Lunch timers.
This is the Matt Thomas show.
10.4 in Hitchtown.
Good morning, everyone.
And welcome to the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Gordy filling in.
This is Sports Talk 790.
McKeele-Ly-Long's inner walker gets a ball stripped at mid-court by Amin Thompson.
Uncontested for a two-hand jam.
The steel, the put-back, and the rockets have put together a nice run here.
Least 40 to 35.
Down to 7, down to 6.
Jason giving it back to Smith.
Back out towards mid-court.
Fred's got three.
Scott two's going to try a 35-footer.
It is up, and it's on the way it in as the buzzer goes off.
A full 24 off the clock.
Rockets up by six at 43, 37.
At the right elbow, poked away by Matt Thompson, and he steals it.
With 40 seconds left, a man one-on-one in the window, goes up and scores to tie the game.
The steel runs down the floor to even it up at 102.
Bamblite, bounce past Shangoon at the free throw line.
One-on-one against Gobert, dotted circle, throws it up.
Over his right shoulder and puts it in for two.
A huge layup for Alperin Shangoon, who has 18 second points.
Timeout, Minnesota.
There's a free-throw jumper made, basket up and good for Dillingham, but it will not matter.
Rockets, win it.
One-17, 11, and overtime.
and pick up their 13th one of the season.
They are undefeated in Group A.
They win that division.
And it's on to the next round of the NBA in-season Emirates NBA Cup.
Gordy, I'm already making more plans for Vegas, baby.
One step at a time, but I'm taking two steps.
That was a lot of fun last night.
Ooh.
I had the multi-TV going on.
I had the coogs on one, rockets on the other.
I like to sporadically pull up
I heart and listen to the Matt Thomas call.
That's what I'm talking about.
That's what I'm talking about.
Hey, you got to help me out because I was watching the rocket.
I was calling the Rockets game.
All my Cougar brethren are bitching him on about college officiating.
Wake me up when a college officiating isn't a problem.
Well, you know, look, put it this way.
The Cougs are undefeated against anyone, not from an SEC.
Oh, Jesus.
Come on.
I knew that was coming.
What is it wrong with you?
I know you're a honk for SEC.
football. Are you a hung for SEC baseball, too?
I mean, basketball too? They've gotten pretty good,
man. There's some pretty good powers there.
No shame in those two losses to the cooks.
Well, I want to win them, though. I mean, I don't
mind beating up on
you know,
Hofstra and God knows who else
we play the rest of the way, but I want to beat a good one.
Nobody's more punchable
than old
what's Nate Oates.
Oh my God, that guy.
Biggest debagging sports.
Is that right?
Yeah, remember last year when they beat the coogs?
He went out to put it, like, when Kelvin Samson was losing his crap on the refs,
and Natoz goes to mid court and puts his hand out, he's like, oh, where are you?
You're supposed to shake my hand.
Oh, my God.
Yeah, you know what?
I'm so happy you still have hatred for Alabama in a matter what it is.
You probably hate the gymnastics team, too, don't you?
Yeah, softball.
They all suck.
Cross country.
Sucks.
All right, we have a super busy show today.
And we, I'm in Philadelphia, by the way.
A little sleep deprived, but the energy is still good.
You know, it's sad about Michael Jackson.
I mean, what would you put him on the upper echelon of just performers of all time?
I mean, like one of the five greatest we've ever in our lifetime.
Is that, Gordy?
Is that fair to say?
Yeah, we were talking about that recently about how much Taylor Swift was making, like,
if Michael Jackson were still alive and he were doing a world tour,
I think he'd be making, maybe not as much as Taylor,
but it would be somewhere on that spectrum.
And the worst part of it is he had such a terrible life
and, I mean, the inappropriateness of a lot of his life
and the relationships and granted,
he had a lot of family issues or whatnot,
but I can do this, and maybe I shouldn't do this,
but I can separate his warped personal life
from his professional singing career,
and I can listen to Michael Jackson all day long.
By the way, I think it was yesterday
It was the anniversary of the dangerous album coming out.
Adam Clinton admitted it was the first album he ever bought.
Who was your first album you ever bought?
TLC, Crazy, Sexy Cool.
That's the same for me.
That's the first one I bought.
You don't believe me, do you?
Waterfalls, great hit.
Yeah.
Actually, you know, the first album I ever bought was probably Chicago 16.
What did that have?
A heart habit to break.
You're the inspiration.
Oh, inspiration's a good one.
That's a good song.
All right.
Gordy, we have a...
action-pack show. We have your friend
Brian Billick's going to join us at 11 o'clock today.
Maybe he's going to help us diagnose what's going wrong with the Houston
Texans. We got shut your bum ass up at 1130.
We have the news at noon today, which probably, since you're doing
it, probably nothing but SEC headlines.
1230, EMAIDOC is going to join us. Dr. Rodo for half an hour
at 1 o'clock. We have the rotten 5 at 130, believe it or not, at
150 today. And by the way, you're going to have to help me out
because you are Mr. ACC, and that's what we love you,
Have you made a prediction yet on the A&M Texas game for Saturday night?
Not official prediction yet.
Would you have an unofficial prediction?
I kind of shared some thoughts with the Salisbury Show.
Oh, were they mad at you?
No.
Okay.
Let me ask you this.
You know my family is all Aggie all the way through, except by Cameron, who hates the Aggies.
Because it is just to piss his brother off.
Can the Aggies win this game?
Absolutely.
Really?
They are, I would make a case they are more battle-tested.
with the opponents they've played,
then the weak-ass soft schedule that Texas got.
Okay, all right.
Now, are you going to make a prediction with us,
or are you going to save it for another show?
Yeah, no, I'll make it here.
Okay, very good.
We are with you today.
If you watch the Rockets or listen to it,
and want to brag about the local basketball team,
we are going to the knockout round of the tournament.
It's not Vegas yet,
but you go to the quarterfinals.
The Rockets will be no worse than a two-seed for that knockout run,
I think because of what the Phoenix sends did to the Lakers last night.
So there will be a home game at least next week in the knockout round.
Actually, when the Rockets get back from the West Coast trip,
and then after that, if they win the knockout game, they'll go to Vegas.
And that's where I think, Gordy, I mean, I know I have eye heart as large budgeting.
I think the entire staff should go do a whole couple days, three days of shows in Vegas.
Wait, so explain this to me.
They're not set for Vegas yet.
They still have to play another home game.
They have to play another knockout game, and I believe it's going to be a home game.
What does knockout game mean?
All right, so you have six groups, right, of four.
five teams.
Three in the east, three in the west.
Yes.
Each of the group winners advances, and then the next best record in that conference.
So there's four teams per conference.
Okay?
Yeah, kind of.
I'm following you.
One plays four, two plays three, and what they call the knockout game.
And what happens if you lose?
If you win that knockout game, you'll then play the other semifinal game in Las Vegas.
Okay.
And if you win that game, you play for the first.
final in Las Vegas.
What if you win the knockout game?
You're going to Vegas. If you lose a knockout game, you're just going to play one more
game against somebody else. But it won't be, it won't be in Vegas.
Selfishly, Viva Las Vegas, baby. That's all I'm saying.
Yeah, when you have to take five minutes to explain this thing, I don't know if the NBA is.
Oh, it's not that difficult. Oh, by the way, speaking to that, why don't you explain the NCAA
the football college football rankings yesterday and now? Yeah, I'll do it very simply.
They are doing whatever the hell they want in that committee room.
All right, we're going to come back and talk about that.
Rockets on the chatter, NCAA.
The football rankings are out from yesterday.
713-212-5-790 is how you reach a show.
Don't know if you want to get in.
7-13-212-5-7-9.
Texas is in a practice field getting ready for Jacksonville.
Brian Billick's going to talk some Texans with us coming up in about 45 minutes.
It is the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Ross today is in Columbia.
And Gordy is phoned in for him today with us, and he'll be with us until 2 o'clock.
We want you guys with us as well, and ladies, until 2 o'clock as well.
713-21-5-790, 1013 on Sports Talk 790.
More Matt Thomas now.
On Sports Talk 790.
1019 on Sports Talk 790.
Matt Thomas with you from Philadelphia.
Gordy is in our Houston studios.
Connor Montgomery is the producer of the radio program today.
He'll have the rotten 5-4s coming up in a couple of hours from now.
We want you with us all throughout the show, whether you're just listening,
driving around, going to get your last second Thanksgiving items.
and you can join us on the phone.
It's at 713-212-5-790.
7-1-3-2-1-2-5-7-90.
A lot of you are off this week
and don't normally get a chance to call the show.
If you are in one of those spots,
I want to come say hi,
you are more than welcome to do that.
Again, it's 7-1-3-2-1-2-5-7.
Gordy real quick, before we get back to sports,
I'm adding one thing to my Thanksgiving food for tomorrow.
I've never had cranberry until, like, the last couple of years.
I kind of like it.
I wouldn't eat it every day,
but the mix with the turkey and stuff, I can do it.
like the cranberry sauce thing yeah yeah i'm i'm out on that it adds a little sweetness to it
it's not again i wouldn't sit there and have a bowl of cranberrying oh this is the most delicious
thing of all time but it's not bad yeah i'm a little i'm more traditional give me the turkey
stuffing potatoes macaroni whatever too many carbs gordon we got to back off the card a little bit
i'm good i have a no green policy on thanksgiving what i mean no green bean casserole well just no
greens.
At all?
You're green free?
We're carb loading.
You know what?
Tomorrow's a car bloating day.
Just knock it out.
713,
212-790.
So the Rockets won last night.
My Cougars fell.
And I don't know
if you guys know this.
But the Cougars are playing what they call,
I think it's called the Players' Era tournament.
Yeah.
And this is where the players go
and they get money just for playing in this thing.
and it looked like to me the photos I took I saw of it
the bottom of the arena was not even full
they didn't even open the upper deck
yeah I mean that's the weird thing
that I've been trying to wrap my head around for years
and it's the same thing with bowl games
they have these bowl games and there's like five fans in the stands
they don't care they get their money from the TV contracts
so ESPN writes a check and you know for whatever it is
the good year cotton bowl or whatever
they don't care about ticket sales.
So it seems like the same thing with these basketball tournaments.
They sold the rights to TBS and TNT, and they got paid.
They don't care people.
But how much did they really spend?
I mean, no disrespect to college basketball, but I feel like I'm going to disrespect
him.
Look, the NBA can't even get on people's radars right now.
How the hell is college basketball going on the radar at this point?
I mean, look, everybody I saw on Twitter last night, we're watching these games.
Okay, well, you know what?
If TNT and TBS have this money to spend, God love them.
That's good.
I think the Cougars play tonight at 1130.
Ooh.
I'll be just getting back from Philadelphia,
be able to watch the second half.
Will they play UNC?
No, they're playing Notre Dame.
Okay.
But bottom line is this,
is that, and I don't know how this financing works out,
before anybody claims a dollar off this bad boy,
you've got to pay these teams between a half million and a million bucks.
And I know this is a small.
sensitive subject for you because your school did not pay enough of that Michigan quarterback
to come back to Baton Rouge after all. I felt a little bit better yesterday. Did you see the video
that Portnoy put out? No. Basically, this is the just if I went. Portnoy said, I will pay a couple
million to get a kid here. And he basically said, he got a phone call from a big Michigan
person who said, let me put you in touch with this woman. He talks to this woman. She happens to be the
wife of Larry Ellison, the CEO
of Oracle, who apparently is the second
richest person in the world. Yes.
She said, you know, I was looking for
somebody to put up some money with me. My husband's
in. The three of them get on a call
and decide, we're going to put up this money together.
Then they themselves
get on a call with Bryce Underwood and his parents.
Nowhere in here was Sharon
more involved. The
AD of Michigan, nobody from
Michigan was involved in this. This was just a rich
billionaire deciding to write a check for
his wife's alma mater. Not even his
alma mater. Well, you know, they can't be involved
directly. They can kind of
pass along to the collective, but they can't,
you can't have a coach on a call talking
about a free agent contract? Well,
they kind of can now, because the revenue
sharing is about to start, where the school
can literally share the revenue with the players.
So they can very soon.
Oof.
I just don't like, I mean, this just becomes
the haves and the have-nots.
When did that change? When did the
have-nots ever become a have?
Well, because, you know, it used to be
$100 handshakes behind closed doors and things like that.
But now you talk about CEOs, a billionaire CEOs, can get involved.
And again, we should explain this again and really dumb it down.
The wife of the Oracle leader is a Michigan fan.
She's the one that's helping Portnoy cut the check for this kid in Detroit to stay at Michigan.
And by the way, Portnoy said he asked her when she was at Michigan.
She said when Brady Hoke was the coach.
That was a decade ago.
So she is much younger than Larry Ellison.
Well, does that come as any surprise?
I mean, please.
Her whole reasoning was they loved that Michigan won the national championship.
And she's like, I can't stand not being the best team in the country.
So that's what kind of sucks about this.
I rooted for Michigan to win that championship over Washington.
I wish Washington had won that.
Because it's because they had that little taste of success and won the title that they went overboard.
And they're like, let's spend money.
But let me ask you this, because the deal for LSU was $10.5 million.
Right. Who's paying that from LSU?
I mean, they have the collectives and all this stuff, but like they did it the quote unquote right way, right?
Like they invested the three years into courting this kid.
The kid last week was wearing an LSU chain saying, I don't care that they just lost to Florida.
I am firm in my commitment to LSU.
But what do you do when a billionaire calls you and goes, we want to give you and your family the most money you've ever had?
You got to take it.
I don't blame the kid.
No, of course.
I mean, $12 million to go to a better school and stay home.
And the $12 million is what they're giving publicly, Matt.
Like I've been told behind closed doors,
they've told the family, we'll take care of you, whatever you want,
we'll get you a house, like all that kind of stuff is being done behind the scenes.
So it's the $12 million is what he's going to make over the four years.
They're going to get way more than that.
And we're supposed to still love college athletics.
Is that what you're telling me?
Well, I mean, look, for the last decade plus,
this sport has gone from making millions to making billions,
and it's these guys sitting up in their ivory towers
keep pocketing all the money while the kids don't make anything.
So I'm fine with the kids making money.
It's just, it's turning into a business now.
It is.
So, yeah, there it is.
And the question I have,
and I'm speaking on behalf of most of college football fans,
how's my school going to stay with this?
Now, granted, we did fire our offensive coordinator yesterday,
and we paid out $750,000 of the guy,
and that came from a private donation.
So somebody just cut a check at you of age for $750,
whoever that is, call in and give yourself credit.
You helped us out, I think.
I mean, the good news is at least you've got Tillman, you've got Mattress Mac, you've got, you've got some folks.
What does Tulsa do?
You know, like, what does Toledo do?
Like, they're screwed.
You can't compete.
Well, how about, I mean, most of the Power 5s, I mean, does, let me give an example, does
who would be a Power 5 that would be, does Missouri have that kind of cash?
does Wisconsin have the kind of I mean I don't know I mean we don't I mean
they're finding ways to do it but it's just crazy how much is just being spent in
this year for NIL and collectives and buying outs and that kid from Detroit now staying
in Detroit for an extra couple of milly well that's why Brian Kelly made a statement a few weeks
ago where he was like look at the end of day we still have to talk about football here
like we still have to say we're going to get you to the league we're going to develop
you like that still has to be part of the conversation outside of what are you paying me
Yeah, well, I don't know if they're really worried about it at this point.
713-212-5-790.
7-1-3-212-5-790.
We will get a perspective of a former NFL coach, Brian Billick,
on what he is seeing right now with the Houston Texans
and their struggles over the last handful of weeks.
That's coming up in one half hour.
Rockets with a very nice win last night.
Cougars drop one.
And when we return, Gordy, we've got a brand new pitcher back in the National League West
with a new deal.
who that is and how much he's getting.
As the Matt Thomas show with Ross continues,
Gordy's back in Houston.
I'm here in Philadelphia.
713-212-5-790.

1033 Sports Talk, 790, Matt Thomas.
We do from Philadelphia, Gordy's back at our Houston studios.
We have a very busy show with lots of guests and lots of fun stuff between now and 2 o'clock this afternoon.
We want you to join us.
That will include Dr. Roto, Brian Billick, The Rotten 5, and Dr. Roto in the 1 o'clock hour.
713-212-5-7.90.
congratulations, Gordie.
Blake Snell is staying in the National League West.
It's about times something good happened for the Dodgers.
You know, I mean, they just, they've been through it, you know, the grind of, you know, having to get Chey O'O.
Tani and then having to figure out the financials of how to defer that money for years later.
I mean, I took a lot of time to figure all that out.
So I'm just happy something good happened for those Dodgers.
Yeah, five-year deal for Blake Snell to go from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
it is worth $182 million.
I don't even know how much of that's deferred.
I don't particularly care,
but if you defer everything in your life,
I mean, Gordy, if you put everything on layaway,
don't you eventually get into some serious trouble in life?
But they don't care.
I mean, the report immediately came out after this
that they're still not out of the Juan Soto sweepstakes.
And if that happens, I mean, just go and pack it in.
Like, what's the, if you're the Astros,
you're like, what's the point even playing the season
when that team is already, like,
loading it up with the best players in baseball.
Yeah. All right. So Cacucci goes
to the Angels. Blake Snow
goes to the Dodgers, which means,
you ready for your Astros rotation right this moment
if it was the season would start today?
Frumber,
Hunter, Blanco,
Araggetti, maybe
Garcia, maybe Lance McCullors.
You don't get Christian Javier until middle of the season.
And maybe Vorlander
and maybe somebody else we don't know of at this point.
Yeah, I don't know on the Verlander thing.
I don't know if that's wise spending money.
Maybe the Jim Crane Golf Factor is way bigger than we thought it would be.
Now, the front of that rotation is not bad.
I mean, Frumber, Ronell, Hunter Brown, I mean, that's pretty strong.
Yeah.
Ergetti came around last year.
I mean, you know, as the year one long, he had some really good outings.
I think we are going to see upside with him.
I think he went through typical rookie growing pains in his first season.
I think also, don't forget J.P. France.
I have not heard of timetable yet on him on when he'll be back, but he'll be back at some point.
And then they're really high on Ryan Gusto, Colton Gordon.
I mean, those guys are going to pitch this year.
Yeah, I have a feeling that we're going to have to do a lot of homework on this pitching staff
because there's going to be some names.
I mean, somebody is going to take the next step up that we don't even know about at this point.
AJ Blueball.
not going to be ready.
Yeah, it's, and I didn't expect Blank'snell to be any sort of astro sweepstakes.
I'm not saying that, but it's just, I mean, the Dodgers went from good to great in their starting rotation.
This is stupid.
Like, why could, like, where are the Reds?
You know, where's, like, somebody like that?
Come get Blancke's Lell.
Like, why?
Some of the Dodgers, really?
Because the Reds don't care about doing this.
The Reds don't want to go over the luxury threshold.
These teams don't want to do it.
They don't have the money for it.
Well, the Dodgers are going so far over.
What do I see?
They're like 80 million in the luxury tax.
Like, that's insane.
Yeah, I don't, it don't even know.
I mean, there's a huge part of me that wishes there was a hard cap like there is in the NFL.
Because then you'd really give a chance to, you'd allow some teams, your lower market end teams to stay competitive.
But you know who doesn't want that?
The owners don't want that.
The Los Angeles Dodgers ownership group, the Yankees don't want that.
For that matter, Jim Crane.
Jim Crane doesn't want to be battling with the Royals and the Royals.
Reds and the Pirates for Supremacy and Baseball.
They understand you're going to have to do that when you're going against the Yankees
and Red Sox and the Cubs and the Dodgers because they're big spending teams.
But that's enough.
Wouldn't you say baseball is the one sport?
Like I feel like majority of owners in the NFL want to win.
And, you know, we've got some owners that are probably like, yeah, whatever, win or lose.
We're still making money.
NBA, I feel kind of the same way.
Baseball feels like it's the one sport with the most owners that don't give a damn.
they're like, I'm profiting, and that's all I care about.
Well, I would say the A's certainly feel that way.
Because they all turn to profit, despite the fact that no one went to their games.
I do believe that the raise feel that way.
And by the way, there is some trouble with their new stadium being backed up a year,
and the folks in the race in the city of St. Petersburg are not getting along on that.
I can't paint a broad brush on every team in baseball.
I just know that I think Jim Crane wants to win.
Now, there's going to be a certain threshold and a certain level that he has to kind of say it, you know,
enough's enough in terms of length of contract and dollars.
But he has always been a guy that has been willing to spend.
He went over the threshold this year.
I mean, again, I could throw a number out.
I mean, do 15 teams really give a damn or do 15 teams want to be profitable?
In the NFL, here's the crazy thing about it, Gordon.
If you're the worst run organization in the NFL, what would that be?
Jacksonville, pretty much, close?
Carolina.
Carolina?
you're still making money hand over fist.
You can't screw that up.
Your television deals in itself make you gazillions of dollars every year.
Yeah, that's just the tough part of owning a team.
You wish every owner would be as die-hard and ardent as a fan is, but they're just not.
And that's what sucks about it.
It's like you almost wish a fan.
That's what's cool about Green Bay, where the fans can own a snake in the Packers.
ownership. Like, you, you wish everybody was that passionate about your team being successful. And that's what
sucks. It's like, at the end of the day, it's a business. And a rich billionaire wants to own your team,
he's not committed to winning. There's no, when he signs that deal, there's no commitment to winning.
Yeah. But even though you're really rich and you want to win doesn't necessarily it's going to
translate. I mean, I think Jerry Jones wants to win. I just think he just continues to bumble the
salary cap and misstep on drafts and not spend money on free agency. I believe that Jerry wants to
win. So how does the rest of the league let this happen? How do you allow the Dodgers?
to come in and create a monopoly and gather all the best players.
Well, it would then take, it would take the other 12 or 13 owners that are in the
Had-Nock category that had no chance of getting Blake's nail under any circumstance
and saying, hey, we've got to do this for the good of that sport.
And the Dodgers and the Yankees are going to thumb their nose of those teams.
Say, you know what? You take your dollars.
You take what we give you and you like it.
But maybe that's to your central point is that maybe the owners of those teams are just
there to turn the profit.
and if they win, it's a bonus.
Is Snell's agent Boris still?
I believe it is, yeah.
I don't know.
Boris has lost some guys and gained some guys.
I know he gained Hunter Brown.
I know he lost Jordan Montgomery.
I don't know if it was,
if Snell was still a part of that.
But this is the deal that I think Blake Snell wanted last year that couldn't get it.
And I think Blake Snell basically told whoever's representing him, whether it's
Boris or not, we're not waiting until March.
We're going to get in and get this deal done right away.
Yeah, Scott Boris is.
at least from what I'm reading, is still his agent.
So does that do anything, any kind of trickle effect here with Bregman?
No, I think it's, I think it's, we've got to figure out where Juan Soto's going,
who spends that.
The overriding thought is that the Boston Red Sox have tried to get in on some people,
and they're kind of building a reputation for a team that's not going to spend money,
that people are still bent about the fact that they never poninged up to keep Moogie bets,
and that maybe they're the ones that will go out and make a splashy hire before,
before this free agency period is over with.
Yeah, I saw a Red Sox fan this morning on Twitter saying, you know, there was a report.
It was like, the Red Sox were in on this guy and this guy.
They're like, well, as long as we were in on them, you know, we didn't sign anybody,
but we had some really good negotiations there.
That's like I was in on marrying Scarlett Johansson.
I mean, I was in on it.
I didn't get to, but I was in on it.
I just, look, we want the asteros to stay, to stay relevant.
still want to keep this proverbial window open.
But man, it's just when you look at what other teams are doing, you start to go,
oh, well, I'm saying this before.
Thank God, God, God, Snell's in the National League.
I'm going to worry about him, just one series per year and maybe a World Series.
Who knows?
It's true.
I just don't want, I don't believe Alex is coming back to Houston.
I just can't fathom him being, A, in an American League West, period.
But if he's in American League West, that would be doubly bad.
And if he goes to the Yankees, it'd be triply bad.
And you saw, I'm sure you've seen on social.
media that Ms. Reagan-Bregman is pregnant again.
Well, good for her.
So, baby number two on the way.
Alex, definitely not taking a hometown discount at this point.
Yeah, but we talked about that earlier this week, Gordy.
Who's taking hometown discounts anymore, honestly?
Was that too they?
Okay, there's one.
But it's on a handful.
It's on one hand, people are doing this.
LeBron.
LeBron did it be because, no, LeBron didn't take a hometown.
discount. He's taking a little bit less than he could get.
He's taking a Bronny discount. You bring Bronny to this team and let him compete with me and play
with me a handful of times. I'll stay with you. 1042 on Sports Talk 790. It is the Matt
Thomas show with Ross Gordy and today with me. Brian Billick's going to join us in about 20 minutes
to get into some Texans conversation. What did you watch last night? Did you watch the Cougars
game? Now again, it's hard because college basketball just doesn't resonate, but I'm curious
if anybody that happened to be flipping around, if you caught that, did you see the Rockets last
night with her impressive performance.
Another triple double for Alper and Shingoon.
Gordy, I was in security line with Alpi last night, and I said the exact thing.
I said, Alpi, can you get us a triple double?
You know what his first response was to me?
Tonight?
He went after Rudy Gobert, and it was fun to watch.
We'll discuss that.
And Brian Billick at the top of the hour, Sports Talk 790 at 713212-5-790.

Now.
On Sports Talk 790.
Already in with me today.
I'm here in Philadelphia.
For it's 45 degrees.
It was a 25 degree warm up
from where we were yesterday in Minneapolis.
I don't know how I did it.
I don't know.
Great city, nice people, but too damn cold.
Brutal.
And the Rockets be the Wolf last night.
So that was even better.
All right, that was a playing tournament game,
so they were not playing,
but an in-season tournament game.
So they'll go to the knockout round,
and we'll have that coming up.
But tonight's Rockets in Philadelphia will have the launch pad at 5.530 pregame show and tip time just a little past 6 o'clock here from Philadelphia.
All right. So Gordy, we got some interesting college football this weekend.
You were in front of the television last night when the college football rankings came out.
What were your first blushed thoughts about this?
This committee has no real set of guidelines for how they're doing this thing.
I mean, here's the thing, Matt.
It was supposed to be, they said a few weeks ago that they didn't look at,
we don't look at any of the other polls.
We don't look at the AP poll, the coaches poll, none of that.
And yet when they came out with their first batch of rankings,
it was almost identical to the AP poll.
So that's BS.
Two, this thing's supposed to change dramatically week to week.
And yet we've seen silly things where a team gets a win over a top 25 opponent
and doesn't move up at all the rankings.
We saw last week where Alabama beat.
Mercer and moved up three spots.
You know, they just, they do weird
things. And then last night,
Ward Emanuel gets up there
and explains basically downplay's
strength of schedule
as, you know, as a thing
last night, basically says, oh, you know,
you can only play who's on your schedule.
You really can't, you can't control that.
When literally, the
committee's checklist, the very first
item on their protocol, is strength
of schedule. That has to matter.
If you play, if you're
Georgia and you've played five top 25
opponents that weighs more
than Indiana who's played one top
25 opponent and got their butt-wopped.
Yet they're not
changing the rankings because of it.
The committee, I tweeted this all last night, the committee
sent one big message. Just win.
We don't care who you beat. We don't care
if you've played nobody good.
Just win because all we're going to do is
reward wins over losses.
And I think that's so stupid because the college basketball
tournament does that.
Do you V. Cougars just lost to Auburn and Alabama
in college basketball.
But at the end of the year, they might be a one or two seed because they're going to go,
give them credit for playing tough opponents.
Yet football is the complete opposite.
So who's in that room?
Do we know who's in that room, generally speaking?
A bunch of morons.
I mean, are they good?
I'm they like ex-football coaches, administrators, are they a bunch of geeks?
What's going on in that room?
I can look it up.
Years ago, you had like, who was the old political woman that went to Stanford?
Condoleza Rice.
So I think's really good.
No, they've got, it's a bunch of old guys.
Like Ward Manuel from Michigan, Mac Roads is on that group.
Oh.
I mean, you're going to talk about just dumbasses.
We got a bunch of dumbasses.
You just called Mac Roads of dumbass?
Wow.
I didn't stutter.
That feels aggressive.
Okay, so let's do this here.
If we take the conference champions, Oregon,
presuming they would be over Ohio State,
we would then take Texas would represent the SEC.
And again, we're just going off a range.
here.
Right.
Miami would be the third.
And then the next highest ranked conference champion would be the Boise State Broncos.
Yeah, Mountain West.
Because you're presuming the Big 12 champ will be ranked behind them.
Yeah, because right now the Big 12 champ is the highest ranked big 12 team is ASU at 16.
Yeah.
So is Boise going to host somebody really awesome?
Well, they're going to have a buy.
So they're going to play the winner of what?
Yeah, I mean, they would play on a neutral side against, you know.
Okay, so there's no crazy-ass home game in Boise.
No.
Unless they drop out of the top, unless they don't win the conference and they're the lowest,
unless the Big 12 winner jumps them at some point in this ranking thing.
Yeah.
Yeah, Colorado really screwed the pooch.
If they'd have beaten Kansas yesterday or on Saturday, they'd be in the driver's seat.
I think everybody would like to see Colorado win, the Dion factor and all that.
And then Ole Miss and Alabama screwed themselves over too last week, like by losing to a nobody.
If they had been in there, they'd be in this conversation too.
And so, yeah, I get it.
I just, it kills me that Texas is sitting here as a three seed.
They've avoided every good team in the SEC except Georgia, and they lost to Georgia by double-kish.
Okay, so let me ask you this.
And this week's obligatory who got screwed.
Who is right now in college football really pissed?
Well, I mean, look, the teams that have taken a third loss can only be mad at themselves.
Right.
But I just, I mean, my biggest problem here is the automatic moving the conference champs to the front of the line, I think, is silly.
It should just be one through 12.
Whoever you have ranked 1 through 12, that should be the 12 teams.
None of this automatic qualifier and all this other bull crap.
So you're saying even if you win a championship in your league, you should not be guaranteed a spot in the top 12.
Is that what you're trying to tell?
Because if you're a seven, if you're an 8 and 5 conference champion, you shouldn't just automatically move to the front of the line.
and A&M can
in theory do that because if A&M beats Texas
they go to the SEC championship game
Now they're 20th
So if they beat Texas this week
Presumably you'd probably move them up to what?
11 or 12
And then if they beat George in the SEC championship
Yeah they'd become a top 10 team
And so yeah they would be a lock for a top four seed
But it would still be a three lost team in there though
Yeah but at least they'd have quality wins to back up their three losses
Right
I think they're the only one at this point
And if Texas loses this weekend, they're out of the SEC championship.
But at 10 and 2, I think Texas is a very sexy team.
We'd be talking about a first round game at DKR next week, you know, the week after.
All right.
Is there any two-loss team that is more deserving than a one-loss team right now that's not going to get in?
I think Tulane.
I think Tulane's been awesome this year.
Their two non-conference losses were on the road, I think, or against two really good teams.
It was Kansas State and Oklahoma.
They lost two.
That's right.
I think that's a better
Tulane to me has got a better resume
than Indiana.
Indiana, by the way, dropped from
5 to 10.
So the loss to Ohio State
really didn't hurt him that badly, right?
And this is my problem.
We look at losses. If I was on
that committee, you know the first question I would
say, resume,
what is your best win? That's the
first thing I would say about every team. And I would start
with Indiana. What is your best win?
And if the best you can give me is, well, Nebraska, I don't know, UCLA?
Like, you've got no good wins.
Well, the reality is this.
You had one chance to prove all the haters wrong and saying, hey, yeah, you played a soft schedule,
but you went to the shoe and you beat Ohio State.
And not only did you lose the game, but the second half was not even competitive.
Yeah.
And now you play one in ten Purdue.
I mean, what does that do?
Like, you should knock down five spots for playing one in ten per two.
new the last week.
That's not fair, Gordy. You can't punish him to
put for a win. I can punish you for playing a bunch
adults. You're in the Big Ten. You didn't even play any good
Big Ten teams other than Ohio State.
A lot of that, though, unfortunately, was
not their fault. That's how the
schedule makers put it out there. But that's, this is the
problem with the 16 team conferences. It's like
not every SEC or Big Ten schedules created equal now.
And they wouldn't expand further? Like, you're
going to have even more inequities.
So are we going to just do this? We've got
one minute before we get to Brian Bill. Like, are we just
this college football fan is going to bitch about any system?
I mean, is there anything we can do just to make sure that it's, oh, this is the right thing to do?
I think we're going to, I think we're teetering on, we're going to at least 14 or 16 in the next two to three years.
And it would not shock me if we get to 20, you know, 24 teams, whatever it is.
And you're going to play until February?
I mean, are these kids going to ever go to school?
Yeah, got money on the line here.
Oh, by the way, if you want to extend this schedule, Gordy, how about these kids that are getting ready for the draft?
They're not going to want to play these games.
I mean, you can't risk playing for a championship.
You can't risk play for a national championship and break your leg and cost yourself several rounds of a draft.
Keeps sharing that money, that revenue money.
All right.
1057.

Jaguars. And talk about that is one of the most respected coaches and broadcasters you'll find out there.
we speak of Brian Billick, Super Bowl 35 champion head coach with us here on the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Coach, it's Matt and Chris here.
Thanks for joining us.
And I would like you to be an amateur therapist for the Houston sports fans because they're winging out right now.
This Texan football team is needless to say, underperforming the last handful of weeks.
As you watch them occasionally and how much you are, what are you seeing right now that maybe you didn't see earlier in the season?
Well, they just got to hang tight because the AFC in particular is clustered pretty tight.
There's a lot of capable teams.
Certainly Kansas City is the lead at 10 and 1, but they've shown some vulnerabilities as well.
So there's Kansas City, Buffalo, Pittsburgh.
I throw Houston into that mix, Baltimore, and even the charges.
They're all right there.
I could give you three reasons why everyone, each one of them is going to the Super Bowl.
I give you three reasons why they're not.
Clearly, Houston, and this is a game of momentum.
And right now they just don't have the momentum.
That's the biggest thing that would have to concern you.
They've shown signs of it.
C.J. Stroud has been spectacular at times.
The last little bit, the interceptions, the inconsistency is a concern,
but that doesn't mean that you can't get it back
because they certainly show them the signs of it, particularly early in the season.
And there's plenty of time to get that rhythm,
to be that team that finishes strong, particularly knowing that you have.
have the capability in what is a wide open conference to go to the Super Bowl, you can still
make a run at this thing.
So they have a time to get that momentum back, but they got to kick it in pretty quick here.
Brian Billick is with us.
He is here courtesy of ex-tech pads, and we'll be talking more with him about that coming
up in a couple of minutes.
Coach, the offensive line has been a season-long issue between formation issues, holdings,
pass protection.
And my philosophy has been, and you obviously,
know this significantly better than anybody that's in our audience.
I feel like part of the regression for CJ this year is his inability to step into throws.
I think he's a little more hesitant.
I don't think he trusts his line.
Every quarterback, as you know, coach, has to feel pressure.
But I feel like this has really become something that has affected the timing and the fluidity of
CJ's throws.
Or last year, even when there was a little bit of pressure,
he was able to dance a little bit, get around it, and still make some great throws.
And I just feel like some of those plays that were those,
mind-blowing wow plays aren't a part of this year's offense.
And there's no question that when you're struggling with the offensive line,
for whatever reason, whether it's injury, you have different guys in and out of the lineup,
as a quarterback, even though you support those guys and you want to feel good about it,
when that's in the back of your mind on every play you drop back to pass,
that's not good because it gnaws away at your focus that you've got to have down the field.
And so that is a reason, a big part of the reason.
why he, Stee J. Strau may not be quite as comfortable in the pocket.
Or you realize, you know, you talk about that pervertible clock that goes off in your head
as to how long I can be in here before.
That speeds up and it speeds up probably more arbitrarily than it should.
And he starts to get more jittery in the pocket, even when he is solid in the pocket.
And that affects everything about the timing.
So he's got to kind of get that back or they've got to get him outside the pocket a little bit more by design
just to let him settle down.
so that he can make, like you say, those eye-popping plays we were used to seeing.
Talking with Coach Brian Billick and coach the O.C. Bobby Sloick, he's getting a ton of criticism this year when it comes to the Texans offense.
They've been great scoring in the first half, but the second half of games, the offense just has bogged down.
Six times this year they have failed to score a second half touchdown.
As a former play caller yourself, what's the reason for that?
Is it getting too conservative because you've got a lead?
Is it the other defense making halftime adjustments?
What have you seen?
What would cause the offense to bog down the second half like it has this year?
Well, it's the flow of the game as much as anything.
And if you are struggling in an area, you go over the course of the entire game.
It's going to show up.
You can maybe hide it or the flow of the game allowed you to hide it in the first couple series or even in a first half.
If you've got a couple nice series, you've got a nice rhythm, maybe your defense is playing well.
And, you know, just a natural flow of the game.
but when you've got to go to an entire 60 minutes,
then those flaws are going to show up at some point.
It's just like the quarterback that, you know,
on a 25-throw game, he can be spectacular,
but what does he do on a 45-throw game
when he has to really put the game on his shoulders?
And that may be the case,
but by the time you get into the second half,
now some of the inequities you have
or some of the issues have
are definitely going to show up at some point.
So, yeah, it is a challenge.
I don't know that it's a difference in play call,
or the approach that you're taking or your lack of adjustments.
I don't know that that's the case as much as it is.
The true personality, your team is going to come out via the whole course of the game,
particularly in the second half.
D'Biko's been pretty a loyal guy, right?
He brought Sloak with him over from San Fran, and he believes in him.
And everything last year was awesome.
We were praying that Sloak wouldn't get a head coaching job, and we could keep him here,
and they were able to keep him.
But at what point does it get bad enough you would consider making an in-season change?
And I bring that up because some people really believe in Gerard Johnson, who's the quarterback's coach.
They think he's an up-and-comer as a play caller.
Is that something you ever had to do in your career, fire and assistant in season?
Yeah, yeah.
And that's a tough.
It's a tough one.
And basically it comes down to what is your team think?
Because the players know.
And the players have a sense of whether they believe in what they're doing.
They're just fighting through the tough ones.
You know, do they take on responsibility?
You know, and at the end of the day, it's that guys.
It's how we're playing.
Or are there question marks?
And you as a head coach can recognize that.
It's really about how the – it's kind of like you're starting quarterback.
Did the play other players really believe in it?
Or do you need to make a change there?
Not that you need to make a change for C.J. Stroud.
Talking about other situations, but there are questioning, well, do I make the change
at the quarterback?
It's the same way.
How is the team responding to it?
What do they really see?
And typically making that kind of change doesn't make a difference because of it.
It really isn't that.
It's not necessarily the play calling.
It's the players and how they're executing.
But if you feel like a change would energize the players and give them something to hang their hat on,
well, then that's something you have to consider as a head coach.
Before we get to talking about X-Tac pads and a second coach, a final question.
We're very curious about your perspective about how often you change your mind about who's going to represent each of the conferences.
I'm all in Detroit over and over again, and then I watch Philadelphia dominate.
Sequan Barkley was great against the Rams this past weekend.
I think Detroit, Philadelphia, are headed for a collision course.
As you mentioned, you could see the Texans being in that mix with Buffalo and Baltimore,
the way they played against the Chargers on Monday night, of course, Kansas City.
If I was to hold your feet to the fire right now, who will be playing in New Orleans
on the final Sunday of the season at this point?
Well, in the NFC, you're right.
It's those top two teams
and they're playing consistent.
They're playing physical. They have confidence.
They have good teams like Minnesota that are close in record.
But right now, the cream of the crop is Philadelphia and Detroit.
In the AFC, like I said, to me, it's a wide open deal.
They're all touching.
Like I said, I can make a case for each of them to go and then also talk about the inadequacies.
Kansas City, because of the pedigree, even though they're winning on very tight margins now,
they have that sense of destiny they have that sense of confidence that they're never out of it so clearly if you if you had to pick right now i don't know how you don't pick the pedigree of kansas city but by the same token baltimore at times has shown to be an absolute dominant team i think buffalo's a team that's a little under the radar sitting there at nine and two it's hard to imagine that but the way they're playing the way josh allen's playing right now you know they're a spectacular team so those three teams right now even though you'd have to you
to lean towards Kansas City because of the pedigree.
I think Kansas City, Buffalo, and Baltimore clearly are the ones that have shown on a most consistent basis to be the best team.
Fitzburg, the defense is outstanding.
But the offense is a little questionable for me to think that they're going to crack and go all the way through the playoffs against,
and having played through a Josh Allen, a Patrick Mahomes, and or Lamar Jackson to get to the Super Bowl.
All right, before I let you run, Coach, we've got a lot of dads that are coaching youth football.
involved in football and safety.
We're always trying to make the sport as successful and popular and as safe as it can be.
And I know you've got a product you want to tell the folks about.
Yeah, I expect pads.
It's the number one pad and all professional football, major college and the high school level.
Next year we're going to be out into the youth level, which I'm excited about.
But it's the best pad in football, mainly because it's basically fitted.
It's not just one-size-fits-all.
It's a pad that takes into account.
Your height, your weight, your playing position, your hitting.
injury history, the level you're playing at.

XTechpads.com's a website.
Last question, coach, Dion Sanders,
best for him if you were giving him advice,
stay in the college ranks,
or take a flyer on maybe becoming an NFL head coach
in the not too distant future.
Well, Deion, he's doing a spectacular job.
I knew he'd be a great coach.
He's great for the college game,
and I hope he stays there because of that
because he's great for the players.
He's great for the energy of the game.
But if I'm making a B-line to the NFL
because the college game right now scares me.
The NIL, the portal.
You can see that's why so many coaches are getting out.
Although he loves working with the players,
and I respect that for him long term.
I'd head for the hills.
Coach Billick, it's always a pleasure to have you on this radio station.
Thank you very much for the time,
and best luck with X-Tech pads.

Now.
On Sports Talk 790.
Thanks again to Brian Billick for joining us for a few minutes.
We've got to shut you Obama.
I.S.F. coming up at the bottom of the hour.
Matt Thomas with you from Philadelphia.
where I'm going to tell the NBA to shut their bum ass up.
That's in 10 minutes.
I don't like I can get suspended for it because it's a very fair,
it's a very fair criticism.
By the way, Gordy, Baylor Doug on Twitter wants you to do your criticisms of whatever
you're going to tell people to shut up in your Cajun voice.
Can you do that?
I don't really have a Cajun voice.
Now, you are, you did not marry into a Cajun family.
You married into a Houston family with obviously strong Kentucky ties.
Now, what would be the most king?
and dish you will have tomorrow at Thanksgiving or will you even have anything?
I made oyster dressing last year and it didn't come out as good as I thought it could have.
So I'm skipping it this year.
But oyster dressing is a big Louisiana thing.
Yeah.
So then did the members of your family go, oh, Chris, nice try?
Or do they just eat it and go, didn't say a word,
knowing that your wife was going to tell you later on it sucked?
Oh, they're all very nice.
They're complimentary.
Okay.
I will say the other one is fried turkey in Louisiana.
A lot of people do the deep turkey fry.
Yeah, I need a ruling, by the way, on this.
And I don't...
Maupyes has a fried turkey sandwich.
No, no, it's Barbies.
It does that.
I'm sorry, not Rapis.
It's Barbies.
It has the fried turkey sandwich.
I'm out of that.
I don't know if I trust Barbies with my turkey.
No.
They do one thing well, that's roast beef.
Yeah, I think Barbies has an image problem.
Like, you know, Rock and the Rock.
It's the same thing.
They can't...
Just to sell your...
Sell your 10 best items and call it a day.
We're always trying to reinvent the wheel.
They're seasoned curleys too, are undefeated.
That's true.
That's true.
All right, I'm hungry now.
713, 212, 570.
The worst thing about this shift is we can't eat.
And if we want to be eating on air, they'll come across this room.
We can't do that.
We've got to start pitching your show.
Brunch with Matt.
That's exactly right.
I'll have brunch with Matt.
That's right.
And just like feed me, like, have people, have women come in and feed us grapes during
timeout and during commercial breaks.
You're in the eastern time zone, right?
Yeah.
I'm going to take a picture.
I'm in a hotel.
I'm on the 51st floor of this hotel.
I mean, I'm literally looking outside my window
into the entire city of Philadelphia as we speak.
No snow, thankfully.
I can see the casino from where I am,
and I have not had time to go over there
because, look, I got this show to do.
I've got a rocket scheme, but...
Well, if you were a trooper like me,
when we were on the road covering the Astros,
I'd get up at the crack butt of dawn and get out and explore the city.
Oh, is that right?
Okay.
I've never been to the Liberty Bell.
Or is a Liberty Bell here?
It's somewhere.
We found it.
Okay.
Yeah, I was going to say, party, did you have withdrawals this year?
Because normally that's your best vacation times are covering the after during the playoffs.
Vacation, but it would have been, uh, who would they?
Yeah, we were booked to go to Minnesota at Ross and I, so, um, or Cleveland.
No, it was Cleveland, yeah.
We were going to go to Cleveland.
And I've been there before.
It's okay.
It's okay. It's not spectacular. It's fine.
Everything's kind of walkable, though. You can walk around to the progressive field or whatever it is.
Yep, that's right. That's right.
713-212-5-7-9. If you want to jump in in a conversation, 713-1-2-5-7-90.
So I can ask you, because you don't have a bias viewpoint of this, with your buddies,
and you are Mr. Sports 24-7, which I appreciate, is there any part of your buddies, Houston buddies,
that are buying into this Rockets
nice run or is it still very much a wait and see at this point?
No, I think there's a lot of folks getting on board.
That win last night was, I mean, again,
I get at the Coogs were playing at the same time,
so it kind of sucks if you didn't have the dual TV thing.
But to pull that one out, because Minnesota at one point,
I mean, they had all the momentum, what,
about four minutes to go?
Yeah.
It felt like, yeah, this ain't going to happen.
For that, what, Amman hits the big three to get it back tied.
And I was like, oh, okay, got a chance here.
Now, Craig has been trying to sell a little bit of Tar Heason as a defensive player of the year.
I don't know if you're going to be able to do that as a bench player.
But help me out.
Is a man Thompson got a shot at Sixth Man early on?
Again, still very early in the season?
I think so.
And Tarry gets my vote of approval as an LSU Tiger.
He deserves.
Oh, I'm sure he does.
He deserves it.
But you had to realize, the Rockets have played 19 games and have won 13 of them.
I don't remember the last time the Rockets had 13 wins before December.
It had to been during the heyday of the James Harden Chris Paul Rockets, right?
And they're doing it against good teams.
You know, it's not like you're just beating up the crap teams on your schedule,
and losing to the good teams.
And really, I mean, the Portland game the other night, guess what?
They ended up losing by six.
But really, I mean, the OKC game is the only game that was, you were not in.
Right.
You were down 31 to Golden State, and he came back and eventually took the lead and lost in overtime.
But yeah, it's, they have three bad losses, although Charlotte is, well, Charlotte's bad, so I shouldn't say that.
That was a bad loss.
Portland was a bad loss.
San Antonio's playing above 500, so that didn't turn out to be as bad of a loss as I thought it was going to be.
You cannot lose this one tonight.
Philly sucks.
No Joel Embed, no Kyle Lowry.
and no Paul George.
Yeah.
Cannot lose this one.
The problem is,
did you see the minutes play last time with all the starters?
I mean, it was like 36, 37 minutes for all of them.
Yeah, I need you to suck it up.
It was funny, too, at the end of the game, Dylan Brooks,
you know, he had some big free throws there late.
Right.
He was doing the postgame interview with Vanessa.
Literally every player came up and hit him and said something to him
and kept disrupting the post-game interview.
Was it family-friendly conversation?
I think so.
There may have been a curse word in there, too.
Yeah, it's all right.
It's cable.
What are you going to do?
But they win tonight.
I mean, Sunday night, like, look, I know we're still in football season, but
Houston fans, let's wake up.
OKC coming to town Sunday night?
It's a big one.
Yeah, OKC is one of the top two teams in Western Conference.
I don't know if the NBA likes that idea, but I can tell you from a talent standpoint,
it's going to be good.
So hopefully that is the case.
We're going to get Gordy's prediction also in the next half hour,
35, 40 minutes about what's going to happen between
Texas A&M in Texas because I've got an emotional family right now back in Houston
waiting for that game to be played on Saturday night.
So we'll get to his thoughts on that.
We'll get your thoughts on that.
And we will also get from you now coming up if there's somebody in your life that is
driving you crazy or something has happened and you want to tell them to shut their bum asses up,
you need to do this right now at 713-212-5-70.
This is the pre- Thanksgiving Day edition of Shut Your Bumass up.
Is somebody in your life driving you crazy?
Does somebody do something to you?
Or if somebody at the office is putting a bunch of work on your plate
before you want to get out today at 2 o'clock, start enjoying the Thanksgiving holiday,
tell them, ain't anybody got time for that?
713-212-5-7-90.
7-13-212-5-7-0.
It's 1127.
Shut your bum ass up is coming up after I tell you about Two Creeks Crossing Resort.
I know you want to get away.
I know it's tough to get away for an island or a trip to a beach or to overseas,
but if you want to get away for a couple days to enjoy the nature,
because you like to be outdoors,
but you also don't want to be out there when it's 115 degrees.
Two Creeks Crossing Resort is a perfect place to go right now near Lake Livingston.
Get yourself a waterfront cabin.
Get yourself one of those awesome, fully furnished tree houses,
and you're going to love the experience.
So ridiculously comfortable with all the modern amenities,
high-speed Wi-Fi,
kitchens there's a hot tub stoves i mean you can go up there and just hang out for a couple days
and get away turn your cell phone off and just relax and enjoy the modern amenities and nature

website and see all the different things i can offer from a catch and release pond to a pool to a

You're like, man, thanks for telling me about this.
I didn't think of a place like this could be so close to Houston, and it is.
It's called Two Creeks Crossing Resort.
Online where you can say 40% at Two Creeks Crossing Resort.com.
Ain't nobody getting time?
Hey nobody getting time for that.
Hey, nobody getting time for that.
We need this badly.
We have relatives coming into town we don't like.
Now, you wouldn't want to tell them to shut their bumasses up.
but just saying
this is the place
you come once a week for
a half an hour to just tell
somebody ain't nobody got time for that or shut their
bumasses up 713
212 5790 719 713
212 5790
I'll start
Gordy
when did Minneapolis to fill it off
you'd be a convenient back-to-back for NBA teams
now
granted we're flying in the middle of the night
and there's not a lot of air traffic
but damn, we didn't get to the room until 3.15 this morning.
Ain't anybody got time for a two and a half hour flight
from Minneapolis to Philadelphia and a back-to-back
where you lose an hour because of the time difference.
Ain't nobody got time for that?
Yeah, probably should have gone the other way.
Go from Philly to Minneapolis.
Or maybe a day off in between.
I don't care, but you can't play Minnesota-Filadelphia back-to-back.
What was Portland, Boston unavailable for us?
Yeah, Golden State to Boston.
Couldn't make that trip.
Why wasn't Sacramento to Miami available on a back-to-back?
Sorry, I don't mean to complain.
But that's what I'm here for.
Half hour a week, we get to do this.
713-212-5-790.
7-13-212-5-790.
Gordy, what's the matter with you?
Yeah, I'm going to go after college football playoff chair Ward Manual,
who was asked after the college football player rankings last night.
He was asked about Boise State coming at number 11.
in the latest rankings.
Now, that is up one spot from where Boise was a week ago, number 12.
Okay.
For those who don't know, Boise struggled this past weekend, barely beating 2 and 9 Wyoming 17 to 13.
Ward Manual said in response, he said the committee really values winning and said that some people on the committee played at Wyoming when they were coaches, and they say it's a really tough environment to play in.
What?
You know who else won at Wyoming this year, Matt?
Utah State, Idaho,
Ward Manuel, shut your bum ass up.
That's what I'm talking about.
Rewarding Boise for struggling at Wyoming
because, well, a few of our coaches think
it's a tough place to play.
I'm sure all 29,000 fans in Laramie, Wyoming
really make a difference in that high school stadium.
Shut your bum ass up, man.
No wonder you're not getting credential
with the A&M Texas game. You're so mean to that word dude.
They just do what a...
Again, the end of the day.
the committee just does whatever the hell they want.
You went right for the jugular there.
Got another one if you want it.
Oh, we got plenty of time. It's just you and me talking.
Nobody else is out there.
It's a holiday week.
Yeah, that's what it is.
Oh, you should have seen the roads last night.
A lot of people jitting out of town.
Is that right? Okay.
Coach Pride.
And I like Dion.
But if you miss the yesterday, Matt,
all the awards semi-finalists list,
came out for all the ESPN awards, the Thorpe, the, you know, all that kind of stuff.
Dionne Sanders was not happy that Travis Hunter was snubbed as a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award.
Coach Prime saying, quote, how's Travis Hunter snubbed by the Thorpe?
You could have my award.
You know what?
You can have it back.
No, in fact, I'm going to give it to him.
He's going to get mine.
Coach Prime, a little overreaction there.
Travis Hunter has rated the sixth best corner back in the country.
He's very good.
He's very good.
Pro Football Focus has him as the sixth best corner and the fourth best wide receiver.
He is awesome as a dual threat.
But it's okay to say he's not one of the three best corners in the country.
So Coach Brom, not only bitching that he's not a finalist, but to say you're going to give him your Thorpe Award,
shut your bum ass up.
Shut your bum ass up, man.
Love that.
Gordy bringing the passion.
Connor, can you beat what Gordy's giving you with a one-time?
two punch right there? Not the passion, no, but I'll give you something. Everybody can relate to this,
I guess, around the holidays. You see some, maybe some family or some family friends that you haven't
seen in a while. And that happened last night. I had an early Thanksgiving dinner with some people.
It was good to see them. You know, we were close when we were younger, but ain't nobody got time
to pretend that we're best friends saying that we should plan something together and hang out more.
I mean, we say that every year, nothing ever happens. So let's just say it was good to see you
and we'll catch up next year.
And nobody got time to be fake.
Hey, nobody got time for that.
Were they looking to do a friend's giving with you?
Is that what they were looking for?
No, it was like, uh, it was just a family, friend's catch up thing.
Like, we hung out when we were younger.
Our families hung out when we were younger, but we don't really hang out anymore.
But you don't even really like them, do you?
I mean, it's great to see them, but everybody's got their own stuff going on now.
We've got our own lives.
You got your girl now.
You're about to get engaged before you know it.
No, no, no, no, no, no.
Okay.
Slow down.
Maybe let's put in the carpet before the phone.
horse a little bit on that one. Yeah. Maybe in
maybe in five years. We'll see.
Okay, that's five years ago. You're going to date a girl.
Let me tell you some. Girls are not waiting five years to marry your
ass. That's not happening. Oh, I'm only
23. I'm turning 24 this weekend.
Oh, you really? We didn't get you a gift.
Yikes. When's your
birthday? Sunday.
What day of the week? What number is that?
The first.
Oh, damn, we didn't get you anything. I'm sorry.
Matt, get him your rocket's thunder tickets.
No, Gordie. Send me to Vegas
with Matt. No, but they can be
present.
Seriously, I can't, if we go to Vegas, I can't go by myself.
I mean, maybe.
As much as I like Jabari Smith and.
Maybe you didn't hear about where the company.
Where the company is right now, Matt, maybe you didn't hear about those headlines.
Oh, yeah, I forgot.
Yeah, but we can, we don't have trade.
We can't get you guys in a official hotel of Iheart.
The Excalibur is like $38 a month.
You want to stay there?
Dude, did you really stay there for the college football playoff?
off the game or that weekend.
Opening weekend, yep.
Was that horrible?
It was okay.
It was not okay.
It was terrible.
I got terrible food poisoning at the Excalibur that one time.
I'll tell you what, it's on par with some of those dumps on Fremont.
That's true.
That's why you've got to go to circuit.
That's it'll take care of you.
All right, 713-212-5-7-19.
There's nobody in Houston, Texas.
I mean, I know we're in listening mode this is low this way,
but there's nobody complaining about anything?
It's just us three.
Don't ask cranky men complaining about stuff?
There's got to be something that's got to be bothering you out there.
713-212-5-790.
7-1-3-212-5-7-90.
I'm trying to think.
What else is in the world of sports that's cranking me-making me-crank.
I had another one.
We went to Austin this past weekend for the Kentucky, Texas game.
And there was a crap ton of Kentucky fans there,
because this is the fun part of having two new.
teams in the SEC. A lot of SEC fans
are getting to go to venues they've never been.
So a lot of Kentucky fans have never been to
DKR. But the alumni
tickets, so you buy tickets through the
alumni group, in other stadiums,
how they normally do it is they put you all in like a
section together. So when you're looking around the stadium
you see all burn orange and there's blue in one section,
well, how Texas did it was
they split it all up
among the upper deck. So there
was blue like sprinkled about,
but it wasn't a per se like Kentucky section.
So we had
dumbass Longhorn fans behind us
and in front of us talking trash the old time.
Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Why are they dumbass Texas
fans? They just beat you guys to a pulp for
three and a half hours. I'm just saying, and I'm
not a huge Kentucky homer. I'm just saying
like, spreading them out.
What are we doing? Like, put the fans into
one section. That's what you should do. You shouldn't sprinkle
it. We paid premium
prices to be in the Kentucky
section. By the way,
Chris Gordy, I just got a text on somebody you know.
she says
I had
this is a girl
it rhymes with
boring
lordy
I booked with points
had never been
the Excalibur
it was so awful
tell Chris
to shut his bum ass up
shit your bum ass up
man
look I've stayed in
some comfort sweets
before
that that was not
bottom 10 hotel
ever
the worst hotel
I've ever
stayed at
as a professional
human being
was when
Ross and I
went to
West Palm Beach
a couple years
ago
and we stayed
in a hotel
that had blood
in the in the
tub
Did it have, was the roof also red?
No, it was, it was a motel rick's studio, whatever that meant.
I told our bosses, I said, man, look, I, I understand we've got to be fiscally conservative, but I mean, my God.
Yeah, you're better sleeping in the rental car at that point.
Get that right.
Let's go to talk to some people.
Gil on 790, 1141.
Gil, what's the matter with you?
Man, you know what squares are?
on football? Yes.
I've been on it all year, $100 every time.
I ain't won nothing.
And now I've got some more twos and five,
and I told Homeboy, somebody cheating.
And he said, no, they're not.
And I haven't won nothing all year.
So I think somebody cheating.
He can shut his bum ass up because there's something going on.
Shit your bum-ass up, man.
Thank you very much.
You know, I'm going to tell you this, too.
We have a great receptionist at our company.
and we love her very much.
Her name is Sophia.
And she's always asking us to play the squares, too, for, like, the Super Bowl.
And yeah, you know what?
Sophia, I'm tired of getting fives and threes.
Sophia in the front desk.
Shut your bum ass up, mate.
Shut your bum ass up, man.
Give me a 7-0 one time, please.
Yeah, I always feel like she always wins, too.
Yeah.
She won two quarters.
And then that Michael Garfield, America's guest,
who hasn't paid for anything in his life always wins, too.
I think Michael Barry won once.
He doesn't need...
Oh, my God.
If anybody needs to just donate his entire thing,
is Michael Barry.
Ramon, do you even play squares?
Ding.
Ramon, do you win as much as I do in life?
Ding.
All right, back at it in a moment.
I know we get an email from somebody.
7-1-3-212-5-7-U-D.
More to shut your bum ass up.
Anybody got time for that in a moment.
11-43 out, Sports Talk, 7-80.
More.
Matt Thomas.
Now on Sports Talk 790.
We have the news at noon coming up.
We've got E.May Adoka coming up in 45 minutes.
Dr. Roto's with us in the final hour of the show.
We have the Rotten 5.
All right, Gordy, we have a need of ruling.
All we have is 790 T-shirts for Believe it or not.
Should we even play today?
And a shout-out.
Ooh, the shout-outs are always big.
All right, we'll play.
I've got to start writing the questions for it.
But that's coming up in a few minutes.
We got some people that want to talk.
If you are mad about something, we're here for you on Sports Talk, 790.
713-212-5-790.
7-1-3-212-5-7-90.
Felipe on 7-90.
Felipe, what's the matter with you?
Felipe?
Nothing is wrong with Felipe.
He's doing just great.
Thanks for calling.
7-1-3-212-5-7-90.
Mike, what's the matter with you?
All right, let me get to it.
To that brainless sports commentator who say that college
should revise or football schedules on the fly to strengthen them,
and it was envious of my Irish.
Enjoy Brian Kelly in.
Shut your bum ass up.
Oh, we will.
You know what Brian Kelly didn't do, Mike?
Woo!
Lose to Northern Illinois at home.
I'm right here, Gordy.
You're a bum ass to you.
Hey, join a conference, Notre Dame.
Join a conference.
Maybe you get a couple of a seat.
You're envious because we don't have to.
We don't have to.
Enjoy Brian Kelly.
Enjoy your 4.0 GPA.
Great.
That's all Notre Dame can celebrate.
We don't win Jack.
We don't win Jack.
You're going to advise schedules midseason.
Come on.
That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
Maybe I'll go to FCS.
Seriously.
Seriously.
You cannot do that.
God, I love this.
Come on.
Take your time.
This is incredible.
Come on.
Hey, Marcus,
Mr. Freeman's great.
I'm sure he's going to be awesome winning 8, 9, 10 games a year and falling flat on his face
and winning nothing.
Well, Brian is your family.
How did he pronounce that?
He's so cage him when he said it.
He's in a real conference.
Hey, he loved how he gets along with the players.
Love that.
Great deal.
I mean, he finally went to a big one program.
I mean, Mike, he could have said it.
Did he think he lost a team?
No, he didn't lose it.
Do you think he's lost a team?
He just beat Vanderbilt, you dumbass.
Who did y'all plays?
Van derbelle.
What Armed Force Academy did y'all play this week?
The Marines?
Does Gordie?
Oh, you were saying you'd love it of Army Beat us.
Oh, yeah, they did a great job out there.
Oh, my gosh.
Come on.
You are incredible.
He is, Kelly, you're going to love him.
You're going to love him.
We're going to love him.
He's like the third best winning percentage in the SEC since he's gotten there.
Like, what are you talking about?
He's supposed to go undefeated?
He's supposed to go undefeated?
This season has been fabulous.
It has.
How many years have you been there?
How many years has you been there?
This is year three.
And he won the SEC West.
Right, year three, year three, which is usually the prime season for new head coach.
Well, if he would have stayed at Notre Dame, he would have, I know Notre Dame gets an invite
to playoff every year automatically.
You're proud of Vanderbilt.
You're proud of Vanderbilt.
That was a top 25 team.
How many top 25 wins does Notre Dame have this year?
We play, well, look at a schedule.
I guess we should have revised it mid-season.
Oh.
So is USC going to be a big win or not a big win?
I mean, we'll see.
Oh, okay.
We'll play that on the fly, too.
Oh, my gosh, Gordon.
Come on.
Mike, reality check, if y'all played the Aggies right now,
you get your ass beat Notre Dame.
Oh, dear.
You got lucky.
You got lucky beat them week on.
A&M got better.
You're going along.
Marceli would run all over the Irish ass.
I know, because we haven't gotten better since that game either.
Oh, yeah, because you played Virginia and Florida.
State, huge wins. My God.
I wish you'd play Vanderbilt.
That would have been the test. Vanderbilt would
would have been the test. Vodka State can't beat anybody, Mike.
I know we should have changed our schedule.
I mean, hey.
Because they were natural champs.
Well, sure, don't.
Oh, when we schedule?
Let's hope you guys don't play Northern Illinois again next year and be another
asshole.
You keep avoiding the subject. Keep boring the subject.
The comment you made about reviving the schedule was absolutely absurd.
Absolutely.
I didn't say mid-season, Mike.
I said,
you're tougher opponents.
And they were national champions.
That was a bad step.
Well, maybe if you'll join a guy.
Maybe if y'all joined a damn conference.
But now you're going to use that against us, though, today.
Now you're going to use that against us today.
Oh, you played for us, ain't horrible.
Okay.
Okay.
What does last time Notre Dame won anything of relevance, please?
Oh, boy.
Here you got.
LSU, really?
Yeah, five years ago won the national championship.
A guy named Joe Burrow.
He might have heard of him.
Set records, the greatest college team in history.
Oh my gosh
You got me kidding me
You all haven't been relevant since Brian Kelly left
He actually brought you all the relevance
Well somehow
Somehow we keep getting in the
Cosplayoff
Because you have a special deal
You play in no conference
There's a rule written that you guys
automatically get in because you don't play in a conference
You get special treatment
Right
We're right
I'm sorry we're able to do that
Yeah and you don't win Jack so
Talk to Mr. Swarbrick
negotiate the deal.
You know what you're going to talk about the Cowboys?
You're nationally televised, but you don't win Jack.
Yet for some reason you get special treatment.
Okay, great.
Hey, well, that's the way it is.
At least the Cowboys won a championship more recently than Notre Dame.
So you're just, you're calling the Notre Dame fighting Irish to Dallas Cowboys of College football?
Yeah, living in the past constantly.
Tell me more about Newt, Rockney, and Rudy, Mike.
That was Radio Gold right there.
That was a whole reason when we brought you in today.
It was for calls like that right there.
God, that was good.
I had zero complaints about that.
1988, last time they won a championship.
All right, let's see how Felipe.
Connor wouldn't even born.
Felipe, did you like that?
I enjoy that.
We need that.
That brings him back to Stan and Gordon when they go at it, man.
Miss that guy.
Yeah.
What's the matter with you?
Well, let me go off real quick.
Follow on the squares.
Nobody got time for the squares.
Those things should just be phased out.
Nobody likes them. I hate them.
I got good numbers and I did not win.
Two, Spirit Airlines.
Titch your bum-ass up. That's enough said.
Three, man, it's to my boss, man.
Everybody wants to go home early.
It's the day before Thanksgiving.
We're over here working a full shit for 12 hours.
Titch your bum-ass up.
What's his name, Felipe?
Shit your bum-ass up, man.
His name is Silverio.
Siverio.
Listen to me.
I'm your friend Matt Thomas.
shit your bum ass up, mate.
Shut your bum ass up, man.
Sperio.
Appreciate you, guys.
See you later.
Dennis and Stafford, Dennis, what's the matter with you?
Hey, I was just calling.
I know Matt is a U of H guy.
I'm a U of H guy, and the thing that I was calling about is
the football team at U of H in the quarterback, right?
My thing is I'm not, I'm a lot.
a basketball guy, but I watch you a big football and football.
And my thing is, if they just changed out the quarterback,
they would probably win, would have won a whole lot of games.
No, they weren't changed a quarterback out once. It was plenty.
No, not that guy. Not that guy.
I mean, there's got to be some other guys. I saw another guy,
and there's some other guys listed on there.
And if those guys are that bad, they shouldn't be on the team.
I mean, I'm watching this guy. He's okay, but he's not a running.
quarterback.
What are you talking about?
The quarterback is a running quarterback.
Yeah, you're mixing
the people up here.
No, no.
I'm talking about
Chris.
You know, they classify him
as a running quarterback.
And I'm saying, well, no, he's really not
he doesn't have the quickness
for a run.
He can't throw.
He doesn't have a for sure.
No disrespect to him, but he can't throw.
You're correct.
He doesn't have the vision for throwing.
And I'm saying there's got to be
somebody else on that team
that they can try.
They're going to go get somebody.
Trust me on this.
Trust me when I tell you,
John Chris,
will not be a starting quarterback next year.
But,
but Matt,
I'm saying,
is there somebody,
there's some other guys
listed on there as quarterbacks?
Why don't they try?
What does it hurt?
Because they're going to go
pay for some quarterback.
They're going to go to the transfer portal
and go get somebody.
Well,
that's a good thing,
but man,
I looked at that deal.
I'm saying,
well,
you know,
it's hard to even watch the game
because I'm saying,
well,
look, if you continue to do the same thing and over and over again, that's incentive.
We're not, we're not good.
And I'm saying, we're, we need, we need a talent infusion, Dennis.
Thanks for the phone call.
We need a talent infusion.
So please cut the check to the U-H collectus.
We can go buy ourselves as a quarterback.
What's a quarterback running these days, Gordy, about 10.5 million, you said?
12 million?
Well, it depends how good, how good you want.
Can I get one for $6.5 million?
Oh, yeah, you can get a real good one for that.
A couple more real quick before.
the top of the hour. Steve, what's the matter with you?
Nothing's the matter with me. It's Chris Gordy. There's
a matter with. Hey, Chris.
Yes, sir. Unless you're going to tell us exactly what those
quote, dumbass Texas fans were saying,
shut your bum ass up.
I'm saying that you kick it off and spreading the fans
out. And by the way, Steve, you're worried. Where's your concern for Quinn
yours and his suck ass this week at Aggie in college station?
Because he, I saw him to throw a terrible pick six against Kentucky.
and he's got a bum ankle?
Man, I'd turn the page to Arch quicker than you could say,
gig him.
I ain't got no argument with that,
but we just avoided the whole issue.
We were talking about the fans, not the quarterbacks.
Oh, I just said the fans were talking so much.
The fans were talking trash,
and I'm like, you're beating bum-ass Kentucky who's got four wins.
Like, come on, what are we doing here?
Ah, they played Georgia within a point.
It was better than a long word.
Yeah, and you'll beat Vandy by three.
I mean, come on.
You were like 25-point.
Point favorites against Arkansas, one by 10.
Need a fourth quarter to hang on.
Chris, have you not gotten laid lately or what?
Whoa!
His wife's listening.
They, of course, have sex.
Well, you better take care of this boy because he's on a real hate cycle right now.
I'm just saying, I'm just telling you like I see it.
And Texas fans, I don't know who's more cocky and arrogant.
Aggie fans or Texas fans this year, but somebody's about to get humbled.
Somebody's about to get humbled this weekend.
Oh, you're not.
You're be pissed there.
I love, this is the Gordy of a lot.
This is the Gordia I've been waiting for.
Where has this been for the last two hours?
Notre Dame trash.
Look, Texas, at least you're number three in the country.
Notre Dame fans coming here.
Get out of here.
Lost the Northern Illinois.
They lost the Northern Illinois.
They lost a Marshall in his first year.
Like, get out.
Marcus Freeman?
All right.
We are out of time.
Man, that's too bad.
Oh, that's good stuff.
That was the best part of the day right there.
The news at noon is up after.
I tell you about uptown appliance repair.
I want you to not worry about that sub-zero refrigerator that's not working.

Launch timers.
This is the Matt Thomas show.
It is my honor to have Chris Gordy filling in for Ross because he just had two great arguments with listeners.
Notre Dame fan hate you.
Texas fan hates you.
And I think you took a jab at A&M fan before the top of the hour.
Would that be right, Chris?
I'm like John Snow in Game of Thrones, where he was in the battlefield,
and all the horses are coming after him, and it's just him, and he pulls out his sword.
Bring it all on.
Connor, was that a Dan Matthews' multimedia reference?
Yes.
You know what you've got to do then?
I don't have it ready, so ding.
Oh, all right, that's fine.
Ladies and gentlemen, our time is 1205.
It's time for the news of noon.
Thanks, Matt. We start in the world of baseball, where Blake Snow has signed a five-year, $182 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
And they're able to do this all because Shohei Otani is taking a deferred contract.
So the Dodgers are able to shell out $32.5 million a year for Tyler Glassnow.
For $20 million a year for Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
for Will Smith to make 11 million a year,
for Freddie Freeman to make 27 million a year,
for Mookie Betts to make 30 million a year.
Love to see it.
The Dodgers, they're just America's team, aren't they?
I hate the Dodgers.
And I had a hard time saying,
let's go Dodgers during the World Series.
You know how painful that was for us to do that?
Dodger Stadium overrated, dollar dog.
No. Dodger dogs overrated.
Yes.
Who was there? Broadcaster passed away. Overrated.
Well, okay.
Okay. What is wrong with you?
You said that Vince Scully is overrated?
The Cyber Dodger Baseball.
Hey, Connor, will you leave the room?
Go into the studio and hit him with something. I don't care what it is.
Why don't you give him some audio equipment that doesn't...
Dodger Stadium's not used to us.
For everything in L.A. that's high class.
class, palm trees, expensive, rich-ass people.
That stadium's a dump.
That stadium is amazing.
The only thing that's negative about it are two things.
One, you fear for your life, and two, it's hard to get in and out of.
But other than that, the stadium itself is spectacular.
With all that money, you're spending on players.
I bet you spend some on the stadium upgrades.
But you made fun of Vince Scully.
That's like making fun of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Seriously.
What is wrong?
I live in L.A.
I never grew up with Vince Scully.
America grew up with Vince Scully.
He did the game of the week for.
Forever and ever. What are you talking about?
Matt Thomas
better broadcaster than Vince Cully.
All right, that's nice you to say, but it's not true.
Other news,
the Houston Couges fall to ninth ranked
Alabama last night in the Players
Era Festival in Las Vegas,
85 to 80 in overtime. L.J. Cryer
drops 30.
Didn't get much help from elsewhere.
Manuel Sharp at 14 before he filed out.
Coogs need a second
scorer to emerge. We need some
scoring, period. And we need the referee
to stop blowing their whistles. College basketball,
you suck. All you do is blow the whistle
over and over. That's why those
games take twice as long as NBA games do, and they
play less than we do. I thought
in overtime, they swallowed their whistle. There should have
been a couple of files called when you
of each had the ball. And they just, guys fall in
the ground, they just swallowed the whistle.
God. All right,
I'm just... It's okay, though, Kukh fans.
You were undefeated against everyone, not from the SEC.
That's okay. I knew this
was going to be only a matter of time before you dropped the SEC.
Now, wait a minute. You ripped on Texas.
and A&M. They're your cousins. They're your SEC cousins.
Overrated. If you're a fan of an SEC team, you don't root for the other teams in the SEC
unless you suck. Wait a minute. Every time I watch a game involving an SEC championship
game or a playoff game, I hear the chant SEC, SEC. I'm not making that up.
Yeah, but it's not, it's not real. Nobody else used to a written for Alabama. Okay.
Other news, the Texans, hard-hitting safety, Jalen Petrie out in Dev,
with a tear on his pectoral.
He's seeking a second opinion,
but there is some thought that
he's going to have to undergo surgery
and we'll miss the rest of the year.
Jimmy Ward will slide into that nickel spot
to replace Petri.
Texans also lost backup DB Kadar Holman
for the season with a torn ACL.
So secondary, getting a little thinner back there.
All right.
Are we locking this one in?
Is it a guaranteed win Sunday?
No doubt about it.
No if answer.
Oh, by the way, Trevor Lawrence is practicing
for the Jaguars.
You forgot to mention that.
Yeah, great.
I mean, I don't know if that was better or worse for Jacksonville, because he has sucked.
Hmm.
And no, it's better than Mac Jones.
I mean, Mac Jones is terrible.
Yeah.
The Jags just suck as a team, but is it a lock that the Texans win?
No.
All right.
What else you got?
Former Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is signed with the Minnesota Vikings on a one-year deal for the remainder of the season.
He will back up Sam Darnold.
And you presume next year, top 10 draft pick, J.J. McCorm.
Harvey will take over as the starter.
So right move for Daniel Jones to go and latch on with the Vikings for a playoff run?
He doesn't care.
He's got all that Giants money coming this away.
He could play for the Edmonton Eskimos, the CFL, and he wouldn't care.
Yeah, it costs the Vikings $375,000 to add him, so.
So tell me, so he's sucked as a Giants quarterback, gets paid the rest of his contract for this year.
And he's getting $375,000 to carry a clipboard?
Yeah.
I mean, look, they might.
Sam Darnold, he gets hurt.
He's one injury away from having to lead a playoff team.
So it's a good spot.
Hmm.
Okay.
I congratulate to Daniel Jones.
I hope he's happy.
One more.
Well, this hell in Minneapolis.
It was just there.
One more nugget for you, Matt, from the world of college football.
Do you know SMU came in at number nine in the AP poll this week?
I did.
It's the first time SMU has been ranked in the AP top 10 in 39 years.
They bought that team too
That team 39 years ago
Yeah those SMU
Alums start opening up their pocketbooks again
SMU could become a big time force
Do you really believe that
When you just said what you just said
I mean are we going to be talking about SMU being a perennial power
I mean power is a strong word
But force
I mean let me tell this
Is Florida State coming back?
Probably not right
Well
They got to recruit
and turn that thing around.
But yeah, I mean, look, Miami is resurgent.
Clemson's kind of whatever.
Louisville's okay.
You know, it's not a great conference, so SMU, sure.
That is weird.
SMU is playing for a chance at an ACCC title.
The Mustangs, right?
Yeah, they play at Gerald Ford Stadium.
Nice facility.
They have a lot of money.
They're kind of uppity.
I mean, you know what?
You have not insulted SMU fan.
Why don't you do that before we get out of this segment?
No, I mean, they all do well.
Have you ever met an SMU alum that rents?
No.
By the way, SMU girls are hot, too.
You ever met an SMU fan or alum who's unemployed, can't find a job?
I never met an SMU fan that doesn't wear like a turtleneck sweaters.
Yeah.
They're always like, I just got back from the Hamptons.
They raised it, they lift their collars up and walk around, and they call each other
Muffy and Dirk.
They're like, my dad's yacht broke down.
so we're on the second yacht this weekend.
Yeah, I mean,
you got it flaunt it, right?
And that's what SMU fan does.
Do people in Dallas even care about SMU?
I don't think they do.
No, they don't think they care about TCU for that matter.
Hot take, is SMU the best football team in Dallas?
Over the Cowboys?
Yeah.
Um,
look, Dallas won at Washington last week.
Granted, they had to get mixed extra point to win the game, but, you know.
One more news is a new nugget, Matt?
Yes, sir.
So the Rockets announced.
Monday nights, their game against OKC, they're going to do a happy hour.
So an hour before tip-off, $5 beer, $5 popcorn.
Connor, it's your birthday.
You want to go over there?
$5 beers?
I think I might be busy.
He's got a grown-out, Chris.
He don't have time for rockets.
All right.
Well, I'll be the guy at Toyota Center pounding $5 beers in the 5 p.m. hour.
Now, see, I can't do that because I've got to get ready for a broadcast.
All the broadcast might be a bit better.
Might make it better.
That's true. I never thought of it that way.
Thank you, Gordy, for the news at noon.
1214 is our time.
E. May Adoka, speaking of the Rock,
it's going to join us in the next segment of this radio show.
Come on in and join us right now.
You're more than welcome to do so.
713-212-5-790.
If you are a college football fan
and Chris Gordy has not insulted your school yet,
just wait. He's going to do it next.
Any school, Chris, you've not insulted yet,
let's see you've not bashed so far today.
You haven't taken any shots at my U of H yet,
but that's only a matter of time.
You got a rip on Texas Tech for something.
Arkansas, what else?
Baylor.
Baylor, we've got a rip on Baylor.
So next, up next, we'll be Gordy and Salture School.
713-213-2-790, 12-15,
the Matt Thomas show here from Philadelphia with Gordy here on Sports Talk 790.
More Matt Thomas now.
On Sports Talk 790.
1219.
Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Ross is in Australia today.
We look forward to getting him back in the next week or so.
Gordy's in here.
All right, Chris, we got EMA Doker coming up at the bottom of the hour,
but I'm going to give you a platform here because this is your sweet spot.
Saturday night, 6.30, Kyle Field,
100-something thousand people are going to be there.
High ticket cost, high hotel cost.
They're going to play a football game for the first time in,
how many years has been, 11 years, longer than that maybe?
Yep.
Who's winning between fighting Texas A&M and fighting Texas Longhorns?
I said it before the season.
I picked the Aggies to win this game because of where it is in College Station.
That'll be Ross Bjork's lasting legacy at A&M on his way out the door off to Ohio State.
The one thing he fought for tooth and nail was to get the first reiteration of this game back in
Kyle Field, which
Ross and some other
Longhorns have a problem with, because the last time you played this
game, November of 2011,
it was in College Station.
So, you know, by taking turns,
alternating, this should have been
in Austin this year, but
again, the Aggies fought for it, and I said
this in the summer, before we knew how good
A&M would be. I said, they're going to put
every ounce of everything they have
in a win in this game. They're going to treat it like the Super Bowl.
And I said, I don't care if the Aggies have
five wins, six wins, eight wins,
whatever it is, they're going to put everything they have into win in this game.
Well, it turns out they're actually a pretty good team.
Eight and three, yes, they just lost on the road at Auburn in overtime, quadruple over time.
So, but nonetheless, they're going to put everything they have into this game.
And Texas, look, they've been a good team all year.
The defense has been awesome.
Anthony Hill's been great.
You know, there's so many good pieces, but I just wonder if they're walking into a Hornet's nest.
Suddenly Kelvin Banks and some of those old linements start getting fall.
starts because you got a bunch of
100,000 Aggies screaming and yelling
and all that kind of stuff.
So, yeah, I mean, I'm sticking
with the Aggies because it was my preseason
pick. But again, would it
shock me if Texas pulls out of win? No, I think that's
probably the chalk. They're
five and a half point road favorites
and the winner of this game will go to Atlanta
to play Georgia for the SEC
championship. But I don't
know, man. I just think at night
at Kyle Field, that
place is going to be absolutely buzzing.
How many quarterbacks will play for A&M on Saturday?
I think it will be one.
I think it will just be Marcel Reed.
I think his athleticism is what you need in this game.
Should we be watching Connor Wegman's future in the portal?
Absolutely.
You know where people are thinking about where he might go.
You of H?
Yep.
All right, I'll take that.
Wegman's a good talent.
I mean, there were some...
Houston kid went to Bridgland, right?
I think of where he went?
There were some draft experts pinning.
him a few weeks ago as a first round pick next year.
Really?
And that was before he got benched and all that.
But that's his kind of like, that's his talent level.
So that'd be a huge pickup for Willie.
Okay.
We need a quarterback.
I had a call earlier about that.
All right.
How many quarterbacks will play for Texas this week?
I think we see Arch at least because that that ankle for Quinn, I was at the game last week.
He goes into the, you know, he comes off hobbled.
He goes into the medical tent.
When they went to halftime, he was the first one who ran into the locker room.
So they knew they were going to have to tape up that ankle.
They did an MRI.
They said it's not as serious as maybe they thought.
He did finish the game last week.
But he's hobbled.
And all it's going to take is Nick Scorton or one of the Shemars hitting him and knocking him down.
I think, you know, even for a series, I think we're going to see Arch Manning on Saturday.
Maybe it's a worst case, kind of like a change of pace kind of guy, right?
No, I don't.
Like if Quinn's healthy, I think you plays the whole game.
I just think there's going to be a moment where he's.
he's hobbled and has to come out of the game and Arch comes in.
Well, all I'm going to say is this, and Ross and I argue about this all the time,
for two schools that say they don't care about each other, they deeply care about each other.
And it's so funny how they just go to all ends.
A&M is like, we don't have a rival.
Texas says, our rival's Oklahoma.
And then all people call the show, you don't know, Matt.
You didn't go to their school.
you don't know. All I know is that for a better part of 10 years, every Longhorn or Aggie that's ever called the show, all they do is defend how that other school is not a rival of theirs.
It's like saying I'm not jealous of that pretty girl in my class when you know you're damn well, are jealous.
I, for one, with no dog in the, maybe a slight lean towards the Aggies because my son goes there.
But I'm happy they're playing each other. No disrespect to college.
baseball or to college basketball.
But this is what we dreamt of with the moment that Texas said they were leaving to go to the
SEC was to have these two teams playing on a semi-regular basis.
I do think, I think like if we're writing coaches in the SEC, I would probably put
Kirby's number one.
I think Sarkis number two right now.
I don't disagree.
I saw some Aggie fans calling Mike Elko fatter Jimbo over the weekend.
Why are people worrying about his weight?
That football team is 10 times more relevant than it was a year ago.
They are.
And I said, I thought, I thought 8 and 4 was what Aggies would go this year.
So they're one win already ahead of that.
So they're already ahead of schedule in my opinion.
Now, I saw on Twitter, tell me this is wrong.
The celebrity picker is going to be the coach?
No.
Not Sloss Nagle.
Is it really?
I saw that.
I don't believe it.
But I was like, that would be.
I was standing next to.
I was on the sideline pregame on Saturday, and I was standing right next to him.
He was out there.
It was one of those things where I wanted.
Who is that guy?
He looks familiar.
Oh, that Schlossesagle.
Because there's no way that Schossinger could go back to college station without having armed security.
Yeah.
Oh, that would be awesome, though, if he was.
Oh, you know what?
We're going to know by now.
Let me look at it up real quick.
I don't think you have announced it yet.
They haven't announced it?
I'm looking at it.
It better not be.
Well, who's the most?
famous Aggie they would want to put out there. Johnny Mansell.
But wasn't he already on?
Didn't they go to college station already?
You can't, yeah, if the games that ain't, you're not putting him on there to somebody pick
at a college station game. So that's, that's an erroneous tweet.
Yeah, it's a joke.
I mean, it kind of fits, though.
That would be awesome.
No, would not. He would not be. You would have massive chaos.
You'd be the first destructive game day in the history of game day.
So basically the Aggies, they should go with their current baseball coach, Michael, early.
Yeah, the problem is no.
one knows who that is.
Nobody, you're not doing that.
Who would be the definitive Aggie to go to?
It's got to be a football player, right?
No, it could be any celebrity.
But who's a celebrity ag?
Lahl Lovett.
Lyle Lovett is who they go with?
I don't know.
Who are the famous alums?
Wait a minute, it's a Wednesday of game week.
We don't know who it's going to be yet.
We kind of know right now.
No, they've waited until Friday to announce at times.
All right.
Let's turn our attention to the,
NBA. Our buddy, E. May Adoka,
is going to join us next year from Philadelphia. If you are
a fantasy football fan, get ready.
Dr. Rodel is going to join us in a half an hour.
1227. This is Sports Talk 790.
1231, Sports Talk
790, the Matt Thomas show with Ross
here in Philadelphia. Rockets
and the 76ers coming up tonight
after last night's game
with the Minnesota Timberwolves and went to
overtime. The Rockets are going to
go to the knockout round
of the in-season tournament. But first thing
first.
We're going to focus on tonight's opponent
the Philadelphia 76ers and we'll do that
with our friend E.M.A. Adoka, our head coach
of your Houston Rockets.
Coach, congratulations.
Very exciting victory
that Philadelphia,
excuse me, that Minnesota did everything
they could to take that one away in the fourth
quarter, but you got some key stops.
A man, Thompson,
Alpe got some going things offensively late in the
contest, some clutch
free throws. It was a really satisfying
victory. Not a perfect game, but it definitely a
satisfying one.
Yeah, it was one of the more sweet victories this year.
Due to all the things you just mentioned,
you know, obviously we built a lead and couldn't sustain it,
but battled our way back into it.
And I got a late lead.
They made a push late in the fourth.
And then we had a really good run in overtime.
We'll have a no run.
So a lot of ups and downs, but stuck with it.
A lot of guys stepped up and it was a full team effort.
How's everybody doing?
Everybody sleep all this night?
Do you sleep okay?
We're all going to be a little tired.
but we know what it is.
It's back to back that time of the year.
And this is a tough one.
Minnesota to Philly, lose an hour, get in late.
But I have to muster up energy, and nobody's going to feel sorry for you.
So this is where our depth comes into play, and guys will get ready for tonight.
But we know it's a good challenge on the hand.
And getting last night all the way, it was a good one.
But we'll make it even sweeter to get two on this trip.
Hey, the great shooting early on, Fred was knocking him down, Dylan was doing it.
man, there were so many different heroes.
How about the difference between the first and the second half with Alpi?
Two points in the first two quarters.
And look, I've called every one of his games, him going against Rudy Gobert.
Now, I don't know how much of a difference it is with Carl Anthony Townsend out there with him,
but that was the best night Alpi had going against Rudy Gobert, maybe in his NBA career.
Yeah, I mean, I think, you know, he really was distributing the ball well in the first half.
He had five assists in the first quarter, and I want him to say,
seven around halftime. Obviously, it ended with a triple double. So he took what the game gave him.
They were really showing a crowd there on his rolls when he found it in the pocket. And he got Jabari, a lot of those threes, dealing a lot of those kickout threes.
And so he did what came natural made the right play. And so they went away from that at some point to start guarding the shooters.
And he really got to go to work one-on-one quite a bit on Gober. And so great to see him, obviously, come through in the second half scoring-wise. But I think he had a really good overall game.
obviously with the stat line you see.
And, yeah, Gobert is a tough challenge,
but he uses his strength inside, kind of muscled him under,
and kind of had his way with him, especially in the fourth quarter.
Did he need a game like that?
Because I know there have been some times where I felt like he's probably been pretty frustrated
because Gobert is such a defensive presence,
that now his confidence level just goes up going against a guy like that
and having as much success as he did.
Yeah, I think he really did a good job of moving himself around,
and, you know, he wasn't only attacking in the post.
he was finding it on the roll and the pick and roll,
had some of those little mid-range shots,
but also some of the isos around the elbows
where he can use this quick first step
and kind of get into his body there,
so he can't time him on the blocks.
And so he did it all every which way,
especially late in the game like you saw in the overtime.
Obviously, he took over there,
but great to see him find a way
against a really good defender that presents some challenges,
but we said it all the time.
Alpi is going to be a matchup problem against pretty much everybody in the league,
and he figures out how to get it done.
It's just his versatility moving.
him all around is obviously a big
asset for him. I'm going to start
trying to push for a man, Thompson is like
sixth man of the year kind of candidate, coach.
He has been crushing it. The
side pocket three was huge for you last
night. The mid-court steals, that's almost every
single night. From a shooting
perspective, a massive
overhaul on how it leaves his hand,
is it just rhythm, is it experience,
is it better placement? I mean, it could be all
the above, but not that he does a lot
of that kind of deep range shooting, but that
three last night he had late in the game couldn't have come
a better time.
Yeah, I'd say it's a lot of what you just mentioned, but mainly confidence.
He puts the work in.
He's taking tons of reps this summer and he does it every day.
And so the stroke looks a little more smooth, no doubt about that.
But confidence-wise, he's not afraid to let a fly.
He gets to the spots and doesn't always let them force him to take the shots that
they want him to take.
He'll attack and slice to the basket.
But once they start to sag off a little bit more, he's very comfortable shooting that
quarter three especially and so it was good to see that happen obviously the steals and the full
court layup that was a big one late in the game but um he's going to continue to grow and he puts
it into work so his confidence is going to continue to be sky high and making a shot like that late
in the game alone he boosted even more he may adoka with us here on sports talk seven and a coach
you know when we were growing up college players played two three four years now most guys are
one and there was a lot of that last night with read out there and they obviously dilling end was
out there and you'll see some of that tonight as well.
Do you as a coach just kind of
have to sometimes take a step
back and go, damn, 20 years ago
these 19-year-olds were finishing up their freshman year
in college. Now they're expected to be rotation
guys in the MBA and how have you
treated those type of players
a little differently knowing that still
even though they're very exceptional
fine athletes,
the NBA game, the adjustment
from a year in G League or a year in college
is still so significantly different.
Yeah, you have to be
patient and understand that, you know, the rookies coming in are obviously three, four years younger
than they used to be. And so the experience alone and the maturity and the physicality and,
you know, they're growing into their bodies, all those things. You have to take those into account.
And so what we try to do is expedite the process as much as we can and get their IQ up and
the physical will come when it comes. Obviously with these guys been a little bit younger,
but, you know, what I always say is if you're a smart player, you're a smart player,
It doesn't matter if you're 19 or if you're 25.
And so you will gain some more things and some more tricks being, you know, being around playing and having the experience.
But we want to try to get the IQ up and obviously the mental side of the game.
And so you're seeing growth in steps by guys as we go.
And we love to watch that.
And like I always say, it takes everybody a different point in their career to kind of hit that light bulb moment.
But when you see a click for guys, as you're seeing with some of our guys firsthand, it's a great thing.
And so we just want to continue to go.
grow throughout the year and guys take
those steps like they did last year and then carry
over into this year. Philadelphia
is really struggling, not that we're
feeling sorry for them, coach, but a thought or two
look, injuries are a large
part of the reason why, and you're going to have
three players out tonight for them as well. Is that
the number one thing when you scout them as you
look forward to tonight? They just have not
been able to have any sort of cohesive starting five
at any point during the season?
Well, yeah, obviously that's
very indicative of their record. But the guys
that they are missing, it's, you know,
they've had their main three guys out for quite a bit,
but other guys have stepped up, Maxie's back now,
and you know what he can do by himself.
And so I have to be really conscious of the other guys that have stepped up.
McCain is playing well,
and then other role players are going to try to take advantage.
And so for us,
it's go about our business and be consistent and play to our standard
not to a level who's out there in front of us.
And so we want to see some growth on our part,
you know, maturity of a tough back-to-back.
And I understand we have a few days off after this.
And so we want to attack that.
And like you said, nobody feels sorry for anybody in the NBA.
This is just a part of it.
Injuries is a part of it.
And scheduling is a part of it.
So we'll take care of what's in front of us and try to get one tonight in Philadelphia.
Well, I don't want you getting teed up tonight, but you're going to probably be a shorter trigger.
We're all going to be a little crankier.
Just explain to the officials, if you've got something to complain about, say, look, I'm working off a five hours sleep.
They'll amend that technically.
There's no chance you're getting one tonight.
I got you.
I hope.
I hope.
Well, get a nap, and we'll see you at the arena later on.
Thank you for the time as always.
Thank you, guys.
I will see.
E. May Adoka with us here on The Matt Thomas show with Ross, Rockets, and 76ers playing
tonight.
We'll have the broadcast with the launch pad at 5 o'clock network pregame at 530,
and I'll have the call here from Philadelphia at 6 p.m.
All right.
It's coming up.
We got Dr. Roto in about 20 minutes from now.
We have Connors Rotten 5, and then believe it or not today is all things about the Thanksgiving
meal, a variety of things about 8.
everything about Thanksgiving meal, and we're going to do it for a shout-out and a $790
T-shirt.
So you get both today, if you want on, believe it or not, and we'll do that coming up at about
$1.50 this afternoon.
7-13-212-5-790.
7-1-3-212-5-7-90.
Again, Rockets winning that game yesterday over Minnesota, puts them at 13 and 6, which has got to be their
best 19 game start in at least five or six seasons, and it also advances into the knockout
round of the NBA tournament, which will not be, we got another week of games to go.
And then the tournament starts where you knock it down to the four teams.
It'll be four in each conference.
And then if you play the knockout game and win that, the team will go to Las Vegas to play
at least one game, if not two, for a chance of that in-season cup.
I don't know if it resonates with you as fans.
It's the goal everybody has before that.
I mean, like, it's all, remember back in the days when Hakeem was here,
they would all be like, man, if we could get to that knockout round.
No, they were not.
people we're talking about.
Now, I don't have any editorial control over this.
But I'm going to ask the Rockets.
I don't think we raise a banner
for an in-season cup like the Lakers did.
I don't know. It's been
a while since we've had anything to cheer about
with the Rockets. I would
have a problem with it.
I think we should have like,
well, I don't know if I want a banner.
What will be the next best thing
after a banner?
after a banner?
I don't know.
I mean, hell, if the Texans
celebrate AFC South over and over again,
at least I guess the Rockets are doing is raise a banner, right?
Yeah.
No, you should play some of the best teams in the NBA.
If you win this, yes.
You absolutely celebrate it.
Okay.
Should I get a commission?
Cut?
No.
Winners fee?
Zero.
You get a trip to Vegas.
Thank you.
You're probably right about it.
All right.
All right.
You know what I've changed my mind.
You've convinced me.
Let's raise a banner.
Lakers did it.
us. But you know, I'm putting the cart well before the horse there.
All right, 713, 212, 7190. 713, 212, 570 if you want to get in on the conversation.
Texans or bracket practice today, getting ready for Jacksonville.
We'll tell you about some of the things going on over there, getting ready for that game.
And, you know, we ought to do, we should make some predictions on that game.
Who's going to win that one? It better be Houston, or this city's going to flip out come Monday.
713-212-5-790 1243.
Matt here in Philly.
Gordy back in Houston.
On this is Sports Talk 790.
Good morning, strippers.
Shower with the Matt Thomas show.
Wash off the glitter and daddy issues.
Jonathan and Alexander of the Chronicle says that he's not spotted Will Anderson Jr. at practice yet.
You know what I feel like?
like gordy that these wednesday practices are just
we should have zero concerns about
Wednesday practice it's all about Thursday
at the night on the field doing something that we should start to wig out
don't you feel like that's the case now in the NFL this late in the year
yeah well it's hard you lose tracking all the days too because I felt that I was checking my
fantasy line up last night and I saw a monroe St. Brown of the
Lions was he hadn't practiced I'm like oh no big deal
then I realized oh wait they play Thursday morning
so it's you know you get lost
in all the days with all the moving parts
in the NFL. But yeah, I'm
with you. If you're playing on a Sunday and you're out
practicing Wednesday, it is no cost
for concern. The Thursday and Friday
reports are the most important.
Trevor Lawrence, by the way, practicing today for Jacksonville.
He will be
probably out there.
It doesn't matter.
I think we, I think we as sports
media, and I'm trying to collectively talk about
this as an entire group, oh,
football fans an apology.
Because remember Trevor Lawrence is supposed to be
generational talent, Gordy, and he has done nothing but just be pedestrian at best.
I'm tired of waiting for him to turn the corner.
He's just average, period, and his story, another way around it.
Well, wasn't he awesome his rookie year, though?
No, I don't think he was.
Let's see.
I think it was a second year that he was a lot better.
Hang on.
So, 2021 was the first year.
In 2022, they made the playoffs.
2022.
Okay, so year two, it was like, oh, the proverbial lights coming on.
Didn't he had that one game where he threw a bunch of?
interceptions in their first half of a game and then one
I'm throwing like for four touchdowns in the second half,
something like that? Yeah.
Yeah, they won a
playoff game against the Chargers.
Yeah. But I mean, he... And then lost
in Kansas City by a touchdown.
Yeah, that was... They went to the
NFC championship game, right?
That was
divisional round. Okay, division.
But still, like, to go into Kansas City and lose by
seven. Well, Texans
have done that. And then
they came back the next year and they went,
nine and eight.
And then last year, yeah, that was last year.
They should have, remember they were winning,
they were leading the division much of the year last year.
And they should have won.
And they wanted that four games skid towards the end of the year.
And I let the checks open the door for the Texans.
And the Colts, for that matter, for that you think about that too.
And he was banged up a game in here and then, you know, C.J. Bethard started.
But this year, Trevor Lawrence, I mean, up until two weeks ago when Mack Jones had to make two starts,
It's like he's been, he was healthy for the first eight weeks of the season.
But he, I just, to me, I think he makes, you know, like CJ makes throws look easy.
I think Trevor Lawrence makes easy throws more difficult than they're supposed to be.
I think his touch is, and again, granted, I'm 90% of the time I've seen Trevor Lawrence play,
it's because he's playing against the Texans.
I mean, I would never choose to sit and watch a Jacksonville game unless I was being paid to do so.
But, you know what I'm saying?
I just, man, I think we all missed on this guy.
Either that or he read his own plus clippings or the NFL was just too big for his bridges.
Because when he was at Clemson, it was this guy's not going to be not only the first pick.
He's going to be, you know, paint Manning's out.
Here comes Trevor Lawrence.
Tom Brady's retiring.
This is going to be Trevor Lawrence's league.
And I think he's just been an average quarterback at best.
If I was starting a team, I would take C.J. Stroud in a million years over Trevor Lawrence.
But look at the misses on quarterbacks.
I mean, you go back to 2020,
Burrow, Tua, Justin Herbert, and Jordan Love,
and then, by the way, Jalen Hertz, right behind them in the second round.
Like, those are all hits.
Burrow, Tua, Herbert, Love, and Hertz.
I mean, those are the top five quarterbacks, and those were all hits.
21 was Trevor Lawrence,
Zach Wilson, Trey Lance.
That was your one, two, three.
Justin Fields was 11th.
He's now a backup.
Yeah.
Mac Jones was 15th. He's now back up.
Right.
And the rest of your quarterbacks in that draft suck.
Davis Mills included.
22, you had one first round pick.
It was Kenny Pickett.
Where's he now?
I mean, it's...
He's been ESPNU games, isn't he?
And then last year was Bryce Young number one,
C.J. Stroud to Anthony Richardson,
four, and then Will Levis in the second round.
It's been a big blah for quarterbacks.
And this year's quarterback,
here's the thing.
All I've been told from the people that follow this stuff
is that this year's NFL draft class is not good.
You know what that means?
They're going to be phenomenal this year coming up.
Yeah.
Well, look, last year everybody was all aboard the Caleb Williams hype train.
He looks, he's having a decent rookie year.
Right.
But Jane Daniels, the way he's played for the commanders and turned them around,
like you can make a case he should have been number one.
Drake May has not been much of anything at three Pennix,
who went eighth overall, hasn't even played because he's been by Kirk Cousins.
And J.J. McCarthy was going to play in Minnesota, but he got hurt.
Bow-Nicks at 12 is actually looking pretty good.
He's actually turned it on here and playing pretty decently.
Can we also say something, too?
Sean Payton's a good football coach.
Yeah, I mean, if you want to get to the playoffs and lose every year, yeah.
God, it feels like that was the Saints venom coming out of your pores right there.
Well, he gets all the credit.
Look, he did something nobody could ever do.
He brought the Saints a Super Bowl.
But outside of that, it was a lot of heartbreaking,
just gut-wrenching playoff losses.
But do you think if we wouldn't pull Denver Bronco fan,
they wouldn't be pleased of where this team is right now?
Oh, yeah, yeah.
I mean, it's primarily the,
defense though. Bow Nix has been good, but
he's not hurt. Let me ask you this. Bo Nix, Trevor
Lawrence. I got to win a game in December. Who am I going
with? I'm probably taking Bo Nix
right now. Yeah. Yeah.
I think you are.
Bo Nix or
Drake May. I got to win a game in December.
Who am I going with? Yeah. Bo Nix.
What's that Lianna doing with Pennix?
Pennix is already like 25, 26.
Oh, by the way, you cannot talk to Falcon
fan about that pick. They'll get mad at you.
we have our reasons for this we know what we're doing
yeah and you're overpaid kirk cousins
like he's been overpaid everywhere he's been
he's been fine
guys they're okay i mean they're you know it's a utterly
unwinnable division the nfc south is a joke i mean generally speaking
the afc south is a joke i'm looking
you see what the jaggs have done this year good god their defense is awful
yeah they spent a lot of money on on the skill position players last year hasn't
panned out. I mentioned Lawrence.
Got a new deal a couple of years back. That hasn't been great.
They have no run game.
ATN and Tank Biggsby have been, I mean, they've just been
Bigsby's been fine, but ATN, for being a first round pick, he has not lived up to the hype.
Like, who was our big surprise team in the NFL this year?
Big, big surprise.
Detroit were not surprised by.
Philadelphia are not surprised by.
Maybe the Chargers being competitive because of Jim Harbaugh's first year.
But, you know, they had some pieces.
commanders have slid a little bit
they've lost three in a row but they're seven to five that's
nobody had that yeah
all right before we get to uh dr rhodo let's talk
to uh larry with us at 1255
on 790 hi larry
don't be bad at me
I'm just annoyed I just
Larry
is that your girl she annoyed about something
this guy just called one second ago
what
what are they doing back there
Larry
the dumb button
not just in case.
Larry.
Oh, here we go.
Oh, here we go.
He's got us.
There we go.
Larry.
How about how y'all doing today?
Larry, why is your girl annoyed?
Why is your girlfriend annoyed?
Well, who's in the car with you?
We heard a girl, we just heard a girl complain about she's annoyed about something.
What's her, what's her problem?
I got two daughters in my truck, and I don't know.
Georgia, what do you know about?
We had to take her dog to the vet today, so that's probably what she's annoyed about it.
All right, well, hopefully the dog will be okay.
Oh, she's going to be fine.
I mean, mine.
Man, what are these Texans going to do with that offensive line?
Oh, God, they can either run block or pass block, but they can't do both a scene, you know.
They can either do one really well, or they can, you know, horrible.
Jesus Christ.
Larry?
What?
I'm going to tell you how it is.
You are telling me how it is.
I appreciate that.
They can't pass block.
They haven't passed blocked in months.
The run block has been up and down.
I'll give you that.
Yeah.
I mean, they lost me a bunch of money this last week.
Lord, in mercy.
What are you doing?
Betting out on the side or what?
You got a bookie?
Well, hell, yeah.
Maybe that's why your daughter's annoyed.
She's losing a Christmas residence to be you
because you're betting all this money on the side.
She makes more money than I do, so.
Well, then, how have her pay the bookie off then?
Let's go.
There you go.
What do y'all do for Thanksgiving?
We're going to eat turkey, stuffing, watch three football games,
and then I'm going to Utah on Friday.
What are you going to do?
We're going to go tomorrow since then Thanksgiving,
and eat turkey and stuff.
Yeah, it'll be in family time.
It'll be all good.
all right well go get that dog take care of that dog and let us know how things work out
all right but hey hey are them texas gonna win against the jackart come up they better because i'm
doubling down on them so they better okay well don't risk don't risk your daughter's future on
that i don't know what she makes more money you know what that was that was like a phone call for an
old friend gordon i don't even know who there is but i feel like we're very tight it's like call it
i'm just calling to check in what y'all doing for the holiday you know we ought to do a segment
Cup, what's y'all doing?
Hey, you know, Marcy's got to go to the vet again, you know.
Gordy, what are you doing?
You're going to hang out with the in-laws, right?
Yeah.
And then I'm going to stuff up on Turkey early so I can fall asleep when we see Cooper Rush versus Tommy DeVito.
The chance of me watching that entire Dallas Giants game is zero percent.
Somebody's performed at halftime, though.
You know what?
I couldn't even guess.
The Texans will have, what's that, the Christmas Day game?
game against
yeah Beyonce is
good perform yeah
that isn't going too well apparently
we need to bring back Creed
that was one of the most epic Thanksgiving
Day performances at Dallas Cowboys
Stadium
Creed yeah
you're gonna
better than Beyonce
yes that's ridiculous
all right
end this first end this hour of the show
talk like Creed go ahead you can do it
coming up
hour two
it's a Matt will take
you higher
Get your
fantasy football
advice
Can you take Roto higher?
All right that's enough.
I'm six spots from the edge
of the playoffs
By the way, it's my last year of fans football
Did you know this Gordi? I'm done after this.
I think we're all done. I think we're all done.
Roto is up to start the next hour.
the Matt Thomas show with Ross Gordy.
And back in Houston, I'm here in Philly on Sports Talk 790.
Launch timers.
This is the Matt Thomas show.
Can't start Roto without his famous intro.
There we go.
Who's I really don't know what I should do.
Passes 30 minutes, a major market radio begins with our good friend, the one and only
Dr. Roto.
Happy early Thanksgiving, Dr. Roto.
These are some interesting games.
I wouldn't say must watch, especially that middle game
between the Giants and the Cowboys, but that's why we bring you on because you're going to find
us value in two dog crap teams playing the middle on Thanksgiving Day.
MT, happy Thanksgiving to you, it's all the listeners to everybody out there.
Yeah, this is one of those, you know, when the wife is giving you the evil eye and saying maybe
the football game shouldn't be on during Thanksgiving, you can say, all right, I understand,
honey, that, you know, we could shut it off for maybe a quarter or two and not have to watch
the Giants and Cowboys.
But I don't know if you saw Drew Locke is getting the star, Tommy DeVito.
was out and I'm fully
expect that. And I think that's going to help Malik
neighbors because the Giants did not get
him one reception in the first half last
week. I mean, that is criminal.
And he, look, he got angry at it
and I don't blame him. And you know what
Carl Banks said, he wants
21, give me 21 neighbors. You want guys
who are pissed off about not getting the football.
So I think this is a neighbor's
week. I think this is a Tyrone Tracy
week. I think Rico
D. D. D. D. Adel's firmly in play. And I think
C.D. Lamb is firmly in play. After
that, it's a crap shoot.
We have teased about the fact
in years past that Miami goes to
cold weather places and they just
don't do well. Remember there was a playoff game
in Kansas City. I don't know how long ago
it was, but they just looked
completely out of sync. They're
playing on a Thursday night, tomorrow night
in Green Bay in the night. Temperatures probably
in the 20s. Two is done
well. They've won three straight games.
Are you a little concerned about Miami's
skill position players playing in the
tundra? Yeah, you know,
Look, gambling trends exist because they occur, right?
So, I mean, when it's below a certain temperature,
to what does not perform very well.
I think it's like 46 degrees or something like that.
And I think you're right.
You're probably looking at high 20s, low 30s at best.
This is a bad matchup for Miami, right?
You've got Josh Jacobs,
and they are loving running the ball right now in Green Bay.
They're a run-first team.
Miami sometimes can't deal with the run very well.
If the Packers can establish the run,
then it's going to set up Jordan Love for some play-action passing.
and I think Miami's in big trouble.
Do I like Tyree Kill?
Yeah, I mean, of course I like Tyree Kill,
but I just think that I don't want to tell people
to bench a Chan and Tyreek.
I don't like Jaylen Waddle.
I don't think he's going to have another week like he did last week.
I think that you're going to have to wait on that one.
John O'Smith is in play,
but look, I've got two in a league.
I'm benching him.
I just don't feel comfortable.
But I think you're starting Jacobs, you're starting Jane Reed.
You're starting a Chan.
You're starting Tyreek and hoping for the best from those guys.
Chicago, Detroit, gets things started for us.
Is there any part of you that says the Detroit's, and look, when Jared golf throws five interceptions,
that might have been the down week and they still survived and beat the Texans, obviously.
But is there any party that says that they're not going to be slowed down at any point?
And would it be this week or are they expecting a more high-octane from them offensively?
This is a high-octane game, right?
This is the Bears on Thanksgiving against the Lions, a fired-up crowd.
You know, Lions always play really well at home, or at least they have recently.
This feels to me like it's a lot for Caleb Williams to handle.
The Detroit runs a lot of man coverage.
Caleb doesn't do great with man coverage.
He's been better recently.
Getting rid of the offensive coordinator has helped.
And I know there's the D.Andre Swift revenge narrative.
I'm just not buying into that.
So can you start DJ more?
Yes.
Can you start Keenan Allen?
Absolutely.
Can you start Caleb Williams?
I guess if you're desperate, you probably can.
I don't really like Swift on the other side.
I'm worried about David Montgomery.
He left last week with a shoulder injury.
So this could be a Jemir Gibbs featured week, right?
So you have him.
You got St. Brown, and I think that the Chicago will do whatever they can to neutralize St.
Brown, but you still have James and Williams on the outside.
You still have Sam Leporta, who's finally healthy.
So Gibbs and more of my favorite two guys in this game.
The rest are more peripheral, but, I mean, all playable.
Garner-Mensch out for the season.
Friday night or Friday afternoon.
It's that Black Friday game in Kansas City.
Is there anybody from the Raiders were playing in this bad boy?
And will the chiefs get out to a big lead and maybe arrest him folks?
How do you anticipate this going down this week?
So I think the answer to both questions is yes.
I mean, look, I like Aiden O'Connell more than I like Gardner-Minschow.
I thought Aiden O'Connell should have started at the beginning of the season.
I mean, he's not great, but he doesn't make mistakes like Minchu does.
Munchu just makes a lot of dumb errors.
Brock Bowers is firmly in play.
A thousand percent.
The chiefs do not cover the tight end well.
Bowers may be one of the best players this week.
Do I love Jacoby Myers?
Not as much. We don't really know yet
whether Madison or White play. I think they
do. But Amir Abdul is a thing.
He's a receiving back, and I think that he's
somebody that, if desperate, like last
week, I mean, I know I played him a couple of weeks
in a couple of leagues. I think he's playable.
On the other side, look, I love the Chiefs.
Pacheco is expected back.
I think he's going to be involved, maybe 15
to 18 touches. Kareem Hunt is still there. I think they'll both share.
Kelsey, we haven't seen him in the end zone or a while.
I think he does score against the Raiders.
And then this is a chance between Hopkins, worthy, you know, to get that passing game going.
We really haven't seen it be at that high level yet.
They're trying to get worthy involved.
Maybe this is the week he finally scores.
Game of the week is the Eagles at the Ravens, Baltimore with two very tough back-to-back road games at Buffalo
and then the cross-country trip to the Chargers.
They looked like they were high octane.
Were you blown away as I was?
how explosive the Ravens were, especially that second half against the Chargers on Monday night?
I was, and you've got to give a little credit to Bill Belichick.
I don't know if people watch the Man and cast.
I do because I like learning from those guys and listening to them.
You know, Belichick, there was a point where it was fourth and one,
and Belichick goes, I would have kicked the field goal to go up two scores.
He was right.
You needed every score you possibly could get against that Baltimore Ravens team.
So the Ravens, the key to this game, in my opinion, is going to be the health of Devontas Smith.
when Devontas Smith is out, which he very well could be with a hamstring injury,
now you've, I mean, John Dotson, Johnny Wilson, not good enough, right?
You've got A.J. Brown, who's a sensational matchup and one of the best starts of this week,
but they're going to be able to double cover him.
So, yes, you're starting Sequin, yes, you're starting Hertz, yes, you're starting Goddard,
but I think not having Devonza Smith is going to be big for the Eagles,
which is going to make this game much easier for Baltimore.
and Baltimore is, I mean, sorry, the Eagles have been stingy against the pass, but it won't matter.
You got Derek Henry there.
And then you've got Flowers and Andrews who's played so much better.
And now Rashad Bateman is emerging.
Deontay Johnson, think about this, M.T., how good has this guy been?
He's barely played.
So I think you start all your Ravens in this game, but for this game to really explode, you need Devontas
Smith in there.
All right. Titans commanders.
Commanders are struggling as of late, lost that game on a last second to miss.
extra point. Titans came to Houston and shocked the world. Even though the Titans aren't
going on the playoffs, did you gain any fantasy value with Will Levis's performance last week,
especially when he got the ball in the air? Yeah, the last three weeks. Will Levis has been
much better the last three weeks. And this team is better when Spears said,
will say this. When he's out, they feature Pollard. So then it becomes Levis,
Pollard, and Ridley. Three guys you could start in fantasy, no problem. I think Will Levis has earned that.
at this point. Is he great? No. I mean, maybe he's a James Winston type. He makes a lot of good
plays. He makes a lot of point-head plays. It happens, right? Now, the other side here, Washington
has felt like I was watching North Dallas 40. You get down, you score the touchdown, and you
blow the extra point. I mean, that sucked. But I love Terry McClure in this week. I think he's
firmly in play. The big question is this. Echler took a big shot at the end of the game. He could
be out. Brian Robinson dealing with an ankle and knee injury. You might have Jeremy McNeckle starting
If that happens, this game's going to be a lot closer than people think.
All right.
Last thing before I go to the phones,
Joe Mixon's Feast or Famine, it feels like.
Tell me about what he can do this week.
Any Texan players you want to use against that Jacksonville run defense,
and then tell me about the impact of Trevor Lawrence returning the lineup for the Jags this Sunday.
Well, look, for fantasy purposes, we want games that go back and forth.
You know, bringing Mac Jones there, you don't get the back and forth.
We want Trevor Lawrence to play as fans.
fantasy managers. We want them to score because it's better for our teams, maybe not a real-life
team, but better for our fantasy teams. Joe Nixon's a great start this week. I mean, look, how good
has he been all year? He should be an MVP contention. I think you're starting him. I think you're
starting Stroud. And Nico Collins is a fantastic start. On the other side of the football,
I think you always are going to play ETN. You're going to play Evan Angram. I believe Lawrence
will start. And Brian Thomas Jr. has been a special, special talent. I think we're going to enjoy
watching him to this week.
All right, you got any questions or comments for Dr. Roto? Get him in right now.
713-213-212-5-790.
7-1-2-5-790. Your chance to talk to Dr. Roto is next.
He's with us to the bottom of the hour. This is Sports Talk 790.
Matt Thomas returns on Sports Talk 790.
We've got a lot of folks that want to get in. I've got a lot of emails.
We've got to go quick on this, Rorto.
We've got people that need your help badly.
Cliffs on email.
Three of these receivers start.
Moore, Waddle, Dell, Dubs, Watson, Jennings.
My God.
Three of those.
I'll go again.
More, Waddle, Dell, Dobbs, Watson, Jennings.
All right, DJ Moore, yes.
Tank Dell, yes.
Waddle, I don't like in the cold and green bay.
Jennings could be in a snowstorm in Buffalo.
I'm worried about that.
So I'm thinking I'm going to go Watson
over Dobbs. Dobbs left last week's game with an injury. Watch that closely. If Dobbs is out,
Watson would firmly be in for me. All right. Tua or C.J. Stroud?
I don't trust Tua in the cold in Green Bay. Give me C.J. Stroud all day.
Aaron Jones, David Montgomery.
Montgomery left last week's game with a shoulder injury. So I believe we're going to see
more Gibbs. That doesn't mean we're not going to see Montgomery. I just think that Aaron Jones
at home against the Cardinals, great start.
Gough or Mahomes?
Ooh, that's a tough one, M.T.
I remember that one last week.
You know, a golf played well.
He just didn't have the touchdown passes.
I'm thinking that Gough throws at least two at home.
Give me Gough at home and a higher scoring team.
Do you start Cook and Allen in the snow with Jared Gough on the bench?
Wow. I think I start, I'm going to start golf over Allen. It's close, but I'm going to start golf over Allen. I'm going to start James Cook all the time. I mean, the bills are a running team. The bills are no longer a passing team. They're more of a running and a quick throw team than they are deep passing team, especially in that kind of crappy weather. All right. Two of these guys played. Dottle, Tracy, Cup, or Harrison Jr., two of the four play.
Give me the two receivers, and we'll talk about one of those two during the lock of the week.
All right, very good.
Oh, that's a light's tease right there.
To the phones we go.
Let's talk to some people.
Colin in Pearland for Dr. Roto at 122.
Hi, Colin.
Hey, guys.
I got a Bo Nix or Kyler Murray.
It's a really good question here.
So, I mean, the Browns are good defense, but Bo Nix is playing at high level.
My problem with Kyloor Murray is this.
The Vikings are going to pressure him like you wouldn't believe.
And I don't let know if he plays so well in pressure.
that being said, if he can use his mobility, he's going to have a lot of one-on-one
opportunities.
So I think Kyler is the higher upside play, Flores the higher – Knicks is the higher floor play.
If you understand what I'm talking about there.
Nix is going to get you about 18 points.
Kyler could get your 14, but if you get you at 24.
If you need the points, if you're playing a tough team, I think I'll lean Kyla.
Let's go to Rich in Kingwood at 122 for Dr. Rodo.
Go ahead, Rich.
Hey, I got Higgins, Harrison Jr. and Sutton, two need to start.
Yeah, I'm going to play T. Higgins. I think the Bengals and Steelers game is going to be higher scoring that people think.
Look, I like Sutton. Sutton has done nothing wrong, and I think he's just more reliable right now than Harrison.
I like Harrison's good players, young, but, I mean, Sutton is a firm number one.
And let me ask you this question. If we had a draft over again, would Bo Nix not be a weekly starter?
He absolutely would be. He's been fantastic.
traffic this year. Yeah, we were just talking about that earlier in the show, as a matter of fact.
Let's go to Trey and Katie for Dr. Roto. Hi, Trey.
Hey, Doc. PPR League, I need to want Leporta, Taysam Hill, or Will Disle?
So look, there was just a report yesterday that Darren Rizzi, the Saints coach, loves how they're using Taysam Hill.
I love how they're using Taysam Hill. I mean, when he's on the field, they are a better team, whether you like him or not, whether he kills your fantasy hopes or
dreams are not. He catches some. He runs some. He throws some. I don't know how you bench Taysam Hill
at this point. And I know Dissley's been good. And I know Leportez is a good player. But Taysam Hill
could put up 35 points. What other time then could do that?
All right. Thank you for that. Let's go to BJ on 790 for Dr. Roto. Go ahead, B.J.
All right. So I'm currently sitting with Lamarckson, Justin Herbert, and Tua. I really need a
running back and a receiver. Do I trade Lamar Jackson to build up on my receivers and running backs
and take a chance with two under? Do I keep...
Yeah, I think you trade Tua. I think you trade Tua, who's had a couple of really good games.
I think you try to win with Lamar. I mean, Lamar is going to be off next week anyway,
so I mean, if you try to pull a fast one, I get it. But I think I'm trading Tua. I'm going to
play Herbert likely this week and next week, and then you play Lamar in the playoffs and you try to win with
tomorrow.
All right, thanks, B.J. for the phone call. Let's go to
Jimmy and Tom Ball on 7-90. Hi, Jimmy.
Hey, guys. Happy Thanksgiving.
I need to play two of the three in my
left spot, half BPR.
Marvin Harrison Jr., Dick Chubb,
and Rashad White.
We're definitely playing Rashad White. We're definitely playing.
And Carolina just lets up tons of yards
to running backs. And Tampa Bay has
two great ones. Bucky Irving is a weekly
starter. If you don't think so, you're not
watching those games closely.
Bucky Irving is fantastic, and Rashad White is firmly in play.
Look, this is a tougher one here because Nick Chubb doesn't catch the football,
just doesn't.
And James has been throwing a lot.
So Nick Chubb is touchdown dependent.
That's something that's scary on the road in Denver.
I mean, we could be looking at 15 for 40.
Now, if he scores a touchdown, you've got 10 points, but if he doesn't score, you can have
four.
I think you've got to play Marvin Harrison.
All right.
From Twitter, Love or Richardson at quarterback this week?
Oh, man, I mean, that's not pretty MK.
I think I'm going to go Jordan Love.
Do we really trust Richardson at this point?
And do we trust him in the wind in New England?
I don't think we can.
The dude only completed, what, 12 passes last week?
I think you got to play Jordan Love.
All right.
Back to Jacksonville for a second.
Are you playing Lawrence with the Texans' defense giving up as many big plays
I've done so far this year?
Look, he's not a focus point of mind, but he certainly play a ball.
I mean, I think that he's got a, you know, maybe a top 10, top, not a top 15 matchup, right?
So right now the Jaguars are expected to score about 19 points by Las Vegas.
That's two touchdowns.
Do I think Lawrence goes like 2, 15 and 1?
Yes, it's not going to help you win your league?
Probably not.
All right.
Last one, we go to Jerry and Katie on 790 for Dr. Roto.
Hi, Jerry.
Hey, how good going?
So do I start?
Nick Schell and Johnson and Tender husband only performing lately?
or should they stick with Jonathan Taylor.
And then the other question I have is...
Yeah, the other question I have is Tua,
so Part of you got hurt,
and Tua is the best quarterback I have available in the way, right?
Yeah, I mean, look, you go with Tua, mainly because PURD, A, would be in the snow,
and B is not 100%, so I think you do that.
To answer your other question, New England has not been good against the run,
to have it.
So I think this could be a Jonathan Taylor week.
Once again, with Nick Chub, it's not that I don't like that.
job. I just don't like him against Denver. Denver's played really good football. Let's give
Sean Payton all the credit in the world for bringing his A-game to Denver. They look light years better
than the last year, right? But I think it's Taylor in a game that the Colts should be able to win.
Ladies and gentlemen, we asked Dr. Roto once a week to give us an absolute knockdown 100% hit
for us in our fantasy leagues. Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you. Dr. Roto's
Lock of the week.
MT, I know we watched Kuka and Kua play real well last week.
He was fantastic, but I think it goes back to Cooper Cup.
New Orleans against slot receivers have been the worst team in football.
This is one of those games where Cooper Cup just, you know, piles on the points.
I think Cooper Cup goes 80 for 80 in a touchdown, and I'm locking them in.
Ladies and gentlemen, that is Dr. Rottos.
So we're actually going to have to pay attention to the Rams and Saints game this week
because you're telling us to do?
Payson Hill and Cooper Cup. Let's go.
Okay.
Sounds thrilling. Can't wait.
All right.
Look, are we going to bother you tomorrow or are we going to let Rodo and the family eat their turkey in peace?
Probably a little bit of both.
I might answer a couple of questions somewhere around noon and then I might spend some time with the family.
But listen, good news.
Beginning on Saturday, if you go to...
to Dr.Roto.com and you enter the promo code playoffs, you get a free week of the website.
You get to see everything we have to help you guys get into the playoffs in your fantasy leagues.
So on Saturday morning, after Black Friday, you've done all your shopping, go to Dr.Roto.com
and the code playoffs.
You get a free week of the site this way.
We help you win.
All right.
Dr. Roto, and that keyword is, you said playoffs, right?
Playoffs.
There you go.
My man, have a great, safe, happy, eat a lot Thanksgiving.
We'll get back to our normal Thursday spot next week.
To you and yours, M.T. Be well. Take care now.
Thank you. That's good. Our buddy. Dr. Roto with us here on Sports Talk, 790.
Ladies and gentlemen, it takes absolutely no ability whatsoever to tell you who the five best teams are in the NFL.
Kansas City, Detroit, Philadelphia. I mean, I want to know who the five crappiest teams are.
Well, since the man who normally handles that crap is out and God knows where he is,
Connor D. McGovern is going to step in again with a fantasy, with the rotten five.
That's up next.
Believe it or not today, all things about Thanksgiving food and items associated with Thanksgiving.
And that is coming up in about 20 minutes from now.
But the Rotten Five is up next after I tell you about Sethi's fine jewelry.
I know your lady does not want a sweater for Christmas.
I know your girlfriend does not want a gift card.
She wants fine diamond jewelry.
And you're going to help her with that.
You're going to go to Sethi's fine jewelry.
where everything is 40% off.
I repeat 40% off the fine diamond jewelry that she so richly deserves.
Please do me a favor and go to Sethi's fine jewelry on Balls Road between San Felipe and Westheimer,
where you'll get great selection.
You'll find diamond tennis bracelets, diamond engagement rings.
If you're going to pop the question this holiday season, why not do it with the best diamonds you'll find in the city of Houston?
And that's all at Sethi's fine jewelry.
Sethi's fine jewelry, 40% off sale.
Get in till later today.
Get in maybe on Friday.
in this weekend and all during the holiday shopping season.
For 40% off, their biggest holiday sale ever,
it's at Sethi's fine jewelry,
Voss Road between San Felipe and Westheimer.
It is 135 of the Matt Thomas show with Ross from Philadelphia.
713-212-5-790.
You'll want to use that number for, believe it or not,
coming up in just a few minutes.
the category today is all things about
Thanksgiving and food.
Thanksgiving and
food. That'll be the topic.
We'll be playing for shoutouts and for $790
T-shirts. That in itself is a great value
right there. The Thanksgiving shout-out
is one of the things that's most cherished
in the Houston Sports Radio
landscape. You know, it's also a big
thing is trying to figure out who the
five crappiest teams are in the NFL.
No other radio show the marketplace is going to
give it to you. We've been doing this for years and we're going to
continue to do it. It's a time-honored tradition.
Death taxes and the Rotten Five.
They've gone bad.
Hey, they draw flies.
Ooh, it's Ross's Rotten Five.
This don't smell quite right.
All right, Matt, let's get into another edition of Conner's Rotten Five.
Love it.
The New York Jets didn't even play a football game this week,
but the stress level of every single Jets fan has been raised
after the firing of General Manager Joe Douglas,
and yet another drastic in-season move.
You already fired your head coach.
Now there's rumors that Aaron Rogers could be placed on IR or even benched for the rest of the season.
You went 7 and 10 last year with Zach Wilson as the quarterback for most of those games.
Now you're sitting at 3 and 8.
I can't believe one of those wins was against the Texans.
They just have yet to score 30 points in a game.
We don't know the future of Aaron Rogers.
We don't know who the Jets can draft to save the struggling organization.
All we know is that the New York Jets are the fifth worst team in the NFL.
The stadium is actually New Jersey.
New England Patriots spent some time off the Rotten 5 after an encouraging two-and-two stretch with wins over the jets and the bears,
but the Patriots have returned after losing 34 to 15 to the Miami Dolphins.
While the offense saw a slight improvement with Drake May taking over a quarterback in week 6,
you wouldn't have been able to tell on Sunday as the Patriots were down 31 to 0 by the fourth quarter
before some meaningless scores late in garbage time.
Hard to find success on offense with seven first-half penalties, six of them pre-snapsed.
Just ask the Texans.
Just ask the Texans.
The defense needs some work, ranking 31st in the league.
Is Gerard Mayo staying as head coach?
I don't know.
Patriots can stick with Drake May as their gem,
but they've got to build around him in the offseason.
But for now, the New England Patriots
are the fourth worst team in the NFL.
I'm the coach.
I do what's best for the football team.
I don't know why we can't understand that.
Bill, give it up.
You're not the coach anymore.
You know it's tough to watch your team
when the most consistent player is your punter.
That is the case for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Punter Logan Cook leads the NFL and net punting average.
A second yards per punt and has placed nine punts inside the 10 yard lane and oh my gosh,
I can literally hear our listeners turning the channel right now.
The Jaguars are another team that didn't play a football game last week,
but that doesn't mean they don't deserve to be taken off the rotten five.
Plus last week, they suffered their worst loss in franchise history with the lines putting up 52 points.
They've got the Texans in Jacksonville this Sunday, so for our sakes here in Houston,
hopefully they're lower on this list by next week.
Jacksonville currently having the best odds to get the first pick in the NFL
draft for the third time in a five-year span if things can continue to spiral.
We forget the Jaguars reached the ASC championship game in 2017,
but things fell apart so they rebuilt with Trevor Lawrence.
They had a strong season in 2022, but have crashed and burned yet again,
having lost 14 of their past 17 games.
Head coach Doug Pedersen and general manager Trent Bulk are fighting for their jobs.
Trevor Lawrence suggests to just be shut down.
for the rest of the season,
and Mack Jones can keep the Jacksonville Jaguars where they are
as the third worst team in the NFL.
Oh, we've been strong.
We're just playing by the rules.
Yeah, yeah, whatever, Jaguars.
You haven't met her yet, have you?
No, I haven't.
Have you met her?
I want you to imagine what she looks like.
Hmm.
I spend a lot of time in Point Blink, Texas, and around Lake Livingston.
I feel like she'd fit in well there.
Yeah, I mean, she's got a cigarette hang on her mouth.
She's missing a couple of teeth.
The other dark and brown.
A big mole somewhere on her face.
Oh, for sure.
Yeah.
And coughs up a lung because she's got smokers cough.
Yeah, no.
Yeah, those exist in Point Blank, Texas.
Anyway, guess who's staying right where they are number two on the Rotten 5?
I'll give you a hint that they lost 29 to 19 to the Denver Broncos and are on a seven-game losing streak.
Oh.
You got it.
It's the Las Vegas Raiders.
The quarterback situation couldn't be worse as Gardner Minshu suffered a season-ending injury on Sunday.
A.
O'Connell is set to return to the starting lineup after recovering from his own injury,
but they've got the Chiefs on Black Friday.
The first time these two teams face each other this season, the Chiefs won by only a touchdown.
And last year, the Raiders, who were struggling as much as they were now, stunned the Chiefs
on Christmas Day, so I guess anything is possible.
But if you don't believe in Aiden O'Connell, you can't really rely on the run game as the
Raiders have the worst rushing attack in the NFL.
Find a quarterback that can get Brock Bowers the ball, but until then, the Las Vegas Raiders
are still the second worst team in the NFL.
NFL.
It turns out Tommy DeVito is not the
Messiah in New York needed last week as the Giants
lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 30 to
7 last Sunday.
The Giants released Daniel Jones last
week, but we all kind of scratched our heads when the
Giants skipped over backup Drew Locke to name DeVito as
the starter, but it didn't work out anyway.
After playing scout team safety,
Daniel Jones became a free agent on Monday and actually
just signed with the Minnesota Vikings.
So he's left New York behind.
Meanwhile, the Buccaneers outgained the Giants
but more than 200 yards and had Baker
Meyfield mocking DeVito's celebration that took the football world by storm last season.
I mean, you have your star rookie wide receiver Malik Neighbors not hiding his displeasure with the team.
This is Neighbors postgame after the loss to the Bucks.
I mean, obviously it ain't the quarterback.
Same outcome when we hired DJ at quarterback.
I mean, take a look.
Take a look.
It ain't the quarterback.
I don't know what it is.
Everybody knows better than me.
I don't know.
I don't know what it is.
I know I'm tired of losing.
And Neighbors came out yesterday and said he had to do it.
no regrets with his post-game comments.
And I'm sure many players on the team share that same sentiment.
The Giants are in a good spot to get a top five draft pick
and will be looking for their next franchise quarterback,
but are currently the worst team in the NFL.
I've seen teams suck before,
but they were to suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked.
Everything.
Suck, suck, suck.
And that's your round five.
I don't feel like that should have been a part of that.
That was wrong.
Well, there's more.
You got more?
Oh, no, I meant there's more drops of you.
There's always more drops of you.
Okay.
All right.
That's it.
That's the Rotten 5.
Now, how do you evaluate your performance?
Because the Rotten 5 returns back to Ross next week.
Hey, Ross can have it back.
It's okay.
I like doing it.
I had fun doing it these past two weeks, but I don't want to take this segment from them.
All right, very good.
Let's do this.
Let's play, believe it or not, next.
It is your chance to win.
We're going for T-shirts and shout-outs, right?
Yeah.
All right, very good.
7-13-21.
5790, 713, 212, 5790. If you want to play, believe it or not, it is up next.
The category is all things about food associated with Thanksgiving.
713-212-5-790.
I want to tell you about love volleyball.
