Starting point is 00:01:56 Either way, you'll be showing up on game day. Kovasdenham, it's made for boots. We don't value children. We try to desensitize women to even the idea of motherhood. I'm reminded of Mother Teresa's speech at the United Nations, in which she said, the greatest threat to peace in the world. It's the cry of the innocent, unborn child. If a mother can kill her own kid, there's nothing that people cannot do.
Starting point is 00:02:24 Until we know them and we assume they now have a personhood, everyone's kind of disposable. This is a verbatim quote. He just couldn't get over the fact that she viciously killed her children. And you can? My name is Nevae Sousa. Firstly, I just want to say thank you so much for carrying on with these campus events and keeping the dialogue open. I don't know if you remember, but I've met you guys a couple times at the backstage at the Ryman,
Starting point is 00:02:54 and we went to the Daily Wire Studio, and Matt was actually on my parents' podcast. We are going on a book tour later this fall, and we'll be back in your studio. So we have been, we are wanting to get on Michael's show. We were wondering. I'm in. That's the best pitch. I've ever had. If you ever want to get on my show, show up to a room of 1,500 people and pitch it on air. You're in. You're in. I'll bring the cigars.
Starting point is 00:03:20 Navea Sousa. I met you at the University of Idaho when I was out there with Matt Walsh for TPP USA. Nouvea is the author of Tiny Human, right here, available from our friend Kirk Cameron's Bray Books. You get a cool little plushy, too, if you order it the right way. I was just at another TPSA event a couple nights ago in which probably the most combative exchange was with a young woman who was defending abortion. Really? And yes. And she said, well, look, we need to defend abortion because sometimes women conceive babies
Starting point is 00:03:52 and they don't mean to have the baby. And so how dare you force that woman to carry the baby to term? I can't help, but notice, you are the result of an unplanned pregnancy. I am. My mom, she was unmarried. was fresh out of college. She had just landed her first real job. She went to school to be an educator, and she went to her employer, and she kind of explained the situation. They were like, we can't, we can no longer hire you in this circumstance. And she came from a really Christian, conservative
Starting point is 00:04:23 family, and though she was raised to be pro-life, and she had never considered abortion, she understood the fear in that moment that women go through and why they want the situation to just go away, because she thought about the fact that she has to tell her very, Christian conservative family that she was unmarried and pregnant, and there was just so much, there was so much uncertainty and fear there. And we know that one-third of Gen Z has been aborted due to that fear. And that's a fear that's very much validated by the current culture and by the abortion industry. But I'm very grateful that my mother did choose life because 20 years later. Here you are. 20 years old. Unbelievable. I, so I'm at the University of Arkansas,
Starting point is 00:05:04 And this woman says, you know, we need to be able to abort kids if they're not wanted. And I said, I have plenty of friends who are the result of unplanned pregnancies. A lot of people. And I know people who are conceived as a result of rape, which is the point, even though that's less than 1% of abortions, that's the one they always go to because it seems like the hardest case for conservatives to defend. And I asked the young woman, I said, would you look someone in the eye 15 years later, 20 years old, and say, hey, it would be better? if you did not exist. It would be better if someone had murdered you. And now you're sitting here.
Starting point is 00:05:39 I used you hypothetically the other night in this debate. And now you're sitting right here. So I guess the question for someone who's pro-abortion, for the woman who has the unplanned pregnancy, who doesn't want the kid, is, okay, would you look Nevea in the face and say, hey, it'd be better. The world would be a lot better if you had been murdered.
Starting point is 00:05:55 Well, and it also, it insinuates that if a baby is unplanned, that determines their value, or that the circumstances determine their value, and that you are in some way going to hurt your mother. Your existence may have hurt your mother, held your mother back, when that's just not the case. And I recently did a Dr. Daff debate on abortion, and one of the ladies that was a pro-lifer,
Starting point is 00:06:19 she was conceived in sexual assault. Her mother was attacked. And she talks about how, once she found out about that, she felt so unworthy, and it kind of sent her life into a spiral. But then she decided she, decided she wanted to, you know, like, prove everyone, she was, proved to everyone she was worthy, and she got married, she had kids, and now her mother and her father were in a really tough situation.
Starting point is 00:06:43 They have a wonderful family. There's generations after, and their, you know, grandparents, and there's so much good that can come out of so much uncertainty. Of course. And you could see how someone discovering they were the product of rape would be, that could really damage them. And yet there is the flip side of that, which is, well, yeah, I was, I was conceived in this horrific circumstance that no one asked for, and yet my mother still chose life for me. You know, in some ways, I'm even more vigorously wanted and desired than a job born in other circumstances. You mentioned that you're 20 years old, which means you might have a perspective that I
Starting point is 00:07:19 would like some insight on, which is that Gen Z seems crazy in understandable ways, but a lot of the craziness seems to come down to sex. Yes. Like 30% of Gen Z identify as LGBT LMNOP, and you do see a little rise in a touch of misogyny, say, on the right-wing side of the young right. And then a lot of the Gen Z women are defending, like, out of the womb infanticide in the Lindsay Clancy case, women really of all ages. So it seems like everyone, but especially younger people, have gone sexually insane. Is that accurate? I think so. I was just talking. about this actually because we always knew there was this gender divide on the left. You know, the men, they're a little, a little effeminate, and then the women don't respect them, and the women became man-haters, and they were shaming men into feeling like they were victims, and then we have the male loneliness epidemic. But the right was supposed to be, you know, very passionate about biblical marriage and strong relationships. But now I think we see a lot of that on the right, too, because women are being told that there's no
Starting point is 00:08:32 no longer any biblically masculine men. And I think women, we've become victims too on the right, just like the ones on the left when they were saying that men are the problem. And I think the men as well look at things like the Lindsay Clancy case. And the majority of women are not on Lindsay Clancy's side. And that's a very important distinction. But when you live on social media as a Gen Zier, it really looks like they are. And so I think they look at that and they go, women have lost it. Women have gone nuts. They're pro-Lindsay. They're all completely pro-abortion up to nine months. Well, this is what I can't tell. I mean, so yes, I like to think that most women are not on Lindsay Clancy's side. And yet, when you looked outside the courtroom, it wasn't just
Starting point is 00:09:21 three or four lunatics standing in solidarity with Lindsay. It was like hundreds of women with their kids, standing, doing little hearts for poor Lindsay. And then you look at the jury. The jury was nine women, two men, and all the women, and then the one little more probably on the beta side that you were alluding to earlier, man, they all wanted to let her off the hook. It was just that one Haitian gigajad, very devout Catholic apparently, who said, no, I'm voting guilty. Absolute boss, by the way. Absolute boss. I saw the other jurors he was talking to when I was like, oh my goodness, get the man a cigar,
Starting point is 00:10:00 one of Michael's very nice cigars, and a drink. We need to get him a box and eight hours. Absolutely. And so I look at that then and I say, well, hold on. It wasn't just like a minority of women. All the women on the jury were on Clancy's side.
Starting point is 00:10:15 Yeah. And so is your suggestion then that it, the problem's bad, but it's actually social media is making it seem worse than it is? I think so. I think also the minority is just very loud. And even if the majority of women have lost it or the majority of men were no longer biblically masculine,
Starting point is 00:10:33 there's still so much hope for you to find a good spouse and to have that nuclear American family and that American dream. And I think on the right, we're starting to discourage the youth so much. You're never going to be able to buy a house. You're never going to find a good biblical spouse. You're never going to have that nuclear family and achieve that American dream. And I think it's turning Gen Z on the left and the right just into very discouraged and cynical victims almost. Yeah. And that's extended a lot into the right very recently.
Starting point is 00:11:04 And stories like this just perpetuate that even further. And even me as a, like, I'm a Christian conservative young woman. I look at that and I go, women have lost their minds. Yeah, yeah, of course. It terrifies me. Because you almost can't blame the chuds on the right because they're just reacting to something. You know, and in a battle, your opponent's, have a say. I do wonder, especially since we're focusing on the pro-life issue and how it spreads
Starting point is 00:11:30 out everywhere, I wonder if all of these problems really do come down to sex and maybe even specifically abortion. I'm reminded of Mother Teresa's speech at the United Nations in which she said that abortion is the greatest threat to peace in the world. Because if a mother can kill her own kid, there's nothing that people cannot do. More moral ground. Yes. And even there's racial tension and ethnic, geographic, national tension, but sex is so much more at the center of human nature than race or nationality or ethnicity or what have you. So I do wonder if it's just if Mother Teresa was right
Starting point is 00:12:08 and if it's all a kind of sexual craziness that comes all the way down to the bond between a mother and a child. There's a lot more to say first. They go to preborn.com slash knolls, K-N-W-L-E-S. Here's some good news. Through the ministry of pre-born, more than 50,000 babies have been saved this year alone,
Starting point is 00:12:22 and more than 5,100 people have made commitments to Christ. Those are extraordinary numbers. And the reason this ministry works is simple. Here is Dan Stein or the president of Preborn. Because of you, he says, we can invite mothers considering abortion into a Preborn Network clinic to meet their baby. And when she has that close encounter of the best kind in her womb, she is 80% more likely to choose life. That is the moment you can help provide for another mother. Across the country, preborn network clinics are putting the gospel into action,
Starting point is 00:12:48 meeting women in incredibly difficult circumstances with compassion, practical support, and a free ultrasound that allows a mother to see her child. Now, Preborn wants to help rescue 50,000 more babies. You can be part of that. Just $28 sponsors an ultrasound and can help save a baby's life. To give, I'll pound 250, say the keyword baby. That is pound 250 keyword baby, or you can donate securely at preborn.com slash Knowles, K-N-W-L-E-S. that is preborn.com slash Knowles, K-N-O-W-L-E-S, all gifts are tax deductible.
Starting point is 00:13:21 I think so. I think that we've worked so hard to create this, like, almost this desensitize women to even the idea of motherhood. But it really, really boils down to we don't value children at all. And I think we don't value the weight of a human life. And I think that comes from a lot of just the secular influence, because if you don't believe that there's a creator, if you don't believe that everyone's been created with the unique and special purpose and is known and loved by God, everyone's kind of disposable. Yeah. It's just not that big of a deal. And until we know them and we assume they now have a personhood, we don't assign any moral value to them or worth to them. Yeah. Pagan society is disposed of children all the time and sacrificed them.
Starting point is 00:14:09 Sometimes explicitly, abortion is more of an implicit sacrifice to the false gods of career and money and all the rest. And as we become less Christian, we've sacrificed more babies. Now it's to the tune of over a million a year. And now it's, we apply that same logic of, well, what's the mother going through that makes it morally justified to kill the unborn? We applied that same logic to even things like Lindsay Clancy. I think that's totally, that's a total pro-life issue.
Starting point is 00:14:36 Because though they're going, I feel bad for those kids. yes, they are victims, it was horrible what happened. She needs to be found not guilty, and she was justified because of other people's actions in the situation and how she felt and what she was going through. And in doing that, I know they don't think they are, but in doing that, you've completely minimized what's happened to those children. And we've turned the whole discussion into a postpartum discussion. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:03 And I don't know why. I don't know why everyone who has postpartum feels like saying Lindsay Clancy's guilty is a personal attack on them because it's not. It's not about postpartum. It's about what Lindsay Clancy did to her children. And so I think we've... But look, if we've accepted abortion on the left's terms, then
Starting point is 00:15:21 what the left is arguing is that the feelings and desires of the woman always trump any rights of the supposed child up until the moment of birth, and it's really... Including after birth, even before the Lindsay Clancy case, you had the Virginia governor Ralph Northam saying that if a baby was born, survived an
Starting point is 00:15:37 abortion, and the mother still didn't want him. they'd have a discussion and determine if the mother wanted to kill the baby or let the baby live. So that's an actual example of fourth trimester abortion, as we call it. So in that world, if you have legal abortion and you have the left exalting it, of course you're going to take Lindsay Clancy's side. Whether she was insane clinically or not, if she desired to kill the kids because their existence was affecting her emotions, her passions, her sense of self, then of course she would be justified.
Starting point is 00:16:06 The logic is basically inexorable, it seems to me. And I think that's a really scary thing because how far are you going to take this? Because when we first started having this big debate about abortion, it was, well, just in these circumstances, just these exceptions for rape and incest. And then it became, well, just up to six weeks. And then it became Roe v. Wade. And then it became nine months like we see in Michigan and what they're trying to do in my state right now, Idaho, with their very vague language of any health concern. Idaho. This is Idaho.
Starting point is 00:16:35 I know. It's a great state. You were just there. I was just there been there twice. I think I've set the record for most trips to Idaho with anybody in the last 10 years. Not many people go there. There's not much out there. No, no.
Starting point is 00:16:47 That's why we like it? But yes, to your point, if we permit killing a baby at six weeks, why not seven? You can't answer that. If we're going to permit killing a baby in Massachusetts, why not Idaho? Those are all the questions. So before I let you go, you might be the most well-adjusted 20-year-old I've ever met in my life, especially these days. So four groups we're talking about. The men on the right, the women on the right, the men on the left, such as they are, and the women on the left, four distinct groups with four distinct mania.
Starting point is 00:17:18 I'll put you on the spot. What would be your particular advice to each of those groups? Oh boy. For, okay, let's start with the ones on the right. For the men on the right, I don't want them to become so cynical to think that there's no good women anymore, that there's no biblical women who want to be good wives and who want to have kids and who aren't pro-choice and, you know, aren't going to attack your masculinity. I want them to know that there are many, many, really good and very outspoken Christian and conservative women. And we haven't gone nuts and we all are out there for Lindsay Clancy. At least one. At least one. At least me. And then for the women on the right, I don't want us to get so angry with what's being done. Because I mean, when you look at the stuff online, when I look at Lindsay Clancy, I got very upset.
Starting point is 00:18:12 Yeah. Extremely upset with my own gender. I was like, what are we doing? I don't want us to get so angry that we completely turn on each other and start infighting on the right. I want us to stay strong in our convictions, but also understand that, you know, we're not alone in that. This isn't just a fight. We have to fight. It's not us against everyone else. I love that your advice to the women is, calm down. You know, I find whenever I'm in a dispute with a woman, yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:39 Nothing improves this situation like telling the woman, hey, lady, calm down. That always, but I think that's very good advice. You saw the juror on the lady juror on the Clancy trial. She said, you know, we explained the, the case to that holdout juror time and time again. But he just, this is a verbatim quote, he just couldn't get over the fact that she viciously killed her children. And you can? Yeah, you know, guilty is charged. I can't get over that fact either. Okay, so that's your advice to the right. The men, if you will, on the left and the women on the left. The men on the left, you don't have to feel like you have to completely soften and escape your masculinity in order to pull a good woman. Good women aren't going to be completely threatened by your masculinity.
Starting point is 00:19:25 They're doing it. You think that they're being soyboys in order to impress the feminist women who they shouldn't want anyway. I think because I think in like if you're a leftist, you're in a circle where all the women are saying that if you do this and this and this, that's harmful and toxic. So I think they feel like they have to be that way. And for the women on the left, I have a lot to say to the women on the left, but I'm going to leave How much time do we have? I'm going to leave it at, listen to some women on the right, listen to mothers who have families and who know God.
Starting point is 00:20:02 And even if you are an atheist, leftist woman, I don't understand the complete separation from women who do choose to be mothers and wives because that's an incredibly one sacrificial, incredible and very powerful choice to make with your life. So we need to be listening to other women who are in those situations and who have things to teach us because, I mean, that can be a very beautiful thing. I'm very excited to do that one day and get married and have kids. And I know that even though I'm not in that situation right now, I like to listen to the women who are because they have very positive messages about motherhood and, you know, things that relate to women that we don't get everywhere else. Like when you look at the Lindsay Clancy thing and you look at the pro-choice side, they talk about how. It's enslavement and babies are parasites and how it's going to ruin your life.
Starting point is 00:20:52 So listen to people who are actually enjoying motherhood and aren't saying that you're just going to go down a postpartum. Even I'm very professionally ambitious and I focus on my work life a lot, you know, all the time. But there's no, there's no comparison. I've gotten to have a lot of cool work experiences. There is no comparison. Throwing a ball to my kid when he hits it with a bat is, I would say orders of magnitude more joyful. That's not even, that doesn't do it justice because it's, it's kind of categorically different.
Starting point is 00:21:20 And so I think you're right. I love that your advice to them is, hey, ladies on the left, be more like me. I agree. If you look at side by side, you look at a, I don't know, like an Ellen Page or something like that, and then you look like a Nevea Sousa on the one hand.
Starting point is 00:21:35 You just put the, who seems more balanced? Who seems like they have a better grasp on reality in life? Well, they have to look at my mom. My mom is five kids. She's much more matruper than I am. And look at all of the Sousas. Look at all the Lusas.
Starting point is 00:21:48 Two of whom wrote, Tiny Human, go get it right now, Navea. Wonderful to meet you in the crowd when you came up to ask a question in Idaho, and thank you for making the very long trek to Nashville. Thank you for having me on, even though I put you on the spot in Idaho. It was great. You said, you said, hey, Michael, my question is, can I come on your show? And the boldness with the ladylike gentility was just an irresistible combination and a good model for other women.
Starting point is 00:22:16 Thank you, Nevae. Thank you for being here. The midterms are not just one national race.
