Welcome to today's episode. If you have not yet done so, hit that subscribe button so that you
never miss another episode of the Mindset Mentor Podcast. I am your host, Rob Dial,
and today we're going to be talking about your limitations. I was on the webinar today,
and we had over a thousand people that joined. So if you weren't able to join in on the 2020 goal-setting webinar I apologize we got
completely full there were no more spots left so if you went and you tried to
sign up I apologize we filled up on the spots and we can only allow a thousand
people at a time and there are no replays which you know sucks about it as
well but anyways going back to it someone asked the question they said hey
Rob how do you stop believing in your limitations? And the thing that I told them was limitations
are optional. Limitations are not real. Limitations, the way I always say it is,
as you're putting out your 2020 goals and as you're figuring out your goals,
the most important thing is to realize that you need to put your goals down as if you're four years old
again. Remember when you were four years old, there was no such thing as limitations. Anything
was possible. Limitations are absolutely optional. You know, before 19, sorry, before 1954,
everybody thought that it was impossible to run a four minute mile, to run a mile in under four
minutes. It was physically impossible.
They literally said, doctors said that the human heart would explode. It was impossible.
And then in 1954, Roger Bannister ran it in three minutes, 59.4 seconds. He showed that it was possible. And what's crazy is once he showed that it was possible, people stopped limiting themselves.
Within two years, over 300 people ran a mile in
under four minutes. Let me say that again. Nobody in the history of mankind ran a mile in under four
minutes. In two years, after one person did it and proved it was possible, 300 people ran a mile in
under four minutes. They had the ability to do it all the time, but what happened? They
thought it was impossible. They believed what other people had told them. They didn't want
their heart to explode. They thought it was physically impossible. You know, it was a common
belief that it was impossible. And so people believed in that. I wonder how many common
beliefs you're holding on to or things that people have placed on you because of what their realistic
expectations are, their limitations are. What are you still buying into that maybe your parents
told you or your aunt told you or your second grade teacher told you? You know, people thought
that human flight was impossible until the Wright brothers proved them wrong. People thought that
putting a man in space was impossible until the Russians put a man in space in 1961. And then people thought landing
on the moon was impossible, which, you know, still people are debating, I guess, whether it was real,
whether it was not real, but we're going back to the moon in the next couple of years, which should
be cool. But in 1969, Neil Armstrong proved him wrong. So you're telling me that in 1969,
So you're telling me that in 1969, there was a rocket that flew 238,000 miles away and landed on a rock that's orbiting earth at 2,288 miles an hour. Let me say that again.
In 1969, when they had almost no technology compared to us nowadays. They sent a freaking rocket ship 238,000 miles away and it
landed on a rock, the moon that's traveling 280, I'm sorry, 200 to 2,288 miles per hour.
And then they took off from the moon and landed back on the earth safely. And you can't accomplish
your dreams. You can't accomplish, you can't do what you want to do.
And there's people doing stuff like that.
You know, people believed that it was impossible
to run a four minute mile.
People believe that you weren't able to fly.
People believe that you weren't able
to get out of the air.
People believe that you couldn't land on the moon.
Everything was impossible until they were done.
So what's holding you back
from following the life that you really want?
Are you telling yourself what's possible and what from following the life that you really want? Are you telling
yourself what's possible and what's not possible? Because you will not accomplish what you don't
think is possible. So what limits are you placing on yourself that are completely false? Is it the
fear of failure, the fear of success, the fear of uncertainty, the fear of making a mistake,
the fear of your parents judging you, the fear of disappointing someone that you love or
disappointing yourself? Are you making things up in your head? Are you taking or disappointing yourself? Are you making things
up in your head? Are you taking the safe route? Are you, are your dreams so high that it paralyzes
you and you don't do anything? Are you making up limitations? Are you making up excuses?
Are you saying that you don't have enough time or money or you're too lazy or you're too fat or
you're not good enough looking or that you don't have a car. See, we have unlimited ability, but we, we restrict our own potential because of our
own limitations that we put on ourselves. Excuses that we make up. The reason why you're not living
your dreams is because you are holding yourself back. Nobody else. So what do you need to do in
this next year to take off your limitations? Can you
sit down with a pen and paper and dream again like you're four years old and there's no such
thing as limitations? Can we rise above our limitations next year? You have to break fear.
You have to break excuse. All of those things, fears and excuses need to be broken.
See, when we tell ourselves that something's impossible, we must immediately remind ourselves
how possible it is. And we think, oh man, I can't do that. Then we need to figure out how we can do
it. It comes down to you always. It's always in between your ears. It's in your head. It all comes
down to what you believe. The only thing that's holding you back is yourself, not the money,
not the past, not your current situation, not the government, not the president, not the fact that
you don't have a car, not the fact that you don't have the money, whatever it is. It's you. It's always been you. You are the one that's
holding yourself back. We need to reprogram our own minds. We need to fill our brains with
positivity, with reading books, with going to seminars, with listening to podcasts, with
watching YouTube videos. We need to get into the right circle of people who are also programming
themselves to think bigger, to get past their limitations. And I want to leave you with a question. Get a pen and paper
and write this down. Don't worry. I've got all the time in the world. You can push play. You
can push pause if you need to write this down and I want you to answer it. What limitations
am I placing on myself? Write that question down and answer it. Write that question down and answer
it. Pause me if down and answer it.
Pause me if you need to.
What limitations am I placing on myself?
And then press pause.
And then what I want you to do is ask yourself this next question.
What can I do to overcome those limitations?
Write them all down.
Look at them every day.
Every time you start to doubt yourself,
you need to look at what you need to do to overcome those.
Because the only thing that's holding you back is you.
Everything is impossible until somebody proves that it is possible.
So that's what I got for you for today's episode.
If you love it,
please share it with someone that you know and love.
And I'm gonna leave you the same way I leave you
every single episode.
Make it your mission, make someone else's day better.
I appreciate you.
And I hope that you have an amazing day.
