Starting point is 00:00:00 This is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross. 10-1 in H-town. Good morning, and welcome to a Monday edition of the Matt Thomas Show with Ross. This is Sports Talk 790. I mean, I don't know. what a day for Houston sports teams my goodness um look the Rockets played was one regular as a game so I'm not going to put them on the same level as a Texans game that's got one of 17 but that was startling how I know many of you that our Texans fans
Starting point is 00:00:54 were thinking all right here comes the start of the offseason let's start getting into draft conversation. Let's figure out if Nick Casero is going to be able to keep his job. We've got to figure out what they're going to do in terms of offensive line fixes, wide receiver, maybe additional depth, certainly getting a new running back in there. I mean, all
Starting point is 00:01:13 sorts of things. It's Davis Mills. You can't win with Davis Mills. But you did. Truly unbelievable comeback yesterday for the Houston Texans.
Starting point is 00:01:30 Good morning, everybody. Four minutes past 10 o'clock. It is a Matt Thomas show with Ross. Ross is out this week. I am battling a cold. Not that I can't... I mean, I still look amazing. Okay.
Starting point is 00:01:42 What did you say? It's okay. Taking your word for it? You should. I wanted to stay back in my Kingwood Studios because I want to make sure that you were not going to catch anything. So I'll be back tomorrow. But, yeah, it is...
Starting point is 00:01:53 When you're going back and forth between 75-degree temperatures and 40, it kind of messes with your mind and brain a little bit. bits in your body. So yeah, a little bit of the cold. I feel good. Again, look spectacular and ready to visit with you today up until 2 o'clock. All right, so back to the Texans for a second. Can I just flat out tell you how the hell of that happened? I mean, here's the reality of my day. So I'm watching a game on my phone and I'm doing my pregame responsibilities for the Rockets against the Bucks yesterday in Milwaukee. You know, it's a 2.30 start. So obviously, I'm going to call the game, but I have my phone in front of me,
Starting point is 00:02:32 so during timeouts of the Rockets game, I can see what's going on. And every time I would check, the Texas were making some sort of comeback. And the bills are in the bills. The Jaguars are going three and out, or Trevor Lawrence is doing something stupid. By the way, I can say this. And look, it's not meant to be mean, because I'm a really friendly person, generally speaking, unless you get sideways with me and then I hate you more than life itself.
Starting point is 00:02:56 and Trevor Lawrence, I don't know if he's a good person, I don't know if he's a bad person, I don't know if he's the sweetest kid on earth. He has made a lot of money in the National Football League in his young NFL life, and he sucks. He really sucks. And, I mean, you can go through the rookie issues, the sophomore slumps, the third year of this film on you,
Starting point is 00:03:25 or you're just not very good. imagine being the chosen one and I'm talking about before we ever stepped on the field at Clemson he was the chosen one one-one it was no if-answered buts he was going to be one-dash-one for whomever team got him and Jacksonville got him and he sucks
Starting point is 00:03:49 that whole team sucks that is now look the Texans have to make plays to win games. So it's not that elementary as well. Did the Texans win the game or did the Jaguars lose it? It can't be that elementary. You have to take two to tango on that.
Starting point is 00:04:10 But with that being said, the Jaguars choked that game away. I don't know what they were doing. And again, I didn't see every single intimate detail of it, but it looked like they got Uber conservative. The Texans' pass rush started to really get in the, way of Trevor Lawrence and then you got Davis Mills who just even though he probably would start for maybe I don't know four teams max in the NFL was calm it was cool and never let him saw you sweat and he delivered he was significantly better than the
Starting point is 00:04:49 quarterback on the other side of the field and I mean significantly better so if I'm Jacksonville, I am flipping out. And I'm glad you brought that up because on my 4-U tab, and look 4-U is sometimes can be dangerous. But the 4-U tab
Starting point is 00:05:09 this morning had a bunch of Jacksonville stuff on there for media people. And we don't do a whole lot of playing other people's soundbites and interviews and commentary from other cities. But we're going to today because Jacksonville is flipping
Starting point is 00:05:25 out. And the number one thing you will hear during the course of the conversation when we play these Tom bites over the show will be one, how did this happen? You had control of this thing. You were going to be right in the midst of an AMC playoff picture because you were going to beat the Texans. You were going to kick the Texans out of the playoffs. There's no hope, no wishes, no dreams, no aspirations of them making a wild card. Instead, you give a victory to a team in your own division you give up a three touchdown lead and you are doing it against of all people davis mills that's the overriding sentiment you will hear today from the people we play from the audio in jacksonville is you did this against davis freaking mills so we'll play some of that um needless to say
Starting point is 00:06:17 Jacksonville is wigging out. If we were in Jacksonville doing Jaguars Radio, we'd be flipping out. I mean, I know it's been tough being a Texans fan. I get that. It's been harder probably to be a Jaguars fan because you had the number one overall pick. You have spent money in free agency.
Starting point is 00:06:41 You've got a good running back in Trevis, Santian. You've got a defensive line that features Armstead and Hines Allen. I mean, you've tried. You've tried to be good. You've got to kicker to kick 69-yard field goals with his eyes closed. And yet you choked away the game. Again, credit to the Texans.
Starting point is 00:07:05 They deserve it. Even, you know what, if teams give you an opportunity, open a window for you, you got to go through it. And the Texans did. But damn, the Jacksonville. suck and Trevor Lawrence sucks and I hate to use the word suck and if Trevor Lawrence walked in here right now and he'd say did you say I sucked I would say yes he would then beat me to a pulp and that's fine but at least I was consistent when someone comes to me and says Matt you said this about me you would say yes I did
Starting point is 00:07:34 Trevor Lawrence absolutely is pathetic maybe a swall human being but he is not a good NFL quarterback and if I was in Jacksonville today I'd be like I'm done I'm finished because not only did you have a chance to beat a division in division opponent bury the texans you've now given them life doesn't mean the texans are a favor to make the playoffs but it hurts your chances significantly so that's jaguar's issue other things to get to on the radio show today uh the rockets came back from double digits they were down i think 14 to milwaukee bucks kevin durant awesome alpren shangoon fantastic And Reed Shepard, another,
Starting point is 00:08:18 Reed Shepard had a great road trip. Played really well in San Antonio, played well in Memphis, and was lights out yesterday for the Rockets in Milwaukee against the Bucks. We will get to that on the conversation piece today. Also, college football this weekend, Texas Tech, you did your school proud,
Starting point is 00:08:35 sold out the stadium, got crazy, and you beat up on a BYU team that showed basically a little life in that game against the Red Raiders. A&M beats Missouri. I.U. holds on for Dear Life against Penn State. We've got betting scandals in baseball with two pitchers that basically were throwing pitches literally. We'll get to that, but we have to get to how Jacksonville handled everything yesterday.
Starting point is 00:09:00 We want you to join us today on an open line Monday. Again, I'm with you till 2 o'clock. Cole Thompson is going to come in and help the cause between 11 o'clock and till 1. We'll hear from Nemeco, Ryan's at 1115. We'll have to tell the truth at 1230. And believe or not, today will be half-pollison. Paul Taglibu and Half Lenny Wilkins, the former commissioner passing away yesterday, as to the former longtime NBA coach.
Starting point is 00:09:21 10.13 of the Matt Thomas show with Ross. It's 17 of the Matt Thomas show with Ross. Ross is off this week. Our buddy, Cole Thompson, is going to hang out with me for a couple of hours. 11 o'clock until 1. We have to tell the truth at 1230. Today we're going to push it back to 1230 because D'Amico is going to talk at 1115. Don't want to interrupt that.
Starting point is 00:09:45 Also, we'll have, believe it or not, today at 150, but with Ross gone, it's me and you a little bit more than normal. So if you want to come on in and say hello and discuss what was a startling event. Yesterday, NRG Stadium 713-212-5-7-90. Now, you know, Iron Eagle does the game on CBS. He had him on the show on Friday. He was awesome. Mark Van der Meer does Texans radio, and obviously Jacksonville has their radio announcer as well.
Starting point is 00:10:12 I was able to find on the Twitter streets an alternate play-by-play feed of a couple of plays in the game. First and foremost, I don't know who this person is, but he was very happy that Derek Stingley came up on interception. Here was his call on the alternate broadcast feed. Duce in them. Throw. Picked! Oh! Stingley one-hands it!
Starting point is 00:10:36 Stingley one-hands it! Picked! Picked! picked! Oh my God! Oh my God! Stingley! That was not Gus Johnson, by the way. We'll be playing some Gus before the show was over with for sure, but that whoever that person, I don't even know who that person is. I mean, that was pretty intense. And he had, did he have the cowbell with him when he was in the interception? I guess the cowbell was his partner.
Starting point is 00:11:11 All right, let's go to the other call of this alternate broadcast feed. Here's Davis Mills rushing for the touchdown to give the Texans a lead. Mills shotgun takes a snap. Looking, looking. He's going to run the ball. He's running the ball. Mills dies. Touchdown!
Starting point is 00:11:30 Touchdown! Touchdown! Davis Mills runs it in. Davis Mills runs it in. Touchdown! Touchdown! Touchdown! Touchdown! Touchdown! Davis Mills! Run them in! Oh! Touchdown!
Starting point is 00:11:49 Touchdown! I need a cigarette after that, don't you? Oh, my God! Oh, he was jumping too. Oh, I wish I could see the video. Oh, man. Yeah, I have no idea who that is, and he obviously loves his Texans. we all want to love our teams like that dude loves his Texans I don't know if he's going to use this for an audition tape to try to get some games I don't know what's going to work out particularly well for him but again the 4 U tab was working in overtime for me yesterday as I was flying back from Milwaukee
Starting point is 00:12:29 so I just happen to see that and thought you know what I put it up there and let you all now we have the Gus Johnson call of the Indiana game against Penn State let me play that real quick so jonathan find that i sent that to you too and let me know when that's ready um so indiana penn state are playing saturday and indiana was a huge favorite penn state was playing at home remember they got an interim coach they let james franklin go and they were leading quite a bit of the game and indiana went on this long drive a couple minutes left to go in the game all right and here is gus johnson this is national number one college football announcer on Fox.
Starting point is 00:13:09 Gus Johnson calling the touchdown. It was a great play. It was a great catch. I don't know if you can figure it out, but obviously Gus thought it was. Here was the call that was the winning touchdown for Indiana on Saturday. Mendoza. In trouble!
Starting point is 00:13:25 It's out! Dexter! Wow! A lot of cool play! Unbelievable! Give him the hazard. did you hear him go full falsetto on that he sounded like mickey mouse jonathan i'm 53 years old i can't go to falsetto if i tried gus lost it that wasn't the same catch though that was nuts that was an insane catch remember it only takes one foot to stay in bounds in college
Starting point is 00:13:59 it was one of the catches of the year for sure but damn gus he went cray cray on that now some people thought it was over the top some people thought it was manufactured you know gus has been doing this for 30 years this way so it's not out of the ordinary but man play that again listen to his falsetto gus is older than i am how did he get up that high into his octave mendoza in trouble is out that's the world oh my cool play Unbelievable Give him the high of the trophy Now if I didn't have my cold
Starting point is 00:14:47 I could try it But I would probably crack my voice On the show And it wouldn't sound particularly great Man Gus Johnson One in a million A really good dude I've had a chance to him several times over the years
Starting point is 00:14:58 Really nice guy But that was That was way, way over the top I mean dude he went into a different act Let's talk to Adam and Tom Ball at 1024, the Matt Thomas Show at Ross. Adam, good morning to you. Good morning, Matt. It is a great morning to be a Texan fan.
Starting point is 00:15:18 That's all I got to say. With money meals, with balls of steel, that's money meals. That's his new name. That's what we're going to name them. And that's the name I got for him, at least. But you know what? I just hope that this sparks something understant. CJ Stroud that we've never seen before.
Starting point is 00:15:38 Plus, I didn't see him on the sideline. He should have been the number one person over there giving Mills dabs or giving him a high five or I didn't see him, but that's all right. I'll save that for another day. But all I got to say is I just hope this sparks, you know, some fire under us and does what it needs to do. And, I mean, the defense did his job, too. I mean, you've got to give credit to the defense as well.
Starting point is 00:16:03 They, they, they, they, you know, we, and we've had this up and down bipolar season. It's been, it's just been crazy. But, you know, I'm just, I'm just proud of the team as a whole. We, we, we, you know, we fought to the end. And that's what, that's what really matters. And, I mean, to see that, to say that we, you know, don't have that playoff pedigree, I think we do. And to waste a Super Bowl caliber defense, I don't want to do that. I don't, it's going to be sad.
Starting point is 00:16:33 If we do that, and if this just, if this, if a backup needs to go in and show C.J. Stroud, just, you know, just what it takes and some heart. And, you know, maybe he'll start playing better. I hope so, but that's my, you know, that's my take. And, you know, y'all are doing a great job, you and Jonathan, and you all have a great day. Thank you very much. Well, look, it's not that C.J. wasn't trying his best. C.J. got hurt. C.J. was rushing for a first down when he got his head hit the ground. I mean, C. CJ was having a good season, not an incredible season, and I'm not going to take the small sample size of Davis Mills, but who, by the way, threw an interception on the very first drive of the game.
Starting point is 00:17:14 I mean, Davis Mills was excellent, but this team is going to make a playoff run if they're going to get there because of CJ Stroud, not because of Davis Mills. To the caller's point, the defense has been phenomenal, five sacks yesterday. constant hurries. I mean, the complicit percentage yesterday for Trevor Lawrence was terrible.
Starting point is 00:17:37 The interception turned into be a touchdown at the very end was all. I mean, the stingly I and T, the fumble recovery, the sack. I mean, you're right. There are a lot of people in this world thinking that maybe the Texans defense is Super Bowl worthy and that you're going to hate to see all this success go for nothing if they can't make the playoffs. It is going to take a chore to make the playoffs. I said this last week before they got the victory over Jacksonville. I think they have to go seven and two.
Starting point is 00:18:07 Well, you got one down. You've got to go six and two. I really think you do because I think the NFC, the AFC is a logjam. I do believe that Baltimore is on the come and the Pittsburgh is on the way down. I think that division is only going to carry one playoff team. I think that there's a really strong chance. You could get three teams in the playoffs out of the AFC West. So you need to start rooting for teams.
Starting point is 00:18:30 that are playing those AFC West teams. And you've got to hope that Jacksonville continues as implosion. What is Jacksonville going to do? Is Jacksonville going to just roll up in a feudal position and be done? Or are they going to say, man, we are highly embarrassed the way that we played. They barely beat Las Vegas. The only reason why they beat Las Vegas two weeks ago was because the Raiders couldn't score on a two-point conversion at the end of overtime.
Starting point is 00:18:56 And you gaggle up a three-touchdown lead in this game in Houston. so I don't I'm not buying on the Jags I think they're pretenders so there is a window that's open but it's going to take a lot of other teams you need the Colts to start regressing I think the AFC South is no longer in play because look you are still looking at being what four and a half games out you'd have to bait you'd have to
Starting point is 00:19:25 no doubt sweep the Colts and hope other things to happen for the Colts to go down the Colts could have very well lost that game to Atlanta yesterday in Berlin. But Jonathan Taylor's like, yeah, I'm going to take over the game. And he did so. So the window is open.
Starting point is 00:19:40 The window would have been completely shut and closed if it had lost the game yesterday. So credit to the guys wearing the blue and white yesterday to keep the season alive. 713-212-5-790. If you want to chime into the conversation, 7-13-212-5-7-90. It's a Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Starting point is 00:19:58 We've got D'emico Ryan's 1115 to tell the truth. to 1230. My buddy, Cold Times is going to come hang on with me for a couple hours as well. And we're going to play some more audio from pissed off people in Jacksonville. That's up next. 1029 on 790. All right. It's the Matt Tomu's show with Ross in Sports Talk 790.
Starting point is 00:20:15 Ross is off this week. I'm about a little bit of a cold. Again, I still look amazing. But I'm going to fight through this because you know what? That's what we do as warriors here in the show. We fight through. We go through the pain. and there's a lot of pain in Jacksonville today.
Starting point is 00:20:33 Two audio samples for you first. First, by the way, if you want to join us, come on in and be a part of the program at 713-212-5-7-90. 7-13-212-5-7-90. The more you talk, the more I don't have to talk, the more I'll leave you a little more longer leash. That's how we do on these things here. 7-1-3-212-5-7-90. So there is a host in Jacksonville. I think they call him Hacker.
Starting point is 00:21:00 I don't know for sure, but again, it showed up on my 4U tab. His name is Ryan Green of 1010 XL Radio. His Twitter handle is Hacker, or not Hannel, but that's what he says on his line there. And he hosts the postgame show on the Jaguars station. And here was Hacker yesterday talking to his audience on his ex account before he went on the air. It would be very easy for me to come on right now and just completely flip out about what transpired in Houston, Texas. You have every right. It would be very easy.
Starting point is 00:21:37 Here's what I'm going to tell you. And I'm going to be calm and I'm going to say it in a monotone or in a tone of voice where I don't have to completely freak at what happened. The Jaguars were up three touchdowns against Davis Mills. in the fourth quarter of a division game that would have buried their division rival and would have put the Jaguars in a situation where analytics tell you they would make the playoffs at a 70% clip at 6 and 3. And they lost to Davis Mills by being outscored 26 to nothing in the fourth quarter, getting physically whipped on the offensive line and the defensive line.
Starting point is 00:22:25 I've lived in Jacksonville, Florida, the entire existence of the Jaguars. I've been lucky enough to be on sports radio stations in this market dating back to August of 2002, and I was here on opening day of 1010 XL in April of 2007. This is not hyperbole. This is not overstating this. If you can tell me a more disheartening regular season loss than what we just saw this afternoon, I'm all ears, Leon, because I don't think one exists. that man's wearing it in any today
Starting point is 00:22:58 I thought about calling him to see if he wants to come on the show but I don't need to pour salt in that man's wounds right yeah he seems a little fluster a little unhinged he's like he's like tweeted like seven times he tweeted from his garage he tweeted from his car you don't know what to do remember
Starting point is 00:23:18 that's a one trick town you know what I mean I mean that's all they have of the jaguar Oh, that's true. That's true. You're right, yeah. So think about that, Jonathan, if you, if the one team in your town, who is a plus 500 record, who is competing for an AFC wildcard spot, who has a chance to make the postseason, when you've got nothing else to do except talk about Jacksonville Dolphins basketball, right? In Florida football, which has been a disaster, they fired their coach. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:44 What else are you going to talk about? I mean, good God. All right. So that's example number one. Now, with it being a one pro sports town, the TV guys do the same thing. This is Dan Hicken on Action Sports Jaguars. This is about a minute 45, and I kept trying to, he went five minutes on this. I didn't want to play the whole five minutes for you, but I figured the first 145 would pretty much back up what I told you before. They're embarrassed.
Starting point is 00:24:13 They lost. They're super embarrassed. They lost to Davis Mills. Here he is again, Dan Hicken. 29 to 10 in the fourth quarter with the Jags leading against the Houston Texans. 29 to 10 and you're 6 and 3 with 15 minutes to go. And the Texans are 3 and 6. And you have done what you needed to do, what you're supposed to do against a backup quarterback.
Starting point is 00:24:40 29 to 10 with 14 minutes to go. 29 to 10 with 13 minutes to go. 29 to 10, 12, 16 to go. Texans get a touchdown in a two point. Hang on a second. Jaguars go three and out. Texans come back and score again. Jags get another three and out. Texans drive it about 97 yards for the game winner. Jags get the ball back. Just get it to the 50. Give Cam Little a shot. Can't even do that. What a freaking disgrace. What a disgrace. What an inept performance by a national football league team allegedly. They're allegedly
Starting point is 00:25:17 a national football league team. They blew a three touchdown lead in the fourth quarter of an NFL game. I don't have it in front of me. I can't imagine that ever happening before with our Jacksonville Jaguars. My mind is
Starting point is 00:25:33 blank right now because I was so sure that the Jags were going to win this game and get to six and three and show the world that yes, we are a playoff team potentially. That team, that team that we just watched against a backup quarterback who threw for 2.92. He threw for 292, the backup quarterback. They're missing two offensive linemen. We can't get to the
Starting point is 00:25:57 quarterback. Our starting offensive line played DeNeal Hunter at four sacks. Four sacks. Not a very good team. We have Travis E.T.N. We have Parker Washington. I know we were missing some guys. I know, that's enough. John, did you hear the guy that was working on him at the TV station, screaming the background? That's why I started laughing. The production over there is upset as well. Man, when you got a production guy getting mad at you and interrupting your beat? Oh, Lordy.
Starting point is 00:26:31 They're wearing it today in J-Ville. They are wearing it. Do you see what your football team did, Houston? they destroyed the soul of a northern florida city now they still have a better record than you do but man they could have kicked the texans of the curb and said sainara later and they just were beaten up the texans earlier the interception they drop ball on the compound return the kick return for this i mean everything was like this was setting up to be a funeral procession for the Texans on Sunday and you let money mills come back no pass rush says jacksville tv guy denial
Starting point is 00:27:24 hunter is tasting a breath of Trevor Lawrence with four sacks so when i tell you it's tough being a Houston sports fan it is but some people have it just as bad and guess who has it bad today Jacksonville now I've never been to Jacksonville before my life if any of you want to tell me what it's like I'd be more than willing to hear it now I can stereotype it it's northern Florida it's got a nice beaute community but it's also got a fair number of what we would like to call quote-unquote white trash people nothing wrong with white trash but it's a mixed bag over there up in north florida i mean they play one game overseas intentionally every year because they don't want to fill up they can't fill the stadium up eight times a year for sure
Starting point is 00:28:22 shot con has always considered you know playing international games as a opportunity to make some more money because it can't draw flies in jacksville but hell if i was jacksville i wouldn't be spending that money either you have trevor freaking lawrence who cannot finish a game off they were looking for any sort of offense in the fourth quarter and couldn't get nothing they set up for field goals and yes their field goal kicker kicks a boatload of long field goals cam little but that was just graceful credit to the texans credit to the texans defense credit for davis mills for not giving up but damn jacksonville sucks they i mean do you hear that in their voice the guy the tv guy went to the
Starting point is 00:29:09 we card in our card you're not supposed to do that in journalism you know we's and r's you don't play for the team now if you're employed by the team that's one thing you can do it then i don't do it very often because i even know i'm employed by the rockets i don't do that but i occasionally do because i live and die with what they do on the court we're going to get to the bucks in a minute here but that's tv dude that's tv guy that's the guy that should be doing the five six and ten hey this happened this happened he went to the we in our Houston you broke Jacksonville the Texans broke the Jaguars how's that flight home by the way two hours and ten minutes or whatever it is man I wouldn't be serving them squat on the on the plane
Starting point is 00:30:02 I'd be given them those nasty snacks that Shmina gives her people. They don't deserve a full meal after that. You are up. 29 to 10. I mean, little kicks a field goal. Actually, it's not, yeah, 2910. ATN scores the touchdown. They go for the two point.
Starting point is 00:30:27 Don't get it. It's 29 to 10 with a minute 33 left to go in the third quarter. And you can't finish it. For shame. 1044 on the Matt Thomas Show of Ross. You guys want to chime in. How does it feel, Houston, Texas, that you broke another city? 10.51 on Sports Talk 790.
Starting point is 00:31:00 Oh, my gosh. I gotta be honest with y'all for just a minute and everybody feels this about their own individual city about all our teams get screwed we've had terrible losses it's been the worst can I just celebrate this a little bit more with Jacksonville I mean by the way my Twitter follower Brian sends me
Starting point is 00:31:23 the email or a tweet about Jacksonville I've never been it's one of the few cities I've been to not been to major cities in North America it says Jacksonville is fine nothing special great golf courses however but fans who have no clue that their team is chronically bad most years I don't know every time I watch them
Starting point is 00:31:42 there's always a bunch of empty seats there I'm gonna take this because guess what we're gonna have some more heartache in our town it's just a matter you get three teams here you get three major and you got a major college team in this town so you're gonna have heartbreak I'm gonna live through it I'm gonna enjoy this
Starting point is 00:31:59 because Lord knows I still will never get over the Buffalo Bill's wildcard loss. I won't get over the divisional loss. I won't get over Staggerly. I mean, there's so much stuff. I got so much pent-up disappointment in my life for my sports teams. Damien Liller beating the Rockets in a playoff series on a buzzer-beat of deep three-pointer. Jesse Orozco striking on Kevin Bass in the 86 Nationally Championship Series.
Starting point is 00:32:30 You know what? I think I need a therapist. It wouldn't be about my wife or my kids or my finances or my job. It would be about the sports turmoil in my life. My Houston Cougars losing two national championship games in my lifetime in the last 10 seconds of both games. Yeah, I need therapy. I don't know why this took me so long to figure this out. Okay.
Starting point is 00:33:00 Think about it, Jonathan I flew to San Antonio to Watson in person I went to sick afterwards right Yeah, I got sick after that And then And then when I was a kid I cried like a baby
Starting point is 00:33:15 Cried like a baby when Cougars lost in five-sama jama Now my Astros have won two World Series I'm very happy about that But one of them's tarnished Unfortunately So at least I got that going for me I do have my two rocket championships.
Starting point is 00:33:32 I'm very happy about that. But hell, that was 30 years ago, and that was 60 pounds ago for me. Yeah, maybe closer to 70. Oh, man, I was fat. You're a little twig now. Yeah, you got some. I know, I got to get some meat on these bones. I know.
Starting point is 00:33:49 I think I gained five pounds on a trip, by the way. That's good. That's good. Healthy weight. I need to. All right. 713, 212-790. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:59 I need a sports therapist. Because you know what I'm doing right now, ladies gentlemen? I am taking delight in Jacksonville's misery. Yeah, I'm doing it. Because Lord knows, if you've been a Texans fan, you've got the other end of that. Many a time.
Starting point is 00:34:20 So, you know what, Texas fan? No need to feel apologetic about what your team did. Because they played really well. Mills, Schultz. uh nico collins let's see how the run game did yesterday um okay 20 you know what mark 63 chub 47 i mean it's not spectacular i mean chub only carried it five times
Starting point is 00:34:49 mark's got to the end zone after being hurt earlier in the game so i mean that wasn't terrible but davis mills through for two 92 and after that one interception he threw on the very first drive. You're thinking, oh, hell, this is going to suck. He was okay. He was calm. He didn't panic. And he outperformed the number one overall pick
Starting point is 00:35:10 in the draft a few years ago. So, celebrate this, Houston, because unfortunately it's going to maybe come back and haunt us down the road. And again, the Texans have got a lot of work to do. If they're going to make this playoff chase, I think it's going to have to take 10 wins. I really do. I think there are too many teams.
Starting point is 00:35:30 You've got Chargers, you've got Denver, you've got the Cheaps. Now, one of those three teams has to win the division. But you've got those two teams fighting for playoff spots. You got Pittsburgh who looked terrible outside against Chargers. They're still in the thick of things. They're in the first place in the AMC North, but you got Baltimore playing better now. Lamar Jackson is there.
Starting point is 00:35:50 In the east, you got Buffalo, and you've got New England. And then you've got the Colts. You know, right now dominating the AMC South. The question is, do the Jaguars fold, or do they, you know, rally from what they just did yesterday and make a playoff run? Texans got to get to 10 wins. It's going to take a 7-and-2 ending. They're right now one-seventh-a-way to get in there. You've got to go 6-2 the rest of the way.
Starting point is 00:36:17 All right, Cole Thompson is going to come by and help the cause for a couple of hours, and we'll get his thoughts on what he saw yesterday. 7-1-3-212-5-79. If you were impressed with the Rockets performance against the Bucks yesterday. You should be. Kevin Durant was magical. Alperin Chingoon had one of the best full court 94-foot dribble drive, spins, turns, 360 parallel-up moves you'll have seen in a long period of time. That was cool watching that.
Starting point is 00:36:42 As the Rockets go to Milwaukee and beat the Bucks, it was their first win against a team above 500, which was kind of cool. We'll get to all that, and we will get to D'Amico Ryan, speaking the media, in a little less than 20 minutes from now. 713-212-5-790, 7-1-3. 3212-5-7-90. This is the Matt Thomas show with Ross. 1101 on Sports Talk 790.
Starting point is 00:37:12 It is the Matt Thomas show with Ross. Ross of the week off. Call Thompson. We call him. We don't call you Mr. Texas because that's what I am. I'm Mr. Texas. Please don't ever call me that. We're going to call you the effortless, tireless 24-hour work.
Starting point is 00:37:29 man, you are all over the place. You are covering the SEC, you do the Texan stuff, you're producing our shows, you're filling in for us. God bless you. How the hell are you? I never sleep. I'm good. You know, it's getting ready for week 12 of the SEC, fun week, Texas. What are you going to do?
Starting point is 00:37:49 This is the opportunity for you to kind of man on up and say, look, we've arrived. We're right back in this hunt for a college football playoff bid, or you can get completely embarrassed by Georgia. Texans win last night yesterday. Now, I'm going to be completely honest, dude. It feels more so to me, like this showed that Jacksonville wasn't a playoff team than the Texans were right back in the hot. You know, it's funny because I brought that up at the 10 o'clock hour.
Starting point is 00:38:12 I said, you know, sometimes we like to go to the, well, was it more the Texans won the game or Jacksonville lost it? And I don't mean to be that simplistic guy, but we played some audio from the Jacksonville side of things last hour. And there's an overrunning thought is, the hell do you allow your team to be up three touchdowns against Davis Mills and you lose the game? I think it's more than that. Dude, just like think about yesterday just in general around the NFL. So Jacksonville, 19 point lead. They find a way to give it up to Davis Mills. They let him
Starting point is 00:38:47 bend them over and just say, who's your daddy? That was it. Yeah. Miami. They lose emphatically the week before. To a tongue of I low is supposed to get benched. Buffalo beats up on Kansas City. Miami wins the football game. Chicago, down by 10 points to the New York Giants, they find a way to give it on up. Baltimore, no love, nothing really going for them at the start of the year, the worst defense in the NFL. They outscore the Minnesota Vikings with a high profile passing attack, 2719. New Orleans, one of the worst teams in the NFL, Carolina, one of the hottest teams in the NFL. Yeah, Carolina loses 17-7. Like, yesterday was just one of those days in the world of the NFL where
Starting point is 00:39:31 yeah, certainly you could say, oh, any given Sunday, somebody can wait. No, dude, it was just a lot of teams sucked. A lot of teams that you thought were actually pretty good show that they had their faults to them. And for me, the standpoint is it never was the fact that the Texans were a good team. Like the Texans, yeah, they have some
Starting point is 00:39:47 pieces, but this more so showed what were the faults of the Jacksonville Jaguars on, yeah, you can make whatever move you want. You still have Trevor Lawrence as your starting quarterback. You still can't pressure the quarterback. and making fundamental mistakes. You shoot yourself on the foot consistently.
Starting point is 00:40:02 Your offensive line is a turnstile of misery. You have too many drop balls. Your defense can't get out of its own way. And you let Davis-Frikin Mills running 26-0-comeback against you in the fourth quarter. I mean, it wasn't even with the final 15 minutes. It was with 12 minutes left. You get outscored 26 to nothing and have three straight three-in-outs. Dude, that says more about where you are as a team than where the Texans are.
Starting point is 00:40:25 Yeah. And what you did is you allowed the Texans to think they've got a glimmer hope. Now, again, they've got to win some games against a much better competition. They've not done that this year. What is their – what's their most quality win of the entire season? San Francisco, probably, if not Baltimore. I mean, but Baltimore, you've got to remember, dude, there's like eight defensive starters were out and Cooper Rush. So, yeah, San Francisco, though.
Starting point is 00:40:45 So by far, it's a Niners game, and they were missing some defensive players. But that's – we've got to get past that. If you're going to make the playoffs, I said this last week, you go to 7-2, and that includes probably – well, 7-2 means you guys. You've got to beat three out of four, two Colts games, a Buffalo Thursday night game, and a Monday night game, or is a Sunday night game in Kansas City against the Chiefs. Yeah, that doesn't get flex, which I don't think it will. No, no, no, no, no. That's a difficult chore.
Starting point is 00:41:13 But now, at least we're thinking about it as compared to if they had lost the game yesterday, it would have been seasons over with, start thinking about the draft, and probably Nick Casero's worried about whether or not he's going to keep his job or not. Here's my big question, dude. Are you at all nervous now because of... You win this game, comeback fashion. Morale is at an all-time high. You get a Tennessee Titans team coming off of a buy week.
Starting point is 00:41:38 Does that give you any concern going into Nashville, the potential you find a way to drop this one? No. No, they're going to beat the Titans badly. What is going to happen, and whether this is just what's going on inside their building or the city or its fan bases, you're going to get this false sense of bravado.
Starting point is 00:41:57 They're thinking, all right, here we go all these close games we play so says to miko all these these nice little wrong we've had here and things are starting to turn around now if it really does want to turn around what you have to do is you got to beat somebody you're not supposed to beat and that's what i want to see i want to see them beat buffalo in a short week i want them to it the very minimum split the colts games uh at the very minimum. You cannot, under any circumstance, lose to, you know, the Cardinals game. I mean, there are, you've got just little, little, little room for error. But, like, that to me is where, like, I'm getting nervous. Like, I'm looking at the Texans. I'm saying, okay, they remind me
Starting point is 00:42:37 of any team in the SEC that knows how to play in a high profile game. Like, Texas A&M for years when they were Texas 8 and 4. You put the number next to Alabama. Guess what? They're going to show on up for that game. They're going to be ready and prepared to go toe to toe with a top 25 team in the country. And then here comes old little Mississippi State. And Mississippi State, they don't have a good roster, and their defense has given up 500 yards per game. And you crap the bed. And I'm looking at that matchup against Arizona. I'm like, watch this team find a way to go beat on a short week Buffalo, the MVP and Josh Allen,
Starting point is 00:43:07 watch them go into Lucas Oil Stadium, shut down Jonathan Taylor, who's having an MVP season. They turned Danny Dines back into being Danny Nichols, who can't get the ball off when he was in New York. And then they get ass kicked by Arizona with Jacoby Brissette as a backup quarterback. Like, that's where my brain's at right now because there's no reason they should have lost to Denver. I mean, you had such a good, a defensive game plan, and you showed how big of an actual liability, Bo Nix is as a quarterback, and you still couldn't get out of your own way. And that's what I think is going to happen, is that they'll get a win over Buffalo, they'll get a win over Kansas City, and then here comes Las Vegas, but nothing to play for. Okay, yep, here we go. Watch them find a way to lose by 10 to Gino Smith. See, I don't see it that way.
Starting point is 00:43:55 I understand why you see it that way. I see them beating up on the second tiers and struggling against the excellence. So you see them beating Arizona, Las Vegas, Tennessee. Right. So that's seven wins, but that puts you at seven and ten. And that's the problem is that you can't go there. You got to get to ten. That's why this team to me doesn't have the offensive chutzpah,
Starting point is 00:44:17 there's a term for you, to beat an upper echelon team. At least at this point. That's why it will be hard to win two against the Colts. It'll be hard to beat Buffalo in a short week. Although, I mean, again, I saw nothing of Buffalo Miami yesterday because I was getting ready for the Rockets. But how do how does Buffalo lose to Miami who is thinking about their new coach already? It was terrible.
Starting point is 00:44:38 Well, okay, the turnovers. I mean, that was the bottom line is that they had four turnovers in the game and three were inside the red zone. I mean, you have an easy touchdown pass to Josh Allen, and he throws it into double coverage. Like, it was, it's one of those games to where you, you look back and you say to yourself, we're always due one. Like everyone is due to have a bad game.
Starting point is 00:44:57 This was Josh Allen's single worst game that we had seen all year because it wasn't like Tua was light in the world on fire. You had two terrible interceptions. The problem was that Buffalo had four turnovers. That's how you lose. Well, maybe they're a different team away from Buffalo because they're certainly Jackal and Hine on that bad boyfriend. I mean, they beat Kansas City and do look good at home games
Starting point is 00:45:17 and then all of a sudden they go on the road and, you know, that's their issues. that AFC East, by the way, is Uber competitive. Can we talk about New England how well they've looked so far this season? Well, we're not going to do on this show. It's stupid, but like, we lived in a world where we finally got rid of the empire,
Starting point is 00:45:34 and now it's like, oh, here comes Drake May as Anakin Skywalker 2.0. Go ahead and just destroy us all. Because Mike Vrable's going to turn that team and do a contest. I don't think it's this year, but they're back in the fold, dude. They are. They're going to be a threat.
Starting point is 00:45:48 Yep. Adding one more contender, and that's what Texans have got to figure out their situation. offensively because defensively they're ready to win a championship a lot of work to do on the offensive side it is 10 minutes past 11 o'clock demico's going to speak in a few minutes let's get that out of the way now if you'd like to join us you may do so at 7132-2-790 7-1 3212 5 790 7-19 my man coltops is going to hang out for a couple of hours we want you to join us as well 7-1 3212 5 is 790 1150 on sports talk 790 mad and cole with you here
Starting point is 00:46:21 here for a while. We got to tell the truth coming up at 1130, at 1230 today. Normally we do it at 1130, but since we're going to hear from Domingo coming up at a few minutes. Okay, so let me go, you're going to go glass half full or glass half empty? I'm always a pessimistic. Let's go
Starting point is 00:46:37 glass half empty. All right, so glass half empty, was this a one-off for the Texans yesterday? Or was this something you build off? Because you had a backup quarterback doing this amazing thing, an amazing comeback that hasn't happened very often in the NFL. Okay, you know what the first thing I thought of after they found a way to get into the end.
Starting point is 00:46:53 By the way, Davis Mills, credit to you, dude. Shoot or shoot. You had a terrible 29 minutes of action and then like the last 12 you decided to go full pro-bo mold. But you know what I thought of? Remember the game against the Tennessee Titans in 2023? CJ Strouds a concussion protocol. Dalton
Starting point is 00:47:09 Schultz's end zone. They're wearing the Oilers jerseys. You shove one up to Amy Adams' Trump because you don't care about her anymore and how bad of an owner she is. They came back home the next week and they got embarrassed by the Cleveland Browns. that is what I'm worried about with this next game against the Tennessee Titans
Starting point is 00:47:25 is that you used all of your good luck in this matchup to come back by 19 and this is going to be a game to where we see Cam Ward live up to the billing of a number one overall pick fresh by week you still have some good offensive pieces they slow down Davis Mills
Starting point is 00:47:40 they don't make the running game happen I don't want to believe it's going to happen but that's where my brain went after I watched Davis Mills cross the goal line you're saying trap i'm saying tennessee sucks oh they do i mean they're really really bad i no i don't see it now am i expecting 35 zero no but i if i'm a if i'm a texans fan i'm thinking they're going to go up there and they've been given a last gasp at life i mean think about they lose that game yesterday the season's over do you know how depressing it would be to be talking
Starting point is 00:48:15 about texans football from mid-november to the end of the season with no playoff aspirations? Matt, we're literally at the halfway point of the season. Like, we would be talking for eight straight weeks about the draft. Who wants to do that in the city? Wex. Yeah, to be fair. He's already looking at mock drafts right now and seeing what positioning the Texans are in.
Starting point is 00:48:35 Where do they go for an offensive lineman that Nick Casario is going to trade out that pick to begin with? So it's not like we're going to have to even worry about that. We'll get two first round picks for pick number 14. And then in two years, when Nick Aserio still is the GM, we're going to trade it once again. We're going to be picking into the second round forever. Yeah, to me, they'll beat Tennessee. They beat the second tier team. Let me ask you, do you think it's more so one of these games that is a 35-10 victory?
Starting point is 00:49:00 Davis-Mills connects with Nico Collins for two touchdowns and 130 yards? Or do you think it's going to be like a 21-17 kind of sweating things out, fourth-quarter comeback by Houston? I'm going to go with, they don't sweat this in the fourth quarter. Okay. And you know what? If I'm C.J. Stroud, I rest. Oh, C.J.'s not playing this week.
Starting point is 00:49:18 What I thought of yesterday, watching as the fourth quarter was able to kind of be in favor of Houston, dude, if you can't beat the Tennessee Titans with Davis Mills, you don't deserve to be even in the college football. I mean, even in the conversation for the playoff. Yeah, so it works that well. You give another week off, short week, get on the field against Buffalo, be the hero. The Buffalo, how about this? Let's make this grandiose statement. The Buffalo game determines how the season goes to the Texans.
Starting point is 00:49:46 I don't hate that. Now here's the interesting part. Buffalo takes on Tampa this week, and it's a short week. So I wonder, do they use all their momentum to get back on track, beat a team like Tampa, a playoff-bound roster with a good quarterback, and then they don't show up on a short week against Houston to where maybe Houston, once again, this is where you kind of look at it as not the trap, but I would say, you're caught back into the gusto. Look at us. We're six and five. Things are turning the corner. And here comes Indianapolis as they proceed to beat us by 20. Like, is that what we're going to see, is my main question? I don't know. You know, Buffalo can't afford. I mean, Buffalo's lost to Miami yesterday really hurt them.
Starting point is 00:50:27 I think they're going to come in all guns ablazing. It'll, you know, look, Tampa Bay may take a lot out of them, maybe a high-scoring game, so they may just not be out of juice. By the way, I thought the NFL was not going to make teams travel that far. It's a break for the Texans, frankly. Yeah. I know they're trying to improve the Thursday night games, but all these teams traveling to time zones are like 50s,
Starting point is 00:50:47 16, 600 miles to play a game in the middle of the week. So, okay, so here's what I think is actually what they said. We're not going to make you do that when you have a way game. So the game for Buffalo is at home this week against Tampa. So if they were in Tampa and then having to come back to then leave two days later to go play against Houston, that's where I think the NFL was like, yeah, we're going to stop with that. We got to give you at least a fair fight. So maybe that's what it is.
Starting point is 00:51:13 I don't know, man. Something tells me that they will find a way to beat Buffalo because Buffalo is just not going to come in prepared, whether it be because of a bad offensive performance from Josh Allen again or the defense can't stop a lick to save its life. CJ coming off of two weeks of rest, looks the part, but then Houston goes out and they get embarrassed at Lucas Oil Stadium. That's kind of where my brain's at right now. Yeah. I mean, all those scenarios come in play, again, to me, if you're going to be a real team, you've got to go beat somebody better than you are. You got to snag that victory back. Let's go to the press conference now for D'Amico Rains.
Starting point is 00:51:49 I think Danny Williams, the Boxing 2,000, to the dislocated show that we've got the knockout. Yeah, what went into the videos. I get a lot of things from a lot of different people just throughout the season goes on, just get messages. But our team chaplain, McCado, Hansen, that sent me a clip like a couple weeks ago. And, you know, I just always try to find the appropriate time
Starting point is 00:52:12 to show things. If it's pertinent, if it's relevant to the team and I think it will resonate with the team, then I'll show it. So I felt like there was a good moment for us and something we needed to see. Well, everybody talked about it, so it obviously resonated. When you went back and looked at how you guys performed yesterday, what stood out to you the most? I mean, we always hear you say execute. Is that the epitome of what that looks like?
Starting point is 00:52:38 Yeah, the thing that stood out to me the most is how we finished the game. I would say because, like, in that boxing match, a lot of bad things happened. The guy was down pretty bad, and it didn't matter, right? He had a will and desire to win. And that's what I wanted our guys to see. That's what I wanted them to do yesterday. It's just showcase that desire to win no matter what happens, no matter how the game looks in the first half, like how are we coming out and how are we finishing in the second half.
Starting point is 00:53:10 So I'm most proud of how we finish. we still have things to clean or we can execute better when it counted when we needed it most like Davis the receivers they made
Starting point is 00:53:22 outstanding plays the touchdown pass of Dalton I mean it was such a huge play and to come back and make another huge third down pass
Starting point is 00:53:31 to Dalton there towards our side line I mean those are huge plays that Davis made and he doesn't make those plays without the protection being good I thought our office line
Starting point is 00:53:40 protected well and allow Davis to make those plays. So I'm just really proud of how we truly finish the game. So I'm going to make to the decision to start C-Sull. And given the success that that offensive line group had late in the game, if you are to get some guys back, how might that change their approach? Or how might you look at it?
Starting point is 00:54:02 Yeah, for the offensive line, we'll continue to find, you know, what works for us. And, you know, the best guys that we can put out there, we're going to try that. And it's a culmination of a lot of things that you guys don't see from practice, from how we're seeing guys work throughout the week, how they're doing. It's with the mental being where they're supposed to be doing the things that we asked them to do on a consistent basis. Like a lot of things going to play there.
Starting point is 00:54:28 So still a lot of things that we can clean up, a lot of things just with our entire team, we can just be more consistent on doing the things that we're asked to do. And until we're going to keep moving guys around, that we find the right group that's going to do it the right way, do what we're asking them to do every single time that they're out there. What can you say about the performance that Jared and Trent had when they were ready for their opportunity and were able to out there and get that? Yeah, I thought the protection was good.
Starting point is 00:54:54 I thought Jared did a good job of battling. He battled and strained and fought. Like, that's all we're asking for. And he did that no matter who he was up against. I thought Trent came out, did a great job of, you know, really did. Displacing guys at the line of scrimmage, did a great job protecting on the right side. Any rusher that was on him one-on-one, he won that rep every single time. So Trent did a really good job, and for his first time being out there with us.
Starting point is 00:55:24 So I'm pleased with what he did and encouraged to see how he can continue to progress. Anyone who's actually beat Mike Tyson? He did. Yes, he did. Offset. On the other side of the football, at safety, do you feel like you have a lot of flexibility? and say if you do get Jalen back this week out of the protocol. You also have Miles Brian. You've got some guys from Jail the Reed.
Starting point is 00:55:47 Yeah, unfortunately with our safety position, MJ went down yesterday with a quad injury. He'll be out for the season. He'll have surgery here over the next couple days. So, you know, unfortunate for MJ, he was doing a really good job, playing really good for us in that starting role. He meant a lot to our team. So we're going to miss MJ and what he brings to our team.
Starting point is 00:56:08 So opportunity for other guys to step up, whoever that may be. We'll see who's ready to step up. We're waiting about the running game yesterday with a combo a little bit of Ox and Chubb and Woody Marks, how that's progressing. Other part of the question, urshery, when you look at kind of what nursery did yesterday, it gets pretty good run defense. Yeah, to start with our running backs, I thought Woody, and he played fast. He may plays, especially plays on the perimeter, which is where he's seen him shine the most,
Starting point is 00:56:38 when he can get the ball in space. And he did a really nice job of handling the bulk of the carries for us. And when Chub came in and got his opportunities, man, he talked about it. He had some explosive runs. He ran physical. You know, he looked like he had a little extra burst to him. So it was good, a one-two punch that we were able to use.
Starting point is 00:57:00 Those guys did a really good job. And Tay is he did a great job of battling. We know how the first game ended, you know, with Jacksonville. so I know if anybody, you know, he has a lot of pride in himself to go out and, you know, kind of correct what went wrong in the first game. And I thought he did a great job all game protecting, getting out on the edge. There are a couple of the plays we had on the left side, you know, getting the ball outside. You know, we're springing those plays because of what Tay is doing.
Starting point is 00:57:28 So as a rookie, again, playing the toughest position, you know, on the offensive line, he's doing a great job holding his own as a rookie and he's getting better as the season is going on. Do you have any update on how CJ's doing and do you expect him to return this week? For CJ, Titus, and Jalen, all three guys are still in the concussion protocol. So we'll see how they progress throughout the week. Derek Stingley's interception at the end of the half, helping people all have momentum going into halftime. The way that he made that interception, were you surprised by what he did?
Starting point is 00:58:01 Do you get surprised by anything he does? The interception by Stingley was, I mean, it was huge for us. You talk about a momentum shift, being able to, you know, limit them from being able to get points there at the half. We know their field goal kicker has a great leg, outstanding range. So we had to try to knock them back as best as possible. So we tried to pressure them there, and Stingley did a great job of being sticky in his coverage and undercutting the crossing route, playing with speed and outstanding one-handed catch. You just, you don't see that play happen a lot, but Stingley, again, great ball skills, great effort,
Starting point is 00:58:36 trained, and that's what allowed him to make that play. Obviously, you know, you guys make the big comeback, and you guys finish the way that you guys have finished a lot in the previous seasons. How good was it to just see your team kind of implement that DNA that you're always trying to instill an index that you've been here, which is finished? Yeah, as a coach, yeah, you want to teach things, you want to harp on, you know, a certain play style and what is it going to take to win a game right and when you see your players go out and do that in a manner that you've been asking them to do like it's it's encouraging it's exciting
Starting point is 00:59:17 as a coach you see like man that's why you coach to be able to get guys to see and do things that they may not it may not look great from the onset but it's just that belief that I have in all these guys as their coach like I know they can do it I know we got great players I know we have a great team, and I'm always urging and pleading with them just to, hey, let's just do it the right way. Let's execute the right way. Let's finish the right way because I know we're capable of doing it. And that's what it looks like. Like when you just do the things you're supposed to do, you make the plays.
Starting point is 00:59:51 I mean, it's just, it's a fun, fun film to watch. Hopefully it's a confidence booster for everyone when you do it the right way, and we can win a lot of games. How do you feel about the operation and how David's? handled things before the play, not just during the way. Yeah, Davis did a great job with his operation, not only in the game, but it was show it all throughout the week. So he handled himself really well. Demiico, what do you think it's like as a quarterback when you have Anderson coming at you
Starting point is 01:00:20 from one way and Daniel coming at you from the other way? I'm happy I never play a quarterback because I'll probably be taking a lot of sacks. No, those guys, man, the way DeNeil, the way Will plays, you know, we know the effort, the intensity that he plays with and Danil, I mean, he was exploding off the ball yesterday playing violent, like not slowing down, and
Starting point is 01:00:44 that only works with the interior guys getting the right push. So I thought our tackles did a good job when we were able to push the pocket and they were able to collapse the edge. That's how the rush works together. So deal, Will and Danil, they're definitely a scary force, you know, on the edge
Starting point is 01:01:00 and two of the best edge rushers in the league and And we're blessed to have both of those guys as rushers and on our team. That's a pretty uncharacteristic game from the special teams. What was kind of the message midgame to those guys as some of those early hiccups popped up? Yeah, for our special teams, we got to tackle better. It was not from a lack of not having guys there, not having guys in position to make the plays. Again, nobody's going to go make the play for you.
Starting point is 01:01:27 You're free to the football. We got to go. We got to tackle. Like, there's no reason for us to give up a return. turn like that, give up plays on the kick. Like, we got to go tackle, we got to get off blocks, and we got to go tackle the football, and everybody got to swarm, and we got to finish
Starting point is 01:01:41 to the football, much better. Sheldon talked about, at the end of the game, we asked if he got the ball, but apparently you're running down and celebrating with him. Uh-oh. When you saw him scooped that ball up, what did you think? You know?
Starting point is 01:01:56 Well, I was, man, I knew it was over. Like, we finally finished. And so I was, you know, he took off with the ball. while Will, again, I can't talk about that play without talking about the two previous plays, which I think it kind of gets shadow cast over it, but Will, on the play to draw the penalty with the hands to the face, that was such a huge play in the game. That's him just rushing with that relentless intensity and drew the penalty, and then on the last play of the game, like him still giving everything that he has, all the effort,
Starting point is 01:02:30 everything to finish the game, Will makes that play. and the ball just happens. Sheldon happened to be the beneficiary of being there and the ball just landed in his hands there and he took it all the way through the end zone. So I was just so elated to knew that we had won the game and
Starting point is 01:02:47 knowing the effort that it took from everybody, a team effort, coaches, players, everybody pull a lot into that game to get it done and we're excited about it. We're happy for it and now it's put it to bed and it's on to the next one. So it was
Starting point is 01:03:03 It was a great win for our team, great win for our organization. They ought to focus on what happened at that point where he gets tackled and it turns into a touchdown. But the alignment, you put everybody in the secondary and how much have you worked on that? They had no time out. So obviously everyone was playing the sideline. Yeah, the situational football, things we worked at every week. So we're ready for him. What was the serge?
Starting point is 01:03:25 Are you sorry, DJ and Sarge? Obviously, the DNs, Will and, you know, they rehabbed all a lot of offensive tackles. What allows them, do you have respect to have that bend while still being able to be explosive around that corner? What do you think allows them to consistently be able to get in those awkward positions but still be able to rush a foot to the quarterbacks? Yeah, most of that for defensive ends when they're at, I call it the moment of truth. When you get to the level of the quarterback, right, can you have enough ankle flexion to be able to get to the, you know, make the turn, a tight turn and get to the quarterback? a lot of that is just God-given ability. Some guys are able to do that.
Starting point is 01:04:06 Some guys can try to work it as much as they can to improve it. Some guys are much better at it just because I feel like it's just a God-given gift and ability that you have the ankle flexion that you have. You have that explosiveness and the agility to be able to turn tight corners. And both guys do have that. Coach, at what point did you feel the game starting to change and start to turn for you all on Sunday? Yeah, the game started to change for me, I would say, with the Higgins touchdown.
Starting point is 01:04:36 And we were able, we were driving down in the Red Zone, you know, we've had a lot of Red Zone woes here for, for a long time. So, yeah, Woody getting in on the Flip Crack play, that was a great play, just to see everybody see, okay, we can score, we can't get in the end zone, right? But to come back again, and when we needed it most there, you know, Higgins, the connection from David, to Higgins to get that play. I think that was the one that really sparked everything for our team. For you all to score on that Davis-Mill scramble like that with this 14-yard scramble. Back-to-back penalties, you know, it looked like, well, here we go again. You know, you're right there.
Starting point is 01:05:16 And even when they ran to play, when the marks had scored, but then, you know, two false stars brought you back. At that point, did you still have that feeling that, you know, we could still do this. I know that we still have, you know, we still do it. Never doubted my mind. Like, it was never a doubt. of my mind and, you know, when for us to battle back, how we battle back, it was, it was only right for us for us to finish that game. So, you know, I had all the faith in our guys to go
Starting point is 01:05:42 out and execute because they just showed it. I mean, we made the play Woody, Higgins scored, Dalton scored, Nico on the two-point conversion. No one's talking about that cat. That was a sick catch and for him to get in. So we, we had made positive plays, especially on that. I think we scored all of our touchdowns on that end. We got to make sure we're going that way every time on offense. But it was I was confident that we would make a play
Starting point is 01:06:09 and I don't think anybody was expecting Davis to scramble and make it. But man, to see him step up, put the team on his back, tuck the ball, made a great decision. It wasn't there in the timing of the play. He was able to step up and get in the end zone
Starting point is 01:06:25 and hats off to Davis for being clutch for us when we needed it most. Thank you, guys. What have you decided? Bryans, Davis Mills and Clutch in the same sentence. There you go. 1135 on Sports Talk 7.90.
Starting point is 01:06:42 We get to tell the truth coming up in an hour from now. Cole Thompson hanging out with me. You guys can hang out with me as well. 713-212-5-7-90. If you want to chime in on the conversation, 7-13-212-5-7-90. As we celebrate a start. cardling performance from your Texans in the second half,
Starting point is 01:07:02 and an ultimate choke job by the Jacksonville Jaguars, rockets of the wind, college football on the agenda, and two Cleveland Guardian pitchers throwing balls away, literally, to collect checks. 1135 on Sports Talk 790. All right. Matt and Cole with you here until 1 o'clock today. We've got to tell the truth coming up.
Starting point is 01:07:24 Have you ever played to tell the truth, Cole? No, not with you. I've done, I'm trying to think. I've done the Thursday show with you before. I've done a Tuesday show with you before. I've done a Friday show with you before. I've never done the Monday. I have four takes and I believe three of them.
Starting point is 01:07:38 Which one do I lie about? So we've got to listen for that. I'm a pretty good liar, actually. So it works out well. Yeah, I remember you had a take about something with Nick Saban and I was about ready to lose my mind coming on in one day that he was supposed to come back to coaching. And thankfully you were telling the truth that he doesn't need to come back to coaching.
Starting point is 01:07:55 But I was on the verge of my seat about ready to lose it on you. Yeah, there are so many good jobs, but Nick, just enjoy television. He's so good at it. That's the problem. Like, if he sucked the way Drew Breesden, I don't understand it. Two things I wanted to do. Two things I wanted to do. One, get rid of the Grecian formula and just go with a gray. He's all white. You know he is. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:15 And stop mentioning his wife with the word miss in front of her name. But that's what we call her down in Tuscaloosa. No, nobody calls for that. She does. Everyone in Tuscaloosa knows her as Miss Terry. That's weird. How is it weird? Weird.
Starting point is 01:08:28 It's a respect thing in the southeastern region of the United States. The only person that could ever be known, let me tell you, Jonathan, listen to me very carefully on this. And you, too, Cole. I am friends with a family that the family called the mother Miss, Miss Ellie. That's the only one I could ever think of. And other friends of mine that live in the Dallas area, it was kind of strange. They were all living together in this one big rink. ranch house is really crazy and they had a bunch of ruthless brothers one was a decent guy one was
Starting point is 01:09:04 kind of a snake uh but yeah they called her mom they called their mom miss ellie so that's it no miss terry that's ridiculous see i still to this day with my friend's moms still called them miss yeah see i'm a call on this one that's how we that was how i was raised is that ever whoever you walk into the house you do two things you never call them by their first name and you always say yes ma'am and yes sir afterwards it's like all carla's little friends my daughter they call me mr matt i don't like that just just matt matt's fine see i'm gonna be that way as a dad i'm gonna let you call me by my first name it doesn't bother me yeah yeah by the way mr matt sounds mr matt sounds creepy it's like a cartoon character hey mr matt no it sounds like somebody
Starting point is 01:09:47 i wouldn't trust my child to hang out with that's for dang sure don't worry you're going to hang out at mr matt's house no the hell you're not you know what i was saying about my friends and dad Dallas. I forgot about them. I haven't talked to them in a long time. I feel like I've done them wrong. Huh. Why, they're in Dallas. There's nothing to you have to worry about in that standpoint. Well, I mean, they, you know, they've got, they used to, they used to own an oil company and now they're no longer in business. So, okay, so they no longer own an oil company. Why the hell are they saying out in Dallas? Um, they're older. So why not go to Florida like everyone else who's old? That's a good question. I'll have to call them. Uh, yeah, I'm friends with all the brothers. Uh, Bobby, uh, J.R. And then Ray, it's.
Starting point is 01:10:26 raised was a ranch hand while he was there at the ranch and so I didn't know him very well because I'm not a big ranch guy but he's he raised the horses and the cattle that kind of thing so he's not friends with John Dutton you have no idea even what I'm talking about do you you don't have any idea what I'm talking about either I heard that you were talking about Dallas the TV show when you said JR oh that gave it away
Starting point is 01:10:47 that gave it 100% away I was like who are you talking about good for you cold because I had no idea what I was yeah the second he said JR is like are you really going to try to pull the Dallas joke on me. I should try Sessions and John Ross. Damn it. I would have never got that. I said, why is he friends with the Cincinnati Bengals bust wide receiver? Folks, I got him going for a while.
Starting point is 01:11:08 You never had to be from the get-go. The second you said JR is like, this son of a gut is really trying to pull the wool over my eyes with that 80s TV show. Which, by the way, is a great theme song. What if I would have said, Sue Allen, would that have done anything for you? Nope, not even a little bit. That would have thrown me
Starting point is 01:11:25 completely off the trail. By the way, I put a poll question up today. How happy are you after the Texans win? My two options were gutsy victory, Love it, or Jacks choked NBD. No big deal, as the kids would say. 63% gutsy victory, 37% said Jacks choked.
Starting point is 01:11:41 That feels about right, right? You want to talk about somebody who's choked yesterday? The New York Giants who just fired Brian Dable. Oh, no. Brian Dable, out as head coach of the New York Giants following the implosion. that was against the Chicago Bears. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:11:59 Don't think it's to be a topic on our show today. No, but still, I mean, just that's... But that's the thing is that it's... Oh, WFAN, God bless. God bless Sal and those idiots up there who are going to find a way to spin this into like saying that they're positive. No, I mean, like, again, it was a...
Starting point is 01:12:15 In my opinion, it was a choke job by Jackson more so than it was a gutsy victory by Houston. Okay. But somebody's got to do it, though, right? Yeah, of course they do. All right. 713-212-5-790 7-1-3-2-1-2-5-7-90 If you want to join our conversation, we'd love to have you right now.
Starting point is 01:12:32 7-1-3-212-5-7-99. So Brian Daibold is out as a Giants Head Coach. We've got like 15 college jobs opening. Yeah. Hmm, Cole. Which one do we want? If we had a chance to pick and choose our job, which one we want.
Starting point is 01:12:55 I'll tell you from the college standpoint, just because, okay, number one, I love to say Louisiana because of the food. Like, I've always said that nobody in Louisiana is fat, they're just well fed, because that's how good the food is down there. LSU, when it's at its peak, is the best job in college football. Are we sure their facilities are good enough? Are we sure they have money to pay athletes? Are you sure they have enough money to pay Brian Kelly $53 million to go away and then
Starting point is 01:13:18 go to have the exact? They do. They do have that. They do have that. They pay their track athletes. They definitely have money to pay. They pay for everything. we won. I mean, like, that's the thing with Scott Woodward.
Starting point is 01:13:25 Like, his legacy is going to be tarnished because he made two of the biggest deals that had the biggest buyouts in college football history, but he's brought a national championship to gymnastics. They pay for Livy Dunn and her boyfriend down there. They've won two national titles in baseball. They paid for Kim Moki to leave
Starting point is 01:13:42 Baylor and head back to Louisiana. They have the best asset that is we can recruit our state and nobody can go ahead and touch us because if everybody wants to play at LSU, it's like, and then you throw in the food down there I love crawfish
Starting point is 01:13:56 I love every type of seafood that exists You're telling me you would take a job over Just because of the food That's crazy I would take a job 100% At the University of Louisiana State Over anywhere else in the country Because of the food
Starting point is 01:14:07 That would be a selling point for me You're an easy get then basically I'm a very easy get I am a cheap dinner That is all you got to take Take me to a great crawfish place And I will easily go ahead and spread So we're going to give you a chance
Starting point is 01:14:20 To recruit all the top kids from our own state. We're going to give you good facilities. We're going to give you a chance to basically it's open enrollment in LSU. It's not hard to get kids in. Let's be brutally honest. And we're going to be able to give you unlimited crawfish a two-fei. Sign me up what you're saying. 100%. Give me a po-boy on Fridays.
Starting point is 01:14:37 Give me some type of black and catfish on Tuesdays. Give me all the recruits in the country. I'll win you a national title and I'll get paid. I will say one of my favorite places to eat in the South is Chimes in Baton Rouge. It's so good. They have rolls which are really good, right? The rolls are really good there.
Starting point is 01:14:53 They also have this black and catfish dish that is to die for. I just had a buddy that went to Baton Rouge for the LSU, what was it? LSU Florida game a couple of weeks ago. Went to that one and had a time of his life. Best food. He kept sending me food picks the entire day and I wanted to drive him and kill him. I got to be honest, I try to send two of my kids to LSU. I want a car to play volleyball there and I want a camera, my oldest, to go to school there.
Starting point is 01:15:20 And he's like, no, I like Texas Tech more. at least Texas Tech won this weekend. They kicked the crap on a BYU. They did kick the crap out of them. Vince. Go ahead. No, I was just going to say, are you celebrating that, or are you just waiting because Houston still has an opportunity to get into the Big 12 championship?
Starting point is 01:15:32 That is the exact one. There we got. Thank you. All right, hi, Vince. Hey, how are you guys doing? Hey, I wanted to mention a couple things about, well, one thing about the game. Davis was lucky. He didn't go at least four interceptions.
Starting point is 01:15:44 He threw some balls up there that could have easily been picked off, and that would have been totally different story. but of course he's a backup so whatever but I want to get your thoughts on D'Amico because man I'd hate to see him get fired because of a one you know if this season doesn't turn out
Starting point is 01:16:04 well because those guys played really hard for him and the defense is probably the one of the strongest in the league and it's because of him and so if there's any firing to do I think they should go after the general manager whoever
Starting point is 01:16:19 what's his name? Nick, Casario. Nick, yeah, yeah, exactly. Because the offensive line issue is just something that's been nagging us and continues to. And I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel because good line and hard to find. So I just want to get your thoughts on that. I will say this. I don't think either, first of all, I think the chances of Domingo of Ryan's being fired to zero percent.
Starting point is 01:16:45 I would say, Matt, did you, have you heard anybody say fired Domingo Ryan's? no no no no no and i and i will say this again this is on a previous tell the truth i don't think nick casero's going to lose his job either uh i do believe he's if they don't make the playoffs this year the next year he will be on the bull's eye board square one look at him he's going to have he's going to have to have to have even if he even if the texans who squeeze in as a walled card he's going to have an amazing draft coming up he's going to have to banage uh massage the salary cap more you cannot for the fourth consecutive year i'm assuming next year before have a below-average offensive line.
Starting point is 01:17:22 They, they... Matt, we're talking... Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt, we're talking five years, the entire tenure of the Nick Casario regime, a mediocre offensive line. And that'll be year six of it being that bad. That's the problem that we're looking at. Okay, well, then he's got to either adjust who is trusting
Starting point is 01:17:38 or not let somebody else handle it because, yeah, D'Meek, I will say this, I'm going on record. I don't think either one loses their jobs this year, even if the Texans don't make the playoffs, I do believe that will be intense. The seat will be extraordinarily warm for Nick going into next season. Yeah, I mean, it's ice cold for Domeco. Like, you will see GTA6 officially actually come on out
Starting point is 01:17:59 and not be delayed six more times before Domeca Ryan's is fired. That's an Adam Clanton job. What did you just say? GTA6. Have you not heard that they're delaying the game again? Oh, that's the Grand Theft Auto. Yes, Grand Theft Auto. See, I'm an adult.
Starting point is 01:18:15 I don't play video games. So, uh... So Platton's not. Not an adult? Okay, to be fair, but Clayton's a man child. Clayton's not an adult. I'm going to go ahead and say that on the record. He's not an adult. No, he's a man child. All right. Let's get to Willie before we get to the news at noon. Willie, thank you for holding. Good morning here at Limp 57. What's going on?
Starting point is 01:18:31 Thank you for taking the call. Now, we watched part of the Texan game yesterday. We had recorded in the second half, and then we realized they won. We had some other things to do. But it was amazing to watch it recorded because you just can't figure out how this happened. You try to predict, and it's, it's just like one of those, I don't know, I don't want to call it a fluke win, but maybe that's what it was. But anyway, congratulations, Texan, and to Davis Mills, I think he's shown that he has a little something, and the coach.
Starting point is 01:19:10 Anyway, I'm calling really about the Cougars and their comeback win. Yeah. Oh, I mean, Coach Fritz. it's the hugest smile on his face when that game was over. I don't think he believed it himself. But anyway, I just, I'm still very proud of that team. I know they had a happy flight home. They did have a happy flight home.
Starting point is 01:19:34 Thank you for the phone call, Willie. I appreciate you. Yeah, the Cougars are still in play. Now, it's going to take a lot of maneuvering here. The Big 12 standings, I don't think, are, you got to climb with two teams to get over the top of that. You got to climb three, dude. You forget, Cincinnati still is ahead of you. So you have Utah, Cincinnati, and BYU.
Starting point is 01:19:53 Now, the good news is Cincinnati could get knocked out this weekend when they face off against BYU. So that makes your job a little bit easier, and you get a buy week to get better, but not entirely. By the way, Willie, no offense, bud, but do you want to why it was so easy to go ahead and predict that the Jacksonville Jaguars were going to find a way to lose that game? Because they suck, because it's Jacksonville. Like, they're not a good team. Let me say, Jonathan, let me Jonathan, excuse me, Cole. I don't like using the word sucks when it comes
Starting point is 01:20:22 a particular person about their abilities. That's very harsh. You understand that? So with that being said, Trevor Lawrence sucks. He sucks. He sucks. He's so bad.
Starting point is 01:20:33 So bad. Like, okay, you want to what I learned yesterday, Matt, when I watched once again, Trevor Lawrence, crap the bed. Stop using the term generational. Because if that was the one player that everyone unanimously in the NFL drafting landscape said, generational talent.
Starting point is 01:20:51 So he was a generational suck fest. Is that what we're talking about at this point? My God, how much longer do you at the... Liam Cullen throwing his headset and James Gladstone bashing his head against the side of a wall yesterday should have been the ultimate sign that that regime royally screwed on up, signing him to a $265 million extension. He sucks.
Starting point is 01:21:13 He can't... He overthrows his receivers. he has terrible awareness about pressure coming. He takes worse sacks than C.J. Strai would ever dream of taking. He's terrible. We will celebrate the victory for the Texans. We will celebrate the Rockets victory against the Milwaukee Bucks. All that plus the news at noon, to tell the truth, bottom of the hour.
Starting point is 01:21:36 150, it's a half of rest in peace to Lenny Wilkins, a former longtime NBA player and coach, and half to Paul Taglebu, the former commissioner, the NFL both passing away yesterday all coming up it is 12 noon here on sports talk 790 this is the matt thomas show with ross just the only one we're winning we'll be singing i get no down
Starting point is 01:22:07 does chepa wump have another song besides this one no one it is matt this is one of the one is it right Matt, this is one of the top 10 greatest songs ever written because of the name of the song and the name of the band. Matt, you had cold jumping the whole time. I kid you not. Jonathan's watching through the camera as I am just channeling my inner 90s version of myself. You were three years old. I was, I wasn't even boring.
Starting point is 01:22:32 When this song came out, I think it was two. Tub thumping. Chumbabwumba. How do you write? This is what I'm talking about. That is the most peak 90s song of all. all time because of what the name is of the band and what the name is of the song. It made
Starting point is 01:22:47 no sense. So this song reminds me of a, this shows you how old I am. The Comets won a WMBA championship. It was a big party. Just stop. You can stop right there. You said Comets. We already know. Okay. So we went to this party and this
Starting point is 01:23:03 song came on and everybody went to the dance floor. And one of our fellow broadcasters had a wife. She was a lot. She was out there She was out there And so every time The song would go
Starting point is 01:23:18 I'd get knocked down She would fall to the ground And then she'd jump herself back up Did she get up in time Like in rhythm Like I get knocked down Hit the floor I get up again pop up
Starting point is 01:23:30 It was in rhythm It was such an incredible athletic achievement Now grand she was only about five feet tall And maybe you weighed 110 pounds max But to see a woman drop and then get back up in in rhythm was quite a magical experience for all of us that were sitting there going first we were all pretty hammered and second so was she hammered is the main question i would think so why would you drop the floor intention and get right back up because there's people out there you just said she was out of left field that seems like an out of left field thing to do doing it sober yeah uh she was super odd now granted uh this couple is no longer married um And I can't really go in much beyond that, but she was, she was an odd bird. One of my children were, and I wasn't born at the time, and she was trying to predict, like, she went over my wife's belly and saw how the quarter would move back and forth and how it would land a certain way.
Starting point is 01:24:29 Oh, God. And then we said to where we said, hey, and I won't mention this girl's name, I said, but if that happens every time, you're telling me that every sex is based off of this, that, the way that the, the girl's name. I said, but if that happens every time, you're telling me that every sex is based off of this, that, the way that the quarter moves? Yeah, the quarter moves. She goes, of course, and she was wrong, which is fine. Oh, I was going to say, what she was right?
Starting point is 01:24:49 Was this with Carly or was this with the other one? This is my oldest camera, I think. Because, yeah, he was born in 2000, and the comments were winning their championships like in 97, 98 in that range. So, you know, she was odd. she was also said she used to take care of Oprah's cats and stuff oh my god she's a cat lady well I mean that's problem number one but when you say let's just start there you already talked about her being an oddball just start off with the fact that she's a cat lady doesn't like
Starting point is 01:25:17 dogs yeah but then she took care of a celebrity's cat who's cat Oprah's what the hell that's how to miss that part we don't know we don't know if we have believed her or not I wouldn't I'll give away too much information I gotta move on let's get to the news and noon I'm getting She's got by doubt. No, she's not. 100%. She's listening in right now. There's 0% chance.
Starting point is 01:25:39 All right. So, Cole, answer this question because we've talked about the Texas a lot today. Where were you, what were you thinking? Late third quarter when Travis Ateen got to the end zone to making 29 to 10 in favor of the Jacksonville Jaguar. How is Nick Casario going to trade a top 10 pick and sell us on the idea that things are turning the corner on the offensive line? Hmm. And then what were you thinking at the very end, the final play of the game is,
Starting point is 01:26:03 Lawrence fumbles it and Rankins goes 32 yards in recovery to win at 3629. The NFL is stupid. Thank God Trevor Lawrence plays quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He's terror. He just is terrible. And that's your NFL rewind from the Texas game. Brian DiBole is out as a Giants coach. No surprise there.
Starting point is 01:26:22 NBA from last night, your beloved Rockets are rockets, America's Rockets. Kevin Durant scores 31 points as the Rockets win by 7. And the best part of it last night, Cole, is he took only 15 shots to get to 31 points. I think my favorite stat line so far this season has been how consistent the three-point shooting was for the Rockets this year. And last night, they had a season low of 38.5%. Yep. Alpi had 23, 11, and 7. Jabari Smith, Reed Shepherd, each added 16. And by the way, the Reed haters are having a tough week. He had a really good road trip.
Starting point is 01:26:57 He was awesome against San Antonio. I didn't get to watch all of the game against Milwaukee, but I really think. thought that the San Antonio game was his best performance of the year. All right. Anything else going on in the world of sports? We should mention. Obah, do you hear about these Cleveland guardian pitchers? Yeah. A male classet. And who's the other one? Ortiz.
Starting point is 01:27:16 Ah. They were throwing pitches, literally. And here's the thing. There were people betting on whether or they were going to throw strikes or balls. How could you bet on that? That's a sickness. How do you have the... Okay.
Starting point is 01:27:30 If you can honestly predict... if you're going to throw a ball or a strike, either you're presenting yourself an opportunity to give up the home run because you're throwing just a slosh fest up the middle, or you have such perfection. How are you not hitting the zone every single time? That's the question that I have.
Starting point is 01:27:47 Here's the story. Ortiz's involvement started in June of 25 when he agreed with Class A that he would be paid $5,000 to throw the first pitch of the second inning for a ball. Class A received $5,000 from arranging the alleged fraud, two-bedders waged a total of $13,000 in the pitch. Ortiz received a payment of 90,000 Dominican pesos in approximately $1,400.
Starting point is 01:28:11 Clossey directed him to lie about the purpose of the money, and if asked and said, quote, this payment is for a horse. Ortiz said, okay, perfect. Okay, so we've already had Terry Rozier be the guy in basketball. Yep. We now have Emmanuel Claisse in baseball. Yep. Who's going to be it in football?
Starting point is 01:28:31 No, we're not saying that. There is somebody in football who guarantee is doing the exact same thing. I'm not letting you do this. Oh, come on. No, you cannot predict who's going to get in trouble. Stop about predicting who's going to get in trouble. I'm saying if you had to bet on one person, who is the guy that is the one that is easily throwing games? Do this on your 6 o'clock show.
Starting point is 01:28:51 We're not slandering people unnecessarily. Look, I team slander, but we're not doing it without some sort of person. Well, neither one's going to be playing in the MLB again. neither one is going to be back on the Cleveland Guardians again. Tara Rozier's not going to be playing again. And how about my guy, Damon Jones? Oh, my God. He had to mortgage his family's house to get to pay the bail.
Starting point is 01:29:11 I mean, my God. My God. That sucks. That's terrible. And I guess he can't be my guy anymore, can he? I mean, yeah, he still can be your dude. He's your dude behind bars, but he saw your dude. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:29:24 Such a sad situation. So, so stupid. And that's the sad way to end the news and noon. but we just did it. Shout out to my Houston Cougars. The Associated Press top 25 poll is out in college basketball. Granted, it is the second week of the season,
Starting point is 01:29:42 but U of H is 2 and 0. And we're number one. Mm-hmm. Houston, Purdue, Yukon, Duke, Arizona, all in the top five, all undefeated. Which one scares you the most to be thrown yet, number one? Probably Purdue, I guess.
Starting point is 01:30:02 Yeah, that'd be my guess. I've not dug into college basketball talk this yet, and probably won't get into March, but I enjoy it what you can. I think, yeah, Houston's going to win it this year. And that's not me being homerism. Are you sure? That's not me being homerism.
Starting point is 01:30:23 I did not say that last year. Last year, I picked Alabama to win the whole dang thing. And they can... Sure and I love that. Yeah, of course, that's what I'm saying. But this year, I don't believe in Bama. I think Nate Oates is a good coach. I think that he has a roster that's solid.
Starting point is 01:30:38 But they've looked terrible at times. I mean, they had a very big slop against St. John's Madison Square Garden on Saturday. So I think, I think Houston's got it. I'm also saying this with a two-game advantage early on the season with little-to-noe information whatsoever on the Houston Cougars because I have yet to watch a single minute. Well, you need to start watching. learning, loving them. They are America's team. All right. Indiana versus Penn State on
Starting point is 01:31:05 last Saturday. Not that we would get into a deep Big Ten conversation, but Penn State played up very, really well. Sure. And lost the game on a last second touchdown by Indiana. Jonathan, let's get the call at Gus Johnson ready to get in here. For those of who did not hear it, we played a little bit
Starting point is 01:31:23 early in the show and worthy of playing again. As a play-by-play broadcaster myself, You can lose your mind sometimes on great plays, great calls. But he lost his mind and his voice at the same time. Here is Gus Johnson calling the Indiana touchdown late in the Hoosiers win. Mendoza. In trouble! It's out!
Starting point is 01:31:49 That's not! Wow! Unbelievable! Give him the eyes with Joe. Fan or not a fan? Well, it's, it really can run both ways. I don't think he forced it. But even if you don't force it, and that's just how you feel,
Starting point is 01:32:16 you're also a broadcaster for a game that has to maintain some semblance of a professional call. Does that make sense to you? Yes, but the thing that I will say is that is stereotypical Gus Johnson. like if that was not if that was an out of left field type of moment of he never does these type of things. Yeah, I would say a little bit too much. But that
Starting point is 01:32:38 is what Gus Johnson is known for having these type of calls that just immediately catch the listeners ear and you have to go replay a million times. Let's what we're doing. Let me ask you this. Do you think Gus Johnson did that because he knew he'd go viral with it? No. I think it's yes.
Starting point is 01:32:55 I think Gus Johnson plays into what he's supposed to do. Yes, but also when you watch that play, I mean, how do you not react that way? It was one of the greatest catches you'll ever seen in a college football game. It was fantastic. Like my dad's an IU alum, and he even calls me after that, and he's losing his voice. He does not care about football whatsoever. He likes baseball.
Starting point is 01:33:18 He is losing his absolute mind as Omar Cooper's foot barely stays in bounds. So it's like, at that standpoint, yeah, I think that it makes sense that Gus Johnson, who, again, probably you are right, plays into the charade of being the dude who is known for the iconic viral calls on Twitter. He probably knew what was coming. But that's, I think, how you're supposed to react to a catch like that. It was one in a lifetime. I would say this.
Starting point is 01:33:46 If you love Gus Johnson, you loved every bit of it. If you thought Gus was embellishing, you thought, that's Gus being Gus again. So I don't think you change your opinion, even though the play was incredible. I don't know if you heard this earlier call, but we did find an alternative broadcast of the Texans game this weekend. Do you hear about this? No, I didn't. Jonathan, let's go to the Stingley Interception. This is from an alternative feed.
Starting point is 01:34:09 This is not Ion Eagle. This is not Mark Vandermere. This is not Jacksonville Radio. This is just some dude calling a Stingley I-N-T. Duce in them. Throw. Picked! Oh!
Starting point is 01:34:23 Stingley one-hands it! Stingley one hands it! Picked! Picked! Picked! Oh my God! Oh my God! Stingley!
Starting point is 01:34:36 Is that like barstool? You know what? I don't even know who this is. John, is that barstool? No, it's not. No, it's not. Oh, my God. Let me see if I can tell you who it is, okay?
Starting point is 01:34:47 So we got one more for you here. Just here is, this is this dude, or whoever this dude is, doing the Mills touchdown run. Listen to this. Mills shotgun takes a snap. Looking, looking. He's going to run the ball. He's running the ball. Mills dies.
Starting point is 01:35:02 Touchdown! Touchdown! Touchdown! Davis Mills runs it in. Davis Mills runs it in. Touchdown! Touchdown! Touchdown!
Starting point is 01:35:14 Touchdown! Davis Mills runs it in! Oh! So that's 100% his brother, because that's the only person who would ever cheer that hard for Davis Mills. This guy's name is Jared. Beedling, and he goes by Jeremy Chuggs on Twitter. That's Chugs?
Starting point is 01:35:35 Oh, my, oh my God. Come on, Chugs. God, that's so performative of him, too. No, because the guy works for this company called Chat Sports, and he comes up with these things every single week where it's like, if you think the Texan should do X, Y, or Z trade, text one in the comment section. And he's such a very nonchalant type of guy when he does these type of bits.
Starting point is 01:35:55 That is so performative. He's got 4,200 followers. He lives in Dallas. They all want in Dallas, the chat sports boys. Got a YouTube page. Imagine that. Are you guys subscribed? No.
Starting point is 01:36:10 Is that another podcast you're going to listen to Matt Thomas? That's one of 90 Texans' podcasts and will not be listening to. I think that's the one you need to subscribe to. So was it a bit for him to do this or was he generally... I think it's a bet. I personally think it's a bet. because Jeremy is not one of these guys that I could imagine actually doing that
Starting point is 01:36:31 on the regular, especially because he would never do that for C.J. Stroud. So why are you doing it for Davis Mills? Nassahed Davis Mills that's just being honest here. There's been so many more moments where CJ's had that type of play and you haven't reacted that way. Jeremy's not listening to show,
Starting point is 01:36:47 but Jeremy won because I've never played a Jeremy Beedling count in my entire life, so I didn't even know he was until about two hours ago. As I'm telling you, Cole, the danger of this for you tab is pretty is pretty profound here. You can find all sorts of crap out there. On the 4U page on Twitter?
Starting point is 01:37:02 On the 4U, yeah, for sure. I, um, sadly, there's way too many things I look at that currently are on my 4U page that probably don't need to exist. Yeah, and don't tell your wife about half those things. I'll address me. All right, 713-212-5-790. 7-1-3-212-5-790. If you want to chime in and all the Texans, did anybody watch a Rockets game last night?
Starting point is 01:37:24 Because that was pretty impressive, too. We'll get to that a little bit. Anything from college football you want to get to as well, including whether or not A&M should jump Indiana in the college football playoff rankings. We'll get to that too. 713-212-5-790. Please join us. Come to say hello on Texans, Rockets, college football.
Starting point is 01:37:43 Even some Astro chatter is certainly welcome. You don't know how to tell the truth. Oh, but I do, ladies and gentlemen. Now, remember, I do like to lie. And Cole, you know. know we've broken bread a couple of times I'm a fantastic liar. You were terrible at it. I've caught you in every single one
Starting point is 01:38:03 whenever I've seen these episodes of Tell the Truth. All right, it's fine. It's fine. Three of the four takes, I'm going to give you, I'm telling you the truth. One, I am not. It's up to you to figure out which one of the form lying with. You ready? Yep. Now, Jonathan bats about 250. Ross bats about 600, so... I'm looking at
Starting point is 01:38:19 275. All right, you are I'll go up and say your 285 back. All right, here we go. Number one, on Tell the Truth this week. I watched a little bit of that Pittsburgh game last night. I watched the way Baltimore has been playing as of late. The Baltimore Ravens are going to win the AFC North, as long as, again, obviously, Lamar Jackson stays healthy.
Starting point is 01:38:40 Okay? They're going to overtake everything there. Number two. The Texans guys are going to get a deal they can't refuse in the offseason. They're going to trade Davis Mills. somebody in the NFL is going to make Davis Mills a starter next season. That's number two. Number three, I know the Chiefs aren't in the playoffs if the season was to end today,
Starting point is 01:39:07 but I don't care. They are still my pick to win the American Football Conference. And number four, the Aggies should be thinking about Mike Elko being quartered by other teams. I think 80 Treb Alberts needs to bump his pay and rework his contract to keep Mike Elko in College Station. Now these opinions do change on the regular.
Starting point is 01:39:35 Sure. So this is how I feel as to today because the reason why I bring up Mike Elko is because there are now so many jobs opening still. Which one of the four am I not telling the truth? I'll recap them again. The Baltimore Ravens are going to win the AMC North. The Texans are going to get a deal
Starting point is 01:39:53 they can't refuse in the off season they're going to trade davis mills i know the texans aren't in the playoffs but if the season ended the day but i don't care when the season ends they will be the afc champions or the aggie should be thinking about mike elko going elsewhere and be smart for treb alberts to bump his pay to keep him in college station which one of the four am i not telling the truth well number one's a fact so it's not a lie they're they're winning the afc north that's for certain he's really believing the chiefs i don't not Hang on. Hang on. Hang on. I think he's telling the truth on Mike Elko, because Mike Elko will get paid this off season. A lot of jobs opening. A lot of jobs. Could be Penn State. And he is from Pennsylvania. He is from New Jersey.
Starting point is 01:40:34 He can go pro at this point, too. I don't think he'll go pro. I think he'll stay. So I think those two are out. I think he's telling the truth on both of them. Matt, what to you is a deal that is so hard for the Texans to pass up regarding a Davis-Mills trade? What would be the package? Mid-round draft pick. So you're saying a third-round pick. Let's start the third or fourth. Okay. I, okay, here's the thing.
Starting point is 01:41:02 If you get a third-round pick for Davis Mills on that one-year contract, you are 100% making that move. Because he's probably worth, I think, a fifth round pick. You're getting your recoupants on what it costs you to go get him. I don't think that they're going to be offering a third-round pick is the question. So a mid-round pick, would you give that up to go hit reset on the back of quarterback position is the main thing. Kansas City still has Patch Mahomes. That's the Trump card. Broncos, Colts, and Cowboys back to back to back.
Starting point is 01:41:34 But does, okay, does Matt really believe that Daniel Indiana Jones is going to actually make it into January? But you're saying the whole league, right, Matt? You're not saying the division. No, he's saying the AFC. AFC. So that would mean the Bills, the Patriots, Colts, Colts, Rockos, Texas. Broncos Chargers. There's no, I'm, uh, I'm taking the Chiefs.
Starting point is 01:41:55 You're taking the Chiefs? I'm taking that. There's no, at this time point, if Matt believes that, I got to take that on that. But I'm taking that one. There's no way. I'm going to be, I'm going to be bullish here. I'm going to go out and say that Matt does not believe that the Texans will get an offer for Davis Mills, a third round pick to turn it into, we're giving up our backup quarterback.
Starting point is 01:42:18 I think he's lying on that because I don't think he believes. that Davis Mills is going to go for a third round pick. So you think I'm lying about Davis Mills? Jonathan, you think I'm lying about the Chiefs? Here we go. Guys, the Baltimore Ravens are going to win the AFC North. Yep. Okay, the Steelers are totally, I mean,
Starting point is 01:42:35 Aaron Rogers was terrible yesterday. And by the way, I know that Joe Burroughs now on a 21-day return for the Bengals. They can't stop a nosebleed defensively. It doesn't really matter when he comes back. So, yeah, the Ravens are going to win the AMC North. I do believe that Treb Albers is going to be pressured to give Mike Yuckel a salary bump.
Starting point is 01:42:52 I mean, look where the Aggies are, guys. They haven't been this way, I don't know, ever. 1939 was the last time they were good. You bump the guy's salary up. I think the AFC is so wide open that a team like the chiefs who are on the outside looking in can run the table and win some games. So I do believe the chiefs are still my pick to win the AFC. I'm going to remind him of this every the next three Mondays.
Starting point is 01:43:18 The next three Mondays, I'm going to remind him of this. The Texans can't move away from Davis Mills. C.J. Strouds had back-to-back concussions. And even if they got a decent round pick, he makes decent money for a backup, not extraordinary money, extraordinary money, but the reality is you need him as an insurance policy. And if your insurance policy for one game or two games a year can throw for 292 yards, I know it was against Jacksonville,
Starting point is 01:43:43 you've got to keep him. Because CJ gets hurt. He just does. So I don't think the Texans would trade Davis Mills just about under any circumstance. So Jonathan, you're wrong. Cole, you were able to figure out which one I was lying. You know what I'm telling you the truth. New it.
Starting point is 01:44:01 Oh, that feels so good to be able to land this. I'm going to hate watching the Chiefs from here on now. You know what? Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Why you hate watching the Chief? Who wants to see them once again go? No, because there's no way you believe the Chiefs can take it all.
Starting point is 01:44:15 Oh, I believe it. You know why? I believe me the reasons why. They're so smart. as a young football team, Drake May is not going to run the table to win the AFC. The Colts, Daniel Jones has regressed the last couple of weeks. He's human.
Starting point is 01:44:28 Let me who else. Los Angeles. The Chargers have numerous issues. Denver? Denver can't score at all. Tell me why Kansas City can't win those games. I'll trump all of you. There's one reason. You have the best quarterback in the NFL to bail you out
Starting point is 01:44:45 of trouble. That's all I need to say. You got two tight end. You got five wide receivers receivers you got top 10 defense a great play caller and you read off a buy week can we agree that the homes have looked sloppy this entire season there's not one good game you can go back to like yeah my homes is the no he's progressed okay the other other quarterbacks can we also agree that he's bought himself enough equity over the last nine years to be able to have a bad season to then be able to put it all together in the playoffs we'll we'll rehash this conversation in three weeks they better win these next are you're gonna like you're gonna be like pepper me over this
Starting point is 01:45:16 I will. No, I will, because there's no way. I just don't believe that. They have had the hardest schedule in the NFL this season, period of the story. I'll tell you this, Jonathan, here's the way I look at it. Matt knows for a fact that Texans are not getting a third-round pick for Davis-Mills, therefore you can still believe that the Chiefs can win it. Nobody is paying a third-round pick for Davis-Mills. I agree with you today. I'm just... And I'm not giving them up for a fourth.
Starting point is 01:45:39 Like, I'm giving them up for a day-two pick. You give me a top of him. I'm not giving them up because my quarterback goes down once a year. That's just the reality of it. Two concussions back-to-back years. I won't push back in time. Davis Mills is a great insurance policy.
Starting point is 01:45:52 He just is. He's up. In the great words of Matt Thomas, he's fine. He's fine. Yeah, I mean, put it this way. If Davis Mills is running your team for 17 weeks, you're not making the playoffs. I mean, Davis-N-N-No, you're going at best 6-11. Right.
Starting point is 01:46:05 So why would anybody want to overpay for somebody that? I mean, would you, would you have Jacoby percent or Davis-Mills? No, he looked kind of nice. No, he looked awful yesterday. He won me fancy because if I had seen. Seattle's defense. They got me 22 points. I mean, is Davis Mills all of a sudden turn Arizona into a winning football team?
Starting point is 01:46:21 Probably not. No. Does Jacob Brousette, I mean, does Davis Mills turn the Browns into a playoff contender? No. Does he at least turn them into a five-win team? That's a question. But you're not paying a third round pick for that. Exactly.
Starting point is 01:46:34 That's the point is that you're not giving up anything more than a fifth round pick for that. Jonathan, you sound raw spitters, what you sound. No, you know what? This probably is my saltiest loss. I'm not glad. It is your saltiest loss. Found a thousand, baby. All right, Jim and Lyitz, we'll get to you in a couple minutes.
Starting point is 01:46:46 you want to back up, Jim, 713, 212-1-2-5-790, 7-1-2-5-7-90. It is the Matt Thomas show with Ross. With a reminder coming up in the next hour, we're going to hear from Jacksonville Media. They're pissed off. And we've got, believe it or not, today, all things about Paul Taggleboo and Lenny Wilkins. Men, they both rest in peace. 1243 here on 790. All right, we got some breaking news.
Starting point is 01:47:12 Let's go. That's one. that's two all right it's three and a torres stop there and it's a fraud breaking news oh boy
Starting point is 01:47:30 I knew it too but what is it what do you mean how do you know it was fraudulent because I have Twitter pulled up on four different apps right now my laptop my phone
Starting point is 01:47:39 my work laptop I would have seen it the big rib is back baby is it really Is it really? Let's go. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Really another one.
Starting point is 01:47:52 Hit one more. One more breaking news. One more. I didn't realize that Matt Thomas and I were the only two McRib stands that won on the menu year round. McRib for life. That's up with the four and the L for life. I have an hour break. I'm going to McDonald's after this.
Starting point is 01:48:08 Yes, you are. I am going to do McDonald's. Tomorrow, why don't you bring McRibs for everybody? I will. And I will buy. Now, here's the only problem. I went to McRiblocator.com. There are only four locations, according to McRiblocator.com, that's serving them right now.
Starting point is 01:48:25 Is one in Houston? 9110 West Gosling in the Woodlands. Does not. Here are the ones that are. 7,000 Garth Road in Baytown. 8718 Spring Cypress Road in Spring. 4503 Garth Road in Baytown and 1770 Decker driving Baytown
Starting point is 01:48:49 Why is Baytown getting on McRibs and we're not? Sincerely I mean like I'm not asking that we don't need to have I'll drive to spring I mean I'll drive to the woodlands My parents love there I don't really care about that Right right right Really none in Houston
Starting point is 01:49:03 None in Cyprus Like I'll drive the 20 minutes of the Cyprus When if I have to Well here's I mean This could be a false thing too I mean I don't know how legit this McRiblocator.com I mean I'm going to McDonald's after this, just this check.
Starting point is 01:49:14 I am. I'm not kidding. Yeah, we don't, the only McDonald's I can think of by our office would have to be somewhere in Westheimer, correct? It's the one. It's right across the post oak. It's literally right across and post oak. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 01:49:25 So here's what you got to do. I want you to call us in a one o'clock hour. I will call you in the one o'clock hour. I'm not, I'm not joking. When the McRib turns back, I come on the first day, I always get a large fry and a Dr. Okay. And then if it is, then tomorrow, because you're going to do, you're going to do,
Starting point is 01:49:39 you're going to a couple hours with me tomorrow from 12 to two. Yeah. So you can come in and your way in and buy McRibbs. I will be bringing in McRibbs from you, me, and Jonathan, because we will all indulge the greatest food that has ever been assembled. The greatest fast food sandwich out there not named the Big Mac. Oh, I think it's better than the Big Mac. Well, that's not go crazy.
Starting point is 01:49:57 I'm sorry, Matt, I'm not even joking. I remember the first time I had a McRib at nine years old, and I have begged McDonald's ever since. Who cares about the 24-hour breakfast menu? Hey, our caller BJ said he just went through McDonald's. It's coming this week if it's not at the every location. Well, I'm going to the one right across the street. I'm going to be demanding that they give me a McRibb.
Starting point is 01:50:16 Good. Good. We will eat McRibs, and we'll do a video of it, and we'll show Ross what he's missing on it, because he hates it. He's a food snob, period. Why does he hate McRibbs? Is he a communist when it comes to this? He is hoity-toity. I want to sit in line for three hours and wait for barbecue. You know what?
Starting point is 01:50:34 I'll go through the 10-minute drive-thru of McDonald's and be just fine with the bread. I will be very much indulging in that fake pork meat that's slavit and barbecue sauce with the barbecue sauce with the barbecue sauce with the bread. With onions and extra pickles. Onions, extra pickles, fries, unsweet tea, let's go. Switch to a Dr. Pepper, but still, you and I are speaking the same language, brother. That's what I'm talking about. Oh, my God. That's why you're always welcome on this show.
Starting point is 01:50:54 Jim on 790, thank you for holding in good afternoon. You bet. Hey, yeah, your three, your truce in a lie was a laydown. They're not, as long as DJ keeps getting hurt, they're not letting Lucas Mills go. He gets you one or two wins a year. He's worth it. But that's not why I call it. The reason I called was, I watched the game from home yesterday, and I cheat.
Starting point is 01:51:17 I'll tell you I cheat. I record the game. I started about 40 minutes late. That way, I don't have to watch commercials. I can fast forward all the commercials. So I'm watching it, and I'm thinking, ah, they're down. And I look up. Half the people have left the upper bowl at Reliant or NRG.
Starting point is 01:51:37 And about a third have left the bottom bowl, and I'm like, I'm going to turn it off, My wife's like, she's looking at it online, and she goes, don't turn it off. I'm like, what? No way, man. They're down by, they're down by damn near 20 points in the fourth quarter. They got a backup quarterback in. It's over, cooked, done. One of the best games I have ever seen in my whole life, especially being a lifelong Houston Texan fan.
Starting point is 01:52:03 There you go. You know what? I hear the excitement in your voice, and it makes me happy because people don't have enough excitement in their voices sometime. Yeah, good for you. Good for you. And by the way, nice move on the 40-minute delay. The problem is I could not stay away from Twitter. So my thing is fantasy.
Starting point is 01:52:22 We'll tell me the updates. So I will see the update of so-and-so to get in the end zone. I have Travis E.T.N. I would have seen he was in the end zone on a 40-minute delay. Okay, well, that's where the game's over. Are you ready for my son? Let me take him a little peek into my life here. My oldest, who is a diehard Texas Tech fan, Prague graduate of the
Starting point is 01:52:41 Texas Tech University. He got dressed up to go to the Renaissance Festival on Saturday. I applaud him for that, actually. Okay. So that was strike one. That was a strike? I'd give him a compliment. I'd give him a cheer for the three cheers versus three strikes.
Starting point is 01:52:57 I'm a costume for the Renaissance Festival. Was it over under 150? I don't know. I have not spoken to him. He's at work right now. Okay. Well, ask him if it was over under 150. If it was at 125, I give him a cheer. Not a strike. So he dressed up that number two he said i'm going to go and i don't want to know about the b yu tech game
Starting point is 01:53:20 he's going to turn his phone off and he did he came home after he's staying with us right now okay hashtag saving money and so he came home and watched the game organically and i do applaud him for that so while i give him a little bit of crap for going to the um renaissance festival one going in costume too, I do give him credit for not looking at his phone to see how BYU tech did. See, I give him a strike for going to the Wrenfest when college football was on television. I would wait until Sunday.
Starting point is 01:53:53 Because again, with Texas Tech being... I have been to the Renaissance Festival one time. In your entire life? In my entire life. Oh, I'll take you. And all they did was run and go, Would ye like a turkey leg? It's a fantastic turkey leg, Matt Thomas.
Starting point is 01:54:07 It's the best bar of care. It's delicious, but I don't need to go spend on. $150 on a turkey leg. And you're not spending $150. And then he dressed up. You're spending my son. You're spending $185 on an experience where you're sitting in the hot swattery son of November watching a josting match go on while drinking an ice cold beer in one hand,
Starting point is 01:54:25 shooting a bow and arrow in the other hand, and having a turkey leg surrounding around your neck. Like, how are you not enjoying that? I want my son living with me to save money to get his own apartment. I do not want him spending $100 and whatever dollars it was. ridiculous costume. I would gladly spend $150. I will give your son $150 right now to go enjoy and take you to the Wrenfest.
Starting point is 01:54:48 I'm going to ask him right now. I'm going to ask him how much it cost. The costume? I will match that price if you dress up. If you dress up to go to the Renfest and I can film it. I will pay that price. Not on my dime. Roger on 790.
Starting point is 01:55:04 Hello, Roger. Hey, how's going on, guys? Oh, man, everything was great. This weekend, with the only hiccup being the Spurs, you know, kind of like giving us three-pointed death to no end. I just don't know what happened in that game, but everything else I can't complain about. Even your, even the Couges came back and won that game. Yeah, Nick Ribs, I'm thinking really seriously thinking about, you know, just buying five or
Starting point is 01:55:35 six of them just for a side spread on the Thanksgiving table. I don't care. Yes. Yes. What a great idea. They're going to be there. They're going to be there just as an option. Hey, you don't have to eat them. But, hey, there they are if you want to.
Starting point is 01:55:48 I'm having one. That's for sure. Yeah, for sure. We don't even really do. I mean, we don't like turkey. Like, at the next couple of days, what do you do with turkey? You pretty much give it to the animals. I'm doing steak, for sure.
Starting point is 01:56:02 Sorry, don't do it. If you must have paid the price, Roger, I don't doubt you, dude. Go for it. steak sides traditional side thank food size all good and side uh side option of uh big ribs baby let's go let's go thank you roger
Starting point is 01:56:17 have a good one thank you very much yeah a platter of mcribs on thanksgiving what a wonderful treat to give you my family and you know what it's a gift that keeps on giving matt thomas all right by the way i just got a word from cameron a hundred dollars he's been in his costume you know what good that's a fair price that has a very fair price cameron that helps pay for like In his apartment when he gets down the road.
Starting point is 01:56:39 He ain't getting an apartment. He stayed with you forever. God, he's going to be with me for 20 more years. All right. Hey, you need to go get a... Okay, you're going to McDonald's down the street. I'm quite literally getting in my car as soon as I get off the mic and going to McDonald's and go get us an update on McRib and call us...
Starting point is 01:56:55 Call from the drive-thru. I will call from the drive-thru. And get some fries for Jonathan. He's hungry. Jonathan, what do you want? You know what, actually? I'll get to get you something. Wait, no, I got to eat these leftovers with my girlfriend.
Starting point is 01:57:07 give me if I don't. Oh, you got to definitely, don't forget it. So tomorrow, tomorrow, if there's McRibbs tomorrow at the location near our office, I'm buying, so don't bring any of food. We'll figure that out.
Starting point is 01:57:17 All right. Coming back, final hour of the Matt Thomas show and Ross here at 12.58, here on Sports Talk 790. This is the Matt Thomas show with Ross. I want to shout out one of our listeners, Peyton. And Peyton told me, moments ago that you can go to the McDonald's app and you could put in your current location
Starting point is 01:57:43 and the McDonald's nearest to you which would be for me on Kingwood Drive and the Kingwood Drive location has the McRibb so go to go to your McDonald's app and let the magic happen oh this is fantastic this is let me take some the Texans win yesterday the Rockets win yesterday the Cougars win Friday the McRib is back I mean things happen in fours right I thought it was threes but we'll go with it
Starting point is 01:58:18 I like it well death only happens in threes Jonathan it's the it's the other stuff that happens in fours you remember you were right with that that was like three days in a row three deaths in that one week we had two deaths already we had Lenny Wilkins and Paul Taglebu see you're bad you're bad jinks
Starting point is 01:58:33 I don't know anybody else dying today I don't know well I mean There would be people that will die for sure. All right. Oh, man, I'm in such a better mood now. Now, my cold's not nearly as bad. My voice has got a little extra provoidal to it right now. You notice this?
Starting point is 01:58:48 How much better I feel now? Maybe the doctor's just all you need, sir, is to calm you down, make you feel better. Let's go to the phones, talk to some people. 104 on Sports Talk 790. We've got, believe it or not, coming up at 150. It is all things about Lenny Wilkins, the longtime NBA coach. and Paul Taglibu would be a long-time NFL commissioner. Let's talk to EZ at 105 on 7.
Starting point is 01:59:13 I mean, Easy, what's the good word? First of all, on 59 in the Litter York, the McRid is back, sir. Oh, hell, yeah. I was about to go get a couple of hamburgers, and I saw the sign. I was like, ooh, extra pickles, please. Yes, sir, and the shaved onions. Make sure you get them plenty of shaved. Yeah, yeah, and you can't talk to nobody after that,
Starting point is 01:59:35 because your brother is going to seem like crazy, but that's fine. I wasn't going to talk to nobody after that. I had a couple of things that I wanted to ask you about. That's Saturday, the Friday game, was it Saturday against the Spurs? Was there a lot of flops that you saw that shouldn't have been called, even that flagrant that was called? Should that have been better officiating? You know, they look at those things easy with a fine,
Starting point is 02:00:05 Not like a microscope, but they look at those things over and over again. I think it was a man Thompson got called for a flicking, correct? When he went for the swipe, I didn't think there was anything that was so noticeable. I could have seen the calls flipped either direction on a lot of that stuff. Flopping is becoming a problem in the NBA, and it has been for a long period of time. The only thing is that the NBA is trying to do a better job of catching the floppers. They're calling technical files now more than they ever had before. So I'm encouraged that this is going to stop.
Starting point is 02:00:35 This is not going to be a current trend. I got a Renaissance story for you. I went. The only time I've been, it was during a field trip in high school. And my teacher, which was my English teacher at that point, she bought us a couple of rounds of beers. I paid for them, but she bought them. And we yay drank the yay ale at that point.
Starting point is 02:01:00 18 years old Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute So you went to it Did you go on a school trip Or was this just a trip that your teacher had to be? Yeah, it was a school trip We went on a bus We were in a school trip
Starting point is 02:01:13 And this is my high school teacher From the ninth grade And then in the 12th grade She was also my English teacher Okay And she bought her the ring of beers That's the funniest stuff Are you Z?
Starting point is 02:01:27 Were she What was her point? in doing that because she wanted to be the cool teacher or was she trying to I'll let you finish what was her point I took her side I took her side and asked her for it and she said yeah and it was not just me it was like five of us so she she bought us all a couple of rounds of beer you're pretty proud of yourself aren't you a little bit I mean that was a long time ago but by the way shout out to your son Texas Tech my name is going there now yes
Starting point is 02:02:00 I love Texas. Yeah, my nieces go on there now. He's going to be great in what he does because that's a great school. Great game against BYU. And I love you guys. And next time I see you, I'm going to bring you some more halls like I did the last time we were at the Edo. And I'm going to hang up and listen. All right, easy.
Starting point is 02:02:20 Good to hear from my friend. Thank you very much for the phone call. Yeah, I like tech. You know, look, I didn't like when Texas Tech being my Cougars. I get that. But I respect the hall of Texas Tech. and you know what they're doing the right way they're paying players Texas Tech's defense is exemplary
Starting point is 02:02:35 why they pay players to go to West Texas so we got to just acknowledge we have to acknowledge Texas Tech couldn't draw flies when it came to good defensive players until Cody Johnson said I'm going to write y'all checks and he did and his checks have directly helped Texas Tech go to the college football playoff
Starting point is 02:02:55 and I'm presuming they're going to go because they were really good and my guess is they'll play BYU in the Big 12 championship game again if everything holds if they lose that game, they'll still go. Yeah, Tex-Tex astonishing. And you know what I've also,
Starting point is 02:03:11 I don't know if y'all caught this or not, but the game day crew is there. The show is really good. It's too long for me. I can't watch three hours of college game day just because that's just too much. And McAfee kind of drives me nuts. But I will tell you, I love the kicking contest.
Starting point is 02:03:34 Yeah, you do. I live for that kicking contest. You think it's legit, like, actually. Why wouldn't it be? I don't know. I just, I thought it was kind of, you know, I don't know. Now, I don't know how they, now, to your point, though, I don't know how they pick the kids.
Starting point is 02:03:49 Yeah, you see what I'm saying? I don't know. Like, that's like, you pick somebody at the crowd for real? I don't know how that goes. So the dude at Texas Tech on Front Saturday, he's offered $500,000. and they get this money correct this is like apparently they do and first of all whoever's sponsor now and that's probably a miss on their know because i don't even know who does it but i guarantee you espion this i ain't cutting checks by himself i mean there's got to be somebody that's behind this
Starting point is 02:04:12 so the dude misses the first kick he he didn't win a shank but it was definitely wide left so then everyone's like one more kick one more kick one more kick one more kick and so he goes okay i'll give you two hundred fifty thousand dollars and then we'll kick in two hundred fifty thousand to the school for scholarships. So he's still kicking for $500,000, although he's only going to get half of it. And the kid trained it. He took his shoe off, Jonathan, and made the kick.
Starting point is 02:04:41 Oh, yeah, he was ready. So my question is, how do you apply for that? And how much time do you get advanced notice do you get? Because if you're going to be kicking for a half-milly, don't you want a few warm-ups? See, that's what I'm saying. If it's right on the spot, I respect it. Like, okay, you know.
Starting point is 02:04:58 Like, for instance, if you gave me a half million dollars to go kick a football, you could give me 500 times. I would never do it. Now, could I get the ball off the ground? Yes. But could I kick it 30 yards? Probably not. Now, my son, who's 25, who kicked when he was in Little League,
Starting point is 02:05:17 you give him some warm-ups, he probably could do it. That's also a lot of pressure, though, too. I got to ask somebody to ESPN and how he do that. Because, again, the kid, was a soccer style kick, he kicked it like soccer style, and he had his foot, he took his shoe off, missed the first one badly, and then drain the second one. But I'm living for this. It's like the half-court shots during the college basketball game day. I love that. This is awesome. So good for them for ESP and for giving me a reason to watch
Starting point is 02:05:47 because I never want to miss those kicks during the pregame show. Let's talk to Craig at 111 on Sports Talk 790. Craig, good afternoon to you. Good afternoon, Matt. This is the glorious day. I just had my first McRib of the year. Yes, Lord. My life is now complete. Yep. I couldn't, as soon as I saw it on the app the other day, I had to let you know.
Starting point is 02:06:10 And so I was like, I have to have this first thing Monday morning. And this was my lunch. This will be my dinner. And this will be my lunch and dinner for the next week, I hope. Yeah. I will, by the way, I will gladly run them out of it. Yeah, but they are only on the app. If you have people in your life, like I do like Ross, who shame us for loving the McRib,
Starting point is 02:06:28 get them out of your life see he's not one of us he's not a beautiful bald man like we are you know correct correct that's all that luscious locks that he claims he has it's it's just sickening but yeah it's only on the app right this time i don't think they're advertising you yet that's why we need to get the mcgrip crew out there to sacrifice themselves and get as many of the grids as possible so here's what we have to do craig anybody that goes out for a mcrib today send me a photo send me your location so we could tell people about it, correct? I did. I did. So I already tweeted
Starting point is 02:07:02 you. It's over here. I got two locations in Cyprus that have it. All right. Thank you very much, friend. Thank you for the phone call. And thank you for your service. By the way, Matt, for that Pat McAfee, yeah. Matt just called the caller and said that he pays that out of his own pocket. Nobody else helps him. Are you serious? That's what the, that's, I don't know how true sources, but that's what he came
Starting point is 02:07:23 and he called immediately and told me that. Well, I'll tell you what. If McAfee, he's making I wonder if Mac if he's making like 10, 15 million a year
Starting point is 02:07:31 and that part of that money goes towards the contest. Yeah, it can be a text writer probably, huh?
Starting point is 02:07:36 No, I think he's like, I think ESP could say to him, we're going to give you $15 million and you're going to give up three of it
Starting point is 02:07:43 to this college kicking bit. You know what I mean? I get you. I get you. Well, um, yeah,
Starting point is 02:07:52 I mean, look, I love the contest, but I don't love it enough. to give away my own money for it. All right. We've got to get a live update right now really quickly. Cole Thompson joining us from the McDonald's across the street on Post Oak at 610.
Starting point is 02:08:07 Cole, what do you got for us? I just paid for my first McRib of 2025. Yes, Lord. It is beautiful. It is delicious. I am excited for my first bite. Matt Thomas, it's back. It's back.
Starting point is 02:08:24 It's back. McRib is back. We're happy. It's back. Thank you, Cole. I think I just had movement. I just, we'll be honest with you. And thank God Ross is not here to rag on it.
Starting point is 02:08:40 He'd be right on your parade right now. Oh, my God. He'll be destroying me over this. That's okay. In McRib, we trust. Oh, man, I'm in a good mood now. My middle son, Peyton, is home. My son spent less $125 on his costume at the Renaissance Festival.
Starting point is 02:09:01 The McRibbs are back. The Texans won. The Rockets won. The Cougars won. My Cougar basketball team's number one in the country. What could possibly go wrong between now and the end of the show? 713-212-5-790. 7-1-3-212-5-7-90.
Starting point is 02:09:17 We don't like to make fun of other media in other cities. We just have to understand what they're going through. And we'll tell you about that coming up in just a couple minutes right now. is with us at 122-1-790. Alan, thank you for waiting, and good afternoon. Hey, thanks for having me on, Matt. I'm avid listener, first-time caller. Thank you very much.
Starting point is 02:09:37 It means a lot to know. So, yeah, I just want to give a shout out to the Wilkins family. I mean, that's like basketball legendary status coming out of the game, you know what I'm saying? So I think we should pay attention a lot. to that, because Lenny Wilkins brought a lot to this game, especially put Cleveland basketball on the map, because I mean, no one even heard
Starting point is 02:10:04 of Cleveland Cavalier basketball until my man got there, Brad Dard, and all the boys in there. So I just, you know, I think we should pay homage to Lenny Wilkins a little more than what people are really mentioning. Well, the reality is this. You know,
Starting point is 02:10:22 Lenny's probably greatest achievement was winning the 79 championship of the Sonics, but that was almost, almost 50 years ago. I mean, he just has been, you know, he's in late 80s. I mean, it's not a talk show conversation, but if you put on the NBA channels or you go to various websites, you
Starting point is 02:10:38 would find not only his success as a player, but as a coach as well. And truly one of the nicest people apparently ever to walk the earth. So as my buddy softy, KGR in Seattle Radio says, you can't find anybody in America that said a bad thing about Lenny Wilkins, which is hard because you remember
Starting point is 02:10:53 he's coached a lot of teams and have a lot of players over the years. So, yeah, absolutely one of the all-time grades. You really can't. You really can't, because I had the chance to meet him when I was playing baseball at the University of Washington, and he is just a class act. That's really all I can say about the man. He's a class act. Literally, Alan, thank you for the phone call, and rest in peace, my man. That's to Lenny Wilkins. And we'll be talking about him out during, believe it or not, today also also with the paul taglibu who passed away yesterday after a long illness so uh and we hate to do that unbelieve or not but reality is it gives us a chance to kind of honor these guys
Starting point is 02:11:32 and we don't normally get to it uh i don't want to give away too much on taglibu because some of the questions unbelieve or not will be revolving around him but um you know he was the one that kind of had to go through he was the commissioner on record when 9-11 hit he was the commissioner that had to try to get, they were to take the Super Bowl away from Phoenix and Arizona if they were not going to pass MLK Day. So he was very influential even beyond the legislation. He also expanded the NFL, and it was on his watch that the Texans got their franchise. So, you know, look, commissioners are never very popular to begin with.
Starting point is 02:12:15 I understand that. You know, everybody gets boot. Matter of fact, I was in Oklahoma City for the Rockets game. him against the thunder and adam silver the commissioner of the NBA was booed when he got announced i just you know it's one of those things it's low it's low-hanging fruit it's a it's a very rewarding job it pay all the commissioners i've been around all my life are very highly compensated and then ultimately they also have to bear the responsibility to be in the fall guy for the owners that they work for the commissioner works for the owners and if the owners want to
Starting point is 02:12:48 make one guy a bad guy like roger godell certainly has been paul tagli boo bud's ceiling uh rob manfred there's a price with that you want to get boo in the arena that's one thing you want to get paid thirty five million dollars a year you'll probably want i'm doing it i would do it for 35 million dollars if i was if i was public enemy number one and the people that were my bosses the 29 or 30 or 31 other owners like what i did i could live with that all right um the question i have on the Twitter poll today was about how are you feeling about the Texans performance after the game yesterday
Starting point is 02:13:24 and a poll quire is out there and it is how happy are you after the Texans win? Sixty eight percent of you say it's a gutsy victory. Love it. 32% of you said the Jags choke, no big deal. Jacksonville Media is not happy. We'll let you hear from them next.
Starting point is 02:13:40 We got believe it or not coming up in 25 minutes. 713-212-5-79 if you want to jump in. 7-13-212.2.2. 5.790, by the way, Texans and Titans play Sunday in Nashville, and the Texans are currently an eight-point favorite in that game on the road. 7-13-212-5-7-90. You know what? Remind me, Jonathan, when Ross gets back to shame him, I got so many nice people sending me tweets, messages on Instagram and on Facebook about they're going to get their McRibbs today. They have shot pictures of it.
Starting point is 02:14:18 Ross, shut your bum ass up. McRibb is America sandwich. You just had a whole community. You know, it's kind of awesome. You know what? The McRib community is coming together as one, and I'm here for it. All right, we're going to hear from Jackson Media in just a second here because they are pissed. Let's go to Matthew at 131 on the Matt Thomas show with Ross.
Starting point is 02:14:40 Matthew, good afternoon to you. Hey, can you hear me? Yes, sir. Hey, I have a, so I wanted to talk about T.J. Shroud is the main topic, and I'll start by saying I have a couple thousand dollars invested in sports cards, so maybe there's like a little side deal that I've got, why it's such an interest to me. I don't know, and I feel like we're being surface level talking about Jacksonville media and how their reaction is and everything else, but there's definitely some issues with the Texans,
Starting point is 02:15:14 and I just, like, I think I looked at all of, I didn't watch the game. I was at the Skate Marine doing my daughter's birthday yesterday, so, but I heard and I saw the game cast and everything, and I think all three touchdowns that Davis Mills was a part of, two were passing, one was a rushing, they were all in the red zone, okay? And prior to this game, we've had major issues in the red zone. So, and that points the fingers at C.J. Stroud, like, I guess everybody loves him. And like I said, I got the sporting sport card thing, and everybody loves him. Every time he gets post-game interviews, he thinks his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,
Starting point is 02:15:53 and everybody loves him for that. And obviously, the man's got talent. He's good. But it's like maybe he's not the guy, which I hate that. I don't know. I just wanted to know what you guys, like, honest opinions of that was. Well, I'm glad you asked for my honest opinion, and my honest opinion. and my honest opinion is
Starting point is 02:16:15 C.J. Stroud is 10 times a quarterback of Davis Mills is. That's just a reality. You're taking one game sample size against a very subpar Jacksonville team and putting it up against what has turned out to be a very nice NFL career for C.J. Stroud.
Starting point is 02:16:31 Is it an elite NFL career? No. Had there been some bumps along the road? Absolutely, Matthew. But the reality is that it wasn't because Davis Mills did things yesterday that C.J. Stroud couldn't do. It was that there was a quarterback on the Texan side line, regardless of who it was, could have done the same type of thing.
Starting point is 02:16:49 Jacksonville's defense, offense, could not move the ball in the fourth quarter. Trevor Lawrence was terrible, and the Texas took advantage of it. But to try to compare the two quarterbacks, I don't think it's a fair comparison, especially because CJ has such a larger sample size than Davis Mills has the last three years. True, and I definitely don't want to, I'm not comparing, I wouldn't compare it. I wouldn't compare C.J. to Davis, but it just, I mean, if you forced me to, I would look at Davis Mills game yesterday and then C.J. Stroud's previous, what, seven or eight games of this season, as far as, like I noted that, you know, the red zone, we're all, everybody is aware of, you know. Look, there's no quarterback. Thank you, Matthew, for the phone call. There's no controversy whatsoever.
Starting point is 02:17:39 C.J. Stroud is the quarterback. He is the future of. this team. Davis Mills is just a nice backup. I mean, that's just a reality. The backup quarterback is going to get a little bit more run. But if you gave me a 15 game sample size of C.J. Stroud versus a 15 game sample size of Davis Mills,
Starting point is 02:17:59 I'm going to tell you that every single time, that 15 game sample size of C.J. Strau is going to be way more effective. I'm just, I mean, I don't really, I mean, I don't really, know any other way to say it. Everybody loves the backup until he becomes a starter. It's like people left Case Keenan when DeShanna Watson went down.
Starting point is 02:18:21 Well, I mean, Deshawn Watson until he got hurt was an established NFL star and quarterback. Case Keenom was a nice backup, but Case Keenon was not a regular starter. So I've just, Davis played well yesterday. Davis is an incredible insurance policy. See, if this team is going to do anything, it's with C.J. Strata quarterback. long term not davis mills all right let's go to uh jackson real quick before we go back to more your phones uh this is uh 10 10 radio guy in jacksonville doing the first 90 seconds of his post game show after the jaguars give up the three touchdown lead and lost as they were outscored
Starting point is 02:19:03 26 nothing late in the game yesterday it would be very easy for me to come on right now and just completely flip out about what transpired in Houston, Texas. You have every right. It would be very easy. Here's what I'm going to tell you. And I'm going to be calm, and I'm going to say it in a monotone, or in a tone of voice
Starting point is 02:19:24 where I don't have to completely freak at what happened. The Jaguars were up three touchdowns against Davis Mills in the fourth quarter of a division game that would have buried their division rival and would have put the Jaguars in a situation where analytics tell you
Starting point is 02:19:46 they would make the playoffs at a 70% clip at 6 and 3. And they lost to Davis Mills by being outscored 26 to nothing in the fourth quarter, getting physically whipped on the offensive line and the defensive line. I've lived in Jacksonville, Florida, the entire existence of the Jaguars. I've been lucky enough to be on sports radio stations in this market. dating back to August of 2002, and I was here on opening day of 1010XL in April of 2007. This is not hyperbole. This is not overstating this. If you can tell me a more disheartening regular season loss than what we just saw this afternoon,
Starting point is 02:20:29 I'm all ears, Leon, because I don't think one exists. If you think that's bad, even Smiley TV guy and Jacksonville Television, went on a rain. Here's that, and we'll take some more calls after this, but just to let you go, give you a little sample size. You think we got a bat here in Houston, North Florida, feeling it today. 29 to 10 in the fourth quarter with the Jags leading against the Houston Texans. 29 to 10 and you're 6 and 3 with 15 minutes to go. And the Texans are 3 and 6, and you have done what you needed to do, what you're supposed to do against a backup quarterback.
Starting point is 02:21:11 29 to 10 with 14 minutes to go. 29 to 10 with 13 minutes to go. 29 to 10, 12, 16 to go. Texans get a touchdown in a two point. Hang on a second. Jaguars go three and out. Texans come back and score again. Jags get another three and out.
Starting point is 02:21:28 Texans drive at about 97 yards for the game winner. Jags get the ball back. Just get it to the 50. Give Cam Little a shot. Can't even do that. What a freaking disgrace. What a disgrace. What an inept performance by a national football league team, allegedly.
Starting point is 02:21:47 They're allegedly a national football league team. They blew a three-touchdown lead in the fourth quarter of an NFL game. I don't have it in front of me. I can't imagine that ever happening before with our Jacksonville Jaguars. My mind is blank right now because I was so sure that the Jags were going to win this game and get to six and three. and show the world that, yes, we are a playoff team potentially. That team that we just watched against a backup quarterback who threw for 2.92. He threw for 292, the backup quarterback.
Starting point is 02:22:25 They're missing two offensive linemen. We can't get to the quarterback. Our starting offensive line played DeNeil Hunter at four sacks. Four sacks. Not a very good team. Jonathan I mentioned this before You and I agree The best part was that cameraman
Starting point is 02:22:43 Going, oh I can't I'm at Oh On live everything He's just getting out He's had those sound effects Oh
Starting point is 02:22:51 Oh Let's go to Lewis At 140 on 790 Lewis Thank you for holding Good afternoon MT
Starting point is 02:23:02 How are you I'm amazing Lewis Thanks for asking Oh well that's fantastic Anyway, I want to talk to you a little bit about the Rockets. I'm bored with this Texan stuff. So a couple of things.
Starting point is 02:23:18 Let me tell you my opinion of yesterday, and I want to see what you think since you're sitting right there. Okay. Reed Shepherd, I think, they have possibly found a position for this guy to basically come in, be a spot shooter. be a pest on defense, and I get it, he's going to get back down a lot. But I think if he continues to do all this other stuff at a nice clip, I think this is the guy that is going to be a big part of our success. And my other point is, and I'll hang, I'll let you, I'll listen. Jabari Smith, man, that was a huge, huge three yesterday.
Starting point is 02:24:06 and I just think that Durant is giving them what they were hoping to get just a calm, calming influence out there and keeping everybody from not panicking. Love your show, and let me hang on and listen. Thanks, Matt. Thank you very much for the phone call. Here's the reality, and I'll make this very succinct because I'm short on time. The Rockets are going to win. championship with multiple people doing the job.
Starting point is 02:24:41 Kevin Durant's going to give you 30 when he needs to. He's not going to give you 30 every night. If you get Jabari and Alpi and a men and a guy like Reed Shepherd off the bench or it's Tari Isson off the bench, you're talking about six guys with high ability to get double-digit numbers. You're going to make it a defensive nightmare for teams. They're not going to shoot 43. percent from three point range all season long that ain't going to happen hopefully they don't
Starting point is 02:25:10 turn the ball over as much as they have done so far they turned it over just six times in the second half yesterday but this team can shoot this team puts a man thompson in that dunker spot and low block scores kevin durant lives at the elbows if alpies going to knock down on occasional three that adds an extra length part of his game offensively and jibari same thing corner threes, mid-range, post-up moves. They're going to score some points, folks. Defense, still work in progress. Turn the ball over too much?
Starting point is 02:25:47 Absolutely. But there's enough stuff here that makes you, should be very excited for what should be a very fun rest of the NBA season. Let's talk to Rockets Keith at 143. Rockets Keith, good afternoon to you. Hey, man, how are you? amazing i appreciate you're asking hey i got a proposal for you

Starting point is 02:26:45 they ask you a bunch of questions. And one of the things they ask for your ID and I have a military ID and anybody wins once it would show a military idea and they get the tickets. Whatever it is,
Starting point is 02:26:57 they win. All right. It should be an annual Matt Thomas Veterans Day, believe it or not. Well, definitely, Veterans Day will be the topic of conversation. What else you got on the Rockets?
Starting point is 02:27:10 Well, they look good yesterday. I got tickets to go on Wednesday. Who do you think we got coming up that's going to get with some problems shortly? You mean on this? Calendar-wise? Not this week. I think Washington, Portland, and Houston, Orlando should all be wins. Cleveland on the 19th will be a tough challenge in Cleveland for sure.

He took part in a game in which the opposing team fixed the outcome of the game in favor of Georgetown. Believe it or not? They're not. That's a believe it. That's why he's big in the anti-cheony.
