They're all big shows, but let's face it.
Some are bigger than others.
Today's one of those bigger ones.
New beginnings, Stevie Boy.
A day of first on tap today.
My first annual appropriately early mock draft and the groundbreaking announcement of our first live road show.
Just nine days until the first Saturday of college football and 252 days until the first round of the NFL draft.
Mench, you good?
I'm good.
Let's roll.
I'm excited, man.
Me too.
All right, good.
You look serious,
excitement.
You have that, like,
serious tone excited going on.
I'm just, like,
giddy.
Just kidding.
About what, though?
Are you excited about this,
this appropriate early mock draft?
Are you excited about the road trip?
Road trip.
You know me.
Road trip.
I mean, if you're asking me
what I'm more excited about.
Right.
I'm excited about both.
Let's just announce it, right?
I'm not big on waiting.
You know, I don't have a lot of patience.
You couldn't even wait till today.
You couldn't even wait till today.
I kind of spoiled it, but that's fine.
It's on brand.
The support has been overwhelmed.
The growth of this show has been inspiring.
It's time to get out on the road.
We got to meet some of our friends of the show, right?
Here's the announcement.
We're going to have our first ever live McShay show on the road,
and we want you to join us.
In fact, we need you to join us or also it'll be embarrassing.
Here's the here are the details.
You ready?
I think it's what Steve's nervous about today.
We'll be at Lincoln Hall in Chicago.
I can't wait.
Lincoln Hall in Chicago on Wednesday, September 10th.
First week of college football after week one into week two.
So much to talk about, okay?
Tickets go on sale tomorrow, August 15th, 10 a.m. Central.
time get in there early folks i got a feeling about this i'm fired up more information is going to be
available so stick with us check in at the ringer dot com slash events okay the ringer dot com
slash events very soon but that's the deal all you need to know is live show mention i
we're still ironing out who the the guest is going to be if we're going to have one it's 90 minutes
we'll go they say we'd do about 75 of show 15 of question and answer i got a feeling the
15 is going to turn into 50 knowing us.
Like I want to be there.
I want to be present.
I don't care how long we go.
How many questions are asked?
I want to answer them.
We'll talk about Chicago sports.
We'll talk about anything going on in the Midwest.
Anyone who's there questions about us.
Is it Ohio State?
Is it Penn State?
Is it Notre Dame?
Is it the Chicago Bears?
I'm fired up to talk about all of it.
But at Lincoln Hall, Wednesday, September 10th in Chicago,
tickets go on sale tomorrow, August 15th.
15th, 10 a.m. Central. And let's face it, Mench. Remember, check the ringer.com
slash events. And you'll get more information as it comes. And we'll keep updating you here
on the show, right? What are your thoughts? I'm excited, man. I mean, public speaking, it's going
to be, it's going to be interesting for me, but I'm excited about getting out and seeing
some of the faces, meeting the people, and really getting, I think we've tried to do this from the
beginning, but really getting a feel for what people are enjoying, maybe what they're not
enjoying. Let us know, man. I really want to, you know, really want to get to know.
our listeners a little bit more.
Yeah, we're trying to grow this thing.
And the only way to grow this thing is with you, our audience.
And if you're committed enough and you like what we're doing enough to be there,
then you're one of us and you're part of what we're growing here.
So I think it's going to be a blast.
And it couldn't come at a better time, kind of kicking off the football season,
NFL, college football.
Like, we're just getting into full swing that week, right?
September 10th, man.
Live in Chicago.
I love Chicago. Oh, I love Chicago. I was in Chicago about a month ago. I love going to Chicago. Yeah. I can't wait to go back.
First of all, like, I'm there for the show, but I don't care if it's LA for the draft. I don't care if it's Mobile. I'm, I'm a foodie. If it's Indianapolis, so like we need suggestions. Let's meet some people out there. Like, we're going to be there a couple nights. I haven't even told men to say that. We might be three nights. I don't know. Get your babysitter. Here we go.
All right. So that's that. That's the first of the first today. The second of the first is, and I've been, I've been talking about this dating back to like 2005. I've never had the opportunity to do this. Remember, our show started October 22nd last year. We got it right in the middle of the season. It wasn't an ideal start, but it's the soon as we could start after we signed the contract. The ink wasn't even dry. We're like, we got to go. But this.
This is our first off season, and this is the first time that we've gone through a scouting process with our audience.
And I've always said, like, contractually, I was obligated at ESPN because I wouldn't do grades after the draft, eight minutes after the draft.
Let's grade 32 NFL teams.
I thought it was preposterous.
So I agreed that I would do the way too early mock draft.
And so because it's become a thing and because like the outpouring for it is there every year.
And now I was the first to do it at ESPN, and they had the foresight.
And then everybody else started to copy it.
You know, now you see a hundred way too early mock drafts.
They even stole our name, right?
Because when they came to me, I was like, well, it's way too early.
It's just like, it's too early.
And they're like, what's the name it, the way too early mock draft?
It's kind of fun.
It was kind of a joke internally between us, and we wound up using that for the name.
But I always said, and no one was interested because, you know, college football starting,
NFL started.
We want to talk about training camps.
getting ready for the, you know, week zero and week one of college football.
No one was like no one wanted to take the time programming wise to do an appropriately early.
How about you give me a couple months?
How about you give mention I time in the lab, study these players, right?
And listen, we got a whole other season of tape.
We got a whole bunch of guys that were, we, Cam Ward a year ago at this time was considered like a third, fourth, fifth round prospect.
And it goes number one overall.
And it happens every year.
So the names will change.
I'm not saying like, I now know,
but I'm saying it's a much more educated mock draft
based off the time we've had to actually do the work.
Go to Manning Passing Academy.
Talk to people there.
Talking to GMs, scouts that are getting ready to go on the road
that have done a lot of tape.
Our tape most importantly.
Okay.
And interestingly enough, Mench,
and we're going to get to the mock draft in just a second.
Interestingly enough,
there are 14 new names on this.
mock draft, the appropriately early mock draft, we're calling it, the first annual appropriately
early mock draft, than there were on May 1st when we released a way too early mock draft.
So you're telling me that putting in the time with the tape doesn't make a difference.
I'm telling you, it's not the case.
That's why we're doing this process.
So I want everyone to know real quickly before we dive into this mock draft.
While we're fired up about the live show, we're also fired up about the newsletter, okay?
and it's continuing to grow and we're kind of weaving and adapting as we go.
I talked to a lot about it in the last show.
There's going to be a lot more like if we're coming into your inbox,
it's with big ticket items and it's with stuff that's pertinent.
If I'm in your inbox, I've made a commitment to you.
I'm not wasting.
I'm trying not to waste your time.
It's there for a reason.
And it's coming up like the Manning, Archie talking.
about Arch and saying that he's going to be back in 2027. I have insight that I wanted to share
to that story. So we posted that right away. It's going to be a lot of that too. So it's going to be like
stick and move, grill a warfare in the newsletter. Okay. Stuff that you like if you love this stuff,
and I know you do if you're watching or listening to us right now on YouTube, Spotify,
Apple, wherever you get your podcasts, you're going to want to read this stuff because it's,
it's in addition to it's more detailed. And you're going to have all.
the mock drafts, all the rankings, all the things you've come to love.
And by the way, we've got an extravaganza coming up leading up to college football.
We're going to go through the top teams.
We're going to break it down from every different angle.
And next week, it's going to be the quarterback tiers, okay?
Three shows a week in the next two weeks, right?
We're going to three shows next week, right?
Is it?
I don't even know.
I'm just going to sit here.
I'm just going to wait for you guys to jump on.
I'm going to be ready to go.
I mean, can you imagine if we try to squeeze all that into two shows?
we'd be here for three hours, Dan would be pulling his hair out.
So we're going to go three.
We're going to go three next week.
Okay.
So I'm committed to all of this and I'm committed to the newsletter and I'm committed to
keeping these shows at a reasonable pace for you.
And that's why I'm not going to go on and on and on about everything else.
Now for the mock draft and please continue to support us.
Mench does a better job than me.
But I'm just going to say like, subscribe, hit that five star.
It's like, you know, Fletch, five star.
Yeah.
Confest Fletch, the new fletheat.
thumbs up, thumbs down, all that.
Oh, I want to see the new Fletch.
I love the old Fletch.
Confess Fletch, interesting tidbit.
That's why I quoted it.
I mean, he quoted, but every time he gets out of an Uber,
he just jumps out no matter what was going on.
One time he jumped out in the tunnel coming out of Boston
and it was like five star, you know?
The reason I laugh about it is because actually a good portion of that was filmed
before I moved here in Cohasset, Massachusetts, where I live.
So full circle.
I mentioned 14 new names on this mock draft,
appropriately early.
Here we are on August 14th,
compared to what we had on May 1st.
New quarterback at number one.
Mendoza's Inn, Allers out.
Interesting.
All new names picks 25 through 32.
So let's roll it.
Here we go, right?
Cleveland.
Oh, and by the way.
because this is always this thing.
You're going to get killed.
My good friends at Fandul who keep the lights on here
and have been unbelievable to us every turn.
Every time I ask a question, every odd I'm looking for,
we worked in conjunction with the draft odds.
Like they're an awesome part.
And they came up with what their odds are
to essentially win the Super Bowl.
You know?
And we just flip-flop that and created the draft order.
So don't yell at me.
Don't yell at Fandool.
They're not doing anything wrong.
They'll probably,
they'll probably listen.
They probably won't have any problems with it.
You'll be fine.
So Cleveland Browns have the number one overall pick.
And like, listen, here's the deal.
Shador played great in week one of the preseason.
There's a lot of hype and talk about all of that.
You still got Flacco and Pickett and Dylan Gabriel,
none of which played in that in the first preseason game.
But if they're picking it one overall, clearly none of it's working a quarterback.
and probably there's a new head coach and probably a new general manager.
We're not rooting for any of this.
I just have to work off the information.
And so if they're picking it number one, I'm going with quarterback here.
And I'm going instead of Garrett Nussmeyer with Cade Klubnick.
Clubnik, I see some, I see upside in him with the mobility,
having seen him in person at the Manning Passing Academy,
the way he's built, seeing his like, his,
honestly some little things like who's sitting there at the end of practice in the 50 yard line picking
Peyton Manning's brain watching him relay to the high school kids the young kids in camp
there's just there's some some guys have it and Nuss Myers got it I'm not saying he doesn't
I'm saying like while Nussmeyer's more polished take some risks throw some interceptions but more like
refined and polished pro passing game grew up son of a an NFL quarterback NFL quarterback coach
now the offensive coordinator of Tyler Shucks in the New Orleans Saints.
So he's been around the game his whole life, and I love him,
and we'll get to him in just a few picks.
I absolutely love Garrett Nussmeyer.
I do start to wonder, like there is that tendonitis in his knee,
something I didn't know about.
Something I talked about when I watched the LSU tape,
I said it's rare to see a quarterback kind of wear down as the season progressing,
and you have to start to wonder, was that part of it?
I thought it was, well, the run game sucks, and everything's on his shoulders.
and I think that was part of it.
But so there's some more digging.
And like I said, another year of Tate, combine, All-Star Games, medical, psychological, character,
all those things will be just poured into in the next, I don't know, nine months or whatever it is.
But as it stands right now, I think Kate Klobnik is my leader in the clubhouse.
And I'm fired up to see what he's going to do at Clemson this year.
Yeah, I've got no beef.
I mean, I'm a Lenora Sellers from South Carolina guy,
but that's a big projection right now.
Let's see how he does in the second year.
We'll get into it.
I'm sure he's going to pop up here soon.
But I like Clubnik.
And it feels like he's on a role, right?
It feels like there's some momentum there,
that he's a guy that's, you know,
started to play well as a season progressed.
And I think he's a guy that's that he can carry that over
from one season to the next.
You look at the supporting cast.
I think he's prime for a great year.
I don't, I don't hate it.
And look at that touchdown,
the interception ratio last year.
36 touchdown, six interceptions.
Look, every quarterback gets away with bad decisions.
You know, I get all of that.
That is a number that sticks out to me,
a six to one touchdown and interception ratio.
You'll look at all the starts he'll have at that time,
at that point, how seasoned he'll be.
I have Clubnick.
I have the same grade of sellers.
I have sellers just ahead of Clubnick,
but the same grade.
I like the pick.
Brown fans are losing their minds,
losing their minds.
Yeah, and they're, I mean,
I think it's been,
this would be the organization's 11th quarterback drafted and fifth in the first round in the last 20 years.
Not to mention the move they made for Watson.
I mean, you look at those all the assets.
And I think just one one playoff appearance in that in that span too.
Makes sense.
All right.
Let's just rip through by fives, okay?
Because I this is not.
And I want people to understand.
I'm not sitting like training camps going on right now.
People are watching hard knocks and watching games.
Like this, this is much more tailored to.
And I'm getting texts from all.
I told you, Rosillo's text me yesterday night.
I'm getting text from analysts who are getting ready to go out in college football season.
Like, who are the guys in round one?
Who are the quarterbacks?
Who are the top defensive players?
Who are the wide receiver?
So like, I think it's, to me, this is more tailored, right?
To who are the college stars?
We all, we go into the season and everyone, just ask their agents.
Everyone's got a first round grader.
He's going to be a high draft.
pick. You watch some of these broadcasts and you're like, well, like, there's only 32 picks.
And I'm telling you right now, some of these guys are really great players and maybe their
second third round picks when it's all said and done. But I think it's important right before we
ramp up as we're ramping up to right before we start the season. Like, here are the guys that I truly
believe have a chance to be first round picks. If they're not, then we're talking about day two.
You know, like these are the dudes. Okay. So we're talking to.
about Kade Klobnik number one to the Browns. New Orleans Saints, according to Fandul and in the
reverse order, New Orleans Saints would be picking it too. I don't think that they pulled the trigger on
Tyler Shuck after one year as a rookie. I think there's going to be some ups and downs. We'll see if he
wins the starting job. I think Kellan Moore believes in him, though. Okay. And I spent a lot of time
with Tyler down in Dibodeau, Alabama for for the Louisiana, right? Louisiana, sorry for the,
yeah, you get me in a lot of. I would have got myself a lot of, man.
for the Manning Passing Academy and like the relationship you can tell it's growing and this is going to be a work in progress.
It's not going to be a year one splash.
I don't think, but I think there's going to be growth.
I went with T.J. Parker, the edge rusher from Clemson there.
And to me, like we talked a lot about Parker.
You can go back and watch our show with Clemson, the defensive prospects we did.
I think his power translates to the NFL.
And this dude, whether it was Virginia, Pittsburgh, Florida State, like I said, like burned into my brain, some of the individual pass rush moves where he's just plowing guys, standing him up, driving him back, knocking him on their ass, and getting to the quarterback.
And so I think you're going to see growth there.
I've got T.J. Parker at number two. Spencer Fanu from Utah, offensive tackle, going number three to the New York Giants.
Hold on. Let me just circle back really quickly because I want to give you an opportunity.
to answer what I think. Some people are going to ask. They're going to look at you and say,
oh, the Browns are going to give up on Shador after one year, but not Tyler Shuck, because Tyler
Shucks your guy. Can you explain why that was why you're looking at that a little bit different
of why the Browns might go quarterback and the Saints wouldn't? Shadour, Shadur was a fifth round
pick. Right. I agree. I'm playing devil's advocate. And it didn't look in the draft for,
and listen, like, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I,
had a late first, early second round grade on Shador.
So I think there's a misconception that, like, I didn't like Shadur because I gave the
honest answers to what was going on behind the scenes starting in January at the
combine.
I, I didn't interview with a couple of teams in the top 10 and, and turn them off by my
attitude and not caring what they thought of me.
Shadur did that.
I just reported what general managers and people in the league were talking about.
I still, I could have then been like, you know what, I'm all set.
I'll give him a third.
I'll put a fifth on them.
I didn't because I believe in the young man.
Like, I truly do.
I'm watching the game the other day and I'm thrilled.
I'm pulling for Shador.
I also love when guys get kicked in the face and turn around and be like,
all right, next round, let's go.
Now, I think that's what Shador is doing.
He's not getting a lot of round one reps in practice.
And he rolled in there with the confidence that you need to have.
I don't care of a fifth round pick.
I don't care as a second quarterback drafted by this organization.
I don't care how little everyone in the league believed in me.
You think Tom Brady did?
Tom Brady walked into Robert Crafts office and said,
I'm going to be the best pick your organization has ever made.
In the sixth round, $199 overall,
Shador was fifth round, 144 overall.
Okay?
So I'm polling for Shador.
I love shit like this.
I do.
But I don't know that everyone in that building is polling for Shador the way that you should be
and the way that you would be had you spent a or that 30 third pick or whatever it was in the second round on him.
Okay.
So that to me is a difference.
Good question.
Valid question.
I'm glad I was able to answer.
Quick, quick follow up.
If the Saints are picking first, would they take Klobnik?
Do you think that highly of Klobnik?
That if the order was flip-flop, if Klobnik's still on the board, would the, would the Browns take him?
I mean, they absolutely could.
I mean, with the, I'm sorry, with the Saints.
Yeah, with the Saints.
No, I hear you.
And I thought about that.
Yeah.
But they drafted Shuck early in round two.
Right.
And it's a, it's a new regime.
There's obviously a lot of personnel gaps.
I think that's the difference.
Okay.
I think and here's the other, and I thought about this.
I'm glad you brought this up.
And it shouldn't have taken me two questions to actually get you this answer.
I did think about this when I was writing this.
Kell and Morin going anywhere.
Good point.
That's going to be year two, expected to be some ups and downs this year.
Stafansky, if they're picking number one overall, like ownership,
ownership has owned, rightfully so, the Deshaun,
Watson error. But that bought him another year. I don't know that it buys them picking one overall
next year. So, so with a new regime once they want, they want their new guy. So if it was
Klupnik at one or if they're sitting at two, it's sellers or Nussmeyer or Klobnik, if he's there,
I think this would signal a change. And the new regime typically wants to come in and draft their
quarterback. So that, that hopefully explains the reasoning there. Yeah, to be clear, I agree with you.
I just felt that there might be some pushback, and I understand that.
I understand why people might have questions about that.
And I thought it was a good opportunity for you to explain yourself.
That's all I'm doing.
Oh, I appreciate it, man, when you have my blind spots.
You usually do.
All right.
So Giants at three Spencer Fanu from Utah.
I can get into, you know, they've got a couple of offensive tackles.
Three offensive linemen set to be free agents next year, okay?
Including Jermaine Illumina, Evan Neal and Greg Van Rott, okay?
Andrew Thomas is coming off the Liz Frank.
Like I think that offensive wise got a chance to be a lot better.
What are you shaking your head at?
I just love the,
I'm like,
I'm in awe of the fact of all the work you're doing here.
And it's good.
It's great.
This is very fun to me.
This is ridiculously fun.
It's mocked up.
All the work you're doing on these team needs.
I mean,
you really went in.
And it's,
it's August 14th.
And you're looking at team needs.
Man,
it's,
I'm in all.
I'm impressed.
Look at this tan.
I can only sit on the beach.
so long.
Marcus Bile, they drafted.
By the way,
Marcus Bile's having a good camp.
It's our guy from Purdue.
If he gets a little stronger,
I think there's something there.
All right, anyway.
But Fander's your guy.
So I'll give you a chance in a second.
But he,
my goodness, does he move?
Jets at four ahead with Garrett and Usmeyer.
Okay.
Like, he doesn't have the Drew Aller size
and necessarily the arm.
He doesn't have the dissoning.
Zeeing athleticism of, of sellers.
And obviously the medical now is going to be something that's brought up a lot.
But hopefully it's a non-factor, okay?
But what I see out of him is accuracy, timing, a belief in what he's doing,
knowing when to get the ball out, confidence, like beyond competitive, competitive level
that is just like rare.
I just, I believe in Garrett Nussmeier.
And then number five, Caleb Downs, who, I,
could argue is the best prospect in this class.
He's a safety and he's probably not going to burn like a four, three, two.
So it's going to be tough for him to be in the top two or three picks with all these
quarterbacks and with some edge rushers and with some.
This is a good edge rushing class.
I can tell you already right now in August.
This is a damn good quarterback class.
And I'm not just talking first round.
I'm talking deep.
This is a damn good edge rushing class with a chance to rise.
Like there are some guys like Patrick Payton at LSU.
we'll get to Harold Perkins as an off the ball linebacker.
They can rush the quarterbacks later in this mock.
I think we've got some good names early on for the edge rushers,
but I think there's going to be some more guys ascending.
And there's some really good offensive tackles, man.
And I know you've done the work on those guys.
So a safety may fall a little bit,
even if you wind up having the grade you have on them now,
which to me is equivalent as good or better than any other player in this class.
So those are the top five picks.
Downs would be going to Tennessee at pick number five.
Any other thoughts from you?
I think it's going to be tough for Downs going to the top five.
And I don't say that says anything about him.
I think safety is going that early is just tough.
I think T.J. Parker is another guy that we're going to look back and be like,
why did he fall because he's not, I don't know if he's going to have that elite testing.
We'll see.
But again, these are guys, both him, they're going to end up on teams and be damn good players.
They're just too good.
And I would put them where you're putting them based on what we've seen now.
So yeah, just to get into Spencer Fano real quick, can we do
that. Yep.
Violent, athletic. It's not all clean. It's not all clean. But what that gives you the opportunity
to see is when he gets caught in a bad spot, how does he recover? And I remember watching when
the Jets took Elijah Verit Tucker out of USC, the tackle guard. I remember Joe Douglas, our friend,
who was the GM at the time of the Jets, talking about what happens when Verit Tucker gets caught
out of position? How does he recover? And they were so impressed with his ability to recover.
man, I see Fano and when he's clean with his technique, it is beautiful.
But when he does things that he's not supposed to, he still wins.
And when you're looking at that kind of a talent, I think I would have no problem taking him in the top five.
Yeah.
All right.
So six through 10.
Let's go through it.
Here's your boy, Lenora Sellers, Raiders.
If they're picking at number six, the Gino Smith thing didn't go that well, right?
And that was kind of my thinking behind this.
You got Lenora Sellers there, the mobility.
And you still have Gino Smith, though.
And we've talked about Tom Brady is going to bring in a quarterback.
Right.
Perfect.
And give him time.
And I'm going to mention every time I mention seller's name between now and next April
or now and next January, if he decides to go back to South Carolina,
it's going to be with the caveat of, I truly believe in this young man.
And I think he's got a chance to be special.
But I also believe he'd be best served.
and we'll find out maybe that changes, but I don't think it will.
Based on what we've seen with the Jaden Daniels,
50-something starts in two different places,
Bo Nicks, FBS record 61 or 62 starts at Auburn and Oregon.
And the success they've had early in their careers
versus the guys who don't have as many starts.
Even Caleb Williams was in the like 34, 35 stars, whatever it was.
There's a difference.
there's nothing
that like the game experience is critical, right?
And so I think that
Yeah, Lauren Sellers is 20 years old.
Yes.
20 years old.
I mean, he was 19 last year.
But you look at last year with Vegas, right?
Five of their first six picks were on offense.
And I think they'll be trying to reverse that
because they do have to,
they do have to be able to deal with guys like Mahomes
and Herbert and Knicks in that division, okay?
but there's only so much you can do defensively if you don't have a quarterback that can at least keep up with those guys.
And so I think this would be their opportunity.
And if they're picking at six overall, it wouldn't be necessarily that they're going to bridge that gap in one year.
But they'd be on track to develop a guy like Sellers properly with Gino Smith with another year.
Okay.
Excuse me.
Carolina at seven.
I went with the other Clemson defensive linemen who quite frankly, I see a little bit more upside.
they're different positions, but I could, if Peter Woods, the defensive tackle, interior
defensive lineman ascends the way I think he's going to this year, I think he's got a chance
to be a top three pit, okay?
But I love both Parker and Woods.
I love both of those guys.
They drafted edges, Carolina did, Scorton and Princely in second and third round, respectively
last year.
So now like an interior guy would, like you add, they've added Brown the third and,
Wharton alongside Derek Brown, they were just kind of free agent patchwork guys to bring in another,
like Derek Brown with Peter Woods.
Like, I just, I think that would have a chance to be a special pairing in the interior.
Miami at eight, I went with Caden Proctor.
Okay.
The offensive, like that offensive line is still a mess.
I'm worried about Miami this year, but this isn't the show to start doing that.
But they've got Patrick Paul and Austin, Austin Jackson, Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania,
in his starters.
Like, I would be worried if I'm a Dolphins fan about that offensive line.
Proctor had that shoulder injury last year, some ups and downs, but my goodness,
67, 370.
He's just a big dude who moves pretty well for that size.
Then you get number nine Chicago Bears, Caldric Falk, edge rusher from Auburn.
Again, productive last year, I think he's another guy who's going to take that next step.
And I know this, NFL teams love 6-6-288.
Frame.
And he's doing it with talent.
Now if he gets another off-season of refinement, agility work, upper body power.
I'm excited to see what Falk does for Auburn this year.
Auburn's got a chance to be kind of sneaky good this year.
We'll get to that as we do our whole extravaganza, both on the McShea report.
Go Google it and subscribe, please.
And also on this show.
And then finally, number 10, Seattle Seahawks.
I'm with Caleb Banks.
The more I watch him, the more I like this dude, man.
And I know, you know, Geron Reed was re-signed, but he's not getting younger.
They need a young difference maker.
Put him, you know, you get like that immovable force with Byron Murphy, who they drafted.
Now get a guy who can penetrate and disrupt.
So that rounds out my top 10 here.
So is that three?
Yeah.
Or no, that's two defensive tackles in the top 10.
by the way. I love that. I think both those guys are worthy of that kind of talk right now.
And I feel like maybe here's the graphic. You know what? I'm just going to rip through these,
right? Jordan Tyson, big wide receiver, kind of get that Debo stuff, versatile, really good after
the catching strong. You got Mateo Oiangale from Oregon, who's Mention's guy, the edge rusher.
I watched a little bit of tape to catch up on him because I hadn't when we did the top defensive
players. And as always, Mention is right. This guy can flat out first.
rick in play. Okay. Then you got you got Lomu, the Caleb Lomu, the other offensive tackle from
Utah might be a little rich, but I think I think the Colts could be looking at along the
offensive line. And as you've talked about, I think I think Fonu is is probably, while not fully
polished and his upside's amazing, I think this guy's a damn good football player too. So the Cowboys at a
with a wide receiver and Tyson from Arizona State.
The Browns with that second pick,
take Uwiyangololet for the Oregon Edge.
The Colts taking an offensive tackle in Lomu.
Antonio Williams' wide receiver,
who's not the biggest guy, but he's fast.
He's explosive.
He's a playmaker.
I think he and Klubnick are in a monster year.
Then Fernando Mendoza steps in.
How about that?
And it's too rich.
I get it.
And I don't see him on tape right now.
now that cal tape i studied as the 15th best player in the draft but i see the potential to get there
and this is all about projection at this point i'm fired up to see the mobility combined with
his arm and what he can do in that offense and and i know right now signetti's sitting there
in bloomington and i've no people who are close to the program and i'm going to get texts and
phone calls and what are you doing you're like this is what not what we need right now
inflated head and all that stuff
Mendoza's not that kind of guy
Mendoza he's grounded
he knows what he's got to do to get to this 15th spot
and then Francis Mowago
who I think is
I mean just a massive monster guy who
I watched him and I see inconsistencies
top heavy at time but but my goodness
they you know the good Lord only makes a
handful of them every year and he's one of them
so that rounds out my top six
Munch, take it wherever you would like.
I like it, man.
I mean, you're going with a lot of the guys that I like it.
It's interesting that you ended up going.
I think they're very close.
Jordan Tyson, you took, you ranked ahead of Antonio Williams.
I don't know if that's team fit or that's how your board actually lines up.
It seems like it's probably how your board lines up.
There's very similar grades.
I'm glad you mentioned that.
Think about Dallas and how badly they wanted a big receiver, a physical receiver.
Yeah.
And how badly, you know, they were hoping to get.
Teteroa McMillan, right?
And so it was kind of that was the tiebreaker for me, if I'm being honest.
Okay.
I have Tyson ahead of Williams on my board, but again,
we talked about this in our summer scouting series.
Tyson has some ball skill issues.
I want to see him catch the ball a little cleaner this year,
but I think he's the better receiver for me because of the route running.
I have, I love both the tackles you took, by the way,
Kate Broctor, who was the top 10 guy, I think he took him eighth,
and then Lomu from Utah.
Utah has the two best offensive tackles in the country, in my opinion.
Lomu is the, is it, Lomu is a red shirt sophomore.
He went over, the reason that Fano starts at right tackle is because Lomu came in and said,
I'll take left tackle, you go over to right tackle big guy.
Because that's where Fano started and they moved him over to right tackle.
To me, Lomu is, I started watching him early on the season.
I was like, he's got something to him.
He's pretty good.
Maybe in a couple years, we'll see.
And then by the end of watching his tape, I was like, this kid can play now.
I mean, he could go now.
and he is for a taller guy,
does a pretty good job at this pad level,
with his footwork.
He is,
I actually think he's more fundamentally sound
than Bono is right now,
maybe not as athletically gifted,
but he's right up there, man.
He can move his feet.
I think the two best offense tackles
are in Utah now.
It'll be interesting to see if Blomu.
He'll be a two-year star at that point.
Maybe he goes back for another year.
So it'll be interesting to see how that all unfolds.
Yeah, and I think,
I think looking at this class, right,
I'm not as high on Drew Allen or some others.
Me neither.
I think that wide receiver group for Penn State is going to be better,
and by all accounts, like talking to people that are in the know,
they've been really impressed.
I don't think the wide receiver group for Penn State was as bad as the reputation was last year.
And you get the young man who's transferring to Ole Miss.
I bet you're going to have a better year.
I can't come up with his name right now.
I think it's an Aller problem.
and I'm excited to see the growth in his game
throwing to receivers on time running away from him down the field.
He's got a big ass arm.
He's not very mobile,
but somehow he competes and he picks up first downs
and he moves around and does all that stuff.
He's big.
He's got all the thing.
He just looks the part.
And they want a lot of games.
But can they win the big games?
And can he be more devastating in the past?
game can he be more like on time balls out lead receivers i told you it's a visualization thing with
him i'm not saying he can't i'm saying he needs to this year so that like if you said like one of the
five things that you're you're most interested or intrigued excited to see however you want to phrase it
one of them would be does aller take that next step in his progression as a passer visualizing
anticipating throwing the receivers post post corners right
those types of throws down the field leading them dropping it in he's phenomenal receiver
a comeback routes out kind of you know curls stationary guys it's when guys are running away from him
even like in breaking he's okay it's guys running away from him even in the flats he struggle
throwing the running backs so that to me is going to be fascinating but there's still four quarterbacks
right going in my top um top 15 yeah i don't hate the mendoza thing either though i think there's
going to be uh some fans in pittsburgh who think that will howard's the answer right now and so they're
kind of surprised that they're going to go out and get another another uh big 10 quarterback in mindoza
he's been dinged up in the preseason so we don't really i know i know we don't really
listen it's that time of the year if a guy has a good preseason game or you see a couple
clips on uh x or youtube or whatever you're starting to think that this guy's the next guy
All right, let's go through the next bunch of you guys, okay?
Arizona is sitting at number 17.
I gave him running back Jeremiah Love.
Best back in the class coming out of Notre Dame.
I would put him in the, I think when you're making your list of top five, top six guys in Heisman,
by the way, there's a quarterback battle in Notre Dame.
I talked to someone two days ago after our show.
Hold the brakes.
Everyone on the CJ Car thing, this Menchy cat's playing well.
Yeah.
It's a good problem to have.
Good problem to have.
But regardless, Jeremiah Love, like that offense is going to run through him.
Poetry in motion, man.
Big back, light on his feet.
I just, I love the way he plays.
And you look like Arizona.
Yeah, they could go wide receiver here.
You know, Dorch and Zay Jones are set to be free agents.
Offensive tackles another area they could look at with Jonah Williams being a free agent.
But you look at the running bike, James Connor, how long can he do this as a bruising back?
he's he's going to be 31 years old next year.
Trey Benson and Michael Carter combined for fewer than 100 carries last year.
So that could be a spot where the first back comes off the board,
wherever Arizona is picking him.
Then I went Jermad McCoy, cornerback.
Great news on McCoy.
First practice was yesterday or two days ago, Mench.
I can't believe that.
For those of you who don't know, I know.
He had an ACL tear in January.
working out January.
What the hell's going on with modern medicine?
But he's back in.
I guess eight months isn't that crazy, I guess.
I didn't think we'd see him until the middle of the year.
And I didn't know.
I'm not a doctor.
I mean, obviously, I'm not that smart.
Doctor.
Not even close.
But I was,
I never thought that I would hear about him practicing at this point.
But that's breaking news, man.
That was this week.
Okay.
And so the Vikings have a patchwork.
group cornerback like i could see them going mccoy if if he reach and i know we've talked about
this tape he had a couple games it wasn't all that pretty but like his his tape shows the the tools
the skills the speed the burst the explosiveness the fluidity that you look for and i think he's the
best cornerback coming into the year assuming he gets back to close to 100 percent then i get
denver at 19 anthony hill versatile linebacker really good pass rusher a year ago flies around again
These off the ball linebackers, I'm not saying, you know, mark them down,
etch him in stone that they're going in round one.
I don't know that there's any locks to go in round one,
but I think Hill's going to have a big year for that Texas defense.
Ruben Bain, betting on his potential, betting on the fact that that Florida game
where he had that soft tissue injury in his leg, that that slowed him down.
And the tape wasn't the same last year.
Still good, still flashes.
But 2023 is a freshman.
He was awesome.
Okay.
I think Bain's another
pass rusher. I talked about there's some edge
rushers that I think are going to send
this year and Baines one of them. I had
him going to Washington at 20.
Okay, David Bailey,
Texas Tech, another edge
rusher. I talked about
the other day, 16 guys,
the Mattador Club, the
I think it was the Matador Club.
Metador Club.
Bailey was the top. Mr. Dipp and Rip.
Mr. Diff and Rip. He's going to
be around the corner, man. And the other thing I like
about him, I think he's 11 career force fumbles. When he gets to the quarterback, he's hunting the
ball. He's looking to knock and lose. He's a violent hitter. I mean, I like guys to turn the ball over,
even at defensive end, guys that have a knack for separating the ball from the quarterback. He's one of
those dudes. Then I had a pair of cornerbacks going, okay? So that was the Bailey was the Chargers
at 21. So Washington had an edge rusher in Bain from Miami. Chargers had an edge rusher and
David Bailey from Texas Tech fired up to see what he does in those 16
portal transfers for Texas Tech this year.
Then I had a pair of cornerbacks going.
Green Bay at 22 with A.J. Harris from Penn State.
The Rams at 23 with DeMani Jackson from Alabama.
Okay.
Then we flip over to Isaiah World, the offensive tackle,
coming in from Nevada, four-year player,
68, 316 pounds.
Oregon just, Oregon, LSU and Texas Tech by all.
accounts murdered the transfer portal. And World was the was like the premier guy and they obviously
needed that with two offensive tackles drafted from last year. So I had Houston taking him at 24 with
their offensive line problems. Cam Robinson, Lakin Tomlinson, UFA is next year. Then Tampa Bay at 25 with
your boy, Sunny Stiles. I'll let you talk about him in a minute. The off the ball lineback from Ohio
State, you got better and better each week last year. The Bengals at 26 and the Detroit Lions at 27,
both taking Alabama defensive linemen.
26 to the Bengals,
Interior defensive lineman, Tim Keenan the third.
And then at 27, the Lions, an edge rusher,
which they did not attack this year.
Hopefully Hutchinson is going to be a full go for the entire season
and everything's back to normal.
But they got the A&M transfer,
65-283 over to net a good year last year.
I think he's going to ascend as well.
That kind of rounds out into the top 27.
Any thoughts on those players?
And we'll come back for 28 through 32.
You know I love Sunny Styles.
You know the other thing I love?
I think we both love this is that when the athletics,
Bruce Feldman comes out with the freaks list,
which he has recently.
I got to say, man, as fun as that list is,
and honestly, it's so much fun to read it about these kids
and what they can do.
It's amazing.
It's also insightful.
It's also helpful.
Highly.
Would you look at, like, just to give you something,
I'm just going to read directly from his thing here.
about Sonny Stiles.
Let me say, as you get ready to read it, it does one of two things for me.
And I know it does the same for a lot of evaluators.
It either puts a stamp on what you're seeing on tape or it makes you say, oh, I got to go
watch this guy or I got to go watch more of this guy.
I didn't realize he was blessed with these tools.
Or maybe there's a later round guy where you're wondering why he's on everyone's radar
because the production's not there, the starts aren't there.
And then you go back and you look at Bruce Feldman's list and you're like, oh, that's why he's
there.
He's like the rainmaker of college football prospects.
But go ahead.
Yeah.
So he just,
this is a little bit of phenomenal guy, by the way.
But go ahead.
The son of former Ohio state star Lorenzo Stiles Sr.
who won a Super Bowl with the St. Louis Rams as a remarkable athlete.
Six, four and a half,
243 pounds, Todd.
I didn't know he's that big.
He's a former safety.
I didn't, I didn't know he'd gotten up to 243.
I thought like 225, 230.
240,
40, broad jumped 11.
Vertical jump 40.
squatted 675 pounds.
His body fat is 10%.
He's a little faster,
Silas set of Jeremiah Smith,
who had 23.5 miles per this,
0.5 miles per hours this year.
My fastest one was only 23.2.
23.2 miles per hour on the football field
at 243 pounds.
A former safety, who you know could cover a little bit,
and that's what it is.
We've got to do in this league.
I think he is,
since the middle of last year
and you started to watch him
kind of get it. He's starting to get it.
He's starting to figure out how we're playing close to the line
and scrimmers starting to get it.
This player has been on a,
they've been ascending ever since.
And I can't wait to see how high he can get.
I love that you have him in the first round.
I think he's got first round talent all day.
He's obviously one of the players I'm most excited about in this class.
Awesome.
All right.
So that brings us down to 28.
by the way and i mentioned and damn damn damn picked this up for us damn comer our main man right um all new
names from picks 25 through 32 you talk about the difference in watching tape right so all of these guys
from styles to keen in the third to over 10 to the the remaining the remaining picks on this list
were not in the first one it was all from watching tape where i'm like got to add them or in the case of
one of these guys, I'll tell you in a second, talking to people and in reaffirming what I had
hoped was going on. So 28, Kansas City, I've got Denzel Boston from Washington, big physical
wide receiver. To me, like, that just makes sense, right? They've got speed serves Xavier
Worthy, Rishie Rice. They need a big, reliable dude. I can see them pulling the trigger on
Boston. Drew Shelton, offensive tackle. Let's make it clear. Not there yet. Sherr's struggles
last year. But I just, I think he's going to make a leak, like that combination of length, agility,
flexibility are hard to find.
CJ Allen.
We're talking about the offensive tackle and edge and quarterback class being strong.
There's a lot, and I'm not saying any or all of these guys are going in round one,
but it's a damn good group of off-the-ball linebacker.
CJ Allen, I don't know if he's on the freak list, but apparently he's going to be the next
alpha dog, the next great Georgia linebackers, what everyone's saying.
You saw some of it on tape, 76 tackles, four pass breakups last year.
I just look at the Ravens.
Trenton Simpson didn't play to the level.
Roquant Smith, 29 next year.
So I plugged in Allen there.
I just wanted to get him somewhere late in the first round.
Max Claire, this is my, you got it, Mench, pick.
Love them.
You love them.
You love them.
So I went with Max Claire there, 31, going to the Philadelphia Eagles.
We talked about Goddard, right?
God, I thought they'd draft a tight end this year early.
they didn't go that route. Dallas Goddard. There's been some contract issues with him.
Howie Roseman will be interesting to see how that all plays out. But I can see them going with Max
Clair 6-4-250, who comes in. He had a team high, 51 for 684 and four touchdowns last year, Purdue.
Now he comes into Ohio State. I think he's going to be the security blanket for first year starting
quarterback, Julian saying, if saying keeps wins, however you want to phrase it, that job. Finally, the Buffalo
Bill's there was a last minute change
that's how serious I'm taking this mensch
I wanted to get Nicholas Singleton
the running back in from Penn State
it was an O'DU Mench the final
two picks Claire and Singleton your two guys
but then all of a sudden
they signed a four year extension
with Cook and
and I had to make a change right
right it makes sense so yeah
so Singleton while I think he's
going to have a huge year six foot
226 cut
he had over almost 1,100 rushing hours
1099, also 41 catches in the passing game last year.
I think he's going to be in that, we'll call it 25 to 45 range, right, in the draft.
I think he's got a chance to get there.
He should run well.
He should run well.
Even in the, yes, and should run well, even in that rotating role.
But they signed Cook for your extension, $48 million.
And I was like, just like, I'm not going to put out a mock draft that has a running back round one after that.
So I went with Harold Perkins, and this was also late information to me.
I can't wait to hear what you have to say.
Do you remember Harold Perkins as a freshman in 2023 at LSU?
Yes.
I legitimately tweeted when it was Twitter at the time.
I tweeted out, I think I was, that like I've seen this is a top 10 player.
He continues to develop like this is like top 10 stuff.
Remember that Arkansas game?
Mm-hmm.
Four sacks, like seven or eight tackles for laws, like blew up the end.
He won that game.
Unblockable.
It's rare for a defensive player, a freshman defensive player to, like, clearly be the best
player in the field.
So then you come back to last year, in the SEC.
Last year, new coordinator, off the ball linebacker more, asked to do more, was swimming in
it early in the season.
Then he suffers the injury against UCLA.
I want to say late in that game and was out the rest of this season,
ACL terror.
I believe it was UCLA, like last week in September or something.
I remember it being kind of early and being like, but I also remember watching
him being like, oh, he's not the same guy.
Like misdirection, play action, or like he's not sifting through traffic.
Like the nuances, the little things he's not doing, he's over his head right now, right?
Over his skis, I should say.
Well, apparently he's been a monster in fall camp.
And apparently...
I've heard the same things.
Okay.
All right.
Second year in the system gets his responsibilities.
Still can provide that edge rushing stuff.
So like, I'm fired up.
He's coming off the ACL and has had a lot of time, just about a full year.
And if he plays this year the way he could be one of those guys, you know?
Yeah.
So this is something that.
that I read that it's really interesting.
I think that when you talk about Perkins Jr.,
you have to talk about his frame, first of all.
I believe he's listed at 6-1-22 pounds.
If he was 6-3 and 255 pounds,
we'd be talking about him as a top-10 pick as an edgebroucher.
He's that explosive.
I really believe that.
But at that frame, he's going to have to play off the ball.
We also talk about sometimes how injuries actually help players
in their development long-term.
And one of the things that I've read that was really interesting
was the defense quarter, Blake Baker,
after Perkins got hurt last year,
sat down and said,
hey, Harold, where do you think you fit best in my scheme?
Where do you think you should play?
Wherever you want me to play, coach.
Okay, that's what every guy.
That's what every coordinator wants to hear.
Every coach wants to hear.
This guy wants to do whatever's best of the team.
And credit to Blake Baker, he said, no, no.
Where do you want to play?
And he said, I want to play Star.
Star is a hybrid safety position.
And he has moved to Star
and apparently fits like a glove.
That's the reporting.
Because he's in space.
He doesn't have,
he's not behind all the traffic.
He comes screaming off the edge.
I'm screaming off the edge.
Matches up with linebackers.
It's one of those things you're like,
of course,
of course that would be the whatever.
And now that's,
that's where the end of playing.
We'll see what happens.
You are talking about a kind of a tweener player
who's coming off an injury,
but you're also talking about a dude,
he's got a lot of good tape,
he's got a lot of explosiveness.
and now might be where he was always destined to be.
I love getting him in the mix.
I love that you got him in the midst.
Nice, nice.
And I love the fact that we're going to Chicago.
Yeah.
I love the fact we're going to Chicago.
And we're doing it on September 10th, okay?
And tickets are on sale tomorrow, Mench, August 15th.
Get there at 10 a.m. Central.
All right.
That's 11 a.m. Eastern.
That's 8 a.m. Pacific.
I need you there.
Mench need you.
Don't you embarrass me all you want.
Don't you dare embarrass Steve and not show up.
We're going to have fun.
I can't wait for everyone to be there.
The newsletter's out, by the way.
It's free.
What are we doing?
It's free.
Go get the mock draft.
We get quarterback tears coming up.
We're going to have breaking news.
We're going to have all sorts of information.
I keep calling an extravaganza,
but that's just what it's going to be leading up to college football,
NFL and everything else we're doing.
But right now, if you just go sign up,
Throw your email address in there.
Get part of this.
You get a free mock draft.
You can read everything I wrote
and all of these 32 players.
I'll tell you what, man.
It's a fun show.
Yeah, the mocks are always great.
I don't care what's not here.
Mocks are always great.
We could do them in July, June, August, whatever.
They're great.
Five stars.
See you guys soon.
