Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to today's episode of the Mindset Mentor Podcast. I'm your host Rob Dial and if you have not yet done so, hit that subscribe button so that you never ever miss another episode. Today I'm going to be doing a quick episode talking about an experience that I had while I was hiking last week. And I was out hiking last week and it was a pretty hot day. I'm in Sedona. We've been in Sedona now for six weeks. We're probably going to be here for another month or so because obviously of everything that's happening. So we're staying longer to stay away from other people. We're trying to stay away from other people as much as we can. We're quarantining because I think it's at this point in time, the responsible thing to do,
Starting point is 00:00:43 whether you have it or not, it's up to you. It's your decision what you want to do, what you don't want to do. I just know for me, I don't want it on my conscious that I could have possibly gotten someone sick if I had it and didn't know it. So, but anyways, I was out on a hike and I was out there with my girlfriend and we were going on this hike where we're walking, right? And we get up to the top of this place that we wanted to get to. And there's this beautiful scenery, this outlook. And we're like, let's just lay down and let's just hang out for a while. And, you know, what I noticed was, you know, the sun was on me. It was really hot. And then these clouds would pass over and it would get really cold and windy. And then the sun would
Starting point is 00:01:20 come back out and it'd be really hot. And then the clouds would go over again, it'd be really windy and it'd be cold. And I was like, man, I wish it would just stay hot. Like I wish that I didn't have to go put my jacket on, take my jacket off, put my jacket on, take my jacket off. And I was sitting there thinking, and I was in a meditation and I was like, man, this is kind of similar to the coronavirus where, you know, the coronavirus, I promise you this, and I've been saying it almost every single episode, it's not going to knock out mankind completely. We're not going to disappear. We will survive. You know, we will exist after this. I don't know if it's going to take a month or two months or three months or six months, but what I do know is it will eventually pass
Starting point is 00:01:56 just the same way that those clouds that I didn't want to cover the sun and didn't want the cold air to blow on me would pass as well. Now, they didn't pass when I wanted them to. They passed whenever they passed. And I had to go, okay, I'm going to go ahead and let go of things that I cannot control. And I can't control the sun. I can't control the clouds.
Starting point is 00:02:19 I can't control the wind. As much as humans wish that we could control everything, we control almost nothing. If there's one thing that I do know, being a coach, being someone who creates content, puts it online, I see myself as a creator more than anything else. I'm not in control of what the coronavirus does. The only thing that I can control is myself and then also the message that I put out there to try to help you guys get through this in the best that you possibly can. So with that being said, if I can't go out and cure the coronavirus, then what do I
Starting point is 00:02:45 need to do? I need to act like it's a passing cloud and I need to go, okay, it's here for this moment. It will eventually be gone, but I don't want to suffer in the time that it is here because there's nothing I can do about it. And I can't, you know, I always say the phrase and everybody hears me say it. And I always see people quote me on Instagram after, and it is your amount of stress and anxiety and sadness and all of those negative emotions, your stress and anxiety will be directly correlated to the amount of the, the amount that you are resisting the way that the world is. It exists. The coronavirus is here. There's nothing we can do about it right now. But we can, the only thing that we really can control is how we react to it, what we think
Starting point is 00:03:33 about it, how we influence the circle of people that are around us. You know, are we trying to be positive? We're trying to bring them up or are we, you know, perpetuating fear? Are we making them scared of everything that's going on? Are we watching too much news and then calling up somebody that we're friends with and telling them all of the stuff that we just saw? It's a passing cloud. It will pass. And in that passing cloud, yes, some terrible things are going to happen that we just wish didn't happen, but there's nothing that I can do about it. That's what I do know. I can focus on putting out the best message and trying to help you guys and myself
Starting point is 00:04:07 and my immediate circle as much as I possibly can and try to talk to my friends and try to talk to my family members and try to bring them into a positive space. Yes, I can control that, but I can't control how long coronavirus is here. It's here. There's nothing that I can do about it.
Starting point is 00:04:24 So I might as well accept. It's here. There's nothing that I can do about it. So I might as well accept that it's here and try to be happy in the time that I am here and not get myself into a suffering state and go, you know what? I don't want it to be this way, but are there beautiful things that I can find in every single day? Absolutely. Can I wake up every single day and ask myself what I'm grateful for? Absolutely. Can I focus on those beautiful things? Yes. Because here's the thing. One of my mentors, Hal Elrod, who wrote the incredible book, The Miracle Morning, when
Starting point is 00:04:54 I was younger, way before he ever wrote the book called The Miracle Morning, he used to always say this phrase, can't change it, right? And it was a wristband that we used to wear. And he said that there's most things in this world you can't change. If you're stuck in traffic, you can either be really pissed off the entire time that you get to traffic, or you can get to your, you know, if you end up being late, you're going to be late anyways. Are you going to show up late and pissed off? Or are you going to show up late and happy because you decided to focus on the beautiful day that's outside, the music that you can listen to on your car ride while you're stuck in traffic, the stuck in traffic, the podcast that you can grow or the audio book that you can listen to to grow as well.
Starting point is 00:05:30 And most people don't think about that. The coronavirus will end. How are you going to get out of it? Who are you going to be? You know, I saw a really good message that was up earlier today as I was scrolling through Instagram, of course. And it was basically talking about like the coronavirus is here. There's nothing that we can do about the coronavirus right now. The only thing that we can do is focus on what we get out of it, what we focus on, what our lives are. And, uh, and I'm scrolling back through right now. So I can tell you what it says and says, if you don't come out of this quarantine with a new skill,
Starting point is 00:06:01 a side hustle started or more knowledge than you never lacked time. You lacked discipline. Let that one sink in. And I don't think it's just a new skill or just a new side hustle or more knowledge, maybe more peace, maybe better meditation skills, better reading skills, whatever it is. It's not that you never had enough time is that you lack discipline. So now's the time to be disciplined and go, you know what? It is going to end. The sun will come out on the other side, just like that passing cloud. I can't make the cloud pass faster. I can't get pissed off that the cloud is there because it will still be there no matter how pissed I get, no matter how many rocks I throw, no matter how much of a hissy fit I throw, the rocks will, you know, the cloud will always be there. It will eventually move.
Starting point is 00:06:44 Am I going to be pissed off by the time the sun comes back out? Or am I going to figure out a way to enjoy and grow and get better during the time that the cloud is covering the sun? And so that's what I want you to think about. Who are you going to become while this cloud is passing? Because it is passing.
Starting point is 00:07:03 It will not be here forever. We will still be here. Humankind, we will still survive through all of this. But the question is, are we going to learn and grow from it? Or are we going to take a step back? Because we didn't appreciate the downtime. So that's what I got for you for today's episode. If you love this episode, please share it with someone that you know and love. And I'm going to leave it the same way I leave you every single episode. Make it your mission. Make someone else's day better. I appreciate you. And I hope that you have an amazing day.
