Starting point is 00:02:02 I'm your host, Spencer Newarth, and today we're joined by Janice, Brody, Randall, Mark, Riva, and Nick Glenn. This is a 10-round quiz show with questions from meat eaters four verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking. Can I ask a question? Sorry. You used to give Randall top billing. Did I feel like I change it up a lot?
Starting point is 00:02:23 Do you? I think I do. I don't know. I feel like Randall had top billing. But then sometimes I'm like, I think I'm overcorrecting. I'm like, well, I had Randall is the first name a lot recently. So now he got, he has bumped down to like fourth billing. Oh, I thought you've always done it by seniority.
Starting point is 00:02:37 I was actually, when you gave me my list of guests for my show later today, I tried to rank them by who's been here the longest. And I always thought that's why my name came came first. No, it's because you're the headlines. Because you're famous, man. Not because I'm employee
Starting point is 00:02:53 number one. Is that your employee number? I don't know. It's either Steve or myself. Me, Deater trivia is brought to you by one of my favorite beers, Bush Light Head for the Mountains. All right, Nick, this is your first time on the show. That's why you were the
Starting point is 00:03:07 last name. Uh-huh. Tell folks what you do here at me, Deeter. I am the social media video editor. Okay. Closer to the mic. Oh, sorry? Social media video editor.
Starting point is 00:03:18 That means when a really funny video of like Randall comes out, you're the guy back there on the ones and two. I'm talking about me a lot today. Making sure that it's really funny. Yeah, yeah. Shooting, editing. Everything. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:30 Everything you see. Strengths and weaknesses when it comes to meat eater trivia, hunting, fishing, conservation cooking. What do you think? Well, I am a first-generating. Hunter, if you, that's what it's called. I don't really know. So still figuring it all out, hunting-wise, but very confident fishing, freshwater,
Starting point is 00:03:46 mostly saltwater, but fishing forward. Nick yelled across the hallway this morning from his office to my office that he got his driver's license yesterday. So now he's going to own a deer tag in Montana this year. Yeah, hopefully. It's all happening. Look out deer now. Seriously.
Starting point is 00:04:01 Congratulations. You got your driver's license or you got your driver's license back? Got a driver's license. Nice. In the state of Montana. In Montana. Oh, oh. I thought you just didn't know how to drive.
Starting point is 00:04:13 Figuring it out. We're starting today with a mailbag question. If you have a question, you want the trivia crew to answer, then send your question with the subject line mailbag to trivia at the meeditor.com. This is from Stephen to Minnesota. When going out to hunt public land, I was wondering if the crew had any odd peculiar things that they take into consideration. For example, I hunt a lot of public lands in western Wisconsin. One factor I consider is whether the Packers are. playing that day. Bonus if it's against a division opponent or primetime game. Another is that this
Starting point is 00:04:43 small Minnesota town I hunt by has a weekly community event and I try to hunt whenever this is going on. My assumption is that potential hunters will be busy tending to these things, watching the Packers are going to this community event. I'm not sure if these factors really matter though, but I think it's working so far. All right, what do we think for Stephen? I think that's smart, what he's doing and what he's thinking about. I mean, I always just look at shitty weather. Like, I like the shitty weather days because most other people don't.
Starting point is 00:05:13 Or like the good bad weather where it's like November 10, it's 70 degrees. And everyone's like, oh, you can't, you know, the deer aren't moving now. Good point. Yeah. So the good bad weather, same thing. Cat Gris game in Montana. It's a good one.
Starting point is 00:05:26 There you go. It's also good because you can stop by local bars like mid afternoon and they might have a full spread set out. Okay. If you're if you're able to holidays are good too Thanksgiving Christmas New Year's Day is an excellent time Yeah, there's been some studies done by Auburn University Dr. Steven Ditchcock he talked about this another podcast before but that Thursdays are the best days of the week on public land
Starting point is 00:05:57 That's when deer movement is the most normal Saturday and Sunday they get pounded Monday Tuesday they're recovering Wednesday it's like creeping back to normal and then Thursday is like the most normal that it gets out there. Not anymore. Well, yeah, we've now ruined it. I think, you know, this is like the fifth podcast that that's been set on. But it's just, you know, good advice in general. Thursdays are when the studies show the deer on their feet the most. Anything else for Stephen in Minnesota?
Starting point is 00:06:26 All right. Good luck, Stephen. All right, before housekeeping today, Randall is going to give us a live tour update. Randall, what's happening with a live tour? It's canceled? No, it's actually, it's on. It's on. Yeah, I don't think Fargo has any tickets left.
Starting point is 00:06:43 I got to go back. My phone's in airplane mode. I checked on who is playing Monday Night Football. It screwed everything up. Okay. So, live tour, Grand Rapids, Michigan, December 14th. Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the 15th. Madison, Wisconsin.
Starting point is 00:06:59 I don't need to say the date every time. The following day, Des Moines, Iowa, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Fargo, North Dakota. Who are you most excited for? Pick one. Don't be like, oh, they're all fun. I love everybody. You know, I'm very excited for Milwaukee and Madison.
Starting point is 00:07:15 Oh, me too. I just think good. That's our people. I mean, they're all our people, but Milwaukee, I think just Wisconsin. Wisconsinites are a different breed, I feel like. We have a lot of love in the house for Wisconsinites. Yanni, which stop you most excited for? I mean, Grand Rapids will be good because that, you know, hometown pretty much, you know, 45 minutes from where I grew up.
Starting point is 00:07:40 And so we'll have a warm welcome there. Yeah, I don't know. I'm sorry, Spencer. They're all going to be great fun. Phil has been scouting teaky locations already. I mean, that's sure. That's why Milwaukee is the site I'm forward to. There's a bar there called Foundation that I have not visited yet.
Starting point is 00:07:58 There's also a sausage place. Are you going to take all of us? I have wrecks for. Everyone's invited. Okay. Everyone in the crowd, you're invited to. Wow. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:05 Shut it down. Is it you singers? I don't know. I have to check my DMs. He's going to get his phone out again. No, I don't want to do that. I feel like that's boring. The meat eater.com slash events.
Starting point is 00:08:17 Go on there to find your tickets. Don't go to these weird reselling sites where they jack up the prices. I've seen in the comments on all of our social media, I've seen some people saying they got charged X amount. got charged why I'm out. Go directly to the, to the website. They'll take you to the venue. Whatever, whatever, whatever.
Starting point is 00:08:36 Follow trusted websites when buying tickets. Okay. That's all I'll say. Randall's the secondary market, actually. Was that sufficiently? You did it. You did it. Good, good, good.
Starting point is 00:08:45 Now we have some real housekeeping. On a previous episode of trivia, I had a question about the 10-letter word for the small tool used by hunters to track air currents. The correct answer was Winddicator, but a few listeners wrote in to say that there is another correct answer, which is an an anomometer. anemometer is defined as, quote, an instrument used to measure wind speed, force, and airflow, and it is 10 letters.
Starting point is 00:09:09 So those listeners are right. If you said anemometer, give yourself a point. I had a follow up to that that I forgot about. The other wind decator we used in Austria, bubbles. No way. Like little kids bubbles.
Starting point is 00:09:23 What's cute? Yeah. Up in the stand, take out the little thing of bubbles. And then you can see. You can watch that thing glide. As they drift away, you can see if the wind's turning or swirling or whatever. That's a hot tip. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:35 I wonder if you, like, put some food coloring in there. If you'd, like, see it even further. And it's so delightful. Yeah. It's just fun. It adds, like, a little childish glee to the day. It would only work in habitat where there's, like, very little trees, brush or whatever, because. Yeah, I mean.
Starting point is 00:09:52 But that's with any windicator. Milkweed, get hung up on stuff. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Don't blow bubbles. in the woods, Yanni? Have it's your way.
Starting point is 00:10:03 No, I'm just like, it just seems like they would very quickly pop. You're covering, you're covering an area. You just got to blow a lot. Do they have a hunt specific, like, a vessel for these? Do you take a big colorful? Oh, there's a marketing, a real product opportunity. Yeah. Meeting their bubbles.
Starting point is 00:10:22 I'm a little surprised that it's not like a white tail thing. I could just see Mark up in a saddle. Okay. Yeah, man. for our next April full skit for our social media. And it's estrus, estrus scented. A little wand has different shapes.
Starting point is 00:10:39 Yes. You make a little shape of a buck to blow through. All right. That's a windicator with a lot of whimsy. Bretting that down. The Shelby Index for today is a four, so our winner should get eight correct answers. And with that, we're on to the game of trivia.
Starting point is 00:10:51 Play the drop, Phil. Look, I need to know what I stand to win. Everything. How's that? Just tend to win everything. question one the topic is biology this first great question is via justin andrews and as always it would be multiple choice dendrology is the study of blank is it fungi snakes trees or insects dendrology d'en d r o l o g why is the study of Is it fungi, snakes, trees, or insects?
Starting point is 00:11:45 And Justin Andrews, he sent me this question all the way back in 2022. So for the listeners who are worried that they haven't heard their question yet, just know it's never too late. You could send one today and in 2030 on a show. I'm going to read that question. Dendrology is the study of blank. Are you going to be doing this in 2030? Snakes, trees, insects.
Starting point is 00:12:07 Well, I'll be in walkers and like canes. and stuff. Randall, I don't think he even needed the choices on this one. Brody, do you know this one? Yes. Okay, Mark, you know this one. Ah.
Starting point is 00:12:23 Maybe. I've got to narrowed down to two if you're wondering, Spencer. I was wondering. At least I'm very confident. Dendrology is the study of fungi, snakes, trees, or insects.
Starting point is 00:12:39 If I didn't have the choices, I would have said something else. Okay. Yeah, the choices help on us. everybody ready I would have been in the neighborhood go ahead and reveal your answers Randall says trees
Starting point is 00:12:50 Mark fungi yanni snakes Reva fungi Nick insects Brody trees every one of the answers was represented the correct answer
Starting point is 00:13:02 is trees Brody and Randall got that one right I used process of elimination Mycology is the study of fungi serpentology is the study of snakes, entomology is the study of insects, and dendrology is the study of trees, shrubs,
Starting point is 00:13:21 and other woody plants. The term comes from the Greek word dendron, which means tree. I would have said herpetology for snakes. Yeah, I think that's a broader term. Serpentology is sweet. Question two, the topic is fishing. Superstitious anglers,
Starting point is 00:13:38 going back to the 1700s, have said that it's bad luck to bring this fruit onto a boat I am we've never had this never done this one that was amazing
Starting point is 00:13:50 I did something similar many years ago I could tell you about it after this question but I don't want to give you any hints do you guys all respect this rule no no
Starting point is 00:13:58 I used to mess with my clients when they yeah it's more like for funny banter yeah Captain Randall you didn't have any strict rules about this no
Starting point is 00:14:10 like if your clients really sucked you're like, that's why. No, it actually, I think, I think I learned about this because I brought this on a boat. Bad captain. Yeah. But then it didn't bother me because I didn't believe in it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:14:29 Superstitious anglers going back to the 1700s have said that it's bad luck to bring this fruit onto a boat. But I got razzed. Is everybody ready? I'm surprised it goes back that far, though. There's a reason. After this. Oh, geez. Go ahead and reveal your answers.
Starting point is 00:14:46 We have the whole room saying banana. The whole room got it right. The correct answer is bananas. This nautical superstition has been shared by boaters across the globe for hundreds of years, and it's not totally unfounded. Bananas release gas as they ripen, and on old wooden ships, this could cause other food to rock quickly. And because of their shortened lifetime, it said that boats carrying them would try to sail faster,
Starting point is 00:15:11 which made for riskier trips. So maybe it wasn't a total coincidence when boats with bananas seemed to have more bad luck. I got another reason that I heard. They would, when they would come across floating like whatever you called, they'd be the ship sunk. Okay. Bananas are floating. Bananas would make it. Yeah, bananas do make other things stink.
Starting point is 00:15:32 I remember very vividly on a camping trip as a kid having a box of Captain Crunch ruined by banana stink. Oh, wow. I didn't know. Is that, uh, that power? You know, like if you have bananas and, in a cooler with some and the bananas start to turn and everything just tastes like bananas. Did this to Captain Crunch. The question that I had that was similar to this many years ago was something about this underwear brand is not allowed on some boats because of their logo.
Starting point is 00:15:57 It was Fruit of the Lume. Captain Crunch's real name is Horatio Magellan Crunch. Thank you. I just wanted you to know that. Incredible fun fact. Question three, the topic is hunting. This next great question is via Daxton Clatworthy. Otis accidentally shoots Carl.
Starting point is 00:16:12 while White Tail Hunting in a 2011 episode of this post-apocalyptic show. Randall and Brody, I think they have the perfect game. Jeez. Still going. They have their answer for number three. Otis accidentally shoots Carl while White Tail Hunting in a 2011 episode of this post-apocalyptic show. Nick Glenn, do you have this one right? I believe so.
Starting point is 00:16:41 Okay. Have you seen this show? I believe so. You think you've seen the show. If it's right, then yes. I have no idea. If mine's right. Riva, do you have this one right?
Starting point is 00:16:53 No. Otis accidentally shoots Carl while white tail hunting in a 2011 episode of this post-apocalyptic show. Randall's uncapping his marker thinking about picking up his whiteboard. I just thought of another post-apocalyptic show. Oh, geez. Phil, can you give us a review of this show after the answer is revealed? Do you have an opinion on it? I mean, I can give an opinion without spoiling anything,
Starting point is 00:17:18 which is that I watched the first two seasons and checked out. Okay. Knowing what we know about Phil, is that a clue of somewhere? If it is and hasn't helped Yanni. It didn't have enough nudity in it, so Phil was out. There we go. Crass language in nudity. Yanni, can you name any post-apocalyptic shows?
Starting point is 00:17:43 Picking up his whiteboard. Otis accidentally shoots Carl while whitetail hunting in a 2011 episode of this post-apocalyptic show. Great question here from Daxton. I have another one, but I think it's too recent. This is a doozy. Oh, geez. Yanni, are you ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
Starting point is 00:18:11 Vandal says, Walking Dead. Mark, the Walking Dead. Yanni, dead men walking. That's the Sean Penn film, isn't it? The great value brand. Riva says Meta locholocalypts. Oh, good answer.
Starting point is 00:18:27 Nick, walking dead, Brody, the walking dead. The correct answer is the walking dead. The accident happens in the season two premiere of the show. 12-year-old Carl is walking through the forest when he comes upon a giant velvet buck. He amazingly sneaks to within just a couple yards of the deer. when a shot rings out, the bullet rips through the buck's chest before hitting Carl in the abdomen. The white tail
Starting point is 00:18:51 dies, but Carl survives thanks to emergency treatment from a veterinarian. Question four, the topic is wildlife. A 2018 study in a biophysics journal theorized that this seven-letter animal is actually an alien that arrived
Starting point is 00:19:09 here on a comet in egg form 270 million years ago. A 20,000, 2018 study in a biophysics journal theorized that this seven-letter animal is actually an alien that arrived here on a comet in egg form 270 million years ago. Randall and Brody are playing hangman and they've done some erasing. That animal didn't have seven letters, huh? No, it had eight. It would have been a good one, too.
Starting point is 00:19:41 I think we should be right. A 2018 study in a biophysics. journal theorized that this seven-letter animal is actually an alien that arrived here on a comet in egg form 270 million years ago. Nick is the only player who likes his answer. He's grinning, he's nodding. You got seven-letter animal over there that you think could be an alien. It's a seven-letter animal, that's for sure.
Starting point is 00:20:09 Hmm. That's why I keep checking my board to make sure that I spell it, right? Any hints? I've told you everything you need to know. Reba, do you have this one right? I feel fairly confident. Okay. Wow.
Starting point is 00:20:24 But I don't know. Eva and Nick, our other four players, though. Don't have it. A 2018 study in a biophysics journal. This is like a legit study. Peer reviewed. I'll tell you about it in the flavor text. A 2018 study in a biophysics journal
Starting point is 00:20:41 theorized that this seven-letter animal is actually an alien that arrived here on a comet in egg form 270 million years ago. How did you find this question? I've been vaguely aware of this study for a while, and I finally just made it into some content. I'm surprised more people don't have guests. Yeah, good for you, Reva.
Starting point is 00:21:04 Get them. This is question four. It's going to be awesome. The rest of the questions, though. Yanni hasn't done any writing yet. You just throwing the white flag on this one, Yanni? I mean, I know a lot of seven-lettered animals, but not ones that would be
Starting point is 00:21:25 you know considered aliens I don't think a lot of weird noises from the from the crew today not even Nick they got this one you guys should show each other your white boy oh and do you agree okay that's fun wow
Starting point is 00:21:45 this is amazing two that are so confident in the rest of us they know their UFOs mm yeah Randall do you have a seven-letter animal. I have a seven-letter animal. Okay. And I don't like it.
Starting point is 00:22:04 I think it's an okay answer. I just don't like the animal. Yanni, Mark, are you ready? I got nothing. Sure. Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Randall's saying octopus. Mark and Yanni without an answer. Liva and Nick say octopus. Brody says penguin. Platapus. That was my first answer. The correct answer is octopus. Half of our players got that one right.
Starting point is 00:22:35 Yeah, that makes sense. This is known as the panspermia theory, which says that life exists around the universe and is distributed by space debris. The hypothesis was first suggested by a Greek philosopher who believed meteors contained cosmic seeds that bounced around between planets. The 2018 peer-reviewed study specifically called out the octopus as being a potential alien. They argued that frozen octopus eggs attached to a comet might explain the mysterious creature, but mainstream scientists were very critical of the paper saying it lacks any basic evidence.
Starting point is 00:23:11 Yeah, that sounds reasonable. Could be 270 million years ago, though a comet with frozen octopus eggs hit the ocean, and that's where we're at today. I guess we'll never know. Question five, the topic is conservation. This next great question is via Brian Clement. The pallid blank, which is considered one of the most endangered fish in North America, was added to the endangered species list in 1990. Brody, Randall, Mark, Yanni. They all got it.
Starting point is 00:23:46 But our UFO experts, Nick and Riva do not. The pallid blank, which is considered one of the most endangered fish in North America, was added to the endangered fish. in North America was added to the endangered species list in 1990. Pallad Blank. This is question five. We'll get a scoreboard update from Phil the Engineer after this. By the way, next month, our next five episodes, we have guest host month. All your favorite Meteor trivia players are going to be in the driver's seat.
Starting point is 00:24:23 Yanni is up first, but we got an episode from Brody, from Randall, from Mark, from Nate. It's going to be a lot of fun. I wasn't asked to return. Why is that, Spencer? Oh, you can host mine if you want Oh, you hosted one, Phil? I've hosted two. I've said I've missed both of those.
Starting point is 00:24:39 Phil, I would love for you to host. I'm on the 12th. You can have that. I think I might be busy that time. Was the D&D thing for trivia or something else? That was for trivia. That was just a fun surprise that everyone enjoyed. Right?
Starting point is 00:24:56 I still have, like, I think I won, but I still have trauma. One of my greatest regrets in life is missing. that day. That was bad. Bad for Randall. The pallid blank, which is considered one of the most endangered fish in North America, was added to the endangered species list in 1990. Go ahead and reveal your answers.
Starting point is 00:25:16 We have Randall and Mark and Yanni. And the whole room says sturgeon. The whole room got it right. It's the pallid sturgeon. Pallet sturgeon are native to the Missouri and Mississippi River Watersheds. They grow up to six feet long. pounds. Their populations have cratered in the last 100 years due to dam construction and habitat
Starting point is 00:25:37 loss. It's estimated that the upper stretch of their native range, there are fewer than 50 adult fish remaining. There is me with a pallet surgeon. Sick haircut. Yeah. That had been like circa, I don't know, 2014. It's like the same haircut that kids are wearing now. Yeah, I was doing it first. I was reading about one of those suckers that took a left out of the Yellowstone in eastern Montana and went like 150 miles up the powder river. Oh. Which if you've seen the powder river, it's like, how did you get that far? I like your glasses too.
Starting point is 00:26:09 Thank you. It's like you're playing second base. Those those are my river working days. Got them on the Reds. All right, Phil, we're halfway through today's game. Give us a scoreboard update. Here we go. We do have a perfect game on the board.
Starting point is 00:26:25 Dr. Randall's got five points. Nick and Brody are a point behind him. No, we don't got one wrong. Uh-uh. No, I got them all right. I tried. I tried. Nick and Brody have four.
Starting point is 00:26:37 Mark Kenyon has, oh, wait, and Mark and Reva have three. Yannis Patelis is in last place with two points. Are you sure? Only two measly points. I'm 99%. I did that once. Don't worry about it. Yanni got bananas and he got pallet sturgeon.
Starting point is 00:26:53 That's it. Phil, aren't you going to rub it in that you never get it wrong? Janus, I'm always right. Don't question me. A new on-X hunt feature that I'm fired up about is now live. Location sharing. It lets up to 10 people in your group see each other's live positions on the same map, refreshing about every five seconds.

This Austrian gunmaker, who is best known for their pistols,
Starting point is 00:29:52 announced in 2024 that they'd no longer be selling horse semen. This seems right in your lane, Randall. My gosh, Randall, if you don't know this. This Austrian gunmaker, who is best known for their pistols, announced in 2024 that they'd no longer be selling horse semen. I mean, best known for their pistols. Best known for their pistols. This Austrian gunmaker, who is best known for their pistols, announced in 2024 that they'd no longer be selling horse semen. Randall, do you have this one right?
Starting point is 00:30:32 I don't know. How many Austrian gunmakers can you name, you think? I mean, I have two down right now. Okay. The horse semen is what's throwing me off. I don't think I've ever purchased horse semen from an Austrian gunmaker. He thinks. You're more of a German horse semen guy.
Starting point is 00:30:56 Now the Swiss, tell you what? I wonder if they also sell guns with which to implant the horse semen. Interesting. This Austrian gun. who is best known for their pistols announced in 2024 that they'd no longer be selling horse semen what i want to know is what kind of rabbit hole led you to this were you googling pistols uh the rabbit hole was andrew heatherwick sending out of this great question okay andrew did well same question to him i just yeah i feel like if it's not what i think it is it's
Starting point is 00:31:33 too esoteric for most of the room okay but i don't know there are other players give up. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Randall says Glock. Mark, Taurus, Yanni, Colt, Riva, Nick, without an answer, Brody, H and K. The correct answer is Glock.
Starting point is 00:31:57 Randall. Oh my God, a nose horse, Stephen. Glock, which started selling guns in 1982, created a branch of their business dedicated to horses in 2010. The Glock horse, performance center was a high profile training and breeding operation that became one of the powerhouses of dressage.
Starting point is 00:32:16 But after Glock's founder died in 2023, the family announced that they'd be shuttering the equine side of their business. So they had a good run. Yeah, the date lined up with the family, uh, whatnot. They had a good run is, uh, the premier dressage. They have a big facility in Furluck. Glock does. Yes. Well, I think they used to, but I think,
Starting point is 00:32:39 It's like since their announcement, they've been moving away from it. And they said by 2026, all will be out of the Glock name. Not the semen. The guns. The guns. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. No, the guns.
Starting point is 00:32:54 Question seven, the topic is fishing. Oh, man. This six-letter word is defined as, quote, a small, low-powered auxiliary outboard engine mounted on a boat's transom next to the primary engine. Randall and Brody They got it Yanni He thinks he has it
Starting point is 00:33:17 This six-letter word is defined as a small Low-powered Auxiliary Outboard Engine mounted on a boat's Transom next to the primary engine We got one of these that need to sell Has your bear rug sold yet? Yep Oh it did!
Starting point is 00:33:37 Congratulations You sell it through store? How'd you do it? Did you have to come down off of your original ask? No, I mean, there's always some haggling involved. Okay, yeah, all right. Now you can find Brodies this thing at the store next. Yeah, you should put it in the window. This sixth letter word is defined as, quote, a small, low-powered auxiliary outboard engine mounted on a boat's Transom next to the primary engine. Randall switched up his seat today because the other one's been bad luck.
Starting point is 00:34:12 It has. Yanni, who's in last place. Ooh, yeah. Is in the bad luck seat. Yeah, I don't know if I shared this on the air, but I had someone the other day greet me and said, you used to be so good at trivia. Oh, no. And I figured desperate times.
Starting point is 00:34:30 Are you done with stats of the week? I think I've done with stats. Really? Yeah. We've seen it on. all the stats by now. I'd rather answer the listener questions that they have. Sixth letter word is defined as a small, low-powered auxiliary outboard engine mounted on a boat's transom next to the primary engine. Is everybody ready?
Starting point is 00:34:50 Go ahead and reveal your answers. Randall says, kicker, Mark without an answer. Yanni, kicker, Riva and Nick without an answer, Brody, kicker, the correct answer is kicker. Nick, I understand it's your first time, but you came in here hard on the fishing thing. Hey, I'm on boats, salt water. We don't really call them kickers. You know, it's just like a trolling motor, you know, or like the outboard motor. Like, I was just trying to think of something was six and nothing came. Kicker motors range from five horsepower to 25 horsepower, with 9.9 being the most popular
Starting point is 00:35:24 choice. By now going above 10 horsepower, the engine skirts rules regarding registration and horsepower limits. The purpose of a kicker is to give anglers low speed control of the boat while also having a reliable emergency backup motor. What horsepower is yours, Brody? 9.9.05. We're on to question 8. The topic is conservation. Timbuktu, which is a real city on this continent, was a hub for the global ivory trade for three centuries. Am I spelling right? Timbuck two, which is a real city on this continent was a hub for the global ivory trade for three centuries. Randall, do you just know this one?
Starting point is 00:36:11 Were you taking a guess? I knew this. I also feel like there's only a few to choose from. And there's some sufficient context and question. Timbuktu, which is a real city on this continent, was a hub for the global ivory trade for three centuries. That's a man who's confident. in his position on the scoreboard. Just handing out all those hints.
Starting point is 00:36:38 Is it a hint? I guess. I mean, the continents, yeah. I can't catch him anyway. I'm leaving my answer the way of it is. Timbuktu, which is a real city on this continent, who is a hub for the global ivory trade for three centuries. Mark, you know this one?
Starting point is 00:36:55 Just a guess. I bet it's a good one. We'll get another scoreboard update from Phil after this. Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. Randall says Africa, Mark Africa, Yanni Africa, Riva Africa, Nick Africa, Brody Asia. The correct answer is Africa. Room did well.
Starting point is 00:37:17 Africa. From the 13th to 16th century, Timbuktu was one of the wealthiest and most influential trading hubs in the world. It trafficked everything, but its main economy was gold, salt, ivory, silks, grain, horses, and books. Timbuktu is located where the Sahara Desert meets the Niger River, which historians called the, quote, camel-meat canoe crossroads. Its proximity to Africa's elephant-rich interior specifically made it an epicenter for ivory trade. Art Bill, two questions left. Let's see the scoreboard. Randall caused a bit of an anticlimactic game here because he's locked up the victory with eight points.
Starting point is 00:37:59 He's three points ahead of the second place. players who are Brody and Nick with five points and then Janus Mark and Riva are tied up with four. I hope but don't blow it at the end. See if you can get a perfect game and double the donation. That's what I mean. $1,000. Question nine, the topic is cooking. This is our listener question of the week, which was won by David Hayes for sending this great question.
Starting point is 00:38:20 David is going to get a $150 first light gift card. If you want a chance to win the listener question of the week, then send your question to trivia at the meat eater.com. this figurative and literal culinary phrase says that you should quote boil the piss out of blank when cooking these organs this figurative and literal
Starting point is 00:38:45 culinary phrase says that you should boil the piss out of blank when cooking these organs Randall and Brody they have their answers you boys have this one right? I think so I also Spencer
Starting point is 00:39:01 sent me a picture of the location of Timbuktu and so I'm just going to bring that up. Oh yeah, there it is. In case you're wondering where on the globe Timbuktu is located. Now you got it. You can see where the desert comes right up and butts up against the green. That's what made its location for trade. So special.
Starting point is 00:39:18 I wanted to make a joke about the camel canoe crossroads. What's the joke? Well, it's going to be something to do with cigarettes, but I haven't gotten there yet. Okay. You think on that. This figurative and literal culinary phrase says that you should boil the piss out of blank when cooking these organs. Sounds like something Steve would say.
Starting point is 00:39:43 The culinary phrase or the camel thing? No, not the camel thing. Yeah, that's all random. That's too highbrow. This figurative and literal culinary phrase says that you should boil the piss out of blank when cooking these organs. Yanni is hosting next week Is the answer what those organs are? Yes.
Starting point is 00:40:11 Hmm, he stumped. What was your answer? Did you have one? No. Does this mean there's more? I got so much. No, I'm going to leave it. That doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:40:24 Yanni is hosting next week. Yanni, how you feeling about that episode? You like your questions that you wrote? Yeah, Jennifer said they were fun. All right, that's nice. Do you have an answer to this one? She wouldn't lie. I'm excited for that episode.
Starting point is 00:40:36 Spencer, we were having a debate. When I host, if my goal is to have three people get a perfect game for a tiebreaker, would you be mad if I did that? No, do that. That'll be fun. That's why it's fun to have the guest host, because you guys just say you bring some different flavor than what you get every other week of the year. I'm thinking about doing all of my questions about
Starting point is 00:40:57 Gons, Gensura 1 and 2. Okay, I'll study up then. Great movie. Waiting on Yanni down there. Oh, yeah, yeah, let's go. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Randall says, kidneys, Mark, kidneys, yonnie bladder,
Starting point is 00:41:13 Reeve a liver, Nick kidneys, Brody Kidneys. The correct answer is kidneys. Urine is made in the kidneys and that pungent smell can be noticeable when cooking. To prevent this, it's recommended that you trim the kidneys, then soak them in milk overnight, then boil them two to three times for five minutes each. For a classic kidney dish, check out Dan. Neil Pruid's venison steak and kidney pie recipe on the meat eater.com. Never eating them.
Starting point is 00:41:41 Is anybody? I don't think I have either. Yeah, the only, the only memory I have of it is it just tasted like I, I buried my head in urine-soaked straw in a barn. Like that was the, that was like the number one. It was just like it tasted the way that it smells when you walk into a barn where that changed out the head. Did the cook know what they were doing?
Starting point is 00:42:04 Apparently they did not do that. I don't know. Okay. I don't know. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt until now, but it seems like there is a way to get rid of the piss. Boil the piss out of them. All right, here's a correct answer of you so far. One was dendrology is the study of trees.
Starting point is 00:42:17 Two, bananas. Three, the Walking Dead. Four, octopus, five sturgeon, six Glock. Seven, kicker motor. Eight, Africa. Nine. Kidneys. Phil scoreboard update.
Starting point is 00:42:29 Well, I spoke too soon about being anti-climactic because Randall still has the Perfect game going into question 10. I almost wish I'd blown it on the last one. The topic is wildlife. This five-letter word is defined as, quote, the male bee of a honeybee colony whose sole purpose is to mate with the queen. And he seems to have it. Had this answer before I finish the question.
Starting point is 00:42:55 You a honeybee boy over there? You're going to start raising those with your chickens? No, I hate bees, man. I'll be honest. Okay. They sting me. I swell up real bad. That's why you know your enemy so well.
Starting point is 00:43:05 You got this one right. I hope so. Did I get it right? I didn't see your answer. I just saw how quickly you wrote. Gosh, I think it's right. This five-letter word is defined as the male bee of a honey bee colony whose sole purpose is to mate with the queen. I'm fixing to argue about this one.
Starting point is 00:43:23 Really? Oh, yeah. Just wait. Yeah. Let your blood pressure start rising now in anticipation. for Yanni's game. No. Phil. For this argument.
Starting point is 00:43:36 Is this a word that you like? Oh. I have no idea what you're getting at. Oh, no, no. Actually, that doesn't make sense. Yeah, never mind. Okay. Great. I was confusing this term.
Starting point is 00:43:47 We'll just pretend this. I was confusing this term with another term. Is everybody ready? I don't have an answer. Let's see if he has the perfect game. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Randall says drone. Mark Drone. Yanni, without an answer.
Starting point is 00:44:01 Riva. steer, Nick without an answer, Brody says, Daddy. This episode had UFOs, that horse semen, and now it has Daddy. Daddy. Tell me I'm wrong. Argue for it. Is drone, Randall got it. He's got the perfect game. I think that's back-to-back weeks now. We've had 12 big games with Brody last week and Randall this week. The three types of bees in a beehive are queens, workers, and drones. The Queen's bee lays eggs. Dron bees mate with virgin queens and worker bees focus on hive maintenance,
Starting point is 00:44:38 defense, and food gathering. Worker bees choose queens when that female is just a couple days old in larvae form. When a queen is selected, it is fed a special diet of a royal jelly that triggers the development of reproductive organs. The royal jelly. That's what the bee people call it. You're going to be a bee man yet. To explain my thinking there. Yes, please. I had, for whatever reason in my mind, I had conflated the term droid with drone. I was thinking of C3PO and R2D2. C3PO. And then I realized, it would have been weird, though.
Starting point is 00:45:11 Yeah, it would have been weird. I know. Phil loves the word. I know. All right, Randall did it. He got double digit correct answers. The perfect game. What are you going to do with that $1,000 donation?
Starting point is 00:45:20 It's donate this to the North American Pronghorn Foundation. Okay. I think that's a new one for us. I think it's a new organization as well. It is. $1,000 will go a long ways there. Yeah, they've, They were founded, I think only in the last two years, maybe.
Starting point is 00:45:35 We interviewed him on Media Radio Live. Oh, yeah, I've forgotten about that. And it's Bronghorn season coming up here in Montana. So, you know, get my, get my juju, get my, what do you call that? Karma? Karma. Yeah, get my karma going. There you go.
Starting point is 00:45:52 For Saturday. Then you can go kill one. Yeah. All right, a reminder, again, our next five episodes, we've got guest hosts. It's going to be a lot of fun. Please tune in. Join us next week for more Meat Eat Eater Trivia. the game show where conservation always wins.
