Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey, your neighbor? You know that guy your neighbor? He's been out there all summer. He's hanging cameras. He's watching the photos roll in. He knows where that buck is bedding, where he's feeding.
Starting point is 00:00:13 He's pinpointing where he needs to be on opening day. You've seen the pictures, and you know the deer is there. The question isn't whether that buck gets shot this fall. The question is whether it's your story or his. So tip the odds in your favor with the on-x hunt app, trail, camera, analysis, hyper-local wind and weather forecasts, and the insights to act on what you're seeing. Don't show up to opening day empty-handed. Bring on X-Hunt.
Starting point is 00:00:40 The new Red Bull Dragonberry and Tropicberry Energizers, now at McDonald's, made with freeze-dried fruit and an electric burst of flavor. The all-new Red Bull Energizers, now at McDonald's. This product may not be right for you. High in caffeine, details at McDonald's.ca.commodelts. CA at participating Canadian restaurants, excluding Quebec. It's a meat eater podcast. Welcome to Meat Eater Trivia, the only game show where conservation always wins.
Starting point is 00:01:15 There is a prize. Mead eater will donate $500 to the conservation organization of the winners choosing. I'm your host, Spencer Newark. And today we're joined by Janice, Randall, Brody, Corey, Marge, Seth, and Dane Williams. This is a 10-round quiz show with questions from Meat Deer's Four Verticles, which are hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking. Me Deeder Trivia is brought to you by one of my favorite beers. Bush Light.
Starting point is 00:01:37 Bush Light, head to the mountains. Dane, this is your first time on the show. Tell folks what you do here at Me Deeter. I'm on the social media team as a social media and community coordinator. So I work with Alex and Nick. Okay. So anytime someone is talking smack about Yanni, you have to read that. Yes.
Starting point is 00:01:58 Send it to Yanni. I send everyone to him. Yeah. Dane, what are your strengths and weaknesses here at Me, Deeder Trivia between hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking? Hunting and conservation, definitely strengths. Cooking and fishing are going to be my weaknesses for sure. Dane, a big predator hunter. He owns a dog that I think is the first dog of that breed in the office.
Starting point is 00:02:21 What is it? What is that thing you have? I have a Cattahoole leopard dog. I don't think we've had one of those. And I have a mutt. Okay. They're both coyote decoy dogs. Two good, well-behaved dogs.
Starting point is 00:02:31 Welcome to the show, Dan. Thank you. All right, we're starting today's show with a mailbag question. If you have a question, you want the trivia crew to answer, then send your question with the subject line mailbag to trivia at the medeater.com. This is from Django Holt. He says, I recently inherited a lever action 3030 from a family friend that passed away. I haven't shot it yet, but it's a beautiful gun.
Starting point is 00:02:53 However, I'm not totally sure what to use it for. I deer and Elkhunt in Oregon. And most of the shooting I do is much longer than the accurate range. of a 30-30. Any suggestions on practical uses for this gun? We'd love to hear the crew's thoughts. Seth didn't even accept this invite to trivia until I sent out this mailbag question,
Starting point is 00:03:13 and then he accepted the invite because Seth is so passionate about this subject. Seth, what should Django do with that 30-30 he inherited? Well, he should do a lot of timber sneaking with that thing. Okay. Yeah. Get in the timber, get real close to him, be quiet. Still hunt and then shoot stuff real close.
Starting point is 00:03:36 Okay. Brody another 30-30 owner. Any advice for Django? Use it to break out of that long-range shooting mode and practice sneaking in on stuff. Like, dudes kill them with bows. There's no reason you can't sneak into 100 yards and shoot one with a 30-30. Okay. Randall, if tomorrow you inherited Brody's 30-30, what would you do with it?
Starting point is 00:03:56 Put a big old scope on. Well, I actually don't. Yeah. Bipod scope at some rails. I actually, I don't think I've owned a 30-30. Wow, okay. I did for a while. My absolute favorite rifle was a 45-70 lever action.
Starting point is 00:04:12 I sold that because I just was like, I don't frequently shoot things under 100 yards. And then I was going out lion hunting. And I thought, my God, I don't have anything to shoot like a cat out of a tree with. So I drove all over Missoula, looking for used deals on lever actions because it seemed like the perfect tool for that job. What'd you find? Well, I wasn't flushed with cash at the time and I couldn't find a good deal, so I ended up shooting that cat with a 20-gauge slug gun.
Starting point is 00:04:45 But had I had a 30-30 lever action? Like, you never know. Okay. That's the larger point of the story is you never know when you might have an opportunity where it's just the perfect, perfect tool for the job. So it's also a classic. classic rifle. I mean,
Starting point is 00:05:03 Missoula doesn't seem like 30-30 country. That's now where you walk into a sporting goods store and find a good selection of 30-30s. I don't know. I feel like everybody's dad or grandpa has had a 30-30 lever action at some point, right? And a lot of those guns make the circuit. But yeah, now that I think about it on the on the forums, I haven't seen a lot of moving.
Starting point is 00:05:27 Strange times. Any other advice for Django? No, I love his name. Cool name. Good name. And if you just think he wants a practical use for it. Practical use. Unless he's counting blasting. Because it's also just a fun gun to shoot.
Starting point is 00:05:42 Yeah. Set up some Coke cans and... Pick up your trash. Pick up your trash, of course. What would be real practical is if he can't find a use for it, go sell it, Django. Like, if I died and I gave my gun to Seth and Seth turned around and sold it, I wouldn't be the least bit offended. Because I'd be dead. So, Django, if you need to sell that gun to get a gun that you will use, that's my advice.
Starting point is 00:06:04 Fair point. Randall sells guns all the time. Too much. That's why so many ghosts haunt him. Yeah. All right, no housekeeping today. The Shelby Index for this episode is a four, so our winner should get eight correct answers. With that, we're on to the game of trivia.
Starting point is 00:06:19 Play the drop, Phil. Look, I need to know what I stand to win. Everything. How's that? Just tend to win everything. Backers. Question one, the topic is fishing. This first great question is via Charlie McDonald.
Starting point is 00:06:44 According to Noah, this was the most caught saltwater fish by recreational anglers in 2022. To be clear, this is American recreational anglers. Your four choices, flounder, bonefish, spotted sea trout, or redfish. This was the most caught saltwater fish by American. American recreational anglers in 2022. Flounder, bonefish, spotted sea trout, redfish. Brody, the quickest to answer. Brody, if I didn't give you choices,
Starting point is 00:07:22 would you come up with the same answer as what you wrote down? Probably not. Okay. And I mean, I'm just getting there. Getting there through what seems a logical route. This was the most caught saltwater fish by anglers in 2022. flounder bonefish spotted sea trout redfish it's 2022 the most recent year for which there's available data
Starting point is 00:07:46 that was there's something specific about that that was the data that I could find because it seems as though they roll out this kind of information like every four years like the US Fish and Wildlife Service does what I would love to know is the amount of seafood that goes through the catch can airport is just unbelievable yes they're ready for you when you show up with a cooler full of fish, huh? They're pros. Yeah. Just the amount of fish boxes is insane.
Starting point is 00:08:15 Is everybody ready? Marge are doing some erasing. Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Seth saying sea trout. Dane says redfish, Yanni, sea trout,
Starting point is 00:08:29 Randall, flounder, Corey, sea trout, Marge, sea trout, Brody, sea trout. The correct answer is spotted sea trout. The groom did well. It's estimated that there were 55 million spotted sea trout caught by American anglers in 2022. In terms of weight, striped bass are at the top of the list with 36 million pounds of strippers caught that year, and Scup were the most harvested fish with anglers taking home 18 million of those. Question to the topic is conservation. What
Starting point is 00:09:07 country has the most acres of taiga that is t a i g a what country has the most acres of tigua randall back on track you have this one right i hope so but i've lost all confidence okay oh just after one
Starting point is 00:09:29 yeah yeah in my flavor text there's scup s c u p am i saying that right scup scop scop i think it's also a porgy is that am i saying that right I think that's right. Forgy's right.
Starting point is 00:09:42 Okay. What country has the most Acupers of Taiga? Corey, do you have this one right? What is a tiger? Don't think so. T-A-I-G-A. Did you see my answer?
Starting point is 00:09:57 Well, I dressed up in a tiger for Halloween one time. Tony, the Taiga. Yonis, I know you're not wearing your headphones and you can't tell, but you got to get close to that microphone. I thought I was yelling and projecting enough, but I guess that's not the case. No headphones. and no sleeves.
Starting point is 00:10:11 It's your bugle tube. When does this sleeveless bit come to an end, Yanni? When it gets too cold? Okay. When he's six feet under. Oh, man, I mean, even when it's cold, you can be hiking up the mountain and sleeveless. That's true. I mean, they make vests.
Starting point is 00:10:28 First Light makes vests. Does this error in your life make you want to get more tats on your arms? No. Or more jacked? Nope. Nope. Nope. What he's trying to say, man?
Starting point is 00:10:40 I got more comfortable. Some pipes, man. Some pipelinesons. Yeah. Be doing curls. I support it. Again, we're on question to. Yeah, did you cut off a couple?
Starting point is 00:10:50 After we talked about it? I haven't yet. I'll do it. I'm running out of summer. Is everybody ready? Aren't we all? Isn't we all? Is I read something down?
Starting point is 00:11:00 Oh, yeah. Marge? Yeah, I wrote something down. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says Russia. Dane without an answer. Yanni, Russia. Randall, Russia, Corey, Russia, Marge, what did that say, Marge?
Starting point is 00:11:14 Mongolia. Brody, Russia, the correct answer is Russia. Tiga, which is also known as Boreal Forest, is a sub-Arctic landscape that's covered in evergreen trees. It is the largest terrestrial biome in the world, covering about 60% of Russia and 17% of the Earth's surface. The country with the second most, Taiga is, in a year. guesses Canada. Canada. That's right. Good job, room. We're on to question three. The topic is
Starting point is 00:11:44 hunting. Montana Knife Company defines this seven-letter butchering method as, quote, where you skin and quarter the animal without opening the abdominal cavity. MKC defines this seven-letter. I think Yonis made this much more famous than MKC. This is where I could find a clean definition of this. MKC defines a seven-letter butchering method. method is where you skin and quarter the animal without opening the abdominal cavity. I still have a two-part video on those are the only two videos on my own YouTube channel. When I was writing the flavor text for this, I came across that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:29 The publisher was Yonzo. Garrett and Barger very excited about growing that YouTube channel with some content that might not be quite, you know, enough for the regular meat eater channel. Part three. You still own channel. Yeah, I do. I do. I'm not going to sell out, are you? It's going to be a tough negotiation.
Starting point is 00:12:49 Video three, how to cut your sleeves. MKC defines this seven-letter butchering method as where you skin and quarter the animal without opening the abdominal cavity. Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Seth and Dane and Yanni and Randall and Corey and Cory and Bro. saying gutless, Marge without an answer, the correct answer is gutless. Don't do enough. No.
Starting point is 00:13:19 As the name implies, you leave the internal organs inside the carcass when doing the gutless method of butchering. This is popular among hunters who need to pack out the meat on their back. For more on this process, go read our article on the meat eater.com called Field Butchering Tips, Part 1, The Gutless Method, or watch Yanni's video on YouTube. And smash that like and subscribe. That's right, mailed from time. talking about, buddy.
Starting point is 00:13:45 Question for the topic is ecology. This is our listener question of the week, which was won by Jesse Bartlett for sending this great question. Jesse is going to get a $150 first light gift card. If you want a chance to win the listener question of the week,
Starting point is 00:14:00 then send your question to trivia at the meat eater.com. The Pine Barrens, which is supposedly home to a devil, is a 1.1 million acre ecosystem located in this. state. Looking for the state name, the pine barons, which is supposedly home to a devil,
Starting point is 00:14:22 is a 1.1 million acre ecosystem located in this state. I'd like to go to this place one time. I've never been there. Okay. It's just a devil. Supposedly home to. Not a specific devil. A devil.
Starting point is 00:14:35 I'm not going to go into any further detail on that. You might like it there, Yanni. Devil's in the details. Yeah, I imagine I would Brody, quick to answer Randall quick to answer Yanni quick to answer Seth quick to answer
Starting point is 00:14:52 Those four appear to know it Dane do you have this one right Not sure, but I got an answer Ooh The Pine Barrens Which is supposedly home to a devil Is a 1.1 million acre ecosystem Located on you got a 1 in 50
Starting point is 00:15:05 Right something down That's pretty wrong I know Okay Corey Randall has seen Corey Corey's answer Pretty dang wrong man Okay. Now I'm questioning if my state has...
Starting point is 00:15:17 Can you also look at Dane's answer and tell him if his is pretty wrong or just a little wrong? I'm questioning if my state even has 1.1 million acres in it. So... You get a clue too. He does. Okay. I'm wrong. Randall, how wrong is Dane's answer? He's not nearly as wrong as Corey was.
Starting point is 00:15:35 Can I change my answer? How about nearly is wrong? Brody, how wrong is Marge's answer? Is it on the side of it? Corey, you'd only get wrong. On a scale of distance? Yeah, well, however wrong you think Randall was putting it in on his scale. Corey was considerably wrong.
Starting point is 00:15:51 Okay. His earlier answer. Fairly wrong. It seems like a southern thing. All right. Corey, Marge, Dane, are you changing your answers? It's the southern thing. You got the wrong thing down too.
Starting point is 00:16:01 I know, I know. Is it, though? He says it seems like a southern thing. He wrote down Maine. That was actually a test to Randall. It was. To see if you could get more information. That's not a bad guess, though.
Starting point is 00:16:16 No, it's not. It's actually a good guess. A lot of pines in man. Is everybody ready? A lot of pine. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Set New Jersey, Dane, Kentucky, Janice, New Jersey. Randall, New Jersey, Corey, Florida, Marge, Missouri, Brody, New Jersey.
Starting point is 00:16:34 The correct answer is New Jersey. Isn't that their hockey team? Yeah, the New Jersey Devils. I knew. I didn't know what state. I think I'm the only person in this room that lived in that state. Oh, okay. Have you been to the Pine Barrens?
Starting point is 00:16:48 Nope. Is it John McPhee book about the Pine Barrens? My favorite episode of Sopranos is the Pine Barron's episode. I think it's just called Pine Barron's. Wow. You know what I love so much about that episode, Phil, is how they introduced the big bad Russian fella who never returned. The whole rest of the series, I'm like, okay, he's gonna come back and I'm gonna be the
Starting point is 00:17:07 only one who saw it coming, and then he just never returned. But it's great, it's great storytelling. who's really well done, a lot of fun. Seth, what were you doing in New Jersey? I lived there for like 10 years. Hunting the timber? No. On the timber.
Starting point is 00:17:21 Sneaking. My parents worked for my uncle who owned a pretty big landscaping. Oh, I see. You were there with your family. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, this is when I was real young. Got it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:33 The pine barons cover about a quarter of New Jersey. The wilderness is named after the pitch pine that dominates the landscape and its poor soil that makes farming difficult. The Jersey devil who supposedly calls the forest home was born there in 1735. It said that he was the 13th child of a woman who cursed him. And shortly after birth, he grew wings, a tail, and claws, then flew off into the pine barons. He was frequently seen in 1909 with hundreds of encounters reported to local newspapers. Later that year, the Philadelphia Zoo put out a $10,000 reward for the capture of the Jersey Devil.
Starting point is 00:18:10 I think this was on a Joe Cermelli back in the B-side. I think I animated this now. He probably did that. We're looking at a sketch from the 1900s of the Jersey Devil. It's like a kangaroo slash horse body that's bipedal and then it's got big old devilish wings. Sort of like crane legs. What were those animals that Luke Skywalker Road? Ton Ton Ton.
Starting point is 00:18:34 Ton. Yeah, the profile from the neck up is very similar to Tonton. Without the horn, though. I thought they smelled bad on the outside. Good observations. Now you know everything about the pine barons. And the tail is... Yeah, very strange.
Starting point is 00:18:47 Yeah, it's got like a turkey foot at the end of his tail. Question five, the topic is cooking. The Glantin Gang eats pronghorn bone marrow in this author's novel, Blood Meridian. The Glantin Gang eats pronghorn bone marrow in this author's novel, Blood Meridian. The publishing game. boys, Brody and Randall, real quick to answer. Yeah, more of that book shit. The rest of the room has blank light.
Starting point is 00:19:19 You gotta be a publishing guy to know this one. Yeah, this, but this one, it's not really, I think you put it under cooking. Yeah, it's cooking. They eat pronghorn bone marrow. Oh, no. Which is like... But really, the trivia is like, do you know who wrote, Piedridian? Yeah, welcome to meat eater trivia.
Starting point is 00:19:38 Yeah. Do you know who wrote a pronghorn? Yes, but it's like just doesn't want to just hit my... Arguably one of the finest novels in American literature. Okay, there's a hint, and I agree with you. The Glantin Gang, it's pronghorned bone marrow in this author's novel, Blood Meridian. You'd also know this if you'd listen to the most recent episode of the American West, where we'd discuss our favorite Western...
Starting point is 00:20:03 I didn't know that. Okay, good plug. And this was a choice by you? I think Dan choked this. Brody and Randall. still the only players with an answer. Nah, really? Yo-huh.
Starting point is 00:20:21 I know it. It is... Pretty sure this book's sitting on my bookshelf. Uh-oh. Yanni is threatening his whiteboard right now. Yanni joining Randall and Brody with an answer. Is it correct? I can see what his last letter was.
Starting point is 00:20:42 Okay. I was trying to watch, and I thought he had the first name right? Did I get the first two letters right there, buddy? Oh, more than the first two. The Glantin game. I thought you had it there. It's pronghorn, bone marrow, and this author's novel,
Starting point is 00:20:59 Blood Mariet. Too many hints in this episode. There are a lot of animal. Oh, come on, Randall, we're just having fun. Yeah. Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says, Cormick McCarthy.
Starting point is 00:21:12 Dane, without an answer, Yanni and Randall say, Cormick McCarthy. Corey says, McLeod, Marge without an answer, Brody, Cormick McCarthy. The correct answer is Cormick McCarthy. Oh, that's what I call him. Blood Meridian, which came out in 1985, is widely considered McCarthy's magnum opus.
Starting point is 00:21:34 The book has often been called unfilmable, with multiple Hollywood teams taking on the project and walking away. Directors have said the biggest challenges are the graphic violence and lack of traditional narrative, but Cormick McCarthy gave John Hillcote his blessing before passing in 2023, and it said that Hillcoat is working on the script now. The latest update is that they are scouting for film locations and testing practical effects.
Starting point is 00:22:00 Wow. That would be a wildly challenging movie. Who's John Hillcoat? I don't know. I was counting on Phil to be like, oh, John Hillcote. He does really bad things. No, nothing from that. I was trying to make a name out of his first and last name, and my brain just kept saying,
Starting point is 00:22:16 McCormick. I'm like, it's not McCormick. That's the spice brand. All right, now it's time for our Can-Am question of the week. Thanks to Can-Am, you get some bonus trivia in this week's episode. This does not count towards your score. It's just for bragging rights. Here's the question. The topic is gear.
Starting point is 00:22:34 This seven-letter word is a piece of gear that lets swimmers breathe air and an ATV accessory that allows vehicles to be semi-submerced without taking water to the engine. It's like John Hilko directed the road, so he's already in the canon. He knows it,
Starting point is 00:22:53 well. But was that movie very good? Not really, right? I saw it in theaters and I haven't seen it since.
Starting point is 00:22:59 The book was a lot better. Yeah, I feel like the road didn't he have any lasting impact, right? That's Vigo. Is that right?
Starting point is 00:23:06 Yeah. Vigo, yeah. This Vigo? This seven-letter word is a piece of gear that lets swimmers breathe air and an ATV accessory
Starting point is 00:23:15 that allows vehicles to be semi-submerced without taking water to the engine. Is everybody ready to reveal your Can-Am answers of the week? Donnie's ready. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth and Dane and Yanni and Randall and Corey and Marge say, Snorkel. Do we make this one count?
Starting point is 00:23:34 Without an answer. The correct answer. It's like instant. I didn't have time. It is snorkel. You got to be quick on that question of the week. That was our Can-Am question of the week. Can-Am, Unstoppable.
Starting point is 00:23:44 All right, Phil, we're halfway through today. game. Give us a scoreboard update. Here at halftime. We've got a widespread here. We've got Dane and Maggie with one point piece. Corey's got three, Randallus 4, and we have three perfect games.
Starting point is 00:24:01 Wow. Jeez. Between Seth, Janus, and Brody. Five points. The new Red Bull, Dragonberry and Tropicberry energizers now at McDonald's made with freeze-dried fruit and an electric burst of flavor.
Starting point is 00:24:16 The all-new Red Bull Energizers. Now at McDonald's. This product may not be right for you. High in caffeine, details on McDonald's.C.A. at participating Canadian restaurants excluding Quebec. Hey, everyone. Big huge announcement. Starting point is 00:25:46 Question six. The topic is fishing. This next great question is via Sam Taylor. This is America's third longest river, which is named after a Canadian territory. This is America's third longest river, which is named after a Canadian territory. Randall already has his answer. Now, Seth, Corey, do you have this one right? Man, let's hope so. Seth is this going to keep the perfect game going? I hope so. We'll see.
Starting point is 00:26:26 I hope not. We might have tripped up Brody with that snorkel question. I know. I know. No, he's back in it. Whiteboard is down. This is America's third longest river, which is named after a Canadian territory.
Starting point is 00:26:40 This is question six. I hate it when I'm in this position. I have to root against everybody. You don't have to root against everybody. No, I'm compelled. root against, not everybody. You're fine. Yeah. Randall still roots for me and Phil.
Starting point is 00:26:58 Yeah. Yanni, do you have this one right? No, I don't not have an answer yet. America's third longest river, which is named after a Canadian territory. And America stands for the United States of America. That's right. It's a close read. I know the first two longest rivers.
Starting point is 00:27:21 Okay. The third one I don't. Yanni, do you give up? No, I'm going to write something down if you force me. All right, yeah, we're going to force you and Dane. You Dane and Marge. We're forcing you now.
Starting point is 00:27:37 If I start to force you now, though, we've got 27 minutes till Corey's appointment. Meeting. I didn't want to make it sound like a medical thing. Nothing's wrong with you. I got to talk about mules. Oh, geez. I'm going to start calling all my meetings appointments.
Starting point is 00:27:53 Yeah. It's good. America's third longest river. Dane, Marge, are you ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says, Yukon, Dane, Mississippi, Yanni, Quebec, Randall, Yukon, Corey, Columbia, Marge, Ontario, Brody, Yukon. The correct answer is the Yukon River.
Starting point is 00:28:20 I literally had Yukon. It's a hell of a vehicle, too. The Yukon River is just shy of 2,000 miles long. making it about 300 miles shorter than the Mississippi and 100 miles longer than the Rio Grande. It is home to the world's longest salmon migration. The Yukon River Kings will spend three months traveling 30 miles a day into their spawning grounds every summer. Question seven, the topic is gear. This next great question is via A.J. Coolish.
Starting point is 00:28:52 This brand, which is known for its rugged drinkwear, has a winged bear for its logo. This brand, which is known for its rugged drinkwear, has a winged bear for its logo. Marge, you got this one right. I think so. Okay. Corey, you got this one right. God, I hope so. I think so.
Starting point is 00:29:16 I'm wrong. Marge has her keychain with her today, and it looks as though she killed a janitor. Before she came into the studio, there is a cardboard. Or a contractor, yeah. A tape measure on there. Yep. How many, like five keys, some key chains. A carabiner, I think is the thing that grabs my eye.
Starting point is 00:29:35 A carabiner that could winch a vehicle out of a ditch if it needed to. Because I'm getting into climbing, Spencer. This brand, which is known for its rugged drinkwear, has a winged bear for its logo. This is question seven. We have three perfect games that are currently in danger. Oh, no, Janus lost his perfect game, the last question. No, bear. Between Seth and Brody now.
Starting point is 00:30:01 Oh, yeah, Randah got question one wrong. That's right. Yeah, I remember. Sea trout. Stupid, stupid, stupid. This brand, which is known for its rugged drinkwear. A winged bear for its logo. I got three answers. Okay.
Starting point is 00:30:20 I was just thinking about the northern tier of five. I just didn't think far enough way. Randall, how many answers do you have? but I'm like, I don't know a river named the Yukon. Wrong. Oh, God, I don't. I wrote it down. Wrong.
Starting point is 00:30:36 It's like, it's not Northwest. Brody, do you have your answer? I guess. Randall, do you have your answer? I suppose so. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth and Dane and Yanni and Randall and Corey and Marge and Brody say Stanley. They got it.
Starting point is 00:30:55 That's a 100%er, the correct answer. is Stanley. Stanley was founded by William Stanley in 1913 when he patented the first all-steel vacuum insulated bottle. Their quencher Tumblr has been one of the trendiest products of the 2020s, almost exclusively thanks to the Mug's popularity, Stanley went from making $73 million dollars per year in 2019 to $750 million per year in 2023, a 10x increase. You know it all, a bunch of eighth grade girls, I feel like.
Starting point is 00:31:29 We got to do that. We should come up with the next drinkware of 2027. Soccer moms too. Yeah. Yeah. Gosh. The old school Stanley Thermis is just the best thing ever. That thing needs to be with a 30-30 on a hunt.
Starting point is 00:31:44 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The topic is natural history. Unberry is a synonym for this six-letter word that's defined as, quote, to dig up a dead body from the ground. Randall had his answer before I finished the question. Unberry is a synonym for this six-letter word that's defined as
Starting point is 00:32:07 to dig up a dead body from the ground. Yeah, this one's right in my Q zone. Okay. That's a writer right there. Kind of landed right in my sweet spot. This is a 10x bullseye. No, no, not the writing aspect of it. Oh, the necrophilia?
Starting point is 00:32:22 Yeah. Yeah. Didn't say anything about that. Phelia. Grave robbing, man. Oh, sorry. Excuse me. Unberry is a synonym for this sixth letter word that's defined as to dig up a dead body from the ground.
Starting point is 00:32:38 Stitting there on the tip of the top. Phil just went straight to assumptions. Yeah. What category was? My haircut looks fine. The topic is natural history. Oh, right, right. Plays an important role in natural history.
Starting point is 00:32:52 Yeah, Phil. I think one of the things that I appreciated most about your performance of Christmas Carol was the grave robbers. I forgot that that was part of the plot. Oh, yeah. Unbury. Victorian grave robbing is just great. It's a synonym for this sixth letter word that's defined as to dig up a dead body from the ground. That's why Randall's plaid.
Starting point is 00:33:13 That's why Randall is so haunted. It's from all his grave digging, not the gun ownerships. No, it's probably some strange combination. of those unnamed hobbies because you're not pure of heart. Unberry.
Starting point is 00:33:28 Unberry is a synonym for this six-letter word that's defined as to dig up a dead body from the ground. Randall the only player with an answer. Unberry sounds like
Starting point is 00:33:38 it could be a cool brand name too. Or like a town name. Yeah. Oh, okay. Unbury, New Jersey. Unbury, Pennsylvania. Yeah. The sheriff of Bunbury.
Starting point is 00:33:50 Yanni is your answer right? I believe it is. Okay. Dang it. Brody is your answer right. I can't, it's just sitting there and it's not going to come. Uh-oh. This is really going to shake things up. It will. And we're going to get a scoreboard update.
Starting point is 00:34:04 I'm just going to change my spelling. Okay. Why? It doesn't matter. I don't know if this is a word. I just got a flash of Yanni's board and I still can't come up with it. Okay. Is everybody ready?
Starting point is 00:34:17 We're just talking synonyms. I got to go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth without an Answer, Dane, resurrect, Yanni, exhum, Randall, exhum, Corey, remove. Marge, exhum, probably without an answer. The correct answer is, exhum, that is spelled E-X-H-U-M-E. Yanni threw a G in there, which is just, uh, do I get it? Yeah, Marge gets it right.
Starting point is 00:34:46 E-X, H-U-M-E. I'm scarred from. Exhuming helps scientists learn more about past, life, including ancient diseases, diets, and lifestyles. Sometimes it's done specifically to re-evaluate someone's cause of death, like when Maryweather Lewis was exhumed in 1848 to determine if he died via suicide or murder. Phil, two questions left. Give us a scoreboard update.
Starting point is 00:35:10 Seth was right. Really did shake things up here. Dane, two points. Maggie, three points. Corey, four points at a four-way tie in first place between Seth, Yonis. Brody and Randall, they all have seven points. Coming back from the dead. We have been in an overtime trial.
Starting point is 00:35:28 Resurrection. The question just exhumed my chances of victory today. Question nine, the topic is public lands. Crowds gather at Indiana Dunes National Park to watch the sunset behind this city's skyline that lies 35 miles to the west. Randall had his answer before I finished the question. Brody now joins him. Yanni now joins him.
Starting point is 00:35:56 Crowds gather at Indiana Dunes National Park to watch the sunset behind this city's skyline that lies 35 miles to the west. Corey, do you have this one right? Probably not. Seth, do you have this one right? I just threw down a city that I know is there. I grew up not far from here and I didn't know that this was a thing. And we will have a picture after this.
Starting point is 00:36:20 Specifically, do you know that that city is 35 miles to the west? Nope. We will look at a photo of this afterwards. This is question nine. Seth needs to get this right to keep pace with Brody, Randall and Johnny. Actually, I don't know where Indiana Dunes National Park is.
Starting point is 00:36:37 Okay. But you know that the city's there. I was going off of Indiana. All right. Same. Is everybody ready? Hold on. Dane making a quick change.
Starting point is 00:36:53 Crowds gather at Indiana. Hey, where are you from? Dunes National Park. Yeah, but you threw me off and then you threw me off. Hmm. Hmm. Who. Twisted tail, we're weaving here.
Starting point is 00:37:07 Hopefully I threw you in the right direction, because that's what I have now. Perfect. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth and Dane say Indianapolis. Yanni and Randall say Chicago. Corey, Indianapolis, Marge without an answer. Brody, Chicago. The correct answer.
Starting point is 00:37:24 is Chicago. Indiana Dunes National Park is located just east of Gary, and on a clear day, you can see Chicago skyscrapers from across Lake Michigan. The best time to visit for the iconic sunset is between mid-May and late July, when the sun drops directly behind the city. Indiana Dunes became a national lakeshore in 1966, then was redesignated as a national park in 2019. and there is a photo of a sunset behind Chicago if you're standing at the Indiana Dunes.
Starting point is 00:38:00 The old windy city. The city of big shoulders. There's like one day a year. The second city. What do you got in? There's one day a year, I believe, in New York, where the sun perfectly sets down. I don't know what road it is, but it's like perfect. That's what I at first.
Starting point is 00:38:20 Nield de Gras Tyson has taken credit for finding that in making it. thing and now people will go and watch that every year and it happens i don't remember what it's called like the new york city equinox or whatever yeah uh here's a correct answer review so far one was spotted sea trout two russia three gutless four new jersey five kormick mccarthy six yukon river seven stanley eight exume nine chicago phil scoreboard update Steph tripped up, but he's still in the running with seven points. However, Janus Brody and Randler now tied up in first with eight. Question 10, the topic is conservation.
Starting point is 00:38:59 No. Damn. A UK plant conservation group started this three-word movement in 2019 as a way to temporarily support pollinators and reduce water usage in your backyard. Three-word moves. This is the final question. and the room looks stumped. A UK conservation group started this three-word movement in 2019 as a way to temporarily support pollinators
Starting point is 00:39:31 and reduce water usage in your backyard. So your answer is that three-word movement. Still seven blank whiteboards. Is it... Is it a literative? Is it a little bit of a hint? Seth. Does it build back?
Starting point is 00:39:49 better in second place. She'll shovel shut up. Clean drain dry. Do you have this one right, Seth? I have no clue. Just, first thing it popped in my head that kind of made sense. A UK plant conservation group started this three-word movement in
Starting point is 00:40:05 2019 as a way to temporarily support pollinators and reduce water usage in your backyard. If Seth can get this right, and Yanni, Randall and Brody can get this one wrong. We will have a four-way tie-break but Yanni just confidently put down his whiteboard.
Starting point is 00:40:23 Yanni, do you have this one right? I have very educated yes. Okay. Now Randall's body language has changed. Yeah. He's shaking. He'll turn red here anymore. Yeah, I can feel it now.
Starting point is 00:40:39 Brody, do you have this one right? I don't think so. Okay. I know the area I need to be in. I think I have two out of the three words. Wow, all right. A UK plant conservation group started this three-word movement in 2019 as a way to temporarily support pollinators and reduce water usage in your backyard. Corey, you have this one right.
Starting point is 00:41:01 Man, I got a really good guess. Okay. Oh, geez. Corey seems the most confident. Oh. I have no. I need this one. I have not the foggiest idea.
Starting point is 00:41:10 Okay. You don't need anything. Randall needs to hope that Yonnie. Yeah. I hope everybody gets it wrong. Oh, Randall. Let's go out and get a hot dog after this. Let's do it.
Starting point is 00:41:25 I had two yesterday. I got to hear about Austria. Osterike? Randall is now doing some writing. Are you ready, Randall? Yes. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says water at night.
Starting point is 00:41:39 Dane without an answer. Yanni, no, may, Mo. Randall. No. No! Oh! Yanni says no-may-mo. You know what I meant.
Starting point is 00:41:49 Randall says, on to overtime. It was a question mark. Corey, no-mo-may. Marge, no-mo, slow grow. Brody, slow the mo. The correct answer is no-mo-may. Now, what do we do with Yonis? It'd be more fun if we didn't give it to him.
Starting point is 00:42:09 Give Yonis the win. I don't know how that happened. Again, the answer is no-mo-may. Yanni has no ma-mo. This would be a really liberal application of our spelling doesn't count policy. Yeah. I think we should do whatever Randall says. He takes his game so seriously.
Starting point is 00:42:30 Well, Brody did give him the point. Don't put that on me. What do you think of that, Randall? I think it's funny that he got the words backwards. It is weird. It's very weird. It's not the name of the movement. It's not.
Starting point is 00:42:43 Listen, we can go. Phil against me. We haven't been to overtime in so long. Don't give it to me. Corey's the only one who got it right. Corey, what do you think? Let's go to overtime. Okay, we're going to overtime.
Starting point is 00:42:56 It is no-mo-may. The no-mo-may movement quickly spread to North America, with some iterations being slow-mo summer or low-mo spring. More than 30 U.S. cities have adopted a version of the program, encouraging homeowners to let their government. grass grow. No MoMA provides more food and habitat for pollinators, creates stronger root systems,
Starting point is 00:43:20 reduces water usage, and cuts down on air and noise pollution. Plus, it means less chores. Plus, it makes your HOA really mad. There you go. All right, we're headed to overtime. Play the drop, Phil. I hope you win it. Thank you, Randall.
Starting point is 00:43:36 In overtime, we have a numerical question. Whoever is closest between Randall, Yanni, and Brody will be declared today's winner. But the rest of the room is going to play along as well because if somebody gets it right on the nose, media will add an extra $100 to today's donation. Anyone mark up this newly stained table today?
Starting point is 00:43:55 It hasn't happened yet. All right, the overtime topic is fishing. How many pages is the average state's fishing regulations handbook? Yeah. I got this number by checking 10 different states. And if they had the regulation, broken up by freshwater and salt water I did not use them.
Starting point is 00:44:15 How many pages is the average state fishing regulations handbook? So you went off the states that I used 10 states. Mostly don't have an ocean? There are some states that have their regulations in one if they have a saltwater fishery, but if they split them up into two,
Starting point is 00:44:37 I did not include them for the purpose of this. Numbers, not my strong suit. How many pages? is the average state's fishing regulations handbook. Randomly guessing the numbers of handbooks I haven't seen is not my strong suit, so we're on even territory here. Corey, I was confident you would get that last one because you do no-mo-May.
Starting point is 00:44:59 I do no-mo July, no-mow August, no-mo September. Good for you. I think I only mow in June, honestly. Hey, Corey is lots of mowing June. Big pollinator guy. No, we just don't have water. to make our grass grow. Is everybody ready?
Starting point is 00:45:16 We don't have soil. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says 65. Dane, 67. Yanni, 55. Oh, Randall, 58. We're so close. Corey 98, Marge 47, Brody, 39.
Starting point is 00:45:35 Whoa. Our players left Brody, Randall, Yanni. The correct answer is 72 making Randall. The winner, he was 14 pages off, but I think Dane is the closest in the room. He was five pages off. 72 pages. Of the states, I checked, Arkansas had the biggest handbook at 96 pages, and Kentucky had the smallest handbook at 40 pages.
Starting point is 00:46:01 Utah was dead nuts on the average at 72 pages. Randall, today's being a winner, what are you going to do with that $500 donation? Let's send that to the theater. Roosevelt Conservation Partnership is obviously a lot in the headlines of late regarding federal public land policy decisions that sportsmen and women need a voice in D.C. who are sticking up for wild places and wild animals. So send it TRCP's way. And do you feel good about this victory after no? No, I don't. It's actually a cheap and, well, no, I think I'll take it. I'll take it. Yeah. I'll take it. Yeah. Join us.
Starting point is 00:46:44 next week for more meat eater trivia. The only game show where conservation always wins. Thanks, Spencer. Yeah, Spencer from South Dakota. He's the host. Using those smooth, mellow tones, he lays them questions down. And he likes taking those two- and three-year-old bucks. And he's an avid, amateur.
Starting point is 00:47:15 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human.
