Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to the Mindset and Motivation Podcast, one of the top motivational podcasts in the world. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, we come out with a short, to the point, no BS episode to help make massive changes in your mind and transform you from who you are now to who you want to be. My name is Rob Dial, and the podcast starts now. Welcome to today's episode of the Mindset and Motivation Podcast. I am your host Rob Dial and today we're going to be talking about how to be uncomfortable and not necessarily
Starting point is 00:00:46 just how to be uncomfortable, why it is important for you to be uncomfortable. Now, a lot of you might be out there and you're thinking, why would I want to be uncomfortable? I love being comfortable. I love sitting on my couch, watching TV. That's what I work for. I work really hard during the day. I don't want to be uncomfortable when I come home. I want to be comfortable, but your comfort zone is where your dreams go to die. Let me say that again. Your comfort zone is where your dreams go to die. So if you're out there and you're thinking, man, I've been stuck in a comfort zone for a while. I want you to think about this and I want you to think about it in your head And for those of you guys that are watching on facebook for those of you guys are listening on the podcast
Starting point is 00:01:30 I'm, also recording this live on facebook I want you to type down below how long have you been stuck in your current comfort zone? So type it down below for those of you guys that are just listening to the podcast think to yourself How long have I been stuck in my current comfort yourself, how long have I been stuck in my current comfort zone? How long have I been stuck in the exact same place, making the exact same amount of money, having the exact same amount of happiness? How long have I been stuck in my current comfort zone? See, when I usually do this and I ask people this question, I've asked this hundreds of times. Whenever I go and give speeches, I hear a wide
Starting point is 00:02:05 range of answers. I could see answers popping up on Facebook live seven months, two years, seven years, four years, 22 years, 17 years, five years, three to four months, three to four months, six years, way too long, four years, 30 years, five years, 15 to 20 years, one year. Think of all of the time that we have been stuck in this comfort zone. And think about this. And I want to ask you this question and make you realize if you stay in this comfort zone your entire life, things will never get better. And so I want you to think about this real quick. And this is a tough question and a tough thing to think about. Think about the best time of your entire life, literally the highlight of your entire life, not your children's birth, but I'm talking about
Starting point is 00:03:00 you as a person. Think about you as a person, not anybody else, not getting married. What is the highlight of your life, your proudest accomplishment, the moment when you realized that you were on top of the world or that you set that goal and that you hit it? What is the one moment of your life where you're just like, man,
Starting point is 00:03:18 that was me at my best. Think about that for a second. When was that? Think about that moment. And now what I want you to think about is this. What if it never gets better than that? What if that was the best moment of your life and the rest of your life will never match up to that? It's kind of scary to think about, isn't it? But if you think about it, if you stay stuck in the current comfort zone that you're in, it won't get better
Starting point is 00:03:50 because you've already hit your max. You've already done the best that you could possibly do. You can't get any better because you're staying exactly the same. Now, I don't know about you, but for me, that thought alone scares the living crap out of me because I don't want, I would say more than anything else. That thought is what drives me to wake up and work
Starting point is 00:04:09 to become better every single day. And I don't try to become exponentially better every single day of my life. I try to become 1% better every day. That's it. Just 1% better. Because if I'm 1% better today than I was when I woke up and then I'm 1% better tomorrow and then the next day and then the next day, those little teeny tiny steps eventually become massive changes over the course of a year, over the course of five years, over the course of 10 years. I don't want my best moment of my entire life to be in my past. I want to have my next best moment in the next six months and then an even better moment six months from now and then an even better moment six months from now. I want to create the best moments of my life
Starting point is 00:04:56 over and over and over again. That's why I'm trying to push myself out of my comfort zone as often as possible because comfort kills ambition. Let me say that again. Comfort kills ambition. If you are in a comfort zone and you stay there, it will kill your ambition for wanting to become better. It'll kill your ambition for wanting to become the best that you possibly can. And the longer that you're in a comfort zone, the harder that it is to break through. Now, it's not impossible to break through a comfort zone if you've been in there for a while, but it's harder because it's so ingrained in your brain to stay where you are, to do the things that you do all the time.
Starting point is 00:05:40 Comfort kills ambition. Your comfort zone is where your dreams go to die. Now, let me ask you this question. How do you think you break out of your comfort zone? Because people always ask me this question. Well, I'm stuck in a comfort zone, Rob. How do I get out of it? I'm stuck in a comfort zone. How do I get out of it? It's very easy. You do what you don't want to do. Let me say that again. You do what you don't want to do. That thing in your head that you don't want to do, but you know, you should do it. You do it as soon as you wake up in the morning. You don't even wait. You don't even have a cup of coffee. You do it right. I'm in Austin and it's in the winter in Austin. Three months out of the year, it's cold. I'll wake up and go downstairs and hop into the pool that is not a heated pool. First thing in
Starting point is 00:06:33 the morning. Why? Because I hate doing it. Let me say this again. I want this to be very clear. I jump into a freezing cold pool every morning because I don't want to do it. Now, my girlfriend thinks I'm crazy and she's starting to understand why I do this. But the reason why I do it is because I don't want to do it. If I can wake up in the morning before my cup of coffee and immediately do the thing that I do immediately do the thing that I want to do least, then the rest of my day is super easy. It's super easy because I'm like, I jumped in a fricking and I don't just jump in the pool and then jump out. I jump in the pool and I stay in it for three minutes because I want to conquer the little voice inside my head that says,
Starting point is 00:07:26 you can't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. If I can do the one thing that I don't want to do, the rest of the day is easy, right? If you're a salesperson and you wake up and you immediately take a cold shower, take a cold, you know, ice bath or something like that, that one thing you don't want to do, then guess what? Making a hundred phone calls in a day and making all those cold calls makes your life a lot easier because you're like, that's really not a big deal. I jumped in a freaking freezing cold pool this morning. I can make a couple of phone calls. So the way to break out of your comfort zone, once again, your comfort zone is where your dreams go to die. Comfort kills ambition. Write that on your brain so you don't forget it.
Starting point is 00:08:08 Comfort kills ambition. If you can make yourself do what you don't want to do, you will break out of your comfort zone and you'll start doing stuff. What happens is if you do it first thing in the morning, you start to notice that things become easier. Life becomes easy. It's not as much of a struggle. You're not overthinking stuff. You just see an obstacle and you go at it. You don't think about the obstacle anymore. You just go at it. If you wake up in the morning like I do and jump in a
Starting point is 00:08:38 freezing cold pool, I just go at it. I try not to think about it. I shut that brain off. The part of my brain that says, don't do it. It's too cold. Don't do it. It's too cold. It feels so good inside of your bed. Why would you wake up and jump inside of a cold pool? I turn that part of my brain off. I say, shut up. I'm in control. And I jump inside of it. It's the exact same way. Then you look at the obstacles throughout your day and you don't look at them and go, oh yeah, but I got to over think this. I got to think about this. I got to think about this. I go, nope, shut up. I'm going at this obstacle. Do you see how that helps? Do you see how if you do the things you don't want to do, you change your life? So do something different every single day. Eat different food for lunch. Talk to different people at work. Put yourself out there. If you're
Starting point is 00:09:21 shy and you're an introvert, talk to the person who's ringing you up at the grocery store. Do something you don't want to do. Drive a different way to work every day. Drive a different way home from work every single day. Don't see the same people. Don't hang out at the same place. Don't get your haircut at the same place. Do something different.
Starting point is 00:09:40 Do something you don't want to do. Get a different haircut. If you want to break out of your comfort zone, do something that is different to you. Do something that is't want to do. Get a different haircut. If you want to break out of your comfort zone, do something that is different to you. Do something that is foreign to you. And that is how you get uncomfortable and change your life. If you want to change your life, you have to get uncomfortable
Starting point is 00:09:56 and do the things you don't want to do. Otherwise, you will be in the same comfort zone that you're currently stuck in forever. That's the key to it.
