Canada is absolutely furious and ready to take action against Donald Trump and the Trump regime after his fifth grade like tariff letter from July 10th, 2025, I'm saying that it's gonna be 35% tariffs on Canadian goods.
Starting point is 00:02:33 And if you dare tariff Canada, if you dare tariff us in retaliation, I'm gonna increase the tariffs by whatever you tariff even more. And this is after Donald Trump was threatening Canada to get rid of a digital sales tax, which in good faith, Prime Minister Carney agreed to do. But now across the political spectrum in Canada, everyone from David Eby, premier in British Columbia, to Doug Ford, premier in Ontario, conservative Doug Ford, NDP David Eby in British Columbia,
Starting point is 00:03:08 you know, are saying we need to be united right now. And Prime Minister Carney also seems keen to bring the premiers together. This is what David Eby writes in response to Donald Trump's trade war letter to Canada, Eby writes, this letter is flailing and factually incorrect. Donald Trump's trade war letter to Canada, EB rights. This letter is flailing and factually incorrect. Other F words come to mind. Just one more reminder of why Canadians need to come together to grow our economy and stand strong.
Starting point is 00:03:36 British Columbians are leading the way on that work. And then the premier of Ontario, Doug Ford writes, in the face of President Trump's latest threats, we need to come together. We need a plan on how Canada will respond and how we'll protect our workers, our businesses and our communities. I've asked Prime Minister Carney,
Starting point is 00:03:55 I've asked and Prime Minister Carney has agreed to an in-person First Minister's meeting on Tuesday, July 22nd in Huntsville, ahead of the Council of the Federation meeting with Canada's premiers. Together we're going to remain united as we protect Ontario and protect Canada. Let's bring leader of the Resistance, former NDP member of Parliament, Charlie Angus. Charlie, just your initial reaction first before going into the emergency meeting to Donald Trump's letter to Canada after a trade deal was not made?
Starting point is 00:04:27 Well, I mean, is anyone surprised that Trump was going to pull this? You know, he declared he was gonna have 90 trade deals in 90 days, that bombed. He said that he would have a trade deal with Canada on July 21st, and yet he attacked us. He pulled away from the table. The Prime Minister agreed to drop the digital sales tax, which I think cost the Prime Minister
Starting point is 00:04:49 a lot of trust in Canada. They were like, why did you do that? And the Prime Minister tries to present a vision of saying, you know, I'm reasonable, we're going to work with this guy. The Prime Minister didn't respond when Trump threw arbitrary 50% tariffs on steel and aluminum. The prime minister said, we're not negotiating in public and by Twitter. We're going to sit down at the table. And then Donald Trump pulls this stunt.
Starting point is 00:05:14 So what's very clear, and I think the prime minister had to go through this to really get them the strength he's going to need now, is that you don't sit down and negotiate with a gangster regime in good faith You just can't trust Trump and the one thing we know about Trump is he's never Beared off his intention of destroying our nation by destroying our economy. He's made that clear He's come back at us again and again He's wavered on so many other nations, but Canada has remained his focus, his enemy, the nastiest people, he says.
Starting point is 00:05:47 We see the rising rhetoric coming from Kristi Noem and Cash Patel and the other mega dugs that he has that are blaming Canada for all manner of falsehoods and lies. So this is a moment of decision for Canada to stand up in the face of this kind of threat or roll over and we are not going to roll over. Right. There's not rational trade discussions that we would expect of friends and allies coming from the Trump regime. I mean, it is a constantly defaming Canada and saying that Canada needs to do certain things that Canada's one either already doing or you know it's the whole the whole trade letters premised on you're sending fentanyl in and you're killing all of these Americans. That's just not true. You know we see that in Canada you know we see in you know in Donald Trump's negotiations
Starting point is 00:06:40 with Japan. You know he says you need to remove the tariffs on automobiles and Japan's like, there's no tariffs on automobiles, but what are you talking about? And so to me, it's just really about attacking national sovereignty of the ones closer allies, the closest allies to the United States. So how do you even navigate it? I mean, you know, are the people in Canada,
Starting point is 00:07:00 Charlie, just ready to say, look, we can deal with this. Just stop the BS, Stop negotiating with this guy. We'll deal with it. And just enough. Yeah, I think the real issue here is that Donald Trump's not negotiating on behalf of the American workers in the American economy. He treats trade negotiations as this ritual of humiliation
Starting point is 00:07:20 and power struggles that he has to come out on top. He's not interested in what's the benefit of the Wisconsin farmers. He's making this now his new threat is dairy farmers in Canada because we have a system that allows because we have much more cooperative history in Canada that our farm communities work together. We are not competing with the Americans. We are not flooding the American market and American farmers can bring dairy into Canada without tariff. It's just they can't flood the market. So Donald Trump is again creating these chimeras, these fictitious enemies. But it's always about attacking Canada. The 150 nations that he threw tariffs on,
Starting point is 00:08:03 including those poor little penguins down near South Africa, South America, he didn't even bother to put tariffs on Putin. He thinks Russia should have more trade. And yet Canada is his enemy. We are his enemy because we are a democratic nation because we believe in the rule of law. And we do not support people being thrown in concentration camps like we see in the United States. So Canada knows what we're dealing with now. We're going to have to really hunker down and we'll see what happens the next time Donald throws a tantrum. Is he going to talk again like he's done in the past when he threatened us? But this for us is a line in the sand moment. Where do we go from here, Charlie?
Starting point is 00:08:41 I mean, in general, I mean, you of course you and I have done interviews together where we're seeing the Canadian European Union Defense Pact. Canada is looking elsewhere. I did a segment last week about how the boycott is still going strong, if not stronger. And you and I were here saying it's remember they were saying, Charlie's gonna be eight to ten percent of a decrease and that would be crippling to the American economy It's been like closer to forty percent and I think it's really more than that. What what happens? well, I think they really a bigger picture here is That we need we see that ordinary Canadians and it's this is unprecedented ordinary Canadians understand what the threat is They understand that we're dealing with a nation on our border that is slipping away from the rule of law at a frightening rate but as we saw
Starting point is 00:09:32 in the United States we have you know a lot of the political class the thinkers who say well Trump is Trump and we can negotiate what we're learning is that you cannot negotiate with a gangster regime it is really now forcing everyone in the country to recognize that this is a line in the sand moment. This is about our sovereignty. This is about nationhood. This is about the rule of law. As we see our closest neighbor, you know, our people who've been our friends, our relatives, our cousins, in the Americas setting up concentration camps and bragging about it and bragging about the viciousness. So if where do we go from here?
Starting point is 00:10:11 Well, the boycott remains super strong, but the prime minister now we expect is going to come back with a very strong statement with the premiers and we have to go back dollar for dollar, pound for pound. It will hurt us. Yes, we are going to suffer, but the American economy has been rattled. They cannot raise money because nobody is going to invest right now with the chaos that Donald Trump is bringing, whether it's in the copper market, whether it's in ag, whether now it's just across the border attack on Canada. So the American people are going to have to start now
Starting point is 00:10:43 really feeling the pain. So this is where we're at. This is an abominable situation, but this is a man who is a malignant slug. He has no interest in the benefit of his own people. It's about him. And we cannot allow that kind of thuggery to interfere with our nation and our sovereignty. So I'm going to ask you to address two audiences now. First to the American people who are watching this and they don't like what Trump's doing or maybe some do.
Starting point is 00:11:14 I don't know. Most people who will be watching this don't like what he's doing. But first, direct your message to them and then I'll have another one for you. You know, to our friends in America, we are still your friends. We're still your cousins. We still want to see you, but we will never cross that border again as we watch the rule of law disintegrate. You are always welcome in Canada. Just leave the guns and leave the mega hats alone. But to our American allies who are struggling, you are the front line right now in
Starting point is 00:11:46 in the fight to protect democracy. We get it. Canadians understand that our anger, our rage is turned against the authoritarians, the billionaires, the oligarchs who are trying to destroy your nation and while they're destroying your nation, they think they can just walk all over ours. We're not going to let that happen, but remember that border now has to be defended and we will defend that border. Uh, because we may be in the early stages of much further attacks from Trump because he is unstable. We have to defend our country and we will defend our country. And now of course, you know, that the Trump regime watches this.
Starting point is 00:12:22 If Trump's watching this, what's your message to him? Donald, you're so bloody obvious. You know that the Trump regime watches this if Trump's watching this. What's your message to him? Donald You're so bloody obvious. There's not a single Canadian who woke up this morning and thought oh my god Donald's mad. Oh my god. Donald's threatening us like Donald. You've been doing this again and again It's like this bad broken record. We are sick of it. We are sick of your insults. We are sick of your lies. We are sick of the way you try and turn our nation away from our neighbors by making these false claims about us being a terrorist haven mode. Those Salvadorian gangs coming over the border about fence and all. Just stop, Donald. If you want to take our country over, you're going to have to do better than that because we will never ever give in. We
Starting point is 00:13:04 are true nor strong and free. We will never kiss the gangsters ring. And if we have to go dollar for dollar, pound for pound in fighting back until you taco again, because you have to explain to the American people why you are tanking their economy. Well, we will do that, but we will defend our nation. We will always be Canada. And no matter what you do, no matter what you threaten, we will be there longer than you because you will always taco. Charlie Angus, leader of the Resistance Tour, former member of parliament, thanks for joining us. Thank you so much.
