This is the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
And welcome to a Monday edition of the Matt Thomas show and Ross.
This is Sports Talk 790.
Just needed a ping pong ball?
Here's the problem.
What's the problem, Matthew?
I feel like there's more than one.
There may be eight of them.
A few weeks.
Okay.
I'm Jeremy Payne.
Asking for a friend.
Hey, I'm not giving up.
I mean, I can't.
I'm not going to want to.
Define giving up.
I'm not going to stop watching the team.
I would hope not.
I'm not going to stop.
I got a lot of post games coming up.
I got games.
You're getting a lot of Ross on the Rockets rep coming up in the next two months.
That's painful enough.
I mean, I said, oh, I'm sorry.
Looking forward to it.
You did say that out loud.
Sorry.
That's okay.
I'm not giving up.
I better never give you up.
That's the next song.
Hey, when the next song.
Hey, when the Rockets.
the Toronto Raptors tomorrow night.
We're going to come back with Never Going to Give You Up.
Never going to let you down.
We're going to get people back feeling better.
Okay.
I'm just going to say this roster was built,
and this whole season was about coming after the Oklahoma City Thunder,
and there was one little oversight, and it's the San Antonio Spurs.
It was the Rockets on the Thunder and the Spurs chase.
Now they're on the Thunder and the Spurs chase.
The Spurs are clearly better than the Houston Rockets.
145-120. I mean.
And I want to tell you, I want to peel the curtain back.
And Ross does not see me do this very often, but I think I've told you about this before.
When sometimes when things get got out of hand, I take my hand and I put it on my chin.
And I just...
When you're calling the game?
I think I can hear it.
I believe I can hear it.
I'll be honest with you.
I was doing it in the second half.
And I don't want to do it in the second half.
That's not what I'm paid for and enjoy doing it.
doing.
Wembeiyama 29, Fox 20,
Stefan Castle, the defending
rookie of the year in the NBA, 23.
I think we can hear it here.
Oh, here, put my computer.
And we are done here tonight in San Antonio.
Spurs, dominate the final three quarters.
And beat your rockets, 145 to 120.
Cheldon Johnson, 20.
Dylan Harper, the number two picking last year's draft 19.
Hell, even Luke Cornett was just fouling people, it didn't matter.
He threw down a big alley-oop, and that's what I was like, it's wraps.
Let's just go ahead and turn this off.
Luke Cornett is throwing down alley-hoops.
I have to finish the game sports rave.
You're going to just walk out.
I don't get the choice.
You're going to toss the headset down with Luke Cornett's throwing it down on?
I might have done a couple of us.
Like even in the fourth quarter when they brought the scrubs in Lindy,
Waters is knocking down threes.
Carter Bryan's hit the cup.
Who? Lindy Waters.
Lindy Waters.
He had Alabama Senator.
Lindy Waters the third.
Yeah, what the hell is that?
I'm sure the Wendy Waters second knows who he is.
And the first one does.
Kelton Johnson.
26 minutes, 20 points.
Colton Johnson's good.
He was wide open, way too much.
Everybody was wide open.
I mean, honestly, they made a bunch of,
I was talking about this on the Rockets Wrap.
on Sports Talk 790.
How were the calls, by the way?
I think we had one, maybe two.
They were making tough buckets, too.
Like, they're just good.
Like, Victor Wimbonyama's making fade away
off the window on the right side.
What is that?
Stefan Castle with
Tari Easton and Aminthamson
draped all over him.
Deer and Fox, a blur
in transition.
Even Vesel.
Normally good was terrible last night.
It didn't matter to them.
They have a good,
they have a bunch of good.
good players. They have a deep,
good roster, and they're better than the Rockets, and it hurts.
I don't want to talk about it. I'm not even going to admit it.
Okay. So I'm just going to just nod.
You don't have to say it. You're the radio voice. It's close to the vest.
I get it. It's too close. I understand. You're too close to the situation, like Jameson said.
It's, I get it. But I will say it. Spurs are better.
I mean, they just, they just beat you up and down the floor by 25 in their seven and a half games ahead of you.
Well, you've got Toronto and Denver coming up.
Two more playoff teams.
I choose to focus on the positive.
Okay.
You can win those games.
Every game.
Then you have a big,
pivotal,
pivotal five game homestand.
Two Lakers in a row.
Two Lakers games.
They're going to be favored in every single of those five games.
Are they going to win all five of them?
I don't know.
But they're going to be favored in all five of them.
Can I say, boys, Jonathan, you are the gut-feeling king as of late.
Can I say five out of seven would be okay?
Would that be good enough to hold on to three slash four in the West?
You know what?
I think so.
Five out of seven, maybe you can get rid of four.
I don't know.
I think anything less than five out of seven would be a major disappointment.
Timber Wolf's been playing some good balls.
All right, enough from you.
I mean, they lost to the magic.
They did.
In Denver and Aaron Gordon can't stay healthy.
But they, Timberwolves had won eight out of nine before that.
Okay, that's interesting.
The weather in San Antonio
Sucked the whole week
It was raining the whole weekend
A little bit of a chill in the air
Opening day
Spurr fans
Coming your way
Sports Talk 790
They walk around the arena
In this large chant
It'll be me Adam and Adam
On opening day
From Street Fest
I'll be listening
Oh you will?
Yeah
Where are you going to be
Is you getting late that day or something
No we go to Memphis
We're in flying from me
You'll be walking in Memphis
Yeah with my feet 10 feet off of Beal
Awesome
I couldn't find us
I was looking for San Antonio
songs to play
There's nothing
Everything is like 50 years old
Yeah it's all
No don't do it
We were rolling to the deep
And we could have had it all
All right
By the way
There was a lot of conjecture
Because we got out of San Antonio
Later than we wanted to
I was looking on Twitter
The 4 You
Which is just terrible on my part
They're like hey
Why are the Spurs
Why are the Spurs jumping the rocket
Well there's a reason why
I mean Victor Wembe Gama
Can change
teams. If the Rockets would have gotten Victor, they would have put San Antonio in the pasture.
And I love Adam Clinton like a brother. And he's going to get hurt because 7 foot four guys that are less than 260 pounds.
Well, first of all, anybody that 7 foot four is going to get hurt. It's just the reality. There's too much history behind it.
But when he's playing, he kicks your ass. He's playing right now. He can talk about his legs breaking down when he's 30. He's 22 or whatever right now. And he's playing at a, and he's going to get MVP votes.
He is. He's not going to win it, but he's going to get MVP.
He's not going to win it.
Although, is he going to play enough games?
I think so.
You don't only play 29 minutes a game.
He doesn't even play a full 30.
He blocks three shots a game.
He had four yesterday.
The spurs are aware as we are, the leg's possibility of breaking down.
Oh, no, they pull him.
You notice a substitutional patterns.
He only plays in like a little four and five-minute stretches.
Yes.
I mean, they have the sports science knows these things.
And you can also do, that's also the dangerous thing.
It's not only him, it's the entire team.
they dose the minutes.
And they're still 47 and 17.
And they go to playoffs,
I wonder if they're going to take the governors off,
everyone, including Victor Wimbunyama.
I would imagine they will
because they want to win a championship.
There's no reason they should be scared of the thunder.
Why are they not thinking championship this year?
They're a mid-level three-point shooting team.
They shot 52% from three yesterday.
Oh, is that true?
Because everybody I looked at is like 37 plus.
They were at 35 going to the game yesterday.
Okay.
But they're doing volume.
Wimby's around 35, but I thought Castle and Fox and...
Oh, last night, if you're watching, you saw it last night.
They shot 52% last night, so...
How's your weekend?
It's great.
It's great.
Cam Smith had a home run yesterday.
This would be like, I don't know.
I got to ask Jonathan if this ever happened to him or something like that.
Like, you're in high school and you're running track because you're like a sophomore,
and there's some kid that you're like way faster than.
But then, like, after the summer, he comes back and he's a junior,
and then he's just faster than you or something like that.
dad. That was me. You were the kid. Oh, you were the guy. You were the kid. Okay. It's like somebody, or like you're the
basketball team and some kids like six foot two and the next summer he's six, six and he's dunking on you.
That's what it feels like. Like we've been better than you or we've been growing and we've been
rebuilding and then all of a sudden you just got passed up. I think it's the first time in what six
years of spurs are in the playoffs, something like that? We're getting Jonathan Allen.
Jonathan Allen was doing that to people in high school and now the spurs are doing it to the
Rockets.
So I need, you always
come to me for advice on things. I'm coming to you for
advice. Okay. How we'll go fix this?
Yeah, well, you got to focus
on yourself, Matt. Oh, damn it.
I hate you about you want us to look at something the eye.
Don't look to the spurs.
Focus on not turning the ball over as much.
Focus on your spacing. Focus on not getting
the bad turnovers. Even though the turnovers weren't
bad last night, which is like, it was my, that's my
go-to excuse in the post game. Yes, not turning the ball over.
It's like, well,
they kind of just got smoked.
They said line it up and they got smoked.
That's what happened last night.
It wasn't a bunch of turnovers.
I mean, they did shoot poorly from three
and the Spurs shot better,
but they're just a man for man,
they're better than you.
That's the problem.
So when, and I guess I'm going to have to say this at the end of the year,
when can I go,
look,
I'm not going to regret the Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks for Kevin Durant
entry. That's not, that's not, that's not, never going to happen on my watch because Kevin's been, Kevin has been the go-to score that you absolutely must have had to take the next step.
Although Jalen Green had a good night for the sons. Yeah. He's been terrible all season though. Yeah. He's hadn't played very much, actually.
But do we, do we just put in a nutshell that Fred and then the later injury to Stephen has just, it's destroyed the team in terms of really do want to be in a top two spot? I mean, it is,
for Fred, and there was a lot of Fred hate last year.
Oh my God.
Too much.
Don't get me started on Rocket.
Too many freaking Simp Rocket fans out there.
And thank God I've muted most of them.
But the reality is, Fred's 30.
Fred can hit the three.
Fred runs things, but last night,
that wasn't about Fred not being on the floor.
Because Fred's not going to try to,
it's not going to dee up Wemba Nama anymore than Reed Shepard did last night.
that was a matchup last
that was way too much
well
it happens
I think it's more about the Spurs growth
the Spurs being ahead of schedule
I wanted to say it not coming across
is come on it's more about the Spurs being ahead
of schedule even with Fred Van Vleck I actually put
that on my poll on my Twitter account last night
and of course recency bias they just got smoked by the Spurs
so would the Rockets be better than the Spurs
with a healthy Fred Van Fleet and Stephen Adams it's
a 58% no
42% yes. The reality is this, and it's very painful to say, the Spurs got a generational player.
They got last year's rookie of the year who's taking the next step and was taken after Reed Shepard.
That's a fact. It's a fact. And by way, Reed is playing well. Reed is playing. I like Reed a lot.
Reed is playing to the level that the Rockets wanted him to be. Now, defensively still working on it, but it's still getting better.
He's getting better all over the place. Every single night, Reed is showing signs of,
this was a good selection.
And you can have good selections.
Multiple teams can be very proud of their top five picks.
Yes.
But it wasn't even a question of rebounding yesterday.
It wasn't, I mean, like, Stephen not being out there doesn't necessarily defend things differently.
It keeps possessions alive, maybe a little bit more.
You know, Dorian Finney had a decent game offensively, but that has been a huge part of the team.
They really wanted him to come through and be that guy like he had been through much his NBA career.
And that hasn't happened.
it's some
Tarry has really struggled as a
really struggled as of like...
You're not 20...
Tari's been bad.
You're not 25 points worse than the Spurs.
They shot pretty hot from three and you're kind of cold.
But I mean,
even if you leveled that playing field,
you're not good enough.
Ross has to tell the truth today.
You don't respond to my text,
but I'm assuming that you got it.
Oh, you sent it like it was like midnight.
That's because I was still sitting on the plane and it's nothing else to do.
Oh, that's funny.
I'll handle it or not today.
Here, let me give it a thumbs up right now.
No, I don't want it right now.
I hear a thumbs up.
916.
It's 1016.
That's within 12 hours.
Yeah, 1016.
That was throwing me off last night.
I'm going to say it a bunch of times you've already.
It's fine.
You are the Ron Burgundy of this show.
713-212-5-790.
Go off yourself, sports RV.
7-1-3-212-5-7-90.
10-21-on-1 on 7-90.
And again, if I get it wrong, it's because they're an hour behind here.
Spring forward, Matthew.
Can we just leave it this way?
Spring forward to the fourth seed.
Can we leave it right here?
I don't care.
Just let me know what to do.
It's just something to complain about that we can't control.
I thought Congress was supposed to fix this.
I don't even know what's going on.
It doesn't matter.
There are people who say it does still help and people who say it doesn't.
I don't know who's right.
I don't care.
Just tell me what time it is and then I'll just go from there.
I'm going to give you a strong stance because I'm full of strong takes.
Yes.
Give me the strong take.
My strongest take is, let's keep it right where it is.
Okay.
Forget about those kids at 5 o'clock in the morning and can't go outside and see where they're going to catch the bus.
Let them worry about the little brats.
Wow.
I was a regular kid.
People like to be able to see it at 7.30 at night.
You know back, there was a time in my life where my bedtime was 8.30 and it was still light outside.
I don't remember I really ever having a bedtime.
I think I just naturally took myself, put myself to sleep.
You were like a free-range Thomas.
I mean, yeah, I mean, it was a good late-night game on or something I'd watch.
That was pre-H-S-E.
You know, all I got to, what, 20 vision games.
All right.
Texans are making some offensive line moves.
They're just bringing everybody back.
Jehow!
Let's cause and discuss, Brady.
We're back on a big three-year contract.
Oh, hell no.
It's Monday.
Are you okay?
I'm asleep deprived.
I just want to discuss and discuss with you.
Let's get some defensive lines.
Breakdown. Let's call in. Let's call in with your favorite free agents.
Are you having a stroke? Yes. I'm mad.
We can cuss and discuss it.
Eddinger coming back is a big news. It's good news.
It's a mere offensive line.
Nikki C. Yitty. Get you out of here. Nicky C.
I'm going WFA. I have a little worried about you.
Do you have double coffee this morning?
I'm eating a donut now, which probably isn't the best thing.
Ed Ingram coming back is a big deal.
Ed Ingram's.
Yes.
And who told you when Titus Howard got shipped off?
That probably means Ed Ingram was coming back.
Yeah, it would be a waxler.
You know what?
I'm the Texans Insider.
No, no.
I told you last week that Andrew was coming back because Titus Howard got shipped off.
I'm the Texans insider now.
No, no, no, no.
Yes.
I'm the one that told you that Joe makes a guy got his food shot off when he shot himself in the foot.
Yeah.
Well, how's, it's come.
Nothing about that has come out.
You don't know that yet?
He's been released already.
That story would have come out, I think.
I'm collecting my coffee very soon on this.
You need to.
Because I'm tired to own you money in bets.
Well, I paid off the habachi, so.
It's delicious.
You're lucky.
And you took home all the extra fried rice.
No, I, no extra.
I just didn't eat my share.
No, he gave you the extra fried rice.
I saw it.
Don't try to play slick.
And then you took it home.
Easy.
Easy.
Easy money.
Easy.
Good morning to you.
Why do you take all the rice?
He earned it, he earned it.
I earned the rice. I live for rice, easy.
Sir, I was, by the way, I had four TVs at home, and I was listening to the broadcast last night.
By the way, good call.
I tried to be as positive as possible with the Rockets of getting their bank.
What I didn't like it, and I couldn't get mad at them,
because you could hear the chant behind him saying,
and we are Texas.
And I was going to say, we got two champions.
We're like, oh, no, there's five there in San Antonio.
Yeah.
I think they're just, they're just stacked.
I mean, I think the last time the guy Champaign killed us, too.
What do of the Rockers need to do to get better and I'll hang up a listen to them?
Thank you, easy for the phone call.
I mean, we're kind of too late in the season.
There's no adjustments.
There's, I don't think there's any veteran free agent pickups going to all of a sudden change the tenor of the team.
Chris Paul coming out of retirement's not going to have.
help. I know some people believe that, but that's not going to help.
No, I mean, honestly, it was
bald movement yesterday by
San Antonio. They got a
two-thirds of their baskets which came off of assist.
They made tough shots.
They also left Kelden Johnson. I mean,
to me, it was more about spacing. Kelden Johnson,
how many times did he have a contested shot? Very
few times. And I'm not trying to say that Kelvin was the one thing.
And then Victor Women, Yama, folks,
he's
he's unguarable.
I mean,
He's actually, he does you more of good when he's outside of 1920 feet
because you can at least watch him clank a few threes.
But he was reverse dunking on you.
Can I say that it actually felt like he didn't even have that good of a game?
He had 29 points, eight rebounds, four blocks, and an assist.
And it felt like that was just, it felt like he didn't impact the game as much as he could have or should have.
He didn't play it with the, how did he play the fourth quarter of anything else?
I can pull it up.
29 point something something minutes.
And he did a lot of his damage at the free throw line, but he was getting fouled.
Now, the one thing I don't think is
he's going to have to bulk up a little bit because
every time Rossi, he gets touched, he hits the court, and that's not going to
be good for him.
Yeah, but how much can he bulk up? I don't know.
He's going to fill in it somewhat, but you don't know how much he can bulk up.
It's going to be very interesting to watch his career develop as the years ago,
long. As of right now, he's still one of the best, he's one of the, five,
very much, very at least ten, arguably one of the five best players in basketball right now.
Yeah, he was nine of ten at the line, 29 points. Now, I'll give Alpi credit last night. So he
did go at him a few times defensively, which you have to do. Yeah, he got in his kitchen.
Absolutely got to get to him. Yes. Yeah, Alpy went out of a couple times. It wasn't enough.
It was just hard. They didn't do a whole lot of the Min Thompson thing with the five on one.
I didn't do that hardly ever.
I didn't think they did it at all.
I wonder if they're doing that just to save it for the playoffs.
Or if they're just mixing it up.
I'm not sure.
But their transition is good.
They run the floor well.
They space.
They hit threes internet.
I mean, everybody is always, even though he blocked four shots,
he affected a handful of others.
You're always aware of where he is.
And poor Tari going up for a nice easy layup and boom,
out of nowhere, he just swats.
Now as he swatted, he violently swats it to like three rows behind the bench.
That was a little message sending right there.
He had a little, you know what, and vinegar in that moment.
Salt and vinegar?
Yeah.
Okay.
I like it.
Apple cider.
They're good.
I mean, Luke Corvette's good off the bench.
Kelton Johnson.
Dylan Harper.
Oh, I don't know.
They, they're, hmm.
Don't want to overreact.
I'm going to shut up.
it's okay
but last
I mean I can see people overreacting
you got you got beat up on national TV
and everybody in their mother
was a Twitter oh why is Reggie Miller
just loving on Wemby well there's a reason
because Wembe's a dynamic NBA basketball player
there's a reason why he must watch TV
I want to be honest
with you Matt I don't always go to the arena for
pre and post oh no
you're that guy
when the spurs are in town I have to go
all right
that feels fair
he's the
I know
It hurts us because we're in Houston and it's in San Antonio.
He's the most...
He's the most...
He's the most...
He's the most...
If he was doing this for the Sacramento Kings,
he'd be like, okay, whatever.
I wouldn't care.
It hurts more because he's doing for the Spurs,
but I have to be real and I have to be honest.
He's the most interesting show in the NBA.
Is he the greatest show?
Not in the moment.
No, he's more interesting show.
He's more interesting to watch the Nikola Okic is.
It's like the circus comes to town.
I want to see Victor Wimbunyama.
Yeah.
I know.
We're talking about something else.
Yes.
Let's talk about Ed Ingram.
Coming back.
Ed Ingram.
Let's Cousdiscus him.
Ed Ingram.
Let's go.
Oriente Ersary is going to get better.
Trent Brown is back.
Ed Ingram is back.
You're going to draft a couple of guys.
Maybe you sign one more.
And this offensive line is getting rebuilt.
David Montgomery is running for six yards on first down.
And I know that doesn't sound great and super dynamic.
But it's good for the Texans.
And C.J. Shroud is staying on schedule.
And guys are getting paid.
And the Texans are going to be better next year.
Let's go.
Full breakdown.
And the Astros lost in spring training again yesterday.
How many runs they score?
No, it's not discussing.
To tell the truth coming up.
Oh, no, you're not going to do it.
11.30.
Jonathan, Ross is devious on to tell the truth sometimes.
I'm nervous.
Me too.
1030 on Sports Talk 790.
7.13-212-5-790.
All right, real quick for you back on the rocket chatter,
I'm going to break things up a little bit because we're here four hours.
Be honest.
Because I'm going to be honest with you.
I mean, I normally lie.
One to ten, what has been your interest level of WBC games?
The games?
Three?
I'm lower.
I know you're lower.
You hate the WBC.
But, I mean, I get around patriotic things.
I mean, I watch the Olympics occasionally.
But I...
Either because I'm traveling, because maybe I'm traveling,
maybe I should take myself out of this conversation,
but it's been on in my room, a hotel,
it's been on at home, it's going on tonight.
There was a huge Friday night in Houston.
We had the Rockets playing.
We had WBC.
We had LISO.
I mean, there was a lot of things going on.
I don't know.
I don't know why I'm not gravitating your tour because I do like baseball.
Hmm.
I don't know.
But you know what?
I was thinking about this.
I also don't gravitate towards Olympic baseball either.
I don't know if I don't, if it's just putting USA across the chest does it for me in
baseball. You've been trash talking it for so long.
I'm not trash talking. I've been real.
Okay. People appreciate the realism that I bring to the show.
I would say my interest level
is higher than the amount I've been watching the games.
I honestly, I don't even know, what are they on MLB Network?
No, they've been on Fox. No, Fox, FS1?
Yeah. Sure, why not? I haven't just been finding the games.
But I've been monitoring. I've been seeing a bunch of the highlights.
I follow the WBC account. I'm going to unfollow it
once WBC is over. I'm sure they don't appreciate that.
I follow the WBC account. I thought some of the highlights have been
cool. The crowds have been good.
It's been interesting to me. Like that 17
year old kid from Brazil striking out
Aaron, not striking out, getting a double play from
Aaron Judge with a bases loaded.
That's cool. I think it's very interesting.
My interest level is higher than more than
I've been watching the games, I would say. See, it's funny
because I was more upset about Christian Walker
grounding in a double play with a bases loaded in
Florida over the weekend than I was by the WBC.
I didn't even know that Christian Walker
did that, but that doesn't sound surprising.
Oh, we've got to get that fixed.
To tell the truth.
Oh man, you are just teasing the hell out of it.
I don't think I want to hear your truth.
We'll see.
Because all you've been doing is spitting out truth so far today.
I'm sorry.
I mean, I just, I have to speak from my heart, Matt.
Today is day one of spring break for some people.
Then my daughters is next week.
There ain't nobody on the streets today.
You're not on the streets.
I was on the streets.
I was on the streets.
I didn't I send you the Friday.
Just get that apology ready to go.
No.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Get your Friday apology, Matt.
First of all, nobody had spring break last week.
You don't have spring break the first week of March.
I'm just, look.
Now, look, there were people that were to see Lizzo.
There were people to see WBC.
If those two events weren't there, we'd be a normal city.
I sent you the KPRC local two stories.
They don't know what the hell they're talking about.
They said two million, I mean, who am I going to trust?
Matt Thomas or the news?
There are not two more million people in this town.
They said two million people are coming.
I've seen a lot of traffic.
For Lizzo.
And you know what?
They always do.
I saw something.
else last night too. Here we go. I'm sending it to you guys. There was another tweet.
That's all over it, Matt. You might have to
apologize on Friday. It says, can someone explain to me how
Houston has become a travel destination for spring breakers? There's a billion people out there.
Who said? Oh, so Rando said that? Somebody on Twitter.
No, no, no, no, no, no. I'm sorry, Matt. No, no. I'm hearing it from like everyone.
It's done like five Instagram accounts. Oh, KPRC. Oh, KPRC.
KPRC, local.
Journalism.
Am I going to trust KPRC local 2 or Matt Thomas?
I'm going to trust the KPRC.
I'm going to trust the streets and I'm sorry.
You're not on any streets.
I'm on the streets.
You came from the backwoods of Kingwood, Matt.
No, I was on the backwoods of Kingwood.
We're not trusting you.
I was on 610 all day long.
Yeah, there wasn't 600,000 people in the woods over there for sure.
Here's what we're going to do, Jonathan.
Oh, please.
I want you to call five travel agencies across the country.
I want you to call somebody in Kansas City.
I want you to call somebody in Atlanta.
You call them.
No, because I'm right.
No, you're Mr. Texas, right? Yeah, yeah. I'm calling Jonathan Wright right now. I'm sorry. No chance. I'm being completely unbiased. Yeah, you were, you're completely biased. I told you I was initially on your side. But I'm seeing all these people talking about how Houston is getting flooded with people with spring break. And it's just, it's a different generation, man. Jonathan, call a travel agency in Denver and say, how many people have you sent into Houston for spring break? You know what? I think we're supposed to go to the rodeo on the 16th. You know what? I'm going to do boots on the ground journalist.
them.
Oh, man,
where you're all from?
Ask everybody where they're from.
Man, I think you're...
By the way, I think you're losing.
But the problem is it gets to the rodeo.
Everybody comes out of the country.
I don't know.
There was an argument between...
This broke out when I was off for the flu, right?
That Jonathan said 500,000 people
were coming for spring break.
And I'm going to be honest.
I thought that sounded crazy.
It is crazy.
Not true.
But then KPRC says 2 million.
If Jonathan only...
Oh, okay, so Jonathan is four times off the number?
No, that's what I'm saying.
He only needs them to be a quarter right.
For him to be right, you only need KPRC Local 2's $2 million to be $500,000.
You are coming to Houston for the rodeo.
That's causing me...
You know what?
I think this needs.
What?
Don't even do it.
We got calls to get to.
We'll eventually get to it.
I can't go do it now.
Do it.
And Instapol?
Go ahead.
Are 2 million people in Houston?
No, no, no, no. He said 500,000.
Our 500,000 coming for spring break, not for the rodeo.
Spring break.
People out in Houston.
500,000 people said, hey, forget going to the beach, forget going to the mountains, forget going on a spring training trip, or forget going to New England this time of year.
It's the younger generation.
The kids love Houston.
They come from Atlanta.
We've had people call in, say they're coming from all over town.
Drake made it popular.
Houston's a destination, Matt.
It is not a vacation destination.
I'm sorry. It's not a spring break.
It's not a vacation. It's to get lit.
It's a party.
You can get lit in Dallas, too.
21, 22, 570.
I don't know-dalous Dallas.
We weren't bragging about all the lit people in Dallas.
713-212-5-7-90.
So false.
We can't get people to call in here.
Maybe you should have done this next hour.
Yeah.
When's the show on until today?
Two o'clock.
They're making a full four.
arms today.
Cass says Matt is right.
I drive the streets of this town all day, every day for work.
The roads are dead.
Yeah, they're not on the roads.
They didn't come to here to drive down rich.
500,000 people in the clubs.
Every club is full.
Every hotel is full.
But like you said, this is the start of the spring break.
No, no, you were saying two weeks ago, I had 500,000 people were there.
I know.
Now you're moving the goalpost.
You're moving the goalpost.
He said wait until spring break, I guess is what he said.
I said.
Wait two weeks in road.
You remember, it's okay. This week is fine. We started right now.
Gary is Houston a spring break destination?
No. No, no. That's one no. Okay, that's one no.
Ryan is Houston a spring break destination?
Yes, it is.
It's one to one.
713, 212-5-790.
Gio is
Houston is spring break destination
Matt we wouldn't expect you to understand man
You're a little green when it comes to this kind of stuff
But yes they are they are flocking
They're not flocking
No this turn this off
This is ridiculous
No again
Alright you know what
I'm calling
We're going to call a Minneapolis travel agency right now
What?
Yeah
If it's a travel destination
Where do you put Houston?
Call Atlanta
I'll call Atlanta
Oh yeah
You think they're going to
leave the strip clubs for the clubs of Houston?
No, you're kidding.
No chance.
Y'all are high. I love Houston,
but come on. We're not at spring break destination.
Y'all tweet at SportsMT.
Yes, tweet them at SportsMT.
Don't treat me for anything.
Gio says they're flocking.
You don't know anything.
Okay. Oof. All right, let's take a break.
Gio. Love you.
Biscuit and Roger Hank tight, 944 on
Sports Talk 790. 713.
Hey, everybody, where are we going to go?
Let's go to Orlando. Yeah, that's fine.
No, let's go to California.
No, let's go to the wine can.
No, let's go to Houston.
Let's go to Houston because the club scene is good.
Okay.
Guess where Ramon Robles of the Michael Barris show is?
He's in Nashville and New Orleans.
I talked to him today.
Those aren't traditional spring break destinations.
Oh, Nashville?
Are you kidding me?
People are flucking to Nashville.
Grand Ole Opry, Adelie World, New Orleans, New Orleans.
Okay.
Yeah, so.
Top three spring break destinations.
I think if Houston.
Nashville, New Orleans.
Orleans, Houston. I think if Nashville and New Orleans can be up there, Houston can be up there.
No chance. San Antonio probably has more people there than Houston does. Dirty-ass river.
It is. 7-1-3-212-5-790.
Google just announced the top 10 U.S. destinations for spring break, 2026.
Who's Google? When do they announce?
Number 10, Vail, Colorado. Number nine, Tampa, Florida, number eight, five.
Fort Myers, Florida. Number seven, Santa Ana, California. Number six, Punta Gorda, Florida.
Number five, Panama City, Florida. Number four, Long Beach, California, which you know very well.
Okay. Number three, Sarasota, number two, Ashle North Carolina, number one, Hilo, Hawaii.
Number one 14, Houston, Texas. See, none of, nobody's going to, would you say in Florida?
There's more people coming to Houston that are going to,
Punta Conna or whatever you said. Punta Gorda. Punta Gorda.
It's a relaxed waterfront on the Gulf Coast. Nobody knows where, nobody's heard of Punta Gorda.
And no 20-year-old is paying for that. That's not 50 enough.
Okay, well, then you need to know that there are other people besides 20-year-olds that are spring-breaking.
Yeah, but I mean, the young kids are mostly the one spring-breaking.
Ramon Robles is a friend of the show and he's in our age group.
He is spring-breaking with his kids.
I understand that.
But I think spring break is more of a young person thing than an older person thing.
I don't disagree.
Well, it's what you have kids.
Yeah.
You're spring-breaking.
People take off when their kids are off.
Right, but when you're in college, you're spring-breaking, not with your parents.
And they're not going, hey, let's forget about going to the beach in Pensacola.
go to Houston. I think they are. No, they're not.
The economic times are tough for the youngans too.
All right. Tomorrow and I'll be downtown in the downtown streets. I'll see how many
youngans are from out of town. The wages are stagnant. That's your fault.
My fault. Let's figure it up. Let's talk to, oh boy, let's go to Biscuit on 7 on a Hill
Biscuit.
Matt, brother Matt, man, let me bring you up to what JK is talking about. Let's
Let's narrowly down to the African-American swing breakers.
And I guarantee you, listen, Ross, I had a pipe burst in my house,
and we were out of our house for three months going back in the insurance,
and we were at a hotel downtown, right, right across from Diking Park.
It surprised me.
How many people from Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee, Philadelphia,
man, they're flocking to Houston, man.
And they can't know.
There's so many buffet, I mean, brunch places and day places that these youngsters can go to.
That's where the number's coming from.
Now, you name all some places they, too many brothers and sisters can afford to go to.
But I'm just, and most people.
But you say Houston, the affordability is there.
And if you want it to beat, you can, right?
We ain't that far from Galveston.
So I'm telling you, Matt, it may not be $500,000 and it may not be due to spring break,
but it's a lot of people coming to Houston for some.
And it surprised me.
It's a lot of people vacation in Houston.
This is a regional place, and thank you for the phone call.
There are people that live within four, six hours here that absolutely would come to Houston.
I'm not saying you don't ever come to Houston.
Plus, again, the rodeo brings in millions and millions of people.
You have lots of sporting events.
at the WBC. We're going to have a huge push for when the World Cup gets here.
I'm not saying there's not stuff to do here.
But there is not a Rando family of four, or for that matter,
a Randall 23-year-old living in Kansas City, Missouri, going, man, we got to get out of this, KC.
Hell, let's go somewhere else.
Where do you want to go?
Houston, Texas sounds great.
It's just not happening.
Man, I met people at random SFA parties that were traveling three hours from Louisiana and
Houston.
You're making my point.
But, yeah.
If you're in Nackettish, Louisiana, what the hell are you going to do?
Spring or spring break in Nackish?
Oh, I don't know.
So people come to Houston.
But not 500,000 people.
He's not saying where they came from.
They're not 500,000, 30-year-old people and younger going, I'm going to spend a week in Houston, Texas.
By the way, if you can check out the hotel rates in this town, we ain't cheap.
Food ain't cheap.
Where did you go for breakfast yesterday?
Did you do a $75 breakfast?
Did you not?
You get seven people when you split an Airbnb?
Oh, my God.
Now we're just coming with excuses.
A lot of Airbnb.
excuses. I'm just telling you, Matt.
Look, I am wrong about
some things. I ain't wrong about this.
I don't know. Biskieger said you're wrong.
Well, I mean, if you want to go
by demographics, you want to go by proximity
to where Houston is, like, if I was going to school
in Lake Charles or I was going to school in
Lufkin or anyways, there's a lot
of colleges around, exactly.
But those college kids, they ain't paying for the
Airbnb. When did Houston Airbnb
has become discount?
They don't. Unless you put like
19 people in a room and then that becomes an orgy.
Which may be that spring break.
What?
But you can have an orgy in any city.
Back on the phones we go.
You know this help? This help today because
we avoid the
nastiness that wasn't San Antonio.
We have to talk about the rockets. This is better.
Roger, 790. Good morning.
Hey, good morning, Matt.
So, yeah, you know what?
Houston does have good spots. And we have just as much
alligator and fessive waters in Florida.
Come on, man. We're good here.
Love Galveston.
You love Galveston.
I love Galveston.
You know what?
Mr. Texas loves Galveston.
The rest of these guys I work with tolerated, I live for Galveston.
I would bring, I would spring breaking Galvest.
Matter of fact, I'm leaving 11 o'clock.
Yeah, I love me some Galvest.
Mr.
Not Mr. Texas.
You can't find that food of Galvest.
Yeah.
I am Mr. Galvest and Mr.
I hate on Houston.
Why would Mr. Texas be hating on Houston and saying it's not a destination?
I'm just being a realist.
I'm being a realist too.
All right.
That's right.
If you don't stand for something, you fall for anything.
Tell him who you are.
Anyway.
Anyway, so, yeah, I think the rocket's got a three-part problem here, buddy.
So one of them is, remember last one of them when Thompson had that beautiful playoff run?
And after the Golden State Series, like, man, if this guy ever developed some kind of jump shot, he'd be awesome.
Well, that didn't happen.
So there's definitely a development problem going home with my rockets.
there's an injury bug
that you know
you can't you can't
foresee that stuff
and then you got the spurs
that just hit on everything that they
pick and that's a
great mix and I just don't want it to turn up into
the early 2000 where it was just
miserable 10 years
of plus of failure
and I just hope we can stop
and now you don't come out and say this
but he knows
he knows what his team is we know what his team is we know what
this team is right now.
So, you know, Alpe
needs to develop a jump shot too.
And just, you know, I don't know what
the remedy is, but
it's ugly. I don't like it.
We don't need an elongated,
you know, historic
San Antonio run out of this.
I just, you need to find out some way to
combat this. And I don't have
any answers, but who does?
And that's it, Nash.
All right. Thank you for the phone call.
Appreciate it. I don't know what I got out of that, but it was
great to hear Roger's voice.
Is he allowed to be a prize so horror coming up at 1.30 today?
I guess so.
I got to work on, believe it or not.
130?
Oh, yeah, you do.
150.
Oh, yeah.
When is, uh, okay.
11.30, you got, you got 30 minutes.
I've got, I've got three.
You already got your takes down, don't you?
I got, well, I got four, but I, you know, this one's provisional.
Okay.
I'm not to make them good.
You, as compared to, they're not good?
For myself.
Oh, I'm not saying yours aren't good.
Oh, okay.
I thought I was not attacking.
No, I'm not attacking you, Matt.
Okay.
I want to make them mine good for me.
All right.
And sometimes maybe they won't be.
We'll find out.
Mack, David, and Keith, Hank Todd will get to the three of you.
Now we have org.
Look what you did.
Now we have orgy questions.
By the way, I put up a poll on my Twitter account.
Are as many as 500,000 people spring breaking in Houston over the next few weeks.
More, less.
Man of the people, Ross.
I'm just asking.
I'm just asking.
I'm an objective observer here.
How does anybody know the answer to that?
I don't even know the answer to that.
I don't know.
Local 2 says 2 million.
Oh, Local 2 said 2 million.
They must have been hanging out of Hobby Airport yesterday.
You can answer my poll.
They're all trying to leave.
Early results, 58% less.
I did not even vote yet.
10 o'clock.
Go vote, John.
No, 11 o'clock.
Damn it, this clock has screwed me up.
I'm all flustered.
I'll try to read this one.
What on that, that man.
713, 212.
5.790. 713. 212.5.790. If you want to visit with us through Twitter, you may do that as well.
And Instagram, at SportsMT and at SportsRV. If you are new to the Houston area this week, welcome to our great city.
This is the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
On Sports Talk 790, we've got to tell the truth coming up in a half an hour from now.
We have Paul Scheme's pitching today for Team USA at Diken Park.
USA
USA
All right
We have
The Astros
playing tonight
against the Cardinals
yesterday during the day
but we're taped delaying it
because you know
We don't want to
There you go
We have the Texans
Resigning
Ed Ingram
To a multi-year contract
Woo!
Ed Ingram's back
man
Let's go into a big old
run down
Texans offensive line
Is there anybody out there
in the free
Do you want to get
Let us know
You're
stroking out again
I know
Ed Ingram
was
great for the Texans.
He's only 27 years old.
You sign him to a three-year deal.
He's a great signing for the Uson Texans.
Yeah. I'm happy he's here.
Trent Brown, I like.
32 years old, but he played pretty
well. He's an insurance
policy. Hopefully you're going to get a couple of guys
in the draft and they're going to work out.
If not, Trent Brown, you can live with.
That's what CJ
wants to hear in the most important year of his career.
I can live with this guy. Yeah.
You know the reality is, though. You're not going to have five.
Pro bowlers on the offensive line.
They're just not.
I agree.
They've already whiffed too much.
Kenyon Green says, hello.
Blake Fisher, what's up?
They've done too much whiffing on the offensive line
to have the great offensive line
unless they get literally two hits
coming up in this season and
on Tiersy makes a big leap.
And by the way, Dalton Schultz over the weekend
also getting some big money too.
This is great.
Why did you roll your eyes to that?
I mean, he's just a tight end.
He was your RBT, he was your running wide receiver two last year.
I mean, he came on.
I just don't.
There's not opposing defensive coordinators.
I'm like, oh my God, God.
Dalton Schultz, what are we going to do?
I like Dalton Schultz.
But other than Nico Collins, what is the most dynamic element of your offense?
Year 2 of Jaden Higgins.
Yeah, okay.
Sure.
Jalen Noel on a reverse sweep.
So right now, you're starting offensive line,
because we are the best offensive line breakdowner in the market.
good place. Yes, we are.
Arionte Urstery at left tackle.
Jared Patterson at left guard.
Jake Andrews at the center.
Need an upgrade.
Badly. Ed Ingram at right guard.
Okay. Trent Brown at right tackle.
Okay. Hopefully, Blake Fisher can make a third year leap.
It can happen for offensive linemen.
Yeah, that's not impossible.
I mean, he did, well, he was the sixth lineman, right?
Yeah, he was a bad, yeah.
When you only need five and you got a six.
Swing tackle.
The swing, uh, good push guy.
Yeah. He's like a Victor Caratini of the offensive line.
I was going to say Mariso Dubon.
You might be more right.
Rock has lost last night, and we're done with that.
Yeah, we talked about it a lot in the first hour.
We'll do a little bit during the news at noon coming up.
Why don't we want to push that on that agenda along?
That's not great, and it doesn't feel like it's changing anytime soon.
But still 20 games left to go in the season.
Yes. Time to improve.
And the good news is the Rockets only have seven road games left.
That is good.
You end on a three-game home stand.
Yep.
And you got a big five-gamer next week.
Big five gamer.
After a lot of yo-yoing, Matt, you're okay with the traveling?
You're doing okay?
Because they're home on Friday.
Then they're on the road.
And then now you're back home.
And then you go to Denver.
For a back-to-back, which sucks.
For a back-to-back.
And then you come home for five.
Yes.
My philosophy is not that anybody cares,
but mine is if you go on the road, go on the road for more than one game.
knockout two or three.
That's what I think.
Yeah, get a road trip going.
Get a roadie.
Like going to San Antonio yesterday was just useless, just for one game.
Sorry, Matt.
Yeah.
More sorry about watching Victor Weniamma do his thing.
Let's go to Keith on 790.
Keith, good morning to you.
Hey, good morning.
How are y'all doing?
Good.
Doing great.
Hey, so Thursday, Matt,
the Rock has played on Prime.
Correct?
On Thursday?
No, they don't play on.
Thursday. No, they, on Thursday, last Thursday?
Oh, last Thursday. They did, yes, against the Warriors.
Against Golden State, yes, they did.
Yeah, so I don't
understand what happened because we was trying
to listen to your broadcast
on the radio,
and it just kept saying,
eye heart, eye heart, eye heart, and
you never came on. Where were you?
Did you not broadcast Thursday?
I did. You must listen to the radio.
If you're in Houston, you must listen to 790.
And I thought the rocket
It wasn't on KTRH.
No, you should be able to hear it on the stream
unless you're out of our
listening sphere, whatever they call it, geo-fence.
Yeah, there's a geo-fence around where your phone is,
where the geo-fence thinks where your phone is.
Yeah, were you in Putte Gorda?
No, I was right at home, right here in Houston.
I said, I let's play Force Talk 790.
They kept playing the same.
Was that a KTRH game, by the way?
I don't think so.
Sometimes, maybe it was on KTRH,
but in which case you do have to listen.
on the radio, as Matt was saying.
If sometimes the app will put you like in New York, it used to do that.
I don't think it does that anymore, but just make sure you check your location on the
app, make sure you're in Houston, and then you should be able to listen to when we're on
790.
When it's 740, we do not stream.
You have to listen to the radio, 7.40 a.m.
The easiest thing to do is listen to one of our radio stations.
That's easiest thing.
I can't explain it because I was right at my home and I live right here in Houston,
and it kept saying the same thing over and over again.
Yeah, check location.
What about, I know that you said before you, I was talking about,
the rockets can still pick up somebody with an expiring contract.
Somebody who's been bought out.
I don't even know who's available.
No, I mean, I think that time has sailed.
It just has.
That's over?
I mean, the trade deadline was like almost a month ago.
I mean, they would have done something by now, you would have thought.
Oh, we still got 20 games left, right?
So they do it.
I mean, is it over?
at the end of the season or is it?
No, well, actually, you know what?
You don't you have to have somebody, those are two ways.
You can sign somebody late.
You can't.
I think it'll be on the playoff roster.
Have you heard them talking about trying to get somebody or what?
No, I have not.
Well, after last night's beat down, I can't see them beating San Antonio, man.
I don't know.
I don't know. I love the Rockets, but they look like crap against San Antonio.
I was there for it, my man.
Thank you, Keith, for the phone call.
Yeah, I was there.
I saw it.
I had my hand on my chin.
I'm a chin on my hand.
I'm a chin of my hand.
Yeah, that's what I had.
Could you go back to spring break talk?
I'd rather not, I guess.
It's 50-50 on the pole at Sports RV.
Actually, no, you're winning 54-46, Matt.
Less than 500,000 people.
Yeah.
Maybe 100?
More or fewer.
I put less.
That's incorrect grammar.
That's going to eat me.
It's not going to be fine.
People understand.
I know.
Let's talk to Mac in Pearland at 10, 10, 1111 on 790.
Hello, Mac.
Hi.
Hey, so right now with the rodeo in town, hotel rooms are booked.
So it's a bad place to come for spring breakers.
Well, they would say they're staying in Airbnb's,
is what they would be saying. Or maybe if the hotels are booked, then maybe that's spring breakers.
You can go to the rodeo on your spring break. They don't have to be mutual exclusive.
You could be going, you could come here for spring break and say, I'm going to the rodeo,
I'm going to the WBC, and I'm doing stuff that's in town. I mean, that's possible.
Among the people that have the most money to spend on spring break, which is families and college kids,
they want to go to the beach. And so if they're going to Texas, they're going to Corpus Christi,
for South Padre.
South Padre.
Yeah.
What if you're on a budget, you go to Houston.
So I travel for work a lot, and I've spent times, forgive me, in Oklahoma and in North Texas.
And a lot of families there might come to Galveston for spring break, you know, a seven-year-old, nine-year-old, and they build Sandcastle.
For sure.
You know.
So the Astros and the infield, our third baseman and our designated hitter have both missed well over 100 games between the last two or three years.
And I don't think we're going to end up with surplus people.
I think we're going to end up with depth.
And if somebody gets hurt, we have somebody to put in.
So I'm not worried about that.
Well, the issue is not being worried about it.
The issue is if you're sitting there with a player that doesn't play six days a week
because there's no place for him to go and you've got an outfield that's slugging in about $3.50,
you're going to be worried about that.
So, again, that's down the road a little bit.
They're going to make a move ultimately unless an injury force them to keep the lineup it is.
But there's no way if Cole and Cam Smith don't slug
and Jake Myers takes a step back offensively,
they're going to allow this team
to have the worst hitting outfield
and baseball, especially when you've got
additional help in the infield
that could go play for some other team
if another team is looking for infield assistance.
We'll see.
How did you all know
about the orgies in every city?
Because that's the human element.
Hand four.
I didn't
say I was going to talk about this, but the rock
They need to play
Read as much as they can
I know that he learns for next year
They need to limit Durant's minutes
So that he's still a capable veteran next year
And hope that everybody comes back to play
Thank you, Mac, for the phone call
I'm presuming there was orgies in every city
Is that a bad presumption on my part?
I mean, I imagine they're happening
Maybe even spring break once in Houston
Oh, Jonathan.
How many Orgy Spring Breakers are there since you've got a great numbers of how many people are coming to town?
I don't know. I don't know.
Okay.
I just want to see because you are the census of all things about spring break in our city.
Are there?
Mr. Texas, you would know.
No, no.
I have to come with the entire state.
You start calling you a Mr. Orgy.
No, I don't think so.
10.14.
1114.
I just asked Google AI.
About what?
How many people are visiting Houston for spring break?
And?
More than 2.2 million.
Okay.
So do you want to trust Google AI?
Go ahead.
You knock that out.
Do you trust the local journalism?
No, I don't.
Do you trust Mr. Texas?
Yeah, you should trust me.
You're not Mr. Texas.
Yes, I am.
1115.
Don't fight it anymore.
It's going to make you feel bad.
When people around the streets, when I'm going around town, like tomorrow and I'm
at the Toyota Center, people are like, hey, Mr. Texas, how are you?
I'm great.
Thanks for asking.
A worst possible candidate.
713.
212.
7190.
713.
212, you mean the best possible candidate.
713, 2125.
79.
We've got to tell the truth coming up in 15 minutes.
Now, how many truths are you going to have?
One.
And three lies?
Ooh.
I think those are actually a little or harder, don't you think?
Ain't no half stepping here?
I'm not mailing it in.
I'd like to hear from you.
1115 on 790.
A couple other NFL notes for 890.
way.
I don't think you care about 90% of them,
but there's recognizable players, we should talk about it.
Travis Kelsey is back for season number 14 for the Kansas
Chiefs, which means there'll be no.
Taylor Swift at the half time this year,
the next year's Super Bowl, so take her off the list.
Unless something dramatically changes.
Who is the leader in the clubhouse? I forgot.
I don't think there is a leader, is there?
Okay.
Colts are re-signing wide receiver
Alec Pierce. Crazy, crazy money.
and there was something else that I wanted to show you.
Oh, Miley Cyrus, the betting favorite.
Cardi B.
Cardi B could be certainly a possibility.
That's actually a pretty accurate one, I feel like.
Okay.
Oh, two attack of all has been released by the dolphins.
Could be signing a deal with the Atlanta Falcons possibility.
What?
Atlanta Falcons are just trying to collect as many mid-QBs as they can.
What is that?
Pennix is there.
Cousins is gone.
Curzon's gone, but he was there.
I don't know.
NFL Freedency to me just doesn't.
Like, when I see baseball Freedens, I kind of go, ooh, and ah.
Basketball free incy, I go, ooh and ah.
Football, I'm like, you're just shuffling deck.
People around.
I mean, the Max Crosby trade over the weekend was pretty big ones.
Two first rounds to Baltimore.
Your team, you've been predicting to win the AFC for like five years, you have to predict them again this year, right?
I don't know.
I got to take a look at the offensive.
line. Do you? Okay. Well, I mean...
They lost Tyler Lindelbaum.
Right? He's a free agent.
Max Crosby can be double-dit. You better be double-digit
sat guy the next couple of years. I don't know.
It's a lot of capital you give up. You know all those
coaches and those general managers feel about first round picks,
much less giving up to you. You pick the bills.
I'll make you a deal. You pick the bills again
and be wrong, and I'll pick the Ravens again and be wrong.
I make this promise to you. I will not choose the
bills or the Ravens for the Super Bowl
next year.
But I mean, let's go to the Ravens
real quick before we go back to the phones.
And you have, because I really do believe you think they're very good, and they have been very good.
It's not like they've been a, they're like the Cowboys where they win seven games a year.
They go to the playoffs.
They've lost some defensive pieces over the years and the offensive line is not as good.
And Derek Henry is a year older.
So I'm not as high on them as I have been in the last years.
But are you prepared for being a Labarne Jackson fan that says if he never gets to the Super Bowl wins that it's a failure for his career?
I guess it will be.
I mean, he's a two-time MVP.
I mean, is that a failure?
No, it's not.
Individual on a different.
But I mean, leading, like, I mean, there's a few times.
in the season. He's the same boat as Josh Allen.
Josh Allen should be feeling the exact same heat
that Lamar Jackson is feeling. There's no reason why
they shouldn't be. Lamar Jackson gets more heat for whatever reason.
Is it because of all the contrary renegotiations?
I don't know. I don't know what it is.
It's a head scratcher.
To me, Josh has I don't think it's ever...
Oh, Lord. Josh's never had a...
Missy the ultimate surprise. We can just go ahead and say it. She's at the window,
smiling. Go sell the station. Maybe's great. Get out of here. Go away.
Josh's never had acrimonious
contract negotiations where Lamar's had it twice.
Well, they didn't want to sign it.
They were going to try to trade him.
It's not his fault.
He also does, is it him and his mother negotiates for him?
It's not a real agent, that's for sure.
Well, he got paid.
All right, let's go to David on 7 out of at 1023, 1123.
Hello, David.
Hey, what's that, why?
Hi.
Hey, I just want to talk a little bit about these people are all coming in from, you know,
from all over.
You know, I do listen over on the weekend.
And one thing that I've noticed in the last year, and it's true, people from Chicago, Atlanta, L.A., they love the nightlife here.
You know, they're going to come in this week, not just for the club, not the strip clubs, I mean, the rodeo, but also you got the World Baseball Classic.
The last couple of weeks, we've had, you know, the cheerleader, national cheerleader, the Georgia Brown.
You know, Houston's booming, man.
You know, we got the World Cup coming up.
So I think, yeah, I believe that many people are coming in over the week.
Thank you, David, for your perspective as an Uber driver.
Yeah, but they're coming for events.
They're not coming just because Houston's a nice place to come.
I mean, there's events.
Yeah, events during spring break.
Yeah, if you're coming for spring break, it doesn't really change it.
If you're saying, let's go to the rodeo for spring break, you're going to Houston for spring break.
And it's there every year.
There's stuff not here every year.
We got some breaking news here on the show.
Yes, we do.
Let's hit it.
One more?
I think so.
Yeah, I'll try it.
Well, if you're a Texans fan, you're not going to the Super Bowl again next year.
Why not?
What happened?
Got David Montgomery.
We got Ed Ingram, baby.
Wow, we're getting some David Montgomery here in Texanville.
The Chiefs just signed Kenneth Walker away from Seattle.
You won't curse discuss that.
He used to Texas.
Let's go.
I'm worried about you.
No, you shouldn't be.
I'm just trying to change the show up a little bit.
Okay.
Yeah, let's discuss.
Kenneth Walker is a Kansas City chief.
Bye.
By what?
By AFC Championship.
By Nick Casario.
It's over.
It's over.
You're declaring it over.
Done.
That's ridiculous.
Okay, that's fine.
Yeah, I remember this season, he was already saying it was over for it.
That's true.
You know what I mean?
Nick Casario, AFC Championship or bust.
Yep.
So the chiefs are going to get Kenneth Walker the third.
Yes, they are.
And they have.
Kelsey's back?
How's Rishie Rice doing?
He's elderly.
Is his legal troubles okay
for Rishi Rice?
They do have quite a few legal issues
with the receiving court, I did not.
Tyree Kiel back over there?
Xavier Worthy, still fast.
Mahomes off a bum.
Mahomes off a bum.
Mahom is not a bum.
Oh, I think you're calling him a bum.
Yeah, didn't he, yeah, he had,
did he have ACL surgery?
Yep.
Okay.
Okay, so you know what?
Spring Hope's Eternal Texans fans.
All right.
You're signing in.
Quick AFC power rankings.
Where are the Texans?
Let's see.
The Ravens got a dominant pass rusher.
Yes.
She used to have Kenneth Walker.
Kenneth Walker, the dominant running back.
The number one for agent running back.
Patriots are reigning AFC champs.
Buffalo Bills are good.
Joe Burroughs is going to be back for the bingles.
Jaguars already were better than you last year.
Broncos are ascending.
Yep.
Chargers.
They made some kind of move, right?
The chargers.
Go, charge.
Uh-oh.
Don't let you.
Jonathan Allen here that. He's fine. Chargers.
Chargers fan number. He said you're sleeping
on the Chargers. He knows they're apparently 10
and 7. That's fine. All right. Quick
snap, quick fire
AFC rankings. Texas are what?
Six. Oh, geez.
You know what? Battle Red.
I'm going to give you a spot right now.
What? Jump off.
No. It's not worth it. No.
I didn't make this decision
to be Battle Red Ross
to be some Nambi-Pambi flip-flopper.
I'm battle red through and through.
And that's why you should appreciate me because I'm consistent.
I never joined.
No, because you're Texans hater, Matt.
You're trying to hate on the Texans right now.
No, I'm Texans realist.
Yeah, you are.
You're all, you appreciate my reality.
You're poo-pooing the Ed Ingraham move.
Okay, it's fine.
You can't declare the Chiefs champions just because they got Kenneth Walker.
Oh, I can't.
He's really good.
I can't declare the guy who dominated the Super Bowl.
Okay, you're right.
My bad.
He's reigning Super Bowl MVP.
And he's joining Pam Holmes and the Chiefs.
They've got issues, too.
they didn't even
wait, how far did they go in the playoffs?
They did not go to playoffs.
Yeah, they were six and eleven.
And so what a team did,
so what a team did is they said,
you know what we're going to get better.
Meanwhile, we're going to re-sign our own.
Kenneth Walker, get ready for Aziz.
And we got Don't Shouts back, baby!
Get ready for Daniel Hunter and Camari Lasseter
and Jalen Petrie's about to like Kenneth Walker up.
And they're going to win 9 to 6.
Is that a touchdown in a safety or is that three field goals?
We'll see, all right.
TBD.
You're not even saying a touchdown wins?
Bet the under and take the Texans, baby.
We're winning every single game, 15 to 12.
Kimey Fairbairns still on the roster.
He's ready, okay?
You know the best thing Jonathan is he doesn't even believe this.
Yes, I do.
No, he doesn't.
He's trying to so hard.
He's trying to, he's not going to score a lot.
It's false hope.
It's going to be last year.
They're going to be like 11 and 6 and make the playoffs.
I'm ready, baby.
I'm ready for it to tell the truth.
D'emico Ryan's ready to stop the run, baby.
He'll be stopping a lot of it.
Pat Mahomes can't even walk.
It's fine.
We need Jacksonville to have a downturn.
We don't need this little...
Josh Allen was in a straight jacket
against the Dmitko Ryan's defense.
He does a lot of intersection against him.
Oh, Mark Jackson, it's a different story.
It's fine.
Drake May?
He's going to put the clamps on Drake May.
No, Drake May done.
Finished.
We're over with him.
Yeah, good.
That little 50 minutes.
The fame is gone.
The schedule.
I ain't scared of the schedule.
Yeah.
Mr. Fifth Place schedule.
You're about to find out what first place is all about.
To tell the truth is up next here on Sevedetti.
Here's the thing.
I'm not going to look at you because I don't want to see your mannerisms.
Oh, really?
So I'm going to pretend I'm listening to you in the car.
As we play the tell the truth.
Normally I do it, but we're giving Ross the responsibility today.
You've got four takes.
Yes.
You're lying on three of them.
Yes.
Which means there is one truth.
Yes.
Fire away my friend.
All right.
Let's get started with the piping hot recency bias take.
Or do I believe it?
I saw enough on the floor last night in San Antonio.
Rockets need to do some major retooling in this offseason.
I liked the Kevin Durant trade when it was made.
You got to go big game hunting.
And if that means Janus, it means Janus.
The rockets need to make a big trade.
The way that they are now,
even with Fred Van Vleet and Stephen Adams on this team,
if I wave a magic wand,
you're not better than the Thunder,
you're not better than the San Antonio Spurs who are ahead of schedule.
Those teams are both young,
and they have a lot of their major pieces under contract.
A major shake-up is needed this off-season from the Rockets.
They need to go Janus hunting this off-season.
Okay, now, see, Jonathan, before I go into deeper on this,
he's already told us how he feels about the other two teams in the West.
how could he not be lying about this?
That's why I'm scared for the next thing.
This has got to be a truth.
Could be a truth.
All right, go ahead.
Okay.
I know this one's off the board,
but I've been thinking all about this,
and I'm finally ready to bring this to the table.
There is one pathway to college sports fixing itself,
and it's going to hurt,
and I don't know that it's going to happen.
The word of the day is unionization.
You have too much going on with the NCAA, with the presidents, with the commissioners, with all that.
Northwestern tried to do it a few years ago, and I don't know exactly the solution.
But whether it be college football players doing it on their own or teams, as I said, Northwestern try to do it, or college basketball players or teams, the players have to form unions.
That is the only pathway to fixing college sports.
You have Congress getting involved.
You have Donny T. getting involved with this college conference and all this other stuff.
The word is unionization to help all these massive problems with college sports.
Okay?
Number three.
I don't want to be overreactionary guy when it comes to spring training.
But I'm worried about Zach Cole.
I'm worried about Cam Smith.
I'm worried about the backup catcher situation.
I'm worried about Jose Altuvae.
declining another year.
Carlos Correa already having back spasms
and having some issues.
Jeremy Pena's got a fractured finger.
Astros' offense is going to be bottom half.
Last year, they were 15th and OPS.
I'm not saying they're going to be like 25th or 30th.
Probably the sweet spot is around 15 to 20.
But in terms of team OPS,
where last year the Astros were 15th,
this upcoming year,
they're going to be worse than last year.
I'll put it that one.
They're going to be worse than last year,
in terms of team OPS.
Okay.
Number four.
Ed Ingram is back, baby.
Trent Brown is back, baby.
I do think Arionte Erisori can improve.
Blake Fisher will see.
I know last year,
the Texans' offensive line was not great.
At some points, though,
in PFF rankings,
they got up to 18th,
and I believe for one week they were up to 16th.
Last year, I said they'd be top 25.
It was kind of almost a joke.
But I was serious.
This year, I'm going to say they can at least be league average with a full year of Trent Brown,
a full year of Ed Ingram, and with some improvement from some other guys and some draft picks.
I'm saying just top 20.
I'm not saying they're going to go crazy with it.
I'm saying top 20 only, according to PFF, for the Texans offensive line.
And three of these four lies?
Yes.
Huh.
This turned to be much more complex.
complex, John, than I thought it was going to be. So recap the four again.
Yes, Rockets need to go big Janus hunting in the offseason.
Okay.
Or some other type of marquee player.
Unionization, the only solution to fix college sports.
Astros are going to have a bottom half offense.
I'm just going to say worse than last year where they were 15th in Team OPS.
Last year, top 25 offensive line.
This year, top 20 offensive line for the Houston, Texas.
All right, for me, it's between three and four.
Really? Okay. I'm three and two.
I think you're going to, I think you like the offensive line.
I really do.
I think you're trying to speak it into existence.
Dang, Ross.
Who is number three again? One more time on number three?
Astros' worse offense than last year.
All right. I believe you're telling the truth on that.
I think you're worried about the Astros' offense big time.
I think it's number three.
Maybe you just did it first, so you think we'll just get past it.
Rockets have been disappointing.
I think you could make a conversation for shifting moving the team around without having to bring in Yonnas.
That's why I think you're lying about that.
All right.
I'm going to go with four.
Wow!
Okay, you guys, I mean, the unionization thing was way off the board.
It was tough to come with four.
I think maybe it could work, but it's just too disjointed.
Too many different sports.
If it was supposed to happen, it was supposed to have them five years ago.
Yeah.
There's no pro bowlers on this offensive line.
If you had maybe one, maybe I'd be more apt to say that they could be a top 20 offensive line.
I think they could get there, but I think making that declaration is a little bit too strong.
I'm hopeful the Texans have a top 20 offensive line, but I'm not going to say that they have.
All right.
I lose.
A top 20 offensive line.
Jordan Alvarez only played 38 games last year
He's gonna play many more
So I do think the Astros offense can stabilize
Oh
Here look here I wrote it I should have went one
You should have won with your gut
I was with one originally and I begged off of it
I did not at all
Dude when I said one you guys both were like
Oh that's it and I was like man I was so mad at myself
I was like I ruined the segment
Like they guessed it too fast
I talked it into existence
You should have stuck with your gut
I know
I'm going to agree with you, Matt, too.
I'm sorry.
I like Kevin Durant, and he could maybe, he's a great player.
I'm worried about the Spurs and the Thunder long term.
Major shakeup needs to happen.
And maybe I'm overreacting, and this is recency bias and all that type of stuff.
I could change my mind in two weeks.
This is how I feel.
Good job by you.
I don't feel like they're good enough right now.
Problem is you're going to have 10 teams kicking down the door for him.
Yes.
And do you have enough capital to make a move with 10?
If you run it back next year with this group, you're just going to be behind the Thunder and the Spurs again.
I'm just going to say that.
I know.
It hurts me too.
I'm more hurt that I got, that I had it originally and got it wrong.
Both of you all were like, no, this won.
And I was like, oh, man, I was freaking ruined the segment.
Those are, this is a good one.
I'm not going to lie.
This was hard.
Nice.
I'm happy.
I'm happy.
Thank you.
You should be.
It's always rewarding to have, to get, to, to catch.
You know what? And I always crush your, I always crush you. And I think this is why you do it. It's hard.
It is hard. Coming up with these is hard. I can probably do three every week, but four adds a little bit more of elements of surprise to it. All right. Congratulations. Thank you.
Look, I love, Janus is fantastic. But Rossi, there are going to be so many. What are you going to offer?
I'm saying something. If it's not Janus, I don't know who else is going to be made available, what the situations are going to be? Shingoon.
I think you'd have to move Shingun.
I think his stock is going down this last couple months.
So then how is that going to make it?
I don't know.
Remember, they have scouting, they have televisions, they've got video rooms, they've got, you know.
Untouchable, them in?
Yeah.
I still think so.
I'm saying if you want to chase a championship, which Raphael Stone does, Emeo Doca does.
I would assume so.
I would assume the Fertitas would like to take a championship too.
You didn't get in just for blank and giggles.
Right.
Okay.
That's fine. That's fair.
713, 212.790.
713-212-5-790.
We are with you until noon to 2 o'clock today.
It's 1143.
We have the news at noon coming up.
We have, again, we'll run through some of the key free agent signings.
And again, just coming down within the last 10 minutes,
the Kansas City Chiefs have picked up the number one running back in free agency.
Super Bowl MVP.
Super Bowl MVP, Kenneth Walker.
And we got Dalton Shultz
at Ann Ingram
and Trent Brown
and restructure contracts
I hope they can be a top 20 offensive line
I'm surprised you said that
because I was the previous I mean you had me bullish on that
They ended up the like
Where did they end up of the year? It was like 28 or something
Yeah it was it got
It was awful to start
Then it got better and then regressed
I'm hopefully it can be top 20
But I would don't I'm not declaring they're going to be top 20
Okay
1144 7-4 7
213-212-5-790.
7-13-2-5-7-90.
It is the Matt Thomas Show at Ross again.
Join us, please, at 7-1-3-212-5-7-90.
1144 here on 790.
You know, we've got a lot of things going on here in the sports market with from the Rockets.
We've got incidentally tournament, the Astro Spring Training, WBC's here in town.
It is interesting that, you know, obviously day one of free agency does rule the world when it comes to
NFL. And you kind of would like to have it
in your own neck of the woods, right?
I mean, do you think Kansas City Radio's not losing
their mind right now? Kenneth Walker's joining them?
Yeah, I think they're getting you on, right? Talk about it. No,
I told them I was going to take a nap. Okay.
Tired.
At 1.30 the morning.
Ass kicked.
No, that's an unhappy
flight, I believe.
Super short flight. 32 minutes in the air.
Oh, that's nice. Yeah. Night flying
ain't bad. A lot of traffic out there in those
I-10 over the sky's streets.
It's good.
I'm glad you got back quickly, Matthew.
Yeah, it's took forever to get there.
Okay, so point being, what's the most...
I mean, look, there are dorks in this town that will just go goofy-eyed over offensive line.
I don't think at the end of the day, Ross, people just want the quarterback protected.
They don't care what the contract is.
They don't care what position they play.
Just make sure your quarterback stays up right.
And that's my philosophy.
To get into a deep dive of, well, who should play left guard or who should play center?
We don't know.
We don't follow that.
part of the sport.
I mean, if you are in the weeds of football, then it's something that you do appreciate.
But generally speaking, we turn the television on Sunday at noon.
We want our quarterback to throw the beautiful pass with the receiver to catch the ball
and want the running back to score the big runs.
I mean, I just don't get into a deep dive onto who's doing what.
But it would be cool if they went and got somebody that was like four-time all-pro offensive linemen or seven.
I mean, like Laramie Townsend just signed a rene new deal in Washington.
Another two-year contract today, just literally minutes ago.
No, good for him.
I don't know if they're excited about that or not.
He was great.
He takes a lot of money from people.
He was great last year, and I think he only had like three false starts.
Which is really good because that was not for him.
He was a false start machine down here in Houston.
Yes, he was.
He wants to make sure he keeps those pressure rates down.
False starts don't show up on the pressure rate chart.
Here is the reality of it when it comes to Texans.
The next time we're going to be super interested in something they do will be when Will Anderson gets a big deal.
I mean, the draft will come up, but you're not going to large know who they are,
unless you're just a guy that studies a draft 24-7.
They're not looking to go get a marquee skill position player.
They really weren't in the Kenneth Walker sweepstakes.
Yeah, but we can look into it.
We're supposed to know more than the casual.
But if the casual doesn't care, I'm not going to spend time talking about it,
but the casual doesn't care about it.
What I want is, I want to go in August and September and know the five guys at Nick
Aserio, who is paid to assemble this roster, puts them together,
giving the quarterback who I do care about the best possible opportunity to succeed.
Yeah, it just brings clearer into focus what could happen in the draft as well.
And they need to do some rebuilding.
How much do they believe in Ariante Ersary in being the guy?
I'm going to imagine they still do.
I would think so.
You have your own choices.
You're going to be biased towards your own choices.
So Nick Casario probably thinks the stock is going to go up with Arionte Ersary.
It has to.
He has to hit on some offensive linemen here soon, right?
Who's been the best offensive linemen he's drafted?
This is a question for Wix.
The best offensive linemen the Texans have drafted in the last eight years is now wearing a different uniform.
Who?
Titus Howard.
Oh.
Oh, God.
Yeah, that wasn't a Casario pick, though.
No, it was not.
So I'm trying to think of who.
It hasn't been anybody.
No.
Kenyon Green, no.
Juice Grugs, no.
I guess it is.
Jared Patterson?
A 23-6th rounder still on the team?
He's still on the team.
on my default.
I mean, you do have a starting center,
Jake Andrews.
Yeah, but he was signed from the,
he was signed a free agent last year.
Yeah, that's true.
Oh, okay, now I'm upset.
I don't want to make you upset.
He's due.
So, so you,
Ed Ingram is your right guard.
Trent Brown is an option at right tackle.
Ed Ingram was a solid signing.
Great.
And you got him for a good amount of money
on a relatively short-term deal.
But the reality is this.
If you short-term deals yourself,
you're always in flux.
It wouldn't be nice to get a five-year guy now,
and I don't want you overspending for somebody,
but wouldn't it be nice if they got somebody
that was a five-year guy that said,
all right, you are starting left tackle for the next five years.
Money is good, contract length is good.
We don't have to worry about that.
It feels like, what is it, Ross, when you were always,
when you think you've got something solved,
but then you're, like, it's like you're putting some sort of like a monkey,
you can't find the one,
but you keep finding, you keep finding decent options,
but you can't find the one.
You're putting a lipstick on a pig, so to speak.
Oh, wow.
Not a pig, but...
They're treading water.
It's like they keep on buying a decent 10-year-old cars,
and they haven't had the one that you can sit and forget.
That's exactly right.
You are tired of buying vehicles that have 40,000 miles on them already,
when sometimes you need to buy some new.
Yeah.
Brand-smoking new with Apple CarPlay.
And the heated seats and the back massager.
Back massager's not great for the car.
Oh, you don't like it?
You don't like them.
There's noise and stuff?
No, you don't need that.
What noises?
You know, when it turns left.
Oh, I don't like that.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
I'm not talking about massaging.
No, I don't want my glutes vibrating when some guy is running up and almost hitting me in the back.
I don't need that.
I'm paying attention.
You cannot have a massager while you're driving a vehicle.
You'll fall asleep.
I don't like it.
He didn't see.
It's good though.
And Deshaun Watson probably loves it.
But I don't like it.
So here's the reality.
If you're staying at 28,
can you go find that offensive lineman, whatever,
and say, man, this is your job for the next six years.
I don't need to worry about this.
I mean, say what you about Laramie and Tunsell,
not being a great, I don't think it was a terrible leader, honestly,
but a good player.
You can be both.
28's a sweet spot, honestly, for interior line.
Tackle, it might be difficult, but you can find guys.
If you're a normal general manager who can hit on offensive line picks.
So do you think that he's,
just gets bad intel or do you think he's got a bad intuition? What could it be? We could
just say it's bad luck. Every general manager whiffs
on picks. So that's what we have to wonder. Do we have to wonder is it when we don't
know? Really? Does the Carolina Panthers whiff on wide receivers year after year?
Yeah, the evidence feels like it's bad process. It just feels like that. Yeah. But where the
hope is, my hope is Battle Red Ross is that it's not bad process is bad luck.
For how many years now? Shut up. Okay.
You're on green.
Overdraft of the day he got drafted, right, remember?
Yeah, people say, you take a guard 15th overall.
You need to hit on that.
That needs to be a can't, no doubt about it, can't miss guard.
Okay, so, yeah, there are bodies moving around.
We mentioned Travis Kelsey is staying with Kansas City.
Kenneth Walker is there.
Laramie Tunsell stays in Washington,
which sure not be a good deal for them because he's been really,
I mean, they made the trade, and then they've got,
they're solidified at the left side on their offensive line
for the next two years at least.
In three years, I think, now.
I don't know how the Texans fan base is,
if they particularly care if you're running it back.
Blake Fisher's going to be better.
Ersery is going to make a leap.
Offseason weight training program.
Ready to go.
Body mover.
The good news is Ed Ingram and Trent Brown on the right side.
You can run David Montgomery there like 20 times a game.
That's going to be good.
the running game's going to be better now
because you have both of those guys back
and with David Montgomery.
Well, I mean, I don't think anybody thinks
David Montgomery is going to make the Texans
runoffence any worse.
Yeah, he's not a Lamborghini.
He's a Honda Civic.
Oh, come on.
Ford Mustang.
You want to call him a Ford Mustang?
Yes.
Because he's not a Lambo.
What about a mid-sized SUV?
He's not a, no.
He's not an astro van.
An inside. I didn't call a minivan.
We'll have a little bit of a van.
the comp on him pretty quick.
He's going to be good.
But do you think the Texans' offensive,
you think Casario thinks the offensive line is better
than what it is, that maybe his quote-unquote
trained eyes are not as good as our untrained dies?
I think, I don't.
Like, he thinks the offensive line is better than it is?
No, I think he's Casario Bot.
Because I was talking about this with Adam Wexer,
one of the days you were off.
And he made a great point.
Casario Bot is, looks like it as a computer.
Can I improve? Can I go from a five to a six
on the offensive line?
That's an improvement.
rather than trying to swing for the fences and go for a 10 or a 9 or whatever,
he just looks for incremental improvements.
And sometimes that can be good.
And sometimes we're sitting there tapping our foot waiting for him to swing for the fences and do something better and make a big signing or do anything splashy.
And he doesn't because he's Nick Casario bot.
He's a robot.
He's going to take his emotions out of it.
And he's going to try to improve the team increment.
His splash hires or re-signings are guys that here are his draft picks.
Splashy with Petrie.
Splashy with Stingley.
Correct.
Going to be splashy with Lasseter.
Going to be splashy with Will Anderson eventually.
They swung for the fences when they picked two and three,
but how much of that was orders from high, on high?
Do you think Hannah's going to force him to go get an offensive lineman?
I don't think so.
I don't know.
It's a tough position right now with the cap.
Now that you've signed Ingram, I don't know exactly where they are now.
But if you're Nick, you say, look, I can save some money
by not guaranteeing first round dollars to a guy and get it picked third.
who will help us just as much to save me every little dollar I can for Well Anderson.
Why wouldn't you do that?
The solution is easy, but it's not easy.
Hit your draft picks.
All right.
Running in the deep, that's what the Rockets did, unfortunately.
Rolling.
And they rolled, too.
They rolled.
They got rolled.
Rockets lose news at noon.
Believe it or not today, 150 here on Sports Talk 790.
Our time is noon.
This is 790.
This is the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
In San Antonio Sports Harvey.
We could have had Wimby.
No, he couldn't have.
The ping pong ball said otherwise.
I know.
Could have.
We were supposed to pray for Victor.
We did pray for Victor.
We prayed a lot for Victor.
When the owner says you pray for Victor, you pray for him.
But we got an amen.
And we love amen.
We do.
But one can be greater than the other.
And right now, Wimby has been more impactful for San Antonio.
man's been for the Rockets. A man will end his career with more minutes and games played than Wimby.
Yes, you will.
And I like, and I like, I don't, I don't know if I would like Wimby.
I like a man.
Oh, stop.
You know, he looks a little whiny bee sometimes.
A big whiny B.
He's, he's just fiery.
And he's, he's the same, if he was on your side, it's like, we don't like Dylan Brooks.
He's the worst.
When he's a Houston Rocket, we like it.
All right.
He gets fired up.
He's swat and Tareeson shot in the second round into the second row.
Can I get my tariff.
Are you some back, please, by the way?
I don't know what the deal is.
I mean, look, there was going to be regression.
He wasn't going to shoot 46% from three of the whole year.
I mean, this just wasn't going to happen.
Right, right.
Yeah, he is out of the top 10 in 3 point now.
Just settle at 40.
I'll take 40 from him.
It'll be nice.
Yeah. But it's...
Reed Shepard's around 40?
Yeah, Ray...
Durant's at 40? Yes, he is. Yes, they are.
How do you have 2 40% three-point shooters, and you're just,
not that great of an...
I mean, they're not a bad offensive team.
No. It just doesn't feel
free-flowing. Well, you know
what it is? They don't use a three-point shot as much
as other teams do. Yes, they don't.
They're old-school
that way. They don't force three-point shoots.
All right. Let's get to the news at Newton, friends. Why don't we?
All right, well, there you go.
Houston Rockets lose
to the San Antonio Spurs.
145 to 120.
They cleared the benches at the end
of the fourth quarter.
Wimby only played 30 minutes.
He still had 29 points,
eight rebounds, four blocked shots.
Deeran had Fox had 20.
Stefan Castle had 23.
Keldon Johnson had 20.
Dylan Harper had 19 on 8 to 12 shooting.
They shot 58% from the field.
Rockins didn't even turn the ball over a ton.
Only 12 turnovers.
They just got smoked.
Spurs are 47 and 17.
I mean, that's a great record.
47 and 17 now 7 and a half games ahead of the Houston Rockets in the West.
You're a half game behind the Timberwolves who are now in three.
You're only a half game ahead of the Lakers and the Nuggets who are 5 and 6 in the West.
Not great.
Don't say how we're feeling.
How are we feeling?
Moving on to NFL Free Agency.
Okay, well, the headliner of the NFL Free Agency period so far has been the signing of Kenneth Walker the 3rd.
the reigning
Defending
Super Bowl MVP
is now a Kansas City
Chief
As reported by Adam Schefter
I still do not see numbers on that
I don't know if you've seen those anywhere man
Only that he has signed and agreed to a deal
with the Chiefs
Not sure how much money it's going to be
Does it matter
He's a Kansas City Chief
25 years old by the way
Prime career in the prime of his career
A great running back
Kansas City Chiefs have had
I mean who's the last really good running back they had?
I mean, they've been winning Super Bowls
with like Isaiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards Elair and the boys.
So now they get a RB1,
one of the best running backs in football.
Also, Travis Kelsey going to be back for his 14th season
for the Kansas City Chiefs.
So as you said earlier, Matthew,
that means no Taylor Swift for the Super Bowl.
She's the last big fish remaining that hasn't done
the Super Bowl, like big, big fish.
Yeah, Travis Kelsey, believe it or not today, 150.
Oh, really? Yeah. Okay, great.
Oh, I like that.
Also, in free agency,
Thomas Sports Enterprise favorite, Malik Willis.
Oh, my God.
Just terrible.
Former Tennessee Titans and Green Bay Packers,
great.
Has reached an agreement with the Miami Dolphins.
No money out yet on that either,
so we'll see.
But is Malik Willis going to be QB1
for the Miami Dolphins coming up in the next year?
And they'll be four and 13.
Good luck, Miami.
Have fun with that.
You look decent coming in as a backup.
He's not a good quarterback.
He's terrible.
I'll have to check the tape.
You can check all the tape you want to.
I'll check the tape.
Okay.
Apparently, I mean, some people had him as the top free agent.
In football, that's just over Kenneth Walker, please.
Stop.
That's ridiculous.
I didn't make the list.
All right.
Falcons are eyeing to a tongue of a low.
Speaking of Dolphins' quarterbacks.
So we'll see what happens there.
So they can have Michael Pennix.
and two.
At least they'll both have two left-handed quarterbacks.
That's good for the receivers, right?
No matter who's throwing to them, it's going to spiral backwards.
Well, consensus.
I mean, you guys have a good right tackle now.
We're going to wobble backwards.
Yeah, that's right.
You know what?
Nobody else gave you analytical evidence about left-handed quarterbacks in Rossfield or around.
That's what I'm here for, folks.
Also, in a shocking deal,
Alec Pierce,
four years,
$116 million.
Now, if he played every game against the Houston Texans, where he seems to, he catches at least 250-yard bombs every time against the Texans, this deal would make a lot more sense for me.
But four years, $116 million for Alex Pierce in the Indianapolis Colts.
That's a head scratcher, Matthew.
29 million a year for Alex Pierce.
Doesn't have great hands, does he?
I mean, he can get down the field.
He's a stretch-the-field threat.
And then Pittman got moved today to Pittsburgh.
Yes.
I don't mean to steal your joy there.
No, it's okay.
It's also a Michael Pittman Jr.
traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
That'll open up $24 million in cap space for the Colts.
I don't know.
I just don't get that one.
But there you go.
And that's the news of news.
Oh, Astros are playing spring training right now.
It will be up to Christian Javier to make another spring start for the local nine.
Okay.
Why did your eyes bug out?
He's walked the first two of the first three battles.
Oh, stop.
It's just the spring training.
I know.
I'm just spouting the facts.
Are you can give us play-up play updates?
I'm not going to.
I mean, if something bad happens, you probably will.
Something good happens, you should.
Yeah, walk, strike out walk.
It's March 9th.
Yeah, that's fine.
Javier needs to be a key piece of your rotation.
If you're going to be successful this year, that's all.
It's just a second.
and start of the spring.
Okay.
Well, they really nurse these guys, don't they?
I think they need to.
You see what happened last year.
You did pitch for team of an exhibition against team one as well.
That doesn't count either.
So that's really its third appearance.
Okay, good.
All right.
He's ready to go.
He's getting loose.
We got WBC tonight in downtown Houston, correct?
We got action going on right now, but not in Houston, but yes.
Yeah.
Is it a USA versus Mexico?
Yes.
The border war?
Yes.
Okay.
And somebody put a photo up on the social media that says
tickets or prices are going to be fairly high for tonight.
Yeah.
If you were looking to go.
Apparently the atmosphere for the Mexico games has been great.
And somebody sent us a video of them doing the wave.
That's automatically many, many debt and points deducted.
I don't, do we need a Wave Busters International account?
Wave Busters, I N-T-L.
I like that.
Yeah.
Wave Busters WBC.
Oh, okay.
All right, I want to throw it out to the audience.
I brought up to you earlier.
What has been, now, you.
usually when you say, well, are you excited about something that would again force you to call?
So it's one of those situations that if you don't call and assume that you're not interested.
What has been your general interest of the WBC collectively?
Now, I'm talking about the Team USA games, but just on a rando Saturday, because the weather was kind of dicey here all over the weekend, right?
People were at rain, lost power.
If you had power, did you watch hours and hours and hours of WBC?
I'm going to watch tonight.
You know what I will too?
You and I will have a complete breakdown of the game.
Inns and outs, X's and O, strikes and balls, all that good stuff.
Quick note, by the way, ESPN did not have the numbers on Malik Willis,
but Ian Rappaport had it.
Three years, 67 and a half million.
That's $67 million is not.
Yeah, so it's 20-something.
It's not great.
Let me tell you are a below-average quarterback with a lousy resume,
and you make $25 million a year.
Kids, stop being linemen.
stop being wide receivers, just go throw the damn fuck.
This is bad advice.
Go be an accountant.
There's only like 15 good quarterbacks in all the football.
So Malik Willis is one of the 50.
Oh, yeah, 30.
He's one of the 32 best.
You're one of the 32 best making $25 million.
For maybe throwing about 400 yards in his entire career.
People think he's improved.
Maybe the arrows pointing up.
Maybe I should buy some Malik Willis.
I'm putting my name on it. You heard me.
You already did, actually.
You want me to go to the file?
No, I know, I don't.
I don't put the addendum on the file.
I'll go see because I wrote down when you did it.
My favorite part of the Nostarongest files,
even when I agree with you,
even if you end up being wrong,
I don't tell anybody.
I know.
You leave me out there by myself.
Let's see.
Oh, you did this on December 26th of 2022.
Malik Willis will never be a serviceable NFL quarterback.
And I stand by that.
Okay, I'll write this down.
3926, double down.
At least I'm staying consistent.
I love this.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
713, 21, 2, 5, 790.
713-212-5-790.
We have a Josh Hater Update.
We'll have it for you next here.
Yay?
What?
Yay?
You don't know.
Good?
You don't know yet.
1124, Sports Talk, 790.
7-13-212-5-790.
If you want to chime in, 7-1-3-212-5-7-90.
11-24 is time.
Are you ready for a Josh Hater Update?
I am.
Hater Update.
Matt and Ross's show
Well, he will throw a bullpen tomorrow.
Excellent.
That's great news.
Bullpen is good.
Yeah.
We're all experts on rehabbing pitchers now.
Yep.
Bullpen's good.
Then a little live BP.
Yep.
Simulated game, whatever you want to call it.
And then he's ready to go.
He's a reliever.
He didn't need rehab.
That's it.
That's awesome.
It's good.
So,
2026 opening day.
You,
Clanton,
Wex.
Yes.
Downtown Houston.
Beautiful.
No Pena.
No hater.
It's okay.
Paredi's still an astro.
You got Brian Abrae,
and then you got Isak Paredes.
It's all good,
baby.
Who plays left field opening day?
I've changed my mind about this.
I know, you know, I know this.
You know I've changed.
You're going to say,
Yordon Alvarez?
No, he's going to D.H. Especially,
opinion's not ready. Oh, that's true.
Forget what I said. Yeah, I forgot about that. Yeah.
You can move, well, you can move Carlos to short,
Parades to third.
And you can have Yordon D-Hing and Cole and left.
Yeah. Okay. Forget what I said.
I had forgotten about that.
I was thinking about that before the first injury.
Is that Cole? Four home runs.
Let's go. In how many games?
Oh. I can't answer that one.
He was such a sweet guy
And at what level of baseball?
Hey.
Oh, by the way, we still have the low perfeito.
How are you feeling?
I got over 0.5.
You know, I don't even write,
I don't know if I wrote that down in the,
that's just a man,
that's just an eye bad, right?
I thought we bet something.
It was like a bag of chips or something.
It was a low carb, low cost prize.
That's all we do is bet things now.
Well, you're eating good.
Shut up.
I am getting good.
Chris, on 7.9, 11, 27, 12,000.
Hello, Chris.
Hey, guys.
It's me, your favorite sci-fi and rocket scientist.
I wanted to first say,
Matt, the way you call Rocket Games reminds me of, like,
the finals back in 1995.
Well, thank you.
I've got to give you kudos for that.
Thank you.
Thank you.
All right.
But, yeah, with the Rockets, man,
and the thing that's bumming me out is
seeing everybody standing around, man.
It feels like we're watching ISO ball with James Harden
but without all the three-pointers.
And so I don't know, man.
We've got these great shooters,
and we've got an all-time great in KD,
but, man, this is no movement at all.
So that's what bums me out.
And then with the Texans, you know, like, yeah, I mean,
who wants our RB1 like Kenneth Walker,
when you can get a bunch of tough, smart,
dependable offensive linemen, right,
that are coming off of, you know,
not so great years.
So anyway,
there's always hope for the future fellows.
Thank you so much for yourself.
Thank you, Chris.
I want to go back to the first point because I am not a
analytics person.
I deal in what I see.
Tell me, do you see standing around?
I don't think it's a bunch.
I mean, there is some ISO ball for sure,
but I think that's with every team, don't you think?
Every team is generally, especially,
it depends on what the other team is doing.
If they're doing switches, then you are going to run some isolation
with Kevin Durant and Alperin-Changoon.
especially when they're not double teaming.
I think I'm in times and it's very active on the offensive floor,
cutting to the basket,
as we always talk about being in the dunker spot and moving around.
You don't have a bunch of like, I don't know,
Steph Curry's coming off of five curls for an open shot and stuff like that
because the rockets don't necessarily have shooters like that.
I don't think it's the level of stagnation that the caller is talking about
where it was just James Hardin and as Charles Berkeley would say,
dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble.
They are slow and methodical.
That's because they don't have a point guard,
and the guys that they are their primary score is.
Kevin Durant's not beating guys off the dribble.
Alper and Shingu needs to operate in the post
and back guys down and then collapse double teams
and then pass and then move off of that,
and guys need to be in their spots.
So, yeah, are they running a bunch of Princeton cuts?
No.
You're not back cutting like Golden State does,
but Golden State does at the level of scoring,
especially with staff out there that Kevin Durant is.
You're going to give Kevin Durant the ball.
He's going to park at the elbows,
and he's going to make, what, Ross, 51% of his shots?
Yeah?
And then you're going to go find the dunker spot,
and you're going to have Alpi that can move?
I mean, this is not, again, it's not an internationally complex offense,
but there's not a lot of,
it's not throw the ball in the deep low block
and watch Alper and spin for 20 seconds.
He kicks the ball.
I mean, he's averaging over six assists a game.
So he does get the ball back out into open space.
The problem is the reality is when you have the starting five,
which is currently out there,
and you can actually include Tari's the mix,
you're kind of not at a strength of perimeter game right now.
Reed is knocking down long-range shots,
but Tari's missed a bunch.
A men's going to hit nothing really outside of about 15 feet in the regular,
though he had a long two-pointer yesterday.
That's not common.
And Alperin's three-point shot is no longer part of his game.
Alpern again is take the ball at the top of the key, the one dribble, the spin move,
and he's got a really lightning quick release to the lane once he gets past his defender,
and he usually scores on those type of plays.
It's the fallaway shots.
It's the one leg is up in the air that kind of drives me crazy sometimes.
I think the more power moves that Alperi can make, the better he's going to be.
And I thought he did a lot of that last night against Victor Wemba.
NBA.com stats page has by play type you can filter, and for isolation,
they have the rocket's
fifth in basketball
at 9.6% of the time.
Behind the clippers,
which they isolate a ton
with Kauai Leonard.
Sure.
And the Sixers,
Embeddeed,
Thunder,
Shegildes Alexander,
Timberwolves,
and Edwards.
So,
I mean,
these are all great teams
that are ahead of them
in terms of percentage of isolations.
You have an isolation player
who thrives against anybody
that he would,
and drove me nuts yesterday.
He saw a double team,
what, Rossi,
90% of the time last.
night. They said, you know what?
Well, Lataris and Dorian Finney Smith tried to beat us.
Mm-hmm. And they didn't.
Yeah. All right.
1231 on Sports Talk 790, 713, 212, 570.
The Dominican leading Israel 6 to 1 in the bottom of the fifth.
We're going to call you Mr. WBC.
Yeah. I mean, I'll ask it again.
How much are you watching it?
Columbia and Panama?
knotted up in a nil-nill draw in the bottom of the fifth of their match.
Like some of those games are on strange channels.
One of them is like a...
2B.
2B, there's an FS2 game.
Well, 2B is owned by Fox.
So they've been an FS1, FS2, and then 2B, which is a Fox property.
Yeah.
But, I mean, everybody seems to have a good time downtown Houston.
Ticket prices are going crazy for tonight.
Ooh, I wonder what the get-in is.
Well, the problem is what you do is you...
If you go to those websites and they spike up the first eight or nine,
You're going to do a little bit of digging to see where it is.
But I don't think that have they been sold out any of the games?
It seemed like the USA game was closest sold out.
I don't know what the detentance was.
Yeah.
That's a question for your son.
I guess he was there.
Yeah.
He was, uh, what?
General admission, one-fitty tonight.
For a Monday night game?
Mexico, USA.
The next cheapest are 250.
You can get section 424, row 16, 200 bucks.
for an exhibition game.
I mean, look, no, I mean, it's WBC.
No, so a world baseball classic game, Matt.
Which is once every three years.
Yeah.
The WBC trophy on the line.
You won Diamond Club?
Guess.
You get free food?
I guess. I don't know.
$2,400.
Well, for two, yes.
But about $1,200 a piece.
The front row, they have these two seats for $2,000 a piece.
Oh, hell no.
I'll be checking it out on FS1.
Yeah, well, you'll watch party at your apartment.
Okay.
Actually, it's on regular Fox.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
Friend of the show, Adam Amin is in town, I believe.
Who's going to be on Fox 4K?
I don't know.
Am I missing out on 4K?
Yes.
Don't you have 4K TVs?
I don't think I do.
I love it.
I look for the 4K all the time.
This is great.
Is everything broadcast in 4K?
My Samsung S95B, OLED.
Looks good.
Are you a TV snob?
No.
A little bit.
You're a little bit of a TV stag.
I have one nice TV.
And the rest of my TVs are cheap.
And also, it's having issues, but that's a different story for a different time.
We had a computer monitor with us in Florida.
That was a TV member.
Yes.
Yeah.
Yeah, you get the 4K OLED, Matt?
He doesn't change your life.
Really?
Go walk into a Best Buy and just look at the screens.
Can I get it affordable?
I find you a deal.
Now it's kind of a good time to buy because the next years are coming out.
So March is a good time to buy.
March, Black Friday, and then we're on Super Bowl.
Those are the best times of buy.
Okay.
There you go.
I'm going to start calling you Mr. Best Buy.
I like deals.
Are you the guy that will be...
I'm not cheap, I'm just broke.
Are you the one that will be in front of the Best Buy at...
No.
11.49 p.m. on before Black Friday?
Nobody does that anymore, but I have done that before.
Yeah.
Was it worth it?
Yeah.
Okay, good.
Circuit City I was in front of.
Oh, that is old school.
In a drizzle.
Yeah.
Really?
Yes, sir.
What was the name of the stores before Circuit City?
It was the humble Circuit City.
Remember where it was off of like Townsend in...
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, I had door busted over there.
You get any arguments with people?
No, everything was cool.
Everybody was behaving themselves.
Yeah, I like it.
All right, 1234 on Sports Talk 790, 713, 212579.
If you want to chime in, we've talked about a variety of things today, including
spring break.
Doorbusters.
Doorbusters.
We've talked about the rockets.
We've talked about NFL free agency.
we have the Astros on the brain.
WBC, is anything else we're missing?
Oh, do you want to get into this?
Did you see the college football commission get together the other day?
I did not.
It was like 75 minutes.
It had 75 people for 75 minutes.
That's why I brought up the unionization thing.
Yeah, I don't know.
1235, sports talk, 790.
Is this song on my phone?
Yes or no?
No.
That's accurate.
713-21.
12-790. If you want to chime in and say hello, we are with you today up until 2 o'clock today.
1240 is our time. I have a question. Oh, no.
What now?
Cole Thompson just texted us. The Lions are signing Kay Maze.
Okay. That's fine.
He was a free agent target for the Texans. Three years, 25 million? Couldn't do that.
Run it back with the current offensive line, Rossi.
You got Jake Andrews?
Three years, 25 with 14 guaranteed?
What's the deal?
That's fine.
Well, you were going to say something else.
What was I going to say?
Oh, can I ask you a question?
Sure.
If we were doing Miami Dolphins Radio today, how are we feeling?
Two out, Malik Willis and?
We're feeling we're trying to break down the Miami heat.
You're not doing Marlins talk.
We're going to play Ask for Arch.
Ooh.
Ask for Arch.
No, no.
Play ass for arch.
Oh, play like ass for arch.
That's good.
Get starched for arch?
There are going to be at least five teams that are dying for Arch Manning.
Jets.
Is it a must-win year for Steve Sarkisian?
Why would he come in to play?
I'm just saying.
Yeah, it's going to be the Jets, the Dolphins, the Cardinals.
Who else?
Would Minnesota be won the play?
Ask for Arch.
Play like As for Arch.
You don't have you got to come up with those kind of cliche turns.
Yeah, I know.
I think play As for Arch.
You get some, you get some, you get some T-shirts made.
Yeah.
With two butt cheeks and there's a photo of Archer underneath it.
Play Ask for Arch.
We can make a couple of dollars off this.
Okay, you go ahead and make those shirts.
No.
Let's see how it goes.
I don't know.
I can strike an NIL deal up with it or something.
Let's see.
Who is looking for?
a quarterback. Well, Mendoza's
going to the Raiders.
What is your
initial, again,
we've only seen him this year
because obviously Indiana was the
bright shining part of college football.
Fernando Mendoza.
I don't know enough about him.
Feels like a good, not great. Feels like a Cam Wardish
situation. Yeah. Kind of like a
he was the best of the mid-pack.
He's got to be the guy. Maybe it'll work out.
I think Cam Ward came along as the second half the season
came on. He was better. I'm going to tell you something.
We need him to be bad.
Because if he was keeping it a buck, they were playing ass.
I can't believe he said that.
That was one of the great all-time.
I need the Titans and the Rotten Five, like, all next year.
That's one of the all-time great Rotten Five drops.
Cam Ward.
Yeah.
It's worthy of playing like almost every day on the show.
Maybe we should.
I mean, if we're keeping a buck right now, we ask.
Jonathan.
Hey, I-Ba-Doka.
How about those rockets last night in San Antonio?
I mean, we're keeping a book right now we ass.
How's that left side of the offensive line looking Nick Casario?
I mean, if we're keeping a bulk right now, we ask.
How's that outfield power for the Astros in 2026?
I mean, if we're keeping a book right now, we ass.
Hey, go on, man.
What's the food in the riverwalk like in downtown San Antonio?
I mean, we're doing.
I'm stopping.
Have you heard about Jonathan's 500,000 people coming to Houston, Texas for spring break?
Oh, come on, Cam, say something. Say something, Cam.
I'm telling you, Matt, I'm sorry.
If they say, if KPRC says 2 million, I can give him 500,000.
Well, that in itself should show you that something is whack.
I can give him 500,000 if they're saying 2 million.
So you're saying KPRC is not reputable?
I'm saying KPRC is wrong.
Oh.
You are winning the poll 56 to 44.
Matt, I shouldn't mean anything.
I know.
It's just logically thinking.
44% of people are on.
Jonathan's side.
You don't know.
They just don't know.
Okay, so let's do, before we bury this
into the ground for the five millionth time.
I love this.
Are 500,000 people
visiting Houston for spring break?
You have friends that live outside of the
Houston metropolitan area, correct?
Yes.
Lots of them, would you say a few?
I've been to Western, yeah, I'll say.
Okay, so your buddies at Western Kentucky.
Yeah.
And that's in Bowling Green, correct?
Yeah.
and their spring break is either this week or next week, right?
Or maybe even two weeks from now.
Right.
What are they going to be doing?
Well, what are like 40% of your friends doing?
Probably staying around the campus, right?
Give or take?
I don't know.
I mean, most of us now are like that if bowling green,
track and field bros and broettes can go get some good loving for a one week,
you can't go to the, what is that, what is that, what is that?
What is that?
Golf Shores.
Golf Shores?
Orange Beach.
I'll tell you this, people over there,
they go to Destin, Florida.
But when I was,
I'm telling you right now from experience,
when I was at West Kentucky,
my freshman year,
there were so many,
just women,
I'm just,
just apparently women,
that are coming down to just
these parties that are at TSU,
at U of age,
CDs,
rap,
like, there was so many.
Okay, but that's a handful.
That is not 500,000.
That's what they're coming down for.
Yeah, but they could be coming from A&M,
Baylor.
You know what they're doing
They're coming home
North Texas
I don't even
You know where I went
My freshman year
At North Texas
I went to Florida for spring break
I swear to God
Wow
It's a different time
It's different times
Exactly we're not doing that
We're gonna go
They're coming back home
Okay
They're gonna come to Houston
And party
They're getting squeezed
Hey I went to
I went to part
I was partying in the Sarasota
Yeah but tuition's like
15 times
What it was in those days
You know
And I have a lot of people
That like I know that
Were like DJs that
You've had
the biggest parties right now too like get all that money in and they're not throwing those parties in
Dallas no they're skipping Dallas to go to Houston what's in Dallas what do you mean once in
it's closer nightlife's in Dallas oh please you certain tell me Dallas is 8 million people and has no nightlife
that's ridiculous james hardin had to leave Houston I think oh oh my god Houston's better no
my god Houston's better nightlife than Dallas I couldn't tell you the answer to that okay
oh man we got to get you down to town bro I'm going downtown tomorrow
You know what? I'll go, I'll go to a fancy-ass night club after the game tomorrow night.
No, I can't because we're going to Denver after.
Houston's got the city people and the country people for the rodeo.
Denver's got a better nightlife and I'll have a better time in the Denver nightlife than I'll have a Houston that life.
That's because weed is legal over there. That doesn't mean anything.
Oh, you're worried about weed being illegal in Houston?
That's the only reason that get people over there in Denver.
Oh, that's it.
Forget the mountains.
That is the only reason.
The mountains are nice.
Mm-hmm.
Look, I appreciate you rep in our city and it means a lot.
I mean, you can really come in here and hate it.
I'm not a reffing him.
I'm just telling you the fact.
You saw it on the news?
I just gave you an article about the town 10 destinations for spring break and
Houston was on the nothing list.
Does it mean, all right, all right, look, because I get where you're coming from.
New Orleans has more people going to spring break there.
More people are going to the panhandle of Florida.
More people are going to hell.
They're going to Phoenix.
Ross, I've been telling you about Phoenix 3-2.
You got to go through, enjoy 3-2 in Phoenix.
Listen, Gen Z is the zoomers.
There's a reason why they call them zoomers,
because they have that much babies as the baby boomers.
Think about how many people.
Really?
Really?
Yes.
So think about how many kids.
We got a lot of Zoom in there, don't you?
Who's zooming who?
I thought the fertility rate was down.
For us, yeah.
But not how we got here.
Are we way over for a break right now?
We're super late.
Okay.
This is what happens to the Rockets lose by 25 points.
We don't want by 25.
We wouldn't be talking about ridiculous ass 500,000 people here.
I love this.
I'm having a blast.
I'll wait till Friday.
That's okay.
I mean, if you don't want to get into,
what offensive line in the Texas should be grabbing
let's go. Come on
CJ Stroud you should be saying something
I'm sure is Hannah happy
with this by the way
you can't build Toro Town with that Ingram
now you got the Lions
grabbing offensive linemen but why are the
Texas going to get somebody good
I don't know
maybe Kay Bays wasn't good enough
gotta run it back that's all we're doing
we're just running it back
we're super late 1249
you run it back and CJ Stroud's not
what
if Ced shroud's not
I mean, if we're keeping a book right now, we ask.
A break, then you'd be all right.
Is C.J. S. 713.212.5.790.
Working on today's edition of Believe it or not,
which will be all things about Travis Kelsey,
back for a 14th season running Kansas City.
He's got to be happy. He's got a brand new running back.
That's why he's coming back. He knew. He knew.
Trade wins. We're talking about Kenneth Walker.
Kenneth Walker, okay.
Pat Mahomes' demise, I think largely exact.
you rated.
The reality is, if you were to do
a power rankings like you did about an hour ago,
Max Crosby
signs a new deal to
or gets traded from the Raiders to Baltimore.
Yes. The Ravens were a
field goal away from going to the playoffs last
year. You get a dominant
sackmaster.
You don't have to whisper it.
They probably beat the Texans.
If they're not playing the Steelers.
Ravens have lost
Senator Tyler Linderbaum
by the way. He's signed a
huge deal with the Las Vegas Raiders
for Linderbaum. So
Crosby in Linderbaum out for the Ravens.
So that's good. Their offensive lines aren't going to be as strong.
Yeah. And the Texans re-sign their own.
Yes. Traded away one.
Now he's in Cleveland where he's getting big cash.
The one they traded the year before.
Laramie-Tuncel gets a new two-year extension
to stay in Washington with the commanders.
Mm-hmm.
Quite a few of different, interesting offensive linemen around these NFL streets
are wearing different gear for 2026.
Is it a foregone conclusion?
They go first round with them?
I can see them trading back.
Yeah.
That's the kind of the next repertoire.
Casario loves to trade back.
Yeah.
As we talked about, Casario bot, I see little bit of value.
I will get value.
You know who the last bot was in our city?
For a general manager was Darry.
Derle Mori.
Is that what you want?
Darry
would swing, though.
He would swing for superstars,
but he wouldn't necessarily use the draft
to his competitive
He didn't care about the first round picks.
He would throw a second round
picks left and right of everybody.
Yeah.
Nick, and I don't know Nick at all.
But he,
I don't want to say he's inflexible,
but I think he's probably rigid.
Would that be fair to say
in the way he deals with his franchise?
I think so.
I think there's nothing
out of the ordinary he has done.
He's loved his dream.
draft picks, he's compensated them well.
I think, yeah. He's spent a lot of time
buying short-term
deals on guys that may have been great
somewhere else hoping to catch lightning in a bottle, and
he's done that. His defensive
picks have hit. His street
for agents, for the most part, not named
offensive line have hit. And if you're
him, don't you, why would you want to
necessarily change who you are?
Yeah. Oh, we haven't
even mentioned they signed Sheldon Rankin's back.
Two-year deal on that. That's a good one.
I mean, you restructured or
or put a cherry on top of the Neil Hunter's deal
to keep him here longer, but that was also
a restructuring so you could
free up some cap space.
You did re-signing bonus.
You did re-sign Dalton Schultz as your
TE-1.
Yes.
I mean, don't, look, say what you will.
His first year for the Texans was not great,
but he's been good after that.
I think for a quarterback in C.J.
who's trying to rebuild his conference to have a past-catching
titan who's got relatively good hands.
I mean, I don't think he's a spectacular blocker,
but he's like a 12th to 18th best tied-in in football.
He's mid.
That's what they tire offense is for the Texans.
Well, they need to be better than mid.
I think you have to be better than mid.
But there's nothing that has made me see in this off-season that has said, wow,
the Casario Bod is changing who he is.
Have we heard anything on the...
Joe Mixon situation?
No.
No, no, no.
Well, a different guy that got shot.
Tankdale
Are we just keeping our expectations at zero for him?
I am, I know others are not
Yeah
I hear a lot of
What are the workout streets saying?
The workout streeters are saying
Wow, he looks great
How is his IG workouts looking?
But I'm not going to let that
That determine it
I saw a video and that legs
Got a lot to come back to it
It was a major, major, major, major injury
And also a guy who is slight of build
and his effectiveness is built on his quickness and speed.
Guys, you know this.
I'm Team Tank.
I know.
But getting anything back for him for the rest of his NFL career would be gravy.
It's just he was slight in a build who had two serious injuries in back-to-back years.
Now, the question would be now, does it really matter how the injuries took place?
But of a guy of a bigger stature, if he's 6-1 and 220, does he withstand the type of pain that Tank Dale did go through?
I think Xavier Hutchson crashing into your knee is going to hurt anybody no matter who you are.
That's probably true.
I can't remember.
You know, I don't want to, I'm sorry if I got that wrong.
Friendly fire, right?
It was.
It was a Texan.
I can't remember who it was, though.
I don't think it's fair to the team to rely on somebody that has missed an entire season for him to come on and pick up where we left off.
I'm not relying on him.
I'm just saying, I'm just asking how, what the trade wins are saying?
The trade wins are saying stay out there for more than eight weeks in a row.
Okay.
That's it.
And I root for Tank because he's a great run-after catch guy.
Cougar legend.
Super dude.
Loves our city.
We love that.
Oh, another deal.
Free agency.
Travis Aetian, New Orleans Saint.
Ooh, that helps out the Texas a little bit.
Yeah.
Unless they're big basal tooting guys in Jacksonville, which they might be.
Keep them on your radar, man, for the Toros.
What's his name?
Basial Tootin.
Bachel Tootin.
Mm-hmm.
Okay.
I don't pick Jaguar players.
Ever?
I might add Christian Kirk five years ago.
Okay.
By the way, is Christian Kirkson?
Brian Thomas let me down this year.
Yeah.
I think it's AFC South is a hot mess.
Is Daniel Jones really going to be Daniel Jones for a second straight year before he got hurt?
Are the Jaguars really going to be a 13-win team?
And how much better will the Tennessee Titans?
beat today than they wore before the end of the season last year.
Was it an Achilles for Jones?
Or was it ACL? I don't know, but it was
a serious, it was a season ender for sure.
Yeah, it was an Achilles. And he is
a transition tag guy too.
Week 14 Achilles.
Ooh, see you in October, right?
Hopefully?
Eh, we'll see.
I ain't worried about the Colts. I'm not worried about Daniel Jones now.
Okay, good. It makes me feel better.
It is 101 on Sports Talk 790.
This is the Matt Thomas show
with Ross.
is 107 on Sports Talk 790.
Matt and Ross with you here for the final 53 minutes of program.
All things about Travis Kelsey today,
believe it or not.
And that'll be coming up in about 43 minutes from now.
Tomorrow and Wednesday,
we have Astro Spring Training games,
so we'll be on shorter shows the next two days.
Ross, did you check the latest on the Astros game right now in progress?
No, I have not.
Do you want me to?
Sure, why not?
Well, the good news,
is Christian Javier struck out the side
in the first. Can't wait.
See more of that. The bad
news is he gave up
two runs, one of them earned
in the second.
Right now he's at inning in two-thirds.
Oh no, he got pulled.
Oh, it's great. He's doing fantastic.
You know what? I can't do it. I cannot
get into a deep dive of
how this team's going to be based off a spring
training results. He got two outs and issued a walk.
then hit a guy and gave up a single
and then another run scored on a throwing error by Zach Cole.
Oh, no.
So it's 2-0-0 Cardinals.
And then Javier was pulled.
And now Anthony Maldonado came into pitch next, Matt.
Your thoughts on Anthony Maldonado's prospects?
Well, I'll tell you is what's his jersey number?
Hold on. I'm on to the...
And now some guy named Peter Lambert is in.
Anthony Maldonado, 63.
That's not great for...
pitcher. Okay. And then Peter
Lambert 38. Peter Lambert has not
pitched in the major since 2024.
Where he had a 5.72 ERA.
So you're saying there's a chance. But in Colorado, but in Colorado. Oh, it's an
adjusted ERA. Yeah, yeah. So that's like a
four and a half anywhere else. That's funny. That's funny. Hey,
look, we're going to be excited for the Astros, obviously.
But it's funny. The storyline has not
changed.
E-Sach's still wearing an
Astro uniform.
You still worried
about the outfield.
You injuries
always are a part
of spring training
regardless of what team
you're rooting for.
You've only got two hits.
Do I need to go look
at the power numbers
of the Astros?
I don't want to do it.
Don't do it.
You have a Cesar,
Salazar single?
You know, he's
batting ninth again today.
And Correa reached
on an infield single.
That means he's speedy.
Yeah, you did.
28.7 feet per second.
That's great.
Yeah,
as ourselves are, can you go to Joe a spot
and say, look, bro. I'm your backup
guy whether you wanted to or not, although
Christian Vasquez just signed a monolique deal over the weekend.
Yes, he did.
What does he have left in the tank?
Not much.
You just signed a minor league deal, so not much.
So let's do this for a quick for the next couple minutes of our
segment. What do you think is going through Dana Brown's
mind right now? I think
it is, it's
bullish because you're down in seeing
what you are excited about.
but you need to make a trade
you have injuries
you're on a lame duck situation
as a general manager
as is your manager
what are you doing now what's the matter
I'm looking at Christian Vasquez's numbers
the last two years
why are you ruining this for me
his OPS plus last year
again 100 is average 52
y'all are not making me excited for this season
it's Jonathan it's Ross's fault
I just I feel so bummed
now.
He hit 189 in 65 games for the twins.
Oh my God.
I didn't do.
He was bad.
I didn't realize.
Enough from you today.
Let's see before that he hit 221.
The rest of the show today is nothing but positive things.
Listen to me.
The rest of the show today is nothing about positive astro stuff.
After this segment.
Can I get at least the rest of the segment?
And positive rocket things.
Let me just do the rest of this segment, okay?
Deal. Rockets lost by
25 to the San Antonio Spurs
who have Victor Wimbunyana
punting
Tari Isson with his hand
basketballs up into the upper deck
and then they can't make
threes consistently
and their offense is disjointed
and then the Astros can't get
any power going in their offense.
Christian Vasquez just signed a minor
league deal he had OPS Plus of
52 last year. Your other option
if Aledmus Diaz re-agravage
his foot sprain. It says our Salazar. Nobody in the outfield can hit it all right now.
I don't know what's going on with Christian Javier. He's supposed to be one of the centerpieces of the rotation.
And he's not doing well. And the Texans haven't signed anybody of note.
Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Why are you slendered the Texans? You were excited about the offensive line in the last three hours.
I just had to throw that in. All right. I'm done.
Everything's great. It's fantastic. Jonathan. Spectacular.
If you hear Ross do anything negative the rest of the show
He buzzed me
I'm gonna be positive
I'm taking deep breath right now
Joe mixing treatment
Don't you shoot me
I'd like to live
I don't know
Just a taser
Just a taser
Yeah just a taser
Let's hear this taser
We gotta find it somewhere
There's got to be one somewhere
Buzzer or a taser or something
We'll figure it out
All right
All right I'm gonna be positive
No more besmirching of Houston sports
How about our cougars?
Beat Oklahoma State on Saturday.
How'd your longhorns do?
They lost to Oklahoma.
Thanks for bringing it.
Are they in?
I don't know now.
I thought they were going to be fine, but I don't know.
All right.
Our Cougars are doing great.
Beat Oklahoma State after being down about 80% of that game.
They lost to Oklahoma in overtime.
Chase McCarty with a career high in that game.
That was nice.
9 and 9 in league play.
It's not great.
All right.
For the next 35 minutes, nothing but nice stuff about Houston sports.
We're bouncing back against Toronto.
We're going to see the Astros come back and beat the Cardinals today.
Nick Casero is going to go outside of his comfort zone
and bring it a really ridiculously fine, well-known,
top-shelf free agent player.
Our gas prices are going to go down.
Oh, yeah. I'll hold my breath on that one.
Costa Orange is going to go down.
That's fantastic.
No bad Ross, only good Ross.
The rest of the way.
113 on Sports Talk 790.
Remember again, nothing out of
Ross's mouth is negative about the Houston
sports scene. Buzz
him. Can I hear the buzz? Give him the shocker.
He likes the shocker. Excuse me?
Oh, here's a good story
on the ESPN front page. Why
the Texans gave up too much for David Montgomery.
That's great. Oh, that was me. That was not
you. I'm a lot to be negative.
You're allowed? Yeah. Why are you
allowed? I want you
to say more things because I want to... Nope. Well,
we'll see. We'll see. We've got 40 minutes.
left in the show.
Deep breath.
We got time.
Life is beautiful.
It's great to be here, guys.
James, we're very happy to accept your call.
Good morning, James.
Good morning, James.
Thank you, gentlemen, for accepting my call.
Of course.
I knew that.
But listen, I was calling because you guys know Astros ain't going to make the playoffs.
Listen, now wait a minute.
Before All-Star break, before the All-Star break,
The phone will be ringing off the wall.
What can I give you for Hunter Brown and your daughter have a raise?
The Astros are not, will be out of contention by that time.
So now, food for thought.
You can, you guys can say, what would I'm willing to take for?
I think Christian Walker would assign with the Astros knowing that.
there was no Kyle Tucker or Alex Brickman in the lineup.
Would he sign to play for the Astros?
I'm going to hang it up and listen.
It doesn't matter about what's around him.
The reality is these guys wanted Primo contracts.
They wanted money for what they thought their value was
and the open market is free agents.
You could put the 2017 Best of 22 around Alex Bruegman.
Lex Bremen was going to get more money somewhere else,
just like Kyle Tucker, those guys were going to leave.
They just were.
He ended up doing quite well for himself.
Yeah.
Guys and gals out there listening,
please, and I hate to say this
because I've had to learn this the hard way.
They like their teammates.
They don't love them.
They love money more.
You had Jose Altovae Ross,
who doesn't like to do media,
pull all the reporters over and say,
I'm going to do whatever I can to make sure that,
was it Bregman that stays with the Astros?
You know what that was?
That fell in deaf ears.
Jose Altova, the greatest Astero of him all,
basically called out his owner,
and the owner's like,
thank you, Jose for your service,
but Scott Boris made you do it.
Scott, when you hire Scott Boris,
Scott Boris wants the number one dollar.
He doesn't care if it's a Kansas City Royal.
He doesn't care if you are a Cincinnati rent.
He doesn't care if you're at Los Angeles Dodger.
Kyle Tucker is not an L.A. guy.
He is a Florida guy.
He lived and grew up in Tampa.
He lives there in the offseason.
He went where the money was.
We have got to stop thinking about what's around these particular players
and think about the here and the now is,
I'm 28 or 29 or 30 years old.
I have one decade or then some to make as much money as possible.
to make sure my grandkids, grandkids are taking care of.
I'm going to the highest dealer.
Yeah, that's what I will say.
I don't fault them at all.
That's, I mean, Jose Al-Tuvae being the exception,
he does have Scott Boris,
and he did make sure that he was going to stay in Houston
by any means necessary,
but he is very far and away the exception
rather than the rule for Jose Al-Tuve.
Of every 25 athletes that are considered primo in their positions,
23 of them move on.
You have two one-offs.
And a lot of that is because you took care of them early.
You bought out arbitration years.
And that's why the Pena Brown stuff, you got to think about.
The Astros have not bought on arbitration years of those guys.
Is it interesting or maybe not surprising?
Maybe it's the pending CBA thing, but both of those guys saying,
hadn't even been approached, hadn't even been talked about.
I haven't heard anything about it.
A possible extension.
I think it has a lot to do with the CBA coming up
because there's not a lot of guys that are having arbitration years bought out.
Remember in years past where we had, what was the kid's?
Eric Scuba.
Bobby Witt.
He was.
He got who Lou La Rodriguez was.
But I'm talking about those are four or five years ago.
We haven't heard Bubkus about that.
This should go around.
I don't know.
Maybe there's somebody we're missing.
There has not been a splashy arbitration buyout guy.
I don't think this entire offseason.
Maybe not.
It always feels like there's one or two per year.
You mentioned Rodriguez, I mentioned wit.
Hell, the Astros have in the last five or six years,
bought arbitration years out for Jordan Alvarez.
They bought arbitration years for Christian Javier.
They've even done it themselves.
I think everybody is in a wait-and-see approach.
So when baseball returns in 2028,
we'll have a brand-new philosophical game to play
about how to manage a first-time-ever baseball salary cap.
I don't think it's going to happen.
You don't think we're getting a Saturday.
Sorry, cap.
Unless the floor, these numbers that John Heyman floated out where the floor is half of the cap, that's ridiculous.
There's no chance.
It's 90% in the NBA.
I think it's around there, if not more, in the NFL.
And the owners aren't going to want to do that.
And I kind of get the car.
The counter argument is that why should we allow the Dodgers to pocket all this money and keep it out of the pool for the players?
I don't know.
It's funny, though.
I never thought about it until the last six months.
it's the rich owners that want the cap
so they don't
so they don't be the default
well winning doubt
the Dodgers can buy everybody
yeah the Dodgers can say oh hey hey
we're capped out yeah we're pocketing all this cash
we're capped out guys nothing we can do
it's the rules
that because right now there are no rules
there's luxury tax but they don't
cause yeah they don't care yeah my initial
prediction was soft cap
with a luxury tax but I
I'm interested it'll be interesting
I think hard cap is not
We have got to get rid of this deferred crap.
I think there's a zero...
How you're paying guys 20 years down the road is ridiculous.
I feel like both sides are we going to be able to agree to that.
Maybe less the players, though.
I don't know.
Wouldn't players want more and more than money up front?
Clearly not, because the Dodgers are scooping up players left and right not worrying about it.
Shoah isn't concerned about it.
Kyle Tucker's not even worried about it.
Did Bregman's deal have some deferred money?
I can't remember.
With the Cubs?
Was it 5175 he did?
I can't remember.
The opt-outs are.
huge part of it now.
One of those go away.
A lot of the opt-outs are happening with the, I mean, because of the CBA too, I think.
By the way, you've done well.
One segment, nothing negative.
It was tough.
For a minute there.
You got one more to go.
When you were talking about the Astros, it was tough.
But the Astros are going to do great.
They get the playoffs.
Offense going to be awesome.
What was you to tell the truth today?
Hold on.
Hey!
You got buzzed.
All I was going to say was that chasing a big,
name superstar like Janus would be great.
What's wrong with that? What's negative about that?
You're not worried about the Astros offense.
Hello?
713.
Are you on a remote?
Are you in a bad connection?
790.
713.
21, 2,1, 2, 5, 790.
We have more breaking news, sports, Army?
Yes, we do.
Hmm.
How many you want?
I guess we'll go with two.
All right.
I think I give Jonathan a lot of.
to do here. There's one. Yes.
Here's another one. No, that was the
here it was too. Oh, okay. What'd you got?
Former Buccaneers
six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver.
Mike Evans is coming back home.
Is expected to sign a
three-year deal with
the San Francisco
49ers.
It's about the money.
Not playing it.
I grew up and I was a ball and ice go. I love it more than life
itself, I can't play for C.J. Stroud. None of that was happening.
Hey, come on, man.
You know what? Statement from Mike Evans' decision.
Oh, that's very long. Who cares?
No. Mike Evans, good guy, by the way.
This is like a 500-word statement from Adam Schaefter's posting the agent statement.
Hello, Adam Schepter as agents. Can you write this first, please? Yes, yes.
Bob, can we play some good music? I want to put you in a good mood here.
You do? Yeah. Okay. Something good just happened in the Astros game.
What happened, Matthew?
We can get some music ready to get going here once he finds it.
So I want to set the mood for you properly.
Mm-hmm.
Here it comes.
It's a knee-slapper.
Here's the one-one.
Fastball hit the other way with authority.
Back on it, church.
I loperfeito.
And the Astros take the leave.
That stroke, oh, Lopofito.
Right on the barrel.
You're more excited about that.
Hear that?
All that noise?
Woo!
Woo!
OPS of 800 with the Blue Jays last year.
He's ready.
He's America's outfielder.
Astros in the bottom of the...
They're just in the bottom of the fourth.
Adam and Adam would be mad if they were...
Ooh, Lord.
Bottom of the fourth, three, two.
Cesar and Salazar just walked.
Turn the music guy.
Let's go.
It's not a bomb.
In my world, it is.
I'm sorry.
It's great.
Good luck.
Buzz him.
No, that was a negative.
It was a negative.
People heard it.
People heard him.
I just said it wasn't a bomb.
That's a fact.
That's not a negative.
Hey, when the Astros get three home runs in a game, we're playing this song.
Okay.
This is a Gap Band.
I may have some good hits besides this.
Outstanding?
Outstanding is a jam.
Joey Lopofito.
He's ours again.
Thank you very much, Jonathan, putting that together for us.
Early in the morning?
Jam.
I'm going to listen to some...
Burn rubber on me?
Really?
You know that one.
Maybe you don't.
I don't know.
That's a more, a little more of a deep cut.
Yeah, it's listening to that one in Houston.
Jonathan and I are going to work together for another six months or so until you leave us.
We're going to argue about this every single day for the next six months.
I've got to tell you, I was on your side at first.
You should still be on my side.
more report. I'm just waiting to this week. I'm waiting to Friday. I want more reports.
You know, they're all guesstimations. It's like, you know, it's the same person
guessing as how many people are downtown for a parade. Yeah, but they're guesstimating two
millions so he can give him 500K. I cannot. I can guess I can get, you know what, I'll give
you 125,000. It's ridiculous.
Oh, what's this one?
Do more gap, man. Hmm.
Gunner for your love. Oh.
I was just, I was just putting the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the,
vibe of what Matt needs to understand what
Spring Breakers are really doing in Houston. Oh, yeah.
Number of
20-year-olds making sweet love to
the Gap Band in Houston, Texans.
Oh, wait a minute. This is the jam.
You don't listen. That's on the drive home to K.
Oh, I will be. Let me tell you, I'm being a good move going back
to K Wood.
That's what they call it as K-Wood.
Yes.
The K-Hood.
They call K-Hood, K-Wood, the livable
Forest, lovable Forest.
South Nacadocious.
They don't call it the pineapple community.
That's Sienna.
Shout out to you, Sienna.
Well, this is good.
It was really good.
Nice.
This is too good for 137.
I know we got to save this on.
Yeah, save this for like when we do the night show.
On the quiet, don't know.
You know what you should do?
You should do this as a song after Rockets
wrap tomorrow night when the Rockets beat the Toronto Raptors.
Please beat the Raptors.
They're going to beat the Raptors.
Yes, they are.
They're going to win in Denver, too.
Ross, they're going, listen, Jonathan.
They're going to beat the Rocket.
the Rockets are going to beat them in Denver, right, Ross?
They've got a chance.
Vince and Midtown on 790.
Hello, Vince.
Hey, guys.
Hey, go off this proposal.
I'm not a big fan of Sengoon.
I know he puts up numbers.
And honestly, I don't think E.
May is a big fan of his either.
Mainly because defensively, he lacks
and all the antics when, you know,
his foul baiting and when he doesn't get the foul call,
he stops playing.
But could we, like, maybe, do you think there would be any takers from the lottery teams to take him and have us move into the top five position and pick one of the top five players in the graph this year?
No chance.
Oh, gosh.
This is supposed to be an amazing.
Are you telling me we're stuck?
I'm not saying we're stuck.
Now, there's a difference.
You're stuck with somebody.
It means you're not happy.
The rockets are happy with him.
You asked me, could Alperin Schingung get you a top five pick and return?
turn. I think the answer would that would be no.
Really? Wow.
I'm saying a lot, though.
I think this NBA drive is going to be,
I think you've got five potential stars
right at the very top. You really do.
Now, if you saw...
And that's my point, because I mean, you know,
I think those top five,
any of those top five would fit
that he made's schemes and what
he wants to do defensively, mainly, because I think
that's the biggest problem with the Rock is.
Well, think about this. You have all the...
Yeah, think about this, Vince. You have all these teams
tanking for these top five selections.
Would anybody tank for Uppar and Shangoon?
I like Alper, but you're not tanking for
a top five draft pick who hopefully will be a part of your team
for the next 10 years.
You know, I totally understand
what you're saying and I agree, but he's an all-star,
right? Two-time All-Star.
Injury replacement for one.
Hey, stop. Be nice.
Oh, hey him.
Hit him, Jonathan.
Hit him. I knew it. I knew it. Get him.
Get him.
The fact.
Beb, beep, beep, beep, b, b, b. There you go.
All right, man.
Just a thought, guys.
I know.
It was a good thought.
Thank you for the phone call.
Look, Alpi's got value.
Alpi's got a lot of fans around the NBA, including here.
He is amazing.
He is great, averaging 20 points and nine rebounds.
Can I say something? I'm on, I'm on his.
I'm not a big fan of Shinkgoo, guys.
I'm going to be honest.
I mean, last night games in general, you can't tell me he wasn't all over the place.
Like, it's just, I don't know what's about him.
He's very inconsistent to me as a star.
And that's a real big problem we have, or Houston has right now.
He's an all-star caliber player, 20 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, doesn't grow on trees.
But, uh, can I, I don't know if I could say this.
He has limitations.
Is that too negative?
Oh, no, no, no, that's been real.
That's fine.
I can give it to you on that one.
Thank you.
But its pluses outweigh his minuses.
But there are minuses.
We've talked about this.
The ringer puts like a rolling update.
They're always updating their top 100 players in the NBA.
They have Alper and Shingu number 22 right now.
He's a top 25 player in the NBA.
Correct.
I don't think that's, you could put him between 20 and 30
and be very comfortable doing that.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
Reed Shepard's crock top 100, by the way.
He's at 87.
Good.
Man, you have four top 100 players.
That's just one metric, though.
You're right.
That's a good roster.
It's a good roster.
You know, we're not bringing up to other teams and how many they got.
Okay.
We won't.
I just said yesterday, during the call of the game, I was like, man, San Antonio got eight people that can score.
And they only have three top 100.
Mm-hmm.
See?
Houston greater than San Antonio.
I said it.
Just not playing like it.
Hey!
I'm not going to hit your head.
Don't you buzz yourself.
Taze yourself on that one.
Thank you.
They are playing great. Rockets number one. Spurs suck.
Spurs are antichrist. Spurs are mean people.
Oh, by the way, we had some requests for this.
Food. We got no jobs. Our pets heads are falling off.
That was for my rant a couple of segments ago when I got reprimanded.
Throw some more sound bites and it's fine.
The beginning of that got cut off?
Food. We've got no food.
We've got no jobs.
Who did that?
I loaded that originally
And it was fun
I know
Everything got screwed over
In the transition
Everything's great
Just blame our equipment's great
No equipment's great
No equipment's great
How's the internet
Internet's fantastic
Our
Visual with seeing
Jonathan's been good today
Yes
Has it actually?
We haven't been frozen yet
By the computer
We've seen a lot of head shaking
You know
Yeah
You'll make some point
Sometimes
Well thank God you said
Head shaking
Not head bobbing
What?
He's wrong
with you.
No, I'm just saying
I don't get it.
You were eating food. Were you in out earlier?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And where you're moving up and down?
What is going on? I'm out of here.
Believe it or not, is up next.
12-144. I think I went two hours
so I give you the wrong time zone. That's happened me. That makes me happy.
713-212-5-790.
7-13-212-5-7-9-0. If you want to get in, we're playing for
some great prizes. I wrote the questions today.
It's believe it or not all things about Travis Kelsey with a word for uptown appliance repair.
I want you to have friends at your house to be able to have dinner with you, to have drinks with you,
to be able to wash their clothes. If you got Aunt Irma and Uncle Jed coming to hang out,
why am I bringing the Beverly Hillbillies of the house? I don't know.
All right. Any other positive in?
What do you need? We got Loper Fido going deep. We got Cesar O'Sulles over the walk.
We've got a two-hit day for Carlos Carrillo. All these things you'll hear.
tonight is part of the Astro Spring training coverage here on 790.
Can't wait.
Keep it right here.
Sports Talk 790 all day long.
I like this positive Ross.
Tomorrow, four more hours.
Actually, two hours.
I feel like I'm normally positive.
Yeah.
Oh, hey.
What did I do?
Got him.
What happened?
I didn't do anything.
You just tested it out.
Yeah.
You got to make sure it's ready for tomorrow.
It's a misfire.
Now, Astros are scoring runs.
They've got five now.
Seven hits.
Taylor Tremelt tearing it up
with a triple.
Loperfito, of course, got his
two-run Homer.
Esoc Paredes with an RBI single.
Scoring Cesar, Salazar.
This is so magical to me.
Yeah.
They're ready.
I need five more runs to hit my gut feeling
from last week.
What did you say?
Double-digit game.
They scored double-digit at some point.
They got seven on the nationals a couple days ago.
So you're saying they're getting closer.
Five minutes left to go on the show.
What should we do?
We should play America's fastest growing sports radio game show.
We simply call it be leaving or not.
And here's how it works.
You call 713212-5-790.
7-13-212-5-790.
Today's edition of Believe it or not is all things about Travis Kelsey.
I'll read your statement about Travis.
Statements completely utterly accurate.
You'll say this.
Believe it.
If it's statements, erroneous full of bunk and made up, you will say this.
Not.
Two believe it or not to a row.
When you won a three prizes, Ross, you're ready for this?
A 790 t-shirt.
Lovely.
Or a pair of tickets to see the psychedelic furs, May 23rd at the House of Blues.
Wow, awesome.
Or May 17th, a night of comedy with Jeff Foxworthy at the Smart Financial Center in Sugarland.
I think it's just a Jeff Foxworthy, by the way.
Say that again?
I think it's just a Jeff Foxworthy.
Jeff Foxworthy only?
This is an evening with Jeff Foxworthy.
You said two tickets, two concerts. There's only one concert.
No first? No first. He doesn't see any first. Oh, no first? Sorry for those of you that are psychedelic first fans. We're playing just for Jeff Foxworthy.
You might be a redneck. You might be a redneck. He retired that bit, right? I got to hope so. I'm sure he's funny, though. Tickets available at smartfinancial center.com. Robert on 790. Robert, you ready to play, believe it or not?
Of course.
Kelsey ran into some trouble during his college football career when he was suspended for the entire 2010 season at the University of Cincinnati after failing a drug test for marijuana. Believe it or not?
Not.
That's a believe it.
Sorry.
Thank you, though.
Are you playing along, Rossi?
Sure, why not?
Mark on 790, Mark.
You're ready to play, believe it or not?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Andre.
Kelsey and his brother, On a B'A.
beer brewing company. It's called garage
beer. Believe it or not.
Sounds good.
Believe it. That's correct.
Statement number two for the win.
Kelsey and Taylor Swift first became a thing
when she performed in Kansas City
and then he later invited her to a Chief's game.
Believe it or not.
Believe it. Believe it.
Mark, you're
full of energy today. Congratulations.
Let's go to Mike on
790. Mike, what was your favorite part of today's
10-2 radio show?
All the rocket stock.
For his career, Travis Kelsey has 907 catches for 11,328 yards.
Believe it or not.
It sounds right.
Believe it.
There you go.
Statement number two for the win.
Kelsey's pregame ritual meal for home games at Arrowhead Stadium,
a double brisket sandwich from Joe's Kansas City Barbecue.
Believe it or not.
I'm going to go, believe it.
No, I made that up.
Thank you for playing that.
That was easy.
Brisket in Kansas City?
I just tried.
Matt on 790, Matt, your favorite part of today's 10-2 radio show?
The whole show, Matt, top to bottom.
Kelsey has said that once his playing days are over,
he would consider a career in law enforcement back in his home state of Ohio.
Believe it or not.
Believe it.
No, I made that up.
Thank you for playing, though.
This is a good one.
Thank you.
I kind of get extra bit a little bit tingling when you say something nice about my
Believe it and Nine questions.
What?
Robert on 790. Robert, you're ready to play, believe it or not?
I'm back.
Oh, you're paying you for a second time?
You can't play twice in one day.
All right.
We're going to put you, goodbye.
Uh-oh, the price for.
Hi, Roger.
Okay.
His last name is actually pronounced Kells,
but his father grew tired of correcting people's mispronunciation.
Believe it or not?
Believe it.
That is correct.
Believe it.
Did you know that?
Does it believe it?
Yeah.
Okay.
No, I didn't know that.
Statement number two for the win.
Kelsey wears 87 because that's the year his older brother Jason was born.
Believe it or not?
Believe it.
Believe it.
Believe it is right.
Congratulations.
I got that wrong.
His brother was born in 87, so he wears 87?
They're bros.
Little of bros.
Good for them.
All right.
We have two-hour show tomorrow.
And then we've got Rockets basketball against Toronto.
That's a must win.
It would be a guarantee.
Then they're going to go to Denver and win, right, Rossi?
Then we're going to come back home and play New Orleans on Friday.
Going to win that game.
Then we've got two with the leg, got a five-game homestand come up.
Oh, it's going to be nice.
Lots of victories coming up.
All right, Howard Dean.
Then we're going to take care of New Orleans.
Then we're going to do Los Angeles.
And then we're going to get ready for the next show coming up,
which is going to be highly entertaining.
Four hours of Victor Wemburn,
and Yama and appreciation coming from
Adam Wexler and Adam Clinton.
They are the A-T.
Talk to you tomorrow at 10, right here
in these airwaves that we call Sports Talk
7-nighting.
