Let's pull up the C-SPAN feed right now of the floor of the House of Representatives. Yesterday, on Tuesday, we had a situation where the first time
in essentially 100 years where somebody running for Speaker of the House did not achieve the
speakership in the first roll call vote. Of course, I am talking about Kevin McCarthy not only failing in the first roll call vote, but in the
second roll call vote, and then in the third roll call vote, an additional defection. So we have 20,
at least 20 Republican defections who are not supporting Kevin McCarthy for his speakership. We are now in a situation though today on day two
of this utter MAGA debacle, this utter MAGA pandemonium and chaos on the House floor where
Kevin McCarthy still does not have the vote. Shortly, we will play you some clips of some MAGA Republicans
who say there are now more defections than there were yesterday. The number 20, 20 defections is
going up. Is there 30? Is there 40? Is there 50 defections? But what we know for sure right now as of this live broadcast, as you watch what's going on on the House floor, is that Kevin McCarthy does not have the vote.
So here's what's going on, folks.
Kevin McCarthy wants to adjourn for the day. But in order to adjourn for today, they are going to need the support of the people who
oppose Kevin McCarthy, as well as all of the Democrats. And what we're hearing from reporting
as well is that the Democrats are not going to support adjourning for today. At least five
Republicans who don't support Kevin McCarthy, they don't want to adjourn today. So if that's
the case, there's going to be a fourth roll call vote that we're going to see. And in that fourth
roll call vote, Kevin McCarthy is going to lose again. Essentially, you have these MAGA extremists
who don't support Kevin McCarthy, although I would argue that Kevin McCarthy, by aiding and abetting and being complicit in MAGA extremism, is himself a MAGA extremist. But they're not letting him off
the hook today as he tries to adjourn, I don't know, throw another pizza party or something like
he tried to do last night when he removed the pizza from the main room. But the Democrats are
not going to let him adjourn. The Republicans who don't support Democrats are not going to let him adjourn. The Republicans who
don't support him are not going to let him to adjourn. So are they going to force yet another
vote, a fourth roll call vote for the purpose of humiliating Kevin McCarthy, this MAGA traitor?
So that is what we are watching right now. With that context, let me bring up the screen of what's going on on the house floor so you
can watch it for a few minutes.
We'll see if there's any dialogue going on that's worth listening to right now.
If there is, I'm going to let you watch that uninterrupted.
If there's just conversations like we're seeing now taking place, let me come back on and
I will give you some updates.
I want to show you some clips of some of the key statements made by Republicans who are not supporting Kevin McCarthy.
And let's revisit the past news for the past 24 hours with some blockbuster developments that have emerged in this saga where Kevin McCarthy does not have the confidence of
essentially anybody. We'll bring it to the House floor. Let's bring on the volume there,
and I'll be right back.
Counts 351 members. There is a quorum present.
The question recurs upon the election of a speaker. The tellers will
please come forward to take their seats. uh Thank you. So now that there is a quorum, there can be a vote, whether that's a vote to adjourn
or whether that is a vote, a fourth roll call vote, we will see. But one of the developments yesterday is Matt Gaetz sent a letter to the architect of the Capitol.
And in the letter to the architect of the Capitol, we're pulling it up right here.
He says to the architect of the Capitol that Kevin McCarthy is an unlawful squatter and he is unlawfully squatting in the Speaker's office. We showed you yesterday footage of Kevin
McCarthy prematurely moving in to the Speaker's office and gathering all of his belongings and
acting like it was a foregone conclusion that he would become the Speaker of the House, despite
the fact that he didn't have the votes. But here's the letter from Matt Gaetz to the architect of the Capitol.
He goes, Dear Mr. Blanton, I write to inform you that the Speaker of the House located
in the U.S. Capitol building, the office of the Speaker of the House, is currently occupied
by Representative Kevin McCarthy.
As of this morning, the 117th Congress adjourned and a speaker from the 118th Congress has
not been elected.
After three undeciding votes, no members can lay claim to this office. What is the basis in law,
house rule, or precedent to allow somebody like Kevin McCarthy to claim this office? That is the
letter from Matt Gaetz saying, please write back immediately and promptly. And so
harsh words there from Matt Gaetz calling Kevin McCarthy a squatter. I want to pull up this clip
from earlier, though, from Morning Joe. And in this clip from Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough,
who was a former Republican member of Congress, I think puts it best.
He says, look, you don't wing it.
Like, what's Kevin McCarthy doing?
You don't just show up, move your stuff in and wing it.
This is below Bush League at this point.
I'm going to play that clip in a moment. But you're watching right now on the screen, Kevin McCarthy, again, looking alone and isolated.
People on the Republican side of the aisle look completely
confused. Here, let's play this clip from Joe Scarborough saying, don't wing it. Actually,
before we do that, let's go back to the House floor right now. There's someone speaking. Let's
play the clip. Kevin McCarthy looking quite pathetic.
The gentleman is recognized.
Well, Saul, take a second.
Take a look around.
I know people are getting frustrated. look at this chamber and realize how lucky we are to serve this country in Congress. How lucky we
all are, Democrats and Republicans, to be citizens of the greatest country in the history of the world. for those wondering yes george santos invented clapping
we can go back to the clapping i was just doing a joke that george santos invented
clapping someone in the chat put it in there and it's a good quote
he's definitely out of order madam clerk i say that because i know last night people
were frustrated they wanted to go to parties they want to take pictures with their families
but honestly we find ourselves here in this chamber for the second day we know we got work
to do but in some ways there's no place i'd rather be. With the possible exception of Lambeau Field on Sunday, no place I'd rather be.
But maybe with the excitement, some of you hadn't had an opportunity to check what's happening online,
let me fill you in, or what's happening on Twitter, what the press is writing about.
In some ways, they're salivating.
There's headlines about the chaos, this and that. Yesterday, our colleagues
on the other side of the aisle were tweeting their bags of popcorn that they had out.
They love it. The schadenfreude is palpable. But I think my friends on the Democratic side
misunderstand what's happening here. Sure, it looks messy, But democracy is messy. Democracy is messy by by design, by design.
And they're watching a complete clown, by the way.
That's a feature, not a bug of our system. We air it all out in the open for the American people to see, Because at the end of the day, the president's not in charge.
The Supreme Court's not in charge.
The Speaker of the House is not even in charge.
The American people are in charge.
Yeah, throw up those clown emojis in the chat right now.
And I'm proud to be part of a party that welcomes debate, that invites different views, that isn't afraid of that.
Now, I listened to some of my colleagues yesterday.
Mr. Roy from Texas, my good friend, he knows I respect his views. I have been his partner
in anti-proxy voting crusades, pro-regular order crusades. I understand. I know that his intentions
are pure. I know a lot of people are just frustrated with the way Congress works, but,
and Chip, you know I believe that in my bones, nobody has done more to lay out a plan for how we restore the basic functioning
of this institution than Kevin McCarthy. Nobody. Nobody has done that.
Now, you may not have gotten everything you wanted. There are things I want that I know it's just not possible to get done in this Congress. But Mr. McCarthy has gone above and
beyond in terms of listening to people with concerns and laying out a plan for how we restore
the basic functioning of the House of Representatives. Furthermore, I believe no one
has done more to bring us into the majority
than Kevin McCarthy. I wish we had a bigger majority, right? I wish we could do everything
over the next two years. But the American people gave us an opportunity. They gave us Republicans an opportunity to inject some basic common sense into the federal government to pull the emergency brake on a lot for the direction we want to take this country in more detail than Kevin McCarthy.
You all had an opportunity to provide input.
Kevin McCarthy looking very alone, isolated, like a complete coward.
This speech, which could only be described as parody, continues to go on.
We'll bring you more of it, just to show you what's going on.
I want to give you the commentary.
This is complete misinformation.
You're watching a clown right now, completely lie.
But we'll put him back on the screen.
Right?
There are basic things we know we need to do.
It is time to get to work.
So you might tweet out some more popcorn emojis.
I get it.
You might write your headlines.
But what I see right now is energy, a tremendous amount of energy in this Republican caucus who want to do the work of the people.
Mr. McCarthy is not asking you to endorse business as usual in the House. He's laid out a plan to renew the House of
Representatives and once again make it an institution that we can credibly look
ourselves in the mirror and say we are working in the people's house. For that
and many other reasons,
I nominate Kevin McCarthy for Speaker of the House.
Well, there you saw a speech from Congress member Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin.
Madam Clerk, I rise to nominate Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker of this House. The gentleman is recognized.
Madam Clerk, make no mistake, there is no frustration on our side.
We are focused on serving the American people.
In order to do that, we have to unite behind a speaker.
And Democrats are united behind a speaker who prioritizes putting better-paying jobs
in industries of the future.
Growing up in a working-class family, he knows that a good-paying job and a good education
are key to economic mobility.
He knows that to tackle the affordability crisis in this country, we need to make sure that everybody gets paid enough to live and work in any zip code.
And he knows that by creating these jobs, we can once again make it in America.
Madam Clerk, as chair of the Democratic Caucus, I am directed by that vote of the caucus to
present for election to the 118th Congress, the Honorable Hakeem Jeffries, Representative-Elect for the
State of New York, with the Office of Speaker. For what purpose does the gentleman from Texas rise?
I seek to place a nomination for speaker.
The gentleman from Texas rise. I seek to place a nomination for Speaker.
The gentleman is recognized.
Yesterday, my first vote for Speaker of the House was for Byron Donalds.
Today, I'm rising to nominate Byron Donalds for Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Byron is a dear friend, a solid conservative, but most importantly, a family man who loves dearly his wife Erica,
his three children,
has a proven track record as a businessman,
public service in the Florida legislature,
and now is a member of the United States Congress.
Now, here we are, and for the first time in history,
there have been two black Americans placed into the nomination for Speaker of the House. Thank you. Madam Speaker, order.
Madam Clerk, order.
We do not seek to judge people by the color of their skin,
but rather the content of their character.
Byron Donalds is a good man raised by a single mom who moved past adversity, became a Christian man at the age of 21, and has devoted his life to advancing the cause for his family
and for this country.
And he has done it admirably.
But there's an important reason for nominating Byron.
And that is, this country needs a change.
This country needs leadership that does not reflect this city, this town, that is badly broken.
The House of Representatives is the people's house.
It represents the entirety of our country, and we each represent some 750,000 people.
And we come here, and here we sit in a room filled with those
representatives. And my friend, Mr. Gallagher, and he is my friend, and I agree with him on many
things, and I agree with almost everything that you were talking about. But we should be in here
having this kind of a conversation with this many people in the room about Ukraine.
And we should debate the merits.
And we should debate the ups and downs of being involved.
We should debate the $45 billion.
We should debate whether it should be more or less.
We should debate whether it should be paid for.
We should debate what the result we should demand. The only way you're going to get that is if you change the rules and
have the leadership to advance the rules to make sure that we can do that.
Now, we've had a conversation for two months to try to advance the ball, and we have had success
in doing that, but we're not there. We're not at the place where
we need to be to guarantee, to guarantee that we're going to be able to stand up in the face
of the swamp that continues to step over the American people on a daily basis and spend money
we don't have, and to continue to leave our borders open, and to continue to fund bureaucrats
that are stepping over the freedoms of the American people. Byron will stand up and do that. Byron has a track
record of doing that. And importantly, when we're sitting here today and we continue this debate,
when them have a vote, I just ask my friends on this side of the aisle,
do you think that the American people support the status quo?
Yes or no?
Do you think that the American people want us to continue down the road of what we've been doing? Do they want us to continue to do the things since the leadership that's currently in
place have been in place? Do you think they want us to continue down that path? And the argument
that I would make is that they want a new face, new vision, new leadership. And I believe that
face, vision, and new leadership is Byron
Donalds, and I'm proud to put his name in the nomination, and I yield back.
The reading clerk will call the roll.
All right, folks.
So we are on the fourth roll call vote right now.
A quorum was established.
Earlier, Elise Stefanik, the member of Congress from New York who's closely aligned with Kevin McCarthy,
tried to make it seem like there wouldn't be a quorum because they wanted to adjourn for the day. Democrats and those opposing Kevin
McCarthy's speakership, though, would not let an adjournment happen, would not let Kevin McCarthy
host day two of his pizza party to try to delay, delay, delay. And we are going to see a fourth roll call vote. And after seeing
Congress member Chip Roy just endorse Congress member Byron Donalds to become the speaker of
the House. Yesterday, it was Jim Jordan who received 20 votes, 20 defections away from
Kevin McCarthy. Let's see if Byron Donalds now would be in his second term,
whether Byron Donalds will get 19, 20, or even more votes. Byron Donalds is particularly
notable here because he was supporting Kevin McCarthy on the first two roll call votes yesterday, then defected in the third roll call vote, voted for
Jim Jordan. Let's just go down to the House floor for a moment, see some of the voting,
and then let's go back. And I want to pull up some of these clips of Byron Donalds talking about
his defection, not announcing that he would actually be challenging Kevin McCarthy as the
speaker. But that appears to be what's taking place. And it does seem that Kevin McCarthy will
not win this fourth roll call vote. He will lose for the fourth time, but that still is to be
determined. We will watch the numbers and the key numbers to look for on the right is you're going to want to look for Donald's and see if Donald's is going to get more than five votes.
And will it be 19? Will it be 20? Will there be more defections as well?
Kevin McCarthy needs 218. Let's go back to the House floor, see some of the counting, and then we'll be back shortly.
McCarthy. house floor, see some of the counting, and we'll be back shortly. Byron. Jeffries. Bynes.
McCarthy.
Biggs.
Donalds.
And there you see Andy Biggs, who yesterday voted for Jim Jordan, now voting for Byron Donalds. Andy Biggs is part of
that contingency of 20 defectors from Kevin McCarthy. That's a good indication that Donalds
is going to get a similar amount of votes as Jim Jordan received yesterday. We'll see ultimately if that number goes up to 20.
Let's keep watching those numbers.
Pay close attention to the number of Donalds who just received his second vote for speaker.
McCarthy at 17, Jeffries at 10.
And as the counting's taking place, let me show you this clip, though, of an interview that Byron Donalds did with CNN before this vote, before today's vote, where he talked about chaos is okay sometimes.
I don't think people knew at the time that Byron Donalds would be the direct challenger to Kevin McCarthy when he said this, but I guess his words were prescient.
Play the clip.
We're pulling up that clip in one moment. And as we wait for that clip, I want to also reflect,
though, on that speech that was given by Congress member Gallagher, was the first speech endorsing Kevin McCarthy. And in that speech, I think that's a lot of the
gaslighting and performative kind of BS that Americans are just so angry about. I mean,
of course, we're all angry about the fact that these MAGA extremists are traitors and they are
utter and complete fascists. And as I'm speaking,
you see the votes for Donald's continues to increase now for votes for Donald's. But,
you know, to have a Congress member Gallagher go up there and say, what we saw yesterday was
incredible. What we saw yesterday was great. This is healthy. This is what we want to see. This just shows our
strength. No, it doesn't. It shows your utter chaos. It shows that you don't know how to govern.
It shows that there is no leadership at all. And by the way, when, just to give you context
about Representative Byron Donalds, he's someone who objected to, he's an election denier. He objected to the
certification of the electoral votes. This is the alternative to Kevin McCarthy. Kevin McCarthy,
who himself election denier, goes to Mar-a-Lago. But this is who the MAGA Republicans are putting
up. Byron Donalds objecting to the,, objected to the certification of the 2020 election. A MAGA
extremist here. Let's play the clip. I think we got it now. It means that we actually take this
stuff seriously. We're not just going to be a role because party leadership says so. It means
there is going to be a deliberative process. It means there's going to be a lot of discussion.
That's what the House of Representatives is. For far too long in this town, everything has
just been go along to get along. And I think those days are long over in Washington, D.C.
Well, some would say it looks like chaos. Oh, chaos is okay sometimes. Listen, there's nothing
wrong with disagreements. Nothing wrong with disagreement. We are, in our families at home,
we have disagreements. So we're not going to have disagreements here in the nation's capital.
I think, you know, the veneer, the show of politics has sometimes gotten people off of what this thing really is.
There's always give and take here. There's always negotiations. There seems to always be some cliff or some leverage points happening here.
So because there's disagreements right now does not mean that the place doesn't function.
As a matter of fact, I think that the fact that there are disagreements and still conversations show that it can still function and work as it was
intended to work. Okay, we'll see if they get to a breakthrough today. Thank you so much for joining
us. We'll wait to see how you vote today since you said you could switch your vote back. Thank
you for joining us. So that was earlier in the morning. Be interesting to see how you vote.
Didn't know at that time when he gave the interview that he'd likely be voting for himself to become Speaker of the House.
But as we see now, Akeem Jeffries, the Democratic leader, taking the lead over Kevin McCarthy.
Let's see if that Donald's number ticks up one more to five.
And as we wait to see if that happens, let's play this next clip of Byron Donald's as well in another interview he gave saying similar things.
Play the clip.
Are you going to stick with Kevin McCarthy on the third ballot, fourth ballot, fifth ballot, whatever it takes?
Look, I'm actually thinking about all that right now.
The one thing that's clear is he doesn't have the votes. And so at some point as a conference, we're going to have to figure out who does. And so I think every member is having that thought process right now.
Obviously, we have some who are definite no's. We have some who say they're going to be yeses
all the way into 100 ballots or 10 ballots or whatever they're saying. But there's a lot of
members who are thinking about this right now, because at the end of the day, we do have a responsibility to get the House organized in order
to move forward with the 118th Congress. So are you willing to vote for Congressman Jim Jordan,
who got 19 votes last time? I said Jim will be a great speaker. I'm not saying anything against him.
I'm open to whoever can now close this deal, because that's where we are. You got to close
the deal. At the end of the day, somebody's got to be able to get the votes.
And when you get the votes, we can go ahead and organize Congress.
And so I think that's what I'm looking for.
I think there's a lot of members in the chamber right now
who are looking for the same thing.
And Kevin McCarthy has not closed the deal,
and we can project here on the Midas Touch Network now officially
that Kevin McCarthy will almost certainly lose the fourth
roll call vote after five votes turned against him in favor of Donald's. Kevin McCarthy will be
humiliated yet again. The question now just becomes how humiliated he will be. Will there be
more defections this time to Byron Donalds?
But yes, Kevin McCarthy, it is now official, will lose the fourth roll call vote.
He will again be humiliated.
Buckle up, folks.
Today looks like round two of McCarthy being humiliated and humiliated even more there. And we have indication as well that
there may be even some additional defections taking place today. A number of Republicans
who were part of the group of defectors went on various media channels and said that they expected there to be more defections as well
to come today.
One of them is Ralph Norman, who went on the Steve Bannon show, who said, quote, we're
growing in numbers and we're going to stay here as long as it takes.
They all said it was only going to be five of us.
Well, they're wrong.
There will be more than 20 of us today. So if we got that clip,
can we play Ralph Norman's clip? The 1.7 trillion omnibus is a total
robbery of the national treasury. And we're just simply the 20 of us. We're growing in numbers.
And we're going to stay here as long as it takes. We don't have an exit strategy. We're losing our freedom.
And I think I just applaud, you know, they all said that it was only going to be five of us.
Well, they're wrong.
There will be more than 20 of us today.
And so, you know, if we don't handle it now, then when?
But when do we face it?
Kevin McCarthy has not got a track record
of being a fiscal conservative. When I mentioned, as you said, about when he agreed to that,
that's a very simple question. Any leader would have had that mapped out if it were important to
him. And he said, no, he's late or come back. But it's too little too late. We get on the rules that you keep hearing about, which were common sense.
We gave him six, eight weeks ago crickets.
He didn't say anything because he didn't think he needed us.
He thought the red wave would come and he could just roll over us.
Well, that didn't happen.
We had a meeting yesterday.
And what happened?
They threatened us with taking us off committee assignments.
They threatened us we had to vote for McCarthy or this and that would happen.
Well, let them do it.
I mean, it's ludicrous, the thought process that spending a day, a month, a week, it doesn't matter,
picking the leader, the most powerful position, makes sense.
And we're going to stick in here and do it.
And I think the public is getting a front row seat, as John Frederick
mentioned. This is a movement, and it should be a movement. It's for the sake and freedom of saving
this country. Well, there you have it. Ralph Norman saying there's going to be more defections.
We're going to keep an eye to see if there is more defections. This was also echoed by MAGA Republican Pete Sessions
in an interview he gave with CNN
saying that there was likely more defections.
I think we have that clip.
Let's pull that one up as well.
Do you think that Donald Trump's statement
that he put out urging people to vote for Kevin McCarthy,
do you think that changes the dynamic at all?
I am hearing that the 19 are growing their vote.
Growing their vote.
So that would tell me that that's what they seem to indicate.
I'm listening to both sides.
We need to resolve this, and we need to get to a resolution.
But I think it's incumbent upon the what I would call my friends
in the Freedom Caucus to decide who they're for to begin a real negotiation, as opposed to going
to the floor, re-voting, and having, you know, picking up two or three votes at a time. I think
it's going to require real discipline and real collegiality. Discipline and collegiality, not exactly words
that I would use to describe anything close to a modern day Republican. He did reference
in that interview or was referenced statements coming out by Donald Trump. First, let me show
you the statement that Trump
put out last night. This is a statement he put out on his social media platform after Kevin
McCarthy failed to secure the speakership after the first three ballots. And we had also heard
that Donald Trump was not committing yesterday evening to supporting Kevin McCarthy when he was asked directly by a reporter.
He is supporting Kevin McCarthy today, but we see not only is that not helping, it seems to be absolutely hurting Kevin McCarthy even more.
This just shows that Donald Trump has absolutely no power at all.
He looks weaker than ever.
But here's this horrible and weird
statement that he put out yesterday. He goes, there's so much unnecessary turmoil in the
Republican Party, in large part to people like the old broken crow, Mitch McConnell, his wife,
Coco Chow, who is a sellout to China and their rhino allies who make it difficult for everyone
else by constantly capitulating to hopeless Joe Biden and the
Democrats. The $1.7 trillion Green New Deal, quote, booster that McConnell and the RINOs handed to
the Dems last week was a real downer and embarrassment to Republicans. What an
embarrassment to our country right there that Donald Trump is saying that the reason Kevin
McCarthy cannot get the speakership
is it was such a downer that the omnibus bill passed and blaming Kevin McCarthy, who, by the
way, secured his leadership of the Republican Party in the Senate quite easily, and then making
those xenophobic and hateful statements about Elaine Chao, who was Trump's cabinet secretary
of the Department of Transportation, and saying just these horrible and hateful things about Elaine Chao, who was Trump's cabinet secretary of the Department of
Transportation, and saying just these horrible and hateful things. This is everything that is
wrong with MAGA Republican Party. This, of course, George Santos saga is going on as well. I'll show
you some more clips of Santos a little later on in this broadcast. But this is what Donald Trump put out this morning.
He said some really good conversations took place last night, and it's now time for all of our great
Republican House members to vote for Kevin, close the deal, take the victory, and watch crazy Nancy
Pelosi fly back home to a very broken California, the only speaker in U.S. history
to have lost the House twice. Republicans do not turn a great triumph into a giant embarrassment
defeat. It's time to celebrate. You deserve it. Kevin McCarthy will do a good job and maybe even
a great job. Just watch. And then Trump posted other things like, take the victory and run!
Exclamation point, exclamation point, because I have a vocabulary of a petulant third grader.
And then his other one was, if Republicans are going to fight, we ought to be fighting Mitch
McConnell and his domineering China-loving boss, I mean wife, Coco Chow. The harm they have done
to the Republican Party is incalculable.
Today, he couldn't be elected dog catcher in Kentucky. Sadly, he only won because of my
endorsement went up 21 points. Sorry. I mean, the xenophobia, the hate, the misogyny, the desperation
that just drips from these posts. I think I've never seen him weaker than ever. And what we're seeing on the
House floor right now is complete chaos, complete and utter humiliation. This is who the MAGA
Republican Party is. And this is at a time where what you had that Congress member Gallagher from
Wisconsin endorse Kevin McCarthy earlier in the day and tried to say
with the speech, this is what the American people want to see. This shows that we look great. No,
it shows you all are out of your freaking minds. It shows that you're not just fascists,
but you are completely incompetent losers. And here at the Midas touch network, sorry,
we're just going to call a spade a spade. We're going to call traitors traitors. We're going to call fascists fascists. And we're? He wants the support. He wants the help
of Democrats right now. Absolutely not. There's no one to bail you out. You thought that these
MAGA extremists were your ticket to the speakership? No, they are your ticket to utter
humiliation. And here's the dynamic, folks. The psychology, the pathology of McCarthy, Gates, Roy. Look,
these are people who would shut down the government, would destroy the United States
of America, would terminate the Constitution so that it made them feel good so they could
preserve their privilege. That's what we're dealing with, folks. I mean, how would we ever even deal with issues like the debt ceiling with this crew right
here? These people are out of their mind fascists. And so how does this deadlock break? You have
Kevin McCarthy, who has been humiliated his whole life. He just may keep getting humiliated round after round after
round. It's clearly there's no confidence in him. Are we going to see 10 more rounds of this today?
If it is, get your cup of coffee, get your mug of tea. Let's go. Let me show you, though,
what President Biden in team normal, in world normal, what is going on right there. So what President Biden said to the
press and to, you know, Ducey at Fox, Biden's like, look, for the first time in 100 years,
you can't move. And think about how that's impacting us internationally. Like, just think
about how the world is looking at us right now. We've got that clip of President Biden from earlier in the day.
Let's play it. things are settling out and now for the first time in 100 years you can't move i mean i really
mean it i know you know international relations it's not a good look it's not a good thing
it's the united states of america and i hope they get their act together
i think president biden said it great right there i I mean, look, this is the United States of Staff, who talked about how he had to do
constant shuttle diplomacy with our counterparts, both allies and adversaries, who under the Trump
administration thought our nation was crazy. They thought the United States of America had lost its
mind. They were worried that Trump would launch a nuke. And General Milley had to go and let everybody know
and reassure them. And you're just watching, by the way, we pull it up on C-SPAN, Hakeem Jeffries
just voted for himself. And there was a rousing round of applause there as Hakeem Jeffries,
with that vote, is again taking the lead over Kevin McCarthy on the
speakership.
This would likely be the fourth roll call vote that Hakeem Jeffries wins.
But as we try to improve our standing again internationally, and as we did as President
Biden stabilized things, you're now seeing the Republicans who objected to the electoral count, the Republicans who wanted to turn our democracy into a weirdo, fascist, dangerous Trump cult world.
They were so fine doing that.
We had to restore our position in the world.
We did, and now we're seeing this same group of traitors and fascists continue, continue with the chaos and the disorder and the inability to govern, the inability to lead.
And now it's being exposed for all of America and all the world to see.
It's not an issue about politics.
It's an issue about these MAGA Republicans and that everything Trump turns or
touches dies. And to that point, I want to show you this clip right here from Joe Scarborough from
earlier in the day. And I want to show that Joe Scarborough was like, how are you just winging
this? How are you just winging this right now? Like this is the ultimate Bush league.
It used to be that Republicans were organized. It used to be that Republicans knew how to govern,
but hated people. And it used to be that Democrats didn't know how to govern, but had these lofty
ideas and could win elections or bring people together. Now you have Republicans who just
simply can't govern.
And the answer is staring you all in the face
because the Republican Party sold its soul
to someone who bankrupted every single thing
that he touched his entire life.
And now it's the Republican Party's turn.
It used to be Atlantic City and Trump Tower and stake
and this and that.
Now it's the Republican Party.
Here, play this clip of Scarborough. I think it was really powerful. This is what's so for me and I think for Nancy
Pelosi and for other people who actually know how to do this sort of stuff, what's so confounding?
You take a vote where you don't know the outcome of the vote on the House floor that you just,
I'm sorry, that's not even a rookie mistake.
That's just Bush league. And you wonder how a guy is in Congress that long where he doesn't
know the outcome of this thing. You don't listen. You don't wing it. You don't wing it when the
whole world's watching and your career is on the line. But that's exactly what happened yesterday.
I really, you know, it's interesting hearing Michael Beschloss talk about the Republican
Party that it was actually once seen as the party that knew how to get things done.
I'm reminded of the Simpsons episode where they went to the Democratic and the Republican
conventions. And I think the Republicans unhurled a huge banner that said, we don't like people. And then they went to the Democratic
Party that unhurled a banner that said, we can't govern. And that that applies, of course,
to this Republican Party. Now we can't govern again. this is just this is just a follow up to a disastrous 2022.
This is only happening because Republicans screwed up the midterm so horribly. They should
have won by 30, 40, 50 seats. They should have won the Senate. They should have they
should have had that red wave that all their Republican pollsters were predicting, but they didn't. And now they compound the problem by looking like complete fools in front of the entire world. And
those swing voters out there that are looking at this, they're going,
OK, yeah, it's a good thing I didn't vote for Republicans because
they really they're they just they don't know how to govern. Not only do they not know how to govern,
they lie and gaslight and everything they say is wrong.
Every single thing they say is wrong.
It's a false bravado to cover up what weak, petulant,
little, know-nothing people that they are it's all projection to make up for the fact that
they're so little they're such traitors they don't know what they're doing here play this clip this
is yesterday this is kevin mccarthy striding in confidently yesterday saying,
we're going to have a good day today.
He said this yesterday.
Play the clip.
McCarthy, you got the votes yet? I don't know.
I'm dead today. Mr. McCarthy, you got the votes yet?
We're going to have a good day today, he says.
And he was striding in like they're going to have a great day.
I mean, just put that in the context of, oh, we're going to do this policy.
We're going to do that policy.
We're going to do this policy. We're going to do that policy. We're going to do this. Every single thing they do is a complete and utter lie and a gaslight. And to Joe Scarborough's point,
you just wing it. Like when you told everybody it's going to be a great day,
wouldn't the right leadership thing do there? First off, you say, George Santos, get the hell out of here, George Santos, you freaking fraud trader.
I'm trying to act like a leader.
Get out of here, George Santos.
Get the heck out of here, number one.
And number two, don't you say, look, we have a difficult situation that's going to be occurring.
We don't know what the outcome is going to be.
I'm going to make the case for my leadership, but we have a difficult day ahead of us.
At least you set the expectations where you don't look like a complete and utter clown here. Do we
have the clip of McCarthy walking in today? So that was the clip of him walking in yesterday.
I think we may have the clip of him walking in today. So that was the clip of him walking in yesterday. I think we
may have the clip of him walking in today. Let's play this today. And so he walked through the public rotunda as well,
which is a bit odd, like where they give Capitol tours. So that's kind of strange, you know,
in and of itself. But can we compare and contrast here for a second? Do we have the Democratic
Congress member Aguilar and what he said yesterday, where he said, look, this is the true character of the modern day Republican Party that we're seeing.
If we've got that clip, we play on that.
Democrats are unified. House Democrats are unified. You saw that yesterday.
We're unified behind lowering costs, creating good-paying jobs, and building safer communities.
The contrast between House Democrats on the chaos and confusion taking place
on the other side of the aisle could not be more clear.
For the first time in 100 years, there was not an agreement for Speaker of the House
on the first ballot. Multiple ballots, and almost 24 hours later,
there's still no clear sign of a speaker. Let's hope that this
isn't a rerun of 1855 and 56 when it took 133 ballots. What we saw was the true character
of the modern day Republican Party, obsessed with power and their own personal advancement
at the expense of working families and the needs of everyday Americans.
So I want to play you another clip of him. But before I do that, I want to read this quote by the coach Stan Van Gundy. He goes, you have to feel for Kevin McCarthy. He thought this
was all about kissing Trump's ring or something else. And he did that. He dedicated himself
to principalist psychofancy. And still he is having to beg for votes. Poor guy.
Although I disagree. I don't feel bad for him even for a second. But to his point, he thought
that in order to get this speakership, which he wanted so badly, he had to suck up to Donald Trump
and do whatever Donald Trump said and embrace Marjorie Taylor Greene, destroy our democracy. And yet he still did not get
the speakership. And now he's been humiliated four times as the defections right now stand at
14 defections. This is a clip yesterday of Congress member Pete Aguilar on the House floor, also throwing some additional shade.
Play the clip. Today, Madam Clerk, House Democrats are united. united united and look democrats have a lot of factions there's a lot of uh things that need to
be pulled together to get democratic unity but it's not even so much about democratic unity as it is about pro-democracy. There's a reason why there is this mass exodus
away from mega extremism. You're watching it right now. It's against our constitution. They're
against our democracy institutions. It's a cult. It's QAnon stuff. And they're incompetent. And they're utterly and
completely weak. There's only one major political party right now, and that's the Democrats who
supports our Constitution, what the Constitution really means. That supports our democracy. That
supports our institutions. Do I agree with Democrats and President Biden on all issues? No, of course not. And that would be absolutely weird if I did. But I know that when it comes to issues like health care, jobs, education, protecting a woman's right to control her own body without the MAGA Republicans trying to arrest her, when it comes to protecting people's
right to marry who they love, when it comes to infrastructure, when it comes to bringing
manufacturing jobs here, when it comes to supporting our veterans. We see the footage
of MAGA Republicans fist bumping each other because they blocked veterans getting life
saving care with exposure to toxic burn pits. They're
celebrating the same type of performative bullshit you're watching here on the House
floor to block Kevin McCarthy. They did that with our troops. They did that with our veterans.
This is who the MAGA Republican Party is. And you just saw Nancy Pelosi cast her vote for Hakeem Jeffries,
as well as they are 16 defections right now from Kevin McCarthy. He's nowhere close,
nowhere close to getting the speakership. And the MAGA Republican Party is being exposed at each and every moment. So what is Fox saying all about this? I want to
show you a clip from Hannity from last night. This was their Fox alert. And in their Fox alert,
they said, House Republicans now are on the verge of becoming a total clown show. That's what they're saying on Fox. I think the
word verge is doing a lot of work here, but let's play this clip of Hedity.
New year with the Fox News alert. It is day one of the 188th Congress and House Republicans now
are on the verge of becoming a total clown show if they're not careful. But despite the cheering and the elation from Democrats and the mob and the media,
it's not a dire situation yet.
Not a dire situation yet.
Let's play the clip of Janine Pirro from The Five yesterday
after Kevin McCarthy fouled on three roll call votes.
If we've got that clip, let's put it up right now so we can see how Fox is responding.
How are they taking this? Play the clip.
And McCarthy's still confident he's going to be speaker eventually.
Keep this in mind until Republicans can agree on a speaker.
The House is basically frozen, meaning they can't even swear
in new members or investigate Biden like they promised. Judge Jeanine. Yes. Not a good look
for Republicans today. No. The ordinary American is sitting home and saying, what the heck is wrong
with these people? We elected them. We worked hard. We gave them money. We now have the majority in the House and they can't
get along with each other. They don't they don't like have enough problems with the Democrats that
they at least can't align against the Democrats. Here's. There you have it, what Fox is talking
about. Here's a video of George Santos, the total MAGA fraud trader. Before I play this clip, let's pull up what we're seeing on the house
floor right now is Chip Roy. They go alphabetically, so we're on R right now.
Chip Roy just cast his vote for Byron Donalds. And so there you see it again, folks. There's
that number I was telling you to look for, 19 Republican defections. 19 defections
were in roll call round one, in roll call round two, and then in roll call round three with Byron
Donalds defecting, it was 20. So let's just keep an eye on that number as well. But yesterday we
saw the George Santos saga play out, if that's even his name,
the complete MAGA fraud who's lied about where he went to college. He didn't go to college at all,
where he worked. He didn't work at Citigroup. He didn't work at Goldman Sachs. I guess
Citigroup-ish, Goldman Sachs-ish, he lied about his religion. He lied that his mom died on 9-11. He lied that his mom was a
9-11 survivor. He lied that his dad was a 9-11 survivor. He lied that four of his employees were
killed in the Pulse nightclub shooting. He lied that his grandparents were Holocaust survivors.
He lied that his mom's maiden name was Zabrowski. He lied about his charity. How did he get all of these millions
of dollars out of nowhere when he claimed to be a landlord, which he lied about as well?
He was evicted twice because he didn't have the money to pay rent. And then he took this position
about how angry he was at squatters when he was evicted twice. This is the MAGA fraud trader who MAGA can't call out, who Kevin McCarthy can't
go. You know what? This person is bad. This person is not good at all. And I think we have some
footage today of McConnell at this meeting with Biden. If we have this today, this is what's going on in adult land,
in an adult world where people try to continue our government. And look, one of the strange
things about this all is it makes Mitch McConnell look like a fairly reasonable and rational throwback to the days of collegiality?
And I don't want to say that. I mean, look, McConnell was absolutely a disaster with Obama,
said we are going to make sure that we destroy Obama's presidency. And McConnell is an utter
disaster. But look, I think McConnell realizes that you've got people like George Santos
picking his nose, representing the Republicans. Play this clip of Santos picking his nose
yesterday while he's all alone and that the MAGA traitors are too afraid to say,
get the hell out of here, Santos. play the clip. Rolling his boogers. You got the complete fraud trader sitting there.
And I think you got people like McConnell saying, holy crap, like these people are going to destroy
the United States of America. Yeah, Mitch, you enabled it. And as we see right now, boom, the number hit 20, 20, not a single less defection
than we had yesterday. Again, utter, complete, total humiliation for Kevin McCarthy. And guess what? No one is going to let them
adjourn. They are going to let him get humiliated round after freaking round today. That's Elise
Stefanik right there, who is aiding and enabling this catastrophe. What a catastrophe she is going and acting like she is a moderate acting like
she is, you know, someone who would be dealing with things rationally. She's a New York
member of Congress and she sold, she did a, she did a Kevin McCarthy. She did a complete 180, leaned into MAGA extremism, election denialism,
objecting to the certification of a free and fair election, spreading this MAGA disease
in our country. And this is the byproduct out there. While you got McConnell and President
Biden meeting in Kentucky to talk about infrastructure,
to talk about what makes our country truly strong.
You know, for four years, Trump, infrastructure week, infrastructure week,
infrastructure week this, infrastructure week that.
And at the end of the day, he couldn't even put it on a piece of paper.
He couldn't even get any infrastructure
done at all. And President Biden comes in, does infrastructure. I look to Mitch McConnell's
credit. Mitch McConnell realized infrastructure is good for the country. What's bad for the country
is seeing how ridiculous these MAGA Republicans are here. Do we have this clip of Elise Stefanik
that we could pull up right now,
Salty, if we're able to play this Elise Stefanik and Kevin McCarthy yesterday. You're seeing right now the headline on C-SPAN, which we projected
many, many, many minutes ago that McCarthy does not have the votes as well. And so will there be
a fifth roll call vote as well? We will see if that transpires where McCarthy's going to lose again. I want to show
you this clip though also because as this humiliation is taking place in the House of
Representatives, let me show you what was also going on yesterday with that MAGA fraud trader,
George Santos, as he was walking through the halls getting asked some pretty basic questions by
members of the press. This is what took place yesterday. If we've got that clip, let's run it
right now. Your constituents, do you feel like you're qualified to serve in this Congress right
now? How do you hope your constituents can trust you even though that you've misrepresented your
biography to them? What's your response to calls for a House ethics investigation by Nick La Lota?
Do you have any statements about your campaign and how you hope to govern?
Do you hope to carry out your full term?
What can you say to reassure your constituents that you'll do what you said you were going to do on the campaign trail as well, voting for Kevin McCarthy. Everybody remember
yesterday, we actually were the ones who discovered this clip here at the Midas Touch Network, and
I think it's since been viewed about 4 million times on Twitter, but we caught AOC and Matt
Gates having a conversation, and AOC has now said what was going on in that conversation. But
for those who remember, we were just watching it here on C-SPAN. I said,
is that Gates and AOC talking? What's going on there? And so we had Salty, our producer. If you
hear me saying Salty, I'm not just, I don't have an imaginary friend named Salty. We have a, that's
our, the name of our producer. I said, Salty, grab that clip.
So we posted it on our Twitter page.
I think it's been viewed over 4 million times right now and made national and international news.
What were they talking about here?
Play the clip, and then I'll tell you what they were talking about. so here's the 4-1-1 Kevin McCarthy was telling members of the Republican Party,
hold on, let's go back to the House floor where it looks like the vote just wrapped up. There you
have it. There you have it. Let's bring on the sound there for a second and let's just all take
it in. Let's watch what's going on with right there on the house Thank you. That was actually a big development that just occurred uh folks where you had representative
victoria spartz republican has voted present let me repeat that representative republican
victoria spartz had vote has voted present. She previously voted for Kevin McCarthy. So while
she didn't vote for Byron Donald, she did not vote for Kevin McCarthy, who she previously voted for
on three different roll call rounds where Kevin McCarthy lost. So now another defection that we can announce here
on the Midas Touch Network, there are now 21 defections from Kevin McCarthy, an additional
pickup of a defection. Things are going bad to worse to utter complete disaster, humiliation for Kevin McCarthy right now.
You're watching right there, Representative Byron Donalds, who is the alternative candidate right
now to Kevin McCarthy. See if he picks up some more votes in the fifth roll call vote. But let's face it, folks,
Kevin McCarthy doesn't have the votes. So the question is going to be, is it going to be round after round of humiliation? I think it is. And one of the things with Kevin McCarthy
is not only does he seem to enjoy this humiliation, but he's an utter and complete liar because going back
to that AOC and Matt Gaetz conversation that was taking place, what Matt Gaetz wanted to know was
Kevin McCarthy had said that a bunch of the Democrats were either going to vote present
or not vote. In other words, and they were going to support some coalition with Kevin McCarthy.
So Matt Gaetz had went to AOC and said, hey, is this true? Are the Democrats going to try to do
some deal with Kevin McCarthy? Or are they going to hold strong and continue to vote against
McCarthy? So that's what Matt Gaetz was asking AOC. And AOC said, no, we're never going to ever
make a deal with Kevin McCarthy. We are going to oppose him. We're all going to stand united
round after round after round. And then Gaetz said to her, oh, Kevin McCarthy's going around
telling people and threatening us that we're going to lose any potential committee assignments because he's got the votes locked up based on promises being made by Democrats. And AOC said, absolutely not.
That's not happening. And then AOC goes, oh, that's interesting. You see her say, oh,
interesting because you have Kevin McCarthy caught in another lie. Let's go to the House floor. You
got Matt Gaetz, who's just loving this right now. And by the way, as much as I detest Matt Gates, I temporarily just enjoy what's
taking place here. I love the MAGA humiliation that's taking place. I love the other chaos
that's being exposed to the world right now. And again, you have Hakeem Jeffries. You're seeing the numbers right there. Kevin McCarthy, 201. Hakeem Jeffries, 212. Byron Donalds now at 20. Others at zero. We've got one
present vote right there. And as this is going on, you got President Biden, who is speaking right now
in Kentucky. And by the way, in a bipartisan way with
Mitch McConnell, as President Biden is trying to move the country forward, there's a clip of
Biden beating McConnell compared to these MAGA chaos agents taking right now in the House of
Representatives. McConnell looks like a fairly reasonable and rational person. Never thought I'd say that, but that's the depths of depravity to which the Republican Party has now sunk.
But you've got here, let's go to the House right now. You got Matt Gaetz. Let's look at the intrigue
taking place right now. And let's put the volume on, then we'll go to Biden in a second. But let's
watch what's taking place. Gracias. Grazie. um so Thank you. so so And on your screen is Congressman Byron Donalds of Florida, and that's Tom Emmerich. And we are back.
I want to show you this historic, historic day right now in our country.
Again, this is the fourth ballot where Kevin McCarthy has failed
to win the speakership, lost yesterday three times,
now lost again today. Not really clear if there is a
plan at all here. Is the plan just to lose and lose and lose again? One development as well,
though, on the other humiliating front, George Santos. George Santos has been so isolated,
so humiliated that he's basically just hiding in
the cloakroom and just comes out for the vote and then goes right back into hiding in the cloakroom,
someone who needs to resign immediately. Immediately. What a disaster that is. But
these MAGA Republicans want chaos. They want destruction. And I think they like people like George Santos.
But one of the other major, I think, developments here is that not only has Kevin McCarthy lost,
there was this other defection, went from 20 defections to 21 defections here. We had an individual voting present here. So 21 total
defections here on this round. And this comes after Donald Trump said that he called and tried
to broker a deal. This is after Donald Trump said that he called and had some really good conversations
last night. This is the statement that Trump put out on his social media platform. On his social
media platform, he wrote, some really good conversations took place last night, and it's
now time for all of our great Republican House members to vote for Kevin. Close the deal. Take the victory
and watch crazy Nancy Pelosi fly back home to a very broken California, the only speaker in U.S.
history to have lost the House twice. Republicans do not turn a great triumph into a giant and
embarrassing defeat. It's time to celebrate. You deserve it. Kevin McCarthy will do a good job and maybe even a
great job just watch. And perhaps the bigger loser today, even than Kevin McCarthy, is Donald Trump.
Look, we all expect indictments against Donald Trump to be coming this year. There are some, there we got special counsel,
Jack Smith, who's hard at work. There's many grand juries assembled in federal court in
Washington, D.C. investigating Donald Trump's crimes related to election interference, his
theft of thousands of government records, including top secret records. And so Trump under criminal investigation,
and you just see how utterly and completely weak he is right now. He weighed into the conversation,
said that people should vote for McCarthy here. And not only did people not vote for McCarthy,
but we see that there are even more defections here with the additional present vote of Representative
Victoria Spartz of Indiana from the 5th Congressional District there. She voted for
Kevin McCarthy in the three previous roll call votes, but did not vote for McCarthy here as well.
So Donald Trump looking awfully weak right now. Kevin McCarthy looking awfully weak
right now. Just some commentators making some, there's a photo of Kevin McCarthy. Just some
commentators making some great points I want to highlight. Here's Eli Mistal who writes, nothing exhibits the lack of intellectual creativity of the modern Republican Party quite as well as McCarthy's strategy of vote harder, vote again.
Aaron Rupert responded, so Kevin McCarthy's plan today was just to run it back for a fourth time and take another L.
I just can't imagine why he thought this was wise.
I think obviously that is rhetorical.
Kevin McCarthy does nothing that's wise.
But let's watch right now what's going on on the floor with Kevin McCarthy as I assume he's trying to plan what to do next, although it doesn't exactly
seem that he is speaking with the people who are not supporting him. You would think that that would
be who you'd want to talk to now, not the people who are supporting you, but you think about it, look how isolated
and alone he is there. Let's just show the clip right now of what's going on on the house floor,
and then I'll be right back to you in a moment. so so So the question right now is what happens next what happened next are we going to a fifth
roll call vote right here look what you're watching on c-SPAN right now is the group of MAGA Republicans who were not supporting Kevin McCarthy.
Now you're seeing AOC right there.
And AOC was busy yesterday speaking to people like Matt Gaetz and Gosar and making sure that those chaos agents continued to do what they were doing to undermine Kevin McCarthy.
There is AOC with Paul
Gosar. We showed you the clip earlier of AOC with Matt Gaetz. And apparently Kevin McCarthy was
lying to Gaetz and others that the Democrats were going to cut a deal with him. And AOC said,
absolutely not. We don't have a deal. Let me bring you this clip from just moments ago during the vote where Matt Gaetz voted against Kevin McCarthy for Byron
Donalds. Let's play that clip. And then when you watch the clip, what I want you to look for,
look at Kevin McCarthy's face after that vote takes place. Let's play the clip.
Gaetz.
Donalds. Donald.
Gallagher.
McCarthy.
And there you saw Congress member Gallagher who gave the speech to open today's humiliation for MAGA, saying that this chaos is great. This is what the American
people want to see. This is incredible. No, it's not what the American people want to see. American
people want to see normalcy because while this is what's going on in the House of Representatives
today, let me show you what President Biden is discussing in Kentucky. Let's play this clip of President Biden.
Biden's got some jokes today.
Let's play this clip.
Folks, I'm especially happy to be here with my friend and colleague in many years.
And I might add, longest serving leader in the United States Senate, Senator Mitch McConnell.
Mitch, it's great to be with you.
I asked permission if I could say something nice about him. I didn't want to.
I said I campaigned for him or against him, whichever helped him most. But
Mitch, it's, you know, it wasn't easy to get this done. and it wouldn't have gotten done no matter
all the work so many others have done
by writing the legislation and dropping
it in. It wouldn't have happened without
your hand.
It just wouldn't have gotten done.
And I want to thank you for that.
And you know, we have to find common ground.
Common ground to get
major legislation done in any
circumstance ever.
But we have to find common ground. That's President Biden there. And I'm seeing the
comments coming in here. And, you know, people are reflecting how we feel here on the Midas
Touch Network, which is we need adults in the room. Enough of this chaos. We want a return to normalcy.
And President Biden represents that normalcy. What we saw in that clip right there represents
a return to normalcy. I was watching this clip the other day. I'll try to find it for you
in a bit. But it was a clip of even George W. Bush and President Bill Clinton and them having a discussion after George W. Bush came into office and talking about how the transition was made very smoothly because of the way Clinton was incredible and gracious and was always available to help out
and to support the transition to make it smooth. Same thing with George W. Bush and Obama,
the same thing there. And it's not that our politics as a theoretical entity just all of a sudden changed. It is the fact that the people who have
taken over the Republican Party, namely their cult leader, Donald Trump, who has destroyed,
removed politics for a second, removed the Democrats, Republicans. Donald Trump is someone who has destroyed every single thing he
has touched in his life. He has bankrupted it all and he has destroyed the lives of everybody
who's been associated with him other than the fact that he enriches himself at other people's
expenses. That's been his whole entire life story.
So that's what he's done to our politics. Here's somebody who calls for the termination
of our constitution and MAGA Republicans can't even criticize that. He calls for the termination
of our cause. He led an insurrection. You've got
MAGA Republicans who are insurrectionists. Like when we look at the floor, when we see these MAGA
Republicans, these are people who objected to the counting of the electoral votes on January 6th
as part of a plan to topple our democracy. That is what we are dealing with,
folks. And on the other hand, in Kentucky, you've got the most normal situation ever with President
Biden talking about infrastructure, talking about building bridges and building roads and building
buildings and bringing Wi-Fi to people. What we're talking about is normalcy right now.
We're talking about normalcy.
Here, I want to show you this clip of, you know, this is Bush, Clinton, Obama,
talking about the transfer of power and normalcy.
Play the clip.
America, obviously there was a personal element to see my former vice president become the 46th president,
to see Kamala Harris as our first woman vice president.
But more broadly, I think inaugurations signal a tradition of a peaceful transfer of power that is over two centuries old. Well, I think the fact that the three of us are standing here talking about a peaceful transfer of power
speaks to the institutional integrity of our country.
So this is an unusual thing.
We are both trying to come back to normalcy, deal with totally abnormal challenges, and do what we do best.
There you have it. I mean, that's normal discussion.
And look, I could disagree on many, many, many things with George W. Bush. I may be putting it
lightly there, but we have adults in the room. We have normalcy, not anything like we are seeing with today's MAGA Republican Party. For those just
tuning in, we are witnessing history. This is the Midas Touch Network. I'm Ben Micellis,
and we are covering these historic developments. The first time since 1923 where an individual running for Speaker of the House did not secure it on the first ballot in 1923.
It took about eight or deadlock is going to be
broken at all. There is no sign of it at all. And so let's discuss what has happened, what has
transpired over the past 48 hours. And so the day yesterday, it began with different Republicans
just name-calling each other. You had Kevin McCarthy before the first ballot took place.
You got Kevin McCarthy saying, I earned this, damn it. I earned it. And then Lauren Boebert screams out, bullshit.
And that took place before the vote.
I think we have footage of Kevin McCarthy walking in yesterday before the vote, very
confident, even though he did not secure any of the votes that he needed to actually win
this, even though it was likely he was going to lose.
Let's play this
clip of how the day started. He goes, we're going to have a good day today. We're going to have a great day today.
Nope. Not exactly. Not a great day yesterday. Not a great day today. So it starts off,
we're going to have a great day today. And then after losing the first roll call vote,
here we have Kevin McCarthy in a press conference saying, name calling Matt Gates and
saying that Matt Gates said that he'd be fine if they elect Hakeem Jeffries. Play the clip.
For a long time, I've been leader for four years. I came into this position and we had
less than 200 members. We are now sitting in the majority. We put forth to the American public a
commitment to America. There's times we're going to have to argue with our own
members if they're looking at for only positions for themselves, not for the country. For the
last two months, we worked together as a whole conference to develop rules that empower all
members. But we're not empowering certain members over others. Last night I was presented the only way to have 218 votes if I provided certain members
with certain positions, certain gavels, to take over the church committee, to have certain
budgets.
And they even came to the position where one Matt Gaetz said, I don't care if we go to
plurality and we elect Hakeem Jeffries and it hurts the new frontline members not to
get reelected.
Well, that's not about
America. And I will always fight to put the American people first, not a few individuals
that want something for themselves. So we may have a battle on the floor, but the battle is
for the conference and the country. And that's fine with me. Not exactly how to win friends and
influence people if that was the aim of trying to win over people like Matt
Gates by saying that they don't care about the country? By the way, I agree with it, but how do
you expect to win the speakership if that's the tack that you're taking and name-calling the people
who you need their vote? You think after that, Matt Gates is going to be like, yeah, he called me
an American, but I'm going to go and you got me,
Kevin McCarthy. You changed my mind right there. It's also why Kevin McCarthy doesn't have just the
skills and the tact to be a leader. He's obviously a traitor. He's obviously a fascist enabler,
but it's the stupidest thing that you could possibly do there in that situation
to air that out publicly and
then expect to gain the individual's support as a result. It's like just one-on-one basics in
negotiation. But they claim they think they know the art of the deal, but they know the art of
fascism and the art of the fail. Now, here's Marjorie Taylor Greene also name dropping and calling out people like Matt
Gates and others and calling them destructionists.
Let's play this clip of Marjorie Taylor Greene from yesterday as we continue to recap what's
transpired.
If my friends in the Freedom Caucus, Matt Gates and others will not take the win when
they have it, they're proving to the country that they don't care about doing
the right thing for America. They're proving to the country that they're just destructionists.
And that's not what we need to do as a party. That's why Republicans fail. And I'm really
tired of it. Then she went out and she talked about how, I'm the only Republican that has zero
committees and I never even ask for anything.
I'm not selfish at all, but now my friends are saying, me, me, me, hold on, let's go
back to the House floor and see what's going on right now.
There's some activity.
Of New York has received 212.
The Honorable Kevin McCarthy of the State of California has received 201.
The Honorable Byron Donalds of the state of Florida has received 20.
With one member elect recorded as present.
No member elect having received a majority of the whole number of votes cast, a speaker has not been elected.
For what purpose does the gentleman from Ohio seek recognition?
Madam Speaker, I rise to nominate Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House.
The gentleman is recognized. It looks like they're going to do it again,
folks. Let's hear what he's
got to say. They're going to do it again.
Let's go back to the floor.
Now, why would I, why would I as a conservative, as an Army Ranger business guy, the first
guy that the House Freedom Caucus backed in a congressional race, why would I nominate
Kevin McCarthy to become the next Speaker of the House?
Why would Jim Jordan, why would other
conservatives like Thomas Massey, Jim Banks, Kevin Hearn, and others support Kevin McCarthy
as Speaker of the House? You know, something in our nature as humans
causes us to dehumanize others when we engage in conflict.
Dehumanizing others makes it easier to ascribe bad motives and to engage in the fight, but it
also makes it harder to understand one another. As actions push further disagreement, arguments
tend to escalate rather than resolve.
We're on the precipice of such a destructive argument today. I plead with all, all of my Republican colleagues, let cooler, more rational heads prevail.
Let us unite as Republicans to elect the next Speaker of the House.
Unlike Democrats, nearly every Republican at least campaigns on some form of smaller, more accountable government.
Once we get here, the bipartisan consensus keeps growing a bigger, less accountable government. The American people know that the status quo is broken,
that we've become less free, less safe, and more burdened by debt.
The American people are sick and tired of it,
and they keep sending us reinforcements,
reinforcements that today help make up our small majority.
But a majority is only a majority if we actually work together.
Now, lots of people back home don't trust anyone in this town.
Perhaps we would be wise to listen to them and some wisdom from Ronald Reagan.
Trust, but verify.
Trust is a fragile condition and easily broken as i've listened to my friends
20 of whom have opposed kevin mccarthy as speaker of the house
and others the root issue is this they do not trust kevin mccarthy
what can heal that divide right now there are a lot of colleagues that don't trust 20 or more of my fellow Republicans.
Right now, though we remain divided, a majority, an actual majority of the House Freedom Caucus, members do support Kevin
McCarthy. This summer, a unified House Freedom Caucus started the negotiations with a proposal
for new rules, a different way to govern that empowers committees and regular members.
We proposed that a set of tools could be structured to make trust more verifiable and allow recourse if that trust is ever broken.
Following the election, Kevin McCarthy engaged in that negotiation. He led the conference to
adopt substantive reforms that will make our majority more effective. Let me list some of them.
Andrew Clyde's proposal to restore public access to the Capitol. Lauren Boebert's proposal to reduce the linkage between the NRCC and the steering committee process.
Gary Palmer's proposal to cap spending on suspension bills.
Ralph Norman's proposal to limit leadership reports and make conference more about engaging all members.
Chip Roy's proposal to provide a five-day notice for suspension votes.
Dan Bishop's proposal in
privileged resolutions. Scott Perry's proposal for additional conference meetings ahead of key votes.
Bob Good's proposal on standalone appropriations bills. Andy Bigg's proposal limiting suspension
waivers from committees. Chip Roy's proposal to make co-sponsored amendments in order, a firm 72-hour publication of bills before calling for a recorded
vote, an end to proxy voting, an end to remote participation in committee work by members of
Congress, the Holman Rule, an end to the Gephardt Rule, cut-go instead of pay-go, an end to unblocked
suspension votes, a major reform worked out with Morgan Griffin, what we hope to call the
Griffin Rule, on single subject bills subject to germaneness points of order and amendment.
Diverse viewpoints on every committee. Lastly, a church-style commission was added to the
Judiciary Committee focused on the abuses our own big government has unjustly collaborated with big business and big tech to silence, persecute, or even prosecute our fellow citizens.
As Thomas Massey pointed out, Elon Musk bought a crime scene.
Now that we know and the public knows, the question is, what the hell are we going to do about it well this select committee answers
that question with oversight and leadership by our most effective member my friend and colleague
the future chairman of the house judiciary committee congressman jim jordan throw up those
clown emojis in the chat throw up those clown emojis. The real question goes back to strategy.
Can we accept incremental progress?
Can we work for a victory, one first down at a time?
Or can we only accept the high-risk trick plays?
Can we set about the hard work of winning debates with our colleagues,
as we have done through this process?
Can we take a win every
now and then and give hope to the forgotten men and women of America who no longer believe this
place, this people's house, cares about them? Or having achieved nearly every concession
that we've asked for, including a motion to vacate the chair with one privileged resolution.
Does it really boil down to this that 20 or more of my colleagues will never trust Kevin McCarthy
as speaker? I feel at this time we risk a worse outcome if we cannot unite behind the man that
has helped us achieve these substantive reforms. Reforms that
offer all of us, this whole body, hope for change in this broken status quo. Reforms that our voters
have demanded. Reforms that we've worked hard together to achieve. And finally, reforms that
we risk forfeiting if we do not work together as Republicans to elect the next Speaker of the House.
Now's the time for deeds, not words, and I nominate Kevin McCarthy for Speaker of the House.
I humbly ask for your support.
That was Warren Davidson, by the way, one of six who voted against collecting evidence related to Russian war crimes and atrocities in Ukraine, now pushing for Kevin McCarthy.
And I guess their plan is just to keep on losing over and over and over again.
But that's who Warren Davidson is. Let's go back to the House.
Madam Clerk, I rise to nominate Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker of the House.
The gentleman is recognized.
Madam Clerk, the lead vote-getter in the last four tallies,
Democrats are united behind a Speaker who will work to codify the right to seek an abortion into law. Like all of us, like all of us, Hakeem has spoken about
consistently the disastrous Dobbs decision. He has spoken time and time again that it is
well past time to codify Roe v. Wade into law, and he knows that young women should not grow up in a
world with fewer rights than their parents and grandparents. He will ensure that reproductive
freedom is enshrined into law. So that's why Madam Clerk is chair of the Democratic Caucus. I'm
directed by the caucus to present for election Hakeem Jeffries, representative-elect
from New York, as our next speaker. There you have Democrat Pete Aguilar again nominating a gentleman from Colorado.
Akeem Jeffries. Let's watch this.
I rise to nominate Congressman Byron Donalds.
The gentleman is recognized.
Get those clown emojis ready. Get those clown emojis ready.
I rise today to nominate Byron Donalds, my friend, an amazing man of Florida, an amazing leader, someone who almost even took leadership here in
our Republican Party and came very close in doing so, and it was a very brave run that he took.
He's a man who understands what tough times look like, and it's come out of those tough times
even stronger, more liberated, and as a leader. Now, we just heard from my respected colleague
from Ohio, and he stated some amazing rules that we have been able to get an agreement on,
I think. We were threatened pretty heavily in conference saying if we don't do as we ought,
then some of those rules may just go away. But even naming the germaneness rule,
which is really fantastic, after Morgan Griffith, well, that was our idea too. My question is,
why didn't the supposed leader of the Republican Party present these rules? Why were we fought so hard on these rules?
The barrier that still stands in the way of these rules is the structure that prevents us
from rolling over. And as my friend from Chip Roy stated, we need the tools and the leadership to do our job correctly. And I believe that Byron Donalds
is the man to lead us to that path of getting America on track and uniting the Republican Party.
My colleagues and I have worked tirelessly for months to build consensus, to negotiate in good faith, to help unify our party on border security,
energy security, debt reduction, term limits, earmarks. Clown and puke emojis are now welcomed.
Clown and puke emojis in the chat. Put them up. Our border is wide open. Inflation is out of control. The Senate just passed $1.7 trillion
without our input. So let me be clear. Our job is not to coronate the biggest fundraiser or
rubber stamp the status quo or keep on going along to get along. It's to use our votes to elect a speaker who will enable us to
get our country back on track. Getting the job done is what we were elected to
do and that starts with having a leader who supports Republican principles,
builds consensus, and has a proven track record of success. Byron Donalds is that
leader. Republicans, including many moderates, have been impressed by Byron Donalds.
They're impressed by his ability to work together. They respect his leadership.
We see him as someone who can communicate what we are all
wanting to do in this house to Americans.
And he represents so much more than just
his district in Florida.
Many millions of Americans all over this nation
praise the work and the leadership of Byron Donald.
So let's work together.
Let's stop with the campaign smears and tactics to get people to turn against us, even having
my favorite president call us and tell us we need to knock this off.
I think it actually needs to be reversed.
The president needs to tell Kevin McCarthy that, sir,
you do not have the votes, and it's time to withdraw.
With that, I yield.
Thank you.
I yield.
You're back?
Yes, ma'am.
The reading clerk will again call the roll.
All right, so we're going into our fifth roll call vote.
You heard Lauren Boebert continuing to support Byron Donalds.
In the last round, we had 21 defections, an additional defection,
a vote towards present. And we got a special guest with us right now. Back from his vacation,
we've got Brett Mycelis, my younger brother. Brett, I've been holding down the fort. It's
great to have you back. Welcome. Tell us some of your observations Brett. I've been holding down the fort. It's great to have you
back. Welcome. Tell us some of your observations of what you've been seeing now that you're back
from your vacation. You've been doing such an incredible job holding down the fort and shout
out to Salty as well, who's been producing this all while I've been away, absolutely crushing it.
My observations are that, you know, I'm at first I was upset when I was on vacation that I didn't
download anything to HBO Max or that I didn't download anything to my Showtime app or Apple TV.
But the level of entertainment that we are witnessing from the disarray in the GOP caucus
made it all the worthwhile. It is truly right now the best show on TV. And watching Kevin McCarthy get humiliated over and over and over is
certainly a silver lining to this all. It's certainly a silver lining to the Republican
Party coming into power here. Lauren Boebert there with some fiery words against McCarthy.
And I think one of the interesting things that we are seeing right now
is that division, the contrast of the division of the Republican Party and the unity of the
Democratic Party around Hakeem Jeffries. And one of the things that I love, love, love even more
than all this is that Marjorie Taylor Gre green finds herself on the wrong side of it.
She backed the wrong horse. She put all of her QAnon clout behind Kevin McCarthy,
the establishment candidate here. And she is getting absolutely trounced right now,
absolutely trounced by people who are out crazying her. And she's trying to play this
as she is some strategic genius. Right now, she looks like a total clown, like a total idiot,
like a total sycophant, like somebody who never even really believed in the things that she
espouses. So I'm seeing the comments from the far right, which I think are incredibly illuminating,
which are incredibly funny to see, people are
pissed on the right with Marjorie Taylor Greene. They're calling her a shill for what they refer
to as the uniparty, which is whenever there's any sort of bipartisanship or if they think that a
Republican is acting like what they call a rhino or a Democrat. They are accusing Marjorie Taylor
Greene of being a member of the Uniparty.
They are calling her the establishment. And next to McCarthy, no one looks worse than MTG right now.
And I think that is highly entertaining to watch. We are seeing the fifth roll call vote right now.
Isn't that the definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over again
and expecting a different result? I don't know. Maybe Mike Pence will have the courage to...
Here's the thing, if Mike Pence has the courage, McCarthy can still win. We'll see about that. But again, we're going to see at least 20, 21 defections
here. I think, again, nothing's going to change. I mean, once we see that Donald's hit five,
we know it's game over again in the fifth roll call vote. There's already three votes for Donald's,
three defections. So let's just see once that number hits, it hits four. We're about to see
Kevin McCarthy lose again in the fifth round. And what are they going to do? They're just going to
keep doing this over and over again. Now, Kevin McCarthy has no shame. I want to pull up this
clip of Victoria Sparks, a House Republican. She voted for Kevin McCarthy in the first three rounds and then in the fourth
round voted present, representing 21 defections. This was her speaking to the press pool outside
of the House floor after her present vote. Let's go play this clip.
Well, you know who I'm happy with, and we have a productive conversation.
It's okay.
Why not just vote no?
Why present?
Well, I didn't want to vote on this vote
against Kevin McCarthy,
so that's why I didn't want to vote
against Kevin on this vote,
and I told him that I'll vote present
so we can have more deliberation.
You told him before the vote
that you were going to vote present?
Yes, I did.
And what did he say to you when you told him that?
Well, listen, you know, that's my choice. You know, people, you know, can decide how to do it.
You know, it's not like we could like him, but I told him we need to move the needle.
And moving the needle, we need to have more deliberation. So that was important.
Is there anything specific you want to deliberate on?
I want to deliberate so we have a speaker
because we have to get to work.
As American people, we have to get to work.
But we cannot just exhaust when we don't have that.
So the only way for us to get a speaker to go back to the room,
to the drawing board and discuss how we can get concerned,
address concerns of 20 people.
If we can, maybe some, if we cannot,
you know, but have a healthy deliberation. That's what this body is about. And then when we have
the vote come back to the floor, not just have the sex society adjourned and go back to the,
you know, hotels or go back to whoever, to the offices, we actually have to go back to HC5.
Do you think there should be a new candidate? You sound like you're growing pretty frustrated
with this process.
You sound pretty frustrated.
Well, I think, you know, it's okay.
The process shouldn't be easy.
The process should be frustrating.
But it's important for us that we have this communication
so we actually get it done.
Historically, sometimes you should, you know,
hold it, one time you took over 100 votes, right,
to be elected to speak in several months.
It's okay.
Why did Donald Trump's endorsement of McCarthy not affect you at all?
Well, you will ask, you know, people like that.
You know, I'm an independent legislator.
I only care what my people say and the people that elected me.
So, you know, that's what I care.
And I care for us as an institution to have a speaker and for Republicans to get together
and, you know, have an elected speaker and for Republicans to get together and, you know,
have elected speaker who's going to get to business. And because we have a lot of challenges
and people are frustrated. Should there be a new candidate for speaker that's not Kevin McCarthy?
This is not up for us to decide. You know, I think Kevin McCarthy has...
There you have it there. We're waiting on that fifth vote to make it official that Kevin McCarthy has... There you have it there. We're waiting on that fifth vote to make it official that Kevin McCarthy will lose.
But it's all but wrapped up that he's going to lose this fifth round.
It's obvious that another speaker candidate is going to be needed.
And Democrats are not going to let them off the hook here, right, Brett?
Yeah, that's what I love to see right now, that Democrats are just kind of sitting back,
literally yesterday at least, sitting there with the popcorn, watching the show unfold,
letting Republicans just show that proof to the American people that they're unable to
govern for themselves.
You see the video, the picture right now that Salta just pulled up of Ted Lieu with the
bag of popcorn.
And I heard that there were a ton of congressmen, Democratic congressmen sitting in the back with their bags and bowls of popcorn, respectively, yesterday, just watching the show.
And there's the fifth vote for Donald's right there.
And so there you have it.
Kevin McCarthy slated to lose now the fifth vote for speaker.
And I truly do not understand at this point what his plan was.
I assumed that yesterday, once they adjourned, that Kevin McCarthy would
start getting to work. You know, this also has to, you got to prove your chops in this aspect as well,
right? You got to prove that you could get votes for things. If you can't get votes for yourself,
you're not going to be able to get votes for legislation. You would think when they adjourned
yesterday, Kevin McCarthy or the Republicans would get together, hatch some master plan.
They would get some plan where, you know what, we're going to find a consensus candidate.
But their plan is just to continue to come out here and to lose over and over and over.
The plan last night was they were doing a pizza party.
It was supposed to be the pizza party for all of the families.
This is Tom Bonior put it great.
So there was going to be a pizza
party after announcing that he won the speakership. And then they canceled the pizza party. They moved
the pizza into the speaker's office that McCarthy is basically like broke into at this point. He's
a squatter. He doesn't belong in that office. And so he took the pizza. He put
the pizza in the room and as Tom Bonior goes, ah, the classic, if you want pizza, you'll have to
come to my office, advantage McCarthy. But for all those just tuning in, we can now project
officially that Kevin McCarthy will lose again on the fifth ballot. It is official, although we'll call it a projection, just with a little asterisk.
But we can say with a great degree of confidence that McCarthy will lose with the fifth vote going for Byron Donalds.
McCarthy's not picking up any more votes.
And it seems the plan is just to lose over and over and over again. I haven't
had a, when have you seen me drink a Diet Coke last? I got a Diet Coke in one hand. I got this
big mug. By the way, I made this mug myself. I did it at an arts and crafts. This is a me authentic
thing. And I got a lot of coffee right now, a lot of energy in
me, but I am so glad we're spending this time together with the Midas Mighty. And before I
toss it back to you, Brett, as we watch this utter humiliation, my, everybody watching this,
in addition to throwing up those clown emojis and puke emojis, anytime MAGA Republicans speak,
that's a new tradition we need to have here. Throw up those clown and puke emojis. Anytime MAGA Republicans speak, that's a new tradition we need to have
here. Throw up those clown and puke emojis. Occasionally you can throw the poop emoji,
but let's stick mostly with clown, puke, and poop emojis here in the chat room. But make sure you
hit the subscribe button, please. Hit the subscribe. It is vital that we continue to grow this independent
media platform. More people, there it goes, official McCarthy does not have the votes right
now in the fifth round, but hit subscribe. More people watch the Midas Touch Network than any
other media network right now, even broadcasting this. Hey, Stolte, and I want to show people why. Put up the photo right now of
Kevin McCarthy and Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago because we're not afraid to look at them and say,
those people are despicable traitors. Those people are fascists. We call a spade a spade here.
Brett, I'll throw it to you. So much losing going on right now for Kevin McCarthy. Like I was saying before,
I don't understand how this is the plan. And I think it also exposes a tremendous flaw in our
system that this could, could this just go indefinitely? Like they could just keep doing
this until they find a consensus candidate. It seems a little wild. I mean, I just watched the
world cup, just got off watching the world cup. I think this needs to be settled by like penalty
shootout, penalty kickout, something
needs to happen here. But at a certain point, they just got to flip it into a plurality.
I think that should honestly be the rule because this majority thing is just not working out.
Hakeem Jeffries, the Democrat, keeps getting the most votes here. At a certain point,
Hakeem Jeffries should just be Speaker of the House. This is ridiculous. McCarthy is refusing to back down. McCarthy has wanted to be Speaker now for, it's not just this year,
remember, he's wanted to be Speaker for years and years and years, for like nearly a decade.
The last time he wanted to be Speaker, his speakership was derailed by an affair that he
had, and Paul Ryan became Speaker. Now, this was his big shot for power. He's done
everything throughout the past year to be as craven and as opportunistic as possible from
first condemning the January 6th insurrection two years ago to then going to that photo that Ben
just showed of him at Mar-a-Lago kissing Trump's feet to then becoming the guy trying to court these extremists. But guess what? As they
say, if you play with fire, you are going to get burnt. And Kevin McCarthy has been playing with
this QAnon insurrectionist fire. And guess what? They just resent the guy for it. They just resent
you because you know why? They know he's a phony. They know is a fake he can't speak without you hearing the inauthenticity
in his voice you go this guy kevin mccarthy what does he stand for this guy is a hundred percent
absolute fraud it's a funny clip i gotta show everyone there's matt gates matt gates cast the
vote for byron donalds it's highly entertaining. I've been over this process. I got to say, I am like appreciating very entertaining here.
Yes.
Yes.
Now keep it up, Matt.
I mean, the letter yesterday that he sent, by the way, he's absolutely right.
Pull up the letter, Salty.
If we get this letter, this is a letter that Gaetz wrote to the architect of the Capitol.
Brett, you want to discuss the letter and what he said in it?
Yeah, I'll just start reading it. He said, Dear Mr. Blanton, who's the architect of the Capitol. Brett, you want to discuss the letter and what he said in it? Yeah, I'll just start reading it. He said, Dear Mr. Blanton, who's the architect of the Capitol, I write to inform you that the Speaker of the House office located in the U.S.
Capitol building is currently occupied by Representative Kevin McCarthy. As of this
morning, the 117th Congress adjourned and a speaker from the 118th Congress has not been
elected. After three undeciding votes,
no member can lay claim to this office. What is the basis in law, house rule, or precedent
to allow someone who has placed second in three successive speaker elections to occupy the speaker
of the house office? How long will he remain there before he is considered a squatter? Please write
back promptly as it seems Mr. McCarthy can no longer be considered speaker
designate followed today's balloting. Sincerely, Matt Gates. And Gates here is absolutely right.
That guy has no business being in the speaker's office. You can't move into the speaker's office
prematurely. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. You don't have
the votes, Kevin. You don't have the votes. By the way, Kevin right now is still also squatting
on the Twitter handle, at GOP leader. Perhaps he should change the Twitter handle as well,
from at GOP leader to at GOP loser, because that is all he is doing. All he can do is lose.
He should get in one of those cars and
those memes with Carrie Lake and Donald Trump and keep on losing with the rest of the losers here.
This is highly entertaining. What do you even say here, Ben?
Okay. Well, let's pull up the clip though. This was a funny development. This is just more
humiliation. So this is George santos the maga trader fraud
he's like trying to get in the con like no one wants to talk to this guy so earlier in the day
he was hiding in the cloak room and then he would just go out and vote then he decided to come out
and when he did that he spoke with um with he tried to get into the circle of Gates and others here.
Do we have this clip of him trying to get into the circle of discussions and be involved?
If we do, let's play that clip.
In the glasses there, putting that card back into his jacket for folks who aren't familiar
with him.
This is what's going to have to happen here now to actually move things.
Nothing's going to move during these roll call votes.
Members are more or less tied to their seats.
Not a lot of conversation allowed during a vote like that where folks are speaking.
If you can't get to an adjournment, if you can't get to any effective procedural pause,
you get these moments now where the tellers are going through and counting the votes
and checking their math without the benefit of our fine graphics team, keeping score for them in real time to do that work.
I'm just waiting. You know, Matt Gates is doing there, Brett.
When you don't see Kevin McCarthy anywhere near that.
And Matt Gates, though, as much as I despise him for what he's doing here,
he's at least trying to coalition build.
Like even he was speaking with AOC yesterday.
And if Kevin McCarthy's not,
where Kevin McCarthy needs to be right now
is not isolated and alone on the floor.
He needs to be with, unfortunately,
or fortunately, who knows anymore,
with Matt Gaetz and Chip Roy and Paul
Gosar. He needs to be there pointing and doing what Matt Gaetz was doing with those people.
And he never can do that because he has no leadership ability at all. I want to pull up
this Lauren Boebert, if we've got this clip of what she just said. And again, when I play it,
get ready for your clown and puke emojis for those
listening on the chat. But this is what she said. She goes that Donald Trump needs to call Kevin
McCarthy now and tell Kevin McCarthy to drop out poop emojis and puke emojis and clown emojis.
Get it ready. Play the clip. So let's work together. Let's stop with the campaign smears and tactics to get people to turn against us.
Even having my favorite president call us and tell us we need to knock this off.
I think it actually needs to be reversed. The president needs to tell Kevin McCarthy that, sir, you do not have the votes and it's time to withdraw.
With that, I yield.
Thank you.
This whole interactiveness of the puke emojis and the clown emojis when the Republicans speak,
you don't get this in large media networks, folks.
You don't in a large media networks.
Do you occasionally hear a Maltese and a toy poodle bark in the background?
You just don't get that.
You just don't get that.
You just don't get that quality.
So as we are now on the fifth roll call vote, for those just tuning in, it is absolutely official.
Kevin McCarthy will once again lose the fourth roll call vote.
Let's go and watch what's going on on the House floor,
and we will be right back to you with more
on these historic developments right here
on the Midas Touch Network.
And we've got Brett back.
Let's go to the House floor.

MAGA disaster play out right now as we previously projected Kevin McCarthy is going to lose
the fifth roll call vote. No plan, complete chaos. Is there anything that sums up the modern day Republican Party more when I add the word
fascist?
But that's what we're dealing with now, Brett.
And what are they going to do?
They're just going to go and do the sixth vote.
They're going to do the seventh vote with no change and no alteration.
That's the thing.
They're not moving.
There's no developments that are actually taking place. You see basically the Republicans,
other than Gates and others trying to bring more to their side, the other people are just sitting
there completely frozen, which is also kind of the hallmark of their fascist. And they have Kevin
McCarthy doing a fist bump. I mean, the guy's completely out of his mind. But it's one of the hallmark of their fascist, and they have Kevin McCarthy doing a fist bump. I
mean, the guy's completely out of his mind. But it's one of the hallmarks of fascism and which
allows fascism to grow, right? They are completely frozen in the face of people like Donald Trump,
and they don't do anything. Yes, they want it. Yes, they enable it. But also it just kind of like. Just go along. They go along with the herd fascist mentality and like we're seeing it here, these people are incapable of governing.
Brett, what say you? With your microphone on, of course, a little little little rusty there from vacation. Absolutely. Well, we learned for a while now that you cannot
appease, in this case, these legislative terrorists. You cannot have a strategy of
appeasement. And throughout the past few years, Kevin McCarthy and other Republicans who frankly
know a lot better have appeased the extremist radical wing of the party. Instead of standing
up to Donald Trump and the traitors, they decided, you know what? I'm a traitor myself, and I am going to try to get their support.
It's the famous joke about the leopards eating faces party. You can't be a part of the leopards
eating faces party and then get surprised when all of a sudden the leopards start eating your face
as well. And that's exactly what is going on here with Kevin McCarthy. He made a bet. Everyone
knew it was a bad bet. Everybody told him it was a bad bet. We've all heard those conversations,
those leaked conversations he had years ago with Liz Cheney after the January 6th attack.
We've all seen how he's changed his public persona. We've all seen and heard that voice
that he puts on every time he gives a press conference where you could just hear the inauthenticity of his words, where you could tell he is just trying to placate the most extreme forces in his party. front of hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people watching how the Republicans are just
completely incompetent and knowing that I cannot believe that these are the people who were sent
to represent us. I'm sure a lot of people right now are looking at this and saying, oh man, I
thought I'd give the Republicans a shot, but they can't even do this. This is absolutely
embarrassing. At least the Democrats
can govern. I don't know what the heck this is. And I think voters are watching. I think Americans
are paying attention. And you're right, Ben. And you've mentioned this also in the past with
autocratic governments and oligarchies, how they like to put the most incompetent people
in positions of power. And I think we're also seeing that here
with this leadership vacuum that we are seeing in the Republican Party, everybody trying to get
a little bit of power here with nobody quite having it or nobody quite having the skills
to coalesce that power. And I think one of the funniest things to watch throughout all this
is anytime somebody makes one of those nominations of another Republican to be speaker of the House, they are within like five feet of Kevin McCarthy, who needs to kind of look at them or look down with a shit eating grin and watch it all play out right in front of his right in front of his face.
These people are incompetent. They are showing the country just how incompetent they are. They are ill-fitted to govern. They do not belong in the House. Frankly, I don't even think Kevin McCarthy deserves, forget the speakership, I don't even think this guy deserves his seat in Congress after this. And I think his political future will be a discussion after this once this is all said and done. One thing to point out is the district that Kevin McCarthy represents is in Bakersfield, California, which is just an interesting thing.
It's the dynamic of California people assume, you know, even in Donald Trump's statement that he
made, this disparaging, ridiculous statement he made the other day, he talked about, you know,
Nancy Pelosi going back to California.
Dude, Kevin McCarthy's from California. And not only is Kevin McCarthy- Let's not forget Elise Stefanik is from New York. So their two big leaders right here
are New York and California, the coastal elites who they like to rail against. Isn't that interesting?
But not only that, Kevin McCarthy's district has the highest homicide rate, highest crime rate, highest also police shooting death rate, the most crime of not just anywhere in California, but almost anywhere in the United States.
And so what the pro-democracy coalition needs to do, and I know Hakeem Jeffries is a master messenger.
He has just been incredible at that. But we need to make very
clear that these highest crime areas are actually in the Republican districts and in the Republican
led states and in the Republican led cities. We need to stop just allowing Republicans. Look at
how incompetent these people are. Look how they can't even get their shit together.
Excuse my language, but this is who the Republicans are.
Democrats need to push back hard on the crime narrative as well because the reality is it's that the Republicans just engage in performative gestures.
And yes, is it the case that sometimes the Democrats or pro-democr's approach to trying to address crime. Do they
always get it right? But you see, they're trying to solve the problems. It's not just the
performative, I'm a tough guy, and all I'm going to do is say, I'm tough on crime, and I'm giving
everybody life sentences. No, it's like, let's study and examine the issues. Let's try to
actually confront it, and let's be problem solvers.
And sometimes when you are problem solvers, you're going to get it wrong, but let's address
these issues. And Republicans, it's always just performative, performative, performative.
This is breaking as well. We have Republican representative Ken Buck, a clip from him,
basically talking about, look, McCarthy better cut some sort of deal or do
something or step aside. Republican from Colorado just said this on CNN. Let's play this clip.
Something to Kevin McCarthy about what needs to happen going forward. Tell us what you said.
Well, I've had a number of conversations with Kevin and just basically told him that at some
point this needs to break loose. He either needs to make a deal that bring the 19 or 20 over,
or he needs to step aside and give somebody else a chance to do that.
I don't know what that time frame is, but it makes sense that at some point today
we are able to move forward in a way that we elect a speaker.
Unfortunately, the Democrats won't agree to a motion to adjourn so the Republicans can meet. The rebels, the 20 group that is opposing McCarthy, won't agree to a motion
to adjourn. So we're going to keep going through this exercise on the floor. The smart thing to do
is to get together, have a conversation, like that, the popcorn emoji in the chat room as well.
So I want to make this an interactive experience.
That's the future of news right there.
I want to see the clown and puke emojis and popcorn emojis all used at the appropriate times.
This may be a time to use a popcorn emoji.
Can we show our viewers and listeners a flashback?
Be very clear.
This is a flashback to 2015 when Kevin McCarthy stepped aside
after being embroiled in a scandal where he thought he was going to,
oh, there's George Santos right there.
What a clown George Santos is.
That's a combination of clown emoji and popcorn emoji. If you're following at home and there's a, we,
we got to develop that whole emoji thing. Um, but let's play this clip. This is 2015
of Kevin McCarthy, um, stepping aside when he was embroiled in a scandal back then. Let's play that
clip. I don't want making voting for Speaker a tough one.
I don't want to go to the floor and win with 220 votes.
I think the best thing for our party right now
is that you have 247 votes on the floor.
If we are going to be strong, we got to be 100% united.
Okay, that's a joke.
But such a gem of a clip right there uh byron donald's already at 18 votes
18 defections and what you heard from congress member buck republican from colorado is that the
mccarthy here's the dynamic mccarthy and all all the other Republicans want to desperately adjourn
so they could try to come up with something. I don't know, hold another pizza party or something
like that. And the 20 Republicans who don't support him, as well as the Democrats are saying,
no, we're not adjourning. We are going to show the American people precisely who you are.
We're going to expose it here.
We're now in our two hours and 23 minutes into this broadcast.
We're going to keep going here on the Midas Touch Network.

your thoughts as we approach hour two and 25 minutes.
The reason I'm laughing is because what we witnessed before when George Santos came on
the screen is they had actually called George Santos' name two times for the vote, and Santos was not paying attention, and he missed his opportunity to vote this round, apparently.
I don't know.
Does he get another opportunity to vote?
I don't know.
Maybe.
It's possible his name isn't George Santos.
I don't think it is, honestly, so he doesn't respond to it.
He ran as that.
I don't know about George Santos.
He also invented clapping, so he may have just been like letting people know about
how innovative he was when they called his name. And he was like, did you know I invented clapping?
Well, I think as he could tell Kevin McCarthy about his time as speaker for well over a decade,
George Santos's time as speaker of the house, this whole thing, when you have the dynamic of Santos
and you have the dynamic of the McCarthy stuff happening all at once, you really just see the breadth of the huge clown show of the Republican Party in full view.
Ben, I'm loving the emojis right here. There's the shot right there. We pulled it up of Santos realizing that he missed his vote. I mean, this guy.
It doesn't shock me that he doesn't know how to tie his tie anyway.
Let's go back to the shot of him.
It's analyzed.
The tie is not the least of his problems, but the tie is not quite the least of his problems.
You come to the Midas Touch Network, you get some sartorial commentary by yours truly,
and that is not how you tie the tie
folks out there. And Brett, back to you. What else were you saying? I mean, at this point,
what Kevin McCarthy has to realize and what the other congressman who we just played the clip of
needs to realize and be honest about is I don't think watching this, I don't think there's anything
Kevin McCarthy could do to win over
these people. I think Kevin, their problem is not with Kevin McCarthy's policies or their problem
is with Kevin McCarthy. You are the problem. So if you are the problem, how do you get people to
vote for you? That's why I do think ultimately, I think Kevin McCarthy is going to have to have
a hard look in the mirror with reality and realize that he's reached the end of the line. He's not going to get those votes, and they're going to have to come together, and they're going to have to figure out how are we going to get a candidate forward who could get the full consensus of the Republican Party. party. I believe the last time that they needed a consensus candidate was that when they ended up
electing Dennis Hastert as their consensus candidate, who ended up becoming a convicted
pedophile who was literally the Republican Speaker of the House. That was their best
candidate after Newt Gingrich was out of the Speaker role to get Hastert in there. And they
have a rule named after Dennis Hastert, the Hastert rule, which they abide by to this day. And look at Dennis Hastert's history and
you'll be absolutely appalled to find out about his convictions and what he did.
This is a breaking news. Representative Ken Buck, who we just showed you, has told reporters
publicly right now that the fifth ballot will be his last one for Kevin McCarthy
in terms of counting on his vote. He goes, quote, stay tuned, he says. So a very big development we
can report here on the Midas Touch Network that Ken Buck, Republican from Colorado, member of
Congress who you just saw, said that this fifth ballot is the last one that Kevin
McCarthy can count on him. You saw him previously. We showed you speaking to CNN and saying that
something needs to change immediately and imminently. And now he has confirmed. He says,
stay tuned. This will be the last ballot that he will be voting for Kevin McCarthy on as we see that number back to Byron
Donalds at 19, 19 defection. Still, we'll see that tick up to 20, probably one present vote.
We will see 21. And so for those tuning in, we have projected here on the Midas Touch Network
that Kevin McCarthy will lose the fifth round roll call vote of the speakership.
He has been utterly humiliated in rounds one, two, and three. There was an additional defection to
20 Republicans defecting against him. And now we are on the fourth round. There was 21,
one voted present. And now we are on the fifth round. It is official. We can project that Kevin McCarthy will lose this round again.
And now what we are starting to hear, popcorn emoji time, popcorn emoji time.
What we're starting to hear is that in the sixth round, there will likely be many, many
more defections.
Lots of Republicans are now saying that publicly.
So this is the time to get out those popcorn emojis.
We're two hours and 30 minutes into the live broadcast.
We are staying strong together.
Midas mighty community.
Hit the subscribe button right now.
Let's go to the House floor and see what the clerk's going to say. And let's turn on that volume salty, shall we?
Now, that was very quick. I think they're taking a final roll call vote and seeing who else is there.
Armstrong, McCarthy.
Make sure you hit that subscribe button, folks.
Hit the subscribe button right here.
The largest independent media network. More people watching this live broadcast than any of the major networks.
We're not afraid to call fascist fascist traitors
traitors this is the new world of media the truth where we are 100 accountable to all of you
watching and we will work tirelessly tirelessly for the Midas touch pro-democracy community Brett
we're seeing the final votes being taken do we think that Donald's number is going to hit 20?
Are they just, are they waiting for one?
There it is.
There it goes.
There it is.
There it goes.
Popcorn emojis, popcorn emojis, Brett.
What a disaster.
What a disaster.
You know, like Jen Psaki was channeling my thoughts yesterday when I saw her tweet out,
like it's politics 101.
You do not call a vote if you don't know that you have the votes.
Kevin McCarthy is a I say this obviously sarcastically, a master tactician.
We're realizing, you know what?
We're just going to wing it.
He's doing the Bill O'Reilly effort.
We're doing it live.
We'll just do it live.
And that strategy right now not seeming to work out for Mr. McCarthy. Right. How sparks at a great,
he goes, Kevin McCarthy thinks he can wear down the freedom caucus, a group of people with no
legislative agenda who ran on an obstinate asshole platform. Okay. Like I said, it's not about policy with them here. They don't like Kevin. They
don't trust Kevin. And frankly, this is one time I'm going to say that they are right. And even in
a world, and I honestly, at this point, I don't think it's going to happen. Even in a world where
a Kevin McCarthy is able to get the votes, he would be the weakest speaker imaginable. He would just be a puppet
for these far-right voices. He would not be able to get anything done because he would not be able
to both appease the quote-unquote, and there aren't many of these people, moderates of the
party, while also appeasing these 20-plus crazies, extra crazies in the party. I will say there is no way the
AOC speaker, Pelosi, a former speaker, Pelosi, I guess at this point, but who knows? We don't
even have a house of representatives. I don't even know how it works at this point. Who's in
leadership? She deserves to be in Kevin McCarthy's office more than Kevin McCarthy deserves to be in the office. We are getting more news in here. Ken Buck coming through.
Man, McCarthy now, sixth speaker vote possible for Kevin McCarthy. Do they actually go to a
sixth vote now? Do they just keep playing this insane game over and over and over? You know,
Ben, the longest amount of votes that they've had one time in our history
in 1856, the house took two months and 133 votes to elect a speaker of the house two months and
a hundred. But in the modern media, social media age, this is like dog years. So we're already,
we're already on vote like 445 right now. Absolutely. Based on dog ears. Hold on.
Let's see if she's going to vote present or she's going to vote for Donald. There you have it again,
voting. There's the present vote. We see the exact same amount of votes this time as was in the prior round. So again, the defections are the same, 21 defections.
It's not getting any better for Kevin McCarthy here as representative of Victoria Sparks of
Indiana just voted present. We basically see the exact same numbers as the last round. 212 for Jeffries, who again will win this fifth round.
201 for McCarthy. Victoria Sparks, who is voting present. I want to show this clip that we
mentioned before. Representative Ken Buck had confirmed to a number of media outlets that this
was the last vote Kevin McCarthy could count on him for. This is
actually now we have a clip of him saying this on CNN. Let's pull up the clip for all of our
viewers out there. Sir, that that's actually going to happen. I have a sense. It's common sense,
but I don't have a sense that it is. No one has whispered in my ear that it's about to happen.
Well, you've seen what's been happening on the floor.
I think common sense left the room a while ago.
But just real quick, I want to follow up on the comment that you made about Steve Scalise.
You told Manu Raju, and you're saying now that he is probably the consensus candidate.
What would he need to do to get, I realize the 20s should be split into various camps, but at the end he would need 218.
How would he have to, what would he have to do to get that?
So I think that what Steve needs to do is we have to have a break, whether it's this evening or at some point.
And I think Steve just needs to sit down with each individual, talk to them about what they want.
Now the problem is once you make a commitment to a conservative in the caucus, then there's
going to be a moderate who says, wait a second, I've been waiting for that committee chairmanship
and I've been waiting for that subcommittee chairmanship.
And so it's almost a zero sum game.
You start giving to one side, you're taking away from the other.
Congressman, but before you go, one last question, which is how many votes do you think is enough for this process to go on, assuming that Kevin McCarthy continues to lose votes, which he has been in the last few votes?
I mean, this is the fifth right now.
What's the maximum you think would be acceptable before there's a step to, like, try to find somebody else that will get to 17 or to 18?
So if I knew that, I would be on a flight to Vegas and I'd be putting my money down
on the table.
I have no idea.
I think it's going to be in the next two or three votes that the nerves are frayed enough
that people come together and make a decision.
And are you going to vote for him or is your vote possibly going to shift to a different
candidate if it's Steve Scalise or a present
vote? Yeah. So I am voting on this vote for Kevin McCarthy. Stay tuned and I'll let you know what
I'm going to be doing in the future. All right. So this is the last time he can count on your vote.
This ballot right now, the fifth one. Congressman Ken Buck, Colorado, thank you so much. Really
appreciate your time. Good luck to you and your caucus figuring this all out. We're joined by an ally of Kevin McCarthy. Talk about burying the lead there.
That was the biggest question at the end. It was like they almost didn't get to the key question,
which is, can he count on your vote in the next round? To which Ken Buck said no. And Ken Buck
had supported McCarthy in rounds one through five. You're watching former Speaker Pelosi doing what
leaders do, speaking to people, coalition building, having conversations with people.
On the other hand, you got isolated, lonely Kevin McCarthy. And I think Ron Filipkowski put it best.
He says, it seems like many are missing the plot here. This rebellion isn't about any particular issues, rules, committees, etc.
It's about a person, Kevin McCarthy.
They simply don't want him.
Nothing can be negotiated because they don't trust him to abide by whatever they agree to.
The other plot is that Kevin McCarthy is such a vile loser traitor who has been humiliated his entire career that he doesn't even have it within him to back down.
So what you have here is the most bizarro, weird stalemate in the world amongst this MAGA Republican House of Representative chaos agents. You're watching
Titus Touch Network, our historic coverage of the speakership race where Kevin McCarthy
has lost five separate times. This has not happened since 1923, and we've got a very special guest as we head into our 238 minutes and we got Jordy
Mycellus. Jordy, how are you doing, Jay? I'm doing well. This is bonkers. Can I just say,
Ben and Brett, you guys have been doing a phenomenal job with this coverage and Brett, it's so great to see you back. I hope you're rested. I mean, just to throw
you into the chaos like this. It's so good to see you back. I'm absolutely not rested one bit. I'm
dealt with flight chaos and delays, and I don't even know what day or what time it is right now.
I'm extremely delirious, but enjoying the show. That's all I can say. Oh, my goodness, fellas. This is wild.
This is a wild, wild day, Ben.
This is absolute history.
I couldn't agree more.
But not just wild.
It's wild.
But it shows also, I think, not just how weak MAGA Republican Party is, not just how weak Kevin McCarthy is.
But I think it also highlights the utter weakness.
I don't think. I can confidently say I know it highlights the utter weakness of their cult leader,
because let's face it, they're not a political party anymore. They are just a cult. But it
highlights the weakness of their cult leader, Donald Trump. So last night after McCarthy lost
three votes and they adjourned, Trump put out like this really weird statement blaming Mitch McConnell.
And this is what Trump's statement was last night, where he would not support Kevin McCarthy publicly last night.
That changed this morning. And there was a reporter from NBC who spoke with Trump last night and said that Trump wouldn't commit to supporting Kevin McCarthy.
But this is what Trump said last night. There is so much unnecessary turmoil in the Republican Party
in large part due to people like the old broken crow, Mitch McConnell, his wife, Coco Chow,
who is a sellout to China and their rhino allies who make it difficult for everyone else by
constantly capitulating to hopeless Joe Biden and the Democrats. The $1.7 trillion Green New Deal booster that McConnell and the RINOs handed
to the Dems last week was a real downer and embarrassment to Republican. That's where you
can do the clown emojis. You can do the puke emojis because let's just face it, folks, that is just so freaking weird.
I mean, it is dangerous.
It is disgusting.
It is xenophobic.
It is ageist.
It is everything.
It's also really, really weird. And the contrast on display here as well is the MAGA Republicans represented by
people like George Santos, who they can't even say no to him. They got someone who lied about
everything in his life. You got the George Santos saga playing out. You got the Trump saga playing out. You got the McCarthy saga. It's like the hat trick
of despicable MAGA Republicans on display for the whole world. So that's what Trump said last night.
Then earlier today, he put out a statement saying that he was involved in discussion. Some really
good conversations took place last night. And now it's time for all of our great Republican House members to vote for Kevin.
Close the deal.
Take the victory and watch crazy Nancy Pelosi fly back home to a very broken California.
The only speaker in U.S. history to have lost the House twice.
Republicans, do not turn a great triumph into a giant and embarrassing defeat it's
time to celebrate you deserve it kevin mccarthy will do a good job maybe even a great job
just watch exclamation point with all of the caps let's go clown emojis puke emojis he doesn't even
realize kevin mccarthy's from california uh apparently there has sent Pelosi back to California.
You mean where Kevin McCarthy's from? You have Kevin McCarthy's district. You know how
all these Republicans like to talk a lot of crap about cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Kevin McCarthy's district has a significantly higher crime rate than either of those cities.
It's in much worse shape than either of those cities. It's in a much worse shape than either of those
cities. It's, it's really shows you the hypocrisy that when you have Republicans trying to run on
crime, that Kevin McCarthy's district is the murder capital of California. It's probably
worth mentioning of over and over and over again, this guy is incompetent at home. He is incompetent in DC.
He is incompetent across the United States of America. And what we are witnessing is Kevin
McCarthy's incompetence on display and the Republican party's incompetence on display.
And guess what? Here's a situation also where not only did Donald Trump try to put his clout,
whatever his clout is, behind Kevin
McCarthy and say that it would help him get votes. Not only did Kevin McCarthy not get the votes
after that, Kevin McCarthy actually lost support after that. He lost support after Donald Trump
came out and tried to put his arm around him. And you have this incredibly interesting dynamic
that we've been following recently on the Midas Touch podcast between the Republicans in the Senate who think these
House Republicans are absolutely out of their mind. The Republicans in the House were divided
amongst themselves into all these crazy factions. You have Donald Trump trying to meddle in all of
this. Meanwhile, what you find is the Republican Party, especially those in the House,
have become so radicalized, have gotten so far to the right that they are now further to the right
and more radical than Donald Trump, than Marjorie Taylor Greene. And in this unique scenario,
we are seeing Marjorie Taylor Greene and Donald Trump choose not the candidates of the MAGA
movement, which is a monster that they created and has gotten out of their control. They are not
picking the MAGA candidate. They are picking the establishment candidate, so to speak,
in Kevin McCarthy. Kevin McCarthy, who would be the weakest, the weakest speaker ever to hold the house. And I see some
of the concessions that they're trying to put forward now. And they want it to be like, you
know, at any time is one of the ones I saw somebody throw out before at any time, any one Republican
could challenge Kevin McCarthy's speakership and call a vote. Can you imagine if any one person at
any time, it would be happening every single day. day. I wouldn't be able to get anything done. And it also goes to show you just how brilliantly Democrats handled their caucus
over these past few years with the thinnest of margins. I mean, I know people like Chuck Schumer
get a lot of crap. I know people like Pelosi sometimes get a lot of crap with the narrow
margins that we had both in the House and the Senate to have been able to accomplish what we did to be able to unify the party in that way.
It really shows you how much of a feat that really was.
Sometimes they're just able to make it look easy in the background, and we think it should be easy. We are seeing right now, though, what happens when you have a power vacuum, when you actually don't have a leader out there, you see this power vacuum,
you see this disarray in the Republican Party, you see this absolute chaos. And in many respects,
we are witnessing the destruction of the Republican Party before our eyes.
Do you remember back in,
and Wajah had a lead put this statement,
and it's so great.
He goes, in 2021, Kevin McCarthy said,
quote, I want you to watch Nancy Pelosi hand me that gavel.
It will be hard not to hit her with it.
And here we are in 2023,
20 Republicans are hitting McCarthy in the head with the gavel, and all he can do is say,
thank you. May I have another? End of round five, start round six. Ali nailed it with that post
right there. And the contrast, Brett, President Biden today, I know I overuse the word literally sometimes, so I'm very self-aware, but here may be a time where I can use it, is literally building bridges in the state of Kentucky. Democrats, Republicans, senators, actual not the MAGA extremist House of Representatives,
talking about normalcy, not this craziness.
And at the end of the day, that's what Americans long for.
We just want normalcy.
We don't want this weirdness.
So let me show you this clip.
This is actually Mitch McConnell today in Kentucky praising President Biden and the Democratic governor,
Andy Beshear. Let's play this clip. We all know these are really partisan times,
but I always feel no matter who gets elected, once it's all over, we ought to look for things
we can agree on and try to do those even while we have big differences on other
things. And this bridge, I think, symbolizes the coming together of both sides on something
that both sides thought was important to try to get an outcome. You have a Democratic governor
here, Governor Beshear, a Republican legislature led by Senate President Stivers, Kentucky House led
by Speaker David Osborne, Chris McDaniel from Northern Kentucky who took the lead on it
down in Frankfort to provide the matching funds that we needed to make this project
go forward.
So it's not just this project but the infrastructure bill, the
bipartisan infrastructure bill that the president signed provides dramatic
additional assistance just looking at the Kentucky side of the river. This
project plus other projects over eight billion dollars over the next five years. This is really quite significant.
And as we know, even though it benefits us in Ohio and Kentucky,
nationally, this was one of the big projects in the entire country
to deal with the crumbling infrastructure that we've all been talking about for years.
And so we finally stepped up together and addressed it.
It's also great to see the governor of Ohio here.
We used to be colleagues in the Senate, Governor DeWine and his team.
So if you look at the political alignment of everyone involved in this, it's the government
working together to solve a major problem
at a time when the country needs to see examples like this of coming together and getting an
outcome. And so I'm pleased to be here today to be a part of this. I encouraged it. I supported it.
And I'm proud of what we've been able to accomplish working together with the people. It's like a different universe.
It's a different, I mean, and the right universe.
That's the way politics used to be, you know,
which is why as critical I am of McConnell.
And I think McConnell did just some dastardly things in his career,
especially during the Obama administration.
So I am no way an apologist for
him. But what you saw there is actually what bipartisanship is, is passing an infrastructure
bill and bringing people together of all political parties. And you contrast that to the chaos
of these like performance artist, fascist house, you know, of representatives, MAGA Republicans
who are okay with fascism, who are okay if Putin destroys America, if that owns the libs, Brett.
They prefer that. And in fact, one of the interesting things that I've seen over the
past kind of few months, you see the deliberate language that the right uses to describe things. And I keep seeing
this phrase, this term that they continue to use anytime there are moments of bipartisanship,
they go up, that's the uniparty at work. That's the uniparty, the uniparty. They always try to
say things that they think make themselves sound smart, but really to them, any sort of areas of compromise, any areas where you could find
disagreement, any areas where you actually see government actually working when it's even weird
for us. And like you said, Ben, I'm no Mitch McConnell fan by any means, absolutely despise
the guy. He's been one of the most destructive forces imaginable. But when we could see him and
President Biden getting together to
actually pass meaningful legislation that is going to help Americans, I could put those differences
aside and I could say, you know what, this is a good thing without going uniparty, uniparty,
look at the uniparty. They just go to these terms. And when they do that, they make it because to
them, everything is a zero sum game game i got some breaking news to report
this is from robert costa costa report says top mccarthy allies tell me it's time for everyone to
get in a room and talk about a deal that gives mccarthy the gavel but wins over the critics
not sure how they do that but there is a push now to adjourn and haggle
for the rest of the day. This is also driven by a fear among the Republican Party. So, Brett,
what do you make of that? What do I make of that? I mean, they should have gotten in a room
days ago or weeks ago. They should have hashed this out. I don't know. You're going to do it
now after the fifth vote. As you start heading towards the sixth vote, you're going to try to get
into a room. And I still don't understand what else Kevin McCarthy can concede. It's like what
I was saying earlier. It's like what Ron Filipkowski had said in that tweet. I truthfully
don't understand right now what he could concede that would make these people accept him as speaker, unless it, the
concessions are so stark that it literally makes it so that any single day imaginable,
he could be booted from the role, which would give him no power whatsoever, which would
make every move that he does extremely precarious, which would put him on thin ice nonstop.
I mean, every day would look like today.
And so he really doesn't have a good viable path ahead.
Sure.
There may be paths ahead.
They don't end well for Kevin McCarthy though,
even if he does have,
and I really say this with quotes,
even if he does have a power,
because we are seeing right now the limits of what that power would even be.
And they all just look like such clowns. How don't you go to the floor? If you're Kevin McCarthy,
it's politics 101, as Jen Psaki had tweeted the other day. You got to have the votes.
Otherwise, you're just going to get in. I mean, there's no comeback for him in this,
no matter what. He is humiliated. Let's pull up the cover of the Daily News.
This is so good.
It's the GOP shit show starring the liar and the loser.
And that is what's at place there.
Contrast that to what is going on in Kentucky,
where you got President Biden literally building bridges
right there, focusing on bipartisan infrastructure, going back from MAGA chaos into normalcy land,
which I crave, you crave, all pro-democracy craves. Do we have the clip of President Biden
joking about Mitch McConnell, which is what politics is a little bit all about.
If we got that clip salty, let's put that on the screen now.
Folks, I'm especially happy to be here with my friend and colleague in many years.
And I might add a longest serving leader in the United States Senate, Senator Mitch McConnell. Mitch,
it's great to be with you. I asked permission if I could say something nice about him. I didn't
want to. I said I campaigned for him or against him, whichever helped him most. But Mitch,
it's, you know, it wasn't easy to get this done,
and it wouldn't have gotten done no matter all the work so many others have done
by writing the legislation and dropping it in.
It wouldn't have happened without your hand.
It just wouldn't have gotten done, and I want to thank you for that.
And, you know, we have to find common ground,
common ground to get major legislation done in any circumstance ever. negotiate with terrorists when it is exactly these terrorists that McCarthy has capitulated to
ever since they attacked the Capitol in hopes of securing their votes for his job. And we gave you
the most recent breaking news from Costa Reports that there's now talks of going back and having
a negotiation. It's like, okay, now you're doing that.
Now you're doing that. And look, what we're seeing here is just think about when we have to deal with
issues like the debt ceiling. Think about when we have to deal with funding for our troops.
Think about when we're dealing with healthcare. Think about what we're doing for the economy.
Think about when we're dealing for issues for our veterans. The main issue that I think there's actually been unanimous agreement with on the Republican
Party in their various speeches from all sides, like the uniting force right there,
is their attacks of Ukraine. Because I've heard that repeatedly from the 20 people who are not
supporting McCarthy, as well as the McCarthy base, how they just want to attack
Zelensky, attack Ukraine, prop up Vladimir Putin. And fortunately, what Vladimir Putin
underestimated is that despite the fact that he probably bought off all these MAGA Republicans,
we have a larger pro-democracy community, a vibrant one here in the United States.
We got someone in office, President Biden, who's been incredibly normal, incredibly normal,
which is what MAGA Republicans hate, who has supported our allies, who has rebuilt our
standing internationally.
And here's a clip from President Biden from earlier in the day
where President Biden spoke to the press and said, I want you to think about how internationally
this is making us look and how this reflects upon us. Here, play this clip of President Biden.
He's so right. Congratulations. This is not a good look. It's not a good thing. It's the United States of America. And I hope they get their act together.
And what's going to happen if there is no speaker for a week or a month? What's the impact? Let's be normal. get to see who these people are. The level of disgust is going to grow by the moment.
We're approaching hour three of our nonstop coverage live stream of the historic developments
here. Not since over a hundred years, not since 1923, have we seen a speaker, a wannabe speaker, not secure it in the first roll call
vote. We are now past five roll call votes and the defectors against Kevin McCarthy only continue
to grow. We were at 19 yesterday, then 20 today. We are at 21 defections. We have a lot more to discuss on our ongoing.
Gates, by the way, man, Gates is working it.
We're seeing footage of Gates still trying to work the crowd, trying to do something out there.
We got to get a lip reading expert on the show, because when we put out that clip that got millions of views with AOC.
I know Ben explained what was happening during that thing.
We were all very curious as to what that conversation was. And now I'm very curious to see what Matt Gaetz is saying here
at this stage in the game, Kevin McCarthy looking like he has no path forward with talks of a
caucus-wide GOP meeting to get all the minds together to discuss their plan forward. Right
now, they just seem incredibly
helpless. And it seems like Matt Gaetz, of all people, is like the one person actually trying
to whip votes and to do something. You see Chip Roy there walking on the House floor.
They're kind of walking around like chickens without a head. These people, they don't know
what to do. They are absolutely in a bind. They should not
have even begun this process until they absolutely knew that they had the votes for a candidate.
And all the American people right now are seeing is the utter incompetence of the Republican Party.
And all we could do is hope that this affects what happens now as we go forward in future elections,
that Americans will say, I cannot
trust this party to govern. I cannot trust this party with my healthcare. I cannot trust
this party with our veterans, with our drug prices. Absolutely not. These people are unfit.
We are in hour three of our coverage. It is official. Everybody watching out there, do me this favor.

institutions and fighting against fascism. And we're seeing chaos on the floor of the House of Representatives by chaos agents, by chaos agents, by MAGA extremists.
Let's recap what has been going on over the past 48 hours, Jordy.
Not since 1923 has someone failed to secure the speakership in the first roll call vote?
Well, yesterday we went through one, two, three roll call votes.
It's not the end of the ball game.
Not for Kevin McCarthy.
He just keeps going.
I like the LeBron moment, Ben.
Not one, not two, not three.
I mean, this is going to keep going.
Yesterday there was 19 defections. Then we hit 20 defections. Today we hit 21 defections with one Republican from Indiana voting present. And so we have 21 defections. It does not look like it is getting any better
for Kevin McCarthy, but let's do a bit of a recap of how we got here. But I want to take us back,
get those popcorn emojis ready. Let me take us back to 2000. Hold on. Let's go to the house
floor before we get our popcorn emojis ready. Let's see what's going on in the house floor. Let's watch the clerk of the house.
Is the house being ordered? Thank you. The tellers agree in their tallies that the total number of votes cast is 433,
of which the Honorable Hakeem Jeffries of the State of New York has received 212.
Popcorn, popcorn emojis.
The Honorable Kevin McCarthy of the State of California has received 201.
Clown emojis, clown emojis.
The Honorable Byron Donalds of the state of Florida has received 20.
Puke emojis, puke emojis.
With one recorded as present.
No member elect having received a majority of the votes cast, a speaker has not been elected.
For what purpose does the gentlewoman from Florida rise?
Thank you, Madam Clerk. I rise today to nominate Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the People's House.
Looks like they're doing it again, folks. It looks like they're doing it again.
Unbelievable.
Here we go.
The gentlewoman is recognized.
Puke emojis, poop emojis, clown emojis, welcome.
Get them out.
Well, it's Groundhog Day.
Again, and if it's all right with you, I would like to...
Thank you, Madam Clerk. If it's all right with you all, I would like to address,
not you, but the American people. Because, quite frankly, they are... Well, we don't have a speaker yet.
So, the American people, well, they are our boss, and we work for them.
Yesterday, as we were here on the House floor, our constituents from all around the country made their voices heard.
Today, the calls, the text messages, emails, they all continue.
People are letting their voice be heard.
And that is a very, very good thing.
Because that is what we are, after all, a constitutional republic that serves all Americans, not just a select few.
To all Americans watching right now, I want to tell you that we hear you.
We hear you.
And we will get this right.
No matter how messy this process is, we will emerge better for having been through this.
Clown emojis. Let's get out clown emojis. For the last several months, negotiations have gone back
and forth over a rules package to make this chamber, your chamber, a better place to deliver
better results for you, the American people. And I want to remind everyone watching, listening, here in this chamber, that this chamber and
this body, our country, we are bigger than a single person or a single moment in time.
We are a nation collectively of great people, great patriots, and great moments of courage.
The rules package that has been highlighted by so many of my colleagues
dictates how this chamber functions, how bills come to the floor, how much time we
get to read these bills, whether or not we will get single-issue bills, and
whether or not we can vote proxy. And as you have witnessed from events
yesterday, so many people have said, what are the next steps? What will we accomplish if we continue
down this current path? Will we wake up tomorrow and be in this exact same place? The people calling my office said over and over and over again,
it is time to get to work. Anything less is unacceptable. And you know, as we stood on this
House floor yesterday, and again today, over 200 people were poisoned from fentanyl. Fentanyl that came from an open border because of the Biden open border policy.
Clown emojis.
Were encountered at the border.
Total utter clown.
These MAGA Republicans are the biggest clowns in the world.
They don't sit around their kitchen tables at night saying, I wonder who's going to be speaker.
No, they elect people to come here
to do the things that matter, the issues that impact them every single day. And in an era of
uncertainty, the last thing they need is uncertainty within this chamber. The last thing we need is
insurrectionists like you, fascists like you. We are their voice in this chamber.
And they didn't send us to be perpetual critics.
They sent us to get things done.
And as we all know, because after all we are in politics, the line of critics is always long.
But the list of those that are actually rolling up their sleeves and doing the difficult job of leading, of uniting, of delivering results, especially in a chamber like this, well, that list is very short.
Kevin McCarthy has proved that he can get
things done. He has proven that he is willing to stand up in the face of critics and not only prove
them wrong, but work with them. The only thing sovereign in this republic are its people,
and they have deemed it right to place a check on the Biden administration and put our party,
the Republican Party, in control of this chamber. Now is the time that we take control.
I understand a lack of trust among some of our colleagues. I do.
Will the House be in order?
I understand a lack of trust among some of our colleagues.
But what I am asking, what I am asking is that we all trust the American people who sent our colleagues here.
This House is the only part of the federal government that stands for election every two years. Therefore, this chamber is an instrument of the people's will, and the people
have overwhelmingly voted for Kevin McCarthy. if we continue down this road, if we continue with the actions of yesterday and today,
we stifle the will of the American people.
The changes to the rules of this place and how it functions have been overwhelmingly positive.
By the way, you are listening to Kat Kamak, an insurrectionist from
Florida. She supported objecting to the electoral count after the insurrection took place and said
the insurrection shows more why there needs to be an objection. You are looking at a traitor
to the United States of America right now. And while she spews in and tries to inject
disinformation,
we here at the Midas Touch Network
are going to call traitors, traitors,
and let you know you are watching
a true traitor to our democracy.
You are watching a fascist wannabe.
You are watching someone who objected
to the results of the 2020 election
after the insurrection and cheered on the insurrection.
A despicable human being on the screen right now cheering on Kevin McCarthy. More GOP fascists. That's the only way to start the
people's business. The very reason that we're all here. It's to unify and get to work. Because we
must commit to unity instead of division because we owe it to the American people who sent us here.
We must choose to lead in the face of a liberal Senate
and Obama's JV team in the White House.
We owe it to the American people.
The American people sent a conservative majority to govern this body,
but we cannot even begin to govern because-
Traitor, phony.
As members of Congress-
Total traitor.
I've traveled the country for the last two years
as the youngest
Republican woman in the 117th Congress, helping to secure a majority of members. You are watching
a fascist traitor gaslight our country right now. A despicable person, someone who will go down
in history as a traitor to our country, trying to gaslight you right now. This is somebody who voted to
object to the electoral count after the insurrection, hours after the mob stormed the U.S.
Capitol in hopes of stopping the certification of the electoral votes. She was a freshman
congresswoman, and she doubled down her actions. She goes, quote, especially after tonight's unacceptable
breach of the House, I am furthermore resolved in the fact that we as representative of the people
must stand for every American's right to a free and fair election by trying to undermine her vote.
We can go back to her speech right now, but I'm not just going to let her talk and spread fascism
without calling her out. Let's go back. Let clerk would ask all members elect to abide by the established
decorum of the House while making
nominations.
Gentlewoman is recognized.
As evidenced by my colleagues'
actions.
So today I am asking my friends and colleagues, are we the party of Reagan Republicans?
Reagan who said, someone who is with me 80% of the time is a loyal and good friend, not a 20% traitor? Are we the party of Reagan? That is the question that I ask you to answer as we embark on this next ballot.
It's upon us to remain a nation of equal opportunity, not equal outcome. That is what
is on the line here today. And that
is why I am nominating Kevin McCarthy. And I humbly ask for your support. Madam Clerk, I yield back.
Get those clown emojis out right there. How despicable is that? You're watching a traitor
to the United States of America who cheers on the insurrection. Let's go back to the House floor and see what happens next if an alternative candidate is going to be suggested by the House.
For what purpose does the gentleman from California rise?
Madam Clerk, I rise to nominate Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker of the House, the lead vote-getter in the last five rounds.
The gentleman is recognized.
The last five rounds.
Madam Clerk, Madam Clerk, Democrats are united behind a speaker who will build safer communities.
He's a leader in gun violence prevention. He's worked to make our criminal justice system more fair, more equitable,
and more effective. And he's done it working with both sides of the aisle. A leader who has a track
record in actually getting things done. And he understands that public safety, public health,
and economic opportunity must go hand in hand. That's why
at the direction of the Democratic caucus, I advance the name of Hakeem Jeffries from Brooklyn,
New York, as our next speaker for the 118th Congress. Now let's see what the other 2021 Republicans who don't support Kevin McCarthy are going to do.
Who are they going to nominate? Let's see what happens.
This gentleman from Pennsylvania, right?
Here we go.
I'm a speaker to nominate the gentleman from Florida, Mr. Donalds.
The gentleman is recognized.
Thank you.
Ladies and gentlemen, no matter what side of the aisle you're on,
no matter what your political persuasion,
one thing is universally recognized across this country.
Washington is broken.
Washington is completely broken, whether it's a wide open border,
millions of people streaming across, terrorists, terrorists criminals fentanyl coming right to
your community not at the border but into your community overdoses scott perry's under criminal
investigation by the department of justice your town because an integral role in the insurrection
is broken he was the one who introduced jeff clark to overthrow the Department of Justice.
We have his text messages with Mark Meadows.
We have two insurrectionists fighting each other right now.
On the one hand, we have the Congress member from Florida and Scott Perry. You can get out those clown emojis right now
for criminal Scott Perry.
...Christmas that nobody outside of this town wanted.
If you've been here for one year, you voted on that once. If you've been here for three years,
you voted on the same thing three times. If you've been here for 10 years,
you voted on it 10 times. Washington is broken. We got crime running across the streets,
no matter what community you're in, because now this town has decided that somehow the criminals aren't understood and we've abandoned the victims.
This is what people in our country are dealing with.
You are the criminal.
We are funding wars in other countries while we're destroying our own military because this town is broken. We have an administration that has contempt for the
American people and is using these big corporations to spy on Americans and using the instruments of
federal power to persecute and prosecute them because this town is broken. And this place is
literally broken. There hasn't been an amendment on the floor for six years in this town. So if you're not on the Committee of Jurisdiction, but it affects your citizens,
well, too bad for you. You just vote yes or you just vote no. That's not how this place was
designed to be. We vote on bills that have all kinds of things that have nothing to do with the
bill itself. Everybody came here because they said
to their constituents, this town is broken and I want to fix it. Well, how are you going to fix it
if you come to this town and just step right in line and keep doing the same things that everybody
has done before you? It's not going to fix it and the American people know it.
And I would say this, I think the person that has done the most, that has done the most
to make this fabulous, this wonderful Republican majority is Speaker Pelosi and her policies.
That's what has achieved this majority over here because the American people
are sick and tired of it and they've had enough of it. Now, this is not about personalities.
It's not about personalities. It's about the policies that come out of here.
This is not about personalities on this side of the aisle or that side of the aisle.
We believe and we want
to believe
we believe and we want to believe
that every person that comes
here, left, right,
center, has the best intentions
for our country.
The best intentions for our country.
It's not about the personalities in this contest. for our country, the best intentions for our country. Literally an insurrectionist speaking right now.
It's not about the personalities in this contest.
It is not personal for us.
But because we all acknowledge and we all know that Washington is broken,
we must take a new path.
There must be a new vision so that Congress works for the American people.
Because the American people are watching what's happening here, and they've watched what's happened here, and they're sure in their hearts.
And they can prove it, that this town works for this town.
That's who this town is working for.
Ladies and gentlemen, we are making history today.
We are making history in this process.
And we are showing the American people that this process works.
Yeah, it's been about 100 years.
It's been about 100 years since this has happened before.
But we have said we are not going to take any more of Washington being broken.
We're going to do something for the American people, and we're going to fix it. And is not going to take any more of Washington being broken. We're going to do
something for the American people and we're going to fix it. And is it going to be painful? And is
it going to be difficult? Yeah, it probably is. That's why it took a hundred years. It probably
is, but we're going to do it. And we can also make history today by making the first...
Will the House be in order by electing the first black republican speaker of the house
yes thank you
now as my colleagues probably know the first black members of Congress to serve in this body were Republicans.
Were Republicans.
As a matter of fact, you probably also know that Frederick Douglass, who went and worked with Abraham Lincoln to emancipate the people of color in this country, said he would never be anything but a Republican.
Would never be anything but a Republican, would never be anything but a Republican. I am here to nominate Byron Donalds because he has accomplished many
things. He is a man of faith. He is a family man. He is a businessman, and he is a man of community
service. He's come from the school of hard knocks because not all outcomes in life are equal but america
is the place where we can each do great things regardless of our humble beginnings each one of us
now byron is product of single family where it's not easy it's not easy but he has succeeded in
america and that's a testament to what we have created here and what we're trying to save.
He's got a record of accomplishing things.
He has a record of being on the right side.
He is respected.
He is trusted.
He is capable, and he achieves results.
Now, Byron has a big mind, and he's big in stature as well.
He's very nice, but I will tell you this, in a negotiation,
in a negotiation with Chuck Schumer, I sure will want to be on the other side of Byron Donalds. He
knows who he is. He knows what his foundation is, and he knows that Washington is broken,
and what Chuck Schumer sends over here isn't going to work out for the American people. Ladies and gentlemen, Washington is broken. Byron Donalds
will inspire us and restore our citizens' faith that this institution actually works for them.
And it is my highest honor to nominate a gentleman from Florida, Byron Donalds,
to be the next Speaker of the House in our year. So there you have it, folks. We go into our sixth
roll call round. We are three hours and 30 minutes into this. Let's go back to the floor of the house
and see what happens. Roll gets called the sixth round, but here's what I want us all to look out for as the roll is called for the sixth time.
Will there be more defections than just the 21 defections? The first congresswoman who you heard
speak to nominate, Kevin McCarthy, she is an insurrectionist. What you're just seeing now
on the screen is the roll call as they go alphabetically throughout the names. We will alert you when Byron Donalds
receives five votes, in which case Kevin McCarthy will lose again for the sixth time. The Democrats
are standing strong, as Eli Mostel just put it. Every time the Democrats nominate Hakeem Jeffries,
it's always with policy in mind. And they talk about
a policy objective and goal. Every time Republicans speak, it is with insults and grievances
and whining and complaining. I thought it was such a good observation that he made there.
And there's two factions taking place right there within the Republican Party, which is now the MAGA Republican Extremist
Party. The first lady who spoke was an insurrectionist. She voted to overturn the
results of the election after the insurrection. They say hindsight's 20-20. For her, the
insurrection was motivation to deny a free and fair election. Literally, the words that she used afterwards
was that the insurrection inspired her to object to the election results. So that was the first
speaker nominating Kevin McCarthy. Then you have Scott Perry. Scott Perry from Pennsylvania is
under DOJ investigation. There was a search warrant executed on his phone. He was the one
who introduced Jeff Clark, who's under criminal investigation, the low-level Department of Justice
operative who tried to become the attorney general. All of the United States attorneys
said they would go on to resign if Jeff Clark was appointed because Donald Trump wanted to
send a letter on Department of Justice letterhead directing the
states to overturn the results of their election. Jeff Clark would do that. And Scott Perry, who
just spoke, introduced Jeff Clark to Trump, where the plot began to institute Jeff Clark as the head
of the Department of Justice. Fortunately, that did not take place after certain people who worked in the Trump
administration said, we're all going to resign if you do that and humiliate you. Trump, like the
coward that he is, backed down when that took place. But Scott Perry also compared Jim Jordan
to George Washington. That's been a talking point we've seen throughout the day. You want to talk about clowns, chaos agents,
fascists. They're calling Jim Jordan, George Washington. And I think we have a few of these
clips from earlier in the day and last night of MAGA Republicans. And Salty, if we have
the Scott Perry clip where he referred to Jim Jordan as George Washington or or any of those clips.
Let's put one of those up right now. But this is Scott Perry, who you just heard calling him
George Washington. Let's play the clip. Well, if you listen to watch the speech that Jim Jordan
gave, quite honestly, most Republicans sat there and said, oh, my goodness, why isn't this guy
running for speaker? And while I know Jim would be reluctant to remind everybody, George Washington quite honestly most republicans sat there and said oh my goodness why isn't this guy running
for speaker and while i know jim would be reluctant i remind everybody george washington
was reluctant too when his country called so the way george washington we have uh that talking
point is being repeated by let's so i think we have lauren bobert saying that as well and salty
let's play bobert our candidate is jim jordan he may not want it right now but george washington did not want to
be president he did what was right for his country yeah that's the talking point over and over again
and i'm not sure do we have uh we have chris stewart by the way donald's wow donald's is
picking up votes quickly i haven't seen i gotta go i gotta go check with donald's is now at four votes very very quickly
though in the past it's taken him one more vote and mccarthy will lose the sixth round but i want
to go check right now if there's been some defections because that went to four awfully
quickly it's in the past that's taken about 15
minutes of the count as we're now on hour three. We're three hours and 30 minutes into this
marathon live broadcast. But let's go to the House floor. Let me just check out if there was
any defections because that hit four awfully quickly. And I'll be right back to you. But
let's watch the vote count. Calvert. McCarthy. Kamik. McCarthy. Caraveo. Jeffries. Carbajal. Jeffries. Cardenas. Jeffries. Carrie McCarthy.

As we watch right now, look for the Donald's number at four. five, it will essentially be a foregone conclusion that we'll be able to project that
Kevin McCarthy will not win the speakership in the sixth round. I am looking to see if there's
any other notable defections, if there will go from 21 defections up to 22 or 23. But Jordy,
this is just complete and utter humiliation right now for Republicans and the MAGA
extremists. What do we just watch when they're doing the nominations? I mean, that's what we're
going to see more of. And the American people are going to see more. And just the utter incompetence
of this Republican Party, that they are so hell bent on just attacking people for no reason,
a name calling without any purpose.
They don't want to lead. They just want to make noise. They want to be loud. They want people to
hear their voices. But as we saw in this last midterm election cycle, that that crap doesn't
resonate with the American people. The American people are so sick of that. And when you looked
at the Democrats nominate there, when you looked at the Democrats nominate, Ben, it was just
totally normal, right? It was,
hey, this is what we're going to do. This is why he's going to be a good speaker. And this is what
pro-democracy- There you have it, Jordy.
Oh my goodness. There you have it. The votes for Donald
has now surpassed five. It's now at six. We can predict here now and call it on the Midas Touch Network that
Kevin McCarthy will almost certainly lose the sixth roll call round. The only thing left to
be determined right now is if it will be more than 21 defections. It is official. Kevin McCarthy
will almost certainly, uh more than five votes
for donald's kevin mccarthy will lose this sixth round and it seems that their strategy what they're
just gonna keep on doing is just keep on doing they're just gonna keep on going through this
everybody make sure you hit the subscribe button right now it's's free to subscribe. Subscribe to the Midas Touch Network. And Jordy,
to that end and to your point, I put a lot of blame on large old media companies,
the legacy media companies that want to normalize this behavior. That's why when I saw those
Republicans giving the speech,
I interjected and called them out. I want people to know that's a criminal, that's a traitor,
they're under criminal investigation, and to give the appropriate context and not give the gas
lighting a normal platform right there. I mean, you have Scott Perry invoking the name of Frederick
Douglas. Are you kidding me? He should never even utter that name. I mean, you have Scott Perry invoking the name of Frederick Douglass. Are you kidding me?
He should never even utter that name.
I mean, it is utterly disgusting, performative BS, completely bogus.
That's the way he goes it. That's how that's that's where he's going with this.
Are you absolutely kidding me?
And that's why it's important to go, you know, with the first congresswoman who was speaking
and supporting Kevin McCarthy.
Like you supported the insurrection.
You support election denialism and you supported it even after the insurrection.
After the insurrection, that inspired you more.
You have to call fascist, fascist, trading, traders. And if that was what was going on every single day,
I think that there would be what we're seeing now.
That's why we built the Midas Touch Network.
Going back to my point,
that's why I want everybody to subscribe now.
We're almost at 1 million subscribers here.
We're 100% independent.
We're 100% accountable to everybody who watches this
and them alone.
This whole operation is crowdsourced.
That's how we do it at patreon.com slash Midas Touch. We don't have millionaire or billionaire
investors who have agendas to pursue. We just say the truth. We just call it out. Fascist of fascist.
This is what is going on. Two despicable speeches, and now we see Donald's obviously voting for himself,
so they're at D. They go alphabetically. We can predict here at the Midas Touch Network,
again, that Kevin McCarthy is going to lose the sixth roll call round. Jordy, observations.
I just don't see this getting better for McCarthy, right? There's reports that they're
going to do a huddle sometime at some point today, these Republicans, and really talk it out.
But ultimately, you're dealing with two incredibly stubborn fractions here, whether it
be the Freedom Caucus or just the Republican Party in general. Now, I just don't see this
getting better for him, Ben. And it's going to be really I cannot wait, Ben, for that video of
McCarthy's all of his stuff from the speaker's office to just be moved out. What a premature
move in there. I mean,
how humiliating is that going to be? Francis Maxwell, to your point, Jordy, and he's on the
Midas Touch Network, does incredible videos for us. Francis put it great about a minute ago. He
wrote, imagine being so confident you're getting a new job that you move all your stuff into the
office only to then sit and watch as your colleagues reject you from this job,
not once, not twice, not three times, not four times, not five times, but six times and counting.
You know, and also Jay, there's just no plan. There's no plan. You know, you know, you would
think that at this point he would basically say something like look i'm either going to give
massive i don't know how he gives any more concessions right what else can he give up
he's already given him the ability to remove him at any time and we know now that there are already
21 defections so it's going to be very easy to remove him so i don't know what more that he can give. It's just a vote of five
for no confidence, but that's the state of play right now. Kevin McCarthy has lost six times.
We're almost on our fourth hour of coverage. And for each of these four hours, I've never seen this
before. When we started this stream earlier today, the fact that we are almost four hours
into this and we are seeing the same thing as this morning, it is the definition of insanity,
repeating the same results, expecting a different result and not getting a different result.
And look, you see a united pro-normal Democratic Party talking about policy. There you
have Matt Gaetz, who's about to vote for Donald. We'll see the number tick up from eight to nine.
There it goes. Let's watch to see if it goes to 21. But this is not going to get better for Kevin McCarthy. You may recall yesterday as well, there was that moment
where Gates was speaking to AOC. Do you remember that, Jordy?
I absolutely remember that.
So let me tell you what was being said there, and let me go and ask our producer,
Salty. Special shout out to Salty, though. Huge shout out to Salty.
By the way, as we've gone hours and hours and hours into this nonstop.
But to refresh those recollections, this is a clip from yesterday as you're watching the vote tick up for Donald's and defections from McCarthy, though, of AOC and Gates having a conversation.
So everybody was wondering after we posted this clip on the Midas Touch Network that's now got over 4 million views.
What are they talking about?
What are they talking about?
Here, Salty, play that clip gates was asking her saying kevin mccarthy is going around telling people
that the democrats are going to cut a deal with him and that then that he's got the votes from the Democrats.
So Kevin McCarthy was out there lying. So that was Kevin. I like how that's his plan,
Ben, to just spread rumors and lies like he's in high school or something in order to get
his fraction to vote. I mean, unbelievable. So then Gates goes to AOC and asks her. That's what
that's what if you could read lips, that's what're saying and she's saying i don't think that's the case we're definitely not supporting him at all and then he goes well
that's what he's telling us and then she goes interesting that's why so that that was that
conversation mccarthy's plan was was was trickery chicanery that he was just to lie to them and give Gates – I can't give Gates any credit. But Gates goes to AOC and asks, is that true?
Because – and she goes, uh-uh.
We're not supporting Kevin McCarthy.
Kevin McCarthy thinks that he's going to get any support from people that he was trying to kill, like actually murder, not like a metaphorically murder.
Like actually trying to kill, like actually murder, not like a metaphorically murder, like actually trying to kill. That's McCarthy's actions. Pull up this photo of Kevin McCarthy at Mar-a-Lago because
that is the explanation for a lot of this. This is after the insurrection, you're looking at two
despicable human beings right now, two fascists, two traitors, two people who will go
down in the history of our country as being, frankly, some of the worst, worst, worst enemies
of our country, two disastrous individuals. But you had Kevin McCarthy after being recorded
saying that he needs to tell Donald Trump that he needs to resign or step
aside. That's what was on the tape. But then Kevin McCarthy, when he was called out, like the little
coward freaking traitor that he is, flies down to Mar-a-Lago to kiss Donald Trump's to not allow what was initially going to be a committee that Kevin McCarthy
embraced for the January 6th committee. Then McCarthy said he's no longer supporting it,
then put insurrectionists on it, and then refused to participate in it, leading to the bipartisan
January 6th committee that was finally constituted
with the great leadership and stewardship of former Congresswoman Liz Cheney and former
Congress member Adam Kinzinger and everyone else who did an incredible job. But then you had Kevin
McCarthy attacking the January 6th committee, spreading conspiracies so that he could suck up to the MAGA extremists, so he could suck up to people
like Matt Gaetz. Well, Jordy, did you see the letter that Matt Gaetz sent to the architect
of the Capitol yesterday? Let's pull up the letter. And this letter is just so scathing.
And it says, I write to inform you that the Speaker of the House office
located in the U.S. Capitol building is currently occupied by Representative Kevin McCarthy.
As of the morning, the 117th Congress adjourned and a speaker from the 118th Congress has not
been elected. After three undeciding votes, no member can lay claim to this office.
What is the basis in law, house rule, or precedent to allow someone who has placed second, at
that time it was in three successive speaker elections, to occupy the Speaker of the House
office?
How long will he remain there before he is considered a squatter?
Please write back promptly, as it seems Mr. McCarthy can no longer be considered speaker
designee following today's balloting.
And I think we have the video of Kevin McCarthy moving in.
I'll go ask our producer to pull up.
This was Kevin McCarthy moving in to the speaker's office yesterday before the vote took place. That's how confident
he was with zero reason to be confident. Here, play the clip. what a george santos move there ben you know the expression fake it till you make it well
he's faking it but i'm telling you what he's not gonna make it we also have the video yesterday
jay of kevin mccarthy walking in confidently there we have akeem jeffries uh nominating himself
we have the video of
Kevin McCarthy walking into the Capitol yesterday saying that today is going to be a great day. It's
going to be a good day. Hold on. Let me get our producer to pull up that clip of Kevin McCarthy
saying it's going to be a great day. Mr. McCarthy, you got the votes yet?
Said we are going to have a good day today. Well, we are in day two. We are in almost approaching the fourth hour of our live
broadcast today. We now have 22,000 people concurrently watching this, more people watching
our coverage here on the Midas Touch Network than any of the large media networks on their digital platforms. Make sure you hit the subscribe button
right now and make sure you share this stream with others. Let others know about this unapologetically
pro-democracy content. We don't both sides the issues here in our platform now, thanks to all of you. None of this is possible without all of you watching and
listening to this each and every day where I get my jet fuel and where Jordy and Brett,
the other co-founders of Midas Touch, and our producer Salty, who's in the background,
you don't see, where we get all our jet fuel from to sit here four hours a day, five hours, six, however long it takes
in these marathon sessions to bring you the truth is because we are inspired by you.
We know that there is an audience for pro-democracy content that doesn't both sides it.
We can look at what's going on and call traitors, traitors, fascist, fascist.
We can call it out because we want normalcy at the end of the day. We want politicians who are not
screaming and yelling about the green M&M and how woke they think Disney is and about Mr. Freaking Potato Head and Dr. Seuss and testicle tanning
and whatever their issue is of the day. Oh, you're so woke. Pronouns. Oh, pronouns. No,
we want to build freaking bridges. We want infrastructure here. We want to talk about
jobs here. While the MAGA Republicans are forcing people to have
minimum wages and work multiple jobs so that they can give extra, extra benefits to billionaires,
literally pickpocketing the Americans, while we see Donald Trump paying $0 in taxes in the United
States of America and $200,000 in taxes to the Chinese government? We call it out. We say no
more. We're focused on making sure that Americans can get great paying jobs, not just even a living
wage, but a wage with dignity, with great working conditions that they deserve. We're focused on
making healthcare affordable to all, lowering the
healthcare costs, lowering prescription drug prices. As MAGA Republicans, they want to rail
against pharma when it comes to the vaccine, but they're rooting for big pharma when it comes to
prescription drug prices and raising the prices on everything. We want lower prescription drug
prices, making life-saving care available to people.
We want to make education accessible and affordable to all. We want to make sure a woman's
right to her bodily autonomy is protected, that she has the freedom of her body over her body
without MAGA extremists coming in and arresting her and arresting her doctor and putting her into
jail. It's absolutely despicable. We want people to marry who they love
without Jim Jordan or George Santos or whoever coming in and saying, no, you can't marry that
person. We're talking about actually building bridges right now. We're talking about making
sure people can have Wi-Fi. We're talking about supporting our veterans, the same type of clownish
performative garbage we're watching
from MAGA extremists today. Remember a few months back, the MAGA Republicans, they were fist-bumping
each other because they blocked the life-saving care for our veterans, because our veterans who
were exposed to toxic burn pits came back and wanted and deserved healthcare that they deserve, the best healthcare in the world
to our troops, the MAGA Republicans blocking that
and fist bumping and doing the same crap we're seeing here.
And the media, the large media networks,
they sit beside themselves and they just go,
oh, they're a conservative.
They're not conservative.
These people are not conservative.
They're fascists, they're traitors. They're
radicals. They are extremists. Stop giving them cover. They already have the pro-fascist media.
They've got Fox injecting disinformation into their veins every single moment. They got OAN.
They got Newsmax. We don't need large media networks to cheerlead on both
sides of them and go, oh, they're very conservative. Conservative. Conserving what?
Conserving what? They led an insurrection. They talk about terminating our constitution. They
cheer on global pandemics, these traitors. That's what we're, and you call them, what do they want to conserve?
They want to conserve their privilege at the expense of our institutions. That is what's
going on here. And America has said enough. That's why the Midas Touch Network grows the way it does.
That's why more people watch this than any other large media network at this point for what we're watching because we're just going to call it out every step of the way. Let's go to the house floor. Let's see some
of the activity taking place there. Watch that for a moment. And we are approaching hour four
of our coverage. And as you watch that, I'm going to take a very quick break. And in full disclosure, it's because I have to walk my dogs for one second. We're going to show you the house floor.
I'm going to take my dogs out for a walk so they don't pee in the house. Just being real with you
folks. Just being real. That's what's going on here. I got my Maltese and my toy poodle got to
go to the bathroom. Let's take you back to the house floor for a moment. Muzer.

So we have still the 19 defections that will likely tick up to 2021.
We'll see if there's any more defections.
We're now in hour four of our historic coverage right here on the Midas Touch Network.
The first time there's George Santos.
Go away, George Santos.
No one likes you.
And there's George Santos voting for Kevin McCarthy.
What a total and utter clown
Santos is. Another part of the clown show. But this is the first time since 1923 where someone
running for speaker has not secured the speakership in the first roll call vote. We're now on roll call vote six, losing count. It's been a long day. We're four hours into this
and McCarthy just continues to lose and lose and lose again. Is this going to go into a seventh?
Is it going to go into an eighth? Is it going to go into a ninth? We will see. But Kevin McCarthy
spending the entire day being humiliated. Donald Trump just made a post saying the single worst
person the Republicans could have as speaker would be Fred Upton, almost worse than a Democrat. Remember, he quit when I wouldn't endorse him.
Stone cold loser. It's Donald Trump attacking a Republican whose name has been floated around
as a consensus candidate, someone who could potentially get the support of Democrats and some moderate Republicans. Fred
Upton spoke earlier in the day to some media networks as his name had been floated. And
he mentioned that he hadn't really given it all that much thought, but was considering it. And
it's possible that that becomes even more of a possibility right now. Think about, too, what
Republicans are doing as well. We're seeing that Fox is reporting that the Republicans have already
set up a website prematurely to investigate the Biden family. That's going to be their major
priority, it appears, after whatever the heck is taking place here today on the House floor.
More humiliation, apparently, as President Biden is out in Kentucky with Mitch McConnell
and Republicans and Democrats together on a bipartisan basis, talking about actually
building real bridges, improving America's infrastructure, making sure that our country
remains the leader in as much as it can be in all areas, strong economy, focusing on the real
issues that matter. You got this MAGA chaos taking place. Not only can they not govern, but they can't even select someone who will be the speaker
of the House. We see that the votes for Byron Donalds has now ticked up to 20. So absolutely
no support going Kevin McCarthy's way. Over and over and over again, Kevin McCarthy is being humiliated. AOC just posted the following.
She goes, if only if Dems took a shot every time McCarthy lost a Republican, we'd all be
unconscious by now. No shots here at the Midas Touch Network. We don't encourage that, but we do encourage emojis.
The emojis that we encourage is when you see the MAGA Republican fascists speak, feel free to put
up clown emojis, puke emojis, poop emojis. Occasionally, you can put up a popcorn emoji
as things get interesting. That's what we do in our interactive
chat. Love the discussion that is taking place. But a historic 48 hours indeed as we reach the
four-hour mark on our live stream today. This is one of the most watched live streams out there right now, larger than most of the major media networks in terms of
audience engagement, about 21,000 people concurrently watching that, people who
love our democracy. And what I'm seeing over and over and over again in the comments,
and the reason we started this at the Midas Touch Network,
why we created the Midas Touch Network is really at the end of the day, what we're looking for
is normalcy. I really wasn't involved in politics for most of my life, but when I saw what was going
on in the Trump administration, I knew I had to do something. Me and my younger brothers knew we had to take some action here.
I'm so grateful with your support.
It's grown and become the Midas Touch Network.
But sure, I'm a Democrat.
Do I agree with Democrats on all of the issues?
No.
Do I agree?
Do I disagree with Democrats on some issues or many issues?
Yes. But ultimately what
I'm looking for is normalcy. You know, if the Democrats and Biden started talking, if they did
one QAnon post, one, not every single day, the way Donald Trump does it and these MAGA Republicans
do it, there was one, just one QAnon post. I'm out. I'm out
right away because I have standards. We have standards. Pro-normalcy, pro-democracy, this
exhausted majority has standards. And we care about our democracy. We care about our institutions.
That's why I say don't call these right-wingists conservative. There is nothing. They're not
conserving anything. They're destructionists. They want to destroy our democracy. They call
for terminating our constitution. And just such a contrast to what we're seeing on the House floor,
to what transpired, what was taking place in Kentucky. The one thing I wanted to say as well
is I did recognize this exhausted majority out there. And one of the problems with fascism and
how fascism, a number of problems, but the way fascism creeps up is oftentimes the exhausted
majority doesn't have a voice. And sometimes the exhausted majority is
like, all right, enough, enough. And then you get, and then you get fascism. I mean, we saw that
if you look at the March of Rome, if you look at the March of Rome, for example, which Donald Trump
did what he did with Mussolini, the way we call him Mango Mussolini, the way he tried to model
what he did after Mussolini there, 80% of Italy supported the constitutional monarchy then. 20%
supported Mussolini, supported fascism. But there was an exhausted majority there.
And here, I think the exhausted majority doesn't have or didn't have a voice. The large
media networks were not speaking the truth. We're not amplifying what needed to be amplified. We're
both sizing the issues. We got to call that out. We have to call that out here. And what we're
seeing today, one of the reasons it's so important to spread the message about this network,
to make sure you subscribe to this network, is we need to get out the truth. We need to be unapologetically pro-democracy. We need to call traitors, traitors and fascists, fascists.
As we go and we pull up what's happening on the 20 votes, McCarthy at 189, Hakeem Jeffries now at 208.
What I'm looking for right now is if there are going to be any more defectors, if that number
20 is going to increase. We know in the last round, there was one Republican from Indiana. She voted present. So there was 21 defections.
Will we see more defections right now?
We will be looking for that.
We will be seeing if there's any additional defections there.
But let's show the clip of President Biden today.
This is President Biden in Kentucky, just joking in a bipartisan way. This is what politics
used to be. And one of the things that I have such mixed emotions about is that these MAGA
Republicans are so radical, they make Mitch McConnell look somewhat normal. And I disagree
with McConnell on mostly everything. To say I disagree is putting it lightly. But at least you
have adults out there in Kentucky, normal adults
who are focused on actually building bridges while we see this complete and utter mess taking place.
Before I show you that clip, let's go to the House floor. Let's see what the clerk is saying.
And I think what the clerk is saying now, they are just looking for additional votes right now.
They finished going through their first count.
They are seeing if there are other votes and they're trying.
The talliers are identifying if there's others out there because it looks like there are two or three Democrats who are missing.
We've seen in the past that Jeffrey's number hit around 212.
And it looks like there are more than a few Republicans who are missing.
And so we'll see if that number goes to Donald's other or present.
Let's look at that.
Before doing that, let's play that clip I was referencing with President Biden in Kentucky.
Let's play that clip.
Folks, I'm especially happy to be here with my friend and colleague in many years.
And I might add longest serving leader in the United States Senate, Senator Mitch McConnell.
Mitch, it's great to be with you. I asked permission if I could say something nice about him.
I said I campaigned for him or against him, whichever helped him most.
But Mitch, it's, you know, it wasn't easy to get this done.
And it wouldn't have gotten done no matter all the work so many others have done.
And by writing the legislation and dropping it in, it wouldn't have happened without your hand.
It just wouldn't have gotten done. And I want to thank you for that. And, you know, we have to find common ground,
common ground to get major legislation done in any circumstance ever.
So one thing I want to add, this is Manu Raju reporting this about a minute ago, we know that
Kevin McCarthy will lose this round, we see that there was a vote present as well, so there you
have the 21 defections from round five, again in round six, Manu Raju writes, a welcome development
for McCarthy, Dan Bishop, one of the 20 no's,
told me things have changed and there is a dynamic kind of atmosphere now. I'm encouraged by it.
Asked if he is a hard no, Bishop said, I have never said no way because I don't think in those
terms. We've been gaslit by these MAGA Republicans all day, but wanted to bring that
development to you. And we compare that to the normalcy that you saw there in Kentucky with
President Biden. And that's, again, what it comes down to. We want normalcy, none of the craziness,
none of this extremism, none of this radical behavior that we're seeing by the MAGA Republicans.
So there you have it, folks. You have McCarthy, 201, Hakeem Jeffries, 212. You have Byron
Donalds, 20, and then one vote present. That looks like that'll be where the final tally is on the sixth roll call vote.
This is the sixth vote for speaker. We will be likely going, we will be likely, we definitely
will be going into a seventh roll call vote. The question is, will that take place today?
Will they be able to adjourn today? And the other question is, is that if Kevin McCarthy is somehow able to become speaker
after this complete humiliation, the concessions that he is going to have to give is going
to turn the House of Representatives into a complete and utter clown.
It already is.
It already is with the mag republicans looks like we're
seeing uh that george santos back there as well speaking to gates um which is an interesting
development if you've got santos talking to gates at least someone's talking to uh santos but
their santos uh looks like he is talking Gates, which will be interesting to see if Gates is trying to
pick off Santos, which would be somewhat hilarious in and of itself if that was what's taking place.
The camera's now panning to Congress member Byron Douglas, who I believe is speaking to
Lauren Boebert. Douglas received 20 votes in this round. Lots and lots of developments here. We will
keep you posted. We are now in the fourth hour. We are in our four hours and 15 minutes into this
live stream. For those just tuning in, historic developments. We started broadcasting live
yesterday where after three roll call votes,
Kevin McCarthy cannot secure the speakership. There were 19, then 20 defections. Today,
we've seen the 20 defections go up to 21 defections. I just read Manu Raju's reporting
from Dan Bishop, who's been one of the no's, who said that there's a bit of a dynamic atmosphere
right now and says that he's encouraged by it. Bishop, a MAGA Republican, this is perhaps a
welcome development for McCarthy, although it's entirely not clear. And the mood in the House of
Representatives, you've got Democrats completely united, Democrats continuing to vote for Hakeem Jeffries.
And in each successive vote for Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker of the House, Democrats talking
about policy, Democrats talking about issues that matter to the American people and why
Hakeem Jeffries would make a great Speaker of the House.
Based on the dynamic of the House, the votes aren't there for
a Democrat leader to become Speaker of the House unless there is a deal cut with moderate Republicans,
although are there any moderate House Republicans anymore is the real question. I don't think there
are. When we saw earlier before the sixth round, the two factions, you had two insurrectionists
endorsing two different leaders. And that dynamic playing out over and over and over again right now
is really something to behold. I mean, you had the first individual who nominated a congresswoman from Florida.
She objected to the electors after the insurrection. She said the insurrection
inspired her to block the free and fair election. Then on the other hand, you had Scott Perry,
who's under criminal investigation by the Department of Justice. He introduced Jeff Clark, who's under criminal investigation,
to Donald Trump, the low-level Department of Justice official who wanted to take over the DOJ
to issue a memo to states to overturn the results of their free and fair election. So
I don't really think there is, in the current Republican Party, any moderate Republicans. You just have different
degrees of it. We saw on Fox that the Republicans have already set up their website, their first
big policy agenda. It's a website about investigating the Biden family. That's what
they will be rolling out immediately, not focusing on inflation, not focusing on crime, not focusing
on issues because they're the creators of those things. They're the reason that there's bad inflation. They're the reason that there's
more crime. You want to go to Kevin McCarthy's district in Bakersfield. Bakersfield is like the
homicide capital, not just of California. And it's not just the capital of crime in California,
but really of the country. And that is Kevin McCarthy's district, because it's all performative. It's all performative
gestures with them. So as we learn more about what's taking place, why don't we bring you back
to just what's transpired over the past 48 hours? And so it began with Kevin McCarthy walking into
the Capitol yesterday saying, it's going to be a great day. Today is going to be
a good day. If we've got the votes yet?
And then it quickly devolved into not a great day, would be putting it lightly. And McCarthy started name dropping and calling Matt Gaetz out directly and said that Gaetz said that they don't care if Hakeem Jeffries is elected.
Here, let's play that clip of McCarthy yesterday. For a long time, I've been leader for four years.
I came into this position and we had less than 200 members. We are now sitting in the majority.
We put forth to the American public a commitment to America. There's times we're going to have to
argue with our own members if they're looking at for only positions
for themselves, not for the country.
For the last two months, we worked together as a whole conference to develop rules that
empower all members.
But we're not empowering certain members over others.
Last night I was presented the only way to have 218 votes if I provided certain members
with certain positions, certain gavels, to take over the church committee, to have 218 votes, if I provided certain members with certain positions, certain gavels
to take over the church committee, to have certain budgets. And they even came to the position
where one Matt Gaetz said, I don't care if we go to plurality and we elect Hakeem Jeffries and it
hurts the new frontline members not to get reelected. Well, that's not about America. And I
will always fight to put the American people first, not a few individuals that want something for themselves.
So we may have a battle on the floor, but the battle is for the conference and the country.
And that's fine with me.
Then you had Marjorie Taylor Greene after one of the failed roll call votes yesterday, also yelling at Matt Gaetz and others.
Let's play that clip. If my friends in the Freedom Caucus, Matt Gaetz and others, will not take the win when they have it,
they're proving to the country that they don't care about doing the right thing for America.
They're proving to the country that they're just a destructionist.
And that's not what we need to do as a party. That's why Republicans fail. And I'm really tired of it.
And then you had Boebert, who the civil war now is Boebert versus Marjorie Taylor Greene. Here's what Lauren Boebert said yesterday. And so now here we are being sworn at instead of being sworn in.
And we could have had this solved months ago. I have been working every day to unify the Republican Party for the American people,
and yesterday we had a deal that was not a selfish deal in any way
for Kevin McCarthy to get him the gavel on the first ballot,
and he eagerly dismissed us.
Eagerly, eagerly dismissed us. Eagerly, House Democrats are united.
And then we have, in contrast to that mood, you had McCarthy and Elise Stefanik on the floor of the House yesterday. This was the isolated there yesterday.
You had AOC yesterday and a few funny encounters. I've already played the one
of Matt Gaetz, so I don't need to play that one again here. We've talked about that ad nauseum,
and Matt Gaetz makes me ad nauseum as well. Let me show you this one of someone else who makes
me ad nauseum, nauseous, is Paul Gosar. And AOC yesterday was just speaking with all of these
bag of extremists, kind of getting the insight and information and the intel and also
egging them on. This is AOC and Paul Gosar yesterday as Kevin McCarthy yesterday lost not
one, not two, not three roll call votes. And today we've now seen him lose not one, not two,
but three roll call votes as well. Let's play this clip yesterday of AOC and Gosar. Thank you. And that was a clip from yesterday on the House floor of AOC kind of egging on Paul Gosar.
And let's go live and see what's going on on the House floor now.
There's a lot of applause. The Honorable Barron Donalds of the state of Florida has received 20.
With one member as present, no member elect having received the majority of the votes cast, a speaker has not
been elected. For what purpose does a gentleman from Oklahoma rise? I move that we adjourn until
eight o'clock this evening. The question is on the motion to adjourn. All those in favor say aye.
Aye. All those in favor say aye. Aye.
All those opposed no.
No.
The ayes have it.
The motion is adopted.
Is a member demanding the aides and aides?
Is a member demanding the aides and aides?
The motion is adopted.
The motion is adopted.
The House stands adjourned until 8 p.m. tonight.
The House stands adjourned until 8 p.m. tonight. so after the sixth roll call vote was a failure for kevin mccarthy the republicans now have
adjourned um now they will go back and ostensibly try to cut some deal or figure something out
whether it will be kevin mccarthy as speaker of the house or whether it will be Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House or whether it
will be somebody else as Speaker of the House or whether Kevin McCarthy, I'm not sure. I mean,
to borrow a term that Matt Gaetz used, he said that how can we trust Kevin McCarthy who
sells shares of himself? Can Kevin McCarthy sell any more shares of himself? Is it even possible? I think
one thing we can say for sure is that no matter what the outcome is, it seems like it's going to
be more extreme, more crazy. And the MAGA extremists, all of the chaos that we've now seen is something that is
going to be repeated every single day for the next two years unless something changes. But
the American people need to take notice of what is going on.
Large media networks who have failed to act adequately describe the chaos, the terror,
the extremism embodied in MAGA Republicans better wake up because there is a reason here
at the Midas Touch Network that this is one of the most viewed streams, most viewed,
including cable shows, people watching
this. You got to call traders, traders, got to call fascists, fascists. For those just tuning in,
the house has now adjourned. They will be adjourning until 8 p.m. Eastern, 5 p.m. Pacific.
We will be covering that live, of course, here on the Midas Touch Network. No need
to rest here while these major historic developments are taking place here. But a historic 48 hours,
not since 1923, has someone running for Speaker failed to secure it in the first roll call vote. Kevin McCarthy now has failed on six
separate roll call votes, more defections at the sixth roll call vote. In the fifth roll call vote,
21 total defections, 20 voting for Representative Byron Donalds, one vote voting present, which in essence is an objection to Kevin McCarthy. So
McCarthy has not secured the majority of all voting members. The magic number would be 218,
given the fact that Democrats have stayed united and have continued to vote for Hakeem Jeffries. No Democrats voted present. They
haven't lowered the ability to obtain that majority of voting members for Republicans.
Prior to that announcement of the House adjourning before the evening, and we'll see what developments
are happening there, we've been giving you a recount of what transpired over the past 48 hours.
And we started speaking about how Kevin McCarthy walked in very confidently, said yesterday
it was going to be a great day.
Then it devolved into chaos.
There were three roll call votes and then more fighting words against each other by
these MAGA extremists as the day progressed. You had
Marjorie Taylor Greene calling out Matt Gaetz and Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert calling out
Marjorie Taylor Greene. It got crazier and crazier throughout the day and more defections throughout
the day. Yesterday they adjourned and Kevin McCarthy's solution was apparently to
have a pizza party in the Speaker's office, which he is now a squatter in. There was supposed to be,
I guess, a pizza party out there for a celebration. As Tom Bonior put it, ah, the classic,
if you want pizza, you'll have to come to my office move. Advantage Kevin McCarthy. They canceled the pizza
party and moved all the pizza boxes into the Speaker's office where Kevin McCarthy was squatting
in and is squatting in. And essentially nothing was done yesterday. They went back out today,
had three more roll call votes where there were 21 total defections, 21 people, Republicans not voting for Kevin McCarthy.
At the same time, you have that sideshow taking place.
You literally have, I think and state prosecutors here in the United States, but also international criminal investigations with Brazilian authorities
out of Rio de Janeiro, announcing that Santos would be under criminal investigation there for
fleeing the jurisdiction in 2008 after stealing a checkbook from an individual who his mother was a caretaker
for. That's George Santos, everybody, George Santos voting for Kevin McCarthy. We got video
yesterday while all the sideshow was taking place of Kevin McCarthy heading into his first day of
school as a fraud and being asked tough questions by the media and dodging them.
Let's pull up this clip of the fraud trader, George Santos.
If we got the clip.
Your constituents, do you feel like you're qualified to serve in this Congress right
now?
How do you hope your constituents can trust you,
even though that you've misrepresented
your biography to them?
What's your response to calls
for a house ethics investigation by Nick Lovato?
Do you have any statements about your campaign
and how you hope to govern?
Do you hope to carry out your full term?
What can you say to reassure your constituents
that you'll do what you said you were going to do
on your campaign trail,
given the concerns that have come up
about statements you've made for the last few months?
And then here's that happened yesterday.
Today, Kevin McCarthy walks back in for today's votes, three roll call votes where he lost and three successive votes.
This is McCarthy walking through the public rotunda entrance.
Weird he's using that entrance, but it's McCarthy today.
Excuse us.
Are you going to be voting today?
How are you going to get more votes, sir?
Let's get more talking.
Has there been any progress?
Yeah, I think we can.
Are you going to have more than 202 on the first ballot today?
It's okay.
