Starting point is 00:00:01 Lunch timers. This is the Matt Thomas show. 12-0-1 in H-town. What's happening in lunchtimmers? Good afternoon to you and welcome to a Wednesday edition of the Matt Thomas show with Ross. This is Sports Talk 790. Bobon, the rebound. In front to Holiday, lob, mid-court, and a three.
Starting point is 00:00:25 And one more in a beautiful half-court feed. Took the right hand and jammed it down. Follow a jumper right side from 18 feet as an airball. grabbed by a man Thompson 26 seconds left to go Jalen out baseline left Jabari for a three-porter he nails it
Starting point is 00:00:43 and the Rockets are up two and 11-1-109 seven straight for the Rockets 15 seconds left to go in the game Thompson comes across the timeline for the Rockets on a crossover down the lane he goes up and he jams it down goodness right around Cusbert
Starting point is 00:01:00 and it's now 13-8 Handed of the Porzingas, ball deflected and stolen. This will be a steal for Jalen. Bounce pass to his right. Throw down! Welcome back! That oblique is just fine. Out right side to Jabari.
Starting point is 00:01:18 He wants a dial-up from three. That's no good. Offensive rebound to Alperin Schengut. No look pass to Jabari for the finish. Oh, what an amazing pass for the big man. 98, 97, Houston. Oh, man, are you ready for the NBA tonight? I mean, we can cast.
Starting point is 00:01:35 and discuss. Texans, linebackers aren't going to play, but we can do other things too. Yeah, we can't. We can do everything on this show. But ain't no stopping the new look, well, not the new look, but the, well, compensated rockets. Yeah. I'll be. New looks in their bank accounts. I will be discussing my contract terms with Rafael Stone
Starting point is 00:01:53 coming up at about to 25 minutes. Yeah. He doesn't control that, but I can put a good word in for me. Yeah, we might have to make you a cap casualty. He'll tear it one more time. I heard this song yesterday. You did? You must have been listening to 70s on 70s. It was Yacht Soul.
Starting point is 00:02:18 What does that even mean? Take it for what it's worth. Just understand it and appreciate it. No, I asked a question. You did not answer because there is no answer. I didn't make up the channel. You know what? I don't even want to talk about that.
Starting point is 00:02:29 We'll get to that later. All right, you know what? I'm going to Google, what is Yacht Soul. I'm going to probably, they're going to say late, soul songs in the late 70s early ages. It's something that was completely made up. There was nobody 20 years ago talking about Yacht Soul. All right. He said, man, I can't wait to my new Yacht Soul record comes out.
Starting point is 00:02:47 July of 2023, Google says, Yacht's soul music is a genre of music that emerged in the 70s and 80s. It is a fusion of soul, R&B, jazz, and pop. That sounds perfect. That's ridiculous. Oh, so good. Ain't no stop at us now. It's not a real thing.
Starting point is 00:03:03 Let me put, never mind. Let's move on. We're moving. Let's talk about the Rockets or the Texans. Yeah. Or, I don't know. Or a douchebag, general manager of the Yankees. to that. Oh, okay. I honestly
Starting point is 00:03:15 didn't even listen to those comments. Well, good. We're not the audience. Of course we do. I saw everybody railing on Cashman, and I figured that was enough. Well, I mean, we have to do it live on the radio, too. Okay, good. We will also get to what is, I think, an interesting night in the NBA last night. Brownie
Starting point is 00:03:31 James did make his NBA debut with Pops on the court. Yes, he did. And it was for three minutes. He missed both of his shots. I believe he gathered one rebound. He was a minus five. Oh, I didn't even know that. In those three minutes?
Starting point is 00:03:45 I didn't even look at the box score that long to figure that out. But there is clearly a divided view on what that's like. Are we getting to that now? Or we get into that later? We'll get into it later. What's other segments we got coming up? All right. We got Rafael Stone Rocket Center Manager 1230.
Starting point is 00:04:05 Wonderful. 1.30, shut your bum ass up, mate. Yeah, that ties into what we were just talking about. I got 130 for some people. Really? Oh, yeah. Okay. But we'll probably get to Brony
Starting point is 00:04:17 earlier than 130. Okay. But we can also extend it. We can reset. By the way, I've got an early shut-your-bomb ass happening. It's regarding my phone. What happened? You'll find out at 130.
Starting point is 00:04:27 The Russians finally hack you? Well. I told you not to click those links in the DMs, Maddie. That's true. By the way, we both lose on our gut feelings yesterday. Carla Thomas got to her 1,000-1-1-cour-sist last night. you said it was going to happen Friday I thought it was
Starting point is 00:04:44 and my get feeling it wasn't going to happen at all oh they're double worse well just within the next week so I lost congratulations to Carly Thomas doing good so thank you for everybody that said the nice
Starting point is 00:04:54 but wishes out her direction so it was good all right the Texans did add a linebacker today where I believe Stan Norfleet wants to make a sweet love to the man I think he's got him first team all pro in the next 10 straight years
Starting point is 00:05:06 as does Chris Gordy which I was like why is he defending him so hard and then I realized where he went to school. It's awful. Louisiana state. It's absolutely awful that Gordy just goes overboard for anything LSU. I mean, look, I love my Houston Cougars. Yes.
Starting point is 00:05:23 And Grant Sturroby had 19 tackles this weekend. Wow, Tank Dell had zero catches. But I wasn't wrong about that one. Point being is this, I love my cougars, but they have their own space. And they're going to have it on... Well, and there's not that many of them in the NFL. Well, I mean, it's a different story. I mean, at least with LSU, you got Justin Jefferson, Jamar Chase, Joe Burrow.
Starting point is 00:05:47 No matter what player is talked about with LSU. Like, he's probably, I guarantee you, I can get Gordian here in the next two minutes and have a deep dive into why Jamarckes Russell deserves a second chance. Yeah, I bet he will. Who's the other stiff quarterback? Zach Mettemberger, is I know that was? Maddie Mock, Matt Flynn. Yeah, I mean, the stiff quarterbacks at LSU go way deep.
Starting point is 00:06:06 Yeah. Now, we're going to be careful because we work for the other. LSU Mafia. I know, exactly. But yeah, and my favorite part is what he says he's not a homer. Yeah, it should be called locked on SEC, but I really, really get locked in on SLSU. And hate Alabama. And I hate Alabama.
Starting point is 00:06:25 And he likes to twist the knife when Texas suffers. That's fine. It was one blemish. You know what? I don't like Texas either, but I'm telling you, Texas is going to play for the national championship. I don't know about that. Now, granted, Quinn yours. He was terrible.
Starting point is 00:06:43 Terrible for a second straight week, honestly. We don't need to talk about it. Okay, we'll skip it. Thank you. Who you got this week? Vanderbilt. Oh, that's right. At Vandy.
Starting point is 00:06:51 That's a guaranteed win game. No, it's not. Yeah, it is. You're not losing it Vanderbilt. They literally took down the goalposts against Alabama. Yeah, but you're not letting that happen. And then they were supposed to, they were like 13 and a half point dogs to Kentucky and beat them. No.
Starting point is 00:07:05 Vanity's a spry underdog. You're fine. I'm scared. Their quarterback's like 5-7. Yeah, but he's very good. He's got like 11 touchdowns and like no picks or one pick or something like that. Are you guys going to fill the stadium up like Alabama does when Texas plays at Vanderbilt? I'm not going to Nashville.
Starting point is 00:07:18 That's a good trip, wouldn't you think? Yeah, Nashville's nice. I've only been to Nashville a couple times. I don't know much about it. But when I've been there, I've enjoyed it. I'll be there for a wedding in April. Really? Who's getting married?
Starting point is 00:07:28 People? Oh, I assume. It's compared to robots. I didn't think it would be robots. Yeah, I'm not going for a robot wedding. So it's an AI wedding is what you're telling me. No, I said people. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:07:38 You just don't want to see who they are. That's fine. Yeah. Must be super secretive wedding. No, it's not. Just you always like to pry and sometimes I just like to shut you down. It's not prying. I ask a simple question.
Starting point is 00:07:50 Someone says, oh, I'm going to wedding. Who's getting married? I said people. Nobody says people. Yeah, I did. Yeah, that's because people hate you.
Starting point is 00:07:57 Well, I love people. I love every one of you. I hope you have a great day. No, you don't. And a wonderful weekend. No, let me tell you.
Starting point is 00:08:02 People are forgetting your fraud system. I'm wishing you peace, love and happiness. And I hope all your dreams come true. Mine or the general audience? Everyone, except yours. Okay. That's because I know you. All right. So I'm completely biased on the following one and a half minutes of this conversation.
Starting point is 00:08:17 I want the Rockets win every game. I want to go to the playoffs. I want to experience what I experience as a PA announcer in the 90s when they won championships. And when I first joined the team as a broadcaster, you know, nine years ago, it's been a while. We've had four straight non-playoff seasons. What is you as a rocket fan, then broadcaster? I put the fan in front of the broadcaster first. I am a fan first. What just your original opening thought about tonight in the entire season?
Starting point is 00:08:42 I'm excited as excited for a rocket season as I've been in a long time. The win total is 43.5. I got them going over. I think they're a plain-in-calibur team. I would pick them a little higher if the Western Conference weren't so tough. I am expecting Alpern Shingoon and Jalen Green to make those next leaps along with playing up to their contracts. And then you've got the veteran guys. I love Coach Udoka. I'm feeling good about Rockets Ball right now. I think the cap is managed properly. The draft has been properly addressed.
Starting point is 00:09:14 We needed shooting in the off season. Rechipper is supposed to supply that. Yes. You have two guys that you believe are a part of your big core seven that needed a compensation hit because their contracts took care of them. You got Tari's coming back for that utility role, whatever he is. A man, Thompson hopefully is going to be significantly better than he was a year ago. Although he did everything you possibly could ask for from a rookie.
Starting point is 00:09:37 Except shooting. Fast, decisive, good defense. Plays multiple positions. Rim running. Yeah. He does everything. So if we get his shooting percentage up a little bit, he becomes even a more complete player. We'll wait on that.
Starting point is 00:09:48 I mean, no hurry. Nobody's perfect. No. I mean, you have a lot of deficiencies in this show. Absolutely. I mean, you may know a little bit about football and basketball and baseball, but I go to you for ice hockey. I can't get anything out of you. There's no jump shot.
Starting point is 00:10:01 Unfortunately, that's kind of the crux of the game is putting the ball in the basket. Hey, he can do everything else. He's getting there. 713-212-5-790 7-1-3-212-5-7-90 What is your energy level for the rockets? Now you could say, I don't care. You could say B, wait me up when Christmas starts.
Starting point is 00:10:21 C, I want to see what the first 10 games are all about because Ross, I don't know if you look at the schedule, but the schedule is not a murderer's row the first 10 games of the season. A chance to get, as I like to say, fat and happy earlier. Get the confidence up. Build some momentum. All right. Texans did hire a solicit.
Starting point is 00:10:37 pick up a linebacker yesterday that hasn't played yet this year, but I'm sure he's amazing. He was let go by one team, then let go by another, and then sat around on the market for a week plus, but I'm sure he's great. And pro football focus gave him his grades. We don't need to go through those,
Starting point is 00:10:55 do we? Well, I mean, I think for context we certainly do. A weekend. All right. Raffel Stone, bottom of the hour, here on 790, with a word right now for affordable tree service. Martin Spoonmore call me today. Says Matt, My phones aren't ringing. Would you please tell the people that I can't always get to them in the spring, but I can get to you in the fall.
Starting point is 00:11:14 So if you have been worried about your trees or thinking about adding some trees to your front or backyard, you need to call affordable tree service and ask for Martin Spoonmower. 713-699-6-9-2663. Martin and his team have been working in the Houston area since 1999. Deep-root feeding time, absolutely. Do you know how to do it? Of course you don't. Pruning your trees. You know how to do that?
Starting point is 00:11:36 Nope. Well, if those are things that you think your trees need in order for them to be looking their very best, 713-699-2663. Get Martin and his team out there to look at those trees to make sure they look great for what's coming up for the winter and be ready for springtime. 713-699-2663. 713-699-2663 affordable tree service. More Matt Thomas. Now. on sports talk 790
Starting point is 00:12:07 Nothing can stop me I'm all the way up 1220 It is the bat top of show Gordy's already come in here and admonish me for not bringing up Joe Burrow While wearing his tarry
Starting point is 00:12:20 Easton jersey Seriously I'm surprised we don't call our station KLSU It's a stunner I was trying to find the Georgia Texas pregame on Saturday And I just hear Oh well there we go
Starting point is 00:12:34 There's Nussemeyer with another throw. I'm like, what? We got LSU football over, over Georgia and Texas on 790. I know. But it was on 740, the blowtorch. 740 had the blowtor. Yeah. By the way, rockets on Saturday will be on the blowtorch. Oh, really? I feel like I got to step up my game when I go on the 50,000 watch. Yeah, you should. They can hear you in Mexico City, Matt. You never know. Yeah. All right. 713-212-790. 7-1-3-212-5-790. A quick, easy question for you guys. I'll bump up the show today. What's your energy towards this year's team? Okay. I would think predominantly it's going to be
Starting point is 00:13:08 Wake me up when they're 15 games above 500 Or in the Texan season. Me and the NBA season, a lot of people wake me up on Christmas. Donald, by Hobby Airport at 1221. Thanks for holding. Good afternoon. Okay. I will say from the get-go, I'm not a basketball
Starting point is 00:13:26 officiado, but I'm hopeful for the Rockets this year. But what I want to know is, I know how Stan Northleet feels. He's real high on the Rockets this year, but you're a guy who's going to see the Rockets every game. Every game. And I'm going to have a close-up view. Yes, sir.
Starting point is 00:13:45 What do you think the Rockets are going to do this year? Are they going to be top six in the West? Are they going to have to play in the play-in games? What is your take on it? All right. Thank you very much, Donald, for the phone call. Honestly, I would love for them to be top six. the West is so stacked
Starting point is 00:14:07 that I would say if the Rockets could get to 7-8, that would be a significant achievement for this team. Clearly, because they've been the playing game, because they've not done that yet since the plans didn't exist. So that's my initial answer is I would like for this team to win. I think what I say high-end was, I think, 48 maybe. I think you predicted you gut-feeling 48. Yeah, that's a gut feeling.
Starting point is 00:14:30 So I'm going to go with a gut-feeling of 48 wins. Yeah. Which I think puts them in the 7-8 category in the West. 48 wins would have put them as a 7. Yeah, that feels consistent. I'm sorry, 8. They would put them at number 8. And that's the thing.
Starting point is 00:14:45 It's almost like when you say somebody's getting snubbed for this All-Star game. Well, okay, who are you taking off? Rockets are they're going to finish top six? Okay, but who are they finishing ahead of? And we go through the list, Thunder, Nuggets, Wolves, Mavericks, Suns, Pelicans, Kings, Warriors, Lakers, Clippers. like those are the teams that all finished ahead of you here's what you have to happen Memphis has to stay bad again this year
Starting point is 00:15:11 yeah exactly San Antonio I mean San Antonio's got to stay back to Wimby's not making a leap you gotta make sure hopefully that Sacramento takes a step back and the clippers take a step back Kaui Lennon is not ready to go they lost Paul George The Jazz were ahead of you in the standings before they decided to tank
Starting point is 00:15:25 and they tanked big time too but Lori Markeran's got his brand new contract there they still have what's the point guard that's scores a bunch. It was a Cleveland Cavalier. Colin Sexton. Yeah. They've got some good players. Yeah. That's I'm saying, it's just... God, the West is just super loaded. Yeah, somebody's got to be... And by the way, you would also hope that maybe Phoenix implodes this
Starting point is 00:15:46 year. That'd be nice. And maybe, you know, maybe Colin see what's up with the Phoenix done. I'm just saying. What are you trying to see? I'm saying you may just call and, you know what? You should trade for? Who? People. People. Okay. Yeah, you use that. I use it. Okay. James and Klein at 1225 on 7. I'm sorry. Hi, James. Yeah, how are you guys doing? Wonderful. Listen, the game tonight against Charlotte, I know you're not going to like this,
Starting point is 00:16:12 but Sagan, is he going to get more? Sigeen, is it Sagan or Sagan? It's Sengen. That's fine. You third time's always good. Shangoon, okay. That's okay. Shangoon, is he going to get more than 20 points or less than 20 points?
Starting point is 00:16:26 Well, how do I know that? Is that his prop? The underdog. Oh, it's an underdog prop. All right, you know what? James, since you are a great underdoger, I'm going to go over 20 points tonight on Alperin Shingoon.
Starting point is 00:16:39 Jalen Green more than 21 or less than 21. I just want you to do three. The problem with picking those James and now I did this using Code SportsMT a lot last year. Thank you. The problem of picking Jalen Green is if he's making his threes, it's an easy over. If he's not making his threes, it's an easy under.
Starting point is 00:16:55 So Jalen Green to me is a little bit more volatile one. When you're looking for Shingoon, I would look at the opposing big man, honestly, when he's going against like the Nicolioch's and the Jonas Valenciunises and those types of tough centers, then it's easier to bet the under for him. But on Jalen Green, it's a flip a coin. Is he going to make his threes tonight?
Starting point is 00:17:17 And one more, Van Vleet, 13, less or more? Points? Why don't you go in for a cess? That's an easier one. Van Vleet, very much the same way with three-point shooting. I like to pick more so I can cheer for the Rockets to score. All right. I would go with Van Vleet under 13, if I'm,
Starting point is 00:17:33 going to see Green and Schengun good over 20. The problem is too when you're doing these underdogs or parles which they are effectively are. You want to do correlative ones. So if you bet every single rocket over, you're probably going to lose because that means unless the rockets are scoring 180 points that night. I'm all for that.
Starting point is 00:17:50 Which, yeah. We'd have 76 highlights for you the next morning. Of course, I'd also be a voice left, but you kind of have to tell yourself if Shingoon is going off and then Jalen Green is going off, then maybe that means Fred Van Vleet isn't. Or the other way. Maybe Van Vleet is scoring because
Starting point is 00:18:05 and Jalen Green's not, normally not every single player is going to hit their over. Right. So that's why I said, if you're going to go with those other two is over, I'd probably lean towards Van Vleet under. But again, you can mix those up. Maybe Van Vlitt's over 13 and maybe you're saying it. Yeah. But use the promo code, sports MT. All right, let's talk to what Rafael Stone. We'll do
Starting point is 00:18:24 that in just a couple of minutes here on the Matt Thomas show with Ross. 713-212-5-790. 7-1-2-2-790. Rockets GM is next. 790. All right. So you're saying to yourself, my energy has been a little bit low. Yes, the libido hasn't been what it was. Maybe you're plateauing in your workouts, energy motivation, not feeling good. You've got so many options when it comes to testosterone clinics. Your head is spinning. Let me point you, stop the spinning and point you in the right direction. Centrogenics, testosterone, and weight loss. You get a personalized TRT plan with synergenics. It's more advanced
Starting point is 00:19:00 in basic standard therapy. Other providers are going to give you. Or it's a It's not just some stuff out of a bottle or anything like that. It's dosed based on your types of testosterone and what levels they are at. Customized care with Centrogenics. The professionals at Centergenics are also known for GLP1 weight loss, where you can be evaluated for prescription weight loss medications. So look at the clinics they have all over town. Know that you're going to get that customized care.
Starting point is 00:19:27 And I will point you in the right direction. That is CinergenicsHealth.com. CinergenicsHealth.com. S-Y-N-E-R-G-X-Health.com for Cinergenetics, testosterone and weight loss. Hey, it's Craig Vigio. Listen to the home of the Astros in your home. Just tell your smart speaker, play Sports Talk 790 on I-Heart Radio.
Starting point is 00:19:57 Time is 1231. It is the Matt Thomas show with Ross. This is Sports Talk 790. Rockets and Hornets tonight. Ross, you'll have the launch pad at 6 o'clock. Yes, I will. Will it be good? It will be excellent.
Starting point is 00:20:10 So you will not be mailing it in like you do during Astros coverage? I don't mail in anything that I do, Matthew. That's fair. Let's talk to the general manager of the Houston Rockets on this opening night. Raphael Stone with us here on the show. Rafael, good afternoon. Thanks for joining us. And congratulations.
Starting point is 00:20:25 Was the two guys in the signing of their contracts, was that unlike your to-do list that you kept saying, all right, day one, day five, day 10. I got to knock this off my checklist. No. But it was obviously a really big thing for us and for them. But I think, you know, just kind of the way the collective bargaining agreement works and their contract structures, it was, you know, it was definitely the checklist was make sure
Starting point is 00:20:55 we're having good conversations with them and we're touching base and we're talking through things, but if something didn't happen this offseason, we would have just gone into the next off season. They, for sure, both those guys factor under our plans long term. And so, you know, that was kind of something we took for granted. But in terms of like, we have to get it done now, no, it wasn't a have to. It's a very, very, very nice too, though. I'm really excited for those guys, and I'm excited for the team. I think they're very excited. I think the lot of rocket fans are excited. You've got two different contracts. links. I don't know if that was intentional or that's wiggle room or just what the client and the
Starting point is 00:21:35 player and the agent and yourself wanted. So where do we fall on the three years for Jayland and five for Alpy? Yeah, no, it's really just that what those guys preferred. You know what I mean? And so I think, you know, one thing about being in Houston, I don't want to say we take it for granted, but we're a very, very attractive market. And, you know, and, you know, I've now lived with Jalen and Alperin for three full years. And, you know, I know they love it here. And I know they want to spend their careers here. And I know they love working with EMA and their teammates and everything else.
Starting point is 00:22:17 So we, you know, so from our perspective, I guess we, sometimes I think teams operate out of fear that players might prefer other destinations that that that that that that wasn't and kind of isn't can you know for us really something that that that worries us and so so it was more just hey we want we want to find a good agreement that works for for us and for them and you know when you do that everybody's got to make some concessions here there and certainly they made some and certainly we did too but in terms of like the length and the structure I think you know we want to wanted to provide them with some flexibility so that they felt more comfortable. And that was an area we could provide some that we could give on, you know,
Starting point is 00:23:06 depending upon what they preferred. And so we did. You know, again, like we think we're an extraordinarily attractive play. So we're not terribly worried that they're not always going to want to be here. Rafael Stone, Rocket's general manager with us here on the Matt Thomas show with Ross on Sports Talk 790. I've always wanted to ask you this. if you took if you if i went to your office and did an internship with you how long now don't make fun of my intellect but how long would it take for me to learn the collective bargaining agreement in the
Starting point is 00:23:34 NBA because me trying to explain it to my radio audience is just foolish on my part it is so convoluted in such a mess do you have to constantly cross-check every single every single nuance to that thing yeah i mean uh um yeah before you do something you do something something yes. Like you have to, yeah, you have to go back and, well, you ask me a bunch of questions in there. I'm going to answer the last one, right? Which is, do you have to double check everything? And the answer is yes, you for sure do, because you need to make, you know, it's so much money and it's so, and it's people's lives, you need to make absolute sure that what you think you can do, you can do. And so you pull up the specific section and you reread it and then you, um, you
Starting point is 00:24:23 You confirm it with lawyers at the NBA, and then you go forward. By the way, one of the things that I think never occurs to people is that even when you confirm it with lawyers at the NBA, if they're wrong, you're still in trouble because it's collectively bargained. So it's lawyers at the NBA and at the Players Association who write the language, and if they don't agree on what the language means, the lawyers at the NBA don't get it dictated. It then goes in front of an arbitrator or something like that. We've actually had that in the past where people interpret things differently. And the team has kind of been stuck on the hook long in the past, like, I don't know, 15 years ago or something like very, very long ago.
Starting point is 00:25:10 But it was a great learning lesson for me that you have to be really, really careful. And so, again, it's not enough, even just calling the league and asking, not that they would ever be wrong intentionally. but human beings make mistakes. You have to be careful, and you need to make sure you do the work yourself as well. In terms of the first part of your question about how long it would take to learn, you know, yeah, it's not quick,
Starting point is 00:25:33 but if it's an enormous part of your job and if you've got a little bit of background in contracts, you know, I think it's something that in a couple of years you can become really fluent in. I'm lucky in that one of the guys I work with understands it even better than I do, and I'm, I'm pretty good at it. So between the two of us, we, yeah, we're very comfortable. So we have kind of a depth and breadth of knowledge that I would stack up against any other teams. A lot of teams, you know, struggle more than maybe we do
Starting point is 00:26:09 with that aspect of it. Rockets GM, Raffell Stone with us here on Sports Talk 790, and specifically on Jalen Green, as we know we've seen the ceiling and what he can provide on the floor. This contract, of course, a vote of confidence in his abilities. What have you seen from him that allowed you to give that vote of confidence and what he can grow into and be consistent as far as an all-star
Starting point is 00:26:32 caliber player? Well, I mean, the first thing we've seen is kind of since the all-star break last year, we've just seen pretty consistent play. He's been, you know, you're not, he's a score and shots don't always go in. So it's not, when you talk about
Starting point is 00:26:47 consistency with a score, It's not necessarily does the guy make, you know, three out of seven threes every single game because that doesn't happen. One game he'll make five, one game he'll make one, he'll make one, whatever. But what you do see is that a player is getting the specific spots and knowing and reading the defense well each and every time and contributing in other ways. Like their defense is improving. Their recognition on when to kick and when to go is improving.
Starting point is 00:27:20 all of those things. And so we've definitely seen a much greater level of consistency with Jalen that started, like I said, kind of midway through last season. And we've seen it in the preseason. We've seen it in our training camp practices. And so we're just really, you know, really excited about his future because we're seeing greater consistency and because of his improvement arc. He's, you know, he's definitely somebody who came in with really, really unique. and special talents, but had to learn a lot of the game. And it's gotten every year, he's gotten a little bit better. And in someone that young and that talented, that's, you know, that's what you're at.
Starting point is 00:28:04 That's the big ask is please get better every year. Work really hard at it. And he's definitely done that. And with he and shingoon, we're talking about that and improving and getting better. How much of that do you use the on-court data? And obviously it's a mix. But as far as things on the personal level, putting in the work and being coachable and all that type of stuff, how much do you lean on coach you doka for those things and other parts of your staff?
Starting point is 00:28:29 Well, I mean, we're very much a collective. We have the smallest staff in basketball, and it's very intentional because it allows us all to lean on one another and have real input. But if you get to, there are some staffs that are 60, 70 people, and there's nothing wrong with that. But at that point, not everybody can weigh in and not everybody can, you just can't coordinate that amount of people. And so, for us, it's very much, we're small and it's a collective and everybody's listening to everybody. And obviously, you know, has an enormous voice. but it's also like so that's our process but with both jalen and alpern like it's obvious you know like and i've been around them and in that respect i've got an enormous advantage over
Starting point is 00:29:23 email the rest of our coaches because because i've been around them so much longer and um and for both of them kind of you can you can in real time watch them grow up and um and it's just exciting and it's fun right and they came to us as teenagers and watching them become, you know, young adults is awesome on a very personal level, having nothing to do with basketball. And then on the court, you know, I'm at every workout. I'm at every practice. And you can tell us something.
Starting point is 00:29:57 You know, not everybody has a great day every day, but either people work harder, they don't. And both those guys definitely do. Lastly, Rafael, I was so excited about the development of a men Thompson last year. year. I mean, EMA puts him in so many different positions from the point guard to the power forward defensively, all the intangibles you knew about when you drafted him. I'm excited about his year two development. And then I think there is so much preseason hype about Reed Shepard. Give us a thought or two about what you've seen just from Reed in particular, from the time you drafted him throughout training camp to preseason. And then obviously some expectations about
Starting point is 00:30:33 I'm in for the season. I will. Let me invert them. Let me start with. the men. We're, yeah, we're, we're really excited about him, man. He, he, he actually had a really hard year last year, because if you remember, he didn't even make it through his first summer league game. He sprained his ankle, missed the rest of summer league, came to camp, had a really good camp, and then immediately sprained his other ankle and was out for 20 games, and then got sick, and, like, I still don't know what was wrong with him, but he was coughing for two and a half months last year and lost about 15 pounds and just had a really, really hard year and wasn't feeling good or feeling like himself until, I'd say, maybe January, maybe halfway through January.
Starting point is 00:31:21 And then we started to kind of see him pick up a little bit, and then kind of like Jaylen post All-Star break, he really put it together. And we're really excited about him. He's just a really good basketball player, and he's just blessed with athletic gifts that no one has. He's so big and strong and fast and jumps so high. And because he's a really good player, he's able to use those advantages on both sides of the ball and rebounding.
Starting point is 00:31:52 And he's just, he's really been good for us this summer and in preseason. And so, you know, I think he's going to be a huge part of what we do every game. And the quicker he's able to translate that play, which is some of it is like, confidence and some of it is like his teammates and some of it is just him but the quicker he's able to play like the player we've seen the better will be and and we're excited about that whether that whether that translates immediately at 100% on day one or it takes 20 games or whatever we're really excited about his future um i'm equally excited about reeds future uh but he's a rookie and so um you know i think i think he's going to play uh right away and um and i'm excited about that
Starting point is 00:32:36 that because he had to earn that. That, you know, it was not, even though we were drafted him so high, like, nobody told Coach Udoka that, that, that, that, that, that, that he had to play. And, you know, it's, you bring in talent and I hand it over, and then, you know, he made his job is to win games. And so, so, but I do think he's carded, he's earned, you know, a spot in the rotation to start the year, which is really exciting. The, the game of basketball comes very easy to him.
Starting point is 00:33:04 he's somebody who kind of makes the right read over and like no pun intended over and over and over again and then defensively he's a he's a playmaker and we have a couple of those guys fred is one dillon is one uh tarry is one and amen is one so we actually have a bunch but he's a playmaker it's not he's not a static guy on defense he's he's reading what the opposition is trying to do he's he's trying to take the ball away he's trying to touch it he's trying to make plays and and you know that's translated a bit the flip side is he's never played a regular season NBA game
Starting point is 00:33:43 and everybody's really big and really strong and really good and the things that you get away with at lower levels including Summer League and even against bench units you just cannot do against some of the better players so there's just this natural adjustment period that every player in the NBA goes through and he's going to go through and some guys get through it a little quicker, some guys are a little slower.
Starting point is 00:34:07 You know, we'll see how that goes, but we're very, very excited about him and his future. And, yeah, we do think he can be really dynamic. Awesome stuff. Raffell, thank you very much for the time. Best of luck, not only tonight but the entire season, and we will see you at the T.C. later this evening. Appreciate the visit. Really you do.
Starting point is 00:34:26 Awesome. Thanks, guys. I will see. That's Raffel Stone, General Manager of the Houston Rockets with us here on Sports Talk 790. 713-212-5-7-90 if you want to comment anything that Rafael had to say I'm ready to run through a brick wall and get this rocket season started let's go that was awesome I'm ready to help out turbo and jump off the trampoline I feel like you might rip an Achilles or something so don't do that

A guy that I didn't like because he was a Dodger when I was a young Astro fan, but respected the hell on him.
Starting point is 00:36:13 Fernando Valenzuela passing away at the age of 63 yesterday. May he rest? What happened? I don't know. I'm going to say it's been an illness for a while. I don't know. Mountain climbing. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:36:25 I mean, no, I don't think you got to talk by a bear. No. Or, you know, no. Okay. No, if you only look it up, I'll look it up. I don't, because you're morbid like that. You brought it up. I didn't.
Starting point is 00:36:35 But I didn't think I need to give you a. cause of death. I mean, I'm looking at it now. You brought it up on the show. I figured you'd know why. I probably should have. Undisclosed illness. Okay.
Starting point is 00:36:49 Oh, liver cancer. There you go. Yeah, that's good. So, RIP to him. Cancer sucks. Now, when I was a kid, real quick, and before we got their phones, Fernando would always look up above his bill, he had a bill of his cat, you know, and he would look up and he would have, like, an arrow or something to make sure his eyes
Starting point is 00:37:05 were placed properly. Huh. When I was a kid, I did the exact same thing. You did. Completely emulated Fernando Valenzuela, including his diet. What was his diet? He'd get a little pudgy? He was poorly.
Starting point is 00:37:16 Okay. But damn good. Well, famous pitch? That would be the screwball. The screwball, nicely. Are you serious? Yes. Totally made that up.
Starting point is 00:37:27 Good for you. I'm so proud of you. I thought, I tried to think of the worst answer. It was the right answer. Yeah, the screwball. Okay. Cool. So we should call this show the Screw Balls.
Starting point is 00:37:42 I thought that's what it was called. Is Gordon going to wear this Tower of Eastern Jersey the game tonight? What is he doing? I'm trying to watch some Champions League soccer. He's like now. He's changing the TV. He's not even in here. He wants you to focus.
Starting point is 00:37:53 Oh, my gosh. The good program director comes in and make sure his guys are focused. Okay. Let's go to Ken and Claire Lake on 7 out of your 1255. Hi, Ken, good afternoon. Hey. Yeah. You know, I was thinking while I was waiting to get on the line with you,
Starting point is 00:38:11 how much the rockets in the last few years were kind of like the Astros in, you know, like 11, 12, 13. And, but to see a team, you know, that, you know, finally, you know, they finally started to get the pieces together. Now they're maturing. It's just, to me, it's really exciting. And I try to get my friends, you know, hey, you know, the rockets, you know, why don't you watch them now? while you watch them grow, but, you know, I've only got one friend that's as pumped as I am about the Rockets this year. So I want to go over his house tonight with my 94 championship t-shirt and just watch these guys and just have a blast. Awesome.
Starting point is 00:38:54 Yeah, you know what? You can always wear old-school jersey in me just fine. Yeah. Ketchum and mustard. Classic. Yeah, I would like for them to go ultimately to that. I don't know if it's ever going to because a lot of teams are going retro going back to their old logos.
Starting point is 00:39:09 Yeah, it happened. The Detroit Pistons went back. Yeah, they did. In the NBA, who went back? Besides the Pistons. The Bulls never really strayed. The Hawks went really wacko for a while.
Starting point is 00:39:24 They're more traditional. They went to make more traditional. More of the red and yellow. Orlando, I think, has gone a little more traditional when they went a little sirenke for a while too. But yeah. No, not the current's not bad. Lord knows 80% of my shirts have the Rocket logo on it.
Starting point is 00:39:41 76ers went back, classic. That they did. Nicks have always stayed the same. Lakers are always trying to, you know, they're always trying to find alternative uniforms, but typically they're... That's the thing. Generally, the heritage brands don't change their uniforms every five years.
Starting point is 00:39:53 So let's go. It's crazy. Just be a heritage brand. The Yankees have two uniforms. The gray with New York and the home whites of the pinstripes. That's it. Dodgers wear... I think they have three uniforms.
Starting point is 00:40:03 The grayes that have the whites that have the whitees that have the word Los Angeles or Dodgers on them. Those are really nice on us. And then the white, they're great. The Dodger uniform is pound for pound the best uniform in baseball. No disrespect to our Astros, but Dodgers gear is the best.
Starting point is 00:40:16 Speaking of teams that went back to classics, Astros, kind of. Kind of. The people that wear the Dodger gear are, sons of bitches, but not the uniform itself. All right. Speaking of the Lakers, LeBron James and Bronny James were the first
Starting point is 00:40:31 father-son duo ever to play. in the NBA. In the same history. And we will discuss because Ross has a very strong take on it. Strong take. Strong. Strong. Strong take. Have a take.
Starting point is 00:40:47 Do not suck. And it prompted me to ask a poll question on sports empty about whether it was special or not. I'll give you the details on that. Plus, we have shut your bum ass up in one half hour. This is Sports Talk 790. Lunch timers. This is the Matt Thomas. Show.
Starting point is 00:41:05 103 on Sports Talk 790. Shut your bum ass up coming up in one half hour. DeAndre Hopkins is now a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, being traded away from the Titans. What? I know. Do you have to do our same reaction? What?
Starting point is 00:41:18 No. It doesn't carry that same cash. He's not the same. He's at the end of his career. Yeah, it's, I mean, he went from borderline on his way to the Hall of Fame to just being just another receiver. He had a couple of good seasons with the Cardinals. As I said, borderline Hall of Fame until this.
Starting point is 00:41:34 I wonder where he is in the old-time receiving list. I'm going to guess he's closing. He's probably got to be top 30 at this point, right? Yeah. Got to be there, yeah, for sure, yards. Texans news. Devin White, the new Texans linebacker, he is with the team today in practicing.
Starting point is 00:41:49 He was assigned most recently by the team. Camaria Lasseter is practicing, which adds some room in the secondary. Oh, thank God. Henry Toa Toa is practicing today. All right, let's go. Let's see what else. How's our dog Aziz Al-Shay.
Starting point is 00:42:04 He is not practicing today. Jimmy Ward is not practicing today. Robert Woods is not practicing today. Robert Woods is fine, but yeah, the other guys, be nice to have back. It's fine. 23rd all time in receiving yards, D'Andre Hopkins, behind, just behind Art Monk and just ahead of Brandon Marshall. What an interesting cross-generational selection of those three guys are.
Starting point is 00:42:29 All right. 713-212-5-790. 713-212-5-790. So last night, the Minnesota Lakers game was on, and there was a moment in time where LeBron and Brani were miced up, and it was time to put the two of the guys in the floor at the same time, and LeBron asked if Ronnie was ready, and of course he said yes, because LeBron is the defective coach.
Starting point is 00:42:55 He was giving some advice. So he came on the floor, crowd went crazy, as they would because it's Lakers and it's Brian and it's it's it's a special moment it's a spectacle it's something that's never happened before yes so you know me I don't like to fence it on any of these things so I knew that when I was going to come in today and discuss this with you I had to have an opinion of okay good all right I am not a nepotism fan under any circumstance but to say it doesn't happen in all walks of life would be frankly ridiculous it happens in the workplace It happens, well, probably it's nepotism is in the workplace.
Starting point is 00:43:41 Now, some of the people that have been taking advantage of nepotism works because they work hard. They put in the hours and they're talented. We see a lot of nepotism, frankly, in sports broadcasting. That's true. Jack Buck's son Joe. Joe's a Hall of Fame broadcaster too. I mean, it worked out well. Yes.
Starting point is 00:44:02 Noah Eagle is the new Big Ten announcer. He's doing a bunch of other national events. He'd worked the Summer Olympics for NBC. He's going to be on their NBA coverage. He's very, very young. Kenny Albert, but very talented. Kenny Albert is the son of Marv Albert. Kenny Albert just finished his 500th Fox NFL game a couple weeks back.
Starting point is 00:44:23 He's been on the F team for like a few years though, right? Yeah, he's dropped a little bit, but he's still very, I mean, he's the lead voice of the NHL on TNT. So obviously, he's done very well for himself. Who else would be in the nepotism in broadcasting? I'm thinking about. Fred Nance? Jim's a strange show? No.
Starting point is 00:44:44 Okay, I made that. Point being is this. It's everywhere. It's everywhere. It happens in all walks of life. Tal McNair is the owner of the Texans. There is your great example right there. Like my dentist, his son works for him.
Starting point is 00:44:58 But his son had to go to dental school and become a dentist. So he had to go work somewhere. He didn't just say I'm in the family business? Yeah, he's like, I'll go in there to do suction and don't care. Yeah, go ahead. 106. 30. That's fine.
Starting point is 00:45:12 That's fine. Knock that out. So I saw your tweets last night. Yes. And you had a little blowback from people. Yes. And I remembered why I hate talking, having opinions on Twitter. So here's the bit.
Starting point is 00:45:27 And I've been thinking about this all morning. I can separate LeBron James, the basketball player, from LeBron James, the tweeter. Yes. Because the Twitter annoys the hell out of me. He's mute him. But I don't follow the streets. He's all based on a lot of stuff. You can mute him though still.
Starting point is 00:45:48 And then he won't show up in the 4 U-Tap. That's very key. Oh, thank you for that. I'll make do that. Mute button is your friend. He is so off on so many non-basketball things. It frankly angers me. But.
Starting point is 00:45:59 Oh, so you're mad because he called C.J. Stroud a dog. But in my mind, he is the second greatest place. in the history of the NBA. And I don't think anybody can potentially argue that. I think you could argue Jordan James flip-flop and whatever the case may be. But I think LeBrona,
Starting point is 00:46:15 bare minimum, is the second greatest player of all time. With that said, Rossi, Bronny James does not deserve to be in an NBA basketball court. Brony James was the seventh best player on the USC basketball
Starting point is 00:46:32 team. Brony James was drafted only by the Los Angeles Lakers because they wanted to make it a show. Ronnie James was never considered a first round talent and was considered a borderline second round talent that so many other teams passed on. Now can Bonnie James be good? Can Bronny James take advantage of the opportunities that are being presented to him? Of course he can.
Starting point is 00:46:54 But I'm not going to celebrate the two guys on the floor doing that when Brony James had absolutely no business playing in an NBA game at his age. with his lack of overall success, he didn't deserve it. He's simply there because his last name is James. If Brony's last name was Jones, not James, he'd be lucky to be in a G-League basketball team. So in this particular case, while again, nepotism is a part of life and sometimes guys embrace it.
Starting point is 00:47:25 In this particular case, I cannot support it. Okay. You cannot support it, but I think at the end of the day, it doesn't necessarily matter. when King Griffey Senior was signed by the Mariners, he had been cut by the Braves and the Reds. Like his major league career was he was not a good player. And then he was signed by the Mariners and they played with his son and that was cool.
Starting point is 00:47:45 Tim Rain Jr. was called up before he was ready to play with Tim Rain, Sr. And I thought it was a cool. I mean, I mean not being there at the time. That was a cool story. Then that to me is what this is. We're at the end of the day, when it comes down to it and we strip away the names and all that, what happened on that floor? a 55th overall pick played two and a half minutes of a basketball game.
Starting point is 00:48:08 That's it. But see, but see, your philosophy is that was a nice little anecdotal thing. What a lot of people are doing is going, this is one for the ages. And I do not agree it's not one. It's not one for the ages. It's not history. I think it's cool. I think more it's more of a testament to LeBron and his longevity and his career than it is to Brony James.
Starting point is 00:48:29 A human being just played NBA basketball. having a son old enough to play NBA basketball. That's insane that he's at not only is he 39 years old, almost 40, that he is still playing at the level that he is to where he can, and he's got such a stranglehold on the league to where Rich Paul is his agent and they can strong-arm people. I think to me it's more of a cool, special historic spectacle rather than, it's not going to change anybody's life.
Starting point is 00:48:59 It's not going to be, you know, it's just, Bronny James played for a couple of minutes. LeBron, like, when he checked into that game, I was like, oh, my freaking God. LeBron James is playing with his son. This is insane. Who didn't deserve to be there. And that's what I can't get past. No, he didn't deserve to be.
Starting point is 00:49:17 He was in there for two minutes. He was a second round pick. So what? It's not like he played 25 minutes and stunk up the joint. No, but it was meant not because Brony James did not step on the floor because he deserved it. He stepped on the floor exclusively because his dad is on the court. Yeah, but eventually maybe he will be an NBA viable player. We'll see.
Starting point is 00:49:35 And we don't know. And I'm okay with that. He wasn't there. And he played for two minutes and he's a second round pick. Yeah. And if the Lakers want to do that with their money, who cares? Yeah. The Astros drafted J.C. Correa for Carlos Correa.
Starting point is 00:49:48 Did we get all up in arms when that happened? No. Well, I know you got up in arms when Ben Verlander got drafted by the Tigers for Justin Verlern. That's because he's a gravy trainer. But, I mean, how often does that happen? Oh, by the brother or cousin. The Kerry family, by the way. I forgot about them.
Starting point is 00:50:01 Harry with the son's chip and skipping on it. Yeah. So, again, nepotism happens in every walk of life. I just say in that moment, I was just, I don't even know. I guess I was speechless. It was, because I'm speechless right now. I was like, man, this is crazy. LeBron James, who I've watched his entire career, who, to me, because I'm like two weeks older than him,
Starting point is 00:50:26 he's only got four more championships of me, by the way, Matt. We're still pretty close. I have any more points is he other than you. is, it's about 40,000. But that's the thing to me is because just, I guess, because of we're so close and age, to me, he's been one of those athletes that I feel like I've gone through whatever I've gone through in my life around the same time. And so to see him have a son check into the NBA and play while he is still who he is as an all-star caliber player in the NBA, I thought it was incredible. Yeah, okay. Again, we're a lot to have different opinions on this. And there's, yeah, that's fine.
Starting point is 00:51:03 I just don't have a problem with people getting, like, upset about it. Like, this is terrible. This is a travesty. They should have never done this. A second round pick got three minutes in NBA game. Move on. If you're that upset, if you're that triggered about it. I would not say I was triggered.
Starting point is 00:51:17 Okay. But that's why I made it nice and I just said, special or not special. And I just, if he would have really earned it, it would have been super special. But he didn't really earn it. Not that good. Well, maybe he can play with the younger son. It's supposed to be better. If that's the case, that would be special
Starting point is 00:51:32 because then LeBron be like, what, 45 at that point? Yeah, well, no, how old is Bryce Maximus? Bryce Maximus? James? Yeah. It's a terrible name. I think you've got some kind of crush on the James family. Do I? You know those kids' names.
Starting point is 00:51:48 Because they were saying them last night. Bryce and the daughter is, it was her birthday yesterday. She was there. That was cool. I mean, if the James family enjoys it, for me, it just was like, You're very lucky that your last name is James. Bryce is 17. It's going to be three more years.
Starting point is 00:52:04 I don't know if that's going to work. If he's better, that's going to certainly make a difference, don't you think? I think you're going to have to literally pull LeBron off the court. I'd have to go looking back. Were all the Alloo brothers really good when they played together? Probably not. Felipe, Maddie, Harpo, Garpo, Gonzo. I don't think there was a gonzo.
Starting point is 00:52:23 Wasn't Billy Rickon really crappy when he played with Cal and Cal Jr.? Kyle Jr.? I mean, I don't know if anybody thought that was particularly cool because first of all, there have been a lot of brothers that have played with each other over the years. Well, I think it's cool. I thought it was cool. I can't, I can't give you a frame of reference about Ken Griffey Jr. and Senior. I know they obviously played together.
Starting point is 00:52:42 Let's get Preston Tucker back on the Astros. Now get Kyle Tucker on a good track with them. All right. It's going sideways quick. Shut your bum ass up coming up in about 16 minutes here on the Matt Thomas Show with Ross. 713, 2,1, 2,1, 5, 790. 713-212-1-2-5-7-9. Just to check, let's see.
Starting point is 00:53:01 I like how this guy said, Milo's favorite family. That would be just the opposite. I have, again, my sample size on my Twitter account is small, but I have, how many votes do I have in? 241 votes, 68% said not special, 32% said special. I think in 10 years from now we'll be like, man, remember that time? LeBron played with his son? That was crazy. That's it.
Starting point is 00:53:22 I think we'll be completely forgotten about it. I don't think so. Because I think the other son can be better. That would be the storyline. Well, I don't know if I can we amend this? Till Bryce plays? Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:53:33 I mean, 43-year-old's not crazy. For LeBron, he's superhuman. Yeah. That would have to be some kind of record, right? How old was, what's his name? Willis. How old did Corrine play till? 41?
Starting point is 00:53:46 42? I mean, it's not that much. That's too. Bron keeps himself. Cream is also like semphous. And LeBron's going to only play. You can just plan him in the painting. And you know, eventually he'll start reducing number of games.
Starting point is 00:53:55 place. I mean, he won't be playing back to back to the ax. He didn't want to. He's going to. He's crazy. Yeah. 713. 212.790. I want to tell you by Game Day Men's Health. These are the wonderful people that have said, hey, Matt, we know your audience could use a little
Starting point is 00:54:09 boost when it comes to their testosterone levels. If they're low, Game Day Men's Health.com slash Houston is where you should go to find out the clinic near you. You will get with a licensed provider. They will give you a testosterone check absolutely free. And they'll make sure that everything is on the
Starting point is 00:54:25 up and up. And if you don't have the T levels that are satisfactory to you or to them, they'll put you on a program that's going to help you, get you more energy, we'll get your libido up, we'll get you in the, being able to work out like you used to before, any of those things, if your mood swings are affecting your life, perhaps it could be testosterone. Game Day, men'shealth.com
Starting point is 00:54:44 slash Houston. Game day, men'shealth.com slash Houston. Matt Thomas returns on Sports Talk 790. 121 on the Matt Thomas show with Ross. Our buddy Sam on Twitter, who retires first, Brarnier-Lebron. It's pretty funny. I'm going to have to say, it's actually...
Starting point is 00:55:13 It's a 51-49. It is. You can say... I can say it. I don't think he would retire. Would he go overseas or something? Well, I think we remember by that was who's going to be out of the league first. Yeah, who's going to be out of the NBA first?
Starting point is 00:55:26 That's a close one. Well, Brody was out of the NBA after two minutes. Yeah. We'll see. We'll see how that happens. Again, there is nothing in his pedigree except the dad that suggests that he deserved to be on an NBA roster. Wasn't very good at USC. Probably should have stayed in college at least one or two more years.
Starting point is 00:55:48 People did have him as before his first year, I think, at USC or first year in college. And we also have to remember, by the way, this is somebody who went through a cardiac arrest. He nearly died. And so that to me makes it special too. Like Brani James nearly died on the court of a practice court at USC or whatever it was and was resuscitated and had that issue and came back from that. And he's on an NBA court with his dad. Like before they check in, his dad's like, just play hard.
Starting point is 00:56:17 Don't worry about making mistakes. But play hard, play fast. You see the intensity out there. I thought it was cool. All right. 713-212-5-790. Let's go to Vince in Midtown on the Matt Thomas Show of Ross. Vince, good afternoon. Thanks for waiting.
Starting point is 00:56:32 Hey, thank you for taking my call. Russ's drive, trying about that whole situation kind of made me ill. Just for starters. I totally agree with Matt. It doesn't deserve to be there. I actually think his father did him a disservice by not letting him stay in college, work his way up, the right way. And this is just basically reality.
Starting point is 00:56:58 TV. It's the time that we live in. And it's all I got to say about it. Okay. Thanks, Vince. My only point is that if LeBron was really interested in his son's success, the right advice would have been for him to stay in college. And that you don't need, first of all, they don't need money. That's not an issue. If he's trying to set his own trailblazing way, whatever that is, the best way can do it is to not be next to day. dad, to not be able to get on an NBA team because dad got you on there.
Starting point is 00:57:33 Couldn't Brunny have not declared for the draft? But I'm sure he's... Doesn't Brunny have some of his own autonomy? You would think so. But if LeBron, if dad goes you and says, look, son, I want you to be in the NBA. But you're not doing yourself any favors by going early. Stay in college one or two more years. I think probably my guess is Barney would have taken its advice.
Starting point is 00:57:57 Well, what if Brony said, I want to go to the NBA? And his dad's like, all right, let's make it happen. we don't know. We're not privy to those conversations. I think you'd be foolish to think that any team, if they, through the Great Vine, would have found out that Bronny was going to be drafted. It would have helped get LeBron to stay with that team.
Starting point is 00:58:17 That it was a calculated plan by the Lakers to say, we'll take the second round hand on this. So LeBron can play with his son so we can make some headlines and do this kind of thing. It's just not authentic. That's my point. That's the thing, though, too. let's say he did stay in college for another year
Starting point is 00:58:33 and then developed and developed a shot, which I mean, a lot of the scouts I was kind of reading up on this because I knew we were going to talk about it, saying that LeBrony James has really good shooting form, but he doesn't make shots, which is generally a sign
Starting point is 00:58:49 that they're not going to develop as a shooter. A lot of times if guys are making shots or missing shots and their form is poor, he say, you know what, we can fix that, like him in Thompson or whoever. But Brony James was obviously raised right by his father, he has a great shooting form, his shot's not good. So that's probably not going to develop.
Starting point is 00:59:07 And if he did go back to college and get better, then the Lakers don't control his destiny. Then he can go to any one of 30 teams. And create his own identity. He could create his own identity. And I don't know. I'm not in the James household. Is LeBron James, this overbearing father,
Starting point is 00:59:25 who said, you're going to do this, Brony? I'm saying you're going to declare for the draft. You're going to be with clutch and you're going to play with me on the Lakers and you have no say in this. Did that happen? We don't know. I don't think so. I don't think I happen. I think what happened is just one person opinion is, Ronnie James knows at the end of the day, he's not an NBA player. And the only way he gets to put an NBA uniform on is the Lakers say, we'll take you because we want to keep LeBron in Los Angeles. Yeah. If I was 20 years old and my dad was in
Starting point is 00:59:59 the NBA and they're like, hey, I'm with the Lakers, we're going to draft you and we're going to play together an NBA court. I would say sign me up. That sounds cool. I think that would be awesome. Fortunately, my dad wasn't an all-time great NBA player. Yeah, but he's still a really good, nice person. He's a great. He's got decent taste on radio hosts. He's got me a job before.
Starting point is 01:00:18 Shout out pops. I would have loved to have shared an NBA floor with my dad. I don't know. It'd be like putting Cameron and Peyton on on this show as a full-time co-host having no training at all. No, it'd be like putting him on for one segment. He was in there for two minutes. But no, but he's not there for two minutes. He has
Starting point is 01:00:37 a contract. He's on a, he's taking a roster spot. Yeah, if you made, yeah. Bringing Cameron in on his birthday to do a show with me for an hour, that's a special thing. I didn't ask, I didn't ask, I didn't ask, oh, so you did do that, actually. I didn't ask our boss to sign him to a contract.
Starting point is 01:00:52 I know, he wasn't paid. And also, it's ample of orange. We're talking about NBA players. did I mean Bronnie James I'll give you a quick one Ronnie James played college basketball But didn't do it very well
Starting point is 01:01:05 Was never qualified to be in the NBA No There's nothing on his resume that says He should be He should to occupy a spot the NBA So they took him with a 55th pick They didn't take him if it doesn't matter There's a player out there
Starting point is 01:01:17 That deserved an opportunity to go to the NBA Oh please how many 55th picks are making it in the NBA? Oh I can give you a list right now Go ahead I'm gonna give you a list Give me all the great 55th picks in the NBA right now I'm gonna look at this list right now Right now.
Starting point is 01:01:28 Who was taken 54th in the league in this draft? You don't know. Who was taken 56th? I don't know. Doesn't mean second round picks. Second round picks all the time. Don't make the NBA all the time. Here's one.
Starting point is 01:01:39 Impact players. Vasa Mitchitch of the Charlotte Hornets was the 52nd pick. Okay. Well, then he would have been taken before Brony. Brony was 55. No, I don't. Listen, go, find me somebody after 55 on the roster. Well, I got a look.
Starting point is 01:01:54 Okay. But I'll find some more. I'm sure you can. There's second round. picks all over the place. Point being is this, he didn't deserve it, and so it wasn't a special moment. If he had worked his ass off and
Starting point is 01:02:05 he had been luckily enough to be picked by the Lakers because he was absolutely qualified for the spot, then it would have been really awesome. Okay. And that's your opinion. That's right. Yeah, everybody's got one. Right. Mine just haven't been right. I just don't understand why people are so upset about this. I'm not upset.
Starting point is 01:02:20 I'm just saying it's different to change. He did himself a disservice. A 50-fifth overall pick paid, played two minutes in an NBA game. I'm sorry your feelings are hurt over this. It's not going to be just two minutes. It's going to be four, eight. I don't think he's going to sign a one-game contract. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:02:36 How long is he going to be sent to the G-League? What's going to happen now? Oh, he'll stay on the team. He's clearly not a rotation player, and they weren't going to make him a rotation player. The Bronn's going to command that he stays on the team. Okay. Unless LeBron has a good father and says, you know what, son. Go to the G-League.
Starting point is 01:02:52 Go learn your game. Maybe he will. I'd be smart if he did it. Then I'd give him some major firms. Yeah, if he's going to rot on the end of the bench, it's not going to do him any good. Go play for the Santa Cruz players. He shouldn't be there to begin with, but that's a different issue. What if he's never going to be an NBA caliber player?
Starting point is 01:03:07 So LeBron said, you know what? I want to play with my son. I'm so powerfully in the NBA. I can get this organization to draft him 55th overall, and I can play a few minutes with my son and make NBA history. I don't really have an issue with that. Okay. I just, to me, it was, I'm LeBron.
Starting point is 01:03:25 James and I will command everything when I can, including drafting a player who doesn't deserve to be on an NBA uniform team. That's the case you should draft to me. LeBron and I can be tight. I have eligibility left. Who's better? Brony James or you? I'm going to say me in certain situations.
Starting point is 01:03:41 Free throw line. Zone defense. Zone defense? With Anthony Davis of the back, maybe you'll be okay. That's right. That's right. Funnel to the big man. Final to the big man. Let's do this. Tells people to shut their bum asses up. I got one and involves my phone. Oh, okay. I told you not to click on those links from Korea.

Starting point is 01:04:10 Whatever. I told you, my knees lock. My ankle's locking up. 7-1-3-212-5-7-90. We had a call earlier today, said, Hey, Maddie, what are we going to do with these picks on these different score numbers that are out there for guys like Alper and Shangun or Jailen green or for that matter, maybe a Reed Shepherd.

Starting point is 01:05:56 MT. Ain't nobody getting time, ain't nobody getting time for that. Ain't nobody getting time for that? All right, it's our favorite half hour of the week. We can tell some people to shut their bum asses up. Shut your bum ass
Starting point is 01:06:16 up, man. And ain't nobody got time for that, meaning anything. Like, how about the guy at your office that is losing his hearing and for repeat things five times? I'm not going to be more conversations with you. Ain't anybody got time for me to repeat the same thing over and over? to you. Why you look at me like that? It's not you.
Starting point is 01:06:34 But the only person I can look at, because I look at Connor, you can't see me. That's true. All right, mine, my, oh, put that middle finger down. My God, Conner's trying to keep us on the air, sounding smooth. What are you doing? And wearing himself out. Well, he hasn't meant, we've been out of ass. I'm not going to ask anymore. I'm a little ahead. No, I'm not doing it. I just don't want the, I just don't want the man getting in trouble. Well, we've not identified people's names yet, so we're not doing anything wrong. All right. He's running multiverses.
Starting point is 01:07:04 Let's do, here's one. I am getting texts from both political parties. Oh my God with the text. Please. I am. Nobody got time for you to be sending me text, wanting me to spend money on your campaign. I don't care.
Starting point is 01:07:21 Ain't nobody got time for spam text from political people. If you spend, for example, our good friend Elon Musk is, spending however many millions with Donny T. And then I'm sure, you know, Harris has a bunch of mega donors who are spending millions and millions with her. One of them is going to lose. Do you feel like a dumbass after spending millions on a Democratic or Republican candidate and they lose? Don't you feel like, man, I kind of wasted my cash there?
Starting point is 01:07:50 Yeah, because somebody's going to win. Like people who donated to Donald Trump in 20 and people who donated to Clinton in 16. After you lose the election, on election night, if you've put millions of your numbers, net worth into that? And you're like, yeah, that was dumb. Let's dumb it down to this. I put money on a particular sports team when we go to the casinos to win. Do I feel dumb after I pick the wrong side? I do. But at least that was, at least I got some entertainment out of it. You getting entertainment out of a presidential election? Well, but we don't operate that way. We have, we have interest.
Starting point is 01:08:23 At least we had a sweat. At least it came down to Jaime Fairbear in a field goal. Well, it's going to come down to the seven states up in the air. Right now. When I make a bet, I just want to sweat. I think America's sweating this election out. America's sweating, but in a different, much different way than me sweating the Seahawks and the Broncos. We have seven states in this country they're going to determine the other 43. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:44 Apparently they're trying to put something together to get the popular vote to be the overriding factor. I don't know. I'm saying that if you're talking about sweat, this November, whatever it is, is going to be a serious sweat day for all of America. Because right now I think both sides think they're in. Back to my point. I don't like politics. I don't want my text. Sorry.
Starting point is 01:09:06 Shut your bum ass up. Can I swear at them back? Would anybody directly see that? I think, I don't. I feel like they're automated, right? Have you ever talked to a person on one of these? No, no. And you know what?
Starting point is 01:09:17 I'll stick with that in the same theme. All these election campaign ads. My God, incessant. One after the other, I can't even when I'm on YouTube when I'm watching anything. Shut your bum ass. ass up. Shit your bum ass up, man.
Starting point is 01:09:32 How about take 10% of that political money you're spending and give it to, I don't know, a children's charity fund? How do we even, yeah, we have. Care Cancer. How about we can reinvest in schools and domestic programs and help people? How don't we fix Will Clayton Parkway where every time I'm on, Will Clayton Parkway go in the airport, I, sir, I get a broken vertebrae because there's a big bump in the middle of the street.
Starting point is 01:09:53 Exactly. I'm shuddering like we got bad turbulence on Richmond Avenue. Why can't we fix that? Yeah, let's fix our streets. Stop sending me text Ain't anybody got time for all that Can't nobody got time for that Connor what's going on with you
Starting point is 01:10:05 What's the matter with you I'm just not a fan of the days Already getting shorter I know we don't fall back In daylight savings time Until November 3rd But it's already getting dark At like 630
Starting point is 01:10:15 And ain't anybody got time for that Nobody Is that you get the extra hour Of drinking correct Or sleep You fall back Yeah we get the hour back Right
Starting point is 01:10:24 I don't like 530 night time Yeah it's depressive Seasonal effective disorder is real. I think depression kicks in. Cold weather and dark. In darker. Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely.
Starting point is 01:10:38 That's why Seattle's such a horrible place. Rains, missed, cold. People dropping deuses in the streets. Yeah, they're just upset. They don't have Supersonicics basketball. I would be upset too. I went to Seattle. I didn't have any issues.
Starting point is 01:10:52 Like, I go to San Francisco. I've only seen that happen once. I've seen it happen in Houston, Texas. Yeah, it probably happens everywhere. Have you been around Minutemate Park? I've seen it twice. Vivid, huh? One time, yeah, I'm not even going to...
Starting point is 01:11:07 Yeah, let's move on. Clay, what's the matter with you? Yeah, Jerry Jones for two stupid things he's done in the last couple weeks. One, acting like a child when the radio broadcaster was just trying to ask questions that his fans want to hear, you know, and I think he's getting to fire him. And two is what he said about Derek Henry. he didn't think he'd be a good fit for his team, for their team with the style office they would.
Starting point is 01:11:33 Shut your bum ass up, Jerry. You've already ruined this team enough, so just shut your bum ass up. Shut your bum ass up, man. I think Cowboy fan hate for Jera is at an all-time high. That's a shame. Money spent on CD and DAC. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people.
Starting point is 01:11:54 Crippled that franchise. Don't feel bad for him. Yeah, I don't feel like it. It's fine. Poor babies. I had, you know, I have family from Fort Worth that were visiting this weekend. I say, how about them Cowboys? It's fun. Oh, that's what you're going to do?
Starting point is 01:12:10 Yeah. You haven't seen these family members in a long time? I think once in the last 20 years. And that's the first thing you're going to say is, how about them Cowboys? Absolutely. No, one of them. Uncle Phil. No one of them don't want to see you.
Starting point is 01:12:21 That's not even staying away for so long. 713-212-5-7-90. Something's bothering you. Anybody got time for that or shut your bum-ass up. Mo on 7-90. Mo, what's the matter with you? Yes, sir. Alexander from the Green Man Packers. Shut your bum-ass up, trying to talk to CJ on the last drive when he scored first down on you.
Starting point is 01:12:47 Shut your bum-ass up, man. Who do you say was talking about? Jair Alexander. Yeah, he was the one talking smack to Stefan Diggs. They were all smacked on the whole day. It was Packers versus Texans. I was like, what the heck is this coming out of left field? You play once every six years?
Starting point is 01:13:02 you're having this nasty fight? It was chippy. Like it was an interstate rivalry. Intra state rivalry. Intra, yeah. Like the Cowboys Texans game will not have nearly as much blank talking like the Packers' Texans had. Well, the fans will.
Starting point is 01:13:19 Bring your Kevlar, folks. I wouldn't go. Well, darling, you can go. Texas, darling, have a great time. A lot of prison shivs. Wink, wink. And those parking lots. Remember they had to, when that happened in Houston,
Starting point is 01:13:30 there were all those fights with Cowboys and Texans fan? And wasn't that a preseason game? Or was that regular season? No, it was regular season. Okay. They had to change the rules. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:13:38 Yeah, they had to show a parking pass to show up or something, right? Or a ticket. You had to show a ticket to tailgate or something like that? That's it. Yeah, you just can't go there just for, you know, just to do it. John and Needville on 7-Hunney, John, what's the matter with you? Man, it ain't going to make you happy, Matt. Ain't nobody got time for the diva season and can't play back-to-back
Starting point is 01:14:00 games. Lopping, traveling, double driveling, over-the-hand basketball season. All right. Well, that's fine. T's his own. Don't watch. Ratings and revenues are up.
Starting point is 01:14:14 Yeah, I mean, I get it. I run into it all the time. What am I supposed to tell you? Boston Celtics draining a record number of threes last night, getting their rings. Jason Tatum is fun. Joel Embed, Nicola Yolkich, Luca Donchich, LeBron, James,
Starting point is 01:14:28 and Steph Curry last gas for their career. Up and coming stars like Out. and Shigoon and Jalen Green, I'm ready for some NBA basketball. And if you don't want to watch, you are missing out. On the high, I'll say it, the highest talent level in the history of the league. One through 15 on every team. Players are better, faster, stronger, more skilled than they ever have been. And it's a fun watch for me.
Starting point is 01:14:49 Now, Joel N. B., who announced he's not playing back to backs. Shut your bum ass up, man. He's had a bunch of knee problems his whole life. He doesn't want to win. He is the Laramie Tunsel of the NBA. He was playing on one leg last year in the playoffs. I think he wants to win. Time to recover.
Starting point is 01:15:05 Time to get over this. He did not have to play last year in the playoffs. He was heard of the same. And he is there for the check. He's a Laramie Tunsel of the NBA. Really good. Great resume. Joel is one of the best talents in the NBA.
Starting point is 01:15:19 And he plays real hard and we're happy to have him. God, that is so good. Your Cal McNair is horrific. Your Darry is outstanding. That is unfair, Matt. Did you see? Hannah playing flag football. I did see that.
Starting point is 01:15:36 All the fake media. I gotta get me a one-on-one with Hannah on this. Sometimes she lets me touch her. Okay, that's enough from you on that. 713-212-5-790. Good God. If you get anything else you want, it's really bothering you. Let's go.
Starting point is 01:15:51 I'm bothered by my radio co-ho. 7-13-212-790. 7-1-2-2-790. Another segment of shut your ballmass up, but I ain't nobody got time for that coming up. after I tell you about two creeks crossing resort, what do you want to do when you want to get away, but you can't decide between going camping or going to a resort?

Starting point is 01:17:42 You do? And we're going to let the man whose ass needs to be shut. Huh. That's weird. Get that one too. Yes. All right. Chris Mad Dog Russo.
Starting point is 01:18:02 Okay. 66 WFA. Yankees in a world series again. He was on his show called Spitballs. Are you serious? I think it's called hard balls. It's spitballing with Chris Rousseau and a mad dog. So he had on his bestie, Brian Cashman, the general manager of the Yankees, and it went something like this.
Starting point is 01:18:26 Give me your thoughts here of finally getting back and winning a pennant after a 15-year. I don't want to say doubt that's not fair, but you want to say what I'm saying with a gap. How about winning a pennant? How does that mean to you? Let me hear. It means a lot. I hate the 15-year thing because it doesn't, it's completely forgets and discounts at the that some other organization cheated us when we were all the way in the end,
Starting point is 01:18:46 you know, if you knew what was going on, I don't think they would be advancing at that during that time thing. I think we would have been advancing. So I hate that 15-year thing because I don't think it accurately reflects history. Shut your bum ass up, man. I'm so sick and tired. You guys are just as bad at cheaters and you just, we actually got caught. But I'm in Mayn-Frake, you get protected your ass.
Starting point is 01:19:09 Shut your bum ass up. I have zero respect for you Yankee fans. And I don't care if you listen to a 66WFAN. I'm telling you, you guys are just as guilty as everybody else. The Astros, just like Josh Redick on Twitter said yesterday, had a rat that out of them. Everybody else got lucky. So stop this. Well, it was not a 15-year thing.
Starting point is 01:19:29 You see, you're automatically guaranteeing that if the Astros would not have done things on a slide, which they did. Your team 101, shut your bum ass up, man. Shut your bum ass up, man. They did not cheat in 2019, so I don't know if he's bringing that up. And they did not cheat in the playoffs in 17. Carlos Correa said it was too loud. The playoff games were too loud, so their trash-Bit-Can banging scheme was not employed in the playoffs. Apparently they tried, which, you know, it's tough to say, well, we tried to cheat, but we couldn't.
Starting point is 01:20:05 But that's what happened. They weren't cheating in 2017, the playoffs. And they're cheaters before. and yeah you sent us the cheater Yankees yeah Carlos Beltran came over
Starting point is 01:20:16 he was living in your life he was like you guys are behind the times this is how we were rolling in Yankee in Yankeeville so to localize a little bit our buddy Adam Clinton who we love
Starting point is 01:20:31 uh oh what did he have to say about this well he used a phrase oh no that I want abolished okay is it a slur or something No. Okay. He says that the Astros are living rent-free in Brian Cashman's head. I, under every circumstance, want the phrase living rent-free out of our vernacular.
Starting point is 01:21:00 I think, you know, it's, yeah, I'm glad you brought this up, because I was thinking about this actually recently as well. And we do, we do need to have a discussion about the use of the term rent-free. because sometimes it is apt to use rent-free, which if those are you uninitiated, means I'm living rent-free in your head. That means you're thinking about me all the time, and I'm always on your mind. And so I think some people use it a little bit too much.
Starting point is 01:21:28 So I think the Astros were and have been living rent-free in the Yankees fans and Dodgers fans' heads. I would agree with that. But I'm just saying, let's think of a... a different name because I just don't like living rent-free. I see it all the time. It's overused. Like, for instance, I had somebody that was like, we brought up the LeBron stuff for a conversation piece.
Starting point is 01:21:50 He said, be better, Matthew. I hate be better. Okay. Yeah, I mean, I was talking, I think I said something to somebody about like the OU Sooners and somebody was like, yeah, the Sooners are living rent-free in your head. I was like, no, I was just making comment. Or I said something about the Cowboys, that's what it was. I think we hear on the Matt Thomas.
Starting point is 01:22:10 show with Ross will never utter that blank, blank, blank, is living rent-free and blank-blank-blank said. I will try to not, yeah. Because it's overused. People use it when it doesn't apply. Or do better. Or be better. I hate that to. You need to be better. No, that's a trigger for me.
Starting point is 01:22:26 I mean, sometimes it works. Like Taylor Mathis lives rent-free in your head. Yes, she does. Let's take a look at what she's doing. So sometimes it works. But I mean, let me see what she. But I'm with you. It's a little overused. I think misapplied so often.
Starting point is 01:22:45 She's a Cowboys fan, by the way. God, she's all over the place. She loves the Cowboys. Her favorite player is Anthony Rizzo on the World Series. These Twitter memes that say P-O-V, Euro, this or this or that. POV means point of view. It is your point of view. And they're not doing it from the person's point of view half the time.
Starting point is 01:23:05 They're getting that wrong. And that upsets me. Okay. I will never ever utter to you. I'm living rent-free in your head or this person's living rent-free in someone else's head. It's not going to do it.
Starting point is 01:23:19 Okay. Do we need to make a pledge? Not a pledge. I'm just not going to do it. Okay. Oh, I had another one for you. You do you. Oh, hate that.
Starting point is 01:23:27 You do you, Ross. Hmm. Interesting. So rent-free, be better. You do you. If you had to get rid of one of the three, never to be uttered by another human being on this earth. Which one would you choose?
Starting point is 01:23:41 Hmm. You know, there's another one that's overused. Player X went player X. Like Raphael Montero went Raphael Montero. What do you think that means? Brad on 790. What's the matter with you?
Starting point is 01:23:57 Brad. All those regulars that called your show for the Astros thinking they were going to go to the championship and I told you that predicted they should have got rid of Bregman at the trade deadline,
Starting point is 01:24:12 Can you imagine they'd have like four or five minor league studs, and they could still get Bregman? And what they do in the playoffs? Nothing. The Kukuchi trade? Nothing. He helped him get to the playoffs, but he didn't even get the pitch. So who won that? So Astro fans, you suck this year.
Starting point is 01:24:37 You were preposterous. You weren't nothing. And you remember Matt? remember matt you and i predict that yankees would go to the world series that's how i got we didn't even tell anybody shut their no he just won't you shut your bum ass up why would they have traded away alex bregman when they were down the stretch in an american league west race
Starting point is 01:24:59 and they did win the division and make the playoffs that is assinine that is so bum ass up man and kukuchi help them win the division because i don't want that triple a uh Toronto blue J pitcher. What's the guy's name? I haven't forgot. Jake Bloss. Jake Bloss. Go on Mr. 3 and a third. They don't need that. They wouldn't have got anywhere close to, they were 9-in-1 in game started
Starting point is 01:25:22 by him. And Jake-O-Rizzi couldn't bat his weight as a man. You know, come on now. Oh, Joey Lopifito, you mean? Yeah, what I say? Oh, God. You know what? See, this is why Brad should be banned. That was a waste. I would apologize for everyone for wasting two minutes of their time with hearing Brad talk.
Starting point is 01:25:38 Right. That seems fair. All right, 713-212-5-790. Josh and Felipe, hang tight. We'll get to you coming up in a matter of moment. 7-13-212-5-7-90. Starting point is 01:26:55 The Rockets open up their season tonight against the hated Charlotte Hornets 6 o'clock. Rockets launch pad, basically reading of the game notes from one Rossville oriel. Excuse me? You're not reading game notes? What game notes are there? They haven't played any games.
Starting point is 01:27:11 There's game notes. Yeah, but I mean, what's in there that's going to be useful? Well, we'll find out tonight when you read them at 6 o'clock on the air. That's not happening, Matthew. What is? Full breakdown of the upcoming season with predictions and talk, in-depth talk of schemes, and maybe a couple of highlights from the Raphael Stone interview. Okay, that sounds good.
Starting point is 01:27:32 I mean, he's the general manager of the freaking team. Yeah, I mean, it would be, frankly... He gave us great stuff, too. significantly better than you just running through notes. He sounds so pumped up about Shingoon and Gray and Jalen Green. I'm pumped up. I'm ready. Ready to go.
Starting point is 01:27:49 6.30, the network pregame show with Adam Wexler, and then he'll join me for the call at 7 o'clock tonight right here on Sports Talk 7.9. And you'll be doing the call-in show. Yeah, that's fine. I'm going to call in. I trust the people tonight. So you're saying don't call in. I'm trusting the people tonight.
Starting point is 01:28:09 All right. Friday? That's true. All right, 7.1. I'm going to definitely call you because I'm going to work on the airport. You get your tickets Friday? I forgot to ask you during the break. I was supposed to get him to stand.
Starting point is 01:28:22 Remember? Again? Do you want them? Well, don't worry about it. We'll talk about it. They're not my take. They're standing. They're like to try to get the MT plan.
Starting point is 01:28:34 I know kidding. 713-212-1-2-5-7-9. they Ross tell the folks about the new Texans linebacker they signed today. What's his name? Devin White. Devin White. Yes. Yes. Let's see. He was let go by the Tampa Bay, well, just not retained by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And then he was signed to a one year seven and a half million dollar deal
Starting point is 01:28:53 by the Philadelphia Eagles. They released him. And then now he has signed as a free agent with the Houston Texans. All right. Back on the field today, Kamari Lasseter. Henry Toa Toa Toa. Not there today. Al-Zish Al-Sarier. Toottoa is not? No, he's there. Okay, he is.
Starting point is 01:29:09 Let me tell you, sir. Marri Lasseter, Henry Toa, Toa, there. Okay, good. Not there. Robert Woods, Jimmy Ward, Al-Ziz Al-Shayr. Hmm. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 01:29:19 Feel good about that? Not really. Fernando Van Zuelan passed away at the age of 62. We'll have, believe it or not, on him coming up, 63. Coming up to him at 250. And Deonery Hopkins has been traded from Tennessee to Kansas City. Hmm. And he is 23rd on the all-time receiving yards list behind Art Monk.
Starting point is 01:29:42 Do you remember Art Monk when he played? No. Okay, I do. Yeah, okay. A legend of the game. Part of the fun bunch. Didn't people say he didn't deserve to be in the Hall of? Who was the one the receiver from the Steelers that people said they didn't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame?
Starting point is 01:29:55 Oh, Lynn Swan. That's one. Lin-Swan. 7-1-3-21-5-7-90. It says from non-swinger. Kingwood, I love that when it shows up. Josh on 790-207. And Josh, good afternoon. Good afternoon. Matt Ross, please forgive my tardiness for the shut your bum ass up. That's fine. We can do it.
Starting point is 01:30:14 Yep. Just real quick so we can move on. I wanted to squeeze this in there. You know, for a couple of years now, we've been listening to Brad. Talk about young studs, this and that. I'm starting to, you know, really wonder about his Google history, man. A bunch of young studs in there. So Brad, stuck it, shut your bum ass up. Wow. And Matt, last Thursday at 2.43 p.m. you said go Dodgers. So on behalf of the entire city of Houston,
Starting point is 01:30:40 we would respectfully like to tell you to shut your bum out. All right. Josh, don't hang up yet. I am giving you a ultimatum right here and right now at 207 p.m. You must. I know you're going to do this. You need damn straight. I was going to do this. You must say either let's go Dodgers or let's go Yankees.
Starting point is 01:31:00 What are you going to say? Let's go Dodgers. I see. No. Yeah. So shut your bum ass up then. Oh, look, us our buddy. Bradward on the Matt Thomas show with Frost.
Starting point is 01:31:13 Bradward, long time, no talk. How are things? Long time. Can you hear me? Yeah, we can hear you, Bradward. Well, well, well, look who chimes in. Biggest Yankee fan, Brad. Shut your bum ass up.
Starting point is 01:31:30 Yeah, Astros fans have become quite a. It's super cool. But the Astros will still have young stud. Colin Moran, if you ran the team, buddy. Brad, be better. Hey, Matt. Yes. Hello?
Starting point is 01:31:49 Be well. No, no, we're not doing the be-wells either. No more. Thank you, Bradward. Colin a little Royce White vernacular. Brendan McCurry, I think Bradward, I mean, while Brad in Spring Branch or Miami wherever the hell he is now. Right. Right.
Starting point is 01:32:05 He was a big tray cabbage guy. Yeah. So were you. Well, I was, it was a gut feeling. It was a horrific gut feeling. I was six down. By the way, Matt, you were asking about Devin White. Would you like his rankings? Pro football focus, Matt.
Starting point is 01:32:21 Okay, let's preface. People hate it. Pro football focus are by a bunch of virgins who study football. I imagine some of them are copulating. I would say less than 20% of those have been played. employees by pro football focus. That means they got a lot of time to watch football then. You're making my point.
Starting point is 01:32:38 They have more time to watch football because they ain't get no ass. Some people hate pro football focus and think their rankings are terrible. Who hates them? Some people. Can we just take them in the grain of salt? Is that okay? Whenever the grades agree with you, we you, then you love them when they disagree with you that you hate them. That's how it goes.
Starting point is 01:32:55 Got you. Laramie Tonso retweets him when they say he's one of the best past blockers. When they say he's best, one of the worst run blockers, he doesn't retweet them. I got you. I got you. I'm just going to go with the ranks. I'm 802 linebankers ranked in 2023. Yeah. Caleb, I'm sorry, Devin White was 80th.
Starting point is 01:33:16 Out of 82. Mm-hmm. 2020. Out of 81 qualifying linebackers. Seventy-fourth. Then why did Stan Norfolk want to make sweet love to him on his show today? 2021, 86 qualifying linebackers. Yes.
Starting point is 01:33:32 Enough snaps. 79th. Okay, this is not working well for us here. And there's your last three years of Devin White. And he tweeted, and I responded to his tweet, I was like, you know why. He's like, I don't understand. Why was he available? Why did the Buccaneers not resign him?
Starting point is 01:33:49 And then the Eagles signed him. And then he played in camp, but then he didn't make the team and hadn't seen a snap. And hasn't played. And then he's let go. And then he's on the market for a week. And then all wire is pro football focus. ratings aren't so good. Let's put it together, folks.
Starting point is 01:34:04 We don't need Colombo to crack this case. He's not very good. What is your expectations of Seth White? Devin. It doesn't matter. Devin White. We don't even know his names.
Starting point is 01:34:19 Name. I'm putting them in the pro. I'm a first team all pro. I dare two people to call in with a Devin White take. I literally dare Houston, Texas, to do that. Okay. We can do it. There's no possible way.
Starting point is 01:34:32 There's no way that two people can call 713-212-5-790 and give me a logical take on Devin White. We'll see what he can provide. He's a good pass rusher, but can't do much else. Even Bucking-Ire's fans on Twitter, let's just say they're not very happy with that overall. And hasn't hit a human being this year, at least on a football field. Not in a live action. Maybe in a bar, but that would be as far as it gets. 713-212-5-790 let's go to Felipe on the Matt Thomas show with Ross at 211 hi Felipe
Starting point is 01:35:05 afternoon guys hey Ross if you don't take them tickets from Matt then I will yeah I don't look at y'all Matt's got a long list of people and usually at the front of my list is Stan North Fleet yeah and you're probably like a dead last I didn't go to one game last year that's not true I gave you two years not once because every time I asked you're like oh Stan's got him Stan is on the Matt mini plan I'm pretty sure he just You know
Starting point is 01:35:34 Has a six game mini plan with Matt Thomas there I think it's a 22 He's getting my season ticket points Go ahead Oh wow No man actually To add a question to that one
Starting point is 01:35:45 Man I haven't even been to a Ruggins game since 2007 or eight What? Yeah it's been a while for me I'm actually trying to get my brother Some tickets and I'm going to probably take them Hopefully tonight or not Friday So I'm going to see
Starting point is 01:35:59 I just as a surprise him Yeah, quick quick take on this man I think the Rockets this year Will probably finish over 45 wins All right And I think Shangoon's got to be an all-star I would hope both happen Because if Shangoon's an all-star
Starting point is 01:36:17 That means the Rockets are probably pacing for 45 wins At least That's very, oh man I mean I think I'll go with the money line on that one And hopefully I can make that bet. I do think they'll do well this year. I'm actually going to be picking up on it because, you know, I don't
Starting point is 01:36:33 really watch the Rockets. I haven't going to watch them for the past few years. But as I've been listening, it is time. Now that I've been listening more 7 and 90, listen you guys more. I've actually listened a few games last year when Matt and I just discovered, hey, Matt was the voice of the rocket. There you go. Well, good. Tell your
Starting point is 01:36:49 friends. Tell your neighbors. Tell anybody at this point. Tell people that hate me. I don't care. They're looking to grow the show. Yeah. Grow the show. Grow my The longest running show on this station. Looking to grow. Oh, yeah. We were just talking about the old, what was the name of the show?
Starting point is 01:37:04 The Monsters of the midday. Monsters, oh, the midday. Some tough times of the old early days of 790. That's for sure. I didn't know any better. I started working that show anyways. 214 on Sports Talk 790. 713-212-5-790 if you want to get in.
Starting point is 01:37:20 713-212-5-7-90. Want to tell you about Uptown, Appliance repair. Something's not working in your house. Ice maker, refrigerator, washer dryer, any of the laundry components. Maybe the whole refrigerator is not getting the cold water that you need. This is where uptown appliance repair comes in. They said, look, Matt, don't have your audience spend all this extra money buying refrigerators when it's not needed.
Starting point is 01:37:49 We can repair them at a very affordable cost. And that's why you're going to call 281-758-9978. 281-758-9-9-78. Thousands of satisfied customers in a huge scenario, and they are BBBA-A-plus rated. Please take care of this family-owned and operated business. Starting point is 01:38:50 I would not recommend listening to dudes on dudes. Okay. Sorry, look at the acrobatic goal by Harry Kane, Matthew. Oh. Oh, such athleticism. Such amazing concentration. What a goal by. Buy on Munich.
Starting point is 01:39:08 There's nobody there. Why isn't the crowd is full? What are you talking about? That per deck looks empty. Or do they just covered up? I think your eyes are not functioning. Oh, okay. That's fine.
Starting point is 01:39:17 It's in Barcelona. Let me tell you. I'll say this. Even though soccer is a horrifically boring sport, every time he puts it on here, there is every seat in every game I've ever seen you put on them in the history of this show. We're working together. There's somebody in the chairs.
Starting point is 01:39:32 Look at them. I mean, it's jam-packed. in Barcelona versus Byron Munich. That place can hold an NFL game next year. They could. Yeah, the Camp New, as it is called. I think it holds like $70,000.
Starting point is 01:39:46 Yeah. What do you think of my take about yesterday that we're going to see every team play at least one international game per year. Wait, this is $99,000. What the heck? That'd be 16 minimum regular season games in overseas.
Starting point is 01:40:05 I guess it's going to be. happen eventually. I don't know. They've already got a stranglehold on America and you know they want more money. All these owners. That's why they get in this business for the most part. Oh yeah. That's why Cal's keeping it.
Starting point is 01:40:18 Yeah. It's why Hannah's demanding he's keeping it. He told Carrie McNary shut his bum ass up. He did. Hannah's like scoreboard, bitch. I married the right one. She did. Smart gal.
Starting point is 01:40:35 She's had many few missteps. Mm-hmm. Hannah don't miss. Is that what you're saying? I'm saying Hannah's, well, Hannah's sacrificing some things. I mean, general happiness probably. Oh, Matt. What?
Starting point is 01:40:49 I'm sure she's very happy in her day-to-day. Oh, and she's running things, yes. I'm sure that was the game playing. And I'm glad she wrestled control away from her husband. No, I mean, ever since she took over. Jack Easterby out of there. Yeah, no kidding. 713-212-570.
Starting point is 01:41:03 7-1-2-790. Alex and Conroll. Matt Thomas show with Ross. Hi, Alex. What's up, guys? Just two quick, two quick hits. So with the whole financial stress that the aftas are going through, why haven't, I mean, why haven't they tried to just restructure Montero and a braised contracts to where, you know, you just pay them out a little bit longer through the time, maybe shorter amount now, while this window's still open, that seems like it'd be pretty easy to do.
Starting point is 01:41:32 But I guess really what my question is, if they were able to restructure those contracts, Would the new number apply to the salary cap or it can still be the original? No, they don't do it that way. Those dollars will be attached to every year of that contract. They could pay them $50,000 a year for the rest of their life or $3 million. It doesn't affect it. When you sign a contract that the contract lengthen dollars for each particular year are put into the database, and that's why they figure out the competitive balance.
Starting point is 01:42:03 Yeah, for example, like when they traded for Zach Grinke and Arizona sent money, Arizona sent money. That still goes, the full contract goes on. Same thing with Justin Verlander and the Mets. Right. Even though JV. was only being paid partly by the Astros, his entire
Starting point is 01:42:19 contract amount was on the Rockets or on the Astros books. Okay, so you're married to that original number. Yes. Regardless how you pay it out. Second question. Yesterday, y'all were kind of going through this little moment where you were discussing these segments. I think
Starting point is 01:42:35 it'd be really hilarious if you started an M-I-D-A-Hole segment where a caller can call in and get you know, get a survey on whether or not they are the A-Hole. You know, it's funny. We've talked about this before.
Starting point is 01:42:50 Ross and I talked about this, and thank you for the phone call. And that's a pretty popular social media. It's Reddit. Reddit has a A-I-T-A, and it's extremely popular. The problem we kind of, the roadblock is we were kind of brainstorming that, or it was your idea, I think, Matt. was trying to get people,
Starting point is 01:43:11 we would have to vet the calls. Because honestly, I mean, have you heard Braddon call? Like, we need people who are going to, it's got to be good content from the callers. And that's hard to vet beforehand. The easy thing would be for us to say, are we, you the a-hole, Ross, or are you the A-Hole Matt? But usually the answer is yes.
Starting point is 01:43:31 And so our egos are gentle. No. And I don't want to be called an A-Hole on a weekly basis. Just daily. I mean, I get it at home all the time. So we were trying to think of figure out a way to get good entries, I guess, from people, whether via email or Twitter, and then we could vet them that way. I don't know. I don't know how exactly we could make it work.
Starting point is 01:43:53 The reason why we decided not to do it immediately was because, again, there may be a long story to it. Yeah. I think if we just let people, a free-for-all of people calling in with their, am I the A-hole stuff, they could have a very high ceiling but also very low. Yeah, you'd have to basically just tell us whatever you wanted to tell us in about two sentences. Yeah, and not be, yeah. Because some of those posts on that Reddit are like their novellus. Yeah, we've thought about this. Don't worry.
Starting point is 01:44:20 We're always trying to do interesting things in the show because it's mostly Matt. God Lord, do you want to really break down backup linebackers for three hours on a show? We can go Devin White's PFF grades again if you'd like. By the way, did I not demand the two people calling him with Devin White calls? How many do we get? It didn't work. I don't know. I'm sorry. Yesterday, I said no one's driving cars over from 2009.
Starting point is 01:44:44 I only had 25 people. I know the pulse of the show. You do? Nobody wants to talk about Devin White. Trust me on this. Some people do. I hope Clinton and Wexler, God love him, don't get into a deep dive on Devin White. Oh, Devin White will be mentioned on that show.
Starting point is 01:45:02 I just, you know what? If he gets two sacks this week? We'll look 24-7 on Devin White. But right now, sight unseen, you've given the PFF grades. They ain't great. And read the T-leaves. Like I said, the grades aren't everything. Grades are a lot of though.
Starting point is 01:45:21 Buccaneers didn't resign them. Remember, these are men that are scouting these things on PFF that are not having sex. So what are they going to do? Last time I checked, the Philadelphia Eagles don't have the most dominant defense in the league. Although they did just crush the Cleveland. But also, that's because James Winston and Dorian Tom. Thomas Robinson and well Sean wants a terrible
Starting point is 01:45:38 too. All right. We're going to run through some other headlines so we come back 227. Believe it or not today is all things
Starting point is 01:45:41 about Fernando Valenzuela. I would have to say Rossi, a top five favorite pitcher of mine as I was a kid. Really?
Starting point is 01:45:51 I'm going to be my quick list. This is under 15 years of age. Nolan Ryan won. Okay. Fernando Valenzuela 2. Uh-huh. Any of the Nicos I'll put Joe and Phil
Starting point is 01:46:03 in the same category because I love the knuckle ball. I'll put that at 3A and 3B. Guy named Gene Garber, who was a reliever for the Atlanta Braves, was a sidearm. Throw at a very awkward motion.
Starting point is 01:46:14 Okay. And also the Mad Hungarian, Hal Roboski, who was a brave and a Cardinal. And he'd go and warm up his pitches, and then he would step off the mount and just scream and yell at the very end before he got back on the mound.
Starting point is 01:46:29 They called him the Mad Hungarian. I'll take your word for it. So those are my five. Okay. You want my five at then when I was 15? Real quick. Shane Reynolds. Oh.
Starting point is 01:46:39 Mike Hampton. Okay. Pedro Martinez. Yeah. Greg Maddox. Oh, Zay Lima. Not a bad group right there. Let's go.
Starting point is 01:46:46 Let's go. 228. Sports Talk, 790. 719. 713. 212. 570. 713.
Starting point is 01:46:52 212. Randy Johnson. Never mind. Put Randy Johnson there somewhere. You were 15 and under then? 98 was the trade. I was 13. God, we have a difference in age.
Starting point is 01:47:04 It makes me sad. I'm glad because you will always be older than me. significantly older. There's no way in catch up. Connor makes me feel old. Because he's like, what's up, dog? What's busting, dog? And I'm like, what are you talking about?
Starting point is 01:47:15 You don't say what's busting, do you? I don't ever have heard you ever say what's bough. He's like, y'all got to get to break, no cap. And I'm like, what are you talking about, Connor? Connor, do I have drip? And Riz? Neither. How can I get some Riz and some drip?
Starting point is 01:47:32 Well, I don't know if you really need Riz because you're married. Okay. And drip. Maybe just, maybe not sweatpants in the quarter zip. Maybe switch it up a little bit. I love the quarter zip. I live for the quarter zip. You and the mannings.
Starting point is 01:47:47 Peyton Manning and Eli Manning love the quarter zip on Manningcast. I would live in a quarter zip. Which, by the way, I love Manningcast. On Mondays now when Bill Belichick comes on every first half, it's great. By the way, it's such a fraud. He hated the media and now he's in the media.
Starting point is 01:48:00 You know what, Bill Belichick? Shut your bum ass up, mate. You know what Bill Belich said? They cut that check and he likes them a lot better. Yeah, he's such a fraud. He's almost as fraudulous as you are. It's almost as fraudulous as the word fraudulous. Fraudulous still works.
Starting point is 01:48:14 It's not a word. It sounds good though. 713212-5-790. 7-13-212-5-790. I'm Matt. He's the fraud. And this is Sports Talk 790 with a word here for Berkeley Eye Center. Well, right now you can get 30% off your LASIC laser prescription, or procedure, I should say.
Starting point is 01:48:32 If you call 713-526 eyes and mention me, Matt Thomas. hey, Matt said I get 30% off, and they'll set you up to visit with one of the doctors, and make sure you're a candidate for LASIC laser vision correction. Get rid of those subscriptions for contacts, cleaning solutions, new prescriptions, new glasses. Just get clear, natural vision, and you can do that today with Berkeley Eye Center. 713, 526Eyes, 30% off, plus they'll make it tax-free if you have an HSA or FSA account. 713-526 I's for that free consultation, but you got to mention me, Matt Thomas, in order to get that 30% discount. All from Berkeley Eye Center, 713-526, EY, yes.
Starting point is 01:49:22 Eric Gordon just put on his Instagram account, his year 17 in the NBA of the Philadelphia 76 was, and I just texted him. I said, damn you old, and he's crying, crying emoji. EG, still making it good money. Now in Philadelphia. They really got the band back together, Daryl Moore. over there. Is Daniel House Jr. still over there?
Starting point is 01:49:43 Daniel, excuse me? I think it's Daniel. He said it. We had the liners, and he said Daniel. Hey, everybody. Like,
Starting point is 01:49:50 we're going to hear it tonight on the Rockets launch pad. Hey, it's Alperin Shingoon. Hey, it's Daniel House. Like, he said Daniel House. It was his words. I know. I know.
Starting point is 01:50:00 It's Reed Shepherd. I've got the mustache of an off-Gedy cop. When Daniel retires, like super retires, I'm going to ask him about what happened in Orlando. What are you talking about? Remember? He got in trouble?
Starting point is 01:50:15 Oh, don't we know? We sort of know, but I want to get it right from the... When he's sleeping with the nurse? I want to know exactly who it was, and why couldn't he just relax? He's it in his pants. Sometimes a moment strikes, Maddie. I guess that's what happened with Daniel House Jr. Here's your food.
Starting point is 01:50:34 He got kicked out of the bubble, right? Here's how it worried. The nurse comes to the door. Yes. I got to swab you. Here's some food. What's up, girl? He did some swabbing of his own.
Starting point is 01:50:42 And then she went in there and swabbed him. All the good old days of COVID. That was, yeah, the bubble. What a time. What a, I called a year of basketball off of the Jumbotron on Rocket Road games. I was in the arena. Being in the Toyota Center empty at night at 1130 at night calling a Rockets Kings game, Uber surreal.
Starting point is 01:51:07 That is weird. It was weird. They never had one case of COVID in that. in that bubble, right? Everybody was sanitizing and washing and cleansing and their peas and cues and well, except Daniel House wasn't in that nurse. Yeah. Let's go to Anthony and Deer Park on 790-236.
Starting point is 01:51:26 Anthony, good afternoon. Hey, good afternoon, guys. Hey, a few weeks ago I called in, said that my gut filling was that the Rockets would be a playoff team this year. And I just wanted to call and reiterate that since they tip off tonight. And I also think that Reed Shepherd will win rookie of the year. I did have a question for y'all. Did y'all watch the Celtics and Knicks game last night?
Starting point is 01:51:52 You mean the three-point barrage over and over again? Yes. So I wanted to make a statement, and if I'm wrong, I would love for y'all to correct me. But I think that Jason Tatum is the best player in the world, and I don't think it's particularly close. Well, he looked like it last night. I know he had eight made threes in the first three quarters. How many did he end up making?
Starting point is 01:52:14 He was 8 for 11 from 3 and there was a point in the game where Jericho Sims was like right in his grill and he hit a step back 3 and you could just see Jericho Sims body language just, I mean it was like
Starting point is 01:52:27 what you can't guard him he's nearly unguarable he's got the best handles in the league he can pass he was down in the paint block and shots good defender to me he does it all I'm still sticking with Nicolioch I think but Tatum's in the
Starting point is 01:52:43 conversation. Tatum wakes up scoring 25 points a game. For me, watching it's effortless. I think he put up 38. Yeah. To basically tie an NBA record for three-pointers in the first game of the year,
Starting point is 01:52:57 I mean, they're not if you watch any of that game last night, you're like, who the hell's going to beat them in a seven-game series? I mean, really, that's what you thought. That's what I thought. Yeah. Maybe a healthy I think healthy bucks might be sneaky. But you're,
Starting point is 01:53:13 We said that for the last couple years. And can Doc Rivers lead a team of the championship? Thanks for the call. Well, he has before. 16 years ago. Well, yeah, he was also given three of the best 75 players in the world. That's correct. They jell together in one year.
Starting point is 01:53:26 That was their first year together. They won a championship. Yeah. Although Andrew Bynum was hurting those 08 finals, man, as you remember. Okay. So if the Rockets aren't making the NBA finals, which hopefully they're not making the NBA finals. I think it's going to be hard to beat Boston in the East.
Starting point is 01:53:41 the West, I want to give you somebody sneaky. Like Dallas last year was sneaky. I'm going to go keep it simple, stupid method. Denver. Denver. The team that knocked them out was built to beat them with the twin towers of Goberra, Carl Anthony Towns. Carl Anthony Towns is now in New York, Nick. It's Denver's conference to lose, in my opinion.
Starting point is 01:54:08 I hate to say it, but I think you're absolutely right. I think we're going to see Denver v. Boston, which is from the finals. ESPN recently released their top 100 players in the NBA. they had Yokic, Donchich, then Janice. That's 1, 2, 3, non-Americans. Sheigel, Alexander, Canadian? Canadian, 4. Jason Tatum.
Starting point is 01:54:28 Number one American player. So they had Tatum 5. Curry, 6? No, this is 2024? Come on. This is 2024. That seems a little much. I mean, we appreciate everything stuff done, but.
Starting point is 01:54:41 Greatest jump shooter of all time. Greatest shooter of all time. And even close, in my opinion. Yep. So there you go. Then they have Yeah, Steph 6, LeBron's 7. LeBron is not 7.
Starting point is 01:54:54 He shouldn't be. He shouldn't be ahead of Joel Lindb who's 8. Kevin Durant 9. Anthony Edwards 10. That's your top 10. You know what? If you only want to go to a team that could be sneaky good, if healthy. But that same situation. New Orleans.
Starting point is 01:55:09 Ooh. If your boy, Zion plays over 70. Zion plays more than 70. Brandon Ingram plays over 70. Yeah. Dejante Murray is there now. They got a good squad. They lost Valenciennes.
Starting point is 01:55:20 Who's their big man? Oh, it's Hartnstein. Isn't it? No, he's Oklahoma City. Oklahoma City. I'm getting these mixed up. Who is there, big man? I just called their game in the night.
Starting point is 01:55:31 Yeah, I know. All these teams running together. Jackson Hay is still there? Is he hurt? I don't remember. Who plays the five for the New Orleans? Herb Jones. Oh, Herb Jones is a good, all defensive team player.
Starting point is 01:55:45 they have Herb Jones Herb Jones is a wing I thought He's listed as their center No there's no way he's playing five ESPN has them listed on the depth chart As their center So name their centers real quick Zion Williamson
Starting point is 01:55:55 Okay and Yvese Missy Misi first round pick out of Baylor Yeah they got issues Okay forget what I said We'll pump the brakes of the Pelicans Pump the brakes But I mean
Starting point is 01:56:07 Murray McCollum Ingram Williamson Is a pretty solid one through four Yeah All right couple of the quick headlines Before we get to believe it or not We mentioned the chiefs are finalizing a trade for DeAndre Hopkins. Does that add another layer to their awesomeness? He's a possession receiver at this point, right?
Starting point is 01:56:25 He's not what he once was. We'll see if he can be revitalized. It's more of Rishi Rice is down. Juju Smith. Schuster's hurt and not very good. He's smart move by them. I mean, they've been rolling with Mikhail Hardman. Xavier Worthy is good, but he's just, he's downfield.
Starting point is 01:56:41 He's not working short area stuff and getting open. of the field right now. They use them on jet sweeps. He's kind of like in a way they're Tank Dell. Okay. Although, I think quite frankly, take Del's better than Xavier Worthy at this point. Well, Tank needs to have a big week.
Starting point is 01:56:54 Yeah. This will be the week that he's going to... He got like a bunch of targets. He dropped that one drop in the end of the end up. He dropped the touchdown. I believe in Tank Dell. Let's say. I do too.
Starting point is 01:57:03 All the thing I worry about Tank Dell is size. But about ability, I don't worry about. A couple of things. James Winston's going to start this week for the Browns against Ravens. I got a hot takey question. a thought. They're going to get better. We ever see Deshawn Watson play again for the Browns? There are people, I think it, was it Schifter?
Starting point is 01:57:20 I don't want to talk out of school. I'm not totally sure. Somebody was speculating that he could be done, which seems insane because all of his money's guaranteed. What kind of cap hitter they've taken if he doesn't play? Horrendous. Yeah. Like, like, like, franchise futility for multiple years. Like it's time to rebuild. Right, right, right.
Starting point is 01:57:39 the Utah Jazz ownership willing to help BYU get a player and you mean by willing to help meaning NIL money millions of dollars what's that player's name he's like the number one recruit in the country AJ
Starting point is 01:57:54 DiBanza yeah he's apparently like if he could go straight to the NBA he'd be a first round pick and I'm hearing between three and a half and four million dollars who good for him let's go let's get the check together
Starting point is 01:58:08 Let me chase a day. Get them to Texas. If BYU is cutting three and a half to four million dollars check, you know where that money is coming from? The church. They lost their coach, right? Didn't their coach go to Kentucky? Was their coach?
Starting point is 01:58:18 Mark Pope? No, never mind. Who went to Kentucky? Was it to BYU? No, it was a... Who was a Kentucky coach? Oh, man. I know Calapari is in Arkansas now, which is weird.
Starting point is 01:58:28 Yeah, Mark Pope. Yeah, Mark Pope went to Kentucky. Was he at BYU? Or where was he? I want to say he was at BYU. I don't follow BYU. basketball what we're talking about? Yeah, he was at BYU.
Starting point is 01:58:42 Okay, I don't know who their coach is now, but they've been good. They were good under Mark Pope. I don't know who they got now. Three and a half to four million dollars. He's down to seven schools. Houston, one of them? No. Damn. Alabama.
Starting point is 01:58:54 Auburn, Baylor, Baylor, BYU, Kansas, Kansas State, and North Carolina. And that sounds like to me that's going to be which one of the seven can give us the most NIL dollars. He has taken official visit to Auburn, has seen BYU unofficially. By the back, a little small thing. You know, Texas? My daughter was on an official visit at school.
Starting point is 01:59:14 Okay. And she was with girls that were on unofficials. They, if you're on an unofficial, you can't do some things that official visits can do. Yeah. Which I think is, it's kind of exclusionary. I didn't think it was very cool at all. Hmm. Oh, was it like elitist?
Starting point is 01:59:29 Like, get out of here, unofficials. Like they couldn't feed them. Yeah, they have to pay for their own way to get there, right? It's just weird. You got to pay for your? Now, that's one thing, paying your own way. But, like, it was time to look at the game film. They couldn't look at that.
Starting point is 01:59:42 Really? Couldn't be in the locker room before the game, or my daughter could be. I felt bad for those people that were not able to do that. All right. 713-212-5-7-9.
