Get used to it.
I know you don't like living in an optimistic world like me,
but you better get used to it.
We just jump from a bad.
A couple hundred to like 600 people in the chat,
and we're rocking and rolling already,
and we just got kicked off.
Just got things kicked off.
I also want to tell you what's going on,
this beautiful country that loves football.
high school football playoffs have started
and NFL flag football playoffs
and big tournaments are going on
and so we're going to have a fun day
as we start every single Saturday night
live reaction show before we get to all the great games
with the best things that we saw today
and Tucker's behind the screen
because he doesn't like coming on with us yet
he claims he's got too much going on
but we're going to get him in here
but for tonight he's like the lone ranger back there
it's the three of us and all and everyone who's viewing this thing so we're excited to bring the show to you and
Tucker let's kick it off with some of the fun things with high school football and youth football
and and uh in the NFL flag football all the playoffs starting and the tournament's happening ah there it is
tate mcshay and the gang mcshay 13 right there junior so cool yeah he had the big tournament in ton today
Unfortunately, those two pictures were probably the highlight of the day.
If I'm going to be a tough day.
Fortunately, I view tough days is the best days, man.
Yeah, learning opportunity.
As a dad, we didn't talk a word about football on the ride home, one hour ride home, him and I.
We talked about life and growing up and being a man and being a leader and carrying your head, interceptions, head high, all of it.
So that was cool.
That was cool.
That's awesome.
Yeah.
Good for you.
You find the wins.
Even if they're not sitting for you in a platter.
You find the wins.
And today was a good day, a special day.
You take the time.
Yep.
And you take the time.
I know we get some young men who have said that they're about to have their first children.
We did newborns and everything else.
So, like, you know, don't take all my lessons because they're not all great.
I promise you.
Pretty good.
They're pretty good.
But some are okay.
All right.
Next up, what do we got, Tuck?
Oh, this is great.
This is great.
This is Tucker's good friend at Palm Springs High School coach Dustin Jackson.
Show it again.
Look at this animal.
This is what high school football is all about.
Not necessarily the palm trees.
But standing on top of the building, ready to jump off of it to go make a tackle in the A gap.
What I want to know is why.
set up. Is it because there was no space
underneath or is it because he thinks he gets a better
angle? I want to know
high school football and high school football
is a little quirky depending on the stadium
you're in. He wants the angle. He wants the,
I love that. And then Tucker
beat it to me when he said angle. He texted
in the chat angle.
And it's because high school football coaches
are the craziest human beings on the face
of the planet and that's why we love it.
You see him? He's ready to go. Tell me that guy's
not a former linebacker.
he's nuts that's what Tucker said you can tell and nuts is a beautiful thing and we celebrate nuts on
this show constantly that came out weird the amount of time those guys have to put it in and the
commitment they have to make to make I mean no money no money I don't know what they're not but it's no
money they have to like the the love for the game in their community is you know we like to talk
about the scouting community on here because of how unrecognized they are and they don't get enough
credit. High school coaches, man,
are just the freaking best. Just the
best. To care about people that
much. That guy cares about
how well those kids are going to do on third
down that night. So much
that he wants to get up on the top of that so we can
see formations better.
So we can see who's, you know, what kind of
who's blowing their assignments, all that stuff. That's
insane. It's awesome.
All right, Tucker, what do we get next?
Oh, this is great. Fix six.
Wheeling Park Patriots.
Listen, not ever, no one can watch ESPN apparently now,
so you may not have seen it on game day.
But we had to show this.
Yep, he's still going.
Oh, the big fella.
Akeem Davis from Wheeling Park football.
That's an awesome moment.
A couple things.
I love it in year two.
We're starting to celebrate the big men.
We're starting to give the big men.
I feel like almost weekly we have a big man making a play on here.
And the second thing is it feels like some of the,
some of these guys are making some business decisions.
And you know what?
I don't blame him.
Look at the size of that human being
and the way he's moving.
Unbelievable.
Yeah, I would want nothing to do with that.
When he freaks out, there's a little bit juice there, man.
There's a little bit of a burst.
There was.
I could see, like, you know, like in Alabama,
the way that Clemson has historically.
All right, sorry.
I'm still working.
I'm going back to my favorite.
The YouTube TV.
Oh, when I can get off of that.
crud that I've been dealing with
in the last two weeks. Oh, this is my favorite.
I have no idea we're going to put this on here.
I know. And because it makes you uncomfortable.
And I love it. I worked with Craig James for a long time at CBS.
I got my career started with Craig James and Jerry Glanville and Jim Nance.
Just like writing down notes.
I'm not, I'm not pro-bullying and all the things.
All I'm saying is how smart and like, I just,
I saw this and I saw this.
started dying laughing. Anyone who doesn't know,
Adam James, there were rumors
that he was locked in a shed,
whether it was hazing or a coach who was angry
with him when he was at Texas Tech.
And truly, this is why it's
brilliant. The last time
you go back to like the 2008
era, I was at that
game, Michael Crabtree is on the side. If you watch
closely, I'm racing the other way while everyone's
running down to where Michael Crabtree scored
because I wanted to get the hell out of there. It was one of the scariest
place I ever before my life. I heard it's wild.
Texas, I told you, I show up
Lubbock late the night before on a Friday night before doing college game day radio
with Rosillo and Stanford Steve was our producer. You talk about the roots. That tree,
it's like, yeah, everyone's the coaching tree. How about the Rosillo, McShea, Van Pelt, Stanford
Steve tree? No one talks about that tree. No, but I show up and there's there's bloody sheets
and no one's working at the front desk.
Come in the next day, and we do a show for like eight hours on the radio,
and then the sun goes down, and it gets cold.
And you look up in the stands and tortillas are being thrown,
and everyone's got this, like, face paint on.
But it's not like Florida State where it's, like, beautiful people and sexy dressing.
Like, I've been to Florida stand that's a different kind of, whoa.
This was like, and then all of a sudden,
they beat knock off Vince Young and the number one team in the country.
place goes crazy and I'm like literally like I kind of want to just get back to the truck to see
if I can go back to the hotel and maybe they got clean sheets um but my point in all this is
Craig James son it read around that era was the last time nationally anyone was talking about
Texas tech that's like yeah yeah yeah and to hear that they're
and to see them back and to see the game day scene today and to see the excitement and the
red smoke and the guns firing and all the stuff and west texas and west texas is football and then
you see this sign up like yeah man we're back we still get we still get james's kid in our shed
i was like bravo bravo it was smart man it was a good callback oh it was a great um all right
we got anything else oh speaking of west west texas and
football. Amarillo wins three-way coin flip to land spot in Texas high school playoffs.
There was a late-night flip held. Get this. At the Tutank Totum gas station in Plainview, Texas.
Tie caused after Amarillo was forced to vacate six wins due to an ineligible player. Peak West,
Texas. Why do I romanticize this so much, man? I know it's like the Friday Night Lights and read the book,
and watch the show and the movie.
But there's just something so beautiful
about a bunch of grown men
sitting in a gas station late at night,
flipping a coin
due to vacated wins for an eligible player.
Like, I love it.
This might be your worst take of all time.
Let me give you the good side of this, okay?
Toot, what was it?
What was the name of the place?
Toot Tud and Tottenham or something?
Chut and Tottenham, man.
Tootto.
Love that.
that.
We're going to meet outside the, you know, right where the Valero is and the, you know,
underneath the, the tut and totem sign.
This is why this is your worst take ever.
Why?
Gas station name 100% A plus.
The way the coaches handle this, A plus.
Okay.
We're going to, kids were waiting for a game of odd man out to find out whether or not
their high school careers were going to continue.
Like, that's what was going on there.
Two teams went, decide.
That coin, that little coin toss thing, decided two teams were going home,
even though they had played well enough to get into the playoff.
No, I understand that.
So why do we do it that way?
There's got to be a better way to have a tiebreaker.
And I don't care if we do punt past kick and you each pick a player,
but do something other than odd man out in the Toot and Totem or whatever the place is.
But it's West Texas.
It has to be at the Toot and Totem.
It has to be.
Putt past kick at Tootum.
No, you can do that like Pennsylvania, in Ohio.
Not in West Texas.
You can't send kids home on a coin toss.
All right.
And then my final one, Tucker, roll it.
This is our guy.
ATB is my new nickname.
Always trade back.
He's been there since the jump and he starts.
He actually was pissed.
Watch.
I think I started the whole thing.
Ringer McShay 13 at you good bench.
I got the chat at one.
Hey, that's on you, ATB.
You normally kick things off at Nip.
It was there for the taking.
At 1 o'clock, he showed up an hour late.
There were already four people in there,
and his head were fired up for some big football today.
And look at him.
He's kind of gross, 65.3,000 views.
Oh, because I'm going to retweeted it.
I love it.
What a great way to start.
Not only there are like four people in there,
but I mean it's just the chat, just the chat is rolling through, man.
I mean, they are not, it's not like they're in there making a few comments over the course of the game.
It's a back and forth thing, man.
The beauty is any good show with a loyal following, I've noticed this.
They don't need the show going on to be perfectly content.
It's not about us.
And I, like, I say that and I'm perfectly comfortable in my own skin knowing like this is, we help bring him there.
But they're their own show.
That's what I'm telling you, at the Senior Bowl and at the Combine,
we are going to find ways to celebrate what's going on here.
So all right.
It's very cool.
Moving on.
And we'll interact with these crazy folks all night long.
I see you have Evan Hawley's back in, the onions, ATBs rocking and rolling, Joseph
rolling, or rolling, right?
Cole Marie.
Cole Marie's, I feel like she hasn't been here a couple weeks.
She's back.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's good to see you, Cole.
Matt Matt Matt Mattias.
All right.
So we had, everyone's in place.
Everything's good.
Let's get back to the,
to the game that we kind of wrapped up.
But we had to,
I wanted to get the Nussmeyer thing out
before the show reset and started.
Because like,
this really should be about Alabama.
This is an Alabama program
that was at,
like, this really quick crossroads
after Nick Saban decided he's taken off.
NIL, the change in the culture,
It's too hard to do it, Nick Saban's way.
And I've won seven championships.
It's time to step down.
Keep an office, CEO style, help find the new guy.
And I love the hire.
But then you saw all the departures and you saw the frustration
and you saw the first season and the Jalen Milrow
and it didn't feel like DeBore and it didn't feel like Alabama.
right and i was worried you come into year two all right we're kind of right in the ship and
recruiting's going well got some transfer portal guys but then they come out and lose the
florida state and by the way i picked him to win the national championship but i feel like about
that huh yeah right horrible right of the gate i told you i was i was dealing with like a summer cold
and i was like it was medicine what was i thinking and then all of a sudden
they start building
and this Ty Simpson guy is real
and I still don't think
they have the run game that they need to have
but outside of that like the defense
keeps getting better
agree
they've got weapons
and this defense is young
and Deontay Lawson tonight
good to see Deontay Lawson
Deontay Lawson last I checked
I'll pull up the numbers here
he was like he had like
10 10 he had 9 he had 14
nine total, or nine total tackles.
Sorry, nine total tackles.
Justin Jefferson, six total tackles.
And then you see some of these young guys,
like I talked about before, Yonsei Pierre.
You see the cornerback, Dijon Lee, Jr.
Three tackles.
He had that past breakup against the six-foot-seven trade as green.
There's confidence building.
And it was sloth.
Ray Hubbard, man, they didn't recover,
but Bray Hubbard ripped another.
ball out, man. That guy is,
he's one of my favorite players to watch. He's like Jacob
Rodriguez from Texas Tech, we'll talk about later.
But those guys, you just feel like
make plays. Those, you know, they might not be
the most talented guy on the field,
but they're the heart and soul of their defenses
and they go out and just make
plays. Bray Hubbard's awesome.
You know, one thing
we didn't mention, I just looked at the total
yards, and it brought me to
Fandul this week asked me to
leave it to Fandu, hey, Fandu,
I get it. The lights are on because of you and we were allowed
to have this show because of you.
And I love our relationship and our partnership together.
And I love at FD, FD Sportsbook, sorry, at FD Sportsbook.
I love it.
I use it all season long.
I really love it during the draft.
I think you get intel on there that is shockingly helpful.
And NFL GMs are using it.
So I love FD Sportsbook and I love Fandul.
What's your beef?
My beef is I've hit two of the last four four-leg parts.
or five four-leg parleyes.
I just hit another one last week.
I'm on an absolute tear.
And I get a little message from Tucker on, like, Tuesday,
mixed in with a bunch of stuff I can tell
who's trying to sneak it in.
Hey, for one of your four-legs this week,
we're trying to let everyone know
that we're doing the total yardage.
So I wanted 11.5.
For the alt-line for my four-leg parlay.
I'm going to pull the sucker up right now.
I'm going to pull it up right now.
And I know this is terrible,
terrible show.
Log back in. Here we go.
So you wanted, what did you get? Did you get 11.5 or did you get something else?
I had Auburn plus 11.5. Easy cover.
I'd Wick Forest plus an 11.5.
Called that one.
Notre Dame minus 19.5. I brought down the alt line. I didn't even need any of these extra
spreads. And then the fourth one was going to be LSU plus 11 and a half.
And then Tucker told me I got to do total yards. I was like, you know what? I'm hearing some
this week about LSU.
I'm feeling,
maybe this is Nussmeyer's going to,
Nussmeyer Simpson,
this is his shot to take down
one of the giants from this year.
What was it totally?
So I was 325 I had it at.
And they got,
233.
233.
I want a couple thousand dollars,
Fanduel.
Um,
but my point in all of this,
sorry.
Oh,
and congratulations,
you hit on your Fanduel pick of the weekend.
as did I.
Yeah.
We're absolutely rolling.
People just don't notice.
I'm learning.
We're jumping around a little bit here,
but I'm learning,
there's some Ducks fans that were really,
at least one,
Joe Dollar on X was pretty upset with me
about my Oregon take this week
and wanted to let me know
how well Oregon ran the ball.
I was like, man,
I've been high on Oregon all year.
I just said they were an upset alert this week.
I just said this is a tough match.
And by the way,
and by the way,
quarterback scramble for a touchdown,
And now all of a sudden there's seasons on, like on.
Yeah.
But Joe Dollar wasn't having it, man.
I'm a bad guy.
But you covered that spread, and I had Wake Forest.
I had Wake Forest.
Wake Forest lost by 70 last week to Florida State.
And it was only six and a half point spread.
And I get the outright on that.
So anyway, my point in all of this was to bring it all back full circle.
These are good of gambling.
I got it.
My real point was, I looked at the total yardage because I was trying to say, Alabama actually controlled this football game.
Then I noticed LSU won't finish with 232, and that blew up my four-legged parlet.
But Alabama had 344 to 232.
Alabama only turned the ball over one time compared to two for LSU.
Alabama had four more first downs.
Alabama only had two penalties.
that's a stat line when you get like 110 more yards one one less turnover four more first downs eight fewer penalties
it's normally a more comfortable win yeah to kick a field goal to get to 11 late you know
or worry about a busted coverage making this game interesting all of a sudden you know what I mean
like it was just like what do we it should have been much a much bigger spread and it never felt like they were
it didn't feel like they were in danger,
but still it was in an A-point game late.
But yeah, it didn't feel like they were in danger, but they were.
Right.
But this is a rivalry game.
This is an LSU program that had an interim head coach,
which, by the way, the players and the staff love.
And all the noise coming out about Brian, yes, Brian Kelly
and how all the players and staff maybe, you know.
Yeah.
So it's just a good win, man.
anyway, you slice it.
It's just a good win.
It wasn't perfect.
It was pretty.
Ty Simpson did some really beautiful
Ty Simpson things.
There were a couple plays he left on the field.
But at the end of the day,
you know, like I've learned more about him as an evaluator tonight
and kind of grinding through some tough things,
which is always good.
21 of 35, 277 touchdown, no interceptions.
It's like, yep, double rate, you know,
double in the gap, not a triple, not a home run,
but like we're good, good to go here.
Another take away.
Go ahead.
I finally wrote his report and went back and watched every past attempt he's had this year,
every drop.
Give it to me.
I am in love with his mechanics, man.
His footwork, his base, even the way, you notice how he like ducks his shoulder
when they get pressure off the edge and kind of reduces the surface area, protects the ball.
It's all pro stuff, man.
His base, the footwork within the pocket.
his sense for it the way he negotiates the pocket.
And then when he gets outside of the pocket,
if he has time, he resets his feet.
And if he doesn't and he has to make an off platform throw,
his upper body is always square to the target, man.
He is always square to where he's throwing the ball.
Mechanically, he's one of the best quarterbacks
I've evaluated in a long time, if not ever.
I told you.
Mechanically and like the inside the pocket stuff,
I honestly have to go back to Joe Burrow,
where I say,
it's crazy.
comfortable. And Joe Burrow was in his fifth year, but second year is a starter at LSU when I was like,
oh, there's something about this guy inside the pocket footwork, managing it, toughness, right?
Yep. Not a runner, not like a dynamic threat, but like you better, you better account.
He's more, I think he's got more juice as a runner than Burrow does or did even.
I would agree.
So that's all that.
The other thing is, like, even tonight,
and not the best performance.
It was a tuned-up LSU defense.
Nine different receivers, spreading the ball around.
You can look at it and say,
what's going on with Ryan Williams?
I thought he was Jeremiah Smith,
three catches for 33 yards.
And, yeah, I'm mildly concerned.
It's been up and down.
We've talked about the drops,
and I went through every single drop for the last two season.
It's not, but this isn't necessarily as much about Ryan Williams as it is.
Ty Simpson's going to absolutely,
Ty Simpson is an elite level offensive coordinator playing quarterback.
And so it's the play design versus the counter,
which is the defensive scheme.
And he's just, he's picking you apart.
he's not targeting one receiver he's not targeting the other he's got two NFL receivers at least
he's just spreading the ball around and i want to tell you this too jeremy jermy bernard he had three
catches so what mickshay he was one of a bunch of guys that had three or four catches who cares right
guys that guy reeks of the nfl man i'm telling you were you loved him coming to the year
And then I felt that you were like, he's pretty good.
I think he's going to be here.
I'm like, man, you're not like, keep going with it.
Like, you were right all along.
I was.
Don't come off it now.
Go, like, if anything, lean in more.
He is an NFL guy.
I wanted, I wanted to see.
And it's been three or four weeks now where I'm like, I'm all in, all the chips.
Yeah, it has been.
You're right.
But you were really hot early.
Yes.
I was really hot in the summer.
No, I never came off of them.
But I never, but I never, but I.
I was cautious because I don't like to get overly excited because I liked him in the preseason.
I wanted to see more.
Now I'm like, this guy oozes an NFL wide receiver, oozes it.
Without a question.
He's just always in the right place, contested catches, contact balance after.
But I'm telling you, man, just as I talked about, like, if Texas A&M is going to get got,
and we'll get to them later, it's going to be Marcel Reed has one of those nights where things are crazy.
And when you look at like, I don't know with Indiana outside, they just, they run up again.
Like we saw today what could happen against a team, pass rush, defensive talent, that kind of stuff could be bottled up a little bit.
And we'll get to Indiana later.
We know with Georgia, the defense is not up to Kirby.
So all of these teams, and Ohio State is simply, are they as good as we think they are?
We think they are.
almost positive.
We're almost positive.
We feel really good about it.
But can we see them play a couple teams?
Because why is it Alabama's having to stack like Georgia and LSUs and this and, you know,
and all these other programs are, like, Vandy and Ohio State is not, you know.
But with all of them, there's something where you're like, all right, here we are entering mid-November.
But there's still this question mark out there.
With Bama, it's the run game.
100%.
Again, tonight, 26 combined carries.
And a lot of times when you have a stat line like this,
26 combined carries for 56 total yards.
A lot of times you're like, well, did Ty Simpson take two really bad sacks?
Nah.
Right.
Nope.
No.
He didn't.
In fact, he had four carries for eight.
yards.
They average 2.2 yards per carry.
Daniel Hill, 7 for 21.
Jam Miller, 8 for 13.
And he had a 7-yard run.
That means that the other 6,
the other 7 runs were for 6 yards.
I mean, it's, it was pretty bad.
It's a thing, man.
It is a thing.
If it's their run game,
if you get the, the, if you're a defense coordinator
and you're looking at how you're going to get to get this done
against Alabama.
It's shutting down that run,
and then it's attacking the right side of that offensive line
and pass protection with pressure.
And that's really what you're looking to do,
and you're hoping that Ty Simpson isn't super human like he has been,
and the receivers make a couple catches.
You have to have all those things kind of come together.
And that's really what it's going to be.
Now, it's easier said than done, but that's the recipe.
That's the formula to do it, I think.
Oklahoma next week.
We get all weeks to preview it.
And then they've got Eastern Illinois and then at Auburn for the Iron Bowl.
And Auburn doesn't show when he quit now.
Coaching change, Durkins in.
But really, this is the one.
And I don't know that Oklahoma is healthy enough or even good enough.
If healthy enough.
But this Saturday is like, that's the one.
But they're still getting in with two losses.
So who is Alabama?
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Are we going to talk about that
the Vanderbilt-Auburn game?
If not, I just wanted to mention,
I don't know if you saw Cam Colman.
We're not.
So go ahead.
Cam Coleman, the receiver for Auburn,
who is a true sophomore.
He's in the same class
as the Ryan Williams and the Jeremiah Smith's.
He had, they were down 3830,
Auburn was.
He had a one-handed catch with his left hand,
reaching around a defender in the end zone to get to bring him within two,
and then a one-handed catch with his right hand for the two-point conversion.
He's inconsistent, man, but his talent is ridiculous.
And again, Diego Pavia had a, you know, he's not going to win the Heisman,
but he had another Heisman-type performance today.
He was outrageous.
And I love how you call him Diago until he wins the Heisman.
Diego.
Diego.
I can't.
I'm so bad.
You got to keep calling me out on that stuff, too.
I got to get better at it.
No problem.
No problem.
I'm not worried about it.
4538 was the final on that one.
Vanderbilt survives.
It's like every week with Vanderbilt is a heart.
They look like they're in real trouble, yeah.
Real trouble.
They looked like they were real trouble against Texas,
and it turned out that they were.
But this one, they got out of it.
All right.
So moving back on.
Yep.
I think that's all I wanted to get to.
I think that fully covers Alabama and LSU.
All right. Next up, there were a couple good games, but honestly, if I had to say,
Todd, what was the game of the day for you?
That Indiana, Penn State.
Has to be.
Oh, 2724 is the final.
I want to start with this.
Give Penn State a lot of credit.
Five in a row.
they've lost coming in, right?
Right.
It's not a good scene there.
But Ethan Gruckmeyer showed
me something today.
And while they weren't dominant,
I saw some of the flashes
and some of the catches from Singleton
and some of the tough between the tackled runs from Allen,
Ketron.
They combined for 145 yards of total offense today.
But in the end...
That was good to see.
But in the end, here's the deal.
It was an absolute roller coaster ride for Fernando Mendoza.
And I know everyone's screaming...
Heisman.
Yeah, Mendoza.
Yeah, Heismendoza.
And like, I'm not...
I don't hate it.
I don't hate it.
I don't hate it.
But, you know, let's play it out.
you read this stat line though you're like 19 for 30
21 18 1 and 1 one touchdown one interception
it doesn't tell the story
and I just like you said with Jeremy
Bernard I was apparently you think you were first to market
Dan Comer or editor who by the way editor and producer and like is
everything to this show is more important than you and me
everything he and Tucker are the two people who are more
and Connor there are the three people who are more important to this show
than we are.
No question.
This would be comically bad without that.
Comically bad.
And Dan's with family right now.
And we, our prayers and our thoughts go out to he and his family and dealing with
some stuff that he needs to deal with.
And we hope he's back soon, but we certainly don't rush him and hope he takes as long as he
needs to with his family.
But I was saying, everyone seems to think they were first to market.
Let's just say this show was first to market.
Even Pete Thammel was going on podcast.
being like, hey, the McShay show, they're like big time Mendoza.
They did a whole breakdown and like no one else has really talked about in July what
Fernando Mendoza, you know, that he could be a first rounder.
And then the season starts and all of a sudden it's like this overhype and overcorrection,
just like the Jeremy Bernard.
I'm like, let's see.
And listen, he's not, he's flawed.
He's not perfect.
But he's also six five.
If he's 220 pounds, he's mobile.
He's got this smooth stroke.
Yeah.
And he's found someone in Kirksonetti that has, I mean,
our biggest bitch about Mendoza from watching them on tape,
I remember going back to my notes,
too many turnover worthy plays.
Like I love all the traits, love some of the aggressiveness,
love the off-script stuff, but it just feels sloppy.
and there's got to be, he needs someone,
kind of like Mateer,
like thrilled that R. Buckels coming with him
from Washington State, but would like someone
to be working with him to become a little bit
more mechanically sound, so layups are layups.
And that's what he's gotten with Signetti
and this staff.
Right.
A system, and it started off early in the season.
Remember, very conservative.
A lot of RPO's.
Let's take the short change.
Let's get some momentum going.
But then I told you, like,
was it Iowa, right?
I think it was Iowa.
It was an ugly win.
I learned more than that ugly win from Iowa than I did that Illinois win
where it was like 63 to whatever.
Right.
He was like 21 of 22.
Yeah, it was stupid.
21 of 23, five touchdowns.
Right.
And so I felt like I learned more in Iowa.
Well, I'm here to tell you, today wasn't about that stat line.
And I'll tell you another stat line.
First nine drives of the game, he had 131 yards pass.
and an interception.
Last drive of the game, he had 87 yards and a touchdown.
I wrote in my notes, I'm learning more today about this cat than I did in a lot of other
blowout wins when the stat line was better.
Because you know what happened to Mendoza today?
While still working in the structure of the offense, there were moments when Mendoza had
to get off script, throw off platform.
change his arm angles, go out and do some of those things that we saw him do a lot of at Cal.
And so it's not that I didn't know it's still there, but watching Mahomes,
when he got a year behind Smith, Alex Smith, and a year with Andy and learning how to read defenses
and all that stuff, and then steps in, and you're like, oh, that's everything that was great
about Texas Tech, but with refinement. And today was like, oh, I'm starting to get some of that old
fun, exciting, creative, extending
Mendoza back,
but still within the refinement.
And the interception was bad.
And he had like six in complete passes in a row.
And it was like, all those positive things I was saying about
he's getting a little off script and he's having to create
and he's having to do some things and utilize those tools that he has.
The 6-5, the 220, the mobility, the smooth stroke, the big-time arm.
But has he now forgotten?
Like, not forgotten, but can he blend those two things beautifully?
And that last drive, the 83 yards, the touchdown,
it started if you don't remember, whether it was the first or second throw,
he had a wide open receiver running down the left, not the rail,
but the left hash left numbers.
Overshot it.
It was kind of more towards like the seam, like between the seam and the sideline.
And overshot it.
Didn't have pressure in his face, but it looked like he felt pressure.
Overshot it.
And I was like, uh-oh.
It has not been a good half.
Hope this doesn't end this way in a loss.
And then the big time throw.
And then a couple of a sudden that touchdown throw.
And it was my goodness, the best catch I've seen.
Omar Cooper, Jr.
I've been singing his praises all year long.
I know you love him too.
He's having the breakout this year.
And we like Elijah Surratt, who wasn't in the,
the lineup today and all those things.
But it takes that throw in that moment and that placement to give Cooper Jr.
a chance to make that play.
Well, getting smacked in the face, by the way.
Absolutely.
I mean, just getting crushed.
Annihilated.
And so I say again, like I did after the, the two ugliest wins they've had this year have
shown me the most about Mendoza.
Could not agree with you more.
He made club.
He made both of those games he won at the end.
Those were, I mean.
I'm sorry, go ahead.
No, I mean, you're looking at what we're always looking at what
quarterbacks are doing at critical points in the game,
or they've got to go out and win the game.
And he's shown he can do that twice.
He did it against Iowa, and he's now done it.
He did it today again.
So, like, he's shown that he can make plays at critical times
when the stage is at its brightest.
The lights are at his brightest.
And I need that from quarterbacks.
And do you know why, like, in a classic, I went through this this week and we did a whole segment on it and it got a lot of people who got brought a lot of attention, not negative and positive.
I went through a whole thing on here's the intel I'm getting.
Dante Moore's going back to school.
His mom and dad, his agent, coaches, they're all lockstep.
He's going back to school.
Lenora Sellers needs to go back to school.
Pretty sure he will might not be at South Carolina.
and yeah, there's a Miami lurking out there.
But I don't know if anything nefarious going on,
any contact that was made, I'm not reporting anything.
I'm just saying people are putting dots together
and it makes a lot of sense when you just sit back
and think about it as a rational human being.
And yeah, I see everyone from Miami's yelling at me and I get people texting me.
I won't say who.
Well, but they kind of want CJ Bailey.
Take CJ Bailey.
You fucking kidding me?
I don't feel.
You know how I feel.
Lenora Sellers legitimately is a number one overall draft pick talent.
Yes.
If you can get him to make the jump that Cam Ward made from Washington State to his final year,
and you can make Carson Beck while it hasn't all been beautiful,
Carson Beck, that's the best out of Carson Beck that we've seen.
Yeah.
I'm not talking about the press conferences after.
I'm talking about between the lines on the field.
What do you think they'll do with Lenora Sellers?
I'm not saying they're Will Stein.
I'm not saying they're Sarkesian.
I'm not saying any of it.
I'm just saying there's proof,
and now they have a track record.
Right.
And I also told you that,
that Mateer, desperately, from scouts,
desperately needs to go back to school.
Right.
Skittish in the pocket,
Arch is going back.
Arch is going back.
And so that leaves us, Steve,
with two quarterbacks
in this class that you're legitimately looking at
as first round picks.
because we just talked about Nussmeyer dropping off
and Klobnik had a massive drop-off
and all these guys.
Drew Allen was never
and all this stuff.
And so then there were two, potentially.
If all this information is right, then there were two.
And then there were about nine
and maybe the best class in the history
of the NFL draft at the quarterback position
and wide receiver in the same year.
And maybe why the Jets are like,
Yeah, take Quinnin.
Yeah.
Maybe they know.
Take Terrell Revis.
We're going to stockpile.
Yep.
We want 2027.
And an organization that's a disaster in the ownership spot still has hired some pretty good people.
Moji, is that right?
I don't know.
New general manager and Rick Spielman's working there as well.
And both those guys were, I think, this Indiana game.
And I said joking around to an executive the other day.
I wouldn't be mad if they took two quarterbacks,
126, 127.
But my point being, if there are just the two,
I'm starting to see with both of them,
and I'm talking about Ty Simpson and Mendoza.
And again, I didn't get any intel,
all these sheets of paper, no intel on Simpson.
And I actually do think he's going to go back to school.
Alabama's going to pay him really well. I think he's a coach's son. I think he believes in the
development. I think that Ryan Williams happens to be one of his best friends of the world. He's
got a couple other friends that are big-time players. So let's see how the season plays out.
But if it is Ty Simpson and it's Mendoza, I'm seeing third downs, two-minute drills,
clutch moments, right? Yeah. Most critical aspects, in my opinion.
the arm strength, the mobility, the height, all those things.
But like, what do you do with all those traits when it matters the most?
And so it's exciting to see with those two.
And it's not an exciting classic quarterbacks all of a sudden.
And if Simpson's back at Alabama this year, which I would say is better than 50-50.
If Fandul has a nod on that, I would bet on he's returning.
And so maybe it's just Mendoza.
But at least now I'm starting to see all this talent.
that I loved in this preseason
and you loved in the preseason,
but we had reservations about,
it's not, because what,
here is my,
while every other draft,
what do you call them,
the Twitter mafia,
draft mafia,
draft mafia is so quick to,
oh, he's number one overall,
and he probably will be.
I have my question about that.
I care more about the process.
I care more about the process.
And I,
I'm not going to stamp something until I see,
okay, is this just Cignetti?
And we've got really tight chains on him.
And I know the traits are there,
but like how big is the growth
going to have to be from year one to year two
or from final year in college to the NFL?
Because he's coming from the system that really,
like they had to bottle him up and make him very rigid.
And I'm starting to see parts of that Iowa game
and in this game.
And so the stat line isn't beautiful.
But my gosh, I saw more shit today.
And I'm excited.
I promise you,
what are tape trues on Monday morning?
I'm taking Mendoza is one of my five.
Go for you.
You get the next pick.
We'll do a draft.
People, listen, when I talk about him,
I think people think I'm a hater and I have reservations about him being first overall.
And I can say those things in the same breath of saying I'm really impressed
with some of the throws that he makes.
And I'm really impressed the way that he was against Penn State today in that last drive.
I'm really impressed the way he was against Iowa in that last drive,
especially because when you look at those games specifically,
both of those defenses really tried to heat him up.
I mean, they really got after him.
They were free runners, and he was getting hit,
and it's at a big point in the game,
and he's still making plays.
I have all the respect in the world for him.
He's got five interceptions in his last six games.
He does get streaky.
I still have concerns about him
when he has to come off his first read.
There are still some things that are there,
and then I'm watching tape on Arvel Reese,
the edge slash linebacker from Ohio State,
and we'll see what he decides to do after this year,
and we'll see what everyone else decides to do.
But there are other players that I think I might consider at the first overall pick ahead of him.
I'm not sure this is going to be a draft where necessarily a quarterback has to go first overall.
But that being said, I also think Mendoza put himself in the driver's seat for the Heisman.
And he's had an outstanding season.
And I think he's a great player.
You know, I just think you've got to temper some of the excitement and some of the positivity here when you're looking at him as a draft prospect.
As a college football player, let's go.
I mean, it's unbelievable what kind of season he's having in Indiana.
has done an absolute role.
Cole Marie, I'm not good.
I've taken enough shots of people in the last few weeks.
I've promised,
promise Marissa and everyone else in my life,
I'm going to go easy unless I'm absolutely forced in the corner.
But I appreciate your comments.
ATB, he made the comment of,
he's not that much better than Rourke.
ATB, I love you.
Always trade back, but come on.
Not having it, ATV.
He's not having it tonight.
Garrett three Fitzgerald says Siggs will just go out.
If Mendoza leaves, Sigs will just go out and take that Cal lefty freshman.
Boy, that would be a, that would be a coup.
And I told you some of the Cal, Oof.
Cornel Bryant 947, Ty Simpson in New Orleans.
I kind of like that fit with Kellynne Moore.
I kind of like, I kind of like where you're getting that there.
I actually do.
That's not a bad.
I can see that as a fit.
That's not a bad fit.
And I love Tyler Shuck, but we'll see.
Okay.
I do want to say before we leave this game,
that was a dangerous Penn State team.
They threw a lot at Ohio State,
and remember they were only down by three at the half,
I think it was, to Ohio State,
and it just wasn't enough.
So to bounce back the way that Penn State did
and to put another effort like that
and arguably even a little bit better,
maybe it's just one more start from Grunkmeier.
was impressive, but also impressive was, and for some reason,
I guess because people just didn't, what was the spread in this?
Like 17 or something?
I guess people just didn't.
Was it that high?
I'm pretty sure.
I'd even look at it.
Wow, I'm surprised by that.
I'm pretty sure.
I mean, I really liked Indiana in that game.
That spread seems really high.
I mean, I'll find it for you right now.
It was, I mean, I'm going to.
I'm going to give you the neighborhood right now.
Oh, no, you're right.
It was 13 and a half.
Okay.
Anyway, so, but for whatever reason,
when a team that doesn't have a ton of NFL guys,
although they're going to,
Indiana is going to have more players drafted this year,
or 2026, I should say, this upcoming draft,
than in my lifetime in a single draft.
And they had more last year than they've had,
I did that over the summer,
more last year than they did.
did in like a couple of decades, but just like three or three or four or whatever it was.
So, but when Elijah Surratt doesn't play and that's not like big, big news, that's surprising to
me. And so Surratt's not in. And next man up. You look up in Omar Cooper. And I want to pull.
Omar Cooper didn't put up. He had the catch of the year. And I wish we had video. We don't have video.
and so there's only so much we can do with it.
But anyone who watched the game,
and if you haven't watched the game,
you've seen it on social media
or wherever you ingest your highlights.
It was almost not humanly possible.
It was almost not humanly possible
to get one of those feet in,
but especially the back foot
without the front foot.
I mean, it defied...
Everyone did you see two feet. I didn't see two feet.
It wasn't two feet. I saw one foot.
It was one.
But it's all the matters.
But my point is, oh, yeah.
So you think, you say, all right, well, Cooper's going to step up and have a monster day.
And then you see that catch.
You're like, oh, Cooper, he was awesome today.
Yeah, he was because he made that catch.
Outside of that catch, folks, was that a 22-yard touchdown catch?
Yeah.
Was it that?
I don't know if was that.
I don't know.
You know what I can find.
I don't know why I'm saying that.
I'll find it right now.
Without that, he had five catches on the day for like 20.
20 yards.
Seven.
That was a seven yard catch.
Okay.
So without that catch, he had no touchdowns, five catches for 25 yards.
And you're saying, Todd, would you land this plane, please?
You keep dancing around where you're trying to go.
My point is, Surrots out.
Cooper has a poor day by his standards before that last catch.
Who's going to step up?
And my spotlight player of the day, because if this guy, and yes, the catch and the Mendoza,
and all the moments.
But if this guy Charlie Becker
doesn't have the day he has,
Indiana's got a loss.
This whole thing's in turmoil.
The Big Ten's kind of feeling like,
oh, you know?
Yes.
It felt really good to have two teams
at the top undefeated.
Becker comes in with seven receptions
for 157 yards and a touchdown
in the first eight games of this season, Steve.
Today he has seven for 118.
6 foot 4
210 pounder
you talk about
Cig just identifying talent
and a guy who's an ex-receiver
in case Surat goes down
all of a sudden here we go
yep
and they had receivers last year
and they lost a couple to the NFL
and just graduation
they're just rolling guys in
and they're not the five stars
they're like this show
they're not all five stars
so I
I just wonder about, like, if they have an undefeated season
or go in this magical run or win the national championship,
like you're going to look back when our age be like,
remember back that time, man, against Penn State.
By the way, first time ever in program history
that won at Happy Valley, I think, right?
Yes, that's correct.
Yes.
And this cat, Becker, who had seven catches for first eight games of season,
has seven today.
That's team football.
I just love that.
If Cooper Jr. catches a slant and it's a routine touchdown,
the catch that we're all talking about after that game is the 17-yard catch
that Charlie Becker had before that,
where he was down along the left sideline and somehow got his feet it in.
I mean, on that drive, there was two incredible plays by those receivers.
And Becker's catch was with 151 left and the fourth,
17-yard catch.
It was an unbelievable play by him.
I'm here Tucker we can come back to this
can you find updated Heismanods on Fanduil
while we're doing this and I'm going to throw this out to the chat
and we're playing one man down tonight and it's totally fine
because our guy deserves to be where he is
and we love Daniel and wish him the best
and he and his family thoughts and prayers are with them
but I don't think we have the capability right now
maybe we do to throw up a poll I'm curious if it's not Mendoza
all these folks in the chat are rocking and rolling tonight
take a minute, let us know who do you think it would be?
And as I say that, I'm asking you, Munch,
someone else out there, Julian Sane is the name that's been thrown out, right?
Okay?
Mm-hmm.
I'm curious to, like, does Ty Simpson get in the conversation?
How about Jeremiah Love?
I mean, Jeremiah Love needs...
I was stalling to get there because I'm surprised.
I saw a couple big runs today.
apparently 13 cares for 94.
What do you have receiving then?
Because he had some big 13 for 94 and two touchdowns.
He had that one for 27.
I guess because I wasn't watching that game.
That was going on simultaneously with Alabama LSU.
And in my house, if Clemson's on,
Clemson's getting one of the four boxes.
And tonight, I honestly, I lost the first floor of my house.
Because I get the four kids downstairs watching Clemson, Florida State.
And I'm like, guys, that's like a combined record of six and 11 or whatever, 12.
And there I can't beat it, old man, go upstairs to your office.
So I didn't, I wasn't, but I only have one catch for 27.
Dude, I must have a 27-yard catch and the two touchdowns.
But he's having an awesome year.
And Notre Dame's relying a lot on him after the very slow start of the season.
Right.
And it was the 24 for 228 against USC.
And it was the 17 for 13-136 against.
B.C.
You know, so, but I don't think it's enough at the running back position to overcome some of
this, this quarterback stuff.
I don't either.
I think he goes to New York, but I think you're right.
I don't think he's, I don't think he's got a real shot of winning it right now.
Tucker, don't, I know I messed with you last week on the chat, Tucker, but I, as I made up,
I hopefully made up for it this week explaining how much I love Tucker.
Not only is a, like, he's the best at what he does.
But he is a wonderful human being.
Truly. But back to the best, he's the best of what he does. Like how quick was that? Julian
saying Ohio State plus 160. So he's, he's still the lead. We'll see if this changes tomorrow.
Right. Mendoza's plus 175. Ty Simpson is plus 450. Then Marcel Reed, Pavia, and Stockton are kind of way on the outside looking in, 700, 2000, 2000.
Um, yeah, and I'm not the biggest, like, like, I love the Heisman's towards the end of the year.
I don't like spend a lot of time on it.
But I was just curious because everything, every show I popped in and out of it was like,
it was, um, Hise Mendoza, right?
Yeah.
Our chats on Mendoza.
Yeah, and Tucker's saying the chats on Mendoza.
Let me pull that back up.
Oh, you feel like Tucker.
Tucker's stepping up.
No wonder why you can't show his pretty face on this show.
He's too busy.
He's right.
Oh, who would you vote for?
Okay, if I told you, say in love, Mendoza, Reed.
Say and love Mendoza Reed.
Forget what it is.
Forget what it is. I have a Heisman vote.
Yep. So can you say, or you have to.
I can share who I'm leaning towards right now.
Can I ask you something else?
I can't share who the winner is.
When do you have to submit your vote by?
Is it after the conference championship or before?
A lot of assholes submit it before, but you're allowed you after the conference
championship.
I always do it that Sunday.
But how do you not wait?
I've been traveling on Sunday, man.
They will track your ass down.
Really?
How do you do it?
Is it an email?
It's changed over the years, but now it's a, it's like a, it's a, it's a, it's almost like
logging into like an app, you know, it's a.
Do you get a VPN and you got to put in your, like a visual thing?
There's like three steps.
You get two separate emails and.
someone hijacked one of the emails.
It's top secret.
They don't mess around.
I bet it is, man.
And I appreciate that.
But I don't appreciate the people who vote before championship weekend because, like, get every
day to point.
Anyway, yeah, honestly, I think saying when it plays out after the conference championship could
very likely be the guy that I wind up voting for if he continues this.
Yeah.
I think Mendoza right now.
maybe you'd make an argument has been a slightly more important for Indiana,
although I just feel like it's so much of team deal with them.
I think Ty Simpson, if you're really truly drilling down,
the most important player, valuable player.
There's a path.
And there's a path for him.
So those would be my three right now with,
I want Jeremiah love there because he deserves.
Yeah, I love Ty.
I think he's been a little inconsistent to the last two games,
but there is a path for him to get to win this thing.
All right, let's move it forward.
Oregon, Iowa.
Man, let me start with this.
I spent a lot of...
Jim Reed, our former coach at Richmond.
University of Richmond.
Who, by the way, reached out to me this past week.
That's awesome.
He's dealt with some health problems,
and I don't want to overindulge here.
But Jim is...
Jim Reed is one of those coaches
where he really don't like playing
for him at times.
And I think he's just fine with that.
But you grow to appreciate him after a lot.
And then I hear the stories behind certain things with me personally.
So I've developed a friendship with Coach Reed.
Yeah.
And he reached out, and I'm not going to, but a lot of days in the hospital,
the great memories of the players, family, guys of coach.
and he he just wanted to let us know that he loves following our draft analysis and
Seuss's podcast.
Yep.
And then talk to me about how my grandfather would be proud.
So, you know, just emotional stuff.
But Jim was there.
Coach Reid was there at Iowa, coach with Ferenz.
Go to Coach Ferrence.
Yep.
And I just, I always love my trips there, man.
I love the people there.
It's an underrated town for like nightlife and food.
and fun.
And honestly, like, when you're as a sideline analyst,
and one of the scariest moments of my life was an upset win,
over Ohio State, Urban Myers' Squad.
And I'm on the field, and Greasy and Levy are throwing down to me,
and I'm getting trampled.
And someone actually threw all the TV cords and everything,
snapped their leg in half.
And it was a mess.
But that fan base, because of the stadium configuration,
is closer than any other.
And Oregon's pretty close, but nothing's like Kinnick.
And it's a pain in the ass when you're working the sidelines like I was,
and I was going, I probably did 50,000 steps a night, whatever it was.
I would work all around and like hang on the end zones and make a run.
And you can't really get behind them.
So you got to get to know the coaches because then you get to kind of sneak through
their, but the fans were wonderful.
And I just, I have a special place in my heart for them.
And I also want to tell you this.
When you sit down on your Friday meetings with certain coaches,
and staffs when you're done, you have great appreciation for some.
Because you go someplace in their use car sales.
And you go other places and they're scattered.
You go other places and they're big business.
You walk in with Nick.
Nick's going to give you your time.
And by the way, some of the most insightful things.
My time sitting in a room with Nick Sabin, but it's a big business.
And when Notre Dame comes in and it's Brian Kelly and Brian and I,
I know it's not everyone's cup of tea.
Brian and I have been close over the years.
But it's patrol men and it's very serious and it's security.
You know, so, but you walk in there, man.
It's like, come on, sit down.
We're going just back off and let's just talk ball.
And let me tell you stories about these players and what they've done to get to
work and what we've asked to them.
So I've always held a special place in my heart and I know like Kirk gets railed on
and you can only do so much.
But yeah, like think about the process.
they're getting. So to watch Iowa today in that spot to come out, and I have such, like,
sitting down with Norm Parker, that defensive coordinator and getting to hear like how his brain
works and how he recruits certain things to play that zone scheme, to be able to tackle, to be
able to angles and discipline and to watch it all beautifully come together against a pretty good Oregon
team and for them to just get Iowa in November weather. And that was a gift for them.
Yeah. And then to see this quarterback that they,
bring in from FCS who did a lot of winning but just can't seem to throw the ball the way they
hoped he could because no quarterback can at Iowa for some reason and all the things and I'm not
ever pulling for anyone but I've just when when he ran it in there for the touchdown and they're up
with like just under two minutes left I'm like my goodness I'm so happy for the people
inside Kinnick and for everyone involved in this program coaches on down but I
don't feel good about this.
And sure enough.
But I just wanted to say that.
Like they work so hard.
They do all the right things.
They're everything that's good and still true about college football.
And so they did everything so well.
But the story to me in this game, the Oregon run game, man.
Yeah.
And the patience that Will Stein had with the Oregon run game.
And in part because his quarterback wasn't dealing.
And in part because it looked like his quarterback,
I heard of hamstring or something.
They were beat up, man.
They didn't have Kenyon Stedatat,
and they didn't have to quarry him more receiver.
They lost someone else early, Gary Bryant.
And in biggest part,
they didn't have their weapons around them.
And don't forget, they lost their star-wide receiver,
Evan Stewart, right?
Early in the year, yeah.
No, in the preseason.
Yeah, yeah.
So they're down three potential first-round draft picks
as their targets.
And against Iowa, when you're Oregon, you get those flashy helmets and Nike involved and the speed and the West Coast.
You want to come in there, spread them out and be like, you just can't run with us.
Right.
But they couldn't.
And so I'm watching all that.
And I'm like, Stein's got to stay patient with it, but it's hard to do that.
And some coordinators would not have been as patient because I still got my guy a quarterback.
But he did and he stayed patient.
Right.
And that fucking throw trailing 16.
That throw by Dante Moore,
that's the other story, right?
And he's going back to school,
and he should go back to school,
and he's not ready.
And the longer he plays this year,
the more you can see,
he needs more.
But that throw, man,
when you had to have it,
when they had to have it,
they got.
And it was one part onion, Steve,
but it was a lot of,
a lot of parts.
Like nine parts,
just pure,
passing brilliance.
Talent,
anticipation,
knowing the exact spot,
and hitting it.
Not many guys can make that throw
and have the Kuyan's to do it.
Not many guys can make that throw
on a Wednesday practice,
let alone in the fourth quarter
on the road in Iowa
with the main coming down
and everyone's hurt
and, you know,
everyone's been questioning your offense
and everyone wonders of this Oregon team
is really as good as we thought
They were after losing Indiana.
I mean, think about all of those things.
I know that's not all going through his mind.
But again, it's a tough throw to make him practice on Wednesday,
let alone in those situations.
Flying Hawaiian 2756, he saw onions too.
He knew it.
And no Cornell Bryant.
We're not on Netflix right now.
I love it.
We'll give you a heads up, brother.
So, yeah.
That was awesome.
You were yelling at Gary Danielson.
And tell folks why you were yelling at him.
Wait, I forget what I said in the chat.
Was he, oh, because they were, it was the two-point conversion, right?
Yes.
Yeah, the two-point conversion that they called in bounds at first and was like just clearly out of bounds.
Well, it's also something about a four-man, Oregon can't be in a four-man.
Oh, I wasn't bad about Gary for that one.
Oh, but I can't believe.
I cannot believe that when Iowa spread, it was, listen,
when Iowa went with that spread set for the touchdown,
that is not going to be a pass.
Like, you don't need to play pass there.
That's them trying to create space for that quarterback draw.
That's what they do with him.
I mean, he's like 11 rushing touchdowns, I think.
And Iowa had four guys in the box.
Like, what are we doing?
Like, you can't, you can't have four guys in the box
and try to double receivers on the outside,
you've got to make him throw that ball
and prove that he can throw that.
I thought that was a brutal defensive call.
I don't know what they were doing there,
but that was way too easy for the quarterback draw to get in.
I was mad at Gary because he was trying to,
they're showing the replay in the Iowa receiver off the tip pass
who tried to make a play.
It wasn't his fault,
but he's like standing clearly in the white.
And Gary's like, did he slide it out?
No.
I mean, it was just a bad call.
That ref made a bad call from the jump.
But I thought, and I hear you, man, I love when you start to get chirping.
It wasn't even close, though.
I was like, what are we doing here?
And I would, by the way, UCLA just scored.
It's 28, 20 extra point pending.
I just had an epiphany while watching this.
New Heisle's son, who was like, you know, the media darling and should be,
and that was awesome, the Penn State.
And Niko and I got a scout telling me this week,
go put on the last three tapes from Nico EMI Maliava because this dude does things that a lot of the other guys can't.
And you keep talking about Dante Moore and Lenora Sellers and maybe Ty Simpson and Mathier and maybe even Mendoza and Arch and Julian Sayan and Lagway and all these other guys.
But Nico might be able to do a lot of things that those guys are some things that those guys can't do.
So with that is the backdrop.
I'm just watching it had an epiphany.
I think someone's got to tell New Heissel the crazier hair, the surfer hair.
He's too, that's the problem.
And now it looks like the headsets coming up right now.
Yeah, like I think he's got a little too Hollywood.
Like we're going to need it just like, we need you fresh off of like Laguna Beach or wherever you're rolling in from.
And it's kind of a messy day.
More mad scientist than cover a GQ.
and that will get the offense rolling.
And you still have several minutes left in this game.
It's a close game.
Actually, a very interesting game for a late-night snack.
So it's 28-21 right now.
What was I talking about?
Oh, talking about all those.
No, what was I talking about?
You got distracted by Nico.
We were talking about.
Gary Danielson.
Gary Danielsson had, I think he perfectly described it in one line.
And that's what has made him one of the greats,
whether you like him now or you don't and all that stuff.
He had a quote that I wrote down and I never do this.
In the history of our show, I don't think I've ever done this.
I wrote this down.
Describing Iowa, Oregon, that was a bare-knuckle football game
until the last two drives.
Yeah.
And I just pictured two guys.
That jumped out to me too.
Went in the alley and like I don't need, I don't need hatchets.
I don't need, I don't need, we don't need gloves.
We're not going in a ring.
I don't need a knife.
I don't need guns.
I just, you and me with these two versus yours.
And there's what it was.
It was ugly and like, and the hits weren't, but they were, they hurt.
And it was physical and it was sloppy.
And there was nothing like explosive about it.
But those last two drives, all of a sudden it was like,
let's get out of here with the win.
I do want to say this.
They gutted it out, by the way.
And that's all that matters.
They found a way to get it for Oregon.
And that's a good Iowa team, man.
I said Noah Whittington.
I did one of my 10 trues four or five weeks ago, whatever it was on Noel
Whittington.
And I think this is the point we're returning.
And that's exactly what he's done.
So I'm proud of that and that I saw the fit and he just as an Oregon back.
And he's the veteran and he's the old.
He's the gray beard of the group.
And that you always want your leader to be the experience one,
but also the guy who has enough talent to hold down the fort.
and he's done that.
But this Jordan Davison's got tools, man.
And Deere Hill, it's got tools.
And I don't know.
I love Hill.
Those three guys, man, it was like the big runs and critical times and good, good,
they found Oregon has.
And I think today was helpful.
Confidence boost, right?
We can do that against that Iowa defense.
Yeah.
What did they finish with, Mench?
261 yards on 363 carries.
Fuck.
You know how that is to do against Iowa?
Yeah, the 46-yard or the 49-yard scramble for more, you know,
bumps that up a little bit, obviously, but still, they were really good.
And hats off that offensive line for buckling up their chin straps and saying,
you know, we're going to, they, Oregon essentially won this game in the trenches.
Their defensive line was tough and strong enough to withstand, you know, Iowa's 43 carries.
Steve, they were giving up 83.8. Iowa was given up 83.9.
10th best in the FBS, right?
I think they were 10th best.
Coming into the day, that's absurd what they did.
Yeah.
So you feel really good about that, and this is a confidence boost, and this hopefully.
And they ran well against Wisconsin, too.
Yeah, the run game is there now.
That's the silver lining.
And the quarterback's there, but now you've got to get your freshman receiver back
because your veteran, Emm Stewart's not, not, he's out for the year.
And it was just enough.
I said this.
The thing when I did the early report on Dante Moore is, I love Decorian Moore.
And he's going to be that guy, the guy that we think he might be.
Like, I truly believe he's going to be.
But he's a pup.
I worry that he looks a little lean, and now we're seeing some durability stuff.
And I just don't feel like they got another guy.
And then I'm talking to a scout this week.
And this is, I'm going to hit you with this.
And I kind of alluded to it.
There's frustration with Kenyon Sadiq.
And there's quotes like, you know, love the way he showed up in the things.
things he did effort-wise and toughness and leadership when he was tight-end two.
Remember, because they did a draft pick last year.
Yeah.
Now is tight-end one, they didn't say the word diva, but all the things they were saying
felt like, eh, you know, why isn't he practicing today?
Like, is it that bad?
Is he protecting himself for the NFL?
Did he hear all those people talking about first round?
He's tight-end one.
And kind of the messaging back to me was from the scout I talked to,
How many targets is he at, bud?
Before everyone goes anointing him, tight end one.
He's a better blocker at this point,
which is a weird,
and we were discussing this on our conversation, on our call.
It's weird to be like,
I really wish this guy would just battle through
and shows leadership and be consistent and be...
But then you watch him on tape,
they're like, this is a nasty, tough son of a bitch, right?
Right.
So that doesn't add up, right?
Because the physical play in the blocking game,
you would think, oh, this guy's showing it.
He's a lunch pail guy.
But there's a reason they're not targeting him that much.
And I don't have the target numbers,
nor do I care to look it up right now.
People can look it up if they want or they can just trust the fact
that for a guy that is a tight end one,
think about Colston Loveland and his target percentage
and his market share, if you will.
Think about Tyler Warren and his 18 catches against USC and records.
Yeah.
But when you got a guy like that and you lose an evidence to,
in the preseason,
why isn't he getting this guy?
Yeah.
He should be featured.
So just something to file away
as we get down to the stretch run here.
And if
he's not showing up as a receiver,
I'm telling you why right now.
Okay.
And the second part is,
and a lot of it too,
hasn't developed as a route runner.
Thought he would be more advanced.
Like, he's not,
he's not separating,
naturally, you know,
with the things he could be doing.
and then when we get to the NFL draft,
if it's, well, there's another guys
or he's not going to sign.
So I'm just kind of letting people know
what's actually going on behind the scenes.
So while a lot of great things from this Oregon win
and a lot of positives about the run game
and the defense to a certain degree,
that's something that is a concern
down the stretch for Oregon.
All right, we've got to keep rolling.
I thought the defense was good, by the way.
Other than that call, that defense called.
I mean, they gave up seven.
there, but they also gave a 50-yard field goal.
They played pretty well today, man.
You know who really showed up today, too?
Who's that?
And I'm...
Listen, you know I'm a Home Depot guy, right?
Mm-hmm.
And all right, so it's time.
It's time to get into a special segment of the show.
It's called Home Field Advantage.
It's brought to you by our friends of the Home Depot.
The place to build your dream game day setup on your own,
home field, right?
Whether it's the tailgate, your backyard, or your living room.
If you think creating a home field advantage isn't important,
why don't you go to Lubbock, Texas?
And we touched on Lubbock earlier, and it had been since 2008.
But, like, when I think of home field and the importance,
and I think of college football and West Texas,
like, Lubbock has been starved for this.
And, yeah, they had Mahomes, and he, absolute legend.
and what he's given back to that program
and showing up in Game Day today.
And I'm sure the financial
and wearing the Homes ice jerseys and all that.
But honestly, it's about West Texas
and loving your football.
And when you go to that town,
there's literally nothing else besides oil rigs going
and Red Raider football.
And to watch those fans at noon,
11 a.m.
from their 4 a.m. the night before.
And to watch this coaching staff and how they've embraced all of it
and the players embracing it with the students.
And there's just something going on in Lubbock right now, man.
And yeah, cynics can say, well, great, fine with your Home Depot comp.
If I had $3 million, I could do an awesome home renovation.
And Texas...
Seven million for that defensive line, by the way.
million.
Seven million.
Yes,
seven million for the defensive line.
I get it.
But there's also a culture going on.
And when we talk about home field advantage,
so I wanted to get in this.
This game,
we bought in early on Texas Tech.
I was a skeptic, and then we did
the tape, and I said, this defense is
different.
This defense has got NFL guys,
all three levels, but especially
the front level.
But then they had the quarterback situation.
And, and we,
We became Will Hammond guys, and Baron Morton is susceptible.
And then he got nicked up and Hammond came in.
Then Hammond got beat up.
All those things.
But this defense is going to travel.
And that's a BYU team that's not on offense and they're not overly creative.
And they win by running the football.
And they're running back who was valiantly playing.
I told you he's going to be a draft pick.
And you could see some of the flashes.
But he's just he's grinding with his shoulder and a sling and all of that.
But my goodness, being at.
at home with that defense in that scene,
couldn't beat it today.
That was a huge win.
Eight versus seven.
Even though the Big 12 is trying to handcuff them,
I think it's the Big 12.
You heard about the tortilla situation, right?
Yeah.
If they throw tortillas, they not only get fine now,
they get a penalty.
It's actually, it's something that I've thought about.
If they get into a tight game at home
and a tortilla gets thrown,
And it's a, I mean, only in college football, only, you know, in West Texas.
Is that where they are, West Texas?
Like, only could this happen where a tortilla could affect a national championship run for a football team.
Well, it's not people in West Texas.
It's people, it's executive somewhere else.
No, I mean, though, they won't let them throw their tortillas.
Like, it's just now a thing of.
It's like me building my outdoor shower and liking to walk around naked a little bit.
I'm sorry for the mental image here at 1223.
No.
But like if I'm going to put my blood and sweat and tears into a project,
you're damn right as the owner of this home.
I'm going to walk around naked and I'm going to piss where I want to piss sometimes.
You're going to let the onions breathe.
You got to let the onions breathe, man.
No one, Home Depot's not calling in and throwing a penalty on me or finding me.
So it's no.
Right.
They're getting handcuffed.
They are getting handcuffed.
I don't like it.
But I do like what they got going on there.
Why don't you, I've talked too much, as always.
What do you got on this game and then I want to finish for something?
I think David Bailey was worth every penny they are paying that, man.
I think that when you look at how he impacts,
how he impacts the game as a pass pressure is the first thing you're going to talk about
because it's the most important thing.
How he was against the run today was outstanding.
And then you always want your best players to have the greatest motor.
And this two is nonstop.
I mean, he's just got a nonstop motor.
I'm impressed with, with Bailey.
I think that, again, every penny he's worth it.
And that defense is awesome.
And Jacob Rodriguez, you highlighted on, was it on the rough draft?
I think it was.
Yeah.
Just awesome again today.
Interception.
Every game.
Every game gets you, get me in the ball one time, please.
And then he pops the Heisman pose.
It's just awesome.
Oh, yeah, it's just, he's just, he's.
just awesome. I will say on the flip side,
the Baron Morton-Hill situation is
concerning, especially now that Will Hammond's out
with a torn ACL for the year. They don't
have the safety net that we thought that they
had earlier in the year. And
hats off to how tough he is.
Because you can tell
that I guess it's a hairline fracture
in his leg. I can't imagine playing with a
airline fracture in my leg. I can't imagine walking
a mile with a
airline fracture in my leg, let alone what this
guy's doing. It is concerning for
them going forward and it's going to be interesting to see how that plays out. But again,
they got their money's worth with Bailey and Jacob Rodriguez is an absolute dude.
I touched on this the other day, just watching him today and I haven't watched the tape.
And by the way, Cole, Maria, I appreciate you understanding. She said if we're off the rails,
I had to apologize to her on the chat and think about the females in our audience, but she
She likes that we're, you know, we've completely lost our mind.
And she said not safe for work.
McShay is my favorite, McShay.
Yeah, why not?
I mean, it's almost a one in the morning, right?
Ruben Bain's an awesome player.
Peldrick Falk is an awesome player.
Miami and Auburn, respectively, both projecting the top 10,
past rushers get paid, getting home as a pass rusher.
is the most important thing at the second most important position in football,
in the National Football League, behind quarterback.
Nobody does it better than David Bailey.
And today was just another reminder.
And it wasn't the sack stuff as much as it was pressures,
and it was hustling to the ball, and it was tackles for loss,
and it was sealing off edges.
The guy felt like that first drive, match,
that first drive literally from the first play of scrimmage,
like, hey, I'm excited today.
I get to Bucklegg's noon, right?
I get to hunker down and watch a little Big 12 football.
Haven't been able to do enough of that this year.
Game days there.
The most important Big 12 game, and I don't even know how long.
Honestly.
Yeah.
Maybe.
Yeah.
Honestly.
Long time.
Since Oklahoma and Texas were there probably.
Right.
Literally the first play from scrimmage pressure.
Forces the ball out like in a flash.
Whoa.
you got Bachmeier like, whoa.
Yeah.
Two or three plays later, whatever it was,
tip ball.
That's in the first series.
And what I wrote down here.
Oh, yeah.
And then I just went on all the different,
I was going down through my notes of different things that I saw from him in the game.
And then it was hustle play from behind.
It was, it was working down the line of scrimmage.
It was flying to the ball.
It was explosive contact upon hitting.
All these things that you look for.
and Nebraska held on 2821, by the way.
I told you it was, you got, you got to blame.
Give credit, we're credit to Nebraska.
But I'm blaming the hair.
We've got to slop that thing up and get back in the lab.
It's wrong with you.
A lot of things.
By the way, I'm going to push back because this is what happens.
This is what happened on this Saturday.
I love Bailey.
He's one of the top two pass rushes in this class,
and I am terrified by the sample size.
but Ohio State's Arvel Reese is a unique cat as a pass rusher man.
He is a little more.
The one thing about Bailey that I worry about is that,
and I saw this in the Arizona State game,
and I was watching it the other days,
that we talk about that bend without losing your balance.
Bailey's got amazing shock in his hands.
Like for a guy who's not that big, he plays big.
He's an amazing shock in his hands,
and he works everything off of that,
and he's got a devastating spin move that he works in,
and he has really great instincts as a pass rusher.
All of those things are true for him.
I love his tape.
Arvel Reese is different.
Devastate.
He can win.
He can win in every which way.
And the sample size is small,
but the win rate is outrageous.
I mean, outrageous how good he is.
So those are two of my favorite players to watch.
I guess my point is we're in November.
And I can't stand when everyone's like,
this is the truth.
Like this is over.
I'm telling you there are people in the league
that have been on the road for eight plus weeks
who think I might,
I'm probably getting it.
I'm taking Bailey over Bain.
I'm taking Bailey over Falk.
I need guys.
I got Bailey in the top 10 right now.
So my question to you is,
and I know my answer,
but for you, is it assonine that Bailey's the first edge rusher off the board?
I have Bain
I have Bain with the 92
I have Falk with the 91
and I have Bailey with the 91
is Bain Jr. at 4, Bailey at 9
and Kellear Falk at 8.
I mean that's no, so no, it's not.
Right now I think there is Bain is slightly ahead of all
both those guys, but to say that it is at ass nine,
it is absolutely not.
I mean, they are all top 10 players in my mind
and we'll see how it sorts itself out.
There's a, like you said, there's a lot to go here.
I mean, I know it feels like it's late in the season,
but there's a lot to figure out still.
And I think Ramello Heights is going to wind up being a second day pick.
And I think those three defensive tackles that they rotate are all going to be draft picks either
26 or 27.
Yep.
I think there are three guys drafted an interior defensive line in 26 and 27 combined.
That's five guys up front that are going to be draft picks in the next two years from that
defensive line.
And yeah, it costs them seven mill.
but if you're going to spend money, spend it wisely,
and that's exactly what they did.
It's called investing.
So for Texas Tech,
and I know people don't like love going into,
but like get used to it because this is,
and we'll get to the TMS top 12 in a little bit
to finish out the show, as we always do on Saturday night.
But, oh, shoot, I'm just looking up Texas Tech right now.
What do we get left?
We're nine and one, six and one the conference,
top team from the from the big 12 obviously
we're going to be sitting there at seven
not to spoil alert it but we're not getting higher
but but we're not seven seventh in the country
they're going to be ranked on Tuesday night when we do
when they do the reveal show yeah
and they've got UCF and west Virginia left
it's going to take a major meltdown a major
overlooking for them not to win those two games
yeah and then you like him again
whoever they're going to get.
I mean, who is they going to get in a...
And I'll be honest with you,
we have to have a representative from the Big 12,
and it's not...
Don't take that the wrong way.
There's only going to be one representative
from the Big 12, and we've known that for a while.
I do think the Big 12 is a little bit better
than people think, but it's still not...
It's not the SEC, and it's not the Big Ten,
and that's understandable.
I've wanted since about week four that it is Texas Tech,
because when in a tournament setting,
they are the team that,
they're the best team, period.
They're the team because of that defense
that scares me the most.
They're the team that could actually,
I'm dying, we didn't have a fucking,
we didn't sniff an upset last year in the first round.
Remember how gross it was?
No.
Yeah.
They're a team that could
shock somebody
because that defense smothers,
stifle somebody.
And they drew just enough on offense.
So, I don't know.
I'm excited about Texas Tech.
Here's the funniest thing about that, okay,
is that I don't know what the update numbers are going to be.
I feel exactly how you feel.
That's how I feel when I watch them.
They do just enough on offense.
Do you know what they're averaging points per game?
43.6.
That is funny.
But McShay, I see the same thing.
Like when I'm watching Barron-Morton,
I'm like, this is an inconsistent offense.
And I'm watching Cameron Dickey,
and I'm like, he's a really good running back, but I'm not blown away.
They're averaging 43 plus points, and I know they didn't put that up today.
I get that.
I understand that.
But that BYUu defense, I have a lot of respect for, by the way.
Me too.
That's a tough, aggressive BYU defense.
So I kind of, you know, I get that they didn't.
But this is, they are, they put up points, man.
But I get the same feeling when I'm watching.
I'm not blown away by their offense.
And maybe that's, maybe I'm wrong about that.
Maybe he'll get in the playoff and they'll show to me that that offense is just,
as good as it against a higher level of competition
as it has been against Big 12 competition.
But I don't know.
We'll see.
But today was a celebration, truly, of Lubbock, Texas Tech,
what their...
Mahomes is there.
That stadium, what would...
The energy inside that stadium, what they're built.
So let me get back to...
Awesome for those people.
That, like, they gave Texas Tech an edge, and it was clear,
and that's when we do our Home Depot break-ins every Saturday night.
I want to make sure we represent what Home Depot is all about, right?
And you can create your own home field advantage,
whether you're tailgating at the stadium or watching from your backyard or living room.
The Home Depot has everything you need for a game day setup that brings the energy from the grills and the smokers
from top brands like Traeger, Next Grill, and Weber to fire pits and smart lighting,
speakers, outdoor TVs, and more.
Fast free delivery.
I've been telling you guys about this.
I live 25 miles away from anything,
and I'm telling, like,
I don't build a couple of the things around this house
if it's not for the fast delivery,
because I'm the worst shopper.
I go places and then I always leave,
and I'm like, shit, you did it again, McShay.
Fast free delivery, over 2 million online items delivered free to your door,
subject to availability.
See home depot.com for details.
That's Home Depot,
how doers get more done.
All right.
I've always wondered on an outdoor TV.
I'm going to have to get with the Home Depot folks.
Figure out how we can set that up.
No, they'll take care of it.
They'll take care of it.
Yeah, the setup's the critical part.
I almost just clicked out of our Zoom.
That would have been wild.
The absolute, the chat would have loved it
because the absolute panic that would have come over me.
Where do you go?
I'm going to do that to you one time now.
Not tonight.
That would be too obvious.
for everyone but me.
Oh, that would be great.
You'd kill it.
Okay.
Moving on, I did, oh, Texas A&M, Missouri.
This is a good one from Marcel Reed.
Yeah.
Not a great one.
I'm saying to go, I care less about the special plays,
the big moments, the big numbers.
I care more about protecting the football efficiency.
He was 20 of 29 for 211 yards,
two touchdowns, no interceptions,
didn't have to run the ball a ton.
Didn't five for 29.
And that's a damn good Missouri defense.
They didn't have Beau Probula.
They have not been the same offensively.
The young quarterback who stepped in, he's got a big time arm,
but my gosh, he's got to learn to take a little heat off the fastball.
I don't know.
The Aggies have got to chill on the penalties.
Read and read it.
Which is so weird for an Elko team, I would think.
I know.
I don't understand.
Why is it like he's such.
It's like the last remnants of Jimbo Fisher and the other troubles they've had as a program.
It's like the last, just trying to get that last, because they play as a team, they're committed.
They truly have a culture.
They work.
They're everything that Texas A&M wasn't for so long with all the money and all the support
and all the things they do and the cult-like environment and atmosphere.
And it works for them.
Right.
But they never had these things that they have now,
like good, disciplined coaching where players bought in and believed,
and they prepared as hard as they played on Saturdays,
and it was real.
It never has felt my entire existence,
my entire existence in this industry,
it's never felt real.
Maybe for a Saturday night in College Station,
maybe this, maybe some Johnny Mansell splashed with this,
but it's never felt like a real, like from the ground up building on firm foundation,
like it does now, but they're going to have to cut out the penalties.
And Marcel, if he plays like this, maybe they don't get got, like I keep saying.
So that was, those were the positives.
And I do want a couple things.
Concepcion Craver, we've come to expect.
10 catches, 143 in a touchdown combined.
I do like this ABR guy, even though he only had like two catches today.
He keeps flashing in moments.
He flashes, man.
Yeah.
It's, uh, it's Ashton Bethel Roman.
I'm telling, there's going to be a moment in this, in this season where Concepcion, they've taken Concepcion away, and they've taken Craver away, and they need someone to step up.
He seems like the guy who might not be your eight, nine catch guy a game, because we've got two cats on the outside to do this.
but ABR's got something in him
and there's somebody else I want to mention
the best nickname in college football
that I only became aware tonight
because I had to Google him to see what year he was
is he a freshman or a sophomore
he's actually a red shirt sophomore
played a decent amount as a freshman
redshirted last year played like two or three games limited
his production is increased over the course of the year
his name is Rubin Owens.
And kind of
with all the Concepcion magic
and the Craver magic and the Marcell
Reed and all these different things going on,
people haven't realized that they're starting to develop
this bell cow back
and his name is Rubin Owens.
And again tonight, he rushed for
102 yards on 13 carries
and two touchdowns.
He's a talent.
He's in the last, go back, look at his numbers,
the last month of the season. He's become a guy.
Do you know what his nickname is?
is what's that the black unicorn oh my god i did not that's amazing it's amazing how am i the first to
market with this would you hear that on the broadcast thing no it's on the web i've never told you i
i i just googled his name real quick because i'm writing out all these notes before we come on
the show and i'm i was like rubin holt i'm trying to figure i know it because i saw on one of the
sites. He's like, 5-11, 215.
I'm like, but it didn't have their,
what year they were. I'm like, give me
a little background on the sky. Because now I'm seeing
the last few weeks, he's become a real thing.
Yeah, because leave you on Moss.
No, I know. I know. Yeah, so that's why he's getting more run, but he's
like taking advantage. He is a sophomore.
He's a registered sophomore.
He's a freshman. Right under. It says Ruben,
Ruben, Black, uh, black,
uh, black unicorn,
Owens. And I was like, no way. So then I did,
I got to, he's going to have this wrong, by the way.
Okay. Google it.
I'm looking at it now.
Hey, Ozzy family. I'm not going anywhere. I'm not going to Fox College on Saturday morning.
I appreciate you asking. My buddy, pornois there. They can do their thing.
Yep, the black unicorn.
Isn't that awesome?
Amazing. Amazing.
I'm not going anywhere unless this show's going together and it's with the ringer and Simmons and everybody else.
We're going to make a run here that is going to be legendary for the next 20 years.
I'm just getting warmed up.
Black unicorn is my new favorite nickname.
That's crazy.
I love it.
There's some great ones out there.
The Godfather for Dante Corleone, the defensive lineman from Cincinnati.
That's not as good as a black unicorn, though.
It's not.
It had the high school thing.
It's just not.
It's just, it's perfect.
All right.
Last game, Georgia, Mississippi State.
Then we've got to do the TMS top 12.
Georgia, Mississippi State.
Georgia blows the doors off.
I don't have a ton I want to say in this game outside of.
Yeah.
I do like the trio that's developed as Zachariah Branch, Noah Thomas, and Oscar Dope.
Noah Thomas is kind of a dude, man.
He's stepped up, and that's what I want to say.
He's stepped up, and Zachary Branch, every time he catches the football,
my heart, I get like a fib, like, or like a little, you know.
Mm-hmm.
and then you get Noah who's developing.
It was Colby Young.
How long's Colby Young out for?
I don't know.
I don't know.
I love him too.
But then Nate Frazier.
Yeah, yeah.
Would you real quick?
Nate Frazier, they've got a good tandem now at running back,
but Nate Frazier needs to be this Nate Frazier.
And it's easy to say, and it's hard to replicate.
But get him 12 to 15, but we need the explosives from him.
Today he was absolutely fire, like just 12 for 181 and a touchdown.
And we've gotten to the point, and I didn't think this certainly coming into the year, man.
But we've gotten to the point where it's like, yep, another day in the park.
Gunner stocked in another day in the park.
Yep, here we go.
18 for 29, 264, three touchdowns, no interceptions.
Yep, good day.
Nice job, kid.
Right?
If you told me in August, you told me in July after seeing him at the Manning camp throw the football,
that this guy's was having an average day going 264, three touchdowns, no picks, I'd be like, no.
Really?
Yeah.
Yeah.
What?
Why is Kirby smart such a great coach?
Keeps his cool and crazy situations.
Obviously, number one, great recruiter, right?
Yeah.
Keeps his cool and crazy situations.
There's so many things, really.
But, like, I think what goes on the radar is how good he is at developing players and then at large developing teams.
This Georgia team, you cannot tell me that this Georgia team is not way better than they were at the beginning of the year.
Oh, my gosh.
Way better than they are at the beginning of the year.
Like, this is a team, like, five weeks ago, I was like, I don't know, man.
You know, when they barely beat Tennessee and then they lost to Alabama, I was like, I don't know.
But I'm not going against Kirby.
I made this mistake last year.
I'm not going against Kirby.
and I'm glad I didn't because here we are
we're like, dude, this team is
a legitimate championship contender.
They are, and I don't know
if I really thought that at the beginning of the year.
I was like, we're not buying into the Stockton thing.
They don't have enough on defense.
And I'm sitting here saying,
dude, of course they are.
Of course they're in a position to make another run.
Who is?
We got a new king on the top of the castle in this chat.
I'm not ignoring you much.
I heard everything you're saying.
I wish you back can't be happy.
Kaden.
Arkeeder
371 number one in chat today
I mean
ATB can't be happy about that
Jeremy Godin
was hanging out number two
he's normally in the top three
yeah
male Kiper I need to get to the bottom of this
this male Kiper
I love that's my favorite
male Kiper
M-A-L-L-A-L-A-L-A-L-A-L-
E K-Y-Y-P-E-R.
Every once in
while, male Kuiper will just take a shot in there.
I love the ghost of Steve Adazio.
I don't, it's just such a random, but great name.
It is a great name.
But I guess my big takeaway on this is
Mississippi State's not a horrible team.
Mississippi State's been a pretty good team,
and they've beat some decent teams.
And they've competed.
They've competed with that.
They make things uncomfortable for teams.
when they don't win.
And the cowbells were rocking.
And today was like,
it could have been a little bit of a hornetess.
And even Fandul was like,
we're going to put eight and a half on this.
We don't trust Georgia.
For all the reasons you shouldn't trust Georgia.
So we're only going to make them an eight,
eight and a half point spread because we don't know if they're going to give up 14
to start the game like they did in Tennessee.
Or they're going to be trailing by 14, 17, 20 in the fourth quarter
and find a way to win miraculous.
We just don't trust Georgia yet.
I kind of was looking at this game saying,
I don't trust them either.
But man, I would, I just, I didn't always pull for the Kirby Smart team
because they were winning, and I'm not polling for anyone.
But you know what I mean?
Like some years I'm like, kind of want, I get it.
Go make a run.
Right.
And so like they reached the pinnacle and you had all the draft picks and all this stuff.
And this year, and even last year, but last year they were unlikable because of their
quarterback.
This year they're likable in part because of their quarterback.
He's just one of them.
He's the worst interview in the history of quarterback interviews.
And we've had so many bad ones.
Have you watched Gunner Stockton give an interview after?
Yes, yes.
It's almost like some guys at the frat, like made a bet with them.
How bad can you like, how bad?
Not bad, but like how just uninteresting.
I love that he's just one of the guys, though.
He really is just one of the guys.
And that's why they're like Carson.
It's a perfect way of saying it.
Take your Lamborghinis and all the stuff and go down to South Florida.
And that's a better fit.
This guy's a better fit for here.
And I'm watching Kirby without all that talent.
And they've got some talent.
And they count like KJ Bolden's going to be a draft pick.
He's not a perfect prospect of safety,
but he's a damn good football player.
And he had 14 tackles today, Mitch.
And CJ Allen's just a stud.
and another like eight tackles today in a sack.
This Raylan Wilson guy, I'm starting to notice a little bit more.
He had a sack and a half today in 10 tackles.
They're getting him involved a little bit more aggressive.
Gramping it up.
But anyway, I wanted to see before I could be like, yeah, Georgia might.
I wanted to see a game like this where they came out and I don't have to step,
but it was like 24 in the second quarter.
And they're like, we needed eight weeks or whatever it was to kind of
put things together.
But now, like, you, now we're coming into town.
Yeah, this is what happens when we flex.
Kyle bells are cute.
They can't do that.
Cowbells are cute, but this isn't Georgia in September.
You're getting a different animal.
And I love that because that's coaching.
That's program.
Yeah.
It's unbelievable.
All right.
We've been going a long time.
He's such a good coach.
I've gotten in trouble five ways to Tuesday.
Male Kipers shooting off.
things at me and and um and i've i was worried that cole marie was going to be upset but she's here
for the shenanigans um oh cole marie if we could get edo back to lSU i mean i don't it's not
the right move for anyone of course not all does anyone know what happened why he left there
but no one cares because it would be awesome um i'm here for that all right cfp the rest
The rankings come back out the second time around.
Everyone cares the first time.
No one really seems to care the next handful of times
until it's right before the championship game
when it becomes the most important one
because it really basically gives you the answers to the test.
And if it didn't give you the answers to the test,
we get a whole lot to bitch about on Selection Sunday, right?
Or whatever they have to brand it.
So to not interfere with college hoops and their branding.
The TMS top 12, though.
That's how we brand it.
And it's the best rankings out.
there.
Unfortunately,
let's just take, let's just take this time, though, when it wasn't easy
last week going in and say we absolutely nailed it.
And not because the college football committee got it right,
but because the college football committee may have made enough little tweaks
that they're starting to see it the same way.
And we're hopeful, given some of the changes in March and the different seating,
that this would be a better,
more refined version of the 12 team playoff.
And it's looking like if the first polls or rankings release from the CFP committee is indicative
of what we're going to get from here on out, I have more faith in the system than I have
in my entire lifetime.
Agree.
My entire lifetime.
Okay.
That's awesome.
Yep.
So with that said, you got.
seven of the top 12, no, nine of the top 10, right?
All one.
They will.
Yeah.
And teams 11 and 12 on a buy.
Right.
Massive game for Oklahoma and Alabama next week.
And Texas has got a big game next week, right?
We got a huge week next week, I believe.
Whatever.
Is Texas?
I do want to say this.
Just keep this sneaky.
little eye on USC at 7 and 3 still.
I'm not saying they're getting in.
I know. I've been saying
for a long time, there's
something, I just,
they were at 19,
okay?
And in the meantime, the ACC
continues to absolutely
implode. It's becoming
a laughing stock, and it's sad
because I love a lot of people
in that conference, and I love
a lot of programs in that conference.
And I didn't want Virginia to lose,
who's Aunt Lisa, man, the woods, my cousins.
I know.
My aunt, my uncle, Craig Lisa.
I mean, tight family.
But it's coming.
It was coming.
And Louisville, you know, the appreciation of love I have for Brahms,
and I've always had a special place for Miller Moss,
even though he hasn't become what I thought he might be,
but still.
But you look at those two programs losing,
and USC's sitting at 19,
and there's just like, I don't know, just keep an outside look.
That's one one little, oh, by the way, Michael.
They still got to play.
Remember the notes like, Iowa and Oregon?
I know.
Who?
Iowa and Oregon.
They still have.
USC does.
Which you see as concerning.
I see his opportunity.
No, I don't see as concerning.
I see that as opportunity.
Okay.
All right.
Yeah.
I wasn't sure of your tone.
No, no, no.
But yeah, there's just an outside looking in.
What's, and I, side note, remember the McKaylor's,
Mackay Lemon stuff I was telling you about, the scouts talking the other day.
And this wide receiver won things a little bit more up for grabs than you think.
And some like Carnell Tate and some like Jordan Tyson.
But there's more people that might like Mackay Lemon than people thought.
He went, and I know it's Northwest.
But 11 for 161 and 2.
He's just stacking weeks of tape.
But there's only one move that really is going to be made here.
And it's BYU is going to be knocked out of the top 12.
and now it fits well
there will be obviously that 12 seed
but if we're talking about the top 12 teams
and the 12th seed will be Memphis
right assuming
no Memphis lost today
oh my gosh it's lame
oh we need that's why I have no idea what's happening there
that's why I just move my hack
because I was like he's going to ask me who the at large is
and I have zero idea no I love it
well let's do this first of all
Not the, the group of five at large is not going to be in the top 12.
So let's get our top 12 figured out before we get back to that.
They're not even in the top 25.
There's no one of the top 25.
No, I know.
You've got to go to the other, like the others receiving votes.
It's, no, North Texas, right?
It might be North Texas.
No.
They have a shot.
Who's the, there's, um,
here we go.
But my point is this, sorry.
This is one in the morning.
BYU will be knocked out.
Everyone moves up.
So at the end of the day, it's going to be Ohio State 1, Indiana 2, A&M 3, Alabama 4, Georgia 5, Ole Miss 6, as it was last week, as we predicted and as we thought it should be, not predicted.
I don't care.
I'm just telling you, those are the best 6 teams and the most deserved 16s.
In that order, you agreed it's our TMS consensus top 12, the TMS top 12.
the TMS top 12 that we do every Saturday night
and it's exactly what the committee came up with
so it gave us some confidence
and then the next seven teams
were not in the order we put them
but we didn't have a huge problem with the order they put them in
and it also was the
or the other six teams right from seven to 12 I should say
they were all the same teams well now
they get BYU gets knocked out
Texas Tech moves up to seven behind Ole Miss
Oregon moves up to eight
I would presume
tough wins
not beautiful.
Yeah.
Injuries.
They're moving up one spot.
So it's seven Texas Tech.
Oregon 8,
Notre Dame 9.
Texas 10.
Oklahoma, 11.
And then I got to believe
at 13 was Utah.
I mean, I wrote the other,
like they're hunting.
Head of the ACC team.
I'm going Vanderbilt 12.
After going to overtime?
Against Auburn?
I do who that's a talented all-brate team with the getting the bounce getting the
bounce after the coach got got got fired you kidding me who's winning vanderbilt or
Utah JMU's the team I was thinking of jam you yep you're right jmews in the mix
they are in the mix jm u I've been I've been kind of um I've been a fan I mean obviously we have
We have a lot of history.
It was one of the rivals at Richmond,
and we know all the history,
and then obviously, Signetti's there.
But Bob Chesney,
also another local guy from Holy Cross
and coached in this area.
Chesney's one of the hot names in college football.
I told you this a few weeks ago when we were talking about coaching,
and I don't know that any one of the bigger programs
would have the onions to do it.
But he's a name to keep an eye on.
But he's a name to keep because he's going to get this next bridge job,
and then from the bridge job, it's going to be a massive job,
is my guess.
That's how his arc is going.
So I'm just saying keep an eye out
You know
There's different polls and like
There was
North Texas
JMU or the two
And South Florida
So we'll see how it all plays out
But that's it
Right
Yeah
Except for animal
I say it's going to be Utah
But we have to have a TMS
And it's going to get posted tomorrow
On the McShay report
And this is the one thing that we do
that's consensus.
And so you're going to try to fight me on Vanderbilt.
I loved Utah.
I loved Utah coming into the year.
I do love that offensive line.
We'll go Utah.
But I think that's an interesting argument to make.
And it's tough on the committee to put,
if you put Vanderbilt there,
you would now have one, two, three, four,
five, six, seven SEC teams in the top.
Six, seven.
Um,
That celebration is getting out of control.
I kind of like it, though, to be honest with you.
Well, the thing is, I was doing it in September for you,
and you were looking at me like I had five heads.
I did it to Rissillo back in, like, the first week of September.
I bet Rissol Lowe.
Talking about trade.
He had no idea.
That's my point.
But I know this.
When game day starts to bring something that's so, like, the kids are doing,
it means it's time to walk away.
It's tapped.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I promise you.
That's right. It's right.
I promise you.
And so.
No offense to them, but yeah.
Yeah, but I mean.
And when Mark, but I will say Mark Gronoski when he scored that touchdown to go up.
Yeah.
16, 15, 17, 16, whatever was.
And you could hear the odds like, seven.
And I was like, oh, college kids are still doing it.
Yep.
Still.
And my son and Mia and Tate were like, run it back.
He didn't say that.
And they got up right.
Oh, he did.
He did.
Six, seven.
All right.
It couldn't be older right now.
Well, it was a long one.
I didn't expect it to be.
But, but like, honestly, for you and me, Mench, we were solid.
We were fun.
We do what we do.
Hold on.
Hold on.
We have no idea why.
Tucker just asked us.
What?
But the chat is asking that we go to one o'clock,
that we have to get to the extra minute.
We don't want to cut them out.
Is this some kind of weird thing?
but we'll definitely do it.
You guys want to count us down?
How many seconds left?
I'll go, give us one more nugget, Munch.
Give me something.
Give me one player.
Give me anything so we can have real good content.
The Evansville basketball game,
Patriot League they're talking about.
It's come off the realm.
Oh, Mount Union.
Always trade back.
Give me that Mount Union information.
I always trade back.
Apparently Mount Union,
the Division III Mount Union has won 32.
If you're in there, always show you back, give me the numbers
because it was like 32 straight conference titles
or something like that.
And they have a freshman quarterback who looks like he's going to be,
if not this year, a future Division III,
like Heisman winner, whatever that's called.
It's a weird name for it.
But he was hitting me up on a...
Tucker for the win.
Tucker's now the new fan favorite.
Tucker for the win.
1 a.m. baby, there you go.
Bonus XP.
1,000 X.
five stars. I love it. All right. We did it.
Mountain Union is dominant. Brandon, self K-3K. That's all we got. Division three, yeah, we know.
Just some love, man. Thanks, Tucker, says Godin. All right, we appreciate you. Not only did we make it to 1 a.m., we just made it to 101, and maybe we'll do it again next Saturday night.
but I can tell you this, because of all of you on this chat, it's another five stars.
