Lunch timers.
This is the Matt Thomas show.
1202 at H-town.
Damn, 1202.
I don't think we hit our breaks on time here on this station.
Good afternoon, everybody, and what's happening, lunch timers?
It's a Monday edition of the Matt Thomas show.
With Ross, this is Sports Talk 790.
Cross the field.
Here's love.
To the end zone.
Diving catch!
What a catch it is by Kraft.
For the score.
Here it is, Mixon.
Round the end and end for the touchdown.
Took two plays to bring it home.
They get the play in the books now.
They don't challenge it in time.
They go long.
They go long.
They get the completion near the one-yard line.
Touchdown.
Dantavian Wicks.
We've got the 4D line here.
Collapse the edges and force it back inside.
There's Mixon.
Mixon.
Mikes his way to the end zone.
And another Houston.
touchdown. It's a great adjustment.
Second and goal from eight
yards out.
Right back to Jacobs.
No one there for him this time.
Touchdown, Green Bay.
His first ever
touchdown reception.
The veteran just came here on Wednesday.
He's got this to win it.
Low snap. The kid.
The Texans almost gave Jordan a love a bad name.
He said he gave him a good name.
They gave him a good name.
The late fourth quarter drive.
And by the way, props to the holder for the Packers, the low snap, gathered it, flew it, banged it through.
And the Texans fall.
And the Texans fall.
Not a terrible loss.
Not a terrible loss.
When they would have.
But I mean, in the categories of losses, I think 37 to zero is a bad loss.
I think the Vikings loss was a bad loss.
Well, they didn't get their ass kicked, but they weren't going to do that.
Or it shouldn't have happened or wouldn't have happened or couldn't have happened and it didn't happen.
You got a lot of layers there.
So, yeah, Battle Red's in a tough spot today.
He's his beloved team and you don't have a YouTube page because you actually have a successful radio career.
I mean, I should actually start up a YouTube page.
And what would it be called?
Battle Red Ross's Battle Red blog.
Vlog?
Okay.
I would subscribe.
You would?
Absolutely.
Thank you.
I always listen to podcasts.
I fall asleep. I figure you listen to you for a few minutes, maybe fall asleep. Put your right to bed.
It would be. Great. For sure. All right. I hope you guys are in a good mood today.
We have a very, I mean, very busy show in terms of meaty topics. Your beloved Texans
fall to the Green Bay Packers. Close game. Game that could have easily gone the Texans way,
if not for a couple of key things. An overall horrific play on the offensive line.
C.J. Stroud, a little more human this week. But,
How much is that on him not making the right decisions or him having absolutely no time to throw the football for a better part of three hours?
Running for his life for four quarters.
Isn't it crazy how the offensive line can be commended for its offensive?
Now, granted, some of that is Joe Mixing cutbacks.
I mean, that guy cuts left, zigs, goes zigs left and zags right.
I mean, as good as anybody.
It's like Aaron Foster good.
He's got great vision.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
And explosiveness.
And he is a very, very key.
They're not going anywhere in the playoffs of Joe Mixon.
hurt. I'll say that. The drop off from him to
Pierce is going from like
Akeem Elijah Juan to
Chuck Nevitt. Oh, it's not that bad.
Damien Pierce, Chuck Nevitt?
He had like a 50-yard run last week.
And by any of you know how the Chuck Nevit is, that's a
great pull by me and a
good job. I'm much appreciated by you if you remember who that is.
Serge Swicker, would that be a little more of a closer
reference?
I'm trying to think of a
a backup center that was actually decent for the rocket.
DeKembe Matumbo as a rocket.
Okay, very good.
Now, that's the leg DeKembe needs better run than that.
He's better than Damien Pierce.
All right.
Damien Pierce has a 900-yard season under his belt.
Yeah, but that was a long time ago.
Two years ago.
That was the last time you got your haircut.
He had a good season.
No, that was like, well, it's been like seven years since I got my haircut at this point.
Damn.
I'm over bougie when it comes to getting my face shaved up and my haircut.
What does that mean?
That I go have a haircut.
I have it shave.
I go get it done at a barbershop.
Oh, really?
I don't do it myself.
Okay.
And you don't get it at all.
So it's like, no, I get trimmed.
Okay, and look like it.
But that's fine.
I'm sure it's great.
Yeah.
Who does it trimming?
It's wherever I go.
I mean, I don't care.
And they're like, how much you want off?
You say, no, no, just a little snip, little snip there.
Yeah, just take a few inches.
You've been taking a lot of inches, apparently.
I just go in there and I ask her to take a few inches.
Yeah.
Okay.
All right.
Here's how the program works.
We are largely open line today.
because we've got a lot of folks that want to give their two cents worth.
Isn't it crazy how Bobby Slood goes from,
we're going to be lucky to keep them around one year
because the offense was so magical to let's fire Bobby Sloan.
It is the lowest of lowest hanging fruit.
I'm serious in sports.
Is the firing of coaches and or assistance?
It happens all the time with us talking Astros.
It doesn't happen in the NBA because you largely don't know who NBA assistant coaches are.
But it happens all the time in base.
whoever the hitting coaches, and you always mispronounce their name or don't know who they are,
whoever the pitching coach has got to fire them, or you've got to fire the manager,
and then you've got to sit here, you know, now Bobby Sloak should be looking for work today,
according to some Texans fans.
What does the main beef with Bobby Sloak this time?
Oh, just Uber conservative play calling, didn't make the plays late in the game,
kind of questionable.
That last ride where they got the field goal was kind of ill-called.
It was wimpy, but I mean, was that his call?
was he told to run it was we don't know at this point because because if you listen to uh what's Cj's full name
a Coleridge Bernard Straub the fourth that guy he says they were going for the field goal meanwhile
D'emico said after the game going for the win they didn't seem like they were going for the win
and we'll get a further callification he's going to meet with the media Domingo is at 2 30 today we'll have some of that for you here if those were his play calls if that was
if Bobby sloak had full autonomy there and then they decided to run on first and second down yeah that
week. That was in the moment
I was saying, you're playing for
a field goal when they're going to have,
it's the NFL. If they have almost
two minutes left in time just
to get a field goal, and by the
way, when you're down and your backer against the wall,
you get the fourth down every time. You get
four downs to get a
first down every single time and they're going to have
at least one time out and only
need a field goal. I thought they were going to lose that game.
I thought they should have gone for the touchdown. They should have gone
for six. I would have liked to see play action
on first down. Let me ask you this, though. And I
I don't disagree with you, but to play devil's advocate, if you are in field goal range,
yes.
And let's say all of a sudden you go to the play action or you just throw on first down incomplete,
stops the clock.
Yes.
Second down, stops the clock.
Yes.
Third down, then you would then probably run the football to at least Green Bay to burn a timeout.
You're still giving Green Bay probably about a minute 45 with two timeouts remaining.
Right.
And that's what they had with one timeout.
So it's the same result
It's the same result because you only took eight seconds off of that clock
If you run run they only took eight seconds off in those two runs
So you're not taking any time off the clock because they have their full couple of timeout
If they had two or one time out I'm on board with it
They had all three of them
Yeah because the step back drop back
Probably would have taken as much time
Then just hand the ball to Joe Mixin and having those two negative yard plays
So yeah
It's the exact same result.
I knew when they were settling for the field goal, it wasn't going to be enough because the game was in Green Bay.
Love's had a lot of fourth quarter drives.
He's got a big arm.
Texan secondary had been pretty badly bruised up except for the interceptions, which, again, I think we're really poor.
Jordan Love can make some poor throws.
He can really try.
I don't know if it's athleticism or he thinks he can, he's got that Brett Farr, I've got the fastest fastball.
Yeah.
Yeah, that guy, Doug Russell that we had last.
week. Sometimes he'll show a little Brett Farr.
Little gunslinger, yeah. Look at that. We heard the highlight of
that Tucker Kraft touchdown
that he made. That was
inches away from being
picked or being tipped up into the
air, but it was a perfect
throw and it went into Tucker Kraft's
hand who made a fantastic catch.
And then, yeah, he makes
the high risk, high reward throws.
Yep. All right. So,
here's what we got going today. We've got
Texans, Patriots, breaking it down like a
mutter. Also,
your hooligans in Austin couldn't behave themselves after getting their ass to be.
My hooligans.
Yeah, you can't be selective longer.
I'm not in the student section.
But there were adults doing it too, I'm sure.
Had to have been.
Too many thousands of water bottles were out there for it worked.
It did work.
It was really the right call was made.
It was absolutely not a pass interference.
But the shenanigans cost the University of Texas, I don't know, one recruit.
did it?
Half recruit?
I don't think so.
We'll explain that coming up.
Yankees Dodgers, I've got a poll question out about who you're rooting for.
Let's go Yankees or let's go Dodgers.
No.
A lot of animosity towards either selection.
The WNBA Ross ends its championship season last night with a game five.
And I didn't watch any of it because most American didn't watch any of it.
I watched actually the fourth quarter and overtime.
All right.
And there was a horrific call made.
First of all, there were two horrific calls that basically
the coach of the Mercury, the Lynx basically called out the referees.
I don't think in my entire life, Ross, I've seen a final game of anything where the officiating was just, they were throwing every official onto the bus.
That's what we're doing sports.
That's how the W&B. We know the WNBA has arrived.
Yeah. And then we have booing to Sean Watson.
Okay.
And your take on that, whether it was good, bad, or indifferent.
Now there's a video circling which I believe is
erroneous, correct.
It's fake.
But there was some booing.
Okay.
And James Winston of all people
went to a Cleveland news reporter
and just spoke her little,
his soul out on how bad that Deshaun was being treated.
He defended the predator.
Yeah.
So we got a lot to get to.
A lot to get to.
713-212-5-790.
7-1-2-5-790.
Your Texans are 5-2
could very easily be 6-1
but I thought, and Ross agreed with me,
played it a little too, not a little too,
significantly more conservative than they should have,
and were inconsistent on the final play from center.
You run twice, you might as well run a third time.
If you pass twice, then run a third time.
It was an ill-timed drive
just to get the three points you had basically
when you got as close as you did.
7-13-21-2-5-7-90.
1713-212-5-790. Word right now for Big City Wings. Congratulations to Sam and his crew at Big City Wings.
A 13th location is a 13 or 14. I always lose track because they're so damn popular.
Kingsland Boulevard out in the Cady area. I mean, they are just taking over the wing industry.
So if you are looking to find a great place, whether it be in the, if you live north, east, south, or west to enjoy wings, it's $1 chicken tenders today at any of
the, I believe me now, 14 big city wing locations. That's how popular they have become. And what I want
to introduce, I want you to please do me a favor and enjoy those $1 chicken tenders. You enjoy those
big brews as well. You will enjoy everything that is the experience of big city wings. In fact,
that Big City Wings is located now on Kingsland Boulevard. Big on wings, big on sports, big on $1 chicken tenders. It's
big citywings.com.
More Matt Thomas. Now.
on Sports Talk 790.
We have not allowed Ross to have a water bottle in the studio today for obvious reasons.
I don't want I'm throwing it at me.
Why would I throw it at you?
Are you making bad calls?
Texas fans apparently just are babies and want to throw bottles on field and can find $250,000,
which will cost you a half a recruit, maybe a quarter recruit.
How does it cost a half a recruit?
What are you talking about?
Well, I mean, that's money that could have gone towards a recruit.
Oh, I get you.
That's where the joke is coming from.
I don't think it's going to affect recruiting much.
It's not. It's not.
I still think your team's playing for the championship.
I ain't scared.
First of all, the moment when they were throwing all those water bottles on the field,
that was embarrassing and poor behavior and just unbecoming of what you expect of the Texas Longhorns fan base.
We totally expected.
Yeah.
No, it's not.
When does it happen before?
I don't remember.
Point out when it happened before in the last hundred years.
If you said it's totally expected.
No, no, because there, it's, Texas fan isn't totally entitled.
It doesn't.
listen to authority.
It, uh, these are like 18, 19 year old drunken kid.
Well, I don't know. Kids aren't drinking these days, right?
No, they're not.
They're vaping, though.
Whatever they're doing.
They're big time vaping.
Okay.
Well, they're vaped out of their minds then.
Yeah. Whatever they're doing.
Yeah.
It was totally, uh, boorish.
Burrish and un-dish disrespectful.
I love the term burrish.
It was, yeah, it was poor behavior.
It was embarrassing.
And I was embarrassed.
And apparently, and I don't follow this account, but Barstool Longhorns,
which I didn't really.
Every school has a long horns.
Even schools nobody cares about, like the cougars.
People care about the cougars.
We played it, we played a 230 on Saturday.
How'd it go?
Not well.
Although Eric had was nice.
Yeah?
You in 9,300 of your family, closest friends?
You asked it earlier. You're such a fraud.
You said, what was a legit?
Christ, there was legitimately 25,000 people.
Not on what they announced, but it was legit 25,000.
Okay.
Now, I really want to go there for a chief scheme, though,
because it was just not the same.
energy of there was plenty of empty seats so it wasn't like it was so you could have had sections
to yourself i'm sure yeah which i always i spent the fourth quarter because i was bored looking around
going why are these two people sitting bored in the fourth quarter because we're going to ask you score
we lost 42 to 14 are you okay Connor i don't need that from you that's great how missouri this
weekend hey they won they beat oburn yes they did i was watching that game i was i texted connor
after Mazoo took the lead.
I didn't want to text them before.
Yeah. By the way, did you get a text from me at all this weekend? Nope.
Thankfully.
Yeah.
I'll be respectful.
Yeah, Texas lost.
They didn't play well.
They got punched in the mouth of the beginning and they stabilized,
but it was a little too, little too late.
Yeah.
And Auburn's defense.
Not Auburn, Georgia's defense.
Number 11 and number 13.
I know who those guys are,
but I feel like I should probably get to know them a little bit better because those are monsters.
I don't want to talk about it.
You're off.
Yeah.
Who had a worse offensive line?
The Texans or are they Texas Longhorns this weekend?
Or equally as bad.
Yeah. I was watching a lot of high pressure rate this weekend when I was watching football.
Yeah. So you didn't go. Are you, you feel better that you didn't go or do you still, I wish you would have been there?
I feel a little bit better, but still the atmosphere would have been great. I would not have thrown water bottles onto the field. And that was, I mean, that was just, that was embarrassing.
Well, you know. It was an embarrassing moment of the program. It really was.
In defense. There is no defense.
Well, I mean, my point, I'm saying defense, that Texas, like other schools have done that. I mean, Texas Texas lived on throwing,
tortillas on the field for years.
Right. People throw stuff on the field all the time. But you're supposed to be better than
those ingrates from Lubbock.
And they were no better than them on Saturday. That was embarrassing.
Yep. That's it. I was, I was a sad sight for me.
It is what it is.
But, um, I'm blaming the kids. You know, this generation of kids.
I know I'm trying to raise three.
Well, you know what? I'm blaming the parents of this generation. Yeah, blame me. So I'm
blaming you. You know what? I'll take the old man. You and your brethren, raising all these kids
the wrong way.
They're soft.
They're angry.
They're throwing water bottles on in the field.
They're not drinking.
Yeah.
Also, they're not socializing.
No, they're staring their phones.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
713, 2, 112.
5-790.
So the squad is at 5 and 2.
Do you say 5 and 2?
Like, you know what?
That, if you're on-paced guy,
that puts you at 10 and 4.
That puts you at about 11 and 5,
actually maybe 12 and 5.
you're probably going to be maybe the two-seat or the three-seat
at very worst in the EFC playoffs.
You have at least one home playoff game.
You could say that on pace,
but also this was supposed to be the easier part of the schedule,
and it was the easier part of the schedule.
Right.
And by the way, the Colts are now a game back of you in the AFC South.
But I watch a lot of that Miami-Indon-Apples game.
Anthony Richardson is...
They just can't score.
He's bad.
He's a bad quarterback.
I forget who it was that said Anthony Richardson was over-hite before the season.
But they were right.
Who was over-hithe?
Whoever it was.
Was it you?
It was me.
Oh, okay.
Anthony Richardson is over hot.
I just wasn't seeing it.
I wasn't buying it.
I fell into the athleticism.
I fell into the week two game he had against the Texans in Houston last year.
He was good in week one against the Texas.
It was really good in week one.
For a couple plays.
But he's largely inaccurate.
And every time he runs, Ross, I was watching on Red Zone yesterday.
He doesn't ever go out of bounds.
He doesn't slide.
He likes to take trucking people.
I am 6.3, 240.
I can beat any cornerback.
Well, that's not smart.
because sometimes your head hits the turf and you want
up getting concussed or hurting his shoulder.
On the season as a passer,
48 and a half completion percentage,
three touchdown, six picks.
Yeah, not accurate at all. Let's talk to Scott
in River Oaks at 1226 on 790.
Scott, good afternoon. Thank you for holding.
Matt Ross, good to talk to you guys.
So, you know, when you ask
the question, you know,
was a tough loss yesterday, yeah, we're five and two.
It was played a good Packers team.
did we, you know, it's not a loss that we should hang our heads about on paper.
But having watched us all season, you know, I think we are pretty clearly in tier two of the NFL right now.
I mean, if we had to face the Chiefs or the Ravens in the playoffs, you can't have a deficiency on your team like we do with this offensive line.
I mean, the Packers weren't doing anything special yesterday.
There wasn't a player on their defensive line.
What I said, wow, that guy looked like Aidan Hutchinson out there.
I mean, we were just missing blocks, and I don't know how you fix it.
So, yes, we're 5 and 2.
I still think we're going to beat all the bad teams.
Our schedule does get a lot tougher.
But, you know, as unfortunate it is to say, the part that, you know, I look down on is I think we're going to end up.
I mean, this team feels capped second round of the playoffs.
Again, unfortunately, the way we stand right now.
Yeah, that's how I saw it from the jump.
And I don't think, thank you, Scott, for the phone call.
there was nothing in the first seven weeks.
Maybe the Buffalo victory that may just say,
you know what?
The Texans can go win at Baltimore.
The Texans can go win at Kansas City.
Their biggest wins this year have been at home.
And again, there's still more than a half a season left.
So we didn't necessarily we need to finish out this conversation about where they're going to end up.
But, Rossi, how much of you watch of Kansas City, San Francisco this past week yesterday?
I'm glad you brought that up because Steve Spagnolo, the defensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs,
is known for exactly what has been crushing the Texans issue.
It is disguising coverages, bringing guys from all angles, late movement, crazy, like, Mad Hatter type of stuff.
Sneaky secondary guys grabbing interceptions out of nowhere.
Science stuff in Brian Flores is known for that, and how did the Texans do against the Vikings and Brian Flores?
How did the Texans do this weekend against the Packers?
So they need to figure this out because if you're facing that chief's defense in a potential divisional or championship game,
I have zero confidence that the Texans are going to be able to move the ball and pass the ball against that type of offense
because of these protection issues that they're having.
They need to get short up.
You won the turnover battle 3-0 this last week.
And you needed, I mean, they just needed miracle after miracle I felt like.
I felt like they got really outplayed in this game.
more than the final score indicates.
Yeah, it's, how do you win the 30 turnover war and still lose the game?
That's pretty hard to do.

Ross and I are both battling a little bit of cold and cold and,
sinus issues right
did I get you sick?
No I'm not blaming me if you did
No you didn't we didn't make out or anything now
All right
Paul I'm trying to keep my distance
Keep doing anything if you're healthy
Okay
Keep me far away from you
Uh
Paul question is up today Ross
At Sports 790 on the Matt Thomas
Twitter account at SportsMT
Where I'm thriving at 32,000
Wow
Great job
I put you
I did this five hours ago
So I put a few tweets
Since then
just grate your teeth and say
let's go Dodgers
let's go Yankees
so far 500 votes are in
we're still 18 hours left to vote
a lot of people are not voting because I just can't do it
and I respect that okay
but of those that voted
let's go Dodgers at 54%
let's go Yankees at 46%.
That's where I go
I can easily make myself root for Shohei Otani
than I can for Aaron Judge
showytony is one of the greatest shows on earth
if not number one in sports
regardless of sport
when he's pitching especially
but even as a hitter he
strikes the fear he had a 50 50
season
I mean come on
he's insane
and he's done it with a bad wing
think about that
yeah
so easier for me
now mooky bets I mean come on
I love how he's
he was on the 17
Red Sox that cheated the 18 Red Sox
that cheat it, and he doesn't get booed
at 1% as much
as Jose Al-Tuvae does.
Jose has worn it longer than anybody else.
A, he's even worn
it longer than Bregman, and Bregman basically said,
yeah, I did it, I mean.
But anyways,
I don't, I just gotta root for individuals.
I'm rude for show you atop.
Game one of the World Series is Friday.
Okay.
And again, if you want to vote, it's at SportsMTMT on my Twitter account
right now, 5446 in favor of the Los Angeles.
Let's go Dodgers over.
Let's go Yankees.
All right.
Terrible.
I mean, I'll be honest with you.
Friday, they may get a little bit of me, but Saturday's college football.
I have a Rockett Spurs game in San Antonio.
I'll keep an eye on it.
Sunday is NFL for us.
Yeah, I'm not getting invested.
Actually, they're off.
I think they're off on Sunday.
Last year, I just literally could not watch it.
I could not watch the Rangers win the World Series.
Oh, no.
I can't remember one thing except them winning it in the parade of 44 people next to
around a Walmart.
Terrible.
Neither team makes the playoffs the following year.
That just doesn't happen very often in sports.
Fluke.
All right, 713-212-5-790.
7-1-2-1-2-5-7-90.
So the offensive line is a mess.
And I don't know how all of a sudden it gets better.
Do you keep a tight end in all times to help block?
That means basically Dalton Schultz, you lose the wide receiver.
What the hell has happened to tank?
Dale, is Tank a forgotten man in this offense this year?
He has done nothing eventful.
He was getting open a ton last week,
and he got nine targets, I think, was it, nine targets,
seven catches, I think the week before.
I don't know how many targets did he get this game.
I know he didn't have any catches.
I can look it up right now.
Yeah.
So I think at the end of the day,
they only threw the ball 20 times.
They were getting crushed in the offensive line,
and C.J. Stroud only threw for 86 yards.
I mean, nobody was doing much of anything.
Yeah, Tank was targeted four times yesterday.
Stefan Diggs 5 for 23.
By the way, how about Stefan Diggs doing a little,
I'm going to fight with every Green Bay Packer before kickoff yesterday?
I liked his quote.
His quote was,
I'm never going to be the bigger man.
Oh, Stephen Diggs.
Look, I'm not a huge Define Diggs fan,
but I can appreciate him saying that because at least he's comfortable in his own skin.
He's consistent as well.
I'm never going to be the bigger person.
It's like Dylan Brooks.
I don't think Dylan Brooks is a rocket.
Everyone says, you know what,
I'll try to maintain a little calmness on the court.
They want a blank start.
I love the quote from Stefan Diggs.
I don't give a bleep.
If I'm by myself or with a million,
I'm never the bigger person.
I ain't let Bleep go.
It was very chippy for a team that sees each other every, what, six years or something like that?
They picked it up or whatever, but I ain't with the football tough guy bleep.
Uh-huh.
Love Diggs.
Yeah.
He's, he clearly carries some respect in that locker room,
but it just didn't translate it.
The whole field.
I mean, CJ was pedestrian.
Everything offensively was bad.
Yeah.
Except for Joe Mixon.
Yeah.
And they took advantage of Joe Mixed have a great game.
They took advantage of short fields on the turnovers.
The punt.
The muffed pun.
Not the muff, but it was the guy that touched.
Yeah. It was, I mean, that was,
that's giving you seven points.
That is a gift of seven points.
And that's why I think the final, like I said, last segment.
The final score does not reflect how badly they gotten beaten here.
Yeah.
Jordan Love made some mistakes.
He could have made some more.
Jordan Love is going to make some mistakes.
You got a gift of seven points from that muff punt.
And that's another reason why it was disappointing that they played so conservatively in that last drive.
You got a gift.
You're on the road.
You're in Green Bay.
Go for the win in a big way to where you can get that seven and really put the pressure on Green Bay.
At least try to.
You don't have anything to lose.
I mean, you could turn the ball over, I guess.
No.
But they just play too slow.
You could sack, you can get intercepted.
But the problem is that CJ doesn't turn the ball over that much.
No.
Even if he gets sacked once or not twice,
Kami's hitting 50-yard field goals like they're chip shots.
I think, yeah.
I think play action on first down there is the perfect scenario
where everybody's going to be playing the run.
Yeah.
Let Dalton Schultz got out.
The problem is, again, you, I think,
my thought is that Sloick knew his offensive line
had showed no signs of seriously.
giving CJ enough time
to throw the football.
Yeah, and they just need to get better at
you ask how they get better.
Well, they're just not going to be with personnel.
You're going to trade for anybody in the middle of the season.
Well, you could, you have a trade deadline.
You could, but it's not going to, I don't think it's going to happen.
They just have to get better at communicating
and figuring out who has who.
It's just very simple football stuff.
And I don't think it's one particular player.
I think the entire offensive line has to wear it.
Yes.
From guys slipping to guys, you know,
know, not protecting their one guy.
And it wasn't like they were...
Titus Howard just falling on the ground.
He did that last week, too.
And then did he curl up in the field position after that?
Or like, oh, I must be hurt.
No, I'm actually...
He put his thumb in his mouth.
I thought that was weird.
It's a lot, and here's the thing, Rossi.
There's a lot of money and a lot of draft picks on an offensive line.
Yes.
It's not like some hodgepies, a group of guys put together.
It was supposed to be a huge strength.
And so far, depending on what offensive line rankings you look around the league,
they're generally middle of the pack.
Yeah.
All right, let's go to...
CJ, not C.J.
Strow, but just regular C.J. at 790
at 1241. Hi, C.J.
Well, so, yeah, I look like
C.J. Stroud looked like me Sunday, man.
It looked like regular C.J. That's crazy.
Actually, so with that, okay, we all
have basically discussed
the offensive line, the
play call, and I do think,
I like the point you brought up about
Sloat, probably knowing his offensive line, but I still
think, you know, he can do better.
With that said, I think we as
fans, and I'm speaking for myself
as well, because
of how unexpectedly
good they were last year,
I think we just automatically
put them in the Super Bowl
contention without the growing
fans. Like, it's a new coach,
very first time head coach, and we
talked about, we've mentioned a lot of
coaching blips
throughout this season, and some
last. We've tried,
we've asked questions about, like, you know,
what's going on at practice? Why
isn't the offensive line improving the blah, blah,
but I think we got a really good team,
but maybe as fans,
do you think that we possibly might have jumped the gun
with our expectations because of how good they were last year,
and I hang up and listen.
Thank you, CJ.
I completely agree that the city of Houston collectively jumped the gun.
But it's not abnormal behavior.
No, but it's funny how the fan base turns spoiled in one year.
But I totally agree with what CJ said.
If they had lost a couple more of those one-score games last year,
and they would have finished eight and nine and missed the playoffs,
and then you're sitting here now at five and two,
I think we are taking it a little bit better.
I think we did let the hype train run a little bit too fast with the last year.
And maybe there is some element to that.
There is, but it's not abnormal activity.
Because what you've done is you've taken a quarterback,
and he is a star.
you had Tank Dell had a breakout year.
Nico Collins had a breakout year.
You had a good running game in Singletary.
And then you replaced him with a better guy in Mixing.
Will Anderson was your defensive rookie of the year.
I mean, if I was a Texans fan, I would have done the exact same thing.
I don't know how you temper it.
I don't know how you go, well, that was fun, but I don't expect this to be nearly as good.
You got better.
You're supposed to be better.
And right now, the path to me,
was you're not going to win every one of the close games like you did last year.
And you still have to do some things that are going to put you in the same category as Kansas City and Baltimore.
And they just can't do it.
They're just not capable.
There's not enough talent to be in the Kansas City Baltimore range right now.
They're getting better.
But it's still, to get near the top, it still is going to take a lot of work.
It's probably going to take some more pass rushing.
It's probably going to figure out whether or not.
who the true second cornerback is.
And the last one was hurting.
And again, there was a lot of defensive starters that were hurt yesterday.
But Rossi, that happens with every team.
Everybody's got injuries.
That's the reason why I'm quitting fantasy football.
Come on, Matt.
And we will discuss why I'm doing that when we come back.
You can't quit.
I'm quitting.
You started the league.
Yeah.
And I'm ending the league.
You've already seated commissioners control to me.
You made me do it.
Yep.
I've got to chase down all these dead beats for their money every year.
Yep.
And now you're going to just go ahead and,
up and leave the league? Correct. Disappointing. I'll explain why it's I'll run through my numbers and you'll
say, I know why you're quitting. 713-212-5-790. Very proud to speak for Martin Spoonmore and his folks at

Texans on three. One, two, three.
Back to Battle Red Ross and Liberty white-ass Matt Thomas.
What up? What up?
That's what I am.
Real pale Texans talk continues on the Matt Thomas show.
What up? What up?
All right, I'm going to sit the next half hour up for you. We'll get back to the Texans at 1 o'clock.
120, we're going to go to Cleveland
to hear some comments about Deshawn Watson's Achilles' injury
and how the reaction around the sports world is very mixed about this.
I would say it's like 90-10 one way.
Well, I guess you said, 90-10 among fans, among players,
it's much more skewed towards how do you do this.
And so we're going to let you hear a little comment that's a little hyperbole.
Hyperbolic?
Yeah.
Who's hyper?
You'll find out coming up at 120.
Okay.
We have to tell the truth at 130 today.
We will?
Yeah.
Wonderful.
And I'm definitely afraid of doing this segment every week because no matter what take I have, you think it's the worst take ever.
Well, let's run through the list.
You said the takes that I have said bad that come off the top of my head was you saying,
you say Kikuchi is never going to throw seven innings and he did his next start.
And then you're saying that the Astros were going to sweep whoever they play in the wild card and they got swept.
No, I said that it was going to be asleep.
No, no, no.
No, no, no, no, no.
I don't know.
So, yeah, if you're going to be making bad takes, I do get confused, Matt.
Well, my outstanding takes are much more abundant in the occasional off take.
All right, so I'm going to make this declaration for you, and I'm sure there's others in the group, too.
Okay.
Their injuries have been a problem in the NFL this year.
Oh, my gosh, rampant everywhere.
I just had Brandon I. You just tore his ACL.
The off weeks also don't help.
So you have to go deep to your bench.
You have to go deep to free agency.
You got to get the deep in the waiver wire weeds.
All right.
So I do that every week.
I'm starting Kareem Hunt.
He was out of the league three weeks ago.
So the Houston Toros lost to Team the Bad Boy.
And Team the Bad Boy has three players going tonight, and I'm already down 70 to 61.
I have no players left.
Oh.
So he needs to get, by those three players, need to get a collective negative 10 points.
Yes, which by ESPNs gives I've got a 1% chance.
I believe it's a lie.
I think it's closer to zero.
I think it's closer to zero.
So let me just tell you the reason why I'm quitting.
This is my third straight loss.
Brock Purdy, 17 points.
That's okay.
That's good.
It's fine.
Alvin Kamara.
5.5.4.
He's been great for you all year.
Alvin Kamara, five points.
He's been great.
Next.
Daronis Johnson, the Jacksonville.
Darius Johnson, who's that?
I don't either.
He actually did well for me.
give me 8.5. That's good for you.
Here we go, you poor baby.
Tyreek
Freaking Hill. Shut your bum ass up.
Tyreek Hill,
one catch, eight yards.
Cortland Sutton,
Denver Broncos,
zero catches,
zero yards.
Kyle Pitts,
Atlanta Falcons.
Got me 10 points. I was okay with that.
Devante Smith,
Philadelphia Eagles.
One catch for minus two yards.
I got point three from my flex.
The Philly defense gave me 15 points.
I beat the Giants yesterday, 28 to 3.
And Evan McPherson, a good Irishman.
Three extra points yesterday.
Catch a three?
All that together, 61 points.
I am out, done, gonzo.
My fantasy football career is over.
Is this how you're going to do this, Matt?
Yes.
You're going to quit?
Yes.
Just because of a couple of injuries?
Couple.
Why don't you pull yourself up by your bootstraps?
Make some waiver wire pickups and get back in there and play.
I got healthy players.
Everybody's dealing with injuries.
I got healthy players scoring me zero points.
Everybody's got to hurt players.
Screw you NFL.
Come on.
Screw you fantasy football.
I'm over and out.
It's been a good ride.
But this Biach is out.
this is pretty funny
I think Cortons and Sutton
get your squadoosh
Squadoosh
Tadourin kill
he's got Tua Tung of Aloha coming back
You're going to be fine he's okay
Tula's Tate of Okavola doesn't know his name
Alvin Camaro's going to bounce back
He's got a full week off
He's been great all season
And Derek Carr's been out
He's going to be okay
Corlin Sutton still has Bo Nick
so I don't know about that
Kyle Pitch got you 10
Devonte Smith had an off week
He'll be back
Now I'm not quitting this season
You're a cry, baby.
But this is it after this.
I am retiring.
Come on, Matt.
Nope.
This league is so hard to fill.
Nope.
No chance.
If somebody wants my spot.
You made the fees astronomically high and everybody I talked to, they're like, how much?
I'm out of here.
Yeah, I know.
Because you're fancy Matt making fancy dollars.
Yes, true.
And now your problems you created, you handed off to me as a commissioner.
Guess what?
Things can be, like stocks.
They can move down.
Like, making a more affordable league.
What can't others in?
You can't leave the league being a zero time champion?
Watch me.
That'd be embarrassing.
I'm not, I've got to win one, man.
I'm very comfortable with my skin.
Not with this squad, I'm not winning one.
I'm about to go two and five.
I hit the waivers, baby.
Let's go.
I hit the waivers every damn week.
Ross, my decision's been made.
You're going to bounce back.
I can feel it.
I can feel my bones.
You can feel all you want in your bones.
It ain't happened.
We need you in the league, Matt.
You ain't getting me.
You're getting me for the next eight weeks.
I mean, it's tough keeping you in the league because you're so good and you draft so well and hit the waiver so well.
But we need.
You can play all the music you want to.
You can play sound effects.
You can call me names.
Fine.
I am done when the season is over.
Everybody's got injuries.
This has been a tough year.
I'm in five leagues.
I've making 75 waiver pickups every freaking week.
It's terrible.
Now, we love our Dr. Roto.
We do.
He'll still be on every week for this.
See, you're also going to hurt that bit.
Because part of the fun of the Dr. Roto segment is him having you resuscitate your team.
Well, look at how he's done so far for me.
Actually, I'm not asked for any invite.
Maybe you know what I do.
This week's Dr. Roto, I will ask for 10 minutes of just me and a half.
Just you.
I like it
It's terrible
So awful
And I put that on my Twitter castry
People are like yeah
I'm insane with you
I'm just
It's no more enjoy
It's been a frustrating year
The injuries have been
Insane this year
Insane
But it hasn't affected ratings
People still watch
Yeah
I still watched hours of red zone
Even though yesterday
The 3 o'clock games
There were only three games
At 3 o'clock
I mean Cooper Cups been out all year
Pooka Nakua
Brandon Ayuk just tore his ACL
you've had, I mean, Tua got hurt, so that's been Waddell and Tyreek Hill haven't been doing anything.
I mean, you look at every, like the top of every draft.
Christian McCaffrey has been out for since week one.
Michael Pittman, I had to bench because I don't trust the quarterback of the Colts.
Well, yeah, answer.
I benched him 7.8 on that.
Real, whoopty freaking do.
Get to the end zone, bra.
Seriously.
Let's see.
Zach Moss.
Zach Moss, 5.5.
He rushed for seven yards.
Dalton Schultz, 3.4.
point three points. He had one catch on the whole
damn day for 28 yards.
C.D. Lamb's been terrible. I don't care anymore.
The Taylor's been hurt. I'm done. I'm going to still
watch it. Still going to enjoy my Sundays. I took
Devon A. Chan in the third round. How's that
been working out for me? God, he's been a
disaster. Chris Olivae's hurt.
Tank Dell was a third rounder. He hadn't done anything.
Marvin Harrison Jr. has a concussion.
Man, this is everybody's getting hurt.
So why are we so watching then?
It's the NFL. We're obsessed.
Yeah. We could do some DFS.
Well, I do honor dog.
That helps.
That pacifies my time.
I'll tell you that for sure.
All right.
713, 212, 579.
I want to hear from you Houston fans.
Because I don't know you guys.
There's some Texan fans out there.
Because Lord knows, many of you didn't go to Green Bay this past week.
Funny is he's still available for in the Texan section.
Your squad is 0 and 2 against the elite team.
That's not true.
Buffalo is an elite team, I still think.
Yes.
They're one and two against elite teams.
Is that fair to side?
I think that's fair.
Am I forgetting anybody else in an elite category?
Yeah, I think the Colts are elite.
No, you don't.
Patriots? Nope.
Patriots, it was extremely elite.
Javille?
Nope.
The Patriots are elite?
No, they're not.
As a franchise.
Well, it's a history.
As that logo they wore two weeks ago.
713-212-5-790.
How are you feeling today when you went to the office
where you talk to your buddies about the Texas performance?
Come be honest, we won't bite.
7-13-212-5-7-90.
Yeah, well, Matt's had a good question about how you're feeling.
Well, how you've been feeling in your day-to-day life, not even just about your sports teams.
Maybe they've got your energy down, but maybe your energy down has been down anyways.
Maybe the motivation, the libido, all that stuff has not been great.
Let me point you towards synergenics, testosterone, and weight loss.
Why synergenics?
Because I know you have a lot of options.
You choose them because you get personalized TRT plan that is more advanced in basic standard
therapy you're going to get with other providers.
They're going to tailor treatments specifically to you.
They're also experts with G-L-P-1 weight loss.
You can be evaluated for prescription weight loss medications at Centrogenics.
That's why you need to go to CentrogenicsHealth.com.
They have clinics all over town.
They're going to tailor those treatments to you.
So you should book an appointment, start turning your life around by going to Cinergenicshealth.com.
That's S-Y-N-E-R-G-G-G-X-Health.com for Cinergenics, testosterone, and weight loss.
Lunch timers.
This is the Matt Thomas show.
All right, our time is 103.
Good afternoon, everyone.
It is the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
We take this program to 3 o'clock.
At 120, we're going to get into the Deshawn Watson conversation.
He is definitely out for the season with a ruptured Achilles.
And the folks in Cleveland weren't shedding much tears.
We'll discuss that coming up at about 15 minutes from now.
We have the Texans on the agenda.
We have who we're possibly rooting for.
or we're just going to turn it off for the Dodgers Yankees.
We have a coach flat out in the final game of the season,
blaming an official or officials for a bad call to end the season.
And we have the University of Texas acting like a bunch of morons
getting fined $250,000 for throwing water bottles on the field.
And Georgia won.
You're really twisting a knife on this one, aren't you?
No, I'm not.
Yeah, you are.
No, I just said very rude.
Did that act like morons?
I don't know some morons
Was it moronic?
They acted like children
Yeah
Spoiled
Entitled
Largely with Texas
Alumni
This is not something that happens all the time
I've never seen anything like this
If you can point out to another time
Where you've seen this
I believe this
I believe when y'all played Alcorn State
You did the same thing
Oh really?
What year?
1983
Yeah you're making that up
Of course
You don't know that
Yes I do
Okay
I just you know
If the Aggies would have done
Something like this
You'd be all over them too
I said it was embarrassing
and terrible. What more do you want me to say?
I want you to say they should succeed from the SEC
and go play the mid-American.
Mid-American? You can come back to Big 12 and bully
all sorry-asses.
I don't know. BYU is undefeated.
They didn't really bully the Big 12 anyways.
Iowa State. Texas only won the Big 12 three times.
Only three.
You know what? Let's get the old SWC.
Sorry. Let's get the SWC back.
Is it four times? Well, as I said before.
Those are the James Brown game.
Don't be scared.
You guys are going to be in the, you're going to probably be in the final
for. We'll see what happens.
And you're going to play Georgia at least one more
time. Who's going to be their quarterback?
That'll be for it to tell the truth today
at 1.30. That's one of the things.
Look at you.
I think about these things occasionally.
Okay. Let's believe it or not today,
at $2.50. I don't know. I don't care. A hooligan fans?
Texas, believe it. I'm sick. I don't want to do this.
I'm not feeling great either. I can do it if you want.
Yeah. Why don't you do it? I'm not doing anything.
What's the category?
Jordan Love?
We did Green Bay last week.
What could be the category?
Things about love?
Hmm.
I mean, athletes are there.
There's Kevin Love.
Yes.
There is Jordan Love.
Buddy Love.
Who's Buddy Love?
Oh, that was in the Nutty Professor.
Oh, good pull by you.
Davis Love, the third?
Yeah.
Davis Love.
Jordan Love.
Kevin Love.
We need one more.
You'd be complete.
There was Hakeem Love.
he was number 34 for the rockets.
No, we loved the key.
Okay.
What's another love?
I'm sure we can find it.
My sixth grade social studies teacher's name was Ann Love.
Yeah?
Were you attracted to her?
Far from it.
There was a Stan Love and a Bob Love.
Oh, Bob Love.
Was he a football player?
No, Bob Love was played basketball.
Okay.
He was nicknamed a Butterbean.
Winning one more love.
No, I don't want to do that.
All right, we'll find.
We'll figure something.
All right, let's talk to people.
a huge. Okay, let's do that.
713-212-5-790.
7-13-212-5-7-90.
Let's talk to Robert and Katie on the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Robert, thanks for holding.
What's going on?
Hey, guys.
I thought it was a real exciting game.
You know, we had five guys out, I believe, on defense.
They were out, and a defense really stepped up.
And I think we just got out-coached a little bit.
We're almost there.
We had to lead up until we were one first down,
We would have got that last first down.
It ate up the clock and just kicked.
We didn't have to score the touchdown by eight up the clock,
and, you know, I believe we would have won it.
But still, we had the lead with a minute and, what, 40 seconds,
and we couldn't hold him.
And so, you know, D'Amico, he's in charge of the defense.
So, you know, I think we just got out coached.
But I thought we did great.
You know, I don't.
was the fourth quarter kind of wonky with the way they called those plays at the 12-year-in-line
and trying to figure out if they're going to go for the field goal or get the touchdown?
But I didn't see there was a bunch of missteps coaching-wise on the course of the game.
Did you?
No, they tried to run the ball a bunch because every time they tried to pass the ball.
And this is why they were doing it when Joe Mixing went is out,
and everybody's calling Bobby Sloat conservative.
You see what happens when they throw the ball a bunch?
They end up under a lot of pressure.
The passwalking has not been great outside of Laramie Tunsel.
And even he was getting in miscommunications this past weekend,
and there were too many free runners at your quarterback.
And this is a healthy offensive line, right, Ross?
Yeah.
I'm not missing anybody, are we?
Is what's his name?
Patterson is out, I guess.
But, yeah, basically.
I mean, this is the starting five that left camp to be the starting five over the course of the year,
and they cannot pass protect.
And CJ finally showed Rossi some signs he was human.
He threw a day his damn helmet down.
He's like, I'm tired of getting my chain running for my life.
He was running for his life.
He was going to happen when he runs for his life.
He's going to get sacked.
He's going to lose the football on a strip sack.
He's going to hit his head on the ground.
He's going to tear an ACL.
I mean, he knows future injuries are on his way.
It was, man.
But how do you sure it up in the middle of the season?
They just need to.
The offensive lineman, I think it was a Shaq Mason and maybe it was Laramie
tonsill, too.
They said it's on us.
We need to communicate better.
They need to figure this out.
Play action, more short-step, short drops, three steps throw.
They're just missing assignments where you have guys coming in unblocked.
Generally, unless six, seven guys are coming at you, there is somebody not getting picked up because there is a miscommunication.
Alignment are not figuring out who is who.
Yeah.
But it's been a week-to-week situation.
At least on the positive side, the penalties have come down significantly.
Yes, that's good.
Now, if it ain't one thing, it's another.
Now, here's the thing.
The Colts are coming in.
Texans are a touchdown favorite against Indianapolis.
The Colts struggled yesterday in their win against Miami,
who again was throwing out multiple quarterbacks
because I think who was the other guy that,
their star yesterday got hurt for Miami.
Tyler Huntley?
Tyler Huntley left.
Snoop Huntley got hurt?
Yeah.
Who was throwing?
I believe they went and Godam Reno out of his retirement papers.
Interesting.
So.
I didn't even see that.
I didn't know Tyler Huntley got hurt.
Yeah.
So it's far from an impressive group.
Tim Boyle!
Yeah.
Texans great.
Texans legend, Tim Boyle?
Yeah.
Good God.
Skyler, would Skyler Thompson still hurt?
Yeah, but two was coming back in a couple weeks.
These injuries in the NFL, my goodness.
It has been too much.
Now, here's the problem.
If you lose this game on Sunday, which you're not going to, I don't think,
you're going to be in a tie with the Colts.
You could.
And the Colts and the Texans have an even one-in-one.
one record, so they'd probably go to the AFC South
records. Now, the Texans have only not faced Tennessee
yet.
We'll have been done with Indianapolis, and
who else am I forgetting?
Oh, and they won one against Jacksonville, so they may have a tiebreaker
over the Colts. And the Texans have a better team
than the Colts do. They just do.
Anthony Richardson, in a very, very small sample
size, he's played his best football against
the Texas. That's right. Two games, two impressive
ones. Now, one he left because of injury, but
yeah.
And the Texans just play a lot better at home.
He's got two throwing touch
downs against the Texans, one against everyone else this year, Richardson.
I expect the Texans to win that game, but Richardson's giving them some problems.
All right, so that's coming up on Sunday. We'll talk more about that as a week progresses, but first things first.
Again, what happened to the Bobby, we're lucky to have Bobby Sloics staying another season?
I mean, literally, are we that short-sighted on this?
I think so.
I don't think he's doing an awful job. I think it's just a really low-hanging fruit.
again, the final series of the game, huge question marks.
And when Dimeco speaks to the media at 230, he'll give us a little explanation on that.
But if you're trying to drain clock, you run the football every single time, the three times in a row.
If you're trying to score a touchdown, which you have said, and I kind of back you up on this,
which you want to do is you want to put the immense pressure on them, you have to throw the football.
You just do.
And so what if you incomplete the pass?
it's not like the end game
you still gave the Packers with the way
you ran things plenty of time. We'll have to go.
They burn their timeouts.
So only benefit of you,
only non-benefit of you throwing the football is
they don't burn the timeouts of the pass is incomplete.
And oh, by the way, you have your three timeouts.
So if you are going to leave more time on the clock,
you could possibly try and get the ball back
and then score your own field.
And we've seen them do that before.
With long, that was a game against Buffalo
when they scored like to win that game.
So, yeah, the whole last.
sequence. And let me ask you this. This is more macro than micro.
Do you feel like, and again, I'm a Texans observer, not a fan, so I want to make sure this
is not coming from me. Okay. But I'm going to say something. It feels like there are times in
every game where we have questioned D'Amico on a challenge or a use of timeout or a strategy.
Now, the question I have for you is, do we do that with every team that we follow? Or are we being
hyper-sensive towards D'Amico, or is D'emico making mistakes that most other NFL coaches would not make?
I have a pretty firm opinion about what I think about him as a game manager.
And we'll tell you about that when we come back.

I mean, I love our company, but seriously, do not.
Dude, you're not going to listen to dudes on dudes.
I'm sorry.
We have many other better options.
Dudes on dudes.
Please.
I mean, I love, I've worked for IHeart Radio for about 75% of my radio.

Yeah, I was a Clear Channel, OG.
Me too.
Utterly, dig dudes on.

I thought it was Philippines.
Whatever.

She's nice.
I'm sure the Filipino podcast was great.
Basketball podcast.
It's probably long gone.

I'm sure what John Walls is thriving right now.
I bet I couldn't find it if I tried.
Dudes on dudes.
Why don't you get them to cut you a check for one of these podcasts, Maddie?
Because I pay me enough.

man matt's messing this up this he could do way now the funny
stuff like when when
When artists played the creed music as compared to the creed the group.
Yes.
That to me, I went back and listened to that.
That's good.
I've listened back to when Deshawn Watson, I mean, Deioner Hapkins was traded.
I've listened to that.
Okay.
I listened to when we were in New Orleans and the band took over.
All of a sudden that we've replayed before, I've always fine.
But a normal day like me, we're giving you excellence every day.
We're not, you know, we're cuss and disgust in here.
But I'm not going back and listen today, should.
Okay.
But you should.
on Spotify.
All right.
So let's get back to the key point.
The thought about his overall game management,
especially in, say, the final five minutes of games,
I think we as football fans pay attention to what our coach,
the one we follow the team,
we follow where we were like,
and we have a very sensitive grading scale on that.
For instance, if we were doing,
Rams radio, and we were doing a show in LA,
we would probably have a thought or two about how Shaw McVeigh
runs things late in that contest, right?
Yes.
So I don't know if Shaw McVey is a good game manager or not.
I don't know if...
Now, McCarty might be,
but his teams gets blown out so much.
And it really...
McCarthy's terrible.
It's moot.
McCarthy's coming under fire several times over the years.
Is Dan Campbell a good game?
I love...
Dan Campbell's great.
I think he's great to everything.
I think he's awesome.
And I thought he was going to be one of these meat-headed coaches
that was going to be fired within two years.
Far from it.
Because they were a disaster when he first got there.
A huge win yesterday in Minnesota.
We're going to fall down and I'm going to bite your ankle, all right?
We're going to bite your knee.
I'm like, this guy's in over his head.
But no, they've got a really good team.
They've got good coordinators.
Dan Campbell is one of them more aggressive.
I love coaches who are aggressive on Fort Downs,
and Dan Campbell is about as aggressive as it gets as far as the NFL.
Okay.
I think...
So my point,
I would guess if you took somebody that watched every game,
that Domingo is average to bottom half of game management.
I think he's below average, slightly.
I think he can be aggressive at times,
but he's aggressive when it's easy,
when it's like fourth and one on the other team's 40,
where 10 years ago you're punting it away or 45 or so.
But I think when it comes to really,
on the razor's edge. You need to be aggressive. You need to go for it. I think too often he punts the ball away. He settles for field goals. He's got that defensive. It seems to be a lot of times a defensive coach mentality. I trust my guys. I trust my defense. We're going to establish the run. We're not going to be, we're not going to give the ball away. We're not going to be mega aggressive. We're going to win with the run game and defense. And I think he's a little bit too much ingrained in that. He's more aggressive. He's more aggressive.
aggressive than that old school thinking, but not anywhere close to some of the new school aggressive.
Like we mentioned, the Dan Campbell's, I don't know, Mike McDaniel and the dolphins actually have their players.
He's very aggressive.
I think Sean McVeigh can be aggressive as well.
I think offensive minded coaches are going to be that way to begin with.
Andy Reed, which it's easier to do it when you have Pat Mahomes and that offensive line and all that type of stuff.
But I think those coaches are much more aggressive and just daring to be.
be great, which I don't think, and I think this last drive in this last game shows that they're not
aggressive enough to me. But nobody checked him, like again, you want to run it on first and second down.
Joe Mixon gets you seven yards, get you eight yards, you're feeling great about this because
you're in the end zone, you've won't you scored the touchdown, you put your foot on their throat.
Instead, you got two negative plays. So then you make them burn the two timeouts. You might as well,
in that particular, I don't mean to
pinpoint one small part of the game,
but this was a huge part of the game yesterday.
You gave Green Bay one opportunity left.
If you're going to go run on first down and run on second down
and play Uber conservative, which they did,
you're going to do the same thing on third down.
You're not going to stop the clock.
You're going to make them burn their third timeout.
But that's why the aggressiveness matters
is because, yeah, it is going to come down to one drive.
That's every NFL game almost.
It comes down to one drive, one decision.
The margin for error is so thin
that you have to get these things right.
And that's why the analytics crowd, normally, you know, you see they put it on TV.
It's like, well, they say go for it.
They so go for it.
And then these old fogies like Mike Florey are like, why does it say go for it every time?
This thing is busted.
That's because the old conventional way of going with everything was too conservative.
Because you only get 10, 12 drives every game.
If you score four touchdowns in a game out of those, that's 40% of the time, you've got one of the best
offenses in football.
You've scored 28 points a game.
So you only have so much.
many opportunities to be aggressive
to go for sevens. You have to seize
those opportunities and I don't think Demico
Ryans does it enough. Yeah. And I just thought
yesterday was really uneven
on what their philosophy was
especially because not only was the
pass play on third down to tank
down, if drop stops the clock, but it wasn't going to
get him. It was not getting a first
down. He was going to catch the ball and fall out of
a bound stop in the clock. He was also under pressure
in that moment too.
So I mean, I'd have to go
back and watch the game maybe, but
maybe I will. Whether you play action,
whether you scramble him, whether you take a
three-step drop and you throw a
route to the post, whatever
the case may be,
get the time. I mean, Don't
Shultz was involved in that one play early on and we didn't
hear from him as a receiving guy the rest of the
day. And I will say this. If they
stopped the Packers, we're probably
not talking about this as much, but that
doesn't mean that it wasn't the wrong decision in the moment.
Yeah. All right, we're going to do a little
to tell the truth. I have four sports
takes of which I believe only one of them.
And Ross and Connor will try to decide which of the four, I believe.
713212-5-790.
7-13-212-5-7-90.
Time is 128.
I want to tell you, before we play to tell the truth, I'm going to tell you the truth about using
Game Day Men's Health.
This is a organization that's here in Houston that are opening up clinics left and right,
and they have been such a huge part of the...
the nation's opportunity for men that have had testosterone issues that they're now opening up
locations here in Houston. Game Day, men'shealth.com slash Houston is a website I want you to go to
right this second. I'm going there right now and you're going to be able to find locations near you.
We're talking about testosterone therapy replacement. We're talking about erectile dysfunction
issues. If you are suffering with low tea, you could have a loss of sex drive, you could have
reduced energy. You could have decreased motivation. Your mood swings. You don't want any of that.
That's why you've got to get testosterone placement therapy. And you can do it right now by booking
and getting a free testosterone test at gameday men'shealth.com slash Houston. Game day men'shealth.com
slash Houston. Three locations are open up right now. Two more coming up in just a matter of weeks.
That's game day men's health.com slash Houston.
But he does.
Here's the segment where Matt gives us four horrible takes and one of them he actually believes.
Why was I talking to wax instead of introducing this segment?
It's my fault.
This is your fault.
I'm punishing you.
Four takes.
You don't know how to do.
Now, it doesn't mean all four of these could eventually happen.
Yes, it's four of them or one of them.
You believe.
I want to believe.
All right, gentlemen, here we go.
Connor is in a good mood.
He understands that sometimes you can't win at these things and he takes the losses like,
man. Otherwise, my partner does
not hear. What? You whining, cry
like a little B.
What?
Cutter gets all upset.
He starts crying, he starts
making more flubs on the board.
Oh, now he's talking about your technical prowess.
I'm just kidding. Wow.
We'll see what.
I don't even care anymore. These takes are so bad.
Number one. The Texans
watch their offensive line
put together one of their worst performances.
Okay.
Yesterday.
And maybe, generally speaking, they've underperformed all this year.
Nick Casario knows this is a good football team.
He knows he is an elite quarterback, gentlemen.
We're going to see something that we don't normally see in the NFL.
We're going to see Nick Casario make a trade for some serious offensive line depth before the trade deadline.
Okay.
It's going to go find a team.
I can't tell you who it is.
It's going to be somebody's underperforming, looking to get rid of some salary.
Yeah.
And the Texans are going to go.
an offensive lineman.
Okay.
Number two,
I was so ridiculously
impressed with how Kansas City played
yesterday.
How impressed were you?
They have really two really
good opponents the rest of the way.
Oh.
Home for the Texans, I believe.
And I think they have to go to Buffalo.
Okay. Now, they've got other good teams,
but I'm talking about two elite teams.
I would not be
surprised. I'm not calling it. But I'm saying
I would not be surprised if the
Chiefs go 17 and 0 this season.
Okay? Because they can win close games. They can win
blowouts. They can win in tough road venues.
They can play when their
quarterback gets intercepted a couple of times.
They're just the... They're a great defense.
Their defense spectacular. Their coaching
doesn't get out coached ever.
They got a legitimate shot at 17
and 0.
Okay? Number three.
When the University of Texas plays in the
college football playoff. Oh, geez.
Arch Manning will be the starting quarterback for that
college football playoff. Or it should be.
No, you're saying it should be or will be. I'm going to go,
I'm going to go both. Because I think Arch will have more experience
by the end of the year. And he is definitely much more of a running,
scrambling quarterback than Quinn yours.
So I think it would be in the University of Texas' best interest
to start Arch Manning for the national.
Championship.
Right.
Okay.
And fourth and final,
in a series that we all despise
and can't stand,
the Dodgers,
because of their ferocious offense
and better overall pitching,
are going to win
the World Series in five games.
Okay.
So, I have the Dodgers
as your World Series champions.
Wonderful.
So my four takes are
the Texans should go all in
in training for an offensive line.
I think Nick Kassarria will do that before the trade deadline.
I wouldn't be shocked if the Chiefs go 17-0.
The Texans, Texas, excuse me, the Texas Longhorns should make the move to Arch because he now has the experience.
And he also has the ability to scramble because if his offensive line is going to perform like I did against George on Saturday,
he's going to have to scramble for his life.
Or the Dodgers are going to win the World Series in five games.
Gentlemen, which one of those takes am I telling?
The truth.
What do you think, Ross?
I don't think the chiefs are,
I don't think he thinks the chiefs are going 17 and 0,
or he doesn't think they,
he wouldn't be surprised.
I agree. It's too hard in the NFL to do that.
Dodgers are five, I don't know,
that's just kind of so mundane in bleh.
I'm just going to toss that one out.
I think I'm actually going to,
I think it's down to one or three to me,
and I think I'm just going to go with three.
Why not?
See, I'm kind of,
four that, I mean, the Dodgers have to stretch it out.
We'll have to stretch it out.
It's okay.
We'll talk about other things.
We'll get to Sean.
It's not going to get to.
I mean, yeah, the Dodgers have a lot of free time.
Go ahead.
I was just saying the Dodgers have been lining up on offense this whole postseason.
So it is true.
Against the Yankees, I don't know.
But, yeah, I'm kind of between one in four.
I don't know if,
based on Saturday's performance, if that was enough to bench Queenie.
at the moment.
So, I don't know.
I think I'm going to go four.
I think Matt believes in the Dodgers.
Okay. I'll go three.
Okay.
I will say that
two of the four
are way significantly more
I believable than the other two are.
Okay. So I will knock out the first two.
I don't think the Texans can go get an offensive
lineman by the deadline. I don't know.
They could. Why not?
They could, but...
They should.
They should.
Have you seen Titus Howard flying out of all?
over the place onto the ground.
But I just, I don't think you're going to be able to go find.
These are Casarios guys. Yeah.
And generally, general managers like to stick with their, they stick with their guys.
And they want to say that they can make the proper adjustments on a week-to-week basis.
I think the Chiefs are the best team in the NFL, AFC-wise.
And I think it's, and I think I may have to hedge my bed a little bit and say maybe Chiefs Lions in the Super Bowl.
Okay.
But it's, guys, it's just too hard to go 17 or no.
You'd have to be perfect every single week.
and while they could very easily win in Buffalo
and they could very easily beat the Texans,
they may slip up, they may lose in Denver,
they may, you know, it's just,
they won their first four games by one score.
Yeah, I mean, it's not like it's,
they're playing a bunch of FCS schools.
These are real life NFL teams.
So while I believe they could be 15 and 2 or 14 and 3,
I don't see them going 17 at 0.
Rossi, I really like Archmanning a lot.
Oh, okay.
But Quinn Ewers is the older quarterback,
the pedigrees, got to the championship round last year, the semifinals.
It would be very difficult for me to see that Quinn Ewers would play so poorly that he would be benched in the most important time of the year.
He was literally benched this last weekend.
But he came back in the game and scored.
So it wasn't like he came back and threw two more picks.
It wasn't good.
But it was, I mean, he improved advice on what he did earlier.
So not that I have a super strong feeling about this, but I think he was,
the Dodgers offense,
Mookie Betts,
Shohayotani,
they're loaded.
They just creamed the Mets
over and over and over and over again.
It was a six game series.
Yeah, but they were...
So the Mets can push them to six,
but the Yankees can't?
Right, because the Yankees are going to strike out a bunch.
Oh, my gosh. And I'm going to personally put a voodoo hex
on the New York Yankees. So I have the Dodgers winning this in five.
Yeah, that's fine.
Your love for the longhors blighted you.
No, I just...
Four just seemed like, like I said,
it was just bled and who cares and how could you say
if the Mets took them to six,
Again, if the Mets took them to six, why can't the Yankees take them to six?
She's a bad take.
This is a bad take.
Your Longhorns lost, you're sick.
You just lost to me and tell the truth.
I lost you.
I didn't like either three or four, but I mean, I just picked one.
You hear this again, Connor?
He's just making an excuse up left and right.
Exactly.
It's fine.
It couldn't even let you finish.
He already was starting to argue.
I'm used to it.
I've been working with this guy for 14 years.
I know his bit.
That's cool.
Well, we'll see what happens in the World Series.
The Dodgers win in five, I will say you were right.
Oh, you'll forget it.
And guess what I'll do, Ross?
If the Dodgers don't win in five, I will say I was wrong.
Yeah, and it'll be what's added to the list.
Not a very big list.
They don't call me.
I believe it a laundry list.
They don't call me Nose Thomas for a reason.
Nosturongas, I believe.
And Peach Basket.
No, nobody calls you a peach basket.
With your vast basketball knowledge,
can you believe this Wednesday we've got the start of the regular season?
I can't believe it.
I could see my free time vaporizing before my eyes.
Yeah, we talked about that.
Catch me on the launch pad.
Are you doing this Wednesday?
What do you think?
What about you do?
Who's working Friday?
What do you think?
Are you working Saturday, too?
No, I'm not doing Saturday.
Dan Matthews is stepping up a little bit.
So it's Wexler and Clinton could probably step up here eventually.
Stan Northfleet, take your tickets?
Oh, I'm in.
Stan Northfleet.
Can you do postgame?
Oh, I'm busy.
That's okay.
Yeah, it's fine.
Yeah, it's fine.
And that was to tell the truth.
All right.
Up next.
Do we have a conundrum on how the Browns treated DeShon Watson, or do we not?
I want to think about that for a little bit.
Okay.
We'll discuss.
You know me, I don't want to be a fence center or anything.
But I could kind of, in a debate, I could argue either way on this.
And we'll discuss that coming up in a minute.
713-212-5-790.
7-13-212-5-7-90.
If you're not feeling very good,
these days, Ross, can you
help the folks or no?
You don't have to.
Oh, okay.
But you know what I'll do first?
Go ahead.
Tell them.
What? Yeah.
Help them.
How's your energy?
Oh, mine's great.
You look like hell.
I look, I'm tired.
Oh, it's great.
Motivation, I mean, lethargic.
I have too much libido, actually.
Okay.
Well, you know what?
I'm going to look at Taylor Mathis for a quick.
Oh, God.
All right.
Well, if that's not going to work for you long term,
look, and this can be a serious thing.
it can be embarrassing and it can be something that can put you in a rut
and make you not necessarily scared,
but you don't even want to go to bed at night
because first of all, you've been restless and your energy's been low
and then libido hasn't been good and you're like,
man, what can I do?
I feel backed into a corner.

The Houston
Sports Buffet is open.
How about any of your responsible radio host
and I give you sizzling, hot-firing texts on this week?
Lunch, with the Matt Thomas show.
I ain't no sizzler.
I'm the Golden Corral.
On 790.
Things I say.
God.
It's funny.
Anything I say usually gets repeated on this radio station,
either Friday at 12 o'clock or in promos
in the course of the week.
I give material
when I frankly don't
nobody asked for it.
It's part of your charm, man.
All right. So here is the
conundrum.
DeShanna Watson
is a despicable
sexual predator.
Fact.
No criminal charges.
But
sleaze ball,
lurker.
Well.
Um, coercion.
Uh, multiple, multiple payouts to save himself from serious legal issues.
He's a creeper.
He is the obvious definition of a creeper.
There's something amiss about needing, what was it, 66 masseuses?
Yeah.
Okay.
So that's Deshawn off the field.
On the field, he is an underperforming, very highly compensated quarterback.
Yes.
He's been terrible.
He's been one of the worst quarterbacks in football.
probably one of the five worst in the NFL this season.
Yes.
Okay.
So he's out there yesterday trying to help the Browns, and he tears his Achilles and ruptures, I guess, is what they have known.
Yeah.
And he's done for the season.
And if you saw the highlights, he put a towel over his head and he was crying because obviously A is in pain.
B, he has not been able to say healthy at any point as a member of the Cleveland Browns.
Worst contract in NFL history.
And he knows that he's going to be compensated a lot of money for,
guy that is significantly underachieved as a Cleveland Brown.
So what did a lot of fans?
I don't know how about the number would be.
Now, there is a Twitter feed out there that has some stuff that's been piped in that
wasn't true.
So you got to be really careful what you look at and what you don't look at.
But by no means, did Deshaun Watson get any sort of, we feel sorry for you applause from
the fans that were in Cleveland yesterday.
They basically got of, you suck, you pay all this money, and you're a creeper.
Well, a NFL player, and actually several NFL players, went to his defense yesterday.
And help me out with this, Connor, it was James Winston, right?
The guy that eventually replaced him.
Okay, James Winston.
It was Dorian Thompson, Robinson, and then I think he got, did he get hurt to?
He had to be because James was the emergency quarterback.
So James was asked by a member of the Cleveland media, his thoughts about Deshawn Watson being booed by the home fans as he was carted off the field.
I was taught to love no matter the circumstances, especially for people who do right by you.
I'm grateful that I had a chance to serve the son, but I am very upset with the reaction to a man that has had the world against him for the past four years.
And he put his body and life on the line for this city, every single.
single day, regardless of your perception, regardless of what you thought should happen with him,
he committed every single day that I've been here to be the best that he can be for this team.
And I know I come from, I come from the deep south, Birmingham, Alabama, Best Alabama,
so I know the standard that hungry fans want.
But the way I was raised, I will never, I will never.
pull on a man when he's down, but I will be the person to lift him up.
And that, all of us have unique experiences.
All of us have circumstances, conditions, and facts that we face every single day.
And I pride myself in being a man of increase and being a man that wants the best out of everybody.
I'll tell myself every morning what I want for myself, I want for everyone.
and I do not want the treatment that Deshawn Watson has received from these passionate fans.
I know you love this game.
When I first got here, I knew these were some amazing fans.
But Deshaun was treated badly, and now he has to overcome another obstacle.
So I'm going to support him.
I'm going to lift him up, and I'm going to be there for him.
Because I see the way he fights.
I see the way that he works.
and I know who he is as a person and as an NFL quarterback.
And that's all I have to say to address him.
These obstacles he said to overcome Ross were created by himself.
It was what obstacles?
Two dozen lawsuits and $230 million.
And which he paid out on all those?
And shoulder surgery, yeah, that happens.
Yeah, he's paying out a bunch of lawsuits.
apparently more on the way.
I mean, I'm, here's my elementary thought of this.
I don't like when an injured player gets cheered off the field.
Number two.
There are exceptions to every rule.
They're exceptions.
Number two, if Deshawn Watson was passing a ball beautifully like he did as a Houston Texan
as a Cleveland Brown, the Cleveland Brown fan would have forgotten all the things
it happened off the field and they would have cheered for him because their hero was leaving the field.
That's true.
So you have a combination of he sucks and the allegations, the lawsuits that were filed and it's a perfect recipe for let's boo the hell out of this guy who has been a major disappointment for our team both on and off the field.
Yeah, you're right. And I don't know. I mean, if, if Deshaun Watson, if the Browns were five and one,
and Deshawn Watson had thrown 18 touchdowns and two picks.
Does he get booed when he's off the field like that?
Absolutely not.
Absolutely not.
Harrison Butker got destroyed this offseason for his political views.
When he made the kick the other day against, was it Cincinnati?
It was somebody big.
It was a big double-header game.
They're all cheering.
They all cheered for him.
We as sports fans forget about everything off-the-field stuff,
as long as on-the-field stuff helps our team.
That is correct.
So that's the only way I would go,
Cleveland, you might have been a little tough
because if he would have been good for you,
you wouldn't have done what you did.
Oh, Cleveland fans are big time hypocrites.
They were all putting out,
not all of them.
Okay, not every single one.
There was a very, very, very large portion of the fan base
that I saw on Twitter and posting on people putting on signs up
about Deshawn Watson,
and they were making dolls with him like on a massage tape.
and all this stuff in support of Deshawn Watson.
It was very bad.
So that's the only bit of defense I can give to Deshaun.
The James Winston little monologue there was very heavy-handed.
It was over the top.
And James Swenson is like that.
He's kind of a character.
And he says all these weird, bizarre things.
And let's go eat a W.
And makes all these, if you're strong, and I said, he's strong.
And he's strong.
And we're like, what are you talking about, James?
And about what James is kind of how he's.
crab legs from grocery stores.
Well, yes.
So, I don't know how the country,
because I didn't watch in the national shows,
I've been kind of proud of myself.
I'm not watching any of those national shows anymore.
I'm so proud of you.
It's been a long while.
I'm very proud of you.
But I'm curious what the national perspective was on this,
because at least from my perspective,
it was you don't boo an athlete off the field,
but this is a little bit of a different story,
because at the end of the day, Deshawn's just not a very good person.
Would I have booed him because he tore his Achilles,
No. I would have booed him because of...
But what he did.
But you don't dissect booze when it happens.
No.
When you boo a guy getting carted out the field, that's the indication of you suck.
We don't feel bad for you.
And am I going to shed a tear?
Exactly.
For Deshawn Watson, look, you ripped your Achilles, tough.
You got $230 million.
You should probably be in jail.
He's very lucky he's not.
But you got Rusty Hardin?
You got the money to afford...
If Deshawn Watson had 25 cases against him and he didn't have as much money as he did to get the best lawyers on the planet,
probably he would not be, he would not be, have been on the field in Cleveland the last couple of years.
So while it's not classy, it's kind of understandable.
But the thing that I have on the, I have on the decide, and the Deshawn side of it is if he was throwing for two or, if he was having a Patma home season in Cleveland,
no one would have been, has been bad, actually.
But you might point.
If he'd have been a lead quarterback this year,
no one would have booted in the way.
They boot him yesterday.
Right.
So Cleveland fans are hypocrites.
I'm with you on that.
Okay.
All right.
Final hour of the show.
We're going to give love a bad name again?
I don't know.
It's a good song.
Sure.
How do you film and Bon Jovi in general?
Slightly overrated.
Overrated.
There are people on this planet who act like they're one of the greatest bands of all time.
They just made a couple of 80s hair band hits.
They're fine.
Just a couple.
I'm going to, not knowing their discography,
I'm going to assume they've had more than two hits.
Yeah, if I'm licked up at 1.30, and what's their big hit?
You know, the one that everyone sings, why, it's not coming to my mind right now.
Some sugar on me?
That's not them, is it?
No, that's somebody else.
Oh, okay.
It's my life.
No, live it on a prayer.
Yeah, if it's 1.30 and you're lickered up.
I can't hear you.
And living on a prayer comes on.
Yeah.
How many?
I'm screaming it.
Let's go.
We're going to look at the Bon Jovi
discography. See how many hits they have.
Final hour, the Matt Thomas show.
I don't care.
You need something.
Let's play. Let's play you give a love a bad name.
We'll write the song and we'll come back with those highlights.
Let's say about quality home products of Texas.

how about going to quality tx.com and applying online for you to
work with the great folks at quality home products at Texas. Competitive pay, benefits, 401k,

Launch timers.
This is the Matt Thomas show.
Cross the field.
Here's love.
To the end zone.
Diving catch.
What a catch it is by Kraft for the score.
Here it is, Mixing.
Round the end and in for the touchdown.
Took two plays to bring it home.
They get the play in the books now.
They don't challenge it in time.
They go long.
They go long.
They get the completion.
near the one yard line.
Touchdown.
Dantavian Wicks.
Got the 4D line here.
Collapse the edges and force it back inside.
There's Mixon.
Mixon.
Mines his way to the end zone.
And another Houston touchdown.
It's a great adjustment.
Second and goal from eight yards out.
Right back to Jacobs.
No one there for him this time.
Touchdown.
Green Bay.
His first ever touchdown.
Reception. Paul and the veteran
just came here on Wednesday. He's got
this to win it. No snap.
The kick. It is good.
McMannis.
Did we do our Bon Jovi
discography or what? How we feel about
their star power? They still
feel stadiums up, right? Are they still around?
I guess. It's my life.
Living on a prayer. Those are
karaoke classics.
You give love a bad name? Three hits.
Runaway?
Bad medicine?
That's the other one.
That's a jam.
Bad medicine gets the people going.
That's four.
And then these are a bunch of covers of old 60s rock bands.
Wanted Dead or alive?
Dead or alive?
Oh, dead or alive.
You know what?
You can fill up Cynthia Woods with them.
Absolutely.
With what's left of them, I don't know.
Anybody die?
Everybody good?
Everybody's around.
Are you sure?
Yeah.
You're not sure that every member of the...
I can't remember every band name, so yeah.
I got criticism for that.
when some rando band member from some band died,
like, oh, we're going to miss his drums.
Like, you didn't even know who he was.
Living on a prayer, and you give love a bad name.
Back-to-back number one hits in 1986.
Bad Medicine number one.
I'll be there for you number one.
Oh, this, you know what?
We've, we, you and me underrated them.
They've got, they got stars.
Always was number four hit.
Huh, it's my life wasn't, uh...
Wait, that can't be right.
That has to be a re-release.
All right.
Bon Jovi here.
on the 790.
My Life was in 2000.
Is that accurate?
They haven't had a hit in 25 years?
I mean, I'm impressed
that they had one after having hits at 86.
That's true.
That's true.
Bon Jovi bought some sports teams, too,
did he not?
They owned the Philadelphia soul of the
Arena Football League.
I don't know how that's going.
I think not well.
No, there's no arena football league.
That's a defunc league I've worked for.
I worked for two defunct leagues.
Actually, three, I think.
I think you worked for like five defunct teams.
Yeah, that's right.
The Minnesota Swarm was an indoor lacrosse team.
They're gone.
How do you, how does one call indoor lacrosse?
Very well.
They loved me.
Give me a technical lacrosse term.
Like when I, well, first of all, indoor is box lacrosse.
They don't call it indoor.
And then I've forgotten the rest.
Hmm.
What's the little basket they have called?
A highlight.
I don't know.
I don't believe.
You don't know what it's called.
You called the games?
I've done a swarm game in 17 years.
Yeah.
They paid me very minimal money, but I get to eat in their club suites at the arena, which was kind of nice.
Oh, it's just called a cross?
Box lacrosse.
Indoor.
No, the stick they use.
Oh, lacrosse is it called stick?
Okay.
That's fine.
So teams I've never, I've done games for them no longer exist.
The Texas Terror slash Houston Thunder bears.
RIP
Houston Hot Shots
Correct
Minnesota Swarm
That's three
The Comets
The Comets is four
And I never did any
Arena football
I'm sensing a pattern here
I'm sensing a pattern
I better go to cash those checks
All right

What are your takeaways
from the game
Takeaways
Let's go to the good and bad
real quick on this
Okay
Joe Mixing
what a game changer he is.
Texans MVP Joe Mixon.
Sorry to be disrespectful, but Damien Pierce and Gumbawale
and Mayan Rekers.
He's not dead. He was on the Vikings, returning kicks.
Yeah.
What a difference A1 running back makes
compared to number two and number three, number four.
Yes.
So that's number one.
Kind of a fairbaring, 50 plus yarder, outdoors.
Usually those kickers are usually pretty good indoors,
but not so hot outdoors.
He nailed a 50 plus yarder.
yesterday. Yes.
D'emico Rines was too conservative
in the last... I said pluses.
Oh, pluses, I'm sorry.
Oh, Neville Hewitt.
Neville Hewitt.
And Jake Hanson.
Yes, Neville Hew and Jay Hanson were pretty good.
Jake Hanson, I thought, was a character on Melrose
place, but no, he's an NFL linebacker.
So he needs the positives on them.
The negatives? Yes.
Offensive line. Do you give them an F?
Can you give an F? Can you give an F?
you give an F when Joe Mixon gets the holes or no?
I'm not going to give them an F, no.
D. D.
Pass blocking F, run blocking B.
Overall grade, D.
There were a lot of times where he was, Joe Mixon wasn't touched until he was a few yards
down the field.
There were some beautifully blocked run play.
C.J. Stroud. Underwhelming.
Tank Dell. Underwhelming.
Stefan Diggs, underwhelming.
But they were just under pressure the intent.
entire time. Maybe that goes back to the offensive line.
So is that what we're going to do? And I'm okay doing it. Are we going to blame everything about the
lack of a passing game yesterday on the pass protection? Yeah. I guess we have to.
When teams blitz and stunt, Matt, this is from fantasy points who does advanced data,
which you love. Oh yeah. Here we go. Their pressure rate is 75%.
Stunting with blitzes, 75% pressure rate. I don't know if you know, that's not good.
How did the offensive line grade out yesterday?
Do the dorks over at pro football focus?
They normally release those on Mondays or Tuesdays.
We can do a deeper dive on it tomorrow.
I think it's going to be poor.
It was bad.
Everybody was getting lost.
I don't know.
You can blame Dario Gunboale, whoever you want.
There was just too many free runners coming in.
Titus Howard tripping over his own feet.
I don't know if somebody, one of the Packers tied his shoelaces together.
I'm not sure.
Spencer, I mean, special teams were good.
Tommy.
Is it Tommy Townsend?
Yeah, he's a punter.
Good punter.
Man, he was booming him out.
Well, yeah, he was a, I think he was all pro with the Chiefs.
But he had kind of a sluggish start here.
Yeah.
But he's obviously rebounded from there.
Side foot in it.
Get into punning technical terms?
We don't have to.
Let's see what else.
I thought D'Amico was underwhelming.
I thought slow work was underwhelming.
Anything else that we need to get into?
Injuries, you know, you had four starters, five regular players out.
Them's the breaks, right?
Yeah.
But the defense was a great.
I thought Will Anderson gutted through a shoulder issue a couple different times in the game
I was able to perform yesterday so that was good for him.
I thought the defense played very well, all things considered.
And I'll tell you what, Jordan Love to me was good but not great.
To me that's the Jordan Love experience.
He's going to make you go wow.
I mean, he tried to throw the game away.
When he threw that ball down to Wicks and the end of the game in the middle of the field
when it was a one-on-one situation, that was nearly picked.
Yeah, I mean, he could have been picked at least one.
one more time, if not, too.
So, yeah, I thought they were good.
I looked at Green Bay yesterday.
Like, that's a five and two football team.
That is nothing close to Detroit, nothing close to Minnesota,
nothing close to Philadelphia.
No.
They, as one of the callers said earlier, tier two.
They look like a tier two team.
But you know what?
They're good in their home stadium.
Tier two is good, but it's, they're not looking like anybody's quaking in their boots for
like Kansas City or Baltimore.
And I got one more thing real quick in the third.
30 seconds left.
I don't think if you're an opposing team, you should be a Lambo leaping in anywhere.
And if you go into Lambo leap in your opposing team, you should get your ass kicked.
Well, he went towards a Texans fan.
There was one Texan fan among 20 Packer fans.
He was trying to leap towards that guy.
Yeah, that was a mistake.
Just throw the ball down and celebrate.
That was fun.
Yeah, I'm getting my ass kicked.
No, you deserve it.
A limbo fail.
Be like going in there and trying to get a kiss from Texas Darlene in the bullpen.
What?
Yeah.
I was it like that at all.
Opposing teams going in there.
Where's Darlene?
I'm going to give her, she can give me a big smooch.
What?
Yeah.
Okay.
Just don't go, just let the Texas players make out with Darleine in the bullpen.
Your fixation on Texas Darlene.
I haven't talked about her Harley at all this year.
How's she doing?
I'm sure she's great.
She wearing still the bling from the different department store she's worked at?
I don't know.
Yeah.
Oh, Darlane.
How's traveling, did Travel in Texas procreate this weekend either?
What do you mean?
Well, that's a little, it was, you know, nice outside in Greenbe.
this weekend.
Okay.
Going to the parks.
I don't know if they were conceiving children.
No, I don't know, Matt.
Oof, that'd be an ugly group.
All right, 213, 212, 570.

Oh, dudes on dudes.
You know, when that commercial comes on, I go check out Taylor just to make sure that I'm checking myself properly and I am.
How's she doing?
How are her bets this weekend?
It doesn't matter.
What do you mean?
Why doesn't it matter?
Isn't that what she's posting with all?
these posts is her bets. What else are you focused on? Her
pearly white teeth? Does she smile in these things? Yes, she does.
You should be toothless and you wouldn't even know. I mean, she's got ample breast.
If you're into that sort of thing. Ample breasts.
Here's how she did this weekend. Eagles minus three. Win. I think that is a win.
Kirk Cousins over 35 and a half pass attempts. I don't know. I...
I'll go, I think he was under, but we'll go, well, it might have been over.
They only scored 14 points.
She moneyline parlayed the following.
Oh, my lord.
Commanders, win.
Yes.
Rams, win.
Uh-huh.
Bengals, win.
Bills win.
Now, those are all heavy favorites.
Yeah, what does that get her even money?
That is, that is to make a deep cut.
Tony the Hatchet Man Valentine stuff.
She parlayed all the heavy favorites.
Yeah. Good for her.
Hey.
If you would have taken the four moneyline favorites, heavy,
you could have turned that $25 a bed into $40.
Yeah.
Good job.
Let me see.
Well, maybe she was on a heater.
Kirk Cousins, what was the total?
35 and a half.
Ooh, he had 35.
That's an L.
Oh, no.
By the way, friend of the show says that John Bind Jovi recently saved a woman from jumping off a bridge.
Really?
Do you write a song about it?
I don't know, but I stay off that bridge.
Why does he sound like he's an old-time
1965 country song?
Well, I don't know. Post-Malone's
Whid country? Why can't he?
They did?
Yeah. Post-Malone's one person, Matt.
Oh, sorry.
Hey, I'm getting Post-Malone and jelly roll
mixed up. Sorry.
That's also one person.
Yeah.
Is it Mr. Jelly-Role or just The Jelly Roll?
I think it's Senior Jelly Roll.
Senior Jelly Roll. Okay, I got you.
I'm stop.
Are you all right?
You're not choked up over there.
Some more teeny down your throat.
Oh.
All right.
713, 212.
5790.
Oh, gee.
713, 212.
Would you calm down?
Wasn't that bad.
No.
That's good.
It's because Connor.
Connor's laughing.
It's made me laugh.
Turn off the tee.
I'll turn them off.
Connor's start laughing.
Yeah, Connor go cut a rug somewhere.
Okay.
You turned it off.
I can't.
Hi, Rick and Sugarland on 790.
What's on your mind this afternoon?
Hey man
I just thought I got a
arena football fun fact for you
Oh how fun is it one to ten
It's a ten
All right
So do you remember when you were calling the games
Who the quarterback was
Well yeah it was Clint Dazelle
Exactly
One of my buddies
His son plays for Clint at Texas
A&M Commerce
Oh nice
So Clint's to the head coach down there
And yeah
He went to the ridge point
His son with Ridge Point and then plays down there now,
and I thought it was interesting as soon as you brought out the Thunder Bears.
Well, Rick, first of all, I find it to be a fun fact of a 10.
Since Ross does not have any sort of arena football history, how fun of a fact was that?
I'm talking about a one and a half right now.
You hear that, Rick, he says it's a fun fact of one and a half.
Well, here's the thing.
I heard that he has an extra supply of water bottles.
Oh, yeah, that's good.
Get them, Rick.
Get them.
You know?
No, I don't.
They're all gone.
Now is it extra?
They're all in the field.
Yeah, they're just waiting until, you know, somebody else puts it on them.
So, you know, his opinion in that doesn't matter too much because if he doesn't appreciate
your arena football, I mean, how big of a fan can he be?
Exactly, exactly.
I love arena football.
You know what, I know that we're talking about hockey and we're talking about bringing the WMBA here.
We've got to bring arena football back.
Then the league folded multiple times?
Let's give it up.
I'm ready.
I'm ready to do some more arena football games.
You just want some more checks.
Yeah.
I do.
Who does I want to stop making money?
Have you ever heard anybody say, I'm got plenty?
No, not really.
Would you like to make some more money?
No, I'm good.
I don't believe that for a second.
What do you got for me?
What do you got for me?
You got a Korean barbecue lunch for me.
That's all my bonuses.
Well, we'll see.
Let me go check.
I've got to check on a couple things.
But that's going to be great.
I already know where we're going, too.
All right, real quick, speaking of the WNBA.
I don't know how I possibly segue into this.
Okay.
Did you hear the coach of the links basically
ripping the crap out of the officials?
Yes.
By the way, the lead headline,
this is fresh, actually.
WMBA players opt out of CBA.
They face a 25 work stoppage.
Is it really a work stoppage
if nobody knows about it to begin with?
They're opting out of their CBA?
Yes.
I think they already made a deal.
They already got chartered airplanes,
bigger salaries.
What else do they want?
I mean, you can only ride
Caitlin Clark's coat tails enough.
Star Driven League.
They all are.
I mean, the NBA was floundering until Magic and Larry Bird showed up.
Yeah.
Okay, so the Links lost of the Liberty yesterday.
Wow.
Are you still recovering?
And you said you watched that, correct?
I actually did.
It was game five.
It was close.
It was the fourth quarter.
I'm like, yeah, I'll watch it.
I mean, I have multiple TVs displaying in my home, so I had it on one of them.
And then when it was like five minutes left and it was close, I was like, all right, let me flip this thing on and focus on it.
And then it went to overtime.
And I'm like, dang it, come on, man.
All right.
So the links have a coach.
Yes.
And her name is Cheryl Reeve.
Okay.
She said that, let me give you, I know all the headlines will be Reeves cries foul.
Bring it on because this blank was stolen from us.
Language, Matthew.
Was stolen from us.
Wow.
Okay.
I want to read some more inflammatory quotes here because I would say, let's see.
here.
I'm getting a bunch of liberty calls in here.
I'm trying to try to what she said.
Basically, she said that there was not a file
with all three officials screwed up on the play.
They challenged the call and the folks missed it.
She wants a third party to come in and start watching these things.
Wow.
She ripped the crap out of the WNBA
for missing a call that eventually sent the game in overtime.
Now, if you want to go look at the video of this,
because I've done a very poor job of explaining this.
Yeah, you did horribly.
I fully admit that.
Not only was there a foul called on her player
that sent the Liberty of the free throw line,
but the Liberty player took four to five steps
before she got contact.
Brana Stewart? Yeah.
Now, as I was watching this, Matt,
because I told, this is why he come to me
for my WNBA expertise.
I come to use for nothing else.
I thought it was correctly called a stance.
Now, though, she did not hit
the woman on the wrist or the arm,
but there was some body contact
to where there could have been called a blocking foul.
All right.
I thought it...
Did you see the travel call before then?
Did you see the non-travel call?
Yeah.
That was horrible.
Well, welcome to the NBA is like that too.
There's a traveling on every play in the NBA.
So I thought whatever the call was should have stood.
If it were a foul, this is why I hate the clear and obvious.
Yeah.
Because if you've asked me, is that a foul or?
not. I would say that's not a foul. But then
you ask me, is that clear and obvious overturning?
I would say, no, it's not clear and obvious
overturning. So I hate that language
in all reviewing. It's either a foul or it's
not. And to me, that was not a foul.
Yeah. But she's basically ripping
that. I mean, this is after the final game of a series.
Yeah, it's game five. What, rigging
for what? Why are they rigging the game?
Because they think that New York carries
bigger cashier, which the answer is, no, it doesn't.
But it's already game five of the championship. What game
do they have for getting New York their first
championship? And wouldn't they've been rigging it for the last
several years? It wasn't that New York Liberty's
first championship in 28 years? Yeah, it makes
absolutely no sense.
Absolutely no sense. All right. 713212-5
79. That will conclude today's edition of WNBA
conversation. You said you'd never bring it up again.
Did I really? Yeah, you went back on your word.
I'm used to it.
I just think it's funny that
they're rigging it in game five.
All right, I love it. The WMBA's really coming of age when
coaches are calling them right now for rigging it.

monday after football game press conference right now before we do that let's go to brandon
seven outing at two 35 brandon good afternoon hey how's it going guys good matt i'm going to help
you out here a little bit uh i think at one point post malone and jelly roll may have done a performance
together so maybe that's why you were thinking they were multiple people for post malone
Brandon, all I have to say back to you is thank you.
The other thing on the Texas, I have something on the Texas, but on the Texas football thing, throwing stuff on the field, that's just part of being in the SEC.
I don't know if Ross is still there or not, but that's just part of the deal, Ross.
Gordia has taught you over the years.
It just moved more.
Terrible.
It was so trash.
Yeah, I was embarrassed when it happened.
That being said, y'all probably want to go ahead and not lose at Vander.
built this coming week.
Yeah.
That's not a given anymore.
No, it's not.
It's going to be tough.
On the Texans, y'all kind of brought it up earlier.
People are concerned about all the injuries and the defense.
The worst part of the game yesterday was the part that wasn't injured the
offensive line.
And I think that's the biggest issue they have going forward.
I wonder if at some point we see Blake Fisher coming into instead of Titus Howard or
get Jared Patterson in there instead of just a change.
change something up a little bit.
Oh, I'm sure the depth chart issues are going to be discussed this week for sure.
Blake Fisher's been terrible, though.
When he's come in from when Tunsell's gone down a couple of times and when Titus Howard was out,
Blake Fisher is not the answer to me.
He's significantly worse than Titus Howard.
Not experience at all and probably.
Yeah, not to say he can't get better.
He's super young.
All right, let's go to the press conference now with D'Amico.
We have a lot of things to clean up when it comes to, you know, our protection and it's
everyone involved, right?
O-line, tight-ins, backs, is everybody working together, being on the same page and just getting it done.
Like, we've had multiple weeks where the same things have hurt us multiple times,
so we have to get a fixed, starting with the coaches, and down to the players of finishing and executing that.
As far as the same things, like, do you, like, personnel changes or just schematic?
Like, is it just as simple as execution, or if it's been the same thing for a few weeks, do you think?
Yeah, for me, everything is on the table when it comes to it has to get fixed.
My Chris Grouse is right now and being able to turn things around.
Yeah, like I said, when it comes to it, I know how we're a coach, what we're asking to be done,
and it's just not showing up on the tape.
And it's not just one person, it's the entire thing.
So it's just the entire offense from the top to the bottom.
We have to get it cleaned up, not one person or one thing, but multiple things.
multiple issues that we have to get collectively we have to get it fixed.
Well, the play that looked like it may have gone backwards before the touchdown, was there
a consideration of challenging that?
Did you get input?
Maybe that was not a good time to challenge?
Yeah, from the guys upstairs, it wasn't, and they thought it was forward.
So, me, looking back at it, should I have challenged it?
Yes, it's always, you know, you look back.
Hindsight is always 2020.
So you're looking back, like, should I throw the challenge?
you know, maybe throw it there.
So I look at myself too, like wish I would have thrown it there
just to force them to make a decision.
On the third and 15, the final offensive play,
now that you've looked at it,
are you still pleased with the decision and the play call there?
Yeah, we had a one-on-one opportunity right there,
and we had to win that one-on-one opportunity,
which, you know, we put Tank and CJ in that spot
to win a one-on-one opportunity,
and we did it make the play, didn't get it done.
Is the goal to get out of bounds there, though,
because it was short of the sticks,
and it was near the sidelines.
The goal is to complete the pass.
The goal is to complete the pass.
When some of the offensive problems,
what gives you the confidence that things can't be fixed this season?
Yeah, the guys have done it.
Multiple games.
We've had a lot of great games where we have protected very well,
and we've done a great job of protecting
and allowing CJ to throw for over 300 yards
in games, so it's not
something we can't get done.
It's just a matter of us executing
and finishing and being on the details
every single time we go out.
It'll always be about us and us executing.
We didn't execute well.
They made some plays on us,
and, you know, they,
unfortunately there, we gave up some plays
that kind of knocked us out of field goal range
to take points on the board.
On the offensive line with a lot of the guys
talking about it, they talked about communication issues,
There were a lot of free rushers where you see a guy unblocked completely.
Is it as simple as a communication issue?
I mean, obviously physically, you guys have a lot of large investment.
These guys feel good about their ability to fly.
Everything is going to start with communication.
It's going to start with guys being clear and concise on what they're doing up front.
So it all starts communicating, everybody being on the same page.
How much?
Yeah, because on the road, it feels like that's when most of you guys' sack is popped up.
to the bear with him, you guys have a few sacks that you guys allowed.
By at home, the communication seems to be more in sync, but on the road, it seems like
the communication can kind of get a little haywire when it comes to the offensive line protection.
How much is the crowd noise factory and how much it's just not guys not being on the same page?
Why is it on the road picking up the stunts isn't as effective when you guys are at home?
Yeah, of course, being on the road for every team, it's going to be more difficult with the crowd noise.
That's why fans are important.
They can truly affect the game by creating noise,
especially in those third down situations.
So we have to communicate in the huddle,
get out of the huddle sooner, right?
More urgency to get to the line so we can communicate
and be on the various looks that we get on third down.
How difficult is it when the offensive line struggling within a game
to maybe adjust things on the fly with the offense,
change some of the things that,
and may we practice,
this, now it's not available to us because we're having a hard time blocking.
How difficult is that in the game?
Yeah, that's coaching, right?
Good coaches have to make sure we make those adjustments and get it done within game, right?
And that's where, you know, you separate yourself as coach being able to adjust on the fly
from whatever you may have prepared for and what is happening right at the moment.
So you have to be able to adjust on the fly and get it fixed.
No, Mixon had a really good game on the ground.
What was allowing you guys to kind of get Joe Mixon going and, you know,
with the line.
When it came to the running game, I felt like our guys did a really good job of getting good hat placement,
hat on the hat.
Like we had a couple really well-executed, well-blocked plays.
And it was just showing our guy when we do it, right?
And we're on the guy we're supposed to be on.
And you hand the ball to Joe, Joe was going to make some impact.
plays happen for us and everybody thrives off the momentum that Joe is able to create like with
his run style and his playmaking ability that is really huge for our team so his mentality how he runs
the ball it really gives us a chance how we just have to continue to continue to feed him and
continue to be able to clean up our issues whatever we have there in the passing game to be able to
have a well-balanced offense what do you think it will take to get him more involved in making the big
plays that you saw for rookie?
Yeah, with Tank, he just has to keep going.
I believe in Tank.
Believe he'll be able to make some big time explosive plays for us.
He just has to keep going, and he will do that.
I have all the faith in Tank.
What you like about what Neville was able to do?
Can you even Jake Hanson?
Neville stepped in and played really well for us.
For him to come out, their first series,
to be able to start with Petrie, Petrie,
the pass and for Nev to get the interception
and something we really talked about that we needed that game was
attacking the football and taking the football away
and Nev made a nice impact play for us there
I mean third down third and one short yard to stop he made a play
he was flying around and he played really well for us
and Jake as well they did a good job stepping in
and filling in and being where they were supposed to be
and making some big time plays for us
Can you talk after your accordance of the college game because you're swip or you're tied for the first week?
Yeah, this game is big this week.
I mean, the coach is coming into our house and this game for first place.
It's a huge game for us.
And, you know, we have a bad taste in our mouth from last week.
And so we're excited about this opportunity.
And so I told our guy, you can't get up for this game.
And, I mean, why are you here?
So this is a big game.
game. Everybody understands the impact of this game, and we're excited to move on to this one.
A lot of the explosive plays through the air coming with the tight ends versus the receivers
like only have 34 yards. Where do you think kind of the tight end passing game was successful
compared to getting the receiver's in the moment? We were able to get one explosive there
with Dalton across the middle when they were playing three deep. We're able to hit them with an
explosive in Cade, got an explosive on a checkdown. So those guys, we were able to get them.
guys were active in the passing game.
Of course, overall, our
passing game, yeah.
It's not
everybody knows
it wasn't good enough across the board, so
we have to find ways to get everybody
involved in the passing game.
What did you do, Danico Latry?
Yeah, Danico, really, you know,
pleased with him getting back, first game back, first time
out, playing football in a while.
So he's going to take some time to get back
a little rusty, but he'll get back going.
All right, there you go.
That's part of the Damico Bryant's press
conference cannot
look ahead, get past this
game against Indianapolis. You need
this one or you're going to be sitting there in a tie in first place
in the EFC South and I don't think everybody thinks
that's going to happen. All right, let's play
believe it or not. What is the category today's sports RV?
Do we have one? Love.

We didn't have time to talk about this.
Apparently, falls in 18's lap.
The max, again, I'm going to use some secondhand, so I don't know if this is, but this is.
Okay.
He could have gone for a lengthier contract for a max of 224.
So he's getting three at 106.
Okay.
So, again.
This literally happened a minute and a half ago, so we'll have a chance to chew on this for tomorrow's show.
