Is there anyone more symbolic of the modern-day MAGA Republican Party than George Santos? It's just a train wreck every single day and yet another disaster of George Santos' own making. We learned today that he simply failed to file his financial disclosures, just didn't file it at all when those are critical to the ethics investigations. And also,

Starting point is 00:02:14 his financial disclosures are at issue in the criminal case, federal criminal case against him in the Eastern District of New York. And then on the same day, we learned that his top campaign aide, someone by the name of Samuel Mealy, has been federally indicted as well for engaging in wire fraud and counterfeiting and impersonating Kevin McCarthy's chief of staff in order to bring in money for the Santos campaign by pretending he was McCarthy's chief of staff, creating a phony email account, sending phony email messages, and then earning commissions based on defrauding contributors to donate to Santos, saying that Kevin McCarthy was the one telling him to do that, which was completely false. Any response from Kevin McCarthy? Do you hear that? Because I hear crickets. Any response from

Starting point is 00:03:13 Republican leadership? Do you hear that? Because I only hear crickets. Nothing, zero. MAGA Republicans embrace this. This is their brand. The George Santos, Jim Jordan, James Comer, Chinese whistleblower, fake whistleblowers, fake audio recordings, abolish DOJ, abolish FBI folks. It's the modern day MAGA Republican all encapsulated into George Santos. That's who they are. I'm going to show you the indictment in just a moment. Let's talk about his financials in just a moment. But do you remember when Kevin McCarthy was just grinning just ear to ear and he was on Fox and he was asked, who has more power, Joe Biden or George Santos? And remember Kevin McCarthy said, oh, Joe Biden,

Starting point is 00:04:05 unfortunately. Play this clip of Kevin McCarthy. It's so despicable. Mr. Speaker, first, a very quick question. Who has more power, Joe Biden or George Santos? Well, right now, I think it is the president, Joe Biden, unfortunately. Remember, Kevin McCarthy was asked a few months into his failed tenure as the weakest speaker of the House in history about the fact that George Santos had a member of Santos's staff, this Mealy guy who's been federally indicted. It wasn't indicted at the time, now indicted, but it was known the guy was impersonating McCarthy's chief of staff. Everyone McCarthy was asked about it, he was like, I didn't know. Play this clip.

Starting point is 00:04:51 I never know all about his resume or not, but I always had a few questions about it. What about when you did the campaign pretending to be your chief of staff in his solicitation? You know, I didn't know about that. It happened, and I know they corrected, but I was not notified about that until a later date.

Starting point is 00:05:08 Did you speak to him about it at all? Yeah, I didn't know about it until a later date, though, unfortunately. It's like, do you care about anything? There's zero spine on these people. But, you know, it's intentional. Unfortunately, it seems like criminality has become their brand where everything is a witch hunt. Everything is rigged. Everyone is out to get him. Rigged against Trump. Rigged against Santos.

Starting point is 00:05:34 Rigged against the fake Chinese whistleblower. Rigged against the Russian oligarch who they also want to call in as their witness. People, what are we talking about? This was George Santos after Santos was indicted for wire fraud and engaging in unemployment insurance fraud and numerous other criminal counts. After Santos was arraigned, he said, it's a witch hunt. It's a witch hunt. Just parroting what Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans say about everything. Play this clip. Fight to defend myself. The reality is, is it's a witch hunt because it makes no sense that in four months,

Starting point is 00:06:14 four months, five months, I'm indicted. You have Joe Biden's entire family receiving deposits from nine, nine family members receiving money from foreign destinations into their bank accounts. It's been years of exposing. A lot of you here have reported on them and yet no investigation is launched into them. I'm going to fight. I'm getting back to that. I'm going to fight my battle. I'm going to deliver. I'm going to fight the witch hunt. I'm going to take care of clearing my name and I look forward to doing that. Also, do you remember when George Santos was one of the only people who showed up to the arraignment of Donald Trump when the Manhattan District Attorney indicted Trump back in March? And then you remember Santos showed up and then Santos realized that people

Here it is, United States of America against Samuel Mellie. Introduction to all counts during the 2020 and 2022 election cycles. Candidate number one, that's George Santos, an individual whose identity is known to the grand jury, was a candidate for election to the U.S. House of Representatives.

Starting point is 00:08:59 The defendant, Samuel Mellie, was a fundraiser for the campaign of George Santos during the 2020 and 2022 election cycles. Mele received a commission on the amount of money he raised for the campaign. The campaign was headquartered in Suffolk County, New York, and maintained a bank account at a branch in Suffolk County, New York. Person number one, an individual whose identity is known to the grand jury, was a high-ranking aide for a member of the House with Leadership Responsibilities. That's Kevin McCarthy's chief of staff. Here's the fraudulent scheme.

Starting point is 00:09:30 In or about and between August 21 and December 2021, the defendant, Samuel Mealy, falsely and without authorization impersonated person number one in both email and telephone communications with potential contributors for the purpose of soliciting financial contributions to support the campaign and enriching himself through commissions earned on these financial contributions to the campaign. In furtherance of this scheme, the defendant Samuel Mealy created an email account bearing the first letter and full last name of person number one. That's McCarthy's chief of staff. Falsely purporting to be person number one, Mealy used the account to send fraudulent fundraising solicitations to potential contributors to the campaign. Mealy signed such emails using person number one's full name and official title. Through this fraudulent scheme,

Starting point is 00:10:22 the defendant Samuel Mealy solicited contributions for the campaign from more than one dozen potential contributors where successfully raised these contributions were transferred through an intermediary service into the campaign bank account located in Suffolk County, New York. For his efforts, Mealy received a 15% contribution, 15% of each contribution. Person number one did not authorize defendant Samuel Mealy, candidate number one, or any other agents of the campaign to use person number one's name or other means of identification to solicit contributions for the campaign. On or about September 26, 2022, the defendant Samuel Mealy transmitted a letter to candidate number one, George Santos,

Starting point is 00:11:05 in which he admitted to faking my identity to a big donor, but stated he was high risk, big reward in everything I do. So basically, it seems like George Santos was in on it. I mean, George Santos, someone who's lied about everything in his life, where he went to high school, where he went to college, what his job is where he lived. Horrific things like his mother being in 9-11 and his father dying in 9-11. I mean, just like horrific lies saying that his grandparents were in the Holocaust. Well, that's 100% false. George Santos is someone who defrauded military veterans by saying that he was going to raise money to get their pets the care needed at veterinarian emergency rooms and then stole the money for himself. Like the worst person. George

Starting point is 00:11:53 Santos is the worst person. But a modern-day Republican, not resigning, not kicked off, no real repercussions taken against him by the modern-day MAGA Republican Party. He walks around the House of Representatives wearing AR-15 pins. It's utterly disgusting. And by the way, we also learned today, as I mentioned earlier in the video, that he missed the deadline to reveal what his finances are. And the filing of House financial disclosures was originally May 15th. There was an extension. He missed the August 13th deadline. And what's significant about it is we need to see his financial disclosures to determine the source of where was he getting all this money, especially the $700,000 he lent to his campaign. Santos isn't even responding at all, just not filing

Starting point is 00:12:46 the documents. He could be sanctioned up to $71,000 if he doesn't quickly file. His other filings were erroneous. It's one of the things he was charged with in the federal indictment. His next hearing is September 7th. George Santos has thus far, as you saw, pled not guilty and to the public says, witch hunt. There's a witch hunt taking place. Just really, really absurd stuff. And MAGA Republicans, again, crickets, crickets, crickets. But that's who they are today.
