All right, today what I'm going to be talking about is gratitude.
And I know I've spoken about gratitude before in the past, but I want to speak about gratitude
now that I've learned another level of gratitude.
So right now, my girlfriend and I are traveling, which you probably know from listening to
the podcast.
We've been traveling the past four months and we just left Thailand.
We were in Thailand for a while, three weeks, three and a half weeks.
And we just got to Bali past couple days ago. And there's one thing that I noticed between Thai
people and the Balinese people, and they are extremely, and I mean, inspiringly amazing people.
Like, I've never met anybody as nice and as sweet and as kind and as loving
and humble as the people, the Thai people and the Balinese people. And it's so inspiring because
it makes me realize, even though that I feel like I'm a good person, that holy crap, I can still
become a much better person because these people make me look like I'm a terrible, they make me
look like I'm a terrible person because they're so nice, they're so kind,
so sweet, everything. And in Bali, there's this thing. And the reason I wanted to talk about is
because they're so nice and I wanted to make an episode on it. But now that we've been in Bali
for a little while, Bali's beautiful. And they put out these little things and I can't remember
the name of it exactly, but every morning they put out these little beautiful things that they hand weave. And what it is, is basically an offering to their God or their gods. There's
multiple gods. So this offering to their gods, they're Hindu. Majority of them are Hindu here
from what I've read. And this is their practice of daily gratitude every single morning. So they
wake up early and they actually take palm leaves, they weave them together, and then they put in flowers, they put in offerings, they put in
incense, they do all of these things. And so when you actually wake up in the morning and you walk
the streets, you'll see them outside of people's houses, you'll see them outside of businesses,
you'll see them in businesses. And it is the way that they wake up in the morning and practice
gratitude right away for what they truly believe in. So whether you believe in or not, it doesn't matter. They believe in something and they are
showing their gratitude towards it as well. And I think that when you start your day with gratitude
and paying attention to what you have and being grateful for what you have, you can be a lot
happier throughout the day. And I think that one of the problems with Western society, especially in America, being an American, I can say this,
is that people are always pissed off and people feel like they don't have enough and they want
more and more and more and more. It's all about consuming. We're consumers. We always have to get
the next iPhone, the next iPhone X. Does anybody really care about the iPhone X, iPhone 10? Who
cares? It's just another phone. It's not even that much better than anything else. And so it's like, but we're bred, we're brainwashed to do this,
to consume, to buy, to buy, to buy, to buy. Because the economy, just so you know, the economy is just
a massive business. The US economy is just the biggest business in the world, just FYI. And so
if we can, if whoever is in charge can make us think that we need to buy, buy, buy, buy,
buy, well, guess what? We're going to continue to buy. And then we're going to feed into this
consumerism, helping this big business grow to be bigger. That's the problem. So if you think about
it though, these people have what we would say in Western society as not very much. They have very,
very little. They make very little money. They have very little
things, but they're the happiest freaking people. They're the kindest, nicest, most humble,
sweetest people I've ever met in my entire life. And they wake up every single day and they do this
and they practice gratitude, right? They practice being grateful. And so if I could give you a tip,
just a quick tip in this quick episode of something that's inspired me on my travels and why I think traveling is such an amazing thing is
because you get these types of things where you pick pieces from different people that you meet
and cultures that you see. And you're like, man, I need to start being that way. I need to be more
grateful. I need to be more humble. Even though I thought that I was, I meet these people and I
realize there's a whole other level that I'm nowhere even near. But these little beautiful offerings that I see every single morning when
we walk the streets make me realize that these people wake up and they put 30 minutes to an hour.
It's like a daily small meditation for them when they do this. They don't concentrate on anything
else. And they make this because they believe that they're giving gratitude to their God for everything that they do have,
for their health, for their children's health, for the food. And we might look at it from a
consumerism from the Western society and say, man, they don't have very much. But to them,
they have more than they need because they practice gratitude and they focus on what they have,
being grateful for it versus what they don't have. And so one thing that I would
like to leave you with is this. If we could all take something from the people of Bali is this.
When you wake up in the morning, take 30 seconds, pause, and right before you brush your teeth,
put a note on the mirror so you don't forget it. Right before you brush your teeth,
just think of all the things you have to be grateful for. Make that a habit before you brush
your teeth because you're going to brush teeth every single day. Hopefully, I hope to God you're
brushing your teeth every single morning. Otherwise you're going to the, you're going to the office
with snake breath. Wake up every single morning and right before you brush your teeth, close your
eyes and just think of all of the things that you have to be grateful for. I'm not saying pray. If you don't believe in anything, I don't care. If you do,
if you don't just close your eyes and just think of what you have to be grateful for.
And that will make the rest of your day better. If you want to see a chain reaction,
start your day with gratitude, close your eyes, be grateful for something,
and then see what starts to happen throughout the rest of your day.
And you start to notice, oh man, I'm a lot happier today. And the reason why is because I'm not thinking about what I don't have. I'm thinking about all the things that I do have. It's like
they say, if you want to be happier, just want the things that you already have. Be grateful for them.
So that's what I got for you. Start your day with gratitude every single morning. I'm going to
continue to update you with my travels. If you don't follow me yet on Instagram and you're missing out on all
