I'm going to be talking about three ways to creating a better day. Today is very simple.
It is not rocket science. It is not something that's going to blow your mind. And as you hear
it, you're going to go, yeah, that makes sense. Shit. Yeah, I knew that. Oh yeah. Damn. I knew
that as well. But then the really, the question comes back to, are you actually doing
it? Sometimes we have to hear something a hundred times or 4,000 times before we actually do it.
So today I'm just going to talk about three ways to create a better day. And let me say this before
we dive in. We all want to feel good. We do. Like that, that's really what it comes down to.
I want to feel good and I want to feel good every day. And I would like to feel good as much of the
day as I possibly can. You know, we all want to feel good. We all want happiness. We all want
success. We all want love and joy and peace and money and travel. We want to do some cool shit,
all of that. But more than
anything else, I think we just want to feel good. Even if you don't have a million dollars in your
bank account and you haven't traveled the world, if you're sitting on your couch and just sitting
there and you feel good, like, hey, I don't need anything right now. That's an amazing moment.
And we all want more of those amazing moments. And we think that different things are going to make us feel good. We think
that money is going to make us feel good. We think that achieving things are going to make us feel
good. We think that sex is going to make us feel good, that alcohol is going to make us feel good.
And, you know, whatever it might be for you, we've all got our different flavor of trying to
find that thing that's going to make us feel good. But a lot of us go in search of those things that
are going to make us feel good. And we, we search for it and we try to get it. Then we get there
and we realize, damn it, I still don't feel good. And they usually don't make us feel good.
So the goal of my life, and I've been doing this for
about two years, I've been having to try to put myself and think this way and give myself this
perspective. The goal of my life is to try to be more and more like a dog every single day.
That's that simple, right? Dogs are just happy. They're just happy no matter what most of the
time, right? They love you no matter what. When I come home, it is the greatest moment of my dog's
life every single time. I just want to feel the way that my dog feels when I come home as much
as I possibly can. And I have come to realize by, you know, about to be 38 years
old that going in, in becoming a successful is not going to make me feel that way. Making money
is not going to feel that way. Uh, going out and, and having sex is not going to make me feel that
way. Doing drugs is not going to make me feel that way. Alcohol is not going to make me feel that way.
None of those things are going to give me that feeling as much as I possibly can. It might feel like for a moment,
like, oh my God, it's super success and happy. I hit the top of the mountain and now I'm happy,
right? But then the next day it drops again or an hour later it drops again. So like when I come
home and it is the greatest moment of my dog's life, I immediately go, yeah, I want more of that
in my life. I want to feel that way, right? So how can I be more like that? I know that the money
and the achievements and buying shit is not going to make me feel that way. So what will? Well,
that's what we're going to talk about today. Okay. The thing I want you to understand
is when we feel good, we come from a better place. When we feel good, we come from a better place.
When you feel good, you are a better person. And when you're a better person, you're a better
parent, you're a better employee, you're a better business owner, you're a better brother, sister,
mother, whatever it is that you might be. When you feel good, you are a better person. When you feel like shit, you are a worse person.
So shouldn't we all try to put feeling good and being in a place of peace and joy,
like at the driver's seat of the things that we want?
Like we can go and we can create a morning routine
and we can have 17 different boxes that have to have to check in order to get there.
Sure. And I've done it before where I'm like, Oh, I've heard that morning routines make me feel better. Let me put 47
different things that I have to do in my morning routine. And then I just feel like it's another
freaking checklist. And then my morning routine, I actually start to dread. And so for me, instead
of saying, Hey, I'm going to do 47 things in the morning in order to optimize my day. I've been
trying to simplify my life. I've been trying to go the whole route of less is more. And what I'm
going to teach you, as I said, is so simple. It's so simple, but are you doing it? We live in a
really fast paced world. That's go, go, go, go, go. You can't stay at breakneck speed forever.
And this right here, what I'm going to talk about today
is a step back for everyone, to step back.
You have to learn, if you haven't already,
that you have to prioritize yourself.
You do.
All of the stuff we're going to talk about today will lower your stress.
It's going to lower your anxiety.
And focusing on just little, tiny, incremental, small improvements
every single day will compound to massive shifts over time. This is really easy to do, which means that it's also really easy not to
do. And so each day, the three things, the three buckets that I have to fill before I go out and
try to do something in the world is I have to do something for my mind. I have to do something for
my body. I have to do something for my soul. Now, some of you are going, well, fuck, yeah, of course.
I knew that, right?
Like mind, body, soul.
Like I've heard about that.
That sounds like something that would be on a wall, you know, in some farmhouse.
And Pat, love your mind and body and soul.
Yeah, I get it.
But then the question is like, are you really waking up with the intention of doing something
for your mind and waking up the intention of doing something for your soul and waking
up the intention of doing something for your body every single day? Oh, probably not. So each day we
should be doing something preferably in the morning for our mind, our body, and our soul.
And that's it. Everything else in life seems to work its way out, right? Or it becomes easier to
deal with, especially for me when I have filled my cup first. You have to fill
your cup first so that you can pour into others throughout your day. So let's talk about it. Your
mind. What would it look like to fill your cup for your mind? I'm going to give you some examples,
but for you, what does it mean for you? What do you want to do? When you wake up in the morning,
if you want to, you could have 17 things that you need to do on your morning checklist and
your morning routine, or you could just have three. Something for my mind, something for my
body, something for my soul, right? So mind. You can read. You can journal. You can learn a new
language. You can learn a new word and use that multiple times a day, right? So for me, when I
wake up, I used to say, oh, I have to read. I have to journal. I have to meditate.
I have to do these things. No, it's like I'm trying to fill my bucket. Some days I wake up
and I'm like, you know what? I just really feel like reading. I feel like reading today. And then
some days I wake up and I'm like, I don't feel like reading today. And so guess what I don't do?
I don't freaking force myself to read. What do I do? I just decide, you know what? I'm going to
journal today. Or you know what? I'm going to learn a new language. Or I'm going to take 30 minutes and I'm going to work
on learning an instrument. Like I play guitar. So some days I'm like, you know what? I'm going
to do something for my mind. And I know that challenging my mind is done through learning
guitar scales. So I'll take a metronome and I'll try to learn a guitar scale and I'll go a little
bit faster. I'll go a little bit faster and I'll go a little bit faster. And I'll go a little bit faster.
Right?
If you play piano, you can learn some jazz chords.
You could challenge yourself just a little bit.
And just continue to keep challenging yourself.
It could be painting in the morning if you wanted to.
It could be doing a puzzle.
It could be Sudoku.
It could be practicing gratitude.
It could be finding different brain games.
Right? practicing gratitude. It could be finding different brain games, right? Really what it
comes down to is how can you, how can you have a list of things that you enjoy doing for your mind
or that are intriguing to you? Like maybe you're like, you know what? I really do want to learn a
new language, but I haven't put time into it. Maybe that's in the list. And maybe you wake up
tomorrow and you're like, I actually do want to learn a little bit more Spanish. So I'm going to
take 15 minutes and try to learn some Spanish. Cause when you're growing, you're either green and growing or brown and dying. And when you feel
like you're growing, you feel more excited. You feel better. And so I would recommend trying to
do something for your mind every single day. Make a list of all the things you could do for your
mind and then just choose in the morning based off of how you feel. Don't force yourself to do
any of these things. Okay. And one thing I'll give you too is like try
to stay away from some screens like I've consciously been removing screen time from my life
I like removing Instagram removing being on anything Reddit Facebook all of those
watching less TV watching being on my computer. The real world is not on the screen.
The real world is around you and you're missing it every moment that you're on screen. And so if
you want to do something better for your mind as well, be on your phone less, be on less screen
time. Okay. So that's the first thing is your mind. The second thing is your body, right? Your
body. I'm going to try to help you shift your mindset
around your body real quick. Okay. Start treating your body like it is someone else that you are in
charge of taking care of. Someone else that you're in charge of. Like if you have children
and you have a two-year-old, right? You are in charge of taking care of that child
and it is your duty and you
want to create the best human that you possibly can. Why don't you treat yourself the exact same
way? Treat your body the exact same way. If this is the task that you were given from the moment
you were born was to take care of this body, treat your body like someone else that you're
in charge of taking care of, right? If you have a dog, right? You want to take care of your dog.
You want to give your dog the best. And you know, like I said, like I treat my dog probably better than
any person I've ever met. I'm just going to be honest, right? And then you go, well, do I treat
myself as good as I treat my dog, right? Just treat your body the same way that you would if
you were in charge of taking care of somebody, right? Your body wants to move. And we are so
stagnant nowadays. Like your body wants to move. Your body was designed to move. You go back a hundred thousand
years, our ancestors weren't just sitting eight hours a day. And there's been a lot of studies
and I actually researched a few things. Researchers analyzed different, 13 different studies of people
that were sitting and their sitting time and their activity levels and all of that. And they found out that those who sat more than eight hours a day with no physical activity had a risk of dying
that was equivalent to those that had obesity or smoked every single day. So sitting, being
stagnant, not moving this body of yours, this physical body that you're in charge of taking
care of is the equivalent of basically smoking, is the equivalent to being obese. So give yourself 30
minutes of movement every day. And so you can say to yourself, oh, I have to work out. I have to
lift every single day and I have to, and you have to go force and force and force. You could just
say, you know what? I'm going to have a list of things. I could work out. I could do, you know,
primal movements, animal flow. I could do yoga. I could do stretching. I could do hiking. I could do, you know, primal movements, animal flow. I could do yoga. I could do stretching. I could do hiking. I could do 10,000 steps. I could walk two miles around my, you know,
my neighborhood with no phone. I could do 30 minutes of just like closing my eyes. One thing
I've been doing recently is I will, I'll put on my noise canceling headphones. I'll put on a 45
minute like meditation song and I'll just do deep intentional
movements. Like I just, it's like sometimes I'm like my body wants to move in weird ways and I'm
like, screw it. I'm just going to go in my garage and I'm just going to move my body and I just get
out all the little kinks that are there. Right. It could be breathing that you need to do and doing
breath work. Right. You know, there's so much stress nowadays. Breath work helps
so much. It could be meal prep for the day. So you don't get off track. It could be making sure that
you have a gallon of water so that you can stay hydrated. So many people are just so dehydrated.
And so it's not about forcing yourself to have to do certain things every single day. It's like
saying, Hey, I have a list of things I could do for my mind. Which one do I want to do today?
I have a list of things I want to do for my body. Which one do I feel like doing today? And then you have your
soul. And so what does it mean to you? Like the person that's inhabiting that body of yours,
you know, it might be meditation where you just meditate. It might be prayer for some of you.
It might be spending time in nature, like just going out and being in nature. It might be sitting in silence with no plan.
Like yesterday, I had a gap of about 20 minutes in between calls and it was a beautiful day
outside.
And I was like, you know what?
I'm going to go sit outside in the grass with my dog.
And I just sat outside in the grass, just doing nothing for 20 minutes.
You know how rare that has been for me over my life of just like,
just some relaxation. It could be sitting down and having some gratitude. It could be
reading a spiritual book and then journaling on it. It could be listening to spiritual guides
or spiritual leaders, whatever it feels right for you. And so it's like, have a list of all
these things you could do and then just see what feels right when you wake up in the morning and don't force yourself to do any of them.
And so you just pick from your list of all of these things that I could do for my mind, all of these things I could do for my body, all these things I could do for my soul.
And then I wake up in the morning and I see what I feel like doing.
You know, I'm about to be 38, like I said, and I have made a lot of my life really hard thinking that I need
to do a million fucking things a day. And I have to do this and I have to force myself and I have
to struggle my way to success. And I have to do all of these things and I have to make sure I get
it done. And if I don't get it done, then I shame myself or guilt myself. Really what it comes down
to is how can I do less, but get more from everything
that I do? How can I do less? It comes down to how can I set myself up for success? And really
what I think it comes down to is how can I fill my cup first? You know, for me, I have people
around me that I have, that I take care of. I have employees that work for me. I have, you know,
a wife and I have things going on in my life. And if I want to show up better to all of them,
if I want to be a better son, if I want to be a better husband, everything, if I want to be a
better business owner, I need to fill my cup first. I need to do something for my mind, my body,
my soul. And I need to do it from a place of, I don't need to do anything. Let me take need out
of it. But I want to do something that fills my cup every single day that makes me feel better,
that is enjoyable. And I don't makes me feel better, that is enjoyable,
and I don't have to feel like I have to force myself to get 17 things done, 17 different things
done within 90 minutes or else I'm a complete failure in the morning and my morning routine
sucked, right? So some of you guys out there are parents. Yes, it is very important for you to be
a parent. It's the most important job you'll ever have, but you have to fill your cup first.
It will make you a better parent.
So many of you are trying to pour from an empty cup
and you can do it for a while.
You really can, but it's going to catch up to you at some point.
You will burn out.
It's not that you're, when you burn out,
it's not that you're doing too much.
It's that you're doing too little of what actually fills you up.
Think about that for a second.
When you burn out, it's not that you're doing too much in your living place. It's that you're doing too little
of the things that actually fill you up. And once again, as I said, all of this,
it's not rocket science. It's really not. But if it is so easy to do, and if it is so easy to do,
it is also very easy not to do. And so it requires you to decide to be intentional,
to say, you know what? I am going to
wake up just a little bit earlier and I am going to work on myself. I am going to be the person
who does this. I know that when I fill my cup up, I'm going to be a better person. I'm going to be
a better parent. And that is really important to me. And so it's about being intentional,
which is just one of the things that a lot of people are really lacking nowadays.
Intentionality. Be more intentional about what fills you up.
And I promise you, you will have a much better day every single day.
