right uh did you see this brawl
between horhe soler and reynaldo lopez
last night the angels and the braves
Jonathan i don't know if you caught you that
yeah there was like they were literally throwing hayman
which I'm okay with. I'm on board with. If everybody can fight in hockey and you just miss
like two minutes of the game, why can't we do that in every other sport? I think we should
have penalty boxes in every single sport. So Dylan Brooks and a men Thompson can throw hands,
and then once one of them goes down, you just sit the game out for two minutes.
Hold on. Is he swinging with him with the baseball in his hand? That's where I have an issue.
Okay, look, you're supposed to be throwing hands, Reinaldo Lopez. If you missed it,
he has a baseball in his hand.
And he's going full cane and able.
He's like crushing him with a baseball in his hand.
You cannot use a weapon.
I mean, that's assault.
Raynaldo Lopez has a baseball in his hand and he smashes it into Jorge Saler.
Ain't nobody got time for that.
Raynaldo Lopez?
Ain't nobody got time for me.
Come on, man.
He was straight with for murder.
That's no...
Yes!
You could literally give somebody brain damage
hitting them in the head with a baseball like that.
He didn't throw it at him, folks.
What I'm saying is he had it in his hand like a rock.
Like I said, full can and able.
And he's like smashing it into Horacellear.
Who's out here throwing overhand rights
like he's Mike Tyson against Razor Ruddock?
That was crazy.
But anyways, don't bring a...
Don't bring a knife to a gunfight.
That is very unsportsman-like conduct, okay, folks, all right?
Just hash it out like you did with your bros.
Can we just have that?
I don't want to get on my soapbox, Jonathan, but back in my day, you just hashed it out with your hands,
somebody won, somebody lost, and you went about your day.
And you learned a little bit about yourself in the pecking order of life, okay?
These are life lessons.
You're like, damn, I just got my ass what?
I guess I'm not as cool as I thought.
Oh, this is not good.
It's good.
Life lessons.
Okay? You don't have to bring baseballs into it.
All right, anyways.
What do you got, Jonathan?
I feel like mine are always road.
Yeah, you get a lot of road rages, Jonathan.
I'm a little worried about you.
You know, I hold it in.
You know, people in Houston, Texas are tooled up, right?
Like, you need to watch out out there.
Look, it don't matter.
When you hit the 6-10-59, you are survival mode, all right?
Well, there's a lot of people who are in survival mode, too.
You need to understand that.
We're not just driving here.
Yeah.
But I just don't understand when it says to merge.
You know what?
What?
I just don't get people that, you know what?
No, no, no.
This is what I really don't understand.
Why are we slamming on the brakes when you can just get off the gas to slow your car down?
There's no reason to be in any lane in the highway and you see someone sitting out a little bit.
You see the red lights and you're slamming your brakes instantly.
I got a little life lessons for you, Jonathan.
then there's two ways to waste gas.
One, accelerating, that burns gas.
And two, when you hit your brakes hard, you're wasting the gas that you just used.
So if you want to keep more fuel efficient, especially in these economic times, folks,
when the gas is hitting $4 a gallon, you want to save gas.
Don't lay on your gas.
And if you're not slamming your brakes, that's a waste of gas as well.
Those are the two ways you're wasting gas.
Coasting is your friend.
And at gas stations, I don't.
want to go inside and pay. If your card reader is not working and you do the whole process and it goes,
please see, cashier. And you go yell at somebody and then you tell them, and you tell them you
don't want them to have a nice day. You forgot the part where you said, because you can't figure out just
telling them to fill me up.
Ain't nobody got time for that? Sorry, go ahead. Yeah, it's not fun.
I can't stand. I know. I understand. I understand. Because then I end up buying some peanut
I buy like a Noss energy drink and peanut M&Ms when I walk in there.
This is bad.
I don't want to go in there.
I just want to pay, clear all my receipts and random fast food trash and go about my day.
That's what I want to do with the gas station.
All right?
I'm with you, Jonathan.
You know anybody got time for that.
Fix your card readers, folks.
Whoever distributed these card readers, it's not great.
I feel like I'm getting scanned when that happened.
I don't know a lot of them.
Yeah, just find a place with tap to pay.
A lot of them got tap to pay.
All right.
Those are you on hold. Let's go.
713, 212.5.790 is the phone number.
Roger, holding longest.
What's up, Roger?
How's that compartment?
To the insubordinate, ignorant service tech that keeps on grabbing the wrong material that's not signed to his job.
And then calls in and says, well, Roger gave him the wrong material.
No, Roger didn't give the wrong material.
Your dumb Ash, didn't read the boss.
You took off like a bat out of head.
like you always do and then call back and then at the end of the day they find out that you're a jackass
and you keep on doing the same stuff over and over again.
So like Jack Burton always says, shut your bum ass up.
Shit your bum ass up, man.
Wow.
Ain't nobody got that for that.
That's the worst.
Somebody at work is causing problems and then blaming you.
Mm.
Mm.
Mm.
Mm.
Mm.
Mm.
Mm.
Mm.
All right.
713, 2.1, 790 is the phone number.
713.
2-1-2-5-7-90.
Larry and Galveston, go ahead.
The floor is yours.
How are you guys doing?
Doing great.
Well, we're enjoying the beautiful weather down here in G-town,
but I got one question about Astros pitching.
And, you know, there's a guy that's,
he's not actively pitching right now,
but he did all the way up through,
up to spring training, and he's a former astro by the name of Uncle Charlie Morton.
And if Philip Rivers can get recalled out of his house to throw footballs for a professional
NFL team, Charlie Morton can come back over to Houston, which is the place that he loved
anyway and
he was throwing in spring training
he's retired and give us some
that's what I
that's what I heard that
he was I think he retired
right prior to spring training
no he retired at the end of the year
and he signed with the Braves to like retire with them
that was like in September
is there any chance at all that we could
just pick up the phone and call them
and say hey what do you think
about coming back and
let us check you out and see if you might be able to help us out this year.
Yeah, actually, we have Charlie Morton on the phone right now.
Here's what he had to say about his retirement.
Shit your bum-ass up, man.
Oh, come on, man.
Come on, Larry.
He just retired.
He's 41 or 42.
Okay.
Well, hell, Verlander's, what, 44, 45?
Verlanders build different, okay?
He was not good.
Charlie Morton was not good.
last year.
Okay.
Actually, he was terrible.
It was, yeah, it was just, it was a crazy idea on my part.
Okay, that's okay.
That's okay.
I don't know.
I just thought, I mean, because I, you know, we got to do something to get somebody
else to come in and try it.
That's all right.
Erigate is going to be fine.
We got Jason Alexander.
I don't know, JP France is in the system.
We'll figure something out, man.
I sure do hope so.
I'm, and you know,
as Fada, it just seemed like
the fella is
snake bit because with all of the injuries
and everything,
I mean, it's just one thing
right after another.
I hate to say that. I love the start
of our season, but
you know, the bats are clicking
except for last night.
But Christian
Walker's coming back in the form
and
I think, you know,
all right.
All right, Larry.
Thank you.
It's a shut-your-bum-ass-up segment.
I appreciate you.
But, yeah, Charlie Morton is not coming back, but we appreciate you.
All right, we're going to take quick break.
Brian, we see you on hold.
You guys want to get in.
Ain't nobody got time for that slash shut your bum-ass up.
7-13-212-1-7-90.
Yeah, the Morton family says, shut your bum-ass up.
Let's keep Charlie retired.
Ain't nobody got time to be coming back out of retirement.
7-13-212-5-790.
7-1-3-2-2-5-7-90.
All right, couple of y'all in hold.
We've got some lines open, too.
You want to get in?
7.13.
2.12.5.790 is the phone number.
713, 212, 5790.
You can also send tweets to adsports RV.
And you know what?
I'm going to do one.
You know, sometimes in life, in the past, I've been afraid to upset the Apple cart.
You know, I didn't want to make anybody mad.
I try to be nice and subservient to everyone,
but I just got to speak my truth, okay?
Okay, the apple cart, okay.
Are you ready for this?
Okay, fine.
Those of you have been saying,
Firing E. Meadoka, I mean, come on, man.
They've won seven games in a row.
How are we feeling now?
It was a bad opinion to start with.
Udoca is one of the best coaches in the NBA.
Yes, they were on a bad run of things,
but he was one of the most highly sought after coaches.
it was a smash hire when he came here.
They've been very good.
They've had some injuries.
They've won 50 games now with no Fred Van Vleet
and no Stephen, no Fred Van Vleet all season long,
and Stephen Adams hasn't been here for basically half the season.
And yeah, we'll see what happens in the playoffs.
But he's still a damn good coach.
They've won seven in a row.
All you fire you doka guys,
who, as I said, it didn't make sense in the first place,
and he just got signed to an extension.
in this offseason. He's going anywhere.
Okay? Shut your bum ass up.
Shut your bum ass up, man.
All right. Brian and Pearland, what's up?
What's going on, Ross? You probably
know this because you're a consumer
of U.S. sports,
but this weekend,
coming to Bluebell Park,
this is only for one
and only Jim Schloss-Nagel.
I don't want to hear about
you loved your time in college station.
you thought you guys could build on something else.
You really were in it for the long haul, yada, yada, yada.
But Christo Conte made you an offer to it.
Man, shut your bum ass up.
Schles, I know we don't want to hear any of your bull crap.
Shut your bum ass up, man.
We'll put nine on nine and we'll just play it and see what happens.
You can't talk anyway because your field ain't got a lick of grass in it.
Y'all got ridiculous sliding bases, which were all turf.
Get a real baseball.
field over there.
I'm with you.
Before you come bringing that noise.
Dude, Brian, they have turf.
They have turf in the football stadium.
That is inexcusable at the University of Texas.
I believe they're installing grass now, I think, in football.
I don't know about baseball.
But I'm with you 100% on that.
However, I'm not with you where Jim Schlossnagle wanted to come to a real baseball program
with some real success, Brian.
So shut your bum ass up and hook them horns.
Shut your bum ass up, man.
Love you, Brian.
love you're off
all right
there you go
all right 713
we had somebody drop off
you guys want to get in you can still do that
713 212 5790
is the phone number if you want to get in
713 212 5790
yes a big series
coming up this weekend at bluebell park
the number two
Texas longhorns
taking on I don't know
do you know what the
no you're not going to know what the Aggie baseball team is ranked
I don't know what the Aggie baseball team is ranked
I don't know what the Aggie baseball team is, right?
I'm wishing them, not the best.
Hook them horns.
I'll be honest.
I don't watch college baseball until the World Series.
I'm going to be honest.
I don't normally watch it until about regionals,
even as a Texas Longhorn baseball fan.
When I was on campus, I used to go to a lot of games.
Back in my day, it was called the Longhorns All Sports Package, the Lasp.
And you could just go to every game.
I don't know what it is like now for the kids on campus.
I imagine they have to shell out some extra cash.
it was like 70 or 80 bucks and then you got into every single sport all year long it was pretty sweet so i used to go to all the base a lot of baseball games as many basketball games as i possibly could and of course football season tickets good times good times but yeah dishfolk field has turf not good and dk r has turf but i believe now coming up this past year they had turf now i think they're finally installing some grass it's like you know what i'm with
Brian on that. Ain't nobody got time for that. University of Texas.
Hey nobody got time for that.
It's supposed to be one of the heritage football programs in the country.
You're in Austin, Texas. It's not like you're in Minnesota and the ground is going to freeze
and it's going to be all these extra costs for you. Put some grass on the field.
Let's go. All right. There you go.
Okay, a couple of minutes left in this segment. We will have the news at noon coming up for you.
Yes. At noon. We will.
will go into Astros on deck mode coming up at 1 o'clock 2.10, it will be the Houston Astros taking
on the Colorado Rockies. In a scenario, we didn't think we would be. The funny part is, after you
swept the Red Sox, you're like, all right, they're going. And I know even us as defeatist Astros
fans were kind of like, yeah, who knows what's going to happen in Sacramento. It wasn't the craziest
thing that they lost two out of three in Sacramento. But then you're following that up with losing the
first two against the Colorado Rockies.
I mean, you're taking on the A's and the Rockies, and you are one and four in those games.
Is it a must-win game for the Houston Astros today against the Rocky?
No, it's not a must-win game, but you'd really like to have it.
It'd be nice.
Throw some strikes, Christian Javier.
Ooh, a little bit of line movement.
Mention this earlier. Astros minus 156.
That means that's what you have to lay to win $100.
156 is going to win you 100 if you win of course
now it's a 143 oh no
I'm a little scared I'm a little scared over 11 and a half
bad things are happening if that if that goes over
I think that means Christian Javier's given up a ton of runs
or hopefully that means the Astros are scoring 11 runs like they did
on Saturday in Sacramento
but it feels like it's going to be more like game one
where it was a knockdown dragout
Michael Lorenzen hasn't been pitching well for the Rockies
Christian Javier has been a big question mark for the Astros.
For all of our mental health sake, we need the Astros to win this game.
Kind of like how we've been saying all of our mental health sake,
we've been needing the rockets to pick up some wins.
They've been able to do that.
They did it last night in Phoenix right now,
tied with the Lakers for the four spot in the West.
And the Lakers do have that tiebreaker.
So the Rockets are going to need to make some moves in their final three games.
off today and then they will finish out the season this weekend.
Last game it will be on Sunday.
They're going to be playing the Philadelphia 76ers, then the Minnesota Timberwolves,
then the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday.
It'd be nice to finish on a 10-game win streak.
That's what they'd be capable of doing.
If they could sweep all the final of these three games,
we will see what happens there.
All right, we are going to take a top-of-the-hour break here on Sports Talk 790.
You guys want to get in.
you can. I will be flying solo
for this last hour, I believe,
unless, I don't know, Chris Gordy's been coming
to going, if I'm going to be honest with you, so I'm not exactly
sure what's happening with him. But
it will be Jonathan Allen
giving us the news at noon, coming up
at noon, and then
you guys, if you want to get it, 713,
212-5-790 is the phone number
7-13-212-5-7-90.
On-Dek mode coming your way at 1 o'clock.
Astros' first pitch at 2-10, and it
will be the news at noon.
here all on the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Next up here on Sports Talk 790.
This is the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Night long, baby.
When did that game in, Gordy?
It's like 115 or something.
Which one? Rockets.
It was...
It was a pretty tight one in Colorado, really.
I just couldn't believe...
I couldn't believe the NBA was tipping.
off a game at 10-15 central
time last night. That's just insane.
Crazy. Two hours and 18 minutes for the Astros.
It was a later 740 start.
That was a quick game. Well, when you get three hits all game
long, it's going to be a bit
of a quicker one. Kyle Freeland
is mowing you down.
Not great. And then the Rockets.
That was a long game, too. It's because they had all those reviews.
Reed Shepard got hit with a flagra foul
against Dylan Brooks.
I think they did another couple
reviews. You had
Jalen Green and Amin Thompson going
at it. I was like Jalen's first drive
to the basket.
Amin was pulling him.
Yeah.
They were, they did not like each other.
Yeah, and then Jalen
was, he blocked in a men
shot and then he was all over him.
And then I think there was another time
where Amin Thompson got him back or something like that.
And he was looking at him, he was like, I'm on your,
he looked like he was saying, I'm on your ass. Like, I'm on your ass.
At one point, Dylan was
shoving Alpi and they brought it up
I was watching the Peacock broadcast they were
bringing up they're like yeah I mean look
you practice against these guys so much
you know their tendencies and you know
how to kind of get in their head because when they
were teammates you would do this so you know
it was fun it was fun to watch rockets
get the win 19 to 105
over the Phoenix Suns they have
won seven in a row
I'm sure that'll be part of the news
at noon with
Jonathan Allen
of course
Ross, just you, were you not listening?
Houston takes.
I was.
119 to 105.
Getting the seven game winstreet.
I don't know.
Four seed sounds like it might be possible.
Tied right now with the Los Angeles Lakers.
They're in the five spot and the Lakers are in the four spot because they do hold the tiebreaker.
Lakers remaining schedule.
They will be at the Warriors tomorrow night.
Then they'll be taking on the suns on Friday.
So they'll be a tough back-to-back, then home for the Jazz, which should be an easy win.
So Rockins basically need to win out with the Lakers dropping a game.
It's possible.
The math has to math here.
Like, it's only three games left.
You're in a tie and you need to win.
Basically, you need to drop them to drop a game.
You've got the Philadelphia 76ers.
Then the Minnesota Timberwolves, who might be locked into their spot.
So I don't know how much they're going to be wanting to play their guys.
Because their four games, excuse me, three games.
games behind the Rockets.
Yeah, three games back with three games to go.
We don't envision the Rockets losing three straight to finish the season.
So I think the Rockets magic number to hold off to Minnesota, that's going to be one.
There are four games ahead the Sun.
So maybe the Timberwolves would be done.
And Anthony Edwards, you can go ahead and sit this one out, even though that didn't matter
the last time they played the Timberwolves.
The Nuggets have won on in a row.
I don't think you're going to catch them at this point.
No.
But the Lakers have lost three in a row.
So I think more likely you to jump the Lakers and be the four seed.
Nuggets have the Grizzlies, the Thunder and the Spurs,
but the Thunder and Spurs might be locked into their spots
and not be playing people either.
Yeah, that's what's...
You wish the Spurs were just one game back,
so Thunder and Spurs would still be playing for something.
Yeah, I don't think it's going to happen.
Three-seed probably would be preferable
to avoid the Thunder as long as possible,
but the Rockets have made their bed.
They're going to lie in it.
What else, Jonathan?
Let's bring it down to the Astros.
They were starting off so hot this season,
going to 6 and 6, 6,
losing game 2 in Denver,
5 to 1 in the Rockies.
Like I said earlier, Ross.
What did you say earlier?
It seems like a repeat of last year, man.
What do you mean?
Repeat of last year. Come on, man.
They're going to be fine.
Pitching's going to be fine.
Javier's going to be dealing.
I'm just, I'm just saying.
All right. Well, they've won four,
they've lost, excuse me, lost four out of five to the A's and the Rockies.
That's not inspiring a whole lot of conference with anyone.
I understand that.
They're going to bounce back today.
210 first pitch here on Sports Talk 780.
That's like if the Texans start 0 and 1 going,
his team ain't a playoff team, Ross.
Yeah, it's early, Jonathan.
Don't panic yet.
I just, I just, it's a little bit.
I'm just on the same.
By the way, Gordy, see the Astros bat started off okay
after a bad spring training.
How were they last night?
Last night, not so good.
Christian Walker was good.
They got three hits off of Kyle Freeland and company.
I can't remember the name of the reliever who came in,
but he came in and through like Antonio Sensatela.
Give them credit.
They were not afraid of Yoron Alperus last night.
They went, yeah, we'll pitch to you.
Yeah, he went 0 for 3 and got hit in the back as well.
He's O for his last 7.
Turns out he's not going to hit 400 all season long, but that's okay.
I still love Yordon.
And I still love him in that two spot in the lineup.
What else is going on to the news at noon, Jonathan?
As the news broke out earlier during this show, Texans exercised the 2027 fifth year
option on the contract of
QB, C.J. Stroud and all pro
defensive end, Will Anderson.
Stroud is now due
25.9 million and Will Anderson do
21.5 million.
Both players are on extension eligibility.
So they're not, it's not fully like
they got the fifth year, but.
So they're going to play this year and next year.
Will Anderson is the easiest lockup ever.
You had Aaron Wilson reporting
there. There's expected to be a blockbuster
extension for him coming up
pretty soon here.
Yeah.
CJ Stroud,
maybe you guys can wait.
Maybe not.
Unless you want to try to get ahead,
if you really want to buy low on him
and try to get him for like 45, 50 million a year,
rather than 55.
If he had a good season,
it's going to cost you 5560.
Here's why I would not do that.
Your Honor,
please let me present to you Exhibit A,
Kyler Murray.
Now, let me pivot.
Let me show you Exhibit B.
Tua,
Loa.
These are guys that looked awesome.
What about the way out?
Sometimes you give up on guys and they,
they turn out good.
Baker Mayfield,
Sam Darnold,
come on down.
Yeah,
but that took,
you know,
Smith,
come on down.
That took them leaving and going to another place to prove that they were
going to be doing.
Sherry golf,
come on down.
So I'm just saying it could go both ways.
It was too horrible,
horrible playoff performances to be sure.
But I,
and I don't know how much signing him to big money
would just hamper you here in Houston.
Because all those guys that I mentioned
that flourish and their other places
were under different contracts.
Said Jared Goff, I think he was making big money
the whole time with the Lions.
I'd have to check his contract details.
But I'm rooting for CJ Stroud.
I'm not super optimistic.
It's feeling like he's just like going to be
one of the top 10 to 12 quarterbacks in the league
and you're going to have to have elite weapons
and an elite defense around him to win.
Nothing wrong with letting him play another full season
to see what he can do.
Seeing what happens.
All right, Jonathan, anything else on the news at noon?
As Gordy broke it earlier this show, Toyota Center will be getting old.
Yeah, he broke it.
Gordy on the scene.
Gordy broke it on this show.
You broke on this show.
Matt Young broke it.
No, Chris Gordy, full credit.
Everyone credit.
Chris Gordy, he broke the Rocket Story.
Ah, well, they were getting $180 million upgrade to no cost to Houston taxpayers.
Thank goodness.
Mayor John Whitmore said Wednesday.
The Harris County Houston Sports Authority is expected to make the announcement official Wednesday afternoon.
What is more about this upgrade that's going to happen?
Gordy.
It's all like just upgrades to Toyota Center.
It's a facility that doesn't just host Rockets games.
It's going to host comment games, possibly future NHL games, concerts, all kinds of events, the RNC in a few years.
So yeah, it makes sense to upgrade the facilities.
You got to, in sports facilities, you're all.
always keeping up with the Joneses, Ross.
The Jerry Joneses?
All the Joneses.
Okay. Keeping up with every one of the Joneses.
Yeah, that sounds good to me.
If it's not going to cost us any money,
and Toulman Fertita is going to be footing some of the bill.
And he said it's some state tax money?
Yeah, state dollars.
Okay.
But again, because the state, you know,
is using that facility.
Okay, that's cool.
A suck in Amarillo.
Thanks for the help.
New roof, LED boards,
huge school board.
Yeah, what's up with the roof?
It's not going to hurricane damage or anything?
Are they all good?
You've got to replace some tiles.
See, Tillman's a goal of a good owner.
He's like, I will foot the bill on this.
Amy Adams-Strake would have been like, we're moving.
We're relocating.
Tillman can afford it.
We all know what kind of money Tillman makes.
Nobody's going to buy him crying poor to the Houston taxpayer.
So we're all good there.
He's doing all right there as the Stolling ambassador to Italy?
Yeah, I guess so.
Is everything okay in Italy?
I don't know.
Let's get a little hot to the east over there.
I think we should go.
In the middle of the east.
We may have to go visit him.
Okay.
I don't even want to know why the number one thing trending on Twitter is Lebanon.
So I'm not even going to ask.
I'm going to bury my head in the same.
I'm different.
I have trending on my Twitter.
Sark tells us the quiet part out loud.
Oh, okay.
I don't know what that is.
Oh, this is global trending.
I don't want to do this.
Pat McAfee trending.
I have mine set to U.S.
And I have it like non-customized.
Mike Rable is trending.
Yeah, my four U trends are rockets.
and
and Astros.
But if I go to like the national trending,
it's Lebanon. Hunter Brown is
trending. Bayruth.
Jason Kelsey.
Does he get mixed up in two?
I think he's doing
he's doing, what did I see?
And Vrable.
Hey, you didn't mention Vrable in the news at noon,
Jonathan.
It's a tough look.
He and Diana Rossini
both happily married, by the way.
Happily.
Well, happily.
They were until this happened.
Happily married.
All right.
Quick break here on the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Without Matt Thomas, we'll be into this mode until one, at which point we will switch into Astros on deck.
210 first pitch.
Astros and Rockies coming your way here on your home for the Houston Rockets and the Houston Astros.
Teams that win championships in this town, Sports Talk 790.
Continuing along on the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Here on Sports Talk 790.
Chris Gordy hanging out for a little bit.
deck mode coming up at 1 o'clock phone lines are open for you 713 212 5790 713 212 575790 you're a little bit of
research for on deck because we do have a lot of elements we have to get in home run counter
into report all the type of stuff did you know garty and we'll mention this coming up in the next
hour dodgers lead the way in baseball with 21 home runs second atlanta braves tied for
second, Washington Nationals, tied for second, Houston Astros.
Yeah, no, they're top five in almost every offensive category right now.
Team OPS start of the year, they were number one.
Now they are down to number two.
This is going to shock you.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are number one in Team OPS.
Yeah, the, um...
They're nine and two.
The Dodgers are nine and two.
Yeah, it almost makes you wonder how they lost two games.
Oh, man.
Anything can happen in baseball and any baseball series.
I mean, they got pushed to seven in the World Series, so they can lose.
Nobody is like an 80% favorite because baseball is just so crazy.
And by the way, you have other good teams as well.
But the Dodgers, Dodgers are damn good.
Plus 35 run differential best in baseball.
Astros in second place right now in the West with a couple of wins in a row for the Rangers.
And the Astros losing three in a row.
Six and six.
Christian Javier on the mound coming up at 210.
How we feeling?
man he's got to he's got to be on against this crappy rockies team
it'd be nice that's what kind of sucked was what they they were all getting hits the last few nights
that's what sucks is you're playing the a's and the rockies and i know it's again i literally just said
it's baseball and anything can happen any given game but you would love for it to turn out your way
they should have won that sunday game against the ayes when unfortunately they got the lead
and then brian abray you gave up that you know it's saying they should should have won is a little bit much
They were down 9 to 5 in that game.
But they very easily could have won that game.
You got shelled on Friday in Sacramento, whatever.
Does this set the stage for them to go take three out of four in Seattle?
I would love that.
You know, like you play down your competition against Oakland and Colorado.
We could say that's so Astros.
That'd be great.
If they can get it done, they have announced Tatsuya E. Mai on Friday,
and it'll be Lance McCullors Jr. on Saturday.
And then we're just going to have to see what happens on Sunday and Monday
in terms of the rotation.
But Joe Espada did say they are going to still go into a six-man rotation,
even though you're down, your ace, Hunter Brown.
I think the easy one is, what's his face?
Araggeti is going to slide back in, right?
And then the question is which of the other ones?
Do you want to?
Yeah.
Jason Alexander.
I mean, you have, do you want to go blue ball?
Do you want to go Ryan Weiss?
Even though Ryan Weiss wasn't good the last time he was out there on yesterday,
not yesterday, two days ago against Colorado.
And you've kind of carved out this role.
for Blue Ball already too.
Like, I don't know if you...
But I don't know, the Cody Bolton thing
took us all by surprise.
Yeah, you just needed somebody
who was on schedule.
And we appreciate...
Thank you for your services, Cody Bolton.
Probably should have stuck...
He's actually pretty solid.
I was gonna say probably should have stuck
with him a little bit longer there.
Well, he was running out of gas,
and I think he was over the amount of pitches,
but he was so efficient to start that game.
But this is the thing.
It's not only that the starters,
like, we're listing,
okay, hey, Christian Havier tonight.
Okay, yeah, Lance McAllors, Jr.,
taught you at you, MI.
Those guys need to go out there.
They not only have to be effective, they need to give you innings.
And you don't want to be here at April 8th and say, guys, we need innings.
We need lengths because generally guys are working into the year, into the season and building up their arms.
And you don't want to go throw guys out there for 100 pitches, but you need that right now.
So Spencer, again, he's the given, you know who I think gets it?
The other.
You got to go JP France?
I know that's your guy.
No.
No, he's been good though.
E.R.E. of zero.
All right.
That's good.
It doesn't be much better than that.
Three appearances so far.
I think it's Colton Gordon.
Yeah.
Colton Gordon has made two starts so far in Sugar Land.
The ERA of 270.
10 innings pitched.
Three earned runs, eight strikeouts.
He has been good.
Miguel, you say his name?
Uyola.
Uyola.
He has been good.
Two games started so far.
186 ERA.
Jason Alexander, though, not great.
Three starts, 13 and third innings pitched.
six earn runs seven walks to six strikeouts.
He's working out the kinks.
The area of 405.
And that's a good thing that you have options,
but it was going to be like Hunter Brown and the boys.
Peter Lambert, too.
That's another one that they cleared waivers with,
and they were high on,
and they brought them back to Sugarland,
but we'll see on them.
But yeah, Spencer Arrogati,
and I would make my guess that maybe Colton Gordon,
if they don't just stay with a blue bar
somebody already on the on the big league
Ross.
All right. Well, I'm
hoping that this will be okay.
Because we got the news that Hunter Brown's
going to be re-evaluated in a couple
of weeks. It is a grade
two shoulder strain.
But everything that I've read
and, okay, there's Twitter doctors and all
that type of stuff. There's so many doctors out there. There's so many
Twitter doctors out there. But it's going to be
at least a month. It's going to be a month
that he's going to be out. Then he's
going to have to build back up. And then
hopefully be successful from there, which we
imagine he's going to be. He'll be
back, but getting that news,
it's just a huge blow. I just
laughed all these people like, no, man,
look, I know, I know about these. I've been
my cousin, you had a great two shoulder strain.
It's only a couple weeks. It's only a couple weeks. He's got
rest and ice. You rest and
ice. Compression.
He's going to be that. Elevation.
No big deal. The rice method.
And he's going to be fine.
Re-evaluated in
two weeks, Espada and Dana
Brown said Hunter Brown's strain is muscular in
nature, there's no damage to any ligaments.
That from Chandler-Rome. Dana Brown described
that as positive news.
Dana Brown describes
every injury as positive news, so I'm a little bit worried
about that. I think that's
Dana's job now we found out
for, you know, is to be Mr. Positive
and to downplay things and go, ah, no big
deal. So I guess it's one of those situations. I mean,
we're not going to need daily updates on that. He's out
for right now, and you're just going to have to figure it out.
And it's a bunch of guys who you're hoping
can step up
that you have, you think of as like
two or three guys at the most.
Some fours and fives, and they're going to have to give you some innings.
Because you're also going to be down...
The fact of the matter is you're going to the six-man rotation.
You're already down Hunter Brown, and you're going to be down a man in the bullpen
because you're going to be using your starters.
Did they say why they're going to a six-man?
I think just because it's 13 days in a row, and it's early...
And they want to keep guys rested.
They don't want... What happened to Hunter Brown?
Yeah.
Hunter Brown got hurt.
He had to go 100 plus pitches in his first start because he went out there and he wanted
to be out there for the fifth end.
and then the next start they tried to
try to rein him back in.
I think it was like 78 pitches.
Then he had a shoulder strain.
It's just like, I don't know, man.
It's like a minefield that feels like with these pitching injuries.
But there's so many of these injuries happen.
I mean, they've had something that's happened in the second inning of a game.
So I don't know if it's workload.
It's just.
I don't know what it is.
It just happens sometimes.
Yeah, but trying to limit workload is probably your best chance
at getting guys out there as much as possible.
That's what they're trying to do.
Three-game losing streak, snap today?
Yes.
Michael Lorenzen.
Sorry, I had to take a deep breath.
God, he's been around a while.
By the way, Carlos Coray, out of the lineup again.
We'll bring you the lineup coming up here.
The Astros on deck.
Good Lord. Michael Lorenzen.
Have you?
He's not been good.
I remember from the seven seasons in Cincinnati, but gosh, I forgot Journeyman.
L.A. in 22.
Detroit for part of 23.
Philly.
He is in Detroit.
Philly for part of 23.
Rangers in 24.
as well as Royals in 24.
Royals in 25, Colorado Rockies at 26.
This dude has been all over the place.
Joe Spott is speaking to the media right now.
He says Carlos Correa under the weather.
He has been sick since yesterday, hence his absence from the lineup today.
He is back at the ballpark, did a light pregame workout.
Unclear if he'll be available this afternoon.
There you go.
That's from Chandlerone.
So, I mean, it's been working out this log jam that we've been talking about.
Corridus on the bereavement list.
You've had Carlos Correa sick.
And no matter who you throw out there,
you're going to,
you're going to have a pretty darn good lineup.
And hopefully you can get some hits.
Yeah, you mentioned Michael Lorenzen.
Michael Lawrence is bad.
You need to hit Michael Lorenz.
You need to hit him hard today.
Yes.
Because Christian Javier, I just,
I don't have any,
I'm not inspiring a bunch of confidence.
He's going to out there and spend six runs of,
six innings of one-run ball in Colorado.
He's just, he's a fly-ball pitcher.
He can, when he's missing,
he's got bad control issue.
and then all you take is going to take is a walk in a single and then a three-run bomb,
stuff like that.
And Christian Javier can get into some trouble quick.
So I'm a little bit worried about.
Now I see that Angels game, he was good early and then it kind of got away from him.
And the control started to slip.
Yeah.
So that's the main control.
The main issue for him has been his control early on in the season.
And it's, it just sucked.
Like I think, and we saw it with Lance a little bit, it's these starters, and it gets just
early in the year.
When they're getting ready to go third time through the lineup, that's one.
when the batters are really starting to figure them out.
All right. Javier on the mound today.
I've lost four out of five.
I'm not getting that sad.
I'm not saying it's going to be like last year,
but a win tonight, or this afternoon, I should say,
will be good for all our mental health's sake.
713-212-5-790 is the phone number.
Only 30 more minutes to get in on the phone lines.
If you'd like, 7-13-212-5-7-90,
you can also send tweets to at SportsRV and at Chris Gordy as well.
Go to on deck mode here at 1 o'clock.
You're on Sports Talk 790.
Your home for your Houston Astros.
Twitter superstar.
I'm sorry, X.
It's Twitter.
It's Twitter.
It's Twitter.
It's Staples Center.
It's Heinsfield.
And it's Twitter.
Sorry.
I call it Twitter as well.
But I do kind of feel like an old man calling it Twitter.
But let me ask with the young whippersnappers.
You still call it? You're young whippersnapper.
We're never going to say Twitter.
Okay, good.
All right, good.
Then I'll stick with it.
You say Lady A?
Who's that?
Lady Antebellum, the band.
I don't.
They changed their name, Lady A.
I thought antebellum literally just meant pre-war.
I think it can't.
Anti-pre-bellum as in belligerents as in war.
They got canceled.
Doesn't the word antebellum just mean pre-war?
We're like, you can't say anti-bellum.
That's racist.
It's like, all right.
I thought, am I wrong?
It just means pre-war, right?
Right? Let me Google this.
Remember the Dixie Chicks? Can't say Dixie. They're just the chicks.
What does Antebellum mean?
Occurring or existing before a particular war, especially the American Civil War.
Well, I think they didn't want to be associated with that anymore.
Okay.
It's weird when you're famous already.
Like, people already know that name, you know?
But I guess it's like Cleveland Indians. Like, you know, it's...
Well, they're the guardians now.
D.J. Khalid's name was A. Rabat attack before 9-11?
Oh, what was it?
Arab attack.
I didn't know that.
Oh, that's probably, that's probably good one to change.
Okay.
We're learning a lot today.
I did know that.
I mean, I heard that.
I've heard that before.
All right.
Anyways, how about the Houston Astros?
With you until 1 o'clock here on Sports Talk 790.
Real quick.
I do a-oh-okay, go ahead.
Why my Twitter is blowing up.
I tweeted out that I just said I researched this last night because I started seeing everybody's like like opened up my Amazon app and it's like Amazon Prime home of the Masters home of the Masters.
Amazon Prime and I'm like oh is the whole Masters on Amazon Prime?
No Ross just Thursday and Friday from noon to two it's for two hours for two hours.
They're getting are they dispatching an entire crew there for two hours?
So here's here's your schedule if you want to watch the whole Masters Thursday morning.
morning at 6 a.m.
From 6 to 7.30,
the only place you can find
it is masters.com.
That's the only place you can find it.
The website.
Yeah, now people, and the Masters app.
But, you know, it's people teeing off.
I'm not getting the damn Masters app.
Why are that damn app for everything?
The people who tee off earlier are usually crappy, you know.
Who's the old guy that always plays from Houston?
Oh, I don't know which time I want.
What's his name?
Anyway.
Sam Sneed.
No.
Anyway, so then at 7.30 till noon, Paramount Plus is where you can find the coverage.
From noon to 2, it will be Amazon Prime.
And from then 2 to 6.30, the rest of the afternoon will be ESPN.
Tom Kite?
No.
I'm just looking for old guys and have used some ties.
That's Thursday and Friday.
Okay.
And then Saturday and Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 1, it's masters.com and Paramount Plus.
I'm confused.
And then one to six, it's CBS.
So CBS takes you the rest of the way.
So if I want to watch all the Masters coverage,
I got to go to Masters.com, Paramount Plus, Amazon Prime, ESPN, and CBS.
So I tweeted this out.
I said, so, man, you just need a laptop, a TV, and a few subscription services.
It's that easy.
While I'm getting called out by an old man, get off my lawn guy.
People are very pissed at you.
You're old. Master's app is free.
Yeah, and I respond to one guy.
I'm like, Masters app, great.
bro, you charging your phone all day?
My phone's gonna be dead if I'm watching
golf all day on my phone.
Go ahead and mute that.
I'm gonna tell you.
Every time you go viral, you always need to
people are pissed.
People are very upset.
That's Twitter, man.
Look, I'm gonna tell you, I'm gonna give you a little,
I know you do this too, but there's three dots in the right,
mute this conversation and just let the, let the views grow,
and you don't have to interact.
Yeah, I got, I got, that what happened to me.
I got a nice little Twitter payout last month.
When people were very upset with me about,
when I was talking about Jalen Green and some,
fans fans are like, Jaylon Green's going to get eight wide open threes a game with
Devin Booker next to him. He's going to dominate this season. Oh yeah,
all right, Phoenix Sun's fan. How are we feeling, pal?
Jaylon Green. Steelers fan. Aaron Rogers is coming to run through Houston. Oh,
okay. All right, Steeler fan. Whenever you end up in the 4U tab, it's always a bunch of
idiots and haters. You know what I dare you to tweet next Rockets game? What?
Shangoon's overrated. Oh, no. Hell no. I don't have the Turkish consulate coming
after me. I don't need all that. Dude, I was on YouTube. Okay, here's a little thing. I do obviously
Rockets pregame shows and sometimes when they're a national broadcast, then they're not on
SCHN. I have to go to like YouTube to find the press conferences. So I went to the press
conference for EMA Udoka after a game they won against the Golden State Warriors. Every single
comment was some Turkish fan talking about fire Udocha because he's misusing Alperin Shingoon.
Wow.
He hates Alper and Shingoon.
They need to fire Ema Doka.
Like, what?
He starts him every game and he's been playing well.
I guess they got mad about the comment
where possibly he was telling him Alper and Shingun
not to take a wide open three,
which I'm not even necessarily buying that.
You know what I just need Alpi to do?
Alpi, when we didn't get the rebound
and we're back in transition,
look down the court.
Stop looking at the route.
I need you to just go.
Go, it's over.
The play happened.
It's over.
Don't say that.
Go.
that in Turkey. Don't say he was
5 of 15 from the field. Don't say that in
Turkey. I love Alpern-Shingun.
I root for him so much and I want
him to be successful and thrive.
I am this crazy type of
fan, which is rare these days,
where I'm a fan of what the
jersey says on the front
rather than getting
all whipped up and becoming a faction
of a fan who is a stand-em.
Stand-in is ruining the NBA,
and it's ruining Rockets Twitter. It's the
worst. It was with these Jalen Green
fans.
who are all upsetting in with their Jalen Green agendas
and these Alperin-Shingon fans.
And you know what happens when you're doing that?
When Alpern-Shingon drops 35 points, you can't root for them
because you're Jalen Green over Alpun Shungungung,
or your Jabari Smith sucks or Reed Shepard needs to start.
Just root for the freaking Houston Rockets, folks.
When everybody's good, it's good.
And when they're bad, you can be objective about it.
And you don't have to be in this, get in this tunnel
to where you have to dig yourself in
and have all these biases to where you're rooting against your own
players. It's ridiculous.
Yeah, I think there's
something to you can be a fan of a player.
Yes. But you have to, when they have a game, when they have an off game,
you have to go, all right, hey, yeah, he's stuck tonight, but, you know,
I think he'll be better next game. And they won.
You know, Alpern Shingoon went five of 15, and the Rockets won last night,
and there's some people who are upset.
You know what I love too last night was that Strette that Durant was on the bench,
and they were going on the run. The first one off the bench,
when they call timeout, he is up there.
Yeah.
I mean, I love that.
Because again, like, there's this
stupid superstar mentality sometimes
where guys think I have to be a part of that.
No. Kevin Dran's been
like that as entire, like, people aren't watching the games.
When Bill Simmons is like, vibes are bad
with the Rockets right now. Okay, Bill.
Watch every single game.
Like, yeah, sometimes
they're a little disjointed when they're like losing
games and things are going well.
Is it too home or to say it feels like Durant is really
enjoying his time in Houston?
It's, I feel like he's doing a good job.
He's playing well. He's going about his business.
He's been their best player.
Other people, too, with the revisionist history.
Kevin Durant trade was bad trade.
Should have made that trade.
Jalen Green's not doing so hot with the sons.
And Dylan Brooks has been okay.
And they've won 50 games and Kevin Durant's been their best player.
Why were Phoenix fans booing him?
Like, I don't know.
I feel like he wasn't there long enough to like really develop.
opinion.
Yeah, you think he won it out.
I think you wanted out of Phoenix.
He was only there for a couple of seasons.
And then it didn't work out.
I completely forgot.
When I interviewed Chris Paul the other day,
I forgot Chris Paul's only championship appearance was with the Phoenix Suns.
I forgot the Phoenix Suns.
Yeah, and the Finals.
Yeah, with Devin Booker.
And they lost to the Celtics?
Or who was them?
Bucks.
Okay.
I forgot about that team.
Yeah.
I used to be able to recite every finals matchup back to like
1976. Like that's going to be a trivia question at the bar. Which team did Chris Paul play one
NBA finals? And the end of his career, he was everywhere. Oklahoma City, Houston, of course,
Oklahoma City, Phoenix, the Clippers. You know what he told me though? I said, I said, if they
never trade you from Houston, I said, do you think y'all eventually win the title here? He goes,
man, I don't know. He goes, but I will tell you this, that injury I had. And I think he understands
that Darry and people were questioning, is he going to be the same player? Because remember
what happened was he goes to, okay.
and he's rejuvenated. He stayed healthy and he was awesome in OKC.
And they ended up playing the rockets in, was that the COVID bubble?
Yes.
Or Lou Dort was sitting all those stories?
Well, Lou Dord got blocked at the end by James Hardin.
But Chris Paul had an awesome year that year.
He said that that injury and the rehab he went through, he thinks bought him an extra four or five years of his career.
And he thinks he probably wouldn't have played as long as he did had that injury not happened.
Oh, interesting.
So, yeah, Oklahoma City for a year.
three years in Phoenix, Golden State, Spurs, Clippers.
Interesting end of the career for one Chris Paul.
He will be eligible for the basketball Hall of Fame in 2030.
He's going to be one that actually deserves it.
Yeah.
They put everybody in the basketball hall.
Amari Stottomier just made it.
Like, okay, Amari Stottomier was good, but come on.
Hall of Famer, all-time great.
Amari Stadamier?
Yeah, there's Hall of very good.
Let's see.
He finished.
With one NBA first team, four second teams, six-time All-Star.
Sorry.
Yeah, yeah, six-time All-Star.
No.
Hall of Very Good, Amari Sadamire.
They put him in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Did CP3 finish, is any second all-time assists?
I believe.
Who's first?
Stockton.
Is it Stockton?
Paul Kidd?
No, LeBron James passed Kid recently, I think.
LeBron James come for Chris Paul.
I think it is, I think it's Stockton, Paul, James, Kid.
Oh, no.
Did LeBron pass Jason Kid yet, or he's close?
He's close.
He's close.
Okay.
And then Westbrook 5.
Wow.
By the way, if you didn't, if you didn't check it out, check out my blog, Sports790.com.
Oh, okay.
You check out the interview with Chris Paul.
Thank you.
It's good stuff.
Appreciate it.
Okay, yeah, LeBron James is like under 200 behind Jason Kidd.
Oh, he's 600 behind Chris Paul.
He's not getting there.
unless he just plays two more years.
James Hardin 12th. He's climbing.
LeBron James, all-time leader in points.
Where is he on rebounds, LeBron James?
He's 23rd.
That's the craziest thing.
People talk about Hardin.
Oh, he's a ball hog.
Ball hog.
Guy's going to finish top 10 and assists in the NBA.
He's already top 10 in points as well.
Ballhog.
He's coming for Willett Chamberlain and points.
Dude, Wilts down to 8th.
Wow.
That's crazy.
How about Kevin Durant, James Hardin, and Russell Westbrook are all top 14 in all-time points,
and they played together and never won a championship.
Hardin, Westbrook, Durant, all 5th, 9th, and 14th in all-time points,
started their careers together, made one NBA finals.
Duran's 64th and all-time assists.
I would have thought he would have been higher than that.
64th, really?
He's not that big of an assist guy.
All right, quick break here on the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
We'll go into on-deck mode coming up at 1 o'clock.
So you have a segment to go if you want to get in.
It's 7-13-212-5-790.
7-13-212-5-7-90.
All right, I've got to stop looking at these.
Mike Vrable and Diana Reesini memes.
So wait, break it down.
They're in where?
Like Phoenix or something?
Arizona somewhere.
So why is Mike Vrable there, presumably not with his family, right?
Yes.
Like, what's Vrabel's excuse for getting away to Phoenix?
Is it supposed to be a guy's trip?
They're saying that they were on separate trips and happened to run into each other.
Why is Mike, is he there with his family or by himself?
How is he?
I don't.
I think this is not where the owner's meetings are.
Right.
Brins Mesa Mountain Range.
Where is that?
Is this in Arizona somewhere?
I don't know.
Yeah.
Sedona, Arizona.
Sedona, Arizona.
a boutique resort set against the breathtaking Bryn's Mesa mountain range.
Now, they kind of, they're, man, I would need to see now video of this.
I'm talking about the interaction, not of anything else.
Like, it looks kind of bad.
They hug.
And then later on, they're sitting next to each other at the pool and kind of just laughing.
But they're not on each other or near each other, really.
If there was no hug.
Now, that could have been them just running into each other for the first time.
Oh, hey, I didn't know you were here.
Oh, wow, that's crazy.
You're at this boutique resort in the middle of nowhere in Arizona.
Rucini, a source close to Rucini.
This is all from page six, and that is some kind of tabloid, right?
Yeah, it says they had breakfast on the patio.
She was on a hiking trip with two female pals.
Okay, so that's why she's there.
Why is he there?
One of Rable's friends told page six that they had the coach drove up to Sedona for the day
with another pal and they all drove back to their own hotel some two hours away after
hanging out with Rossini and her gang.
Okay, so he's on a trip with a buddy and maybe sees on her Instagram post, hey, you're
right up the road from me.
Yeah, why don't you come on drive up here?
Two hours?
I don't you drive two hours for.
But what I'm saying is I need facts here.
We're putting the facts out.
Okay.
There was a world where this is just innocent friends meeting for a friendly meetup.
Yes.
There is not a smoking gun here.
There's not pictures of them fornicating.
So I don't know.
Now here's the real test.
Did he tell, is there a text from him to his wife going, hey,
hey, I was just talking with Diana.
She's up the road.
We're going to go, me and Jim are going to drive up there and go see her.
Dude, they're uncovering all these videos.
There's videos of like Rusini,
talking about how her husband is average looking.
Oh, no.
There's videos of Rossini and Rable.
Like, it's looking pretty flirtatious.
And she's like, hey, what's been the best part of your birthday so far?
It's not good.
Photos show the two hugging at sunset and weaving their fingers together.
Yeah.
As they stand face to face.
That's not a good look.
The interlocking fingers, not great.
They briefly danced together.
According to one source.
Okay, that's not good.
I mean, if I had, we're speculating here.
If I had to guess, it just, it doesn't look good.
I'll just leave it at that.
Yeah, Rossini was staying at the hotel during a hiking trip with two female friends.
One of Vrabel's friends said,
they in the coach drove up for the day to Sedona with another pal,
and they all drove back to their own hotel two hours away.
People are finding these videos of like Diana Rossini talking about how teams have been impressed with his physical stature and dominating presence.
It's not good.
They found all these stories she was breaking when he was with the Titans.
Yeah, I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
I think the, what do they call that circumstantial evidence?
I think the circumstantial evidence is piling up.
There's no smoking gun.
But if you look at all, people are on.
covering all these reports and videos. It's crazy.
We're going to watch out for these Twitter sleuths, dude.
You know who's loving it, though? Steve Sarkisian.
Why? Because remember, she's the one that broke that he was going to go to the Tennessee Titans and all that.
Yeah. That's funny. All right. Anywho, something to keep an eye on, I guess.
Jay in Spring. What's going on, Jay?
Hey, y'all doing, fellas, man.
I'm doing great. I just want to speak about the Rockets real quick.
I might be in a minority, but for me,
the Rock is getting out of the first round
would be a successful season,
considering the circumstances.
And so I'm just wondering
do other folks feel to say.
I know we all have championships,
but of course,
realistic speaking that ain't going to happen.
So for me,
giving me something to look forward to next year
with Fred coming back
and whatever trade we make,
just getting out the first round
with the circumstances that they have,
you know,
the cars we've been dealt.
to me would be a success.
Anything beyond that would be great.
So in the case, what I'm calling to ask you is,
do you foresee us getting out the first round,
depending on who the opponent is,
and do you foresee us,
what do you think it would take to get to the Western Conference finals?
Would that be, generally speaking in playoffs,
you want your stars to max out,
like go beyond what they did in the regular season?
I think the only person who could do that,
Would it be KD and Singoon.
So do you foresee a situation like that?
And how would you look at the season?
Would it be a failure to y'all?
A success?
Yeah, I think first round, getting to the second round would be pretty much a success.
While the games are happening and we're watching them lose potentially in the second round series to probably the Oklahoma City Thunder, it's not going to feel like success.
But once it's all over and you let the dust settle, I would probably say it was a good season because you had no,
Fred Van Vleet. You had no
Stephen Adams. And it also matters
how they look. Like if they get swept and
lose by 30 in every game, that's obviously one thing
Jay, right? Like how competitive are they going to be?
How are the guys going to look?
But yeah, if you're going to surprise,
as of right now, it would be a first round series
of the Lakers. If they lose that, it would be a failure,
especially if Luke Dodgis is not playing, which
he's not going to. So if
they win that, that would be a most tragic thing.
That would be a massive disappointment?
But let's say they, would they pair
with the thunder in the next round?
Yes, they will. See, that's what sucks is. That's where you're not going to expect them to beat them.
It would take not only what you're talking about, Kevin Durant and Alper and Shingoon being great, Jay, you're going to need like a 30-point game randomly from Reed Shepard.
Like where he's 8 to 10 from 3 and he's knocking down everything and you squeak out a win.
Because that's what can happen in playoff series, right? You can have like, I don't know if we want to go back to the Lakers back in the day, the Derek Fisher game or a or a Robert Orie game or some other role player and some other, I don't know,
whoever, it was like white chocolate,
Jason William for the heat.
But your studs were consistent.
We just mentioned those.
Those Jalen Green performances last year were.
He had the 38 game,
but then he had dud, dud, dud.
Right.
You're going to need both.
Durant and Shungood have to be hit, hit, hit every night
and then have those extra nights of other guys stepping up.
You're going to need, absolutely.
Durant's going for 30, 35.
And then, oh, my God, Tar Heeson had 25 tonight.
And he was like five of seven from three.
is incredible.
Holiday comes in off the bench.
He knocked down five threes, you know.
Yeah, you're going to need something like that
if you're going to beat the Oklahoma City Thunder.
You're going to need that to happen like two or three times
because the Thunder are just that good.
They're going to be better than you.
Now, the Spurs, I think, it's still a tough matchup for you.
They're still awesome.
You're going to need less of that, but they're going to win.
They've already won 60 games.
Rockets in their franchise history have won 60 games once.
Refresh me on it. Let's say Nuggets are 3-seat.
Let's say the six-seat beats them.
they don't recede, right?
No, they don't reset in the end of the end.
So you're just, it's a bracket.
So you're 4-5, you're getting the thunder around two no matter of one.
They should recede, but I guess it kind of could,
different series get off schedule and stuff like that.
All right, that's going to do it for the Matt Thomas show with Ross Gordy.
Thanks for hanging out.
