Number 42 from the University of Michigan basketball team, Will Cheddar, and two members of the University of Michigan fishing team, Connor Prokop and Brady Bush.

And today we are coming to you live from the tailgate of the Michigan Wolverines versus Texas Longhorns football game in Ann Arbor. We are here on the Meat Eater Tailgate Tour, which is traveling across the country this fall to some of the biggest college football games of the season. Will Connor Brady, welcome to the show. Thank you. Appreciate you having us. Now, as part of this tour, we're doing some hunting and fishing in each location.

You can see this. I think it's going to be in December or January. You can see the video we're making. Yesterday, me, Randall, Connor, and Brody went bass fishing. Randall, try to describe that whole morning. Just one word. Just give me one word right now. Oh, one word?

I'm just going to go with fantastic. Fantastic. And, like, that doesn't even do it justice. Fabulous? It was maybe, like, the most insane three hours of fishing. I was trying to rack my brain yesterday. I actually, before you phrased the question that way, I was going to say a banner day. A banner day.

It was a day to be remembered. I was trying to do a little math. We were there for about three hours, and if we caught a fish every three minutes, which may seem like it might have been like every two minutes, but let's say it was three minutes. That means we caught 240 bass that morning. Does that seem right? Does that feel like a 240 bass day?

I was thinking more. I think a lot more. I think more. Yeah. Connor, Brady, have you guys ever had a morning like that seem right? Does that feel like a 240 bass day? I was thinking more. Yeah. We were in Ann Arbor. We're like an hour away from some of the finest walleye and smallmouth fishing in the world, Lake St. Clair, the Detroit River, Lake Erie. And we could have gone there and we could have had a different kind of banner day. But we're like, no, we're going to do something much dumber than that. We went to OnX to look for hidden bodies of water in town, and what we found was a golf course, and we got permission to fish there.

And they're like, yeah, there's some bass in there. You guys are welcome to go out there. And there were a ton of bass in there. And I'm glad we went there because I was told by one of our fellow anglers that had we gone to the Huron River based on my technique, I wouldn't have caught anything. I wonder who that would have been. Unexpectedly, I think I caught the biggest fish.

a big bass. There was some big bass to be caught. Most everything was like 10 to 12 inches. But it was really insane. You guys must think me and Randall are pretty good fishermen after yesterday. Very good. Give us an honest review. Connor, go first.

What did you think of what was happening out there? I don't know. Randall, who said that the fishing on the Huron was too technical for you? I believe it was Connor. It was shortly after he told me that I was fishing my top water plug incorrectly. And then that was, I think that was before Brady had to retie my mess of a braided line tangles.

So somewhere in there I remember hearing that I wouldn't have caught anything. We had the 20 year old helping the 40 year old. 37. with his knots and fishing technique. Brady, you must think that we're really good anglers. Honestly, I thought you guys were going to be a lot worse.

Oh, you did? Okay, well that doesn't make me feel any better. I was actually impressed. Why'd you think that? I don't know. I just thought that. Okay. And someone had to hit the weight room instead of fishing. Why did you think that? I don't know. I just thought that. Okay. A couple guys from Montana. I asked Connor and Brady yesterday because we were fishing at like 7 a.m. on a Friday, and I was like, are you guys skipping class? And they go, it'll be fine, which was not a no. Definitely not a no. It was like a yes or no question. That wasn't what we got. Now, you guys are on the University of Michigan fishing team. What does that even mean?

Basically, it's a club, so we're not sponsored by the university. But it's a club of anglers, and we all get together, fish sometimes, and just talk fishing. Do you guys do tournaments? We do a few tournaments throughout the year. Not a lot. We'd like to get into more, but the university doesn't do a few tournaments throughout the year. Not a lot. We'd like to get into more, but the university doesn't sponsor us, so it's hard to get a boat.

I heard multiple people ask you yesterday if you guys were on scholarship. I wish. That would be nice. That's not the case. That would be very nice. When you guys are doing tournaments, is that against the other members in the club or against other schools who have clubs? Other schools.

We do other friendly tournaments within the club itself. Just go to a little water park and fish. What is University of Michigan's reputation among all the fishing teams? Among the fishing teams? Are you guys competitive? I would like to think so, but it's tough because a lot of these other schools

get pretty good funding, I would say. But I think we're pretty competitive when we do fish tournaments brady and i got after it yeah they they wanted to finish the tournament recently yeah we're like fifth place after the first day oh and this was just like uh anyone could enter it was like a collegian tournament this was our state the state college championship hell yeah so if there are any you know well-heeled donors and boosters out there that please like to help out a couple Bass Crazy young men. Toss us some dough. Do that. They were wearing

their jerseys yesterday that had their sponsors on them. You get nice placement on there. Now also joining us is Will Cheddar and he would have been there yesterday but he had basketball practice and Will even invited us to come to practice yesterday. Will, how tall are you?

I'm about 6'9". About 6'9". Yeah. Does that make it... About 6'8", with some change. Okay, does that make it harder or easier to be an outdoorsman? I mean, it really depends what you're fishing for,

if I'm gonna be completely honest. You know, if you're trying to... When's it good to be 6'8"? Sight fishing. Yeah, sight fishing. You can go out to Pyramid Lake, You're trying to. When's it good to be 6'8"? Sight fishing. Yeah, sight fishing. You can go out to Pyramid Lake. It wouldn't be the latter.

But also, it's like a disadvantage, you know, because if you're fishing like a tiny little stream with some clear water, you know, they can see your shadow. They can see you. You know, they're scattering all over the place. So, you know, sometimes you got to get a little gritty. You know, you got to get down on your hands and knees. You know, you got to get ready. You got to, you know to get down on your hands and knees. You've got to get ready. You've got to sneak up on them.

Will is a junior on the basketball team, and I was looking at his high school stats, averaged 33.4 points per game. Insanity. Yeah. That was a great time just in my life. That was great. I've got some trivia here for Randall.

Will was a four-star recruit in high school. There was only one Minnesotan ranked higher than him in the 2021 class. That player went to Gonzaga. Do you know who it was, Randall? In the 2021 class? 2021 high school class. There was one player ranked higher than him. Did it be Chet?

It was Chet Holmgren. Did you ever play against Chet? Yeah, I did. I played against him. This is actually a really good story. Okay. Chet was supposed to play this team from Tennessee, Mike Miller's son, and they got snowed out.

And so we got a call from – So was that team in Mitchell, South Dakota, or where were they at? No, they were out of somewhere in Tennessee. It was some prep school. Yeah. And we got called up. Our AD got a call from the mini-haha, who Chet played for. Their AD

was like, would you guys have any interest in playing on ESPN today? And that morning we got the call and that night we were playing Chet on ESPN. Amazing. Yeah. And we only lost by 19. Okay. How many did you have?

I had like 20. Nice. Yeah. Not a bad night. Efficient, though, I'm sure. Huh? You were efficient, I'm sure. Oh, yeah.

That might have been, you know, a little bit out of the... You can just lie. You can just lie. Very efficient. No one's going to check. Did it as a shot. Yep. Now, last summer, Will worked on a bison ranch in Montana.

And that was actually from Matt Scoglin from North Bridger Bison. We've done a lot of stuff with Matt. You can go to YouTube and watch our Clovis Point bison butchering video. We did the bull boat race with one of his bison hides. What was it like working on a bison ranch in Montana in the summer? Yeah, I mean, I don't have enough good things to say about Matt. I know

you guys probably feel the same way. He's just a great guy. You know, being able to spend time, you know, out in Bozeman area, zero complaints whatsoever. Great fishing, great views, great people. So it's helped me so much. And my academics, being able to spend time out there, get to know people.

Are you going back this summer? Dude, I go back whenever I can, to be completely honest with you. I went back once this spring, got to fish a ton, and then got to go back for an event that Matt had on his ranch this year. Nice. So I got to go back twice, which I'm super fortunate for. So, yeah, it was great.

Awesome. We're about to play some trivia here among all this chaos. This is going to be maybe a little sloppier than normal, but it's going to be fun. There's a lot going on here. And when we play trivia, Randall always wins at trivia, and the damn guy caught the biggest bass yesterday, and I'm just, like, tired of it.

And so I told Randall that I'm going to give our players here, our guests, an advantage for this week's game, and he's been stressing about it for the last ten days. What do you think is going to happen, Randall? I have no idea. I have no idea. I have no idea. I've been told that I will be at a distinct disadvantage in this. He's worried about it.

I was sleepless last night. I was tossing and turning in my bed, wondering what these questions would look like. Well, here it is. Now, Randall is a doctor, in case you guys didn't know. And that gives an upper hand on these college kids who aren't done book learning yet. So to even out today's game, all of their questions will be multiple choice, while all of Randall's questions are not. So when I ask the question,

we'll give Randall like a minute to answer. He'll come up with his answer. And then I will give you other three, the multiple choice options for that question. James Hetfield owned land north of San Francisco that he attempted to develop in 2011. Locals pushed back against Hetfield, who wound up in a long legal battle over the property. Then, in a stunning pivot, he instead donated the land to the Marin Egg Land Trust.

They are a nonprofit who protects farms and ranches from being developed, which is exactly what Hetfield was originally going to do. And Metallica's song, Enter Sandman, that you just heard, was named the 23rd greatest jock jam of all time by Billboard. It was famously the entrance song for Mariano Rivera and is always played at Virginia Tech football games. It is Marin. Oh, it's Marin.

Our three Michigan students got that one right. In many states, state reptiles are lobbied for on behalf of school children, including three of the four states that chose the painted turtle. They considered doing a box turtle about a decade ago, but decided its practice of hiding
