Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. When the seasons are on, the work doesn't stop. Starting point is 00:00:34 Welcome to Meat-Eater Trivia, the only game show. where conservation always wins, and there is a prize. Meadeter will donate $500 to the conservation organization of the winner's choosing. I'm your host, Spencer Newarth, and today we're joined by Janice, Randall, Brody, Seth, Alex, and Bobby Classen. This is a 10-round quiz show with questions from Meadeter's four verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking. Me-deater trivia is brought to you by one of my favorite beers, Bush Light, Head for the Mountains.
Starting point is 00:01:04 Bobby, this is your first time on the show. Tell folks what you do here at meat eater. I am the assistant controller here at meat eater. Sorry, Bobby, it's your first time. You got to get beat up on the lights and that microphone. What does a controller mean? Yeah, I've always wondered this. I control the money.
Starting point is 00:01:20 Assistant controller of the money. Okay. That's it. That's it. Okay. Bobby, strengths and weaknesses when it comes to meat eater trivia, hunting fishing conservation cooking. I hope I don't eat these words.
Starting point is 00:01:32 Strength is probably fishing. It was a fishing guide in the past. Who we're at? Here, out of big sky. Okay. Trout. For Trout? Your gun trail.
Starting point is 00:01:40 For Trout. Yep. Gallatin and Madison mostly. Hunting is probably going to be my weak point. All right. We'll find out here. We got 10 questions to learn more about Bobby's wisdom. We have a mailbag question to start today's show.
Starting point is 00:01:53 If you have a question you want the crew to answer, send your question to trivia at the meat eater.com. The subject line mailbag. This is from Clark Newsom. I'm going on my first elk hunt this September in Tennessee and looking. to buy some gear if I could only buy a single first light top for the hunt. What would be your choice? Yanni,
Starting point is 00:02:14 what's your recommendation to Clark? September, Tennessee, Elk. I believe we have that piece called the approach. It has a built-in face mask. It's like a light to mid-weight synthetic. That's what I'd be in in September. If you were going to give
Starting point is 00:02:29 Clark another recommendation or two, what would be like your top three you think? Then I'd probably just go with the Marino quarter zip, the wick. Sleeves on that or no? In September and Tennessee, I'd probably have to cut them off, you know, just keep the core warm. Keep more, make it more breathable. Give like one more recommendation.
Starting point is 00:02:52 Probably the, just the hooded wick. Any other recommendations in the room for Clark? I'd get a pair of gators to keep the ticks off your pants. I bet that is some ticky country there in September. I would say it's tough to recommend base layers because one man's body in the humidity in high 70s, low 80s of Tennessee in September. Not the same as another man's body, but I would say the navigator. It's a nice, like, when it cools down, that thing weighs nothing. A lot of insulation value for the weight.
Starting point is 00:03:29 I think that'd be a really nice piece. Brody, what do you think? I'd just go with the old school kiln because it's very versatile. You can use it for, like, just the outside layer. You could use it for a mid layer. Like, it's just a good piece all around. All right. A lot of recommendations there, Clark.
Starting point is 00:03:46 Good luck with that elk hunt. Sweaty. We have some housekeeping. He's hunting elk in Tennessee? He says he's doing his first elk hunt in September. Oh, I thought it was deer. Hold on. That changes my answer.
Starting point is 00:03:57 All right. All right. I'm kidding. You don't have anything to add then? No, same. All I can just think about is sweating. That's all. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:04 I just keep thinking about. sweat. Sounds hot. We have some crew news. Janis is holding an event at the Milwaukee Meat Eater store. Yanni, tell folks about it. Oh, he could, um, our buddy that we just answered the question for, he could come visit. Yeah, he could fly up to Milwaukee. Fly up to Milwaukee. It's, uh, July, what's the date? July 30th. July 30th. Almost the last day of the month, I believe. It's pretty close. Is it the 34th? I can't remember how many days July has. I'm not good at that game. The guy like a controller probably easily, he knows. Big numbers, guy. I think it falls into all the rest have
Starting point is 00:04:36 31 if I did the rhyme right. But yeah, I'm going to be doing an elk seminar. So an hour of me just yakking about what I know about hunting elk and we're going to do an hour of Q&A and then an hour of hanging out and BS and at the Milwaukee store. So it's what? 5.5.30?
Starting point is 00:04:52 5. 5 o'clock. Yeah, if you're listening to this on the day it drops, it's tomorrow. Whoa. Oh. Yes. So you're going to have to be in the vicinity. If you're in Tennessee, getting your car right now. might make it. Here in Wisconsin, you can wait until tomorrow and drive on.
Starting point is 00:05:08 What are you going to teach people? If I was there, what would I learn? Oh, man. I'm trying to really frame it from a guy that's maybe never done, gone in an Elkhont and lives in Wisconsin now. And trying to really push them towards pulling the trigger and taking that step to do it. So trying to just make it seem like it is something that's attainable to them and simplify
Starting point is 00:05:33 it all. You know? Okay. That's my goal. That is an elk hunting seminar with Yannis, Thursday, July 30th at 5 p.m. It's the Milwaukee media store at the corners of Brookfield. All right, the Shelby Index for today is a three, so our winner should get six correct answers. And with that, we're on to the game of trivia.
Starting point is 00:05:52 Play the drop, Phil. Look, I need to know what I stand to win. Everything. How's that? Just tend to win everything. Question one, the topic is wildlife. This will be multiple choice, and this first great question is via John Schlesinger, one of our trivia question goats. What percentage of mammals are nocturnal?
Starting point is 00:06:24 Is it 30%, 50%, 70% or 90%? What percentage of mammals are nocturnal? 30%, 50%, 50%, 70. 90. That's a wild question. That is a wild question. A wide spectrum of answers. I feel like we could see all four answers today.
Starting point is 00:06:53 What percentage of mammals are nocturnal? 30%, 50%, 70%, 90%. This is a stat via National Geographic. Three today. Three. It's tough round. What percentage of mammals are nocturnal? 30%, 50%, 70%, 70%, 70%.
Starting point is 00:07:18 90%. Brody, are you ready? Was she bummed out by that? Shelby was in, yeah. rushing things along here. Sure, I'm ready. No, because she like kind of, it was like a one, I think going into the final three questions. I think she got two of the last three,
Starting point is 00:07:35 and so she felt relieved that she even changed the three. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says 70. Bobby 30. Randall 30. Alex 30. Janus 30, Brody, 70. The correct answer is 70%.
Starting point is 00:07:55 Brody and Seth. Got that one right. It's estimated that 70% of mammals are nocturnal, 20% are diurnal, 8% have irregular activity, and 2% are crepuscular. The International Dark Sky Discovery Center says that some nocturnal animals are in decline because of human lighting practices, they recommend limiting unnecessary outdoor lights as they can interfere with animal migrations, courtship,
Starting point is 00:08:24 and pollinating. Name them. The 70%? Yeah, name them. Well, I'll name 10 for you. Bats. Seven of them are going to be nocturnal. Here's question two. The topic is conservation.
Starting point is 00:08:37 The Wild Sheep Foundation's Sheep Show is held every year in this city. The room has their swagger your back. This whole side is very confident. Seth and Randall look like they have it. Bobby, do you think you have this one?
Starting point is 00:08:56 This is a total guess. Topic is conservation. The Wild Sheep Foundation's Sheep Show is held every year in this city. I haven't been yet. Ever. You've been a few times. I'm still drying out. That's not true because we went and did it.
Starting point is 00:09:12 We did a, you're still drying out. We went and did a trivia there. Or a podcast there once. Oh, yeah, I think way back in attendance there. Early, early meeting days. I assumed you had been there like three or four times by now, Yanni. That was like eight years ago or something. Randall, how many times you been?
Starting point is 00:09:32 Oh, five? Damn. It's a good time. Okay. Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says Reno. Bobby says, Bozeman.
Starting point is 00:09:45 The rest of the room says Reno. The correct answer is Reno Neve. I almost said it's a great time of year to be in Reno. Almost flew it. The next sheep show will be held February 3rd to February 6, 2027. It will be their 50th sheep show. There are dozens of big game tags that are given out via auctions and raffles at the event with about 90% of the funds going back to state agencies.
Starting point is 00:10:11 The two most expensive auctions at the 2024 Sheep Show were for big horn tags in Colorado and New Mexico. they sold for $600,000 each. Question 3, the topic is fishing. This next great question is via Brian Parks. The alliterative phrase, quote, red, right, blank refers to how boats should navigate marked waterways. Didn't even finish the question and Randall had his answer, Captain Randall.
Starting point is 00:10:45 Expired Captain Randall. The alliterative phrase, red, right, blank, refers to how boats should navigate marked waterways. Yanni, do you have this one right? Yes, sir. I was taught this by the same man that sent you those devil's pocketbooks. Oh, okay. Very nice gift from Yanni's father-in-law,
Starting point is 00:11:09 who Yanni was wildly complimentary of. I said, how is he as a father-in-law? And Yanni said, perfect. Those were his words. Sent me some mermaids purses. I'm still trying to think of a nocturnal mammal other than bats. I have a lot of questions. Do we count as that?
Starting point is 00:11:26 Because we're, we operate around the clock? I would guess we're either part of the 20% that's diurnal or the 8% that's irregular. I'm crepuscular. You are not corpuscular. I am. So he's most active. Yeah, I'm kind of, during the day, it's just a big. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:48 Come dinner. You get a couple little upswings on. Yeah, coffee and then happy hour. The alliterative phrase red, right, blank refers to how boats should navigate marked waterways. It's tough to be crepuscular in the summertime when happy hour falls like four hours before sunset. Yeah, yeah. Still figuring that one out. Red, right, blank.
Starting point is 00:12:17 Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says green. Is that what that says? Yeah. Bobby says, right. Randall, return. Alex, ready.
Starting point is 00:12:30 Janis, return. Brodie, without an answer. The correct answer is return or returning. Red right returning means that you should keep red channel markers on your right when returning to a harbor. That means if you're leaving the harbor, then you should keep green markers on your right instead. This rule applies to waters in North America, South America, Japan, and South Korea, but for those in Europe, Australia, or Africa, it is red, left returning. So if you're in those
Starting point is 00:13:04 international waters, it's very confusing. Did you get the first one right? No, nice. Question for the topic is hunting. Willie Robertson, Jason Aldean, and friend of the show, Luke Bryan, are are among the crew members of this Duck Commander spin-off that focuses on big game. Willie Robertson, Jason Aldine, and my favorite country artist Luke Ryan, are among the crew members of this Duck Commander spin-off that focuses on big game. Now, are you being facetious there, Spencer? Yeah, I mean, if Luke were to ever turn on this show, which I'm guessing has not happened, there were two episodes where he would feel a little bullied, I think.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Probably the one where I declared one of his songs, the worst country song. What's going to happen when you guys like run into each other in airport parking lot? I don't think anything will happen. Is he the type of personality that likes to have like public confrontations and have someone record it or not him? I don't know about that. But he will like respond to Instagram comments. The last time we talked about one of his hunting or fishing songs, we read some of the Instagram comments that he was responding to people. who were critical of him with.
Starting point is 00:14:25 Willie Robertson, Jason Aldine, and Luke Ryan are among the crew members of this Duck Commander spin-off that focuses on big game. Randall, do you have this one right? I don't think so. I know it somewhere, but I'm not getting anywhere. Seth, you have this one right? I think so, yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:42 Have you watched this show, you think? Yes. Okay. Because I remember hearing this fact at one point and sort of being astounded. Just blown away. And then forgot about it. Willie Robertson, Jason Aldeen, and Luke Bryan are among the crew members of this Duck Commander
Starting point is 00:14:59 Spinoff that focuses on Big Game. Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says Buck Commander. Bobby Buck Commander. Randall Buck Commander. And then he put in parentheses, Boney Brigade. I wanted that one.
Starting point is 00:15:16 I wanted that to be my answer. But this is the real one. Okay. Alex without an answer. Yanni, Buck, Command. Brody, Buck Commander. The correct answer is Buck Commander. Buck Commander started in 2007 and is currently on their 15th season.
Starting point is 00:15:33 Their crew of Buckman include country singers Luke Brian and Jason Aldeen and baseball players, Adam LaRoche, Ryan Langerhands, and Tumbo Martin. Their sister brands include Duck Commander, Strut Commander, and Finn Commander. Wow. Whole franchise. Good brand. Question five, the topic is Woodsman. This is our listener question of the week, which was won by Aaron Campbell for sending this great question. Aaron is going to get a $150 first light gift card.
Starting point is 00:16:01 If you want a chance to win the listener question of the week, then send your questions at trivia at the meat eater.com. Vault toilet and outhouse are synonyms for this five-letter word that's defined as, quote, an outdoor waterless toilet. The room is stumped. Vault toilet and outhouse are synonyms for this five-letter. letter word that's defined as an outdoor waterless toilet. Randall, do you have this one right? Boy, I think so.
Starting point is 00:16:35 Okay. This is question five. So we will get a scoreboard update from Phil the engineer after this. Phil has it set to sauna setting in the podcast studio today. Is a waterless toilet a contradiction in terms?
Starting point is 00:16:55 I don't know. That's the definition I found for this word though. Vault toilet. And outhouse are synonyms for this five-letter word that's defined as an outdoor waterless toilet. Bobby, do you have this one right? Decent guess. It is five letters. I don't think so.
Starting point is 00:17:15 Okay. I think Bobby and Randall are the only players with an answer. Yanni, can you address the sleeve situation? It's been a few months since we've seen you wearing sleeves. Some folks have commented on it. They've wrote emails about it. What's going on? Good. I'm glad that they're paying attention because they need to start doing it too and realize the freedom that they'll feel without sleeves. But if I take this time now to do this or then you're going to give me the time to also think about my answer, because I know it's in there. How long of a response do you possibly have about why you know? I got a whole deal going here. Okay. So like personally for me, I still know after two months sleeveless, I walk into the grocery and I'm like, I'm not quite. I'm not quite.
Starting point is 00:18:03 comfortable and that's stupid so i'm just going through like a thing where i want to become comfortable in my literally in my own skin well the next the next logical extension of this program by which you're working towards equality and dress code the bear midriff i think that's your next frontier maybe yeah just everything from the ribs down so yani now uh does jimco's too much at work and he recommend if you're a banker out there, if you're a teacher, start wearing the sleeveless shirts to work. No, see, unfortunately
Starting point is 00:18:41 not everybody can do it at work. But as soon as you get out of work, change into your sleeveless. All right, you answer the question. Rip those sleeves right off. Answer the question, Donnie. Oh, gosh, just give me just 30 seconds. I know it's in there.
Starting point is 00:18:55 Outhouse are synonyms for this five-letter word that's defined as an outdoor waterless toilet. Brody, did you come up with it? Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. I got a million names. Probably be real mad when I hear. I have many names in my head for this, but none of them are five letters. It is a tough round of trivia so far, the Shelby Index of three. Does Shelby get this one?
Starting point is 00:19:16 Looking solid. She did not. Is everybody ready? I got something written down. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Oh my God. Without an answer. That's right. Bobby says potty. Randall says privy. Alex without an answer, Yanni says Privy, Roddy without an answer,
Starting point is 00:19:36 the correct answer is Privy. I can't believe you got there, Yanni. If you watch some westerns, you get it right. The other definition of Privy is, quote, to have secret or exclusive knowledge of something. This definition, plus its use as an outdoor toilet, is because Privy traces back to the Latin word privetus, which means private.
Starting point is 00:19:59 Artville, halfway through the game, scoreboard update. scoreboard update is that Alex and Bobby are tied up with one point. Good job. Correction. I have zero. Alex. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:14 Can we clip that as a sound effect? I promise you I got zero. You got a Rino, didn't you? Oh, yeah, you did get Reno. Sorry, I'm just jaded by my past experiences on the show. I mean, I can take it off. Let's take it out. Let's take it off.
Starting point is 00:20:29 I'm just jaded by my fast experiences. on the show. Seth and Brody are tied up with three points and in first place it's Randall Williams and Janus sleeveless
Starting point is 00:20:41 Patelis. Man, I didn't think you had privy in you. Oh, you got that? He did. I thought you were just going to flip over a blank whiteboard actually.
Starting point is 00:20:51 Hey, I'm Ruby Carr, the host of the podcast Encore. Check out our brand new episodes featuring music from the show that everyone is reheating as we speak.
Starting point is 00:21:00 Heated rivalry. Join me as I go behind the songs that brought Shane and Elia together. I'll tell you the stories of Fice, My Moon, My Man, Wolf forades, I'll believe in anything, and tattoos all the things she said, and how they all became a part of this global phenomenon. Stream encore on IHeart Radio, Crave, or wherever you get your podcasts. Good Lord, they're finally here, at long last, after fighting and yelling and fighting some more. Clay Newcomb and First Light have done it. They have built a pair of work bibs together.
Starting point is 00:21:34 Not just any work bibs. We're talking the bare grease bibs from Clay. Now, I've watched Clay work long enough to know that he wasn't going to put his name on a pair of hunting pants, pretending to be work bibs. And boy, he did not. These are Clay's invention for things like breaking mules, rendering grease, kneeling in the dirt. I'm going to use them all the time, trap and working, fixing stuff. It doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:21:57 If you want good, durable, comfortable bibs, these are your bibs made from tough stretch duck cotton. They got briar-proof chaps that run from cuff to thigh. They got pockets damn near everywhere. Again, comfortable and durable. Put them on. You don't need to worry about having anything go bad. If it wasn't so hot right now outside, I'd be wearing them right now. But you can bet your ass I got them in my truck.
Starting point is 00:22:22 And they are up at the meat eater store right now at the meat eater store. question six the topic is wildlife ace is tasked with finding this pro sports team's abducted mascot in the 1994 comedy ace ventura pet detective thank god randall has it a poplix has it ace is tasked with finding this pro sports team's abducted mascot in the 1994 comedy ace ventura pet detective next season, baby. Alex is going to double his score. The biggest year in a single
Starting point is 00:23:05 comedic actor's life. Really? What else did he do? I suppose the dumb and dumber? The mask. Okay. And Ace all in the same year. Wow. Yeah. I mean, you could probably just pull off like comedic and just be like any actor, right? Like as far as box office numbers, it would be hard to beat that. That's fair. In a year. But now he's just lost his mind. He has. He's lost its face. He's significantly altered.
Starting point is 00:23:29 Ace is tasked with finding this pro sports team's abducted mascot in the 1994 comedy, Ace Ventura, Pet Detective. I think he's fun. And those Sonic movies could be worse. And he's pretty good. Okay. That's my opinion. You need the team name.
Starting point is 00:23:44 The team name. That's right. Not the mascot. We're looking for the pro sports team. Yeah. I'm a bigger fan of, you need the city too? When nature calls.
Starting point is 00:23:53 You can just tell me the mascot. You don't have to say city. You can just say, If it was Montana State Bobcats, just Bobcats would work. Phil, what'd your kids think of the Sonic movies? I want to hear their review since it was for them, not for you. I mean, they're not, we don't have them on repeat in the house, but we saw the last two in theaters.
Starting point is 00:24:16 Nice. And I've had worse experiences during kids' movies in theaters. Are they familiar with Jim Carrey's older work? Yeah, we've watched this film as a family. You know, the Grinch is a classic. What about Liar, Liar? We have not watched Lyer Lyer. It's a little racy.
Starting point is 00:24:35 Yeah, that might be for when they're teenagers. Yeah. Is everybody ready? Some of them are. One of them is. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says the Chicago Bulls. Bobby, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Starting point is 00:24:47 Randall says the Miami Dolphins. Alex Miami Dolphins. Yannis says the Miami Marlins. And Brody says Miami Dolphins. The correct answer is the Miami Dolphins. And now the Florida Marlins. Ace Ventura is hired by the dolphins to find Snowflake, the bottle-nosed dolphin. The thief is a retired Miami kicker, Ray Finkel, a fictional player who missed the game-winning field goal in a prior Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:25:14 Finkel also kidnaps Hall of Famer Dan Marino, who Finkel blames for the botched kick. Ace saves the day when he frees Snowflake and Marino just before the second half of that year's Super Bowl, which the Dolphins are playing in. there is the movie poster for Ace Ventura Pet Detective. Randall, do you have a review for us of Ace Ventura? I mean, I'll be honest. I saw when Nature calls the sequel before seeing the original Pet Detective. I think that's a better, more complete film. Okay.
Starting point is 00:25:52 Rank it for us among Dumb and Dumber and the Mask is 1994. God, the mask is one I haven't revisited in quite some time. But I almost said somebody stopped me during this as a joke, but then I realized that was a bit of dialogue from the mask, I think. It is. Can any of them really be better than Dumber and Dumb and Dumber? I think Dumb and Dumber is hard to. Yeah, we've also recently watched Dumb and Dumber and The Mask as a family.
Starting point is 00:26:16 Dumb and Dumber is probably the best out of those things. That's a Mount Rushmore of comedies. Question seven, the topic is conservation. This next great question is via Tristan Lay Manuel. It was not so mm-mm-good for this food brand in 2025 when they admitted to 5,400 violations of the Clean Water Act at the Mami River. Mm-mm, good, that's M-apostrophe M, exclamation point. M-apostrophe M-exclamation point, good, exclamation point. It was not so mm-mm-good for this food brand in 2025 when they admitted to 5,400 violations of the clean,
Starting point is 00:27:01 Water Act at the Mami River. Hey, you know what I learned about on a podcast today that there are herbicide forensic. What do you call something that works in forensics? Forensics scientists? Forensic scientists. Or investigator? That like if you go overboard on your herbicide use and you don't follow the label the way it's written and then all of a sudden there's like a fish kill downstream where you get some drift and the neighbors like half their crops dies, they can come in and test your place and be like, oh yeah, Spencer didn't follow the directions when he was spraying the
Starting point is 00:27:36 Gly around. Yep. And get you. Do you spray that stuff on your farms, Spencer? Now that I have like started planting things that I planned to eat, I've cut back probably like 90% or 95%. So I'm not totally free of pesticides and herbicides, but I've significantly dialed it back. Where's the Malmary River? Not going to tell you.
Starting point is 00:28:00 Okay. It was not so mm-mm-good for this food brand in 2025 when they admitted to 5,400 violations of the Clean Water Act at Ohio's Mommy River. Randall, do you have this one right? Ohio boy over there. I don't think so. King of Ohio, they call him. I don't think so. Mm-mm-good.
Starting point is 00:28:27 Let's everybody ready. Let's flip them over. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth without an answer. Bobby says KFC, Randall, M&Ms, Alex, Campbell's, Yannis, Campbell's, Brody, Campbell's soup. The correct answer is Campbell's Soup. The violations occurred between 2018 and 2024.
Starting point is 00:28:49 That's when their canning facility was discharging wastewater containing phosphorus, ammonia, ecoli, oil, and grease into the Mami River. The river is Lake Erie's largest tributary. And environmental groups said the pollution was contributing to the lake's toxic algae blooms. The exact civil penalty for Campbell's soup is still pending the outcome of a trial. Now, why would all that stuff be coming from a food? To put a silver lining on this, at least that stuff wasn't going into the soup cans. Or was it?
Starting point is 00:29:19 Right? Yeah, I think Seth's right. It was probably getting in a little bit of both at that point. I read way too much into you repeating for the listeners. That's M, apostrophe, M. It is insane. Spelling and punctuated. When I saw your answer, Randall,
Starting point is 00:29:35 it's like, that's actually even a better answer than the correct answer, M&M. Yeah. All right, question eight, the topic is cooking. Celebrity chef Emerald Lagasse, whose recipes include venison stew, garlic studded venison,
Starting point is 00:29:50 and Tex-Mex venison chili, is famous for this three-letter catchphrase. Randall has it, Yanni, and Brody going to their whiteboards. Is this the one you have the video for? Yes, we have a video for afterwards. I was so hopeful that you're going to play part of Ace Ventura for us.
Starting point is 00:30:08 No, this is even better. Okay. This deserves an Oscar. Celebrity chef Emerald Lagasse, whose recipes include venison stew, garlic studded venison and Tex-Mex, Venison chili, is famous for this three-letter catchphrase. We had a spoon rest in our kitchen growing up that had this catchphrase engraved on. Wow.
Starting point is 00:30:29 Okay. My dad was a big Emerald fan. I think all dads should be big Emerald fans. Seth, I'm a little surprised you have this one right. Seth's the man of culture. Good. Ridiculous question. The spelling count.
Starting point is 00:30:51 I'm going to say it does for a three-letter word. Spelling does count on this one. Are you trying to make the same noise, or are they just three letters, the correct letters out of order. I don't know how to spell the noise. Great TV show. Write something down and we'll judge you. Chef Emeril Lagassee.
Starting point is 00:31:12 It had a live studio audience. It had a live band there with him. He knew how to get people fired up. I would watch it if it was on TV today. I don't think I've ever seen an episode. Rachel Ray had a live studio audience. She did. Yeah, I mean, that part's almost not even relevant for me to bring up since any food
Starting point is 00:31:29 network show probably has a live studio audience. And I think in the video we're going to show afterwards, you see a young Rachel Ray there. I was like, is that Rachel Ray? And then I watched it a second time. I was like, I think that is Rachel Ray. Big Rachel Ray fan. Is everybody ready? Looking for the three-letter catchphrase.
Starting point is 00:31:48 Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says, bam. Bobby, bam. Randall, bam. Alex says, Hey, yo. Yanni and Brody say, bam. The correct answer is bam, and I appreciate the exclamation points we saw in the room.
Starting point is 00:32:07 Janice, that's going to be your new catchphrase on roast now, right? Eo! Maybe. Emeraldogasi is an award-winning creole chef with a dozen restaurants. He rose to fame in the early 90s when he started hosting the Food Network show, How to Boil Water. His signature catchphrase, Bam, is used to fire up studio audiences when he's seasoning a dish.
Starting point is 00:32:29 I'm surprised that some hunting influencer hasn't co-opted that. The bam catchphrase? Could be you, Yanni. All right, Phil, scoreboard update. We have two questions left. Two left. Oh.
Starting point is 00:32:42 It's a tight one. Everybody's game. Bobby works way up to two. Alex has three. Seth has four. Hey-oh. But I'll tie it up in first place with six. Points a person are Janus, Brody, and Randall.
Starting point is 00:32:56 Question nine. The topic is fishing. Name three of the four states that touch the Delaware River. Name three of the four states that touch the Delaware River. Saw and love up. I got my mom or Rachel Ray Cookbook one year for Mother's Day when I was a kid. And I feel like she's the one who popularize the phrase EVOO, extra virgin olive oil.
Starting point is 00:33:25 Name three of the four states that touch the Delaware River. Is that river Around North or South or East and West? Hmm, good question. Anybody know? Seth, do you have this one right? Yes. Randall, do you have this one right?
Starting point is 00:33:43 Pretty sure. Alex, he already has his whiteboard down. I've got at least one of those right. Okay. Who is fish this river? I have. Same. Okay.
Starting point is 00:33:55 Many times. You're going to tell us about it after we reveal the answer. Yanni, do you have this one right? Probably not. Named three of the four states that touch the Delaware River. Yeah, not my geography of expertise. Bobby looking confident, though.
Starting point is 00:34:17 Yeah, or nay? I feel good about at least one of them. Okay. I don't know about all three. Alex, are you ready? Yeah, let's do it. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey.
Starting point is 00:34:30 Wow, what a show off. Bobby says Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York. Randall, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey. Alex, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia. Yanni, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland. Brody, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey. The correct answers are Delaware, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Brody and Seth got that one without even putting Delaware down.
Starting point is 00:35:00 Yeah, I don't think of it as a Delaware River. Yeah. You know, it's weird. Good job, Brody and Seth. The Delaware River forms the border of Delaware and New Jersey, New Jersey and Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania and New York. The Delaware River says the upper stretch of the river is, quote, home to the best wild trout fishing east of the Rockies. The middle section is known for its legendary American shad, and the lower stretch is famous for its striped bass. Seth, Delaware River, what were you catching?
Starting point is 00:35:32 Middle section, take a guess. Middle section, American Shad. Yep. Okay. What'd you do with those, Shad? You know, I don't remember what we did with them. We might throw them back. What do you do to catch an American Shad?
Starting point is 00:35:44 We would just get in, like, runs. They would, like, kind of stage before, like, a quick section of river. And you would get in there with Shad darts, and they would just kind of flutter back there in the current as they were coming up through. they would hit him. Any bycatch doing that? No, we always just caught Chad. All right, here's a correct answer review so far. One was 70% of mammals are nocturnal.
Starting point is 00:36:09 Two, Reno. Three, red, right, returning. Four, Buck Commander. Five, privy, six, Miami Dolphins. Seven, Campbell's Soup. Eight, bam. Nine, Delaware, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania. Phil, scoreboard update.
Starting point is 00:36:26 Yonis hit a hurdle with that last question, but he's still in the game with six points. Brody and Randall have pulled ahead with seven points. Final question. Question 10, the topic is hunting. National Deer Association says this six-letter plant is, quote, perhaps the most popular food plot for deer. Alex, real quick to answer.
Starting point is 00:36:51 Seth, real quick to answer. Randall, quick to answer, and now we race. If Randall and Brody can get this one wrong, and Yanni can get this one right. I have it right. Okay. But I doubt these two are going to bomb. Brody, do you have this one?
Starting point is 00:37:08 I have a six-letter word. Okay. It's a plant that I see deer eating sometimes. When I was driving home from Michigan, all I saw in these fields were deer every time. Okay. Randall, do you have this one right? You could... I don't think so, but I have six letters.
Starting point is 00:37:24 You could see what it is from the interstate, huh? Well, now you're making me second-guess, man. We'll find out if you got it right. You can see all the apples on the trees. National deer's three peas. And you can, you can see that, see it from,
Starting point is 00:37:42 I mean, it's only a few things. Okay. Says this six-letter plant is perhaps the most popular food plot for deer. Is everybody ready? Oh yeah. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Oh!
Starting point is 00:37:57 Seth says clover. Bobby says clover. Randall says barley, Alex, Clover, Janice, Clover, Brody, Clover. The correct answer is Clover. Just gave it to Brody there. Clover varieties include Arrowleaf, Crimson, Ladino, Burseem, Red, and More. Its popularity is because it provides high protein, has a long-growing season, is highly digestible,
Starting point is 00:38:26 fixes its own nitrogen, and is relatively inexpensive. In the right environment, a clover pot. can last for five years before it needs to be replanted. Yon, you got any clover plots. I do. Well, we just have all of our new roads now that we put in after we did the logging. They're all clovered, clover and chickory and oats, I believe. Oats are just there to kind of...
Starting point is 00:38:50 What variety do you go with? Ooh, I don't know. I got the mix, the clover, chicory and oat mix from my boy over there at Vitalized Seed, Jared Bank. Deer like them. They do. Okay. But I was just going to say I did a earlier, like a road and a turnaround in the woods maybe four or five years ago.
Starting point is 00:39:12 And every spring, it's the first thing to green up and the deer and turkeys are in there eating it. Okay. Clover. That makes Brody, today's winner for getting question 10 correct. He got eight right answers. Yanni and Randall got seven. All right, Brody, what are we going to do with that $500 donation? Let's send it to the National Deer Association since they got me the win.
Starting point is 00:39:35 Oh, good for you, Brody. It's a good reason they'll appreciate that, putting out all that good material and how you can best make a food plant that the deer want to eat. Be okay, Randall? Join us next week for more meat eater trivia. The only game show where conservation always wins. Thanks, Spencer. Yeah, Spencer from South Dakota, he's the host.
Starting point is 00:39:56 Using those smooth mellow tones, he lays them questions. Shins down. And he likes taking those two and three-year-old bucks. And he's an avid amateur.
