Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. When you're in the bush, splitting up is often part of the plan. Maybe you're covering opposite sides of a cut block, working through thick cover, or heading into different directions from camp. Anex hunts location sharing makes that easy.
Starting point is 00:00:18 Up to 10 people can see each other's live positions on the same map, refreshing about every five seconds. Split up and focus on the hunt, and when it's time to check in, just look at the map instead of waiting on a text reply. It's fully opt-in in session-based,
Starting point is 00:00:34 and the location data disappears the moment the session ends. Available now to premium and elite members in Canada. Get your group connected with location sharing in the OnX Hunt app download today from your app store. The long loading times. The glitchy video calls. That's your house asking for better internet.

Starting point is 00:01:35 Me Deeder will donate $500 to the conservation organization of the winner's choosing. I'm your host, Spencer Newarth, and today we're joined by Brody, Randall, Seth, Riva, Alyssa, and Dane. This is a 10 round quiz show with questions from meat eaters for verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking. Me Deeder trivia is brought to you by one of my favorite beers. Bush Light. Bush Light, head for the mountains.
Starting point is 00:01:58 All right, we're starting today's episode of the mailbag question. If you have a question, you want the crew to answer, then send your question with the subjectline mailbag to trivia at the meat eater. com before the show are contestants today. They deemed this to be an easy one. So here it is. M. He says, I recently married into a family that is very hunting oriented and has land my wife has hunted for over a decade. However, I have never killed a deer and this will be my first time hunting bigger game. My question for the crew is if I get a chance to harvest a trophy buck on my father-in-law's land, should I take the shot or is it more respectful of his generosity to pass and target a smaller buck or dough instead? I think you should just talk to the father-in-law and be like, listen, what, what do you, you know, maybe he has management goals on the property. Maybe you just be like, hey, what, what do you, what would you be comfortable with me shooting here?
Starting point is 00:02:59 That's, that's the right answer. What else do we have for Sam? Yeah, I would find out, I'd find out the lay of the land and the general expectations. But if he said, you know, shoot what you see, I wouldn't hesitate. My guess is the father-in-law is not going to be like, listen here, Sam, we got a hundred seventy-inch white tail living out there. You cannot shoot him. I don't think that's going to happen, Sam. But as those guys said, you should just talk to him ahead of time, be like, hey, what are, what am I okay to shoot out here?
Starting point is 00:03:28 And I bet, I bet since this is your first year, he's going to be like, shoot whatever makes you happy. Yeah, if you get the okay, if you get the okay, don't play games with yourself and try to talk yourself out of it, thinking that your father-in-law is going to sit you down 10 years down the road and, say, you know, I really respected how you let that big buck pass when he first started hunting here. Uh-huh. And then the neighbor shot it. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. I take the, take, yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:51 Maybe this is a power trip. Like, it's a test. Yeah. Because he's getting tested. Okay. But I would tell him, if it's his first deer, like, don't go in there with overly high expectations. Like, get your first deer. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:06 Yeah. Sounds very confident that he's, like, that's the first thing he's going to see. And that's, like, it. shoot the first buck that you would be happy with. Yeah. That's, that's, uh,
Starting point is 00:04:16 maybe it's like Pike County, Illinois or something. Maybe he lives in the golden triangle. And maybe there's 180 inch deer behind every tree. Uh, you're going to learn a lot, Sam just talking to your father-in-law. And I bet he's a good father-in-law and he's going to be like Sam,
Starting point is 00:04:29 you shoot whatever makes you happy. But also, you should know, Sam that there's a, you know, 175 inch like six by six out there. That's what he's going to tell you. And then he's going to put you in that stand to kill that one.
Starting point is 00:04:39 If he's a terrible father-in-law and you feel like this could be the only, the only opportunity to hunt this property, I would shoot the big one. If you're fixing to get divorced already, Sam, shoot the whopper. Yeah. Any other advice for Sam? Have fun.
Starting point is 00:04:54 Good luck. You got this, Sam. Where your safety arms. All right, for housekeeping today, we have a very exciting new podcast to tell you about it is called Gunfighters. And episode one is out right now. Riva has been working closely on this project.
Starting point is 00:05:09 Reva, tell folks about gunfighters. Yeah, fans of the show might be familiar with the episode, The Gunfighters, that Steve did when he interviewed Brian Burrow, the author. And then now we created a whole podcast series around it. So if you're familiar with that episode or his book, The Gunfighters, he covers a lot of stories from in there and also stuff that's not covered in there. Okay. Weekly drop, I assume. Yep. On Tuesdays, right?
Starting point is 00:05:38 Yep. Episode one is out right now if you're listening to this on the day that trivia drops. It is. You can find it anywhere you listen to or watch podcasts. Called Gun Fighters. Here's another reason you should go listen to this. It's going to be a great podcast. You're going to love it.
Starting point is 00:05:54 But also, if it does really well, then we get to do more episodes. And that means that me and Randall and Phil get to do more voice acting, which I think we all came to realize was our actual calling. Yeah. Yeah. Lots of Easter eggs in there. It was the most fun day I've had in the office, I think, this year. I wish I could remember the character that I played. Randall was supposed to be Wild Bill.
Starting point is 00:06:16 And then I said, hey, Randall, I've got a Wild Bill tattoo. Can I pretty, pretty please be Wild Bill? Yeah, I got to be Wild Bill. I remembered that, and then I couldn't remember if you actually got your way or not. Yeah, I did. Okay. So, Gunfighters, Episode 1. Scratch Wild Bill off the list of possible characters I played.
Starting point is 00:06:34 Out right now. All right, the Shelby Index for today is a four and a half. So our winner should get nine correct answers. And with that, we're on to the game of trivia. Play the drop, Phil. Look, I need to know what I stand to win. Everything. How's that?
Starting point is 00:06:52 Just tend to win everything. Question one, the topic is fishing, and this will be multiple choice. Which of these world records is biggest? Meanmouth bass. rock bass white bass spotted bass you've got four bass to choose from which of those world records is the biggest a mean mouth bass a rock bass a white bass or a spotted bass
Starting point is 00:07:30 which is biggest mean mouth rock white spotted spotted a lot of guesses happening in here even Seth who was the quickest to answer took him a while which of these world records is biggest. Mean-mouth bass, rock bass, white bass, spotted bass. Seth, do you agree with Randall?
Starting point is 00:07:55 I do. Okay. Nice. I bet that makes Randall feel nice. That's the only person in this room to whom I was looking for approval on that answer. That's great.
Starting point is 00:08:04 Is everybody ready? It's kind of torn between two. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says, Mean-mouth, Randall. Mean-mouth. Riva, mean-mouth. Dane, rock bass, Alyssa's spotted bass, Brody, mean-mouth bass.
Starting point is 00:08:21 The correct answer is the mean-mouth bass. A mean-mouth is a hybrid between a small-mouth and large-mouth or spotted bass. The world record was caught in Oklahoma and weighed eight and a half pounds. The world-record white bass is seven pounds. The world-record rock bass is three pounds. And the world-record spotted bass is two and a half pounds. It's one that man-made fish that Spencer loves. So much.
Starting point is 00:08:46 Man, I respect those, those hatchery bellies out there. Sorry, I wasn't listening to any of that. It was mean-mouth. It was mean-in-law. What was the world record spot? Only two and a half. They just don't get very big. Man, I thought it would be bigger than that.
Starting point is 00:08:58 Tiny little things. Question two, the topic is hunting. That's cool fish. This next great question is via Luca Bedinelli. Name two of the three states with the most blacktailed deer. Great question here from Luca. named two of the three states with the most black tail deer
Starting point is 00:09:20 Alyssa staring at a blank white board just hoping that they just appear Seth you got this one right I don't know Name two of the three states with the most black tails Randall and Brody still writing It's tricky Randall could you just get all three if you had to
Starting point is 00:09:52 No. No. I'm not sure of my two. Okay. I'm a wreck right now. I'm pretty sure I have one. If I had to name the top four states, I can do that. Yeah. Yeah, I could do that too. Looking for two of the top three with the most black tail. I'm uncertainly confident on this one. Okay. Wow. Uncertainly confident. Randall and Seth doing some comparing. No, Seth is declined. Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says Alaska, Washington.
Starting point is 00:10:31 Randall, Alaska, California. Riva, South Dakota, Wyoming. Dane, Washington, Alaska. Alyssa, New Mexico, Washington. Brody, Alaska, California. The three states are Alaska, Oregon, and California. I think we only had two or three players. Was you Alaska, Alaska, Oregon, California.
Starting point is 00:10:59 Washington has to be four. They are four. Alaska has the most black tails in the country with an estimated population of 330,000. That's followed by Oregon at 300,000. California at 250,000, Washington at 100,000, and Hawaii at 1,000. A few dozen black tails were introduced to Hawaii for hunting in the 19, and their herd has been growing ever since. So Hawaii, a surprise fifth state.
Starting point is 00:11:28 Question three, the topic is conservation. Journalist Lisa Song and Elizabeth McGowan won this type of prestigious award in 2013 for their expose on the most costly onshore oil spill in U.S. history. Brody, quick to answer, journalists Lisa Song and Elizabeth McGowan won this. this type of prestigious award in 2013 for their expose on the most costly onshore oil spill in U.S. history. Randall, do you have this one right? I have a prestigious award. Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:12 Brody looks like he does as well. And we have four blank whiteboards in the room. Journalist Lisa Song and Elizabeth McGowan won this type of prestigious award in 2013 for their expose on the most costly onshore oil spill in U.S. history. Randall in a different seat today.
Starting point is 00:12:36 See how that plays out? Yes. I needed to change something up. Who are you texting over there? Nothing. He's been texting. He's been whispering sweet nothings to Seth over here. He's been doodling on his whiteboard. If there's a man further removed from
Starting point is 00:12:52 the trivia game, I haven't seen him. Honestly, other than the reaction in the room, I had no idea what the answer to number one was. I didn't listen to a word of it when you read the answer. Hope you lose. I think maybe this is good. I think maybe I just need to be more
Starting point is 00:13:10 removed. Journalist Lisa Song and Elizabeth McGowan won this type of prestigious award in 2013 for their expose on the most costly onshore oil spill in U.S.
Starting point is 00:13:26 history. It's everybody ready. Riva. Okay, Riva's making a quick change. I just made some hope. I think. We'll give him this award if it doesn't exist. I bet it's a good award. Riva, are you ready? Yeah. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says Environmental Impact Award. Randall says Pulitzer Prize. Riva, Mark Twain Award. Dane, World Journalism Award, Alyssa, Emmy, Brody, Pulitzer, the correct answer is a Pulitzer Prize. That makes more sense. Randall and Brody, got that right. There are 15 Pulitzer Prizes given out each year that honor outstanding journalism work.
Starting point is 00:14:14 Lisa Song and Elizabeth McGowan won theirs for reporting on the Dilbit disaster, which they called, quote, the biggest oil spill you've never heard of. It happened in 2010 in Michigan's Kalamazoo River, which had millions of gallons of tar sands oil dumped into it. The disaster was shockingly underreported as national attention was focused on the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill that occurred just a few months prior. That is how they got their pollets are covering the Kalamazoo River
Starting point is 00:14:44 oil spill of 2010. Again, the most costly onshore oil spill in U.S. history. Round to question four. The topic is gear. This 10-letter word is defined. as quote, a small tool used by hunters to track air currents. It's not a smartphone. And that's a 10-letter word, but that's not what we're looking for.
Starting point is 00:15:11 This 10-letter word is defined as a small tool used by hunters to track air currents. Brody and Randall have locked in their answers. Brody, do you have this small tool? Maybe. Okay. Randall, do you have this small tool? tool? Nope.
Starting point is 00:15:34 Okay. Ten letter word is defined as a small tool used by hunters to track air currents. We used it a lot in Austria. Oh. Okay. Most attention I've paid to. I'd love to hear more about that. If it is what I'm thinking of, of course.
Starting point is 00:15:52 Yeah. Seth, did you come up with the correct answer? Do you own this tool? If it is what I put down? If it is what I put down, yes. Okay. I don't know if you've ever seen the highlight, Randall, when Tiger Woods was like back in the 90s golfing and his caddy to see the air currents would blow a puff of cigarette smoke into the air. And he'd sit there and watch and they'd say, Tiger, look.
Starting point is 00:16:21 Yeah, that's the, that's the old school, El Conner's way of tracking. Randall still does that. Yeah. I thought that's what you would tell us you guys did in Austria. No, we could have. That would have been fun. That would have been fun. 10-letter word is defined as a small tool used by hunters to track air currents.
Starting point is 00:16:41 Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says Windicator, Randall, Winddicator. Riva, wind cluster. Wind-duster. Dane says wind checker. Alyssa without an answer, Brody, Winddicator. The correct answer is the 10-letter Windicator.
Starting point is 00:17:03 I have never known it's called a Windicator. Now you got it. Is this the windchacker thing? I know. Windicators come in many shapes and forms. The most common is a small squeeze bottle that's filled with an odorless telcom powder. Some newer windicators are electronic and produce a puff of white smoke. And a favorite for Midwestern white tail hunters is a zipper filled with strands of milkweed.
Starting point is 00:17:28 The electronic ones that produce white smoke, is that just a vape pen? I mean, which cigarette brand works the best? Like Marlboro Reds or? Palm all. That'd be a good test, Randall. Future YouTube video, Randall test, which cigarette makes the best wind decators. An American spirit? We used a lot of gold vindicators when we were hunting a rodeeer.
Starting point is 00:17:48 And the other thing that they did, which was cool, they had, like in the blinds, they had a string tied to a golf ball with a feather tied halfway. Wow. And so the feather would pivot around with the direction of the wind. Isn't that a thing that like some long distance shooters will do is tie a little bit of ribbon on their scope that they can see? No, not on your scope. I mean, on some ranges, they'll have ribbons at different distances. So you can see what the wind is doing throughout the trajectory of the bullet.
Starting point is 00:18:16 Wind decatur. Question five, the topic is cooking. This next great question is via Carter Ollman. Lindsay Lohan eagerly tells her future stepmom that trout will be served for breakfast and dinner while on a camping trip in this 1998 film. Phil, would you get this one right? This might be one of the only ones I would get right at this game. Lindsay Lohan eagerly tells her future stepmom that Trout will be served for breakfast and dinner.
Starting point is 00:18:50 I don't know why, but I think I do. While on a camping trip in this 1998 film. I have never seen a movie with Lindsay Lohan in it to be clear. Mean girls? I think I've got it. Okay. I guess that's not the answer then. Lindsay Lohe
Starting point is 00:19:09 eagerly tells her future stepmom that trout will be served for breakfast and dinner while on a camping trip in this 1998 film. The stepmom does not like that answer. That's why Lindsay is so excited to say. My gosh, what is it called? Carter, who wrote in with this question, said a lot of girl dads.
Starting point is 00:19:31 We'll get this one right. Do you know this one, Alyssa? No, I do not. Alyssa, do you think, or excuse me, Riva, do you think you know this one? I could tell you the entire plot. Wow. Okay. And I tell you the title?
Starting point is 00:19:48 Not at this moment. You weren't here last week or whenever, when Randall just blurted out the answer in the middle of the show. That was a price. How did we handle that? Phil, did that get bleeped? No, I didn't bleep that or the four-letter word that I said in the immediate aftermath. It was too funny.
Starting point is 00:20:05 Come on. Lindsay Lohan eagerly tells her future stepmom that trout will be served for breakfast and dinner while on a camping trip in this 1998 film. This is question five. We have two Mountain Dew questions of the week after this, and then we'll get a scoreboard update from Phil the engineer. Riva, do you give up? I don't want to give up. Okay. Randall, do you give up?
Starting point is 00:20:32 Does everybody else have an answer? It's a remake. Oh, wow. Okay. There's an old version. There's some hints. Randall knows his movies. Randall intimately knows
Starting point is 00:20:43 high stakes here. Lindsay Lohan's filmography. So you may have just given it to him. No, he's stumped. Okay. Randall, I think... You know, Seth, I like that hat a lot.
Starting point is 00:20:57 Is that Casey Underwood? That's a good one. Oh, yeah, it's Casey Underwood. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says... Parent trap. Randall and Riva without an answer. Dane says cheaper by the dozen, too.
Starting point is 00:21:12 Alyssa says parent trap. Brody says Freaky Friday. The correct answer is the parent trip. Dang it. And Lisa has set. Well, we know what movie Brody likes. Is she a twin in that movie? She is a twin.
Starting point is 00:21:28 That's all I could think about. She's her own twin. I was thinking of sister-sister. Wait, what was the only? actress's name? They're both played by Lindsay Lohan. She plays both of the girls. I know, but who's the other act?
Starting point is 00:21:39 And Freaky Friday? No, no. No, that's Jamie Curtis. Dennis Quaid is in parent trap. No, I'm saying, who are the two that you just said in the question? Lindsay Lohan. And the stepmom. Lindsay Lohan eagerly tells her future stepmom.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Who plays her future stepmom? I thought you said the stepmom's name. Forget it. Well, Natasha Richardson plays her real mom. I don't remember who plays the stepmom. The twin sisters who are both played by Lindsay Lohan spend a camping trip pranking their dad's fiance in an effort to get her to call off the engagement. The twins put a lizard in her hair, replace her bug spray with sugar water, put rocks in her backpack,
Starting point is 00:22:18 and finally drag her air mattress into the lake while she's sleeping on it. This antic works, which gets Meredith to give her fiancée an ultimatum. It's either her or the twins. And we're looking at the movie poster here. We are seeing Dennis Quaid kiss his ex-wife, not his fiancé on the movie poster. So if you're wondering how it ends. It's kind of a spoiler. I mean, a big spoiler from the movie poster.
Starting point is 00:22:45 I couldn't think of anything else in double trouble. Didn't she become like a Hollywood bad girl? Yeah, she had a troubled coming of age. She kind of dug her way out of it a little bit. Yeah, I guess so. Any other thoughts on Lindsay Lohan, Phil? Or the parent trap. Parent trap rules.
Starting point is 00:23:00 This movie holds up. I love it so much. What about have you seen the old one? Because the old one's like, yeah, this is one of the ones where my mom was like, well, you gotta watch the original.
Starting point is 00:23:08 He watched it. I think I was just, you know, I was like old movie is old. But I, I think it's good. But I've seen this movie a dozen times. I think it's great.
Starting point is 00:23:15 Riva, do you have a review of the parent trap for us that you couldn't come up with? But you knew it. A review. I think it's fantastic. It's, yeah, it's a classic.
Starting point is 00:23:25 It was before, it was before she went downhill. Okay. I mean, she's like 12 years old. She's back now. Yeah, she's back. She's back, guys.
Starting point is 00:23:33 All right, and now it's time for our Mountain Dew questions of the week. Thanks to Mountain Dew, you get some bonus trivia in this week's episode. It does not count towards your score. It's just for bragging rights. Here's the first question. There are two of them. It's fishing. What type of fishing tournament has Mountain Dew sponsored?
Starting point is 00:23:49 Is it bass, noodling, white marlin, or fly fishing? What type of fishing tournament has Mountain Dew sponsored? Bass. Noodeling, white marlin, fly fishing. We've got another Mountain Dew question after this, then Phil's scoreboard update. What type of tournament has Mountain Dew sponsored? Bass, noodling, white marlin, fly fishing.
Starting point is 00:24:19 Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says bass, bass, bass, bass, bass, Alyssa, noodling, Brody Bass. The correct answer is bass. All right, the Mountain Dew Mountain question of the week. Mount Albert, Mount Massive, and Mount Harvard, the 14th, 15th, and 16th tallest mountains in America are located in this state. Is it Alaska, Colorado, Washington, or Idaho? Mount Elbert, Mount Massive, and Mount Harvard, the 14th, 15th, and 16th, tallest mountains in America
Starting point is 00:24:59 are located in this state. your four choices, Alaska, Colorado, Washington, or Idaho. Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says Colorado. Colorado. The whole room says Colorado. The whole room.
Starting point is 00:25:18 Yes. Got it right. Those were the Mountain Dew questions of the week. Enjoy the refreshing citrus kick of Mountain Dew, an American original. Tasting great since 48. Bill Taylor, scoreboard update. Here, in the middle of the middle. of our show, Dane, having a rough go of it with zero points.
Starting point is 00:25:39 Alyssa and Riva have one point apiece. Seth has three and tied up in first place. No longer with perfect games, however, tripped up by Nancy Myers' 1998 claxing the parent trap. They're tied for first with four points. Randall was more satisfied that Brody got that wrong than he would have been. I was dying. Brody got that.
Starting point is 00:25:57 I was dying on the inside. He was thrilled. Yeah. I just kept going back to sister sister, double trouble. Like, I think of some rhymes, you know. I just, I wasn't even close. The long loading times. The glitchy video calls.

Starting point is 00:28:42 Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says Ohio, Randall, Ohio, Riva, Ohio. The whole room says Ohio. The whole room got it right. It's Ohio. Buckeyes are native to about half of the United States. Their name comes from Native Americans comparing the nut to the eye of a deer with a dark,
Starting point is 00:29:05 glossy appearance that has a light center. Starting point is 00:30:32 Brody's pulled his hat way down, his thinking cap. He's doing a lot of thinking. R3, which refers to increased participation in the outdoors, stands for blank. blank and blank. My answer can't be right. The only thing that's coming to mine is just like everything else is just drowning.
Starting point is 00:30:56 How close am I, Randall? I don't know. Not close at all. Perfect. Are you confident? Do not have to be in order. Pretty confident. If it's wrong, it's because I got the wrong variations of. I've got the three.

Starting point is 00:32:00 I'm not doing good. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says, recruit, retain. Randall, recruitment, retention, reactivation. Viva. Rifle, rifle, rafting, and riverboating. That's great. Dane says,
Starting point is 00:32:19 recreation, respect, rules. Alyssa, reduce, reuse, recycle. Those are great. Brody says, recruit, re-engage, retain.
Starting point is 00:32:31 It's all the same thing. The three R's are recruitment, retention, and reactivation. Did, uh, Randall got that right. We're not going to give it to you, Brody. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:32:42 You were close. It's okay. It's the three R's, means the same. means the same thing. Retention, Reactivation. Not according to the scoreboard.
Starting point is 00:32:51 The R3 initiative has been widely adopted by outdoor organizations from state game agencies to gun ownership advocacy groups. Recruitment is for attracting new users. Retention is for keeping current users. And reactivation is for reengaging users who have drifted away. It's for what now? Reengaging users who have drifted away. Excuse me? Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:33:14 Your answer is my answer. but my answer is not right. I'm going to Google Brody. See if I can find any R3 that says re-engage versus reactivate. If I can, we'll give you that point. For now, we're on to question. It's all right. Don't Google, don't Google R3 re-engagement.
Starting point is 00:33:32 You just have to Google R3. Okay. And only go through two pages of results. Don't bother. Just the AI page. We're on to question eight. The topic is cooking. This brand has been called the Cleaner.
Starting point is 00:33:46 and Band-Aid of slow cookers. This brand has been called the Kleenex and Band-Aid of Slow Cookers. It's almost slow cookers. I made my first chili of the year. I made some chili Colorado this weekend. It's contagious. Delicious. I had it for lunch today, too.
Starting point is 00:34:21 What is that? What makes it Colorado? It's just like... Colorado means red. Red spices. Chunks of, yeah. It's like chunks of elk in a big red sauce. The sauce isn't big.
Starting point is 00:34:32 It's just red. Isn't it pork? Chunks of pork? I think you can do it with other things, but mine was with elk. You got to see this sauce. It's huge. It's huge. It's one of the bigger sauces out there.
Starting point is 00:34:47 This brand has been called the Kleenex and Band-Aid of slow cookers. Brody, I'm trying to help you. I can't find re-engaged. It's okay. Your answer. is my answer, but my answer is not right. Yes. It's just the definition of the word.
Starting point is 00:35:06 Very close, though. Not going to give you the point. We're on question eight. We're going to get another school board update after this. This brand has been called the Kleenex and Band-Aid of slow cookers. I see five confident players. And Brody, who just came up with his answer. Do you have this one right, Brody? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:35:22 I'm 50-50. Reva, are you ready? Dane, are you ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We've got the whole. room saying crock pot, the whole room got it right. It's crock pot. Instapot was a real. Despite Crockpot being a brand, it's often interchangeably used with slow cooker, similar to Kleenex and tissue or Band-Aid and Bandage. Although Crockpot didn't
Starting point is 00:35:47 create the slow cooker, they did popularize it after acquiring the inventors company in 1970. Did you mean to do that? No, I didn't mean to do that. I thought I had the cap on my marker. Did you just like a little marker? Like this? I don't know. There's nothing there. Don't worry about it. Phil, you had one job.
Starting point is 00:36:08 I was scorekeeping. I've got like four jobs. You've overlooked my physical comedy, which is also part of my... Phil's sixth job is keeping score. We're going to get a scoreboard update right now. Dane's got himself two points now. Alyssa and Riva have climbed up to three.
Starting point is 00:36:26 then in third place is Seth Morris with five and second place is Brody Henderson with six. Randall Williams is in first place with seven bullions. I think I should have four. Oh, this is once a dispute it's no one's ever correctly successfully disputed but you can try. She got Crockpot
Starting point is 00:36:42 she got Ohio Parent Trap. Mm-hmm. What else? I thought I had one before the break. Sorry, Phil, I'm wrong. One more for Phil. All right, Phil's today's Bill's day. I thought it was two before the first cup.
Starting point is 00:37:01 Like a boss. Like a boss. Question nine, the topic is fishing. This piece of gear is defined as, quote, a floating plastic or foam device that clips to your fishing line to pull your bait
Starting point is 00:37:16 or lure outward and away from your boat while trolling. It's not a bobber. Don't say it's a bobber. this piece of gear is defined as a floating plastic or foam device that clips to your fishing line
Starting point is 00:37:31 to pull your bait or lure outward and away from your boat while trolling. Seth, do you own this piece of gear? No. Brody, you definitely own this piece of gear. I do. Okay. Randall, I'm guessing it's a no. I don't even know that I have this right. Okay. I feel
Starting point is 00:37:51 I feel like I'm in the neighborhood, but I can't guarantee it. A piece of gear is defined as a floating plastic or foam device that clips to your fishing line to pull your bait or lure outward and away from your boat while trolling. I want to sit with my uncertainty for a while, Seth. Okay. Seth, I'm surprised you don't have just one of these in your boat. I did, but I gave him all with Chester. Oh, okay. It's good for you.
Starting point is 00:38:16 It's a good guy. RIP. I just saw him. Oh, that's good. I just fished with him for a week. To be clear, he's alive. Yeah, he just doesn't work immediately during. Chester and I had the best week of smallmouth fishing we've ever experienced in life.
Starting point is 00:38:30 Tell me more. Bad walleye fishing. What state? Montana. Okay. That's it. Uh-huh. How, uh, give me some numbers.
Starting point is 00:38:38 Size, quantity. Oh, we found a, well, our best, our best five fish bag was just over 23 pounds. Damn. Um, but we found, just found a school of, like, over a hundred small. And they were hungry right now. Yeah, we caught so many. It was very fun. That was during the work work.
Starting point is 00:38:58 No giants, but 23 pounds isn't bad. That was between Monday and Friday. That was, yeah. It was a work trip. That's nice. Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. Set says,
Starting point is 00:39:11 Plainerboard, Randall, Randall, Plainerboard, Reva Floater, Dane Bowie, Alyssa without an answer, Brody, Plainerboard. They got it. The correct answer is a planar board. Plainer boards are used by anglers targeting walleye, salmon, trout, stripers, and croppy.
Starting point is 00:39:31 Their purpose is to allow trolling anglers to fish with extra lines. Sometimes this is done to maximize the amount of rods one vessel can use, while other times anglers want to fish multiple depths or get their lure away from the boat if in shallow water. There is a rudimentary drawing of what a planar board would do for you. Oh, it's some frustrating fishing when you get all that shit tangled off. It is. It is.
Starting point is 00:39:55 And then, especially if you, like, go through a snag or something and you got multiple. I was going to ask, is something like that ever worth it, Seth?
Starting point is 00:40:02 Not for me. But people, I rarely use it. People love to do it. Then you, like, hook like a 14 incher on that damn the board weighs more than the fish.
Starting point is 00:40:13 Yeah. All right, here's a correct answer review so far. One was mean-mouth bass. Two, Alaska, California, Oregon. Three, Pulitzer Prize, four, Windicator, five, the parent trap, six, Ohio, seven, recruitment, retention, reactivation, eight, crock pot, nine, planar board, Phil, scoreboard update.
Starting point is 00:40:35 It's down to Randall and Brody, we have eight and seven points, respectively. Question 10, the topic is hunting. This next great question is from Chris Medveds. in the u.s fish and wildlife service migratory bird survey code m a l stands for mallard w o d u stands for wood duck and n o p i stands for blank blank brodie has it but randall is also writing an answer if randall can get this one right he will secure the victory but if he gets it wrong and brodie gets it right then we'll go to overtime in the u sq he's not in the uralt he U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service migratory bird survey.
Starting point is 00:41:24 Code M-A-L stands for Mallard. W-O-D-U stands for Wooddu, and N-O-P-I stands for blank, blank. Randall, do you have two words written down? I do. Okay. Do you think they're right? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:41:43 It's about as good as guess as I have, but then Seth made weird eye contact with me. I did hear kind of a smirk. I noticed how we ended with fishing and then birds. Yeah. We were out to get you after that Ohio Buckeye question. Yeah. N-O-P-I stands for blank blank.
Starting point is 00:42:08 Quit pretend and it's hard. I think it's hard. That's got me all twisted up. Follow the pattern. Does everyone have this? I have an answer. Randall has one of those too. Is everybody ready?
Starting point is 00:42:31 Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says Northern Pintail. Jesus. Randall says Northern Pintail. Riva says Northern Pigeon. Dane, Northern Pintail. Alyssa without an answer. Brody, Northern Pintail.
Starting point is 00:42:47 The correct answer is the Northern Pintail. I was just making you sweat. Yeah, well done. You did. Each species in the survey is given a four-letter code. Most of them are obvious, but a few require some explanation. For example, Canada goose is T-C-A-G, and light goose is T-L-T-G. That T at the beginning represents total Canada geese or total light geese
Starting point is 00:43:11 and doesn't split them into subspecies. All right, Randall is today's winner with nine points. You got the Shelby Index right on the nose. What are you going to do with that $500 donation? He's checking his DMs. Didn't consider you to be the winner. I want to say the organization is called the Mobile Baykeepers.
Starting point is 00:43:33 I'll find the exact name of it at some point down the road. Does something to do with a Jubilee? Yeah, because one of my favorite questions that you've asked Spencer had to do with Jubilee and I didn't know what a Jubilee was. And they just had a Jubilee. They did. I got people in Mobile and they let me know
Starting point is 00:43:50 they sent me some photos. It looked like a wild time, and I can't stop thinking about it. So let's send this money to, I believe it's the Baykeepers. You're right. It's the Mobile Baykeepers protecting Alabama's coastal waters. So now Randall can catch an invite to go join the Jubilee. Yeah, I just got to get that private aviation. The timing of it, commercial air traffic won't work.
Starting point is 00:44:13 Well done, Randall. Got to be on this question. Join us next week for more meat eater trivia, the only game show. conservation always wins. Thanks, Spencer. Yeah, Spencer from South Dakota. He's the host. Using those smooth, mellow tones,
Starting point is 00:44:28 he lays them questions down. And he likes taking those two- and three-year-old bucks. And he's an avid, amateur. This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed human.
