The Mighty is a new program on the Midas Touch podcast channel
where we highlight the Midas contributors and their impactful musings, rants, commentary, and responses.
On today's episode of The Mighty, we hear from the top Los Angeles criminal defense
lawyer, Sara Azari, who responds to the January 6th committee findings that Trump and his
grifting criminal family and sadistic stooges told donors to donate to a quote unquote legal
fund that never existed.
Instead, the money went to people like Don Jr.'s lover, Kimberly Guilfoyle. I mean,
Kimberly Guilfoyle, who got $60,000 for a two and a half minute speech just before the January 6th
insurrection. Let's hear from Sarah. $60,000 was paid to Kim Guilfoyle, who was the fiance of Donnie Jr.,
for a two-and-a-half-minute introduction that she did
on January 6th before Donald Trump spoke
to his, you know, MAGA folk.
That pisses the f*** out of me.
The committee has found evidence that Trump and his family,
quote, personally benefited.
Personally benefited from donations.
And you said, yes.
That's a serious allegation?
Do you have more details?
Is that a crime?
Guilfoyle was paid for the introduction
she gave at the speech.
I mean, on January 6th, she received compensation for that.
But is that a crime?
I'm not saying it's a crime, but I think it's a grift.
It's a grift because you're telling Trump people,
Trump supporters out there in the hinterlands,
give us money to...
Go to court to defend this election when in fact...
And then instead Kim Guilfoyle,
who's Don Trump Jr.'s fiance, gets paid money for speaking.
$60,000 for two and a half minutes.
I'm Sarah Azari.
I'm a criminal defense attorney in Los Angeles,
and I've been following the January 6th committee hearings.
And today was lit.
I mean, we walked in there thinking
we're gonna hear about the big lie,
that we're gonna find evidence that supports the big lie,
that Trump knew he lost
the election and yet he went around lying about it. But what we found out about is that this was
a big ripoff. This was major fraud where he hit up his donors and his supporters by email. These
are not wealthy people. These are rather poor people. The average donation was about $17.
He got about to the tune of about $250 million
that he essentially grifted and lined his pockets,
you know, Trump and company did.
The money, apparently some of it,
we don't know yet where it all went,
but we know it did not go to election efforts.
So Trump was out there.
Trump people were out there saying, you know,
we need this money because the election was stolen
and we need to litigate in all these states
and prove that the election was stolen.
It was all a big lie.
He knew it was a big lie.
What he was doing, it was,
was he was stealing money to the tune of $250 million.
And God knows where it was going,
but it was not going to the election efforts.
And we will soon find out exactly where this money went.
This should be a subject of a new investigation,
but essentially we know that some of it went
to the Mark Meadows Foundation.
Remember Mark Meadows is one of the many guys
who defied the subpoena,
the congressional subpoena by the committee
and did not show up.
And also $60,000 was paid to
Kim Guilfoyle, who was the fiance of Donnie Jr. for a two and a half minute introduction that she
did on January 6th before Donald Trump spoke to his, you know, MAGA folk, that pisses the out of me.
Why?
Kim Guilfoyle was a district attorney,
a deputy district attorney here in Los Angeles
where I practice.
And back in the 90s, she was sworn in as a deputy DA.
I think she initially worked in San Francisco
before she moved to LA or vice versa.
Nonetheless, $60,000 is probably close
to her annual salary, okay?
She is not Kim Kardashian.
She is Kim Guilfoyle.
Two and a half minutes, ladies and gentlemen, $60,000.
Here's what I wanna say
to all of those who support Donald Trump.
Let's set aside whether he's gonna be
criminally indicted or not.
Let's set aside whether this is a political trial that's not going to lead to anything or whether the DOJ is going to take
action or whether Georgia is going to take action. He has ripped you off. He has conned you. If he
were to be criminally indicted, you are victims of a crime and you are owed restitution for the money that he took away from you.
This is who you are supporting.
There was clear evidence today in this hearing, even though we went in not expecting this evidence, that he stole from you.
He didn't just lie to you.
He didn't just cheat you.
He stole from you.
OK, Remember that. I don't understand what more you need before you stop supporting a con man. Okay? And let's get
back to Kim Guilfoyle. She tweeted a couple days ago. I
thought this was so interesting because you know, her job in
Trump and Company is to deflect, to divert, to create
these, you know, red herrings, right?
So she posted about all these other people that,
you know, God forbid, may have done some wrong.
Paul Pelosi, Nancy Pelosi's husband, she said,
DUI charges might get dropped.
Hunter Biden, zero charges for violating federal gun law.
And then Hillary Clinton, of course, I just want to yawn,
no accountability over the Russia hoax. And then
it's called liberal privilege. Well, this is called MAGA fraud and mega fraud. Okay. What we
learned today, you guys, is major. It's major because he did not just spread a lie that he knew
that was not true, that election was not stolen. Everybody around him, his own aides and hires told him,
"'Dude, there is no stolen votes.
"'There are none.
"'Okay, stop spinning your wheels.'"
And he chose to proceed on that lie
and rip off millions of voters, millions of people,
to the tune of $250 million that we know about.
We are yet to know where that money went, but it certainly didn't go to the purpose
that he stated to these people in his emails, the stupid emails that he sent out.
That should piss off anybody.
And to those GOP members who say that this hearing is partisan and it's one-sided
and we're spending too much money, it's costing taxpayers a lot of money,
here's what I have to tell you.
The entire first panel of the hearing today were Trump aides.
They were people in his orbit who testified.
So clearly it was not only bipartisan, but it was Trumpist.
Okay.
Secondly, I don't want to hear about the cost.
You know why I don't want to hear about the cost?
Because he has ripped off voters.
He has ripped American people off
out of money that they did not have by lying to them,
by telling them the election was stolen
when he knew that was false, okay?
You need to be pissed off by this.
You need to watch these hearings every damn time.
Watch it, believe it.
This is evidence.
This is not propaganda like you're used to with Trump.
This is evidence and what will happen with it
and what will happen to Trump remains to be seen.
But you need to know that this is a con man, all right?
That's the biggest lesson in this.
And I was floored.
Let me tell you again, Kim Guilfoyle,
you are not Kim Kardashian.
Bye, girl.
Sarah Azari.
Damn!
