about ICE detaining both parents of a U.S. Marine after already deporting the father. The parents arrested on a visit to their pregnant daughter at Camp Pendleton, who was also married to a Marine. Mom and dad, both are green card applicants, sponsored by the Marine Corps son, joined Marines out of high school to serve this country and to try to put some time in. Steve Rios served four years in active duty and is currently still serving in the reserves. His parents had valid work visas and no criminal record. Let's play it. The parents of a U.S. Marine are being detained by immigration officials. The couple's children tell us their parents were taken into custody by ICE while trying to visit their pregnant

daughter on Camp Pendleton. NBC 7, Shelby Bremer spoke with the family as they search for answers. She's live for us outside the gate there at Camp Pendleton where it happened. Shelby. Yeah, Catherine, Monica, Steve Rios is a Marine and he and his parents were headed to this gate behind me to pick up his sister and her husband who's also a Marine. They do that every weekend. But two Sundays ago, it all changed. And they wanted to share their story, I think, because this is a family that's just bursting with pride. When you step inside the Rios family home in Oceanside, you know immediately who lives there. So I joined right out of high school.

Steve Rios spent four years as an active duty Marine and is now in the reserves. He enlisted because of his parents, Esteban and Louisa. Making them proud, right? I've seen all the struggles they've gone through. They came to the U.S. from Mexico about 30 years ago, he says, and have washed cars and cleaned houses sun up to sundown for his first. whole life. The lease I could do, right, and serve this country and try to, you know, put some time in, I don't think amounts to what they've done. I mean, you look at my mom and she just has so much love in her eyes for us. His little sister Ashley never thought she'd marry a Marine too, but now she

lives on Camp Pendleton. Her family was coming to take her and her husband to breakfast on September 28th when they were stopped at the gate and Steve says ICE arrived. It was scary. As soon as I heard that, I just started like bawling. And he asked what was wrong. And I said that my parents were getting taken. They were detained, but released later that day with ankle monitors and told to check in with ICE downtown. Steve thought it would be quick. He says he's proud to now be sponsoring their green cards and they have work visas while they wait. That pride goes both ways. I remember every birthday he'd make me like a personalized card and he just loves to stress about how proud he is that his son's trying as much as he is.

It extends to his wardrobe too. This is what he wore to check in on Thursday. He said, yeah, he's my lucky shirt, so it'll be fine. So it was what he was wearing when for the second time, ice agents led him and his wife away. It's just hard because you just want to hear like your parents' voice that everything's going to be okay. They've taken Ashley out every week for the past few months because she's expecting her first child. I'd always want like my mom in that delivery room and everything.
