Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to Meat Eater Trivia, the only game show where conservation always wins. I am not your host Spencer Newhart, but rather your guest host, Phil the Engineer, full legal name. Today we're joined by Spencer, Brody, Cal, Randall, Nate, Max, Reva, and Cory. Hey, if you've never heard of Phil's trivia on Meat Eater Radio Live, you're in for a rude awakening, bucko, because normally this is a 10-round quiz show
Starting point is 00:00:32 with questions from Meat Eater's four verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking. Today, however, this is a 10-round quiz show with questions from the world of cinema. That's right, when the mice are away, the cheese will play. And there is a prize! MeatEater will donate $500 to the conservation organization of the winners choosing. Now you may be asking yourself, why is Phil hosting when Spencer, Brody, Randall, and Giannis are
Starting point is 00:00:58 all here as well? Well, it's kind of a crazy story because last week I was having lunch with Spencer when the movie 127 hours came up Spencer Do you mind if I tell the story go for it? Okay? Well yeah, you guys know Yeah, Ralston. You know James Franco James Franco did Danny Boyle for one this game based on a true story Big boulder fell got his arm pinned under under the boulder. I was talking to Spencer I was saying hey like man that'd be tough to do. I don't know, I think I might just die. I don't know if I could cut my own arm off. And Spencer piped in and he said he wouldn't have
Starting point is 00:01:30 to cut his arm off if he were in that situation. And I said, you know, okay, I'll take the bait. What do you mean? And he told me he would just simply ask the rock to move. And after four seconds of awkward laughter, I realized he wasn't joking. And I said, Spencer, rocks are inanimate, they can't move of their own volition. They're lifeless, they don't have ears or a central nervous system
Starting point is 00:01:50 required to respond to, you know, this sort of external stimuli. And Spencer just looked me in the eye and he said, don't act like you know them. He said, you fools will never understand them. I'll show you. I'll show all of you. And then he ran out of the office. It was nuts. I called Shelby and she told me that he packed a bag and said he was taking the next flight to Salt Lake City. Well, anyway, we put out a message to
Starting point is 00:02:09 people in Utah who might be able to head down to Canyonlands and look for a guy. Well, we told them just to follow the scent of a burning Casey Musgraves branded candle. Be sure to bring a bone saw. But lo and behold, they found Spencer both arms intact, which makes me believe. I think you made a new friend down there Spencer congratulations We're all happy you made it back safe and sound but amongst all that hubba we were scrambling to put a show together You know Brody and Randall were busy writing books Yannis was zip-tied to a treadmill training for his next 500k or some shit so norm so naturally the responsibility fell to me I'm sorry
Starting point is 00:02:43 Awesome this week's IFAQ comes back time happen It's not it's not that it's the week before Christmas break And we have to bank a bunch of podcasts, and I just got my wisdom teeth out So I didn't have a lot of time to write oh, yes, I asked not film. Yeah, that's not how it happens Is this after the wisdom teeth a win was it Phil? Yeah, it must have been after yes Opioids then explain how was that for you? I? Was it was pretty fine. Yeah, it must have been after the win. It was after the win. The opioids then explain... How was that for you? It was pretty fine. How many did you get out?
Starting point is 00:03:10 This is a weird story. Three of them, they started digging for the fourth and realized I didn't have a fourth. And they were looking at a different patient's x-ray. I'm done at that dentist. Drop the dentist's name. I was awake. Isn't that noise. Don't draw him out. I was awake. Isn't that noise when they yank him out awesome? Did you hear it?
Starting point is 00:03:29 I said this to my wife. I was like, can I tell you about it? And she's like, no. But if she would have let me, I would have said it was really satisfying. Oh God, the noise it makes is you're like, cause you can't feel it. You weren't knocked out?
Starting point is 00:03:39 I was not knocked out. Did you keep the teeth? No, and I forgot to ask that. I went into it prepared to ask that question. I forgot to, so I don't have keep the teeth no, and I forgot to ask that I went into it prepared to ask that question I forgot to so I don't have my wisdom teeth. I have mine in a bag with all my elk ivories How'd you find out they were going off the other patients the doctor came in and admitted it later. What a guy We're done going to that dentist now, so I'm about to slack the Bozeman channel and say hey Does anyone have recommendations that aren't this place?
Starting point is 00:04:06 I have one for you. Okay. Hopefully it's not the same one. Yeah, I need a dentist, too I got about ten years, but I have fantastic teeth genes We also had a dentist win trivia one day, and I don't remember who that was Yeah, the guy was killed like ten mountain goats. Oh, I thought you're gonna say patients Phil what else you got over there today's ifaq comes from Tyler Rosser Tyler writes We demand Phil playing get video games on the company dime. There are threes of us. Wow. Thanks Tyler Is this a question? No, is it infrequent? Yeah Wow, thanks Tyler. Is this a question? No, is it infrequent? Yeah
Starting point is 00:04:50 Here's a story after I put out a tongue-in-cheek call to action on meat-eater radio to write in and demand a meat eater Video game stream not one not two not three Tyler, but like ten of you wrote it Wow ten times I know I just want to extend my thanks and tell you not to give up the fight So I'm here today to make a second tongue in cheek call to action. You guys know that certain type of asshole on Twitter or wherever who will challenge someone to a bad faith debate by claiming that they'll donate money to some charity, you know, if they accept the debate. Well, hey, meat eater C-Sweets suits, listen up. I would love to do a 24 hour charity stream to raise money for the meat eater land access initiative I played the game Red Dead Redemption for 24 hours straight with fun benchmark goals and special guests. Oh
Starting point is 00:05:32 What's the matter? You scared? I thought you guys cared about public land around here Red Dead Redemption has some hunting in it Digital animals we had a trivia question about it before there's even a cutaway scene where you catch some poachers and you get to decide what to do with them. What did you do with them? I killed them. Jesus. Dead. No second chances. Phil, that's a good idea. Thank you. Thank you. Well, great. That was fantastic. Listen up. All you listeners have to do is write in to meateater at the meateater.com and ask for it, then get three friends to ask for it, and then they each get three friends to ask for it. And then I would think in one or two years tops the name of this company is now Game Beater and Steve's
Starting point is 00:06:16 worst nightmares come to fruition. I'm counting on you, the listeners. It'll be a blast. We'll hunt virtual mountain lions, catch virtual virtual channel cats and live out our cowboy fantasies as Industrialization in the Western expansion slowly eat away at the last vestiges of our withering way of life all for a good cause How do you raise money in a 24-hour stream well you kind of create like benchmark goals like so after a thousand bucks all like well I will do something crazy like on the stream like you know I'll take a shot of snake tequila or we'll make Steve play or I'll put on or you know I'll put on a costume or something you know it's like what's like when people raise money. I'm running a 5k
Starting point is 00:06:53 Yeah, I don't know how that works. It's like a fun run Yeah, well it doesn't I mean there's no real logic behind it. Yeah, okay, just an excuse. That's great. Yeah anyway That's a good idea. There's no housekeeping today. So we like you gave away way too much of our internal process on how things get approved Then you get three France send a lot of challenges to authority Well, here's the thing the Adrian index for this game is a nine Wow So our winner should get nine correct answers born. How are you sure it should be? Yeah, it goes backwards. I don't think so. Born Hound. Are you sure it should be Born Hound? Hell yeah, it goes backwards. I don't think so, I've got faith in you.
Starting point is 00:07:28 With that, we're on to our game of trivia. Play the drop, me. Ha ha ha. Ha ha ha. Power resides where man believe it resides. That's real good. You're doing great, Phil. So good.
Starting point is 00:07:41 It's a trick, A shadow on the wall. You're in the great game now and the great game is terrifying. I think Randall and Nate are the two to beat today. Yeah, I would agree. Nathaniel according to his board. Yeah, I've changed it up a little new Feng Shui. Very pop culture of you. All right. Our first three question round is called Common Denominator. I'm going to list three movies and I need you to write down the actor or actress that
Starting point is 00:08:22 appeared in all three. Hopefully it'll make you go like that The first films in this first batch are of that movie that was a good one Angels in the outfield Tropic Thunder and Dazed and confused Which actor appeared in all three of these films? And I'm not trying to fake you out with like oh someone had a cameo or like it was on set that day
Starting point is 00:08:51 And it's also not necessarily the lead actor trying to you know Somewhere in the middle hmm Randall do you have this one? I have an idea Brody's got an answer Angels on the outfield is stumped me. That's a good one Mm-hmm Again the films are angels in the outfield Tropic thunder and dazed and confused. I thought it was gonna be like the first cover photo and I was like, oh I know that guy
Starting point is 00:09:23 Yeah, perfect Does everyone have an answer? I thought it was gonna be like the first cover photo and I was like, oh, I know that guy. Yeah Perfect Does everyone have an answer? Oh Okay. Okay. Let's talk it out. Let's talk it out. Oh, you got this count. I'm ready to go You have this one, right? I have no clue He's ready to go just but I could name an actor that was in two out of the three of these Nate do you have any you see any of these movies have any favorites? Tropic Thunder is probably my favorite movie, but I haven't seen
Starting point is 00:10:03 You haven't seen dazed and confused nope oh They're they're big gaps in my it probably came out like 25 years before you were born though Yeah, so did cool hand Luke like came out our 60 years ago still you ever seen it no Oh my god great one Great one if you if have you seen butch Cassidy in the Sundance kid No, if you keep asking these questions You're gonna be real disappointed. It's gonna be no no No, I'm gonna give you a movie list Spencer All right, how we feeling now real good real good all right
Starting point is 00:10:38 Let's go ahead and see those answers. I'm gonna put your boards at the at your respective cameras We have Spencer saying Matthew McConaughey Your boards at the at your respective cameras, we have Spencer saying Matthew McConaughey Revo with no answer Cal saying Matthew McConaughey Randall saying Matthew McConaughey Cory saying Matthew McConaughey Nate saying Jack Black Jack Black Max saying Will Ferrell and Brody saying Ben Stiller. The correct answer is Matthew McConaughey Left side of the room did very well. We didn't get a Robert Downey Jr.
Starting point is 00:11:10 I made the mistake reading that guy's book. God it was bad. I read it Green light. Yeah, terrible. You read the whole thing? I mean, it's like 250 pages. I mean and half of it. It just says green light Texas's own son Matthew McConaughey recently went viral after he shared his go-to tuna salad recipe on the podcast two bears one cave Where he dubbed himself the tuna fish salad master maker going beyond the usual suspects like mayo pickle juice vinegar his recipe also includes Going beyond the usual suspects like mayo, pickle juice, vinegar. His recipe also includes wasabi paste, Italian dressing, red onion, little mini dill gherkins, crispy jalapeno chips, apples, corn, and the kicker for me is frozen peas, specifically frozen.
Starting point is 00:11:55 How do you guys feel about that dip? Oh man, sounds fantastic. He also said it needs to sit for 24 hours. Oh, I noticed that part. So there you go, so the peas would not stay frozen. I would add little jalapeno chips at the end so they don't So these aren't like potato chips. They're sort of like crispy fried onions, but in jalapeno Yep, I'm in anyway the next batch of films American Hustle, X-Men First Class, and Silver Linings Playbook. Again, the films are American Hustle, X-Men First Class, and Silver Linings Playbook. All fairly recent
Starting point is 00:12:42 films. We saw American Hustle in the theaters with my in-laws and we walked out, my father-in-law said, I hated that. I agree with your father-in-law. Well, he said, I hate mysteries. And we said there weren't any mysteries. Those were just plot twists. But he was just frustrated by the experience I think it was over Christmas break a few years ago as soon as there's something that he can't track or follow yeah he's that it frustrates makes him upset yeah okay hmm what the hell's this guy's name I'm thinking of the main guy yeah I've got it I've got it. I do people can you repeat the question Phil? Yeah
Starting point is 00:13:25 Yeah, so an one actor appeared in all three of these movies American Hustle X-Men first class and silver linings playbook the hell's that guy's name now Maybe this is a hint, but if it was I think I know where you're going Spencer Yeah I think I know where you're going Spencer There was some purposeful kind of no misdirection going on around here Okay
Starting point is 00:14:02 No Just going with it yeah x-men first class What do you got there? I've seen zero of these movies neither of I know they're too recent for Brody I've seen two out of the three okay. Oh Oh the three okay oh oh and that's up I know that person I just can't I don't know the name of the person hmm draw them spelling doesn't count just draw them Randall and I were at the University of Michigan versus Texas Longhorns football game
Starting point is 00:14:48 and Matthew McConaughey was on the field as he normally was. And we were a stadium away, like a quarter mile away, and you could tell that's Matthew McConaughey right there. He carries himself and dresses like no one else in that 100,000 people person stadium.
Starting point is 00:15:04 Oh, I thought there was going to be like a shining beam on them the whole time You seem like an X-man guy. Where does the X-men first-class rank in the the millions of different? You know what? I'm not an X-man guy at all, Bernie. No, no, I'm just interesting. McConaughey was there at in Michigan He was there an enemy territory. What does the X stand for? Hmm? Xavier Xavier School for gifted anymore brain busters I'm ready. I'm ready. Yeah. Yeah, how are we doing around here? We're good. All right, go ahead and show me your answers We have Spencer saying Jennifer Lawrence, crossed out Bradley Cooper.
Starting point is 00:15:48 Reva wrote down Jennifer Lawrence. Cal says Jennifer Lawrence. Randall says Bradley Cooper. Cory says Jennifer Lawrence. Nate says Ryan Reynolds. Max says Daniel Spade. Definitely an actor, and Brody says Jennifer Lawrence. The correct answer is indeed Jennifer Lawrence. Yes, the Bradley Cooper was in two of those movies with Jennifer Lawrence, but he was not an X-Men
Starting point is 00:16:20 first class. The question I was going to ask is if it was a woman, would you say actress or would you just say? Actor and I'm glad Reva talked me out of asking. Yeah She couldn't have won best actor for any of those performances by the standards of the Academy actor That that Is that a football movie? No silver linings playbooks like for what she's talking about Microwave that was fantastic. Thank God for me. I think was the one everyone's got a great as a big Top of her archery skills that she put on display in the Hunger Games franchise
Starting point is 00:16:56 Lawrence also skinned and gutted a real squirrel for her breakout performance in the 2010 film winter's bone Quote I should say it wasn't real for PETA, but screw PETA, she quipped in a 2012 interview with Rolling Stone, and surprise, surprise, PETA responded, quote, as Henry David Thoreau said, the squirrel you kill in jest dies in earnest. When people kill animals, it is the animals who are screwed, not PETA, and one day I hope
Starting point is 00:17:20 she will try to make up for any pain she might cause any animal who did nothing but try to eke out a humble existence in nature Wow, I Don't think that would talk me out of gutting a squirrel. I don't think it would know I don't think Didn't for her, you know a lot of people lump like Hunger Games in with like Twilight But I don't think they're even close to this Enjoy Hunger Games. Good franchise.
Starting point is 00:17:45 All right, Woody Harrelson's in Hunger... That guy's awesome. Last group of films. Here we go. Hopefully it's easy. First movie is Road to Perdition. Well, I've never heard of that one. The Color of Money?
Starting point is 00:18:00 No. And Pixar's Cars. Cars. money and Pixar's cars cars road to Perdition the color of money and cars that was this one for you to make it was it was a lot more work than I was expecting so it just made me respect you and all the other guest hosts more Thank you. I know I've talked about the road to perdition on
Starting point is 00:18:33 Trivia before and if I remember correctly all of my references for the actors in that film were wrong I believe you corrected all of my I Think I remember this conversation you're talking about there's just no way I'll remember his name I was with I was at Janice last weekend and he's got an upcoming trivia he's hosting the game or whatever he was writing down trivia questions the whole weekend oh that's a good trivia question so hopefully I'm on that episode and there you go That's the way to do it well now that we know that you will be
Starting point is 00:19:15 Max is right This guy's that's the way to write an episode a lot of people ask me how long it takes to write an episode But I don't have a good answer because a lot of times I just think of something and I put in my phone right down And then it winds up in a script later on All right one more time the movies are road to perdition the color of money and cars One actor or actress was in all three of these Have you seen all of these Phil? I have yeah rank them I
Starting point is 00:19:47 I have not seen road to perdition in a long time, but at the time it That I did see it. I loved it So I'd say that's one color money to cars three probably the order. I just put them in maybe that was subconscious I don't know star in him. I like the other hit man Maybe that was subconscious. I don't know star in him. I like the other hit man The the villain hit man and wrote a fish. You gotta stop giving away details about the movie Like you might jar someone's memory Well, you want to know what I think color money
Starting point is 00:20:21 There are people yeah like yeah I was gonna put lightning McQueen Larry the cable Sorry Phil I just messed with this wire that's fine you're ready. Yeah. Oh, yeah, how we doing we good All right go ahead and show me your answers We have Spencer saying Owen Wilson Riva saying mater Cal saying Paul Newman, Randall saying Paul Newman, Corey saying Tom Hanks, Nate saying Owen Wilson, Max saying 0 for 3, yep he's right, and Brody saying Paul Newman The correct answer is indeed Paul Newman
Starting point is 00:21:08 You don't know Dressing yes, go to the grocery store. Oh that Newman Yeah, I don't like his ranch. So that explains it. Is that actually him? Yes, it is. Yeah Oh, I thought that was just a coincidence. He said that that was that round when he was still alive I ruin I'm ruining Phil script here In contrast with Jennifer Lawrence Paul Newman actually had an obituary published by PETA following his death in 2008 titled Paul Newman remembered as Friend to animals dude was philanthropic Newman's own brand which produced several vegan products and directed money towards animal protection organizations.
Starting point is 00:21:45 Mmm. All right. I'm not eating that anymore. Our next three-round, three-question round is called Smiloo Nose or Skirting the Copyright. Hold on, let me explain. For this round, I'm going to play you the chorus of three iconic John Williams-penned movie themes, and you need to tell me the movie or franchise that the theme Is from oh, that sounds kind of too easy right here to play it backwards
Starting point is 00:22:13 Great question Randall I am going to be playing these theme songs backwards Let's see your algorithm find me now G men Back masking all right Let's see your algorithm find me now G men Masking Alright, oh, this is great the first thing you need to tell me the movie Or franchise I will accept franchise that this at my funeral. Backmasking is the devil's music, Phil. All right, let's play that one more time, shall we? It doesn't sound too bad. ["Devil's Music"]
Starting point is 00:23:17 ["Devil's Music"] Phil, if you had to guess, is this gonna get copyright dinged. I don't think so Yeah, they're there this is a brilliant segment This is clever They caught on to a lot of those putt those those uploads people do where they just like reverse the image and pitch down the audio A half step or whatever, but I think we're fine. You kinda came up with this idea. Yeah. Yeah. Very good.
Starting point is 00:23:49 How we feeling, Rume? Good. Great. All right, go ahead. It's like 100%. Reveal your answers. No! We have Spencer saying Jurassic Park, Reva saying Jurassic Park,
Starting point is 00:23:57 Cal saying Jurassic Park, Randall saying Jurassic Park, Cory saying Jurassic Park, Nate saying Jurassic Park, Mac saying Star Wars, and Brody saying Jurassic Park. The correct answer is Jurassic Park Nate saying Jurassic Park Max saying Star Wars and Brody saying Jurassic Park the correct answer is Jurassic Park Might as well leave that on the board though for the next question Spencer jinxed. Yeah, you know I said is a hundred percenter No, Phil is this actual is this the actual poster? Did you take a photo of the VHS tape in my office?
Starting point is 00:24:21 Oh, that's the actual poster you guys want to keep talking about that for about five seconds while I get everyone's scores 65 million years last time every everyone in the room got a answer right and I didn't I Was the only person to get the next question right? Oh wow? Maybe maybe again. That was a big day. Also. I think the number is 66 million years Jurassic Park it just went for either the nice the nice round number or they're wrong. Former Bozeman Montana resident and curator of paleontology at the Museum of the Rockies, Jack Horner served as a dinosaur consultant on all of the Jurassic Park films and provided the inspiration for the Sam Neill character, Dr. Alan Grant. To hear more about how Horner is tired of talking about Jurassic Park, check out episode
Starting point is 00:25:03 301 of the Meat Eater podcast it ain't just chickens that are dinosaurs And I put him on the spot on that episode and said hey What would it take for a guy to get to go digging with you and then he didn't really answer? And so then I asked him again, and then he's like well I guess you could just email me So I emailed him and he didn't answer and then I emailed him again And he did answer and he kind of gave me a haphazard Invite to which I said I'm coming and then I went and I dug for dinosaurs with awesome
Starting point is 00:25:31 Kind of against his will he he was great. Yeah, I was gonna say he gave you a pretty clear answer Twice maybe three times. Yeah. All right Let's listen to the next theme, played in reverse. Oh boy. One of the greatest movies of all time. One more time, because it sounds so lovely. What you got there, buddy? Did I get it? Oh wow. Phil is cinema specifically your strong suit in pop culture?
Starting point is 00:26:22 Uh, I mean no actually not not really I you know I'm not I went to film school But I'm not like deep in the lore in the history of the film historians There's there are a lot of real dorks out there that whom I respect a great deal But this is probably your most accessible yes Yes for sure for those who haven't heard what I've been doing on Radio live as I've been doing like a third movies a third music and a third video games Mixed it up today. It's all all movies. Have you guys seen the new jeopardy the pop culture jeopardy hosted by Colin Jost? Shelby and I watched the first episode and I said it's three person teams
Starting point is 00:27:01 I said a good team would be her Phil and Randall so It's three person teams. I said a good team would be her Phil and Randall so Phil and Randall you guys could go I assumed to LA let's get on that and you guys could uh You leave Shelby out of it, too. You guys Now she covers things I don't know okay, yeah, but you cover things she doesn't know yeah But I think those things Randall yeah, so there'd be a lot of overlap with me and Randall. It's like they're looking at their wedding vows right now. That's right.
Starting point is 00:27:31 All right, how we feeling? We were attracted to each other based on our lack of overlap in pop culture. Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Spencer saying Indiana Jones. Reva saying Indiana Jones. Cal saying Indiana Jones. Randall saying Indiana Jones Reva saying Indiana Jones Cal say Indiana Jones Randall saying Indiana Jones Cory saying Indiana Jones Nate saying Star Wars Mac saying Titanic that is James Horner and Brody saying Star Wars Correct answer is
Starting point is 00:28:03 Sorry, man, it's just so fun. It's okay. I'm used to it. Raiders of the Lost Ark or Indiana Jones. Great job, team. What a hunky drawing there. During the scene in the Well of Souls when Indiana and Marion are trapped in a room full of snakes, producers supplemented the genuinely dangerous cobras and pythons with glass snakes or ophi-saurus, legless lizards that can be indistinguishable
Starting point is 00:28:25 from snakes at a distance. Quote, those literally could, those literally you could pick up and put on your lap, actress Karen Allen told the Today Show in 2023. I remember sticking my finger in their mouths just to prove to myself that they were as harmless as I was being told they were, and they were indeed fairly harmless. Really? You have any facts about that animal, glass lizards? Anyone know? Nope. They just look like snakes. Nope. They look like snakes. fairly harmless. Really? You have any facts about that animal? Glass lizards?
Starting point is 00:28:45 Anyone know? Nope. They just look like snakes. Nope. They just look like snakes. Yeah. All right. Last question in this round.
Starting point is 00:28:55 Listen up. Come on. Have I wrote this answer down yet, Phil? No. No hints, Max. I don't know. This is a, I took a music class in college and we listened to a lot of stuff that sounded like this played forward It sounds like a college music class, yeah, yeah
Starting point is 00:29:57 This one seems to be a stumper a little bit. I said you might feel confident. No. Yeah, I feel kind of confident I'm surprised at how similar these sound but when you hear back masking of like AC DC It's oh, you have no idea what you're hearing Apparently the words are the big hangout. A lot of his scores, especially the ones that were written around the same time, sound very similar. He definitely worked in modes throughout his career. And also a lot of his stuff kind of uses similar themes. I thought the timpani in the Jurassic Park theme song
Starting point is 00:30:20 was just a dead giveaway. Right at the end of that clip you play, that timpani comes in and oh god sounds like you took a little music class in college Randall? oh yeah all right I feel good about this one oh I just got marker on my hand are there ten questions Phil? oh there are ten we have four more after this I'm going to do a scoreboard update after this question.
Starting point is 00:30:46 Cory, in the future, when you leave your uncapped marker in my presence, please don't put it point up like this. Now I have to wash my hands. God forbid. For the first time today. Oh. All right. I'm gonna wrap it up here.
Starting point is 00:31:03 Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Spencer saying Harry Potter Reva saying Harry Potter Cal saying ET Randall saying Star Wars Cory saying Star Wars Nate saying Harry Potter Max saying Tommy boy Closest one yet Brody saying Harry Potter.
Starting point is 00:31:28 The correct answer is... Harry Potter! How was that close? I was being facetious. The actual title of this song is Hedwig's theme, named for Harry's snowy owl that appears in the first book and movie. After some inaccuracies were pointed out in her description Of the owls behavior Potter author JK Rowling responded quote I made a few elementary mistakes when it came to my depiction of Hedwig. Firstly Snowy owls are diurnal They fly by day secondly they are virtually mute
Starting point is 00:31:58 So Hedwig's frequent frequent hoots and chirrups of approval and comfort should be taken as signs of her magically enhanced abilities Thirdly as countless well-meaning owl lovers and experts keep writing into me in the early days owls do not eat bacon As Harry would feed her bacon all the time. I bet an owl would eat bacon Philly you're a fantastic beast fan I like the first movies the other ones are not good. Couldn't that owl just have been a fantastic beast wouldn't that have been clean Yeah, probably yeah, then she wouldn't had complaints. There's so many ways for me to weigh in on this conversation Next question please Well, that's about halfway through the game, maybe a little over don't worry. I'm not gonna keep you here for too long
Starting point is 00:32:41 Let's look at the scoreboard really quick mmm Maximilian you have zero points. Yeah, thank you. I'm glad you're here worry. I'm not gonna keep you here for too long. Let's look at the scoreboard really quick mmm Maximilian you have zero points. Yeah, thank you. I'm glad you're here though. I'm not talking about that kind of post I'm going to show you a cropped and zoomed in portion of an iconic movie poster And I need you to tell me what movie you believe the poster is advertising I did not write any follow-up factoids to half-assedly tie these moves into our four verticals this time
Starting point is 00:34:24 But the theme of my images is eyes, and animals have eyes, right? Yeah, some of them do. There you go, so it's good. The first photo. What movie is this image from? What movie poster? the movie poster for the movie? Will not be accepting the actor hmm and Can does anyone what's one of this? I think I wasn't paying attention. Starting point is 00:35:14 Does someone want to describe what we're looking at for the audio listeners so it says looks like five million friends friends Looks like a caucasian male about 24 years old those brown or hazel eyes I think they're blue. I think it's kind of got a Mona Lisa thing going on piercing I didn't know if he's smiling and we can only see him from the mid of his Forehead to just below the tip of his nose Maybe even just intersecting with the tip of his nose the bottom Border of our photo here, and if you want to play along you should go check out the meat eater podcast network YouTube channel Thank you Spencer see Phil's

Yes, he is unburdened Yeah, it's a great great poster great trailer You don't get to 500 million isenberg's or more mark Zuckerberg without making a few enemies alright the next photo We are looking at a Half of a pair of aviator style glasses very reflective some sort of lit skyline moving in the reflection of the glasses and the image is distorted a little distorted it's a little warped kind of twisted I would say ran you that you just stored it I did not distort it no I know this is front this is pulled
Starting point is 00:37:20 from the movie poster mm-hmm why was everybody so into the social network? I mean that and the 500 million friends gave it away I didn't know figured it was the I was thinking maybe like Remember arachnophobia? as a good movie Lot of bugs a lot of bugs out there That dude from friends who just died was in that movie wasn't he Perry Matthew Perry was he In arachnophobia never saw it, but I'm John Goodman's in there keep rushing it as usual Great move God. And Brody, Bright Lights, Big City. Correct answer is... fear and loathing in Las Vegas. Damn. Aviators, Top Gun. I get it. Yep. Yep. That's a good one. I was so
Starting point is 00:38:41 confident. Trailer breadcrumbs next image Well freaky you know this max maybe So this is sort of like it like it's kind of like a dot matrix So it's like just a bunch of dots that look like a creepy pair of eyes on a yellow background Maybe a first thing that came to my mind I wrote it down Brody Mike hmm what movies that I don't think you're right, Max. I don't think either one of you are. What makes you say that, Randall?
Starting point is 00:39:29 Just my record? No, just your answer. Did you look at it? Yeah. It was plainly visible. Looks like the cover of a Radiohead album. Yeah, I can see that. The bends. Yes yes I don't know
Starting point is 00:39:54 yellow stumped room I know I when I first made this round I thought it was too easy so I replaced some of them and now I don't know maybe I should have gone back to the other one that's's just right. You guys are doing pretty well. You're moving the spread. Were you impressed with Adrienne or did you think that nine was what she would get? Adrienne! I was thinking eight or nine. Honestly I thought nine was, I thought she would get eight. Is this one she missed?
Starting point is 00:40:19 Nine was solid. She got this one correct. Shit. And about half, this is one of her fastest ones so girls know this yes that is what we can draw from this information or as Yanni would say the female mind what do girls do at their spare time all right I'm gonna wrap it up here in a couple seconds Go ahead and reveal your answers we have Spencer saying the shining Reva saying the shining mmm Cal saying where the wild things are Randall saying the yeah, it's gonna writ the shining. I haven't seen that Poster no yeah that looks fake to me that was the very real poster All right, it was just a wild guess for you. It was like the like the face. Yeah Sure, that's like what what he does when he breaks through the or when he's trying to come through the door That was the only thing I could think of
Starting point is 00:41:39 Yeah, I don't know what this is supposed to be recalling It looks like a kind of a creepy baby when there there are no creepy babies in the Shining it also looked like 70s Whenever that came out sure book is is super creepy the movies fantastic Last scoreboard update here Max has zero points Nate's got three I think this is correct, but if you guys have been keeping your own score I they're very possible probable chance that I screwed up. But yeah, Brody and Cory with five points a piece, Reva and Cal with six, as well as Randall.
Starting point is 00:42:11 And in first place, our illustrious host, Spencer Newhart, he has seven points. And no one can catch Adrian. No one can catch Adrian, congratulations. Proud of you. All right, final question. Final image, I should say. I made this one very difficult on purpose, hoping that maybe there'd be one or two of you that might pull it out.
Starting point is 00:42:37 Hmm. I could pull an audible and show the original one I was going to do. I would like nobody to get this right so I can just win. No, the original one I was going to do like nobody to get this right Do for me Phil declared before the episode that he didn't have a tiebreaker And then he came up with one Phil have I seen this movie don't tell him Has anyone in this room seen this movie I? Yeah, I would I would say that probably through at least three of you have seen this movie. Oh wow. I didn't go, I didn't reach into the annals of some weird 1950s like, you know, B-movie.
Starting point is 00:43:14 This was a critically acclaimed, thought to be a modern masterpiece. That's enough, Phil. Yeah, did it win any awards? That's enough. Hold on, give us a heads up too and you're about we're looking at a sort of I don't even know how to describe this It's kind of like There's a pair of female eyes some some eye shadow She's looking at no idea very thin eyebrows some sort of I don't know what's around her head is it hair Is it something else? There's no way to tell
Starting point is 00:43:46 Interesting Brody's the only one old enough to have seen this movie, so that's not really fair So that's not really fair A modern masterpiece. Spencer, do you know it? No, I have no idea. I don't even know what that movie is Good. You never seen it? No. Oh, that's one you should go watch. Nate, can I see your answer? I'm optimistic about my guess. Okay. Oh, save it. I saw it.
Starting point is 00:44:21 Alright, how we doing? We're gonna wrap it up here. Go ahead and reveal your answers Spencer says Gong with the wind Reva says the great Gatsby Cal says Chicago Randall without an answer Cory says night at the Roxbury Nate says Monty Python on the Holy Grail max is the sound of music and Brody does not have an answer the correct answer is China Town Nicholson how many of you answer is Chinatown Jack Nicholson How many of you have seen Chinatown? I've seen no it is a lot You had two Jack Nicholson movies in there. Hmm back to back. Oh, I did. Mm-hmm
Starting point is 00:44:56 Well, well Lansky with that last question that makes Spencer our winner His job fence and now it's all that's left to do is to choose an organization You'd like to donate these this five hundred dollars to that was fun Phil. Thank you so much I feel like it ended on kind of a down note That was a hard one. It was a hard one I'm gonna donate my five hundred dollars to the North American sturgeon paddlefish society. They're right here in Bozeman. They specifically Paddlefish Society. They're right here in Bozeman. They specifically study and fund studies and do public outreach about two of my favorite fish in the world. Sturgeon, specifically Pallid Sturgeon and the American Paddlefish. A lot of listeners will never catch one of
Starting point is 00:45:37 them or see one of them, but if like me, it just makes you happy knowing that they exist out there in American waterways. That's a group that you should consider supporting the North American Surgeon and Paddlefish Society. We're gonna send $500 their way and that's a new organization that we've donated to. I bet they have some thoughts on irrigation and the Yellowstone. And none of them have seen Chinatown. That'll do it for this week's episode of Meat Eater Trivia, the only game show where conservation always wins. Thanks Phil! What a pro. Yeah, Spencer from South Dakota, he's the host.
Starting point is 00:46:16 Using those smooth mellow tones, he lays them questions down. And he likes taking those two and three year old bucks. And he's an avid amateur rock hound.
