Today, we're going to talk about the six steps to hit any goal that you set for yourself. Now, I can't take credit for this. This is actually from my favorite book ever, which is by Napoleon Hill. It's called Think and Grow Rich. But I have been using this six-step process for literally 15 years now.
Starting point is 00:00:51 And it is so simple. It's so easy to understand. It's so profound if you use it. But the problem is it's so simple that it's very easy not to use. It's almost like you can overlook it. And so we're going to go through these six different steps. And if you follow these and use this every single day, I promise you making your goals a reality will be so much easier.
Starting point is 00:01:16 So step number one is to fixate your mind on exactly what it is that you want. Fixate your mind on exactly what it is that you want. What does this mean exactly? You have to become very, very, very clear on exactly what it is that you want. One of the biggest things that I see that holds people back, and I've coached tens of thousands of people over the past 15 years, that one of the things that holds them back the most is that they kind of know what they want, but they're not 100% sure on exactly what it is that they want. And I talk about this.
Starting point is 00:01:39 I do this episode or something very similar to it almost every single year for the past six years because it is so ridiculously important for people to hear this. But a lot of people know, oh, I want to be successful. I want to be happy. I want to have a nice house. I want to have a loving family. But they're not extremely clear on what that looks like. The more clear that you become, the easier it is to get there. The easier it is to visualize it, the easier it is to go out and actually get what you need in your life to make those dreams a reality. I always use the example all of the time. I've been using it for years and years and years. If I were to line you and the number one archer in the world up and you guys were to shoot at a target, he's going to beat you
Starting point is 00:02:19 every single time. But if you were to blindfold him and spin him around and he would have no idea where the target is, you have a better chance of hitting it simply because you can see the target and he cannot see the target. When you're going for goals and you're not really clear on exactly what it is that you want, it's like trying to hit a target blindfolded. You can't see it. So how the hell do you think you're actually going to get it? So you've got to become very, very clear. A lot of people at the beginning of the year say, hey, I want to lose weight this year. Cool. Well, if you lose one pound, you hit your goal. But I'm going to bet that if you want to lose weight, you don't want to lose one pound, right? If people say, I want to make more money this year. Okay. If you
Starting point is 00:02:58 make one more dollar this year than you did last year, you made more money. You hit your goal. But nobody wants to make just one more dollar. So you've got to become very clear on exactly what it is. Instead of I want to lose weight this year, it's I want to lose 20 pounds and get to 185 pounds and I want to be at 7% body fat. All right, that's a lot more clear. Now I've got some numbers in there. I can actually look at this and it makes it a lot easier to hit these goals because instead of saying I want to lose weight, well, then when I hop on the scale and I'm at 199, I now know I'm 14 pounds away. Cool. When I'm at 197, I'm 12 pounds away. And I can see myself getting closer and closer and closer to these goals. So you've got to become extremely clear. I cannot say very enough when I say very
Starting point is 00:03:40 clear on what it is that you want. The more clear that you are, the more likely you are to get it. So that's step number one. Become extremely clear on exactly what it is that you want in your life. Step number two is decide what you're willing to give up in order to get there. That's pretty interesting for most people because they don't expect to have to give something up. But in order to get something that you've never had before, you're going to have to get rid of things that you've done before in the past. There's certain parts of you, there's certain habits and traits and actions that you take currently that you're going to have to give up. Just the way that it goes. So if you're saying, okay, let's go with the, I want to lose weight. Okay. Well then if you want to lose weight, I know that I want to be 185 pounds. I want to be 185 pounds. I'm going to give up candy. I'm going to give up soda. I'm going to give up alcohol for
Starting point is 00:04:33 the rest of the year. If I were to give up candy, soda, and alcohol for the rest of the year, do you think I'm probably going to lose some weight? Probably. Is there other things I could do in there? Cheeseburgers. I give up cheeseburgers, hot wings, barbecue, all of those. I could just go through a list of things that I intend to give up. And now I know that if I'm presented with ice cream, if I'm presented with candy, if I'm presented with a cheeseburger, that I simply say no, because it doesn't line up with the goal that I've set for myself. And I have told myself I'm going to give this up. It makes it much easier to give it up and to not go for it when I have told myself in order to hit my goal of 185, I'm not going to do it. So look at that. We've got a couple of things. We're very clear on exactly what it is that we want. Number one. And number two,
Starting point is 00:05:13 we're very clear on what we're going to give up in order to actually get to that goal. So step number three is to establish a definite date. Establish a definite date. Goals without a deadline are simply just dreams. Goals without a deadline are simply just dreams. So if I want to be 185 pounds, I'm not just going to say I want to be 185 pounds. I'm going to say I want to be 185 pounds by December 31st, 2021. Well, now I know the date that I have to hit that goal by. Makes it much more of a time constraint. I get much more motivated to get it done. It's like when you know that you're about to go on vacation, the week that you're about to go on vacation is your most productive week because you've got to get done
Starting point is 00:05:53 before that date. So now I know I'm going to be 185 pounds. I'm going to give up candy, soda, and alcohol for the rest of the year. And you know what? I'm going to do it by December 31st, 2021. Look at how much clearer we are. We're only three steps through right now. Don't you feel like you're much more clear on what it is that you want, when you're going to get it, and what you need to do to get there? Well, that's going to bring us to number four, is what we need to do. Now that we know what it is that we want, we know the date we want to hit it by, we know what we're going to give up, now we need to create a plan, a foolproof plan to get there. What do I need?
Starting point is 00:06:29 Now that I know that what I'm going to give up, I need to know what I'm going to do in order to achieve X. What do I need to do in order to achieve it? So now I'm going to come up with a plan. All right. So maybe what I do is I'm going to work out four times a week. Maybe I'm going to meal prep every single Sunday. I'm going to get rid of all of the stuff that has sugar inside of my house. I'm going to get rid
Starting point is 00:06:48 of the candy. I'm going to get rid of the sodas. I'm going to get rid of the ice cream. I'm going to get rid of all of the stuff inside of my house that don't line up with the goal that I want to set for myself. If you want to make your life easier, get rid of everything in your house that's in the way of your goals. If you want to lose weight, well, then don't allow stuff inside of the house that you can eat that won't help you lose weight. You have to think about it that way. If I'm like, all right, I don't want to lose weight, but I'm going to go ahead and have a drawer that's full of Skittles and all kinds of other candy. Well, it's going to be really hard because once you see those Skittles, your brain clicks on and goes, hey, I want to eat those Skittles. So you've got to come up with an absolute foolproof plan in order to hit this goal. So that's step number four.
Starting point is 00:07:30 Step number five is to take number one, two, three, and four and write out a clear and concise statement. So take one, two, three, and four, and you write out a clear and concise statement. and four, and you write out a clear and concise statement, three, four, five, six sentences maybe, this is basically going to be your motto for life, what you're doing, what you're creating over the next year or six months. This is something that you're going to read to yourself. It's your mission statement for the life that you're creating. Hey, let me tell you about my favorite drink that I take every single morning. Achieve public glory this summer with Manscaped. what you're going to give up, when you're going to hit it by, and exactly how you're going to do it. And that's what brings us to the next one, which is number six, which is read it out loud to yourself twice a day, at least every single morning. When you wake up to remind yourself, when you're subconscious, you're in theta state in your brain, when your subconscious is the easiest to manipulate is when you're first waking up in the morning. So you're going to wake up,
Starting point is 00:10:44 roll out of bed, brush your teeth, and on your mirror, you should have your mission statement right there. Read it to yourself out loud. Don't just brush your teeth and read in your head. Read it to yourself out loud. And then when you brush your teeth at night, guess what you're going to do? You're going to read it to yourself. Hopefully you're brushing your teeth at least twice a day. So in the morning when you brush your teeth, and what you're doing is you're actually taking it with something that you're already doing. So brushing your teeth in the morning, I got to read my mission statement. Brushing my teeth at night, I got to read my mission statement. When I brush my teeth, I read my mission statement. Now people always ask,
Starting point is 00:11:13 okay, well, I'm going to read it twice. Can I read it more? Hell yeah. You could read it every hour if you want to. If you really want to brainwash yourself as to how you're going to create the life that you want, whatever it is that you want, why don't you just set a reminder in your phone and it goes off every single hour to read your mission statement out loud to yourself. You're literally through repetition brainwashing yourself every single hour for what it is you're trying to create in your life. So those are the six steps. Let's see what this will look like if we were to put this together. So I've got some examples for you. So in the weight loss example, what it would be is I would say, I, Rob Dial, am going to lose 10 pounds, get to 7% body fat and weigh 185 pounds by December 31st, 2021. In order to do that,
Starting point is 00:11:59 I will give up candy, I will give up soda, and I will give up alcohol for the rest of this year. candy, I will give up soda, and I will give up alcohol for the rest of this year. How I'm going to do it, I'm going to work out four times a week, and I'm going to meal prep every single Sunday, every single meal that I need for the upcoming week. And I'm going to get rid of all of the food that's inside of my house that doesn't line up with me getting to my goal. Boom. That is a mission statement for what I'm trying to accomplish in my body, in my life. It has a plan. It has everything that I need in there. It has my goal. It has my plan, what I tend to give up and when I'm going to hit it by. If I were to read that every single day while I'm brushing my teeth in the morning and while I'm brushing my teeth at
Starting point is 00:12:39 night, I'm going to get pretty excited about it, aren't I? I'm going to remind myself. And here's a funny thing is that a lot of people set New Year's resolutions goals. I'm not to get pretty excited about it, aren't I? I'm going to remind myself. And here's the funny thing is that a lot of people set New Year's resolutions goals. I'm not against them. They're great. You can set New Year's resolutions goals. But then when you follow up with them the next December 31st, they don't even remember what their New Year's resolution goals were. It's not that they didn't want to hit them. It's that a lot of time, they just simply stop reminding themselves as to what their goal is and they forget about what their goal is. So they forget about what their goal is.
Starting point is 00:13:10 So simply reminding yourself every single day, multiple times a day, will keep it in the front of your mind, which will allow you to work towards it and not to let yourself off the hook. So let's give you another example. Let's say that you're in sales, and this year you want to make $250,000. You want to make a quarter of a million dollars this year. Great. Okay. Let's figure out how you need to do that. So I want to make $250,000 by December 31st, 2021. Let's say that's your goal. Okay. In order to do that, I will give up texting on my phone in social media while I'm at work. Because I know you guys are out there scrolling through Instagram while you're working. You're sending text messages to your friends, to your girlfriend, to your boyfriend, to your husband, spouse, your kids. What if you were to just not allow yourself to be on your
Starting point is 00:13:52 cell phone the entire time you're at work? You get into work and what do you do? It's time to actually... It's oddly enough, it's time to actually work when you get to work. You take your phone, you put it inside of your drawer, inside of your desk, and you're not allowed to get it out until you leave the office. Well, that would help you, wouldn't it? Okay. So I'm going to make $250,000 this year by December 31st, 2021. I'm going to give up texting and social media and my phone completely while I'm at work. And I'm going to stop having side conversations with my coworkers every 15 minutes and taking water breaks and hanging out by the water cooler and just having long conversations and taking 15 minutes here and 20 minutes there and 17 minutes there because I know what my goal is. And my goal is, I don't know
Starting point is 00:14:35 my goal, my plan to get there is I'm going to make 100 phone calls every single day, Monday through Friday. And I will follow up with all of my potential clients who haven't closed yet from 3 to 5 p.m. every single day. That alone now gives me a plan and exactly what it is, a target that I can see how I'm going to get there and how I'm going to hit it. So my goal is to make $250,000 this year. I'm going to do it by December 31st, 2021. I'm going to give up texting and social media and all of my phone. I'm going to lock my phone up every single day inside of my drawer. I'm going to stop talking with coworkers on the side, and I'm going to make 100 phone calls every single day, Monday through Friday. And then on Fridays from 3 to 5 p.m., I'm going to follow up with all
Starting point is 00:15:20 potential clients. Boom. We got a plan to make a quarter million dollars this year. All right. Let's use another example. There's a lot of anxiety that's happening right now. People have a lot of anxiety with all the stuff that's happening in the world. What if we just want to be more peaceful? Could we use this exact strategy to be more peaceful? The answer is yes. So I will no longer have anxiety by November 1st, 2021. So if you're a very anxious person, you could do this. I will no longer have anxiety by November 1st, 2021. So if you're a very anxious person, you could do this. I will no longer have anxiety by November 1st, 2021. That is my goal. That is what I'm going to do. In order to get there, I will give up all forms of caffeine because that makes me anxious. I will
Starting point is 00:15:55 give up all of the relationships that I have that bring me stress and anxiety. I will meditate every single morning for 10 minutes and I will use my gratitude for 10 minutes after my meditation every single morning. I will set reminders on my phone every single hour to take six deep conscious breaths every single hour to calm my body and get my nervous system out of sympathetic and get into parasympathetic to relax myself at least every single hour. And I will replace every single negative thought that I have with a positive thought. Holy shit. We just developed a strategy to get rid of anxiety by November 1st, 2021. Sounds a lot better, doesn't it? So let me say it one more time. I'll no longer be anxious by November 1st, 2021. I'm going to give a lot of forms of coffee
Starting point is 00:16:50 that make me anxious. I'm going to give up all of my relationship that make me stressful. I will meditate every morning for 10 minutes and I will go into my gratitude journal right after for 10 minutes to focus myself on gratitude. I will set reminders on my phone every single hour to take six deep conscious breaths and I will replace every single negative thought that I have with a positive thought when it pops into my head. Now, I've got a plan if I were to take all of these. I've got a plan to lose weight this year, 10 pounds. I've got a plan to make a quarter of a million dollars this year, and I've got a plan to get rid of all of my anxiety by November 1st. Simple. And then all I have to do is I have to remind myself of this at least twice a day in the morning and every single night, as soon as I wake up and right before I go to bed. And if I want to,
Starting point is 00:17:33 I can set a reminder every single hour in my phone to go off so that I have to walk outside and go on a walk for five minutes. And I have to say this to myself over and over and over and over and over again. What you're simply trying to do is remind yourself of your goals, have a plan to get there and brainwash yourself into actually believing it's possible. And guess what? After you do this for three, four, five, six, seven days, your mind actually starts to switch to, I don't think this is something that I could do. This is something that I am going to do. Like there's nothing that's going to hold me back. You start to literally realize that you're changing and rewiring your brain to get to the goals that you want to get yourself to. So that is the six steps to hit any
Starting point is 00:18:14 goal that you want to by Napoleon Hill in his amazing book called Think and Grow Rich.
