Welcome to Meat Eater Trivia, the only game show where conservation always wins.
I'm your host, Spencer Newarth, and today we're joined by Yanis, Brody, Randall, Seth, Alyssa, Max, Christine, and Logan.
This is a 10-round quiz show with questions from Meat Eaters 4 Verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking.
And there is a prize. Meat Eater will donate $500 to the conservation
organization of the winner's choosing. And for the stat of the week this week, we're looking
at the number 11. That's how many days there are until Father's Day. So if you plan on getting
something online, consider this your final warning that it's time to place an order. Oh,
and it just so happens that we have the perfect gifts for dad over at TheMeatEater.com. There's the Meat Eater Outdoor Cookbook for $38. The North American Rescue
Outdoor Adventure First Aid Kit for $62. The Meat Eater Work Sharp Guided Field Sharpener for $35.
The First Light Flex Field Belt for $25. The Meat Eater Fire Breather Hot Sauce for $7.
And, of course, the Meat Eater Trivia Board Game, which has 32 reviews for an average of 4.9 stars.
It costs just $25.
Only 32 reviews?
Come on, folks.
In our Meat Eater store, that's a lot.
It is?
No.
You should do a stat on that. How many reviews
products have in there?
Here's one for you. 32 reviews.
4.9 stars.
MeatEater trivia. 4.9 sounds
exceptional. Are there other items that have
way more reviews?
I think the most in the store
is the Bear Grease hat.
It has, I think, over 100.
Good or bad? Good reviews. People like the Bear Grease hat. It has, I think, over 100. Good or bad?
Good reviews.
People like the Bear Grease hat.
What you missed is that...
I got a couple comments on this.
What you missed is that I think all orders over $150
get a free pair of GuideLite shorts.
Like Brody Henderson's wearing here today.
Is he wearing GuideLites today?
There you go.
But no, I'm in a weird place because First Light, for the first time ever, I think, used an image of me to promote Father's Day.
Oh.
My little father over here.
Yeah, you know, but it makes you kind of feel like old and dumpy in a way.
Not like me and Seth and Randall.
Yeah. Young and Randall. Yeah.
Young and dumpy.
So, I don't know.
I'm looking forward to it.
Get something for your old dumpy dad.
Oh, no, I'm looking forward to it as in, like, hopefully I'll receive something.
Okay.
What do you think they're going to give you?
I got a nice grill for my birthday, so they're probably going to go, oh, you got this grill?
It's kind of worth both of those.
Yeah.
Those celebrations.
But an outdoor cookbook would pair nicely with that grill.
Oh, but I'm fixing to do the weeknight steak marinade, actually,
with a Axis Top Round in the next couple of nights.
I'm going to cook it on my new grill,
and that's the recipe found in the outdoor cookbook.
Sounds delightful.
Again, that's 11 days until father's day head over to store.themeateater.com to buy your dad his gift
before it's too late now here's our infrequently asked question segment if you have a trivia
related question for our crew send it to trivia at themeateater.com with the subject line ifaq
j clement wants to know were there any errors in the board game?
One time my buddies and I found an error in Trivial Pursuit that was related to Julius Caesar and Augustus.
Could the same thing happen in Meat Eater Trivia?
Well, Jay, for the housekeeping portion of today's show, I'm going to address two mistakes in the Meat Eater Trivia board game.
Oof.
Two? That's too many.
The first one, and this was brought... Hold on, are you just addressing two, or are you addressing the only two? in the Meat Eater Trivia Board Game. Oof. Two? That's too many.
The first one, and this was brought... Hold on, are you just addressing two,
or are you addressing the only two?
The only two that I'm aware of.
It's been out in circulation now for, what, seven months?
So if there were more,
I think somebody would have caught them.
We have a lot of keen listeners and players.
If I was answering this question,
I would have just sort of jokingly brushed it aside
and said there aren't any errors relating to Julius Caesar and Augustus.
Well, the first one, and this was brought to my attention by about 100 listeners, is
a duplicate question.
There was a question I liked so much that I included it not once, not twice, but three
times in the board game.
That was question 428, 443, and 505.
The question was, what federal agency was created by combining the General Land Office and U.S. Grazing Service?
The BLM.
No, Spencer.
The BLM.
You shouldn't blame yourself for that.
There should be someone doing a little editing.
Well, we have a professional fact checker who did the proofing.
That's a way to get out of that is your mistake.
Yeah.
Well, I also saw the final product before it went into circulation.
So I'll take the blame.
We had a few mistakes.
But I trust that the answer was correct for all three instances.
Three different answers.
I don't know.
I don't know.
This is a real problem, Spencer.
As Max wrote down, the correct answer was the Bureau of Land Management.
I start with a plus one in this game, right?
There you go.
Now, that was a pretty innocent mistake, I think, as far as mistakes go.
The second error was question 719, which only about five listeners caught.
The card read, American rivers declared this the most endangered river in america in 2022
it starts in the rocky mountains color ends at the gulf of mexico now the correct answer was
colorado's in the baja that ends at the gulf of california not the gulf of mexico like the
question stated so that one was just a straight up wrong fact.
Just wrote that one wrong.
Fact checker didn't catch it.
I didn't catch that.
The fact checker didn't catch it.
So that's 719.
That one is flat out wrong.
Only about five listeners.
I think you asked that in an episode.
We had that in an episode.
I think it was correct then.
Now both of those mistakes have been fixed for the next run of board games. But if you own one of the OG editions of the game, you'll forever be blessed with having a flawed copy.
And in 30 years, those will be collectibles.
That's right.
Now, when I was a kid and I collected.
It's like a misprint baseball card.
When I collected sports cards, two of my favorite cards were error cards.
One of them had Paul Pierce on the front and on the back, it had the stats for Marcus Camby.
So that was, that was one of my favorite cards.
I haven't thought about Marcus Camby in a long time.
You just did.
And the other one was a Paul Pierce card that was printed about a half inch off of the margins.
Uh, so it's way wonky.
So what's up with Paul Pierce and poorly printed cards?
Something else happened?
No, it weren't.
They both Paul Pierce.
Oh no, I'm sorry. The, the, what was the second one? Maybe it wasn't. I thought there, you're weren't they both Paul Pierce? Oh, no, I'm sorry.
What was the second one?
Maybe it wasn't.
I thought you were saying they were both Paul Pierce,
and I just thought maybe OG burnt, as he's known.
The first one was Jamal Mashburn on front,
Marcus Cammie on the back.
The second one was Paul Pierce that was slightly misprinted.
So you got a flawed copy now of the board game,
and then like Randall said,
that's almost more valuable than having a clean copy.
Who are you picking in the finals, Spencer?
The NBA finals?
Correct.
My heart wants the Mavs, but my head says the Celtics.
I'm with you.
You're the same way?
Yeah.
Okay.
You don't like the Celtics either?
I just like the Mavs more.
Okay.
I like the Balkan Brothers.
Good on you, Yanni. Now, the Shelby Index for today's round is a four, so our winner
should get eight correct answers. With that, we're on to the game of trivia. Play the drop, Phil.
Look, I need to know what I stand to win. Everything.
How's that? You stand to win everything how's that just tend to win everything
game on suckers i also feel less bad about the errors in the board game yanni after you revealed
that one of the first cookbooks had a measuring error for what was it a brine that created something extra salty it wasn't
a brine it was um a rub i don't think we grandma lada oh that's i don't think we should pull all
of our skeletons out of the closet right now what else do we got question one the topic is wildlife
as always this will be multiple choice the shed, which is one of the largest aquariums in the world,
is located in this city. Is it Las Vegas, Miami, Chicago, or San Francisco?
The Shedd Aquarium, that's S-H-E-D-D, which is one of the largest aquariums in the world, is located in this city.
Is it Vegas, Miami, Chicago, or San Francisco?
We have a few confident players in the room.
Yanni, you appear to know this one.
I bet I know it.
Okay, Randall, it seemed like you knew this one.
Christine definitely does.
Christine definitely knew it.
Max has observed. Do you knew it. Max has observed.
Do you know it, Max?
No.
Doesn't look like Brody knows it either.
Making an educated guess based on my history of trivia.
Randall going back to his board.
No, I just, I was dissatisfied with the amount of red ink.
Is this ink on a dry erase?
Sure.
I'm just not happy with how it looks.
Okay.
I'm going to reinforce some of my characters.
New markers, huh?
The Shed Aquarium is located in this city.
Vegas, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco.
Is everybody ready?
Alyssa?
Go ahead and reveal your answers.
We have Seth saying Miami.
Giannis and Christine and Randall and Logan and Alyssa is Chicago.
Over half of you got that one right.
Shedd is the seventh biggest aquarium in the world and third biggest aquarium in the United States. It was founded by John G. Shedd nearly a century ago and sits on the shore of Lake Michigan.
It attracts over 2 million visitors each year, including my wife and I in 2017.
And it's home to over 32,000 animals, including some paddlefish I sent there in 2015.
Has anyone been to Shedd?
Yes. Yes. I grew there in 2015. Has anyone been to Shedd? Yes.
I grew up in that area.
If I got that wrong, I would have been very disappointed.
Randall, did you visit when you lived in Chicago?
I did.
Big zoo guy, big aquarium guy.
And Logan, was that like a field trip spot?
Yeah, I think we went there for some field trips.
I remember going there as a little kid and being really fascinated with just how big
everything was. And aquariums are so cool as a little kid and being like really fascinated with just how like big everything was.
And aquariums are so cool as a little kid.
And as an adult.
They're not cool anymore.
So you're still cool as an adult too.
But like particular as a kid.
Paddlefish that are in the aquarium?
I worked in a federal fish hatchery.
We would raise like a million paddlefish each year.
One year we had seven leucistic paddlefish born.
Some were totally blind.
Some were partially blind.
And I tried to reach out to aquariums and zoos
that were notable to send them some of those paddlefish.
Shed was one of those who responded.
It was Solomon David, who is a gar specialist.
You've maybe seen talk about gar before in the media.
He got back to me.
He took a few of those paddlefish,
and I believe a few of them still remain there today.
How do you ship a paddlefish or a fish in general yeah it's a good question you you would say
obviously in water say it's like a fingerling uh fish which is about the length of your finger
uh you'd put it in a uh like a very tough plastic bag like tougher than any garbage bag you have
you'd fill it with water then you pump that full of oxygen and then you use what's the device
that you use to castrate um a bowl something like that that has the rubber band yep you then uh
cinch it tight with one of those bags sometimes it's like a giant overfish gold bag bag and then
that goes in a styrofoam cooler with ice and and then that goes in a box. The box says live fish.
So when you see one of those, it usually genuinely has live fish,
and then it gets overnighted.
How do you measure the blindness of a fingerling paddlefish?
Some of them, their skin grew right over their eyes,
or they didn't have eyes at all.
They don't really need their eyes, though.
No, they don't.
Their eyes are quite useless.
Their rostrum does their seeing.
Filter feeders.
Ooh, the rostrum.
That'd be a good trivia question.
Question two.
Here it comes.
Two.
The topic is conservation.
This conservation group won a legal battle over trademark infringement against the World
Wrestling Federation in 2002.
Conservation is the topic.
This conservation group won a legal battle over trademark infringement
against the World Wrestling Federation in 2002.
Brody and Randall and Yanni look confident.
Brody, do you have this one
right?
Maybe.
I'm close. I can see
the logo right now, but I can't.
Yeah, I think
I can guess the animal that's on the logo.
Do you
want to tell folks and give them a hint? No.
I don't think we should be doing that.
Randall doesn't want to give anybody a hint.
Randall's not a hint lover.
Neither am I.
It's not part of the game.
This conservation group won a legal battle.
I didn't see that anywhere in the rules.
Over trademark infringement against the World Wrestling Federation in 2002.
Is there anything in the rules, Spencer, about hints?
No. No, I don't believe there are.
In fact, in the board game, we have
some house rules that
encourage some cheating.
So, if you want to add some more strategy
to the game, look at the instructions. You'll find the
house rules, and you'll learn more there.
Cheating
is encouraged.
Does everyone have an answer?
For what conservation group Won a legal battle
Over the World Wrestling
Federation
In 2002
I have to say this is one of my favorite questions I've ever written
I never thought there'd come a day when I'd get to
Involve wrestling
In meat eater trivia I didn't know that that was the reason they had to change favorite questions I've ever written. I never thought there'd come a day when I'd get to involve Rassel in Meat Eater Trivia.
I didn't know that that was
the reason they had to change to WWE
now. Oh, okay. There's a
little hint from Yanni. Is everybody ready?
There's a hint.
That was a hint?
That was a huge hint. Go ahead
and reveal your answers.
We have Seth saying World
Wildlife Foundation. Yann Seth saying World Wildlife Foundation.
Giannis says World Wildlife Fund.
Christine says WWF World Wildlife Federation.
Randall says World Wildlife Foundation.
Logan says World Wildlife Fund.
Alyssa, without an answer, Max,
says World Wildlife Federation. brody says world wildlife
fund the correct answer is world wildlife fund a few of you got that right we had some missteps
with foundation and federation now about this conservation group thing. Uh-huh.
You don't think they identify as a conservation group? I think they identify as one.
Whether they're an effective wildlife conservation group,
I think is up for debate.
It's maybe a little telling that their logo has what on it, Yanni?
Is it a panda?
A panda.
Big old panda.
The World Wildlife Fund was created in 1961 in Switzerland.
The World Wrestling Federation was originally the Worldwide Wrestling Federation, but dropped one of the W Federation in the 90s when they feared that various sexual abuse scandals
happening at the Wrestling WWF
would be confused with the Conservation WWF.
A final determination in 2002
sided with the World Wildlife Fund,
causing the World Wrestling Federation
to change their name to World Wrestling Entertainment.
As Yanni said, that's the WWE.
Question three.
The topic is hunting.
This next great question is via Eric MacArthur.
This genus of plants, which includes turnips and radishes,
is commonly used in whitetail food plots.
Your answer will be the genus of plants here's the question again this genus of plants which
includes turnips and radishes is commonly used in whitetail food plots you honest have you been
putting in some food plots on the on the property yet no no i'm doing wildlife openings, not food plots. Gotcha.
So I'm going to be trying to go natural.
Probably the only one in this room that was planted a food plot before, though.
Yeah, I guess I kind of have.
Oh, I used to be hardened.
Oh, okay.
You know the answer, then.
You should.
Get on that mic, Seth.
I should know it, and I used to plant a lot of
Food plots
What did you put in those food plots
We did everything from corn, beans
Turnips
A lot of clover
Come here deer
Not no come here deer
Well equipped to get this one right
Then Seth this genus of plants Which includes turnips and radishes Not, no, come here, dear. Well equipped to get this one right then, Seth,
this genus of plants, which includes turnips and radishes,
is commonly used in whitetail food plots.
Logan, do you know this one?
No, but I took a guess. Okay.
Yeah.
You were complimentary of the question for someone who doesn't know it.
I want to make something up.
I wrote down a grouping of plants. I don't know if it's a genus, and I don't know if these fall know it. I'm going to make something up. I wrote down a grouping of
plants. I don't know if it's a genius and I don't know
if these fall under it.
Randall has a shot.
Yanni is still yet
to put marker to whiteboard over here.
I was going to make something
up but I'll save the trouble.
Who's the trouble for? Yourself?
Yeah, and you.
For trying to read something I've come up with.
Does everyone have an answer for the genus of plants that includes turnips and radishes
and is commonly used in whitetail food plots?
What'd you put?
Go ahead and reveal your answers.
We have Seth saying brassicas.
He crossed out tubers.
Giannis says brassicas.
It's not funny. It's just...
Christine says root vegetables.
Randall says tubers.
You're right. Logan says
tubers. Alyssa and Max
without an answer. Brody
says brassicas.
The correct answer is
brassicas. We had Gianni, Brody,
and Seth.
Is tubers not correct.
Tubers would not be correct.
You know what was messing me up a little bit?
What was messing you up a little bit?
Whitetail Institute has tall-tined tubers.
Mmm.
Oh.
And that was messing me up.
I'll do some looking into it.
I don't think tubers, though, I don't think that's like a synonym for brassicas.
I don't have an argument to make, but I'd like you to look into it.
Other brassicas include cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, bok choy, Brussels sprouts, and kale.
In the whitetail world, brassicas are considered a cool season forage, making them especially popular among property managers in the north.
According to the National Deer Association, brassicas are a hardy plant that can handle most soil types
and climate conditions.
Here's question four.
The topic is fishing.
Moving right along today.
I will look up the tubers while you guys think
of the answers on this one.
Give it a good look.
Give it a good look.
Anglers often refer to sharks by this six-letter
nickname because of their penchant for taking a cut of game fish that are being reeled in.
This is question four.
The topic is fishing.
Seth is the first one to come up with an answer.
Anglers often refer to sharks by this six-letter nickname because of their penchant for taking a cut of
game fish that are being reeled in now we're going to google our tubers the same as brassicas
i think i got it
is this nickname singular or plural is it we're not going to give you that hint, Randall.
It's a six-letter nickname.
I can think of several guesses,
and depending on whether or not they're singular or plural,
I might go with one or the other.
Didn't Randall just say he didn't like hints?
That's not a hint.
That's a clarification.
Tubers are not the same as brassicas because tubers would also include potatoes, yams, ginger, sweet potatoes.
But turnips and radishes are also brassicas.
We're not going to give it to you, though, for tubers.
That is not the genus of plant.
I'll allow it.
I'll allow it. I'll allow it.
Here's question four again. Anglers
often refer to sharks by this
six-letter nickname
because of their penchant for taking a
cut of game fish that are
being reeled in. I love this question.
Okay, Brody. Appears to know
it. Yanni, you know this one.
I don't know it, but I have a good
guess. Okay, Seth, he knows it.
Max, do you have a shot at this one?
Brody just shook his head yes when I showed him my answer.
Oh, okay, Max.
I often tell my kids this.
I think if my answer is correct, I often tell my kids this.
Oh.
Hey, Randall's still working on it.
That would be two hints this game, to be honest. Uh-huh.
Does anyone else want to show Brody their whiteboard to see if Brody likes it
or not? He gave an
approval nod to Max.
Oh, Alyssa.
I was going to say, Alyssa, if you didn't get this right,
that would be... This is way more fun to have
Brody nod to Max than you saying
if my answer is right or wrong.
Is everybody ready?
Logan handed out another hint that is very Meat Eater employee specific.
What did you say?
Is everybody ready?
It's too late, Chris.
Go ahead and reveal your answers.
We have Seth saying tax man.
Yanni says tax man.
Christine says taxers Randall says tax man
Alyssa and Max
And Brody saying tax man
They got it
The correct answer is tax man
I was going to write savage down
I initially had bookie
Oh
All kinds of time to change his answer
It's said that the only difference between a shark and a tax collector
is that sharks have some professional courtesy.
For tips on fishing in shark-infested waters,
read our article on TheMeteor.com called
Dodging the Taxman, Keep Your Catch Clear of Sharks, Barracudas, and Pike.
Logan handed out a little hint to the room when he said
Alyssa should certainly get this one
right. Alyssa works in our finance department. Is that how you describe what you do? Okay,
correct answer was tax man. I'm sorry, Christine. We're not going to give it to you for taxers.
That's bullshit. I look it up. Question five.
The topic is cooking.
A sunrise burger and horseback riding steak both feature this ingredient on top of the meat.
Max, very confident.
And Randall, this may be a 100%.
How specific do you need to be?
Specific.
You need to be specific.
I don't know how to frame this one.
I always use Black Lab as an analogy.
I'm like, if you think the answer is Black Lab, you need to be specific.
If you think the answer is Black Lab, you say Black Lab for this one.
That's how specific you need to be.
And I don't know if that made things any clearer or not. A sunrise burger and horseback riding steak
both feature this ingredient on top of the meat.
This is question five.
We'll get a scoreboard update from Phil after this.
I'm very confused by your desired level of specificity here.
Me too.
Super specific.
Now Brody's just messing with Randall over there is everybody ready yeah and now I'm seeing go ahead and reveal your
answers we have Seth and the honest and the entire room says egg. They all got it right.
The correct answer is...
So we're saying like over easy egg?
It could have been a scrambled egg.
Well, if it could be any egg, then maybe Brody might be wrong.
I think we know it's not a hard-boiled egg on top of a burger.
Everybody got that one right.
Horseback riding steak has Brazilian and European origins.
Some say the name is because the y the yolks look like a horse's eyes,
while others say the egg resembles a saddle.
Danielle Pruitt said the Sunrise Burger, which features an egg, hash browns,
and garlic aioli, is one of her favorite burger combinations.
You can get that recipe on TheMeatEater.com in Danielle's article
called 12 Best Burger Topping Combinations.
Phil, give us a leaderboard update.
Max and Christine have two points apiece.
Nice.
Coming up next are Seth, Randall, and Alyssa,
who all have three.
Logan and Brody have four, and unless I'm mistaken,
Giannis Putellis is pitching a perfect game with five points.
He's never done it before.
Maybe today.
What was the index for this one?
A four. Wait, did he get Brassica right? Yeah, he did. He did the index for this one? A four.
Did he get Brassica right?
He did get that one right.
Old dumpy dad Yanni.
Dumpy dad.
Maybe that's what it is. I finally got enough age
so I'm going to become a contender in this game
again.

Welcome to the OnX club, y'all.
Here's question six.
The topic is gear, and this next great question is via Brett Baldwin.
The headquarters of this outdoor brand moved from Nebraska to Missouri after a 2017 acquisition.
Is this a repeat question?
It's not a repeat question.
I'd never do that to you, Logan, unless you bought the board game. Then I would do it to you multiple times. The headquarters of this outdoor brand moved from Nebraska to Missouri after a 2017 acquisition.
Seth, Yanni, Randall, Brody, Max all appear to know this one.
Alyssa, Logan, and Christine are thinking hard. the headquarters of this outdoor brand moved from nebraska to missouri
after a 2017 acquisition brody is closely watching max write down his answer
i've got a good story okay related to this but i can't tell it okay you could tell it afterwards
or not tell it at all i have to wait like another It's not going to be one of those things that
he's like, I can't tell it and then he tells it?
I will not absolutely tell it.
Yeah. And even though it's been
seven years, I just don't feel
right. Okay.
Interesting. Well, surely you'll tell
us when the mics are off, right, Yanni? Oh, yeah.
Okay. 100%. Yeah.
All of our listeners are going to be
jealous that the
10 of us in the room
gave Yanni's little antidote.
If you really want to hear the story, come work for me.
Is everybody ready?
Max doing a lot of writing and erasing
over here.
He wants this third point.
If my answer is wrong, I'm not telling the story.
Okay.
That's a threat.
I really want to hear the story, but I also want your answer to be wrong, so I'm conflicted.
Randall doesn't want to have a $1,000 conservation donation today.
I just thought of a backup story.
Christine, are you ready?
Yes.
Max, are you ready?
Yeah.
Go ahead and reveal your answers. First story. Christine, are you ready? Yes. Max, are you ready? Yeah.
Go ahead and reveal your answers.
We have Seth and Yanni saying Cabela's.
I spelled it wrong.
Christine without an answer.
Calbee's?
What is that?
Randall says Cabela's.
Logan says Mossy Oak.
I don't think you can. I said Cabela's, but I spelled it horribly wrong.
Alyssa and Max and Brody say Cabela's.
Cabela's. The correct answer is Cabela's.
Cabela's was founded by Dick Cabela in 1961 in Sydney, Nebraska. After Bass Pro bought the company in 2017, they immediately started moving its headquarters to Springfield, Missouri.
Cabela's had 2,000 employees in Sydney,
a town of just 6,000 people.
Bass Pro has attempted to lease its 15 buildings
of 500,000 square feet in Sydney
for just $1 a year,
but thus far, there have been no takers.
You gonna share your little antidote now, Yanni?
You had a backup story you said.
Yeah, both of them aren't fit for the microphone.
Okay, question seven.
The topic is fishing.
This is our listener question of the week,
which was won by Brandon Humphreys.
For sending this great question,
Brandon is going to get a board game signed by the crew.
If you want a chance to win our listener question of the week,
then send your question to trivia at themeadeater.com.
Alan Jackson sang about this river that flows through Atlanta Okay, Christine got this one.
This is Mehroun Yanni's perfect game.
Yeah.
Alan Jackson sang about this river that flows through Atlanta and forms the Georgia-Alabama border.
Alyssa knows it.
Seth, you have this one right.
I think, yeah.
Randall, do you have this one right?
I do.
I'm just hoping that Phil has the audio queued up
so we can have a little sing-along here.
He maybe does.
Oh!
Happy day.
Now, Yanni did come up with an answer.
Yanni, is there any chance your answer is right?
Oh, certainly.
It's an American river.
Okay.
Near this area.
Okay.
Do you think Alan Jackson sang about it?
I have no idea if this fella Alan Jackson sang about it.
I'm with you, man.
Alan Jackson sang about this river that flows through Atlanta
and forms the Georgia-Alabama border.
I couldn't spell Cabela's right, so come on.
Is this river in any other states?
I'm not going to give you any hints.
Oh, come on.
But I did tell you in the question that it forms the Georgia-Alabama border.
Yeah, I got that part.
You call yourself an Alan Jackson fan?
No, I don't.
He does, actually.
He's got posters all over his office.
I saw Alan Jackson on my bachelor party at the Forest City Music Festival in Tree City, Iowa.
I want to sing the song right now.
Well, you'll have a chance as soon as everyone is done here.
Is everybody ready?
No, wait, I got to scratch one out.
Okay, Brody going back to the whiteboard.
He has two answers down.
He's working on eliminating one of them.
Are there trout in this river?
Not giving you any hints, Yanni.
Is the river named Remember When?
Or Drive parentheses for Daddy Gene? Yes. You are in Alan Jackson. you any hints, Yanni? Is the river named Remember When? Or drive
parentheses for Daddy Gene?
You are an Alan Jackson
fan over there. Just country
music.
Some classics. Those are some classics.
There's some good
jukebox material here. Is everybody ready?
Let's go. Go ahead and
reveal your answers. We have Seth
and Yanni and Christine and Randall saying the Chattahoochee.
Logan says Mississippi.
Alyssa and Max say Chattahoochee.
Brody crossed out Chattahoochee and went with Chattooga.
The correct answer is the Chattahoochee.
Most of you got that one.
Five, six, seven, eight.
The Chattahoochee is not a very lyrical name.
The Chattahoochee is over 400 miles long and supports a diverse fishery for everything from striped bass to trout to catfish.
Alan Jackson famously sang about the Hooch's muddy waters in his 1993 single that won CMA's Song of the Year award.
The music video that features Jackson water skiing in a cowboy hat and blue jeans was actually filmed on the Chattahoochee.
Play the music, Phil.
It gets harder than I...
Oh my god.
Nice.
We should remake this.
Seth, it looks like your mustache.
Well, now I know what I'm getting for my next tattoo.
Oh, he dried out real quick.
What's your next tattoo?
Alan Jackson on water skis.
Go away.
Yanni, you look like you're a water skier.
Wow.
Do you think that's actually him water skiing?
In some parts, but then there's like at one point where I think it's...
Yeah, that's a stunt double there.
Yeah.
He's like doing a sick trick, and I don't think...
But Alan Jackson is slalom skiing, so that's impressive.
It is hard, man.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Is that Jon Tester?
That looks like him.
Cowboys jersey.
That's awful Chattahoochee of him.
Number 34.
What a life jacket he's wearing.
Is that Emmett Smith?
What a life jacket he's wearing.
No, Emmett was 24.
I think that might actually be him water skiing the whole time.
Question eight.
The topic is cooking.
What day of the week is the tomato sauce that Italian Americans refer to as gravy named after?
Your answer will be a day of the week.
Here's the question again.
What day of the week is the tomato sauce that Italian Americans refer to as gravy named after?
Excuse me.
Emmett Smith was 22.
That's right.
Could have Herschel Walker been 34?
Aikman, I bet.
No.
Aikman's eight.
He's got the, that's his beer brand.
Herschel Walker was 34.
Oh, that's cool.
That could have been, yeah.
Could have been a Herschel Walker jersey
Alan Jackson was wearing in the Chattahoochee video.
Didn't Herschel Walker go to school down there?
Did he go to Georgia?
Yeah.
He went to Georgia.
Okay.
That's where he's running for Senate.
We've solved the crime.
It was a Herschel Walker jersey.
Herschel Walker's ill-fated political career.
Question eight. What day of the week is the
tomato sauce that Italian
Americans refer to as gravy?
Named after Brody and Yanni
were very confident. How's the rest of the room
feel? Max?
One out of seven.
Don't look at
my answer, though.
It ends in Y.
Not an Italian.
Better change my answer.
Is everybody ready?
I spelled this one right, though.
Go ahead and reveal your answers.
We have...
Everybody says Sunday except Seth.
Seth says Friday.
The correct answer is gravy. The correct answer is sundae.
Sundae sauce or sundae gravy is a meat-rich red sauce that's often sauce often uses braised meat, while bolognese often uses ground meat.
Here's question nine.
We'll get a scoreboard update from Phil after this.
The topic is hunting.
This type of migration happens in late summer when waterfowl find a safe place to shed and grow back their primary feathers.
Of course, Max.
Come back, Giannis.
Crushes.
Last trivia game, I got one out of ten right.
So this game I'm just playing against myself really.
Did your fiancé learn that you didn't get Judas correct
in the game of trivia?
We didn't talk about that.
Okay, haven't talked about it.
This type of migration happens in late summer
when waterfowl find a safe place
to shed and grow back their primary feathers.
Max and Brody and Seth
appear to be confident.
Yanni has a dissatisfied look on his face.
Randall, do you know this one?
I don't.
I'm trying to think of a fancy word for late summer.
This is question nine.
Derivative of a Latin word.
Fill after this.
This type of migration happens in late summer
when waterfowl find a safe place to shed and grow back their primary feathers.
Randall, I believe we're waiting on you.
Don't wait on me. I don't know.
You give up.
I give up.
Go ahead and reveal your answers.
Yeah.
We have Seth saying molt.
Yanni says molting.
Christine without an answer.
Randall without an answer. Christine without an answer. Randall without an answer.
Logan without an answer.
Alyssa, Max, and Brody saying molting.
Let's just wrap it up.
The correct answer is molt or molting migration.
During the molt migration, waterfowl will gather in specific places that are resource rich.
This molting process takes about three to four weeks.
And during that time, some birds will go totally flightless.
The flocks will return to their summer range in late summer or early fall and stay there
until they fly north again for the winter.
For more on this subject, read our article on TheMeadEater.com called The Truth About
the Malt Migration.
And here's an answer review for our listeners at home.
One was Chicago.
Two, World Wildlife Fund.
Three, Brassicas.
Four, Taxman.
Five, Egg.
Six, Cabela's.
Seven, Chattahoochee.
Eight, Sunday.
Nine, Malt Migration.
Phil, give us a scoreboard update.
The only question is whether
he can hold on to this perfect game
because Giannis Patel is the winner
with 9 points.
Alyssa and Brody
have 7 in second place.
Alyssa!
Well done!
Alyssa, do you know your personal best before today?
It was not that.
Okay. Alyssa has set her personal best.
And we're waiting to see if Yanni can get the perfect game on question 10.
The topic is conservation.
And this last great question is via David McAuliffe.
The Bay of Fundy, which is part of this ocean, has the highest tidal range in the world.
The Bay of Fundy, which is part of this ocean, has the highest tidal range in the world.
Seth, do you know this one?
I think so.
I think I do.
Brody, do you know this one? I'm just going on just
what I think is right. Okay.
He's just going off of what he knows.
Randall, do you have this one right?
I know where it is.
I'm between... No, I don't get that.
Okay. I'm chewing on it.
The Bay of Fundy,
which is part of this ocean,
has the highest tidal range in the world.
Your answer better be an ocean, Yanni, or you're going to be wrong.
Yanni, how do you feel about your answer on question 10,
the question that will determine if you get a perfect game in double the conservation donation or not?
Pretty good.
Pretty good.
Pretty good. Okay good. Pretty good.
Like his odds, we may see, I think,
our third perfect game of the year.
Mm.
Is everybody ready?
Sure.
We learned on a previous game, Yanni,
perfect games happen about 6% of the time on media trivia.
Yeah, I was here for that one,
and I think I got 9 out of 10 on that game.
See if you can fix that game. Because I missed what
FE stands for on the periodic table.
Go ahead and reveal
your answer.
We have Seth
saying Atlantic. Yanni
says Atlantic. Christine
Pacific. Randall
Atlantic. Logan Pacific.
Alyssa Pacific.
Max Pacific.
Brody, Arctic.
The correct answer is Atlantic.
Yanni got it right.
He has the perfect game with ten correct answers.
I was rooting for you, Yanni.
And against a very strong set of competitors.
All of you. And will not be lost on history.
That's right.
The average tidal range worldwide is three feet.
The tidal range at the Bay of Fundy is 52 feet.
This extreme rise and fall is because of the bay's V shape that funnels water in and out of the estuary.
It's located in the Gulf of Maine between New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Maine,
and is home to the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale.
Yanni, with 10 correct answers, you get to choose with a $1,000 donation from me, Dieter Goetz.
I think it's only appropriate it goes to the World Wildlife Fund.
Seriously, what's it going to be?
I don't know, because if you give it to them, it might go to the opposition of CWRM,
who I think, I know, I'm not beating a dead horse,
but I've given them all my winnings as of late.
But I just read that the opposition down there,
who's trying to get an anti-lion bobcat, I hate to even say it,
but lynx, which you can't hunt anyways, in the lower 48.
They're getting close to the number of...
Well, I don't know if they're getting close to the number of signatures needed, but they
have hired two signature collecting firms.
So it means the work that we've been doing up to this point has been working because
they're not getting enough, but they're willing to spend a bunch of money to get the amount of signatures. So if you want to
help the cause, which you should, because it's going to affect all hunters across the country,
go support Colorado Islands for Responsible Wildlife Management. So it's C-R-W-M. And I
believe it's savethehuntcolorado.com. And if you're living on the front range of Colorado,
you're the ones that are really riding on your shoulders
because you need to talk to everybody
and tell them not to sign the petition
to get this thing on a ballot.
Anything you want to add to that, Brody?
Yeah, you're running into these people
like on the Boulder Mall when you're walking around,
Whole Foods.
There's some people that sign anything too. Well, I feel like most people listening aren when you're walking around, Whole Foods. There's some people that will just sign anything too.
Well, I feel like most people listening aren't going to sign anyways,
but I feel like your job if you're listening is you need to go talk to your
non-hunting friends and tell them if they run across this signature collecting,
do not sign.
And tell them to tell their friends.
Because the easiest way to win this is for it to not make it to the ballot.
Yep.
So, Yanni, who are we sending the money to?
Coloradans for Responsible Wildlife Management.
$1,000 via Yanni and Meade Dieter going their way.
Yanni with his first ever perfect game.
Thanks, Spencer.
And Alyssa Smith in second place with seven correct answers.
Well done, Alyssa.
No, she might have bumped up to eight.
Did she get it landed?
I think she had Pacific on that last one.
