This is the Matt Thomas show.
10.02 at H-Town.
Good morning, everyone.
And welcome to a Monday edition of the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
This is Sports Talk 790.
Tunzel is an eligible lineman on the left side of the offensive line.
O'Smith goes in motion.
Stroud throws to his left.
Pass is complete.
Touchdown Nico Collins.
Nico Collins with his seven touchdown reception,
a little shoving at the end of that play.
That is a great honor to be put in the same category.
Here's Pierce, and Pierce is going to break free.
He Pierce inside the 10.
Indy 2 yards for Damien Pierce, and the Texans are feeling good.
Mills to the middle, passed to a plea to Woods,
and he's got a first down up to the 46-yard line.
Mike Brown in on the tackle.
Second and goal.
Mills, trying to run.
Mills, inside the five.
He lost the football, and it looks like they fell on top of it in the end zone,
but they're going to say that Mills was down.
36 yards to get to 1100 yards, which will put another incentive in for him.
Oliver Fubble to football.
It's picked up.
A. F.C. South title.
Better red?
It feels good.
Let's go, Texans.
And how do we celebrate?
We'll do it at 3.30 on Saturday.
There's customary time.
They should just say they'll be on at Texan's time.
You just call it Texan's time.
Well, it's funny because I had not thought of it in that respect
until we thought about it from the Astro.
What do the Astros do?
Tuesday at 1 o'clock.
Yeah, there's their Astros time.
Wednesday and 12.20.
That's correct.
Yeah.
And then Rockets' playoff time is 845 at home games.
Yeah, it's called prime time, Matt.
It's called Pasture bedtime.
Let's go lose by 20 to the Warriors.
Oh, baby! Davis, Mill, Money Mills.
Damien Pierce, the goat.
You know what? I have, I try to stay awake on Sundays between like noon and 10 p.m.
Because that's just the prime football spot.
I took a nap in that second quarter and it felt good.
That's great.
The Sunday nap on a rainy kind of drizzly day with the temperature dropping.
Not a bad eye.
idea at all. I'm usually a 3 p.m. napper on Sundays.
Yeah. Right after all the 12 o'clock games, the dust settles. Yeah.
But I went early. I went for my early nap at 1230, and it was 16, 6, and it was 19. I don't, I don't even know.
It doesn't really matter. Well, usually the good game doesn't start until 325. So around 3 to 3.45 is a good nap spot.
Yeah. That's not bad. But yeah, it was the earliest I've taken a Sunday nap in a long time on a football Sunday because it meant nothing.
I actually spent more time looking at the red zone
and watching between Tampa Bay
when they were playing
was it New Orleans at home and then you had Carolina at Atlanta.
That to me was way more intriguing
and that's what it was supposed to be.
But for the Texans, it was beating up on Mason Rudolph.
Will Elvis, by the way.
Thomas Sports Enterprises has an announcement to make.
I told, no, I convinced you to stay the course.
Bryce Young says stay the course.
Sam Darnold says, Baker Mayfield says stay the course.
You don't know what my announcement is.
Oh, okay.
Thomas Ford's Enterprises.
In not a unanimous vote among our board of directors and our shareholders.
Okay.
Remain somewhat bullish on Will Lovus.
All right.
I thought you were going to say you were cutting bait.
No, that's easy.
No, no, no, no.
I'm proud of you.
Stay the course, Matt.
Because again, you know, the Titans need to stay the course too.
I've figured.
Will Levis is looking great.
Yeah. Let's go, Titans. I think Will Levis is the guy. He just needs more time, better weapons around him.
What does the go-to? He needs more stable coaching. He needs better pieces around him, better offensive line, more time to learn.
Healthy running back. Yeah, healthy running game. All that's great. But, I mean, seriously, if I would have told you 12 months ago today that Bryce Young was going to have a bounce back second season, you'd have been like, no, he looks like a deer in headlights.
Well, you've got told me that eight weeks or 10 weeks ago, whenever he got benched for Andy Dalton.
But Andy Dolton
What's even more profound is Sam Donald.
Sam Donald is a top 5 MVP candidate.
Maybe not top.
Maybe.
Maybe.
He basically is going to be paid like a top five quarterback.
What do they do that or not?
Now, yesterday doesn't even really count.
He's not getting a first place vote.
No, no, no.
He's in the conversation.
I mean, does the NFL have a comeback player of the year award?
If that is, they do.
They do.
And I thought, okay, so there's actually a story about this the last couple of weeks.
I thought they changed the criteria to where you have to be coming off an injury or something like that, which Sam Darnold...
So you can't suck the previous year and win the award the following year.
But then the NFL made an announcement that they're not going to invalidate votes for Sam Darnold, even though they don't...
He doesn't fit the criteria.
It's very confusing.
I can look more.
Well, all I can tell you is he's really good.
The folks in Minnesota love him.
And Minnesota, you know, you're talking about how you should seed.
they go from potentially having the number, what,
one or two seed in the ANFC playoffs
to having to go on the road to play their first playoff game.
And that's exactly what's going to happen.
Because the Lions, and again, I didn't watch much of it
because of the fact that we were calling Rockets Lakers last night.
But yeah, I mean, they won and did their thing.
Speaking of that, the Rockets did beat the Los Angeles Lakers yesterday.
Yes, they did.
And the LeBron T-shirt wearers were out in full force yesterday.
Yes, they were.
And it was, you know how you say, well, maybe they were just Laker fans.
No, there were Miami Heat, LeBron James Jerseys in the building last night.
There were Cleveland Cavalier, LeBron James Jerseys in there.
I think LeBron is one of the early representatives of where now there's been somewhat of a changing where people root for players over teams.
And I've raised one of them.
And I think a lot of that started, well, first of all, free agency didn't start in most sports to like the late 80s or early 90s.
So there wasn't a lot of time for people to change.
but now with LeBron being as great as he was,
and then the decision,
and then going to the heat,
and then going back to Cleveland,
I think he's absolutely one of the standard bearers
for people who are just fans of a player.
Yeah, no question.
And you know what?
It's probably the smart thing to do
because teams are,
I mean, if you love James Harden,
look at how many uniforms he's won in the last five years.
A lot.
Seriously.
You got to buy a lot of jerseys.
Well, I mean, seriously,
can you take it alone.
Could you really get behind being a Brooklyn Nets fan
when you're not from New York?
I mean, come on.
No.
You're about James Hard is what you are.
So, there is it.
All right, we have a busy show today.
We will have Domek O'Ryan's.
We'll be speaking in the media at 1130 this morning.
We will carry that for you here on Sports Talk 7-90.
Also, we've got to tell the truth.
Normally at 1130, we're going to bump that to 1230 today.
And then Gordy's going to come in in the last hour of the show because I'm going to head off to D.C.
Well, he might not.
Really?
He might be busy on some calls, he said.
We'll see.
I can handle it.
Are you sure?
I can get an Adam in.
Get an Adam in.
Get a Dan Matthews in, if you will.
Pick an Adam.
Yeah, pick a Randall Adam.
a mini at them. Yeah, for sure. All right, so we got that today. And we have a lot to get to from the NFL playoffs.
What is it more of an automatic? 3.30 for a Texans or 12 or 1 o'clock for the Astros. It feels like it's about 5149 Texans.
There have been some 3 o'clock Astro games playoff wise.
8 out of 8. You can't argue with that.
No. Eight times in the playoffs, 8 times the early Saturday.
Yeah. And it just once again proves to you. And again,
doesn't really matter, but the Texans do, I mean, first of all, the chargers carry no cashé in Los Angeles, much less across the country.
But the Texans carry zero national cachet, which is because surprising that they were on national television as much as they were this past year.
Yeah, it's growing.
It is?
I think so.
I think a growing sign would be not playing a 3.30 on Saturday.
Matt, I guarantee if they win.
No, no, never mind.
They could be early Saturday again.
I guarantee if they win two games, they won't be the early game on a Saturday.
We're going to really go out there.
All right.
So we have that to get to rockets.
We have Texans.
We have NFL playoffs.
We have great college basketballs.
My Cougars beat the other Cougars on Saturday.
I don't talk about this Fox Sports lawsuit at some point.
And we're going to talk about Joy Taylor because...
And Skip Bayless too.
And Skip two.
Although, who's wearing it worse today?
It feels like Joey's got a slight lead on that bad boy.
It's 50-50.
Because she likes to have sex, apparently.
That's how the species continues, that.
With multiple people.
Most people do.
And around people that she works with.
Oh, that's different.
She's, she's, she's in a, she's in a rotation.
Oh, right.
That's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's uncalled for.
But, I mean, seriously.
You know, you know, it's been the most interesting part of it all is that we've got a lot of female sports broadcasters that are like this bitch.
I mean, seriously, it's by no fault.
Like, if, if, if Skip really paid a million and a half dollars to have sex with somebody, I mean, he's just a dog, but he doesn't ruin.
the male species. Joy Taylor is out hoaring around and every female sports reporter is getting, you know,
drink over the calls over this. Nobody who is, can be victim of a stereotype, likes when other people
fit that stereotype and make everyone else look bad. Yeah. Yeah. All right, 713, 212.1, 790. 7132.570.
I want to ask a serious and honest question. How much of the Texans game did you watch yesterday?
And I got one more
Unpopular take about the game
Not involving the teams
But just about the atmosphere
That was Nashville yesterday

More Matt Thomas show
With Ross
Now on Sports Talk 790
All right
You know that
after last year when the Texans, excuse me, when the Titans wore the Oilers gear, I was like,
screw you, Amy Crunk-strunk.
You're so lucky that you didn't earn any of what you've just inherited because of simply
you were the child or the spawn of Bud.
I'm trying to be...
The spawn of Bud.
Sounds like a bad 80s movie.
Yeah.
And I'm happy they got their ass kick yesterday wearing those gears again.
Oh and two.
But they look great.
And I'm whatever.
I'm over it.
I mean, I'm certainly over it, but it doesn't mean I can't still appreciate how good they're.
Yeah, I appreciate how good they look.
But it's, they got to stop.
I mean, you're getting your ass kicked by Case Keatim and Davis Mills.
I mean, give it up.
There were like 25,000 people in the crowd that was cold.
That's including staff.
Yeah.
And players.
And the mascot.
But yeah, the uniforms look good.
And then the second game, Can't see Denver, which was a blowout,
because Denver was playing for something Kansi was on.
The Broncos going to the old school stuff.
38 to zero.
We've just got to go.
You know, some people say, you know, you have to change the times and you have to do this.
Yes.
You know, always stay current.
In sports uniform apparel, going to the past is significantly better.
The rockets last night had the rockets.
Now, it's ketchup and gold where it's compared with ketchup and mustard back in the day.
But the ketchup and gold with the updated H-town jerseys,
with the old Rockets logo.
It's spectacular.
The floor looks fantastic.
Everybody loves old school.
I shouldn't say everybody.
A lot of people love old school.
Right.
Even young people.
Like there's a, I don't know what it is, but there's a better energy when those H-town jerseys are on in Houston.
There was obviously supposed to be a better energy for the Titans, but it didn't work out for them.
No, it didn't seem to.
But, you know, like the Bronco fans are like, please, let's wear these every single week.
Mm-hmm.
I don't know. I think we're, I'm glad to see that we are seeing.
Now, again, we're seeing a variety of different goofy-ass uniforms out there,
but the nostalgic stuff is really, really working well.
Yes, we always like nostalgia.
Yeah.
It's like, I don't know, Miller Lake going to the old can from the, from the 80s or 70s or whatever.
When you're in the shower, you want a good cold 1975 Millerite beer.
You get it.
Okay.
Bobby Slovak, by the way, being interviewed or will be, has been asked by the New York Jet to Paul.
for their head coaching spot.
And is the
Texans fan general consensus?
See you later? See you later.
Isn't it crazy? And this happens
a lot of times in college sports.
A certain coordinator will go from one school to the other
and it's like, oh, don't let the door hit the ass.
Can't wait for you to come here?
It's always the coordinator's fault.
Like the U of H's had an offensive coordinator
this past year that got fired with a week left
to go in the season. He was at Mississippi State. And all
everybody on Twitter is like, Mississippi State, we told you
he sucked. You know, it's
It's the easy thing to do is your guy leaves you for what you think is a better spot
or he's trying to get away before he gets fired.
He wants to get fired and like, yeah, we didn't miss him at all.
Yeah, Texans' offensive line is like the worst in the NFL and blown block and pressure rate.
And it's all Bobby Sloke's fault.
Mm-hmm.
Yep.
Oh, by the way, Laramette Town, so congratulations on your Pro Bowl and then getting multiple false starts penalties.
The second one I felt like was a, it should have been a neutral zone infraction.
One of the other players, the Titans players came across the line and then he went off.
Yeah, yeah. The second one, the first one was obvious.
The second one wasn't.
And then, I don't know, who was it?
Somebody in the broadcasts that was saying, well, you know, the cadence changes with the quarterback.
I mean, my God, you're a pro-bowl offensive lineman.
You should be able to adapt if Ross Ville Rial is taking the snaps.
Yeah, that's true.
I'm just a downset, hot guy.
Yeah.
But, I mean, don't get me started.
Go ahead, Matt.
Talk about how much you hate Laramie Tunsell.
I'm not a fan of his.
I know.
And you know what?
I'm not by myself.
I know.
The Pro Bowl committee, well, I guess, how much is it?
It's some fan vote.
And it's not even a problem.
It's an element of it.
At least the NFL smart.
It's a Pro Bowl selection.
Yeah, but when you get it selected to All-American, there's no game.
Yeah.
So, I mean, there's still a big deal.
You remember, there's no All-Pro game.
You're still All-Pro.
Yeah, but if All-Pro is the, it's the big banner.
The Big.
The Cream de la Creme.
Yeah, you get like a big soap dish where it says All-Pro on there.
No, all pro is absolutely.
Yeah, that's way more important than Pro Bowl.
Because, as you said before, a lot of guys is like, I can't
I can't play flight football in Orlando.
Yeah, we're good.
Because think about it, if Pro Bowl's in years past, it never involved in Super Bowl teams.
So that's probably 10 players itself that weren't playing.
Yeah.
And Joe Mixon said he hopes he's not at the Pro Bowl because he wants to be at the Super Bowl.
Well, I got news for him.
He'll be at the Pro Bowl.
He'll have zero problem getting there.
I believe, Matt, that you're right.
Line right now is depending on who you're looking at, three, three and a half.
Yes.
Chargers favored in Houston.
Yeah, it doesn't matter to me what Vegas thinks.
It's about what that's going to happen on Saturday.
I mean, could the Texans win the game?
Of course.
L.A. is not immune from Alana an egg.
I mean, they have had a history of terrible, terrible,
fourth quarter, second half games and playoff games and losing.
And Herbert's really, really good, but he's not perfect.
I got a question for some friends of mine.
Their names are Laramie Tensel and Blake Fisher.
Are Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa both healthy?
We will find out later this week.
Okay.
I was talking to Wex last night at the Rockets game.
I said, do you think the NFL would make the Chargers?
Oh, they are.
Because they had a road game in Vegas yesterday.
Yeah, both Joey Bosa and Khalil Macra.
Oh, God.
You're all right over there?
No.
You're sweating bullets.
I'm all right.
Okay.
Let's get that run game going.
Was there any thought the NFL said,
it'd be really not very fair for the Chargers
of being the last road game of the season.
and not grand Vegas to L.A. is an hour.
Flights is not a big of a deal.
Then had them fly to L.A.
to Houston on a short week.
And the answer is yes, of course it is.
They want the best matchups.
11 and 6, the Los Angeles Chargers.
They really came on.
You know what? And say this.
I think Jim Harbaugh, at the end of the day,
it's a horrible human being.
Yeah?
I mean, I wouldn't trust him with anything in my life,
except maybe coaching.
Short term.
It's, well, I mean,
his act is going to wear thin on the NFL players.
But did it wear thin in San Francisco?
Yes.
You really think it did?
Yes.
Oh, I just, my thought was, and again, and we weren't around it,
my thought was he gets changed to go back to his alma mater, gets paid a boatload of money,
go win that.
But he's always done is win.
That's true.
Literally, all he's done, he's won.
Freaking Stanford he was winning.
He won at the University of San Diego 1 AA.
Yeah.
They're like, oh, well, go ahead and keep you forever.
No, I'm going to Stanford.
Yeah, we'll see you.
But everything he's done, he's won.
That is true.
And now he gets to play by any rules he wants to because he doesn't have to follow any rules.
Yeah, when's the, what do they call it in the NCAA, the no hire policy or something?
Like, when does that expire?
At fault or something like that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's crazy.
Let's talk to some people.
713-212-5-790.
7-13-212-790.
We'll start today with Don in Cyprus at 1024 on the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Don, good morning to you.
Hey, good morning.
Hey, I was just looking up the criteria for the Pro Bowl for linemen.
and there's a special note asterisk down at the bottom
and says you have to lead the NFL and false starts.
So let's go ahead and get that all cleared up right now.
That's the reason why he's going.
Oh, okay. That makes sense, yes.
Yeah.
Now, let me ask you, I've got to ask you a question.
Seriously, we're on the 6-inch line.
Whose decision would that be to pass the ball twice on 3rd down
and they're on 4th down when you're 6 inches away
and not do a quarterback sneak?
If it's Salone, then don't let the door hit you and ask, go to the Jets and have fun.
And we'll find somebody else that can make the correct play calling.
And because I just don't believe as the head coach, that had to be Salon personal call on that one.
And that's just total point.
You mean Slowick?
Not Sloic.
Bobby, Slovak.
Oh, Sloic or whatever you want to call him.
No, I think it's been Bobby Sloick since day one.
We've never, we've never, we've never reinvented his name.
But no, D'Amico does not call plays on offense.
He does not.
God, man, that was horrible, man.
So I'll just hang up a list.
Oh, that's just bulls.
Okay.
Hey, hey, hey, hey, let's keep it family friendly here.
Good gracious.
I caught myself.
You did.
You did.
Nice job.
You get through 90% of the word.
I don't know.
And, you know, again, it's Bobby Sloick for those of you playing at home.
Yes.
Yeah, two bad passes on the third and goal from the one.
For sure.
But I don't know.
I will say on the play action, on the fourth down,
it looked like the run would have been blown up.
When that happened and I saw it again,
I was like, okay, if that was a run play,
it would have been, Tennessee was looking run
and they would have blown that play up.
So it was a good play call in theory.
Davis Mills didn't make the throw.
Robert Woods didn't get open.
He didn't get.
Let's just, let's stop right there.
Robert Woods, Davis Mills,
you're trying to ask us to analyze those two gibronies.
I mean, please, come on.
Come on.
If Davis Mills could have made a better throw
And Robert Woods had a more
better separation
It would have been a good play
So you know what
You're right
You know what I'm not 610
We're not going to do this for four hours
I'm sorry
We're going to do ourselves
We're going to talk big picture on this
And you said Joey Bose is playing huh
Yes
And Khalil Mac as well
And Kalil Mack's going to play
And they're not arthritic
Hopefully they develop some arthritis in the next week
They don't have like
They didn't plan a vacation somewhere
and can't have to skip this game for any reason.
It's a concern.
It's a concern to be sure.
And another thing for you, too, is, you know, people like, well, you know, they come to our house and they're going to face 65,000 screaming fans.
They're used to that.
They face 65,000 fans out of other teams.
17 weeks.
It's called their home games.
At year, yes.
It is crazy that you have a team in Los Angeles in this beautiful facility where they share with the Los Angeles Rams, and they have no fans.
I mean, one of my best friends in life.
I've been since in the sixth grade.
It's been, buddy, Ed, you've met him before, Rossi.
He's the only charger fan I know.
I mean, legitimately.
They may have more fans in San Diego still to this day than they do in Los Angeles.
But, yeah, they win.
I mean, everything they, and look, they're 11 and 6.
I mean, damn.
And Justin Herbert's really good.
He really is.
Yeah, J.K. Dobbins is back.
He's really good as a running back.
Herbert's really come along as the season's gone along.
Quentin Johnson, I thought the dude was just going to be a straight-up bust.
He just had 180-plus yards last game.
I mean, and-Lad McConkey is really good in the slot.
They're favored for a reason.
Yeah.
If you ask me who the better football team is, I'm telling you it's the Los Angeles Chargers.
But again, teams can also lay eggs on the road.
I mean, this is, this, you're going to find very few.
I shouldn't have it very few.
You're going to find some people that are going to believe that the Chargers are going to win this game.
Matter of fact, probably a majority.
But it ain't a no-brainer.
Like, I give Denver 0% chance of winning in Buffalo this week.
Like, there's a bunch of other matchups that I think are way more.
Is that line? Yeah, there are way more matchups than Walcar weekend that, to me, come across as the home team is going to dominate.
Or the team that, I should say the team that's favored.
Texans can win this game.
They've actually, look, Cleveland came in last year before the playoff game, and Joe Flacko had reinvented himself in one.
one game in December and everybody was like, oh, hell, this is not going to work out.
And then he comes back four weeks later or even less than that.
And he lays an egg.
Texans defense can hang with this group.
Offensively, they've got no chance.
Unless Joe Mixon get you four to five yards to carry on a regular basis, setting up second one short.
And somebody besides Nico Collins can go downfield.
I need some time to get optimistic because right now I'm not.
No, I mean, honestly, I wouldn't be at this point.
me at the end of the week.
Let me hear Domingo speak today at an hour.
Let me take your battle reg.
I know.
I'll come around.
By Friday, you're going to be like leading the flag.
You want to run up and down the field.
Yeah, I can't wait.
All right, 713-212-5-790.
7-1-3-2-1-2-5-7-90.
Your thoughts on the Texans playoff chances against the Chargers.
If you want to recap anything,
and again, if you bring up Davis Mills, we're not in time of the conversation.
We're just, we're a Davis-free radio show today.
We're just not doing that.
Rockets beat the Lakers last night.
And LeBron, I think Rossi would have one field going
in the fourth quarter? Did he think? I think something like that. One or two?
Got locked up. They needed a three-point or late in the game
when I thought was going to be a four-point play. Thanks for it was an offensive foul against
Tanton Davis. And I think we've got ourselves
maybe the face of the Rockets franchise.
And it ain't one of the two guys. Just got a big fat contract.
Throw that out there.
D'Amico speaks in one hour. This is sports.

Let's see what those T levels are and get them checked today with Game Day Men's Health.

Commerce, which is crazy. I'm all for it after going 41 and 41 last year. Let's go, baby.
But a man Thompson is moving up the list. God, he is freakishly athletic.
Winter gut feelings? Okay. They are tomorrow at 1130. Okay. You got one on this?
Yes. Now, you're pregnant pausing, which concerns me a little bit. I might even have to put my name on it.
Damn, you're going to make me wait 24, 25 hours for this?
Or you and tell me now?
26.
Where'd you have 25?
What's in it?
Nope.
Well, you better write that down so you don't forget what it is.
I'll put it in the box right now.
Okay.
So the Rockets last night be the Lakers.
Okay.
And as I mentioned, two seed right now.
And again, long way to go.
Long way to go.
13 and the next 17 on the road.
I mean, we keep saying a long way to go, but we're 35, 36 games in now?
Almost halfway.
We'll be halfway by the time mid-January finishes up.
That's not nothing, Matthew.
I'm feeling pretty good.
I'm starting to feel like, okay, this is just the team.
I did to tell the truth.
I have them in the top six.
Oh, okay.
That's not to tell the truth today at 1230, but I did that before.
You were gone like the whole month of December.
That's not true.
And most of January, in November, too.
It was November and like two days in December.
to have you back.
Okay, so my point is, and Wex just texts me earlier.
He says, thank you for not making a North Carolina State Houston reference on that,
because that's exactly how that ended.
That's exactly what went through my mind.
Well, I have blocked that out of my memories until I see it on ESP and you every other weekend.
Yeah.
I don't even immediately is what I thought of.
Sorry.
Well, I interpreted differently as an man anticipated that ball being an air ball.
No, it was a pass. Nice pass from Jalen Greene.
Yeah, yeah. Does he get the assist on that? I hope he does.
I don't even know if he did or not. I don't think he would have because that was definitely in a shot form motion as compared to a pass motion.
A man's really, really, really, really, really good.
Place four positions. He had to last thing.
You know, Jabari's not going to be probably out two months, so, you know.
It's going to be a lean lineup when you have Brooks, a man, Freddie, and Jalen.
You're not, you just know girth, right?
It's not girthy enough for you?
It's not like a Davis-Mills neck.
Hmm.
Okay.
That's, um, hmm.
That's a weird analogy, but it still works.
A cross reference that you'll only hear on the Matt Thomas show.
Yeah.
Yeah, they're going to be shorthy.
I like Jabari Smith Jr.
I was talking about it last night.
In the Rockets Wrap program.
I didn't listen.
That's okay.
Inserting them in Thompson.
I mean, and you could hear it, uh, I mean,
Maybe I can go find it later,
but there are,
Udoca's asked about it in the post game last night.
Like,
what is different with Amin Thompson
in the starting lineup?
And even before the reporter could finish their question,
it's like everything.
He's just so,
he's always just ready,
like he's ready to praise.
He almost.
He's insane.
He's so athletic.
He's so good.
He's such a high basketball IQ.
20 years old, by the way.
And can hip toss people like a muda.
Just learn to shoot.
And he is going to, you're unlocking an all-star player.
Yeah, I don't know if he'll ever get to that level that you're looking for.
But, and he has shot better this year than last.
It's not significantly better, but it's a little bit of an improvement.
He's working on it.
Here's the reality of it.
He's going to be allowed to shoot, not allowed, he's going to be given the opportunity to shoot threes because they're going to leave him open.
They're going to continue.
Last night he had variety of open looks.
Because teams are going to sag back on him
because there's no need to put a hand in his face
because it's not a great permanent shooter right now.
It's all about the question is finding
he has to find his ceiling
and to find his ceiling he has to work hard
and I know he's going to do that.
So he's going to reach in that terms of his
in that facet of his game,
he's going to reach his full potential.
It's a question of where is that, right?
Steph Curry's full shooting potential
is higher than anybody else's ever on the planet.
And he's obviously worked really hard,
but there are people who have worked on their shot
as hard as Steph Curry, but they can
certain something you don't have that you can't
shoot that. And I don't want to get too minutia in the NBA,
but there's Andre I Godala, is a guy that had a
15-year NBA career that did everything
in a men's Thompson doing. My guess is that
a men's doing in an earlier age than
Igodala did, but Iguodal was never a great shooter
and never became a great shooter, and that's
just new, that's who he was.
I have a,
it's not an apples to apples comparison,
but the name Draymond Green
comes to my mind. Guarding
everyone, Playmaker,
has a very high basketball IQ,
smart defensively and offensively,
and it is because it's a Swiss army knife on the court.
They're built a little bit differently.
They are.
Dremont's more of a real true four slash five.
In more of a, right, guarding a five,
but I just mean in that type of player.
Yeah.
That is an extremely valuable defensive weapon.
I mean, he was locking up LeBron James last night.
He was getting pushed around in the post,
but he wasn't biting on fakes,
and he was contesting the shots.
He was making it hard on LeBron James.
Yeah, Draymond's a 5-by-5 player.
I can see, I can see
Amen doing that, and I think because
a men's athleticism, he might want
of being a better defensive player than Dreamon, but again,
it's not a true comparison.
Draymond is, I mean, he's been defensive player of the
the year caliber. And I'm in Thompson, right now
to me, his first team all defense caliber.
But LeBron last night
had to work for it. He had a great third quarter,
but was really not seen much in the fourth quarter
at all. He was knocking down a bunch of deep threes. I mean,
that's going to happen.
I'll tell you who was the best player last night
for the Lakers probably was Austin Reeves.
And then, you know,
Anthony Davis got going.
Anthony Davis, I mean, he's just,
man, he's a different kind of athlete.
Like the length and explosiveness
and all that with Anthony Davis?
Anthony Davis's biggest detriment
to his resume is that he's always hurt.
And it's not the broken leg
serious, it's the got hit
in the eyeball and is out for two weeks.
It's the, got a scratch
on his shoulder blade. He's out for
week. I mean, it's the fluky stuff.
Yeah. He hit 30 and 13 last night with five blocks, and you kind of hardly notice in a way.
He's the only, I think he's so casual. He's so casual. Right. He's just, yeah. He's just out there doing his thing, man. He's so good.
So let me ask you this, because we don't have an answer to this. There were a lot of Boston fans in the arena on Friday night.
Yes. There were a significant number of LeBron fans in there.
There were a lot of Lakers, people in Lakers gear.
Now, Conor, I want to ask you this question.
I don't know if you know anybody in your life, Connor.
That is a Rockets fan, but also a LeBron fan.
And your general thoughts about that?
Yeah, the person, I went to the game last night,
the person I went with was a LeBron fan
and would cheer for LeBron every time he scored.
But then it would also cheer for the Rockets win.
I felt like there was a lot of that, actually, in the building last night.
Just the way that it sounded.
It felt like to me there were a lot of Rocket fans in the football.
building but those people were not
afraid to put the LeBron gear on because they really
love the LeBron more than they love anything else.
They were wearing rockets red but would cheer
very loud when LeBron's wore.
Dude, look, I know there's
a lot of controversy and people hate him and all that
type of stuff. You're talking about
an all-time legend that if you were
in the building last night, you saw one of the all-time
all-time grades. And here's
the thing. He was 40 years old and nearly had a 20-point
triple double. He looks
I mean, is great
too easy of a term? He looks
Now, he can check out of some games
And maybe acquiesce to some other folks
You know, if I'm the Lakers,
I don't know if I want Doreen Phiney Smith
Shooting over as many shots as LeBron does
Or close to it.
I don't know if Max Christy's going to move the needle
But
Damn, when LeBron wants the ball
And takes over games,
He hits these incredible side
Eight-foot shots off the backboard
with a hand in the face.
He doesn't hate cheapy threes.
He hits deep threes.
Now, he's not a great three-point shooter.
He's been adequate.
But he's been better later in his career.
There's just no slowing,
there's not significant slowage of his overall play.
And we're blessed for it.
I mean, I think, and I always go to this card
that, you know,
in your lifetime as a sports fan,
what have you been blessed to see?
I've been blessed enough to see
the greatest basketball player of all time.
I think the second blessed player of all time
I think I've been able to see the home run king
The strike one
Well, Barry's, you know
It is what it is.
The real one A's with you. Check the record book
Look who's first in home runs.
It says Barry Bonds.
I saw the strikeout king.
Yes.
I've seen the greatest golfer.
Is it Chris Carter?
No, no.
I've seen the greatest golfer for about an eight-year stretch.
We've been pretty lucky.
LeBron right now is averaging 24.
points, 7.6 rebounds and almost 9 assists.
And he's 40. How many people have done that in a season in their career if you do that?
If you got somebody on the Rockets right now, if Amin Thompson was averaging 24, nine assists and 7.6 rebounds, you'd be like, oh my God, he's crushing it.
LeBron is doing that at 40.
And said last week he could go five or six more years.
And I don't die, he couldn't.
Yeah.
I think he's going to go five or six more years because what I think is going to happen as soon as he.
retires, he's going to become the owner of the Las Vegas NBA franchise.
He'll have enough money to basically maybe buy it himself or at least have to have majority
ownership.
Yeah, has he, no, I know he's, I think he's part investor.
Is it Liverpool, FC?
It's a European, I mean, you can put this down on the all-time gut feelings, but it's
going to put my name on it.
LeBron James is going to own an NBA franchise.
He's going to have enough money to be a majority owner.
Not like, you know how like Tom Brady's on like a sliver of the writers.
this is LeBron going to be running this operation.
Yeah, he's part owner of Liverpool,
which is, I mean, that's one of the big six clubs.
What kind of investment is that?
I mean, I don't know what percentage he has.
But Liverpool is one of the heritage teams in England.
It's one of the big, what's called the Big Six clubs,
and they're leading the Premier League right now.

More Matt Thomas show with Ross. Now on Sports Talk 790.
What Rockets Jersey should I get next is Georgian Cyprus?
We will give him the answer to that in a couple of moments.
1050 on Sports Talk 790.
I want to go over the, this is an awful announcing website,
which is a media watchdog website.
Very, very good.
It concerns what's going on at FS1.
So apparently there was a hairdresser.
Yes, named Nushin Faraji.
Have you seen what she looks like?
Not that it matters.
What's the first thing you brought up about her?
I'm just saying, I'm just curious.
Apparently,
who worked for the company?
During a haircut, Skip Baylis referred to her as voluptuous.
Hmm.
English being her second language, Faraji was not familiar with the term.
Per the filing, Mr. Baylis seemed amused and told her to, quote, figure it out.
Hmm.
Ms. Farage later asked a co-worker that, what the word meant and was mortified.
Mr. Baylinson started being more aggressive and directed in his advances.
Ms. Faraghi continuously declined, stating that she did not date at work and she's a single mom and needed her job.
Ward then comes out that Skip Bayliss was going to offer Ms. Faragey one and a half million dollars for sex.
Now, this is what she alleges.
That's a very random number.
In a lawsuit.
Well, it's a very high number.
Well, I mean,
How do I...
I'll let you finish.
It's too high.
Sex only should come in a certain value.
Dinner, wine,
maybe a movie, flowers.
Not a million and a half bucks.
Yeah.
Trip to the in-laws.
A call.
Weekend in Fredericksburg.
Yeah.
Going to the Nutcracker Festival.
That's sex.
Because guys, that's just the antichrist for us.
$1.5 million, a little steep.
And, okay, and I'm not calling her a liar, but that just seems like out of control.
Is she sure she didn't add it a couple extra zeros on accident?
July 2021, Ms. Faragey developed issues with her left over and was advised it could be cancer.
She explained her situation to skip, hoping that he would take pity on her and cease his advances.
Instead, Mr. Bayliss told her that he wanted to be with her.
Ms. Faraji panicked and began rambling that there were cameras everywhere, that she has a child, and that she does not want him.
Mr. Bayliss then grabbed her hands, began kissing them, and offered her $1.5 million to have sex.
Ms. Faraji had an excuse to leave.
Now there's more to it, right?
Okay.
So...
Read the next paragraph that you just left off.
Mr. Bayliss then told Ms. Faragia did he fantasizes about having sex with her and asked how much money it would take for her to have sex with him.
Ms. Faragey stated that she already refused
1.5 million and that her answer
wasn't going to change. Mr. Bayliss replied
the more you say no, the more I want you.
Oh, Jesus.
Come up, Skip! Come on, Skip!
Come on, Skip!
Skip! Skip!
Skip! Mr. Bayliss, what are we doing here, folks?
Approximately one week later, Mr. Bayliss made another advance.
Oh, geez.
Mr. Faragi said, stop, Skip, you have a wife.
Mr. Baylis responded, aren't you Muslim?
Doesn't your dad have three to four wives?
Oh, Skip!
Ms. Farage responded that her father was dead, and when Mr. Balas looked taken aback, she made an excuse to leave.
Why would you say this, Skip, allegedly?
Okay.
So now you have to help me finish the story because there's a now as a Joy Taylor aspect to it.
Yeah, there's another allegation in the lawsuit.
Well, just kind of a detail, I suppose.
Fox executive Charlie Dixon.
Excuse me?
Charlie Dixon.
Okay.
That's his name.
All right.
Good thing it's not Richard Dixon.
gives Joy Taylor undisputed as a reward for having sex with him.
Okay.
In 2016, Ms. Taylor asked Ms. Faraji, now called Joy Taylor the host, Ms. Faragey, the hairdresser, to meet for a drink in Santa Monica.
When Ms. Farage arrived, she found Ms. Taylor with an older man, Fox Sports Executive, Vice President of Content, Mr. Dixon.
Mr. Dixon responsible for overseeing all content and production on FS1.
from their body language
Ms. Faraji suspected the pair
were sleeping with each other, although this concern
Ms. Faragia, as she knew Ms. Taylor was recently married,
Ms. Farage, kept her opinions
to herself.
Dixon apparently gropes Farage
at a party. Joy Taylor says,
quote, get over it.
This is messy.
Meanwhile, Joy Taylor is
having sexual relations with this
Fox Sports executive
and with one of her co-host
Emmanuel Acho.
What do you go to school?
Manuel Ocho, that would be the Longhorn.
That would be the University of Texas Longhorns.
Okay.
This is a feather in the cap for the program, I'd say.
So essentially what we're finding out here is that Joy Taylor is like, get over it,
and I'm knocking boots with a bunch of people here at FS.
One, leave me alone.
Well, just two.
Let's see.
Dixon fires female talent member for refusing to have sex for them.
This is what is alleged in the lawsuit.
Dixon pays off Joy Taylor's then-feiante in exchange for science.
about their relationship is also alleged.
After learning of Ms. Taylor and Mr. Dixon's sexual relationship,
Ms. Taylor's then-fiancee broke off the engagement and threatened to go public.
It was Earl Watson, wasn't it?
Yes.
Former NBA player.
And coach on information and belief Mr. Dixon paid for the wedding deposits in an informal exchange for hers fiance's silence.
Fox employee harasses Faragey but isn't fired because of his role in supplying cocaine to numerous Fox employees in Thailand.
Perfect.
It's also alleged in the lawsuit.
I think what I would recommend is I would recommend all of you go to awful announcing.com
and read this whole thing because it just gets more and more salacious.
Wow.
Some wild stuff going on here.
If you look at Joy Taylor, if you hit Joy Taylor on your social media accounts, it's not going to be very flattering.
What do you mean?
Oh, the mentions.
The mentions of her will be not very flattering.
Yeah.
The people who have, I was going to say her pictures and videos are flattering.
Yeah, by the way, her brother was Jason Taylor, who's a longtime Miami Dolphin.
So.
And that's today's salacious sports television report for the day.
All right, George is in Cyprus here at 1107, or 1057.
We'll start the opening hour with him.
He wants to ask me, what Rockets jersey should he get?
Do we have the same answer?
Maybe.
We'll find out.
Texans beat the Titans yesterday.
They're aFC champions, South champions, again.
They hit the over.
on 10.
They did?
When it was nine and a half.
Wow.
That's great.
I owe somebody...
Just as I predicted.
I owe somebody a moderate state dinner.
Oh, I think that won me some money.
Let me go look.
I'll owe you so money too, Vaughn't I?
For what?
Charitable purposes.
Oh, yeah.
You do.
Deadbeat.
Rockets win last night.
My Cougars won on Saturday.
Cougars playing a TCU
tonight.
Your Longhorns.
lost to A&M in college basketball on Saturday.
Yeah, second half was not pretty.
Correct.
The Middleson had a great time.

The front office and the coaching staff of the Colts remains in Indianapolis.
Not to be said for Doug Peterson fired today as the coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
That's a shame.
Geron Mayo out at one year in New England.
Like immediately.
I mean, Robert Kraft wasted no time.
They must have like, we goofed.
Because Gerard Mayo was a guy, was like the protege.
Yeah, he was a coach and waiting type of deal almost.
Yeah, not good at all.
What happened?
Was it that bad?
You know, I don't know.
We don't know.
And no, we're going to particularly care.
But, you know what?
Good for them.
I mean, yeah, I can't.
I mean, I don't want to see Gerard Mayo.
Jorraud Mayo will get another opportunity, unless it was just such a train wreck that they were like, you know, no good.
Well, the conspiracy theory is that he didn't follow instruction.
to lose.
Oh.
A la Lovie Smith.
Do you think that you would get fired in the final week of the season over one loss?
Or one win.
I don't know.
Hmm.
I'm not saying that's what happened.
I'm saying that's what the theory on the Twitter streets.
Okay.
That's what the streets are saying, Matt.
The streets don't lie sometimes.
Sometimes they lie a lot.
They lie quite frequently, actually.
All right.
We know the Texans are going to play next year.
They will play home for Arizona.
When?
I'm just kidding.
Are we doing this?
Might as well.
It's okay.
I'm okay with that.
Really?
No, why not?
Arizona home.
Win.
Denver?
Win.
Las Vegas.
When?
San Francisco.
Los?
They will travel to Sofi Stadium twice for the Chargers and Rams.
We'll say to split those.
They will go to Arrowhead for the third time in five years.
And, you know, this is terrible.
This schedule is not organized very well.
Let me do the home.
road. I want to make sure I do the right ones here. No, no, no. We can... Here we go. I got it
for you here. Let me just go down to the AFC South. This is a girl at great radio. South. Home games.
Colts, Jaguars, Titans. Win, win, win. Broncos. Win. Raiders. Win. Bills.
Loss. Cardinals.
Win. Fortignaners. Loss. Buccaneers.
Let's go loss. So you got, what do you got it? What's their home right?
No, they only play eight games.
Oh, wait. What?
Oh, five and three.
Wait.
Three, six.
No, they got nine home games.
See?
Six and three.
Six and three.
Okay.
Six and three.
They were five and three this year.
Okay.
Road games.
Colts.
Win.
Jaguars.
Win.
Titans.
Loss.
Chiefs.
Loss.
Chargers.
Loss.
Ravens.
Lass.
Rams.
Win.
Got to start and put some wins in here somewhere.
Seattle.
Win.
So what's the record?
I think I came up with 9 and 8.
No, it's better than that, I think.
I think.
You don't know what they're going to do for agency.
I mean, 9 and 8, 10, and you're right.
What if T. Higgins comes here?
I mean, Steph Dix comes back.
I wouldn't count on that.
He could.
I wouldn't count on it.
I would like it if he did.
Now, if he wants to come in on a minimum deal or a very low deal?
It would be a low-proof-it deal again, because he mean, he's coming off an ACL injury.
Yeah.
And he said everybody in Houston, he said, was like family, Matt.
Yeah, we wouldn't...
He wouldn't just say that.
We heard the same thing from Bregman.
I'm just kidding.
And Springer and Correa and Tucker.
Yeah, but Steph Diggs is different.
He's loyal.
Oh, my God.
You are such battle red.
It's ridiculous.
I'm kidding.
George and Cyprus at 1105 on 790.
George, good morning.
Good morning, y'all.
I know my question seems lame,
but I'm trying to get my...
Well, my girlfriend,
or fiancé is now into Rockets basketball.
Nice.
I have a dream.
Yeah, I agree.
I have a dream.
jersey. That's the only basketball jersey I have.
The team's dream, of course.
So I did want to ask y'all, who
should I get next? Because I don't buy
these lights. They're expensive. And I just
thought of this on the spot, but I wanted to ask
Ross how he feels about the Ohio State
game upcoming.
I'm not feeling great
about it. The run game hasn't been
very good the last few weeks. And then
that means you're counting on Quinn yours to win
you games. Now, he did do it against Arizona
State. He was spectacular in
overtime. But it's
also not something that I'm going to consistently
that is going to consistently happen.
The defense is really good.
As long as they don't get worn out like they did,
I think
really about a touchdown dog,
which is where it's at,
feels about right.
I feel like the Longhorns can pull it off, though.
By the way, if any of you are Longhorn fans
going to the game, the weather in Dallas
is supposed to be terrible later this week.
Just be super careful if you're going to the Cotton Bowl.
Yeah. It's supposed to be real icy up there.
Yeah.
Let me tell you, I can live with snow.
Ice is a different animal because first of all it's hidden.
I think you called for this.
But back to your question.
He wants a jersey.
You can't go wrong with Alpi.
You can't go wrong with Jalen.
You can't go wrong with a man Thompson.
I'm going with the third option.
Are you looking for like a stable player that's going to stay on the roster the longest, George?
Yes, that's actually legit what I want.
I want someone like who's going to be here in Alpy.
Alpi was my first inclination.
that's who my Beyonce likes.
But again, I'm just curious what y'all thought
because I love the show.
I just want to you, y'all.
Appreciate you, George.
Thank you for listening.
I would say this.
Thank you for the phone call.
If there's an untouchable and the world the NBA can change,
there's one untouchable in the Rockets.
It's a man Thompson.
It's a man Thompson.
That's what I'm saying.
Now, if her favorite player is as Alpe,
to me, I might put him second as far,
but I could see him being moved.
I mean, everybody has a price.
A men Thompson can get moved.
There is nobody that is 100% untouchable depending on the deal.
Like if you're giving away a men Thompson and getting back a star that's going to be...
Would you trade for men, Thompson, for Devin Booker?
How much longer is Devin Booker signed?
I don't even think it's about the length of time.
I think it's about the money that you'd have to spend.
No, that's about time for me.
Okay.
I was sorry.
Tillman's got money.
Tellman can break the bank of you want.
It's not about paying.
It's about cap is what I was talking about.
Right. Well, that's what I'm saying.
Tell him he can go over the cap.
That's true.
He can get all the aprons.
He's an apron guy.
By the way, if any of you ask me what an apron is, I will say something you wear.
He's got restaurants and aprons, and he's got all that.
Yeah.
I don't feel good about it. I don't feel good about it.
If the Phoenix Suns call and said, we've got a deal. Devin Booker can be yours. He will wake up in the morning scoring 32 points a game for you. You have to do that. But we want him in Thompson.
supposed to be painful, Rossi. Exactly. It hurts. It hurts.
But I think you would have to do that. The reason why I think you would do it, and I'm not endorsing it,
because I don't think it's either one of those things are going to happen, is because, again,
the only thing that amend would probably be a liability for would be a guy that you'd count on
for consistent perimeter game. But damn, Rossi, did you see, we played the highlight a minute
ago. The heave-ho of Jalen Green, a man gets to the rim, knows it's going to be sure,
grabs the ball and jams it in.
He's a hellacious offensive rebounder.
He's a rim protector for his size.
He spent yesterday trying to guard the second
greatest player in the history of the NBA
and had no problem to him.
Well, and he's 40, though, but I understand.
And he has a nose for the basketball,
offensively and defensively and defensive.
He's always in the right place at the right time.
He has value.
He's ready to throw hands, too.
Is he the best player on a championship team?
No.
Can Devin Booker be the best player in a championship team?
Yes.
Okay. Janus for a man
Thompson. Oh yeah. Okay.
Come on.
Let's see. Give me another one here.
We'll see what's going to hurt.
Yeah, it hurts.
Okay. Jimmy Butler, no.
No.
Who's out there wants to be traded that would be very...
Here I'm assuming.
Edwards? He's not leaving Minnesota.
Well, he's going to eventually because I always get grumpy.
Dierrin Fox?
Oh, Dary and Fox for a man, Thompson.
And one for one?
De Aaron Foxes one more year.
You're closing your eyes. You're having a pontificate.
I will say, no.
I guess.
But see, let me ask you this.
I don't want to overrated in Thompson.
I love a man, Thompson.
If you were a general manager and you were going to wiggle it like you are now.
Wouldn't you wiggle, if you wiggle, does it mean the answer is typically going to be no?
No, like you said, it has to hurt.
But there's so much about, I mean, LeBron James was heaping immense price.
in him last night. Yes. We'll have some of that
on the news at noon. Oh, we will?
Yes. Coming up at the bottom of the hour,
D'Amico's going to speak. It was supposed to be at 1 o'clock
today, but he said, you know what? I want to put it in the prime
of the Matt Thomas show with Ross. He's like, man, we've got to
get ready by Saturday at 3.30, so
I'll talk to you today and don't bother me

Normally we have to tell the truth at 1130, but since we got the Domingo availability at 1130,
we're going to move to 1230.
And Ross, I've got four takes, three of them which I believe.
It's your job to find the one that I don't believe.
It's harder and harder these days.
Do you think it's easier to figure out which is the lie or which one is the truth of the four?
I don't know.
It's fine.
It doesn't matter.
Okay.
Well, three of the four, I believe, and one I don't.
Okay.
By the way, I did put a poll question up today.
You did?
You know, you love polls, Matt.
Poll questions, thanks for asking.
Paul question.
We call you the poll master.
Thank you.
The greatest tradition in sports.
The four options were the masters.
Army Navy football.
Okay.
The Kentucky Derby.
Texans wild card game at 3.30 on Saturday.
Overwhelmingly, it's the Texans wild card game at 3.30.
Really?
The greatest tradition in sports.
Now, somebody did put up on Twitter.
It would have made a lot of sense.
Astros playing afternoon playoff day games.
That happens too.
I'm going to go with the Rose Parade.
Are you really?
Okay.
I didn't think that was on the list.
The greatest tradition in sports.
Which of those four do you want to go see still?
I would like to see the Masters, but I want to walk, so I'm going to have to skip that one.
We don't want to walk.
Yeah.
If I get a cart and drive around and go to the various holes, I'd do that.
It's not that much walking.
I think you'd get a lot of steps in, for sure.
sure.
Should be fine.
But if you're ready to do that,
I just don't love golf enough
to spend six hours
walking 23,000 steps.
So if somebody offered you
tickets to the Masters,
you'd say no.
No, I would absolutely go.
And I would try to get
a club seat at A Man Corner.
Just sit there.
I really...
God, you're the fanciest of Mats.
I really want to go
the Kentucky Derby.
Really, really bad.
Why don't you go?
Is it difficult?
How does that even work?
It's not difficult.
It's just ridiculous,
expensive.
You'd probably have to have,
if you wanted to do it,
And I'm not saying luxury.
But if you wanted to have a suit and your girl wear a nice dress and get her a hat and you fly up there and you spend two nights hotel.
Crush like 12 mint juleps.
You're probably looking at $10,000.
Okay.
And I mean, as much as I want to go to Kentucky Derby, I don't want to spend 10 Gs on the Kentucky Derby.
Well, you have two connections in the horse racing world.
Max not doing that anymore.
Bregman now.
Bregman might help.
If Braggs, you're listening, I will go with you.
He'll be able to.
able to hook you up once he gets that contract.
Yes, he will.
Army Navy football to me, I don't have a dog in that fight.
It's great, but it's always usually in like 23-degree weather,
and I don't want to spend three and a half hours outside.
Texas' walk-card game feels about right.
There are three automatics
since the show began 15 years ago.
Well, one of them is not happening much anymore.
Texas playing in the Alamo Bowl is no longer automatic.
You guys are playing for championships.
Back-to-back final fours in the playoff.
Texans 330 games and Astros 1 o'clock baseball playoff games.
Yeah, don't sleep on Texas.
And by the way, people have asked me on this, why does this happen?
It's about sex appeal.
The Astros have been typically the least sexy baseball team in the playoffs,
especially when the other team is New York or Boston.
It just makes sense.
Yeah.
They're trying to draw in as many casual fans as possible in these games.
Houston Texans doesn't light up the eyes of casual fans.
It just doesn't.
Sorry.
But if you win, you ultimately would.
Because let's face it.
Baltimore may be a bad example.
Because they were winning before.
Well, 25 years ago, the New England Patriots weren't, didn't really move the needle for anybody.
Yeah, when Drew Bledsoe was the quarterback of the Patriots, it was cool, but it wasn't like you had to see what a Patriot game is all about.
You have to win and get to win at a high level for a long time.
For instance, Detroit.
Detroit is one of the sexiest teams in the NFL right now.
But Detroit always plays at 1130 on Thanksgiving Day because they're the least.
attractive of the Thanksgiving Day games.
Yeah.
Always has been.
But now Detroit, I mean, Detroit's big and good.
Yeah.
And fun.
So it's all about star power and you're good.
And the Texas has been good, but you're looking to be great.
Right.
I mean, what, back in the 90, nobody cared about the Kansas City Chiefs.
Not at all.
Not at all.
But the reality is, and you have another team, even though it's L.A.,
people in L.A. don't care about the Chargers.
No.
They just don't.
So it just fits perfectly.
And the Astros Tigers Wildcard last year,
Detroit had not been the playoffs in a long time.
Astros had been there a long time.
And you've got the, who was in the wild cards that were big?
I mean, it didn't really matter.
Other cities are just going to have, you know,
the Phillies, New York, Chicago's are going to have a larger national fan base
and the Astros are, even though the Astros have had such tremendous success
for the last seven or eight years.
Yes.
you know to me
if you want to call
disrespect I guess you could but does it really matter
you win you keep going that's the most important thing
you want to be in prime time keep winning games
like I always said with the cougar basketball team
if you're playing at 1130 in the tournament in the tournament in the tournament in the
bracket you're not getting out
things are going to be good for you yeah the final four will
be in prime time that they will
that they will 713

again we'll get to the
Dimeco availability coming up in less than 10 minutes
from now.
This might be a strange take for you and I've only got a few minutes to do this.
The college football playoff has been cool, right?
Yes.
I mean, there have not been nail biters.
I thought the Texas game, obviously, with Arizona State was awesome.
That was a nail biter.
But there have been very few things.
I've been close games.
Is there any thought?
Now, you've got a dog in the fight, so maybe this is the wrong person.
But is there a chance these games could get swallowed up because of the
NFL playoff are about to kick in.
They're not going
head to head. That's true.
But like I didn't know until this morning
that you guys are playing on Thursday.
Well, no, Longhorn's playing on Friday.
Okay.
Thursday's Penn State Notre Dame.
Yeah.
Is there sometimes
are you saying perhaps it's oversaturated
because there's so many playoffs games?
I'm saying that
we've dreamt Rossi of these
amazing tournament
college football games.
And when they're on, we'll watch.
Yes.
But I think collectively America is really trying to size up their Super Bowl bracket
more than their college football bracket.
Well, yeah, the NFL's bigger.
What do you want college to do?
I don't know what I'm saying.
This is a question that may have no answer to it.
Okay.
What's the question?
The question is, are we going to lose that momentum that we had with interesting games last weekend
because the NFL playoffs are about to start?
I guess the answer would be if you're a college football fan,
you don't care if your NFL's going.
If you're a fan of Ohio State, you don't care.
But I wonder if the numbers will be as...
They lately tuck the games Thursday and Friday.
They're Saturday, Sunday.
They're staying away from it.
We have 40 games. A great football, hopefully.
Really? I mean, if you're a football fan, period,
you've got a bunch coming up here.
It'd be a nice weekend.
And then the Rockets on Saturday at 2 p.m. against the Atlanta Hawks.
So I will need to put together my...
game for that broadcast.
No, that's when you bring your
D-minus game.
Do you say just mail it in?
Oh, yeah.
What, you're not doing that already?
That felt rude.
I know, you're right.
You know what?
That wasn't fair.
You do a great job.
You tell me yourself to be nicer to me in 2020-25.
You're right.
You'll be a great job, Matt.
Fantastic.
Spectacular.
All right.
No, I'm just saying that the college
kind of had its own little world for a while.
Here's my, I guess, I'm going to give me
stupid answer the initial question. How about just getting everything
done before the playoffs start?
Go in rapid fire right after?
Well, maybe push the season up a little bit. Maybe start
August 50s. Let's see what the ratings are. I don't know.
I mean, the ratings have been good.
Yeah, they have been good.
That sounds great to me. Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, all great football.
Yeah. Go Texas.
Say hook him horns.
Hook him horns. That's what I'm talking about.
I want a dog in the fight. Are you kidding me? You don't have a dog.
I want a, I want a, I want a rash.
I know your whole house can be rooting against the long ones again.
Oh, hell yeah, they are.
But because your basketball team is not going to be great this year.
No, they're not.
It's been at best.
That's fine.
Yeah, a French tournament team right now.
Cougars comfortably in the three-seat in the South region says Bracketologist Joe Llanardi.
Are you already checking up on Joe Lannardi?
Oh, hell yeah.
Really?
Absolutely.
Well, I guess it's all your school has to cling to, so I get it.
Are you kidding me?
We had one of the best transfer portal classes in college football this year.
College football history.
I'll take it.
I don't know if we're paying these guys or not.
I mean, I assume we are.
Yeah.
What do you think they're all?
Got to be, right?
They want to go to third ward, Houston, Texas, just for fun of it?
Hey!
Beautiful campus.
Vibrant.
Yeah?
Lush.
You mean vibrating from gunshots?
That's enough from you.
All right.
You said you're going to be nice.
Oh, you're right.
Dang it.
I'm sorry.
Hey, just like any New Year's resolution.
It takes a little time where you just don't get to it at all.
So by what, February 15th?
I'm trying.
By the way, happy New Year to you.
And happy New Year.
you, Matt. Thank you very much. 713.

Matt Thomas, Ross Villarreal.
It's the Matt Thomas show with Ross on Sports Talk 790.
Here's D'Amico.
Chargers or some of the matchups.
What do you think of the overall football team and the way they're coach?
Yeah, man, we're really excited about, you know, this matchup versus the Chargers.
Really well-coached football team.
You can see Coach Harbaugh's imprint on the football team instantly, just how sounds.
they are in all three phases, very sound football team.
They can run, very balanced offensively, run the ball well.
Of course, you know, Justin Herbert is one of the better quarterbacks than the league.
He's done a really great job.
I think it's just protecting the football, right?
He doesn't turn the ball over a lot, and it's a lot to be said for a quarterback who does that, right?
It really puts his team in really good situations, move down the field.
They're good on third down.
I think Coach Mentor has done a really good job with this team.
Just eliminating the deep pass, they do a really good job of, you know,
playing a shell coverages, mixing the coverages up.
And this week we got to find number three, Durwin James.
He's all over the place.
Talk about blitzing, a blitzing safety, nickel, whatever DB position you want to call it.
Like, Durwin is playing lights out.
He's an impact player.
We have to have awareness for where he is.
at all the times. Their edge rusher is also good players.
Been doing it for a long time. Mac and Bosa, a really good tandem there on the edge.
So, you know, we have our hands full, as it should be, in a playoff matchup, but we're excited
to go against a really good football team.
You talked about a little bit after the game yesterday.
How much what you saw yesterday really helps you guys do some of these things you just
address it have to happen?
Yeah, what we did on yesterday, it was just getting back to, for me,
Just getting back to the basics, I said, just playing football the right way for us, just going out and executing.
As I know, I've mentioned that a lot, and that's what it looks like when our guys do it the right way,
just eliminating negative plays offensively, put it together, a solid drive, moving the football, and finishing with points.
That's something that we've been harping on, something we have to do better, and we were able to do that yesterday,
and I'm pleased with the outing that our guys had, and I thought he did a really good job there.
How have you seen CJ evolve in his leadership in his second year?
Do you have any examples of how you've seen him maybe change or it maybe hasn't changed?
I don't know.
Yeah, for CJ, when it comes to the leadership piece, it's from CJ being authentic.
Because I think everyone sees when CJ is here and his interviews and everything.
CJ is authentic.
He's real.
It's not only here.
It's in the locker room around the guys.
And that's what leadership is to me.
Like, as you evolve as a leader, you just be.
authentic to yourself. You don't have to make up anything or make up a speech or make up something
to say to guys. You're just, CJ is being CJ. And that's what our guys feed off. C.J.
just being himself, being authentic as a leader, understanding that is not all on him.
As a leader, it's all of our guys just buying in, doing what they have to do. But also,
CJ understanding a lot of guys are looking up to him on the team. And, you know, he takes that
role seriously. But it's not a heavy weight for it.
him, right? Because we have other leaders as well around him with Will, Aziz, other guys that step up. So, I'm proud of CJ and how he's, you know, continue to grow as a pro and it's only his second year. And he'll continue to thrive and be better, you know, as a leader of our team.
In a similar vein, you know, CJ play well Sunday. How do you like where he is? Because obviously he's been tough on himself, but how do you like where he is playing while?
and as you all prepare for this match.
We're all in a good spot, man.
We're ready to go play football.
We're here.
It's the playoffs.
We're ready to go play football.
Can we be the best team on Saturday?
That's all that matters for us.
We're just bringing up Herbert again.
He doesn't get too much creative about he's running ability.
How can you take us on that challenge you will face that?
With Herbert and he's a good quarterback all around when it comes to, for me,
it starts to him throwing a football.
football and just the weapons that he has.
The one that sticks out to me is, is McConkey.
The guy from Georgia, man, he's an elite route runner.
Very shifty, he moves all over the place.
You can tell they have that instant connection between, you know,
McConkey and Herbert, and it's a real connection.
He's all over the field, making plays for him, catching a lot of footballs,
and he's a dynamic player.
I think he has a very bright future in his league.
In your estimation, I mean, you've been around the playoffs quite a bit in your career.
Is there a different level that everyone gets to this time of year?
At this level, of course, the intensity, it picks up, right?
Everybody understands what's on the line, what's at stakes here.
So the intensity definitely picks up.
And the game is sped up.
It's faster.
It's more physical.
And that's what playoff football is about.
So, of course, you get your opponent's best.
They're going to get our best.
That's what everybody likes to see.
That's why you want to be here at this time of the year.
Still playing, playing playoff football.
Everything is sped up.
Everything is more physical.
It's more exciting all the way across the board.
So we're excited about it.
To make up the play of the O line, you talk a little about that.
Success you guys had yesterday.
Knowing you're going to have to mix them back this week, obviously, as well.
But the Pierce also doesn't think that.
With our offensive line, I thought our guys did a good job yesterday
just when it comes to the, when it came.
came to protecting when they came to the run game, you know, staying on blocks, staying attached.
They've been allowed us to have some success in the run game with Joe and DP running the football.
I thought our O-Line did a really nice job of creating some lanes there.
Of course, our backs.
DP, of course, did a really great job playing on great vision.
When the space wasn't there, he was able to create on his own and break a really long run.
They're so proud of DP for what he was able to do.
And O-Line, also, with the protection, I thought they did a really nice job of giving our quarterback's time.
quarterback stepped up in the pocket.
Both CJ and Davis
and made some nice plays off schedule there.
So, I mean, we're headed in the right direction.
We just have to be more consistent all the way across the board.
What do you make of?
Their offensive line, it feels like a pretty good tackle duo.
Probably one of the better ones you guys have faced.
They're pretty decent interior.
It seems like they've been able to get a couple different running backs going at different times this year.
Yeah, their offensive line is one of the strengths of their team.
I started with the tackles, too, you know, left tackle and right tackle,
with two really good players.
We have two good players on the edge as well,
so that'll be a matchup that I think everybody's looking forward to.
We have to find a way to win on the edge versus their top players.
Interior-wise, they also do a good job of working together.
They ran the ball well, different backs at different times,
and ran the ball well.
It's going to take a collective effort, right?
All the way across the board for us defensively,
I think the key would be our interior delimmoner playing really well
versus some of the run schemes that they have.
What advantage to see you and CJ and Will last year
was the first time that y'all were in the playoffs.
What advantage?
Do you all feel more, I guess the word,
is comfortable heading into the playoffs this year
as compared to last year?
To me, it's right here 2025 now.
I'm going to say 2024.
But right now, 2025, we just focus on the present of, you know,
our team, what we have here now.
Last year is last year.
Entirely different locker rooms.
different group of guys.
Like how do we make the most of our opportunity here right now with the guys that we have?
Just want our guys to, you know, really live in that moment, right?
Of where we are right here right now with what we have, let's go make the most of it.
Obviously, Will had a really great rookie season, but do you feel like having Danielle with him has elevated his game to another level?
Will has definitely had an outstanding year this year as well.
He's gotten better, probably double.
his production.
He's got so much better.
Run game, past game, just overall.
To take the leap that he's taken his second year has been really impressive to see him,
you know, take that leap.
And he's a dynamic player for, impact player, for his leader, like everything you want.
And I think DeNeil has definitely helped him, you know, having DeNille and just their
relationship, their bond.
And what Will was able to learn from DeNille when it came to just, I think at the top of
the rush,
Like that moment of truth, being able to find ways to escape and finish on the quarterback.
And I think having to kneel here to have another guy to listen to, along with Coach Rod and Coach Native,
doing an outstanding job all the way across the board.
Our entire D-Line has done a great job.
Been the strength of our defense this year.
I'm proud of all the guys, coaches and the players, they've all done a really great job.
On last year, you all had the success that you all had, some people.
You know, wasn't expecting that, especially what the franchise had been through the previous three years.
And so you all were learning to deal with that, you know, as far as what came with that success.
This year heading into the playoffs, you all came into this season, expecting to be, you know, where you are on the trajectory that you all know.
How are your younger players dealing with that now and their mindset heading into this second year as far as going to the playoffs?
The mindset of our young guys, like, they just want to play.
They love playing football, right?
And that's how I like them.
Like, their mentality is straightforward.
Like, let's get to it.
What's the next opponent?
What's the game playing?
Let's go to work.
And that's how I want our guys to be.
It's just laser focused on what matters right now, right?
And we'll have guys who have experience in the playoffs, guys who don't have experience.
At the end of the day, for me, when the ball is snapped, like, are you doing your job or are you not?
Are you playing with the Texans' relentless mindset or not?
Like that's what matters, right?
And our young guys, older guys, it doesn't matter.
Our team collectively, we have to play complimentary football.
Everybody has to, we have to play smart football, eliminate mistakes, right?
Play together, and that'll be good enough for us.
She's kind of playing with a fresh start, forgetting about last year and just living in the moment now.
Is that also kind of applied to this just completed regular season, how we got here, what it did, all that, kind of just, we're here now, let's go play?
Yeah, we're here now, let's go play.
For me, like, nothing else matters, right?
It's how are you playing right now?
Are you playing your best ball going into the playoffs?
Like, that's what matters most, right?
And are you able to consistently keep up with that when you are in the playoffs?
Can you continue to play a good ball?
Can you continue to play the game the right way, not make silly mistakes?
Can you put yourself in favor positions?
Can we, you know, get better scoring in the red zone, defending in the red zone,
those situational elements of the game, third down, red area, those are the areas where we have to be really good at here in the playoffs because, you know, good teams aren't going to make mistakes.
You have to find a way to beat them.
Like last year, we have Bob Slovak involved in the hiring cycle with him.
You know, a question about the chance.
Where do you see him grow as a coach, and obviously not every season is as smooth as last year?
Where do you see him deal with the ups and downs in the season?
Yeah, I don't know if any season is smooth, right?
You have a lot of ups and downs, even, you know, when you win and kind of those things kind of go under the rug.
But they're ups and downs as coaches.
And as coaches, you have to grow and evolve.
You have to do things different.
And sometimes you set out to do or you have a mindset of doing things one particular way.
And you always have to kind of tweak those things and do what's best for the guys that you have and what they're capable of doing.
So I see where I think Bobby has definitely grown in that area.
of being able to adjust and put our guys in position to where they can be successful.
People always say that football is a game of pitchers, but against the playoffs,
how slim on those margins?
And in what ways, like, are the details even that much more important?
At this level, if you make a mistake, it can cost you.
Every game is sort of like that, but here in the playoffs, even much so because, even more so,
because, right, all the teams that are here, they deserve to be here, right?
And they wouldn't be here if they weren't good teams.
So if you give good teams, like, more opportunities to go score,
they're going to find a way to score so you cannot have, right, the mental mistakes here in the playoffs, right?
You cannot have the penalties, like all those things where field position is definitely a huge battle.
And we have to win that field position battle each and every game.
And it's even more paramount now.
but it's just a matter of being on the details, man,
being confident in what we're doing and go and play.
What about –
What about –
What about – we saw it in John and then talk.
Deonté, you saw – we saw it a little bit from yesterday.
How confident he can really help you guys this week
and do you think he could be more part of what happens on the deal?
Deontze, I was really impressed with his last week of practice.
I thought he picked up on the things we were asking him to do.
I thought he really has really nice catch,
his nice plays throughout practice.
out in the game, we were able to get him a little involved in the game as well, and I thought
he handled himself really well. We'll start to continue to feed him more, see how he can help
us. The skill set, the talent is there. It's just a matter of him just integrating into our
offense and making sure we put him in positions to where we can accentuate his talents, because
he's a talented player. He's made a ton of players in his league, and it's exciting to see what
he's able to do on the practice field. So I'm excited to see that come to life on your
game day. So he's done a great job.
Happy to work with Deonti.
He's been a pleasure to work with.
Domingo, for players who choose to do
their rehab here who are on the
IR, and I'm thinking
of a guy like Jalen Petrie, in what ways
do they help and are still
part of the team, even though they can't really close?
Yeah, Jalen has done a great job
of just being around
each and every day. Like, even
though he has rehab and all those things.
Jalen is still in our meetings. He's out at
practice. He,
He cares.
Like, he's involved.
He wants to help other guys.
And, you know, it just speaks to who Jalen is as a man.
And why he's our Walter Payton man of the year recipient
because he's just, it's bigger than football to him.
Like, he wants, he has that heart to help others.
Not only here in the building when he can't go out and physically play,
like he has that heart to help others in the community as well.
With the Mills program that he's helping his kids with here in Houston.
So, man, I'm just happy to have Jaylon.
around love having them around you can't have enough special people around jalen is one of those
special young men that i love love the coach coach um a lot of your colleagues now former colleagues
are you know losing their jobs you know at the end of the regular season we all know that this day
comes but for you to some even after one year how hard is it to have the type of success and be the type
of coach that you are in those first two years knowing that that window is so you're so
short. And for me, man, just look at every day is a blessing and I attack it that way. Like,
I'm grateful for the opportunity I have to serve here with the Texans. I'm grateful for the
people that I get to work with. I think that's, that's what makes it even better. It's just the
people, right? The players, the staff, the support staff, ownership, just everybody being on
the same page, right? It helps, like us move in a direction where we want to go, right? And let's
continue to progress, continue to move our organization forward, and that's everybody being on the
same page. So I'm happy to work with the people I work with, and they understand our business,
I understand how tough it is to be successful each and every year in this league. So I never
take it for granted, right? And I'm thankful for our guys and their attitude and for them,
the way they work. Anything I ask those guys to do, they're about it. So that's what makes it
easy for me. And man, it's
a blessing to
be a head coach of the NFL
football team. And I never lose sight of
that, never lose a sight of how hard
it is to be successful.
It's unfortunate when you see guys
lose their jobs. And
also, I think unfortunate part about it
is also you just see it's almost
like everybody's waiting to see what
it happens. Like, that's kind of
a little upsetting to me.
Like if you're kind of hanging
or hanging around waiting to see
something bad that happens to someone else but
had to think about the families they're involved
not only the head coach but the other
coaches who are on staff, kids who are in school
is bigger than just oh this coach got firing
that's the new cycle and let's keep it moving
like I think about the families who are affected
by those moves and it's deeper than
just the head coach moving on and you get someone else
all right thank you guys
all right there is some thoughts
It sounds like D'emico Ryan's cup is half full,
giving lots of respect to the Chargers.
Are you surprised by any of that?
No, I mean, he's been media trained.
You know, there are media professional out there that train coaches.
Okay.
There's also people that train,
that say they're media trainers.
They have like 45 views on their YouTube page.
All right.
So we'll break it down next.
Are you okay?
What's wrong with you?
Let's go.
We got two hours.
to go.
713.
212.790.
713.
212.790.
Rossi, we have some
Rockets breaking news.
Okay.
We're going to save it for the news at noon?
Yeah, sure.
Why not?
You know when we come back for a 30 second segment when we come back.
Hey, hey, hey, hey.
713, 212, 570.
So let's check with all the DEMICO checkpoints next.
Sports Talk, 790.
More Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Now on Sports Talk 790.
Stand by.
We will be having some, I mean, I wouldn't say significant rocket breaking news,
but something that will, I think, you know what we'll do?
We'll lead it off of the news at noon.
We don't want to tease that long.
Sometimes you get teased too long and then, you know,
why not getting all flustered,
unless you're George Taylor's friend.
Not even.
See, you're dangling bait and I'm not taking it, Matt.
You need to.
No, I'm good.
I'm not going to dangling.
as much bait as I have in the past.
See, I'm stayed away.
I am staying
so far away.
Okay. 713-212-5-790.
7-1-3-212-5-7-90.
The news and news is coming up.
1230 will have to tell the truth.
And then
Ross and friends at 1 o'clock.
Oh, yeah.
Dan, if you're listening, come on in.
Todd, Rice University,
790 at 1156.
Todd, good afternoon.
Good morning, that is.
What's up?
Thanks for having me, guys.
Sure.
It's always a pleasure.
Thank you.
I just had a question about, like, at the end of the game and we're on a 15-yard line,
and we don't go for the touchdown or a field goal.
Just, like, you know, they're wearing our jerseys.
Like, why wouldn't we try to, like, why can't, they already went there.
Why can't we go there?
Because the current players and the coaches don't.
don't care. It's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, there's nothing, there's nothing to it.
There's nothing that resonates with anybody wearing either one of the uniforms that says,
we owe them an extra beat down. They just don't care. I think I just, I think I just got called
old. Well, I mean, I wouldn't, I wouldn't, I wouldn't, I wouldn't, I would. No, I don't,
you know, they don't, you know, they know that I'm one thing that's old, though you had,
here's what, here's what yesterday's game was, Todd. It was a bunch of young guys,
on both teams getting playing time they normally wouldn't get
so they can prove that they're worthy of coming back next year
or maybe going somewhere else.
And it was an opportunity for the veterans to play a little bit
before the Texans started playing the playoffs.
And then third, it was don't get hurt.
So you don't have long season-ending injuries
and or long rehabilitation off-season.
So in terms of the minutia of the X's and O's and play calling
and what should have been called and what not should have been called,
I don't care because the Titans don't have a future.
year at quarterback at this point, unless
Will Levis has an amazing offseason, which
you know, Thomas Sports Enterprises
remains bullish on.
They've got a decent running back, but
can't stay healthy. They've got a decent
front seven for the Titans.
The Texans have got a major overhaul coming
up this year offseason because they're going to have to
fix the offensive line. They're going to have to get
wide receiver depth.
It just wasn't much to the game
that had a lot of sticking points
to it.
Yeah, no, I just have a lot of
animosity.
Yeah, me too.
I grew up an older fan.
And as I said before, Todd.
And I love how you use the word minutia.
Oh, I'm a huge fan of the word minutiaeat.
Thanks, Todd, of the phone call.
I do love the, I do love the uniforms.
They're fine.
I don't like them as much as I used to.
I mean, they're just, they've soured it.
They've ruined it.
Yeah, Amy Kronk-Strunk has.
I really wouldn't like, you know how you're talking about stepping back?
Yes.
I'm going to step back.
Good. I'm proud of you, Matt.
Not say a word about her.
Winning on the field is the best revenge.
Yeah, yeah.
And you can change a logo all you want.
You went three and three, were they three and fourteen?
Yeah.
I mean, I hope you enjoy that.
I got the number one overall pick.
In a draft that quarterbacks aren't number one.
Correct.
Is Shradar Sanders going number one?
There are a lot of people thinking I don't think he's the first round.
We always say this.
It feels like we're,
Often talk about quarterbacks like, ah, it's not a good quarterback draft.
And then they end up going like two or the two or three in the first round in the top five.
It's super early.
So we'll see.
Yeah.
All right.
713212.
579.
7132-579.
How the Rockets do last time against the Lakers.
And there was a little bit of a roster shakeup.
We'll tell you about that as part of the news at new.
And after I tell you about the folks at the Shell Federal Credit Union.

Lunch timers, this is the Matt Thomas Show.
1202 at H-Tal. What's happening in lunchtimer?
Welcome to the third hour of four of the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
This is Sports Talk 790, where every day at 12 or thereabouts,
we present to you the main headlines of the world of sports
and sometimes things off the beaten path.
We go to the news center for the news at noon.
And the man presenting that news to you, our good friend, he's the Edward Murrow of sports journalism in Houston.
He acts as a real radio job as compared to a YouTube channel.
Right.
It's Ross with a real.
All right, Matt.
Thank you for the news at noon.
We'll go to some breaking news out of Houston.
That's one.
Is this a tour?
It's two max.
Let's go to.
Let's give it a second one.
What you got?
Rockets number three.
overall pick,
Reed Shepard has been assigned to their G-League affiliate,
the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
We asked coach about this last week.
He said everything has been discussed on the table.
Seemed like it was in the works with him not playing at all the last few games.
Or really, it was a garbage time, I think,
is the only time he had been getting in.
So Reed Shreppard, struggling in a rocket uniform,
now sent to the G-League to get some.
some seasoning.
Yeah, it's DMPCDs, is what it's been.
Yeah.
And if he's going to get his jump shot back,
he might as well doing it on a court against live competition.
It just once again shows you Rossi,
and it's every case is different because Victor Weniamah has played immediately
and was number one pick.
He's a different prospect than Reed Shepard.
But it just shows you even top five selections because Reed was, what, three?
Yes.
Well, also in one of the weakest drafts of all time, according to pundits.
That is true.
that draft status does not matter.
It's playing time and being able to get into rotation.
And at this point this season,
Reed Shepherd has been unable to get into the rocket rotation.
And they need a jump shooter.
That's no one for hands or butts about that.
30 games for Reed Shepherd,
averaging just three points per game,
averaging just over 11 minutes per game,
and shooting a 27.9% from three in a small sample size.
And you know what?
If this team...
Looks like the game's too fast for them.
Looks like a deer in the headlights too often.
and I don't know if the physicality and the speed is kind of just a little too much for him to handle.
Going down to the G League will be good for him.
You'll learn a lot more.
I like the pick when it was made.
We'll see what happens.
They love the pick when it was made.
They just did.
And they thought this is the, they didn't want to trade out of it.
They wanted to, this is their guy all along because this rocket team needs permanent help.
And they thought Reed was going to be the guy that'd do it.
At this point, it has not happened.
It doesn't mean it's not going to happen.
Right.
But you have just, you've given him small opportunity.
and frankly at this point, Aaron Holiday and Jay Sean Tade and
who else has kind of taken playing to Amin Thompson?
I mean, you can't take him off the floor.
He's still 20 years old.
So we'll see.
Aaron Holliday does a good job in his stead as a kind of a backup point guard.
Right.
So as long as you're healthy with Fred Van Fleet and Amend Thompson and Aaron Holiday,
Rocket's still going to be a good spot at the...
We call it the big league club.
We don't call it the minor leagues and the big leagues.
What do we call it?
Just the G League and the NBA?
Yeah.
Okay.
I don't think you even reinvent it. Yeah.
And well, Reed Shepard, wishing you the best in the Rio Grande Valley.
It doesn't be that very long.
I mean, you know, it doesn't, you know, like, now Whitmore went down for a month.
And he's playing well.
Speaking of death.
Well, he's, yeah, I think he's cooled a little bit the last couple days, but generally speaking, his return has been very successful.
That's right.
Yeah, he's been pretty good, especially as a bench score, keeping with the Rockets.
They beat the Lakers last night.
119 to 115.
Jalen Green, leading the.
the way with 33 points.
Amin Thompson with an awesome evening
as well. Not only did he have
23 points and 16 rebounds
playing really good defense.
Here is what LeBron James had to say,
not only about Amin Thompson, but
Osser as well, saying they are
simply just built different.
I mean, you've seen his brother, I think that was
yesterday's game or day before.
Yeah, they just, they
I think
Kay Cunningham said it best. He said,
they different. They ain't like the rest of us.
I've been able to do some things in my career.
And those two guys, man, they're just pure athleticism.
They love the game and you love to see that.
Pure athleticism and they love the game, says LeBron James about the Thompson twins.
Yeah, I don't know much about Austin because I haven't seen him playing against the Rockets very much.
Granted, we don't pay much attention to the Detroit Pistons.
But I think both guys have been pretty good.
I think, frankly, a man has probably been a little higher.
because the fact is that he's been more able to play.
I know Osher's had some blood clot issues or whatever, but yeah,
Amin's been playing well.
And, yeah, Amin has been putting up a lot more points than Osser Thompson right now.
Osser averaging 7.4 points for game.
Not starting a whole lot over there, but Amin also hasn't been, except with injuries.
Okay, of course you have the Texans in action this weekend against the Los Angeles Chargers,
where they are three-point dogs right now.
it is the 3.30 Saturday start.
It is Texans time, as we're going to call it, on this show.
C.J. Stroud talking about the ups and downs this season
and how it's getting him ready for this next playoff run.
Yeah, sure.
You know, those adversities and those tough, hard times, definitely, you know, build those calluses.
And, you know, we've played really well against some of the best teams in the league
and just haven't finished the right way.
So, you know, I think we get our, we get our, we guys.
of ourselves are best out by just playing
Texan brand football and so
you know those trials and tribulations
definitely are going to help in my opinion.
The adversity
helping the Texans
this weekend. Don't get me started. You're just
trying to go to me.
I didn't say he said. For the 9 millionth time
every team has adversity.
Every single one of them.
It's ridiculous.
Yeah, that's my point.
Is that no one's adversity free? Can you name
I get, you know what?
Has Kansas said he had adversity this year?
Maybe the Chiefs are adversity free.
I don't know.
Everybody in their mother's had adversity.
I don't know.
Travis Kelsey being old.
By the way, did you see his brother's TV show yet?
Jason?
Yeah.
Oh, he's on late night TV?
Yeah, sorry to last week.
Hybrid sports.
Is it sports or is it like...
It's like Jimmy Fallon of sports, basically.
What channel is it on?
ESPN.
Really?
Yeah.
Every night?
I don't know.
It was the debut last week
I didn't catch it now.
Okay.
I mean, I'm sure it's amazing.
More on C.J. Shroud.
What have they learned from the last year
that is going to help them this year in the playoffs?
I mean, really just, you know, every play matters.
I mean, it's really the same even during the regular season.
It's more apt-up, definitely during playoffs
just because guys are playing harder, you know.
It's a lot on the line.
And, you know, the main thing is just every play,
not going forward, you know, not taking anything back.
But even when things happen, you know, just, you know, staying positive, you know, that's something I learned from last year.
Some slight line movement, at least on ESPN Betman.
It was at three earlier today, now down to Chargers, two and a half.
Huh.
I don't think, generally speaking, anybody cares.
My gut feeling is Chargers, as of right now.
Yeah, and you'll have...
Hopefully it change.
I'll have more on that coming up to tell the truth.
Normally, I'm pessimistic to start the week, and then I rent myself into optimism by the end of the week.
That's generally how I work.
There's nothing they could have done yesterday that would make you think.
any differently, except for it's, you can go to the easy to use.
It's a brand new season.
Yes.
And the Texans, generally speaking, have played to their higher level at home.
Now, the Baltimore game is different, but the Buffalo game was a high watermark.
The Tennessee loss and the Baltimore loss was low for them.
They didn't, you know, Detroit was another game.
They could have won.
I don't know.
I get, yeah, I think it's too early to be sitting.
there going, it's a done deal.
But I think first gut feelings on this are pretty much going to stick the rest of the week.
Could be wrong.
All right, Matt, let's go around the NFL a little bit here.
The Jacksonville Jaguars firing Doug Peterson head coach as, I mean, the owner, Shad Khan,
talking about how he was going to lead them into the new era at the beginning of the season.
Trevor Lawrence going to make the leap.
And, well, it didn't happen this year as he has now been.
fired. Also, Brian
Dayball and
is it Joe Shane, I
think. The general manager of
the Giants is going to stay in place
and also in the AFC
South, Chris
Ballard and Shane Steichen
staying in Indianapolis.
They're both going to get gone if they don't
make the playoffs next year, right? I mean,
it's a long run for the Colts. I think so.
I have a conspiracy theory
about the
Indianapolis Colts. My conspiracy
theory because Jim Ursay was
tweeting so much about
quarterbacks before the draft when
they drafted Anthony Richardson two years
ago. I think
my conspiracy theory is that Jim
Ursay pushed really hard for
Anthony Richardson, said if you take them, I'm going to
take care of you guys, you're going to be fine.
The results haven't been what they wanted. Anthony
Richardson hasn't been developed. So Jim
Ursay's taking the hits and he's letting those guys
keep their jobs for the time being
because Anthony Richardson was his pick.
Believe me or not.
would a 70-something-year-old owner go tell the general manager what to do?
Would Jim Ursay?
Jim Ursay would actually absolutely tell them what to do.
Okay.
Jim Ursay falling in love with somebody with the athletic traits of Anthony Richardson
can throw the ball a mile, can run, can do it all, can, as far as the athletic profile of somebody built out of a lab.
But unfortunately, the accuracy has been an issue for him.
And that was the issue he had coming out of Congress.
college. So maybe these college scouts do know what they're talking about.
Sometimes they do.
But Josh Allen, I think, was the...
Josh Allen, the example of somebody who was extremely inaccurate that has improved a bunch.
And that brings me to Matt, who do you have for the NFL MVP?
Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, certainly the leaders.
Some people thinking Joe Burrow, but they didn't even make the playoffs.
Sequan Barkley on some others ballot.
By the way, what do you think about them arresting him and not getting a chance
get the rushing record.
No problem.
I agree.
It's not the real record anyways.
Yeah.
It's 17 games.
It doesn't count.
You do it in 16.
16, we'll call it a day.
I agree.
Totally agree.
Still yards per game,
the far and away leader
in a single season is O.J. Simpson.
And what he did in that 73.
That was 14 games.
Yeah.
Yeah, 14 games.
In the 73 or whenever he did it.
Eric Dickerson taking a lot of jabs and then had to kind of backtrack on a little bit.
He said he didn't want to see him.
the record. I don't see. Why is that a problem?
Yeah, if I have a record, I don't want you to break my record.
Now, wait a minute. Well,
I agree with you on that. We do make fun
of the 72 dolphins every year when they always have
a champagne toast. I haven't brought that up in years.
Now, granted, they're like three guys left from that team
in our life. I'm going to say, how many years
and coherent? It's more like
tapioca pudding at this point.
Uh-huh. They crack open and insurer.
They're not sponsoring.
Oh, I'm sorry. I'm binge,
burr. Anything on the off-the-beaten track?
No. All right. That's the news and noon.
We got to tell the truth at bottom of the hour.
Can't wait.
713-212-5-790.
I'm going to ask a question right now to the audience.
What's your first blush?
Now, you have a poll question about the Texans and Chargers.
Well, I did.
We'll get an answer on that.
We'll come back.
Okay.
7-13-212-5-790.
7-1-1-1-2-5-7-90.

More Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Now on Sports Talk 790.
1219 on Sports Talk 790.
It is the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
All right, Rossie.
Our gut feelings will save for tomorrow.
And you have one including the Rockets that I cannot wait for.
Okay.
That'll be tomorrow, 1130.
Wonderful.
Right now, I would have to say,
I don't feel great about the Texans' chances against the Chargers.
Chargers are playing significantly better.
I don't care about what or count what happened yesterday.
But I do believe there's home field can make a difference.
And the last time the Texans had a Saturday home playoff game,
they disposed of the Cleveland Browns and kicked some serious ass.
Yes.
Then went to Baltimore and was done pretty quick.
The Texans have the better defense.
Chargers have the better offense.
Mm-hmm.
So it evens up.
And you're going to need to be loud Saturday at 3.30.
Loud and proud.
To make it difficult for Justin Herbert to hear himself.
Think.
Maybe I'm feeling an under on this game.
What's the point number?
43.5, I think.
Okay.
So could it be a 2317 game?
Sure could.
Absolutely.
I don't think 3124 is in the range.
You never know.
You never know in the NFL.
Oh, how's your poll question to do, by the way?
I don't like to give you any run on your Twitter account
because it's largely meaningless.
At Sports RV.
I just get a lot of run over the weekend.
You get more fights with people?
No.
I don't know.
People like my Oilers tweet.
Appreciate you people.
At Sports RV.
What? What did you say?
I said, imagine spending the time decorating your entire stadium
with Houston Oilers' logos and colors
and donning their uniforms back-to-back years
just to lose to Case Keenham and Davis Mills.
Losers.
Nashville and Amy Strunk Adams
Adam Strunk whatever her name is
Anyways yes I call her everything about her name because I have zero respect for her
poll question at sports RV
The Los Angeles Chargers minus three at the Houston
Texans 58%
Now of course selection biases
They call it I have a lot of Houston people following me
Oh you think percent
Picking the Houston Texans at the moment
Although the first reply and only reply
is Tesla bus driver says Texans lose by 30.
That's not, come on, Tesla bus driver.
That's a little stiff.
That's a little too harsh.
I'll take the Texans plus 30.
Plus three?
I'll let you know it Friday.
But wait a minute, you're Battle Red.
I am.
That's not.
Feel go.
Say, no.
That's just the coin flip.
Just because I'm a fan of a team does not mean I have to be a blind homer for them.
Oh, yes, it does.
I know it does for some people, including people in my left and their cougar brethren,
But no, I don't have to be a blind homer.
I can be objective.
Okay.
I mean, I can put a slant on things.
If the glass is half full rather than half empty, I can do that, but I'm not going to be a blind homer.
Will you be wearing lots of gear and bling that has your name draped all over a cowboy hat?
On Saturday?
Yeah.
No.
All right.
I don't even know what I'm doing for the game yet.
Should we have a watch party?
Yeah, where do you want to go?
I'm going to be in Atlanta.
You can watch it with me.
It's the Rockets Hawks game.
Magic City, let's go.
They'll have the game on.
Oh, for sure.
Yeah, for they great wings.
Lemon Pepper says,
is it Lou Williams?
Yeah, the thighs aren't bad either.
Connor's chuckling back there,
but the key to a chuckle
is to follow it up with a rim shot.
Yeah, I know.
I've got to get one ready.
We need more production value in this show.
Do you hear that, Connor?
The most demanding show on this station.
It is demanding more.
Well, I can just shake my head in indifference, but I want the show to be better than ever.
You're right.
You know what?
You're trying to be as strong as ever in our 16th year.
Yeah, 16 years.
16 years.
Ooh, man.
You're telling me.
You've done okay for yourself.
I'm not bad.
You've traveled from C to shining C.
I'm very happy day to day, I would say, for the most part.
I could be happier.
How can I do?
Hey!
You know what the key to those things are?
Timing.
You just want more money.
Everybody wants one money.
I didn't say that.
You hear that I heart parent company?
He's not just an employee ID.
He's a real human being.
Oh, come on.
Next thing we know,
you'll be doing shows all around the country.
And maybe even at least a state.
Who never knows.
You never know.
I'm in contract negotiations with Manhattan, Kansas right now.
Are you really?
Wildcat talk.
I'm Wildcat talk.
K-KSU.
Don't do too many Ks there, Matthew.
I know.
Relax.
Well, it's funny because
University of North Texas.
Yes.
Green wave?
You can't use their letters.
Mean green.
Mean green, eagles.
You can't use their letters to represent the radio station
because then that would really get you in trouble.
Why not?
K-N-T-U?
That's good.
What's wrong?
It's University of North Texas.
Hmm.
Yeah.
What's wrong with that?
7-1.
W-U-N-T.
Mm-mm.
It's K, west of the Mississippi.
713-212-5-790.
Trying to get yourself in trouble or trying to get me in trouble.
It's not going to happen.
O-A-I is west of the Mississippi.
As a Heritage Station.
We're getting too inside.
Yeah, we are.
We're way into inside baseball.
Come on now.
Well, look at all these Texan's calls calling in.
That's the reason why.
We'll get ramped up this weekend.
Liberty White Matt will be ready.
Yeah, I mean, look, for us.
Your Oilers are dead, Matt.
They are dead.
I told you what I would do to join the Saints, right?
No, I thought I'd go to the Texans one that got the Super Bowl,
but since that's never going to happen, I don't think it's...
Next year.
You promise?
No!
Well, how about this?
What do I do with this?
I got Texans 27 to 1 to win the Super Bowl last April.
I still have the ticket.
Why not?
It's time to light that bad boy on fire.
What do you do you want to tell us?
Yeah, this is like 27 bucks.
It was whatever I had left in the kiosk.
Okay, so it's got a decent payoff for you.
Yeah, I love for you to cash that.
I think I get like $700 and $1. Do you have a photo of it?
No, no, you're trying to steal my code?
No, I'm saying you should put a photo a photo of it up there.
It will win me $675.
That's not terrible.
But they have to win the Super Bowl.
Oh, not even get to it. They have to win the whole thing.
You know, once they lose, I'm going to do it again.
I'm going back.
Till they win a Super Bowl, every year I'm betting them on the future.
I'm not a big futures bet guy, but I will say this.
I think I'm going to go this year, like I did last year,
and pick five teams to win the NCAA basketball championship.
That did okay for me.
I want a little bit of money on Yukon.
It wasn't a great.
They were the favorites, but they did okay.
Don't bet on the Longhorns.
Don't worry, I'm not.
Did you watch a game on Saturday?
Yes, I did.
You didn't yell on anybody, throw things against the wall.
I wasn't happy.
I was an abysmal performance from the five-star store.
score trade Johnson.
You're enjoying the A&M Texas
renewed relationship. In what way?
Just it's good at being
playing each other. Let me tell you. It means more.
I haven't thought about them at all since
I've been locked in on playoffs. That's because you're just bitter.
You know, that is terrible.
Texas playing A&M is
significantly better than Texas playing Kansas State.
It just is.
Yeah, Kansas State, sure.
I've been focused on playoff stuff, Matt.
I'm thinking about the Aggies.
I don't know the Aggies are locked in on the Texas Longwoods right now,
rooting against them every week.
Were you happy they played football with each other this year?
Yeah, it was fun.
It was a good game.
I was across the country, so I mean across the world.
Oh, yeah.
You need to really sink your teeth into it.
I watched the game in the bed of my hotel room, streaming.
How was this streaming issues?
So the internet pretty good over there?
Yes, it's fine.
Yes, Matt.
They have internet and other places in the world.
Actually, South Korea has the fastest internet on the planet.
Really?
Yes.
Maybe we should do the show from there.
We could.
Good coverage.
All right, 1227.
We're going to plan to tell the truth next.
Now, just so you guys know,
I believe three of the four of them.
Okay.
So if I believe three of them,
I don't believe how many, Ross?
One.
So which one of the four takes
while I tell you about when coming back,
do I believe not to be true?
To tell the truth is coming up
after I tell you about Big City Wings.

Battle Red Ross and Liberty white-ass Matt Thomas.
What up, what up?
That's what I am.
Real pale Texans talk continues on the Matt Thomas show.
What up, what up?
Ladies and gentlemen, it's time for us to play to tell the truth a Monday feature normally at 1130,
but since we had D'Amico at 1130, we'll push it here at 1232.
Thank you very much for listening to Sports Talk 790 and the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
713, 212, 579.
713, 212, 5, 790.
Gentlemen, I have four takes, three of which I believe, one, I do not.
Which one of these four takes do I not believe?
Number one.
It's going to be a one and done for the Texans this Saturday.
They're going to lose the Los Angeles Chargers.
It'll be a close game.
It could go down to the final five minutes,
but I think the Chargers are used to not playing in front of a home crowd,
so being on the road would be no big deal to them.
I think they're a more complete team.
I do believe the Texans' offensive line is going to continue to give C.J. some issues.
And maybe Ross, something you said a few weeks ago has got some more credence to it.
Maybe CJ is just really banged up and bruised and it's just not 100% and hasn't played that way for a better part of six weeks.
Okay.
Okay.
So I got the Texans.
Take number one.
Texans losing to the Chargers on Saturday.
Number two.
My Super Bowl prediction.
I've thought about this for many, many, many hours.
Bingles, it was Bingles Eagles, I think?
Okay, we're moving forward.
Oh.
Involving teams that are still in it.
Super Sunday is going to feature, I think, a ridiculously sexy matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and the Detroit Lions.
Okay.
I have Ravens and Lions in the Super Bowl.
Sure, why not?
Number three.
If I were the Patriots of the Jaguars, I would look to what is happening in Kansas City for a
coach getting a rebirth and thinking the same thing should be done with those teams.
I'll explain.
I think Mike Tomlin's best days in Pittsburgh are numbered in terms of maybe just wanting
to get out and try something different.
Like Andy Reed left Philadelphia right away to go to Kansas City.
We got fired in Philadelphia.
He did, yes.
But there are talks that Mike Tomlin could be available for trade.
If I was the New England Patriots, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and I wanted to establish
immediate credibility.
I'm going to trade a draft pick, or a couple of them, to the Steelers for Mike Tomlin.
Okay?
I just think it's time, sometimes things can get stale, and I think Mike Tomlin in a new situation,
still got a lot of coaching time left in his body and his mind and his soul,
would be a great fit in neither one of those two places.
And take number four, there was a rumor yesterday that Steve Sarkesian could be thought of
as a potential NFL candidate.
If Steve was on the phone with me right now and say, Steve, my man, stay right where you are.
Do not go to the NFL.
Texas will pay you as much as you want to stay there long term.
You are as successful.
You're having the best run of your life as a college football coach.
Do not try to go to the NFL.
Continue to dominate college football for the foreseeable future.
I would tell Steve Sarkeesian, do not entertain any offers.
to go to the NFL.
And those are my four.
Which one of the four do I not believe?
Texans losing to the Chargers,
Ravens, Lions, and the Super Bowl.
If I were the Patriots of the Jaguars,
I'd kick the tires on trading for Mike Tomlin,
or Steve Sarkesian should stay in college football.
Which one of the four?
Am I not telling the truth?
I need some more sizzles on these next time, Maddie.
You want some more what?
Sizzle.
Why? What I do now?
Some more sizzling hot.
Oh, you want to be easier for it.
You wanted to be easier for you.
These are all valid takes.
I mean, Raven's Lion's Super Bowl.
Yeah, it could be true, but could not be.
There's no sizzle on it, Maddie.
What do you want for sizzle?
I want some bacon hot sizzling takes in these.
I'm not Nick Wright.
Well, that's true.
I don't work for FS1.
I'm not sleeping around with people.
He's doing quite well for himself, though.
Nick Wright is?
Yeah.
You sleep around with FS1 people, too?
I didn't say that.
I did not say that.
Those are the words of Matt Thomas, not those of me, Ross.
Hello.
By the way, Shannon Sharps,
It's like, ha ha ha ha.
Yeah, I think he even commented like,
hey, that is stuff doesn't have anything to do with me,
so I will not be commenting.
Everybody at Fs one.
All right.
I'm just working as a part-timer.
Yeah.
All right, what do you got?
How's Mr. Dixon doing about all this?
Who?
Anyways, all right, Connor, what do you think?
I'm throwing the Sark one out, I think.
How are you?
You think you sound the truth about that?
Oh, wait.
What?
We're finding the one he doesn't believe.
we've gone over this three times already
did we not counten do we not explain him
three to four I believe
yes I did you understand it the first time I said it
yes we are finding the one
he doesn't believe
it's it's like you're listening to something else
or you just have nothing in your brain
you're right you're absolutely right
it's a monkey banging on symbols in there
that's all I got up there I'm Christmas
I know he changes that bross but come on
but I made it very
it up. I did change it, but I told you multiple
times. I'm sorry, I zoned out.
Which one of them do I not believe?
Three of the four, I believe.
See, I'm going to put up with people?
So there you go, Ross. You might think it's four then.
I think it's three or four then.
Texans are, I think he does believe that
the Texans are won and done in the playoffs.
Ravens and Lines is a legitimate lot. I think it's reasonable.
If he's making that up, that's, I don't know.
I'm sorry, wait, he's believing this? Or no, he's making it up.
That's right.
We're trying to find the one he doesn't believe
There's three true ones in there
I'm going with three
Okay
I was kind of thinking three
Because I feel like Steve Sarkesian should
Like Matt believes he should entertain NFL offers
So I'm gonna go three as well
Do not entertain offers
Okay wait, he believes this or he doesn't
No I'm saying
Oh my God
I'm saying stay in college
Do not take a phone call from an NFL team
Okay
I'm saying Matt doesn't believe that.
Matt believes that he should.
He doesn't believe that.
Matt believes that he should.
So he doesn't.
So this is right?
But this is wrong.
We both say three.
There are people driving around Houston.
The eight people that are listening to show that are like,
Ross, what the hell are you doing?
God.
There are people yelling in their cars right now.
Okay.
I'm sorry for you people yelling.
Please bear with me.
Okay.
So if you think I'm not telling the truth on four,
you would think that I, then you would think, Matt, I should believe that Steve should listen to NFL offers.
I'm saying he should not.
Okay.
Let's just go with three.
Get it over.
We're both going with three.
I think it's three or four.
This used to be a really great segment until Ross just didn't want to listen anymore.
I'm sorry.
It's my fault.
All right.
You go with what, Connor?
I'm going with three.
I don't think, I don't think you believe that Mike Thomas is going to be 20.
Okay.
Go ahead.
I do believe the Texans are going to lose the Chargers on Saturday.
Okay.
I do believe it's the Ravens against the Lions in the Super Bowl.
Okay.
And I also believe that Steve Sarkasian should not entertain any offers.
Stay at college. Do not go to the NFL.
Okay.
Takeover.
So yes, boys, you are right.
Oh, I think trading for a head coach, I think draft picks are so important in the NFL.
Yes.
That trading a second or third round, you better be getting the greatest coach than slice bread.
And not that Mike Tammell is not spectacular.
It would be year after year after your playoffs.
But I wouldn't do it if I were then.
All right.
This is what I'm going to tell you I considered four.
Because you're NIL hater, number one.
I am NIA.
And Steve Sarkozy, and if he goes to the NFL, he's not going to have to worry about NIL.
He's going to get a lot of pay.
It's not going to have to worry about recruiting.
Not going to have to worry about the transfer portal or any of that.
Then if that was the argument then, Ross, then why does anybody become a head football coach in college?
Why does anybody?
Yeah.
I think it's harder and harder.
You got guys quitting over it as well.
Or getting out of the game.
Let me ask you this.
What's a short release?
NFL head coach or high-end college coach?
Or is it maybe the same thing?
I'm going to say NFL by a smidge?
By a smidge.
And a program like Texas, though?
Here's why I see.
Now, obviously.
NIL's working for Texas.
Yes.
Facilities are there.
Yes.
Name recognition.
Power conference.
Success.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
You're right.
It's good to be a longhorn right now, isn't it?
I mean, I can't argue with you about that.
So if everything is moving along nicely, why would you interrupt it?
Do you think that Steve Sarkisian is NIL fatigue?
He can get anybody he wants as long as he has the money, and he's going to have the money.
I would just say dealing with all of that and having guys transfer out.
How many kids are Texas?
Like, John T. Cook was a five-star recruit, and he's already transferring out as a wide receiver.
Is that happening a lot so far?
Yeah, and there's not a lot.
But you got Matthew Golden.
Look at Matthew.
You stole us from Houston.
stolen. Yeah, you stole him.
Your cheats. And you
always had he's been playing great for you.
Free market economy, baby.
Oh, I'm sorry. Oh, let's see.
Can you go, what was the record of the
University of Houston Cougars this year?
I forgot. Was it 4 and 8?
No, really. What was the record?
Yeah, by the way, shout out to you, Curtis,
I'm driving and screaming at the radio.
Thank you, Curtis. Thank you very much.
I appreciate it.
Okay, okay. So you're saying Matthew Golden should have stayed with the
four and eight University of Houston Cougars
rather than be in the playoff right now.
A commit is a commit.
A commit works both directions.
Oh, like Connor Wegman, you don't seem to mind when he's coming to Houston, do you?
Transfer Portal comes to Houston.
He was unhappy at A&M.
I can't argue his unhappiness.
He was unhappy with the average.
He loved it there.
No, he didn't.
He got cash whipped at Texas.
Good for him.
Not good for him.
He didn't break his leg if I thought I was going to.
And that's to tell the truth.
You guys both won.
Nice job.
Yeah.
I should get both wins.
You should get both wins because you figured it out.
Because you figured out the rules way before he did.
I was just confused.
Duh.
So you don't pay attention.
Next week, I don't know what to do now because I don't even know if you're going to pay attention next Monday.
I'm going to look at you guys for three straight hours.
I'm going to stare at you.
Okay, look.
I'm looking at you right now.
No, don't.
No, I'm leaving in 15 minutes.
I guess you could.
Yeah.
Oh.
And one of the Adams are coming in.
Oh, then I don't want to hear Jack from you.
You're giving three-quarters commitment to the show.
So that's what I'm doing, too.
You know what?
I was always giving 100% commitment.
Then they added a 25.
I'm giving 100.
I'm given 100% on what was originally now being asked to 125%.
I'm happy to be on for the people.
Me too.
But I'm always 100%.
Until 2 o'clock, the Matt Thomas show.
I'll be on to 2 o'clock tomorrow.
With Ross.
Taking off Wednesday because I got to travel.
Without Matt.
Thursday.
Friday.
For his second job.
Oh, you know what?
I got a second job at Chick-fil-A.
I've got to leave an hour early, man.
I'll see you, man.
If you need to, if you need to, as long as you say, your pleasure.
Peace.
You bring us back some food?
Yeah.
I'll be on the access machine from the Chick-fil-A drive-thru line.
You want some Polynesian sauce or what?
Favorite Chick-fil-A sauce is?
Polynesian for the win.
Follow by barbecue, least favorite, the Chick-fil-A sauce it is.
See, I'm fist-puppet you on this.
Thank you very much.
Thank you.
It's so overrated.
I don't even know the chick-a-radit.
I don't even know what it looks like.
I don't know what it tastes like.
Yeah.
What's up?
Chick-fil-A sauce is overrated.
Chick-fil-A sauce, you suck.
Finally, we agree on something food-related, which maybe means I'm
wrong 1244 sports talk 790 i want to welcome a brand new member to the sports talk 790 family it's a
scott callahan and associates i had a chance just uh what was it friday i thought to talk to scott
and he is a personal injury attorney that wants you to be as comfortable as you possibly can
when it comes to dealing with unfortunate some accidents and that and it's got a possibility it just is
and I don't want it to be,
but you have to have somebody that you absolutely trust,
and that's why you have to go with Scott Callahan and Associates.
And I'm going to tell you more about them after this.
Good morning, strippers.
Shower with the Matt Thomas show.
Wash off the glitter and daddy issues.
Quick headline check.
Texans on the practice field.
More like just working out, reviewing things.
they'll start really getting after it tomorrow.
I think today's their off day maybe, because that's weird.
The Saturday they have, I think today's their off day.
Tomorrow they'll start practicing the Plex Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday's a luck of a walkthrough, and then Saturday,
$65,000 plus will be at NRG Stadium?
Will they be there in time for kickoff at 3rd?
Ready to go, baby!
You know we haven't played, we haven't played the fight song all year long.
That terrible Clay Walker song?
It's absolutely horrific.
It's so bad.
It's so bad.
what we need.
A Gordy parody.
What's the deal?
Have you talked this?
He said he wants
restaurant trade.
Okay, well, you're going to have to provide that.
What if I pay him?
Okay, yeah, give him some straight cash, homie.
That's the gift card accepted everywhere.
How much cash would it take
for me to get Gordy to do a parody?
He'd actually give a damn about.
You're going to have to talk to him about that.
Is he worth...
Like I can't do it for last?
love of the game. What is it for the good of the show?
Exactly. The good of the station.
If we win, he wins.
Yeah.
He's going to want trade.
Okay, well, what if we get...
That's up to you decide. Yeah.
We're going to take a fitty. Fitty spot?
Well, we can get him some food to a Cajun restaurant here in town.
He's back home.
And they're in Crackland's Cafe somewhere around here?
Oh, I thought you're talking about Cajun Meat.net or whatever.
Why don't we buy him some Boudan balls somewhere?
Yeah, see, now you're just going to offend him.
He already doesn't like when we make fun of Louisianaans.
Why? It's a great state.
Well, because we're parodying Louisiana.
Good food.
Oh, gosh, I love Louisiana.
Interesting dialect.
Yes.
Teeth optional.
It's a really gentle speaking.
Corrupt politicians.
Yeah. And bad roads.
Horrible roads. My goodness.
Yeah.
And high crime rates.
That's great.
Fantastic.
All right.
By the way, the Saints
almost beat the Buccaneers
speaking of New Orleans sports.
Yes.
That was really weird. Could you imagine
if both the Saints? Now, Carolina did beat
Atlanta in overtime yesterday,
but it was moot.
Yes. So, I don't know.
Mm-hmm.
Any surprises, and we'll get to more of this
as the week progresses. Any first blush
team's going to upset.
I'll put people on
upset alert, Matthew?
All right, put it this way.
Minnesota is a point and a half favorite
So that's not of surprise if they go to L.A. and win.
No.
That's the Monday game?
I hate these Monday games.
Tampa's a three-point favorite at home to the commanders.
I could see the commanders winning in Tampa.
Yeah, three seems like a lot.
Philadelphia is a four-and-a-half point favorite at home against the Packers.
I could see Green Bay covering that.
Commanders have won five games in a row and they go on the road to be
three-point dogs of the
Buckingneers. They're struggled.
And they didn't limp
into the playoffs, the Buccaneers, but I mean
they struggled. They did. It was
a lot closer game than I think that anybody thought.
I think the Broncos are going to be in
for annihilation in Denver. That
spread is, what is it? Eight and a half.
Oh, yeah.
Nine.
Yeah.
I mean, can you convince yourself that
Josh Allen's going to falter in the playoffs again?
Not against Bo Nix.
So let me ask you. And I brought this up to you a couple
times. Whose fan base is going to flip out more when they lose, if they lose? Is it Buffalo's
fan base? Baltimore's fan base? Or is it, let's see, who would be the third option?
Baltimore? Was it Baltimore? I guess it would be just those two. Yeah. Eagles fans would flip out.
Eagles, but the Packers are good. Yeah, but I mean, if the Chiefs losing the
in the playoffs this year, they've had two straight
Super Bowls. Yeah, so it's a shut your bum ass
up situation. Enjoy yourself.
Yeah, I think maybe Bill's, just because they've been
snake-bitt their entire existence of the franchise.
Yeah. And this has been a great
era for the Bills. I mean, they've been
Super Bowl contenders the last several years. But are you prepared
for if the Ravens lose for Lamar Jackson
hate?
Adnauzia.
It's almost, you know, it's comparable to James Harton is what it is.
James Hardin regular season is awesome.
James Hardin postseason. Meh.
I think Lamar
Jackson is, I mean, it's obviously different sports, but relative to his peers.
Well, I don't know.
James Harden won an MVP too.
He was in the discussion several years.
I didn't mean to make that comp.
Am I, am I two, is that, is that a bad comp?
I think Jackson's horrible.
I think Jackson at his best is better than James was at his best.
Yeah, why does Josh Allen always get a free pass, though?
Somebody's not getting a free pass.
Bill's Mafia will attack Josh Allen if they don't go to the Super Bowl.
Yeah.
That's why this year is going to be very painful for somebody in the AFC.
Somebody, yeah, I agree.
One of those two quarterbacks are Pat Mahomes might send them both home, as he's done before.
Joe Burrow, not in the mix.
Do you buy into what the chiefs were thinking that we should not even allow Denver,
we should absolute Denver to kick our ass so we don't get the Bengals potentially to go to the playoffs?
Is that what you, or were they just resting their guys?
No, no, I think they were thinking.
Were they actively?
Did they throw the ball to the Broncos to allow them to score?
No, but I do believe that I think they were scared.
I think everybody was scared of the Bengals making the playoffs.
Keeping the Bengals out was absolutely a good idea.
Look at the Bengals and what happened.
You look at all those.
Because here's what happened.
Almost every game they lost was a field goal game.
Because Cincinnati won, the Jets beat the Dolphins.
Mm-hmm.
And if the Chiefs would have won that game, or as I would have lost that game, won that game,
they would have knocked out Denver.
It would have been Cincinnati.
Yeah.
Since then it might have been the scariest seven seed out there.
But you know what?
Go back to week one.
Remembering your big circus survivor?
All you want to do is see the Bigel's beat New England.
Why are you bringing that up, man?
I was thinking about that.
I'm not thinking about it.
I just want to pass as an anecdotal thing.
I appreciate it.
I think there were 18 people left in the last week.
Splitting how much?
$6 million or something?
$20 million?
$20 million?
Boy, the power of sports talk 790 with all those Houston people involved.
I'm glad we got them in there.
We got to go back.
That was fun.
Well, hopefully we do.
So anybody that's like, was it all or nothing?
Everybody wins some money down the road on that.
I think eight people win a perfect 20 and 0.
So 1.7 million each.
Must be nice.
Wait, I thought it was over 20 million.
Well, maybe it was the circuit contest was 20 million.
Yeah, all right.
Final hour of the show, I'll be listening.
Can't wait to hear your great repartee with the audience.
Oh, man.
It could be unbelievable stuff.
Some breakdown of the Rockets-Lakers game with maybe lots of my highlights,
opening up the final hour of the show.
you never know? No, probably not.
Okay, that's fair.
I will talk to you tomorrow from our nation's capital.
Maybe an atom will show up.
Stay tuned now.
I'm going to go with Wexler is a
minus 300 favorite over Clinton.
Hmm.
That's an informed opinion.
Clant would be like,
I was so rushed trying to get here,
and he's got two cups of coffee in his hand.
1258.
Final hour, the Matt Thomas show with Ross is next.
Lunch timer.
This is the Matt Thomas Show.
1-0-2 in H-town.
What's happening?
Lunchtimers.
This is our number four of the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Tunzo is an eligible lineman on the left side of the offensive line.
O'Smith goes in motion, Stroud throws to his left.
Pass is complete touchdown.
Nico Collins.
Nico Collins with his seven touchdown.
reception a little shoving at the end of that play that is a great honor to be put in the same category here's Pierce and Pierce is going to break free he's going to go Alts inside the 10 into the end zone
cards for Damien Pierce and the Texans are feeling good Mills to the middle pass to complete to Woods and he's got a first down up to the 46 yard line Mike Brown in on the tackle second and goal
Mills trying to run. Mills inside the five toward the end zone. He's upended. He lost the football,
and it looks like they fell on top of it in the end zone, but they're going to say that Mills was down.
36 yards to get to 1100 yards, which will put another incentive in for him.
Oliver Fubble to football. It's picked up by Barnett who's having it.
Touchdown, Texans.
Texans, vanquish. The Tennessee Titans, cosplaying in.
Houston Oilers gear. For what reason I do not know, with the 23 to 14 victory to go 10 and 7 on the year and charge into the playoffs.
Pun not intended, but I guess it works. Saturday at 3.30, their usual spot, eight times in the playoffs.
The Houston Texans, eight times the first game on Saturday. My gosh, just start calling it
Texans time from here on out and everything will be okay.
We can all save ourselves the trouble and just continue to put them there because that is their rightful spot.
Hour number four of the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Matt Thomas has ducked out.
Ross Vierre off-line solo with you if you'd like to get in.
Phone lines are open and available.
You want to talk about the Texans and this weekend.
We'll also talk about the Rockets and their win over the Los Angeles Lakers last night.
Anything you want to get to, 713.
212-5-790 is your phone number 7-13-212-5-790.
So first thing on the Texans, and it kind of, isn't it an all-too-familiar feeling that we've had with this team over the last several years to where, okay, yes, they've won the AFC South, but how far are they going to go in the playoffs?
And, of course, at the beginning of the year, I predicted in the finish 11 and 6, I thought they would establish themselves as one of the top contenders.
in the AFC. And early on in the season, they were winning games, but they weren't looking
spectacular doing it. They had the huge blowout loss to the Minnesota Vikings. And I kept
telling myself as Battle Red Ross trying to convince myself, all right, at some point they're
going to turn it on. They're going to hit that next year. Certainly they haven't shown
their best. They haven't played their best football. And that's how I was trying to convince
myself that this team was going to turn it around. Then, for whatever reasons, you want to point to,
Whether it be the offensive line and the poor play there, of course, the injuries to Stefan Diggs.
At one point, Nico Collins, but of course he's back now.
But Tank Dell, Stefan Diggs, are out for the year.
You've had all these issues on an offensive line that has been horrible.
And then just hitting rock bottom in that game against the Ravens on Christmas for everyone to see there on Netflix, 31 to 2,
was as bad as it got for the Texans to where you just, all the air was out of the blue.
all the steam out of the season.
Any trying to get kind of sliver of hope that you could convince yourself
that this team would show something at some point,
it all went out the window in that game against the Ravens.
So here we are with a bounce back game against the Titans,
who are terrible, who are literally the worst team in football.
They've earned themselves the number one overall pick.
And you got one drive from CJ Stroud.
He was a perfect six for six, 50 yards, had a touchdown.
That's good.
a step in the right direction, effectively a preseason game for him against preseason
competition in the Tennessee Titans.
And now we find ourselves again with the Texans team saying, where do we go from here?
How far are they going to go to the playoffs?
We don't think they're one of the contenders.
I don't even feel like last year where they were the surprise team and it's like,
okay, they're the fun underdog, they're playing loose, the expectations are low.
They don't know they're not supposed to be here.
those types of cliches that we can throw to.
And then they got manhandled by the Baltimore Ravens in that game,
and that end of the playoffs and the division around there as well.
And that just really was a tough pill to swallow at the end of the year.
So now you have this game coming up against the Chargers,
your three-point dogs, and we'll go along as the week goes along
to breaking down this matchup and talking about it.
But I mean, Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa,
who Joey Bosa is not as great as he has been in years past,
a little bit older, a little bit maybe more
injured, not as fearsome
and ferocious as he has been.
But a really good running game
for the Chargers with a really good offensive
line. J.K. Dobbins is back.
Justin Herbert has really come along
as the season has come along. Quentin Johnson
is breaking out before eyes.
Land McConkey's been one of the better wide receivers
in football all season long in terms of a slot guy.
So he added all up.
It's no shock to me. It's Texans or
three-point dogs. At home,
wildcard weekend on Saturday against the Chargers.
But I guess at this point, our mindset just needs to be win and then continue to see what happens.
As it plays out, depending on what happens in the NFL, of course, the playoffs do reseed.
But if everything went to chalk at this moment, your reward for beating the Chargers at home
is going to Arrowhead Stadium and taking on a Chief's team that is fresh and rested.
or maybe we can go rusted because they haven't played since Christmas.
Really, their starters, Pat Mahomes and company.
They last played against the Steelers on Christmas.
They didn't play this past weekend.
Then they're going to get the buy week as well.
It'll be 24, 25 days they're going to have off depending on if they play on a Saturday or a Sunday.
And then that's where you're going to be at Arrowhead.
If you beat the Chargers this weekend, right now three or two and a half point dogs,
depending on how you look at it.
So it's just kind of one of those things where, I don't know.
Are we just too spoiled saying they're going to not winning in the playoffs?
Who cares?
But they're also one of the seven teams in the AFC who are in the playoffs.
They win a game.
Then they'll be down to what at that point.
The final eight, as I talked with Adam Wexler when he was in, I don't know, a couple of weeks ago.
If they're in the final eight, that's pretty good.
It's better in a lot of places people would be.
You're feeling better than Titans fans right now.
You're feeling better than Cowboys fans right now.
So maybe there is an element of us being a little bit too spoiled with the way that the Houston Texans season has gone this year.
They're 10 and 7.
AFC South champions.
We would have liked to see a leap into that next upper echelon.
It hasn't happened.
I mentioned this on Twitter.
372 points for, 372 points against.
That is a zero point differential.
of teams to make the playoffs, as I'm scanning around now,
Los Angeles Rams are negative.
They have a minus 19 point differential,
but it's looking like that's about it in terms of the worst teams to make the playoffs by that singular metric.
So there you go.
That's why we're not excited about the Texans.
They've been completely mediocre, basically the entire season.
We still have question marks about the offensive line.
Stefan Diggs and Tankdale are not coming back.
You're going to be leaning on guys like Xavier Hutchinson
and John Mechie and Dalton Schultz,
who's just for whatever reason looking like a shell of himself this year.
You can get some CJ Stroud Magic.
You can get some really good defensive play of the Texans.
Still have one of the best defenses in football.
Win this game against the Chargers this weekend
and then see what happens.
That's what you're hoping for right now if you are a Houston Texans fan.
All right.
We're going to take a quick break here on the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
I see those of you on hold.
We can get to you in a moment.
You want to get in 713-212-5-7-90.
Are we being spoiled or are we being realistic when it comes to the Texans?
7-13-212-5-7-90.
As I mentioned, you have the Rockets beating the Lakers last night as well.
Coach D'Amico Ryan speaking to the media today.
We'll get to some of that.
Maybe an Adam pops in.
We'll see with you until 2 o'clock.
It is the Matt Thomas show with Ross on Sports Talk 790.
Matt and Ross return.
Returned.
Returned.
Returned on Sports Talk 790.
Well, kind of.
Ross returns.
Matt is jet-setting with the Houston Rockets.
So he is left early.
I might be joined by somebody.
I might not.
We'll see with you until 2 o'clock here on the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Rockets with the win last night against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Tomorrow they will be taking on the Washington Wizard.
That'll be a 6 o'clock start here on Sports Talk 790.
So Matt Thomas road tripping with the Rockets, you and me, and possibly an Adam, we'll see the rest of the way.
713-212-5-790 is the phone number.
7-13-212-5-7-90.
Talking about the Texans in that last segment and the win that they've had.
I mean, I can convince myself that there is a world where the Texans win this weekend.
Actually, I ran into somebody just between you and me.
I went to the bathroom during the break.
And there was somebody who works up here and like, hey,
what do you think about the Texans this weekend?
Rather than water cooler talk, I guess it was bathroom talk,
but you know what it is.
Dudes talk about sports wherever they are.
Hey, what do you think about the Texas?
They got a chance.
Can they win?
I said, absolutely they have the chance.
The formula for the Texans to win this weekend is going to be on the backbone of the defense.
Defense has been one of the best units in football in terms of yards for play allowed.
I think they're doing a really good job all season long,
he's Alshayers back. You're going to have
DeNeil Hunter and Will Anderson
Jr. healthy and ready to go this weekend
as far as I know.
Joe Mixon's going to be there.
You can establish a run. You can do basically
probably what Domingo Ryan's envisions
as most defensive head coaches
do. Establish the run game,
score some points, stop them
enough times on defense, win 23
to 20. That right
now is basically what it feels like
for the Texans and their
formula of winning this game.
Would that be the most shocking thing in the world?
Absolutely not.
Home dogs, three points and under are usually good plays in general as well.
So it's not going to be a night game, but it's going to be a playoff environment.
Hopefully, the Houston crowd is loud and ready to go and ready there for kickoff.
Sometimes there are issues with that, but not usually in the playoffs.
Not like something I'm expecting that it's going to be horrible or anything like that.
And it's not like there's going to be a lot of traveling Chargers fans.
I think you might have had a little bit of an issue with some crowd noise, if it were the
Steelers, of course, one of the great national fan bases in the NFL.
But it's the Chargers. They're in Los Angeles.
You're going to be home. It can be loud.
That's going to be good. That's going to absolutely favor the Texans defense.
You can win this game. And that's basically all you have to worry about right now.
Where they go from there, we'll see. We talked about making that progression into the upper
echelon of the AFC. You win your division. You win a playoff game. You still had a pretty darn good season.
matter where your expectations lay before the season.
713-213-21-2-5-790 is the phone number.
Jacob on the north side has been holding patiently.
Jacob, go ahead.
The floor is yours.
Yeah, man, I think they underestimate them.
The quarterback for the Herbert team,
Herbert, whatever his name.
Justin Herbert, yeah.
Justin Herbert.
This is his first playoff, if I'm not mistaken.
just like last year, at least our quarterback, you know, won one game.
He won one game and, you know, got some experience.
I think they underestimated the experience and they went last year.
I understand the 10 or 7 last year and 10 or 7 this year.
And I understand, and another thing, underestimate the coach besides LaFleur and Green Payne,
the first two years, he won 10 games.
He's the only coach besides LaFour has been done it since LaFour.
So I think with the defense is healthy.
they got a Zirback
man they're gonna
they're gonna put it on them and and you know what
I'm glad they play Pittsburgh
I was so glad they because I don't know
why they act like the
what was it the chart
is the San Diego or the charges
they named San Diego L.A
I don't know why they think they are so
I understand he got some weekend pass
some reason they're thinking
that they're passing the old school
passing in the pocket quarterback
is not one in another Super Bowl
you can forget
Mahomes is not an
inside, in a pocket passer.
He's not that.
You got to be able to do, you have to be a dual threat.
He can run a little bit, but he's not.
CJ going to give it together.
I think that he got that year experience and with that defense.
And I think they got a better chance with the Chiefs than they have to go through the Ravens.
So I'm looking forward to it, man.
I think they're going to do better.
And if they, if they win this, they're going to beat L.A.
But if they lose to the Chiefs by, you know, I think they progress.
and they're on their way to do.
I got them a couple years out from making it to the big dance.
All right, man.
All right.
Thanks a lot, Jake.
Appreciate you getting in and thank you for making the call.
Yeah, it's interesting.
You say that.
And I really can't.
I don't really disagree with you.
The funny part of the part of your conversation.
Yeah, I'd rather face the chief.
We're talking about the back-to-back Super Bowl champions with Patrick Mahomes.
Widely, some people are already calling the greatest quarterback of all time.
I'm not there yet, but I mean, in the conversation for top five quarterback of all time already at this point in his career.
And I agree with you.
Just because the chiefs, for the most part, throughout the year have looked more vulnerable than some of the other teams.
Even though they've only lost once when they've actually tried, they got absolutely crushed by the Broncos, but they didn't play their starters.
I mean, they went 15 and 1.
Are we crazy?
Are we misassessing this situation?
They went 15 in one and their back-to-back Super Bowl champions.
And I'm agreeing with Jacob that I'd rather play the Chiefs than the Ravens or the Bills.
That's crazy.
That is way crazy.
But again, it is just because the Chiefs, we were talking about point differential earlier.
As far as teams and that being that one metric, it's just one data point.
It doesn't mean everything.
But if you're blowing out teams more consistently than you're getting blown out,
you're going to end up with a pretty good point differential.
Again, we've thought the Texans mediocre all year long their point differential.
is zero.
Scored as many points as they've given up.
Plus 157 for the Ravens and the Bills.
That's pretty darn good.
Who do you think of the best team in football is?
I think it's the Detroit Lions.
They're plus 222.
So, yeah, Eagle, best point differentials in football.
Lions, Eagles, and then the Bills and the Ravens.
Chiefs are just a plus 5-9, 59.
So by that one data point, it seems like they're more vulnerable.
But when you talk about what's actually happening, Andy Reid, a week off to prepare,
and back-to-back Super Bowl champions and 15-1.
It's going to be tough, no matter who they face.
But of course, they have to get past the Chargers.
Yeah, Justin Herbert does not have playoff experience.
He's having a really good year.
The team's 11 and 6.
They weren't throwing the ball a whole lot early on,
but they really started ramping it up and not necessarily being established the run type of team
with Jim Harbaugh.
ended up with over 3,800 yards, 23 touchdowns,
three interceptions.
Justin Herbert has not been turning the ball over.
Do I think in his fifth year in the NFL that all of a sudden he's just going to be a deer in a headlights this weekend?
I don't think so.
But I think the Texans can do enough to confuse him just because D'Amico Ryan is a really good coach,
and he's got a lot of his pieces available to him as well.
So I think it is possible that Justin Herbert's effectiveness is limited by the Texans defense this weekend.
The question is can C.J. Stroud and that Texans offense do the same on the other side with Derwin James and Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa and that good secondary that they have on that other side.
That will be the question mark.
I think it's going to be a close game.
I think it's going to be a one-score game.
I think it's going to come down to the fourth quarter.
the question is flip a coin who is going to come through it's going to be justin herbert or is it going to be c j stroud
c j stroud now with one series under his belt in the last game so maybe some time to rest and recover
he'd been talking about being banged up as the season was going along how much does that matter i don't
know how much does experience matter coach dameco ryan's speaking with the media earlier today here's
what he had to say about playoff experience the mindset of our young guys
they just want to play.
They love playing football, right?
And that's how I like them.
Like, their mentality is straightforward.
Like, let's get to it.
What's the next opponent?
What's the game playing?
Let's go to work.
And that's how I want our guys to be.
It's just laser focused on what matters right now, right?
And we'll have guys who have experience in the playoffs,
guys who don't have experience.
At the end of the day, for me, when the ball is snapped,
like, are you doing your job or are you not?
Are you playing with the Texans,
relentless mindset or not.
Like that's what matters, right?
And our young guys, older guys, it doesn't matter.
Our team collectively, we have to play complementary football.
Everybody has to, we have to play smart football, eliminate mistakes, right?
Play together and that'll be good enough for us.
There you go.
You step inside the line.
Then we've heard this a lot of times from, I mean, any sport that, yeah,
playoffs or matter.
The intensity does ramp up.
it's more important, but a lot of that is more with the fans and the pundits that it is with the players in between the lines.
Because once you step on that field, once a snap is happening, you're not in the middle.
Kalen Bullock is not playing deep safety coverage and thinking, man, it's the playoffs.
No, he's trying to do his job, as he just said.
It's all the players trying to follow up on what they've learned from throughout the week in preparation and practice and execution.
the plays that are called. It's not necessarily like, oh my gosh, I'm quaking in my boots because
it's playoff football. But, I mean, we're going to see what happens and then the narrative
will write itself. The Texans win the game. Justin Herbert wasn't ready for prime time. He's not
playoff ready and all that type of stuff. But it's really about preparation. It's really about
executing in the moment more than it is about necessarily rising to these moments, in my opinion.
And in the opinion, I mean, a lot of coaches and a lot of players have talked about it.
It's just more about playing the game and playing their game than it is about necessarily nerves.
Guys normally get over their nerves very, very early in the game because once they've prepared properly and gotten their practice in and all that type of stuff, it just becomes the same game as it was any other week.
Once the, I don't want to you, for lack of a better analogy, bullets start flying.
I don't want to, you know, invoke any of those types of, but you get what I'm saying.
Once the game starts, once everything gets going in with the flow, it's just like other games for them.
And as DeMico Ryan just said to you as well.
All right, 713, 212, 570, the phone number if you'd like to get in.
No Adam will be making it.
It's me and you if you'd like to get in until 2 o'clock.
At 713212-5790.
It is the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
but without Matt Thomas, he is left early.
He is traveling with your Houston Rockets who take on the Washington Wizards.
Tonight, we're talking some Texans.
We're talking some Rockets if you'd like to get in.
Anything you want to get to as well at 713, 212-5-790.
Lunch-timers.
It's the Matt Thomas show with Ross on Sports Talk 790.
132 in the PM here on Sports Talk 790.
Ross, View, Real, with you.
a couple of more segments on the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Matt Thomas is traveling with your Houston Rockets so you can get in if you'd like.
No, believe it or not today.
Do we have any prizes yet?
Connor McGovern?
I'm sorry, Connor McGovern, as you prefer when I go into the Irish voice with your name.
We've got prizes.
We've got four pack of tickets to Monster Jam, though, we'll have this week.
Okay.
Well, that'll be later.
Yeah.
A prize horrors, go ahead and hold the phone.
You don't have to call in today.
No Matt Thomas, so we're not doing believe it or not today.
So I guess is it too, it's almost like when it's too late to say happy new year,
is it too late to do best of 2024 for believe it or not?
No.
I would say no either because I want to mail it in and I would just pick and choose.
Actually, sometimes picking best of from the year before,
whittling down the list can be a little bit more difficult than writing questions itself.
I could spend more time on it.
It depends.
Okay.
So best of, believe it or not, let's go ahead and pencil that in for tomorrow, right?
Matt should be around for the show.
He is traveling today.
and we can get you those monster jam tickets.
That'll be tomorrow at 150.
Rockets in action against the Wizards.
That's why Matt Thomas is traveling.
713-212-5-790 is the phone number to get in,
not to prize whore, but to talk some Texans,
which we've been talking, and some rockets as well,
which I'll get to in the next segment.
But also with the Texans as far as an angle,
mentioned Joe Mixing coming back,
and, I mean, he did play one drive for the Texans,
and it really went perfect, perfectly to a T because we did a lot of time speculating last week.
How much are they going to play?
Is it going to be a quarter?
Is it going to be a quarter? Is it going to be a half?
Is it going to be three drives, four, whatever?
Well, they went and got a touchdown on their first drive.
C.J. Shroud was a perfect six for six.
And that was the perfect way for Domingo Ryan's to let C.J. Stroud say, all right, I'm out.
That's it for me.
Perfect game.
Well, it wasn't a perfect passer rating for whatever reason.
if you didn't throw an incompletion
and you threw a touchdown
whatever doesn't matter
passer rating is stupid anyways but 141
passer rating for C.J. Stroud
and then also Joe Mixing with
five carries for 23 yards and then
Damian Pierce with a huge day for
the Texans even though he ripped off
a 92 yarder he still had himself
a pretty darn good day. 176 yards
touchdown as well
and begs the question
at least after the game you're thinking
wow Damien Pierce
I mean, really showed himself.
He really did a good job running.
Had some productive carries.
Is capable of busting a 92-yarder.
That is something of an element of the offense.
It doesn't exist with Joe Mixing there.
I like Joe Mixing.
But is Joe Mixing going to bust a 92-yard touchdown
and outrun an entire defense?
Probably not.
And, of course, I am not advocating for him to start
or anything like that.
It just begs the question.
How much would we see more of Damien Pierce
or is it going to be one of those, hey, we appreciate you stepping up and doing your thing in this game and this meaningless game against the Tennessee Titans.
But we're going to go ahead and send you back to the way deep on the bench to where last several games against Baltimore, five carries for 13 yards.
Against Kansas City, one carry for four yards.
No carries against Miami, Jacksonville, or Tennessee in the first Titans match up either.
So it'll be interesting to see.
I'm curious if the like I said
The initial overreaction is like you got to get Damian Pierce out there
You got to get him some more carries
Or no
Would you rather have Damian Pierce or Joe Mixon on the field
Very easy answer is Joe Mixon
So if he's healthy, ready to go
That's the guy you go with you dance with who brung you
And Joe Mixen is the one who brung you to this level
As to me one of the indispensable
Elements of this Texan's offense
Along with of course you start with C.J. Stroud
Nico Collins, Joe Mixon.
I've said it all year.
If any of them go down, it's lights out.
It's a wrap for the Texans as far as their offense this year.
You've already lost too much with Stefan Diggs and Tank Dell.
You need both of those guys on the offense.
And if you don't, it's going to be some tough sledding.
And the guy calling those plays for them, Bobby Sloke, has come under a lot of fire this year.
Again, it's funny to me.
How we can, and there are some people who had problems with Bobby Sloak last year and thought he was bad,
and he calls too many screens, he's not inventive and all that type of stuff.
But when the offensive line is playing better, you got all your weapons.
Funny how it works a little bit better with the offense and you gain more yards and you score more points.
I think Bobby Sloak is still a good play designer.
I like a lot of plays that he does call.
I think sometimes, yes, I agree with some of you that sometimes it can feel a little bit too predictable,
a little too stale, a little bit too, co-co-executive.
coaching not to lose rather than coaching to win, which is something that Joe Mixen has said earlier in this year as well.
I think it was after the Green Bay game maybe where they mentioned that, where the Texans basically played for a field goal when they needed to go for a touchdown in order to try to seal that win on the road.
And it was a not to lose type of situation that they played for.
And the offense has struggled all year long.
C.J. Stroud has regressed. The offensive line has been bad.
And you haven't had all. I mean, how many games did Tank Dell,
Stefan Diggs and Nico Collins
all three play together. I'm not sure
I don't have that number in front of me.
I imagine for some reason, it feels like Adam Wexler
knows that. But I don't.
But it's not that many. It's got to be less than
half the season at this point.
So Bobby Sloick certainly under fire
a lot this season.
Here's what Dermico Ryan's had to say earlier today
about him growing in adjustments.
I don't know if any season
it's smooth, right? You have a lot of ups
and downs, even when you
winning, kind of those things kind of going
the rug, but they're ups and downs as coaches.
And as coaches, you have to grow and evolve.
You have to do things different.
And sometimes you set out to do or you have a mindset of doing things one particular way.
And you always have to kind of tweak those things and do what's best for the guys that
you have and what they're capable of doing.
So I see where I think Bobby has definitely grown in that area of being able to adjust
and put our guys in position to where they can be successful.
Okay. So there you go.
Now, what would you expect him to say?
Demico Ryan is not going to get in front of the microphone and say, Bobby Slowick.
I mean, my God, this guy is the worst.
Never makes an adjustment. Not a good coach.
Needs to be let go from the team.
I don't even know why he's getting interviewed by teams.
Is the Jets that are interviewing Bobby Sloick?
Yeah.
So he's not going to do that.
It says he does appreciate that Bobby Sloick has been adjusting and learning on the fly.
and again, I said, I do have some criticism, Bobby Slug,
but I don't think he's terrible and I don't think he is the element of this Texans offense
that is completely holding the team back.
I don't think if you switch offensive coordinators, I don't even know who you would choose.
Kyle Shanahan somehow becomes available and he's the offensive coordinator of this team
that all of a sudden the Texans are ripping off 30 points per game
with this offensive line the stated it is.
And then after Nico Collins, Xavier Hudson, John Mechie and Dalton Schultz.
This is just not enough to work with, in my opinion.
So things do need to be addressed, certainly in the offseason,
in terms of pass catcher and offensive line.
C.J. Stroud, maybe an offseason of him.
I don't even know exactly what he needs.
Maybe partly to get healthy.
He's talked about being banged up before.
Maybe it's just some growth in maturity in his game
and kind of resetting mentally with the ghost that he's been seeing out there
in terms of pass rushers,
but he needs to get better.
And I think Bobby Sloick still can be an effective part of this offense.
It's no accident.
I mean, look, if he was that bad,
if he was in danger of being fired,
which some of y'all think, I don't think so.
I don't think that Bobby Sloak is in danger to being fired.
He's also just 37 years old, and he's still getting interviews.
Apparently going to get interviewed by the Jets,
but also some other candidates being interviewed by the Jets as well.
Who is it? Ron Rivera.
I can't remember who else,
Jets is apparently interviewing everyone, but Bobby Sloak among the names.
So if he is so bad, I know there are probably a lot of Texans fans saying,
oh, you want him, you take them.
I think he's pretty good.
I like Bobby Slovak.
But again, not perfect.
But a lot of times, I mean, when the Texans are leading the NFL, at least last check,
and like blown blocks and pressure rate allowed and stuff like that,
there's not a whole lot you can do.
I mean, you can Bill Walsh reincarnated, calling your games,
and if the quarterback's running for his life every other play
and there's guys in the backfield from blown blocks and runs every play,
there's not a whole lot you can do.
So things certainly can get better offensively for the Texans.
It's just, it's got to happen quick against this Chargers defense,
which is pretty good.
I don't think of them as like one of the best units in football.
They're very good much earlier on in the season,
but mentioned like guys like Joey Bosa,
Khalil Mack, Derwin James,
they got some good players on that defense.
I'm expecting a low-scoring affair this weekend for the Texans
as they take on the Chargers,
holding it two and a half point dogs,
three points depending on where you look.
That feels about right.
I'm not scared of the Chargers,
they're not world beaters.
They got a solid squad with Justin Herbert,
with J.K. Dobbins back.
Pass catchers are good.
Offensive line is good.
They can move the ball.
And they're going to try to do so, but they are going up against a Texans defensive unit that has been one of the best in football all season long, has their guys ready to go and going to be home with that home field advantage being loud as possible there at NRG Stadium.
Expecting a low-scoring game that comes down to the fourth quarter will reevaluate as we go along throughout the week.
You want to get in?
713-212-5-790 is your phone number on the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
713-212-2-5-790 final segment of the show by the way it's without matt thomas he is traveling with the rockets that's coming up after this very short break no fear no worries and no hair it's the matt thomas way houston sports talk continues with the matt thomas show oh my god and adam did show up what's up it's not it's not the guy that uh matt had all
odds on. That's true. I heard y'all talking. It was a minus 300. I heard y'all talking trash about me like
it's a day of the week. We were doing it in secret. Oh wait. Or right on air. With microphones in
front of your faces. Yeah. See, I thought you should appreciate that. At least we talk trash to
your face. Yeah. No, most people, a lot of people try to do it behind my back and think I don't
find out about it. But they're losers. Kind of like the Texans will be on Saturday.
Hey, hey, is that where we're going? Okay. Adam Clinton is here.
My name is Ross.
Where a Texas jacket?
I am.
Yeah, actually, I've had this for years and years and years.
My father bought this for me before I was even Battle Red Ross.
Look, at least you see the Reebok?
Have you...
That's how you know.
When did Nike switch over?
It's been years.
Have you copyrighted that?
Because, you know, your show is famous for not copyrighting phrases and then...
I think I would get a cease and desist from the McNair's for Lightning Quick if I tried to copyright with Battle Red.
It's your name.
Yeah, but it's Battle Red, Ross.
Well, I mean...
And he's Liberty White Matt.
As they've proven, multiple teams can use the same colors.
Well, it's a little off.
If you call it something different.
It's a little off.
What if you call it like Battle Red?
Maybe it's a couple pantone numbers off.
I'm not sure.
What if you called it like a different version?
Like Warrior Red or something.
H-Town Red?
Just like they call it H-Town Blue?
Yeah.
Instead of Columbia?
Yeah.
I mean, it's funny.
It is more Houston than Columbia.
That's true.
So what did you think about yesterday?
Man, Damien Pierce needs to get 50 carries next week.
He's the goat.
Isn't that a microcosm of the whole thing?
Yeah, but you were playing the Titans.
It was like a preseason game.
I thought it was great.
It was fun.
First of all, I wanted them to lose because they were wearing the Oilers gear,
which I said last year, like the Oilers stuff in my,
that's, it was completely dead for me last year.
Seeing it was fine, but it was like Will Levis in the uniforms and it was terrible
and they lost a case keen.
him. It was even worse. They need to give up this
whole charade. I mean, I like
that the national media is catching on to how
lame this is. You wait to the
last season of the year. You know
that you're playing Houston. You're only
doing this to try to twist the knife into your
fans and you get your ass beat by Davis
Mills and Damien Pierce. You get what
you deserve, Amy Adams, strunk.
I have a confession to make to you
specifically. Okay. I had
if there
are tweets that I like,
like, I really like.
I'll consider putting them in the video.
And I had yours
saved because it was so good.
Okay.
That's elite trash talk to that garbage franchise
in Nashville.
It's the only thing about Nashville I don't like, by the way.
My sister lives there, but before she moved there,
I love that.
If you've never been there.
It's beautiful.
Even the surrounding smaller towns,
I would highly recommend.
I have the best piece of cherry pie.
Is this a euphemism?
It's not a warrant.
song. Okay. It was real actual pie with cherries in it. Uh, at like a little mom and pop place.
What? Oh, I didn't say it was. I didn't, no, I'm sorry. I'm just used to somebody else sitting
in that chair and things going haywire. Being a pervert. Yeah. Those were the words of Adam
Clanton, not me, Ross. Yeah. He trash talks me on his show. I taught, I trash talk him on his show. On his own
show. When he's not here, just like me. So anyway, it's like Franklin, Tennessee, something like that. Anyway,
Tennessee is beautiful.
Tennessee is beautiful, but the football team there is, you know, it is what it is.
Yeah.
They suck.
You had, and I actually referenced this last week on our show, I was like, Ross has the right approach.
Those uniforms, however cool they still look, and I can admit that.
They look great.
Because they're ours.
They're not theirs.
Right.
It's not that towns.
But they're, you know, they've lost the luster because now you're just trying to be petty about it.
So, yeah, I had included, I had intended on including.
your tweet. Yes. And I forgot, I literally just forgot to put it on the timeline.
Appreciate it. It's still on my phone. That's all right. I would have charged you. I would charge you a
flat fee. People are like, oh, what are you edit that on? Like a free software app on my iPhone.
People think I like use a computer to do that. Give me a break. That's why I have carpal tunnel
on my right hand. Hashtag Imovie. Uh-oh, here we go. Oh, it's Titan Chris. Let's go.
What's up, Titan Chris? Yeah, you know I had a call in about your comment, Ross. Come on,
man. What did I say?
I don't understand what the
I don't understand
you know and I went to a bar
and it was full of you know
your fans or whatever
and I you know I had my
course I had my all of you stuff on
and they was sick about it right
but my whole thing is I don't understand
why you guys so upset about it
man first of all
you know she is the owner
of the team that was once here in Houston
now she's there okay so why
she should be able to wear that
and second thing is
I don't think she's really trying to put it in you guys face like you guys keep thinking it.
You don't think so?
Then how come it's back-to-back-back-year-s against Houston?
Ad home against Houston, back-to-back years.
You know what it does, what it does, Ross, is actually it's healthy for the robbery.
You know, it's healthy to create more of a rivalry with it.
So instead of you guys feel like so pissed up and taking it personal,
just understand that it's more about marketing and creating a better robbery for both franchises.
That's how I think about it.
I don't think it's, look, I just think it's lame.
I just think it's loser behavior.
You're trying, you had this terrible team that is three and 14.
You're trying to wear these uniforms in the face of you.
I think it absolutely 100% is intentional.
You think it's an accident that it's happened both times that the Texans went there?
No, no, no.
I don't think it's.
You just said you don't think it's intentional.
No, no, I said what it is, is creating a robbery, Ross.
That's all it is.
You want to create a robbery.
And I know, I know you guys take it really personal.
I'm not taking it personal.
No, she makes it personal to Houston.
That's why she continues to do it when Houston comes into town.
They don't do it when the, I don't know, the bears or the Broncos or the Browns or whoever comes into town.
You don't think it's personal on that side to Houston?
I'm saying, no, no, what I'm saying, Ross, if you just calm down for it.
I'm calling it.
Okay.
All I'm saying is, Ross, is that it's creating a robbery.
You guys try to make Dallas, you guys, your robbery.
And Dallas don't play you guys for once every four years.
The natural robbery is here between us, the Titans,
allers, and you guys.
The Oilers aren't involved.
The Oilers have not existed concurrently with the Texas.
Exactly, but I'm saying it's still an old Houston franchise.
That's all it is.
So it's nothing personal, man.
And my last thing is, it isn't personal, Ross.
My last thing is, yeah, we had a horrible year.
We had a horrible year.
But don't forget you guys have four horrible years in a row.
So when you guys say, oh, this horrible franchise, yeah, we had a horrible year.
I can't hear you from the playoffs, Chris. I'm sorry.
You know what's funny about him?
No, I love Chris. Chris knows I love him.
I let you all, you know.
For Titans fans to try and defend that, like you went to all this work.
They posted a video of the transformation of the stadium, but it's not, but the Texans fans in Houston is taking it personally.
Give me a break.
Yeah, that's causing effect.
me Adam Strunk trying to make it personal to Houston.
The Texans fans and Houston football fans in general didn't say,
oh, man, I can't believe that they might wear those uniforms.
No, it was the Oilers who are a tired name that you won't use,
except for once or twice a year when you play the Texans and the jerseys that go with them.
Did they use the jerseys any other game this year?
No.
To my knowledge, they did not.
They did, but I think they did last year.
them twice. I think this year
this was the only time they wore them, but I
could have that wrong. Oh, but it's coincidental.
It's not personal. It just happened to be
when Houston comes to town. If you
had any balls, you try to wear them here in Houston,
but you know that won't happen because they won't let
you, which is proof that you're trying
to do something. And the fact that it's
her, like, he's been dead and gone
for years now. She's following
instructions, probably. Probably. It was
probably in writing. Probably on his deathband.
But Adams is like, make sure
you never give away.
the oilers colors.
You joke, but would you put it past a guy that was as vindictive as that guy?
And by the way, Titans ignorance out there that thinks that, hey, you know, you could have had him.
You could have kept them if you just built two stadium.
They had invested like 67 million in the Astrodome, like, I don't know, not even a decade prior before they left.
It was, look, I don't even know because I was.
I can say the history sometime, but it's too boring.
I was like picking my nose in recess at that time.
I wasn't paying attention to what kind of bonds he was asking for and what we're getting voted for and stuff like that.
I think they did it in 88 after he had threatened to move them to Jacksonville originally.
And then he's threatening to do it again.
It was a war of attrition in a way.
He kept on asking for more, more, more and more.
And then at some point the city of Houston tapped out.
To me, though, I think that's why, like, he got even more bitter when the Texans turned around, like, not even three years later and awarded a new franchise to Bob McNair.
and built that stadium and built it right next to the Astrodome as it's still dilapidated and sitting there today.
I think that's why he got really bitter about it and I think that's why she's still as petty as she is.
Okay, we have like 30 seconds for you, Max. Go ahead.
I just like to say I agree with y'all on the uniforms.
I think it shows what the lack of pass and taste that the Oilers have always had and always will as long as it's the Adams family.
Thank you.
you and well just like the oilers they lost in back-to-back years did the houston texans hey clinton yeah thanks
for hanging out well i'm sorry i couldn't do it longer just one segment yeah you can go ahead and uh we'll

You know how Mad Wex gets when I do that on our show?
This is the Matt Thomas show.
All right, web blanket.
All right, well, it is the Matt Thomas show with Ross, but it is also over.
Thanks to, well, Matt Thomas for being here for the first three hours.
I don't know if he's, he's like, well, my contract is three hours.
For a guy who makes fun of us for never working.
I know, there he goes.
There he goes.
He'll be out.
Well, he's not going to be out.
He will be on location tomorrow.
Thanks to all of you for listening.
Getting involved with the show.
I do appreciate it.
Thanks to Connor McGovern.
Doing a great job producing, as he always does.
Now this Adam will be joined by another Adam.
They call it the A team that's coming up next here on Sports Talk 7-9.
