Starting point is 00:00:00 is the Matt Thomas show with Ross. 10 o'clock at H-town. Good morning and welcome to a Wednesday edition of the Matt Thomas show with Ross from Denver. This is Sports Talk 790. Being on some cheers, shit, we go zero to a hundred quick, real quick. Center, it's a rocket's win. Final score, Houston 113 and Toronto, 99.
Starting point is 00:00:36 Oh, is there not a better way to wake up? Houston, Texas, was in Greek. Let's go, baby. Song after 1976. Well, that's two this week. Hey, you back off. You know, Neil Sedaka died last week. We didn't even bring that up.
Starting point is 00:00:55 Oh, no. I know. Is that believe it or not today? No, we don't have believe it or not today. Oh, okay. But tomorrow we do. Oh, you don't know. Friday you do.
Starting point is 00:01:05 May Neil rest. Oh, yeah, you're off tomorrow. Yeah. Good morning, by the way. Ooh, Lordy. Hey, Maddie, how you doing? How's that Mountain Time treating you? You're all right.
Starting point is 00:01:14 You're fine. Mountain time's great. It's a great time zone, but you should be playing back-to-backs against them. You're off the show in two hours, and you're in beautiful Denver. That is true. Man, you know what? And I shouldn't speak this into existence, but this is a four-hour day kind of content. Content day, isn't it not?
Starting point is 00:01:33 I mean, there's a lot going on. Absolutely. We're going to cuss, we're going to discuss Texans offensive line additions. You don't do that? You'll break that down, Cousinscass? Yeah, why not? That's fine.
Starting point is 00:01:45 Who cares? Offensive line, just to protect the quarterback. That's all. Nobody knows who these people are. Just protect the quarterback. Let's get our C-J straw back. Let's get our mojo back. Let's go.
Starting point is 00:01:55 Let's get our mojo back. I mean, we cared when the guys were good, when it was Dwayne Brown. Oh, hell yeah, we did. Chris Myers, so we need to care. Yeah, we love Eric Winston. We did. Mike Brysell, if you will. absolutely but these jimokes ain't doing squat hey come on don't use that word jimokes
Starting point is 00:02:10 is that a bad word no it's fine okay i don't want to use i have a client and used it where they was talking about the celtics and he got him in trouble with eric and providence oh we don't need eric and providence calling the show today all right rossi we get a lot of things to get to i mean short period of time we have brian bogus ethics going to join us at 11 o'clock today we're a season debut of the brian bogus epic segment let's go every wednesday's primarily on here on sports talk 790. We have shut your bum ass up today at 1130. We are out at 1155 because the Astros are going to take on.
Starting point is 00:02:43 I'm going to guess the Marlins when in doubt. It's a Marlins of Nationals or somebody else like that. The Marlins is correct. At the Marlins. Ooh, it's at the Marlins. You have to forget about the spring training records at that point. Next game, home for the Senators. I mean, wait.
Starting point is 00:03:00 Nationals. Senators. It's not crazy. That's not crazy. at all. Whatever. National. All right.
Starting point is 00:03:08 Let me just give you everything that's on my little, you know, I still these notepat and I steal them. They're given to me by the hotel. No, you're stealing. No, I don't, because they're there for you for use. Not stealing. Extras maybe, but not stealing. Rockets beat the Raptors last night.
Starting point is 00:03:24 The tissues are there for you use, but you take a box from every place. You're stealing. No, I don't steal tissues. Okay, you just use a few. Maybe. Rockets beat the Raptors. Rockets play the Nuggets tonight. Yes.
Starting point is 00:03:36 We have Bamata Bio scoring 83 points. Oh my gosh. America is split on this big time. Split, split, split. We have What the hell happened at Diken Park yesterday? Italy beat the United States? Yes.
Starting point is 00:03:52 Even when I started to finally embrace the WBC that our American team let us down? Josh Hater? Some people are blaming you. I'm not going to do that, Matt. What would I? What could I possibly have done? Do you mean to embrace America, this greatest country we live in with the greatest state of the country?
Starting point is 00:04:12 You know, the greatest state in our union. Of course, Texas. That's the reason why I represented as well as I do. It's a Zach Dzenzo and the boys. Oh, Zach a DeCenzo. Hey, we beat the team USA. And now the manager, Pablo Precioni. He's a, he's a March, Tini.
Starting point is 00:04:32 Not that we stereotype on this show. Oh, we don't. It's one of our show. We would never do this. We would never say the pasta. And then it past Latino. As somebody pointed out, a lot of these guys, almost all the whole team, is American-born. Is it good at Jones?
Starting point is 00:04:48 It's basically like the American C-Squod beat America. Oh. Do we need some more Neil Diamond to get us fired up? No, no. We didn't have, nobody's there. Nobody needs to answer yes to the question. Do we need some more Neil Diamond? America loves Neil Diamond.
Starting point is 00:05:02 America Treas. Yeah, yeah. Octogenarians. Okay, so here's the problem. He's popular in the retirement castle. So now we're going to have to watch the other game today to see what's going on, to see if the U.S. gets eliminated because of the run differential or whatever. It's out of our hands, Ross.
Starting point is 00:05:20 How can we live America without our WPC dot going on to the doggia? How can they be three and one and not eligible? I don't know. It happens. Probably should have done some homework on the WPS. Yeah, I guess I should have. No, I'm throwing myself on the best one for that one. So I guess because Brazil's so horrible.
Starting point is 00:05:42 Brazil's 0 and 4, and Great in Britain's 1 and 3. So you can end up with 3, 3 and 1 teams. Tiebreakers do count. It's like, you know, it happens all the time in the volleyball competitive world, my friend. I'm used to these things. Okay. You know. We have a Josh Hater update to get to today on the show.
Starting point is 00:06:01 Lovely. We have the Texans overhauling their punting game, I guess. Okay. And making Kami Fairbair. Remember when Kami Fairbair was like a top five paid kicker about five or six years ago? And people were like, what do you do? Paying him, got crazy money. You're paying him so much money now.
Starting point is 00:06:18 He's now the top kicker in the NFL. And I guess for as big of a part of an offense as he is for the Texans, that's good money spent, right? Yeah, he's their MVP. That is true. That is honestly the truth. That's the signing of the off season. Yeah, Kimey Fairbairn might get in there. Just don't put his whole name in there.
Starting point is 00:06:35 Andre Johnson, J.J. Watt. Cal McNair. No, no. Janice. Wait, Bob's in there. Janice is in there. Bob and Janice are in there.
Starting point is 00:06:44 And that's going to be Kemi Fairbair. That's going to take up like 25 yards of field, right? Or the space. Last candidate, Kerry McNair. Not going to make it. I don't think Carrie's getting in. I don't think he is.
Starting point is 00:06:56 I don't think Carrie's invited to Toro Town. He's been excommunicated from Toro District. When you have Toro Town, you have all these spots. I like using. Toro District because it sounds so horrible and dumb. Yeah, I don't know what people are going to call it. It's like when somebody in high school gives themselves a nickname and it's terrible and you keep calling them that nickname.
Starting point is 00:07:19 Like Bulldog. Yeah, tubular Todd. Okay. Todd. I don't know. Yeah. Toro Town. It sounds better.
Starting point is 00:07:27 Torotown sounds better. Toro District sounds so bad I want to keep using it. Okay. We can do that. I'm still going to claim at Toro Town because if anybody says it calls a Toro Town, they'll it from me because nobody else calls a Torotown except me. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:07:41 So what do you want to start? I mean, I give you a plethora of things. Do you want to go to Bamford? Bam, as in B-A-M as a B-A-M as a B-A-M-O-O-B-E-Las. Oh, let's do it. Bam-first, I got you. You blipped out for a seconds. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:07:56 So, bam. Look, I didn't see any of it, obviously, because I was calling the Rockets Raptors game. And it wasn't on national TV because I'm assuming that Washington versus Miami was not available except for. those people in those markets unless you were like a direct TV NBA league pass subscriber and I wouldn't think that's not even on the agenda. It is a polarizing conversation with respected people I like in the basketball world, people I do not respect in basketball.
Starting point is 00:08:28 I've actually gone back and forth in my opinion about it. And I had a poll question that had a really dominant result early on. It has such changed since I put it out at about 1.45 this morning. I can be convinced of the other direction on this, Ross, but the general fence-setting philosophy I have about this is two things. Okay. One, to score 83 points takes incredible athleticism. I mean, you're just physically on the court, shooting shots, free throws, three-pointers, field goals.
Starting point is 00:09:01 But it's still gimmicky, really gimmicky. All the free throws and on top of the fact, and IMA Adoka said it best last night after the game. It's the Washington Wizards who are uber tanking. I mean, it's the Washington Wizards are the most embarrassing franchise in the NBA and had been that way for about 20 years. So if this was against even like a team like Charlotte who's playing better, or maybe a Chicago or Minnesota,
Starting point is 00:09:28 maybe you give a little more credence to it. But it's the, it's the Wizards, Ross. And it's a goof. And they were shooting, I mean, how do you go to the free throw line? 43 times in a game without it being largely manufactured. I saw a video that had all the foul calls, and they looked all pretty legit. There wasn't a ton of foul baiting.
Starting point is 00:09:50 I mean, there were some, but, I mean, if you're going to get to the free throw line that much, the Wizards were fouling him. And it's the Wizards things. I don't care about that either. So what? The Rockets played the Wizards like a week and a half ago or whatever. They beat them by five.
Starting point is 00:10:06 The Rockets' leading score in that Wizards game was Alperin Shingon with 32. So he's 50 points off of Bam out of bio. So yeah, it's the Washington Wizards and they're not good. But people are playing bad teams in the NBA every single night. And they're not scoring 83 points. So that to me is a bad argument as far as trying to tear down the accomplishment. Yeah, I'm just going to say it this.
Starting point is 00:10:30 Bam's a good NBA score. But he's never been considered elite NBA score. Is that fair to say? Yes. I mean, Kobe, putting up 81. I mean, Kobe's had 60-point games. Kobe's had 50-point games. I don't have the BAM numbers in front of me,
Starting point is 00:10:46 but how many 40-plus games is BAM had his NBA career? I don't know. Such a one-off. That's the reason why, to me, there's a little gimmicky to it. One of the craziest things would be Corey Brewer's 50-point game against the Rockets. Like, Corey Brewer could get out of nowhere getting 50. This is like far surpassing that.
Starting point is 00:11:05 Because, yeah, Bamadabio is not a scoring champion. I mean, Wille Chamberlain was a scoring champion. He averaged 50 points a game that year that he scored 100. It makes sense. That's what kind of makes this special to me. I think my initial reaction was to kind of try to tear this down. And the one big counter argument would be that the heat were fouling, the Wizards at the end of the game, to try to get banned the ball back.
Starting point is 00:11:29 Yeah, so again, what I cannot answer, because I'm all looking at highlights, because obviously I was working the Rockets game last night. Was there a concerted attempt? to pad the numbers, and I don't think the answer can be no to that. There was a concerted effort to get him to a higher number. He wasn't organically just killing it. So I would lean Rossi 55-45. This is the Wizards, and it's stat padding.
Starting point is 00:11:54 But, again, I could be easily convinced the other direction. This is special. This is an all-time. We can talk about the Wizards. We can talk about whatever. It's going in the history books. I made the analogy last night in the post game. You can talk about cheating scandal all you want.
Starting point is 00:12:07 You go with the history. book and you look for 2017 World Series Champion, it says Houston Astros there. You look for the history book and you look for highest scoring game. It says, bam, out of bio there. And yeah, the fouling was crazy. That happened at the end of the Wilts Chamberlain game. Where both
Starting point is 00:12:22 sides were fouling a bunch to where they got him to 100. So, yeah, if you want to go ahead and raise a stink and say, well, Wilt Chamberlain shouldn't have 100 points. And we could say that and that can be true. The Kobe Bryant one was pretty legitimate, but they were just getting him the ball. He was shooting up against
Starting point is 00:12:37 double and triple teams. I actually went on YouTube and I watched the whole every basket scored by Kobe in that game just because I was curious. Which by the way, if he took a, if he had a step back on a couple of long twos, he could have had 85. But anyways, I digress. So, yeah,
Starting point is 00:12:54 it wasn't within the rhythm of the game. It's never in the rhythm of a game for anyone to score 80 points, ever. Ever. Unless your hand of the ball to Reggie Miller and every time the ball leaves his hands is going in front. Yeah, unless it's the All-Star game. Yeah. And, and, uh, I think somebody brought up, like, Luca's 70 points game was pretty well in the rhythm of the game. He only took, like, I don't know, or it was like 30 shots or something like that,
Starting point is 00:13:15 and he was just on fire and made a bunch of threes. So by like effective field goal percentage and stuff like that, the Luca 70 point game, but we're not looking at an effective field goal percentage. I understand we, and I'm going to talk about you, Matt, but just in general, we like to tear things down as soon as they happen. I was one of them. I was like, oh, they were fouling for it. But then I'm like, you know what?
Starting point is 00:13:34 They did it in the Chamberlain game, and nobody's going to score eight. Nobody's going to be like, man, that was a smooth, natural 80-point game. That's not going to ever happen. Maybe when you score above 65, there's going to be a scent of gimmick. Absolutely, you're going to be pushing for more and you're going to push for 70. I don't know. I don't have video of David Thompson's 70-point game. I don't know what he did in that one.
Starting point is 00:13:55 But Kobe was absolutely forcing shots and jacking up shots over two and three defenders. And Bam, out of Bio, they were trying to get him the points, and he got there. And the Washington Wizards have played. 60 whatever games this year and this is the first guy to score 80 on them. To my knowledge it's the first guy to score 70 on him. Well, it's the first time since 06 we've got a number this high. I mean, it's been
Starting point is 00:14:16 Walt, Kobe, and now, Bam. All right, poll question is up. Bam, out of bio's 83 points on Tuesday. It's on my Twitter account. Wow just wow or it was the Wizards meh. 55% say it was the Wizards may 45% say wow just wow. Again, it's up just
Starting point is 00:14:32 just trying to figure it out. But it certainly made things in the NBA very interesting. It did for sure. 713, 212.159. 7.1.3-212-0-790. I'm here in Denver for Rockets and Nuggets tonight. Ross back in Houston. Brian Bogus-Civ with us coming up at 11 o'clock.
Starting point is 00:14:48 We have a Josh Hater update next. I'm here in Denver for Rockets Nuggets tonight. We'll have it for you with the launch pad. 8 o'clock. Tip time is at 9 o'clock an hour later tonight for that. World Baseball Classic back underway tonight. If Mexico beats Italy and Mexico scores 5. or more runs, U.S. advances.
Starting point is 00:15:09 So does Italy. If Mexico scores four runs or less, U.S. is not advanced. If Italy wins against Mexico, U.S. advances. So go Italy? I guess. Hope Target Scoobles okay. He was a mess.
Starting point is 00:15:27 Or everybody can just go home. You can get back to spring training. Josh, hitter update coming up in a few minutes. Let's talk to Koso on 7. On A. Koso, good morning to you. Good morning, guys. I just wanted to quickly brush up on what happened last night. I think both things can be true, where it was a historic game,
Starting point is 00:15:46 and at the same time, kind of gimmicky with 46-3 throws against the lizards, but at the same time, it's an NBA team. You've got to play who's in front of you. I think, or I fall on it, it's always cool to witness sports history. I mean, I'm a sicko. I have NBA League pass, but I was watching the Rockets on the big screen, and had the heat game on my phone. And once the Rockets kind of put it away,
Starting point is 00:16:10 I just kind of focused on the heat game. And it was crazy. It was just free throw after free throw. And I thought they were going to take him out before he reached Covys, but he's not Jason Tatum, so he doesn't care. So he passed him. I thought it was great. I thought it was always fun to be part of history.
Starting point is 00:16:26 I love to hear what you guys think about it. And you'll have a great day. Go Rockets. Thank you, Koso. Yeah, again, it's not one of those arguments, Ross, I came with fire and brimstone with you today. I guess I can see both sides of this. Have a strong take, Matt.
Starting point is 00:16:41 I need strong takes. You have to be smarter than everyone else in the room. All right. No, that's okay, Matt. We're not on first take, so we're good. You can be honest and fluid in your opinion and you don't have to just
Starting point is 00:16:54 have an opinion and then burrow with it for the rest of your life because you're on TV, so it's fine. Really quick again, my thought is 83 is a physical achievement. It's hard to play NBA basketball, run up and down the floor for as many minutes you do and do what you do, you get you three points, okay? That to me is incredible. It's hard to score in the NBA.
Starting point is 00:17:15 It just is. But I do take points off of the big board for a number of free throws, the way it got kind of super gimmicky towards the end. And the opponent is, again, I know it's an NBA team, but it's really Ross not an NBA team. It's a team that cannot wait for the season to end, and they are praying for any one of the top five picks in the NBA draft. It's not an NBA team. It's a G-League team. Yeah, I mean, well, the 2006 Raptors were terrible.
Starting point is 00:17:43 Yeah, that's true. That's true. So, I mean, again, that one to me is the weakest counter argument, but the fouling, the fact that the heat were fouling to get banned the ball, that certainly is the gimmicky part of it, for sure. But again, I've watched this video. I just retweeted this video. of all the fouls.
Starting point is 00:18:02 There's a couple of soft fouls in there, but for the most part, he was just driving to the basket and getting hacked. So he had to go to the free throw line, and of course he was getting the ball more and going for it more because he was chasing a record.
Starting point is 00:18:15 And again, I will say, nobody scores 80 points without trying to chase a record, without acting outside the rhythm of the game, the regular rhythm of the game. Nobody naturally scores 80 or 100. And the only thing I will say to put a PS on this is,
Starting point is 00:18:31 If it was this was, like if this was Yokic doing it, I could kind of see it. If this was SGA, who are known for being elite, this was Tyrese Maxi. Bam's nice score, but this is so out of norm for him. It's crazy. Do we know what his career high was before this? He had never broken 50, right? Yeah, I mean, again, this is literally a one-off for him, right? Well, first of all, anybody scoring any points is a one-off, but you get my drift on this.
Starting point is 00:19:01 Yeah, he's been, I mean, he's been in, the defensive player of the year conversations. He's been all defense. Wasn't necessarily I mean the field goals were not terrible. The three point shot was not. But again, he got a lot of the heavy lifting done at the charity stripe. Let's go to Ryan
Starting point is 00:19:16 on 790. Ryan, good morning to you. Morning. There's only two real accents that you can make fun of nowadays. And I see Italians. Congratulations on the week. And the second is New York.
Starting point is 00:19:33 I hope Yankee James is listening to this. Aaron Judge is not who he thinks he is. He doesn't have a clutch bone in his body striking out in the night. He's dog water. And he doesn't deserve a win. Everybody needs to go back so that American baseball can get back to spring training. And that's all I'm going to say. Because it's going to be at work all day to day,
Starting point is 00:19:56 shut your bum ass up, Yankees fans. Aaron Judge ain't him, and he never will be in those clutch spots. Let me hear from your Staten Island. You're going to let that happen, Queens on 66 WFA, and you won't let that Aaron Judge hate at the show? Yeah, there was a large part of America Sports RV when Aaron Judge did not come through with a strikeout. We're necessarily disappointed, put it that way.
Starting point is 00:20:23 Can I say one thing? I know. We're in Houston. Oh, here we go. He was great in the playoffs last year. He had 500. They didn't get the crown. He had 500 with a 1,200 OPS last year in the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:20:42 You can speak it into existence. Those are facts. I mean, I'm just saying. He was, I mean, I know we hate Aaron Judge, and he's the worst. He's a douche. And you know, where's our Astros fans that have been calling Yordon better than Aaron Judge? We're homers here. That's fine.
Starting point is 00:20:59 He was great in the playoffs last year. He just was. You didn't turn on Homer two nights ago that people politely clap for? Would that be fair? It felt dirty. It did feel dirty. I didn't clab for it. I just cringed and then felt pain in my stomach.
Starting point is 00:21:14 Yeah. It's having gastroal issues, right? Mm-hmm. All right. Hey, we got a Josh Hader update coming up next. You all ready for that? It's not going to be any sort of breaking news. It's not even a breaking news center, but it's a sounder for sure.
Starting point is 00:21:28 Josh Hater, after I tell you about Uptown appliance repair. 1037, Matt and Ross with you here on Sports Talk 790. Time now for a Josh Hater update. Hater update On Matt and Ross's show Hader Bill is arm be good to go Ross is more on the bicep, right?
Starting point is 00:21:56 Which I guess is part of the arm. Yeah, sure, why not? It's on the arm, of course. Yeah. He will not be ready to go for opening days. What? I know, I know. That's okay.
Starting point is 00:22:10 Is bully go okay? We threw 15 pitches yesterday. Okay. We got a VLO update? I believe he was at 114. He's the guy. You're a liar. Kilometers per hour?
Starting point is 00:22:23 Yeah. Joe Spottis said yesterday the hater felt quote unquote pretty good. Pretty good. I can hear that in the Joe Spada voice. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, pretty good. It's going to take our time.
Starting point is 00:22:34 Okay. Ooh, on the I.L. To start the season. Yep. Brian of Bray, you will be your closer. Yes. You've got guys like Stephen Ocurt, Bennett Soussa, Brian King.
Starting point is 00:22:45 Sure, why not? Kay Wing-Tang? Yes. Depth, baby, depth. You know, I was... On Tuesdays. What is the Taiwanese pitcher's full name again? You said?
Starting point is 00:22:56 K-Wing-Tang? I think so. I think I thought you. We probably should get that right before the start of the season. When I was on the plane back from spring training, there was a man who came into visit and wanted to get a glimpse of him. He was Taiwanese. Oh, really?
Starting point is 00:23:10 Yeah. Yeah, I mean, he's got a nice career. I think it was a sneaky good acquisition. And you know, again, bullpens are every year, one year you love them, and next year you hate them. So we loved them last year. Well, the Taiwan has people have his back. Kwi Tang.
Starting point is 00:23:28 Teng. And I told him I visited Taiwan and it was lovely. I love Taiwan. Did you? Did you guys talk about some of your favorite spots? Yeah, we were talking about Taipei. All right. You going back soon?
Starting point is 00:23:44 I don't know if I'm going back any time soon, but I would love to go back. Taiwan was spectacular. Yeah, you were a big fan on the food, right? Oh. Mm. You were a little gassy, though, correct? During the trip? No, it's fine.
Starting point is 00:23:56 Why would I? No. I wasn't in my trip report. What's the other question is that? I don't know. It's a Matt Thomas question. Astros yesterday did beat the Orioles 7 to 6. Yes.
Starting point is 00:24:09 The offense is humming? Is Gordy still worried? You got 10 runs, and then you got seven runs in back-to-back games. We're all good. Maybe. To be fair, the Astros did Baltimore plays their spring training in Sarasota, and we talked about this
Starting point is 00:24:23 last week. We don't send A-listers across the state. No, we don't contextualize when it's bad, so we're not going to contextualize when it's good. Hey, Jack Winkler had a three-run double for the Astros that's given them the lead. Jack Winkler. Cam Smith knocked in a couple of runs. He's hitting 318 in spring now.
Starting point is 00:24:38 Oh, baby. He is Mr. Spring. Oh, come on. Don't call him that. Well, I mean, because if they call you Mr. Spring, that means you're not Mr. anything else. Well, I like him to be Mr.
Starting point is 00:24:49 April. Hell, I'll take October, too. Yeah, October sounds better. September. That's true.
Starting point is 00:24:54 All right. So, yeah, the Josh Hader situation is not a surprise. By the other, Christian Javier
Starting point is 00:24:58 is going to take a few days off, attending to some personal matters. And, again, don't know what that is. Joe did not want to get
Starting point is 00:25:06 an explanation what that exactly is, but apparently he will continue throwing while he is gone. Wishing him the best. That is for sure. 7-1-3-2-1-2-2,
Starting point is 00:25:16 579 if you want to chime in. We got a shorter show today. We got Brian Bocasific coming up in 20 minutes. We have Shut Your Bumass up coming up at 1130, and we're out of 1155, so come on in. Do not be afraid. We will greet you with warm, open arms here on the radio program. 713-1-2-1-2-5-7-19. So we got into a little bit of the Bamata Bayou conversation.
Starting point is 00:25:38 We got into the World Baseball Classic. And apparently, I guess, Mark DeRosa does not know the rules about the tire-breakers? He literally was playing like Paul Goldschmidt and stuff, thinking that they had already clenched. No Bregman, I think, yesterday, too, right? Am I right about that? I think so. Giving him a well-deserved day off in the middle of a very important once every three-year event. That seemed odd.
Starting point is 00:26:04 Well, they lost eight to six, and now their fate is out of their hands. More confidence in Team USA competing in the WBC or Team USA doing something in the World Cup. coming up this summer. WBC. The United States is like, I think they're like the 12th and 13th best team in the world. How are we going to do that?
Starting point is 00:26:28 Are we going to enjoy this World Cup? Of course we are. I know because you were a soccer efficient. No, you're going to hate on it because when it's like North Macedonia versus Sudan and it's nil-nil, you're going to talk about how soccer's boring. Would I do that? Yes. And they also let more, it's like the NCAA tournament.
Starting point is 00:26:45 They let a bunch of French mid-maidens fringe mid-majors in the tournament as well. They expanded the tournament for more money of course FIFA likes their money they're also corrupt yes USA
Starting point is 00:27:00 NCWA ICAA says hello everybody's corrupt yeah maybe we should create a sports association of just nice people that don't gouge their list viewers and rank reasonable salaries and let people affordable that's called minor league sports
Starting point is 00:27:17 yeah when you're in the sport becomes about cheese you're going to get some rats Matt did you write that you got yourself I just came up with that that. Jonathan, write that down.
Starting point is 00:27:28 With the sports about cheese, they'll bring out the rats? Is that what you said? When you make the sports about cheese, you're going to get some rats. I don't think you made that up. I did just now. Maybe somebody's used it before.
Starting point is 00:27:39 Like when you came up with Crush City and the Orioles had used it before. So it's possible it's been used before. You know what? I will use that as a comp. That's a fair comp. Because I didn't know the Orioles had used it before. And thus I could have retired and you could have, you know.
Starting point is 00:27:54 There's no way you're getting retirement money on. of that. There's no way. What could I have made? I don't know. For those who don't know, I came up with Car City, Houston, and everybody just jonesed off of it, including Arratery and the Astros. And they did sell some Nike shirts off of that, but how many?
Starting point is 00:28:10 You're probably getting a few cents off of every shirt. I would imagine. And if they sold 10,000, yeah, you'd probably get a few Gs. So, not life-changing money. Yeah, you'd get, you know, vacation of Hawaii money. Oh, God. It'd have been nice.
Starting point is 00:28:26 but you don't vacation, so it's all good. Yeah, my son, by the way, giving me a hard time at dinner dinner night. Dad, when's the last time I had a family vacation? I said, son, your life is a family vacation. Ooh, ouch. So next summer. Things are getting cold at the hot dinner table.
Starting point is 00:28:42 Next summer, we're going to go to Colorado, I think. You're such a liar. I don't believe you. No, you said you're going to Hawaii this summer. Are you going? No, because it's too expensive. We're getting an Airbnb for Carly and her mom up in Rhode Island. Just, I like, well, Cancun, well, Cancun's fine.
Starting point is 00:29:01 I think it's the other provinces in Mexico or states. We're not. We're going to have to go somewhere because some of us like the beach. Some of us do not. So we're going to go somewhere where we're in Urbibaba for us. We're either going to try Wyoming or Colorado or, you know, get one of those houses in the middle. Who doesn't like the beach? It's kind of boring to me.
Starting point is 00:29:19 Oh, it's you. No, it's Cameron, too. And Peyton, for that matter. You're supposed to relax at the beach. Matt. I don't know how to relax. I know. That's why I'm trying to get you to relax for all of us. All right. You're probably right. I probably could use some beach time.
Starting point is 00:29:35 Deep breath. Just listen to the, sit there and I want you to sit on the beach. First of all, we need you to get the sunscreen. Because we don't need you, we need you burnt to a crisp. I know. Literally sit at the beach and just listen to the waves, relax, and breathe deeply for like three hours. I'm going to do it one year from now. You're going to feel refreshed. One year from now, I'll do it. No. Nobody says I'm going to go to the beach one year from now. Well, this one got us.
Starting point is 00:30:02 You know, let's plan a trip with you. You'll bring your wife. Well, we're going to Vegas. That's relaxing. And I'll scare up a lady. I'll bring her too. All right, very good. Hey, listen, we've got the Texans making another offensive line acquisition. We had the Texans paying a kicker and trading for a punter.
Starting point is 00:30:20 Not what I thought would have been on the headline scale for the Texans in this offseason. but remember, what do we say yesterday, Rossi, that Nikki is going to the Dollar General to get some of these deals done? It's good. No, it's good. He's more of a, like, look, everybody's shopping at Neiman Marcus, and he's looking for,
Starting point is 00:30:36 he's scrounging for deals at Darshals. Yeah, he's at all fifth right now. Yeah, he's at the Nordstrom Rack. That feels fair. 713-212-5-790. Ryan Bogus is going to join us in about eight minutes from now. Texans,
Starting point is 00:30:54 Logan Hall, former Houston Cougar, once a Cougar, always a Cougar. Played for the Buccane Smith, the former offensive tackle for the Indianapolis Cults now wearing Texans gear. Your thoughts, Ross. I said they were going to sign an in. My gut feeling was they were going to sign, what did I say, triple league minimum? They were going to sign a line, interior alignment, and he's a tackle. So I guess I get an L on that. But I feel like I was in the right ballpark. Well, they had to get some more bodies.
Starting point is 00:31:24 So there's just a little way around it. I'm not going to win the closest to the PIN competition, but I was close. Then they re-sign Kami Fairbair and give him a two-year extension to give him big-time money. He's the highest paid kicker in the NFL. I think it's $6.2.2 million is what I heard. Damn. That's good money. I mean, he is the most important Texan.
Starting point is 00:31:46 He has to be the less important Texan next year. If the Texans rely on him as much as they did this past year, the Texans have not advancing their offensive team. Yeah, you're right. Right. Well, we'll see. Let's go C.J. Stroud. Let's go offensive line. Let's go David Montgomery. And then they make a trade for something called Kai Kroger.
Starting point is 00:32:06 Okay. Punter. And I have a friend of mine that I cannot name. Okay. To protect the innocent on this. That was like, he sucks. and that there was many other kickers that would have been better for the Texans to try to trade for.
Starting point is 00:32:30 Yeah, Kai Kroger is now a Houston Texans punter. I guess they, you know, they had a couple of punts block last year. The numbers were not nearly as good. Who's the, not Cam Johnson. Who's the punter for the Texans? Tommy Townsend. Tommy Townsend, yes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:47 Numbers weren't as good. The hair was the free lock, the flow of the locks were still. good, but generally speaking, not as good of a year. I don't have any opinions on this at all, except just don't screw it up and don't get punts blocked. Yeah, I don't know. Just because, as you're saying, like the net numbers aren't great, the average numbers aren't great, the inside, the 20 numbers aren't great.
Starting point is 00:33:13 Maybe there's, there's got to be some kind of advanced punting analytics that we're just not aware of. Well, you know, the one thing I have found out in the last couple of days is that kickers are trying to free agent kickers and punters for that matter are trying to get indoors as much as possible. They know they can extend their careers.
Starting point is 00:33:30 It makes a lot of sense. Yeah. You're going to see teams... It's coming from the Saints. Yeah, you're going to see players take less money to kick indoors because they know that if they're not in the elements of Chicago or Pittsburgh or the Giants,
Starting point is 00:33:44 the chance of them missing big kicks or not having good punts is going to be minimalized because of the dome conditions. Yeah. And then Texans did have them in a tryout in last summer, so maybe they liked what they saw. I don't know. One more NFL note to pass along before we go back on the phones.
Starting point is 00:34:01 Did you see that there is a thought that the NFL may be playing a Wednesday game before Thanksgiving? Player safety, player safety, player safety. Well, that's not necessarily true. I'm sorry, you're going to pay us how much Prime Video? Was this Prime Video, Netflix, I imagine, some streaming service. also put those two teams on, given the... No, Wednesday night football is not good for anybody. I'm sorry, there's no way to jump
Starting point is 00:34:26 through this mental hoop. It's not good for anybody. Oh, no, no, no. You are so false. Are you kidding me? The Wednesday night before people are going to be spending... I'm talking about the players and the organization and the coaches and I'm talking about the actual human beings who are going to be in the game. I'm not saying people aren't going to watch.
Starting point is 00:34:42 I know they don't care. No, no, no. The Wednesday night game will have the two teams will play a by week beforehand. Or they'll play the following it before the previous Thursday. They don't have six days off. They're not going to do that. They're not going to make them practice on a three-day week.
Starting point is 00:34:57 That's ridiculous. Yeah, but then they waste their buy week. Well, you've got to get it in somehow. Yeah, I know. For money. Nobody's ever asked for Wednesday night football. America's going to. Apparently, Roger Goodell believes that Wednesday night football is very important.
Starting point is 00:35:13 Yeah, because they're going to get a bunch of cash for it. Yeah, because they're always trying to add to their tail. Have you noticed that every year the NFL player association and the union and the owners love to brag about how much the salary cap is? There's a reason why. Television dominates it. They're doing quite well. They're doing so much on their TV deals. Well, they have to keep looking for more avenues for revenue because once you max out your Fox and your CBS and your streaming services and you max out this.
Starting point is 00:35:40 And the owner is going to come to Roger Goodell and say, hey, all right, we guess great. We made 20, whatever, I don't know, making up a number. 20 billion last year. We need $22 billion this year. We need $25 billion in a year after that. Let's go. The reality is this. The NBA TV deal has the owners mad,
Starting point is 00:35:53 and they want the TV deal renegotiate it. Because, like, wait a minute, you're giving the NBA $11 million a year for that? Mm-hmm. We won double that. Yep. You know? Frank, before we get to Brian Bogusiv, Frank, what do you got this morning?
Starting point is 00:36:10 Hey, how's it going, fella? Good. I was just calling Matt. They got this rumor going around on, I think it's on Facebook, a TikTok one. about the kid from you of A supposed to be going to transfer it. Is that true? The Kingston kid?
Starting point is 00:36:27 No, he will be declaring for the NBA draft. There will be no transferring. Okay. Because he already got a deal with Michael John, right? That I don't know. Well, they was saying like he got a $30 million deal with Mike for his shoes that they're going to do. I couldn't tell. I don't know what shoe deals are with 18-year-old.
Starting point is 00:36:50 kids. I have a hard enough time watching these games, much less figuring out their endorsement deals. But no, Kings and Jennings is going to be, Fleming, excuse me, is going to be a top five pick in the NBA draft. He's going to leave the university here's this year. Well, Matt, you don't have to upgrade. I depend on you with your U of A's knowledge
Starting point is 00:37:06 over there, you know. The other guy that's on the side of you that don't know about the Cougars. That's fine. He's Team Longhorn. He's on Team Cougar. Thanks for their phone call. You can't love everything. Yeah, let's go Coogs.
Starting point is 00:37:23 Yeah. Best in the land. By the way, Sunday, a selection Sunday? How good is that? God, it's a great day. I get your one bracket out and fill it out and just hope for the best. No, I'm going to do at least two brackets, maybe three.
Starting point is 00:37:36 Okay. All right, Brian Bogus Sevick. I don't want to hear you know, that Chuchabot you mess up. I had two brackets make the money in the big pool I was in last year. What are you got to say about that, Mr. One bracket? I had two brackets cash. I think I did okay because I had the Cougars playing. for the national championship.
Starting point is 00:37:51 So I think I did okay. I think I made some money. I think you did, actually. Yeah, I did. You want back in? No. Yeah, you do. And we are so happy to have with us
Starting point is 00:38:02 for another season of Astro Spring Training Conversation and regular season for the next hopefully 26, 27 weeks. We saw how to Brian Bogus Evick, Space City Home Network. Boggi, it's Matt Ross. Great to have you back. How are you enjoying the WBC? Well, it's good to be back.
Starting point is 00:38:20 I like it. I think it's fun. It's really nice, especially this time of year when the novelty of spring training is wearing off a little bit to see meaningful baseball. And every once in a while, it kind of gets the feeling of playoff baseball and high stakes. So, yeah, it's a fun tournament. It's obviously new compared to most international tournaments. So it's not the same juice as the Olympics or the World Cup or whatever. But it's fun and guys play hard, which is enjoyable. What do you do you ramp down or do you try? You obviously don't want to maintain because the spring training game on March the 20th against the Marlins would not have the zest that a world baseball classic game would be. So if you were in that locker room in that clubhouse talking to those guys, how do they get themselves from the emotions of this big event to getting back into, hey, we got a regular season that counts in a week and a half and we need to take it down a notch and then ranch it back up again? It's hard to figure because we've only had a handful of these tournaments.
Starting point is 00:39:22 So there is really no best practices and protocols for it. I think if you get through it to that point and you've played that many games at that high of an intensity, you should be pretty much game ready and you're stretched out. You're playing these guys for the most part playing full games. So I guess give a little bit of a buffer a couple of days to relax and unwind a little bit and let anything recover that needs to recover, but then just try to roll into it. I mean, you're not going to replicate those kind of reps the last week of spring training.
Starting point is 00:39:57 So try to keep the timing that you've gained and kind of try to get your body ready to go day one. But I would imagine that they're there pretty much where they would want to be coming out of spring training. So you just kind of try to hold on. All right. So let me go from the other side of things here. What is the club like the teams? And again, there's just a few players gone here and there, but how do you think Joe and other managers in baseball have worked around this
Starting point is 00:40:26 because they're trying for the end goal to get their team ready for the start of the regular season? Yeah, there's two sides of it, I think. I think the first side is everybody likes this. Everybody likes full competition as opposed to exhibition setting, and they like the international play, and it's a good tournament. It grows a game. Everybody's on board with the tournament.
Starting point is 00:40:51 So they do, you know, they help guys out a lot. They got some of these younger guys more reps in the first week of spring training than maybe they would have gotten to get them ready and up to speed for the WBC. But the other side of it is, is, hey, we've got a regular season to play, and it's a long season, and we need these guys. And you're kind of just biting your nails as they're gone and hoping that you get them back healthy and ready to go. I mean, that's the downside.
Starting point is 00:41:17 to any kind of exhibition tournament, and certainly one that is happening, you know, a couple of weeks before the regular season starts is we can't afford to have any major injury. So, yes, you enjoy it and you watch it, and you want your guys to do well, and you want to grow the game. But at the same time, it's like just get our guys back healthy
Starting point is 00:41:37 so we can move on to the regular season. Brian Bogus Civic with us here on 790. Let's get to the Astros now. The number one story conversation piece this offseason was the congested infield and maybe the lack of quality or at least experienced bats in the outfield that might remedy itself early on, especially if Jeremy Pena,
Starting point is 00:41:57 is not going to be ready for the start of the season. You can be parades to third move over Korea to shortstop. As you've seen it over the last five months, talk if you can from a macro view of things of how this thing has turned out. And if everybody eventually gets healthy, which hopefully will be the case, how does Joe Espada navigate these waters?
Starting point is 00:42:16 It's difficult because you're talking about five guys for four spots, but it's also five of the six best hitters on your team, guys who you want and need in the lineup every day. And, you know, I think what's happened here early with the pain of injury is it's a good lesson on not doing things until you have to do them. You know, everybody all offseason is talking about a trade needs to be made and throwing around names and everything. but over the course of the season things tend to work themselves out and situations change and we see that here quickly although you know fingers crossed it's not going to last very long into the regular season but you know i think there are going to be i think there's no one set answer right it's not a
Starting point is 00:43:06 at bat share at first base it's not somebody moving to the outfield full time i think it's a lot of everything and over the course of time you'll see these guys, these five guys in the lineup together almost every day, whether it's, you know, being able to mix in Yordan in the outfield occasionally to open up a DH spot or a regularly scheduled off day for a Correa or a walker where Parades can slide into the corner. And just just kind of enough everywhere to satisfy. That's got to be the long-term answer because that gets the most out of these guys who you need. I don't think we're going to see a single set solution to this anytime soon. And I don't think you need to just because over the course of the next six months,
Starting point is 00:43:57 there are going to be various times when guys are banged up or struggling or somebody is okay moving to one position or the next, that it's going to be able to kind of work itself out organically. Moving to the outfield, especially on the young guys. I'm curious, I don't know how much hands-on looks you've been able to get so far this spring, but Cam Smith has been hitting a little bit and what you've seen out of Zach Cole, who's struggling some, and then maybe somewhere in between Joey Lopropito. Yeah, I think, first and foremost, I think what we've seen from Cam Smith is very encouraging.
Starting point is 00:44:39 You know, how many times last year were we talking about adjustments that he was made? making during the course of the season, and a lot of it had to do with getting the bad head out more consistently, catching the ball out front, being able to drive the ball in the middle of the field and on the pole side. And we've seen it. His setup is a little bit different. It's kind of the way he's holding his bat is flattened out. He's got a little bit more rhythm in his start. And, you know, he hit a home run, I guess, two, three days ago now that was just a bullet to his pull side, which he didn't do a single time in spring training last year with all. all the production that he had, all the hits, all the home runs that he had in spring training last year,
Starting point is 00:45:16 he never pulled the ball in the air like that. So he's making the strides that we want to see him make. And if he can do that more consistently, what we saw from him last year, he has good enough back-to-ball skills. He has, you know, really good instincts in the outfield. If he can start driving the ball more than just pencil him into right field every day. And we're seeing good signs early from him. Zach Cole, he looks like he's caught in between an approach.
Starting point is 00:45:45 You know, he's a guy who had really good results swinging the bat a lot. And the kind of the thought was, hey, you need to tighten up the approach a little bit to be able to have that success continue over the course of time. And he looks like he's caught in between being patient and being aggressive and isn't really getting either right now. So that's going to have to work it, you know, he's going to have to work through that and, you know, at bats in time will allow him to do that. The question is, is that time going to happen in spring training?
Starting point is 00:46:16 Is it going to happen in the big leagues to start the year, or is it going to take some minor league at bats? I like what I've seen from Loperfeito. I mean, he's driven the ball to all fields. You know, he's, he had some strikeouts early, but he's tightened it up a little bit. What he did, you know, he had 100 at bats or so in Toronto last year, his strikeout numbers were way down.
Starting point is 00:46:37 His contact numbers were way better. And that was always the question with him when he was here. You know, we like the bat. We like the power. Is he going to make enough contact for it to show? There are legit signs of it going in the right direction. So he might play his way into a lot of that bats in left field to start the season. I like what I've seen from him.
Starting point is 00:46:58 And Taylor Shremel as well. He's kind of a guy that I think we forgot about him a little bit. But, you know, this time last year, he was a guy who we thought would maybe play a significant role before, you know, injuries derailed most of the season. Brian Bogusevic with us here on Sports Talk 790 to the pitching side. Can you temper my enthusiasm for Mike Burroughs or should I just be all-systems go and get excited about his spring? I'm with you. I mean, it's not just what he's shown, you know, on the mound.
Starting point is 00:47:35 And this stuff looks great. I mean, fastball is a more power fastball than I thought it was going to be. The change-ups great. The sliders look really good. But it's the demeanor. You know, a guy who doesn't have a ton of major league experience, he got about half a season's worth of starts last year, gets traded over to a new team. I was kind of expecting a guy who was, you know, a little bit giddy and happy to be here.
Starting point is 00:48:02 And all that, like, he looks like he is all business and, like, just put some real competition in front of me and I'm ready to run through some teams. He has been really impressive and I think a guy who it was thought maybe, oh, he'll solidify the middle of the rotation. It's looking like he can ascend to the top of a rotation. I like everything that I've seen from him and he seems to be getting stronger as the spring goes on and just like he's chomping at the bit. We have 8 million more questions for him. We'll leave with one here before we get to next week's visit. How short of a leash going back to the outfield
Starting point is 00:48:40 do you think that Zach and Cam have? And does that mean a guy like Bryce Matthews squeezes in the roster playing some center film moving guys around? And how much Yorna Alvarez do you want to see in the outfield, at least maybe in the first two or three weeks of the season?
Starting point is 00:48:57 Yeah, I think, so I think the leash for Cam's probably going to be a little bit longer just because of because the ceiling is higher. And so he's going to get more of an opportunity to become that player at the big league level. I think for everybody else, Loporito, Cole, all those guys, I think it's going to be a short leash because there's going to be a lot of options and there's going to be a lot of guys
Starting point is 00:49:25 that can be plugged in if you're not producing. So, you know, somebody, somebody's going to take that job over the course of the next two weeks, but it's not going to be there. there's until it's not. You know, it's going to be there's until they prove otherwise. So that will be a short leash. And, you know, Yoron, they don't want to do it, but it just might turn into a situation where you've got to if that is just, you know, every once in a while at home
Starting point is 00:49:56 with the small left field so he doesn't have to run a lot or if it becomes a little bit more regular. I think it's something that, look, this is not me saying, I know anything, but it's got to be something that's in the back of their minds of like, hey, if all else fails, we can put Jordan out there every once in a while or, you know, 50% of the time or something just to free up at bat for other guys and make it work a little bit better. Bogey, great stuff. Looking forward to our Wednesday visits at 11 o'clock, friend. Thanks for the time and we'll talk to you next week. Cool. Thanks, guys. Don't you just learn a lot from Brian Bogussevick? Plain spoken. Yes. glib just good stuff
Starting point is 00:50:36 yes smart articulate I mean a two lane educated man that he is by the way enough with you all send him Aaron Wilson tweets and stuff
Starting point is 00:50:46 I've gotten that like a thousand times I've only gotten it about 150 in the last time zone I'm on the mountain time zone life lessons it happens all of us it just does
Starting point is 00:51:02 it's all I'm going to say and don't say the name of the process No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. You know, it's a really quick story. There would be people Joel Bushbaum was a pro football weekly writer for many, many, many decades in the 80s, and he would go
Starting point is 00:51:23 on with, on 740 when we used to the night show on KTRH called Sportsbeat. And pranksters would try to call and give up names to guys not necessarily using sexual references, but just like, tell me about Harvey Blombush-Lien
Starting point is 00:51:39 and is he a good tight-in prospect and Joel would in his New York Raspi voice would say, I don't know who that is. People would try to goo for us. Yeah, they would try to get them. Yeah. We're mean, we're cruel. It is what it is. Terrible.
Starting point is 00:51:57 All right. So we got Hater, not pitching. We'll get to more of that next week and the roles of the bullpen. By the way, Brian McTaggar will join you tomorrow, Rossi, is part of the show at 11 o'clock. So we continue our great baseball coverage. Wonderful. And of course, we'll have Joe Espato when the regular season starts in a couple of weeks.
Starting point is 00:52:14 Rockets tonight here in Denver, um, they rested last night, the Nuggets while the rockets were playing and then flying here to, uh, to Colorado. I always tell you this about five times a year every time the rockets by the Nuggets. I think Nicole Yokic is going to be a top 10 player when his career is done.
Starting point is 00:52:34 And I don't, I'm not hesitating about this. Oh, he might be there. He might be there. He had some base. line three-pointers that were his shooting stroke is so
Starting point is 00:52:46 incredibly fluid. He's incredible. He's getting better. If he just gave a damn about basketball, he'd be even better. That's the that makes it even that much more impressive. He just wants to be home brushing his pretty horses. He doesn't care about this game.
Starting point is 00:53:02 He's averaging a triple double. He loves his brothers and he loves international. He wants to go drinking with the bros and hang out with his horses. Yeah. And want to annihilate Lou Dort when he can. And he's scoring 29 a game, 12 and a half rebounds, 10.3 assists, and he's shooting 39% from 3.
Starting point is 00:53:21 And they're tough threes. They're not like the top of the key or the side pockets. They're just the contested. Incredible. Bam out of bio, 83 last night. Pretty incredible, too. Look, as a lot of people have said this morning on the national TV shows, in 20 years, we won't remember how many free throws he had.
Starting point is 00:53:41 No, we won't. it's 83 is 83 is 83 again like the will the game got crazy at the end where both teams were fouling and stuff like that and we just talk we still talk about will chamberlain scoring 100 nobody talks about that yeah he made a bunch of free throws in that game too because he was shooting him underhand actually well here's the thing here's what can't happen and i can think of about four players that i've watched play a game in my life Michael Jordan could go on a heater, right? LeBron can go on a heater. Reggie Miller can go on it.
Starting point is 00:54:12 Ray Allen. I mean, the perimeter guys, that every time the ball touched their hand, it leaves their hand, it goes in for three. Maybe Shegilds Alexander's going to be that guy eventually. So there is a chance, Ross, that we will get an 80-point game again that will be a little more aesthetically pleasing
Starting point is 00:54:28 where field goals are made, and it's not a race of the free-throw line. It's not the 83 that is alarming. It's the box score. It's how we got to the 83, which, again, I don't know if there's any way you can get to efficiently get to 83 points unless you're just 20 of 27 from the floor. No, you wouldn't have to be higher than that, frankly.
Starting point is 00:54:48 Yeah, it wasn't hyper-efficient, as I said, related to other games. But Will Chamberlain's 100-point game, he had 63 field goal attempts. Like, if you wanted to really have a legit, oh-my-God moment, by the way, all the players around the NBA, Victor Wimbuniamma, who, by the way, had 8-3s last night for San Antonio. We have to talk about that. Let's not. Let's just pretend the Spurs don't exist.
Starting point is 00:55:14 You know, I'm going to pretend the Spurs don't exist for my own mental health. You know, we should have them relegated. Yes. I like that. Put them in the G League. I don't care. It's away from us. Put them back in the ABA.
Starting point is 00:55:27 Yeah. But if you're going to have one of those unbelievable, that was the legit 80-point game moments, the guy's going to have to go third. 32 of 41, basically, with a bunch of threes in the mix. Yeah, because if you get to the free throw line 25, 30 times, people are going to make fun of that. Just like they're making fun of Bamato Bios right now.
Starting point is 00:55:46 But we have to remember the reason he even got there and was pushing for that is because he had 31 in the first quarter. Oh, yeah, that's, that's, what was, and we will have time to pull up his boxer, but the first. I have it. I'm assuming the first quarter box score was quite impressive. He had 31 points on 10 of 16 shooting. He was 5 of 8 from 3 in the first quarter.
Starting point is 00:56:04 That's where you want to frame that. That's what you want to frame. That's where you end up pushing for 80 because you have a crazy first quarter. Right, right. All right. So we have shut your bum ass up coming up now. This is where you get, this is the most cathartic half hour of the week. You apologize for your sins on Friday, and Ross has got a list of it.
Starting point is 00:56:21 I think we got four from yesterday alone. I forgot him. Well, you can save them for Friday. If you want to tell somebody to shut their bum ass up, 713, 212, 5-790, 7-1-3, 2-12-5-790. Ain't nobody got time for that as well. well, that's all coming up. 713-212-5-7-90. This will be your favorite-to-one-time-h-all-to-all-to-time for it.
Starting point is 00:56:53 This will be your favorite part of the week. You will get to your phones right now and call 7-13-212-5-7-90. 7-13-212-5-7-90. Ain't nobody got time for that. And shut your bum-ass up, man. again, I'm not team I'm not team baseball, World Baseball Classic,
Starting point is 00:57:15 but how does Mark DeRosa not know the rules about the tiebreaker? You don't know anybody got time for that, boys? Ain't nobody got time for that? Terrible. I mean, did you know that MLB had pulled down the video from MLB.com? That's zero surprise.
Starting point is 00:57:36 And MLB Network, they're trying to pull it off of MLB Network, too. They're hiding the video now. Yeah. I got news for you. Anything that makes a baseball association or analysts look bad or a team that's associated with MLB, they're going to take it off. There is, what do they call it, Rossi, and like in Good Morning Vietnam, when they would like to strike some of the news headlines that make it sound bad. Censorship? Yeah, there's censorship. Propaganda. There is agenda feeding. There is. Of course. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:58:07 Agendas get pushed. Just take the L and move along. I goofed. I'm sorry. Didn't mean I didn't I didn't I should have known. I should have known. Ain't nobody got time for that. Hey nobody got time for that. Rossi, what's the matter with you this week? I'm just going to go with people. Okay, if you were like a Matthew Thomas and you're on the fence and you're like, I see how it's great. I see also how it was the wizards and there was a lot of free throws.
Starting point is 00:58:30 Like I understand you can go with the yeah, but. But the people who are completely dismissing the 83 points from Bam Etabio, I mean, get over yourself. and just stopped being a complete hater. Yes, it was against the Wizards. Yes, it was a lot of free throws. Go look at the fouls. There was a lot of fouls. It got gimmicky for sure at the end. Same thing happened at Will Chamberlain's
Starting point is 00:58:52 100 point game. So people were completely dismissing it as an accomplishment. Shut your bum ass up. Shut your bum ass up, man. To the Washington Wizards, how anybody got time for you being hot garbage for 25 years? Ain't nobody got time for that? As I told
Starting point is 00:59:11 I watched that 2006 Kobe Bryant 81 point of the highlights of that. I saw every bucket and the free throws and stuff. You can find it on YouTube. That was All-Star game level defense being played by the Toronto Raptors. It just was. So if you want to go after that, you go after Wiltz 100, go after Kobe's 81. If you're going after BAMs 83, that's all I'm asking for. Okay.
Starting point is 00:59:34 You're looking for fair and balanced criticism of 83-point games. Let's be a little consistent here. I know that's asking too much. but come on now 713-212-5-790 Jonathan what's the matter with you reading about this Max Crosby situation and how he had this big
Starting point is 00:59:56 thank you Raiders you know love you guys knowing your knee was all busted up to the point where you got released I've never seen that in my 23 years of living an NFL player getting released of injuries ain't nobody got time for that man ain't nobody got time for that should have been open and honest
Starting point is 01:00:11 well no he was recovered recovering from surgery. People think that the Ravens failed his physical just so they could get Tray Hingens. That's where I go with. I lean that direction. I think Trey Hendrickson was available. So he's,
Starting point is 01:00:24 yeah, Max Crossey was recovering from surgery. And the Ravens don't have to say why they failed him. They could, if they think he's behind in his recovery, or if they don't think things are setting right with his surgery or whatever, they could fail him. But they knew he had surgery.
Starting point is 01:00:39 So he got played, basically. Max Crosby, we don't know. Okay. We don't know. Allegedly. Oh, you know what? I'm going to take that back. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:00:50 Yeah. So it's an interesting situation. It could have been like, oh, what, Trey Hederson is still available? Oh, we could get him at this number. Oh, we're failing Max Crosby. Yeah. And we get to keep our draft picks, too.
Starting point is 01:01:02 Don't forget about that. Well, to that point, Ravens, if you're doing that, ain't nobody that time either. This is a whole mess. Yeah, it's a mess. Let's see. What else?
Starting point is 01:01:16 Anything else? I need to shut your bum ass up. The flight was okay. That's good. NBA schedulers, ain't nobody got time for all these back-to-backs down the stretch? Ain't nobody got time for that? Rockets still have three back-to-backs in the next 20 games. Isn't that crazy?
Starting point is 01:01:34 Yes, it is crazy. It went up to six and a half. It was five and a half yesterday, Nuggets. I ain't worry about it. He's scared. Okay. Go Rockets. To the Big 12, who made this big grandiose announcement about this awesome thing that's going to happen
Starting point is 01:01:48 in Kansas City. They change the color of their floors. Big 12, shut your bum ass up, may? Shit your bum ass up, man. It's like an LED floor, right? Yeah, it's stupid. I thought you really have something cool,
Starting point is 01:02:01 like halftime activities, or, you know, like Kendrakemao's going to perform at halftime, a generational talent. That would be great. Like that. Yeah, Pulitzer Prize winner, 27-time Grammy winner.
Starting point is 01:02:11 Matt just said Lamar, Chukinda Lamarra, the generational talent. Absolutely. That's exactly what I said. He's being sarcastic. He's being sarcastic, I don't know.
Starting point is 01:02:18 I'm Mr. serious. 27-time Grammy winner. Ain't nobody got time for that? I thought you were being serious, man. I'm being serious. You believe me. Believe me.
Starting point is 01:02:26 Please believe me. I said it. Kendra Marr better than Drake. Oh, of course. Shit your bum ass up, man. Drake's Raptors lost last night, by the way. Sorry to Charlie. That's a shame.
Starting point is 01:02:40 No big men. Rocket took advantage of that. Kevin Durant, highly efficient. Jabari Smith, awesome game. Men Thompson, going the free throw line on a bunch. Yes. How were the calls last night? One or two?
Starting point is 01:02:53 Definitely Gerard. I think it was one. I always feel bad that I don't time Gerard for you. It's okay. I don't want to, I don't care. I mean, I try to keep him under three,
Starting point is 01:03:02 which he was. It was around 240. That's not bad. Sometimes, I've told him, sometimes he repeats himself. He'll say the same thing, two or three times in the same call.
Starting point is 01:03:10 We love Gerard. I wouldn't have talked to anybody last night. I love Gerard. Gerard, if you're listening, I love you. I love Gerad calling the post game shows. It gives me someone to talk to,
Starting point is 01:03:18 especially when they win. now when they lose against the warriors, I had like, I don't know, eight calls. But you went against the raptors? It's just the nature of how it goes. That's okay. What do you think about EMA saying all the things he said about BAM and they said, and then the very end he goes, and the Washington Wizards? I think that would the negativity.
Starting point is 01:03:33 I don't know. Ema's, I don't know. Plain spoken is not the word I would use, but he's. He's being matter of fact. Yes, he was being blunt. A lot of people were saying like, oh, he's hating on BAM or something like that. The initial comment, like, I didn't expect it from BAM. I mean, that's everybody.
Starting point is 01:03:50 And people are like, oh, he's hating on BAM. Yeah, he just because of the way BAM plays, he didn't expect it from BAM. I think that's a fair statement. Everybody is saying that. No one expects, if you had a list of 50 players in the NBA to go for 83 in this season, Bam's not making the top 50 of your list. He's just not. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:04:11 And I think EMA's comments when it got a little overblown. Yeah, I agree with you. Jim and the heights. Jim, what's the matter with you? Well, I got to tell you, I must be on some algorithm, officially known as a Dodger hater. Because I saw this video yesterday on social media, this guy walking down the steps at Dykin, like he's the cock of the walking.
Starting point is 01:04:36 It goes, I'm back to where the cheaters live. And if it wasn't for the cheaters, my daughters would have won 10 World Series. Shut your bum ass up. We ain't got time for that. Shit your bum ass up, man. You're playing the bad. Yeah, so shut it up. Shut your bum ass up, man.
Starting point is 01:05:00 Thank you, Jim. Jim, bringing it strong today. I just got to tell you all something. We're never going to shake 2017. It's never going to change. Just live with it. We're never shaking 2017. And I'm telling you, Ross, if it was the Rangers that did it,
Starting point is 01:05:21 we wouldn't be shaking them either. It's gotten better. it go. It was getting better, but it's never going to go away. Time heals all wounds, and the 22 was a must-win. Oh, my God, was a must-win. It was a must-must-win. All right, one last opportunity for you to get in on the shut your bum-ass up. Let's go. 7-1-3-21-2-5-790.
Starting point is 01:05:42 7-1-3-2-1-2-5-7-90 with... All right, we got five minutes left in the show. What should we do? No, no, no, no, no. Oh, we weren't ready for that. Sorry. That's my bed. All right.
Starting point is 01:06:02 Tomorrow, Brian Bogus-Evick was with us today. Tomorrow will be Brian McTaggart with us for a regular Thursday visit. We've quartered the market on Brian's. Yeah. Brian Tearsman. And I think we're good. Brian Bosworth, former Oklahoma University grad. Brian Erickson, will be joining us on Monday?
Starting point is 01:06:21 That's good. Hopefully not. I mean, people can hear him if wants to, if you want, you know. No, I just mean if I'm hearing from him, that means I'm usually in trouble. rubble. Oh, that's true. That's true. All right. Rockets and Nuggets tonight. We've got Astros baseball coming. Oh, you want the lineups, by the way? Absolutely. I figured you'd like that. It is a pretty good lineup, all things considered. Again, they're home, so that kind of helps. They go on the road, it gets a little sketchy. The home lineup today for the Astros will have Zach Cole leading off and playing right field. Hmm.
Starting point is 01:06:54 Jose at D.H. Today, Esoc Pred is at third. Carlos Gray at short. Taylor Tremel in left, Jake Myers in center. C.J. Alexander at first wearing Jersey number 91. Bryce Matthews is at second base today. And, of course, batting ninth is our Salazar. He's really locking down that nine spot.
Starting point is 01:07:15 I mean, I'd have to have a little personal conversation, man. Look, I know I'm in a ninth batter and an astrol lineup in a regular season game, but can I get out of the nine hole in a March game for the love of God? But is the counter argument that Cesar Salazar is going to be who he's going to be? Whether he gets a couple of extra looks this spring or not, I don't know. Tatsuya Emi is going to throw it today for the local nights. We'll have it for you here coming up in about two and a half minutes from now. Yeah, C.J. Alexander needs some more looks because he's an 0 for 11.
Starting point is 01:07:48 Where's that was Riley Unro? I don't know what Riley Unro's up. Maybe they must be like a Louisiana appreciation day, and he's got to get back to Louisiana for a few days. Cole, two for 16, Altovae, two for 19. Oh, you're doing this, aren't you? Go ahead. Great. Running through.
Starting point is 01:08:04 It's fine. How's a Paredes? Paratus, two for ten. Carl's Correa. Two for nine. Taylor Tremel. Seven of 22. Woo!
Starting point is 01:08:13 He's ready, baby. That's the epitome of a March player right there. Let's go. Sneaky snake, Jake. I'm consulting with the fan club right now. They said don't say it. Wait a minute. Why?
Starting point is 01:08:27 Fine. It's the truth. Two for 15. Well, you know that spring training pitching is... He's saving all his hits for the regular season. Yes. Just like Whitney Houston was saving all her love for you. He's saving all his hits for the regular season.
Starting point is 01:08:44 Yeah. I mean, if you're going to go on a national tour and belt out some big hits, you're not going to do it when you're playing concert halls in Monroe, Louisiana, or you're in... Cape Girardo, Missouri. You're going to be in Vegas showrooms. That's what they call Jake Myers big time. They do call him big time.
Starting point is 01:09:01 Yeah, big time. Yeah, big time. He was bigger when we saw him last week or last month. Yeah, he's been, he's adding mass. He's ready to slug some more. Those are his words on ours. I know. Sometimes when you do that, though, it kind of might slow you down.
Starting point is 01:09:15 So who knows? Never slowing us down as a Matt Thomas showed Ross. Ross. Enjoy the experience of tomorrow. without me. I know you'll miss me. I will be. I'm actually crying inside right now. You have, I just don't get it tomorrow at 1130. Sure, why not?
Starting point is 01:09:29 By the way, I have another bathroom with a phone in my bathroom. Okay. It must be the handicapped thing. It's got to be an ADA or something. Yeah. Man, it's not bad. If you fall down, I mean, Elvis was going to use the phone back in the 1977. That's true. Just no way. What I mean? Just no way. There's something wrong with you, Matt.
Starting point is 01:09:46 And this is how the king dies, baby. Up next, Astros Baseball. We'll talk to you tonight at 9 o'clock for the Rockets and Nuggets here on 7. Yeah.
