I will be going live and giving 45 minutes to an hour-long instructional Facebook lives on how to take your life to the next level.
I'm going to be talking about your paradigm, your mindset, your patterns, your habits, the world that you have created,
and how to reverse anything that you want to reverse,
and how to reinforce all of the things that you want to reinforce. So if you want to go ahead and
sign up for that for free, it literally costs you zero dollars. Take action right now, pull out your
phone, and let's go for it. Go to coachwithrob.com and enter in there. So today what I'm going to be talking about is challenging yourself.
So I noticed for myself that I don't spend much time on social media or any of those things,
but I realized that I spend more time on it than I want to. And so I made a challenge myself for
the past couple of days. And today I'm recording this now late at night and
I have not been on my phone to go to social media at all. And I will tell you this, I run a business
that runs through social media. So I more than anybody else need to be on it. So if your company
does not exist solely through social media, then you can do this as well.
And the reason why I did this was because a few days ago, I woke up and normally as soon as I wake up, I chug a glass of water, 16 ounces of water, and then I go straight
to meditation within about five minutes of waking up.
And what happened was I accidentally hit the Facebook app on my phone when I was putting
on my meditation audio. And
what happened was my Facebook popped up and something popped up on my Facebook and I saw it
for a brief second. And what happened was the next 45 minutes when I was meditating,
I could not, and I mean, could not turn my brain off. And I was like, what the hell is going on?
Why can I not stop thinking about
this? Why can I? And it wasn't even anything bad. It was just something that, that I could not get
to leave my mind. And I thought to myself, and I've always thought this, I re I usually try to
keep my phone off as long as I possibly can before I have to turn it on the morning. I thought to
myself that one little glimpse of looking at something on my Facebook ruined the beginning of
my morning, ruined my meditation, and somehow made me feel a little bit more anxious throughout the
day. And after not going through, not being on Facebook that much and not being on it at all
today, I can 100% tell you this. I am a more anxious person when I have social media accessible to me,
right? There's been multiple times that I picked up my phone and been like, oh yeah, that's right.
I can't go on social media today. And it was just a reaction just to pull out my phone and go to it
and pull out my phone and go to and pull out my phone and go to it. And I wanted to make this
challenge myself. And the reason why I'm bringing it up is because I want you to challenge yourself
to do this too, to be more present, to not allow yourself to be sucked into this phone, this all, you know,
this information that we can get a massive download of information, this dopamine hit
whenever we want to, because we're addicted, you know, and I don't see myself as someone who's
always on the phone or always on social media, but we are all addicted and we need to, if you don't think you're addicted, try to go an entire day without your phone or try
to go an entire day without social media. And you start to realize that it is built into what you do.
And the reason why I wanted to try this was because number one, I wanted to work on being
more present, right? I think that's something we should all work on is being more present, being more in the moment with people. And the other reason why is because they said that I was
reading an article not too long ago. They said in the 1980s that the average person had a attention
span of about 23 minutes, right? The average person today in 2018 has an attention span of about eight
today in 2018 has an attention span of about eight seconds, eight seconds. So we're from 23 minutes to eight seconds. That's a pretty drastic change. And what that means is that our technology is
ruling over us. It's not something that we rule over, right? It has become a little legitimate
addiction. So I know some of you are out there and you're like, well, I don't feel like I'm addicted to my phone.
Give it a shot.
See how you do.
See if maybe you are.
For those of you guys, the majority of you are probably listening out there and you're like, yeah, he's probably right.
I probably should take a little bit of a break.
Here's what I noticed.
I noticed that when I did not look at my phone and I didn't have my phone to go to,
number one, I was a lot happier throughout the entire day in the past couple of days. And number two was this, my creative brain,
which usually only I feel quote unquote works in the morning. That's what I've said. If you've
heard me say before, like my creative, I am my most creative in the morning, which is still true.
But usually I don't look at my phone in the morning. Usually I try to stay as long as possible until like 10, 11, 12 o'clock before I finally
look at my phone.
So now that I did not look at my phone for the entire day, I actually noticed that my
creative brain stayed on longer and I was more creative throughout my day.
And so here's the thing that I want you to realize.
You listen to this podcast because you want motivation, because you want mindset, because
you want to make yourself better. I personally think that if we're not using
our phones correctly, if we're allowing ourselves to be sucked into our phones and into social media,
we are not ruling our minds. Our minds are ruling us. And so I think the first step to an addiction
is to admit that you have a problem, right? If you are in this situation,
and once again, like I said, I'm not a person who I feel like I'm on my phone all the time.
I'll still admit I have a problem, right? When I get bored or I just have, like if I hop in my
elevator, we live on the seventh floor. Those seven floors, I usually pull out my phone and
just look at something really quick, right? Are we so mentally weak that we can't sit alone quietly for 15 seconds?
Something to think about. And for me, I'm a person who honestly can meditate for an hour and I'm okay
with it. But for me to get into an elevator for 15 seconds and not be able to not look at my phone,
that seems pretty pathetic if you ask me. And that's me talking about myself.
So if you're listening to me and this strikes a chord with you, I want to, I want to challenge
you and I want you to take this from this episode. Why don't you just take one day of no social
media, right? And what you'll notice is a little bit of changes. Like notice the changes in your
body. Notice what's going on. Notice if you happen to pull out your phone, just kind of like a reaction whenever things get
quiet or whenever there's people not around. And I went to one of my friend's birthday party
today and I wasn't on my phone at all. And I noticed, man, a lot of these people just keep
popping up their phones and for no reason, just to kind of keep themselves busy. I'm in the business
of wanting to rule my mind and not have my mind rule me. If you feel the same way, take this challenge.
And I'm interested to hear about this challenge.
So if you take this challenge and don't look at your phone for a day or two days or three
days, whatever it might be, send me an email.
Let me know.
I would love to.
I would honestly love to do this.
And this is just off the top of my head.
I would love for you to email me rob at mwfmotivation.com and let me know the differences
you noticed when you're not on your phone. I would love to read that email out and let people know
on the podcast what others have been saying about it and some of the things that you've noticed
because it's kind of like a let's use ourself as test subjects. Let's go an entire day of not being
on our phone. Not you know, you can be on your phone. Let's just take social media out of it.
Like make it let's make it as easy as possible. No social media for an entire day of not being on our phone. You can be on your phone. Let's just take social media out of it. Let's make it as easy as possible. No social media for an entire day.
And if you're someone who's normally on your phone a lot, no social media for an entire day,
and then send me an email, rob at mwfmotivation.com in a couple of days after you've tried it,
and let me know the differences you notice, because we should be ruling our minds,
not them ruling us. So if you liked this episode, if you have a friend that is addicted to social media
or addicted to their phone
or they're constantly comparing themselves
with the Instagram models or whatever it might be,
send this to them.
Because I think that is something we all need to work on
is being further away from our phones
so that we can be more connected
with the people that are in front of us.
So please send this to them.
Once again, for those of you guys that want to join,
which I hope is all of you listening to my voice right now that want to join in on the free five day challenge, go to
coachwithrob.com. I would love, love, love to see you in that free challenge. It is much more, the

will be much, much more in depth, 45 minutes to an hour long, going super in depth on your habits
in your schedules, in your goal
setting, in your mindset, all of those things. Because my job is to take your year, and if it's
