Lunch timers.
This is the Matt Thomas show.
12-0-2 in H-down.
What's happening, lunchtimers?
Hello.
And welcome in to a Monday edition of the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Diggs back there.
They fake to him.
Mixing wanting to go out.
Here comes right to the end zone.
Caught Dill touchdown.
Stroud.
Tundle of a block.
Mixon touchdown.
And just right there.
At two possessions, two touchdown passes.
That for 10 yards.
Second down in goal, Stover in motion.
To the end zone.
Caught, touchdown.
Stefan Tiggs.
Got it.
Right down the middle.
Third for CJ Straub today.
12 for 82 yards.
On the ground, here's more chunk yards.
Big block by God, it's a touchdown.
It's first in 10.
Pierce.
Getting a block outside from Schultz.
Finding room.
Very good.
It's a foot raise with Tavai.
Ann Gonzalez, who pushes them out before he is 54 yards.
You get Joe Mixing back.
You're playing a rookie quarterback.
You get the run game going.
No Nico Collins.
No problem.
Three touchdowns thrown by C.J. Stroud.
And you also get your first multi-score game, your multi-score win game.
and your first double-digit score win.
And the Texans beat the New England Patriots 41 to 21.
Now improved to 5 and 1 on the season,
and we are going to talk about it on the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
But again, without Matt Thomas, he left early on Friday.
Let's see, he's missing time last week.
Now he's not on the show today.
Apparently had some travel snafus,
and so gracious enough to hang out with me for at least the first hour.
One, Chris Gordy, Gordy, thank you for hanging out.
Yeah, I think Matt, Matt said now that we added your name officially to the show,
he's going to give me off the show as much as possible.
Yeah, he feels the need to, you know, hand the reins to you a little bit more,
and he'll just take some days off.
You know what, that's a responsibility I'm ready for.
Okay, so Matt is going to be out today.
Unfortunately, he ran into some travel hell in the Northeast this weekend.
He'll be back tomorrow.
So now it's me, Chris Gordy.
Conimer governor's back as well after the worst case of shit.
strep throat in human history.
The guy gave the old cough, cough, I need a week off.
And well, here he's back now with us.
And you can get in as well.
You want to talk some Texans.
A lot of angles to get to on this one with C.J. Stroud.
Continuing to throw interceptions, but the touchdowns flowing as well.
What about that Texans defense?
Will Anderson had himself a game, but Drake May at the end of the day with three touchdowns.
A lot of stuff to get to 713, 212, 5, 790.
713-212-5-790 is the phone number if you'd like to get in.
We also have an asterous farewell to get to.
Oh, yes, we do have one of those.
Don't scare the people. We can get to that in a second.
Tweets to at SportsRV.
At Connor D. McGovern and at Chris Gordy.
Follow the man on Chris Gordy.
He's trying to get his impressions up because he pays Elon every month, so he needs to get that check.
So go follow at Chris Gordy.
You see that rocket ship get caught by the little tongs yesterday out in South Pardry?
Yeah, what is that even me?
I saw that everywhere.
It's a reusable rocket, Ross.
Okay.
Is that?
That's huge.
What does that mean?
How huge is that?
It's one step closer to Mars and further space exploration.
Okay.
So we can get to Mars or are we going to colonize Mars?
We'll get there eventually.
You got to get there first.
We're trash.
We've got to get supplies there.
This is like the quicker turnaround.
You can reuse that rocket like later that week, apparently.
We're going to be someone that like we were trashed a hell out of our apartment and we're
going to break the lease and then move somewhere else.
We're just going to ship off to Mars.
We're going to make this the landlord's problem.
It's just you want to make sure you have plenty of supplies out there because it takes several weeks to get there.
So you want to make sure you got enough stuff out there.
Yeah.
I thought it was supposed to be uninhabitable.
Okay, well, I'm super excited about this thing that will be finally fully operational when I'm dead.
So I'm not really that worried about it.
It used to be though when it like a space shuttle and stuff where you did a launch, you dropped the rocket off and it's just, it goes to a trash pile, never be used again.
This literally launches the rocket up and then comes back down.
you can reuse it, the booster.
Oh, wow.
So what does this mean for the Texans in their upcoming game against the Green Bay Packers?
Well, much like Joe Mixin is a booster that when he is available for the Texans, he opens up this offense.
Well, you know what?
You didn't do that great, but you didn't do that bad.
I'm proud of you.
Yeah.
Camp Acres as a running back is more like the one that imploded a few months ago.
Hey, Keeley's imploded.
Didn't even get off the ground.
This offense could get off the ground with Joe Mixon plays.
All right.
So just your overall, you know, kind of like we do on Tuesdays.
on this show, Gordy, gut feeling.
41 to 21.
In a way, wasn't a clean game,
but you also won by 20,
so it's hard to come away,
really upset about what happened over there,
New England over the weekend.
Yeah, I said this, welcome to the season, Houston Texans.
Like, this is what I expected of them before the season.
You know, they had a bunch of close wins
and, you know, playing kind of down to the competition.
You know, and then the blowout loss of Minnesota.
but a 2.1 over Indianapolis, a 4.1 over Jacksonville, a 6 point went over Chicago.
This was the first time this year you blew out an opponent.
That's what I want to see from the Houston Texans.
Yeah, all of it also does have to do with the, how about the horrible ball security by everybody on the New England Patriots?
You did get gifted some turnovers, and I think that can somewhat muddy the waters.
Like to me, I think they beat the bills worse than one score.
I think that game wasn't as close on the field as it looked like with the final score and their inability to score in the second half and a lot of the turnovers and losing two to zero in the turnover battle here.
I actually think the flip of this, you win the turnover battle four to one.
You get a lot of short fields and not that they were ever really going to be in danger.
They still were the better team on the field on Sunday, but I don't know that they were 20 points better is the way that I would put it.
Right. Well, they were what, a six and a half. Somebody called last hour got mad that they were like,
They were only favored by six and a half.
Yeah, because the Texans were playing with their food.
Like they were playing down to the competition.
This was a showing that you did exactly what you needed to do.
And this is the way I always will go.
If people want to complain about the spreads, go two hours to the east,
head to Lake Charles, and put your life savings on any spread that you think is wrong
and see how it goes for you.
If you think the Vegas is bad at making numbers,
you can go over there and be a professional gambler.
You don't have to work your 9 to 5.
You don't have to be a schlep around in your day-to-day life.
You can just go on over the book and become a millionaire and see how that goes for you.
It's not like the Vegas was disrespecting the Texans.
The Texans had told you through the first five weeks.
This is who we are.
We're a team that can't blow anybody out.
I thought that, well, I did predict a double-digit win, I believe.
But it was just because you were given waiting and waiting for them to play a cleaner game,
for them not to have all these procedural penalties and pre-snap penalties,
for them not to turn over the ball like crazy.
and it was one interception thrown off of the hands at Dalton Schultz,
but I'm still going to put that on C.J. Stroud, the throw was a little bit off,
and it was a dicey, risky throw, which is the blessing and the curse.
And 99% of the time, it's a blessing with C.J. Stroud.
He still continues to make throws that just make you say, oh my gosh, how did he pull that off?
But, yeah, the one turnover, only four penalties.
I'd have to go back and make sure, but I'm going to guess that's a season low.
I know it was seven last week.
had like 11 against the Vikings. So a season low in all likelihood of penalties, not turning the
ball over. Oh, by the way, that Joe Mixing guy, he's pretty good. Helps out when you have, you know,
that Damien Pierce guy even. He's pretty good. When you don't have to put, look, no disrespect to
Cam Acres or Dari Ogunbo Wally, those guys just are not number one running backs in the NFL.
Yeah. That's what I said. I mean, it just opened up everything. When he hits Mixen on the past,
or at the 20 yard line
and he just runs up the right
left side and I mean goes right in for the
for the touchdown.
It just makes this offense
that much more wide open.
And so yeah, like I was talking
with Stan about the last hour,
but we were debating
or he was fully on board,
loved the mix and signing.
I just had the question
in the off season.
Is he still a top 10 running back?
And I think we saw that week one.
What he did to the Colts?
The answer was definitively yes.
And it sucked.
You know, not having him
these last couple games with the injury.
having him back, though, look at how much different it makes this offense.
They absolutely need Joe Mixing, and he's incredible.
Even when he was clearly on a snap pitch count, 102 yards on the ground.
He also caught a couple passes for 30 yards, two touchdowns overall, completely changes the dynamics for this team.
And I think as long as he continues to get eased in, continues to stay healthy, obviously, Texans going to need him to be at their best.
Okay, time for a quick break here already on the Matt Thomas show with Ross, but without Matt Thomas.
He is out. He will be back tomorrow. He's having some travel issues.
So in the meantime, Chris Gordy's hanging out.
Me, I'm here at Rosvier Real.
Connemoghren is here as well.
We're talking some Texans football.
How did you feel things went on Sunday?
5 and 1. At the end of the day, that's what I feel like you say.
5 and 1, not 5 perfect wins, but the biggest one coming yesterday.
And you're still the number 2 seed in the AFC.
713-212-5-790 to get in.
7-1-3-212-5-790.
More Matt Thomas
Now
On Sports Talk 790
All right, Gordy
You're just going to go ahead and look real quick
For some hotels this weekend in Austin, Texas
It should be fine, right?
Good luck with that one.
Should be a lot of availability.
Let's see what the old mice mine says.
Woo!
Okay, you get the red roof for 400 tonight?
400?
That's before fees, by the way.
Okay, well, you know what?
This is actually not as bad as I thought it was going to be.
You get the Motel 6th studio for 200 a night.
Yeah.
I mean, that's how bad do you want to...
How bad do you need to stay in Austin this weekend?
There is the F1 race.
There's like an M&M and a Sting concert.
There is, of course, Texas versus Georgia,
the premier college football game nationally this weekend.
And apparently you just said ESPN's going to be there all weekend as well.
Yeah, so ESPN just sent out a release and they're calling it the Texas, ESPN Texas takeover.
They are set toast an unforgettable experience in Austin, uniting college football with Formula One fans.
What's the crossover there between college football and F1 racing fans?
You know what?
There's a lot of young F1 racing fans these day because of that documentary they came out on Netflix.
Yeah.
It caught on with the young folks.
So I think there might be some.
This will be centered around week eight.
You got number one Texas hosting number five, Georgia, coinciding with the Formula One United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas.
So ESPN and ABC, their programming will do a takeover.
They will have college game day on Saturday.
Sports Center will be live starting on Friday.
Good morning America will do hits all day.
Good morning, America?
The L. Duncan show will be live.
Who's that?
ESPN Deportes Ahora or Nunca will be live.
Oh, yes.
I think I said that right
No, I don't think so
But yeah, they will also feature
tons of crossover stuff
They will have fan experiences
F1 car displays around the campus
At the University of Texas
Wow
You will have a Cuevo
Will be a Grammy nominated
Areas Cuevo will be on site
What? What?
I couldn't get a Texas artist
This is gonna be crazy
I mean it's
So like the racetrack
Is it going through campus
Or like around downtown Austin?
No, if it's at Circuit of America
because that's a little west of Austin.
Okay.
I'm going to be honest,
I don't really pay attention
of F1, so I don't know.
Oh, so it's not like,
they're not like taking over the streets,
like they did in Las Vegas.
No, no, no.
They did that in,
they did that in Long Beach and something too,
or maybe I was just thinking of man.
They've done it.
Yeah, Las Vegas, they did it.
The number of brunch spots,
you would have to close down.
I don't think it's, uh, no.
I don't think it's like that.
The Hitzkers are going to bring their dogs to brunch.
You would not be able to get there
with the race track.
Yeah, what's the deal?
I guess I'll go look.
I think it's at the circuit of mayor.
I should know this, but I don't really follow the sport very much at all.
It doesn't, it's, okay, I don't want to sound ignorant, but I'm going to.
Doesn't hardly anybody ever pass anybody on a lot of the tracks?
Like, you win the pole, then you won the race.
Right.
And then that guy Verstappen wins like every single race.
Yeah, it's not like 90% of their races or something like that.
It's not like NASCAR where you're constantly stopping.
Oh, cool.
We're stopping one again.
Yeah.
Oh, this is awesome.
Cool stuff, guys.
Really appreciate it.
Well, NASCAR, you stop for one pit stop.
You get passed by 25 guys.
That's true.
Yeah, but you get to sit around for four hours and drink beer and watch them blow up.
Let's see.
Get some crashes.
I can get you in the holiday in Austin at 626 a night this weekend.
626?
Are you serious?
That's just for Friday and Saturday night.
Is that pre-feet, that bore before fees?
Oh, my gosh.
Yeah, so you're looking at about 1,500 just for a hotel on the weekend for two nights.
Oh, my God.
I got people I can stay with up there.
So that would be nice.
but I'm trying to bring up the tickets right now.
I think it's like $700 minimum just to get in and be like the top corner of the of the stadium.
They have a house you can rent for $7.89 a night just off campus if you want that.
Well, that's actually a good deal.
You know what's rough is I'm looking at hotels and it's all the ones that are like not name brand.
It's the ones that's like the Brava house.
You can rent that. Charming delight.
Oh, look, you can get in the corner.
back corner for 529.
Can we talk a heck, can we have a serious conversation about these, these ticket brokers
and their fees?
Yes.
The fees are like $130 a ticket on some of these.
Why is a, what is this fee that we're talking about that is over $100?
Well, they even do it at the box office now.
Looks like some of the prices have gone down.
Have you bought tickets like through a box office recently?
They, they charge you processing fees and everything.
It's crazy.
Or it's like $25 if you do it online, then if you go to the box office, it's,
$5. Like, what are we doing? Why? Yeah, it's online convenience, but that should be, you should make it more of it.
And so I will say Game Time, who's one of my sponsors on Lockdown SEC, they have a feature you can toggle. It's called all-in feature, all-in pricing. You turn that on and there are no surprise fee. What the price that shows you is the price you will pay. Okay, well, that's what I need. So, yeah, it looks like decent seats are going to run you at least a G. Wait, so you're thinking of going to Austin and you don't have a ticket or a place to stay.
I think you might want to just
That's what I mean
They just said it's the biggest weekend in Austin
So what ever
That's how I travel
Maybe I'm gonna go, maybe I'm not
Sleep in your car and tailgate
And it costs you zero
1,300, mm
Yeah but a night game
Georgia in the building
Number one Texas
Oh it's gonna be electric
Oh that'd be nice
I'm seeing a lot of hotels saying no availability
Yeah I'm sure
Can't even get it right
Yeah a lot of they've been sold out forever
It's ridiculous.
Yeah, you know what?
If you get around the end zone for 900, that's not that bad.
Did they ever consider moving the University of Texas to like a suburb of Austin instead of the middle of downtown?
No.
It's the 40 acres, baby.
This makes it so much harder to get in and out.
Yeah, it was built in 1883.
They weren't planning it out necessarily.
They didn't know that 35 was going to be the worst traffic in the state of Texas in 1883.
So my go-to hotel, the trendy three-star mockery.
hotel on campus has no availability.
Oh, that's a shame.
You know what? Maybe I'll just hang out on one of those homeless encampments in Austin.
They got about a 50 dozen of them.
Yeah, I've seen some.
What's that going to cost for the night?
Some of them have laptops and cell phones.
Exactly. You get a nice, you get a tent, you get a two-sleeper tent, and you get a shiv.
I think it's for 75 a night.
Well, crack pipe is extra.
Regardless, it's going to be a monster weekend.
If you want a syringe, you don't even want to talk about the syringe process.
Oh, the days in.
on campus 295 a night.
On campus.
Where's the days in on campus?
Maybe, maybe, you know what?
You find some, how about you find some poor, like rent somebody's dorm room?
This looks like it's right behind St. David's Medical Center.
How about you get into somebody?
Under the overpass?
You find some like 19 year old who's broke and you tell them, hey man, let me have your dorm room for 200 a night.
And then you could stay on campus.
Like an Airbnb.
Exactly.
You can Airbnb at the Jester dorm.
Yeah.
That'd be nice.
I'd do that.
I would do it too.
That's something we can consider.
I mean, here's what you do.
You go without a place to stay and just hang out with a bunch of college kids.
And when they go back to their dorms, they might have a crash.
We just pass out on the lawn of a frat house.
People do that anyways.
It'll be fine.
Sure.
You make it.
Sun comes up, you get out of there.
Colfront's coming through.
The cold front's finally coming through.
That's one of the reasons I was considering going to Dallas, but I didn't.
I don't know what it ended up being.
It was supposed to be 94 degrees at kickoff in Dallas.
An all-time record.
2.30 kickoff?
Maybe not a great idea that day.
Although you would have gotten there anyways.
And the Texas Longhorns
smashed the OU Sooners 34 to 3.
It's quite satisfying.
It's a night game though, right?
Oh, yeah. Saturday it's at 6.30.
Yeah.
OU, they need an offense.
Paging, like, here's the crazy part.
Michael Hawkins was a four-star recruit,
and Jackson Arnold was a five-star recruit.
The fact both those guys can't play,
tells me you're not coaching them.
Well, also, Hawkins, well, four and five
starts don't work out all the time.
Well, I'm just saying this isn't like a walk-on.
This isn't Stetson.
Yeah, there's a true freshman, though.
It was the first time a true freshman started the OU Texas game
in the history of the program.
They've been getting after it over there at Oklahoma
before they were even illegally a state, I think.
They scored three points on their first drive
and then didn't score again.
Yeah, I mean, Hawkins didn't look ready.
He looked scared. He looked lost.
He was just running for his life the entire time.
And why don't we give some?
credit to that ferocious Texas Longhorns defense.
Yeah, nothing against
Texas's defense. I think they're good.
You know what? You're just a hater, Gordy.
Nobody's ever good enough unless they win by 50
and even when they win by 50, it's all about something else.
I just would like to see them be tested by a real offense eventually.
Maybe they'll finally play somebody who's got an offense.
Does Georgia have a real offense?
Yes. Carson back. Just through for like 400-something.
I'm just wondering so we can find out beforehand
because afterwards, if they score like 17 points,
it'll be like, well, you know they're offence.
Oh, yeah, no, Mark my worry, Texas holds Georgia's 17 points.
I don't think that's going to happen, but we'll see what happens.
Should be a good game this weekend.
Okay, time for a break.
Just glad you got out the UTSA's and Louisiana Monroe.
Oh, and the Michigan, the reigning national champion.
Michigan Wolverines.
Two losses or three losses now.
I'm sorry, they didn't schedule when their quarterback was going to graduate.
No, but the SEC office kind of helped them out.
We won't give you a tough schedule year one.
The SEC office is helping them out.
We'll give Oklahoma the toughest murderous row of
They put him in college station.
You don't have to play LSU.
You don't have to play Bama. We'll take care of you guys.
The last game they played against the Aggies was in college station.
Then they put them in the college station again because the Aggies are a bunch of whiners.
They didn't help them out.
Gotta get one tough game.
Oh, that Georgia coming to town is an easy.
You're two tough games on the schedule.
Oh, Lord, they got to go to Arkansas.
They look pretty good.
Hey, at Vandy ain't no cupcake.
Ask Kalin DeBoar.
Kirk Herbstree said he's watching Upset alert on that game.
Yeah, see?
See?
It's not that easy.
All right, time for a quick break here on the Matt Thomas show.
Didn't even mean to get to college football stuff.
We're still talking some Texans.
We went a little off the rails.
We'll be back on.
Chris Gordy's hanging out.
My name's Ross V. Rial.
Matt Thomas is out traveling in travel snafus.
As he tries to make it back, he will be back tomorrow.
In the meantime, you want to talk some Texans, you want to talk some, I don't know, college football, anything you want to get to.
713, 2125-790 is the phone number.
7-13-2-1-2-5-790.
but before we do get to that break, I have an important question for you.
How are you feeling? How are you feeling about your body?
How are you feeling about the way that you feel?
How are you feeling about your libido?
How are just your motivations going day to day?
Don't let it be a distant memory, the way that you used to look, talking about weight loss,
talking about muscle tone, all that stuff.
At Centrogenics, testosterone and weight loss, how about we can get you a personalized TRT plan?
It's more advanced than basic standard therapy that you're going to get with other providers.
They're going to tailor treatment specifically to you.
And also, the professionals at Centergenics,
who are known for their TRT treatment.
Also experts with GLP1 weight loss.
You can be evaluated for prescription weight loss medications there as well.
Do it now.
Do not wait.
You've been thinking about it.
You've been thinking about it.
You've been thinking about it.
Just put it in your browser.
Cinergenicshealth.com.
Cinergenicshealth.com.
That's S-Y-N-E-R-GenXHealth.com.
They've got clinics all over town.
You can get your life back, start looking and feeling your best best with CinergenicsHealth.com.
All right.
Welcome back to the math.
Thomas show without Matt Thomas, but with Ross. Hi, I'm Ross. Gordy's here as well.
Connemagherne is back in the fold. Coming up at 130, I should have told you this beforehand.
D'Amico Ryan speaking to the media, we will be covering that if we're available to.
If we have the availability, if we have the capability, we're going to do it.
All right, come out. All right, 1.30. I'm getting a thumbs up, so that sounds good.
you had D'Amico Ryan's after the Texans destroy the New England Patriots.
Drake May actually looking pretty good.
Now, that first touchdown, it was a push-off.
It was what it was.
Your guy, the LSU great.
Now, is it C-Shut, Booty?
I thought it was always Bouté.
And then Kevin Harlan started to dropping booty on us, so I didn't know what the deal was.
Yeah, it's been booty for a while.
Was he the one now?
What happened?
What was the disgraceful things he was doing in college?
Didn't he?
He bet on sports.
bet on sports. That's unfortunate. That was after L.O.C. That was when he got to New England.
Oh.
But he had a little divinous to him. He was there when Brian Kelly first got there. And
Brian Kelly was doing the thing, trying to get everybody to buy in. He was kind of like,
I don't need nothing. I need NIL deals. I need all. And I was like, oh. Well, he wasn't
getting the N I DEL deals. He needed to put down some parlies. They got him like a Lamborghini or
something. That's good. But yeah, they still needed, you still got to like show up and work hard
every day, you know, that part of football, and he wasn't doing that.
Well, he's in the NFL catching touchdowns, so at least he was working hard enough, it seems
like.
Well, look, Bill Belichick took a chance on him, so if you can't, if you didn't get buy-in,
you know, under his regime, I don't know.
Okay, well, clearly they didn't buy it enough because he got fired.
But anyways, the Texans win 41 to 21 over the New England Patriots.
But, yeah, I thought, I think it might be a little bit of a future for Drake May.
He, of course, was under pressure a lot of time.
the direct, like that New England
offensive line, and it's just a bunch of guys
that they're slapping together. Literally,
I think they said the center, they signed, he's
signed in the last week.
That Texans Passer was also looking
as advertised. They had been getting
a lot of pressure and the pressure rate was there, but you
hadn't seen a whole lot of sacks from DeNeil Hunter and
Will Anderson, and we saw it on Sunday.
Yeah, four sacks is a team,
three sacks from Will Anderson, and
that quickly, Ross, he joined
becomes top five in the league
in sacks now. And I
telling Stan earlier, the numbers, the bet on line numbers just came out a while ago.
For odds for defensive player of the year, Aiden Hutchinson has been the favorite the last few weeks.
Oh yeah.
He's now off the board.
Well, yeah.
Because he got hurt. So he's off the board. Did you see his leg snap?
Yeah, it was nasty.
So everybody slides up. T.J. Watt, number one, Will Anderson Jr., number two.
Best odds to win.
Really?
Really? I'm not getting that feeling from him.
look, Will Anderson.
Now he's tied with Fred Warner, so I should say.
Oh my God. I'm sorry.
Look, I like Will Anderson what we have here in Houston.
He's not on Fred Warner's planet.
He's just not.
He's fifth and sex.
He's not Aiden. Okay, that's okay, that's cool.
And then the pass rush win rate or whatever and all that stuff.
I mean, I just think, no, he's not as good as Aiden Hutchison.
And he's not as good as T.J. Watt.
He's not as.
He's not even in the conversation?
I would say he's in the second tier.
He's reigning defensive.
Rookie of the year.
Yeah.
Where did he finish?
Well, he's in his second year.
And he did get three sacks.
But I think, I don't think of him at this moment as a-
Seven sacks last season.
Seven sacks.
Yeah, he had a good rookie year.
And that he's good.
And he's got five and a half through six games.
Do you think, no, I don't think he's anywhere close to T.J. Watt, do you?
Well, but that's why Watt's the favorite.
And it's not just sack numbers and stuff like that.
It's how many times do you say, oh my God, that play was
absolutely blown up by Will Anderson.
You're good at on-paced guy.
Okay.
He had seven sacks and 15 games last year.
He has five and a half sacks through six games.
Okay.
What was he on pace for?
What was his pace this last week?
Yeah, they're going to come in bunches and they came against, like I just said,
they had three replacement players on the offensive line.
So credit to Will Anderson for getting there.
But also, I just, I don't think of him as good.
I don't think of them as this game-wrecking unstoppable force,
which I think of Aidan Hutchinson that way.
I mean, Fred Warner is just an alien the way that he can cover as a linebacker.
He can get downhill.
He can stop the run, stop the pass, all that type of stuff.
Well, rewind to 2011.
2011?
When young Justin James Watt had five and a half sacks his rookie year.
We thought pretty good.
Yes.
But we didn't.
Does he have a 20-sack season?
Well, the next year, 20 and a half.
Okay.
So, Will Anderson gets 20 sacks this season.
Well, Anderson is a five and a half through six.
Okay.
You just said they come in bunches.
Okay.
three sacks this week against Jordan Love.
I don't think he's going to
because he's not playing three
replacement players on the offensive line.
I like, again, I like Will Anderson.
I think he's good. I don't think of him
as a tier one.
He's not anywhere near Miles Garrett.
I mean...
Connor, let's clip this and send this over to Will Anderson
Jr. Let's send it to him.
Let him know. Let him know. Let's go.
Motivation. Put me on the
bulletin board. I don't know anything
about anything, but I'm just telling you right now
I put all those guys ahead of him. Now, can
Will Anderson get there? Yes. Is he there right now in my eyes? I don't think so. He also talked this
weekend after the game about how he's kind of been hesitant to let his moves go. So maybe this will
be a moment for him to where he can make some more pass rush moves and start getting some more
pass rush wins. He won, I think it was over 50% pass rush win rate this weekend, which is
spectacular. And that's great. So if he can keep this up, yes, he will be in that conversation.
But right now, I just don't put him there.
said, on God, son.
About to go off.
About to go off.
I would love to see it.
I'm rooting for the Texans.
I want them to beat Green Bay.
They're three-point dogs.
Jordan Love is really good.
That offense is really good.
And I think that defense people aren't talking about.
That defense is playing really well for the Green Bay Packers.
As they shut down Kyler Murray and company, they only got 13 points that whole game.
That is pretty wild, though.
I guess I didn't remember, like history didn't remember that Watt had 20 and a half in a second year.
Yeah, he's pretty good.
went from five and a half to 20 and a half.
Yeah. He's insane.
Now, Will Anderson goes, he's seven,
he's got five and a half so far.
If he's at 10
by like week 11,
it's 12, it's doable.
But again, three of those came against a
duct taped together offensive line
and a rookie quarterback making his first card.
It doesn't matter who they come against. So it's the NFL.
Everybody's pros. Not, yeah. Everybody's
pros, but one, do you have to
contextualize, I think, everything. But I also
can go, on that same note, I can go back
to week two against Caleb Williams, he has his hand on him and somehow he wrangles out of.
You know what I mean? Like he's had bitten this close to some sacks. That's why I think
sack numbers are overrated in the first place. I mean, sack numbers do matter at the end of the day
because you sack the guy. But if you have a guy that's getting 10 pressures and no sacks,
I'd rather have that than a guy getting two pressures and two sacks. Because the guy
getting 10 pressures is going to be affecting the game more. The only thing I'll say on that
because Aaron Wilson's been pushing to Neil Hunter has been among the league leaders in
disruption like he's been get pressures but so the problem with the pressure is I can pressure you and
you still chuck it up and it's a completion down the field a sack I know that ball's not getting
down the field that's true I mean we and we can argue that and by the way I well this weekend
will Anderson was better than denil hunter but I wouldn't say he has been the whole season so
will Anderson to me got some work to do before I just my opinion one person's opinion
I don't have him as like a tier one edge guy at the moment but what
your overall takeaway from the weekend?
Overall take away with the weekend is that defense is great.
Yeah, I mean, Drake May made a couple of good plays,
and I like where that defense is.
Do we have updates on Aziz Alshayor and Laramie Tunsell?
Do we know how everybody's doing over there?
Okay, so we'll try to get some of those updates
when we hear from D'emico Ryan's coming up at 130 on the Matt Thomas show with Ross,
but without Matt Thomas.
Quick break here.
You want to talk about the Texans?
You want to talk about that win over the weekend?
How did you feel?
Did you feel like a 21, a 20-point win?
or you're like, ah, they gave up too many touchdowns to Drake May?
Or are we feeling good?
Five and one.
I don't know how you could be feeling bad.
713, two one, two, five, seven 90.
713, two, one, two, five, seven, ninety.
Matt Thomas, life goals.
Watch, cheer, win, repeat.
Oh, you thought I was talking about sports?
Hell no.
Matt has serious prices, right dreams.
How he has time for sports in between reruns
Just boggles the mind.
Welcome back
to the Matt Thomas show
Without Matt Thomas, with Ross
And with Chris Gordy
hanging out for a little bit.
Conn McGovern is here as well.
Adam Clanton going to be coming up hanging out
in the 2 o'clock hour.
So that should be fun. It's a Neapolitan edition.
I'll go solo. In the 1 o'clock hour, we'll also have
D'Amico Ryans, and we'll also have
you if you want to get in, talk some Texans, whatever you'd like to get to.
713.
212-5-790.
7-1-3-2-790.
A couple of tweets coming in, Gordy.
Talking about the F-1.
Yeah, Brandon says he's one of those crossover fans, so he's excited for both Georgia
versus Texas and the F-1.
People are F-1 fans.
It happens.
A lot of people are very upset about F-1.
Driver's Championship is actually close this year, also Brandon says.
you've been following, you're getting deep into the F1 game?
No, I couldn't even tell you a driver.
I love how there's the Hamilton guy,
and I'm not talking about Alexander,
and then Lewis, is it Lewis Hamilton?
Yes, I think I got that right.
And then there's Max for stopping.
And everybody's making, ever since F1 got popular.
We're like a French guy up there?
Charles de Gaulle or something like that.
Charles de Gaul, I don't think that's correct.
Napoleon Bonaparte.
Oh, LeClerc.
Oh, yeah, LeClerc.
How's he doing?
He's third.
Okay.
Well, good for him.
Are people really, like, excited?
Like, would you skip the Georgia, Alabama game or Georgia, Texas game to be like, sorry, bro, I got F1 tickets.
Well, it's on Sunday, I think.
Oh, okay.
So I think you can hit both.
You can catch both.
Yes.
Hold on.
I'm going to rejecting all these cookies one second.
Okay.
Yeah, Verstappen is winning.
Oh, Leclerch.
Oh, he's from Montreal.
He's not French?
Or it says, oh, Monaco.
Oh, is Monaco?
I'm stupid.
Let's stop doing this.
So it's funny how every
So F1 people know that that documentary made them extremely popular
Now Netflix is doing one for basically every sport
They're doing one for tennis
They did it for tennis, I mean for golf
Aren't they doing some more?
Is the pickleball documentary coming up?
Are people getting ready to do that?
There's got to be one they're working on.
Pro pickleball is the worst sport I think I've ever seen on TV.
Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Worfell
Okay, was just in town a couple of
weeks ago, he's part of some circuit playing pickleball.
They send me a release. They're like, if you want to drive out to Katie to come
interview him. I really don't. I mean, I'm wishing the best for Danny Werfel.
You all had a caller about like a decade ago. Some old guy who played pickleball, yeah.
It was a couple years ago. Oh, are you thinking about Kenny used to play
racquetball? Are you thinking about him? No, I remember there was a guy who like explained
the rules of pickleball. Yeah, it was Pickleball Pete. That was a couple years ago. It wasn't that
long ago. Hopefully
pickleball Pete's doing okay, because pickleball
is really catching on everywhere. I feel like I need to do
this in Matt's absence today, but
shout out to the University of Cougars.
University of Houston Cougars,
coming at number four in the
AP basketball poll. That's wonderful.
Top five. And also
shout out Willie Fritz, moments ago it is
Monday Presser announcing
Zion Chris is the starter
quarterback. He's the one who led them to victory
against TCU a few weeks ago.
Where are they in the poll?
U of H, not there, but
the strive for 500 is underway.
That's good.
They're trying to improve.
Zeon, Chris, going to lead them to the promise land.
The offense moved and scored points last game, so stick with that guy.
Probably going to not hurt.
They have Kansas this week, right?
What's the attendance we're going to be for Houston, Kansas in Lawrence?
And by the way, they're stinking up to join.
Kansas was, they had high hopes with this whole thing of not,
Jaylen Daniels.
Jalen Daniels was LSU.
Is he Jaden, no, Jaden Daniels?
He's Jalen Daniels.
No, Jalen Daniels.
They are, yeah,
Kansas is one and five.
Remember that whole thing?
Kansas is back. We're top 25 team.
Yes.
Yeah, Jalen Daniels has thrown
seven touchdowns and eight interceptions.
So you of HDBs, get your hands ready.
Yes. How's Lance Leapold doing?
Everybody talking about how he's the greatest coach ever.
I'm telling you right now.
When you were the hottest name,
You got to jump. Matt Campbell in Iowa State a few years ago was the hottest name.
Now, he's doing a little bit better this year.
People were talking about him being an NFL, jumping to the NFL.
Yes. And the same thing with Lance, it's not Leopold.
It's Lippold. It's Lippold. They pronounce it.
Oh, I'm sorry, Lance Lippold.
But let that be a lesson, man. Anytime you are getting thrown around as the hottest thing, make the jump.
Because the odds are you were going to underachieve the next year if you stay.
Oh, that's why Matt Rule made the right move.
Jumping from Baylor all the way to the NFL and the New York Giants.
You get the cash.
You get paid to go away.
Yeah, take your money.
Take your money.
And just go.
Take your money and run.
Yeah, it happens.
The windows are quick.
And that's the thing, too.
Like, you have guys who do have good seasons and then they get hired away.
And then all of a sudden, they're at their news joints and it turns out doesn't work out that well.
One other U of H-related nugget.
Their next home game will be a week from Saturday hosting Utah.
Utah just announced today, Cam Rising, their quarterback out indefinitely.
What happened now?
He's in his seventh year.
Out indefinitely.
What is he writing as his doctoral thesis?
Yeah, I think they're not coming out and saying, like, done for the year, but he is not going to play.
So most likely they will not have him for that game.
He's trying to break records like the Bronn and play with his son in college football is what he's trying to do.
Well, Brett McMurphy said he is eligible to return for an eighth year football next season.
At Big 12 media days, he said that's not the plan.
Seven years is more than enough.
But that would be pretty awesome.
That's why I love about these college girls, man.
I get older and they stay the same age.
It's kind of what he looks like he would sound like.
He's got the long hair and the mustache going.
God.
Yeah, former Longhorn legend, Cam Rising.
But can I just put this into the ethos?
Yes.
You of H.
You find a way to go win at Kansas.
You come back home hosting Utah with a chance to get the four and four next weekend.
Okay.
You know, it'd be great.
I think Willie Fritz is a good coach,
and it's been fun to laugh about them getting crushed by Cincinnati and Iowa.
with state not scoring points in those games.
Well, always fun because, you know, it breaks Matt's heart.
Of course. Yeah, I don't, look, I'm going to be honest with you.
A lot of things happened before I worked at this job, and I had, I rooted for the University
of Houston Cougars.
And then somebody comes on these airwaves every single day talking about how they're
the Harvard of Southeast Texas and how they're going to beat everyone in their national
championship contenders every year.
And then I also found out how much University Houston Cougars fans hate the Longhorns,
which I didn't understand either.
And then I'm like, okay, you know what?
If that's how it's going to be, screw you, Cougars.
They nearly got you last year.
But they didn't.
Well, that's a shame.
Terrible call by the refs.
Almost doesn't count.
Terrible call by the refs.
Alabama almost lost to Auburn, and they still made the playoff.
Everybody has close calls.
It's going to happen.
Georgia almost lost to Kentucky, but it didn't happen.
And we'll see what happens this week.
And in Texas, we'll have close calls.
Will they be able to overcome those close calls and remain undefeated?
We'll see.
But right now, they're 6 and 0.
and there was not a close call this weekend against Oklahoma.
Just saying.
All right.
That's going to do it for our number one of the Matt Thomas show.
Gordy, thanks for hanging out.
Yeah, man.
We appreciate you.
Go off and do very, I don't know what you're doing.
SEC, locked on SEC, other duties.
I have like real jobs.
Video producing, TV producing.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, like 17 hats on.
We appreciate you.
It takes an hour to get Adam Clinton's makeup ready for TV.
Oh, I know.
It's a whole ordeal.
We had to outsource somebody to do.
do that. It's a whole thing. All right, Adam
Clinton speaking him, is going to join us to two. I'm going to be
solo in the next hour. So you want to join in?
You want to talk to me? You can be my
co-host in the 1 o'clock hour. 713
212-5-790
is the phone number if you'd like to get in.
7-13-213-2
5-7-90.
Hour number two of the Matt Thomas show.
Without Matt Thomas with Ross coming up next.
Launch timers.
This is the Matt Thomas show.
Our number
2 of the Matt Thomas show without Matt Thomas with Ross. That's me and you at 713. 212-5-790.
7-1-3-212-5-790. Cona McGovern here as well. Thanks to Chris Gordy for hanging out.
We'll have Adam Clanton coming up. 1-30. D'Amico Ryan's going to speak to the media.
We need some important injury updates. Obviously, going to talk about the game that was yesterday against the New England Patriots.
where the Texans flex their muscles, winning by 20.
I think, I mean, obviously, there's no other way to go about it.
Easily the best performance of the year as they finally win by more than one score.
They finally win by double digits, 41 to 21 over the New England Patriots.
And, yeah, I mean, I feel like there's some people that want to poke holes into every single win that the Texans have.
And it's like, well, you didn't win 57 to zero.
And you got the penalties and you turn the ball over.
and yeah, they lost a fumble.
I'm sorry, they didn't lose a fumble,
but it was the turnover as far as the interceptions,
and you did get gifted some turnovers
by the New England Patriots,
but you took advantage of those.
And that's just basically,
the margin for error so thin
in an NFL game,
even when you're facing a team
that is taping together their offensive lines,
starting a rookie quarterback for his very first game.
I mean, he still was a number three overall pick,
and he still looked pretty decent.
243 yards, three touchdowns,
a couple of people.
picks.
I mean, the couple of those were both of those.
One was an overthrow and then one was
tipped at the line of scrimmage and just went up in the air.
Which I still, there are some people that
when it's a tipped interception,
well, you know, I'm not going to put that on the quarterback.
No, it's the NFL.
Guys are getting our coach to get their hands up.
That's something you have to be prepared for,
something you need to be aware of.
Now, if it tips off the wide receiver's hands
and then goes into the defender's hands,
that's a different story altogether.
But if it gets tipped out of the line of scrimmage,
which happened to C.J. Stroud earlier this year,
and then it goes into the other defense's hands,
you got to be better.
You got to not make that throw.
You got to be aware of what's going on
and where the defensive linemen are,
and that's just part of being a quarterback in the NFL.
But a couple of picks for Drake May,
still overall made some nice throws,
and C.J. Stroud just continues to impress.
It was only 192 yards for him.
He had the three touchdowns.
He had the one pick,
but the run game with Joe Mixen, Damien Pierce back.
That's what really made it nice,
was you get both of those guys back in this game.
Overall as a team, 28 carries 192 yards on the ground.
6.9 yards per carry, couple of touchdowns,
and a 50-plus yard run by both Damian Pierce and Joe Mixon.
It's nice to have that running game back.
That's also something I think that is a factor of the poor performances
or lackluster performances.
I wouldn't call it poor performances,
but maybe just not up to their full potential
with the Texans in the last several games.
Is that we like Cam Acres.
I like Cam Acres.
I like Dario Gunboale.
But they're not Damien Pierce at first.
They're not Damien Pierce, firstly,
secondly, certainly not anywhere close
to what Joe Mixon has provided.
Who so far in a couple of games now
has answered the question we were all kind of asking
over the offseason.
If he's so good, why are the Cincinnati
bingles getting rid of him.
If he's so good, why is he coming over here?
Why is he getting traded?
Does he still have some gas left in the tank?
Well, a couple games into this year, the answer is a resounding yes.
Well, two full games and then a third.
And one of those games, he was on a snap count.
And the other game, he got hurt, tried to come back and then left the game again,
and then was out for a few weeks.
So if that run game is going to be what it is, if this Texan team is at their full potential,
I'm not saying they're the best team in the NFL or the best team in the AFC,
but there's certainly no reason to be scared of anybody.
There's certainly no reason to say,
you know what,
I don't know if the Texans can win this week.
They've got Green Bay, who's been very good.
You go into Lambo.
You are three-point dogs.
Actually, that settling in at two and a half now as I pull it up on ESPN bet,
yeah, Jordan Love and Green Bay is good.
Yeah, they got a good defense, but you're going to feel like you got a shot.
you're going to run the ball with Joe Mixing
C.J. Stroud's going to make plays
and it just feels like
everything offensively
a little bit more in harmony,
in step with each other,
when you can have a run game that has some teeth
that the defense is going to have to account for.
When Joe Mixon, when 28 is back there,
defenses need to be aware of what's going on.
And then that opens things up for C.J. Stroud.
That opens things up for Bobby Sloick
and the way that he's going to call play.
So huge.
I mean, just a huge loss suffered early in the season.
And hopefully Joe Mixen with that snap count that he's been on,
clearly they wanted to kind of work him in,
but also work some Damien Pierce,
lighten the workload,
not have the Belkow, week one, 30 carry load that he had against the Colts
to open up the season.
And that's the plan.
So far, so good.
Yes, it was against New England Patriots.
You could almost call it like a dress rehearsal.
there's bad, but you were, like I said,
you're only six and a half point favorites in that game.
It's not like you were supposed to win by 20.
Nobody's supposed to win by 20 in the NFL.
Goodness knows,
the last time they had to spread that big.
So it was an impressive win.
Yes, they got some gifts as far as the turnovers,
but you could say they also forced those,
playing well defensively,
flying all over the place,
doing just enough, and then that offense and that run game,
I just, it just feels like,
it makes the team feel that much more,
I don't even say unstoppable, but just effective offensively,
if they're able to have the run game with Joe Mixen,
and then you got CJ Stroud there and all the weapons.
Nico Collins is sorely missed, but Stefan Diggs, he stepped up.
He did his thing, as we figured, Dalton Schultz, only got four catches,
but he had eight targets, so it kind of went the way that we were thinking.
Some talk about Xavier Hutchinson and how he was going to fit in,
but it went more to Dalton Schultz and Tank Dell and Stefan Diggs,
splitting up those targets rather than just Nico Collins,
I mean, rather than just Xavier Hutchinson,
stepping into the Nico Collins roll.
Nine targets for Dell, seven for Diggs,
eight for Dalton Schultz,
three for Joe Mixon.
Sounds about right.
And you don't want to be in a scenario where you're going to have to throw more
than around 30 times, which is what C.J. Stroud did.
So everything on schedule for the Texans,
feeling good about how things went Sunday in New England.
tough test coming up. Green Bay earlier the season, or I would say, no, I guess it was always going to be a tough matchup against Green Bay. But it feels even tougher now because Jordan Love, oh, that's what it was. A few weeks in when Jordan Love had gotten hurting, hurt his knee, wasn't sure if he was going to be healthy for this game. He is. So another big matchup for the Texans, such his life in the NFL. 713-212-790. 7-1-2-790.
Martin and Angleton has been holding the longest.
And, well, I imagine Martin, you're going to give us a terrible joke.
Go ahead.
Hey, hey, last segment, y'all were talking about the F-1 race, you know, going on in Austin.
And y'all mentioned about someone Hamilton.
He couldn't get the first name.
That's Brad Hamilton.
He's also employee of the month at the All-American Burger.
And Brad serves no fries before their time.
Okay.
You waited 20 minutes to do that, Martin?
Are you embarrassed of yourself?
Oh, I wanted to talk to Martin.
Do you feel good about yourself if you wait 20 minutes to get into a sports show to talk about,
to make a horrible, horrible joke and bring a segment to a screeching halt?
I guess Martin Engleton is a, Martin in Angleton is a glutton for punishment.
because he continues to do it.
All right, I'm not even going to address that.
Let's go back to the Texans.
Yes, tough game coming up against the Green Bay Packers.
They're five-on-one right now.
Kansas City, the only undefeated team left in the AFC.
They are on a buy.
You go at Green Bay, just looking at the next couple of games, home for the Colts.
Is Joe Flacco still going to be playing for the Colts?
Are they still rolling him out there?
I mean, Anthony Richardson, I forget who it was,
who told you before the season.
that Anthony Richardson was overhyped
and everyone was talking about how the
and it was a in vogue pick
and his chic of the moment.
Oh, you know what?
I'm going to be smarter than everyone else.
People are picking the Texans because that's chalk.
I'm going to be cool and I'm going to go with the Indianapolis Colts.
Yeah, Anthony Richardson scored me a lot of fantasy points
before he ripped his shoulder up.
Yeah, his throwing shoulder.
And he wasn't a good passer before that.
So a cults are still decent.
They're three and three.
But Texans are going to win the AFC South.
And I told you before this season, people that were acting like the Colts were just, they were just trying to be cool.
They were trying to go be different, trying to go against the grain.
Texans were the rightful favorites in the AFC.
If you wanted to convince yourself and go off chalk, you could go to the Colts.
But it just didn't seem right with me.
And I wasn't necessarily thinking the Texans were going to be five and one in the first six games.
But I think that's about right.
Stan had him at 6 and 0, and I didn't think he was crazy.
Of course, the Vikings a lot better than we thought they were going to end up being with that defense just being, I mean, insanely good.
But I think preseason, I was probably thinking lost to the bills at home win at the Vikings.
So probably around there.
The tough part of the schedule is still looming for the Texans.
Talking about the, well, dolphins, if Tua gets back, we'll see.
Dolphins not looking super tough.
but Dolphins Chiefs Ravens
was supposed to be that tough run of the schedule
at the end of the year
and maybe even the Jaguars mixed in there
but Jaguars are oh my God so bad
four touchdowns dropped
by Jaguars receivers
against the Bears in London
four touchdowns
Trevor Lawrence hasn't been great
but he's also not been done any favors
the last couple years Calvin Ridley dropped a bunch of balls
for him last year as well
but as of right now the Texans
clearly the class of the AFC South and tough game coming up this week against the Green Bay Packers.
Quick break here on the Matt Thomas show without Matt Thomas with Ross coming up at 130.
We'll hear from Domingo Ryan's, hopefully some injury updates talking about what happened yesterday in New England and the matchup coming up in Green Bay.
In the meantime, you can get in in the next segment if you'd like it.
713-212-5-790. 7-13-212-5-790.
Matt Thomas returns.
on Sports Talk 790.
Really proud of all of our guys today for this win.
Started off hot, really excited about how we came out.
First quarter, came out third quarter.
Really nice job all the way across the board.
Our offense and how they ran the football to run for over 190 yards
versus a really stout defense, right?
Really impressive.
Starting with the offensive line, right?
And then give credit to our backs, right?
Having Damien, having Joe back was huge for us, huge.
live for our team. Very excited to see those guys continue to do more for us, but very pleased
with the run game and how they got after it today. Run game did get after it. Was it 28 carries,
192 yards, 6.9 average. Just good to have Joe Mixing back and it looked pretty good. Did get
run down on that 59-yard run, unfortunately, by 21 of the Patriots, but that's a
okay. It's not young Joe Mixon. Just go out there and do enough. You're not asking that guy to be like, I don't know, Derek Henry and you're going to hand him the ball 50 times and give them all those touchdowns like they're doing over there in Baltimore. But certainly a key part of the offense and good to have those guys back. And Joe Mixon just to me completely changes the dynamics of this offense, how dangerous it is, how I feel about how effective they can be. And I don't want to say unstoppable. But I mean,
one of the best offenses of football, if you ask me.
Coming into this game, I think Aaron Schatz has this DVOA rating that he does as far as football,
and they rank, and it's relative to opponents, for example, gaining 400 yards against, say,
the Minnesota Vikings isn't the same as gaining 400 yards, say, against New England Patriots.
One team has a better defense or the commanders who have a horrible defense.
Let me go with them.
So it's relative to opponents, and the Texans' offense coming into this week, ranking 24.
first.
Defense ranking third, by the way.
So a good defense.
If you can get top 10 in both, you can beat anybody on the planet.
And you got number seven.
You got Joe Mixing back.
Of course, it is going to be a big question mark of what happens with this offensive line.
Titus Howard missing last week.
He came back this week.
That was huge.
And then Laramie Tonsal going out in this game.
And unfortunately, we talked about it last week, Blake Fisher.
And to me, I don't know.
Having not watch O-line play and the all-line, all-22 of what happened this weekend,
still don't think he's NFL ready.
Still, he's a little bit green.
And that's okay.
He's a rookie.
It's week five.
He can get stronger, faster, learn things better, and he will get better in all likelihood.
But right now, if Laramie Tunsell's out and Blake Fisher is in, that's a huge loss.
Jeremy Tunsell's your best offensive lineman.
It's not even close.
Certainly post-snap.
Pre-snap, he's had his issues this year.
And I think there was at least one false start that I feel like he probably could have gotten called for this year or this last week as well.
But if you were missing Laramie Tunsell, that is going to be huge.
It's also the NFL.
They were missing a bunch of guys all the last year.
They did pretty well.
CJ Stroud is good.
But also he got banged up last year.
He missed a couple of games with the concussion.
I think he got another one.
I think he was to me showing concussion-like symptoms in that Cardinals game.
He just didn't look like himself.
he was making throws that he normally doesn't make or missing throws that he normally does not miss
so you want to keep number seven upright you can do that with the running game and you can do that with good protection
and if laramie tonsul is out who just for whatever you want to say about his practice habits about his
his contracts about not showing up for many camps and all that type of stuff i don't care because on sundays
he does a really good job of being one of the best on the planet in pass pro and that's why he is there
that's why he's getting paid the money that he's getting paid by the Houston Texans.
And if he is out, that's a huge loss for the Texans.
That's a huge loss for this protection.
And that's going to mean a lot if he's going to be missing some significant time.
So hopefully we can get an update on how long he'll be out.
I imagine it's going to be mostly vague from D'Amico Ryans.
And then we'll go and monitor practice reports as we go along and then go from there.
But it would be a big loss for the Texans going up to Green Bay.
Bay, a big matchup going up against them Packers.
Also a big loss has been Nico Collins.
You got Joe Mixing back.
Good news.
You lose Nico Collins.
Bad news.
We figured things would shore up with some of the other guys, including Tank Dell and
Stefan Diggs, who stepped up huge, each of them scoring a touchdown.
Dalton Schultz getting some mixing in there.
Unfortunately, was the one targeted and off his hands for that touchdown.
I'm going to put that probably more on CJ Stroud.
after watching it a couple times
but either way
Dalton Schultz was involved more
and the team had to step up as a whole
without Nico Collins
here's C.J. Stroud talking about that.
Yeah, for sure. I definitely think that.
I think, you know, we knew that
we needed everybody to step up
and once he did that, you know,
once everybody took on
that challenge, you know, I think we started rolling
and we didn't feel bad for ourselves
and Nico wasn't out there. We just try to
pick up the slack
and really just be there for one another
and I feel like we did that.
Yeah, there you go.
Pick up the slack, be there for one another.
We weren't getting down ourselves.
I'm glad they weren't crying in the huddle
because Nico Collins was there.
Okay, I'm kidding.
Of course, but, I mean,
Nico Collins is a huge loss.
And really coming into this season,
there were some questions,
and I was probably one of those wondering,
how much are the rains going to be taking over,
taken over with Stefan Diggs coming in?
And, of course, we're worried about him
and being a deviant.
and causing problems and just blowing up at everybody and being a locker room cancer.
So far six weeks in there, five and one and Stefan Diggs has been great.
Outside of getting a taunting penalty on the weekend for spinning the ball in the general direction of Christian Gonzalez.
Oh, no.
It was a great move he made on Christian Gonzalez.
He faked like he was going to the right.
He cut inside, ball in his hands.
Christian Gonzalez wasn't there.
Everyone taught a lot of talk pregame.
about Christian Gonzalez and being a shut down shadow corner and how he's going to lock up Stefan Diggs.
So in that moment, Stefan Diggs sort of said, all right, yeah, you're going to lock me up.
I'm going to spin the ball in your general direction.
He didn't throw the ball at him.
He didn't throw a punch at him or anything like that.
And then all of a sudden whistle 15 yards, taunting.
Terrible.
I hate that rule.
These are grown adult men.
Stefan Diggs was just spinning the football, celebrating.
That's gamesmanship.
That's just a little trash talk.
That should be allowed.
Very no fun league just by the NFL.
And they've really been putting this emphasis on this taunting stuff for the last couple of years.
And I'm sick of it.
Unless it's just something like egregious, like literally gyrating in someone's face or something like it just.
It's just too much.
I think it's called way too often.
And then you've got to cost yourself 15 yards just because one of the top athletes on the planet is excited about making a huge play.
When there was a lot of talk about that guy shutting him down, he spun the football.
He literally just spun a football.
15 yards spinning the football.
Come on.
It's ridiculous.
Somebody might get their feelings hurt.
15 yards.
I hate that.
I really hate that so much.
All right.
We got Nico Collins.
I mean, not Nico Collins.
What, Dimeke O'Reyans, not Nico Collins, coming up here on the Matt Thomas show without Matt with Ross.
So we're going to go ahead and get to that after I talk to you about something very important.
And if you heard me talk about it, it's about your health and well-being.
It's about your motivation.
It's about your libido.
It's about how you've been feeling every day.
You've been thinking about weight loss.
You've been thinking about muscle tone.
Or some of it's plateauing in workouts and you're like, how do I get to that next level?
How come I'm not feeling like I used to feel?
Could be your levels are low.
about your testosterone. You want a personalized TRT plan? It's going to be more advanced than that
basic standard therapy you get with other providers. Some people would give you a bottle and send you

131 in the PM here on Sports Talk 790.
It is the Matt Thomas show.
Without Matt Thomas, with Ross, that's me.
I am here, Matt, running into some travel snafus.
But right now I want to bring you, D'Amico Ryans,
and his post-game 6 press conference.
That your offense and your defensive line,
I used to start with your defensive line
because of your interior tackle
really kept that pocket.
Freeman was really stepping up.
They really paved away for Donnell and well
and then on the offensive side,
it looked like a lot of your runs,
beside the initial block,
they were getting into the secondary room
to help the running back out.
Did it prove out that way
looking at the coaching tape?
Overall, throughout the entire game,
both lines, as you mentioned,
and our defense line, our offensive line played really well.
Starting with the offensive line, they did exactly what we asked them to do.
They got on their guys, hat on the hat.
They were finishing at the second level.
Guys played physical.
I just really love the energy and play style from our offensive line,
and that's indicative of us running for over 190 yards
based on what our offensive line did,
and not only in the run game, but also protecting,
like they did a great job protecting,
allowing CJ to step up in the pocket
and make some nice throws,
throws the tank and digs.
So proud of our offensive line.
And then on the flip side at our defense's line, like we asked them to really attack the middle of the pocket,
starting with our interior detackles.
They did a good job of that that allowed Will to run the edge.
And Will, you know, had a career day, as everyone knows.
So proud of the work that it takes, it's not about one person.
When you have games like that, you know, with how Joe and Damien Randabal,
the credit goes to the offensive line.
How Will was able to burn the edge and get sacks.
That's the credit to the coverage and also to the interior push.
So just overall for that game, like our team played really well together.
We played a clean game, got the penalties down.
So I'm proud of our guys for that.
And just proud of the energy that we brought, you know, to that stadium,
the energy that we need to.
We had a little low in the second quarter there.
But guys, it picked it up coming out in the second half.
When we needed a play, DeNeil stepped up big time being able to get the strip sack,
and we're able to get that ball recovered there to get our offensive short field.
So proud of just us playing true complementary football.
What you think, though, in the way that Kendrick did at the fullback position.
And do you have the rest of the linemen now lobbying that want to be fullbacks?
Kendrick did a okay job while stepping in there fullback, little wrinkle for us on the offensive side.
But he did a good job with it.
a little bit in the second quarter.
Talk about how you make the adjustment,
how much it means to, I mean,
it's not going to be like probably 100,
hitting on all cylinders the whole game.
Start out great, have a love,
and then come back and be the big of strong.
You don't want the low, but it happens.
I think naturally, like human nature,
you kind of relax when you're up in a game.
You feel like you're in control.
You kind of relax naturally,
and that's just a reminder to our guy.
You can never relax,
and you can never start watching the scoreboard.
When you watch the scoreboard,
that's when you're in trouble.
I felt like that's what happened in that game.
And so a quick reminder to our guys that it doesn't matter what the scoreboard says,
like until the clock says zero, zero, and it's over.
So you keep battling, you keep finishing,
you continue to execute and play your best,
and let the scoreboard take care of itself.
You talked about Nixon being one of the best competitors that you've ever been around.
Does that, is that contagious?
Does it seem like when he's on the field,
it kind of rubs off on the rest of the team?
to the guys too.
Joe's mentality definitely rubs off on our entire team.
He wants the ball.
He as many times you've got to give it to him.
He likes doing the hard work.
He likes the grimy work.
Like he's a physical runner.
He plays the game with a passion that's just unmatched.
And that does rub off on the entire group.
It robs off on the offense line.
It rubs off on the quarterback.
It rubs off on the defense.
When you see him running people over playing physical.
so it uplifts our entire team.
What you talked about, Will Addison, earlier, he had five pressures on yesterday.
Three of those came with under 2.5 seconds.
I mean, he was getting off the ball pretty quick.
How difficult was it for him in the beginning to make that transition from standing up to playing with his hand in the dirt?
And how have you seen him get better at that over the time he's been here?
The transition from standing up to putting his hand down, and Will was,
he's done a great job of progressing
and I think he feels much more comfortable
with what we're asking him to do
just allows him to use his God-given traits,
his explosiveness, his speed, his strength.
Like he's able to use that, I think, even better
from that three-point stance
and he's showing that he's improving upon it.
The thing that was impressive about Will yesterday
was just him just working his escape.
Like he does a great job with the speed to power,
right, and moving off his tackle back into the court.
the back's lap, but the way he escaped and won on the edge yesterday, that was why he was
able to get those sacks.
De Nico is eligible to come off suspension this week.
What do you hope or what do you expect he brings to the defensive line room?
And how do you plan to integrate him into the rotation that you all have?
And De Nico is coming off the suspension.
He'll fit right in very smoothly.
He understands how we play, our style of play.
De Niko has been productive.
past rushing his league for a long time.
He had over 10 sacks last year,
so I'm expecting him to just pick up where he left off,
just come in, being disruptive,
playing the way he plays.
He plays hard, he plays relentless,
and he fits right in with our group.
Are you practiced this week?
Of course.
He's good to go?
Christian Harris, too.
You're going to ask me about Christian every week.
I'll let you know when Christian is back.
Let no practice this week for him.
I'll let you know what Christian is made.
The success.
That'd be all.
The success of the offensive line, just how far does that go with them mentally in that room to see them have success on film to be able to move some bodies?
I'm encouraged that that success really garners more success.
Like they've seen themselves do it the right way, they've seen the play style, they've seen the demeanor of how it looks.
And you see the effects of it, right, of how we were able to be successful in the run game because of their style of play.
how we're able to, CJ is able to be productive in a passing game because of their style of play.
And it'll always, it'll always start up front.
So the more and more, you know, we play with the right demeanor, the right play style, the right mindset.
We'll continue to be successful on the offensive side.
Because you guys yesterday gave up three fast plays of 46 and 30 yards.
And he won't against love that's coming out.
Two great games.
Talk about love and what you expect for me.
Going against Jordan Love this week, it'll be the best quarterback we've seen this year.
So it'll be a really, really tough matchup, a really good team.
Green Bay has done a great job this year.
Just, you know, they're explosive on offense.
And they pose a lot of challenges, not only with love, but the guys he's getting the ball to.
Adrian Reed has done a great job.
They do a great job to move him all around, whether he's getting the ball in the backfield or in the passing game.
It's just an explosive offense.
They run the ball well with Jacobs, just well-coached team.
So we have our hands full just as all week.
But it'll be a really big-time match up for us,
and I know our guys are excited about it.
At linebacker, you've played primarily Aziz and Henry.
I know you mentioned about getting Neville ready last week in case,
and then ultimately you needed him this week.
What's the confidence level in maybe a full change at linebacker of the backup guys?
Did you have to use, say, Hewitt, Hanson, maybe some of the other guys, linebacker?
I'm really proud of Neville.
And for him to step up in the game when Aziz went down,
I thought Neville played really well for us.
He was physical.
He was flying around, being disruptive.
So really proud of Neville, even on a week where he didn't get many of the reps in practice,
he went out, and he did his job and did it really well.
And with the linebacker spot, we'll see where our guys are this week with Aziz and Henry, see where they are.
but some guys have to step up in that role and be able to produce for us.
Damien was able, Damien Pierce, able to come out and produce yesterday.
What it meant for you to see the success he had?
He spoke earlier.
In fact, he's healthy and feeling good at him.
Oh, yeah.
What an exciting day for Damien.
I think everybody was fired up to see him, you know, get the big run, the explosive run.
It shows the work that Damien has put in.
It's just showing that clip there in the team meeting.
Everybody's going crazy with Damien and how physical.
that run was, right?
For him to break through the line and also to break two tackles and the speed to finish the run.
It was just, man, I'm happy for Damien and proud of him for the work that he's put in while he's been out with injury.
But he showed up and showed that he was ready to go.
And he made an outstanding play for our team and a play to help us, you know, win that game.
You went from averaging almost 12 penalties in game to the last two games you had combined 11, 11 penalties.
for like 103 yards.
What was the message the last two weeks to be able to cut down on those penalties?
Yesterday it was four for 38 yards.
With the penalties, it just comes down to every player, every coach taking ownership of it.
Really, we attacked it head-on.
Like, we don't run from any problems, so we coached it up, attacked it head-on,
you know, showed the penalties in our team meetings to show where we've had issues
and just coached them up on how to get it fixed.
I think our guys were aware of that.
They played just clean, just played a good assignment,
play with good execution and technique.
When you play with the right technique,
you can avoid penalties.
And some of the penalties are things post-snap,
where all the stuff pre-snap, post-snap,
I think those are penalties that are uncalled for that we can avoid us.
Our guys are played much better in the penalties,
and we like that to get to zero.
We're headed and we are trending in the right direction in the penalty category.
You and Nick seemed pretty intentional about what you wanted in your defensive line this year in the offseason.
How do you grade out what Rio and Foley and Tim have done this defense?
With our defensive line, I think everybody, we wanted a group that rotates,
a group that doesn't give an offensive line a break.
And I think that's what you've seen, like with Mario, Foley, Tim,
every guy that stepped in has been productive and made plays for us.
And that's what we wanted.
So we got the right guys.
We can still continue to clean up some of the things as we're rushing,
continue to rush together.
But overall, really proud of the group, proud of Rod and Nate for how they've coached those guys up really well this year.
What about the confidence in your, in the secondary?
A lot of young guys back there, injuries, other guys stepping in.
Can you just talk about how you feel about that group and how they perform?
They're proud of DeAngelo for stepping up.
We didn't have Camarie last week.
So I'm really proud of DeAngelo for stepping up.
And DeAngelo's step, he played well.
He did his job.
and the reason why he was in there, he's reliable.
He's a trustworthy guy.
He was where he's supposed to be.
Play with energy, play with fire and passion play the right way.
So proud of him.
We had a lot of young guys in our secondary team.
Stingley, Camari, Taylor.
We have a lot of young guys who are still learning, still growing.
And while they're learning and growing,
they're being productive players and making game-changing impact plays for us.
All right, there you go.
So, DeMico Ryan's speaking to the media the day after the Texans,
got the big 20-point win against New England Patriots.
So, yeah, big test coming up against Green Bay.
De Nico Autry going to practice this week as well.
That'll be a boost to the interior, which, I mean, the guys have been decent,
though, fully fought a costly.
Mario Edwards making some players over the weekend as well.
So not necessarily game changers, game wreckers,
but not necessarily their role that's necessary in this defense.
So we'll see what happens as they hopefully get healthier.
Didn't hear an update of Laramie Tunsell.
I think it's supposed to be something that's not serious as far as his ankle injury.
So that'll be huge if he's available this weekend as well.
And then going to continue to monitor things with Henry to Otoe and Concussion Protocol.
And Aziz Al-Shahir, everybody says Al-Shire.
So I'm going to go with that dealing with their injury as well.
Going to take a quick break here on the Matt Thomas show without Matt Thomas with me, Ross.
Adam Clanton scheduled to join me at 2 o'clock.
This is going to shock you folks.
Sounds like he might be a little late.
So that's fine.
You want to get on the phone line.
You want to talk with me.
You can.
713-212-5-790.
The phone number, if you'd like to get in.
7-1-3-212-5-7-90.
From H-town.
This is A-Town.
This is Houston, Texas.
This is Sports Talk 7-90.
Because right now, you're sitting light on Houston right now.
Now, back to Matt Thomas.
149 p.m. here on Sports Talk 790.
The Matt Thomas show.
Without Matt Thomas.
With Ross.
That's me.
With you until three.
Adam Clanton at two supposed to be late running is he.
I don't know why I did that.
Hey.
So Clanton's not going to be here apparently right at two.
But that's okay.
We can handle it.
You guys can get in if you'd like.
We're also just talking some Texans hearing from Domingo Ryan's.
In the last segment, phone lines open for you at 713-212-5-790.
7-13-212-5-790 is the phone number.
You can also send some tweets to at SportsRV.
We got some people talking.
I don't know why the most tweets I got during the show today is when we were talking F-1.
And well, you know what?
Scott says he's going to Austin this weekend.
So I guess we'll go ahead and hear from him.
Scott in Jersey Village,
do you have tickets to the Georgia, Texas game and or the F-1 race?
Neither, neither.
Okay, so this is how this way.
You're insane.
Why are you going to Austin this weekend?
That's what, let me tell you the story.
Okay, so a while back, my sneaky, sneaky, lovely wife told me to request these days off.
And then when I heard you and Gordy that we're going to Austin to see a punk rock band.
She said, we're going to see a punk rock man in Austin.
I said, okay.
And then I heard you and Gordy talking this morning about hotel prices.
So I called my wife.
I said, hey, babe, it's going to be expensive.
She goes, oh, don't worry about it.
I got the hotel a while back.
It is expensive, but I got it.
And so I started, I said, you know, Texas and Georgia is going to play.
And I explained her what the heck that was.
And I said, I think Eminem's going to be there too.
And she just stayed silent and said, well, we're not going to the game, Scott.
And I said, all right.
Anyway, as soon as I was with her, I did a little deducing.
That punk rock band is not playing in Austin.
Eminem is.
I'm going to see Eminem, Eminem,
Hey, you figured it out.
So Gordy and I
ruined the surprise your wife had for you.
You absolutely did.
You absolutely helped me.
You know what I feel bad.
Listen, I'm going to apologize for me.
I'm going to let her have it.
I'm not going to tell her that I know.
You're not going to spoil.
I'm going to roll with it, baby.
Okay.
You know what?
Yeah, my birthday's on a...
Yeah, so that's awesome.
You want to see Eminem.
All right.
Have a good day, Ross.
Oh, okay.
Thank you, Scott.
Appreciate it.
So there you go.
Okay.
Eminem and Sting, I think.
going to be playing. I don't know if they're playing together. I don't know what's going on in Austin.
It's just a madhouse. I was actually just kind of jokingly looking at hotels.
Because even if I go to Austin, I think I should be able to have somewhere to still got some connections over there.
Should have somewhere to lay my hat to hang my hat for a night or two.
Literally, the red roof is $400 before fees.
The Lakinta, like in round, the Lakita in Round Rock is $300 a night.
Lakeeta for 300. Come on, man. That ain't right.
Round Rock is like 45 minutes away.
I guess you can Uber down and Uber back.
But yeah, this weekend in Austin is going to be nuts.
I'm excited. I do want to try and still get tickets, but I just don't know if I'm going to be able to.
Don't make that Matt Thomas money, you know what I'm saying?
$1,300 or whatever it's going to be for a decent ticket.
Seems like a little much. Maybe the market to go down, but I don't know.
Normally anything as far as sporting event right before kickoff or right after.
prices will go down significantly unless it's just an extremely, extremely high demand affair,
which I think Georgia versus Texas at DKR in a night game.
Oh, man, I would like to go, but I don't think I'm going to be able to make it.
All right, 713, 212, 570, the phone number.
As I mentioned, you can also send tweets to at SportsRV.
Got one from The Truth Man 1313.
Remember when Gordy was begging for the Texans to take Bryce Young.
ever since then, Gordy's takes are irrelevant.
Now, hold on.
We do have to remember.
We can go to revisionist history.
But Bryce Young, I'm sure if I go back to every draft expert on the planet,
Bryce Young was the number one quarterback coming out of the draft last year.
And C.J. Stroud, of course, has far outplayed them,
which, by the way, Carolina Panthers.
What are you doing?
Why do you continue to put Andy Dalton out there?
He's like 35 years old.
You're one in five now.
If you wanted to keep Andy Dalton in the game and say, you know what,
hey, maybe we're going to try to win this NFC South and you play him for a few weeks
and he had that gangbusters win, I think, what was it over the Colts or what was that
crappy defense that they were playing when the Carolina Panthers got a win and Andy
Dalton came up and he lit it up for like 300 plus yards or whatever it was.
Yeah. Oh, no, there's the Raiders. That's right. One of those bad defenses.
It was the Raiders that the Panthers scored 36 points. Andy Dalton looks great.
Well, since then they've lost three straight. Bears' defense is good, but they only scored 10 points against them.
Falcons, that game was a complete blowout. And Andy Dalton threw a couple of picks in that one.
You're one in five now. You're not winning the NFC South. Why don't you play Bryce Young, Carolina Panthers?
But, yeah, everywhere you looked, Bryce Young was the consensus number one guy.
Now, I do believe, if memory serves, that Gordy was dumping pretty hard for Bryce Young.
But, I mean, hey, we all miss things on drive.
Nobody thought CJ Stroud was going to be this great.
It just wasn't projected that he was going to be this good, this fast.
Because things he was asked to do at Iowa State, I mean, Ohio State, you don't necessarily
get asked to do at the NFL level.
So did he have the capability to do those things?
We did not know.
Very clearly a few weeks into the season.
The answer was yes.
So, yeah, the Panthers traded up.
Oh, Panthers.
They traded up to get the 5'9 Bryce Young.
And thankfully, the Texans fell in their laps.
And there was even the story floated about the Panthers,
about the Texans possibly trading up to get the number one pick.
So the Texans seem to be in on Bryce Young as this dynamic,
number one overall caliber quarterback.
So I will say those two things
And I also say this third thing
Breiseng's career is not over
Did he get bench for Andy Dalton
In his second year?
Yes. Does that look good?
No.
But
quarterbacks can take a few years to develop.
Look no further than say
Sam Darnel, the Gino Smith,
Baker Mayfield.
All those guys were just
profoundly dismissed and we can argue
about how good those guys actually are.
Seahawks fans not happy with Gino Smith.
Baker Mayfield
It's turning the ball over a lot and not really throwing the ball deep a ton,
but he's got like 15 touchdowns.
And then Sam Donald in another conversation for another day as well.
But quarterbacks, just completely dismissing them
of this few games into their career in the case of Bryce Young,
I think he's a little foolish.
But yes, if somebody were stumping for Bryce Young
and saying he was going to be great, so far he's not,
but people get things wrong and Bryce Young was was number one on everyone's board.
All right, time for a quick break at the top of the hour here on Sports Talk 790.
My name is Ross v. Real. We got another hour to go.
Adam Clanton's going to come hang out.
You can hang out too at 713-212-5-790 if you'd like to get in.
7-13-212-5-7-90.
We'll play the win.
Will Clanton actually show up because he's got to go get some gas or something?
I don't know what his lame excuse is.
We'll figure it out when we come back here on the Matt Thomas show with
Ross, but without Matt Thomas.
Launch timers. This is
the Matt Thomas show.
201
in H-town. Welcome in
to our number three of the Matt
Thomas show without Matt Thomas. With Ross, that's me. I am here.
Connemoghvern is here. When will
Adam Clanton show up? Who knows? Your guest is just as good as mine.
In the meantime, you can hang out at 713.
212-5-790
7-13-212-5-7-90.
You can also send tweets to
at Sports RV if you'd like to get in that way.
So doing a lot of talking about,
let's see, the college football weekend that was, of course,
congratulations to the Texas Longhorns
for defeating their number one rival,
the Oklahoma Sooners,
34-3.
What a beat-down that was and how great it was.
best game I've ever been to in my life
was when they beat Oklahoma
49 to zero a couple of years ago
couldn't make it up to Dallas
94 degrees at kickoff or whatever
it was supposed to be 94 I don't know what it ended up being
that's just absurd
and a little bit too much
hopefully it'll be better weather next year
but two out of the last three
Longhorns have won't talk about them
losing four straight before that
but 713-212-5-79
of the phone number as I said
we have been talking some Texans football
Demico Ryan's speaking to the media about a half hour ago.
Apparently, as my producer has let me know, and now I have not confirmed, but I've been kind of looking around the inner webs as well.
Demico Ryan's saying Jordan Love is the best quarterback they've seen this year.
People are upset about that.
Hmm.
Interesting.
I guess, yeah, he forgot Josh Allen a couple of weeks ago.
Trevor Lawrence, no thanks.
Sam Darnel, we're good.
Caleb Williams, not yet.
And then week one was Anthony Richards.
So I don't, if Jordan Love makes a lot of crazy good throws and well, he makes a lot of bad turnover worthy plays.
So how about high praise for Domingo?
No matter who the opponent is, Domingo is going to be heaping praise on them.
He's going to talk about how great Drake May is.
It could be anybody.
They could be playing the Carolina Panthers and Andy Dalton.
He's going to talk about what great veteran quarterback he is.
That's just how Domingo Ryan's role.
So not super shocking to hear that earlier today.
And now it's the NFL Twitter.
The world is abuzz now with D'Amico Ryans and his latest statement there.
In the meantime, you are welcome to get in the phone lines.
As I said, John on the northwest side has gotten in.
What's up, John?
Hey, that was a great win for the Texans and for Texas against Oklahoma.
It was a great weekend.
My alma mater won as well.
They had some good luck out on the West Coast.
against USC and UCLA.
But I wanted to talk about the talk at the time
when people wanted to get Bryce Young
because I had some heated call-ins with Sean Salisbury
because he was one of them too that was saying,
you know, we had to trade up for Bryce.
And I was all for getting Will Anderson for the number two pick.
And then it turns out that we got, you know,
we made the trade with Arizona and then we got the extra picks.
We got Will and CJ, which was a great, great move
by Casario and we're going to benefit from that for a very, very long time.
But yeah, I never saw the potential in Bryce Young.
I watched the combine that year and the two guys that impressed me were Anthony Richardson
and the CJ.
They threw the best ball, I thought, and Bryce didn't even participate.
He just, I don't know, you know, all these other guys just, you know, they just looked, you know, bigger and their statutes a lot.
bigger. It just wasn't a good look. But I was never in on that. And I was glad how, I mean,
I'm just really glad, obviously, how things turned out. And I, you know, all of Houston is for that
matter, too. But I just wanted to weigh in on it. But yeah, I did have some heat at call-ins about
that because I was one of them that, I never did buy into the Bryce Young thing. And, you know,
you're right. He might turn it around a bit, but he won't be a CJ or some of these other guys. He
just won't. And, you know, we'll move on from there. All right. Thanks a lot, John. Appreciate
you getting in. Thank you for making the call. Yeah. At time,
we were like, you had to go pretty far back about quarterbacks taking number two overall
in basically in any draft. There wasn't a good history. And Bryce Young was the number one guy.
He is the Heisman winner. And I did have reservations about how short he was. I wasn't somebody
that person was like, Bryce Young, oh my God, generational prospect. He got to get him. You got to do whatever.
it takes to trade up and get Bryce Young
if you don't get him you're going to miss out on this
draft. I wasn't like that. I was like
sure I guess Bryce Young is the best.
He's a dynamic playmaker
makes some good throws but I was
worried about his height. I was worried about
his long-term durability. He wasn't like a
can't-miss prospect and I think while most people did
have him number one on their boards
it also wasn't like they had to him
as this can't miss no doubt
about a prospect. Some people did
because you know you get
a million people talking
about a quarterback prospect, you're going to get a million different opinions.
Some of them are going to be more like you, John, and say, you know what, I was never sold on
Bryce Young.
That's an, I just don't get it.
Why is he touted so highly?
Well, he was a Heisman winner.
He was basically swept every quarterback award in 2021, and a lot of people had him number
one on his board.
C.J. Stroud, as I said, we talked about the Georgia game.
Remember, if he can play like he did in that Georgia game,
he should be the number one overall pick.
But there was a lot of tape on C.J. Stroud,
and a lot of that tape was up and down.
And as I said, not sure that he could handle
what would be asked of him in an NFL offense
and being at the line of scrimmage and diagnosing coverages
and getting the ball out quickly and making the occasional play with his feet,
which he didn't do a whole lot at Ohio State.
So he's been doing all of it, though.
He's checked every box.
He's fantastic.
He's been spectacular.
He is, to me, it's getting pretty close to inarguable, top five quarterback in the NFL.
And then we can go from there.
So, yeah, the Texas lookout, I think so.
If you believe the stories that they tried to trade up to get the number one overall pick.
But it doesn't matter.
C.J. Stroud is here in Houston, Texas.
And, well, he's winning games.
got the Texans 5-1. Adam Clinton, you made it.
You know, that's why I can't give
Nick Casario full
credit. Like, that's my
GM because of that exact
thing, because I heard you, as I was
exiting through the disgusting traffic
on the West Loop, this city is just
abysmal. Well,
as traffic is. And I'm like... With every big city.
I'm like, yeah, but we work
in the exact worst part of it.
We are in the devil's
butt crack of Houston traffic.
They're doing five years of construction out here.
What?
What the hell has it accomplished?
Like, I'm seeing, like, I'm starting to see the final steps.
You build a bunch of two-lane ramps?
I don't know.
You're stupid.
So anyway, um...
As long as the politicians are getting their kickbacks.
Anyways.
And they are.
If the rumors are true that he was trying to trade up to get Bryce Young...
I just can't.
I'm glad he wasn't successful.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Hey, traded for Joe Mixon.
Got Stefan Dix here, drafted Tankdale,
drafted Nico Collins.
Yep.
So, I mean, I think overall,
the balance sheet, Sting has been good.
Stingley did not, but see, a lot of these
moves didn't look great at first.
Yes. I mean, Joe Mixen looked like
you get the consolation prize
because Sequin, you couldn't get him in the building
or you let him leave or whatever.
Yeah. I still maintain that
Seekwon wanted to play here. Like, that was his number
one choice. It seemed like a thing, but he got
a lot of money. Well, he's doing great for the Eagles.
He's from Pennsylvania. I mean, well, he went to Penn State,
but like, he's, I, I,
was very strong.
He wanted,
because he wanted to play
with C.J. Stroud.
And it all goes back to that.
Like,
if you got C.J.
Stroud because he fell in your lap,
I can't give you 100% credit.
Well,
Bill Anderson's here.
He's been doing good.
DeNeil Hunter's here.
But did DiMico?
He's been great.
Did Dimeco want that trade
for Will Anderson on draft?
I feel like,
I feel like they were going to take
Will Anderson
and there was,
Hannah Basin was like,
you're not leaving the top of this draft
without a quarterback.
And they're like, fine,
okay, we'll get C.J.
Stroud.
He's not knowing anything.
that would be my guess. I have it on good
authority. Very, very good authority.
Okay. How things are done over there
at this point versus even like
a couple years ago. And
let's just say that
like if this
thing pans out the way we hope it will,
he's a real franchise quarterback
and then of course Will Anderson continues to do
and again, it was Drake May
it was a terrible offensive line, all that good stuff
yesterday, but sacks or sacks or sacks.
If this pans out and the Texans
win like multiple Super Bowls,
There should be a 30 for 30 on that draft.
You know, just the top of it.
Like, okay, number two and number three, basically, you know,
because we talk about the Hershal Walker draft all the time,
how that was like the worst trade in NFL history.
Well, guess what?
Nick Casario was also involved in what could be the worst trade in NFL history.
Only the Texans won it.
Because Deshaun Watson, woof!
They're continuing Kevin Stefansky.
Like, are you still going to go with Deshaunson?
Yeah.
Yeah, I have to because they have $230 million committed to him.
Guaranteed.
Oh, well.
That's pretty sad when James Winston's going to vastly outplay you if he got in there.
DeShon Watson is terrible.
I don't know what is going on over there with the Cleveland Browns.
James Winston also seems just genuinely more of a likable person.
Yeah, well, he's, he's weird.
But like in a fun way.
I'll take his weird over Deshawn's weird.
Yeah.
Well, exactly.
Take your digits elsewhere, Deshaun.
Deshaunson wants it is weird.
Yeah.
You and your, what is it called?
Baby, the bouncing baby pose or whatever he likes?
If you found out that Deshawn went to a ditty freakoff,
would even surprise you at all.
I don't think it would either.
No, no, I don't think so.
Jeez.
What a year, 2024 man.
Happy baby yoga pose.
That's what it was.
Oh, that's right.
The yoga move.
He actually said that.
No, I know it is.
No, it wasn't one of the reports.
I don't need the pictures.
I don't know that.
It's time for a break.
Especially on the I-heart.
My God, it took two minutes to get off the rails with you, Klan.
Good job.
You're welcome.
That's almost a record, but it's not actually close to a record.
All right, that's Adam Clanton.
We're trying to talk some Texans and maybe some happy baby pose and Deshawn Watson.
We're with you until 3 o'clock.
He's hanging out.
You want to get in.
You can.
713-1-2-5-790.
It's the Matt Thomas show without Matt Thomas, but with Ross.
This is the Matt Thomas show.
Matt Thomas.
On Sports Talk 790.
You know what I did?
Hello.
You know what I did, Ross?
What'd you do?
I selected burnt orange out of my wardrobe just for you today.
Is that burnt orange?
I mean, it's in the family.
It's brownish.
I'm wearing burn orange.
Well, you're wearing a Texas shirt.
Yes, I am.
It was either this.
Hook him horns.
Or a Columbia fishing shirt with the longhorn on the back.
Number one team in the land.
Big test this weekend.
Looking forward to it.
How do you feel going into that?
Quietly
What is the word?
Not exactly confident, but ain't scared.
You know, I expect them to win a close game, and if they lose, I'm not going to be shocked.
I have, there are a lot of parallels, I think, between this game and say the Texans game in Green Bay.
Okay.
But except for the Texans have already played this game, it was in Minnesota.
If they're frauds.
Okay. They're going to be put on fraud alert.
Or at least, you know, you look at it, well, okay, they finally played a good team and look what happened.
You can have that said coming out of this game. Or they rise to the occasion.
They're at home. They're not in Minnesota like the Texans were that day.
Yeah. I mean, they went, okay, they lost. I mean, they beat Michigan. They crushed Michigan in the big house.
But does that say more about Michigan? Michigan did lose to Washington.
Right. And they lost a lot.
USC did Michigan
Yeah
I know
College to me is much
more of a roller coaster
in this regard
The NFL
If you have a franchise
quarterback which the Texans do
No matter what Matt Thomas will tell you
Franchise quarterback Maddie
It's just not even a question anymore
Then you're
You're automatically in an
echelon above
No matter what
Now what that tier is
You can say
You know okay Pat Mahomes is all by himself
Then Lamar Jackson
and, you know,
CJ and guys like that.
But college is just, there's so much turnover.
I mean, Michigan's a prime example of that.
Yeah.
Well, they did lose a lot,
but also there with the reigning national champs.
Yeah, but that doesn't mean anything to me.
Did USC lose again?
I think they did.
But yeah.
Like, if you're, okay,
the chiefs are the reigning Super Bowl champ,
back to back, Super Bowl champs.
But you also know that Pat Mahomes
is going to be their quarterback this year and next year
and next year and next year.
Michigan's the defending champs but their quarterback is on the
for the Vikings well yeah so it's changed a little bit but that's not the whole team
the quarterback doesn't do everything especially as when you're talking about
going up against the Alabama's the Georgia's and the
well they ended up being Washington in the playoffs but they beat Alabama in the
playoff as well and Alabama well they lost to Vandy but that's also another
example Vandy lost to Georgia State that's why I'm saying
there's such an emotional this is why you know people ask me like
why are you more, because I realize I think, at least in Texas, I really do feel like I'm in the minority in that I like pro better than college. Most people, it's the other way.
You certainly like the college game better, right?
I follow the NFL more widely. My favorite team is the Texas Longhorns, but I'm not watching, for example, I didn't watch Oregon, Ohio State.
I was actually because I was at the boys to men concert, but maybe I would have watched it otherwise.
Oh, bearing the lead.
Well, I am.
Well, we're sitting here talking about sports and you're not talking about going to boys to men?
Yeah. Who were they with?
It was boys to men. Oh, the opener was
112. Oh. You know, room
112, where the players dwell.
Yes, next. And then it was
Robin Thick. Oh, was he playing his one song?
Yeah, it actually has two hits, I think.
Oh, well, it's a lost without you.
Yeah, but the one where Emily read it
was naked in the whole movie, or the whole video?
Well, yes, in the uncut version of the video.
Why would you watch the cut version if she's naked in it?
I think we, I think,
I think years ago we might have accidentally watched that on like work computers, which is probably a bad idea.
That song reminds me when I walked through the doors here because it had just been released and I had a lot.
There's a lot going on in my personal life at that time.
And yeah, I was a newly minted I heart employee and that song was on the radio every five seconds.
So I always I always think of that song or when I think of right here that song.
I think of coming into not this building.
Of course.
Well, that was Robin Thicks Closer.
Yeah.
Of course.
You know, he could still sing a little bit.
One 12.
Not so much.
Microphones.
Yeah, look, here's his other hit.
You remember this song?
Low, Lost Without You.
How does it feel?
Yeah, he sounds like he's trying to be Justin Timberlake.
You know, he talked about losing his father.
Alan?
Alan Thick.
He looks just like it, by the way.
A younger version.
Yeah.
It's funny how that works.
Yeah.
It's like, okay, you could fade this stuff.
Robin Thick was, it got the people going, actually.
112 was, their microphones were turned way down low.
It was like 80% backing track and maybe like 20% of them singing.
And then I was actually shocked.
Boys to Men still got it.
Oh, no, they do.
I was surprised.
So I saw, you'll never believe this bill.
I saw them probably about five years ago at Toyota Center.
Uh-huh.
Paula Abdul opened.
Oh, my God.
And she still had it.
How is she doing it?
She looks great.
Really?
You know, she choreographed Janet Jackson's music videos?
That kind of thing?
She was a Laker girl originally.
Yes.
And she can't sing, but she can move.
Okay.
But her songs are catchy, so it doesn't matter.
Then boys to men, but it wasn't, did they have all four?
No, because the deep voice guy got multiple sclerosis, I think.
But I thought he rejoined them recently.
You did?
No, he wasn't there.
Okay.
No, I was just doing that part by myself in the stance.
Oh, baby, yeah.
You're talking about you fellows.
Yeah.
So they were the middle act, and then, of course, the headliner was new kids on the block.
Oh, God.
What?
How are they doing?
They're great.
They're thriving.
Not this weekend, though.
Their Patriots got killed.
I've actually never seen this at the pavilion.
they didn't even bother opening up the lawn
for boys to men.
Oh, so that's where it was.
But the whole rest of the place was packed.
Yeah.
And the people where I was singing at the top of my, honestly,
I got bullied into going by my sister.
She really wanted to go and wanted me to get tickets from here,
up here at work.
And so I did.
Boy, you talk about a wide range of the last two shows
that you and I have been to at that venue.
So you went to go see Boys to Men.
My last show was a couple weekends ago, maybe three.
Marilyn Manson.
Same thing.
It's 90s music.
Totally same.
He caught another case since I've seen him.
He has?
My God.
What is he doing?
I don't.
I don't.
Oh, Lord.
I know a little too much.
I don't think he.
I don't, I think it's different.
They're all lying every one of them?
No.
No, I don't, like, I don't think these, like, I think the Deshawn Watson accusers.
I think some of them, probably for real.
I don't think all 27 of them are lying.
And then all of them and some of the other ones, it might be a mind-grab.
I don't know.
That's between them and Tony Busby.
You're not kidding into Marilyn Manson's.
cases right now. We just aren't. But anyways, it was a good job. You can bump back with some
Maryland, Connor, by the way, like, because I don't get to do that on my show anymore. I, um, I liked
going to a show where I didn't feel old. I didn't feel old at that show, which is good. Everybody's
the same age. Everybody's around the same age. I was probably maybe even trending younger than most
everybody there. What's the one show and we again, I'll take Stevie Wonder off the table because you
and I will disagree about that for all time. You can be wrong. What's the one show and that wasn't
about his voice though. I'm not saying that. Anyways, yes. What's the one show you've been to where it might
even been a pretty big name artist and you were disappointed in the quality of their performance.
I wasn't necessarily disappointed because he was 92 years old, but Tony Bennett wasn't singing
very well. Did you go a smart financial? Yes. I think we were at that show together. Oh, really?
Were you there when he went into, the encore came on? Like in 2016, it was a long time ago?
He sang a song and then he started to wander off stage and then he wandered back and he was
looked lost out there. Sounds like a Joe Biden press conference. Everybody was like, well,
everybody was like, oh, do we clap? Is he coming back? What's
happening and then he sang he came back
for like a second encore but he sang the song
he sang for the first encore he was extremely
confused well he's no longer with us
and maybe that's why he yeah
who was pushing him out there for this money
I almost felt bad but I also didn't pay for those tickets
he sounded great when I saw him so I don't think it was the same show
he said okay he sounded pretty good yeah you couldn't believe
that he's that old for a 92 year old human being
all right now let me do mine would most 90% of people
are dead by then I went and saw Lionel Richie as the
headliner okay he was great
Great. He's always great. He still got it. Still can move, too. It's not just his voice.
His opening act was Mariah Carey.
Oh, my goodness. She was horrific.
Really?
Just brutally bad. Her voice.
Well, that's what happened to Whitney at the end.
Maybe she was having a bad, yeah. Honestly, I actually got into, accidentally got into a YouTube wormhole of Whitney Houston.
And you could tell even from a couple years difference how she was kind of losing it.
Don't blame it on Bobby either. She was starting that way before Bobby came around.
Well, I'm going to blame it a little bit on Bobby.
Yeah, but she was doing cocaine before she was signed to the record contract.
Yeah, well, she was a jersey girl.
And she also said crack is whack.
She did.
Pound for pound, the greatest vocalist ever, my name.
I will go with, I'm alternate.
It's her or Aretha, one or two.
Yeah, Aretha's good, but come on, man, Whitney?
Whitney's great.
Her national anthem at the Super Bowl, that's like the pre-recorded one.
Yeah, it was great.
Still recorded it.
Still her voice.
No, she's, it's different.
Aretha's a little more soulful.
It depends on what mood them.
Well, she's the queen of soul, so I should hope so.
Yeah.
So whichever one I'm listening to at the moment, I'm like, she's the best of all time.
And it's segments like these, why we will never be given a show together.
Jesus, what happened?
Why did you do this?
No, we break on time on this show.
No, we break in time on my show.
We're doing the front line matchup, Texans v. Texans D-line and front seven versus Packers O line.
I'll tell you what.
Adam Clinton is breaking it down next.
When we come back.
Something that you said that Domeko said that I want to get into.
It's very intriguing to me.
Okay.
Yeah.
We'll do that.
When we come back here on the Matt Thomas show without Matt Thomas with Ross, you want to get in.
You can.
We're not going to talk any music anymore.
Or are we?
713-212-5-790.
7-13-212-5-790.
Hey, it's Craig Atherman.
4-3.
Yes!
Listen to the home of the Rockets on your smart speaker.
Just ask.
Hey, Google.
Play Sports Talk 790 on I-Hart Radio.
This is so.
Good.
Is it?
And I don't want you.
Oh, right.
All right.
Come on.
This is the old Smackdown theme, which you're very familiar with as a wrestling fan.
I have no idea what you're talking about.
Smackdown.
Didn't catch it.
Anyways, Marilyn Manson, this is in celebration of his latest case.
Here on, please, turn this off.
Connor, if he's going to be singing, my God.
Adam Klan is here.
I'm growling.
Yeah, whisper growling.
This is very bizarre.
I turn this up, Connor.
No, turn it down.
This is the best part right here.
7.13, 212,1, 2, 5790.
There's a time to discriminate.
Connor, this is not funny.
Every mother.
Oh, that's in you.
See, this is the edited version.
Oh, Lord.
All right.
Well, you know what, if you want to hear
crappy 90s alt-rock,
go ahead into the buzz.
I think this was like...
94-5-the-buzz.
We're on HD-2000s.
All right.
Thanks, God.
Anyways.
7-1-3-212-5-790
the phone number if you'd like to get in.
You know what? No, I'm going to leave.
Okay, so here's the deal.
So here's the deal.
Domeko Ryan's, did he really say that?
I need to hear this.
Did he really say that Jordan Love, this upcoming week's quarterback opponent,
is the best one that Texans would have seen?
Going against Jordan Love, this week,
it'll be the best quarterback we've seen this year.
So it'll be a really, really tough matchup, a really good team.
Green Bay has done a great job this year.
Just, you know, they're explosive on offense.
And they pose a lot of challenges.
Not only with love, but the guys he's getting the ball to,
Jaydon Reed has done a great job.
They do a great job to move him all around,
where he's getting the ball in the backfield or in the passing game.
It's just an explosive offense.
They run the ball well with Jacobs, just well-coached team.
So we have our hands full.
Just as all week.
But it'll be a really big time match up for us,
and I know our guys are excited about him.
All right.
I'm not a conspiracy guy.
Okay.
But that is brilliant trolling.
And I don't happen to think that D'Amico was doing that intentionally.
But if you listen to the first 10 seconds of what,
five seconds of what he said there.
Yes.
He insults two division opponents, a top five quarterback,
and Caleb Williams.
in one phrase. Does he insult him?
Well, do you think that Jordan love
I think he's better than Caleb Williams right now.
Yeah. He's better than Trevor Lawrence right now.
But Caleb Williams doesn't think that. That's what I'm saying. He insulted him.
But you're talking about two division quarterbacks, Anthony Richardson and Sunshine.
Anthony Richardson, not good.
Well, he's just not, he's injury from. He was available, but he's been for Joe Flacco.
We don't know if he's good or not.
I don't think he's good at all. You don't think he's good at all?
Not good at all. Okay, saying he's not good at all is probably not accurate.
But I don't think he's going to be consistently good in the NFL, or at least he isn't right now.
I think the inaccuracy issues are short to medium inaccuracy.
You need third and seven.
They're flying a bunch of blitzers and zero coverage at you.
You've got to make an accurate throw under duress.
I don't know that he can do that consistent.
And everybody here in Houston feels absolutely no sorry at all for anything Colts quarterback related
because they got Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning.
It's true, you guys.
We talked about it on this show.
Everybody was Anthony Richardson hype before the season
And the Colts were actually a hot pick for some people to pick to win the AFC South
And I just wasn't seeing it.
I just wasn't.
I brought that up on the show and Wex did the thing where if he hasn't heard it before,
he just laughs dismissively.
I'm like, well, trust me, there are people that think the Colts are going to win the division this year.
They're stupid.
I'm not agreeing with them.
Wrong.
Well, it's not over.
It's not over.
Oh, it's over.
Three or five, they're three and three.
Unless the Texans, like, unless C.J. Stroud has a catastrophic injury.
Right.
Don't even put that in the universe.
I just don't see it.
I mean, I know that...
No, I don't see it either, but the schedules are tough, but the schedule for the Texans is tough mainly.
Yeah, the Texan schedule gets tougher in the second half.
But I would say, of course, the one that popped in my mind was Josh Allen.
But when the Texans played the Buffalo Bills, he was nine for 30 with 131 yards.
Okay, now let me ask you a question.
They did that to him.
They did that to him.
Look at that tough.
Well, they did that.
Their defense did that to him.
And then conversely, is Sam Darnold an example of what you just got done saying two segments ago?
where you go somewhere else, you have better coaching,
and you actually get the most out of your talent.
Because far be it for me to think that the Jets are a class organization
as far as how they run things.
They're not. They're not.
I mean, Aaron Rogers, being old doesn't help,
but he's finding that out right now.
I don't know why.
I mean, he's Aaron Rogers.
You would think he would be better, but maybe he's just old.
But he's not.
He's too old.
He's too old.
Sam Donald is making a legit case right now.
Hey, you should probably not think about inserting McCart.
automatically next year
JJ is our quarterback. He's making
an argument against that.
He is.
A decent enough argument, but I mean,
I don't know. This defense
that held Josh Allen to that terrible
line got, I mean,
he carved them. He carved them.
Sam Donald's been good.
I hate it because
it's the only blemish on their record.
And, you know,
listen, this is no joke.
One of those touchdowns was like a one-played
drive because they were turned the ball over. I'd have to go back and think about that game.
The muff punt, all that stuff.
Darnold wasn't good the last time they played, but they won because their defense is just
out of this world. And that's why I think the Vikings could very well win the Super Bowl.
It ain't going to be because of Sam Darnold. It's going to because of how ridiculous
that defense is. Well, you go to Green Bay and you win that game. That's obviously huge for a number
of reasons, not the least of which is then you come home for the cults. Maybe it's Joe Flacco.
Maybe it's Anthony Richardson's noodle.
I don't know.
But say you win that game,
the Jets game on Halloween
suddenly looks a lot more winnable than it did at the beginning of the season.
I would agree.
I mean, they've already fired their coach.
They suck, man.
And their defense is good, but they said...
You know CJ's going to want to get revenge for last year.
That's where he got concussed.
They've had some injuries.
Well, let's hope he doesn't get concussed, and nobody rips a knee on that awful turf up there.
But let's just say that the Texans are, what,
8 and 1 going into a home
matchup on Sunday night football with the
Lions? That is sexy.
Lions, well, losing
Aiden Hutchison is huge. Because before that happened, I was
like ready to crown them like Super Bowl
favorites to me.
It's weird. Because at the beginning of the season,
we would have said without hesitation,
probably 49ers,
Lions 1 in 1A, those are your
favorites to go. Definitely, that's the conference championship
and then those are one of your favorites to go to the Super Bowl.
now I don't know if either one of those teams is going to go.
His Christian McCaffery is still dead.
I know he was my fantasy pick.
Well, now Jordan Mason is dead.
He'd been good too.
But now it's, was it, Isaac Garindo they're rolling out there?
Who's actually had a long run.
But anyways, they just seem to manufacture him over there in San Francisco.
But yeah, the lines, we'll see how much the impact.
I mean, it is a huge impact.
Of course, with Aden Hutchinson, if they can keep it going, I still have, I mean, the dominant offensive line, the past catching weapons.
They have argued with the best tied into the game.
They're running back?
Top five receiver, two great running backs.
I mean, it was, and by the way, I don't know if I liked the beatdown in Dallas more or Jerry Jones afterward.
Well, certainly the by week isn't magical.
Yeah, we know.
You're still going to suck two weeks from now, Jerry.
And you just invested how much money in Dak Prescott, who I was.
Poor Cowboys.
It couldn't happen to a better fan base.
47 and 9?
Yeah, it was, wow.
I mean.
Unfortunately.
And by the way, there's a million different things we could point to.
And then after all of those, you get to the stadium design.
What were they...
It's there.
Every year.
Like put some blinds up, Jerry.
Something.
Your quarterback is going to pick.
I saw this on Twitter, so I'm not sure if it's true.
Is it true?
They didn't make it...
They wanted to do north to south of the way you're supposed to do it, correct?
Yeah, because they went east to west.
Because you could...
That was the only way you could see it.
from the freeway, and I guess he wants the...
That's the most Jerry thing ever.
We're going to go with something that is marketing-wise good, football bad.
That's his ownership in a nutshell.
He's so lucky that he had Jimmy Johnson running the show for the first several seasons.
And by the way, the Vikings giving them the farm for Herschel Walker, that is it.
The longer you get away from the mid-90s, three out of four championships and what comprised
them, basically, the more you see that Jerry is...
He's the Vince McMahon of the NFL, a great marketer.
He doesn't have that many cases.
Well, no, no.
He's just one.
Personnel-wise, he's not the best.
Yeah.
Okay.
So anyways, Jordan Love.
Best quarterback the Texans have faced this year.
D'emico Ryan says yes.
I'll put him second, I think, behind Allen.
Yeah, because Josh Allen had a bad day.
Alan looked completely lost.
But that was partly...
The Texas bottled him up.
That was the Texas defense, right.
I mean, yeah.
Khalil Shakir was out.
I mean, is that what we're going to say?
That's why it happened?
No, the Texans were great that.
Stefan Diggs was out too because he was playing for the other team.
That was his best receiver.
He just happened to play for the Texans now.
Unfortunate.
I mean, we had a guy that works in Buffalo on the air there, the morning show in Buffalo.
I think it's the flagship station.
And he was saying, like, Stefan Diggs, he's the man.
That's going to be a huge.
The fact that Shakir or Shahir was his number one,
receiver going into that game and they lost him
and then you know did
Dick's not that great yeah who else
was it was it uh which one of those
which one of those former is it Marquez Valdez
Scantling maybe not juju smith schuster
when did we start getting nothing but hyphenated receiver names
I'm getting confused it's very confusing whatever
whichever one they have but anyways
I'll put Josh Allen one Jordan Love 2 and you know what
they completely destroyed dismantled
anything you want to use
nine for 30 for 13131 yards
Green Bay is no joke to play there though.
But the Texans have gone there when it's like, I don't know,
approximately 40 degrees lower temperatures than they're going to be playing in and they won.
So should be a fun one.
All right.
Time for a quick break here on the Matt Thomas show without Matt Thomas,
with Ross, with Adam Clanton hanging out, appreciate him.
Connemogh is here as well and you can get in if you'd like at 713.
2125790.
Final segment next after this short break.
More Matt Thomas.
Now. On Sports Talk 790.
A few minutes left to go here on the Matt Thomas show.
Without Matt Thomas, but with Ross, and with Adam Clinton hanging out.
I've never seen a guy that criticizes another show for not working as much as he does.
Miss so many of his shows.
It's just hilarious.
You know, Matt wanted to be here.
You run into some traveling.
But Rhode Island.
traveling Rhode Island why did you have to do it like that I love Rhode Island I think I might be able to get that state
He's he was traveling back and he ran into some snafus and some
Is Rhode Island is is Rhode Island seriously like the size of Houston? I don't think it's quite that bad
But I think it's pretty small I mean on most maps relatively speaking it's smaller than your thumbnail
Uh-huh and I just that's just incredible that you could probably drive the
and they get two senators. Can we bump them down to one?
I mean, come on.
But you could drive the equivalent of like Katie to the Galleria,
and that's the length of the state.
I just feel very strongly that's probably about right.
I mean, I've never done it. I've never actually measured it myself.
1,000 square miles.
Population 1 million.
Can't get this anywhere else.
This is ridiculous.
All right, anyways.
So Houston, Texas.
So it went over the cult.
Houston has three times the population of a whole state.
That is correct.
Wow.
That's amazing.
If you go to Metro, what is it?
Six times.
Yeah, we have encountered the Woodlands and the medical center and Tady and Brinham or whatever the hell else they're counting of these days.
I can't keep track.
Unbelievable.
Patriots, 41, 21, I mean, Texans 41, 21, over the Patriots.
What did you think of Drake May?
Good?
Like, to be, to do what he did from a number standpoint, and believe me, I don't think he looked good.
Decent.
that's what I'm saying. Against that pass rush.
I mean, Daniel Hunter actually like jumped on top of him for a strip sack fumble or whatever.
Okay. I mean, seriously.
First of all, you're missing three linemen. Your sinner just got signed off the scrap heat that week.
It's your first start. You're going up against one of the, by pressure rate, one of the best pass rushes is in NFL, in the NFL.
And your pass catchers are DeMario Douglas, Kishon Booty, Hunter Henry, Kendrick Bourne.
like, for all those things considered, I thought he did decent.
And this is signs that you have had either a bad start to your season.
You drafted a poor team or things have not gone your way.
Or all three in the case of me and fantasy.
A sneaky good pickup might be, who's the receiver you just mentioned?
He's a rookie, right?
DeMario.
DeMario Douglas is not a rookie.
Second year?
Is it Jalen Polk?
Maybe.
Jalen Polk has been dropping everything.
DeMario Douglas had a huge.
day yesterday, most of which was as a result of that bomb.
It is his second year, yes.
Might be a sneaky pickup with Drake May.
Even before all these injuries, they had probably the worst offensive line,
and they probably have the worst pass catching core in football.
It's not a good team.
And I don't know, like, how long until they start calling for Gerard Mayo's head?
I know it's like six games in.
Hopefully not that soon.
But the roster is terrible.
I know.
I know.
They can get the number one overall pick again.
What was it? Jared Carabas was talking about how they've gone cheap.
Who?
The Red Sox honk.
Oh, God. I forgot that guy.
He existed. Why are you paying attention to what he says?
I've had him muted for ages.
I think somebody retweeted him onto my timeline.
I don't follow him, but I saw him.
He's a New England sports fan.
He's not just socks only.
He's a troll engagement farmer.
He's muted.
Well, yes.
But it was fun watching him troll all the Yankees fans when the Astros
walked off the Yankees without two days on them.
The Yankees or Dodgers are probably winning the
World Series. How does that make you feel? I'm not
so certain on that. I know
that the Dodgers won 9-0
nothing the other night, but
it's baseball, anything can happen.
You can be as hopeful as you'd like.
It's going to be the absolute
disaster scenario here in Houston. It's going to be
Yankees Dodgers World Series. That's what I feel like.
You really think those are the two that are going to go?
Yeah, you don't? I think the Yankees can screw this up.
It's Carlos Redell in a game one.
He sucks. He absolutely.
sucks. He thinks he's good still, but he's not.
You know he did in his last playoff start?
I think he lasted three and two thirds.
Okay. Got shalacked after talking trash on the mound in the first inning.
Well, go guardians. And go Mets.
I just feel like I'm going to be disappointed on that front.
Yeah, you would like to have better competition against those two as an obstacle to get to the grand stage.
but the Astros bleep the bed, so we don't have that.
Alex Bregman's going to be gone.
You don't have a first baseman.
You say Cacucci, see you later.
Justin Verlander's arm has fallen off.
How much did that...
Just doing fantastic.
How much did that post over the weekend just solidify it for you?
I saw a lot of people like, oh, he's definitely gone after that.
Did Alex Breggman say something?
Hey, he thanked Houston for the season.
Again?
Yeah.
The season's been over for like two weeks, Alex.
Yeah.
I don't remember exactly.
Is he trying to send us subliminal messages?
I don't know.
I saw what you're talking about, but I thought that was somebody reposting it from weeks ago.
I didn't know.
It was fresh.
No, because his original post was on.
Yeah, thank you, Houston.
This one was talking about...
Thank you for the support.
Yeah.
Okay, so he's going.
Or not.
I don't know.
Like, I just, I don't think it ain't over until it's over.
It's over.
Jose Al-Tuve has some pull in this organization.
Well, he's trying to...
to pull as much as he can.
I'll tell you who it is over for.
You already signed your deal.
You can say all you want.
You're under contract.
I'll tell you who it is over for, like the entire coaching staff.
What's that about?
Oh, Gary Pettis?
See you later.
Yeah, but they had like some...
We didn't even mention, actually, I was supposed to mention that.
We were supposed to have a Gary Pettus in Memorial.
Thank you for windmilling.
Were you going to play boys to men?
Yes.
I, like, it does feel like the winds of change could be blowing, or maybe it's just a coincidence.
I mean, isn't Gary Pettis in his 60s?
67, I think.
Yeah.
Let him retire.
He's battled through cancer.
But I don't know if this was his decision.
That's what I'm saying.
I don't know if it was either.
But I mean, it's the guy who waves people home.
Just study the outfield arms and then we'll go from there.
Sometimes he puts a stop sign up.
Yeah, sometimes.
Yeah.
And then when he does, and then whoever the next guy is, people will complain about him.
People love to Gary Pettis, but the last couple of years, there's been a lot of Astros' Twitter.
Like, oh, my, what a terrible send.
Oh, my.
God, how could he hold him up there?
I'm sitting there like at the game where you can see the angles.
Like that was the easiest stay ever.
Well, what's the opposite of the send?
The easiest don't send ever.
The easiest don't sit.
Well, did he not put up a stop sign when Jeremy Pena came home on that,
actually it was like a...
On that run scored in the Detroit game?
Yeah.
No, Pena said that he told him to go.
Okay.
I asked him the question, actually.
Really?
In the post game.
Anyways, we've got to get out.
All right.
Thank you for showing up, Clinton.
Well, I'm sorry. I was late. I had to get gas.
Okay. I wasn't surprised.
All right. Thank you, Adam Planned for showing up.
Thanks to Chris Gordy for hanging out of the first hour.
Thank all of you for listening, calling, tweeting, being involved in the show.
I do appreciate it.
Thanks to Connor McGovern, producing doing a great job as he always does.
Matt Thomas back tomorrow, but don't go anywhere coming up.
It's not only one at him. It's two of them.
They call it the A team, and they're next on Sports Talk 790.
