Welcome to today's episode. If you have not yet done so, hit that subscribe button so that you never miss another episode of the Mindset Mentor Podcast.
Today, we're going to talk about what people are doing to their bodies and possibly what you happen to be doing to your bodies with the things that you do, the things
that you don't do, the thoughts that you think. And what I want to bring to the front of your
mind, I guess you could say, is that most people are slowly committing suicide. And I've always
kind of thought of this because as you know, if you've listened to my podcast before, I am the son
of an alcoholic father who passed away when I was 15 years old. And I remember seeing my father drink every single
day and slowly, slowly, slowly, uh, over about six or seven years, slowly start to deteriorate.
And, uh, and I, and I'm going to talk about alcohol obviously, because that's part of it,
but I think there's a lot of other things besides just alcohol that people are not really
paying much attention to that are slowly killing them.
And people don't even, they tend to, you know, if say the real issue is over to the left,
they tend to look to the right so that they don't have to actually see the real issues.
And they keep themselves busy so that they don't actually pay attention to what's really
going on.
I think this is part of the problem
why so many people are so addicted to their phones
and so they're so addicted to not being bored
is because when they get bored,
they start to really,
the quiet parts of their mind start to speak up
and say, hey, hey, you should probably
stop doing this thing.
So, you know, for me personally,
I can explain this in a bunch of different ways because I've said
this over years and years and years.
There's things that are slowly killing people.
And I want you as I'm going through this to think, does this connect with me?
Is there certain things that I might be killing myself slowly, slowly committing suicide and
not even realize it?
And I don't mean to offend if you know somebody who's committed
suicide. I know people who have committed suicide, but I say those words very purposefully.
And the reason why is because I want you to realize you're not just slowly killing yourself.
You're slowly committing suicide. You're consciously making decisions if you are one
of these people. And I want you to really think about it and say, is what I want to continue doing is this the life that I want to lead or is it
time for me to start making some changes and so what do I mean by slowly
committing suicide let's talk about food for instance some of the food that
people eat if you're not eating food that's healthy for you you're slowly
committing suicide with every single bite that you take you are you're slowly
slowly slowly killing
yourself. I always say that if, if somebody had one hamburger and, you know, keeled over and died
of a heart attack, people would never have hamburgers anymore, but people don't die from
one hamburger. They buy from a bunch of little teeny tiny hamburgers or large hamburgers over
years and years and years and years and years. It's little teeny tiny decisions that they don't pay attention to that build up. There's a really
good book called The Compound Effect. And they talk about how success and you can become successful
with just a bunch of little teeny tiny decisions. Well, that's the same thing is that you also
become unsuccessful or you become overweight or you become a drug addict or you become an alcoholic or you become, you know, slowly depressed sometimes with little teeny tiny decisions that
you're not really paying attention to. Food is one of those. Nobody dies from eating a hamburger.
No one has a heart attack from eating a hamburger. It's a lot of hamburgers and little teeny tiny
decisions and extra cheese on top of their tacos
400 times over the next 30 years.
That's what slowly kills somebody.
And so think about that.
Really think about the fact that if you have kids
or if you have a family or a spouse
or people that you love around you,
are you really thinking about them and their wellbeing
of what would happen if you weren't around?
Are you really starting to think of those types of things? So food is something that's in there
that people don't really pay attention to. They know 99% of people know that they should pay
attention to their food, but they turn a blind eye because as Joe Rogan says, they care more
about temporary mouth pleasure than they do about their health. Temporary mouth pleasure just means
the taste of food. That's what it means, right? So food is one thing. Another thing to consider
is alcohol, okay? We all know, if you're listening to this, you're an intelligent person. You know
alcohol isn't good for you. Now, there's no judgment in me saying these things. I'm just
trying to bring your awareness to it so you know. But you know alcohol is not good for you. Alcohol is basically flavored poison. That's really what it is because if you have 20, you know, if you have,
you know, let's say you have one margarita. Okay, you have one margarita, you had a margarita. But
if you have 20 margaritas, you could possibly have alcohol poisoning and you could possibly
die from it. That shows you that what you're actually drinking is flavored poison. So nobody dies from having one margarita, but people die from having drinks and drinks and
drinks and drinks and drinks. And if you were to think of the average American and all of the
drinks that they drink in their life added up and what that would look like in the stress and strain
that is that that's putting on your body, it's insane. Now, I don't really drink
anymore, but believe me, I have done my freaking fair share of drinking. I used to be the craziest
at every single party. I was that guy, not that guy anymore. And so I can't point fingers to
anybody, but it just was an awareness that came into me at one point in time. And I was like,
this just doesn't serve me anymore. And I don't have any reason to do it. Right. I still have margaritas, but I
actually prefer, believe it or not, virgin margaritas. If you ever were to go out with me,
you'd see me order a virgin margarita or you see me, you know, usually it's virgin margaritas
because that's what I like. You know, I love margaritas, but I'm like, ah, does it really
taste that much better with alcohol in it? It doesn't taste pretty much exactly the same.
does it really taste that much better with alcohol in it? It doesn't taste pretty much exactly the same. And so what is, what is, what is the true reason why you're diving into this food? Why
you're diving into this alcohol? Let's talk about other things that people aren't really aware of as
well. It's not just food. It's not just alcohol. How about worry? Oh, Oh no. Some of you guys just
went, Oh shit. You just, you just moved around your seat a little bit, right? Cause you're like,
Oh no, I thought he was going to talk about food. I'm really good
with my food. I have a great diet. I thought he was going to talk about alcohol. I don't really
drink that much alcohol. Oh, oh yeah. Oh no. I actually do worry a lot, right? Worry is worry,
stress, anxiety. Those three things cause extra cortisol to be released inside of your body, extra cortisol
and extra adrenaline.
And do you know that those things slowly kill people and help with heart disease?
Let me say, they don't help with heart disease.
They are a piece of heart disease.
Extra cortisol running through your blood, extra stress, extra adrenaline running through your blood that never gets released.
It's just sitting there. The thoughts that you think, if you're not very diligent,
are also killing you. The things that you worry about are killing you. You know, I sent a text
message out to, I have the text messaging group where I send out motivational text messages,
which you guys probably heard me talk about in past episodes. And in these motivational, the text message I sent,
I sent one out today and it was about worry. And I listened to the song almost every single morning,
don't worry, be happy. Cause I like to brainwash myself into thinking a certain way. And one of
the lines that he says, he says, in you, in, in every life you have some trouble, but when you
worry, you make it double.
Things are going to happen in life.
Pain is going to happen.
Trouble is going to happen.
All of these things are going to happen.
But when you worry about things, you're actually doubling up the stress.
You're doubling up the anxiety.
It doesn't do anything for you.
And so you really have to take a step back and say to yourself, am I worrying too much?
If I worry too much, what do I need to do to stop worrying?
Because worry has never done. You've never gone, man, I'm so glad that I worried all day long because it really helped me out. It's never gotten you further along. So you have food,
you have alcohol, you have worry, you have stress, you have anxiety. I got another idea.
How about lack of working out? How about lack of movement? Even
just sitting in your chair for too long. Like they say that, you know, sitting is the new cancer
where it's just the lack of movement because our bodies are made to move and everybody,
because we're working, you know, I'm sitting down right now in front of a computer. I do sit down
in front of a computer all day long and I have to remind myself to move. I wake up and I do
movements and I do,
you know, what they call primal movements where it's on the floor, kind of like bear crawls and
movements that are pretty awkward looking and some weird ones as well. Uh, and then I forced
myself to do movements throughout the day because your spine will start to lock up. Your hips will
start to lock up. I actually had two surgeons six years ago, tell me that I needed surgery on both
my hips because they were so bad and they were so
deteriorated. And I was like, I'm not having surgery. I'm going to figure out a way to build
it back up. Right? So everything starts to lock up your knees, lock up your ankles, lock up your
hips, lock up your spine locks up. When all of those things lock up your shoulders, lock up.
It's slowly killing you. So if you're not paying attention to the movement that you're not doing,
or if you're not paying attention to the lack that you're not doing, or if you're
not paying attention to the lack of working out, so your body isn't put under stress, then you're
not really paying attention to the fact that you're not taking care of your body as much as you could.
And knowing that you could take care of your body and not is slowly killing yourself. Let's talk
about what up until recently was my number one issue.
My number one issue for addiction work, right? Some people have food addictions. They binge eat,
they overeat. Some people have alcohol or drug addictions. Some people have sex addictions,
mine work, working too much and just being in it all of the time. You have to realize that there's
no one animal. And I'll talk about this on the, You have to realize that there's no one animal,
and I'll talk about this on later episodes, but there's no one animal that is go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go all day long like a human. What we do is completely unnatural. We'll go figure why
so many people have, you know, they have stress issues and anxiety issues and depression and suicide and, you know, um, chronic issues
inside of their body and cancers and heart disease, because we're working so hard for
something that a lot of times we don't even really care about, but maybe just a thing called money,
just paper that we're literally putting our body through stress all day long.
One thing that you, that I always say is that if you look at nature, and like I said, I'm gonna have another podcast episode about this
in the future, but if you look at everything in nature, nothing runs around and is constantly go,
go, go, go, go like a human. There is no other animal that is go, go, go, go, go, you know,
There is no other animal that is go, go, go, go, go, you know, seven days a week, 16 hours a day for years and years and years and years and years. No wonder why people deteriorate so quickly
sometimes. Like you see people and I'm not going to name anybody, but there's some influencers out
there where you've seen that, that talk about hustling and they talk about grinding and they
talk about go, go, go, go, go. And they've been doing it for five, six, seven years. And if you look at videos of them five or six, seven
years ago, compared to videos of them now, you're like, holy crap, they have aged. Like they look
like they've aged 10 years, 15 years in the past five years. Why? Because that puts stress and
strain on the body. The body is not meant to do that. The body's not meant to go all the time.
The body's also not meant to not be moving, you know, at least a little bit throughout the body. The body is not meant to do that. The body's not meant to go all the time. The body's also not meant to not be moving, you know, at least a little bit throughout the day. The body's
not meant to be stressed and put under stress and anxiety and to have worry all the time. The body
is not meant to drink alcohol. The body's not meant to eat greasy, cheesy, fatty foods that sit
inside of your stomach and start to clog up your arteries.
And so I want you to start to think about that every single little teeny tiny decision that you
make is actually having a compound effect over years and years and years and years and years.
Once again, nobody dies of a heart attack and kills over after eating their first hamburger.
It doesn't happen that way. It's a bunch of little teeny tiny decisions, those extra fries. And you have those extra fries. If you think about how
many times somebody can have extra fries over the course of their life, hundreds of times,
it's like five, six, seven, 800 extra fries over the course of a lifetime. And then you think about
someone that goes, I was going to get a salad, but I'm going to get a burger. And that could
happen a couple of hundred times over the course of a lifetime. You're planning on having no drinks and you go out and have two drinks and you do
that. And that's hundreds more and hundreds more. And it just adds up and up and up and up and up
and up and up. And I remember I was, um, I was reading a book not too long ago and it was called
something like extreme budget, um, extreme early retirement. Something I think is, I think that's
actually what the name of the book was. And I don't remember anything else in the book, but the
one thing I remember the most is he said when his life really
changes, when he thought about everything that he had bought in his lifetime that he doesn't use
anymore. So like, like for instance, I'm looking at on my desk, I have two cameras here because
obviously I shoot a lot of videos for Facebook and Instagram and you know, we make viral videos
with them. I've bought cameras and cameras and cameras and cameras and cameras because I have
to constantly keep upgrading. But if I think about how many cameras I've bought
over the course of the, you know, since I first started getting into video production and
when I was 19 years old, so now the past 15 years, and I think about how many I'll have
over the course of my lifetime for upgrading, upgrading, upgrading. And I think about how many
things in my life I've upgraded or gotten new ones and new ones and new ones over the course of my lifetime. And you think about everything that you've bought in your
lifetime. And if you were to just pile it into a field, how massive that field would be, right?
You don't think about it when you go out and just buy one thing. But if you were to look at
everything that you've bought over the course of an 85 year lifetime, you'd be like,
oh my God, there is so much waste in here. So many things that I didn't need.
Now, just imagine if you were to take all of the hamburgers, all of the cheese, all of the greasy food, all of the fried chicken, all of the chicken wings, the barbecue wings, the steaks,
all of those things, everything you've ever eaten. On top of that, you take not only all of the food that you've eaten that's been bad for your body,
but you take all the alcohol and you pour all that in there. And you think about then the lack
of movement that you have and then the stress and anxiety. And you were to just somehow visually see
all of it on a field, you'd be like, oh my God, how does this incredible body that I have deal with all of this
crap that I put it through? And I think that number one, it'll make you realize how incredible
your body actually is and all of the crap that you actually put it through. And we all put them
through, not just you, but everybody, myself included. And I'm trying to reverse that with
every action that I take.
But the number two, you'd go, not only am I putting all this stress in my body, but these are all just little teeny tiny decisions that I never even thought of. So the next time that
you're out to eat and they say, Hey, do you want a salad or do you want fries? You might go,
you know what? I'll have the salad on the side instead of getting the fries.
Because it's just the little teeny, it's the little tiny decisions that make you successful,
but it's also the little teeny tiny decisions that could possibly be your demise.
So most people are slowly committing suicide with their decisions.
We all are in some sort of way, but we can start to
unprogram ourselves if we start paying more attention to taking care of our minds and to
taking care of our bodies. I want you to live a long time. I know you want to live a long time.
Think about your little teeny tiny decisions. So that's what I got for you for today's episode.
