Welcome to today's episode of the Mindset Mentor podcast. I'm your host, Rob Dylann.
If you have not yet done so, hit that subscribe button so that you never miss another podcast
episode. And if you're out there and you love this podcast, please do me a favor. However
you listen to us, take out your phone, go to that platform and give us a rating review.
The reason why is because the more positive ratings and reviews that we get, the more
that those platforms organically show it to people who have never heard of this podcast
before and the more this message grows.
So if you think more people should hear this, if you give us a rating review, they will
naturally start to show it to more people, which allows us to grow.
I would greatly, greatly appreciate it if you would do that.
Today, we're going to talk about why I believe right now you should be working harder on yourself than you ever have
in your entire life. There's a lot of changes that are happening in the world right now.
There's a lot of changes that have been happening in the past couple of years,
and into the next year, two years, there's going to be a lot more changes as well.
And you should be adapting and changing as much as possible right now. Or in my opinion, this is just my opinion, you will be left behind.
You will wake up one day and be like, damn, it's too late. I should have been working on myself.
I should have been learning. I should have been growing mentally, physically, emotionally,
spiritually, all of that stuff. And I have a feeling, you know, based off of the look of
the economy and the way that everything is going, you have about 12 to 18 months to really, really hone
in, focus and work on yourself. Because if you look at, you know, 2020, 2020 was crazy, right?
If you look at 2021, 2021 was pretty crazy. And if you look at 2022, 2022 seems like it's going to
be pretty crazy as well. And it looks like that's going to continue,
especially with all of the stuff that's happening in the world, the civil unrest,
the pandemics, we're trying to come back from that. You look at the recession that's probably most likely like 99% going to be happening in the next 12 to 18 months. All of this stuff
is outside of you. All of these things are, majority of them are outside of your control.
And so when something is outside of your control, what is the best thing to do? The best thing to
do is to work on what you can control, which is yourself. You know, if you're wanting and you're
waiting for it to go back to the way it was before, you're probably going to be waiting
forever. There's a pretty good chance that life will never go back to the way that it was before.
Things are going to be constantly moving and shifting. And I don't say
this to try to scare anybody because I definitely am not doom and gloom. I actually think that this
is an exciting time of change where things that have been needed to change for years and years
are starting to change. And, you know, I think that with you and where you are in every person,
we have an opportunity to step up, to become the best version of ourself, to help the world change for better, but then also be able to set ourselves up
really well for the rest of our lives as well.
So if you continue to wait, like if you're just waiting on the sidelines and thinking
to yourself, well, I'm just going to hold out for another year.
Just see what happens.
See how this kind of plays out.
I think that you're going to be too late.
I think that you're going to look back in here and be like, damn it, I should have done
something when I had the chance. And so all of the changes are
not necessarily a bad thing. I think that they're going to end up being a good thing eventually.
Whatever they end up being, whatever happens with, you know, all of the changes, I think that
everything eventually will settle into the way that it should be. And, you know, it will be okay
at some point in time. But, you know, there's a lot of stuff that's messed up in our society and maybe some changes better. Some stuff needs to go back to the way
it was. Some things need to change. But really all of those things, majority of stuff, like I can't
help what happens to other people. I can't help what happens majority of the time in the government.
I can't help what happens in society. What I can help is what I do with myself and how I show up to the
world. And right now is not the time to just be sitting back. Right now is a time to adapt so that
you're not left behind. And this is your time to try to think differently than you ever have before
and to double down on that thing that is different. What do I mean by that? Like,
let's say, for instance, that, you know, you took the typical route. You decided to go to college, you got a job,
and you took the typical rat race route that most people are taught that we should go,
right? I've been through that route as well. And you're sitting at the point where you're like,
you know what? I don't really want to do this anymore. I want to start my own business doing
X, Y, Z, whatever that
is. And you're sitting back, you're like, but maybe I'll wait like a year. Maybe I'll wait a
couple of years and see what happens. I have a feeling that right now is the most perfect time
for you to get really knowledgeable, really skilled at this thing that you want to get better,
whatever that thing might be. You know, maybe you're like, you know what? I really am into
woodworking. I'm decent at it.
And you know, I built some tables for some friends. I've done this. Well, maybe it might be a really good time right now to invest into your education. And maybe if there's a, I don't
know if there is or not, a woodworking mastery course of someone who makes incredible tables and
live oak tables and all of this type of stuff, maybe they have a course.
Maybe that course is like $3,000 or $4,000. But you know that if you were to invest into that course, you would learn another way to be able to make money, which would then in turn help you be
able to leave this company that you don't want to be working at currently right now. Well, in my
mind, right now is the best time to do that, is to be able to get all of the knowledge that you
possibly can, to build yourself up as much as you possibly can so that if shit hits the fan, if a recession
happens, if these things happen, if the dollar continues to go down, if inflation doesn't change,
all of those things, you're going to be set no matter what. You're going to have a protection
mechanism where you're like, you know what, even if I lose my job, I can still go ahead and make
money in this woodworking because I took
this course a year ago and I've been building my skills the entire time. Versus maybe you lose your
job and you're like, you know what? Now I should get into woodworking because now it's an emergency.
That might be too late. And so that's what I mean by try to look ahead and think to yourself like,
what could possibly happen next 12 to 18 months so that I can set myself up?
So the good thing about that is that if you invest into yourself now into that woodworking
course or into your skill or into just getting better at it or maybe finding a mentor in
that, then if things do go south, you are able to still protect yourself, still able
to put food on the table, still able to pay your bills no matter what happens.
So this is your time to think differently. That's what I mean by thinking differently, doing something different
than the way that we were taught when we were younger. Like a great example of change is
college. College is a great example of change. I don't believe that the system of college,
at least the way that it is right now, is going to be able to sustain the next 5, 10, 20 years.
that it is right now is going to be able to sustain the next 5, 10, 20 years. It doesn't make sense for you to go into debt that you can't pay off to get an education to try to pay off that
debt, right? And so I think that years ago it used to be like, hey, college was the way. College was
the thing that you had to do. But college used to be necessary for financial success. It used to be.
But when you look at some of the
biggest companies in the entire world, like Apple, and you look at Google, and you look at Netflix,
and you look at Tesla, all of them don't require a college degree. But the average college is $20,000
a year. Imagine if instead of somebody, this is what I'm going to do with my kids, if they want
to go to college, they can. But I'm going to ask them, hey, like, what is it that you want to learn
at? What is it that you want to get better at? What is it that you want to learn? And instead
of actually paying a college that's years and years and years behind, what if I were to invest
into that child's knowledge around that one thing they want to do, right? So maybe there's conferences
around that thing that they want to do. Maybe they can go get mentors in that one thing that
they want to do. You know, I get mentors in that one thing that they want to
do. You know, I would much rather look at it that way, where instead of paying money into college,
I'd rather pay it for them to go to conferences, to meet people, to find mentors, to see other
ways to make money, whatever it might be. And, you know, if you're young and you're listening to this,
becoming an intern for someone that you want to mentor you could be the best use of your time.
And whether they pay you, whether they don't pay you, I would work for free. If I went back to being 18 years old, I would find the one person I want to mentor. I would reach out to them and be
like, hey, I will work for you for free. I don't care. I will clean the toilets. As long as I can
be around you, learn from you, and figure out how you got to where you are. Hey, I don't drink much
anymore, but when I do drink alcohol, I don't bounce back the way that I used to when I was younger. So a lot of times I'd be the only person in the group that's not
drinking or I'd end up just skipping friends' plans altogether. If you feel the same way,
one thing that can help you is Z-Biotics. Z-Biotics is a pre-alcohol probiotic. It's
the world's first genetically engineered probiotic. And it was invented by a PhD
scientist to tackle rough mornings after drinking. Here's how it works.
When you drink, alcohol gets converted into a toxic byproduct in the gut.
And it's this byproduct, not dehydration, that's to blame for your rough next day.
Z-biotics produces an enzyme to break down the byproduct.
And it's designed to work like your liver, but in your gut, where you need it the most.
All you got to do is just remember to drink Z-biotics before drinking alcohol.
Drink responsibly. And then get a good night's sleep so you can feel great tomorrow.
The first time that I tried Z-Biotics, I had some friends in town who I know wanted to go out and
get some margaritas. So I took one right before and actually woke up and felt amazing the next
day. So if you want to give Z-Biotics a try for yourself, go to zbiotics.com slash mindset to get

So you can either go to school and you can learn from somebody who hasn't done, most
likely.
Like if you go to school for entrepreneurship and you're learning from a teacher, that teacher
is not an entrepreneur, they're a teacher.
So you're learning from someone who hasn't done that, or they're learning from a book
and they're teaching from a book, or you can go and actually learn specifically from somebody. I would rather, instead of going to a college and learning from a
teacher how to run a company when they've never run a company, I'd rather clean toilets and learn
from the person who's running the company there for free. Because at least that's free and college
is costing money. But what I'm saying though, and the reason why I'm bringing this up is because
that's an example of how I think things are going to start to shift. I think a lot of people are going to start learning how to make money online because there's a million ways to
make money online. You can sell your own course. You could be a coach. You could sell stuff on
Amazon. You could create stuff and sell it on Etsy. There's millions and millions and millions
of ways to make a million dollars online. And I think a lot of people are going to be shifting
to that way versus going the old traditional route. That's an example of something that is
antiquated that's going to be starting to change. And, you know, when people start an online
business, they can then travel more with their kids, they can have some more time with their
family, and they can build a business so that they're free. And so what I think is really
important right now is to know that into the future, we're not really sure
what's going to happen. And that's fine. I think with a lot of people that brings some anxiety
and stress because like, I want to know what the future holds. I want to know what the future is
all about. That's a control problem more than anything else versus being like, hey, we'll never
know what the future is, no matter how great the economy is, how terrible the economy is, all of
that stuff. We'll never know how it's going to be. And when you're stepping into a very uncertain future, the most important thing you can be
is certain in yourself. And that's why I'm always fully the person that believes you should always
invest into yourself. Some of the most successful people that I know spend more money on themselves
each year than they do anything else. They don't go out and they buy Ferraris and Lamborghinis and
all that stuff. No, they go find a way to spend money on themselves, their self-development, their learning, their growing, hiring a coach,
all of that stuff so that they can learn and grow themselves and become better.
It's funny, the most successful people I know don't really have the most lavish lifestyles,
but they take that money and they reinvest it into themselves. Why? Because they understand
that the future is always uncertain. It's always going to be moving and shifting.
And the one thing that they want more than anything else is to build certainty in themselves. You know, the future is very uncertain. Be certain in yourself. But what I would recommend
right now is don't wait until it's too late. If you wait another 12 to 18 months, it will
possibly be too late. You know, we will be at the point where you're like, you know what,
I wish I would have learned that one thing. I wish I would have're like, you know what? I wish I would have learned that one thing.
I wish I would have learned X, Y, Z.
I wish I would have, going back to what I said,
I wish I would have learned
how to grow a woodworking business
and actually work hard at something that I love doing
versus going to work for someone else.
And then, you know,
let's say somebody gets fired from that job.
Might as well just go for the thing that you love
while you have the money.
And you might have a little bit extra money right now.
It's easier to invest that money into yourself. If there was a woodworking business
course, it would be worth it to invest that three or four or $5,000, whatever it happens to be
versus somebody gets fired. And then they're like, oh my God, I want to take this woodworking course,
but I've also got to pay the bills. What am I going to do? I don't know if I can invest into
myself. And then you kind of get yourself stuck because I believe truly that almost everything is going to be going online. And so if we can learn how
to go online, how to be more digital, like I do see that everything's happening. Blockchain is
dropping. Bitcoin is dropping. All those things are dropping. I do believe that it's the future,
but if we're waiting for the world to go back to the way that it was, I don't think we're going to
be, I think we're gonna be waiting a really long time. And so then what you do is you learn how to prepare yourself and be that person, but also
learn what to do with your money when you get it. Educate yourself on what to do with your money,
how to invest your money, how to spend your money. And one of the biggest things I said a few minutes
ago is you should spend your money on self-education, not material possessions. It's wild
when I said a few episodes ago,
80% of American households did not buy a book last year. 80%, that means four out of five people
in the United States did not read a book last year. And so if we want to get ahead, if we want
to separate ourselves from the crowd, don't you think that self-education should be one of the
biggest things that we focus on?
Absolutely. And so you start thinking to yourself, how can I grow? Because if I read a book today,
I'm not going to be smarter than anybody else. If I read a book tomorrow, I'm not going to be smarter than anybody else. But if I read a book, read two, three, four, five, 10 books a year,
over the next 10 years, that's 100 books. And I start using and implementing those things.
Over time, that self-education sets you apart completely from the crowd.
And so you've got to really start to think about that.
And you really start to think about
how can I get ahead of the crowd?
The one thing that you don't want to do,
I'm 100% positive, going into the future,
you don't want to fit in.
You don't want to fit in.
You want to be different.
You're here.
You listen to this podcast because you want more.
You want to achieve.
You want to do something different. And so if you're listening to this, what I would recommend is preparing
yourself for the uncertain future because the future always is uncertain, but preparing yourself
right now and not waiting in the till it's too late. Once again, this is not doom or gloom,
any of that type of stuff. This is exciting, I think, of the amazing things that could be
happening, the opportunities that could be happening. Some of the biggest businesses are built during recessions, have been built during
recessions. So if we do happen to go into one, that's a big opportunity for many people.
And so I think that everything's starting to change. The way that we're starting to treat
people is changing. We're starting to understand that some people, you know, deserve better than
the way they'd be treated. We're starting to realize that a lot of bad happens behind the scenes and, you know, people are starting to work there,
are starting to realize that government's been doing bad things for years and people are starting
to wake up to this. And so I think just the way that it always has been is starting to move and
shift. I think that the internet, I think that social media, all of these things are helping
with it where people are able to communicate quicker and let each other know what's going on, what's not going on, wars that are happening, people that
are being held down that shouldn't be held down, all of this stuff. And so what I think the best
thing for anyone to do is right now is to be focused on how can I grow myself for the better?
Whatever it is that you want to grow it, whatever it is you want to get better at,
every single person listening to this podcast wants to get better at something.
Identify what that something is.
Identify where you need to improve.
Identify the places where you can become better
and then set yourself apart in this upcoming future,
this uncertain future,
so that you can know that no matter what happens,
all of the uncertainty,
at least you can be certain in yourself.
So that's what I got for you for today's episode. If you love this episode, please
