Starting point is 00:01:02 It's a me Deeder podcast. Welcome to Meat Eater Trivia, the only game show where conservation always wins. There is a prize. Meadeter will donate $500 to the conservation organization of the winners choosing. I'm your host, Spencer Newark, and today we're joined by Janus, Corey, Max, Laura, Omar, Riva, and Nate. This is a 10-round quiz show with questions from meat eaters' four verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking.
Starting point is 00:01:35 Mead eater trivia is brought to you by. one of my favorite beers, Bush Light. Bush Light, head for the mountains. All right, we're starting today's episode with a mailbag question. If you have a question you want the crew to answer, then send your question with the subject line mailbag to trivia at the meat eater.com.
Starting point is 00:01:51 I like this question. This is probably my favorite one we've gotten so far. It was sent just a couple of hours ago this morning. It is from Madeline L. My husband and I do not get many date nights. This means when hunting season comes around, we treated as date nights, leaving the kids with my family.
Starting point is 00:02:06 and go sit out in the stand or blind together. We take turns per season, whose turn it is to get to shoot and have a chance at an animal. Two years ago, my husband harvested his first black bear. Last year, we went bear hunting and it was my turn to shoot, but we did not even see a single bear, so we walked away with nothing. We are now having a tip about whose turn it is to shoot this year. He thinks it is his because it was my opportunity last year, and it doesn't matter that we didn't see anything. I think it is mine because I didn't get to harvest an animal or even get to shoot.
Starting point is 00:02:40 I would love the crew's thoughts and input. Whose turn is it? Yeah, she hasn't had an opportunity. Yeah. What a dick. Okay. It would be different if she, like, missed a bear. And then it would be like his turn up to bat, you know, but yeah, ladies first.
Starting point is 00:02:53 My take would be if it was the husband, like, both of you have never shot a bear before. The husband got his first bear. Now it's your turn. You didn't get one yet. I think it should just be your turn until you get that opportunity. For sure. that bear. After that, I think you could just alternate. And like, if you strike out then, uh, beyond that, uh, that, that was your season. That was your chance. Now it goes back to your
Starting point is 00:03:12 husband. But I, I, I think there's a little bit of a twist with the fact that they're probably not just hunting bears, right? There's like deer seasons coming up or whatever. So how does it play into when it comes, when it comes to a different species? I think if you each had your first deer, if you each had your first turkey, just alternate beyond that. But assuming this is Everyone's first black there. Let Madeline have the shot. But else, team Madeline.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Yeah, for sure. But if they go deer hunting, I think they should sort of like start back at zero. And they just trade off. Okay. And this time, you really got to decide, are we doing it per day?
Starting point is 00:03:47 Are we doing it per sit? Are we doing it per animal? And just have that discussion ahead of time. Some people do it per hour, too. Like, oh, this is your hour. Oh, that's insane. Riva has some input. Riva.
Starting point is 00:03:57 Whose turn is it? It seems like he should have first right of refusal. Mm. But it would be a gentlemanly thing to let her have it. That's right. I agree. In my house, my wife just makes all the rules. So I don't know what they're debating about.
Starting point is 00:04:13 She could have had 10 shots at bears. She's like, this is my shot. It's going to be her shot. Laura, what do you think? Whose turn is it? Oh, well, I took the literal route where she said we took turns each season. So, I mean, you strike out. Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:29 You're passing it on then. You think it's the husband's turn. Yeah. All right. We have, I think, eight folks in this room, and it seems like six of us are team Madeline and one or two, team husband. Phil Taylor. What do you think? Give us your thoughts. There cannot be a person in this room with less authority or perspective. So I'll just, as I often do, I'll side with the wife. Okay. Smart move.
Starting point is 00:04:54 Team Madeline. It's Madeline's turn again, at least until she gets her first bear, gets her first chance. I heard a good one the other day. I felt I was in a class. I was taking a kid. and we're doing like introductions and the guy was making a joke but he said yeah i make all of the big decisions in this relationship here we just haven't had any big decisions to make yet all right no housekeeping today the shelby index for this episode is a three so our winner should get six correct answers and with that we're on to the game of trivia play the drop phil look i need to know what i stand to win everything How's that?
Starting point is 00:05:33 Just tend to win everything. Suckers! Question one, the topic is hunting. This first great question is via Shalantichi. The American Kennel Club places beagles in this class of dog. Is it sporting, working, herding, or hound? The American Kennel Club places beagles in this class of dog. Is it sporting, working, working, or hound?
Starting point is 00:06:10 herding, or hound. Max, would have you needed the choices on this one? You were pretty quick to answer. Yeah, I would have. Okay. Just to... Yeah, just to make sure my answer was... Yeah, just make sure I had a chance.
Starting point is 00:06:25 I don't know if I would have known the classes to choose from. I thought it was going to be something else, like type of game they pursue or something. Like, I wouldn't know what the difference between working and hurting is. Like, what's an example of a working? Well, I guess you'll tell us in the flavor test. The American Kennel Club places Beagles in this class of dog, sporting, working, herding, hound. I don't even know if I'm right. I kind of want a beagle.
Starting point is 00:06:51 Yeah, they're pretty cool dogs. Yeah, but what's working dog? Like a German Shepherd. All right, we're giving a lot of hits out here. Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. Yanni says, hound, Laura, hound, Riva, hound, omar, hound. Hound.
Starting point is 00:07:10 Upside down. Corey Hound. Nate Hound. Max Hound. The whole room got it right. The correct answer is Hound. AKC says that the Hound category is a group of dogs that share the ancestral trait of being used for hunting. This class is known for its stamina, nose, and baying.
Starting point is 00:07:29 The hound group includes coon hounds, foxhounds, bloodhounds, basset hounds, greyhounds, whippets, dachins, beagles, and more. You're going to whip it, huh? to whip it. I didn't have sporting, or I didn't have flavor text for the other groups, but sporting, that's like labs, I think. Bird dogs. Retrievers, yeah. Working, as Omar said, I'm guessing. I think that it sounds about right. Maybe. I'm a healer. Malinwa. I've met a new dog when I was in Kansas last week that I'd never even heard of.
Starting point is 00:07:59 Has anybody heard of a Patterdale? No. No. What do they do? It is like, you guys should Google it, image it later. When you first meet him, you're like, oh, it's a lab puppy with a dock tail. I mean, that's what it looks like, full grown. Huh. And very lovable. They almost kind of act like a lab puppy when you're just hanging out with them. Until they're within, like, scent distance of a coon, which then the other side of that
Starting point is 00:08:23 dog comes out and they go and kill the coon or whatever, you know, critter, you've trained it to get after. Patterdale? Yeah. So it's basically like a lab puppy that kills Coons. It's kind of. That's sick. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:35 Just some quick Googling here. Part of the working group, you have Siberian Husky. Dobermans and Great Danes, and then part of the herding group, Border Collies, German Shepherds, and Welsh Corgi's. Where does the Patterdale fall in? I don't know we are going to move on to question. I would say hound. The topic is woodsmanship.
Starting point is 00:08:57 The Discovery Channel debuted this risque reality show in 2013, which one TV critic called, quote, more voyeuristic than educational. The Discovery Channel debuted this risque reality show in 2013, which one TV critic called more voyeuristic than educational. Nate and Corey, quick to answer. Corey, have you seen this show? I have not. Okay. Laura, do you have this one right?
Starting point is 00:09:29 I think so. Okay. Do you like this TV show? No, 2013 is a weird time for TV shows. Okay. Can you expand on that for us? Phil was nodding his head in agreement, though. He also thinks 2013 was a weird year of TV.
Starting point is 00:09:47 No, but I wanted to make Laura feel better. The Discovery Channel debuted this risque reality show in 2013, which one TV critic called more voyeuristic than educational. Yanni with a blank whiteboard over here. I had two very young kids that year. I wasn't doing a lot of TV watching. Probably because they weren't sucking on binkies. Probably.
Starting point is 00:10:12 Paid off. There you go. Maxwell doesn't know this one either. Omar, do you know this one? I was a sophomore in high school. I was not watching too much TV. Reva, do you have an answer? Do you have this one right?
Starting point is 00:10:26 I think so, yeah. Oh, Riva knows it? Yeah. Nope. Discovery Channel. Is there like a shark, nature reality? No, no. a risque reality show
Starting point is 00:10:38 which one TV critic called more voyeuristic than educational. You guys ever seen an Egyptian pharaoh dog? That's another one I didn't know existed until I saw it. And you see it and you're like, that looks like an Egyptian dog
Starting point is 00:10:55 and turns out. They had a double ACL tear. Dang. Yeah. They did just put that thing down if it was like 50 years ago. Yeah. I don't know. Yeah. Weird looking dog. Is everybody ready?
Starting point is 00:11:09 Go ahead and reveal your answers. Yanni says, Shark Brothers. Laura, naked and afraid. No. Riva, naked and afraid. Omar, naked and afraid. Corey, naked and afraid. Nate, naked and afraid.
Starting point is 00:11:23 Max, Bear Grills. The correct answer is naked and afraid. Bear Girls is like 06, Max. Yeah, who knows? Naked and afraid is Corey every night. Naked and afraid is a reality show where two survivalists Usually a man and woman who have never met before are dropped into extreme wilderness locations. And as the name implies, they don't have clothes.
Starting point is 00:11:47 One former contestant said in a 22 TikTok that she is aware of at least five former duos who have hooked up while filming the show. Naked and Afraid is in its 19th season. Yeah, great idea. I mean, that producer, I guarantee a multi-millionaire. You could just do any reality show going forward like naked and basketball. Naked and fixer-upper. What about meat-eater and afraid? Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:15 Naked meat-eater and afraid. Question three, the topic is nature. The central part of this state is known as Sinkhole Alley, where porous limestone and abundant rainfall create America's highest frequency of ground collapses. The central part of this state is known as, sink hole alley where porous limestone and abundant rainfall create America's highest frequency of ground collapses.
Starting point is 00:12:49 Nate, the only player with an answer so far. And I don't know that he likes his answer either. No, it's a numbers game for me. Okay. One in 50 numbers game. Where's there a bunch of limestone? Hmm. Hmm.
Starting point is 00:13:02 The central part of this state is known as sink hole alley, or porous limestone and abundant rainfall create America's highest frequency of ground collapse. Is Maxwell, do you have a state? Yeah, I got a state. Okay. Eva, do you have an answer? I have something, but it's a guess. Sinkhole Alley.
Starting point is 00:13:27 Where is that located? Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. Yanni says Kentucky. Oura, Alaska. Riva says Arkansas. Omar, California. Corey, Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:13:44 Nate, California. Max, Kentucky. The correct answer is none of those. It's Florida. Oh, geez. Three specific counties, Pasco, Hernando, and Hillsborough
Starting point is 00:13:59 create sinkhole alley. They account for 75% of Florida's reported ground collapses. Tampa is in the heart of sinkhole alley with thousands of insurance-related sinkhole claims each year. Sinkhole season in Florida occurs in January and
Starting point is 00:14:15 February and May in June when groundwater tables fluctuate the most. This is the biggest sinkhole in modern U.S. history that happened in sinkhole alley 350 feet wide, 90 feet deep. It swallowed a home, Olympic-sized swimming pool, and car dealership. Today, it is a pond that's known as Lake Rose, and it's named after the homeowner who had their house swallowed by that sinkhole. Wow. Did they make it out a lot?
Starting point is 00:14:43 I don't think there were any injuries or deaths, I believe. in that accident. But Florida just bodies the rest of the country when it comes to making sinkholes. I should have known that. I lived in Orlando for a while, and that was something people talked about. Come on, Riva.
Starting point is 00:14:58 Could have taken the lead. Orlando likes their sinkholes as well. All right, we're on to question four. The topic is gear. This next great question is via Chase Stacey. This Swedish brand with a nine-letter name is best known for their chainsaws, even though they made firearms for 300 years.
Starting point is 00:15:23 Nate has his answer, Yanni started to write, but then paused. This Swedish brand with a nine-letter name is best known for their chainsaws, even though they made firearms for 300 years. Maxwell, do you have this one right? I got a Swedish name, maybe. Okay. And I, yeah, I think they make chainsaws. I didn't spell it right, though.
Starting point is 00:15:48 Spelling doesn't count. No, it does. If only. This Swedish brand with a nine-letter name is best known for their chainsaws, even though they made guns for 300 years. Omar, do you have this one right? I think I do. Corey, do you have this one right?
Starting point is 00:16:07 We'll see. Okay. Got a great guess. Laura, do you have an answer? No. Yanni, did you get this one? I believe so. Okay.
Starting point is 00:16:17 Room feels okay. Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. Yanni says Husk Varner. Laura, without an answer, Riva. Husk Varner. The rest of the room says Husk Varner. They got it.
Starting point is 00:16:33 The correct answer is Husk Varner. And I see the brand spelled with a Q or a K based on which country they're advertising in. Husk Varner was founded in 1689 as a musket maker for the Swedish army. They expanded into sewing machines, meat grinders, and bicycles in the 1800s, followed by motorcycles, lawn mowers, and chainsaws
Starting point is 00:16:58 in the 1900s. Husk Barton made their final firearm in 1989, causing their rifles to become very collectible to gun enthusiasts. Question five, the topic is fishing. The name of this fish is often shortened to GT, which Western Angler magazine says is quote, one of the fiercest
Starting point is 00:17:19 fish predators in the world. Max, confident, Corey confident. Corey was very confident. Laura confident. Yanni confident. It's a bucket list fish for me. The name of this fish is often shortened to G.T.,
Starting point is 00:17:36 which Western Angler magazine says is one of the fiercest fish predators in the world. Has anyone in the room caught a GT before? Nope. No. No. Okay. I don't have too many here in Montana.
Starting point is 00:17:50 There's a hint. There's a few. Nate, I feel bad for you. You got to hike a long way. Dude. Yeah, they're out in the Bob Marshall. Yeah. Have you used that fishing ride yet in your office?
Starting point is 00:18:01 Of course not. The name of this fish. I will do it at some point. I will do it before this child is born. What you got in the office? Something off the free table. It's an ugly stick. What?
Starting point is 00:18:11 Hey, you take that back. Oh, that's what it's called. The name of this fish is often shortened to GT, which Western Angler magazine says is one of the fiercest fish predators in the world. Yanni, are we just doodling over here? Yeah, okay, okay, all right. Is the rest of the room ready?
Starting point is 00:18:28 I've seen a video on this, but I don't know. I got it right. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Yanni, giant Travelli. Laura, same answer. Riva, gator trout. Omar, gator, travali. Corey, Grand Travali.
Starting point is 00:18:46 What? I know, I know. Nate, Grand Tarpon. Everybody poops. Max, Giant Travali, the correct answer is Giant Travali. Bummer. Cory. Oh, in my head, I'm like, that's what I wrote down.
Starting point is 00:18:58 A bucket list fish. Giant Travali are a type of jack and are the biggest of the Travali species. They are considered an adventure fish because of their size, speed, attitude, and challenging water where they live. GT like to hunt along shallow reefs, which is where anglers throw poppers for them. All right, and now it's time for our Can-Am question of the week. Thanks to Can-Am, you get some bonus trivia in this week's episode. This does not count towards your score. It's just for bragging, right?
Starting point is 00:19:28 Here's the question. The topic is hunting. Can-Am says that this five-letter accessory will, quote, undoubtedly save the day when you need to get unstuck or hoist a large animal. Bing, bang, boom, bob. We are halfway through the game of trivia. So we will get a scoreboard update after this. But right now we're onto the bonus can-am question. Can-Am says that this five-letter accessory will undoubtedly save the day when you need to get unstuck or hoist a large animal.
Starting point is 00:20:03 Go ahead and reveal your answers. Yanni, winch. Laura, Wynch. Riva says Can-Am. The rest of the room says, winch, they got it. It's a winch. That was our Can-Am question of the week. Can-Am.
Starting point is 00:20:18 unstoppable. Thanks, K&M. All right, Phil, scoreboard update. I don't know if this has happened before, especially in a game full of seven. Oh, my goodness. This is definitely never happening.
Starting point is 00:20:28 The entire room, all seven players have three points. Everyone's got a chance. As I say, anybody's game. Anybody's, let's have a seven way overtime. I would be tickled if that happened.
Starting point is 00:20:42 All right, I'll throw the game. Let's death pack. We just get all the rest of them wrong. It's like a grand teetan. I don't know. That's going to haunt me forever. Most of us aren't scouting or working on our property as often as we'd like.

Starting point is 00:23:23 Nate has it. Corey thought it looked like he maybe had it. Okay, yeah. Just bluffing me. This sporty word refers to the process where shallow cuts are made into the fat of a duck breast before cooking. Laura is clapping her hands. You have this one right, Laura?
Starting point is 00:23:40 She's going to keep her lead going into question seven. Omar blank whiteboard. Yanni blank whiteboard. Oh, I know it. It's there. It is just not, doesn't want to come out right now. Corey, did you find the answer? I dug deep and it was there. Okay, Reba, do you have the answer? All right. So we're waiting on. Omar and Yanni. I've never done this before. Oh, and Yanni thinks he has it. It's down to Omar on his blank whiteboard.
Starting point is 00:24:09 This sporty word refers to the process where shallow cuts are made. Sorry, Spencer. You keep it in your board in front of the camera. Oh, sorry. I just want to show everyone my answer. Oh, and they can see it. I really love the artwork. as well. This sporty word refers to the process where shallow cuts are made into the fat of a duck breast before cooking. Omar, are you ready? No answer. Go ahead and reveal your answers.
Starting point is 00:24:34 We have the whole room except Omar saying, scoring. They got it. The correct answer is score or scoring. To score a duck breast, you should make cross hatch cuts through the fat without penetrating the meat. This creates channels that help render. the fat and form a crispy skin. For more on this process, go read Danielle Pruitt's article on the meat eater.com
Starting point is 00:24:55 called How to Cook the Perfect Duck Breast. It has a perfect five-star rating on our website. It really does make a difference. Yeah. Question seven, the topic is fishing. This next great question is via Tedra Bean. Wharf and Pier are synonyms for this five-letter word
Starting point is 00:25:16 that's defined as, quote, a structure extended into a sea, lake, or river to influence the current or tide or to protect a harbor. Five letter word, wharf and pier are synonyms for this five-letter word that's defined as a structure extended into a sea, lake, or river to influence the current or tide or to protect a harbor. It does not look like anybody has an answer yet. Max has done a lot of writing and erasing. I got five letter word. Okay.
Starting point is 00:25:56 Riva, do you have this one right? Okay, Riva's nodding that she has it. Laura has now joined her with an answer that she thinks is correct. Max, what are the odds you have this one right? Oh, man, I feel pretty good about this. Okay, you know. All right. Max, Riva and Laura all seem to have it.
Starting point is 00:26:19 The rest of the room does not. But they're laughing like it's a funny word. Okay. She spelled it in the most unique fashion. Oh, all right. And then change it to an even worse spelling. All right. That makes me a question my answer.
Starting point is 00:26:32 That's a high tip. Yeah. I'm sorry. You're blocking the king. I'm just going to put it out. You're just giving the audience a sneak peek, which is fun. Wharf and peer are synonyms for this five-letter word that's defined as a structure extended into a sea, lake, or river to influence the
Starting point is 00:26:50 current or tied or to protect a harbor. Well, Phil, given my history, I don't know if the viewer should trust my answers, really. I will tell them that in this case, they shouldn't. Yeah, no. Oh, all right. Don't change that answer. Why is someone? Nate, do you have this one right? No, I'm going to hear it and be so sad. Yanni, do you have this one right? Yes. Okay. Well, as long as Laura has it right, Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, whoa. Okay, okay, I think I got it. I think I pulled it out.
Starting point is 00:27:21 Is it five letters? Oh yeah. Is everybody ready? Yeah. Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Yanni saying, Jetti, Laura, Jetti, Riva, Jettie, Omar, without an answer, Corey, point. Nate, Jettie, Max, Breach, Break. The correct answer is Jetty.
Starting point is 00:27:40 Hey-oh. This side of the table. Like a sea wall. Seawall break. Pulled that out at the last second. Humans have been making jetties for thousands of years with the planet's oldest known one located on the Red Sea. It was built by the Egyptians while they were also constructing the pyramids. That limestone jetty extends hundreds of feet into the water and served as a sheltered boat basin.
Starting point is 00:28:05 Here is an overhead picture of that jetty. 4,500 years old. It's the oldest one that they know about on the planet. All right, we are on to question eight. He's Egyptian. Always getting into things. The topic is woodsmanship. This is our listener question of the week, which was won by William Riddle for sending this great question.
Starting point is 00:28:26 William is going to get a $150 first-like gift card. If you want a chance to win the listener question of the week, then send your question to trivia at the meat eater.com. This homophone refers to the organic material in soil made from decayed, plant, and animal matter, and a Middle Eastern dip. Max and Nate both quick to ask. Okay. If you know Nate's diet, that could help you here. This homophone refers to the organic material in soil
Starting point is 00:29:01 made from decayed plant and animal matter and a Middle Eastern dip. Can you remind me what homophone means? I cannot remind you. If another player in the room would like to remind you, they could. But I would say they maybe don't. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:16 For Big W on this game. Oh, geez, you guys. Why don't you tell us what you think it means? We should make a gibboni handshake. What? When the non-Jabronies don't know something we do. It's like when in volleyball you ace them, you know? Ace, ace in your face.
Starting point is 00:29:38 Something like that, but for us. So this is edible? You ate it last night. This homophone. I had a couple of years ago. to the organic material and soil made from decayed plant and animal matter and a Middle Eastern dip. Maxwell says he's also recently eaten this. So if you know,
Starting point is 00:29:59 sorry, I gotta stop doing that. I do it on perfect. Max or Nate, that could help you. The listeners are probably gonna write in and just curse me. Corey, do you have this one? I don't think so, man. I got a pretty yummy dip written down. Okay.
Starting point is 00:30:13 Omar, do you have this one? I'm on the same boat as Corey. Riva? There's a chance. Laura. Always a chance. Chance. Okay.
Starting point is 00:30:23 Yanni, still have a blank whiteboard? Do you have an answer? Still blank. How much time do I have? Not much more. The rest of the room is ready. You think Jennifer knows this one? Oh, for sure.
Starting point is 00:30:34 For sure. This homophone refers to the organic material and soil made from decayed plant in animal matter and a Middle Eastern dip. I hope we're right. Oh, we're right. Oh, we're right. Guaranteed.
Starting point is 00:30:49 Really? Yeah. Yanni? He's guaranteed. I think you need to give up or come up with an answer. Go ahead and reveal your answer. Yanni says hummus. I would go.
Starting point is 00:31:03 Laura and Riva and Omar. The whole room says hummus. The whole room got it right. The correct answer is hummus. A lot of stress there. Seven way tight. The soil hummus is spelled with 1M and the chickpea hummus is spelled with two ms.
Starting point is 00:31:19 The 1M version is created when microorganisms fully decomposed dead things. It is the anchor of healthy soil, storing vital nutrients, holding massive amounts of water, and housing beneficial microbes. All right, Phil, give us a scoreboard. Is that the one where you can read it the same way?
Starting point is 00:31:36 Spelled two different ways, like having three buys or three twos or here and here. What's it called when you can read it forward to back? Oh, no, you're thinking of a... Like NASCAR. Oh. A palindrome is the same. Race car.
Starting point is 00:31:51 Race car. That's what it was. Taco cat. Laura knew what I meant. All right, Bill. Two questions left. The seven-way tie is broken. Oh, this is horrible.
Starting point is 00:32:02 But we do have a four-way tie in first place between Janus, Laura, Riva, and Nate. They all have six points behind them are Max and Corey with five. Omar has four. I've heard people call. a grand travolta. If we want to look it up, we should take five minutes. You know what?
Starting point is 00:32:17 I could look it up. We should look it up. Riva had a really strong game last time I was in here. Did I? Yeah. I think he almost won. Didn't Riva almost win when we were in here last time? Brianna.
Starting point is 00:32:31 Oh, Brianna. Sorry, Riva. All right, we're on to question nine. The topic is hunting. Come on, ducks, ducks, ducks. This publication with a redundant name was North America's first. White Tail Specific Magazine, which was founded in Wisconsin in 1977. The room is stumped.
Starting point is 00:32:53 A redundant name. This publication with a redundant name was North America's first White Tail Specific Magazine, which was founded in Wisconsin in 1977. This is when Spencer's like, oh, here you go, Yanni, take the game. Wisconsin, let me show you some Wisconsin. An old man from Wisconsin? Let me make a question for him. Geez
Starting point is 00:33:15 That's a low blow there, bud. Yanni, if I pitch a meat eater show called sleeveless and afraid, which you do? Sure, I'd host it. Great. Yanni, do you have this one right? I believe so.
Starting point is 00:33:32 This publication with a redundant name was North America's first White Tail Specific magazine, which was founded in Wisconsin in 1977. Is it still being... Not going to give you. you any hints?
Starting point is 00:33:46 Published. It would be nice to know. I'm not going to help you there. If it is, I'm going to subscribe today. Okay, wow. I'd help Yanni get that victory. You might have a one-point lead after this. Maybe.
Starting point is 00:34:02 Publication with a redundant name. Laura just came up with an answer. Is it the right answer? Sure is not. Okay. How about you, Omar? Do you have this one? I don't think so, but I've been wrong before.
Starting point is 00:34:14 You've been right before, too. You've been wrong about being right. Exactly. That's right, Matt. Is everybody ready? Hold on. Okay. Waiting on Corey. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:30 Maybe. This publication with a redundant name was North America's first White Tail specific magazine, which was founded in Wisconsin in 1977. Oh, Nate, doing a quick answer change. I'm changing strategy from just a joke to... That's a good story. Go ahead and reveal your answers.
Starting point is 00:34:52 Yanni, deer and deer hunting. Laura, white-tailed bucks. That's good, Riva. Reva, dear, dear, using the homophone. Omar, field and stream. Corey, hunt and hunt magazine. Nate, field and stream. Max, big, giant white tails.
Starting point is 00:35:09 Yanni got it. The correct answer is deer and deer hunting. The brand began in 1973 as stump sitters, then became deer and deer hunting in 1977. The name reflects the magazine's focus on the animal and the tactics used to pursue it. Pat Durkin estimates that he wrote more than 150 articles for deer and deer hunting in the 1990s. I looked the name Stump Sitter. That was a good name. Maybe a better name.
Starting point is 00:35:37 I think they are still in publication, Yanni, so you owe them a subscription now. All right, here's a correct answer review so far. One was hound. Two, naked and afraid. Three, Florida. Four, Husk Varna. Five, giant Travali. Six.
Starting point is 00:35:53 Score. Seven. Jetti. Eight. Hummus. Nine. Deer and deer hunting. Phil scoreboard.
Starting point is 00:36:00 Janis has pulled ahead. He has seven points now. Laura, Riva, and Nate are behind him with six. Okay. We'll see if we can stomp on question 10. The topic is. wildlife. This 10-letter word is defined as, quote,
Starting point is 00:36:16 a class of marine mollusks that includes squids, cuttlefishes, and octopuses. A 10-letter word is defined as a class of marine mollusks that includes squids, cuddlefishes, and octopuses. We have been in a drought for overtime lately. If Nate can get this right. Come on, Nate. Oh, I got a right.
Starting point is 00:36:43 Or Laura could get this right. And Yanni could get this wrong. Yanni has a grin, though. It seems like he knows it. A word just popped in there, and I wrote it down. He's got it. He's got it. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:36:57 I don't know. They may have secured the victory. You might just get a real good chuckle. I wrote down. Laura and Reva in second place right now, fighting for that tiebreaker. Do either of you have it? No.
Starting point is 00:37:09 No. I don't think so. 10-letter word is defined as a class of marine mollusks that includes squids, cuttlefishes, and octopuses. Speaking of octopuses, we should check in with Steve and see if he's caught any octopuses. Is he not home yet? I thought he was back. Was he already back? I don't think so.
Starting point is 00:37:28 I don't know. I don't know if Seth's still up there. Oh, okay. No, he's not back. Cuddlefish. Would the sunfish also fall in this category? It depends what kind of sunfish you're talking about. Ooh, the only sunfish, those big cool ones.
Starting point is 00:37:43 No, there's blue gills. Oh. Panfish. Those are my sonfish. Watch your mouth. Kid-friendly show. You can't hear you. Nate raises his child to immediate trivia.
Starting point is 00:37:59 Is everybody ready? Yeah, that's good. Baker and I listen to all the podcasts together at 3 a.m. Good company, man. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Yanni says cephalopod. Laura, invertebrate. Riva.
Starting point is 00:38:16 Squish, Squish. Omar without an answer. Corey without an answer. Nate, Cephalopod. Max, without an answer, the correct answer is cephalopod. Dang. Cephalopod is a Greek word that means head foot, which refers to how their head is directly connected to their many arms.
Starting point is 00:38:36 Other things that make cephalopods unique. is that they have three hearts, blue blood, and one of the animal kingdom's most complex brains. Blue blood? Blue blood? All right, that makes Yanni's today's winner. He got eight. Good job, Johnny.
Starting point is 00:38:52 Thank you. He gets to choose with a $500 donation from me to go. Yanni, what's it going to be? It's been a while. He's rifling for his phone. It's been a long longer from other people. Trying to figure out who he's going to donate that money to. It's been about three years, four years.
