Welcome to today's episode of the Mindset Mentor Podcast. I'm your host, Rob Dial. And if you have
not yet done so, hit that subscribe button so that you never miss another podcast episode.
And if you love this podcast, please do me a real quick favor. Take 30 seconds out of your day,
go to iTunes or Apple Podcasts, give us a rating and review. That way more people can find this organically because iTunes and Apple Podcasts will then spike the algorithm whenever you guys
give us great ratings and reviews. And then more people can find us because they see this as a
popular show. So if you would do that for me, I would appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.
Today, we're going to talk about the six habits to make you more productive. Here's the thing that
I've come to realize. Life is very simple.
Success is very simple. We make it really, really hard. Like if we want to break it down in its simplest form, I said this about a month ago on a podcast episode, is you either get what you want
in life or you don't. There is no in between. It's black or white. There's no gray area in
between. You either get the life that you want or you don't get the life that you want. And what that comes down to is you either taking action or not taking action.
That's it. It's that simple. If you take action towards the future that you want,
you're eventually going to get the future that you want. If you don't take action because you're
too worried about your thinking or your fears or limiting beliefs or other people's opinions or
possibly being rejected, well, then you're not going to get the life that you want.
And so let's talk about how to be more productive so that therefore when we are taking
action, we're taking the most efficient action towards the future that we want. Let's dive into
it. So the first habit that will make you more productive is to get moving. One of the things
you guys have heard me say before in the podcast is action creates action. Inaction creates inaction. So when
people are sitting in there and they're like, I'm just not taking action towards the future that I
want. Here's the thing. We all know what we need to do to be successful. Like, you know, pretty
much 90, 95% of the actions that you need to take to create the life that you want. You know, the
problem is we're just not taking the action a lot of times. And so it's not that we don't know it, it's that we're not taking it. And it's really hard to get moving if we're not
currently moving. And as Tony Robbins says, progress equals happiness. So as you start to
move, you start to see progress, you start to get more motivated to continue to keep having that
progress. And so when I say get moving is the first action that you need to take, I mean that
you need to get your physical body up and actually start moving. This could be going for a run. This could be
pushups. This could be, you know, jumping jacks, or this could literally be just getting up and
walking around the house and getting your physical body moving. Usually when we don't feel like doing
something that we know we're supposed to be doing, it's usually because our physical body is actually
not moving. And our brain will usually follow the movements and the motions of our body. And so if
we're laying down, yeah, our brain's not going to want to get up and actually start doing something.
But if we can get ourselves up, force ourself past that moment of resistance and actually get our
body moving, it actually becomes a little bit easier. And what happens is just like if you're going to go push a car, it's really hard to just physically start pushing a car
that's not moving. That's the hardest part is getting it from zero to one mile an hour to two
miles an hour. But once a car is moving, if you've ever seen someone push a car, once it's moving,
the momentum makes it so much easier to keep moving. And so if you're trying to take more
action towards the future that you want if you're trying to take more action
towards the future that you want, you've got to force yourself literally just to start moving.
That's how you start being more productive. You have to have a get shit done attitude.
You know, don't ever say to yourself, you don't have enough time. If it's important to you,
you'll figure it out, figure it out, get it done. That's all you have to do. And, you know,
a lot of times what we'd like to do is we like to make up excuses
as to why we're not able to get to being productive or to getting that action done.
I see so many people, and it drives me crazy, that blame their children and the fact that their
children exist on the fact that they're not successful, they don't have the life they want,
they don't have the money that they want, or they don't have the time to be able to create the life, whatever it is that they're
doing. And in reality, it's just a scapegoat. Your children are there. Your children shouldn't
be a reason why you're not succeeding. Your children should be the reason why you succeed.
They should be the thing that makes you want to get up and continue to keep moving.
And so when I say get moving, how can you create an environment that is conducive to taking action,
not conducive to not
taking action? We have really comfortable couches inside of our houses, right? If you normally find
yourself not taking action by laying on the couch and scrolling through Instagram, well, how can you
take your couch cushions and put them away so that you're not laying on a couch that has comfortable
cushions? You're not going to want to lay on your couch without cushions. If you're normally wasting
time with Netflix when you really should be building the business that you want or taking
action towards, you know, going to school to get the degree that you want, take the fucking TV
off of the wall. Like it's, if that's what you're normally wasting time with, how can you look
around you and say, what around me in my environment is keeping me from taking action and being
productive and then remove everything. I mean, literally take all of the seats in your house and just put them outside.
And then you go, oh, well, I've got to stand up and get some stuff done. I've got to get some
movement in my body. So the first thing is to actually notice when you are not doing what you
need to do, and then just force yourself to that movement of action. And then what happens is once
you start moving, your brain starts moving with your body as your body's been moving. And then what happens
is it makes it easier to continue that momentum. The hardest part is that resistance point where
you are not taking the action that you need to. And now you need to, and you start thinking about
taking action and the resistance comes from the thinking about it versus I should just get up and
doing it. So that's number one. Number two, another thing to help you be more productive is to learn when you can. Think about everything
that you do on a daily basis and think about how much is either quiet space or think about how much
is filled with talking with people or think about how much is filled with music or, you know, could
be right now, like podcasting. You're just listening to this podcast.
How can you learn as much as possible?
And I mean, when you're traveling,
when you're going on a walk, when you're going for a car ride,
when you're in the shower,
when you're brushing your teeth,
when you're driving your car,
how can you learn as much as possible?
There's so many moments in our days
where we could learn and that learning will
help us be more productive. Here's something that's really interesting that I found about
learning is when I find something, for me personally, this might be the same for you,
it might not, but I find it's this way for a lot of people. When I find that I learned something
that I think is really amazing, it actually gives me energy to start working towards that thing
or to start working towards something.
And so what I want you to do is I want you to figure out ways that you can learn more,
whether it's listening to this podcast, listening to another podcast, listening to somebody
on YouTube, maybe listening to an audio book.
How can you learn as much as possible in your moments when you're doing something?
And one of the things that I do is if you come into my house, I'm almost always learning throughout the entire day,
something I'll put on a podcast. One of the things that I love is, you know, YouTube now has amazing
videos on there. We put a ton of videos on YouTube. We're making really long videos,
like hour to four hour long videos on my YouTube. But there's other people also that make, you know, three hour Kobe
Bryant motivational ones, or, you know, you can see Elon Musk motivational stuff, or you can see
Michael Jordan motivational stuff. And you can listen to people who have succeeded at a very
high level all day long. And for me, that just motivates me when I'm like, man, listening to
Kobe Bryant, listening to Michael Jordan, talk about their mindset and how they view the world and how they're going to outwork
everybody and how greatness is not something that you're born with.
Greatness is something that you have to build in yourself.
I'm like, hell yeah.
And it makes me want to work harder.
And so what I would recommend is continuously all day long, just be listening to something
that you can learn from, that you can literally learn from and
motivate you to get better. You can put on motivational speakers. You can listen to ET
the Preacher. You can listen to a bunch of different people that are motivating, that
inspire you to want to be better. I'll put David Goggins on and listen to David Goggins for two
hours. And then I want to run through a fricking wall when I get done listening to him. So how can
you learn as much as possible whenever you can so that therefore you can become better
and be motivated by it?
So that is number two.
That is habit number two to make you more productive.

promo code mindset. That's N-U-T-R-A-F-O-L.com promo code mindset for hair
that's as strong as you are. Habit number three. If you've been listening to me for a while,
you know that this is my favorite technique to getting shit done. And that is the Pomodoro
technique, which means work for 25 minutes on only one task and one task only, and then take
five minutes off. When you work for these 25
minutes, literally there is nothing else in this entire world that you can do. Unless your house
catches on fire, you do not move from your seat. You don't do anything else. You don't respond to
somebody in a text message. What I always do is I take my phone, I leave it inside of the kitchen,
and then I go inside of my office. I put my headphones in, I get some tea, and I crank out
work for 25 minutes on, five minutes off, 25 minutes on, five minutes off, 25 minutes on, five minutes off.
That's an hour and a half of dedicated work to get stuff done. And so really what you have to
realize is it's not that you don't have enough time. It's not that we don't have enough time
in the day, majority of the time. What it really comes down to is that we're, let's be honest,
we're just kind of shitty at managing our time a lot of times. So if you can really go, you know what, I'm going to take some time and I'm actually just going to crank out one
thing and one thing only. What would that do for your productivity? Think about if you could get
two to three to four hours of hardcore work done every single day, not eight hours, just three,
four hours of hardcore work done on just one task for 25 minutes, five minutes off,
and you can switch or continue on what you're doing when you come back and work again.
But think about what would happen if you got that productive, not going from like,
oh, I'm working on something. Oh, look, I got an email. Oh, I got a text message. Oh,
somebody sent me a message on Instagram. Oh, somebody liked my photo that I just put up.
It's just hardcore work into one thing and one thing only. How much more productive would you be?
it's just hardcore work into one thing and one thing only. How much more productive would you be?
So that is number three, the Pomodoro Technique. I use it all of the time. I promise you,
this is literally how I get stuff done. It has been absolutely life-changing for me.
So when I say use the Pomodoro Technique, if you've heard me say it before in podcast episodes and you actually haven't used it, do it. Literally force yourself to do it. I've had so
many people message me on Instagram and they say, Rob, that's how I communicate with my followers
the most is on Instagram. And they're like, Rob, I finally use a Pomodoro technique. I've been using
it for the past week. I've gotten more done in the past week than I have in my entire life.
And I promise you, there's a whole lot of research behind it, but just use a Pomodoro technique,
which is one task, only one task, one task only for 25 minutes on five minutes off. That is one cycle. Do as many
cycles as you can. I promise you it'll help you out. So that's number three is use a Pomodoro
technique. Number four, super important. You are not me. I am not you. And you are not anybody else
that's listening to this podcast. All of us have different energy throughout the day.
All of our bodies are different.
All of us have different makeup, DNA, everything that we possibly have.
And I say that every single person needs to take note of when their energy is really high
and when their energy is really low.
And you need to figure out when your best time is to get stuff done.
low and you need to figure out when your best time is to get stuff done. For me, my entire day is planned out based off of how I know I'm going to feel throughout the day. For me, I know that
about six, seven o'clock, like I work so hard until about six or seven o'clock that after that time,
I'm kind of like brain dead. I'm like, I can't do anymore. I've had times where I'm like, I need to,
you know, I'll have like on my schedule, I
miss something and I have to record something at like eight o'clock at night.
I'm like, I'm just going to push it till tomorrow because my brain is just not going to be in
the zone.
And so when I say energy planning, what I mean is take note of how your energy is throughout
the entire day.
Start to see if you notice any patterns.
Maybe you have, I have some people that I've coached over years.
They have so much energy at five o'clock in the morning. I'm not that guy. I'm not, I'm just
really not. I've always wanted to be that guy. I thought it may not be so great to wake up at
five o'clock in the morning to get a bunch of stuff done. I am a useless human before 8am.
And so what I do is when I wake up around six o'clock, six, seven, eight, six to eight is my
time to be with myself, to be with
my girlfriend, to do my morning routine, to hang out with my dogs, to go outside and meditate and
get some sun on my skin. From six to eight is my time to do what needs to be done because I know
my brain just isn't working at that time. If you're one of those people that has a ton of energy and
you're really able to crank through anything in the morning, I'm jealous. But take
note of that and start to realize when your energy is the best and when it's the worst and when it's
okay. After about eight o'clock is when usually I'll start to go into a little bit of light work
for me and not anything that's super hardcore work, but usually I'll have another cup of coffee
or Yerba Mate at that point in time. And what I'll do is I'll get some stuff done.
I'll get some light work done.
And then usually that usually goes up until 10 a.m.
Usually that's my creativity time where I start to think about, all right, where's my
business going?
What am I working through?
What do we have coming down the line?
How can I make sure that I create better stuff, create better podcasts for you guys?
Is there a way that we can create better podcast videos on YouTube? Because we're putting up videos three to four times a week on YouTube
and we're starting to put out, we went from literally doing like 20 minute episodes like
this to now we have videos, like I said earlier, that are an hour long up to four hours long on my
YouTube so that people can literally listen to it all day long if they want to. And so I get these
ideas from usually from eight until 10 o'clock and then from
10 o'clock until from 10 AM to 1 PM is usually for me when I have the most energy, like that's
when I have the most energy. So my most important work happens from 10 AM to 1 PM. If it's a good
day, maybe it'll go to about two to 30 if I've got a whole lot of energy. So 10 to one, 10 to two,
two 30 ish is my time that I usually get
the most done. But usually 10 to one is, is my time where I do my Palme d'Or techniques and I
crank out my most important tasks for the day from one to four is usually, you know, I would say from
10 to one is like planning and scripting and creating podcast ideas and all that type of
stuff. One to four is recording, coaching, and creating all of that stuff. It's a lot easier for me to create and record a podcast or record a video or do something that
needs to be recorded from about one to four, because I use a lot of my brain power to really
make the best content that I can from 10 to one, right? So it's like 10 to one,
planning, scripting from 1 to 4, recording,
coaching, creating all that. And then from 4 to 6 is anything that I need to clean up.
And then I know after about 6 or 7 o'clock, and sometimes I work till 7, 8 o'clock because I just
have something that's really, I'm busy and I got to get it done. But usually at that point in time,
after about 6, I usually turn off and go get dinner. My girlfriend, we hang out because I
want to enjoy my life and not just make my entire
life work.
So tip number four is to plan your energy out and know when your energy is going to
have a spike and a dip and then make your day off of that.
Tip number five goes along with what I was saying with energy planning, which if you
notice, number five is to have a cutoff time.
If you notice, I usually have a cutoff time.
It's usually when my girlfriend stops working, I stop working, we both work from home and have a cutoff time. If you notice, I usually have a cutoff time. It's usually when my girlfriend stops working, I stop working, we both work from home,
and have a cutoff time. People work better when you know you have a deadline and you know you
have to be done by a certain time. You work better when you have a little bit of a fire
under your butt of, I got to get this done because I have to stop at six. So have a cutoff time.
One of the things that I see with a lot of entrepreneurs is they don't have a cutoff time. And I've done this before, not having a cutoff time. And they
just, I just worked till, you know, 11 midnight, 1am sometimes. There's no, there is no way I would
go back to that life. And actually it is counterproductive to be able to do something
like that because you're, you're being consumed by it. And one of the things that just like a
muscle, if you're working out a muscle really hard, it needs time to rest so that it can be stronger next time you use it. Same thing
with your brain and getting stuff done. When you're working really hard, you need time to rest
and your brain needs to turn off. It's actually called, well, besides the sleep, Dr. Andrew
Huberman calls it non-sleep deep rest, which is your brain in order to go through neuroplasticity
and to actually change, you need to go through non-sleep deep rest, which is a resting where you're not doing stuff,
where you're not learning stuff. You could just be sitting there. You could be looking out at the
view or whatever it is that you, wherever you might live and actually just enjoy your life
away from working. So therefore, when you get back into your work, hey, now you can be more
productive because you're on it again. So if you know, if you want to work from eight to six,
nine to six, whatever it is, make sure that you have a cutoff time. You have a start time,
you have a cutoff time. That is going to help you be so much more productive.
And then tip number six is to plan out and prepare the night before. So, you know, at about six
o'clock, whenever you start, let's say six o'clock is the time you get done, take 15 minutes at the end of the day.
So it could be from 545 to six o'clock, or it could be from six to 615 and prepare the
night before for what tomorrow is looking like.
You look at your do-do list, see what you got done, what you didn't get done, and you
look back and look forward.
You look at how this day went and how today went, and then you look forward to what tomorrow
looks like, what you got, what you might need to move. That's not as important
anymore because of the fact that you didn't get something that you need to get done today done.
And you need to make sure that you prioritize what's most important. And then when you wake
up in the morning and you look at your schedule, make sure that you visualize your day. And so
prepare the night before, move some things around if they
need to move, get a schedule, like actually get a paper schedule. I promise you that helps a ton.
And then visualize how you want your day to be every single morning. So that's part of what I
do during my creativity time is I'll look at my schedule and I'll say, okay, I've got a call at
this time. I've got a Zoom call with my business breakthrough group from this time to this time.
I want to talk about this with them. And what I'll do is I'll take five minutes. And I learned this from a
friend of mine who runs a super successful company. Take five minutes each day after
looking at your schedule and just visualize what your day's going to look like if everything just
went perfectly. And therefore what's actually exciting is you become excited about going into
your day because you already saw it going perfectly and how amazing it's going to be versus looking at it of like, oh my God,
I got so much shit I got to get done today. You go into it with the feeling of, you know what,
this is going to be fun because I've already seen what a perfect day looks like today.
And I've already seen how productive I can be, how much impact I can make, how much money I can make,
whatever it is. And you look at it and you go into your day with more excitement versus like, oh my God, I've got so much stuff to do. So those are the six tips
that I have for you to be more productive. Number one, get moving, get some momentum on your side.
Number two, learn as much as you can, whenever you can. Number three, use the Pomodoro technique.
Number four, plan out your energy throughout the day. Number five, make sure you have a cutoff
time. And number six, make sure that you're preparing the night before.
So that's what I got for you for today's episode.
