A California man facing separate state and federal weapons charges after authorities reportedly discovered him armed at President Trump's golf course outside Los Angeles just two days before the president's visit. Federal prosecutors identifying the suspect as 38-year-old Janine John Taley of Downey, California. According to a federal criminal complaint, agents first notice.
Starting point is 00:02:29 noticing Taley at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes on Friday while conducting security preparations for the president's upcoming fundraiser. Taley allegedly walking around the property wearing an earpiece while photographing and recording the federal agents in their security planning activities. Federal authorities reporting Taley leaving the property before returning on Sunday as agents continued preparing for the president's visit. Taley allegedly approaching the agents and claiming he worked for the state department while falsely presenting himself as part of a security detail. The suspect then reportedly telling agency had a loaded firearm inside his vehicle in the golf course parking lot. Los Angeles County Sheriff's
Starting point is 00:03:10 deputies responding to the property and discovering Taley was also wanted in connection with an unrelated robbery investigation dating back to November of last year. Deputies allegedly recovering a 16-round magazine loaded with hollow point ammunition from Taley's pocket. A search of his pickup truck reportedly uncovering a loaded 9-millimeter pistol with a round in the chamber, additional hollow-point ammunition, binoculars, and a badge reading, quote, security protection agent. Detectives assigned to the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force, subsequently searching Taley's home in Downey, authorities reportedly recovering an illegally modified rifle, a 45-caliber pistol,
Starting point is 00:03:51 body armor, high-capacity magazines, ammunition, radio equipment, and multiple notebooks containing what investigative, describe only as, quote, concerning statements. On the state level, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office charging Taley with four counts, those charges including three alleged weapons offenses connected to the golf course arrest, possession of a short-barreled rifle or shotgun, receiving a large-capacity magazine, and carrying a concealed firearm inside a vehicle. The fourth state charge involving second-degree robbery, reportedly stemming from the separate November 2025 incident under investigation by El Segundo Police. Taley pleading not guilty to all four
Starting point is 00:04:32 state charges during his arraignment Tuesday. A judge setting bail at $250,000, ordering Taley to stay away from the golf course and prohibiting him from possessing weapons. His preliminary hearing and bail review set for August 26th. Federal prosecutors separately charging Taley with possessing an unregistered short-barreled rifle based on the weapon allegedly recovered from his home. that federal felony carrying a maximum possible sentence of 10 years behind bars. Taley expected to make his first appearance in federal court following his transfer from county custody. Investigators saying they are still working to determine Taley's motive. Authorities have not accused Taley of plotting to harm President Trump
Starting point is 00:05:13 and have not disclosed what investigators found concerning inside the notebooks. Taley previously serving in the United States Marine Corps from 2008 until 2016, reaching the rank of corporal and deploying to both Iraq and Afghanistan, according to Newsweek. The suspect's first name, Janine, prompting online speculation that Taley might be so-called transgender. Los Angeles County Sheriff's department spokesperson Calvin Ma telling Newsweek that Taley is a biological male, President Trump addressing the arrest last night on Fox News. There was a threat. There was a man who was arrested, seemed to be heavily armed near the property here on Sunday. is it's an ongoing concern, sir. Talk about that for a brief. Well, the only thing I get a little
Starting point is 00:05:57 solace from is they say only consequential presidents. And I am definitely consequential. Republican Congressman Chuck Edwards of North Carolina dropping his re-election campaign two days after the House Ethics Committee recommended that he faced a formal censure. The congressman announcing his decision in a post on X early yesterday morning, writing that he reached it after, quote, much prayer and reform. Mr. Edwards planning to complete his current term while thanking voters across Western North Carolina for their trust and support. The announcement following a months-long investigation into Edwards' treatment of two young female employees in his congressional office. The bipartisan
Starting point is 00:06:37 ethics committee finding, quote, substantial evidence that the congressman repeatedly crossed professional boundaries, creating a workplace leading to, quote, rumors and innuendo in the office. The report finding, quote, both women were uncomfortable with. with his behavior, which they attempted to communicate, but were put in an untenable position by virtue of his status as their boss and a member of Congress. The Ethics Committee recommending the full House formally censure Edwards for what it describes as persistent, unprofessional, and inappropriate conduct. Axios first reporting the allegations in May, setting several people who reportedly witnessed Edwards singling out the two staffers for unusually personal
Starting point is 00:07:16 attention. The congressman allegedly taking the women to frequent one-on-one dinners, commenting on their clothing and appearances, and purchasing jewelry and other personal gifts. The congressman allegedly buying a purse for one staffer and bringing her as his guest to several events, including the White House Christmas party in 2024. Congressman Edwards has been married since 1980. Mr. Edwards, previously denying the accusations to Axios, claiming political opponents were using false allegations to manufacture negative coverage. Attorneys for the congressman now arguing the recommended punishment is excessive, pointing to the committee's finding that Edwards did not explicitly proposition either woman
Starting point is 00:07:57 or engage in sexual activity with them. A censure vote reportedly expected after lawmakers return from their August recess. Mr. Edwards' withdrawal coming just days before Monday's deadline for North Carolina Republicans to replace him on the ballot. Politico reporting, the Republican Executive Committee for the state's 11th, congressional district plans to meet Monday evening to select a new nominee. The party now racing to stabilize a district that would ordinarily be considered safely Republican. Cook Political Report elections analyst Dave Wasserman explaining the potential consequences on CNN. It's not just Max
Starting point is 00:08:33 Miller in Ohio 7. It's Chuck Edwards in North Carolina's 11th district. It is Corey Mills in Florida's 7th district. All three of them either face allegations of sexual harassment or assault. And in Edwards' case was recommended by the House Ethics Committee for censure. Mills in Florida has faced calls to resign, and now Republicans are extremely nervous about Max Miller. All three of those seats I mentioned voted for Donald Trump by between 11 and 12 points in 2024, and they wouldn't be vulnerable for Republicans in a normal year, but these are not normal circumstances, and this is not a normal year. President Trump's approval rating in all three seats is underwater, and these scandals could not only widen Democrats' path for the House majority, but push them higher into
Starting point is 00:09:20 perhaps more than 225 or 230 seats. Coming up, a tight win for the progressive left in Michigan as Abdul-Said wins the Senate nomination over establishment-backed Congresswoman Haley Stevens and a military GPS jamming exercise now reportedly linked to a deadly METAVAC crash in New Mexico. You don't wait until your house is on fire to install a smoke detector, and you don't wait until the wind and rain hammer your windows and the power goes out to prepare for a hurricane. You don't reach for your seatbelt after the impact, because after the crash, the hurricane of the house fire, it's too late. And in the same vein, you do not wait until the dollar goes to zero before you buy gold. It's too late then.
Starting point is 00:10:06 So consider diversifying with precious metals right now, because you never know what will threaten your savings next. Let me tell you, every wealthy person I know is doing this. We got persistent inflation. I don't have to tell you that. A weakening dollar. Unexpected financial disruptions. You don't know what's coming, but you can take a preventative step to hedge your bets. One option requesting a free info kit on gold from Birch Gold Group.

A major upset in Michigan's Democrat Senate primary, though not the runaway victory, many pollsters had been predicting. progressive candidate, Abdul Al-Sayed, narrowly defeating more moderate establishment-backed Congresswoman Haley Stevens, winning roughly 48.5% of the vote to Stevens' 47.5%. Just one point. El Sayyad entering election day with significant momentum, with the final Real Clear Politics polling average showing him ahead by more than 10 points. The contest widely viewed as a test of the Democratic Party's ideological direction, pitting an outspoken progressive backed by Senator Bernie Sanders and Congress. Congresswoman Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez against a four-term Congresswoman supported by Governor Gretchen Whitmer and establishment Democrat leaders. El-Sayed ultimately delivering a major victory for the party's progressive wing, though the results revealing sharp divisions inside the Democrat base, he will now have to unite, CNN's Manirajou breaking down the returns.
Starting point is 00:12:01 Just to look at his path, Abdul al-Saiat's path to victory, where he did well, where Haley-Stevens did well. There's one county here, Washington, County. That's the home of Ann Arbor. The University of Michigan is there. Very academic, very educated district. He did extremely well, really ran up the score against Haley Stevens, winning there by 60.8 percent to Haley Stevens, 36 percent. But then when you move over to Wayne County, that's the neighboring district, Detroit, there, Haley Stevens, winning in Wayne County, working class voters, a lot of black voters there. She wins by six points there. and then some of the swing distance that will be absolutely pivotal come November.
Starting point is 00:12:44 McComb County, the home of Reagan Democrats. You can see there, Haley Stevens, again beating Al-Dul Al-Sayyad, this time by about eight points there in that race. In the neighboring county, Oakland County, more Democratic area, still suburban Michigan area, again, showing where El-Sayette has to make up ground, losing by six points in that suburban county. The narrow result complicating any claim that Michigan Democrats, delivered Al-Sayed an overwhelming mandate. Some of four reporters Shelby Talcott assessing how the outcome reshapes the race heading into November on CNN.
Starting point is 00:13:18 Progressives won, and that's a huge win for the progressive base. But they woke up thinking that they were going to win by a lot more, and it was a lot narrower than some of the polling showed leading up to this race. And so that's a concern for the progressive base, in a way, a win for the establishment Democratic Party. And so it does show that despite Al-Sahed winning, there's a lot of very. ground that he's going to have to make up in this general election. And that's what Republicans have been banking on. I've talked to Republicans over the past few months, and they've been open about
Starting point is 00:13:46 it. They wanted him to win this race because they feel like the messaging is going to be easier. There's going to be more to attack. And you're already seeing even this morning how they're coming out and attacking him, right? The National Republican Senatorial Committee quickly dropping one of several new attack ads yesterday morning. Adieu-Ramon Muhammad El-Sayyayette, the most radical Senate candidate in America. Pretty dangerous. El-Sayed pledged support for the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, a designated foreign terrorist group.
Starting point is 00:14:14 He wants to hike taxes on Michigan waitresses, delivery drivers, and seniors on Social Security. He joined a sex offender and a murderer to demand the mass release of dangerous prisoners. And when his ally claimed America deserved 9-11... America deserved 9-11, dude. El-Sayed refused to disavow... I'm not here to disavow people's views. Abdul El-Sayed, too radical, too dangerous.
Starting point is 00:14:33 Wrong for Michigan. Al-Sayed, now trying to carry his anti-establishment message into November after surviving one of the most expensive Senate primaries in the country. The candidate speaking to reporters yesterday morning, seeking to turn the spending gap into the central argument for his general election campaign against former congressman, Republican Mike Rogers. We forged a movement out of that to get money out of politics, put money back in pockets and pass Medicare for all to guarantee health care in this country. And for our troubles, the corporations, the special interests, who would rather get to decide who our elected officials are than let us decide who our elected officials are, they spent an unprecedented amount of money to beat us. Attack ad after attack ad, after attack ad, wall to wall ads. But it turns out that the commercials are the part of the television show. Most people don't want to watch.
Starting point is 00:15:28 It turns out that you can spend as much money as you want on lies, but it doesn't make them true. Rogers entering the general election with President Trump's endorsement, the former congressman responding to El Ceyad's victory yesterday in a statement, quote, Abdul isn't just another liberal. He's an extremist. Wired reporting a military GPS jamming exercise may have triggered a deadly medevac plane crash in New Mexico earlier this year, apparently leaving the pilots disoriented before they flew into the side of a mountain.
Starting point is 00:16:00 the twin-engine Beachcraft King Air, taking off from Roswell shortly before midnight on May 13th, heading roughly 60 miles west to Ruudoso to pick up a patient, two pilots and two nurses traveling aboard the aircraft. Wired identifying the pilots as 30-year-old Captain Keelan Clark and 23-year-old first officer Ali Kasara. Clark reportedly receiving his commercial pilots license about a year and and a half earlier, and being promoted to captain just one month before the crash. Kassara reportedly working for the Medevac company for only two months after previously flying cargo planes. The weather reportedly clear, though the nearly moonless night leaving the crew with few visual references over the rural terrain. Eight minutes after takeoff, the pilots
Starting point is 00:16:44 telling Albuquerque air traffic controllers they had lost their GPS, according to Wired. The crew asking air traffic controllers to tell them which direction to fly as they attempted to navigate toward Rodoso without their normal GPS guidance. Three other aircraft reportedly losing GPS service around the same time, leaving controllers assisting several planes during the disruption. Wired reporting the aircraft's GPS later returning that the pilots instead requested permission to make a visual approach after spotting the airport lights more than 30 miles away.
Starting point is 00:17:17 The crew turning toward those distant lights, apparently believing they now had a clear path to the airport. The plane turning and descending, toward those lights, with the pilots apparently unable to see the nearly 10,000-foot Capitan Mountains blocking their path in the dark of night. The pilots attempting to pull up, but not enough to clear the mountains, crashing into the mountainside at full speed, killing all four people aboard, wired tracing the widespread GPS disruptions that night to a military electronic warfare exercise underway roughly 100 miles away. The Air Force's 746 Test Squadron holding its annual
Starting point is 00:17:54 Nav Fest event at the White Sands Missile Range, the two-week event bringing together military electronic warfare units to test technology designed to disrupt GPS signals and to operate through similar interference from adversaries. The FAA previously warning pilots that GPS service could be disrupted as far as 400 miles from White Sands between May 12th and May 18th. Wired reporting the Roodoso accident is the first known civilian plane crash in the United States linked to GPS jamming, as the military increased. test electronic warfare technology intended to counter drones and other emerging threats. The NTSB yet to issue its final determination on what caused the crash, with its preliminary
Starting point is 00:18:36 report only confirming that GPS jamming was active at the time. A final report is due sometime next year. The Air Force has not publicly addressed why it's reporting or the exercise's potential role in the accident. That'll do it for your AM update.
