Starting point is 00:00:01 Launch timers. This is the Matt Thomas show. 1203 in a sound. Goers. We're going to cut it off because we got so late today. It's a Friday edition of the Matt Thomas show with Ross. This is Sports Talk 790. I've got another shut your bum ass up.
Starting point is 00:00:33 You do? And we're going to let the man whose ass needs to be shut. Huh. That's weird. That's why we call you the candy cane. They call me Mr. Chocolate. White chocolate? No, I'm dark chocolate.
Starting point is 00:00:46 You know what I am? I'm milk chocolate. I'm smooth and delicious. I don't want to hear you. See, you're flash in my face. Your phone flash. Okay. Clip that, please.
Starting point is 00:00:55 That wasn't bad. Well, we're going to use it anyway. And that does rub off on the entire group. It roves off on the offense line. It roves off on the quarterback. It robs off on the defense. I'm about doing the inflatables. $1,100 for three inches.
Starting point is 00:01:09 Four on a good day. I don't know. Post Malone's went country. Why can't he? They did? Yeah. Postmolone's one person, Matt. Oh, sorry. Would you calm him down? Wasn't that bad? No, it's good. It's because Connor. Connor's laughing. It's made me laugh.
Starting point is 00:01:33 D'Amico Ryan's making his first Friday noon open appearance. Dan Matthew slides in with one. Yes. Gordy in there? Gordy is in there? That's what I'm saying. We need more the other people on the station. I listen to the station a lot. Well, most day parts, there's some I don't,
Starting point is 00:01:50 but that's a different issue. I don't really listen to a ton of time. Yeah, I know. We can figure that out. The only time I really don't listen is between six and seven on non-game nights. That's, huh. That seems wildly specific. Well, I mean, I'm just being honest.
Starting point is 00:02:05 Good afternoon, everybody. The nightcap on Sports Talk, 790s. It's six to seven. It's basically a regurgitation of other shows. It's not true at all. It's a 100% original. programming last night. Okay. Let me guess. Texans, offensive line
Starting point is 00:02:18 issues. Well, we started off talking about the rockets. Yeah. We did play a couple of Bobby Sloick bites. Got you. Talking about the protection issues. Yep. And then we went, a Trey Walker was producing. We went around the NFL. Talked a little bit of Pooka Nakua and other things going around the NFL. Pooka Nakua.
Starting point is 00:02:35 If you weren't a sports fan and I said, y'all want some Pooka Nakua, what would you think I would say? Sounds delicious. Pooka Nakua. Sounds like a foreign country porridge like an oatmeal like hey we just got special flavors
Starting point is 00:02:51 what do you got? I got a special Pukanu Pukenakua. Okay. Sounds like a paella. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:57 Something from a tropical island. Yeah. Sounds delicious. All right. It isn't anything goes Friday. I'm trying to say my voice. I feel good. I still got a little bit of a cold,
Starting point is 00:03:06 scratchy throat that I think probably got from you which is fine. Well, you look like you're on your deathbed. No, I feel actually energize a little bit. Your eyes are sunken in. I'm worried. I have been concerned about a couple of things, and we will get to those on the show today. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:03:19 This is a bad day for you, Matt. It's not a great day for a lot of us warm-blooded males. You're crumbling. A little bit. I've received no less than about five texts for my friends today, a variety of listeners and or friends that are saying, did you see the headline? So we'll discuss that here momentarily. That's pretty funny. It is anything goes Friday here on the show.
Starting point is 00:03:36 713-212-5-790. 7-1-3-1-2-5-790. We'll at 1 o'clock today talk to Kelvin Samson. these exhibition games that they're usually you play like outer Mongolia or north central Arkansas or eastern Alaska you get to play like real good teams Texas A&M Aggies and the Houston Cougars are playing a major well I shouldn't say major a exhibition game that's got to have a little teeth to it
Starting point is 00:03:59 so we'll talk to coach Samson and I already thought about what he expects from his season Cougars coming in preseason number four in the nation wow number four in the nation so by that metric they should make the final for. I would certainly hope so. And second in the Big 12 conference. That she shows you how filthy. Arizona, Kansas, Houston, all in the same conference. Baylor, I'm sure
Starting point is 00:04:21 will not be far behind either. My guess is I didn't count, but I think there's at least six teams in the top 25. Wow. That's going to be a tough basketball league. Yeah. Football, not so much, but basketball is we're getting there. We're working on it. We'll talk about the Cougars, of course, if you want to. To complete breakdown of the Cougars, Utah game if you would like. Full breakdown.
Starting point is 00:04:39 I wouldn't say full. I'd say maybe a maybe a thought or two maybe tops okay i don't know we have the texans going against the colt we'll get an update on that with derrick shultz from our friends in indianapolis he used to work at that radio station but he doesn't work there anymore so we'll give him a little plug but he does about 15 under things including a variety of podcasts he's legit media and we're talking the colts like a mudda he is called you know we'll talk to derrick shultz at 130 we have non florist at 230 hell yeah and at 250 and at 1230 today we're going to get to taylor mathis a little bit here uh i would not say she's a friend of the show. I would say she's been
Starting point is 00:05:12 a conversation. He's a friend of yours. She lives rent free in your head. Ross, be better. God, I hate that term. I hate both those terms. That's why I said it. Okay, so Taylor is in some trouble. Yes. And we'll explain. Because honestly, I couldn't put two and two together. So I went to you and you were able to put it together
Starting point is 00:05:31 for us. Yes. You have a complete understanding of what Taylor Mathis got in trouble for yesterday. I saw tweets about it. And then of course, the first thing I thought about was Matt Thomas, which I I think, like you said, five of your closest friends all texted you the same thing. I will say two really good friends of men are like, and these are not like listeners. These are like colleagues that are like, what happened to our girl? And I'm like, I'm working on.
Starting point is 00:05:52 I'm trying to figure it out. So if you don't know about Taylor Mathis, we'll be discussing her at 1230. And yes, we have moved on to other people. Okay. But there's only one, Taylor. Well, maybe she'll unlock her account at some point. And you can get back in there. And as long as the Securities and Exchange Commission is not going to be chasing after her, it'll be fine.
Starting point is 00:06:10 They're launching a probe. We got that. We have another horrific call in the NFL yesterday. Oh, a non-call, yes. Non-call, but basically so bad. And we're talking about the Minnesota at Rams game. By the way, Rams put up 30 points. So if Minnesota's killing themselves over the one non-face mask call against Sam Darnold,
Starting point is 00:06:30 how about your defense make a couple of stops here? More like the Rams' offense was just juggerning out all year long, although Cooper Cup came back in the game yesterday. Fantasy defense, zero points. Thanks, Minnesota. Ooh, you had Minnesota's defense? In two leagues, yeah. Yikes.
Starting point is 00:06:44 So we'll get to that. We do have Game 1 of the World Series coming up tonight. Did you see the umpiring assignments for this? I did not. Is it C.B. Buckner? There is a website that I don't know if it's, if they label them base off of balls and strikes or just overall performance. But the umpires assigned in this Major League Baseball World Series,
Starting point is 00:07:07 there is not a top 15 guy in there. Which I would, don't you normally, even though we hate some of the NBA officials because we think they're always against our team or they think they're bigger than the game, they're typically ranked very high among those in the NBA. Yes. So this is purely on balls and strike calls. That's what I'm trying to figure out. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:29 But whatever ranking they have is very low. I would assume it's got to be balls and strikes because you're not, you're not, determining whether or not a guy can get to second base in time and that kind of thing. So we'll run through that. We have the Texans. We have rockets tonight are taking down the Memphis Grizzlies and then tomorrow night in San Antonio. So really,
Starting point is 00:07:49 it's literally an anything goes Friday here on the radio program. Love it. Is there something that I've not brought up that you want me to bring up? No, I don't think so. Okay. 713-212-5-790. That's how you reach a show. 7-1-3-212-5-7-90. If you want to follow us on Twitter, greatly appreciate that. A lot of my accounts that people follow me that have turned off are dormant.
Starting point is 00:08:09 So my Twitter account is down a little bit, which is I'm fine with. Get rid of those fake accounts. Get rid of those crypto accounts. Get rid of people that turn them off. Well, Taylor didn't get rid of the crypto accounts. She wasn't following me, so I didn't lose her. Okay. Will she come back?
Starting point is 00:08:26 She hadn't deleted her account. She's locked for a little bit. Yeah, she's trying to. Probably going to delete a bunch of stuff. Clean up some things. She's probably cleansing the account as we speak. 713-212-5-790. Cougars.
Starting point is 00:08:37 and the Utes tomorrow night, 6 o'clock TDECU Stadium. It is homecoming. And if you want to see a night of thrilling plays and hard-hitting action and unforgettable moments, you need to be at TDECU Stadium for the Cougars against the Utes tomorrow night at 6 o'clock. There's a homecoming offer that will include four tickets and a parking pass for just $70. How about that? $4.4.4 tickets and parking pass for $70. All you got to do to get this deal is go to UHcougars.com slash home.
Starting point is 00:09:07 It's easy. UHcougars.com slash home. Come early, stop by the Bud Light backyard tailgate area to enjoy food, beverage, and tailgate games. And most importantly,
Starting point is 00:09:17 be loud, come early and wear red, as we hope to pack the stadium for homecoming tomorrow for the Cougars and the Uts. UHcugers.com slash home for the Cougars and the Uts. 6 o'clock TDCU Stadium.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Be there. More, Matt Thomas. Now. On Sports Talk 790. 1218 on Sports Talk 790. Why do we have this conversation year after year after year with officials blowing late calls again yesterday in the game between Minnesota and the Rams?
Starting point is 00:09:59 Sam Arnold was taken down for a safety because there was a sack. And the reason the sack took place is because his face mask was grabbed and pulled into the ground. It would have been a bailout because he was going to get sacked anyways. The defender just happened to grab his face mask. But it was by rule. It is. By rule. He ripped them down by the face mask.
Starting point is 00:10:18 Yeah. And there's a referee like literally looking right at it. And apparently saying I couldn't see it. How could you not see it? We saw what you saw. Yeah. We have your point of view. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:10:30 It's terrible. Yeah. You must have been, I don't know, maybe he was looking at his shoes, make sure they were tied. Right when the play. It didn't make any sense. I mean, we're running into a lot of official problems now in the NFL. We're running into official problems everywhere. And again, the issue is it's too hard.
Starting point is 00:10:48 It's just too difficult of an event to make that happen, to be really good all the time. So what do you have to do? You have to have lots of reinforcements, correct? I think reinforcements would be extra sets of eyes and extra use of instantly playing all sports. And I know you're worried about timing and game. I know, I know.
Starting point is 00:11:08 That's one of the reasons. That's why the NBA went back. They went backwards. They weren't they auto reviewing everything under two minutes? Yep. And they're like, you know what, this is taking too long. Let's go ahead and dial this back. And, yeah, the NFL, they did the pass interference thing.
Starting point is 00:11:23 And they're like, you know what, these aren't getting overturned and it's slowing the game up. We're going to get rid of these. Calls that should have been overturned, not overturned. It was ridiculous. That was just awful. So, again, my philosophy has put a real live human being as an extra official in the press box to communicate directly with the official. Is that what?
Starting point is 00:11:43 Isn't that what? What is the replay assistant? He's helping, but I think you, that person should have been very helpful. Yeah, but I think that person should say, look, you're on the field, whatever, Mr. Hockley, and I'm seeing something that you're not seeing. Like, buzz in immediately. That was a face mask. Very obvious.
Starting point is 00:11:59 Let's go. Give them more rain, I guess. Yeah. Case, I think the NBA should put an official, a true official, a fourth official, at the scorers table. Instead, I having to go to Sikakis and having these long video conversations, let's call it quick, let's get it going. Maybe a little higher up for down, higher up than you can't really see.
Starting point is 00:12:16 Fowls are so hard to call in the NBA. I don't know. Yeah, maybe the scores table. So, you know, and again, they put real officials in Sakakis when they rotate around. It's like a different stop they go. When you sat there for the PA, what did you feel like when calls were missed that there was a lot of stuff that you had perspective on? I don't remember being there going how they missed that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:39 But I remember this being a long convoluted process that could have been a lot simpler if that first, that fourth, official I'm speaking of was sitting right next to me. Yeah. Because there's a monitor right in front. There's also another set of eyes you can see. Because again, I'm not looking at the game from an officiating standpoint where the official who's a paid official is doing that. So I don't know.
Starting point is 00:12:57 It just felt like to me that we're not getting any further with the ball strikes calls. I mean, Rossi, how many times have we argued over the course of the year with audience, your Twitter account is littered with striking ball calls? Not as much as some. I really try not to do it. I mean, we almost... Sometimes it's too egregious. We're always going to call you Ross Dubos eventually after a while.
Starting point is 00:13:17 See, it's not that bad. That's every game. I really try to rein in how much I complain about the umpiring. So, yeah. To me, I can't do it much as a broadcaster because I don't want it. There are guys in the NBA that call games that just do it so much that it just, it infiltrates their broadcast and it just becomes a wine fest. And I don't want anybody to go, hell, I don't want to listen to this game
Starting point is 00:13:39 because all that broadcaster is going to do is just bitch about officiating. Yeah. and frankly from the viewpoint that I've been a lot of times in the NBA these days I'm not seeing things much better binoculars out yeah exactly this hip uh this what they called hip drop tackle thing finally got called against the Ravens this past week but that it wasn't even called yeah we're seeing a bunch of fine yeah yeah we're seeing that being missed on an word I just think there needs to be an officiating summit don't you think that'd be something
Starting point is 00:14:08 simple and you know part of the problem is is that we're not growing recruiting the very best people to do this. You know why? Because of the youth. Yeah. Because where they start? People want to say this is not worth my time. That's the best solution to me is start your own ref academy and get them working.
Starting point is 00:14:33 I mean, on basketball, it's easy. You could put them in the G League. You could put them in, I mean, wherever college. WNBA, that's a good idea. NFL maybe be a little harder. I don't know about college or UFO, but you need to get some sort of investment. That's the only way it's going to happen.
Starting point is 00:14:51 But as of right now, the leagues don't want to spend that extra money. Because the pay is good. When you're making money as a college or pro official, you're making very good money. So that isn't the issue. It's the issue of... You're in eighth grade getting yelled at by a bunch of parents.
Starting point is 00:15:05 For $40 a game. You don't want to do it. Like when I was... I mean, I will say this, not trying to brag, but I'm going to go ahead and brag. I was a very good softball umpire. Wow. That's one of the worst brags you could have brought to the table. But the reason why I quit was like, I got guys yelling at me.
Starting point is 00:15:20 Yeah, with ankle bracelets. With ankle bracelets. I'm like, I don't need this for $35 a game. Oh, hell no. Right. So. Or how about injecting some money into those as a league? You could be even more hands off. The NFL or Major League Baseball. Partner with those softball leagues. Yeah. And pay the umpires a little bit more. So instead, in the youth leagues, you've got. old people that have got nothing better to do than just doing it because they want to get around a little bit.
Starting point is 00:15:47 But you're not seeing 20, you're not seeing young people at 15, 16, 17 years of age to say, you know what, I want to grow up and be an official. Yeah, or they're just giving up on it. Like, there's viral videos of guys, like, umpires walking out in the middle of games because they're getting yelled at by parents and stuff. Yeah, yeah. 713, 212, 790. 713212-570. Let's go to a Brian in Laredo.
Starting point is 00:16:12 at 1225 on the Matt Thomas show with Ross. Brian, thanks for holding good afternoon. Hey, good afternoon, Matt. I'm in Dallas today, so. Okay. While you're everywhere. Yeah, I'm a truck driver. Always on the road listening to you guys. Thank you. I appreciate you guys being on every day. Thank you. So I've got an idea for MLB, majorly baseball. The big problem for me is strikes and balls, man. It's impossible for that umpire to get those right. Why not put an earpiece in the umpire?
Starting point is 00:16:42 still stays back there and calls strike or calls ball, but he's not actually making the decision. We see on TV which ones are strikes, which ones are ball very clearly. Why not I just relate to him, hey, strike, and he calls a strike. Or hey, ball, he calls a ball. That seems like an easy, simple fix. I don't know why they haven't done that. They've been doing it in the minor league since 2019, and then they've switched to a half-challenge system, half-full automatic balls and strikes.
Starting point is 00:17:07 But then this year, they went to full challenge system, which is probably what they're going to roll out in a couple years. Yeah, there should be no mistake. It should be zero error right there. It should be, okay, that's 100% of strike. Relay to the only part, he calls a strike. I mean, I don't understand what's so hard about that. It seems so simple. You know what?
Starting point is 00:17:28 I don't, I think they're just deathly afraid. And Brian, thank you for the phone call. They just don't, they want the human element as part of it. They just don't want technology to take over the entire game. But meanwhile, technology is, you know what I was thinking about this today? that you watch a college and pro football game, you've got coaches with headsets on, talking to players in their helmet.
Starting point is 00:17:50 Yes. I mean, 30 years ago, you never would have thought that would have possibly happened. No. And now it's like a federal offense if the quarterback has a hard time hearing the play for his coach. Well,
Starting point is 00:18:01 yeah, they used to do hand signals and then people stole the signals and so they went to the headsets and they're going with that. And it's easier and I think, I guess, probably makes the product overall better as well. Or the old and olden days, quarterbacks would call their own place.
Starting point is 00:18:15 But the word human element is just a euphemism for bad calls. You just want bad calls and missed calls. That's what the human element is. The human element is not getting it right. And I just don't... Last night... Last night a buzzer should have gone off.
Starting point is 00:18:29 Yes. And said, hey, whoever the referee was. And I don't need anybody challenging anything. I just saw something that needs to be called immediately. I saw a blatant hold. I saw a chopped block. I saw a face mask. I saw the left tackle leave early of a Laramie Tunsell's case.
Starting point is 00:18:46 I saw the defense nose tackle cross the line of scrimmage on encroachment. We've got to do a better job of taking some things out of the official's hands if they can't handle it. Yeah, the only problem, you'd have to pick and choose which types of calls. I think facemax should be called. The thing is, the old adage you can call a holding on every play is really true. That is true. So maybe you couldn't do that. You know, it's tough.
Starting point is 00:19:15 You don't want a holding on every play. Because if there was a call to holding on every play, then offenses would get backed up, and then every game would end seven to three. And the NFL doesn't want that. Second and 36. Yeah, exactly. So there is a fine line to tow to get the calls right.
Starting point is 00:19:33 But also, I mean, Al Michaels' last night is complaining again. Oh, well, there's a shock. There's another flag. And there's a flag on the field. I know you're surprised. Like he's commenting and we see it and we're talking to calling it the National Flag League, which I'm guilty of. And it's like there's a flag on every play. So if we're getting these calls right, that means that's even more flags and then that waters down the product.
Starting point is 00:19:54 So it's tough. It's not easy. It's not easy. So we have to decide, can we live with flags and get the calls right or do we just let some things go and then be pissed about the Monday after and call your favorite radio show? Ratings and revenue. Keep going up, Matt. You know ratings and revenue are king. That's right.
Starting point is 00:20:10 All right. When we return, we're going to have to open up the Law & Order notebook here for one of our new favorite, well, I was going to say follows. I didn't follow her because I just want to make sure I don't get in trouble. 713-212-5-790. 7-1-3-2-5-790. It's 1229. It's an anything goes Friday on the Matt Thomas show of Ross as you listen to Sports Talk 790. All right, it's 1233 in the Matt Thomas show of Ross. And we've got Kelvin Samson at 1 o'clock. Derek Schultz from Indianapolis at 130 to give us a little Colts preview. Wonderful. Now Florida stories at 230. Hell yeah or not. 250.
Starting point is 00:20:51 So, if you've listened to this show the last few weeks, you know I have. You know I've discussed on occasion the Taylor Mathis Twitter account. And who is she, Matt? She is a busty girl who walks without a bra on. jiggles, laughs, has a bright smile,
Starting point is 00:21:20 and makes bad sports bets. And she tries to help you with sports bets. And she brings no analytics, doesn't talk about coverages or defenses or really much of anything. She's chesty. Because that's the whole point of... Exactly.
Starting point is 00:21:43 Wait, I wanted to hear that whole bite. Go ahead, play it. Go ahead, Connor. Get it out of the way. Because that's the whole point of these videos is to see these racks being bouncy and bouncy everywhere. So Taylor got picked up by a sports betting agency, which we will not discuss the name of it. They spend money on the station, but not with us. Yeah. I never heard of it.
Starting point is 00:22:05 Mandorfleet. Again, I didn't ever heard of it. All right. So Tanner was able to go on some trips to, I believe, Aruba. Yes. She went to some other place. She went, she's gone to it. bunch of casinos where these people are running...
Starting point is 00:22:19 They're not like you don't have a map on your wall with little pins and everywhere she'd been. And she was doing these walking bets, which are becoming quite popular. Which she also got accused of stealing from another woman who was very upset. Yeah, but I would have to say the other woman doesn't have as good... Taylor's were better.
Starting point is 00:22:34 Taylor's what? Walking bets. Hmm. So, come to find out, late last night, I'm getting all of these tweets from me like, what's going on with Taylor? And then I get to text from my buddies today.
Starting point is 00:22:48 What's going on with Taylor? So I walk in the office today and I sit down, get ready for the show. And you walk and I said, hey, do you know what's going on with Taylor? And thankfully, you have done the research on what is going wrong with Taylor Mathis' life here in the last 24 hours. Yes. So apparently Taylor Mathis partnered with some crypto bros and they made a Taylor coin. and this Taylor coin of which she became
Starting point is 00:23:18 associated with and was given 2% ownership of went viral she started to pump it up on her Twitter account and the value of this means nothing at this point right or does it? It reached a no it sounds like a made-up cryptocurrency
Starting point is 00:23:36 but there's a lot of horny virgins on Twitter and some other people who are really into whatever she does, she said to go buy this crypto, and it got up to a $6 million market cap, which, of course, a quick math makes her stake about $120,000. In crypto?
Starting point is 00:23:56 Yes. Okay. Then, apparently, the coin quickly dropped after last Saturday, and the market cap went down to as little as $200,000. So in the middle of it tanking, Taylor sold her stake in the coin. Then she sent messages saying she didn't want to be involved in it. Then it kept on tanking lower and lower. And then she bought some back up and then started talking about the coin again, apparently.
Starting point is 00:24:28 So this is what can be commonly known as a pump and dump scheme. Okay. where a stock or a crypto coin currency in this case gets pumped up, people sell it for profits, and then they move on. And so I don't know if this, I don't know if there's going to be a probe by the Securities and Exchange Commission or what, but she has since deleted a bunch of her tweets and made her account private. Talking about the account, made her account private.
Starting point is 00:24:58 And it was Maffed Mings, which she was partnered with. has been taken off of her profile, so I'm not sure if she lost her sponsorship deal with. My guess is the answer would be yes. Seems like it has. Now, the question I have for you is, did Tom Brady invest in this? I don't think he did. That was crypto.com, was that what he was on? Yeah. Or no, FTX.
Starting point is 00:25:22 Yeah, because that was the big running joke at the Tom Brady Rose was that he invested all this in the crypto and it turned him to be zero. Zilich. So in three days, it ran up to $6 million. went all the way down to like I guess $100,000 after the market dipped. Yeah. Hmm.
Starting point is 00:25:41 So the crux the story is is lesson learned. Just bounce and talk about bets and don't get involved in crypto. Don't get involved with crypto bros. And it's funny because didn't she bring this up a few weeks ago talking about she's taking a crypto course?
Starting point is 00:26:00 And I was like, oh, this doesn't seem like Yeah, she's getting some terrible advice. So I think she lives in the Midwest somewhere. I hope that she had a great time in Aruba. You know how she was in Aruba. You watched all the videos. I mean, I was looking for her bets and her selections. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:26:19 You can't bet legally in Texas, Matt. I know, but I was passing the information along to my friends. Locks of the week. So there you go. There's the Taylor Mathis update for those of you that want to know that she's no longer nearly as best. bouncy today as she was yesterday. So just to recap, it seems like she may be a crypto scammer.
Starting point is 00:26:40 Yeah. And it's probably costing her her last remaining minutes of fame. Although if she goes to OnlyFans, she'll do just quite well for herself. You know what's funny. I was literally thinking my head, I was like, I'm not going to make an only fans joke as it came out of your mouth. Mm-hmm. That seems... Tell me how she was... Does she, yeah,
Starting point is 00:27:06 clip that. That's how she makes her money back. If she's in, if she's in economic distress right now, only fans immediately. Have you a five ski a month? Should she be just fine. I think she would do quite well.
Starting point is 00:27:18 Yeah. She had to do more than walk. Why did you have to make it worse and worse? I just said she got to do more than walk. What is that? I mean, I don't have an only fan description to anybody,
Starting point is 00:27:32 but I'm going to presume that you have to do more than just walk on an OnlyFans account to make money? Just your friend, the prepaid visa card has a script description. It's not you. That's not an eligible, but I don't think. Not that I would know. And that's your Taylor Maddys update for the day. We will keep track on her.
Starting point is 00:27:49 We'll keep constant updates, make sure she's back on her feet and back walking. Seriously, how do you come back from this if you're her? Only fans. People forget. No, in six weeks, nobody's going to remember any of this. As long as she'll delete all her cryptos, tweets. She'll unlock, she'll start
Starting point is 00:28:06 bouncing around again and everybody will forget. Yeah. Have you seen 2024? So, the issue is, if we're looking for bets, who do we go to next? The other walking girl. What's her name? I don't know. I don't remember.
Starting point is 00:28:23 Okay, well. But she's apparently dancing, doing some grave dancing after all this. Oh yeah, she's like, yeah, scoreboard, biotch. All right, there is your Taylor Mathis update on the radio program today. We've got Kelvin Sampson coming up at 1 o'clock this afternoon. We've got 1.30, Derek Schultz.
Starting point is 00:28:40 And we have an update on what's going on in Texanville with who's practicing. Somebody came back today for the first time in a couple days. And that Friday injury report could mean everything. By way, have you noticed stand to this all during a show? I mean, just endless segments about the offensive line. Endless Rossi. How about just do your job and protect the quarterback? If athletically you can't do it, then the Texans are going to be screwed.
Starting point is 00:29:08 But if it's timing and it's road crowd noise, then you've got to practice that. But this team has got too much money and too much experience at this point to have the issues they're having in their, on their offensive line, seven games in the season. 713-5-790. 7-1-3-212-5-790. A huge shout-out to Big City Wings Kingwood location yesterday for host. singing a little volleyball team party for my daughter and her buddies. It was great. We had tenders. We had wings. We had fries. We had salad. And we had fried Oreos and funnel cake fries for dessert. I mean, the dinner champions.
Starting point is 00:29:48 And tonight, if you don't feel like cooking and you want to watch the World Series and you want to watch the Rockets game and you want to watch some college football tonight, it can all be done at any of the 13 big city wing locations. Big on wings, big on sports, big on big screen TVs. And tomorrow, all their locations, will open up at 10.30 so you can get there in plenty of time for those 11 o'clock kickoffs. Whether it's wings, sandwiches, salads, fries, desserts, appetizers, they've got it all. Great prices. Reasonable prices. In fact, for all the delicious food, we had again had a great time on our party yesterday and you should have a party there as well. At Big City Wings, 13 Houston locations, big citywings.com.
Starting point is 00:30:26 Let's go Rockets! The Rockets have Red Nation. Matt has Maddie Nation. Things are going to start happening to me now. You made it. I'm somebody now. More Matt Thomas. Now. It is 1248.
Starting point is 00:30:45 It is the Matt Thomas show with Ross. Sports Talk 790. We take this program today until 3 o'clock. We mentioned what's going on in Texanville. We got some good news. Henry Toa Toa did partake in practice today. I know that a lot of people driving around the street to Houston concerned about that situation.
Starting point is 00:31:02 Oh, thank God. That's actually pretty good. Yeah, I mean, death is where it's at. I mean, was not considered much of a player last year, came in and did a nice job, and now is considered one of the veteran leaders. He's one of their good run stoppers. It's not like, you know, it's not going to be all pro or anything like that,
Starting point is 00:31:21 but it's good downhill, diagnosing running lanes, finding the right spots, aggressive. I like Henry Toot. Yeah, Camari Lasseter, practicing for the third day in a row, so that's good on that. So that's helping out a little bit defensively, and we'll get another injury report from the Texans a little bit later on. 713-212-5-7-9 if you want to jump in.
Starting point is 00:31:39 It's anything goes Friday, meaning literally anything you want to talk about. Anything. Could be sports. Yes. Could be A&MLSU tomorrow. Could be bouncy cryptogrifters. Could be. It could be, um, hmm.
Starting point is 00:31:56 Oh, I got one for you. Okay. Here's a baseball note. This Jim Bowden guy. Yes. rights for the athletic, I think. Does some TV and radio. He's a former general manager of the Reds,
Starting point is 00:32:08 I want to say, of yesterday year. Okay. This was taken off of a sports illustrated story that I think they were basically aggregating from the athletic. Mm-hmm. He has a prediction on Alex Breggman's next contract.
Starting point is 00:32:24 Okay. You're going to be happy about this because we have a small bet on this. I think I'm going to win the bet. He has it at seven years. Okay. Which would be one more than I, then we have set the average at six. The line is 6.0.
Starting point is 00:32:41 Right. The dollar amount he has at 185 million. 7. 185? That's not $30 million a year. No, it's not. That's not even, that's not even close to $30 million a year. 26.42.
Starting point is 00:32:59 So he's going to take a longer term deal at less money. the first time he's really been able to test the free agent waters. Now the seven, I was thinking about this. I'm sorry, I think I asked this, but I have a short attention span. This is going to be the Astro signing this or somebody else? Somebody. He says the market's going to set it at 7 and 185. Okay.
Starting point is 00:33:22 I think it's going to be less than 7 just for the sake of our bet, but 185 to me was the, was a surprising number. Not that people are running around. Are you saying this? Are this a prediction? This is his prediction. Okay. You know, and again, former general managers have a pretty good feel of this. This is what they do for a living.
Starting point is 00:33:39 They kind of guesstimate with the markets out there and who's available. And maybe there's because there's quite a few third basement available out there. I don't know what the reason would be, but that feels kind of low, honestly. 7 and 185. So if that is the case, if it's really 7.185, wouldn't you, if you're the Astros, do that deal? I don't. Well, in theory, yes. Yes. But you also have an owner who has taken a hardline stance. I don't do over five.
Starting point is 00:34:16 So that's be two years more than what he normally would like to have or has set as a precedent as a limit. But if you were budgeting him being a $30 million year player, if $7.185 would be in that same range for six years, six 180, whatever the case would be. Paul DeJong is available. Oh. Not great. Kevin Newman is available from Arizona. Who? Plays a little bit of everything.
Starting point is 00:34:41 Second, short, and third. Abraham Torrell, former Astrograd is available. Okay. Yeah. Maybe you pay up for Bregman. Maybe you do pay up. O whit Merrifield's available? Whitmerfield.
Starting point is 00:34:56 You know, Kevin Bissio's played some third base before. Okay, come on. He got released by two teams last year. I'm just throwing these names out. Oh, what's going on? I thought you'll have. Any of Swadeth. Could be.
Starting point is 00:35:09 For sure. Or Yohan Moncada. I think those are the two that you would like to, if you can guarantee one of those two, you'd feel better about losing Breggman. Other than that, it's going to be tough. I just saw that number and I was kind of surprised because that is for a seven-year contract, that feels significantly lower than I thought I would agree. I would agree.
Starting point is 00:35:29 So we'll see what Jim Baden is on about. Let's see how close of you. 713-212-5-7-90. Jeff in downtown is with us on the Matt Thomas show with Ross. Thank you for holding good afternoon. Afternoon, happy Friday. My time flies, I wanted to get your review of Cougar football this year. I mean, you play Utah tomorrow for homecoming and try to get a win up in Kansas City.
Starting point is 00:35:52 It fell a little short. I just wanted to see what you thought. Fum to show, though. We need significant talent. That's my thought. We need a quarterback. All areas. I thought the defense was supposed to be doing.
Starting point is 00:36:06 Did okay. It gave up a bunch of points last week. And a lot of that was because the Cougars turned the ball over four times. That's no way to go through life. Yeah. The run-pass option really burned them last week against the Jayhawks. They just were just a step late on that kind of stuff. Shortfields didn't help the cause.
Starting point is 00:36:24 They've got some athletes, Rossi, but they need a serious infusion at running back. A legitimate one of them have gone through four or five different guys this year. None of them been able to stand out. The quarterback spot's not been good. need wide receiver depth. They need serious offense. I mean, they need everything. I mean, I don't mean to be rude, but the question was asked and it's now going to be answered. They need significant talent to challenge in this division in this conference.
Starting point is 00:36:48 I thought they brought in 63 new players or whatever it was. Well, that's setting records. That's not a record you're bragging about. 63 bright young faces ready to play. Well, they're 5. 63 more next year? They might be ready to play. Just aren't they any good. I think that's a that's a Nick Sabin, isn't that a Nick Sabian saying? There's a reason they're in the portal.
Starting point is 00:37:11 Yeah. For the most part. Right. Why do guys transfer? Well, because they're unhappy. You're not getting playing time. If they're not getting play on time, that means maybe they're not that good. Unless it's somebody who's trying to upgrade, like, I don't know, Jordan Addison who went from Pitt to USC or Longhorns picked up. He was, I think, UTSA or U.T. El Pas. Or that jerk Matthew Golden, one of those guys. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Sometimes you get called up to the big leagues, you know. No, Matthew Golden doesn't want to toil in front of 19,000 people.
Starting point is 00:37:39 He just get cash whipped. He wants to be chucking his horns up in front of 100,000 in Austin, Texas with a top 10 team. Who got their ass beat by Georgia last week. Yes, they did. He was there for that. He was on the field.
Starting point is 00:37:52 He was. They just need town. And they need cash. So if anybody would like to donate some money to the NIL to being paid players. How about somebody who has a large platform and always speaks about how the school is, the Harvard of the Southeast.
Starting point is 00:38:07 I'm talking about Jim Nance? They're the great pro, this great program. I'll call Jim Nass as soon as I can. Always calls them a Tier 1 institution. They are a tier one. And the greatest athletic department in the land, maybe that guy could cut some checks. Okay, well, as soon as you get a hold of him,
Starting point is 00:38:21 I'll be happy to call Mr. Nance and see if you can do that. 713-212-5-790. 7-1-3-212-5-79. The Cougar football program is, Willie's trying hard. He just doesn't enough players. And I think anybody that's watched a team this year would back that up. And the thing we have going for us is that Willie, everywhere he's gone,
Starting point is 00:38:45 has taken a team in some more situations. It made them significantly better. I mean, hell, he made Tulane relevant. Yeah, nothing else you can. I mean, Georgia Southern relevant. How do you do that? Because you're a good coach. Not a recruit.
Starting point is 00:38:59 Now, it's a little bit different now. Times they are a change. Got to have that check ready. Yeah, Gies Keith, at 1256 on 70, before we talk to Calvin Sampson. Go ahead, Keith. Okay, it's Yankees in six, and again, I'm going to repeat that Aaron Judge is the MVP of the World Series. I also have a Rockets question. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:21 Oh, Jabari Smith, is this his third or it's fourth year? It's his third season. Okay. If he doesn't average, he was like our top draft pick a few years ago. if he don't average like 17 and 8 by the trade deadline, don't you think he should go? Oh, we mean just to trade him, just to trade him? Or are you trying to trade him to get a superstar here?
Starting point is 00:39:47 I mean, what do you? Trade him for what? Yeah, what are you looking to trade him for? Trading for him and somebody else for a package by the trade deadline. Okay, so if he's underperforming, what are you going to get in return? If he's overperforming, then why would you trade him? Well, first of all, he's never going to be overperforming. He's pretty soft.
Starting point is 00:40:08 You clearly, and I'm not a member of his family, it sounds like to me. No, he's pretty soft, man. Well, you know what? You know what, Keith? I've got Jabbar in the phone line right now. Why don't you tell him to his face how soft he is? You're going to do that? I'll tell him.
Starting point is 00:40:21 I'll tell him, I'm 510, 135 miles. He's 6.11, about 250. I'll talk him to his face. You're soft. All right, thank you, Keith. You're a prince, Keith. You really are. Thank you for the phone call.
Starting point is 00:40:35 Last year, he averaged about 14 and 8, and shot 13. 36% from 3. It's good. Yeah, I don't know if he's much more than 16 and 7. I don't know. I mean, if Schengun's going to, you can't have Schengun and Green and Jabari scoring 24 points every night. It just doesn't work out that way. He hasn't shown himself to be good enough to earn you running some of the offense through him anyways. Yeah, I think he is a open spot guy. Let's shoot and make some threes, and he's got to do that tonight. We talk to Kelvin Samson next here on Sports Talk 790 after I tell you to give him.

This is the Matt Thomas show. 102 on Sports Talk 790 hour number two of three on a very busy weekend. We've got college football. We've got the NFL. We've got the rockets tonight here in town tomorrow night in San Antonio. And then Sunday, I'm very happy to be calling the game on television. It's a special exhibition game featuring the Houston. Cougars and the Texas A&M Aggies.
Starting point is 00:43:12 And to talk about that game in all things college basketball is my good friend, Kelvin Sampson, here on the Matt Thomas show with Ross. Coach, I love that the NCAA allows you guys to play some heavy hitters. I know it's not going to mean anything on the scorecard, but having this kind of early season test has got to be good for your guys, right? It is. We're coming off a secret, I guess in parentheses, secret scrimmage last Saturday. So now when you go back to practice, there's some things that you know you need to clean up.
Starting point is 00:43:44 You're still trying to get the new guys in, and so you can evaluate them so they can get comfortable. You know, we have a new point guard getting him where he can figure out who's where and who does what best wear. And so he can get to know his teammates better. And your practice is practice. We know the moves. We know who the shooters are, who the shooters aren't. We work on this, we work on that. But, you know, to be able to take our system, if you will,
Starting point is 00:44:19 and go play somebody else in the month of October, even though in the big picture, you know, a month from now, nobody's going to remember this game, but it's part of the process for us. It is crazy, though, coach, that Anderson Garcia and the rest of the Aggies are coming to town. He's the guy to hit that three-pointer. That gave me a heart attack when you guys were playing on the NCAA turn.
Starting point is 00:44:37 The only thing I remember about that game, Matt, is we won. There you go. I like that much better. Much better. That's cool. So tell me about your off-season. I know you've, the recruiting folks love it. I know you're trying to get some replacing Jamal, who's had a nice start to his young NBA career.
Starting point is 00:44:56 Got a lot of returning guys coming back. You've got a couple of guys changing uniform numbers and whatnot. Was this off-season any different than previous years? I mean, obviously the folks at the Associated Press level were going to be, being number four in the country, starting the season? No, not really. You know, our season ends, you know, because we've been
Starting point is 00:45:17 going to the Sweet 16 or Final 40, lead 8, whatever, our season is ending later. So by the time you get back, you're almost into April. And there's an NCAA rule that when the season ends, the players have to have a two-week break. And we do
Starting point is 00:45:33 that regardless. I mean, it's not like we're going to start practicing right away, but by the time the two-week break comes, now you're backing up into final exams at the end of April, schools out early May. And so we don't really work with our guys individually, position-wise, team-wise, to June. And by that time, you know, all the new guys are there. Mylos Uzan, Mercy Miller, Chase McCarty are the three new guys. And then we had Jack and McFarland red shirt last year.
Starting point is 00:46:06 So he's back in the swing of things in Cordell Jefferson. So we've got five new faces. We've got eight of our top ten back. So, you know, just trying to mix them all together and see who fits where and who can do this, who can do that, and pick up our system and go play. You know, it's so early in the season to be making any decision. So we're just going to let a lot of guys play. You know, the winning and losing this game, we'll see how that goes.
Starting point is 00:46:36 but I think it's more important just to get a look at your team so you can evaluate your new guys. Well, I love your non-conference schedule. You have that big event going out in Vegas, I guess Thanksgiving week. But in a couple of weeks at the TOTUS, and you guys are going to play Auburn. So you're not messing around with some top-flight competition. Was that one of the things? And again, everybody's going to say we try to balance best we can. But I like what you guys have done, at least from the non-conference schedule-wise.
Starting point is 00:47:00 Well, the games in Vegas is strictly for all the teams there, there's 18. teams there. On our side of the bracket is Alabama, Notre Dame, Rutgers, Houston. The other side is Oregon, Creighton, San Diego State, and Texas A&M. So we'll play two teams on our side and one team from the other side probably. And then we have Auburn on November, I'm sorry, yeah, November 9th is so worried. I couldn't believe I was saying that, but November 9th, like last year in the same game at the Toyota Center, we played Texas A&M. You know, I think our schedule, non-conference schedule is fine. I doubt I would be doing the tournament in Vegas,
Starting point is 00:47:43 unless it was a huge NIL payday for us. But, you know, we have 20 conference games. That's a change. Last year we had 18. This year we have 20. So you've got 20 big 12 games. So any coach that's got common sense that's not going to load up on a non-conference schedule
Starting point is 00:48:01 when you don't really need to. Well, it's still a very fierce get-together before you guys. get going to league play. L.J. Carr, you mentioned on your conference call a few minutes ago with the meeting. You wanted to be even more aggressive than he was a year ago. Would you further explain that for us? Yeah, LJ is one of those
Starting point is 00:48:18 kids, Matt, that makes the right play. And I'm never ever going to change that mentality with him because that's what makes him special. But sometimes when he can create a window for himself, either on a slide step or a step back where he can
Starting point is 00:48:34 get a window for himself, I want him to shoot that ball. He's an outstanding shooter, and he's a senior, and this is it for him. You know, he's going to be our leading scorer again. I'd just like to see him a little bit more aggressive. You know, we've got to see how we're going to play with Milos. That's a big question mark for us. It's going to get answered.
Starting point is 00:48:55 It's just going to take time. He needs to play in games, and that's why his early season schedule will be a challenge for us. But, no, the great thing is, is that every game we play, I think you'll see, especially Milos, get more comfortable with the returners. You know, he played two years in the Big 12. So that's not going to be a change for him. The biggest change is he's got new teammates. And that always, that's always a little bit of a process. You didn't hit somebody, did you?
Starting point is 00:49:26 We're hearing a bunch of beeps in the background. Everything okay with you? No, I'm good. I'm good. That's not me. I want to make sure he didn't hit somebody because I don't need you. Filing an insurance claim on my behalf. That's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:49:41 One kid I loved watching Develop last year was Jojo Tuggler. And just all-freshman Big 12, obviously the foot injury late near ended his season. I'm going to assume, first and foremost, he's close to being, if not 100% right now. And what do you expect him to make the next leap going from a freshman year to a sophomore year? Because as you'd also mentioned in the media earlier today, freshmen got to do a lot of observations. and a lot of freshmen don't get to play. He was able to give you some valuable minutes for you last year. Yeah, I think Jojo, Jojo's different.
Starting point is 00:50:12 You know, when he goes in there, he just creates havoc. When we lost him, when we played at Baylor last year, that was his last game. So I think we played six or seven games after that. And I thought that's when our season went a little bit sideways, because we didn't have, you don't just go get another Jojo. Jojo probably was as good as any of our post guys. Now, J-1 Robert's role and his skill set's different. Javier was a veteran.
Starting point is 00:50:42 He really improved as the season went on. But, you know, we feel like we have three starters up front with Jojo, Javier and Jojo. I'm sorry, J-1, J-Bier and Jojo, the three Js. Those three guys all can start. And it really doesn't matter, you know. J-Vier and J-1 will start. Javier has been banged up with a little bit of an injury. He did not play last Saturday.
Starting point is 00:51:10 If he plays Sunday, he plays. If he doesn't, he doesn't. That game's not nearly as important as the game on November 4th. I think going forward, he'll for sure play on November 4th, but I'm not sure if that thing's bothering him at all today or tomorrow, we'll just hold him out because, you know, most important thing is not the game Sunday. It's the game November 4th.
Starting point is 00:51:32 That's when our season starts. Last thing for you, this is big picture stuff, because I always value your opinion on so many things. I don't know how well you know Tony Bennett, but universally his resignation from Virginia, I sent a lot of shockwaves throughout the sport, and some of it, I think it was because of the transfer portal and the NIL. And I was telling my partner,
Starting point is 00:51:52 I said, you know, I don't want to see great coaches leave the game for things that they can't control on the court. So as you get into another part of your career, because you didn't deal with this 15 or 20 years ago, you dealt about recruiting kids and winning basketball games and filling up buildings. You didn't have to worry about portals and NILs and whatnot. How do you now navigate these waters? We're seeing some really good people lead the industry because of the fact that so much of this is done off the court and frankly with the dollar bill.
Starting point is 00:52:25 No, you're right. And it's an individual thing. Tony was a good friend of mine. I think three or four years ago, he called me in the spring and said, you know, he'd like to bring, you know, Duke came to Fertita Center and we had a closed-door scrimmage with them. I think Tony found out about that and said, well, he'd like to do the same thing. He'd like to bring Virginia. I said, I don't want to scrimmage you, Tony. Let's play.
Starting point is 00:52:53 So that's how the home and home of Virginia was set up. Yeah, the NIDL thing, the portal thing, that was, it just happened. I don't know any of us had a handle on it. And now of a sudden it went full board with no guardrails. It's like a roller coaster without brakes. You know, we're just up and down, flying and trying to figure things out as we go. But, you know, the things that I enjoy most about my job, Matt, is working with these young guys. and helping them reach their dreams and goals
Starting point is 00:53:29 and teach them about the competitive side of life and how basketball can help that and helping them grow and reach their dreams and chase their goals. That hasn't changed for me. And I told someone at Media Day the other day, I refused to let Transfer Portal or the NIL change who I am. I still love what I do, and that's not going to change.
Starting point is 00:53:54 I will evolve and change because you have to. I still remember coaching before the shot clock, before the three-point line. When those things came in, it was like, oh, wow, that's messing up our game. Nobody remembers when there wasn't a shot clock. Nobody remembers when there wasn't a three-point line. So now we have NIL. It is what it is. Figure it out, do the best you can with it and go forward.
Starting point is 00:54:17 But the reasons I got into this profession to begin with, I still love. Outstanding message there. Coach, thanks for the time. As always. Best of luck not only getting the guys out there for a warm-up on Sunday, but the entire course of the season, and we'll see you in the Furtinole Center on Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Look forward to seeing you, Matt.

Starting point is 00:56:15 Time is 120. It is the Matt Thomas show with Ross. Sports Talk 790. Great to have you with us on this. It was going to be a very busy weekend. We've got the Vanderbilt goalpost Maybe going down again for a second consecutive home game Why would you say that? I don't know because it's not true. Come on, man.
Starting point is 00:56:32 You're not letting that short little quarterback beat you. He's been really good. He's fine. What's his name, Diego Pavia? Well, he's, he is a, after he beat Alabama, he goes right on TV and he starts swearing up and cussing up a storm. What's wrong with that? Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:56:48 College kid cusses. Can't do it on ESPN. Big money. Okay. Can't face those fines. you have A&M versus LSU tomorrow Yeah Okay, what time's that game?
Starting point is 00:56:59 6.30 is the national game. Oh, okay. I mean, not all national, but that's the big game of the week. The big game of the week. The second big game of the week is Utah, Houston at 6 o'clock. Do I want Aggies fans to be happy or do I want Gordia to be happy? Ugh. And Dan Matthews.
Starting point is 00:57:16 Oh. Yeah, but I'm really bothered by Dan for a variety of things. What do you mean? Trying to go up to Austin for the Georgia. game and now going to college station for LSU? He went on his Instagram account and started dancing with Georgia gear on. And now he's going to be doing that with LSU.
Starting point is 00:57:31 He did? Yes. I must have missed that one. And now if LSU wins, he's going to be doing the same thing with LSU gear. That's like being a fan of Texas and A&M. I'm sorry. I just can't get past this. But Dan's a swell fellow, so we will let him be.
Starting point is 00:57:47 Yes. Ooh, that lines down to A&M minus one. Wasn't it more before? Yeah, I didn't it. down to one. Yeah. So we got that. We got the Texans and Colts on Sunday.
Starting point is 00:57:57 We have, what do we go? Oh, we got Dallas, San Francisco on Sunday night football, which I think is going to be very, very good. Yes. Texans versus Colts. Who's on the call on that one? I'm scared to ask. I'll let you take a guess. It's CBS.
Starting point is 00:58:13 Okay. Do you think it's Jim Nance? No. Do you think it's Ian Eagle? No. You think it's Kevin Harlan? No. It's Andrew Catalan.
Starting point is 00:58:20 Yes. Yes. It's Andrew Catalan. Okay. They're the number four game this week. Among all of them. There's seven on CBS, so they're right in the middle. Like most things, Texans.
Starting point is 00:58:28 Texans cult at noon, sounds about right with Andrew Catalan. Yeah. I think the big early game on CBS would have to be... I mean, I can tell you right now. What is the big CBS game? I don't know. Keep stalling. I'm stalling. Follow sports.
Starting point is 00:58:45 Oh, it's Philly Cincinnati. Oh, that's good. Yeah. It's decent. I mean, Cincinnati wins that game. they're right back in the thick and things in the AFC North. What's the game of the week?
Starting point is 00:59:01 The ultimate commanders? The number one game of the week probably is Bears commanders. Yeah, but Jaden Reed's not supposed to. I mean, I'm sorry, Jaden Daniels is not supposed to play. Well, it could be a lower scoring game. Kansas City tries to go to 7 and 0 this week. Or, excuse me, they'd be trying to go to 8-0.
Starting point is 00:59:16 Well, actually, Jaden Daniels was limited today, but was D&P for previous two days? Usually two D&Ps and unlimited is a no-go. Usually. That usually means one. hint and he's probably going to be done for the game. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:59:27 So why would you put him out? Yeah, put him out there for that. He's been tenderized. Uh-oh. What's the matter? Uh-oh. Dan is weighing in. Uh-oh.
Starting point is 00:59:34 Here we go. Let's see what Dan had to say. Okay. Georgia football rejuvenated my career after leaving us radio station. If it's them against LSU, I'm all tigers.
Starting point is 00:59:50 But see, I wouldn't boast about being all tigers. Why don't you just wear a split jersey and sit at the 50? That sounds very OU Texas of him. No, I'm just kidding. They wouldn't do that. Could you imagine,
Starting point is 01:00:01 do you think there's anybody that has an A&M and a Texas jersey split? Maybe because of kids that went there or something like that. Like I have one son at A&M or did, or do, and then I have a Texas Tech graduate. And then if Carly got a scholarship offer from the Longhorns, she would say yes. I'd say hook him, let's go. Exactly.
Starting point is 01:00:20 I would be the biggest Texas honk. You'd have me wearing Texas gear every year. Just for volleyball. That's right. I would say Texas volleyball. By the way, A&M volleyball, beat Texas volleyball. They did?
Starting point is 01:00:28 In Austin. Back-to-back reigning national champs? Isn't that crazy? I guess A&M volleyball is very good. They're good, yeah. Okay. They're really good. All right.
Starting point is 01:00:38 We've had anything goes Friday, and we've only had one call today so far, and it was off of... It was Yankees. No, we had two. No, it's Keith. Oh, we had Jeff in downtown asking for a U. U.S. Cougar breakdown, which...
Starting point is 01:00:49 I think he was just trying to depress you going into the weekend, which is not fair. Jeff makes me depressed frequently with his phone. phone calls. And then we had the call about the MLB strike zone. So it's kind of with the essence of anything goes Friday is right there for you. You already to make a prediction on the Texans game? I can do it right now.
Starting point is 01:01:07 Yes. I'm going to steal your score. What? I'll let you say it first. 28 to 20. I got the same thing. Okay. Six. No, I actually moved. It was six and a half down to five. A lot of confidence in Vegas over there. But I'm saying
Starting point is 01:01:25 they cover that line. They cover the original line. Lock at a week, even though the Texans money line was my lock at a week last week. It was a money line pick of the week, yeah. Well, I'll say this. Do you think we're going to get confidence back in this team? Or are you going to say, well, you kind of beat the second tier team in the division. They're going to be at home.
Starting point is 01:01:41 The protection issues aren't going to be as prominent. They are playing an inferior team. They're going to win. I like how you think. Quick question. What does this say? NBA question for Peach Basket. Yes.
Starting point is 01:01:55 Did you put that? As you know, I didn't. No, I didn't touch it. No, I'm asking Connor. Was that Connor being editorial there on that? That is what Vince told me to say. This ought to be quick. Vince, what do you need?
Starting point is 01:02:06 Yes, sir. Listen, I was watching the game the other night, the Rockets game. And LaMelle ball, he palms the ball all the time. Okay. And you got John Morant coming in today. He's probably one of the worst of doing it as well. So I went to the NBA rules book to see what is the actual rule. about dribbling.
Starting point is 01:02:27 And they don't mention anything about that. So is it like, wasn't that a rule where you couldn't put your hand under the ball and hold it and take two or three steps and keep dribbling? Or did they just delete that rule from the book? I don't know. So I was hoping you can touch on that. Vince, I will be honest with you. I've not checked on the NFL and the NBA rulebook in quite some time.
Starting point is 01:02:51 You don't have it printed out and keep it with you in your bag? I don't, but maybe I should for calls like that. No, I would assume that there's going to be a very simple explanation for what you can do what constitutes a legal dribble. Now, I'm trying to find the actual rule book. Is there even such a thing? A player can't put his palm under the ball and turn the dribble over. Well, there you go.
Starting point is 01:03:11 That's on a website. Yeah, we'll take that. Where's NBA rulebook? While you do that, we'll try to wait the audience up here a little bit. We're going to talk to our buddy Derek Schultz in Indianapolis. coming up in a minute. 713. 212.790.
Starting point is 01:03:27 713212.5.790. I have been telling you for weeks now that Martin's spoonmower at affordable tree service needs to hear from you, especially if you've got trees that you're not, you're concerned, frankly, about their health and well-being. 713-699-2663. This is the, I wouldn't say super busy season for Martin, which means you need to get in there right now to get your trees prune to get them deep root fed so they can, withstand any issues with the winter coming up and then make sure they're going to be the very
Starting point is 01:03:57 best come springtime. That's why you call Martin. You know nothing about your trees. Martin will come to your house, give you an assessment, and treat them like they so richly deserve to be treated. That's because they're a big part of your neighborhood and they're a big part of your house and your big part of your property. 713-699-2663. The number once again is 713-699-2663. If you're nervous about anything about your trees at all, let Mark. and take a look at him. 713 699-2-663, affordable tree service. Texans on three, one, two, three.
Starting point is 01:04:31 Back to Battle Red Ross and Liberty white-ass Matt Thomas. What up, what up? That is what I am. Real pale Texans talk continues on the Matt Thomas show. What up, what up? Yeah, yeah, this is just the root as line we have, and it just never stops. It's one of my favorites. I know it is.
Starting point is 01:04:55 You probably helped write it. I didn't write that one. Liberty, white-ass Thomas. I didn't say that. That's see. This is very rude. All right. It is.
Starting point is 01:05:05 Talk to turf. You're getting broken up about it. You all right? No, not happy. All right. Let's talk to a man. I'm going to talk to my friend because you're not my friend. A man who's got more jobs in Indianapolis than I have in Houston.
Starting point is 01:05:19 Derek Schultz. He is with Purdue University. ISPERS SportsNet. IBJ News, Indy Monthly, Goldenblack.com. And you're also a Uber driver, correct? That's the only thing I'm not doing. Yeah, I don't know why I list all those things in there. You know, Twitter's not LinkedIn, so I should probably just lead that to my LinkedIn,
Starting point is 01:05:39 but I want to sound like relevant and important, Matt. I don't have the radio show like you do anymore. You know what? You're just a braggers of what you are. That's all I'm going to tell you. But we always appreciate you. You've been coming on for a long time. We certainly appreciate your visit with us.
Starting point is 01:05:50 I'm going to give you a blanket statement. without watching every game involving Mr. Richardson. He sucks, right? Look, there are, how do I handle this diplomatically? There are serious and legitimate reasons for concern. That said, I do think that some of his struggles so far can be explained away because we're still talking about a guy who has made at last count, I think nine NFL starts.
Starting point is 01:06:23 Nine starts is not a lot. Nine starts certainly isn't a sample size that you can go on, but are there red flags for Richardson and the completion percentage and the things that we talked about being red flags as a prospect and those red flags not being unraised? Yeah, absolutely. There are real legitimate concerns about Anthony Richardson with where he is about halfway through year number two now.
Starting point is 01:06:43 Because we saw him obviously in week one throw the deep ball beautifully. But the intermediate routes are a disaster right now. Why do you think that is? it's just something that he hasn't gotten to hold of it you know matt it's not a processing problem he seems to be making the right reads and he's throwing to the appropriate parties the problem for him is that he can't put the ball where it needs to be and it's not like the colts you know you've been covering these texans colts games for a long time i mean the colts had a couple of years there was like ty y hilton y and ross out there that was their receiving
Starting point is 01:07:16 court you know what i mean and now they do have some legitimate players and some legitimate talent and Josh Downs, what a great rookie year. And Michael Pittman Jr., who's a very good, like a high WR2, low WR1 type. Alec Pierce has had a little bit of a coming out party here. So they have talent and weapons as far as past catchers, but he just can't put the ball where it needs to be.
Starting point is 01:07:36 Now, he still has the legs. Now that gives everybody here severe anxiety because he's injury prone, so they don't like when he gets hit, but that's still an elite trait that he has. And it looks like he's going to get Jonathan Taylor back this week. That's another thing about Richardson guys that I think, at least needs to be talked about. This is me being a Richardson apologist, a defender,
Starting point is 01:07:54 okay, full disclosure. He's only had four games with Jonathan Taylor in the backfield at the same time. And I think that's something that he can really lean into and they can lean into each other and make this a more effective offense and obviously make Richardson a more effective signal caller. Yeah, Ross, with you here too, Derek.
Starting point is 01:08:11 And what is the pulse of the fan base? What are they feeling like? Is there like a Joe Flacco faction, a Richardson faction? How are things handled there with the Colts fans about this quarterback situation? There's definitely the Flacco faction because I think that's what Colts fans are used to. They really like crappy old veterans. They liked Gardner Minshu.
Starting point is 01:08:31 You know what I mean? They liked Phillip Rivers, even though Rivers was obviously a good player. Matt Ryan? Yeah, Matt Ryan didn't go so well. You guys saw what happened with Carson once as well. This has been just kind of a long line of that. And then there are some fans that are like, look, who cares about this year? The number one thing about this year is finding out if Richardson's the guy.
Starting point is 01:08:48 If he's not the guy, then you go ahead and move on. So it's been a little bit split. But there's just a lot of frustration here because this is now the 10th season since they've won the division. They've won one playoff game in that span. And a lot of this fan base was used to the heyday of the Peyton Manning and the early Andrew Luckiers, where you roll out of bed, you win 10, 11, 12 games, you win this division. And, you know, call me in January. And for a long time now, for almost a decade, that,
Starting point is 01:09:16 that hasn't been the case. So I think that frustration is really what's wearing thin and is making people less patient with Richardson and this current team. You mentioned Jonathan Taylor coming back should be big. Also, DeForest Buckner, what does he mean to this Colts defense? I mean, he's the whole, he's the foundation that the house is built upon. He's not only is he the best player on their defense and arguably the best player on the entire team, but he sets the whole tone for everything that they want to do, which is start with stopping the run and allowing the pass rushers to do what they do best, which is to rush the passer and
Starting point is 01:09:48 not have to worry about the opposing teams running back. So I don't think you can understate what Buckner's value is. And that's one thing the Colts have going for them. I mean, this is a really critical game. Surprisingly, it's for first place because the Colts stylistically, and style points wise have not looked like of anything close to a first place team, but they get their two most important players back likely, both of those guys, quote unquote, tracking very well, according to Shane Stike and earlier today to play on Sunday. The big, issue here in Houston has been the fact the offensive line is just not protected
Starting point is 01:10:17 C.J. Stroud, anything close to what it was a year ago. You're adding Buckner to the mix. Overall, though, what has the defensive pass rush been like for the Colts this year? Just kind of okay. It's been about what it's been the last couple of years. Leotu Latu, who was their first round pick,
Starting point is 01:10:33 who was actually the first defensive player drafted in the 2024 class has really flashed. He got another sack last week. They still really like Dio O'Dangbo. who was a draft second round pick a couple of years ago. But it's been a little bit pass rush by committee where they've got a bunch of guys who are like 8 to 10 sack level guys
Starting point is 01:10:53 and not a guy like a Robert Mathis or Dwight Frini, you know, I keep you up at night type guy that you have to game plan for. But they're hoping that Latsu can be that guy. But this is a pass rush that has been effective and can continue to be effective. And, you know, it's not anemic like it was a couple of years ago. They've really improved that room. All right. So if Richardson plays the efficient game, tell me what his line looks like in terms of passing yards, completions.
Starting point is 01:11:19 How much is he running? How much is he being able to avoid getting hurt? Because obviously that was a huge part of the reason why his season was so short last year. Yeah, I think an efficient game for him, and you guys are going to laugh at this, but this is kind of how low the bar is. I think an efficient game for him is like 12 of 20. You know, can you get that off? That's 65%. Yeah, can you get that to 55, 60%.
Starting point is 01:11:43 I mean, that's how low the bar is right now. I mean, that would be an improvement based on who he's been. But 12 of 20 for a buck 50, a buck 75, and then 50 to 75 on the ground. A couple of touchdowns, maybe limited to one or zero turnovers. I think most Colts fans would take that. Really, guys, that's the most troubling thing. Like with Richardson, there had been moments. There's been a throw, a series, even sometimes a quarter.
Starting point is 01:12:09 I remember the beginning of the game last year in Houston. He looked amazing for the first quarter and a half before he ended up leaving the game. The problem is that we don't really have a game to point to an Indianapolis where you say, hey, that was a really good game for Anthony Richardson. And, you know, that's troubling about a year and a half in that you can't really point to a full four quarters and say, hey, that was a really good performance. We're only getting little flashes and plays and throws kind of mixed in there. You said 50 to 75 yards.
Starting point is 01:12:37 Is that what Shane Sankan wants? Is that number of rushing errors from his quarterback? Yeah, he's not scared about running him, and he's come out and said as much. He knows that that is the NFL ready skill that he can tap into right away. Everything else requires more development as far as him being a quarterback and especially him being a passer, but the running stuff translates right away.
Starting point is 01:12:58 And they know that using Richardson and having that threat unlocks Taylor as well. One thing that's held the Colts back in the last couple of weeks is that they've had, Tower Goodson and Trace Herman back there who are basically practice squad level running backs and then with Joe Flacco when he has started, the running game hasn't been a threat at all, but with Richardson
Starting point is 01:13:19 and Taylor, that's something that opposing defenses are really going to have to pay attention to it and maybe can unlock some things in the passing game as well, again, as long as Richardson can tap into some semblance of accuracy. All right, you mentioned first place on the line, of course, there's a lot of football
Starting point is 01:13:35 still to be played, but how do you feel this one plays out on Sunday. Yeah, I feel that it's going to be probably pretty similar to game number one. I think once you get Taylor and Buckner back, that gives the Colts much more of a fighting chance. Also, you take Nico out of the equation as well, who's caused them a lot of problems. I'm seeing, again, a close loss. It would be great for the Colts to go in there and win, but this is really a murderous stress that they're about to go into.
Starting point is 01:14:06 and frankly, guys, in the last couple of weeks, they've beaten the Hurtwell Levis. They've beaten the Miami Dolphins, who I think had me at quarterback for most of that game. They've beaten a lot of light competition. The Chicago Bears, they've been a lot of light competition so far. This is a real step up here where they get the Texans and the Vikings
Starting point is 01:14:22 and the bills and a bunch of real contenders. All right, great hearing your voice. I'll let you go back to that Caitlin Clark fan convention you were at earlier today, and we'll talk in maybe come playoff time. You never know. Thanks, Derek, for the visit, as always. I'll send you guys to sign jersey.
Starting point is 01:14:35 How about that? Oh, you know what? I would do it. I put on eBay right away. I think we get some value out of that. Hey, thanks for the gift. All right, buddy, see you later. Derek Schultz. Good, listen, Caitlin Clark autographed gear, Ross? I'll take it. I'll take it. I'll take that. For a decade. That's your retirement plan. Oof. Yeah. But if you didn't play, they have a little lockout. What are you going to do about that? They'll play eventually. Yeah, they will.
Starting point is 01:14:57 All right. 143 on Sports Talk, Semini. Ross, where is your non-Florida story from today? That's from outside of the state of Florida, Matt. I mean, why do you always ask that? Because I want to put you on the spot to see exactly where you found it. It's from Romania. Mine is from Germany. Wow. So not too far away. It doesn't involve an airplane either.
Starting point is 01:15:17 Those are for once? Those are kind of my favorite. We might have the same one. Uh-oh. Yeah, I need to go ahead and convene. Okay, if you have my story, I'm going to let you have it because I'm going to go try to find a one that's a little more seedier. Okay. 713, 212.
Starting point is 01:15:32 5790. 713-1-2-5-790. 145. Matt Thomas show Ross continues here on Sports Talk 790. This is Ricky Williams. I may have worn a wedding dress on a magazine cover, but it still looks better than any outfit Matt can put together. Let your wife dress you, man. Texas fine. Texas fun. Back to Matt Thomas on Sports Talk 790. All right, so Connor did steal my not in Florida story. Steal. Steal. Nobody owns one story for the second.
Starting point is 01:16:12 Steel is a strong term, just for the segment. All right. 713-212-5-790. 7-1-3-212-5-7-90. I'm looking at, I always go to the New York Post for stories sometimes because they're a little salacious over there in that publication. Do you know that Bill Belichick's girlfriend is 24 years old? Yes.
Starting point is 01:16:38 I've heard that before. I mean. She's dated some older other older men, right? or am I thinking of Al Pacino's lady? Well, Al Pacino's lady birthed a child to Al Pacino, so... Yeah, he's in his 80s, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:16:51 But damn, why would any attractive 24-year-old want to hang out with an old 70-something-plus coach? You know, there's somebody for everyone, Matt. Is that what it is? Yes, and Bill Belichick's probably got a lot of money. Oh, I think he does, too, for sure. But I'm just saying, I mean, you can still find
Starting point is 01:17:10 54-year-old dudes with money. Well, maybe she likes 80-year-old dudes. Is that a fetish or some sort of daddy issue thing? They're closer to death, Maddox. It's a grandpa issue? Yeah, but if I'm 75 and a 24-year-old wants to hook up with me, you're not going to what? Well, of course, if, well, you're happily married now.
Starting point is 01:17:33 Yeah, so it wouldn't be an issue. Theoretical, we're in the, one of the multiverses where you're not married at this point. You wouldn't. I'd sign a pre-up. I can tell you that for damn sure. Marry me all you want, but you're not getting my money. You'd be, yeah, whatever. You'd be jumping in with both feet.
Starting point is 01:17:49 You wouldn't even think about it. You think so little of me. I don't know how to respond to that statement. Don't. Don't even do it. Don't even do it. 713-212-5-780. So our buddy Derek Schultz likes the Colts to lose the Texans for a second time.
Starting point is 01:18:12 I mean, the Colts, let me take it. And not that I'm some football savant, but the Texans are significantly better than the Colts. Pittman's been a major disappointment this year at receiver. They haven't had Jonathan Taylor consistently week after week after week. He's coming back. But, they're coming back. Heart and Soul of the defense.
Starting point is 01:18:31 Okay, well, it's going to take a while to get the engines revved up again. Hmm. Right? I guess. They've been practicing. Getting ready to go. I mean, even though you are missing Nico and he has been a cult killer. Yes. It's not like Stefan Diggs can't move down the field.
Starting point is 01:18:48 Not that they can't use Dalton Shultz more on the offense. Not that they can make a concerted effort to start, get Tankdale more involved in the offense. Mm-hmm. It's just, you know what you kind of need? You need a 10, 14-point wind to get your mojo back a little bit. And if you don't, you're really going to have some people. You think Stan Norflea's been wanting to jump off the, off the brink. after last week's loss.
Starting point is 01:19:12 If they lose the Colts, all those fake Texas media people are going to lose their mind because they're not going to be able to get a part of their championship rings. So what you're saying is this is a must-win game to the Texans. No, I'm not saying it's a must-win game. Because the division's poor.
Starting point is 01:19:25 I mean, it's not good. Jack Wares won two of the last three. I got a tough part of their schedule coming up, though. Yeah. Titans are a hot mess. Titans are terrible. Yeah. They're giving up.
Starting point is 01:19:36 They're literally trading away their receivers. They're giving up on the season. They're going to have to go get a quarterback. Yes, they are because it ain't Well, well, and that's when Thomas Sports Enterprises. Tom's Sports Enterprises will have the official to take the L when they drafted a quarterback in the first round.
Starting point is 01:19:47 You know what? Maybe he was drafted in the second round. Maybe he can have a late career renaissance like Baker Mayfield or Sam Darnold. But right now, Tennessee. He is. You can't have a renaissance unless you've had some good times to begin with. Well, when he's not turning the ball over, he's not that bad. The problem is he's just turning the ball over a ton.
Starting point is 01:20:03 And they're the worst kind of turnovers. They're not the ones that are deflected or it was in tight covered or 50, 50 balls. Maybe he'll mature. Well, Thomas Sports. enterprises remains bullish. Mm-hmm. But we're backing off slightly. You notice we've not had much bravado concerning him.
Starting point is 01:20:18 No, I know. It's fine. The mayonnaise eater. The fact is, this is a tough week for the Texas. You've got the Sunday game, and then you go to New York on Thursday. Now, granted, the Jets are not very good, but it's a short trip. Yes. On the road, long trip.
Starting point is 01:20:32 They could have us on Redick back by then, the Jets. What's going on with that situation? Apparently, the sides are meeting now that his CAA fired him. You should explain who that is. That's his agency, yes. Hassan Reddick, he's a very good defender for the judges. Didn't the Jets trade for him to begin with?
Starting point is 01:20:49 And then he hasn't played or hasn't... I don't remember. I think he just wants a deal. And he's been holding... He's lost, like, he's been hemorrhaging money. Yeah. He's lost millions and millions since holding out. And the Jets hold all the control.
Starting point is 01:20:59 They have the leverage. Yeah. So they're like, you know, I won't get in until I renegotiate. Well, then... Well, he hired Drew Rosenhaus now. I'm going to try to iron it out. So Drew's going to save this thing. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:21:11 I hope not. I hope he's not playing against the Texans. All right. So that's coming up on Thursday. So, I don't know. We'll see. It's Thursday night bit every week. That's tough on these teams.
Starting point is 01:21:23 I mean, are the worst teams winning on Thursday night? Or is the home team just have a significant advantage? I mean, the Rams were three-point dogs last night. But the Rams are nothing close in terms of talent-wise. But they got Pooka back and Cooper Cup back. And both of those guys, funny enough, you get two your best receivers back in the offense is a lot better. They scored, what, 28, 30 points on the best defense in the league. Thursday night game week two.
Starting point is 01:21:46 The first one was Bills won by three touchdowns at Miami. Well, their bills are a better team. Two is brain exploded. Jets won by three touchdowns against the Patriots. Patriots suck. Yes. And then the Cowboys barely wanted the Giants the week after that. And then the Falcons beat the Buccaneers in overtime.
Starting point is 01:22:04 Well, I don't see a train. Yeah, that was a back and forth. That was actually a really good game. And the Broncos through like five out of four. yards stole the souls of any remaining member of the New Orleans Saints fan community last week. Spencer Rattler couldn't come through. Yeah, it's bad.
Starting point is 01:22:19 It's bad. All right, 713-212 5790. 713-212-5-790. It is anything goes Friday. What is your prediction on the game? I have it as 2820. That's my prediction. Yeah. 20. That's how I know.
Starting point is 01:22:37 I'm going to be way wrong. No, you should feel good that somebody is backing you up on your prediction. That's a Texans covering and over for those you playing at home. Yeah, those of you playing at home. I have the Cougars beating Utah. Okay. In a low scoring affair. Okay. And you have Vandy in the upset, correct? I have Texas beating Vanderbilt.
Starting point is 01:22:55 Have you made an LSU A&M prediction? And LSU will win. And LSU will win an A&M. Ooh, spicy. Yeah. And there will only be one undefeated in league team remaining. And then LSU, would they have the, would they have the Would they have the leaders in the clear path? Yeah, I don't know.
Starting point is 01:23:14 Yeah, if you stay undefeated in the league, you're going on the championship game. Everybody else has a loss. I mean, could there be other two losses left in LSU schedules, my question? I don't know. That's a question for Gordy. Let's see. Number eight in the land, they play at A&M, home versus Alabama. Alabama needs to get a revenge game back to so they can get their stake in the championship game.
Starting point is 01:23:34 At Florida and then home for Vandy and home for Oklahoma. So really, if they beat Alabama, they're going on the SEC championship game. And of course, A&M. In Vanderbilt. And your boy, Diego Pavia. 11 touchdowns, one pick. He's having a good year.
Starting point is 01:23:50 They upset Alabama. Mm-mm. I saw him. Very, very lucky. Well, they did lose to Georgia Southern. I'm just saying. Or Georgia State. One of those.
Starting point is 01:24:01 I think Georgia State. 158 on Sports Talk 799. Florida stories and a half an hour. Believe it or not, today is all things about the World Series. I was going to say, how did you know that? But now I remember. Go. Dodgers.
Starting point is 01:24:15 Let's go Dodgers. Let's go Dodgers. I still feel like a dirty horse saying. You want Brian Cashman to get a ring after what he said? No chance. I don't want him to get a ring. I want the game to be canceled due to lack of interest. With the two biggest brands, I'm curious to see how these ratings look.
Starting point is 01:24:30 First of all, they're going to blow away the lowest ratings ever from last year. Yeah, text there is always like, bye. 713-212-2-790. 7-190. 12.5.7.90. Final hour, Matt Thomas Show with Ross next. Lunch timers. This is the Matt Thomas show. All right. It is 203 on Sports Talk 790. Good afternoon. It is Matt and Ross with the final hour of the show. 713. 212. 570. 719. I want my lines lit with Texans people calling in with predictions.
Starting point is 01:25:10 Okay. When I want and what I get is two different things. Okay. I don't know. I just tell me, give me the pulse of the city. The pulse of city says that they get really excited for the game about Sunday about 11 o'clock in the morning. But other than that, interest is up, but they're not exactly taken over the city yet. And that's basically how things go.
Starting point is 01:25:32 Because the soft five and two. Is that the reason why? Tell me. I wouldn't call it that. Things are looking up. But you need to see, you need years of sustained winning. It took that with the Astros. It took that with the Rockets, well, in the 1990s.
Starting point is 01:25:51 Interest was up, and we took a lot of Rockets calls back around 16, 17, 18, when they were making Western Conference finals. I just want, all I'm asking for is this. And look, we don't have anything Astros to get to. I know we got a huge Astros audience. There's nothing new on Breggman. We won't know anything on Breggman at all until at least five days after the World Series, because the Astros will offer him a qualifying deal.
Starting point is 01:26:13 He'll decline it. He'll decline it. And then the conversation begins after that. I think our college interest is spread out over a bunch of different schools. I don't want to say fractured. Spread out. Spread out. It's worse.
Starting point is 01:26:29 Fracture would be. That sounds like nobody wants any part of it. I don't know. You know, do Texans fans just check out of the game? because it's the Colts coming up? I don't know. Because we didn't get much buzz for the game against Buffalo going in. We got zero buzz the New England game going in.
Starting point is 01:26:48 Everybody's locked in on the election, Matt. Is that what it is? Yeah, maybe they're just getting dozens of calls on KTRH. Well, all I know is I'm leaving for the Toyota Center early because I don't get caught up any traffic. Yeah, ridiculous. So you have all these celebrities going to these political conventions, these rallies.
Starting point is 01:27:07 If I was to run for political office, Ross, Yes. Who should I bring with me to my rally? Taylor, Mathis. If you let her be, girls are going through enough of her issues right now. That's, I don't know. Who are your celebrity friends?
Starting point is 01:27:22 I would go Paul McCartney. Bunby and Paul and Bunby. Paul McCartney does not know who you are. Well, if he believed in the political idolologies. What's your political platform? What are you running on? I'm not running anything. I'm running, you know what I'm running on?
Starting point is 01:27:37 No more text from political people. That'd be great. I got one just a minute ago. How are you going to get your message out? My vocal cords? And maybe a text. Yeah, we said a text. I would see.
Starting point is 01:27:49 Here's my political philosophies. Okay. No more reclining seats on airplanes. No matter. Oh, come on. Nope. No, you're not getting my vote. I thought you would be voting on a ban the wave platform.
Starting point is 01:28:00 Ban the wave. 12 months full McRibbs available at all. Oh, yeah. You're not getting my vote at all. Gambling in Texas. Pressed pork grist pork gristed cheese. each year round. That's what should, though. That's the platform you're choosing, Matt. With tangy barbecue sauce, delicious pickles onions and a toasted bun.
Starting point is 01:28:20 Full-time gambling. Well, I like that. Now you're getting me in my vote. Four day work weeks. Now, okay, I'm in. Let's go. What else? And lower Uber costs, I never have to drive again. Lower Uber costs. Well, you're going to talk to Uber about that.
Starting point is 01:28:36 Yeah. A lot of the drivers aren't making. It's not like the drivers are just, you know. Here are the things about drivers that makes me sad. And I don't know if they're doing this because they want me to tip them more or whatever, but I've had two of the last maybe five or six Uber rides I've been in saying they've asked me how much I paid for the route that I was on. And I would tell them. And he goes, oh, we're only getting 25, 30% of that. They probably shouldn't be asking me, correct? No, that's interesting.
Starting point is 01:29:02 I don't know if Uber changed the, I thought that they, generally the driver I thought made like 70% or something. I don't think it's that much at all. But the guy that took me from the airport to my house made me feel terrible for him. So I gave him a large tip. This is generally, maybe airports could be different. That's true. Maybe airports are different. 75% of the fair price is what this Google says.
Starting point is 01:29:27 Is that right? That's what it was. That's pretty good then. Plus you get 100% of the tips. It's, yeah. I don't think it's a pathway to, to, uh, nobody's retiring going on all. My job is a stockbroker to drive cars. I get that.
Starting point is 01:29:43 Yeah. But you got to get lucky. You got to find the right spots. You've got to be in places where fairs are going to surge. And, well, back when I was driving, there was no tips. Maybe I should get back into it. I think you should, I've told you this on multiple occasions. I really want you driving for the stories.
Starting point is 01:30:03 I got no stories. See, you do have stories. You've never told the stories. And you're never going to tell them. stories. No stories. No stories. You've got them. I swear to God you do. But you won't tell them. What if I paid you to tell them? Nothing at
Starting point is 01:30:17 well, then maybe we can talk. You know, we call it Uber forms. Remember how Penn House forms back in the day? Yeah, I was all made up, so I'll make up some stories. If you're going to pay me. No, I need to be organic and true. If I didn't hate driving, I'd be an Uber driver. Yeah, you do hate driving. But it's really, I mean,
Starting point is 01:30:38 the thing about Uber that's really good, and it's also Lyft, is that you work your own hours. Yes. You can pick up any ride you want to or say no, they don't command you to go somewhere. If you're living comfortably enough to where you can have a car where that's the only thing you do in that car, it's probably a good side gig, I think. If I have to maintain the car and all that stuff and clean it. If I had an electric car, I probably would do it. Where I live, I know that there's people that do Uber driving because I see them always cleaning their car and stuff.
Starting point is 01:31:06 And literally, that one time I called an Uber at my place and they picked me up. Really? Yeah, they were in the, we were in the same parking lot. What a shady deal that is. Why is it shady? I don't know. No, they're just waiting to pick up fares and you're sitting at home waiting for a fare to ping, and then it pinged and it happened to be at my place. So, no, that's not shady, though.
Starting point is 01:31:25 That's actually very smart on their behalf. It's coincidental, yeah. But see, I think if we're going to go to an Uber, we need to do something more. Like, should we have Uber themes? What do you mean? Like Uber sports talk. Oh, I like that. Uber political talk.
Starting point is 01:31:41 Oh, I wouldn't want to get in that one. Like if you were voting for Kamala Harris, you could only talk about democratic politics. Well, sometimes I get in the Uber and they have 790 on. Mine is usually eclectic 80s music. Yeah, I mean, it's happened a couple times. Is it EDM? Is that they call it? EDM? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:32:02 I have EDM had half the time. Interesting. Usually, never mind. But I've gotten in a few times when they've had 790 on and I'll start talking sports with them. Do you act stupid? Like, do you ever listen to that show? I do, absolutely. Has it worked out okay every time?
Starting point is 01:32:17 Well, because my Uber account, it has my first name, which is Paul. Oh, so you could actually get away with that day. Yes. And then sometimes, and yeah, yeah, Connor had this happen to him, right? And then at the end of the ride, I'll be like, oh, my name is Ross. I'm on the Matt Thomas show. And thank God my name's on the show now, so I don't sound so stupid. You're welcome.
Starting point is 01:32:39 I guess. I don't know. Okay. But, yeah, I would have to do, if we're going to create another business, We got to make it ours Uber separate from everybody else. But Connor, Connor, weren't you,
Starting point is 01:32:50 somebody was listening or what, what happened? Why forget you were tweeting about it? I was on the way to the airport, yeah, and I walked in, I sat in the car and he was listening to $790, and I asked him what his favorite show was,
Starting point is 01:33:00 and he said it was the Matt Thomas show. Oh, man. Did you give him a big tip? Oh, yeah, I did. Yeah. That's good. Yeah, if you ever take me anywhere in this town, which I ride Uber sometimes here in Houston,
Starting point is 01:33:10 if you mention my show name, you're going to a 40% bump. Wow. If you mention another, station town, especially with a pair of hosts that I don't like, you're going to get no tip and zero stars. Hashtag bad taste. Yeah, I've never been in a car, thankfully, where they said they didn't like the show. That hasn't happened before. That'd be really awkward. Yeah, I wouldn't have told him I was the producer if he said he didn't like them at Tom the show. Okay, that's good. That's good. That's good. All right, so back to the Texans. You should have. Confront them. Yeah, you know what you like about it? You got to convert. Yeah, your job would be to convert. Oh, okay. Like, have you listened to the Friday show opens? They're pretty good.
Starting point is 01:33:44 The Friday show opens are fantastic. I mean, people around the city tuning in Friday's at noon. Yes. Yeah. 713-212-5-790. 7-1-3-212-5-7-90. World Series predictions? Well, we know you have Dodgers in 5.
Starting point is 01:34:03 Dodgers and 5. That was locked in very early. Terrible. It's to tell the bad takes. So, by the way, I was watching the Today show today. Okay. they're, now remember, they're not sporty people at all.
Starting point is 01:34:17 They are faux-sportsy. They're, yeah, they pretend to be sportsy. The series everyone in the country has been waiting for. I don't think so. No. The evil empires. I get a feeling that Billings, Montana, didn't really particularly care who was in the World Series.
Starting point is 01:34:31 Do you think it's kind of an added element of because it's an uncapped, because baseball's payrolls are uncapped and those are two of the biggest spenders? I think if it were too, What are the evil empires of, say, I mean, we don't have this in other sport. Basketball? When it's Celtics and Lakers, I don't think people are as tuned out.
Starting point is 01:34:52 No, they think it's NFL. What would the absolute evil empire, would it be cowboys and who? Oh, the bitter rival on the AFC side would be the Raiders. Hmm. Or Steelers. See, that's a hard cap league. I just feel like whoever's in the Super Bowl, whoever it is. No, I think the people, the reason why people tend to think that the Dodgers Yankees,
Starting point is 01:35:12 is this sexy series is because it's LA versus New York. It's West Coast versus Broadway. But I think a lot of the backlash is those are two of the hugest spending teams over the years. And it's like, oh, you're buying World Series rings. But the average fan, but the average person, forget my fan, the average
Starting point is 01:35:28 person doesn't know that. I'm not talking about the average person. I'm just talking about the average people who are into baseball and like kind of soured somewhat on this series. But let me ask you this. I know for me. When the Astros don't make it to the World Series, who's the most attractive team you want to see from the
Starting point is 01:35:44 American League play? You'll see nobody. The Orioles. See, you don't even believe that. Michael Ayas and the boys. You don't believe it. All the Jackson's and the Jets and the whoever they have. The Adleys? My answer honestly is, I don't care who, if it's not the Astros, I'm not going to pay much
Starting point is 01:36:00 attention. Will I turn it on, regardless of who it is? Like, I turned Diamondbacks Rangers on last year, but it was not. But it was not very interesting. You're sick human being. But I mean, I'll, when I get, like, we've got to tonight. after the Rockets game. I'll be going to the airport.
Starting point is 01:36:15 I'll turn the game on the radio and see who's winning. Okay. Or I'll be listening to the Rockets rap. You'll be saying, Go Dodgers. Yeah, I will say Go Dodgers. Rockets Rap with Dan Matthews. Yeah, I will say go. We had to swap so he can go and root on it.
Starting point is 01:36:26 One of his college teams, the LSU Tigers. Okay. Rockets and Grizzlies tonight at 630 in the pregame show, Adam Clanton. I'm sure it will be great. And you'll be sitting in the Stan North Fleet seats tonight. Yeah, the Stan Northfleet section is how it's known, even though they're your tickets. 7-13-212-2-7-9.
Starting point is 01:36:42 the Matt Thomas show with Ross 713212-5-790. This is the Matt Thomas show. Matt Thomas on Sports Talk 790. Ross will be giving you a full report on dudes on dudes on his nightcap show next time he has one. It's a minute-by-minute breakdown. Dudes on dudes. And then a minute three, Rob Grankowski lost his train of thought. Then minute five, he lost his train of thought again.
Starting point is 01:37:15 He said, Ma, want some more Cheetos. Yes. You ever know how meatheads called their mother's ma? And then minute eight, they started talking about Tom Brady again. And then they said their name, dudes on dudes. And they started a minute nine, awkward sauce, awkward silence, followed by awkward laughter. It's a great program, I'm sure. I would download it if I cared.
Starting point is 01:37:39 713-212-570. 7-1-3-1-2-5-7-19. Since Connor's stole my non-flora story, I'm going to New Zealand for my. Oh, wait, for real? Yeah, I said New Zealand a couple of weeks ago. Oh, I had one. I lost it. Where'd my store? Oh, I was going to do the one, the North Dakota one. I'll find it.
Starting point is 01:37:57 Okay, we got that coming up at the bottom of the hour. 713-212-5-790. So we're going, let's go Dodgers. We got that taken care of. Let's go Texans. Yes. Let's go Tigers or let's go Aggies on Saturday night. I think LSU wins, but, you know, the middle son's an Aggie,
Starting point is 01:38:15 so I kind of kind of have to help him root for his squad. I had no rooting interest in that one, I don't think. Yeah. What else we got going? Let's go Niners beat the Cowboys, put them under 500 at 3 and 4? Sure. Go Niners. Yeah, always root against the Cowboys every week.
Starting point is 01:38:31 It's fun. It is easy, isn't it? Yeah. He says, when Jer is mad, America's happy. Does Jerry even know where he is half the time? Yes, he does, Matt. He knows when he's on a radio show and he's threatening those guys' jobs. So I guess apparently he went back on that show.
Starting point is 01:38:45 Oh, he did? Yeah. Good. How did it go? Let by guys be better. Oh, good. He cooled off. Yeah. That's great. I will give credit when general managers and coaches do weekly shows.
Starting point is 01:38:54 Yes. You used to have the monthly Jeff Luno show. Yeah, that was fun. Yeah. That was also when the team was losing 95 games a year. And it's like, tell us about this guy at double age. Joel Springer. Yeah, he knew every single, you'd be talking about some guy in low A ball who was never going to be anything. It was like 23 years old and low A ball and he still know everything about it. Well, that's what general manager is supposed to do. Yeah. That's what Dana Brown. I mean, that's what Dana Brown's specialty was the minor leagues or at least drafting it. put together. So far they're dropping.
Starting point is 01:39:19 I mean, they've been promoting them aggressively. Things have been going well. I think of Dana-Brice Matthews this year. We may see Derek, is it Derek Mountain? Is that her that a kid's name? Jacob Milton. Jacob Milton. An enterprise young man. Yes, he was. These are names we better start to memorize and get to know because we're going to lose some
Starting point is 01:39:37 more players here in the not too distant future. What are you talking about? You're going to need a new right fielder after next year. You think so? You need a new right. You're going to need a new third basement this year. coming up. Is it Shea Wittcomb season?
Starting point is 01:39:55 I mean, I would take Zach DeSenzo, but that was only tried like for an inning or so, and that was by necessity. I think defensively he does not profile as one who can handle that job long term. We saw it Shea Wickham had three errors in one inning. Well, short term, he looked pretty bad. Yeah, that was. They're setting records.
Starting point is 01:40:12 Hashtag off season. You never want to set a record defensively at third base. It's probably going to be errors. All right. So let's make some more predictions. When we get together Monday at 12 noon, will we be discussing, wow, glad to have CJ with an offensive line protection or CJ's a miracle worker again being able to do what he did despite all the pass rush?
Starting point is 01:40:34 I think the, it will be better. It would be better. First of all, they're at home. Second of all, you couldn't have played any worse than you played last week. I can't be any worse than they were last week. They were better in the second half. Yeah. And the past rush night is great for the Colts.
Starting point is 01:40:55 Bobby Sloke's been wearing it lately. People do not like Bobby Slok. But you loved him eight weeks ago when the season started. I loved him in the off season. And the off season, no, Bobby Sloak is getting interviewed by those Falcons and whoever else. Bobby, please stay. Just to start us on the beginning of greatness here. One more year.
Starting point is 01:41:13 One more year. Now week six. They're five and two and six weeks in. Bobby Sloak sucks. Okay. It's Shanahan Tree stuff. Don't be surprised they try to establish the run every week. Guess what?
Starting point is 01:41:25 They're going to try to establish a run this week too. Shocking. You want to go five wide throw it 60 times a game. That's not going to be Bobby Sloick and that's not going to be this team. And that's never been something that Domingo's ever wanted to talk about. I mean, the really good teams have controlled running games. Not that you're giving it 35 times a game to your running back, but you're using to make sure that first down gets you four to five yards.
Starting point is 01:41:49 you're not setting yourself up with second and long and third and longs because the more you do often you do that, the more predictable you become as an offense and it's more turnover prone when you're finding yourself in long distances on second and third down. Look at you, Matt. But how about Bobby Slow giving him credit?
Starting point is 01:42:06 He said I goofed yesterday. Yeah. He said, that's on me. He says the third down play was bad. It was bad. Yeah, if they were expecting one coverage, they got another. And he said he's not coaching the protections better. well enough.
Starting point is 01:42:20 Well, the thing I don't necessarily understand what he didn't want to say was that play call didn't make any sense. Because if you were running in on first and second down and you didn't get what you wanted to get, you might as well force the Packers to burn the third time out because you're giving them about the same amount of time.
Starting point is 01:42:38 Yeah, well, he said the play call, the intended play call was for them to try to get a touchdown. So they were trying to score. And again, everything is, everything is glass, ad hoc. glass if it's 20-20. If that play would have gone for a first down, hindsight, touchdown, oh, what a play call. You're suckering him in. You're thinking going to run it a third time. Yeah, run on first go down goes for negative one yards.
Starting point is 01:43:00 This is stupid. Why are we running on first down? Run on first down goes for nine yards. Oh my gosh, great execution guys. Yeah. Players got to execute as well. And nine times out of ten is about the execution. I mean, very rarely have we ever seen a team look at the sideline with their hands up in they're like, you want us to do this? Yeah, if every run play is blocked perfectly, it's a first down. Yeah. If every pass play is blocked perfectly, well, okay, I guess you can cover it.
Starting point is 01:43:27 But you get my point. If it's not executed, if people are blowing blocks, Kenyon Green, then there's going to be issues. The fact is, Bobby Sloa can call a perfect game. And CJ Strach can make all the throws, which we know he can. The line game no chance to do that. And the line did not play well in the fourth quarter when Joe Mixon needed a few yards to get forward to get even to the end zone to threat for a touchdown to make it a more
Starting point is 01:43:51 than a field goal game. And they'll be better this week. They're playing a worst defense. They're at home. I expect a high scoring game for the Texans. So if the Texans win this one, we're going to be like, orders restored, feeling good, had to do what they had to do. Now, just don't go lose one on a short week at the Jets. And if they lose this game, it's full panic.
Starting point is 01:44:13 Texan Darlene cancels her trip to New York. No, she wouldn't do that because she wants to get on. on TV, so forget that what I said. Yes. Six and two versus five and three and tied for first. That's, yeah, that's huge. Important game this week. Does the Chats though are not very good?
Starting point is 01:44:29 They could be better. Devante Adams another week of practice. Garrett Wilson's tough. Breeze Hall's a good running back? Yes. They're giving Breece Hall all the carries now. They have too many stars. They have too many stars and they seem to be as bad as they are.
Starting point is 01:44:43 I agree. Maybe their offensive line sucks. I don't know. I've been breaking down a whole lot of Jets tape. Who watches the Jets? Why would you... Well, you should all be watching the Jets because they're on national television every week.
Starting point is 01:44:54 That's true. They're like this year's version of the Denver Broncos. Remember how Denver was on national TV every week last year? Like, oh, good, another Jets national game. Great. All right. Now, Florida stories are up next. 2.28 on Sports Talk 790.
Starting point is 01:45:06 We've got, believe it or not, today coming up at 2.50. It's all things about... Is it the history of the World Series? Is that right? History. And you really went back to the archives to get some stuff down. Yes, and these are all eight fresh questions. Really?
Starting point is 01:45:17 Yes. What kind of your Cheerios today? That's good. I don't know. A little extra bite. That's good. I don't have to stay around for, never mind. For the nightcap?
Starting point is 01:45:26 Yeah, because that's a show nobody cares about it. You just, you mail it in. I like doing the show. I just don't like hanging out for three hours to do it. The right thing would be to put Wexler and Clayton from three to seven. Well, I don't. That's your opinion. But they know they want to get the numbers up, so they put me on at six, you know?
Starting point is 01:45:43 Is that what it is? I'm kidding. Hmm. You did boast about those night camp numbers during the baseball season, ironically enough. I didn't boast anything. Oh, I do have the comments written down somewhere.
Starting point is 01:45:57 713212-5-799. Starting point is 01:46:52 online to fill out that form at QualityTX.com. We find interesting stories that occur outside the state of Florida and share them with the people of Houston. It's time for non-flot
Starting point is 01:47:12 Mine is rather tame. I was going to go with cocaine and pizza, but oh, I didn't mean to give that story away. See how he bitterly spoils your story? God, that was terrible. I apologize. You did that on purpose. No, no, no. It's a tease. Childish. If you like your cocaine and pizza, you'll
Starting point is 01:48:17 find out next with Connor McGonnell. He did it again. All right. Have you ever flown into the Dunedin, New Zealand Airport? We found another airline story? Yes. The what now? Dunedin. New Zealand. I thought you
Starting point is 01:48:33 said Dunn-D. I was like, they named their airport after crocodile, Dunedie? No, no. Dunedin. D-U-N-E-D-N-E-D-I-N-D-I-N, New Zealand. Isn't there a Deneed in Florida? Yes, sir, it's, a home of the Toronto Blue Jays. Okay. Go ahead. No, I haven't. Now, when you drop people, before I go on here further,
Starting point is 01:48:50 when you drop somebody off of the airport, running through what that's like for you, when you drop a friend off of the airport or a girl at the airport, and you park, and you get their luggage out, you give them a hug and a smooch and maybe a quick squeeze, and then you get out of there. And how long would that normally take? 90 seconds?
Starting point is 01:49:07 Okay, I'm glad you brought that up because the folks in the New Zealand airport are now adding a new three-minute time limit on goodbye hugs at the airport drop-off area. What are people making out for two minutes? It is intended to prevent lingering cuddles from causing traffic jams. What are they doing? Lingering cuddles, get a room. There is a sign outside the terminal that says, quote, max hug time three minutes. It says, those seeking, quote, Fonder farewells should head of the airport's parking lot instead.
Starting point is 01:49:45 The cuddle cap was imposed in September to keep things move. The cuddle cap was imposed in September to keep things moving smoothly in the redesigned passenger drop-off area outside the airport. It's the airport's way reminding people that the zone was for quick farewells only. How do they enforce this? Well, it must be cops that do it. They're screaming at people? They got a timer? Okay.
Starting point is 01:50:08 Is it like a shot clock? So you described what 99.9% of the people do when you drop somebody off of the airport. What does the other point one do? Does it become a makeout session? Have you ever in my life? And I have been dropped off of the airport, let's just say 5,000 times. Okay. I have never seen anyone full-up making out at an airport before they leave off.
Starting point is 01:50:36 Just leave them to say goodbye. No. I've gotten in a smooch or two. But again, this is a max of about 75 seconds. Right. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know what these New Zealand. Maybe it's a cultural thing in New Zealand.
Starting point is 01:50:50 Does they just sit there and hold each other? Maybe they do that whole, what's that stomping dance that they do? Maybe they do all that. Now, they want you to go to the parking area if you need a longer than three-minute hug. That's basically, let's have sex in the car. if we're going to be longer than three minutes. Well, can't you do that beforehand? That's my point.
Starting point is 01:51:14 Go to the cell phone lot and start romping around. Why do you want to mess around the cell phone lot? Yeah. To use a baseball vernacular, can you get to first base in a cell phone lot? Oh, gosh. You just had to turn it here, didn't you? Second base? You can slide into home.
Starting point is 01:51:35 How tinted are your windows? Now, I've heard of people. You know what, this is. I'm sorry. I've heard of. I apologize for participating. I've heard of people going to... There's like observation areas on Lee Road by the Bay Airport
Starting point is 01:51:53 where people probably have done things. Observation areas. Yeah. You know, you parked your car. Oh. You watch the planes land. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 01:52:03 But the poor people in Dunedin are having three minute embraces before they leave. That seems absurd. Get the bags out. Tell them good luck. Tell them to text you. When you get there, give a quick pick. Peck, kiss, and get out. Okay.
Starting point is 01:52:19 I agree, Matt. So, Dunning, good for you for the cuddle cap. And that is my non-Florna story. Okay. Thank you. Matt, I'll let me take you to Minot or Minot, North Dakota, where there's a woman named Ina Thia Kanoir, who was betroth to Stephen Wright.
Starting point is 01:52:46 Jr. And well, they had heard some good news that they were going to inherit because of a death in the family, $30 million. They met with an estate lawyer on September 3rd of 2023. Later that day, Mr. Stephen Riley became ill with paramedics arriving at his home the next day to find him unresponsive. And unfortunately, he was declared dead the next day. Sorry to hear about that. After an investigation, police found that Ina, Thea Kanoir, thinking that she was going to be the beneficiary of a $30 million windfall, poisoned and killed her husband with anti-freeze.
Starting point is 01:53:36 Ooh, that's got to be painful. And not tasty. It gets worse. Uh-oh. Investigators also learned that the inheritance was not real. They were getting scammed by this inheritance lawyer who was trying to grift money from them. She was found guilty of murder. And Ryan Riley, the son, was very upset, released a statement talking about how you took a son from his mother, father from his sons, etc.
Starting point is 01:54:11 All for a scam. She poisoned and killed her husband in North Dakota. Now, did she make a cocktail with this antifreeze in it? Or how did she just open his mouth and pour it down his throat? I don't know. It does not specify just that she poisoned him with Annie for a freeze, thinking she was going to get $30 million, but the couple was getting scammed. We got to get the rights to this movie.
Starting point is 01:54:33 No, we don't because I've got to show somebody drinking antifreeze. I'm good. It's not going to be real, Matt. It's acting. Yeah. There's murders and movies. I don't know, 75% of movies? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:54:43 I like romantic comedies. I know you do. You're right. You like, if the real housewives were in it, you'd be down. Yeah, that's true. Or members of Beverly Hills on 210. And you like meeting somebody at the tree farm and falling in love in your lifetime movies. But would you hear about Hallmark lately?
Starting point is 01:54:59 The Hallmark movie, too, yeah. What happened? The former casting agent at the Hallmark Channel is being sued because they told the Hallmark Channel, the Hallmark Channel told this casting agent, stop hiring old people to be in their movies. The old people, Holly Robinson Pete, who's now 60 years of old. And Lacey Schobert, who used to be on Party of Five, she's 42, and they said looking for some young talent. Okay. And how is the Thomas Household handling this news?
Starting point is 01:55:29 I despise the Hallmark Channel. Matt? No, I like Lifetime movies. Okay, it's Life Time. They're much more salacious. Hallmark, they always end pleasant, and I don't like pleasant endings. So it's not Tomato, there's a difference? Oh, there is.
Starting point is 01:55:42 Okay. Lifetime movie? You all know. Y'all ladies listen to the show, no. There's a difference between the lifetime in the Hallmark. I have no idea. Don't watch you to want them. No, I don't. That's just me.
Starting point is 01:55:53 All right. Conn McGoverns. He's got the story in the night. Twice spoiled story for Matt Thomas. No, it's twice teased. What's your favorite type of pizza, guys? Pepperney and mushroom. I'm going to go with a classic Supreme, a little bit of everything.
Starting point is 01:56:09 Have you ever had your favorite pizza and thought, hmm, you know what would go well with this? Some cocaine? No. No. Well, if you would have answered yes, then this German pizzerie would have been the place for you. German police busted a pizzerie in the western city of Dusseldorf that also delivered a side order of cocaine when customers asked for the item number 40 on the menu. Ah, so that was like the code word? Yep. Yeah, can I get a side of number 40 on that?
Starting point is 01:56:32 Yeah. Okay. Interesting. Quote, that was one of the best selling pizzas, a German criminal director told reporters, police was first tipped off by suspicious food inspectors in March when drug squad officers began. observing the restaurant, they soon discovered why pizza number 40 was so popular. When police buzzed the apartment of the pizzeria manager, the 36-year-old allegedly threw a bag of drugs out the window, which, quote, fell right into the arms of police officers. The bounty included three and a half pounds of cocaine, 14 ounces of cannabis, and almost
Starting point is 01:57:02 $300,000 in cash. Wow. The restaurant manager, who was released from detention just a few days after, soon reopened his business and started selling pizza number 40 with a side of cocaine again. We had to make his cash back to make it. bail. That gave investigators an opportunity to look into the supply chain and after several weeks, some 150 officers busted an entire drug ring in Western Germany, arrested three suspects, including the 22-year-old head of drug the operation, and raided homes and businesses of another 12 suspects.
Starting point is 01:57:30 The pizza manager was arrested when he tried to flee abroad and remains in custody. And before you ask, police did not say how much the pizzeria charged for the special number four. I was wondering. And do, if you don't get it delivered in your house and then 30 minutes, is it free? Remember that scam that Romano's used to have? Why was it a scam? Because those drivers were getting in car action that's getting there in time in 30 minutes. Yeah, that was a bad idea.
Starting point is 01:57:56 It was a really bad idea from Romano's. Romanoes and their mediocre pizza. Good crust, everything else is purely average. Not a fan. I'd rather have Rizza Hut. And honestly, they have reinvested in their ingredients. I'd rather go with middle mezers. No.
Starting point is 01:58:12 No, no, no. I'm dead serious. I know. Mazy bread is good, but that's it. No, I'm serious. I got tricked into trying their new, it's actually better. It seems like they reinvested in their product. It used to be terrible and tastes like cardboard.
Starting point is 01:58:27 It's actually better. Trust. I'm good. Okay. Just saying. All right. Somebody was asking about Taylor off air and I did check her Twitter account. It's still closed and a protected post.
Starting point is 01:58:40 You didn't follow her on your burner so you can't go check the tweets there? Does this wave busters follow her? No. What is she saying? She's saying nothing at this point. Well, she's got to be tweeting something under these protected tweets. Yeah, but I'm not going to ask to follow. She pleading her case?
Starting point is 01:58:52 Yeah, why don't you request a follow? What's the problem? Figure she should get on the show? No. She gets enough pub on this show, free bub. We can get a video chat going. 246. Let's play Hell yeah or not.
